The Namesake Theme
The foreign domain is a factor that carries the national identity of the people from different places.
The traditions and identities of each character are intertwined in the notion of foreign culture and
ethnic minority culture. The association of the alien characters in the new community demonstrates
a new identity construction. This type of concept of a new life in a new place brings out a foreign
experience that is hard to adapt. In the story Namesake, Ashima migrates from India to America,
but to her everything is weird, and she feels like she cannot fit.
The experiences that the Ganguli family finds in America are entirely foreign especially since they
are living in an entirely new environment. They are an Indian family trying to style in the American
setting. Ashima finds it difficult to settle in a different country and in ... Show more content on

Through Ashima, the reader can relate to the emotions and feel about culture, alienation, and
homesickness of the immigrants (Lahiri, 22). Ashima is traditional and misses her life in
Calcutta and thus finds it difficult to settle down in America. Ashima feels like a foreigner
because she cannot relate to the new culture and does not seem to make friends in school. Her
life as an immigrant gives Ashima a new point of view that her children do not know about
because they were born and bred in America. Ashima does not like that Gogol s choices in
women because they do not follow the Bengali traditions. When her husband dies, she is
confronted with another idea of moving from a place she calls home and to her that is foreign.
(Lahiri, 22) To Ashima, being in a new location that has different traditions is foreign. Moving
back to India, Calcutta, her home is now foreign to her as it is different from her life in America. It
seems like Ashima has made new friends in America but has not completely transformed either, but

Abstract
Biological effects of Methamphetamines Methamphetamines affect the human body in a physical
and neurological and psychological way. The use of meth can lead to devastating effects to the
nervous system for example leaving the user with nervous ticks and body jerks similar to a
person suffering from Parkinson s disease. On a physical level, the user may show skin sores and
tooth decay. Last but the not least, the user may develop psychosis including hallucinations and
paranoia. Not limited to the self destruction a user will suffer, the family and/or loved ones will

By 1919, Japan started producing methamphetamine which was cheaper and more potent than
amphetamine. It was produced in a crystalline powder form and was able it to be dissolved in
water, making it easier for it to be injected. This form of amphetamine is still legally produced in
the US and is being sold under the name of Desoxyn. (Montgomery County Sheriff s Office, 2010,
para. 1 3) The abuse of methamphetamines in the United States seems to have started during the
Great Depression and increased during WWI, WWII, and Viet Nam. Many times, amphetamines
were prescribed by the government and the military to keep fighting soldiers going. After returning
from their tour of duty, many soldiers returned home addicted to the drug. Also during the 50 s and
60 s, amphetamines were being used as a weight loss medication. But eventually began to be abused
by the users. Today, methamphetamines are abused throughout the US. It has spread like wildfire,
starting on the West Coast. Today, meth does not discriminate and will affect every race, culture,
age, and socio economic level. Meth users range from the most prestigious political figures, all star
athletes, famous celebrities, re known musicians, honest business men/women, respectable
housewives/husbands, honor students, to your street drug dealers and junkies. Many truck drivers
and bikers are notorious for abusing meth.

• How Did Independence Political Affect The Creole Class...
Venezuelan Immigration
How did independence politically affect the Creole class in Venezuela?
I.Venezuelan independence split the Creole class into two political factions, liberals, and
conservatives. In addition, independence motivated many Creoles to remove themselves from
politics and pass their power to local caudillos, or soldiers. (Williamson 233 234) (Greene 105 106)
A.During Venezuelan s independence movement, opposing viewpoints of two of the colonies most
influential revolutionary leaders sparked disagreements within the Creole class.

Independence caused many Creole citizens and revolutionary leaders to remove themselves from
politics.
1.The violent independence movements in Venezuela had repelled many Creoles from politics in
general.
a)Discussed or now uninterested in politics, many Creoles returned to their haciendas to continue
their lives as landowners.
b)Lives as landowners, and not politicians, offered Creoles the ability to focus on themselves
without worrying about the needs and wants of a nation.
c)Simon Bolivar, the most famous revolutionary in Venezuela, removed himself from politics a
few years before his death of tuberculosis. He felt the quarreling between Creoles signified that he
had failed as a political leader.
2.Creoles transferred their political power to the caudillos, or the soldiers in Venezuela.
a)Independence ultimately resulted in a loss of political power in the Creole class.
Why did the Indians in Venezuela become more poverty stricken after independence?
I.The Indians of Venezuela became more poverty stricken after independence because of increased
economic demand in the late 1850 s. Therefore, the caste system of the Venezuela was abolished in
order to exploit the Indians more intensely. (Williamson 244 245)

Laura Motes And Animal Welfare
Laura Motes Tells Us the Ways Anyone Can Help Promote Animal Welfare According to former
police officer and animal lover Laura Motes, there are many simple ways that everyday people
can assist with animal welfare and rescue issues. She knows that you don t have to give a ton of
money to a shelter to make a difference. The little things add up to make a big impact. Most of
Laura s tips involve community involvement and education, like scheduling a local animal rescue
speaker to meet with and talk to your local church or business group. She has also found that by
placing a small donation cup on her desk or in the break room of her office, she receives small
donations that add up quickly. She then takes that money to the local rescue leagues in... Show more

The 4 Items You Need to Trail Run with Laura Motes Laura Motes will happily run on any
surface and in any environment, but trail running is one of her favorites. This sport, which
involves running through wilderness trails, is beautifully simple. It does not take much planning
or equipment, and many people find trail running to be the most enjoyable form of running.
According to Motes, there are certain considerations that need to be acknowledged when
preparing for a trail running trip. As the runner will be moving over natural trails and different
terrains, they will not need the same gear or equipment as a person running on a track or on the
roadways. Shoes are a very crucial item for any runner, especially a trail runner. Laura says that
you should wear a pair of true trail shoes. These provide a thicker sole than standard running shoes,
which is ideal for uneven ground and sharp rocks. Clothing is relatively universal between trail
running and road running. The only point Laura likes to make is that you are likely to get dirtier

Trevor Nunn s Oklahoma !
Oklahoma! by Trevor Nunn is a romantic musical that revolves around two characters, Curly
(played by Hugh Jackman) and Laurey (played by Josefina Gabrielle), who are not as expressive
about their love for one another as they should be. The setting of Oklahoma! occurs during the
development of the west in the state of Oklahoma. Furthermore, as the story progresses, both
Curly and Laurey remain distant from one another and try to provoke jealousy, in order to make
the other admit their love. However, both Laurey and Curly indirectly cause harm to many
individuals around, by provoking jealousy. One specific character, Jud (played by Shuler
Hensley), ends up entangled in both Curly and Laurey s mess, since Laurey wishes to make Curly
jealous by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The theme revolves around the idea that if one does not express their true feelings and remain
true to themselves, consequences could ensue that may involve others who had nothing to do
with their issues in the first place. This theme could be derived from the inciting incident, the
rising action and the climax. The inciting incident occurs due to the fact that Laurey chooses Jud
over Curley in order to see how he would react. This example remains true to the theme since
jealousy is the main force driving Laurey to commit to her actions, all the while remaining in
denial of actually liking Jud. Moreover, Curley, being jealous of Jud, decides to pay him a visit
which causes a commotion and a worsens the relationship between the two characters.
Furthermore, this theme is at its peak relevancy when Laurey has her dream sequence. In
Laurey s dream sequence, it is obvious that she has feelings for Curley, however, since she
chooses to remain in denial and pursues the act of making Curley jealous, her dream sequence
takes a turn for the worst. As her [Laurey] dream sequence progresses, she starts having visions
of being raped and begins to see Curley being hurt by Jud, thus show her how her childish acts
have hurt others and herself included. By leading Jud to believe that she has feelings for him,
he begins to develop great feelings for her, therefore, at the climax of the play, Jud returns for
Curley and Laurey s wedding in order to kill Curley, however, it is Jud that dies in the end. The
consequences of Laurey remaining in denial and being jealous, led to her almost being raped and
the death of Jud. One could also argue that it was Jud s jealousy of Curley that led to his

Sick Around The World Has Really Opened My Eyes About The...
The documentary Sick Around the World has really opened my eyes about the United States health
care system. The diversity of health care systems in other countries would make individuals think
that the United States would have thoughts of changing a majority of their policies. The
information given in the documentary was factual and useful to my knowledge. The information
also provides me with ways I could approach my future career in health care, which is
epidemiology. As an epidemiologist, disease would be my main focus point which produces an
impact on individuals. More disease, equals more health care and more expenses. In this paper, I
intend to include details about the documentary, present an analysis of what was shown, and
express my reaction to the video. In this informative documentary, it concentrates on 5 particular
countries and explores ways each country provides healthcare to their citizens. Even though the
policies and regulations are different from the United States, does that necessarily mean their ways
are more beneficial? The author helps to explain and break the concept down for the viewers. For
example the first country the author represented in the video was Great Britain. Here, the
government run Nation Health Care System has all of its citizens covered which means no
medical bill and no one has to file bankruptcy. For a better understanding of how healthcare is paid
for, British citizens pay for health care out of tax revenue. Even though Great

Alamo Research Papers
Have you ever heard about the Alamo? If you have, well it s pretty common because the Alamo
is something well known for what it stood for. If you didn t know the Alamo, it is in San
Antonio and it stood for a very good reason. Let me begin in the Alamo, it was originally built as
the chapel of the Mission San Antonio de Valero. Alike all of the spanish missions it was both a,
religious and industrial trade school for indians. For years it had a couple of huts and a small
stone tower until, it was destroyed by a storm in 1724. Soon the first stone church was constructed
in 1744 and then collapsed in 1756. They started with the second church but it was never finished, it
also still stands in the Alamo Plaza. 37 years later (1793) nothing really happened but, San Antonio
de Valero was still a home to missionaries and their Native American converts until, the spanish
authorities saw the Alamo... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This allowed the defenders to shoot in two different directions. However, William B. Travis
faced serious weaknesses. The surrounding wall was incomplete or partly in ruins. The defenders
in The Alamo made a fence made of sticks and dirt at the uncompleted wall but, this point was
weak. William B. Travis had to defend a huge area of about 460 feet long and 160 feet wide
within the Alamo walls. To defend the Alamo successfully William B. Travis thought he needed
more soldiers because of the large Mexican Army. Despite all these weaknesses Travis and the
other defenders were determined to hold the Alamo. Some help did arrive but it wasn t enough for
defending the Alamo. Colonel James Fannin started to head to San Antonio with 300 men. The
effort collapsed because of the broken wagons and shoeless soldiers, however. Then Colonel James
Fannin returned to Goliad, and William B. Travis s best hope was

Sex And Gender Are Not Equal
Sex and gender are not equal contrary to common assumption. Sex, as defined by Rosman, is the
physical differences between male and female [based on] biological and anatomical composition of
genitals and secondary sexual characteristics (141). On the other hand, gender is defined as the
culture specific set of behavioral, ideological, and social meanings constructed around the
understandings of these biological and anatomical differences (142). So what does this mean?
Indeed, the assumption of sexequating to genderis not necessarily true because gender is culturally
constructed. Different societies often have different perceptions of what gender is: for instance
North American heteronormative culture in comparison with the gender relationships of people in
Wogeo (minimal differences between men and women) or of the people in Samoa specifically
focusing on the fa afafine.
The film, Paradise Bent, directed by Heather Croall explores part of the world of fa afafines. The fa
afafine of Samoa are their own gender defying the gender binaries of strictly male or female. The
word itself means in the manner of a woman and according to the film, fa afafines are men
playing women s roles yet they are largely accepted by their communities. Mothers of fa afafines
value and love their fa afafine son and appreciate their help around the house. Chief Leutele voices
that he does not like fa afafines acting to fa afafine by wearing skirts and painting their face and

The Problem Of Illegal Immigrants
Donald Trump wrongly says the number of illegal immigrants is 30 million or higher Donald
Trump made several claims recently that the population of illegal immigrants in the U.S. has risen
to thirty million or more. He claimed that the government had no grasp on the population of
illegal immigrants, and that he s seen those estimates in several papers and other sources. The
Department of Homeland Security disagreed, saying that their calculations of illegal immigrants
took a lot of factors into account. Even with a plus or minus one million margin, there was no
way possible for the number of illegal immigrants to have tripled without them knowing. Several
other major research organizations agreed, saying they also came up with estimates very close to
the eleven million estimate given. No one is really sure where exactly Trump got these outrageous
and wildly inaccurate claims, but they are almost certain that he is incorrect. I think Trump will
always be a racist figurehead, constantly spewing misinformation because he knows the general
public will eat it up. He spent some time in probably what is mostly a white supremacist Texas
town, and suddenly came back with unfounded overestimates of the population of illegal
immigrants. This does not surprise me, nor should it surprise anyone else.

Though illegal immigration has been steadily increasing in recent years, researchers say that it
seems to have stopped or even reversed. At

Portrayal of London in the Opening of Bleak House Essay
The first paragraph of Bleak House alone gives the reader an instant idea of how Charles
Dickens saw London to be around 1842. He has portrayed the streets to be muddy and extremely
polluted, As much mud in the streets as if the waters had but newly retired from the face of the
earth. Here Dickens has used a slight amount of Hyperbole to emphasize his point. He also uses
personification when referring to the snow flakes, saying that they have gone into mourning,
?smoke lowering down from the chimneypots, making a soft black drizzle, with flakes of soot in it
as big as full grown snowflakes?gone into mourning, one might imagine, for the death of the sun.?

He also tells the reader that even outside London?s centre fog is still covering everything, ?Fog
on the Essex marshes, fog on the Kentish heights. Fog creeping into the cabooses of collier
brigs?. Dickens also uses fog to symbolize death and disease, ?Fog in the eyes and throats of
ancient Greenwich pensioners, wheezing by the firesides of their wards?. He makes the reader
feel as if it is infecting and killing the inhabitants of London, and gives the reader images. In my
opinion Dickens is trying to make the point that the fog is spreading and it is London?s fault
that one day everywhere will be covered and everyone will be cloaking on the mistakes London
made. The reader is given the impression that Dickens thinks that this is all the Governments
fault. Right from the beginning the Lord Chancellor is portrayed and lazy, ?Michaelmas term
lately over. Lord Chancellor sitting in Lincoln?s Inn Hall.? He then goes on to refer to Lincoln?s
Inn Hall as ?at the very heart of the fog? insinuating that the Lord Chancellor is the cause of the
fog. He also says, ?Lord High Chancellor ought to be sitting her?as here he is?with a foggy glory
round his head, softly fenced in with a crimson cloth and curtains.? Dickens is making the Lord
Chancellor out to be very ignorant to the problems of London and just engulfed in his own power.
The fact that the Lord Chancellor has ?Crimson cloth and curtains? gives the impression to

Law and Slave Identity in Dred and Pudd nhead Wilson Essay
Law and Slave Identity in Dred and Pudd nhead Wilson What is a slave? A slave, according to
many of the laws in the individual slave states during the 19th century, was an article of property, a
thing, and an object not human. However, according to another, the 3/5 Compromise of 1787, a
slave was worth 3/5 of a white man. The population of the Southern stateswas heavily African, and
this compromise enabled them to count those slaves as 3/5 of a citizen in order to get more
representation in Congress. What does that mean for interpretations of the law? Can a `thing be
tried for murder, or is a slave a man who has committed only 3/5 of the crime? Unfortunately, laws
often have an ambiguity that allows them to be misinterpreted. In... Show more content on

In particular, Twain and Stowe use the closing speeches of both Wilson and Clayton to make an
attempt at defining the identity of slaves under the law and to stress the complexities of race and the
slave to master relationship.
The trial at the end of Pudd nhead Wilson takes place in Dawson s Landing, Missouri. Lawyer
David Wilson, popularly known as Pudd nhead, is defending Luigi and Angelo Capello, charged
in the murder of Judge York Leicester Driscoll. Wilson chooses to use his closing speech not to
assert the points that he had made through the course of the trial and remind the jury of the
evidence that proves the twin s innocence, but rather to expose the guilty party. This speech
begins with, We will now proceed to find the guilty. (140) The word `guilty is ambiguous,
however, because although the trial is concerned with the murder of Judge Driscoll, Wilson s
closing speech focuses on exposing Tom Driscoll as a Negro who was switched at birth. Out of
nearly two pages of text enclosing Wilson s closing remarks, only about 3 sentences even mention
the murder. The rest are concerned with the mistaken identities of a slave and a white gentleman. It

Theme Of Symbolism In The Cask Of Amontillado
The Cask of Amontillado , a story of revenge and murder. Montresor tells his tale of revenge
smugly, as he invites the reader to applaud his cunning. By luring a friend into the catacombs of
the Montresors, he sought to take back his family s honor. To do so, he plotted a most gruesome
murder. By telling the story from Montresor s point of view, Poe forces the reader to look into the
inner workings of a murderer s mind through his clever use of symbolism. Everything within Poe s
stories takes on symbolic meaning. Every detail seems to stand for something else or to be
presenting a vital clue. Those that we encounter in The Cask of Amontilladoare no doubt gruesome.
However, these messages that we are compelled to decipher, create the perfect atmosphere. It s
carnival season, what s usually considered a rapturous event, becomes the perfect place for murder.
Starring Montresor and Fortunato, the reaper escorting the fool; we learn of the cask, a coat of arms
and motto, as well as, one s motives. All of these factors come into symbolic play. The setting, the
title, the coat of arms, the motto, the characters names, as well as their costumes, altogether play
parts in helping make the unfortunate murder of Fortunato all the more horrid and ironic.
To begin, the setting plays a symbolic role; representing a jovial time with an ironic twist. One
could get caught up and lost within a carnival, even murdered. It was not uncommon for someone
to go missing after such events. No

Tobacco s Harmful Effects, Health and Economic Essay
Tobacco kills five million people yearly, which is much more then HIV/Aids, Tuberculosis, and
Malaria combined, according to International Union Against Cancer. This addicting drug can in
fact end up giving the user a death sentence. As the body grows older, the DNA atoms can be
mutated by this seemingly harmless plant. This mutation of cells can eventually spread and the
user will end up with a body full of cancer. These cancer sticks or cigarettes are not only harmful

from cancer. According to VaHealth.org, smoking causes approximately four hundred thousand
deaths per year. Health warnings along with the impact on American wallets are the main two basic
reasons for eradicating tobacco use. These health warnings are not the only reason for eradicating
tobacco use, the other reason is the impact on the people s wallet. The extermination of tobacco

Complication of Amputation and Edema
Title Here Amputation is the general term describing a condition of disability resulting from the
deliberate surgical removal of a part of the body, a limb, or part of a limb (Bowker Michael,
1992). Limb loss can be a congenital condition, the result of traumatic injury, or a surgical
procedure to treat disease (Clawson, 2009). Clawson posits that the majority of amputations in the
United States are the result of vascular disease caused by diabetes (p. 393). In cases of traumatic
amputation, adjustment and adaptation is more difficult than for people who have had time to
prepare, such as may occur with diabetes. Amputations may be performed at any level in the upper
extremities such as the digits, the hand, or the arm, or in the lower extremities such as the toes, the
foot, or the leg. Appropriate rehabilitation is a vital element to helping people with lower limb
amputation learn to walk and function again and live high quality lives (Hanley et al., 2004).
Literature Review
In the United States, the majority of amputations are performed in order to treat complications of
peripheral vascular disease; the greater numbers involve the lower limbs (Clawson, 2009).
According to Bowker and Michael (1992), disease is the most frequent reason for amputation in
adults age 50 or older, while trauma is the usual cause of amputation in younger individuals.

How Technology Has Continuously Improved Computer Hardware...
Since the computer was invented the evolution of technology has grown into culture and has been
the central of communication since the early 1980s. In order to understand the meaning of
encryption and why it is so important, you have to understand why the computer was created and
how inventors have continuously improved computerhardware devices. The computer was first
invented to calculate numbers and help scientists with different mathematical equations. Then
during the world war I, and world war II, Germans were using these computers to encrypt messages
over morse code and complicated algorithms. However these algorithms of encryption were easily
cracked by United States cryptographers. Over the war many encrypted messages were broken and
the German military lost substations, overall control of the war; and eventually surrendering. Safe
to say that encryption devices has been a necessity for transmitting data securely and in today s
society personal containment (Crayton Culp, n.d.). Over the next five decades inventors, of all
nationalities, have worked to improve encryption hardware devices from the internal architecture,
removable storages, networking devices, and the overall networking security module.
Encryption has different meanings depending on what you context you are using it in, but for the
cyber context is means to convert electronic data into another form, called cipher text, which cannot
be easily understood by anyone except authorized parties (Rouse,

herself when she says They said that resistance to tyranny is obedience to God. They wrote a
dangerous document called the declaration of independence. A document which continues to be
dangerous to this day, and for the circulation of which a young man was sentenced to ninety days

to show the jury that our declaration in unconstitutional. She wanted to tell the jury that the
founding fathers were anarchist which is the reason this document was written. To repeat, she
says to the jury I have held ideas all my life. I have publicly held my ideas fro twentyseven years.
Nothing on earth would ever make me change my ideas expect one thing; and that is, if you will
prove to me that our position is wrong, untenable, or lacking in historic facts. But never would I
change my ideas because I am found guilty. (Goldman 9). She continues to tell the jury that she will
stay an anarchist no matter the outcome of the jury s verdict. Emma wants to keep convincing the
jury that she has not committed conspiracy or an overt act crime.

An Analysis Of The Circuit By Francisco Jimenez
Challenges and obstacles are everywhere, and everyday people find ways to overcome them all.
They are what keep someone motivated to continue trying until they reached their goal. As in
The Circuit, from the Grapes of Wrath, and Against the Odds. , they show an example of how
they did it. Individuals surpass hardships by persevering to make progress piece by piece. In the
short story The Circuit by Francisco Jimenez, Panchito dealt with being a migrant worker and
going to school. At school, he struggled to read his English book. According to page 473, it
states, He walked up to me, handed me an English book, and asked me to read... When I heard

Being A Nanny Research Paper
I have been a nanny for the last 8 years. I have worked with newborns, toddlers, boys, girls, and a
teenager with autism. I created meals whenever they were needed. I supplied a healthy and
happy environment. I drove them places to stimulate their mind and have fun while learning. I
was actually a communications aid which was a privilege to be part of their family in seeing
how children with severe autism learn more with the senses because they do not have the

Korean Creation Myth
Cheonjiwang Bonpuli
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Cheonjiwang Bonpuli (Hangul: мІњм§Ђм™• ліён’Ђмќґ, literally Chronicles of Cheonjiwang
) is a Korean creation myth, traditionally retold by shamans in the small island ofJeju Island. It is
one of the best known Creation myths in the Korean peninsula, and many key elements in the
Cheonjiwang Bonpuli can be found in the creation myths of the mainland.[1]
Plot[edit]
Unlike its title, the supreme deity Cheonjiwang (Hangul: мІњм§Ђм™•), whose name literally
means King of the Heavens and the Earth , serves mainly as a secondary character. The protagonists
of the myth are instead the two sons of Cheonjiwang, Daebyeol and Sobyeol.

Sumyeong Jangja ordered a slave to ease his pain by decapitating him. The surprised Cheonjiwang
murmured Amazing. and took the iron ring off Sumyeong Jangja s head. He then continued on his
way.
Cheonjiwang did not return to the sky immediately, but spent the night in Baekju Halmeom
(literally Grandmother Baekju ) s cottage. The bright eared Cheonjiwang heard someone brushing
her hair with a jade comb in the next room, and asked Baekju Halmeom who she was. Baekju
Halmeom answered that it was her only daughter, Chongmyeong Agi. (Hangul: мґќлЄ…м•„кё°,

Chongmyeong Agi was fairer than the Seonnyeo, the heavenly fairies. Cheonjiwang asked both
Chongmyeong Agi and Baekju Halmeom if he could have sexual intercourse with Chongmyeong
Agi, and both decided to accept. Thus, that night, Chongmyeong Agi became Chongmyeong Buin
(Hangul: мґќлЄ…л¶Ђмќё, literally Wise Wife ), as she had experienced love.
Cheonjiwang stayed with his new wife for four days, then left. He gave Chongmyeong Buin two

YTM AND HPR
Yield to maturity (YTM) reflects the return required and set by the market on the assumption that
the bond is held to maturity. In equilibrium, it is also the return that investors can expect to earn
over the life of the bond. Holding Period Return (HPR) is the expected return over a future period,
and is not based on the assumption that the bond is held to maturity. SIMILARITIES п‚· п‚· п‚·
Both expressed as annualised returns (not effective rates) Use the settlement price as cost base Total
returns accounting for both the coupon interest component and the capital gain/loss component
DIFFERENCES п‚· п‚· п‚· YTM is observed and set by the market, HRP is not YTM assumes that
coupon interests are all invested at the same rate as quoted YTM, HPR allows for different
reinvestment interest rates received at different times YTM assumes that bond is held to maturity,
HPR assumes that bond is to be sold before maturity
CALCULATING HPR HRP is used for comparing the expected return among alternate investments
over the same predetermined holding period. However, to accomplish this task, future interest rates
for different lengths are required.

Essay On Hypocrisy In Tartuffe
Moliere during his creation of Tartuffe wanted to bring to attention the underlying issues which
were occurring in society as people began to accept the change in social order and the way of
doing things. This was when the people who were lowly ranked by the aristocrats began to get the
attention they deserved because of the changes and the impact they were making in the society.
Moliere in Tartuffealso wanted to show the hypocrisy which was evident in I m institutions like
aristocracy, church and the working class citizens. Moliere fixed opposite attributes to the
characters from the play so that they could they could represent how irrationality, hypocrisy, and
corruption could manifest themselves to the members of the society who seemed... Show more

In Act, I scene I Madame Parnelle is irritated and irked by the servants in his son s house because
they are paying the deserved attention to her even though she is not in need of any service. Her
aristocracy upbringing demands that servants so are available to her beck and call and they
should be nearby if a need arises. The boiling point of her anger is exemplified when Dorine who
is a housemaid at Orgon s house makes a remark against the guest Tartuffe you may see him as a
saint, but Im far less awed because I see right through him for the frauds that he is (Moliere, p.9).
This statement works to be true in the end because Tartuffe is exposed as a conniving fraud and
Madame Parnelle words which had elevated Tartuffe proved to be false. In her defense of
Tartuffe, Madame Parnelle had called Tartuffe a saint as we will ever find on this side of heaven

make him seem pious in the eyes of the aristocrats which subscribed to religion a lot during the neo
classical period.

because in the midst of all the drama that was

Characteristics Of A Smoothly Running Machine
Explanation of Issues Forte stated that systems have been compared to machines, bodies, and
species (Forte, 2007, p 170). Characteristics of a smoothly running machine are coordination and an
integration of parts; you, the owner, can assume a reliable cause and effect relationship among
these parts of the machine (Forte, 2007, p 170). The reason Systems Theoryapplies to the Brown
family is because all of the parts of the family are struggling independently but by determining how
each individual is affecting the behaviors of others, it may be determined how to best proceed with
treatment.
By examining the Brown family with Systems Theory, it can be identified that the Brown family

then in turn means their behaviors will directly affect their children s behaviors. At the basic

It is common knowledge that the education system in America needs work and that Texas is not

address both the need for change and show what Houston has done to grow. As The Houston
Chronicle releases its media agenda it is not forcing its readers to think a certain way but instead
is presenting an issue in order to spark opinion forming thoughts. The articles all share a common
thread of attributes that help develop the agenda for the reader. The eventual outcomes for the
public differ based on who the reader is and what their current lifestyle is.

The goals of all these articles seems to be getting the general public interested in the education of
our youth to help them achieve more in life. Each article presents the problem and follows the
steps to develop a solution. These possible solutions serve as the final agenda that The Houston
Chronicle hopes the reader will think about and develop an opinion of.
As the general public reads these articles there are three primary outcomes that they could have:
support, disinterest, or opposition. In Fikac s article covering Davis plan for increased education
spending we see the two extreme points of view. Davis with the support of the Democrat party
supports increased incentives for qualified students to enter the field of education along with
increased pay to teachers who are getting the desired results all while hopefully not increasing the
current tax rate. The Republicans argue that Davis math makes little sense and that it is not
possible to spend more without increasing taxes. (Fikac, 2014) When the public reads this article
the media will have fulfilled their goal of getting the audience to think about the subject. The
outcome will be dependent upon the reader s views and expectations of the government in regards
to education. The outcome is also dependent on the reader s lifestyle. A person with multiple school
age children will be more prone to considering The Houston Chronicles agenda then a

Portrayal Of Women In The Odyssey
The portrayal of women in society and literature is known to be sexist and male dominated. The
Odyssey by Homer, translated by Robert Fagles, has similar portrayal of women and it presents
women as deceiving in many cases, as well as, their subservience. From a feminist perspective, one
would agree that women in The Odysseycompared to the men are deceptive and very dependent on
the males in their families, including their husbands. The men, however, are demonstrated as
independent and as the protectors of the household, while the women are forced to stay. To begin
with, women in The Odyssey are portrayed as deceptive in several situations. For example, Circe
and Odysseusmen. Circe was deceiving to Odysseus men by luring them in with her voice,
poisoning them, and then holding them captive (Book 10, lines 242 254). Not only were some
of the women deceiving, but all women were perceived that way by men. When Hermes told
Calypso, by the orders of Zeus, to let Odysseus leave she confronted him and told him to go, but
he hesitated because of the thought of her deceiving him (Book 5, 125 199). Now I am
willing...to send you off at last... (Book 5, line 179). Odysseus responded to Calypso by saying,
Passage home? I won t set foot on a raft until you show me good faith, until you consent to swear,
goddess, a binding oath you ll never plot some new intrigue to harm me! (Book 5, lines 192 199).

A Research Study On Developmental Disability
According to Gail Goldsmith, BSW, who just retired from Northern Lakes Community Mental
Health, NLCMH is authorized by the Michigan Department of Community Health to provide
mental health services and services to those with developmental disabilities.
Developmental disability is generally defined as a chronic condition, with an onset before age 22,
that cause impairment in one or more areas that impact day to day functioning such as learning,
communication (expressive and receptive language), mobility, cognitive function (information
processing), self help, health/physical functioning and independent living. Conditions such as
Down s syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, and fetal alcohol syndrome are some of the most
prevalent causes of impairment. Often these conditions create a need for lifelong support.
According to the Center For Disease Control, in a study published by the American Academy of
Pediatrics, nearly 1 in 6 children in the United States are identified as having a developmental
disability. (Boyle 2011)
According to Gail the demographics have changed dramatically over the years. The number of
clients with autism has increased dramatically. Programs and services change with administration.
Each new administration has their own interpretation of how exactly mandated programs should be
run and what they are and are not required to provide eligible clients.

Some of the problems which may be addressed in the PR statement can be seen in my twenty four

The Effects Of Jews On Jewish Population During The Nazi...
An important topic is being researched, and it concerns the Final Solution of the Nazis concerning
the Jews. On January 20th 1942, 15 leading officials of the Nazi state met at a villa in Wannsee, a
suburb of Berlin, to discuss the Final solution of the Jewish Question ( The Final Solution, 2015).
They used the term Final Solution to refer to their plan to annihilate the Jewish people. It is not
known when the leaders of Nazi Germanydefinitively decided to implement their plan to eradicate
the Jews ( United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, 2015). Although, the genocide, or mass
destruction, of the Jews was the culmination of a decade of increasingly severe discriminatory
measures ( United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, 2015). The Final Solution resulted in the
holocaust, one of the most horrific crimes against humanity. As a result, I am going to discuss the
Final Solution, and its effects on Jewish population during the Nazi regime.
Firstly, when Adolf Hitlercame into power in Germany on May 8th 1945, one of his main goals
was to purify the German race. He believed that all races were inferior to the German race. As a
result, the Jewish people of Europe suffered severe persecution which eventually led to them being

Ancient Greek And Greek History
In ancient Greek, hundreds of city state called polis was developed throughout the area. Polis
means an independent community of citizens inhabiting a city and the countryside around it (Hunt,
51). Being in mountainous and island region, many were isolated from each other, and often hostile
to each other. They maintained constant conflicts between polis throughout ancient Greek history.
They never became a nation. Among many polis, Athens and Spartaare the most famous ancient
Greek polis known to modern history. They were unique in terms of political systems as well as its
culture. Even though they had same cultural background such as same language or same religions,
their political systems were very different. There were three types of political systems adapted by
ancient Greek. Athens had democracywhile Sparta had Oligarchy. Corinth had Tyranny. The
comparison between Sparta and Athens in terms of political system as well as cultural
background will be discussed in this research paper. In ancient Greek, polis has two different
meaning. First, polis means literally a city, an urban settlement, and a social boundary. Second,
polis also has meaning of a state, and a political organization. The polis in ancient Greek has both
meaning, as a city as well as a state and political entity. Each polis has chosen different political
system. Sometimes, they changed their political system after bad tyrant dies or weak oligarchy not

The sixteenth century was a time of scientific, historical, archaeological, religious and artistic
exploration. More attention was being allotted to probing into the depths of the human psyche and
it was up to the artists and poets rather than the priests and scholars to examine and mirror these
internal landscapes. The little world of man [1] was reflected through various artistic forms, one of
which was the sonnet, which was conventionally used for dedications, moral epigrams and the like.
Traditionally most sonnets dealt with the theme of romantic love and in general the sonneteer dealt

Incidentally, although not a realistic autobiography, Stella is modelled on Penelope Devereux, who
was supposed to marry Sidney but was then forced to marry Lord Rich, and phil in Astrophil is
indeed an abbreviation of Sidney s first name, Philip . After finding out about Penelope s marriage,
fate had it that Sidney started to truly have feelings for her although by this time it was too late.
Astrophil s actions seem to be forgiven by some critics because he is after all driven by love. In
fact Sidney s depiction of the male protagonist is one which makes some critics and readers
empathize with him during his lamentations and praise of Stella. This may be because it is thought
that Sidney s aim was to show readers how a man can let his emotions get the better of him, thereby
leading him into eventual despair. It is through Astrophil s mistakes and negative example that
Sidney is able to inculcate morality. This is also another typical quality of sonneteers, who aim to
morally instruct through their art.
Beneath the witty surface of Astrophil s lamentations, Thomas P. Roche seems to feel that Sidney
is using Astrophil s journey from hope to despair as a fictional device for the analysis of human
desire in Christian terms. [2] Consequently Roche points out that in witnessing Astrophil s despair
the readers reaction is supposed to make them conscious of his limitations from a

value (Bissinger 67). The imagery illustrates here depicts an oppression tone which translates to the
fact that Blacks athletes are solely exploited until they have reach their point of exhaustion. In sum,
Bissinger is implying that African Americanare only accepted in the realm of Odessa football
because they are physically capable of bringing victory to the game. However, when black athletes
are seen as no longer useful in the playing field, the Permian whites automatically omit them from
the hierarchy. Laurence Hurd, an African American Church of Christ minister, compared this
prejudice to the period of slavery: Today, instead of the cotton field, it s the sports arena (Bissinger
109). Through the dialogue of Hurd, the reader can clearly see that this comparison reflects the
antebellum era, in which labor oppression as well as unfair discrimination were at its prime against
people of color. For that matter, Hurd is essentially highlighting the perpetuation of blacks
exploitation, specifying the continuous prejudice thoughts from the White society. Unfortunately,

Ripeness Case Study
I.The current issue is whether Maurice has standing to bring his suit to district court. Standing
ensures that individuals meet certain qualifications to permit the court to hear their case. Under
Article III, there must be a case or controversy present before an individual possesses standing.
This requires an injury in fact, a causal connection between the injury in fact and the defendant s
actions, and there must be a way to redress the harm done. The ripeness doctrine ensures that only
injury in facts that have already occurred may be heard. In his claim, Maurice produced three
pieces of evidence, retaining to: his employment record, his need to obtain a job and an affidavit
stating that the company stores employment records and has sent

Essay The Taliban and Afghanistan
The Taliban and Afghanistan
Afghanistan followed the same fate as dozens of formerly Soviet occupied countries after the
collapse of Moscow s Marxist government in 1991. Islamic factions, which had united to expel the
Russian occupiers in 1992, began to fight among themselves when it became apparent that post
communist coalition governments could not overcome the deep rooted ethnic and religious
differences of the members. It was in this atmosphere of economic strife and civil war that a
fundamentalist band of religious students emerged victorious. By 1996, this group, the
Taliban, ruled 90% of the country with a controversial holy iron hand. The other 10% of the
country is tenaciously held by minority opposition groups led by ... Show more content on

Women must stay at home.
If necessary, women who do leave the house must be accompanied by a male relative and cover
themselves with a burqa (an ankle length veil with a mesh like opening in front of the eyes).
Non religious music, cassette tapes, TV and movies are all banned. Multi colored signs are
prohibited. White socks are forbidden (either because they are considered a sexual lure or because
they resemble Afghanistan s flag). Children cannot fly kites, play chess or play with the pigeons
since it distracts them from their religious studies. Men must wear beards or face prison until
their shaven whiskers grow back. Paper bags are banned since the paper might have been recycled
from old Korans and lower level windows must be blackened to prevent males from inadvertently
catching women in compromising states. In order to guarantee that men and women observe the
new rules, the Taliban have employed a moral police force (Agents for the
Preservation of Virtue and Elimination of Vice) to search for violators. The purported brutal
treatment of offenders by the moral police has led Amnesty International to classify the conduct a
reign of terror. Prior to the Civil War and Taliban control, especially in Kabul
, the capital, women in
Afghanistan were educated and employed: 50% of the students and 60% of the teachers at
Kabul University were women, and 70% of school teachers, 50% of civilian government

Nathan In The Poisonwood Bible
9) Share your thoughts on why the author never has Nathan Price narrate directly. Everything you
know about Nathan must be derived from what others said about him. Consider why Kingsolver
chose to omit Nathan s narration.
Nathan Price is not given a voice in The Poisonwood Bible because the story does not revolve
around him personally. The story revolves around his wife and four daughters, who are heavily
affected by all of his decisions and actions. Nathan indeed is the center of all the tragedy and
hardship that the girls endure, but Nathan does not suffer his own consequences, until his ultimate
demise at the hand of the Congolese. Also, I believe Kingsolver wanted a precise image of
Nathan in the reader s mind whenever he was found throughout the story. She wanted to depict
him as abhorrent and repulsive, so the readers despise him even more. Nathan is the center of pain
for the Price family. First, he forces them to leave their luxurious home in Bethlehem, Georgia, and
move all the way to the Congo, isolated from their modern society. All four of the children are
deprived from a proper education, and the entire family is restricted ... Show more content on

Every time Nathan was present in the story I was immediately displeased and wanted him gone.
His vulgar comments and actions anger the reader so much, and Kingsolver wanted that image to
stay. She wanted the readers to hate him so they can sympathize with Orleanna and her
daughters. If she included his narrations in the book, the reader could possibly see his soft side,
and his anger. His frustration has to have a root somewhere (his horrific experience in the war),
and with the exposure of his own thoughts and feelings, the reader would be able to witness them
and have a new opinion of him. For the purpose of The Poisonwood Bible though, Nathan had to
remain the antagonist and stay the bad

Los Angeles, Five High Schools Essay
Throughout many cities, in specifically Los Angeles, five high schools were faced with
discrimination. Lincoln, Garfield, Wilson, Belmont, Roosevelt high schools was targeted in many
racist ways. These high schools had restricted rules towards students. Majority of the student
populations in these schools were Latinxs. They faced problems that were not as necessary
problematic. According to Jose Angel Gutierrez, English was the only language allowed spoken in
the classroom and schoolyard. Severe punishment awaited the bold who uttered their native Spanish
language within earshot of schoolofficials (2). Students were forbidden to speak Spanish during
school hours. Students were forbidden from using the bathroom, especially during lunchtime.
Students were denied to be taught their Mexican American history. Students were mostly being led
into the labor industry instead of going to collegeand getting a degree. According to E. Esparza
(2006), We had a huge conference that summer of 1967, in which college students there were a
couple of hundred came together from throughout Southern California. It was basically almost
everyone who was in college then, because there was less than 2% of all Chicanos that even
enrolled in college . Students were discriminated by many teachers and administrators.
Administrators were not responsible and repeatedly called out, leaving small staff to teach the
students. Students did not only receive these discriminatory actions, they also

Self Reliance By Emerson
In Emerson essay Self Reliance he demonstrates that people should be relying on themselves
because everyone is different and thinks differently. Emerson believes our heart will feel
strongly that which we should be doing. Emerson suggests that people that people be happy
with themselves and do what and do what makes them happy because we don t then we will be
filled with regret. Then Emerson shows that being a person that relies on themselves will bring
that person into happiness; however, if all a person does is just copy and be jealous over others
that person will not be happy which Emerson says succinctly envy is ignorance. Then Emerson
goes on to say it is easy in solitude to live after our own to point out that we will easily accomplish

if those people can start to trust themselves then those people will unleash their hidden talents.
Then if people listen to what they want or themselves and not what parents, friends or adults have
to say then it will not have any effect other than getting what needs to be done for those people.
Then lastly, if people concentrate on the present then those people can enjoy their life because they

Oklahoma! by Trevor Nunn is a romantic musical that revolves around two characters, Curly (played by Hugh Jackman) and Laurey (played by Josefina Gabrielle), who are not as expressive about their love for one another as they should be. Furthermore, as the story progresses, both Curly and Laurey remain distant from one another and try to provoke jealousy, in order to make the other admit their love. The theme revolves around the idea that if one does not express their true feelings and remain true to themselves, consequences could ensue that may involve others who had nothing to do with their issues in the first place. This theme could be derived from the inciting incident, the rising action and the climax. The inciting incident occurs due to the fact that Laurey chooses Jud over Curley in order to see how he would react. This example remains true to the theme since jealousy is the main force driving Laurey to commit to her actions, all the while remaining in denial of actually liking Jud. Moreover, Curley, being jealous of Jud, decides to pay him a visit which causes a commotion and a worsens the relationship between the two characters. Furthermore, this theme is at its peak relevancy when Laurey has her dream sequence. In Laurey s dream sequence, it is obvious that she has feelings for Curley, however, since she chooses to remain in denial and pursues the act of making Curley jealous, her dream sequence takes a turn for the worst. As her [Laurey] dream sequence progresses, she starts having visions of being raped and begins to see Curley being hurt by Jud, thus show her how her childish acts have hurt others and herself included. By leading Jud to believe that she has feelings for him, he begins to develop great feelings for her, therefore, at the climax of the play, Jud returns for Curley and Laurey s wedding in order to kill Curley, however, it is Jud that dies in the end. The consequences of Laurey remaining in denial and being jealous, led to her almost being raped and the death of Jud. One could also argue that it was Jud s jealousy of Curley that led to his ... The diversity of health care systems in other countries would make individuals think that the United States would have thoughts of changing a majority of their policies. The information given in the documentary was factual and useful to my knowledge. The information also provides me with ways I could approach my future career in health care, which is epidemiology. As an epidemiologist, disease would be my main focus point which produces an impact on individuals. More disease, equals more health care and more expenses. In this paper, I intend to include details about the documentary, present an analysis of what was shown, and express my reaction to the video. In this informative documentary, it concentrates on 5 particular countries and explores ways each country provides healthcare to their citizens. Even though the policies and regulations are different from the United States, does that necessarily mean their ways are more beneficial? The author helps to explain and break the concept down for the viewers. For example the first country the author represented in the video was Great Britain. Here, the government run Nation Health Care System has all of its citizens covered which means no medical bill and no one has to file bankruptcy. If you didn t know the Alamo, it is in San Antonio and it stood for a very good reason. Let me begin in the Alamo, it was originally built as the chapel of the Mission San Antonio de Valero. Alike all of the spanish missions it was both a, religious and industrial trade school for indians. For years it had a couple of huts and a small stone tower until, it was destroyed by a storm in 1724. Soon the first stone church was constructed in 1744 and then collapsed in 1756. They started with the second church but it was never finished, it also still stands in the Alamo Plaza. 37 years later (1793) nothing really happened but, San Antonio de Valero was still a home to missionaries and their Native American converts until, the spanish authorities saw the Alamo... • 10. Sex And Gender Are Not Equal Sex and gender are not equal contrary to common assumption. Sex, as defined by Rosman, is the physical differences between male and female [based on] biological and anatomical composition of genitals and secondary sexual characteristics (141). On the other hand, gender is defined as the culture specific set of behavioral, ideological, and social meanings constructed around the understandings of these biological and anatomical differences (142). So what does this mean? Indeed, the assumption of sexequating to genderis not necessarily true because gender is culturally constructed. Different societies often have different perceptions of what gender is: for instance North American heteronormative culture in comparison with the gender relationships of people in Wogeo (minimal differences between men and women) or of the people in Samoa specifically focusing on the fa afafine. The film, Paradise Bent, directed by Heather Croall explores part of the world of fa afafines. The fa afafine of Samoa are their own gender defying the gender binaries of strictly male or female. The word itself means in the manner of a woman and according to the film, fa afafines are men playing women s roles yet they are largely accepted by their communities. • 11. The Problem Of Illegal Immigrants Donald Trump wrongly says the number of illegal immigrants is 30 million or higher Donald Trump made several claims recently that the population of illegal immigrants in the U.S. has risen to thirty million or more. He claimed that the government had no grasp on the population of illegal immigrants, and that he s seen those estimates in several papers and other sources. The Department of Homeland Security disagreed, saying that their calculations of illegal immigrants took a lot of factors into account. Even with a plus or minus one million margin, there was no way possible for the number of illegal immigrants to have tripled without them knowing. Several other major research organizations agreed, saying they also came up with estimates very close to the eleven million estimate given. No one is really sure where exactly Trump got these outrageous and wildly inaccurate claims, but they are almost certain that he is incorrect. I think Trump will always be a racist figurehead, constantly spewing misinformation because he knows the general public will eat it up. He spent some time in probably what is mostly a white supremacist Texas town, and suddenly came back with unfounded overestimates of the population of illegal immigrants. He has portrayed the streets to be muddy and extremely polluted, As much mud in the streets as if the waters had but newly retired from the face of the earth. Here Dickens has used a slight amount of Hyperbole to emphasize his point. He also uses personification when referring to the snow flakes, saying that they have gone into mourning, ?smoke lowering down from the chimneypots, making a soft black drizzle, with flakes of soot in it as big as full grown snowflakes?gone into mourning, one might imagine, for the death of the sun.? the contrast of the imagery he is using helps for the reader to imagine the scene,... Fog creeping into the cabooses of collier brigs?. Dickens also uses fog to symbolize death and disease, ?Fog in the eyes and throats of ancient Greenwich pensioners, wheezing by the firesides of their wards?. He makes the reader feel as if it is infecting and killing the inhabitants of London, and gives the reader images. In my opinion Dickens is trying to make the point that the fog is spreading and it is London?s fault that one day everywhere will be covered and everyone will be cloaking on the mistakes London made. The reader is given the impression that Dickens thinks that this is all the Governments fault. Right from the beginning the Lord Chancellor is portrayed and lazy, ?Michaelmas term lately over. Lord Chancellor sitting in Lincoln?s Inn Hall.? He then goes on to refer to Lincoln?s Inn Hall as ?at the very heart of the fog? insinuating that the Lord Chancellor is the cause of the fog. He also says, ?Lord High Chancellor ought to be sitting her?as here he is?with a foggy glory round his head, softly fenced in with a crimson cloth and curtains.? Dickens is making the Lord Chancellor out to be very ignorant to the problems of London and just engulfed in his own power. A slave, according to many of the laws in the individual slave states during the 19th century, was an article of property, a thing, and an object not human. However, according to another, the 3/5 Compromise of 1787, a slave was worth 3/5 of a white man. The population of the Southern stateswas heavily African, and this compromise enabled them to count those slaves as 3/5 of a citizen in order to get more representation in Congress. • 16. Complication of Amputation and Edema Title Here Amputation is the general term describing a condition of disability resulting from the deliberate surgical removal of a part of the body, a limb, or part of a limb (Bowker Michael, 1992). Limb loss can be a congenital condition, the result of traumatic injury, or a surgical procedure to treat disease (Clawson, 2009). Clawson posits that the majority of amputations in the United States are the result of vascular disease caused by diabetes (p. 393). In cases of traumatic amputation, adjustment and adaptation is more difficult than for people who have had time to prepare, such as may occur with diabetes. Amputations may be performed at any level in the upper extremities such as the digits, the hand, or the arm, or in the lower extremities such as the toes, the foot, or the leg. Appropriate rehabilitation is a vital element to helping people with lower limb amputation learn to walk and function again and live high quality lives (Hanley et al., 2004). Literature Review In the United States, the majority of amputations are performed in order to treat complications of peripheral vascular disease; the greater numbers involve the lower limbs (Clawson, 2009). According to Bowker and Michael (1992), disease is the most frequent reason for amputation in adults age 50 or older, while trauma is the usual cause of amputation in younger individuals. Since the computer was invented the evolution of technology has grown into culture and has been the central of communication since the early 1980s. In order to understand the meaning of encryption and why it is so important, you have to understand why the computer was created and how inventors have continuously improved computerhardware devices. The computer was first invented to calculate numbers and help scientists with different mathematical equations. Then during the world war I, and world war II, Germans were using these computers to encrypt messages over morse code and complicated algorithms. However these algorithms of encryption were easily cracked by United States cryptographers. Over the war many encrypted messages were broken and the German military lost substations, overall control of the war; and eventually surrendering. Safe to say that encryption devices has been a necessity for transmitting data securely and in today s society personal containment (Crayton Culp, n.d.). Over the next five decades inventors, of all nationalities, have worked to improve encryption hardware devices from the internal architecture, removable storages, networking devices, and the overall networking security module. The boiling point of her anger is exemplified when Dorine who is a housemaid at Orgon s house makes a remark against the guest Tartuffe you may see him as a saint, but Im far less awed because I see right through him for the frauds that he is (Moliere, p.9). • 31. Portrayal Of Women In The Odyssey The portrayal of women in society and literature is known to be sexist and male dominated. The Odyssey by Homer, translated by Robert Fagles, has similar portrayal of women and it presents women as deceiving in many cases, as well as, their subservience. From a feminist perspective, one would agree that women in The Odysseycompared to the men are deceptive and very dependent on the males in their families, including their husbands. The men, however, are demonstrated as independent and as the protectors of the household, while the women are forced to stay. To begin with, women in The Odyssey are portrayed as deceptive in several situations. For example, Circe and Odysseusmen. Circe was deceiving to Odysseus men by luring them in with her voice, poisoning them, and then holding them captive (Book 10, lines 242 254). Not only were some of the women deceiving, but all women were perceived that way by men. When Hermes told Calypso, by the orders of Zeus, to let Odysseus leave she confronted him and told him to go, but he hesitated because of the thought of her deceiving him (Book 5, 125 199). Now I am willing...to send you off at last... (Book 5, line 179). Odysseus responded to Calypso by saying, Passage home? I won t set foot on a raft until you show me good faith, until you consent to swear, goddess, a binding oath you ll never plot some new intrigue to harm me! (Book 5, lines 192 199). The little world of man [1] was reflected through various artistic forms, one of which was the sonnet, which was conventionally used for dedications, moral epigrams and the like. After finding out about Penelope s marriage, fate had it that Sidney started to truly have feelings for her although by this time it was too late. Astrophil s actions seem to be forgiven by some critics because he is after all driven by love. In fact Sidney s depiction of the male protagonist is one which makes some critics and readers empathize with him during his lamentations and praise of Stella. This may be because it is thought that Sidney s aim was to show readers how a man can let his emotions get the better of him, thereby leading him into eventual despair. It is through Astrophil s mistakes and negative example that Sidney is able to inculcate morality. This is also another typical quality of sonneteers, who aim to morally instruct through their art. Beneath the witty surface of Astrophil s lamentations, Thomas P. Roche seems to feel that Sidney is using Astrophil s journey from hope to despair as a fictional device for the analysis of human desire in Christian terms. Essay The Taliban and Afghanistan The Taliban and Afghanistan Afghanistan followed the same fate as dozens of formerly Soviet occupied countries after the collapse of Moscow s Marxist government in 1991. Islamic factions, which had united to expel the Russian occupiers in 1992, began to fight among themselves when it became apparent that post communist coalition governments could not overcome the deep rooted ethnic and religious differences of the members. It was in this atmosphere of economic strife and civil war that a fundamentalist band of religious students emerged victorious. By 1996, this group, the Taliban, ruled 90% of the country with a controversial holy iron hand. The other 10% of the country is tenaciously held by minority opposition groups led by ... If necessary, women who do leave the house must be accompanied by a male relative and cover themselves with a burqa (an ankle length veil with a mesh like opening in front of the eyes). Non religious music, cassette tapes, TV and movies are all banned. Multi colored signs are prohibited. White socks are forbidden (either because they are considered a sexual lure or because they resemble Afghanistan s flag). Children cannot fly kites, play chess or play with the pigeons since it distracts them from their religious studies. Men must wear beards or face prison until their shaven whiskers grow back. Paper bags are banned since the paper might have been recycled from old Korans and lower level windows must be blackened to prevent males from inadvertently catching women in compromising states. In order to guarantee that men and women observe the new rules, the Taliban have employed a moral police force (Agents for the Preservation of Virtue and Elimination of Vice) to search for violators. The purported brutal treatment of offenders by the moral police has led Amnesty International to classify the conduct a reign of terror. Prior to the Civil War and Taliban control, especially in Kabul , the capital, women in Afghanistan were educated and employed: 50% of the students and 60% of the teachers at Kabul University were women, and 70% of school teachers, 50% of civilian government ... • 41. Nathan In The Poisonwood Bible 9) Share your thoughts on why the author never has Nathan Price narrate directly. Everything you know about Nathan must be derived from what others said about him. Consider why Kingsolver chose to omit Nathan s narration. Nathan Price is not given a voice in The Poisonwood Bible because the story does not revolve around him personally. The story revolves around his wife and four daughters, who are heavily affected by all of his decisions and actions. Nathan indeed is the center of all the tragedy and hardship that the girls endure, but Nathan does not suffer his own consequences, until his ultimate demise at the hand of the Congolese. Also, I believe Kingsolver wanted a precise image of Nathan in the reader s mind whenever he was found throughout the story. She wanted to depict him as abhorrent and repulsive, so the readers despise him even more. Nathan is the center of pain for the Price family. First, he forces them to leave their luxurious home in Bethlehem, Georgia, and move all the way to the Congo, isolated from their modern society. All four of the children are deprived from a proper education, and the entire family is restricted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Every time Nathan was present in the story I was immediately displeased and wanted him gone. His vulgar comments and actions anger the reader so much, and Kingsolver wanted that image to stay. She wanted the readers to hate him so they can sympathize with Orleanna and her daughters. If she included his narrations in the book, the reader could possibly see his soft side, and his anger. His frustration has to have a root somewhere (his horrific experience in the war), and with the exposure of his own thoughts and feelings, the reader would be able to witness them and have a new opinion of him. For the purpose of The Poisonwood Bible though, Nathan had to remain the antagonist and stay the bad ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
