Strawberry And Chocolate Comparative Essay
Both Strawberry and Chocolate and Amores Perros deal with the different roles of men and
masculinity in the Latin American society. They depict men in different roles from the aggressive role
to the hopeless romantic role. They each show different forms of masculinity and what these different
roles signify in Latin American society. There are many narrative differences in these two films and
those differences effect how the point of the films get across. First, starting with Strawberry and
Chocolate or (Fresa y chocolate). This film takes place in Havana, Cuba in 1979 during the Castro
regime. It was released in 1994 post soviet union and critiques the bureaucracy of Castro regime. The
movie is about a character named David who is sent by his friend to spy on a gay artist named Diego

They are violent and their bodies are also shown but in a more rugged dangerous way. Ramiro is
disrespectful to women and those around him. He is viewed in the camera from below in a power
position. He is abusive to Susana and is nice only when he wants sex. Jarocho is also disrespectful to
those around him and is seen as a leader. In the second story of Daniel and Valeria, Daniel is upper
class who left his wife and kids for a model. He buys her a new apartment. She goes to get wine to
celebrate and that is how she ends up in the path of the car crash. This causes her to lose her leg and
her career. Daniel is first seen as a caring family man although that changes when we find out he is
having an affair. This affair defines his masculinity however because he is doing what is a stereotype
of most upper class men. He is trading up and getting himself a younger, hotter trophy wife. He is still
however shown in a caring way because he cooks for Valeria and takes care of her after she loses her
leg although her appeal is gone. His masculinity starts spiraling down and he is conflicted after

Copyright Laws Protect Intellectual Property
Copyright laws are intended to protect the intellectual properties of writers, musicians, artists, and
others. In order for a work to be copyrightable, it must be both tangible, or fixed, and original. There
have been many changes made to copyright law throughout time, however, each change has been
made in order to further protect a person s intellectual property. In order for a work be eligible to be
copyrighted it must fall into one of seven tangible or fixed categories. These categories include literary
works, audio visual works, sound recordings, musicals, pantomimes or choreography,
pictorial/graphic/sculptural representations, and dramatic works. Architectural works became
copyrightable in 1990. There are also several things that cannot be copyrighted. These limited things
include titles and names, ideas, works by the United States Federal government, works without
authorship or facts, and fashion. A copyright gives the copyright holder exclusive rights to produce
copies of their work and sell those copies, to import and/or export the work, to create derivative works
based upon the original work, to perform or display the work in a public forum, to transmit or display
their works via radio or video, and to transfer these aforementioned rights as whole or in part, to
others. Additionally, it should be noted that derivative works subsequently acquire a new copyright
that is not attached to the original work. In 1995, a sixth exclusive right was included; the right to

Study Of The Airline Industry Resilience And The Terrorist...
Finally, Company Size, Industry, Company Ownership, Organizational Design (Czinkota et al., 2010),
and Firm Age are introduced in the model to control for factors beyond relationships that could
influence the dependent variable of performance resilience. Data Analysis The research method relies
upon the general methodological framework used by Gittell et al. (2006) in the study of the airlines
industry resilience to the terrorist attacks of 9/11. This exploratory archival data analysis employs
quantitative statistical techniques from the terrorism and international business literature stream.
Initially, correlation analysis between the operationalized independent variables, moderating variables,
control variables and the dependent variable will be conducted, using Pearson Correlation Coefficients
as a measure, to identify and evaluate non causal associations and strengths of relationships between
variables. In addition, scatterplots would be created of the variables to determine whether linear
relationships exist. An analysis of variance (ANOVA) would be used as the general structure for
statistical testing of the conceptual model, shown in Figure 4, using the F test. Moreover, the F test
would be an initial overall inference test of the operationalized conceptual model. Furthermore,
collinearity diagnostics tests for multi collinearity on the independent and moderating variables will be
performed using Variance Inflation Factors as a gauge to assess any overlap or

Jet Blue and West Jet Essay
JET BLUE AND WESTJET: A tale of two IS projects
1. How important is the reservation systems at airlines such as WestJet and JetBlue. How does it
impact operational activities and decision making?
Over the past years, customers have been heavily relying on airline reservation systems to book their
tickets, reserve seats, pay for the tickets and also check in online. For customers, this has been a very
convenient method and they are able to easily plan their trips. For the Airline companies, these
systems have the whole flight inventory managed. They have all the flight information stored and
records are maintained. It also provides a platform for communication between other airline
companies for their code sharing plans and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
WestJet faces the risk of losing many of their customers due to their system crashes and delays. This
benefits their competitors and hence a lot of revenue is lost in this process. WestJet also spent a lot of
money for testing the system and training the employees well in advance however there was a high
risk of damaging the brand name since other surrounding issues such as website crashes made
customers angry and brought a bad reputation. After seeing what happened to WestJet, JetBlue faced a
similar risk of losing customers during the upgrade system however they had to incur costs to build up
a back up site. There s always a risk when customers don t like the upgraded system. It raises many
questions; What if the customers prefer the older system? Big losses can occur. However, on the other
side the upgrade can be efficient and if it works better than the previous version, it can lead to attract
more customers. 3. Classify and describe the problems each airline faced in implementing its new
reservation system. What people, organization, and technology factors caused those problems?
WestJet faced problems in transferring files containing data on transactions for customers who had
already purchased their tickets before the system upgrade. They could not access the passenger
bookings and this caused delays because it took time to transfer the files. Another problem they faced
was angry customers who flooded their site and

Essay on Human Gene Therapy
Human Gene Therapy
Imagine this, you have just married your college sweetheart this past summer. You have now been
happily married for over a year and you find out that the two of you are going to be parents. So as the
typical soon to be mom and dad so commonly do, the two of you start going to the doctor for
checkups to make sure the pregnancy is running smoothly. Early in the pregnancy you hear the worst,
your baby has a fatal disease. The two of you are terribly heart broken over the situation. You tell your
doctor that abortion is out of the question because you do not believe in it. On the other hand the
doctor hits you with the question, What about gene therapy? Unfortunately you and your spouse look
dumbfounded at each other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gene therapy techniques consist of several key elements. An important element, actually one of the
most important elements is the identification and cloning of the gene or genes related to the disease,
which is going to be maintained or treated by gene therapy. However, gene therapy should not be
confused with the concept of cloning. Cloning is creating another individual with essentially the same
genetic makeup. The idea of cloning an entire human is very different from gene therapy. Next the
expression and efficiency of gene transfer during gene therapy must be emphasized. Scientists
involved with gene therapy research are currently trying to discover the best rates of gene transfer and
tissue specific gene expression. Gene therapy research is still in the formative stages. Although a
number of early human clinical trials have been initiated to test important concepts that have emerged.
The genes we inherit from our parents virtually affect every human disease. The argument for gene
therapy lies in the understanding of the genetic basis of human disease. There are an amazing 100,000
individual genes in the human genome. At the present time there is an international movement known
as the Human Genome Project. The project will eventually provide an understanding of how each
gene plays a role in human lives. The project

Atheism And Agnosticism
Atheism and Agnosticism: Ignorance OverDivine Being
John Carlo N. Saberdo
I. Background One of the most common criticisms of atheism is that life can have no meaning without
God belief. I ve always found this argument puzzling, because even if true, it does absolutely nothing
to prove the existence of God. What the believer is saying is that God belief gives him or her the
feeling that life has meaning. Well, that s great, but your feelings don t prove anything. There are
indicators, however, that atheism is growing and is more widespread than the media and in fact, there
are more than half of the world s population, and more than 90% of the world s scientists, do not
believe in a personal God.
In this paper, I will argue that this argument

Gender Wage Gap Analysis
Throughout history there have been many inequalities between men and women. The most recent
inequality is the gender wage gap. Despite the efforts women have made to create equal opportunity,
women are still valued less than men. For example, women s work performance is not valued as
highly as men s and a woman s median annual income is 20% less than a man s (Miller, C). Even in
jobs with similar responsibilities, the pay still differs, the median earnings of information technology
managers (mostly men) are 27 percent higher than human resources managers (mostly women) ....
janitors (usually men) earn 22 percent more than maids and housecleaners (usually women) (Miller,
C). Individuals in power have a greater influence on society and considering that men dominate the
corporate world, men have the power to impact women s wages (Johnson). Gender biases and social
pressures also influence wage gaps (Miller, C). The gender wage gap contributes to the patriarchy
society in America. It has become a norm in society for men to have higher paying jobs. In the
workforce, women are sometimes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The structures influence people in different ways. Because men make more money than women,
couples tend to live closer to the men s job (Miller, C). Johnson explains some norms for women such
as, taking care of children and working in other domestic related jobs (Johnson). Studies also show
that when large numbers of women enter predominately male fields, the wages drop, even though it is
the same job (Miller, C). Wingefield explains gender inequality in the workforce through the symbol
of the glass escalator. The glass escalator conveys how women have a harder time acquiring positions
of power in men dominated fields, than men have in women dominated fields (Wingefield). These
phenomena prove that women s work is less valued than

Perverse Feminine Masochism
Perverse feminine masochism From the case study of Mary, we propose the notion of perverse
feminine masochism as antinomic with erotic feminine masochism, the latter being based on the
change of desired object. The desire to be penetrated by the father, then by the lover, supports the
investment of penetration as a promised opening. Thus, whereas erotic feminine masochism relies on
the primary erogenous masochism, constitutes a basis of the first narcissistic foundations and
counterinvests moral masochism, for some people, the encounter with the sexual might be
contrastingly traumatizing and reactive pregenital anxieties of intrusion that may be compared with a
revivification of incest (Schaeffer, 2002). Perverse feminine masochism is made

The Lore Of La Llorona
1. Lore; noun; a body of traditions and knowledge on a subject, or held by a particular group, typically
passed from person to person by word of mouth; traditions and knowledge passed on; Many cultures
have some type of lore that the people of that culture tell. For example, in Mexico, there is the lore of
La Llorona. There are plenty of stories of how she could not stop crying for her kids at the river.
Moreover, there is also lore about witches in Salem. People tell stories and write books about lore that
is passed on.
2. Lucrative; adjective; producing a great deal of profit; something can make a lot of money; Karen
had a lucrative idea. She did not want to share it with others because she knew she would produce so
much profit that everyone else would go out of business. Her business would even be more lucrative
than Andrea s cupcake shop. It would make more money than Facebook. She did not want to have
such power and responsibility, and decided to keep the money making idea to herself.
3. Lurch; verb; to walk or move unsteadily and without stability; not being able to balance while
walking or moving all over the place; Sarah was completely intoxicated at the party last night. She
was lurching all over the place. Every five seconds she would bump into someone. While walking she
even spilled her drink on someone. Sarah proved to everyone that they should not drink too much or
else they would start lurching too.

In evaluating Question #3, we propose using Criteria #5: the Successful Implementation and
Operation of the Community School Team as the goal that is assessed by several subcomponents
including staff development, environment/climate, social science research and program administration
and organization standard. Each subcomponent has its own metrics that need to be met (see below).
The specific evaluation questions and indicators associated with each subcomponent are outlined in
the Evaluation Criteria Chart (Appendix L).

For Question #3, we use a variety of evaluation designs such as process [X/O], post treatment [X O]
and pretest/posttest [O1 X O2]. Each design is correlated with different evaluation subcomponents.
Staff Development
The design proposed to evaluate staff development is a process design using a convenience sample.
The methods associated with this component include a document review of professional development
meeting agendas, minutes and attendance sheets, a staff manual, completed personnel feedback forms,
staff evaluation, copies of resumes that align with job postings, and the number of professional
development hours and topics provided to staff. Most of this information will be obtained during site
visits in the fall and spring. Most of the documents required are also listed in the observation checklist
that evaluators should request during their site visits (Appendix E). The observation checklist was

specifically business level strategy (Chapter 5), with an additional focus on strategic implementation,
specifically entrepreneurial development (Chapters 12 13).
The case is written in a style that overviews the situation but intentionally avoids guiding students

Specific to the entrepreneurial challenges, the instructor also has the latitude to discuss the prospects
and problems that the firm would encounter in future in its growth endeavor. This could involve a
discussion on the various avenues of growth, the feasibility of the avenues, possible competitor
reaction and how the company could cope with it. This case can be used to demonstrate the difficulty
of introducing a new product to an already well established market, the challenges of being a small
player in a big market, and the challenges of expansion for a highly specialized product. The instructor
is free to choose the concepts to highlight from Chapters 12 and 13.
Synopsis
Dippin Dots is a 16 year old, over $36 million dollar company employing 160 people, and
headquartered in Paducah, Kentucky. The company s chief operation is the sale of Dippin Dots ice
cream to franchisees and national accounts throughout the world. Dippin Dots are tiny round beads of

Chinese Women In The Good Earth
The author of The Good Earth, Pearl S. Buck, ingeniously describes the traditions of a Chinese
woman in the early nineteenth century through the character O lan. It is traditional in the Chinese
culture to have the parents arrange the marriages for status purposes. During the marriage, the man
oversees all the decision making, while the woman must heed to whatever the husband instructs her to
do. O lan possess these characteristics, which constructs the ideal (perfect) Chinese woman. Instances
that portray this is when O lan marries Wang Lung and enters a farming life and bears two sons, Wang
Lung moves the family South, and takes a concubine later in his life, while O lan follows obediently.

Wang Lung becomes one of the wealthiest man in town and one day buys a concubine by the name,
Lotus. Gurisco mentions a story in her article about a Chinese woman by the name of Madame Zhang,
who cannot bear her husband any sons so her husband buys a concubine to bear his sons Many years
later, her husband takes a concubine, who has been a maid of the family, to have a son because she had
borne no child, except a daughter (Gurisco). In the Chinese culture buying a concubine to replace your
wife was standard, but does not make it none the less hurtful. As Lotus is with Wang Lung, Wang
Lung becomes more distant and cruel towards O lan. Especially the time when O lan receives two
small pearls that she requests from Wang Lung. Wang Lung takes them away from O lan and uses it
for Lotus. In this instance, Wang Lung loses love from O lan. O lan becomes just an obedient servant
more so than a wife. O lan never curses her husband, but instead continues to serve him. This is
essential to O lan s character because it shows strength and gives O lan a more human like quality.
Pearl S. Buck displays the character O lan as having complex emotions and having the character have
no freedom to voice her concerns, whereas if O lan was more modern O lan would can divorce her
husband, which Buck does not mention anything of divorce through the whole

The Impact Of The Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution was a period in the 18th century in Europe where and emphasis of mass
production using machinery were at a peak due to large numbers of factories and workers. The
Industrial Revolution allowed for innovation to spread rapidly throughout the 18th century in Britain
then throughout the rest of the world. Inventions such as the sewing machine, cotton gin, as well as the
telephone were invented during this time period. Modern society was then able to build upon the
strides made during this time to create the urban metropolises we see today. Without a period of
development for technology, the modern world would possible be in a farm based system where rural
agriculture is prominent as it was prior to machinery. But with speculation there is no true way to find
out what the impact of a world without the Industrial Revolution would look like. Despite goods being
made easily and quickly in factories, there were many negatives brought along with this that tainted
the image of the Industrial Revolution. As stated in document 2 the condition of these factories were
poor. Employees had to work in cluttered, unsanitary conditions for long hours. Despite working for
around 15+ hours per day, workers were paid inadequately. This caused parents to have their children
work in these unsanitary factories and mines to help support the family. This caused for them to be
delicate and sickly , but since more income was coming in, parents around Europe has more kids

INTRODUCTION
A wetland can be described as the place where land meets water. Wetlands can be permanent or
seasonal (Reddam s wetland is seasonal). Wetlands are different to other ecosystems because they
support aquatic flora and fauna. There are different types of wetlands including marshes, swamps,
bogs and fens.
Ecological status refers to the state in which a specific ecosystem is. The testing of a wetland s
ecological status refers to determining the health of the wetland with careful consideration of the
ecosystem involved. This can be determined by looking at the following: physical factors such as
temperature, water depth, hydrology and structure; biological factors such as birds, animals and
vegetation; chemical factors such as pH levels, turbidity and oxygen.
A healthy wetland is able to benefit its own ecosystem as well as the ecosystems surrounding the
wetland. A healthy wetland is able to support the flora and fauna within the ecosystem and still fulfil
its main function dependent on what type of wetland it is.

Logic and Perception Essay
Logic and Perception
A human s ability to think constitutes the human s ability to live. Though life can and does go on
without thought, thoughtless life would hold no meaning for most of us. Our thoughts fill our days and
give meaning and purpose to our days to come. Through perception, we become aware of our
environment through physical sensation (Merriam Webster, 1997, p.546). Every single experience and
observation, every smell and sound, that enters our mind through perception is then fused together and
associated with other related fusions to become thought, ...our very lives as we know them.
The ability to sift through our thoughts and peel away the individual facets of ... Show more content

Herein lays the real power of critical thinking. It seems to me that, logic, when applied to thoroughly
objective critical thoughts, will produce a correct and well founded answer.
Therein also lays the problem: thoroughly objective critical thoughts. Our open mindedness and
objectivity are too often undermined by personal barriers which stem from our exposure to cultural
and genetic forces (Kirby amp; Goodpaster, 1999, p. 13). These personal barriers include
enculturation, self concept, ego defenses, self serving biases, expectations, emotions, and stress,
among others. I have noticed that I tend to be most susceptible to enculturation and
expectations/schemata.
For example, I had never researched the role of the Pope before, and for that matter, I did not know
much about the Catholic Church either. I was raised Protestant, mostly Baptist and Methodist. Even
today, my family and I attend a Church of the Nazarene, which is somewhere in between the two. I
always subscribed to the ethnocentric idea that Protestant was right and Catholic was wrong, but not
because of any particular reason other than that this is what I was taught. If I were to be asked a
question like, What kind of role does the Pope play in the foreign affairs , I would have replied with a
quickness, none . Up until about two months ago, I thought that the Pope was simply a figurehead of
the Catholic Church, a figurative

Re: The Accounting Policies and Procedures
Purpose:
The purpose of the audit memo is to clarify the accounting policies and procedures used by clients and
the accounting policies and procedures that should be followed. The audit memorandum also provides
a clear explanation of a difference between the risk premium in discounting the free cash flow from
Plant 3 and the risk premium in discounting the cash flows for the Macinaw Division and which of the

An impairment loss is equal to the excess of the carrying amount over the fair value of the asset. Thus,
once it is determined that carrying value will not be recovered, an impairment loss must be recognized
. For purposes of testing for recoverability and measuring an impairment loss, individual long lived
assets should be grouped with other assets forming the lowest level for which identifiable cash flows
are largely independent of those of the entity s other assets. Note, though, that, if an impairment loss is
recognized, it should be applied only to the long lived assets in the group that are covered by FASB
ASC 360 10 ; thus, other assets in the group are not affected but should, if necessary, be adjusted for
impairment in accordance with other applicable GAAP. As defined in FASB ASC 350 10: Goodwill
should be part of an asset group to be tested for impairment only if the group is itself a reporting unit
or includes such a unit . Note that when we want to evaluate or compute the implied goodwill or test
goodwill impairment, we should include the combined net assets of Plant 3 which includes property,
plant and equipment. 8A Impairment or Disposal of Long Lived Assets (WG amp;L) provided relevant

Kids Of Helicopter Parents Are Sputtering Out
Dear Ms. Lythcott Haims, While I was reading your article, Kids of Helicopter Parents Are Sputtering
Out I was given a glimpse of how stressful it must be for students who have helicopter parents. Being
what you would call a free ranger myself, I had no problems with parental interference when it came
to my studies. In this letter to you I will strive to point out the strongest and weakest parts of your
article. You are able to use pathos, ethos and logos in several different ways to get your point across.
From what I could tell, the purpose of your article Kids of Helicopter Parents Are Sputtering Out was
to inform parents of the dangers helicopter parenting has on college student s mental health as well as
how it affects them in the long run. To summarize, College students who have helicopter parents lack
life skills which include effective decision making and problem solving. These students lack the
ability to interact properly with others also they lack emotional and intellectual freedom along with
executive functions. Additionally, they are unable to cope with any negative feelings and new
experiences and haven t been able to build resilience in these areas. Without these abilities they aren t
able to be a self sufficient adult or make any decision without involving their parent. The reference
material you use indicates helicopter parenting causes depression and anxiety and makes them unable
to have confidence in their own abilities which can also make them have

I Say The Rosary Research Paper
Nowadays, some people believe it is not important to pray the rosary anymore. The people that think
that are very wrong. Mary made fifteen promises that relate to people that say the rosary. These
promises are very important to everyone, in the church, and not in the church. A few of the promises
that are important to me in my life are some of the best things to live by in the world. One of these
promises is that Mary will give her special protection and the greatest graces to all those who say the
Rosary. This is important in my life because St. John Paul II is one of my biggest role models. He
trusted in Mary and prayed the Rosary all of the time. Because of this, he was saved when the assassin
shot him in 1981. It is said that because

Noah Bambach s While We Re Young
The work of art that I chose is a still from director Noah Baumbach from the film While We re Young
starring actor Ben Stiller. My initial reaction to this was how much different this film looks from
modern day filmmaking. This film was only released not too long ago, in 2015, but it was shot on
35mm film. Most new release films are shot on a digital format. The main reason for this is because of
how expensive it is to shoot a movie on traditional film. To put this into perspective, a 1,000 roll of
film is approximately $860.00, and a 1,000 roll of film will only shoot 11 minutes. Another big
advantage to shooting on digital is, digital is better for color work, something that just can t appear on
film. I also like traditional film for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s easy to tell due to the background light that it is daytime, possibly the morning. It looks like there
is a combination of warm and cool colors. The natural light coming in from the windows of the
vehicle shown in the foreground gives the image a warm, brighter color. The colors in the background
are cooler and gives a lighter feel to the image. In terms of mass, this is a three dimensional image.
You can tell because of what is shown in the background, middle ground, and foreground. The
background of this image would be the cars passing behind the vehicle in the image, the middle
ground would be the people in the vehicle, and the foreground shows us the GoPro camera and the
dashboard. I believe this image would be considered to be closed form because it is self contained, as
in the main scene takes place in the car alone and does not take up the outside space. When it comes to
the element of space, although it appears as if the actions in this photo interacts with real space, what
is taking place inside of the car is real, but everything surrounding the car is an illusion. Movies
almost never actually film a real car on a real road, everything behind the car in the picture is an
illusion and is created using a green screen effect. The exact term for how this works is called a
chroma key, which simply replaces a certain color that is either blue or green and replaces it with an
image. So essentially the actors and the vehicle are standing still, surrounded by a huge green screen
which was replaced by a video clip to give the illusion of

1.2.2 Post colonial education in Kenya (Neocolonialism)
Sifuna and Otiende (1992) noted that racial segregation was abolished in 1960 as the country moved
closer to independence. With the attainment of independence on 12th December, 1963; a ministry of
education was created. The school system in Kenya was brought under a localized standard
curriculum and public examinations. Since independence, the Government has addressed challenges
facing the education sector through Commissions, Committees and Taskforces.
The first Commission, after independence, came up with the Report of the Kenya Education
Commission (The Ominde Report, 1964) that sought to reform the education system inherited from
the colonial government to make it more responsive to the needs of independent Kenya. The
Commission proposed an education system that would foster national unity and the creation of
sufficient human capital for national development. Sessional Paper No: 10 of 1965 on African
Socialism and its Application to Planning in Kenya formally adopted the Ominde

Things Done Well During The Presentation
Things done well
During the presentation there were examples provided from the textbook to allow the trainees to
capture what was being presented and said. This allowed for them to see what was being taught. It was
also helpful that there were examples provided during the presentation to allow for a real life
experiences in the workforce, making everything more relatable to each individual in its own unique
way. There were also instances where trainees were asked questions and to engage them throughout
the process of training. This would allow them to constantly think, especially when there were pop
quizzes throughout. Trainees were also able to ask questions during the entire presentation, allowing
for people to have their answers answered at any point. In order for this to succeed we had to prepare
beforehand so that the questions would be answered as effectively and as clearly as they could.
Having handouts that had the slides with room to write notes on the side allowed the audience to make
notes and to write ideas. We also provide quizzes that were interactive throughout the presentation on
the slides. This allowed us to ask the question, and afterwards there were animations that showed the
audience which answer was the right one. It was a little bit of a learning curve, but it was done clearly
and effectively after some research had been performed. By implanting new ideas into presentations, it
not only allows the presenters to learn something new, but it also

The Border Patrol and their agents border the boundaries of America so we can be safe in our homes.
People don t realize how important any kind of law enforcement is, until the day that they need

The U.S. Border Patrol started its service for our nation in 1924. Even though some changes have
affected every aspect of the operations from its early days, the values, professionalism, honor,
integrity, and respect helped shape the Border Patrol from the early years and they still remain the
same today. Since the very beginning agents have been patrolling our borders, Mounted watchmen of
the U.S. Immigration Service patrolled the border in an effort to prevent illegal crossings as early as
1904 (Border Patrol History, web). The agent s efforts were undertaken only when resources
permitted. The inspectors were all out of El Paso, Texas, Though they never totaled more than seventy
five, they patrolled as far west as California trying to restrict the flow of illegal Chinese immigration
(Border Patrol History, web). In 1915, Congress approved a separate group of Mounted Guards. Most
rode on horseback, but a few operated cars and boats. Although these inspectors had broader arrest
authority, they still largely pursued Chinese immigrants trying to avoid the Chinese exclusion laws.
The agents were immigrant inspectors, assigned to inspection stations, and could not watch the border
at all times, Texas Rangers were also often assigned to patrol duties by the state, and their efforts were
noted as singularly effective (Border Patrol History, web). Customs violations and intercepting
communications to the enemy seemed to be a concern than

Strategic Planning And The Annual Budgeting Cycle
Strategic planning is done with the 3 to 5 year roadmap, identifying the opportunities to improve the
top line (business /premium growth) or bottom line (expense savings) Operational efficiency. The
projects are identified through Strategic Planning and are then funded through the annual budgeting
cycle. These annual budgets are based on the business performance for the prior years. Large strategic
projects, also known as Level 1 initiatives, which span multiple years, are funded separately through a
Corporate Budget.
Once the budget for the year is decided, The Hartford also have a Steering committee (For large
initiatives) and a Maintenance council (for medium sized enhancements) that takes the further
function of prioritization of different initiatives and keeping track of the budget.
IT Governance
IT Infrastructure updates warranted by the implementation of large key initiatives are funded and
governed as part of the overall IT Project governance. Infrastructure upgrades are treated as Reverse
Demand and implemented as part of the technical upgrade. These projects are funded through the IT
architecture budget.
The business projects e.g. product development, pricing initiatives, profitability modeling etc. are
initiated by the business leads. The business leads prepare a business case detailing the project
including the business benefits. These projects are then presented to the Portfolio Council, which
approves or denies the initial request. Once approved, if there is

Food Waste In Australia
The issue of food waste within Australia is a large issue. The issue this investigation focuses on is the
amount of food we waste as a nation and then formulating a conclusion to reduce the amount or
prevent the damages it is now causing.
The aim of the investigation is to determine why so much food is being wasted within Australia and
how bad is it affecting the environment we live in. This is a concern to the environment and to us as
civilians who are occupying the land. Money is being wasted on food that we as a nation are not
consuming. There are multiple ways that this could be reduced so why aren t we?
The questions that unpin the investigation are the following:

Food waste causes a large amount of environmental issues. These are caused by the loss of natural
resources which are in the production of food.
Hospitality food waste has a major economic impact due to the cost of disposal and the profit loss that
s caused by throwing away the consumable and sellable food. Food that is wasted generally goes to
landfill. Organic landfill creates Methane which is a massive 25 more potent then carbon dioxide.
Most of the waste that s disposed is organic waste which creates methane.
Approximately 23 percent of Australia s greenhouse gas emissions were made by the national food
supply chain. Coal fired power stations come after them.
Natural resources are used in the production of produce, harvest, transport, process, packaging, and
the distribution of the product. A vast amount of water is particularly used in the growth of fruits,
vegetables, cereals, and grains and to support livestock. When food is wasted the energy and resources
used into producing those products are also wasted.
The negative environmental issues can t be stopped, however they can be reduced. There are several
solutions to waste problems but the first step is to reduce the amount being

Pros And Cons Of Serial Killers
Every decade brings a new Eureka! In the 70s, we became convinced that urban poverty caused
violence. In the 80s, it was all due to mental illness, and in the 90s substance abuse was definitely the
culprit. Now it s malfunctioning brains that are to blame (Edersheim, Price, and Smoller).
What defines a serial killer? According to the FBI, a serial killer is someone who commits at least
three murders over more than a month with an emotional cooling off period in between (Brogaard).
With this in mind, people like Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, and Jeffrey Dahmer are serial killers.
What makes them this way? Is it genetics or is it the fact that their childhood was a nightmare? The
debate amongst scientists for years doesn t have an answer. There is plenty of evidence to support that
fact that most serial killers are missing a certain enzyme in their body that dwindles their empathy
senses. There is also plenty of facts about real life killers that show that environment and upbringing is
what ruins them, and turns them from a happy child to the deranged adult they become. Serial killers
are born and made because of genetics and the environment. Serial killers are born due to a gene and
enzyme that affects the brain. This gene is called the warrior gene. The so called warrior gene
comprises particular variations in the X chromosome gene that produces monoamine oxidase A
(MAOA), an enzyme that affects the neurotransmitters dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin

How Did John Deere Make The Cast-Iron Plows
The first real practicable plow was invented by Charles Newbold, and his cast iron version of the plow
was patented in 1797. It was disliked by many farmers in the area because they believed it allowed the
weeds to flourish. As other inventors built new ideas of the plows, these farmers got rid of their former
views and began using the plow. The cast iron plows were good for the light, sandy soils of the East
Coast, but they were very sluggish in the thick soil of Illinois ( Just ). John Deere introduced a tool of
agriculture, the self scouring plow, that would become a booming manufacturing business for many
years to come. John Deere was born in Vermont in 1804 to William and Sarah Deere. His father had

Canadian War Museum Exhibition Analysis
Introduction: The Canadian War Museum provides an exhibition specifically on ways in which
women lives were transiting throughout the First and Second World War. The exhibition laid many
artifacts which came from women, such as photographs, voice overs, diaries, and souvenirs. The
artifacts played a prominent role in understanding the experience of the World Wars from a woman
point of view. The artifacts provide an understanding of the stories that women were facing challenges
with. The challenges allowed women to grow and show what they are capable of. Since men were
occupied fighting with their allies women took control and started participating and working. The

The Politics of Criminal Organizations Essay
Criminal organizations penetrate democratic mechanisms and their systems of representation. Votes
are extorted with threats and violence or Wheedled out of citizens in exchange for different kinds of
incentives. Political Parties rely heavily on external funding. This dependence inevitably makes them
susceptible to corruption (Allum and Siebert 2003). Accordingly, It is common to secure a number of
votes in exchange for favors, Such as contracts for public works, promoting and scuttling legislation,
Patronage, etc. (ibid.) All the regional commission of the Mafia has to Do is to instruct which party to

In its most advanced form, organized crime is so thoroughly integrated into the economic, political,
and social institutions of legitimate society that it may no longer be recognizable as a criminal
enterprise. In the Most extreme cases, infiltration of politics by organized crime may lead to mixing
among a country s political and criminal elites to the point Where OCG are able to wield political
power. Van Dijk points out that in many parts of the world, grand corruption and organized crime are
two Sides of the same coin. The relationship between organized crime and Politics can be seen as a
system interaction : the interaction between a Representative of a criminal sub system, i.e. a Mafioso,
and a politician from the political sub system. Godson (2006) also points out that When political
establishment knowingly and regularly does business with gang leaders, or when professional
Criminals are actually elected to power, as has happened in Sicily and Taiwan, the distinction
(between the political establishments and the criminal underworld) is less straightforward.

Analysis:
Drug release data for curcumin was fitted into 5 mathematical models and studied to determine the
best mathematical model. The model chosen were:
i. Zero Order Kinetics
The zero order kinetics depends upon the initial concentration of the drug loaded on the nanoparticles
and refers to constant release of drug5,6. Zero order kinetics is represented as:
Qt=Qo+k*t
Qt = amount of drug dissolved in time t, Qo=initial amount of drug, k=zero order kinetics constant
ii. First Order Kinetics
The release of the drug which followed first order kinetics can be expressed by the equation7: log C =
log C0 Kt / 2.303
Co is the initial concentration of drug, k is the first order rate constant, and t is the time
iii. Hixon Crowell Release Kinetics
Hixson and Crowell derived the equation: Q01/3 Qt1/3 = κ*t where Q0 is the initial amount of drug,
Qt is the remaining amount of drug at time t and κ (kappa) constant incorporates surface volume
relation. The equation describes the release from systems where there is a change in surface area and
diameter of particles or tablets9.
iv. Higuchi Release Kinetics
Higuchi drug release kinetics model was proposed Higuchi in 1961 based on a matrix system8. The
matrix model is based on initial drug concentration in the, instantaneous drug

Factors Influencing The Factor Analysis
Factor analysis According to Maria Eva, the factor analysis is a technique in the statistics to observe
variability in the correlated variables in terms of lowers number of unobserved variables, which is
necessary for factorization (Maria Eva, 2012). Dehak, Kenn, Dehak, Dumouchel, Ouellet, further
stated that, the factor analysis is useful technique to investigate the relationship between the variables
in complex concepts and the main purpose of the factor analysis is to reduce the number of variables
associated with the measure and to detect the structures of the relationship between the variables
(Dehak, Kenn, Dehak, Dumouchel, Ouellet, 2011) .
The application of factor analysis widely used in social research (Steinfeld, Navon, Creech, Yakhini,
Tsalenko, 2014). The current study employs factor analysis to reduce the items in the questionnaire for
data reduction as per the recommendations of In addition, the factor analysis is used to construct the
factor based on the items in the scale (Wang Ahmed, 2004). Hence, the factor analysis is used for data
reduction and structuring the variables. Factor analysis has two types as discussed below, exploratory
and confirmatory factor analysis (Costello Osborne, 2005).
Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) Costello Osborne, (2005) said that, factor analysis is used to
uncover the structure of relatively large set of variables in the data(Costello Osborne, 2005). EFA

As stated previously, stroke occurs due to inadequate blood flow to the brain which results in cell

Billy The Bully
Billy the Bully Introduction Early on a Saturday morning I was hurrying down the street to buy a

ginger scone and on the way back home I looked across the street and saw a boy from my class
pushing another younger boy. It was Billy, who was big for his size, pushing another kid and

our bread box and went to my room to finish my math and science homework. My

They each show different forms of masculinity and what these different roles signify in Latin American society. There are many narrative differences in these two films and those differences effect how the point of the films get across. First, starting with Strawberry and Chocolate or (Fresa y chocolate). This film takes place in Havana, Cuba in 1979 during the Castro regime. It was released in 1994 post soviet union and critiques the bureaucracy of Castro regime. They are violent and their bodies are also shown but in a more rugged dangerous way. Ramiro is disrespectful to women and those around him. He is viewed in the camera from below in a power position. He is abusive to Susana and is nice only when he wants sex. Jarocho is also disrespectful to those around him and is seen as a leader. In the second story of Daniel and Valeria, Daniel is upper class who left his wife and kids for a model. He buys her a new apartment. She goes to get wine to celebrate and that is how she ends up in the path of the car crash. This causes her to lose her leg and her career. Daniel is first seen as a caring family man although that changes when we find out he is having an affair. This affair defines his masculinity however because he is doing what is a stereotype of most upper class men. He is trading up and getting himself a younger, hotter trophy wife. He is still however shown in a caring way because he cooks for Valeria and takes care of her after she loses her leg although her appeal is gone. His masculinity starts spiraling down and he is conflicted after ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Copyright Laws Protect Intellectual Property Copyright laws are intended to protect the intellectual properties of writers, musicians, artists, and others. In order for a work to be copyrightable, it must be both tangible, or fixed, and original. There have been many changes made to copyright law throughout time, however, each change has been made in order to further protect a person s intellectual property. In order for a work be eligible to be copyrighted it must fall into one of seven tangible or fixed categories. These categories include literary works, audio visual works, sound recordings, musicals, pantomimes or choreography, pictorial/graphic/sculptural representations, and dramatic works. • 5. Study Of The Airline Industry Resilience And The Terrorist... Finally, Company Size, Industry, Company Ownership, Organizational Design (Czinkota et al., 2010), and Firm Age are introduced in the model to control for factors beyond relationships that could influence the dependent variable of performance resilience. Data Analysis The research method relies upon the general methodological framework used by Gittell et al. (2006) in the study of the airlines industry resilience to the terrorist attacks of 9/11. This exploratory archival data analysis employs quantitative statistical techniques from the terrorism and international business literature stream. Initially, correlation analysis between the operationalized independent variables, moderating variables, control variables and the dependent variable will be conducted, using Pearson Correlation Coefficients as a measure, to identify and evaluate non causal associations and strengths of relationships between variables. In addition, scatterplots would be created of the variables to determine whether linear relationships exist. An analysis of variance (ANOVA) would be used as the general structure for statistical testing of the conceptual model, shown in Figure 4, using the F test. Moreover, the F test would be an initial overall inference test of the operationalized conceptual model. Furthermore, collinearity diagnostics tests for multi collinearity on the independent and moderating variables will be performed using Variance Inflation Factors as a gauge to assess any overlap or ... Early in the pregnancy you hear the worst, your baby has a fatal disease. The two of you are terribly heart broken over the situation. An important element, actually one of the most important elements is the identification and cloning of the gene or genes related to the disease, which is going to be maintained or treated by gene therapy. However, gene therapy should not be confused with the concept of cloning. Cloning is creating another individual with essentially the same genetic makeup. The idea of cloning an entire human is very different from gene therapy. Next the expression and efficiency of gene transfer during gene therapy must be emphasized. Scientists involved with gene therapy research are currently trying to discover the best rates of gene transfer and tissue specific gene expression. Gene therapy research is still in the formative stages. Although a number of early human clinical trials have been initiated to test important concepts that have emerged. The genes we inherit from our parents virtually affect every human disease. The argument for gene therapy lies in the understanding of the genetic basis of human disease. There are an amazing 100,000 individual genes in the human genome. At the present time there is an international movement known as the Human Genome Project. The project will eventually provide an understanding of how each gene plays a role in human lives. The project ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Background One of the most common criticisms of atheism is that life can have no meaning without God belief. I ve always found this argument puzzling, because even if true, it does absolutely nothing to prove the existence of God. What the believer is saying is that God belief gives him or her the feeling that life has meaning. Well, that s great, but your feelings don t prove anything. There are indicators, however, that atheism is growing and is more widespread than the media and in fact, there are more than half of the world s population, and more than 90% of the world s scientists, do not believe in a personal God. • 9. Gender Wage Gap Analysis Throughout history there have been many inequalities between men and women. The most recent inequality is the gender wage gap. Despite the efforts women have made to create equal opportunity, women are still valued less than men. For example, women s work performance is not valued as highly as men s and a woman s median annual income is 20% less than a man s (Miller, C). Even in jobs with similar responsibilities, the pay still differs, the median earnings of information technology managers (mostly men) are 27 percent higher than human resources managers (mostly women) .... janitors (usually men) earn 22 percent more than maids and housecleaners (usually women) (Miller, C). Individuals in power have a greater influence on society and considering that men dominate the corporate world, men have the power to impact women s wages (Johnson). Mary made fifteen promises that relate to people that say the rosary. These promises are very important to everyone, in the church, and not in the church. A few of the promises that are important to me in my life are some of the best things to live by in the world. One of these promises is that Mary will give her special protection and the greatest graces to all those who say the Rosary. This is important in my life because St. John Paul II is one of my biggest role models. He trusted in Mary and prayed the Rosary all of the time. My initial reaction to this was how much different this film looks from modern day filmmaking. This film was only released not too long ago, in 2015, but it was shot on 35mm film. Most new release films are shot on a digital format. The main reason for this is because of how expensive it is to shoot a movie on traditional film. To put this into perspective, a 1,000 roll of film is approximately $860.00, and a 1,000 roll of film will only shoot 11 minutes. Another big advantage to shooting on digital is, digital is better for color work, something that just can t appear on film. I also like traditional film for ... The natural light coming in from the windows of the vehicle shown in the foreground gives the image a warm, brighter color. The colors in the background are cooler and gives a lighter feel to the image. In terms of mass, this is a three dimensional image. You can tell because of what is shown in the background, middle ground, and foreground. The background of this image would be the cars passing behind the vehicle in the image, the middle ground would be the people in the vehicle, and the foreground shows us the GoPro camera and the dashboard. I believe this image would be considered to be closed form because it is self contained, as in the main scene takes place in the car alone and does not take up the outside space. When it comes to the element of space, although it appears as if the actions in this photo interacts with real space, what is taking place inside of the car is real, but everything surrounding the car is an illusion. Movies almost never actually film a real car on a real road, everything behind the car in the picture is an illusion and is created using a green screen effect. The exact term for how this works is called a chroma key, which simply replaces a certain color that is either blue or green and replaces it with an image. So essentially the actors and the vehicle are standing still, surrounded by a huge green screen which was replaced by a video clip to give the illusion of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Things Done Well During The Presentation Things done well During the presentation there were examples provided from the textbook to allow the trainees to capture what was being presented and said. This allowed for them to see what was being taught. It was also helpful that there were examples provided during the presentation to allow for a real life experiences in the workforce, making everything more relatable to each individual in its own unique way. There were also instances where trainees were asked questions and to engage them throughout the process of training. This would allow them to constantly think, especially when there were pop quizzes throughout. Trainees were also able to ask questions during the entire presentation, allowing for people to have their answers answered at any point. In order for this to succeed we had to prepare beforehand so that the questions would be answered as effectively and as clearly as they could. Having handouts that had the slides with room to write notes on the side allowed the audience to make notes and to write ideas. We also provide quizzes that were interactive throughout the presentation on the slides. This allowed us to ask the question, and afterwards there were animations that showed the audience which answer was the right one. It was a little bit of a learning curve, but it was done clearly and effectively after some research had been performed. Even though some changes have affected every aspect of the operations from its early days, the values, professionalism, honor, integrity, and respect helped shape the Border Patrol from the early years and they still remain the same today. Since the very beginning agents have been patrolling our borders, Mounted watchmen of the U.S. Immigration Service patrolled the border in an effort to prevent illegal crossings as early as 1904 (Border Patrol History, web). The agent s efforts were undertaken only when resources permitted. The inspectors were all out of El Paso, Texas, Though they never totaled more than seventy five, they patrolled as far west as California trying to restrict the flow of illegal Chinese immigration (Border Patrol History, web). In 1915, Congress approved a separate group of Mounted Guards. Most rode on horseback, but a few operated cars and boats. Although these inspectors had broader arrest authority, they still largely pursued Chinese immigrants trying to avoid the Chinese exclusion laws. The agents were immigrant inspectors, assigned to inspection stations, and could not watch the border at all times, Texas Rangers were also often assigned to patrol duties by the state, and their efforts were noted as singularly effective (Border Patrol History, web). • 35. Pros And Cons Of Serial Killers Every decade brings a new Eureka! In the 70s, we became convinced that urban poverty caused violence. In the 80s, it was all due to mental illness, and in the 90s substance abuse was definitely the culprit. Now it s malfunctioning brains that are to blame (Edersheim, Price, and Smoller). What defines a serial killer? According to the FBI, a serial killer is someone who commits at least three murders over more than a month with an emotional cooling off period in between (Brogaard). With this in mind, people like Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, and Jeffrey Dahmer are serial killers. What makes them this way? Is it genetics or is it the fact that their childhood was a nightmare? The debate amongst scientists for years doesn t have an answer. There is plenty of evidence to support that fact that most serial killers are missing a certain enzyme in their body that dwindles their empathy senses. There is also plenty of facts about real life killers that show that environment and upbringing is what ruins them, and turns them from a happy child to the deranged adult they become. Serial killers are born and made because of genetics and the environment. Serial killers are born due to a gene and enzyme that affects the brain. This gene is called the warrior gene. The so called warrior gene comprises particular variations in the X chromosome gene that produces monoamine oxidase A (MAOA), an enzyme that affects the neurotransmitters dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin (Powledge) ... In the Most extreme cases, infiltration of politics by organized crime may lead to mixing among a country s political and criminal elites to the point Where OCG are able to wield political power. Van Dijk points out that in many parts of the world, grand corruption and organized crime are two Sides of the same coin. The relationship between organized crime and Politics can be seen as a system interaction : the interaction between a Representative of a criminal sub system, i.e. a Mafioso, and a politician from the political sub system. Factors Influencing The Factor Analysis Factor analysis According to Maria Eva, the factor analysis is a technique in the statistics to observe variability in the correlated variables in terms of lowers number of unobserved variables, which is necessary for factorization (Maria Eva, 2012). Dehak, Kenn, Dehak, Dumouchel, Ouellet, further stated that, the factor analysis is useful technique to investigate the relationship between the variables in complex concepts and the main purpose of the factor analysis is to reduce the number of variables associated with the measure and to detect the structures of the relationship between the variables (Dehak, Kenn, Dehak, Dumouchel, Ouellet, 2011) .
