Tooth Bleaching
Patients today are in high demand for more than a healthy mouth and a perfect smile. Color and
esthetics of the teeth are important topics for patients, as they influence self esteem and professional
relationships. Tooth discoloration may cause cosmetic and social problems for the patient. Therefor
dentist and patients spend a large amount of money trying to improve the appearance of teeth. Tooth
bleaching has become a very popular and common method for whitening discolored teeth in modern
esthetic dentistry. Tooth bleaching refers to any procedure that does not use restorative materials and
that changes the color and appearance of teeth that were discolored do to intrinsic and extrinsic
staining (Karadas and Hatipoglu 2015). There are three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Listerine Whitening and Plax Whitening could not match the results of supervised home
bleaching methods, such as 10% Carbamide peroxide Whitening gel. This factor could be caused by
the fact that Whitening mouth rinses contain a lower percentage of hydrogen peroxide. Listerine
Whitening contains 2% of hydrogen peroxide and Plax Whitening contains 1.5%. Additionally, how
acidic the mouth rise is can determine the whitening effect of the mouthwash. If the mouthwash is to
acidic it can cause the shade of the teeth to become darker over time. Another factor that researchers
has stated that can affect the whitening effect of whitening mouthwashes is the exposure time. The use
of Whitening mouth rinses is recent and few studies on this topic are available (Oliveira et al., 2017).
Additionally, manufactures conduct their own evaluations or fund researchers to test their product.
Thus, there is no need to conduct independent studies using commercially available products to learn
the action and possible side effects of mouth rinses and other over the counter bleaching products
(Lima et al., 2012). More clinical trials are needed so that researchers can ensure the effectiveness of
whitening mouth rinses, and determine the best protocol to use

Thin Women In Media
The idea of an idea woman has been thin for a very long time. According to the society, being thin
means being happy, successful and appealing. Most of the models/actors that media portrays as
beautiful are thin women and not at all like the women we see every day. They represent images of
women that most of the society cannot attain. These models are shown as almost close to perfection,
with all the styling, make up and airbrushing techniques to hide any flaws. Woman who are constantly
exposed to such messages of beauty, might end up feeling dissatisfied of themselves. According to
Berg 2000, girls as young as two are exposed to media that portrays thin women as successful. They
see their aunts, mothers and sisters battling to achieve the perfect body, which is thin. This over time
has an impression on the minds on the children. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Characteristics Of Authoritarianism In The Philippines
Figure 1 describes the perception of the Filipinos on the authoritarian way of governing a country. As
can be seen, the idea that usually goes inside one individual s mind is that
Authoritarianism means having no equal rights having 33.3% making it the majority in the
respondents answers. Having fear and violence and making the decision making of a government

The results in Figure 1 state that majority of the Filipino respondents see Authoritarianism as a
government system that does not promote equal rights. Therefore, it can be assumed that majority of
the Filipinos believe in the bad ideas and traits that are stereotypically embedded in the term
Authoritarianism. In relation to this it can be explained through the numerous influences that affect the
perspective of the Filipinos as a whole nation. About forty three years ago, the
Philippines experienced the Authoritarian government when the late president Ferdinand Marcos
declared Proclamation No. 1081. He pointed out on the lack of discipline of the Philippine society just
to give justifications for imposing the Martial Law. According to David (2011), the imposition of
Martial Law brought about numerous bad effects on the country and bad perceptions on its people. It
brought fear to the whole nation because the soldiers or the policemen could pick up anybody at any
given time even on the absence of the warrant of arrest.

Mike Lofgren s The Party Is Over
Political dysfunction is no surprise to the American Populace; in fact, today it s almost expected. As
we see with the fairly recent presidential elections between Republican Nominee [now president]
Donald Trump and Democratic Nominee and Senator Hilary Clinton, our current political system is
amuck. It is asinine, it s crazy, it is viscous, and above all else, it is in shambles. This paves the way
for the million dollar question we are all left racking our brains to answer what happened to us? This
question, along with the answers to such is examined by author Mike Lofgren in his book The Party is
Over, and is the topic of this essay paper. More specifically, today I would like to dive a bit deeper and
explore the answer to a question a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lofgren points out that republican leaders are often encouraged to share their religious views and
feelings regarding their respective faith, and as of relatively recently, the republican party has
reignited the kinds of seventeenth century religious controversies that advanced democracies are
supposed to have outgrown (Lofgren, 2012 p. 129). More so, there appears to be a cookie cutter mold
which major candidates must adhere to, to have a successful career and impact on their constituents.
Despite the prevalence of religious opinions and faith based values aired out to the populace, Lofgren
does point out the unique points that we [as a nation] are lucky that our foreign policies and national
decisions are not based on one s adherence to faith or religious scriptures, and that we should keep it
this way. In doing so and in letting someone s tendentious reading if the bible dictate test for office or
formation of legislation, our great nation will be destined for demise (Lofgren, 2012 p.

Theme Of Sonnet XIV
John Donne s poem Sonnet XIV delves into the relationship with God and his enemy, Satan. The form
of the poem is a source of tension. When conflicting elements resist, one another tension is produced.
Therefore, Donne creates tension by abandoning the traditional Petrarchan Sonnet that conforms to the
speaker s love for a woman and he speaks about his love for God. Donne s resolution to the conflict of
an overcrowded relationship is in him telling God to take control, so that he can be free from sin.
In John Donne s poem, Sonnet XIV, the poem s controlling meter is an Iambic Pentameter. The poems
rhyme scheme is regular. The rhyme scheme of a Petrarchan sonnet being abbaabbacdcdee . In the
poem, there are three (3) quatrains, followed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The speaker makes use of figurative language and imagery to convey a more vivid description. The
speaker is comparing himself to a seized town. Meaning in more blatant terms, a town in captivity.
The site town in this case is a symbol that the speaker has used to represent himself. The symbol is a
contribution to the unity of the story. The symbol helps to create a more vivid picture of the way in
which the speaker is in bondage and needs to be freed. The speaker continues his train of thought by
saying labor to admit you, but oh, to no end meaning he tries to let the rightful owners in but his
attempt was futile. Then he makes mention that he should be protected by the statement Reason your
viceroy in me, me should defend/ But is captiv d, and proves weak or untrue . Suggesting that the ruler
in him is either being held in confinement, puny or disloyal. All of the aforementioned have a
congruous effect to the unity of the poem in entirety. Here we view the speaker explaining that sin had
him held captive and he wanted to let God in so that God could intervene and free him from sin.
However, the part of him that should have taken control did

before his mother passed away. Soon after the departure of his mother from this world, his condition
aggravated. It was not because they were in financial strain; rather it was because now, there was no
one who could fill up the gap of his love, which he had for his mother. His father couldn t give much

Income Taxes
When you get your paycheck at the end of the first pay period at a new job, it s always interesting to
see your net pay. Most of us expect more than we get. By the time you get your check, it has been cut
up like a piece of pie, with several entities taking a piece of the pie. The entities that take money differ
from person to person, company to company and state to state. However, almost every income earner
has to pay federal income tax. An income tax is a tax levied on the financial income of persons,
corporations, or other legal entities. Various income tax systems exist, with varying degrees of tax
incidence. Income taxation can be progressive, proportional, or regressive. When the tax is levied on
the income of companies, it is often ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Simplicity and fairness are also natural consequences of these component features of tax reform.
These major features of a flat tax are: A Single Flat Rate. All flat tax proposals have a single rate,
usually less than 20 percent. The low, flat rate solves the problem of high marginal tax rates by
reducing penalties against productive behavior, such as work, risk taking, and entrepreneurship.
Elimination of Special Preferences. Flat tax proposals would eliminate provisions of the tax code that
bestow preferential tax treatment on certain behaviors and activities. Getting rid of deductions, credits,
exemptions, and other loopholes also helps solve the problem of complexity, allowing taxpayers to file
their tax returns on a postcard sized form. No Double Taxation of Saving and Invest¬ment. Flat tax
proposals would eliminate the tax code s bias against capital formation by ending the double taxation
of income that is saved and invested. This means no death tax, no capital gains tax, no double taxation
of saving, and no double tax on dividends. By taxing income only one time, a flat tax is easier to
enforce and more conducive to job creation and capital formation. Territorial Taxation. Flat tax
proposals are based on the commonsense notion of territorial taxation, meaning that governments
should tax only income that is earned inside national borders. By getting rid of worldwide taxation, a
flat tax enables U.S. taxpayers and

Intersectional Framework Of Criminology
of earlier radical feminists, more contemporary feminist criminologists have since argued for a more
intersectional approach for explaining crime and criminal justice processes (Belknap 2001; Britton
2004; Burgess Proctor 2006; Chesney Lind 2006; Daly 1997; Morash 2006; Potter 2006).
Intersectionality strengthens criminology in many ways. In particular, an intersectional framework is
important because it is applicable to all individuals in that it recognizes how some intersecting social
identities (e.g., white, middle class, men) advantage certain individuals in some respects while
disadvantaging others (e.g., Black, working class, women) (Burgess Proctor 2006). In this way, a more
complete understanding of differences in crime patterns is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Researchers such as Simpson (1989) and Britton (2004) have noted criminology s narrow use of
intersectional perspectives, focusing mostly on whites and Blacks involvement in crime. Both scholars
have advocated strongly for more research examining other racial and ethnic groups (e.g., Asian and
Hispanic) and their relationship to crime. Simpson (1989: 619) specifically notes how feminist
criminologists have often relied on an add race and stir method when it came to studies on gender and
crime, assuming that all women have similar experiences. In order to more fully integrate feminist and
intersectional methods into criminological work, feminist criminologists must recognize that the
standpoint of woman is not monolithic, rather they should approach their research with the
understanding that differences among women exist (Burgess Proctor 2006; Daly and Chesney Lind
1988; Flavin 2004; Simpson

Breast Enlargement Research Paper
Breast Enlargement 5 Non Surgical Alternatives
Summary: A lot of options can be considered over surgery for breast enlargement. The popular
altenatives include Enlargement pumps, Fat transfer, Contouring among others.
No one but women understand the need and importance for breast enlargement. Some do it to shape
their personality while some do it in order to appear in a particular way. Whatever be the reason, all
women should understand the health risks surgical breast enhancement procedures may carry. Non
Surgical Procedures are always favoured over surgical augmentation procedures. The primary
alternative to a surgery or implant include the following.
Enlargement Pumps
The expansion of breast tissue is a favourable way of increasing breast size. Breast Enlargement takes
place as a result of the pumps acting as a suction on the tissues. This encourages enhanced blood flow
and increases the possibility of increased tissue growth. This helps in breast enhancement as they
increase in size. However a lot of endurance is needed to reap rewards from this process as extensive
and motivated use in the pertinent way is required over a minimum period of three months. Results
cannot be anticipated over night.
Fat Transfer
This is one of the most popular breast enlargement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As unorthodox as it sounds, make up can be used to give a whole new appearance to the breasts as
well. The objective is to disguise the breast look by creating an effective optical illusion in order to
make the breasts look in a particular way. The aspects of light and shadow can be used in
complimenting proportions in order to make breasts seem larger or smaller than they actually are. A
shadowing effect can be brought about with the help of a bronzer that makes the dark area look farther
from actual. Make up can also be used to make the shaded area appear closer. Thus, effective
contouring can help in providing breasts a more enhanced

The question is unique. In my judgment rules that apply to a host of other symbols, such as state flags,
armbands, or various privately promoted emblems of political or commercial identity, are not
necessarily controlling. Even if flag burning could be considered just another species of symbolic
speech under the logical application of the rules that the Court has developed in its interpretation of
the First Amendment in other contexts, this case has an intangible dimension that makes those rules
inapplicable. Comments: Source: http://www.riverreporter.com/news/library/491us397.htm nbsp;

Thomas Descartes s Dream Argument And The Dream...
In the First Meditation Descartes famously presented his dream argument or dream paradox in which
he questions how we can distinguish between dreams and waking life. In this essay, I will explore
various responses to the argument such as Hobbes and Locke and how I think Descartes would
dismiss these arguments. I will finally present my own criticism alongside the work of Austin,
Simpson and Ryle in order to illustrate the inconsistency of Descartes claims. In order to deconstruct
the dream paradox I will appeal to one of the three common methods of solving paradoxes; denying a
premise, particularly the first premise as this results in the collapse of the remaining conditional
premises. I will ultimately show that the dream argument is a paradox and how this causes the dream
argument to fail.
Descartes aim throughout the first segment of his Meditations to overthrow existing foundations of
knowledge and encourages readers to remove prior knowledge and prejudices in order to fully accept
the new foundations which he aims to establish. The method of doubt is used to find beliefs that can
serve as a new foundation for knowledge. Only beliefs that are certain, immune from doubt, can
perform this function. Descartes argued that what we believe on the basis of the senses cannot meet
the standard. Consequently, he concluded, we do not know anything on the basis of our senses and the
dream argument is formed.
The dream argument results from a realization by Descartes that he

He tried his best not to lose the war because he does not want American war to be the loser. The
United States troops were completely pulled back from Vietnam before the finish of March of 1973,
yet America continued battling in Cambodia. North Vietnam did not respond to US notices and before
the year s over Nixon stayed weak after Watergate. In his article, the author said that Nixon tried to
protect the Thieu administration in South Vietnam and let South Vietnam on the safe side because he
needed the Thieu government to be secure. North Vietnam needed to have a unity but South Vietnam
strived to be a free country. Nixon s mission was to help and support the nations that are US partners
such as South Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos, but other nations would need to shield themselves from
the communism. When Nixon attempted to stay faithful to his obligation to the Thieu government in
South Vietnam, Secretary of State Dr. Henry Kissinger needed to proceed onward to different United

Situational Transitions
In life people constantly experience changes. Whether the change is bad, good, expected or
unexpected, it always occurs. Similarly, people also go through transitions. However, unlike change,
which is a shift in what a person is used to, a transition is a turning point that often causes a major
reshaping in a person s life (Transitions Class Notes, 2010). There are five types of transitions that a
person can experience. The transitions include developmental, health illness, organizational,
situational, and multiple (Situational Transitions Class Notes, 2012). A situational transition in
particular is when a person experiences a reshaping in their lifestyle (Hampton, 2010). That being
said, immigration is considered to be a situational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another difference noted between the articles is that Perriera et al. (2007) focuses more on Latino
immigrant youth whereas Birman et al. (2007) and Gaytan et al. (2007) do not draw on a particular
ethnic group but on immigrant youth in general. Evidently, migrating to a new country can be
challenging for immigrant youth. Having a lack of resources available to meet their needs and family
conflict surrounding cultural preferences, can lead to the youth to have feelings of powerlessness and
despair. Powerlessness is the perception that one lacks the capacity or authority to affect an outcome
(Situational Transitions Class Notes, 2012). Without the proper resources available to immigrant youth
in their new culture and surroundings, they can feel as if there is nothing they can do to assist them to
progress in their new life. Also, because of family conflict, youth may feel as if they cannot talk to
their parents about their difficulties and therefore have nobody to support them through this
challenging time. This can cause them to feel defeated and believe themselves to be inadequate in
their capabilities. As a result, feelings of guilt and shame can arise, which in turn can cause them to
have a consistent negative outlook and continuously cause them to believe that they will fail. It is
important to recognize the impact of feeling of powerlessness as it can significantly affect the ability
of the newcomer youth

What Is Mexiconia s Identity
Franconians and their own interpretation of their Bavarian identity
First of all the German or Bavarian Franconians (German = Franken) are not a Swiss currency or so
help me god are not related to the modern French people. To be honest, there is probably a historical
background with the medieval Frankish tribe and the common French/German history by Charles the
Great and his Charlemagne. However, nowadays the region of Franconia is a geographical and
cultural province in the north of modern Bavaria with its own identity. It consists of roughly one third
of the Bavarian area and population. Franconia itself is divided into three regions: Upper Franconia
with its capital city Bayreuth, Lower Franconia with its capital city Würzburg and last but not least
Central Franconia with Ansbach as its capital city. The biggest city and the industrial and financial
center of Franconia is of course Nuremberg with its long and rich history going back into the Middle
Ages. Roughly ten years ago, when Bavaria ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That is why the people of Franconia are so proud of their own identity and see themselves first as
Franconians and after that as Bavarians or Germans. But the main and probably true reason is that the
Franconians are also seen as Franconians by the Bavarians. Franconia is for them just another cultural
annoying geographical part of Bavaria without any industrial powerhouses like Siemens, BMW or
Audi. Some arrogant Bavarians assert that everything beyond the Danube (also called the
Weißwurstäquator ) is Prussian, also called Saupreiß . Because of that, the Franconians likely do have
a slight inferiority complex towards the Bavarians, but are in the end quietly and secretly proud to be a
part of Bavaria and its world famous traditional culture. I mean who on earth, outside of Bavaria,
knows the differences between these two regions or anyway, what Franconia actually

Philippines is currently under the presidential system, also a system of democratic but republican
governance, which is led this time by a president, and wherein there is a separation of powers between
the executive and the legislative. In the presidential system, people have the collective power to vote

Another is that Filipinos have a culture of apathy and tend to use religion incorrectly and passively.
People depend on religion and settle for what s okay. In addition, the initial reaction of Filipinos to
change is resistance, and this is why the country does not necessarily progress, or at least, progress at a
continuous rate. Then, countries like Spain and Portugal only rode the economic tiger after they
realized that the only way to survive was change (3.Y). Plus, according to another critic, the
Philippines already had the experience of being under the parliamentary system during the time of
Marcos which only resulted in a People Power Revolution. So why should the country bother going
back to that? (4.Y) However, it was Marcos who envisioned a New Society or a Bagong Lipunan that
urged the poor and privileged to work as one for the country s economic goals through self realization.

Social Emotional And Executive Function Defects
Through the decades, researchers have tried to solve the mystery of the enigmatic prefrontal cortex.
Along with the famous case of Phineas Gage (Harlow,1848), many studies have attempted to answer
the burning question of either or not lesions to the prefrontal cortex lead to an antisocial behavior. The
PFC, which is found in the frontal lobe and has an executive function, helps us have an appropriate
response to social situations. Why is it important to study this matter? Because we are social creatures
and knowing how to act in society is one of our basic needs. The studies which will be presented show
that there is an obvious link between dysfunction of the PFC and an antisocial way of acting.
In the developmental neuropsychology literature, it has been proved that social emotional and
executive function defects are associated with early damage to the PFC. Piaget (1968) claimed that
children learn from experience and this is the way in which they obtain adaptive characteristics.
Therefore, studying patients such as children can give a lot of information about the effect of brain
maturation and social development.
The study conducted by Eslinger(2004) reveals 10 cases of patients suffering from early prefrontal
cortex damage highlighting one of the most informative cases available in the literature on human
prefrontal lobe damage , the case of Acherly and Benton(1948). JP, the person who was being studied,
is particularly important because he was observed for a long

The Battle Of New Orleans Figurative Language
Analysis of The Battle of New Orleans Andrew Jackson led his brave U.S. infantry towards the most
powerful army with uncertainty of who would make it back. The Battle of New Orleans is about a
battle that ended the War of 1812, and Johnny Horton depicts this through using figurative language.
The song written by Horton explains how The Battle of New Orleans was started and how it ended. It
starts off informing listeners that Colonel Jackson was taking his infantry south, following the
Mississippi River. The song then continues to describe how the Americans began firing at the British
in a surprise attack. Jackson s calvary sent the British retreating to the Gulf of Mexico with an
impressive victory. In total only 8 Americans were killed

Essay about An Inspector Calls by J.B. Priestley
An Inspector Calls by J.B. Priestley The play An Inspector Calls was written in 1945, which was just
at the end of the Second World War. The play is set in 1912, just before the First World War. The play
was set at this particular time so that J.B. Priestley could get his message across more clearly. The
message was that we all have to take responsibility for our actions, which can have consequences.
Another reason why this may be a well made play is that J.B. Priestley gives hints to the audience at
the beginning, which builds up excitement and interest. The hints given are revealed slowly
throughout the play. Examples of the hints would be when Sheila comments about Gerald never
coming near her the previous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gradually, as the play progresses, the audience interest increases as more and more is revealed about
the family s involvement with Eva Smith. Firstly we learn that Mr. Birling has sacked Eva Smith from
his own factory because she asked for more pay. I think Mr. Birling couldn t care less about Eva, he
thought of the situation as strictly business. Well, it s my duty to keep labour costs down, and if I d
agreed to this demand for a new rate we d have added about twelve percent to our labour costs.
Secondly, Sheila got Eva Smith fired when jealousy arose with in her. This is when Sheila thought Eva
was laughing at her at how she looked in an item of clothing. Sheila thought Eva would look much
better in the dress than she would, so she complained to the manager and demanded she be fired;
because of how well known and of a high class she was the demand was met by the manager. At first
Sheila did not care or realise what she had done but after knowing Eva had died she felt very guilty.
Yes, that s it. And I know I m to blame and I m desperately sorry but I cant believe I wont believe it s
simply my fault that in the end she she committed suicide. That would be too horrible Thirdly, Gerald
was involved after having an affair with her and then ending the relationship after he had used her.

Xenotransplantation Issues
The research and practice of Xenotransplantation has been around since the early 1900s, with doctors
attempting to transplant organs from pigs, goats, lambs, or monkeys to humans (Biotech Learning
Hub, 2011). Essentially, Xenotransplantation is defined as transplanting or grafting tissues and/or
organs from one species to another species (PBS, 2000). Scientists and doctors around the world have
been researching and experimenting for years on how to successfully complete this procedure without
creating any risks for humans in the future. The main species scientists and doctors are now working
with are pigs, for they are the safest species to use in their research since they found that they possess
less risks for viruses compared to other species ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Xenotransplantation may not be the best solution to this problem, for issues with the subject
have been found, as well as ethical dilemmas that many people have noticed and should not be
ignored. Although many scientists and doctors believe Xenotransplantation can solve the organ
transplant shortage around the world, debates on the subject have risen, for others believe that
Xenotransplantation research and procedures could be a potential risk to humans as it has been to
animals. Some of these risks and failures include: failed attempts on other animal species, possible
cross infection between species, and rejection of the transplanted organ/tissue in the body (Samdani,
M.D., 2014). According to Sara Reardon, a journalist with an MS in molecular biology, pigs are our
best shot at succeeding in Xenotransplantation, for researchers have found that soon, people may

Drowning and Red Bean Ice
As the old saying goes, in this world nothing can be said to be sure, except death and taxes. Even
everyone knows their life must have an end, but most of them still fear the death. In the short stories,
A Drowning by Mark Ferguson and Red Bean Ice by Nancy Lee, authors have demonstrated the
reaction and feeling of people to death. In these two stories, the characters are unlike the other person
when death comes. They are both calm facing to death, and they are all insisting their hope. However,
the reaction of people around them for their death is different. Firstly, both of characters in the short
stories are very calm before their death. In the story A Drowning , the narrator in a boat saw a man

Frank Zappas s Testimony On Labeling Music
Frank Zappas s testimony on labeling music (specifically rock) that is explicit to listeners was

His testimony was off topic at times, and only helped ruin his argument along with his constant attacks

argument, he made a negative attack that lessened his credibility. Repeatedly, Frank Zappa destroys

Exploring Judaism
Judaism, which originated in the middle east, is one of the oldest religions in the world. Judaism is the
religion from where Catholicism and Islam have their roots. The main difference between Judaism and
the previously mentioned religions is that Judaism is based on the old testament entirely excluding the
new testaments in its teachings. Jews believe that they are the people chosen by God and that because
of the covenant they have the duty, more than any other group of people, to keep the law of God. The
law of God in Judaism comes in the form of the Torah. The books of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus,

When you enter the temple the object that stands out the most is the big candlelight like structure on
the upper part of the wall behind the stage. Later I learned that the wall below the candlelight could be
open to reveal a sanctuary that is supposed to represent the arc that the Jews carried through the
dessert. Although the one in the temple does not utilize olive oil or real fire, the candlelight on top
represents the eternal light that the sanctuary had which burn with pure olive oil. The arc is an
extremely important symbol in Judaism. It contains several beautiful Torah s with covers with
different captivating designs. The beauty of the Torah s cover is important because it is the word of
God and it is a way too honor God. The Torah s are to be written in parchment by a Jewish scribe who

What Are The Characters In The Novel Paperboy
1, The first paragraph of the novel Paperboy talks mainly about the characters. The story talks about
the stabbing so the character may have experienced some horrible things. Then it goes on by stating
why the main character (Victor) has a disability to have a talk fluently. And lastly, it said that character
named Mam has lain too by the main character and that might mean they don t have a good
relationship with the main character.
2. If a character in the story was represented by an animal I would classify Victor as a snake and Ara T
as a rat. Victor is a snake because people actually call him a snake. They call him that since he hisses
whenever he s stuck on a word so he could sneak up on it. Ara T is a rat because he collects trash, has
dirty baggy clothes, and goes around the streets. This portrays a rat because they re dirty and roam the
streets.
3. There are many patterns in the book. One of the patterns I spotted was that he goes to knock on the
door to collected weekly fees and at first he is always scared. But every time he talks to a neighbor
they all give him warm welcomes and shows that they can understand and care for him. Another
pattern I spotted was always he messes up in every house. He messed by saying a bad word to the
neighbor, messes up by leaving a question and standing there for a minute, and he messed up by lying
to Mrs.Rat.
4. An artifact that would help you understand the character IS this book because it s his diary/memoir.

Whether Intelligence Can be Defined and Measured Accurately or Not
In this essay I will look at whether intelligence can be defined and measured accurately through
looking at various definitions of intelligence; including definitions from Binet, Wechsler, Terman,
Hebbs, Cattel and Vernon. I will discuss a selection of more well known and popular intelligence tests
ranging from Galton to Wechsler, what they measure and what they don t measure. I will look at an

Terman (1921) describes intelligence as a person s ability of abstract thinking (1921, cited in Heim,
1970).
It seems that psychologists find it hard to reach an agreement to define intelligence, resulting in the
final definition I will mention from Vernon (1969) intelligence is what intelligence tests measure
(1969, cited in Howe, 1997).
Although most definitions seem to have a similarity, the meaning of intelligence can vary over time
and through cultures. It was once thought that intelligence was all down to a persons ability with
spelling and arithmetic, whereas in the islands of the south pacific a persons ability to navigate the
oceans and there spatial memory are the way to judge a persons intelligence level (MSN, 2005).
It seems a nomothetic approach is needed to even attempt to measure intelligence. All tests need to be
reliable, correlate with existing test scores and show face, internal and ecological validity (MSN,
2005).
Intelligence tests were developed to predict school children s eventual academic results (MSN, 2005).
In England in the 1880 s Galton made the first attempt at measuring intelligence. Galton s theory was
that a person with a good degree of intelligence would

The United States Involvement During The Civil War
In the year of 1898, Spain declared war on the United States. The U.S. prime objective was for the
true Cuban independence. In pursuing such goal, the string of conflicts began with the inhumane
treatment of Cuban civilians in concentration camps by the Spanish, yellow journalism, and the
sinking of the U.S.S. Maine. The United States involvement in the war was a combination of all of
these factors; however, the most influential factor was the sinking of the U.S.S. Maine. The outrage of
American citizens advanced throughout the country. Ultimately, the firm perception of a deliberate
attack on the Maine pressured the United States into the war. Without a clear rationale, the American
public compelled the United States to avenge the Maine. After a short four month war, United States
won the war and emerged as a dominant force in the world.
The Spanish American war centers around many contributing elements. The first of these events was
the reconcentration policy. General Weyler was put in charge to stop Cuban rebels from expanding.
Such policy was intended to protect the noncombatant peasantry of the island, but his sole object was
to compel them to put themselves wholly in the power of the Spanish officials (White). The policy
forced all rural district civilians to move into cities and towns that were still under Weyler s control.
Moreover, Weyler concluded that this would prevent civilians from assisting rebels with information
or food. He enforced the concentration

After The Deluge Analysis
The understanding of popular culture is a modern phenomenon in industrialized countries. The
perception of popular culture is something that emanates, starting from the lower class to the higher
class. There is an authenticity within each class of the understanding of popular culture. One could
perceive a cultural object as spiritual, exploitive, or perhaps even a medium of communication from
history to present day. As Stuart Hall proclaims, the power of perception of a cultural object can make
the view of popular culture as a site for struggle between the different social forces and classes over

I have a family tree with branches by the dozens. I have grandpas. I have grandmas. I have uncles,

his people and the experiences they had constitutes our present scripture. It is nothing more or less
than sacred family history. Because it was written under the influence of the Spirit of the Holy Ghost,
it became scripture (Theodore M. Burton, The Inspiration of a Family Record, Ensign, Jan. 1977, 17).

records: It is necessary for us to keep an accurate record of our families and record accurately the

Another example of this is the Cinco de Mayo Barbie. Her traditional attire is the main attraction and
effectively makes her represent Cinco de Mayo celebrations. Another point made earlier is the variety
of items that Barbie has. For example there are several different vehicles that are Barbie items
(pictures below). The appeal of these different vehicles to young consumers is imbedded in the need to
play pretend . Also, children often mimic their parents or older siblings, not to mention society s
images of popular vehicles. The idea here is to provide many options for a consumer, this way there is
at least one item that every consumer can be attracted to. Also it is important to note that all the
vehicles, whether child size or Barbie size, are all a variation of the color pink. The color connotes
femininity and the social gender association is with females. So although there is a choice on types of
products the color choice is limited. According to about.com and Barbie.everythinggirl.com every
second two Barbies are sold somewhere in the world. The popularity of the doll provides us with some
insight to Barbie consumers. They are willing to conform to ideas of what is socially acceptable for
colors of toys specifically for girls; and by willing I mean either not prompted to voice change or not

Ethical Dilemmas In Health And Social Care Case Study
1. Is there an ethical violation, dilemma or concern and, if so, what is it? By Madeline receiving a
subpoena duces tecum, she is expected to personally appear at a deposition or in court with documents
in hand. Though, the fact that the patient s authorization to release his/her information is missing the
date will make the subpoena duces tecum invalid. The ethical dilemma is created when Madeline calls
the attorney s office and informs the attorney s legal assistant of the missing element on the
authorization and she receives the same document with a date written within five minutes. This make
Madeline suspects that the legal assistant was the one who wrote the date on the authorization and not

Teletubbies, A Successful Children s Show
Joshua Huaracha
12/7/2016
Children s Television
Think piece #1 Teletubbies has been a successful children s show. This show has been attracted to
children since its release date. Parents seem to think the contrary. It has lately been labeled as weird
and non productive. The show consists of Tinky winky, Laa Laa, Dipsy and Po. These creatures
resembled some type of aliens in a suit who live in an abnormal world composed of non existent
technology. This show seems to be the show that started the revolution to commercialization in public
television. Leaving aside the negative effects of children s television, TV learning is not a new
activity. Parents have busy lives, which makes it more and more tempting to let their children watch
TV. Parents feel more satisfied leaving their kids with trusted television. Although children seem to
favor entertainment TV, parents tend to think more positively about educational TV. PBS has ... Show

Episodes were backed up by research and evaluations. The show was humorous, entertaining, and
educational. Episodes showed children how to count, learn colors and learn to be equal. The show
uses repetition to teach. Repetition has been proven to be a learning method that works with children.
The Teletubbies continuously uses repetition. However, do they teach anything? Critics have said that
there are no realistic characteristics in the show. The characters mumble and do not say words
correctly. Children may not fully develop proper speech if they try to copy the Teletubbies. Their
world is unreal. They live underground where machines make toast and vacuum. There is not anything

Hunter Stockton Thompson, a man that lived an interesting life, and let his life be the betterment of

Not an Ayn Rand Essay
The fiction novel, The Fountainhead, by Ayn Rand is based off of her philosophy of Objectivism. Ayn
Rand defines and separates her philosophy of Objectivism into four different and distinct parts. The
first part Ayn Rand explains is Metaphysics. Metaphysics is an objective reality where you only accept
facts as reality and not fantasies or desires. The next part of Objectivism is Epistemology, which is
reasoning by perceiving reality by using knowledge or facts as your guide. The third part is Ethics and
self interest. The final part of Objectivism is laissez faire capitalism, which is equal trade while the
government acts as a police force only. The third part of Objectivism, Ethics and Self Interest, is
explained by Ayn Rand as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Ayn Rand wrote The Fountainhead, she intended to keep the syntax simple so readers could get
an understanding of Objectivism and individualism. We can clearly see that the protagonist, Howard
Roark, is portrayed as an objectivist and individualist, who also rejects the worst of social standards,
while Lois Cook is seen as a radical, who objects the best of social standards.
When we go even further into The Fountainhead, we discover that Howard Roark loves his type of
modernistic design in architecture rather than referring to the older and more identifiable types of
architecture from history, such as Greek or Roman architecture. Because he prefers to modernize his
own designs, he is suspended from Stanton s institute of technology and has been removed from
several jobs. Roark was offered a job to build a new bank, but he won t change any of his own
designs. The worst part about Howard Roark s out of luck situation is that his designs are
brilliant.Even Peter Keating refers to Howard Roark in needs of assistance, because Howard Roark s
designs are wonderful and unique to the eyes of people. Even then, when Howard Roark isn t given
credit for designing the buildings, credit was all given to Keating, who didn t have enough faith for
himself to, at the least, attempt to create his own architectural designs. While we continue to look at
Howard Roark, we can see that while Ayn Rand created Howard Roark, he stays as his own

Clinical Decision Support System ( Cdss ) Essay
Background Information Clinical decision support system (CDSS) is gaining increased recognition in
healthcare organizations. This is due to an increasing recognition that a stronger CDSS is crucial to
achieve a high quality of patients care and safety1,2. CDSS is a class of computerized information
system that supports decision making activities2. It uses patient data to provide tailored patient
assessments and evidence based treatment recommendations for healthcare providers to consider2,3 .
Patient data can be input by digital entry, queried from other clinical information systems or
transmitted from medical devices. Patient data are compared against a knowledge base and made
sense of by an inference mechanism. The knowledge base can be procured commercially or developed
in house. The inference mechanism can be highly variable in sophistication ranging from a simple yes
no and if then statement to Bayesian prediction techniques and/or fuzzy logic. The output can also
take a number of forms and can be delivered to a number of destinations at any time before, during or
post interaction with the patient4. CDS is most effective when provided at the time that the physician
is formulating her assessment of the patient s condition and is making ordering decisions2. CDS
encompasses a variety of tools to enhance decision making in the clinical workflow. These tools
include computerized alerts and reminders to care providers and patients; clinical guidelines;

Development of a Lab-on-a-Chip Device to Detect DNA Double...
Proposal Summary
We propose to develop a lab on a chip device for the detection of DNA double strand breaks in situ.
Current technology requires laborious manipulation of the cell sample by fixation and staining with
antibody and an optical based detection. All in all, the process may take up to several days before
results are retrieved. The development of an on site, immediate monitoring system will greatly benefit
our understanding of DNA damage causes and prevention as well assessment of radiation risk by
tracking such events instantaneously. Our proposed device is based on individually addressable carbon
nanotube (CNT) array capable of multiplexing for detection of multiple analytes and targets from a
biological sample. The impact of this device in our information based world is manifold. Not only will
the device make it accessible for the user to track, assess and follow trends of their own DNA damage
levels but also empowers the user in making more informed lifestyle choices. Introduction
With rising urbanization, the DNA in our cells is increasingly being exposed to DNA damaging agents
such as UV light, mutagenic chemicals, reactive oxygen species generated by Ionizing Radiation (IR)
or redox cycling by heavy metal ions and radio mimetic drugs etc. DNA Double strand breaks (DSBs)
occur when reactive oxygen species react with DNA bases causing lesions in the chromosomes and
the formation of foci known as Radiation induced foci (RFI). RFI are marked by the

Watteau s Use Of Nature In The Art Of Libertarianism
Through about 1710 1750, the Rococo era of art flourished throughout France and soon made its way
through the rest of Europe. The word Rococo comes from the combined words of barocco , a
Portuguese word meaning over the top, and the French word racaille meaning shells. (Barrett)
Emerging from France during the rule of Louis XV, Rococo art was distinguished by its portrayal of
aristocratic standards and principles. Because the genre grew in a time of libertarianism, Rococo art
initiated the approval of sensuality and this was depicted through its use of nature. The role of nature
in Rococo art represents the cultural freedom of France and other various meanings. Jean Antoine
Watteau, famous French painter, uses of nature in his paintings ... Show more content on

Watteau paints a scene of people dancing, socializing, and becoming intimate with one another.
Everyone in the painting is basking in play and leisure and this type of behavior implies that
embracing in pleasure is natural. Since the pilgrims are one with nature, their sensuality is validated
and approved. This carefree type of mentality is shown within nature s setting; therefore, pleasure is
accepted and is considered natural. Another example of nature displaying the approval of sensuality is
in Watteau s painting, La Fete D Amour (The Feast of Love), 1719. In Watteau s painting, we see that
the main focal point is intimacy in a natural environment. Again, Watteau is depicting a scene of
aristocrats leisurely socializing in an open and succulent setting. Although there is a stronger sense of
sexual intimacy shown through the closeness of the couples, because of Watteau s use of nature in the
scene, it is seen as natural and acceptable. In Suzanne Folds article, A Study for La Fete D Amour by
Antoine Watteau 1684 1721 , she explains how the nature in the scene captures the effects of the
painting. She

Robert Frost s Life Through Poetry
March 23, 2016
Robert Frost Reflects Life Through Poetry
It is easy to express your emotions, and feelings through poetry. Which is exactly what Robert Frost
has done through his entire career. Each poem Robert Frost has written, has meaning behind it all. He
has gone through an extreme amount of events, and tragedies in his life. Frost has been through an
unimaginable amount of losses, deaths, and loneliness throughout his years. Throughout his life his
poetry has had a huge impact on him, the situations and losses, and emotions he had encountered in
his life were expressed and showed throughout his poetry.
Robert had suffered from emotional and physical abuse throughout his childhood, which had caused
him to live his life being apprehensive, and afraid. Even though these things had caused him to be
emotionally unstable, and leave him fearful for his entire life; they had also allowed him to be one of
the most incredible poets in history. Frost s father was an alcoholic who had anger issues as well, one
time he had whipped young Roberts s legs repeatedly with a dog chain (Postema, 160). Frost was born
in San Francisco, where he had lived for 11 years, until his father had passed away due to Tuberculosis
in 1885. After his father s passing, himself, his mother and his sister Jeanie had moved to Eastern
Massachusetts. Isabelle Frost (Robert s mother), had helped her family by getting a job to be a teacher,
which allowed her to continue teaching and homeschooling her own

Questions On Buying Real Estate
Frequently Asked Questions About Buying Real Estate in an IRA
Many people have questions about the legality and the rules for buying real estate within IRAs and
other tax favored accounts. Below are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions.
Is it really legal to buy real estate in your IRA?
Yes, absolutely! The Internal Revenue Code does not tell you what you can do with your IRA, only
what you cannot do. Other than restrictions on purchasing life insurance and most collectibles in your
IRA, nearly everything else is fair game. Unless your IRA is self directed, however, your custodian
may not allow investments in real estate. As is pointed out in the FAQs Regarding IRAs page on the
IRS website (www.irs.gov), IRA trustees are permitted to impose additional restrictions on
investments. For example, because of administrative burdens, many IRA trustees do not permit IRA
owners to invest IRA funds in real estate. IRA law does not prohibit investing in real estate but
trustees are not required to offer real estate as an option.
Why haven t I heard of this before?
Most likely, it is simply because custodians for the more traditional brokerage style of IRA are simply
not set up to handle the unique challenges of administering alternative investments like real estate.
They are experts at the purchase and sale of securities, not real estate. If you call up one of the major
brokerage style custodians and ask them if you can buy real estate in your IRA, they

Research Paper On Mama Mia
Mamma Mia
Movies about romance are very common, but a movie about romance with a musical format seems to
never go out of style. From the timeless classic Grease, to the recent award winning film La La Land,
romantic musicals continue to captivate their audience. To create an impactful romantic musical movie
you need a detailed plot, catchy soundtrack, and a talented cast. Without these elements, it leaves the
movie distasteful and boring. Mamma Mia the movie directed by Phyllida Lloyd stands out among
other romantic musicals.
Mamma Mia is set on the Greek island of Kalokairi, as people are arriving for the wedding of Sophie

creating a larger audience. Slipping Through My Fingers plays with your heartstrings as it tells the
story of a mother s love for her daughter. Dancing Queen makes you want to get up and dance along.

British Sonnets
The British sonnets To Sleep and Come Sleep! O Sleep, the certain knot of peace , written by John
Keats and Sir Phillip Sidney respectively, contain many similarities and a few distinct differences.
They both are about the act of falling to sleep and the many beneficial thing that come from sleeping.
Both of these sonnets are also very moving in their exquisite use of an assortment of literary
techniques. However, these sonnets differ in the tone in which they are written, the speed at which
they are intended to be read, and their rhyme scheme. The British sonnets To Sleep and Come Sleep!
O Sleep, the certain knot of peace are very similar in their subject matter and use of literary
techniques, but are quite different in their tone, designed reading speed and rhyme scheme. The British
sonnets To Sleep and Come Sleep! O Sleep, the certain knot of peace contain many similarities.
Perhaps the two sonnets greatest common factor is their extensive use of personification. The two
authors of these poems both use personification to humanize sleep. Personification is displayed in To
Sleep when the narrator calls sleep the soft embalmer of the still midnight (Keats 1). The narrator is
bestowing upon the sleep the title of the soft embalmer of the still midnight (Keats 1). The use of
placing a title of something non human bestows near human like status upon said non human object.
Sir Phillip Sidney also uses personification in his sonnet, Come Sleep! O Sleep, the

Annual Report Naval Surface Warfare Center
III. Analysis
Some of the artifacts that define the NSWC PCD culture include the Annual Report Naval Surface
Warfare Center, strategic plan, annual employee survey results and follow on actions, and display
cases in lobbies of buildings across the base, lack of a formal dress code, and flexible schedules. The
commands values can be seen in the verbiage in the artifacts, e.g. technical rigor, investing in people,
equal opportunity. After the annual employee surveys are analyzed the CO and TD meet with each
department to report the results of the survey and the action items the CO will take to address any
problems identified. Special attention is always given to analysis of demographics and diversity in
upward mobility trends. The first female department head took over the business support department
four years ago. In 2014 there were four female department heads of the six departments. However,
there is only one deputy department head at this time, and very few female division level managers. A
total of only six division or branch head positons are held by women.
Walking into the lobby of the building 110, location of all upper management offices, a visitor is met
with a plethora of display showing naval or command history, examples of items developed at the
base, CO/TD annual award personnel s pictures and write ups, and reminders of any special awards
for specific projects or events of the month. All of which server as reminders of who is in charge, or of

However, Listerine Whitening and Plax Whitening could not match the results of supervised home bleaching methods, such as 10% Carbamide peroxide Whitening gel. This factor could be caused by the fact that Whitening mouth rinses contain a lower percentage of hydrogen peroxide. Listerine Whitening contains 2% of hydrogen peroxide and Plax Whitening contains 1.5%. Additionally, how acidic the mouth rise is can determine the whitening effect of the mouthwash. If the mouthwash is to acidic it can cause the shade of the teeth to become darker over time. Another factor that researchers has stated that can affect the whitening effect of whitening mouthwashes is the exposure time. The use of Whitening mouth rinses is recent and few studies on this topic are available (Oliveira et al., 2017). Additionally, manufactures conduct their own evaluations or fund researchers to test their product. Thus, there is no need to conduct independent studies using commercially available products to learn the action and possible side effects of mouth rinses and other over the counter bleaching products (Lima et al., 2012). More clinical trials are needed so that researchers can ensure the effectiveness of whitening mouth rinses, and determine the best protocol to use ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As we see with the fairly recent presidential elections between Republican Nominee [now president] Donald Trump and Democratic Nominee and Senator Hilary Clinton, our current political system is amuck. It is asinine, it s crazy, it is viscous, and above all else, it is in shambles. This paves the way for the million dollar question we are all left racking our brains to answer what happened to us? More so, there appears to be a cookie cutter mold which major candidates must adhere to, to have a successful career and impact on their constituents. Despite the prevalence of religious opinions and faith based values aired out to the populace, Lofgren does point out the unique points that we [as a nation] are lucky that our foreign policies and national decisions are not based on one s adherence to faith or religious scriptures, and that we should keep it this way. Elimination of Special Preferences. Flat tax proposals would eliminate provisions of the tax code that bestow preferential tax treatment on certain behaviors and activities. Getting rid of deductions, credits, exemptions, and other loopholes also helps solve the problem of complexity, allowing taxpayers to file their tax returns on a postcard sized form. No Double Taxation of Saving and Invest¬ment. Flat tax proposals would eliminate the tax code s bias against capital formation by ending the double taxation of income that is saved and invested. This means no death tax, no capital gains tax, no double taxation of saving, and no double tax on dividends. By taxing income only one time, a flat tax is easier to enforce and more conducive to job creation and capital formation. Territorial Taxation. Intersectional Framework Of Criminology of earlier radical feminists, more contemporary feminist criminologists have since argued for a more intersectional approach for explaining crime and criminal justice processes (Belknap 2001; Britton 2004; Burgess Proctor 2006; Chesney Lind 2006; Daly 1997; Morash 2006; Potter 2006). Intersectionality strengthens criminology in many ways. In particular, an intersectional framework is important because it is applicable to all individuals in that it recognizes how some intersecting social identities (e.g., white, middle class, men) advantage certain individuals in some respects while disadvantaging others (e.g., Black, working class, women) (Burgess Proctor 2006). Simpson (1989: 619) specifically notes how feminist criminologists have often relied on an add race and stir method when it came to studies on gender and crime, assuming that all women have similar experiences. In order to more fully integrate feminist and intersectional methods into criminological work, feminist criminologists must recognize that the standpoint of woman is not monolithic, rather they should approach their research with the understanding that differences among women exist (Burgess Proctor 2006; Daly and Chesney Lind 1988; Flavin 2004; Simpson ... In my judgment rules that apply to a host of other symbols, such as state flags, armbands, or various privately promoted emblems of political or commercial identity, are not necessarily controlling. Even if flag burning could be considered just another species of symbolic speech under the logical application of the rules that the Court has developed in its interpretation of the First Amendment in other contexts, this case has an intangible dimension that makes those rules inapplicable. • 14. Thomas Descartes s Dream Argument And The Dream... In the First Meditation Descartes famously presented his dream argument or dream paradox in which he questions how we can distinguish between dreams and waking life. In this essay, I will explore various responses to the argument such as Hobbes and Locke and how I think Descartes would dismiss these arguments. I will finally present my own criticism alongside the work of Austin, Simpson and Ryle in order to illustrate the inconsistency of Descartes claims. In order to deconstruct the dream paradox I will appeal to one of the three common methods of solving paradoxes; denying a premise, particularly the first premise as this results in the collapse of the remaining conditional premises. I will ultimately show that the dream argument is a paradox and how this causes the dream argument to fail. Descartes aim throughout the first segment of his Meditations to overthrow existing foundations of knowledge and encourages readers to remove prior knowledge and prejudices in order to fully accept the new foundations which he aims to establish. The method of doubt is used to find beliefs that can serve as a new foundation for knowledge. Only beliefs that are certain, immune from doubt, can perform this function. Descartes argued that what we believe on the basis of the senses cannot meet the standard. Consequently, he concluded, we do not know anything on the basis of our senses and the dream argument is formed. The dream argument results from a realization by Descartes that he ... However, unlike change, which is a shift in what a person is used to, a transition is a turning point that often causes a major reshaping in a person s life (Transitions Class Notes, 2010). There are five types of transitions that a person can experience. The transitions include developmental, health illness, organizational, situational, and multiple (Situational Transitions Class Notes, 2012). Having a lack of resources available to meet their needs and family conflict surrounding cultural preferences, can lead to the youth to have feelings of powerlessness and despair. Powerlessness is the perception that one lacks the capacity or authority to affect an outcome (Situational Transitions Class Notes, 2012). Without the proper resources available to immigrant youth in their new culture and surroundings, they can feel as if there is nothing they can do to assist them to progress in their new life. Also, because of family conflict, youth may feel as if they cannot talk to their parents about their difficulties and therefore have nobody to support them through this challenging time. This can cause them to feel defeated and believe themselves to be inadequate in their capabilities. What Is Mexiconia s Identity Franconians and their own interpretation of their Bavarian identity First of all the German or Bavarian Franconians (German = Franken) are not a Swiss currency or so help me god are not related to the modern French people. Along with the famous case of Phineas Gage (Harlow,1848), many studies have attempted to answer the burning question of either or not lesions to the prefrontal cortex lead to an antisocial behavior. The PFC, which is found in the frontal lobe and has an executive function, helps us have an appropriate response to social situations. Why is it important to study this matter? Because we are social creatures and knowing how to act in society is one of our basic needs. The studies which will be presented show that there is an obvious link between dysfunction of the PFC and an antisocial way of acting. In the developmental neuropsychology literature, it has been proved that social emotional and executive function defects are associated with early damage to the PFC. Piaget (1968) claimed that children learn from experience and this is the way in which they obtain adaptive characteristics. Therefore, studying patients such as children can give a lot of information about the effect of brain maturation and social development. The study conducted by Eslinger(2004) reveals 10 cases of patients suffering from early prefrontal cortex damage highlighting one of the most informative cases available in the literature on human prefrontal lobe damage , the case of Acherly and Benton(1948). I will look at an example of a famous person renowned for being intelligent and what there IQ test result would likely of been, if tested. Starting with a definition from the oxford dictionary we can then go on to see how varied the definitions of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Terman (1921) describes intelligence as a person s ability of abstract thinking (1921, cited in Heim, 1970). It seems that psychologists find it hard to reach an agreement to define intelligence, resulting in the final definition I will mention from Vernon (1969) intelligence is what intelligence tests measure (1969, cited in Howe, 1997). Although most definitions seem to have a similarity, the meaning of intelligence can vary over time and through cultures. It was once thought that intelligence was all down to a persons ability with spelling and arithmetic, whereas in the islands of the south pacific a persons ability to navigate the oceans and there spatial memory are the way to judge a persons intelligence level (MSN, 2005). It seems a nomothetic approach is needed to even attempt to measure intelligence. All tests need to be reliable, correlate with existing test scores and show face, internal and ecological validity (MSN, 2005). Intelligence tests were developed to predict school children s eventual academic results (MSN, 2005). In England in the 1880 s Galton made the first attempt at measuring intelligence. Galton s theory was that a person with a good degree of intelligence would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. The United States Involvement During The Civil War In the year of 1898, Spain declared war on the United States. The U.S. prime objective was for the true Cuban independence. In pursuing such goal, the string of conflicts began with the inhumane treatment of Cuban civilians in concentration camps by the Spanish, yellow journalism, and the sinking of the U.S.S. Maine. The United States involvement in the war was a combination of all of these factors; however, the most influential factor was the sinking of the U.S.S. Maine. The outrage of American citizens advanced throughout the country. Ultimately, the firm perception of a deliberate attack on the Maine pressured the United States into the war. Without a clear rationale, the American public compelled the United States to avenge the Maine. After a short four month war, United States won the war and emerged as a dominant force in the world. The Spanish American war centers around many contributing elements. The first of these events was the reconcentration policy. General Weyler was put in charge to stop Cuban rebels from expanding. Such policy was intended to protect the noncombatant peasantry of the island, but his sole object was to compel them to put themselves wholly in the power of the Spanish officials (White). The policy forced all rural district civilians to move into cities and towns that were still under Weyler s control. Moreover, Weyler concluded that this would prevent civilians from assisting rebels with information or food. He enforced the concentration ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The perception of popular culture is something that emanates, starting from the lower class to the higher class. There is an authenticity within each class of the understanding of popular culture. One could perceive a cultural object as spiritual, exploitive, or perhaps even a medium of communication from history to present day. As Stuart Hall proclaims, the power of perception of a cultural object can make the view of popular culture as a site for struggle between the different social forces and classes over the meaning and value ascribed to a certain cultural object (442). It uses patient data to provide tailored patient assessments and evidence based treatment recommendations for healthcare providers to consider2,3 . Patient data can be input by digital entry, queried from other clinical information systems or transmitted from medical devices. Patient data are compared against a knowledge base and made sense of by an inference mechanism. The knowledge base can be procured commercially or developed in house. The inference mechanism can be highly variable in sophistication ranging from a simple yes no and if then statement to Bayesian prediction techniques and/or fuzzy logic. The output can also take a number of forms and can be delivered to a number of destinations at any time before, during or post interaction with the patient4. Current technology requires laborious manipulation of the cell sample by fixation and staining with antibody and an optical based detection. All in all, the process may take up to several days before results are retrieved. The development of an on site, immediate monitoring system will greatly benefit our understanding of DNA damage causes and prevention as well assessment of radiation risk by tracking such events instantaneously. Our proposed device is based on individually addressable carbon nanotube (CNT) array capable of multiplexing for detection of multiple analytes and targets from a biological sample. The impact of this device in our information based world is manifold. Not only will the device make it accessible for the user to track, assess and follow trends of their own DNA damage levels but also empowers the user in making more informed lifestyle choices. Introduction With rising urbanization, the DNA in our cells is increasingly being exposed to DNA damaging agents such as UV light, mutagenic chemicals, reactive oxygen species generated by Ionizing Radiation (IR) or redox cycling by heavy metal ions and radio mimetic drugs etc. DNA Double strand breaks (DSBs) occur when reactive oxygen species react with DNA bases causing lesions in the chromosomes and the formation of foci known as Radiation induced foci (RFI). The word Rococo comes from the combined words of barocco , a Portuguese word meaning over the top, and the French word racaille meaning shells. (Barrett) Emerging from France during the rule of Louis XV, Rococo art was distinguished by its portrayal of aristocratic standards and principles. Because the genre grew in a time of libertarianism, Rococo art initiated the approval of sensuality and this was depicted through its use of nature. Everyone in the painting is basking in play and leisure and this type of behavior implies that embracing in pleasure is natural. Since the pilgrims are one with nature, their sensuality is validated and approved. This carefree type of mentality is shown within nature s setting; therefore, pleasure is accepted and is considered natural. Another example of nature displaying the approval of sensuality is in Watteau s painting, La Fete D Amour (The Feast of Love), 1719. In Watteau s painting, we see that the main focal point is intimacy in a natural environment. Again, Watteau is depicting a scene of aristocrats leisurely socializing in an open and succulent setting. Although there is a stronger sense of sexual intimacy shown through the closeness of the couples, because of Watteau s use of nature in the scene, it is seen as natural and acceptable. Questions On Buying Real Estate Frequently Asked Questions About Buying Real Estate in an IRA Many people have questions about the legality and the rules for buying real estate within IRAs and other tax favored accounts. Below are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions. Is it really legal to buy real estate in your IRA? Yes, absolutely! The Internal Revenue Code does not tell you what you can do with your IRA, only what you cannot do. Other than restrictions on purchasing life insurance and most collectibles in your IRA, nearly everything else is fair game. Unless your IRA is self directed, however, your custodian may not allow investments in real estate. As is pointed out in the FAQs Regarding IRAs page on the IRS website (www.irs.gov), IRA trustees are permitted to impose additional restrictions on investments. For example, because of administrative burdens, many IRA trustees do not permit IRA owners to invest IRA funds in real estate. IRA law does not prohibit investing in real estate but trustees are not required to offer real estate as an option. Why haven t I heard of this before? Most likely, it is simply because custodians for the more traditional brokerage style of IRA are simply not set up to handle the unique challenges of administering alternative investments like real estate. They are experts at the purchase and sale of securities, not real estate. If you call up one of the major brokerage style custodians and ask them if you can buy real estate in your IRA, they ...
