Foamed Polystyrene Research Paper
Pollution has become an emerging issue in our contemporary society. The awful smell reeks of
filth as it wraps itself around my body like the second skin. The particles invade my lungs and
sting my eyes even if I squint into the city streets at Wichita downtown. They call it smog, but
truly it is a chemical soup that can only shorten our lives and exacerbate health issues. Whenever
this happens, some walk in face masks, others hide in homes with air filtration, but most of us
can afford neither. We take food where we can get it and sleep fitfully amidst our own coughing.
The old tale of a time when the air was so clean that trees and blossoms had a fragrance and the sky

Bacteria, fungi and other decomposers cannot break down these substances because of their
chemical composition. Styrofoam, also known as foamed polystyrene, is a non biodegradable
substance that can cause environmental problems when it becomes litter. For instance, styrene, a
neurotoxin at high doses, can leach out of polystyrene materials when temperatures climb and
this can be detrimental. Sadly, the only places we now call clean are our homes: some of our
lawns are also pristine. We feel that the pollutants are within the dome as the rest of our local
community is a barren wasteland, home only to the chemical pollutants we expel from our
bubble. However, life carries on much like it always did, only the television has less news to
report about this issue. The dome is blue to mimic the way the sky used to look, the energy
pumped in from solar panels above the smog layer. They say the oceans are dead: all life extinct,
but we should plunge in and save our local lakes and rivers from this tragedy by skimming off the
plastics from the surface. Our breathable air is now courtesy of the scientists rather than the trees.
We had all the advantages, all the ability to live in a pristine state and county of rich natural beauty,
but we squandered it chasing material wealth. All this can be changed through a united

Legal Ramifications For A Company
Introduction
In a company there are 3 ways to generate capital, which can be generated internally through the
sales of assets or from profitable operations. Another was is from the issues of shares to potential
investors who are willing to contribute to the company and lastly borrowing from creditors. This
report is looking into legal ramifications for a company deciding to finance it activities through
equity (share capital) or debt (loan capital).
Companies Act 1993 in relation to Shareholders
Companies Act 1993 section 84 requires every company to have at least one shareholder and at
least one share . A common liability to shareholders is that they have an obligation to pay the
amount that is being owed in his or her shares if the company goes into liquidation. This liability is
for the shareholder of the current and the prior shareholder. In Section 96 of the Companies Act
1993 it states that a shareholder is a person s name who is entered in the company s share
register as being the holder at that time of one or more shares in the company and section 51
states that shares are considered issued once the holders name if entered in to the share register.
Tryrion Holdings Ltd v Claydon states in order to be a shareholder, the holder needs to be
registered into the share register. In this case Tyrion is not listed in the shareholder as there was
no share register known and any direct evidence of a share register existing. Neich v Roseka Ltd

Why Did The British Petroleum Oil Spill
April 20, 2010 has gone down in the history books as the day that the most horrific oil spill in
history happened. British Petroleum s leased offshore drilling rig exploded on this day. The
Deepwater Horizon caused the largest accidental marine oil spill ever (Crandall, Parnell and
Spillan, 2013). The ruptured oil well leaked nearly 5 million barrels of oil into the sea over a
three month period of time. The devastation killed eleven men. 17 others were severely injured.
The devastation reached marine wildlife and some 5 years later, that group is still feeling the after
affects.
This tragedy was bound to happen at some point because all of the key indicators were in place. In
the 1980 s the United States began to look for solutions

Cross Country Persuasive Speech
Ready, set, bang, the starter gun goes off, thousands of people cheer, hundreds of runners on your
left and right, and the only thing you re focus on is crossing the finish line. Your heart is
pounding, your stomach twists around itself, and the lactic acid builds in your legs to a point
where all you can focus on is the pain that each step takes. But this is Cross Country. Outlasting the
pain is part of the sport and if you hadn t known that from the start you wouldn t have joined right?
And you wouldn t have stayed all four years either. The competition is another factor too, because
in each race you are lined up against two hundred to three hundred other competitors, each of whom
wants it as much as you do. Knowing that, every runner... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like a story, the end of the race tells you who s the winner and gives you new insight on how to

left to go, pick up your pace because it s going to be a battle to the finish. Always finish strong.
The last two hundred meters of the race sprint! Your legs are going to feel wobbly like a noodle,
your body heated, and everything just aches, but don t give in. Use the energy of the crowd
cheering to motivate you and also keep your running form. Whatever energy you have left on
reserve, use it, because when it comes down to it, every runner you pass or get passed by can be

Examples Of Summarize Findings
Summarize Findings The most reactive substance in this lab was the crushed liver core, it
produced the most amount of heat, bubbles, and the biggest flame during the glowing splint test.
The manganese dioxide and the liver core were also very reactive and they both produced a flame
during the glowing splint test. Next, the potato core produced a slight reaction, but it was not as
extreme as the other substances. Finally, just the hydrogen peroxide and the boiled liver core had
no reaction and did not produce a flameduring the glowing splint test.
Sources of error A few sources of error may have occurred during this lab, one of the main sources
of error could have been mixing up which liver is which. This could drastically affect the

What effect would adding HCl or NaOH to the liver or potato have? Clearly explain your
reasoning. It would change the pH of the liver or potato as HCl is very acidic and NaOH is very
basic. Changes in pH can denature the protein in the enzymes which could result in no reaction.
For most enzymes, they require a very specific pH, so when a solution becomes too acidic or too
basic, no reaction can occur as the enzyme will become denatured by the abrupt change in pH.
6. What effect would slightly cooling or heating the test tube have? Slightly cooling or heating the
test tube could also result in the proteins in the enzymes becoming denatured by the changes in the
temperature. Enzymes also require very specific temperatures to function properly, so if the
temperature changed too dramatically no reaction would occur. If the change in temperature was
not dramatic, it could just affect the rate of reaction, so it might slow down the reaction, but the
reaction would eventually occur.

change in the dragging, below average work and absenteeism will noticeably be improved.
Respect
You firstly have to have respect for yourself before you can earn respect of others, in saying this
you have to see yourself as someone worthy of respect. This quality of management includes
consideration for other people s privacy, their physical space and belongings. In the same light it
also includes respecting different viewpoints, philosophies, physical ability, beliefs and
personality. Regardless of the quality or standard of work of the employee, respect still has to be
shown and the corrective procedures should be followed where need be but negative criticism
should definitely not be tolerated.
From experience in my market existence I have gathered that i still have quite a bit of learning to
do before I will excel at being a high quality and effective manager.
When I measure my emotional intelligence up to what it effectively should be then I can
comfortably say that I am not too far off from where it should be. I do understand that all humans
bleed and have feelings therefore I base my decisions on my judgement. I am to a great extent able

The Electoral College Is The Best Interests Of All The People
The Electoral College has long been controversial, and is subject to both criticism and defense.
To understand why either side is valid we must look at its values and its weaknesses, its pros and
cons. The Electoral College was devised to proportionally dole out the power of selecting our
executives geographically. In doing so the Electoral Collegegives otherwise marginalized portions
of the U.S. population a voice. Adversely the Electoral College can be seen as an obstruction to
democracyand the will of the people. Whether or not the Electoral College serves the best interests
of all the people in United States is up to debate. This paper functions to reveal what validities either
argument may include.
The Electoral College was founded on the idea that no entity, federal or popular, should have the
power to singularly determine the outcome of electing our country s executive. Founding father
James Madison writes in the Federalist papers about his concern regarding tyrannical factions that
arise in pure democracies. Madison in Federalist Paper No. 10, recognizes a faction as ...a number
of citizens, whether amounting to a majority or a minority of the whole, who are united and
actuated by some common impulse of passion, or of interest, adversed to the rights of other
citizens, or to the permanent and aggregate interests of the community. (The Federalist Papers) In
order to combat the tyranny of the majority while maintaining a democratic selection process of our

Essay on Food Security in the Democratic Republic of Congo
Script for Geography
Good morning/afternoon
Today I will talk about food security in the Democratic Republic of Congo. DR Congo is an
African country that consists of over 2,300,000 square kilometres (Central Intelligence Agency
(US), 2013). The population in DR Congo is around seventy five and a half million people with an
average life expectancy of 56 years, a lot shorter than Australians (Central Intelligence Agency
(US), 2013). The religion consists of Roman Catholic, Protestant and Muslims plus some other
smaller religions (Central Intelligence Agency (US), 2013). The capital city is called Kinshasa,

In DR Congo there are two main agriculture regions, Plains of the east and the south and the
eastern highlands (The Washington Post Company, 2001). In the plains coffee beans, potatoes and
leeks are grown, while in the highlands tomatoes, sweet potatoes, yum and pumpkins are grow as
the temperatures are cool and there is more fertile soil (The Washington Post Company, 2001). DR
Congo is ranked 107th (the worst) in the world (Global Food Security Index, 2013). This ranking
is produced by the lack of food affordability, food availability and more importantly the quality and
safety of the food (Global Food Security Index, 2013). Every country, whether it s DR Congo or
America, have some strengths when it comes to food security. For DR Congo their strengths are
agricultural import tariffs (affordability), Volatility of agriculture production (availability), and
nutritional standards (quality and safety of food), just to name some (Global Food Security Index,
2013).
Some challenges that DR Congo face, in terms of food security, can be put in three sections as
stated before (Global Food Security Index, 2013). In the affordability section they have problems
with access to financing for farmers, Food consumption and the proportion of the population that
are under the poverty line (Global Food Security Index, 2013). In the next section, availability of
food, they have problems with corruption, agricultural infrastructure and

Family Values Linda Chavez Summary
Are Immigrants actually hurting America? In the article Supporting Family Values Linda Chavez
writes to inform Americans about immigrants. In American people make the assumption that
immigrants are here to hurt America instead of improving America. In reality there is only a small
group of immigrants that hurt America. People need to separate the groups to realize that there are
immigrants who help America and that they should be allowed to stay in America under certain
circumstances. Immigrants should be given amnesty if they have families and work to contribute to
America. Firstly, Families are important in America, the lifestyle of Americans is based around

Perry feels that if Americans realize the way that women immigrants are viewed then maybe people
will think before they judge. These articles show that a lot of times Americans look at immigrants
and judge them on stereotypes. These authors show that immigrants should not be judged because
they have a different background form American citizens. Secondly, Immigrants that contribute to
the American society often pay taxes and learn to speak the English language often work but are
not treated equally as Native Americans are. Chavez talks about how there is a big difference in
the amount of male immigrants are in the work force compared to the amount of US males in the
work force (455). People often make the assumption that immigrants are paid the same as US
citizens, but in reality they are paid less weather they are legal or illegal. The difference in the
amount that immigrants make and American born people is astounding illegal immigrants was
36,000 in 2007 compared with 50,000 for native born households (Chavez 455). She makes this
statement to show the difference in the amount that immigrants make compared to the amount
Native Americans make. To show that even though immigrant work more that Native Americans
they are paid less because they are not from America (Chavez 455). Roger Waldinger also talks
about working immigrants in Immigration Reform Too Hot to Handle. Waldinger states that the jobs
that immigrants can fill only are open for a short

Analyzing Crime Statistics Essay
Crime statistics endeavor to provide statistical measures of crime in societies. They provide a point
of analysis and comparison, allow countries to form long term patterns and trends and can help to
develop and reform criminal justice policies as well as being more meaningful than raw numbers.
Using the countries of Bahrain and the United States as a comparison point for the following issues
which surround crimestatistics such as biases, agendas and general influences like education and
religion; this essay will be focused around analysing the statistical factors and wider influences
which can allow a country to have low or high crime rates. Definitions of what exactly constitutes
being a crime differ not only across countries but... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So for any kind of comparison of crime rates to work at all, it is crucial that the definitions of crimes
and the categories they are placed in are similar. The next issue with definitions is that even the
different organizations that compile crime statistics differ within their own definitions. INTERPOL
for example defines murder as: Any act performed with the purpose of taking human life, excluding
abortion but including infanticide (and including attempts).(Kalish, 1988)
While the World Health Organization (WHO) does not distinguish between intentional or
unintentional homicides but does not include attempts under this organization attempts fall under a
separate legal distinction(Kalish, 1988). And again, the United Nations have a different definition
for homicide: Death purposely inflicted by another person, including infanticide. (Kalish, 1988)
Due to major issues with the above topics across all countries, due to definitional and categorical
differences, crime statistics can differ significantly.
In Bahrain, crimes against the individual are ranked in relation to the seriousness of the offence,
murder, attempted murder, murder by error, assault, threatening and others. In the United States,
offences are not classed separately, but into broad categories which are homicides, robberies and
assaults. Bahrain does not report rape as a single category and in response, no reports of rape have
been sent to

Factors Of Career And Personality Assessments
Pathway to Elementary Education Emily is college freshman at Tarrant County College, a

and then would like to transfer to a larger university. She is struggling with the decision of
choosing a major. Deciding what she wants to do for the rest of her life is very stressful. Her
parents think she should go into the medical field because the jobs are plentiful, but she never did
well in her science classes in high school, and the sight of blood makes her sick. Emily mentioned
that she worked with the second grade class at church and always enjoyed her time with this age

advisor, I suggested some helpful steps she should take that would assist her in making these
important decisions.
Assessments
One of the first steps in helping a student who is undecided about their degree is to suggest useful
assessments. Career and personality assessments are beneficial in several ways. They can help
provide insight into personality traits, skills, and interests of a student. The results in turn can help
students make connections between these traits and careers that they are well suited for. There are
two tools in particular that I find beneficial. The first is a database called O*Net Online. This
website has assessment tools to measure abilities, interests, knowledge and skills. It also has

Why Marches Aren T What They Used To Be Summary
In Why Marches Aren t What They Used to Be , David Leonhardt ineffectually argues that the
use of mass marches as a method of protesting political issues are not necessarily a sign of an
actual movement and not as effective as they were pre internet. Leonhardt s argument is heavily
loaded with quotations from other authors and lacks clarity on some of his points. Even without
fully defending his position following the quotations or completely explaining some points of his
argument, his strategy will likely open readers up to further discussion and research. Leonhardt
opens the article by introducing two authors, one of which he does not reference to again
throughout his writing. He states that David Brook s critique of the Women s March generated a
lot of discussion among Times readers which is a great introductory statement but proved to be
irrelevant to the article because he does not reference back to Brook s critique anywhere in his
writing. Immediately after this, he introduces author Zeynep Tufecki who offers her own critique
on the woman s march. Since Brook s critique generated a lot of discussion among Times... Show

Blood streams through the body through blood vessels (arteries, capillaries and veins). These blood
vessels pierce through tissue throughout the body, absorbing glucose, amino acids, vitamins and
minerals directly into the blood stream whilst in addition exerting wastes.
The Australian Red Cross Blood Service (ARCBS) collects around 1.4 million blood donations
each year. Healthy adults aged between the age of sixteen and seventy can donate blood. Donated
blood is normally divided into separate components; this is so that recipients who need blood can
get the most appropriate treatment. Numerous Other donations, made through the Australian Centre
for Blood Diseases, are used for medical research in order to develop new treatments for many
medical conditions, such as blood clots, heart attack, stroke and cancer. (Better Health Channel,

Donation blood approximately takes as little as ten minutes, but an individual is advised to allow
at least an hour for the whole process. During a standard donation, an individual will donate
roughly 470ml of whole blood, which is approximately eight per cent of the average adult s blood
volume. Amazingly the body replaces this volume of blood within twenty four to forty eight hours
and replenishes the red blood cells within four to eight weeks. (Better Health Channel,

Mood Of The Tell Tale Heart
Edgar Allen Poe is a widely known writer from the 1800s. Poe aimed at creating a definite
emotional effect and mood in both poetry and short stories. Poe s goal was to make readers feel
horror of premeditated death and, or profound sadness. Edgar Allen Poe s style is characterized
by his use of sound imagery, irony, repeated elements which he uses to create an emotional effect
for his readers. Poe s style is shown by his use of sound imagery in his short storyThe Tell Tale
Heart. In this short story Poe uses the simile, a low, dull, quick sound, such as a watch makes
when enveloped in cotton, to describe the old man s heartbeat. The emotional effect Poe wants
readers to feel in The Tell Tale Heart is horror of premeditated death. The sound of the old man s

I think that being in clubs, such as CAB, is great for students because it helps undergraduates
gain better social skills, keeps students busy, and teaches them to manage their time. Statistics
show that students who are busy in athletics or clubs often achieve a higher GPA than students
who do not participate in extracurricular activities, so that is another major reason why I chose to
be active in clubs on campus. By becoming active in clubs, students are able to interact with the

The Changing Trends of Tattooing
When one is thinking of American culture and the trends that goes along with it, numerous
individuals will have a lot of different though to that phrase. Just like how America tends to
change over the years, the culture and trends of its people do as well. Things that weren t
popular before are becoming popular and some are even evolving. Even naming your child is like
a new trend in today s society, there is BeyoncГ© and Jay z naming their daughter Blue Ivy Carter
after that there is Kanye West and Kim naming their daughter as well North West . Two years back
you had a mother name her baby Hashtag , which is a twitter symbol. Taking traditional things and
turning them around or even putting a new twist on them helps make a new trend.
Let s take a look at one of the most common but yet constantly evolving trend Tattoo. Tattoo are

The Similarities Between Lucius And The Tale Of Cupid And...
Many historical and mythological accounts of Graeco Roman history in the classical period,
involved tales of magic, worship of the gods, and emphasised the value society placed on devotion
to religion. These societal beliefs and practices became evident in the literature of Greek and Roman
societies, where its use, reach, and consequences was illustrated. In the only surviving Roman novel
of the 2nd century AD, ApuleiusMetamorphoses, readers encounter a Greek nobleman, named
Lucius, whose insatiable curiosity leads him to explore magic. His over enthusiasm to intimately
experience and learn about magic, accidentally causes his transformation into an ass, causing him to
be subjected to a range of vulgar, exploitive, and lustful debaucheries on his path to become human
again.
This essay will explore how Lucius s insatiable curiosity and thirst for forbidden knowledge causes
him to become a victim of magic, and how religion delivers him from its dangerous realms. Finally,
this essay will comment on the contested approaches to interpreting the final book of the novel.

Decriminalization of Marijuana
There has been talk about the decriminalization of marijuana for many years, and it is a very
controversial subject. The Liberal government stated in its platform that it intended to
decriminalize marijuana if elected and since being elected, they have promised to decriminalize
it by April 2017. A 2012 poll by Angus Reid showed that 57% of Canadians are in favor of
legalizing marijuana (MacLean s 2013). Many people believe that even if it is not decriminalized,
there should be less harsh penalties to those who are caught with it. There are many reasons
marijuana should be decriminalized such as the many health ... Show more content on

Interview And The Field Experience
The interview and the field experience occurred on the same day of October 28th, 2016 at 6 pm.
We started with the interview and the meditation followed. During the interview process I sat in a
dark room with Michelle and another licensed witch and her avowed costumer David. We started
the process with explaining childhood religion based experiences. When I asked both Michelle and
David what religion they grew up in they both stated they grew up Southern Baptistand converted at
an early age. Michelle recalled a story where she believes she was in Sunday school and
immediately felt as though she was reincarnated and did not belong in the southern baptist
religion. However, David grew up feeling that everything that Southern Baptist believed was
wrong or false according to his own set of beliefs. It should also be noted that David is a
Homosexual male, he described growing up in a strict Southern Baptist household as complete hell
and escaping felt like freedom.
We went on to discuss the media and the open mindedness of my generation. I came into Sojourner
thinking I was going to experience crystal balls and a old woman with long white hair, telling me
my future, I was totally wrong. Ironically, Michelle stated that misinterpretations and stereotypes
rarely happen anymore. Being surrounded by college students people are more open minded,
stereotypes come from older people and they reference the media. We continued to sit and discuss
different movies and shows that

The Taliban And Al Qaeda
The events of 9/11 have brought the topic of Islamic Terrorism to the forefront of western media
and diplomatic conversation. It has marked and highlighted the rise in the number of the
organizations who use terrorism as a tool to achieve religious or political goals. The actions and
strategies of these groups have intensified and become increasingly global. It has become somewhat
common practice to generalize these groups, their objectives and their strategies. The Talibanand Al
Qaeda are some the two most outspoken groups and many assume their characteristics to be similar.

These schools were used to further the organization s desired objectives.
Although the Taliban s territory is distinctly Afghanistan, their Pakistani foundation resonates
throughout much of their history and structure as an international support and through their ties
with the Al Qaeda. Their Afghan origins and influence began in 1994 in Southern Afghanistan
following the Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan as a counter to the pro communist government.
From their onset in Southern Afghanistan, the Taliban acquired a great deal of power and influence.
Through armed force and following the ousting of the pro communist President Mohammad
Najibullah by the Mujahedeen forces, the Taliban successfully took Kabul in 1996. Their political
success manifested in them forming a government from September 1996 to December 2001. They
maintained this control and power, despite international condemnation on human rights grounds. In
fact, by 1998 they controlled around 90% of Afghanistan (Yung, 2007). However, their influence
was not enough to capture the north western part of Afghanistan, which remained in the hands of
the Northern Alliance. The Taliban enjoyed a great rise of power in the early stages of the
organization and throughout this decade of control their structures and objectives evolved with
some success. Around the early 2000s and the attacks of September

The Scope Of Nursing Practice
Multistate Licensure The scope of nursing practice is regulated and outlined by the State Board of
Nursing for each state. While every eligible student takes the same National Council Licensure
Exam (NCLEX), minimum education requirements and eligibility may differ state to state (Potter,
Perry, 2013). Since nurses must have a license for each state practiced in, this becomes complicated
for those working near state borders, occupational nurses for companies operating in multiple states,
and traveling nurses. Obtaining and upholding individual state licenses can become burdensome
and expensive. To circumvent this issue, the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) came into fruition to
allow nurses to practice in participating states while only... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The NLC provides a mutual recognition model of nurse licensure that allows a nurse to have one
license... and to practice in other states... subject to each state s practice law and regulation
(Litchfield, 2010, p.1). In order to have a multistate license a nurse must have primary residence in
an NLC participating state, have licensure as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse
/Vocational Nurse in good standing, and meet all the states requirements of licensing (NCSBN,
n.d.a). When practicing in states other than the nurse s primary residence, even though it may be a

means that the nurse must know and adhere to each individual states Nurse Practice Act (NPA) to

Expectations Great Expectations
The Victorian era was an era of social change; the idea that one is not predestined to the social
class one was born into became an ideology for the lower classes (House 575). Becoming a
gentleman was the goal. The fascination of being a gentleman did not escape Dickens who came
to age when the gentleman allure was most prominent (Gilmour 577). As much as he was effected
by the abstract notion of how middle and lower middle classes perceived gentlemen, he also noticed
his surrounding s moral values changing (House 573). Being a gentleman in Victorian Britain
meant valuing rank over humanity, and the story of Pip s rise to fortune in Great Expectations
mirrors those values. While simultaneously expressing the reservations Dickens had to these social
values. Dickens was in many ways a writer for and, probably most importantly, about the people.

order to stop being common (Dickens 71) he needs to have money and even believes that Miss

(133). Secondly, one needed to have the general appearance of a gentleman which meant proper
attire, manner and articulation. When Pip comes into handsome property he is advised by Mr.
Jaggers to improve his attire before arriving in London to better suit the look of a gentleman and
to not have working clothes (141). Thirdly, being a gentleman meant moving in the right circles.
Pip needed to move to London in order to achieve his gentlemanly status and thus had to give up
his position working alongside Joe. Lastly, education seemed vital, as after Pip s visit to the Satis

If you do not have the ability to have interpersonal skills then you will struggle to express any
feelings or emotions with people as well as empathize with various situations.
If you are working in an environment where you are required to interact with colleagues and
customers on a daily basis, then you need to have good interpersonal skills. This is especially
important with customers because you have to show them that you have a friendly nature and can
understand their frustrations if they re experiencing a problem or making a request. It is also a
good skill to have when you are speaking with your colleagues because if you come across as cold
and uninterested then you may receive negative feedback.
Research s Contribution
Communication skill is required in order to make the communication runs smoothly. Unfortunately,
not everyone has communication skills. Many people who communicate only rely on their daily
communication style. They consider ways of communication that they use is correct. Sadly, if we
observe the process of the communication, there are still a lot of mistakes in communicating. This
research is expected to be useful to students of TANRI ABENG UNIVERSITY that own startup
business as a guidance to: build harmony relationship with customers, investors or venture
capitalists, and among partners.

The Juvenile Justice System And Juveniles
When it comes to discussing the criminal justice system and juveniles, there have been many
landmark cases that have made a significant impact on the juvenile justice system. The cases
arise from dealing with certain aspects that comes from handling juveniles entering the system.
Since juveniles are very different from adults they have to deal with them a certain way and a
case by case basis. The court cases concerning juveniles and the decisions that have come from
them is what has made what the juvenile justice system is today. Juveniles are not treated the
same as adults since juveniles are not ad developed as adults common sense wise. They don t
always know what is right from wrong and sometimes they do not have guidance or good
influences around them helping them in the right direction. In class we have learned that instead of
punishing them, the goal of the juvenile justice system is based on rehabilitation. For instance,
juveniles cannot be sentenced to death if under the age of 18 and also can not be given the
sentences of life without parole because they consider these punishments cruel and unusual for
juveniles. If the system is able to rehabilitate them and give them the tools they need, they have a
second chance at changing their lives for the better and getting away from all of the crimes. They
rather try to send them to programs or to complete community service to better themselves instead
of giving them hard time. The court cases that I will discuss is what

Examples Of Absurdism In The Birthday Party By Harold Pinter
Harold Pinter is one of the most prominent living dramatists of the age. The seventy three year old
Pinter, who has written twenty nine plays and twenty one screen plays and who has directed twenty
seven theater productions, is one of the early practitioners of the Theater of the Absurd which
started in the fifties. Absurd, which is one of the many different aspects of his works, functions as a
means of getting into the reality that is Pinter s main concern.
Harold Pinter belongs to the group of the twentieth century absurdist playwrights who came to
become known as the innovators of an Avant garde style in their playwritings by breaking away
from the old concepts of morality, religion and sentimentality. The post world war playwrights and
writers such as Beckett, Eugene Ionesco, Genet, Adamov and T. S. Eliot became well aware of the
social, political and economic tribulations that jeopardized the existence of modern man. The utter
helplessness of man and his futile efforts to escape resulted in the emergence of the theories of
absurdism and existentialism, and there was a shift in the definition of what was considered the
real and the unreal. Harold Pinter s play The Birthday Party explicates the sense of absurdity of
human life trapped in a claustrophobic atmosphere. The theme of absurdism in Pinter s The
birthday Party consists in the playwright s implication that there is no logical progression of the plot.

The Literary Canon
I feel that familiarity with the works of the literary canon is only one of many ways that people
can improve their reading and writing skills. Reading is easy, understanding what you read is
where the challenge comes in. Some of the canonized books, such as the Bible, Shakespeare
stories, Sun Tzu; The Art of War, can be very difficult to comprehend especially for people of
younger ages. The whole point of reading is to comprehend and put into perspective whatever you
read. There are some books, poetry and other types of reading material that are straight forward
with the message that it s intended to convey. Then there are others that can leave you pretty
perplexed as to the meaning behind the passage. Take, for example the Bible: several

Suffering In Oedipus The King And Antigone
With Fate Comes Suffering
Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with
scars. (Gibran, Khalil) Khalil Gibran, a famous Lebanese American artist, poet, and writer once
spoke a quote which relates to two Greek tragedies, Oedipus the King and Antigone. The quote
analyzes the tragic characters in each play because they must endure pain before, during, and after
their downfalls in order to grow. In Oedipus the King, written in 430 B.C, Oedipus has been
named the king of Thebes, which is suffering from a plague. He later finds out that he killed his
own father and married his mother named Jocasta whom he had four children with. In Antigone,
which focuses on a teenage girl of the same name, her uncle, ... Show more content on

A major misunderstanding is, Ismene also takes the blame for the burial of their brother
Polynices. Ismene confesses, I did it yes / if only she consents I share the guilt, / the
consequences too. (Sophocles, 604 606) This is a misunderstanding because we see Ismene
confessing, and Antigone does not want her to die and take blame for a deed that she did not
take part in. We see this throughout the play that Ismene has strong family ties, but is not gutsy
enough to take part in anything against human law. This also exhibits that Ismene s loyalty only
goes so far and is meant to teach the audience to think before you act and stay true to your
beliefs. This quote also relates to the role of women in society, how they were meant to stay quiet
and not defy men. Antigone goes against this idea because she buries Polynices disregarding the
fact that Creon placed a human law against it. Sophocles intended to teach the audience that
women were starting to become freer and wanted to make their own decisions, as well as, that it
was not uncommon to support your family even if it meant dying for a cause that you believed in.
Even if Ismene was not in agreement with the actions of Antigone, she still wanted to help and
stick up for the rights of women, by defying their uncle. Humanity has come a long way since the
early motives of women s freedom. From obtaining the right to vote in public

A Simple Quilt In Everyday Use By Alice Walker
How could a simple quilt ruin the relationship with anyone family? You will not understand. The
point is these quilts, these quilts! (Walker 321). Characterization relates to the characters
personality and appearance. Maggie and Dee both wanted the quilt that their grandmother made.
Maggie is the youngest of her sister Dee. Mama gave the quilt to Dee and Maggie was upset. Alice
Walker is the author of this story Everyday Use . Maggie is the youngest of her sister Dee. She is
shy and passive. Maggie is ashamed of herself. She has burn scars down her arms and legs, she is
thin and dark, and her hair is not that nice: Maggie will be nervous until after her sister goes: she
will stand hopelessly in corners homely and ashamed of the burn scars... Show more content on

She is outgoing and determined to make something out of herself. Dee is lighter than her sister
Maggie, and she has a nice figure, and fuller hair. She is smarter than Maggie. But, Dee knows
the least about her heritage. Dee always want nice things: A yellow organdy dress to wear to her
graduation from high school; black pumps to match a green suit she d made from an old suit
somebody gave me (Walker 316). Dee judges Maggie because of her burned scars: Sometimes I
can still here the flames and feel Maggie s arms sticking to me, her hair smoking and her dress
falling off her in little black papery flakes. (Walker 316). Mama is a large big boned woman with
rough, man working hands. She wears flannel night gowns to bed and overalls during the day.
Mama is like Dee and Maggie, mother, and father. Mama treats Maggie different from Dee. She
treats Dee like she is the youngest. They all look at Maggie different because she is a little slow.
But, Maggie knows the most. Mama spoils Dee and she also get Dee whatever she wants.
Overall the story Everyday Use is based off who know the most about their heritage. The quilt is
the problem in the story. Both Maggie and Dee wanted the quilt. Maggie is ashamed of herself
because of her skin. Dee is the one who think she is on top of the world. Mama tries to keep both
of her kids happy, but it does not work out in the

Chronic Renal Failure Research Paper
Acute renal failure occurs when your kidneys suddenly become unable to filter waste products
from your blood. As a result, dangerous levels of wastes may accumulate and your blood s
chemical makeup may get out of balance. It is usually caused by an event that leads to kidney
malfunction such as dehydration, blood loss from a major surgery or injury, or the use of certain
medications. Symptoms of decreased kidneyfunction, such as fluid buildup or electrolyte imbalance
are more likely to develop with acute renal failure, regardless of how long the kidney itself has been
malfunctioning. The signs and symptoms present may reflect the actual cause of the kidney
problem. For instance, an obstruction in the urinary tract may cause flank pain, blood... Show more

Your kidneys filter wastes and excess fluids from your blood, which are then excreted in your
urine. Initially, there may not be very many signs or symptoms present. As a result, chronic renal
failure may not become apparent until kidney function is significantly impaired. It is not
uncommon for signs and symptoms to develop over time if kidney damage progresses slowly.
With that being said, signs and symptoms of renal failure are often nonspecific and can be caused
by other illnesses. Chronic renal failure usually occurs when a disease or condition impairs kidney
function such as diabetes or hypertension, which causes kidney damage to worsen over several
months or years. Unfortunately, this can potentially lead to other problems including anemia and
increased levels of phosphate in the blood. There are several different forms of treatment for
chronic renal failure, consisting mostly of medications. These medications are used to treat the
following: high blood pressure, lower cholesterol levels, anemia, relieve swelling and protection
of bones. In addition, a lower protein diet may be recommended to minimize waste products in
your blood. If your kidneys are unable to maintain waste and fluid clearance on their own,
however, dialysis and or a kidney transplant may be

Essay Feminism and the Shakespeare s Works
Feminism and the Shakespeare s Works
By examining Shakespeare s treatment of familial ties in his plays The Life and Death of King
John and The Winter s Tale, we can see how his attitudes and opinions towards family relationships
evolved. In King John (written between 1594 and 1596), Shakespeare adopts what was then a fairly
conventional attitude towards family relationships: his characters never question the highly
patriarchal family hierarchy. They also assume that the majority of wives will be unfaithful, simply
because they are female however, they take the charge of adultery rather lightly. By contrast, in
The Winter s Tale (written between 1610 and 1611), he adopts a much more progressive, feminist
view of family ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their conversation disturbingly resembles a sinner s confession to her priest. She tells Robert,
Heaven lay not my transgression to my charge! (1.1.256). He replies by assuring her, And they
shall say, when Richard me begot,/ If thou hadst said him nay, it had been sin./ Who says it was,
he lies; I say twas not (1.1.274 76). This obviously highlights the power differential between the
Lady and her son.
The most vivid example of King John s patriarchalism is found in the character of John s niece
Blanche. Her entire life rests on the men in it, namely, King John and Lewis the Dauphin. King
John marries her to the Dauphin, because, as Eleanor advises him, For by this knot thou shalt so
surely tie
Thy now unsured assurance to the crown
That yon green boy shall have no sun to ripe
The bloom that promiseth a mighty fruit (2.1.471 474).
After Blanche s marriage, Lewis uses her claim to the throne as the fault was hers / Which fault
lies on the hazards of all husbands/ That marry wives (1.1.118 20). No one contradicts either of
them. Additionally, when Constance and Queen Eleanor begin to argue, they accuse each other of
infidelity and call each other s sons bastards. All of this shows that in King John, women were
assumed to be less faithful than men.
Despite the fact that wives adultery undermines the entire family structure by calling a man s heir s
legitimacy into doubt,

The Future Of DNA Forensics
Forensics science has had a huge impact on today s legal system making it much easier to
identify and put away criminals. Before being able to identify people by their DNA the court
heavily relied on eyewitness accounts. This was not always the best option seeing that these
accounts were not always accurate. Now however forensics are able to find out someone s
identity through something as simple as a hair follicle. With this new technology not only is it
easier prove someone s guilt, it is also easier to prove one s innocence. For example, Kirk
Bloodsworth was sentenced two life sentences in prison for murder and sexual assault, and after
spending 9 years in prison was exonerated by DNAfound at the crimescene proving his innocence.

Thanks to the database it is now simple to identify someone by what they left behind at the
crime scene. In 100 years however how much more could DNA forensics improve? With this
technology crime rates are sure to go down a and protecting citizens will become a much easier
task for law enforcement. Though today there is the drawback of someone committing a crime
and not being in the DNA database this could possibly be fixed in the future. What if through
DNA found at the crime scene we were able to discover physical characteristic of the culprit
through DNA. If this were possible the police would be able to have a physical description of the
criminal even if they are not in the database. Another advancement that could be made in the future
is the joining of separate databases. If databases from other countries were to join together it would
make it much easier to find criminals who have escaped to different

Case Study On Anadarko Petroleum Corporation
Anadarko Petroleum Corporation
Continued downturn in the oil and natural gas prices in the past year had significant impact on
Anadarko Petroleum Corporation (NYSE: APC), with its shares losing over 63% of their market
value. However, the recent uptick in the crude oil prices helped the company to recapture
approximately 45% of the lost value for its shares. Although, its shares are down nearly 8% since
year to date, but its influential steps of late should allow the company to stay competitive during
this extended low oil prices and drive its growth in the long term.
These stepladders include increasing higher margin oil sales and volumes, further reduction in
operating and capital costs, monetization of non core asset sales, dividend cut and enhancing
efficiencies across the operation. Let us have a look. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most important part of this asset monetization is that it expects to realize about $1.3 billion in
the first half of 2016, as shown in the chart below. As observed in the chart above, this strong cash
will not only allow the company to reduce its net debt but to make further investments in the
higher margin oil fields such as Ghana and Algeria as stated above. Its net debt stood at $14.8
billion at the end of the fourth quarter of 2015.
Conclusion
Anadarko Petroleum is successfully navigating in a volatile environment through its strategic
steps that should allow the company to remain competitive going forward. In fact, its move such
as increasing higher margin oil and sales will improve its top line performance, while steps like
reducing well costs at already economical oil fields such as Delaware and DJ Basin will enable
the company to display a better bottom line numbers in 2016. Thus, Anadarko remains a good oil
stock in the long run with the growth in the oil and natural gas

Eric Foner Epilogue Summary
Eric Foner s epilogue discusses the effects of reconstruction during, as well as after it occured. He
highlights many different main points as he weaves his way through the piece. One of these points
is the issue of race that sprung up during reconstruction. The South felt that the black s place was in
the fields while the North gave them the right to vote and made them a free man. This is discussed
through different accounts between some white men and some black men. The black men tell of
the time when their ancestors worked in government and were as equal as everyone else. The
southern whites speak of the North doing a horrible thing by letting the whites let the African
Americans have suffrage. The northern whites stand by their decision to give the blacks suffrage....

One of those is the blacks moving out west. When they went west things changed for them. They
experienced freedoms that they have never experienced before. Some of these freedoms were more
physical such as the blacks owning farms and to be whatever they wanted. Another section of these
freedoms was the freedom of getting away from the still racist South. ERic Foner talks about the
racist south in his epilogue. Continuing on with racism still prevalent in the South, the forming of
white supremacy organizations is another thing that connects this reading and our class
discussions. The KKK became very prominent during reconstruction and denied blacks some of
their freedoms that were given to them after the civil war ended. Another thing that connects his
epilogue to what we talk about in class is the blacks coming into politics during reconstruction.
More blacks came into politics after the civil war ended, even though many southeners disagreed
with it. After the fall of reconstruction, white southeners had a role in changing the role of blacks in
politics by progressive legislation to change the racial matters in the

The Effects Of Climate Change On Canada s Agriculture
Climate Change will positively impact Canada s Agriculture Thesis: Climate change will negatively
impact Canada s Agriculture due to heavy rainfall, droughts, irrigation problems, pesticide issues
and not enough nutrients available? Intro
Agriculture is highly dependent upon weather and climate in order to produce the food necessary to
sustain human life. North America is the world s largest and most productive supplier of food
and fiber (3). Canada is the second largest country in the world however it only contains five
percent of land that is suitable for farming (7). This small farming area is divided in two
different zones. The first zone is the great Prairies located in Alberta, Saskatchewan and
Manitoba and the mixed Wood Plains of the St. Lawrence River and the second zone is the Great
Lakes regions (7). Approximately 80% of Canada s major farming is done the Prairies (7). There
have been several recent studies that indicate most regions of Canada to warm up during the next
60 years (3). The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in 2007 projected that global
average temperature to increase by 1.5 to 4.5 degrees Celsius (3). Ironically, this would be the
largest increase in global mean temperature in the last 10, 000 years (3). According to the
comprehensive Canada Country Study (CCS) all the Global Climate Model (GCM) indicates
Canada will be impacted with the most warming (7). The impacts of this climate change will be
greatly reflected on the

Ministry Burnout
A Description and Scope of the Issue of Ministry Burnout
The Scope of the Issue of Burnout Ministry burnout is a problem for the minister who is burned
out, the family of the minister, and the churches they serve. Adding to the problem is, There are
still many in the churches who refuse to recognize that there is a problem with what is today called
clergy burnout (Randall, 2013, p. 334). When a church will not acknowledge there is a potential
problem, the minister will be left to deal with the shame and pain of suffering burnout. Burnout is a
psychological condition that results from chronic stress related to working with people (Milner,
2007, p. 9). The statistics are alarming. Christian Ministers are leaving the ministry in droves.
According to statistics gathered by J.R. Briggs, 1,500 pastors leave the ministry for good each
month because of burnout or conflict in the church they serve (cited in Briggs, 2014). According
to the data gathered by Brigg (2014), that means that over 18,000 pastors leave the ministry each
year because of burnout and conflict. Briggs (2014) also found that 80 percent of pastors and 84
percent of pastors spouses are discouraged in their roles. Statistics further reveal that for every 20
pastors who go into ministry, only one retires from ministry (cited in Briggs, 2014). To further

job, and this failure to cope can be manifested in a number of ways, including low morale, impaired

in the one suffering from burnout going from church to church in hopes a new beginning, when on

  • 2. Foamed Polystyrene Research Paper Pollution has become an emerging issue in our contemporary society. The awful smell reeks of filth as it wraps itself around my body like the second skin. The particles invade my lungs and sting my eyes even if I squint into the city streets at Wichita downtown. They call it smog, but truly it is a chemical soup that can only shorten our lives and exacerbate health issues. Whenever this happens, some walk in face masks, others hide in homes with air filtration, but most of us can afford neither. We take food where we can get it and sleep fitfully amidst our own coughing. The old tale of a time when the air was so clean that trees and blossoms had a fragrance and the sky was blue like it is in the VR games advertised from all the electronic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bacteria, fungi and other decomposers cannot break down these substances because of their chemical composition. Styrofoam, also known as foamed polystyrene, is a non biodegradable substance that can cause environmental problems when it becomes litter. For instance, styrene, a neurotoxin at high doses, can leach out of polystyrene materials when temperatures climb and this can be detrimental. Sadly, the only places we now call clean are our homes: some of our lawns are also pristine. We feel that the pollutants are within the dome as the rest of our local community is a barren wasteland, home only to the chemical pollutants we expel from our bubble. However, life carries on much like it always did, only the television has less news to report about this issue. The dome is blue to mimic the way the sky used to look, the energy pumped in from solar panels above the smog layer. They say the oceans are dead: all life extinct, but we should plunge in and save our local lakes and rivers from this tragedy by skimming off the plastics from the surface. Our breathable air is now courtesy of the scientists rather than the trees. We had all the advantages, all the ability to live in a pristine state and county of rich natural beauty, but we squandered it chasing material wealth. All this can be changed through a united ... • 3. Legal Ramifications For A Company Introduction In a company there are 3 ways to generate capital, which can be generated internally through the sales of assets or from profitable operations. Another was is from the issues of shares to potential investors who are willing to contribute to the company and lastly borrowing from creditors. This report is looking into legal ramifications for a company deciding to finance it activities through equity (share capital) or debt (loan capital). Companies Act 1993 in relation to Shareholders Companies Act 1993 section 84 requires every company to have at least one shareholder and at least one share . A common liability to shareholders is that they have an obligation to pay the amount that is being owed in his or her shares if the company goes into liquidation. This liability is for the shareholder of the current and the prior shareholder. In Section 96 of the Companies Act 1993 it states that a shareholder is a person s name who is entered in the company s share register as being the holder at that time of one or more shares in the company and section 51 states that shares are considered issued once the holders name if entered in to the share register. Tryrion Holdings Ltd v Claydon states in order to be a shareholder, the holder needs to be registered into the share register. In this case Tyrion is not listed in the shareholder as there was no share register known and any direct evidence of a share register existing. Neich v Roseka Ltd states that according to ... British Petroleum s leased offshore drilling rig exploded on this day. The Deepwater Horizon caused the largest accidental marine oil spill ever (Crandall, Parnell and Spillan, 2013). The ruptured oil well leaked nearly 5 million barrels of oil into the sea over a three month period of time. The devastation killed eleven men. 17 others were severely injured. The devastation reached marine wildlife and some 5 years later, that group is still feeling the after affects. Cross Country Persuasive Speech Ready, set, bang, the starter gun goes off, thousands of people cheer, hundreds of runners on your left and right, and the only thing you re focus on is crossing the finish line. Your heart is pounding, your stomach twists around itself, and the lactic acid builds in your legs to a point where all you can focus on is the pain that each step takes. But this is Cross Country. Outlasting the pain is part of the sport and if you hadn t known that from the start you wouldn t have joined right? And you wouldn t have stayed all four years either. Examples Of Summarize Findings Summarize Findings The most reactive substance in this lab was the crushed liver core, it produced the most amount of heat, bubbles, and the biggest flame during the glowing splint test. The manganese dioxide and the liver core were also very reactive and they both produced a flame during the glowing splint test. Next, the potato core produced a slight reaction, but it was not as extreme as the other substances. Finally, just the hydrogen peroxide and the boiled liver core had no reaction and did not produce a flameduring the glowing splint test. It would change the pH of the liver or potato as HCl is very acidic and NaOH is very basic. Changes in pH can denature the protein in the enzymes which could result in no reaction. For most enzymes, they require a very specific pH, so when a solution becomes too acidic or too basic, no reaction can occur as the enzyme will become denatured by the abrupt change in pH. 6. What effect would slightly cooling or heating the test tube have? Slightly cooling or heating the test tube could also result in the proteins in the enzymes becoming denatured by the changes in the temperature. Enzymes also require very specific temperatures to function properly, so if the temperature changed too dramatically no reaction would occur. If the change in temperature was not dramatic, it could just affect the rate of reaction, so it might slow down the reaction, but the reaction would eventually occur. 7. This quality of management includes consideration for other people s privacy, their physical space and belongings. In the same light it also includes respecting different viewpoints, philosophies, physical ability, beliefs and personality. Regardless of the quality or standard of work of the employee, respect still has to be shown and the corrective procedures should be followed where need be but negative criticism should definitely not be tolerated. • 9. The Electoral College Is The Best Interests Of All The People The Electoral College has long been controversial, and is subject to both criticism and defense. To understand why either side is valid we must look at its values and its weaknesses, its pros and cons. The Electoral College was devised to proportionally dole out the power of selecting our executives geographically. In doing so the Electoral Collegegives otherwise marginalized portions of the U.S. population a voice. Adversely the Electoral College can be seen as an obstruction to democracyand the will of the people. Whether or not the Electoral College serves the best interests of all the people in United States is up to debate. This paper functions to reveal what validities either argument may include. The Electoral College was founded on the idea that no entity, federal or popular, should have the power to singularly determine the outcome of electing our country s executive. Founding father James Madison writes in the Federalist papers about his concern regarding tyrannical factions that arise in pure democracies. Madison in Federalist Paper No. 10, recognizes a faction as ...a number of citizens, whether amounting to a majority or a minority of the whole, who are united and actuated by some common impulse of passion, or of interest, adversed to the rights of other citizens, or to the permanent and aggregate interests of the community. In American people make the assumption that immigrants are here to hurt America instead of improving America. In reality there is only a small group of immigrants that hurt America. People need to separate the groups to realize that there are immigrants who help America and that they should be allowed to stay in America under certain circumstances. Secondly, Immigrants that contribute to the American society often pay taxes and learn to speak the English language often work but are not treated equally as Native Americans are. They provide a point of analysis and comparison, allow countries to form long term patterns and trends and can help to develop and reform criminal justice policies as well as being more meaningful than raw numbers. Using the countries of Bahrain and the United States as a comparison point for the following issues which surround crimestatistics such as biases, agendas and general influences like education and religion; this essay will be focused around analysing the statistical factors and wider influences which can allow a country to have low or high crime rates. So for any kind of comparison of crime rates to work at all, it is crucial that the definitions of crimes and the categories they are placed in are similar. The next issue with definitions is that even the different organizations that compile crime statistics differ within their own definitions. INTERPOL for example defines murder as: Any act performed with the purpose of taking human life, excluding abortion but including infanticide (and including attempts).(Kalish, 1988) While the World Health Organization (WHO) does not distinguish between intentional or unintentional homicides but does not include attempts under this organization attempts fall under a separate legal distinction(Kalish, 1988). And again, the United Nations have a different definition for homicide: Death purposely inflicted by another person, including infanticide. (Kalish, 1988) Due to major issues with the above topics across all countries, due to definitional and categorical differences, crime statistics can differ significantly. In Bahrain, crimes against the individual are ranked in relation to the seriousness of the offence, murder, attempted murder, murder by error, assault, threatening and others. In the United States, offences are not classed separately, but into broad categories which are homicides, robberies and assaults. Emily mentioned that she worked with the second grade class at church and always enjoyed her time with this age group. She wonders if this interest might be something she should pursue. As Emily s academic advisor, I suggested some helpful steps she should take that would assist her in making these important decisions. Assessments One of the first steps in helping a student who is undecided about their degree is to suggest useful assessments. Career and personality assessments are beneficial in several ways. They can help provide insight into personality traits, skills, and interests of a student. The results in turn can help students make connections between these traits and careers that they are well suited for. There are two tools in particular that I find beneficial. Why Marches Aren T What They Used To Be Summary In Why Marches Aren t What They Used to Be , David Leonhardt ineffectually argues that the use of mass marches as a method of protesting political issues are not necessarily a sign of an actual movement and not as effective as they were pre internet. Leonhardt s argument is heavily loaded with quotations from other authors and lacks clarity on some of his points. Even without fully defending his position following the quotations or completely explaining some points of his argument, his strategy will likely open readers up to further discussion and research. Leonhardt opens the article by introducing two authors, one of which he does not reference to again throughout his writing. He states that David Brook s critique of the Women s March generated a lot of discussion among Times readers which is a great introductory statement but proved to be irrelevant to the article because he does not reference back to Brook s critique anywhere in his writing. Poe s style is shown by his use of sound imagery in his short storyThe Tell Tale Heart. In this short story Poe uses the simile, a low, dull, quick sound, such as a watch makes when enveloped in cotton, to describe the old man s heartbeat. Statistics show that students who are busy in athletics or clubs often achieve a higher GPA than students who do not participate in extracurricular activities, so that is another major reason why I chose to be active in clubs on campus. By becoming active in clubs, students are able to interact with the Simpson community and possibly go out of their comfort zone by experiencing new things. Many historical and mythological accounts of Graeco Roman history in the classical period, involved tales of magic, worship of the gods, and emphasised the value society placed on devotion to religion. These societal beliefs and practices became evident in the literature of Greek and Roman societies, where its use, reach, and consequences was illustrated. In the only surviving Roman novel of the 2nd century AD, ApuleiusMetamorphoses, readers encounter a Greek nobleman, named Lucius, whose insatiable curiosity leads him to explore magic. His over enthusiasm to intimately experience and learn about magic, accidentally causes his transformation into an ass, causing him to be subjected to a range of vulgar, exploitive, and lustful debaucheries on his path to become human again. This essay will explore how Lucius s insatiable curiosity and thirst for forbidden knowledge causes him to become a victim of magic, and how religion delivers him from its dangerous realms. Finally, this essay will comment on the contested approaches to interpreting the final book of the novel. As much as he was effected by the abstract notion of how middle and lower middle classes perceived gentlemen, he also noticed his surrounding s moral values changing (House 573). Since juveniles are very different from adults they have to deal with them a certain way and a case by case basis. The court cases concerning juveniles and the decisions that have come from them is what has made what the juvenile justice system is today. Juveniles are not treated the same as adults since juveniles are not ad developed as adults common sense wise. They don t always know what is right from wrong and sometimes they do not have guidance or good influences around them helping them in the right direction. In class we have learned that instead of punishing them, the goal of the juvenile justice system is based on rehabilitation. For instance, juveniles cannot be sentenced to death if under the age of 18 and also can not be given the sentences of life without parole because they consider these punishments cruel and unusual for juveniles. The seventy three year old Pinter, who has written twenty nine plays and twenty one screen plays and who has directed twenty seven theater productions, is one of the early practitioners of the Theater of the Absurd which started in the fifties. Absurd, which is one of the many different aspects of his works, functions as a means of getting into the reality that is Pinter s main concern. Harold Pinter belongs to the group of the twentieth century absurdist playwrights who came to become known as the innovators of an Avant garde style in their playwritings by breaking away from the old concepts of morality, religion and sentimentality. The post world war playwrights and writers such as Beckett, Eugene Ionesco, Genet, Adamov and T. S. Eliot became well aware of the social, political and economic tribulations that jeopardized the existence of modern man. The utter helplessness of man and his futile efforts to escape resulted in the emergence of the theories of absurdism and existentialism, and there was a shift in the definition of what was considered the real and the unreal. Harold Pinter s play The Birthday Party explicates the sense of absurdity of human life trapped in a claustrophobic atmosphere. (Sophocles, 604 606) This is a misunderstanding because we see Ismene confessing, and Antigone does not want her to die and take blame for a deed that she did not take part in. We see this throughout the play that Ismene has strong family ties, but is not gutsy enough to take part in anything against human law. This also exhibits that Ismene s loyalty only goes so far and is meant to teach the audience to think before you act and stay true to your beliefs. This quote also relates to the role of women in society, how they were meant to stay quiet and not defy men. Antigone goes against this idea because she buries Polynices disregarding the fact that Creon placed a human law against it. Sophocles intended to teach the audience that women were starting to become freer and wanted to make their own decisions, as well as, that it was not uncommon to support your family even if it meant dying for a cause that you believed in. Even if Ismene was not in agreement with the actions of Antigone, she still wanted to help and stick up for the rights of women, by defying their uncle. Humanity has come a long way since the early motives of women s freedom. From obtaining the right to vote in public ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Chronic Renal Failure Research Paper Acute renal failure occurs when your kidneys suddenly become unable to filter waste products from your blood. As a result, dangerous levels of wastes may accumulate and your blood s chemical makeup may get out of balance. It is usually caused by an event that leads to kidney malfunction such as dehydration, blood loss from a major surgery or injury, or the use of certain medications. Symptoms of decreased kidneyfunction, such as fluid buildup or electrolyte imbalance are more likely to develop with acute renal failure, regardless of how long the kidney itself has been malfunctioning. The signs and symptoms present may reflect the actual cause of the kidney problem. For instance, an obstruction in the urinary tract may cause flank pain, blood... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Your kidneys filter wastes and excess fluids from your blood, which are then excreted in your urine. Initially, there may not be very many signs or symptoms present. As a result, chronic renal failure may not become apparent until kidney function is significantly impaired. It is not uncommon for signs and symptoms to develop over time if kidney damage progresses slowly. With that being said, signs and symptoms of renal failure are often nonspecific and can be caused by other illnesses. Chronic renal failure usually occurs when a disease or condition impairs kidney function such as diabetes or hypertension, which causes kidney damage to worsen over several months or years. Unfortunately, this can potentially lead to other problems including anemia and increased levels of phosphate in the blood. There are several different forms of treatment for chronic renal failure, consisting mostly of medications. These medications are used to treat the following: high blood pressure, lower cholesterol levels, anemia, relieve swelling and protection of bones. In addition, a lower protein diet may be recommended to minimize waste products in your blood. If your kidneys are unable to maintain waste and fluid clearance on their own, however, dialysis and or a kidney transplant may be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Essay Feminism and the Shakespeare s Works Feminism and the Shakespeare s Works By examining Shakespeare s treatment of familial ties in his plays The Life and Death of King John and The Winter s Tale, we can see how his attitudes and opinions towards family relationships evolved. In King John (written between 1594 and 1596), Shakespeare adopts what was then a fairly conventional attitude towards family relationships: his characters never question the highly patriarchal family hierarchy. They also assume that the majority of wives will be unfaithful, simply because they are female however, they take the charge of adultery rather lightly. By contrast, in The Winter s Tale (written between 1610 and 1611), he adopts a much more progressive, feminist view of family ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Their conversation disturbingly resembles a sinner s confession to her priest. She tells Robert, Heaven lay not my transgression to my charge! (1.1.256). He replies by assuring her, And they shall say, when Richard me begot,/ If thou hadst said him nay, it had been sin./ Who says it was, he lies; I say twas not (1.1.274 76). This obviously highlights the power differential between the Lady and her son. The most vivid example of King John s patriarchalism is found in the character of John s niece Blanche. Her entire life rests on the men in it, namely, King John and Lewis the Dauphin. King John marries her to the Dauphin, because, as Eleanor advises him, For by this knot thou shalt so surely tie Thy now unsured assurance to the crown That yon green boy shall have no sun to ripe The bloom that promiseth a mighty fruit (2.1.471 474). After Blanche s marriage, Lewis uses her claim to the throne as the fault was hers / Which fault lies on the hazards of all husbands/ That marry wives (1.1.118 20). No one contradicts either of them. Additionally, when Constance and Queen Eleanor begin to argue, they accuse each other of infidelity and call each other s sons bastards. All of this shows that in King John, women were assumed to be less faithful than men. Despite the fact that wives adultery undermines the entire family structure by calling a man s heir s legitimacy into doubt, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Future Of DNA Forensics Forensics science has had a huge impact on today s legal system making it much easier to identify and put away criminals. Before being able to identify people by their DNA the court heavily relied on eyewitness accounts. This was not always the best option seeing that these accounts were not always accurate. Now however forensics are able to find out someone s identity through something as simple as a hair follicle. With this new technology not only is it easier prove someone s guilt, it is also easier to prove one s innocence. For example, Kirk Bloodsworth was sentenced two life sentences in prison for murder and sexual assault, and after spending 9 years in prison was exonerated by DNAfound at the crimescene proving his innocence. Though today there is the drawback of someone committing a crime and not being in the DNA database this could possibly be fixed in the future. • 47. Eric Foner Epilogue Summary Eric Foner s epilogue discusses the effects of reconstruction during, as well as after it occured. He highlights many different main points as he weaves his way through the piece. One of these points is the issue of race that sprung up during reconstruction. The South felt that the black s place was in the fields while the North gave them the right to vote and made them a free man. This is discussed through different accounts between some white men and some black men. The black men tell of the time when their ancestors worked in government and were as equal as everyone else. The southern whites speak of the North doing a horrible thing by letting the whites let the African Americans have suffrage. The northern whites stand by their decision to give the blacks suffrage.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of those is the blacks moving out west. When they went west things changed for them. They experienced freedoms that they have never experienced before. Some of these freedoms were more physical such as the blacks owning farms and to be whatever they wanted. Another section of these freedoms was the freedom of getting away from the still racist South. ERic Foner talks about the racist south in his epilogue. Continuing on with racism still prevalent in the South, the forming of white supremacy organizations is another thing that connects this reading and our class discussions. The KKK became very prominent during reconstruction and denied blacks some of their freedoms that were given to them after the civil war ended. Another thing that connects his epilogue to what we talk about in class is the blacks coming into politics during reconstruction. More blacks came into politics after the civil war ended, even though many southeners disagreed with it. After the fall of reconstruction, white southeners had a role in changing the role of blacks in politics by progressive legislation to change the racial matters in the ... The Effects Of Climate Change On Canada s Agriculture Climate Change will positively impact Canada s Agriculture Thesis: Climate change will negatively impact Canada s Agriculture due to heavy rainfall, droughts, irrigation problems, pesticide issues and not enough nutrients available? Intro Agriculture is highly dependent upon weather and climate in order to produce the food necessary to sustain human life. North America is the world s largest and most productive supplier of food and fiber (3). Canada is the second largest country in the world however it only contains five percent of land that is suitable for farming (7). This small farming area is divided in two different zones. The first zone is the great Prairies located in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba and the mixed Wood Plains of the St. Lawrence River and the second zone is the Great Lakes regions (7). Approximately 80% of Canada s major farming is done the Prairies (7). There have been several recent studies that indicate most regions of Canada to warm up during the next 60 years (3). The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in 2007 projected that global average temperature to increase by 1.5 to 4.5 degrees Celsius (3). Ironically, this would be the largest increase in global mean temperature in the last 10, 000 years (3). • 50. Ministry Burnout A Description and Scope of the Issue of Ministry Burnout The Scope of the Issue of Burnout Ministry burnout is a problem for the minister who is burned out, the family of the minister, and the churches they serve. Adding to the problem is, There are still many in the churches who refuse to recognize that there is a problem with what is today called clergy burnout (Randall, 2013, p. 334). When a church will not acknowledge there is a potential problem, the minister will be left to deal with the shame and pain of suffering burnout. Burnout is a psychological condition that results from chronic stress related to working with people (Milner, 2007, p. 9). The statistics are alarming. Christian Ministers are leaving the ministry in droves. According to statistics gathered by J.R. Briggs, 1,500 pastors leave the ministry for good each month because of burnout or conflict in the church they serve (cited in Briggs, 2014). According to the data gathered by Brigg (2014), that means that over 18,000 pastors leave the ministry each year because of burnout and conflict. Briggs (2014) also found that 80 percent of pastors and 84 percent of pastors spouses are discouraged in their roles.
