marketing research for Barkley Foods, had just left an emergency meeting with the п¬Ѓrm s
president. An opportunity to buy an established line of gourmet (high quality/high priced) frozen
dinners had arisen. Because there were other interested buyers, a decision had to be made within
three or four weeks. This decision depended on judgments about the future prospects of the gourmet
frozen dinner market and whether Barkley could achieve a competitive advantage. The marketing
research group was asked to provide as much useful information as possible within a 10 day period.

Its largest product areas were canned tomato products, frozen orange juice, cake mixes, and yogurt.
Barkley was known to have strengths in operations (product preparation), distribution (obtaining
distribution and managing the shelves), and advertising. Their brands typically held a solid second
place position in the supermarket. There was no effort at umbrella brand identification, so each
product area was carried by its own brand. Joyce Stevenson had previously been in strategic
planning, and reviewed the type of information and analysis that would be required to support a
strategic decision like this one. She wrote down the following four sets of questions to guide the
thinking of the research group: 1. Market analysis в– What are the size, current growth rate, and
projected growth rate of the industry and its relevant subsets (such as ethnic dinners) for the next
п¬Ѓve and ten years? в– What are the important industry trends? в– What are the emerging
production technologies? в– What are the distribution trends? в– What are current and future
success factors (a competitive skill or asset needed to compete successfully)? 2. Environmental
analysis в– What demographic, cultural, economic, or governmental trends or events could create
strategic threats or opportunities? в– What major environmental scenarios (plausible stories about
the future) can be conceived? 3. Customer analysis в– What are the major segments? в– What are
their motivations and unmet

The Man In The Dead Machine Summary
In the poem The Man in the Dead Machine, Donald Hall uses vivid imagery and alternative
scenarios to emphasize the sheer overwhelming specter of death that loomed over those serving in
the greatest conflict known to man. The hook that Hall uses to initially provoke the readers interest
is the mentioning of the Grumman Hellcat, a fighter plane used by Americans in World War II.
Specifying the model of the fighter plane allows the reader to be knowledgeable about the setting
of the poem. The meaning of this poem focuses on the destructivity wartime causes on the life of
those in service. The main focal point Hall emphasizes throughout his poem is the uncertainty of
life and death. However, other important targets of this poem are suicide... Show more content on

Throughout this poem there are multiple ways Hall connects the poem to its core meaning.
Located within the title, the word dead is used to describe the machine. Being dead is the
ultimate end of a life and that uncertainty of death sparks fear among many people. The inclusion
of this certain word is used to set the tone of the poem as dark and gloomy and obtain the readers
interest. Another method used by Hall to convey the theme of death was through imagery. The
entire second stanza is a description of the pilot s skeleton strapped within the crashed plane.
Having such a graphic image portrayed, Hall is able to essentially shock his reader with the
gruesomeness that death produces. One of the last things the reader may decipher from this
poem is that life, just like war, is a trap. Within the third stanza, the pilot is said to be taking a
train to work and is held/ by the firm webbing of the train. The webbing infers that the pilot,
although not trapped in his plane, is trapped in the roles put forth by society. Throughout Halls
poem, many different ideas and topics can be deduced but the uncertainty of life and death stands
out as the main focal point. To emphasize the fragileness of life and death, Hall begins the poem
with a story of death and in the last stanza switches his perspective to the possible life the pilot
could have had if he survived. A topic vaguely brought up in this poem would be

Perfect Gifts and Holiday Cheer Essay

Obese couples drag around obese children and even more obese shopping bags, holding plastic

Cdc Risk Factors
Most risk factors associated with the development of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are
interconnected. For example, an obese person is more likely to have other conditions such as
high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and diabetes. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
CDC (2015) reports that some risk factors are modifiable such as smoking, and diet, while others
are non modifiable such as age and family history. Approximately 47% of all Americans have at
least one of the three major risk factors for CVD; high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and
smoking (CDC, 2015).
Diet intake is one of the risk factor that can be modified. High cholesterol which refers to low

Persuasive Essay On Relationships
It starts the moment we come to this world. Thousands of people around us that we re get to
interact with throughout our lives. Whether it s our families, friends, co workers, or even
acquaintances, we always strive to create a perfect and unique relationship with others without
really knowing what it actually needs to do that. According to the Dunbar s theory, even though
we might meet hundreds of people on a daily basis, we can only maintain a stable relationship
with only 150 individuals, and only 5 of which will be best friends, or people to whom we hold the
most meaning. Developing a good relationship cannot in anyway be done by following a series of
easy steps, rather it takes a complex group of actions on all levels to happen.... Show more content

Also, listening to their opinions and thoughts will lead to a healthy relationship because the two
sides in a relationship complement each other. Giving your honest opinion will earn you trust in
your relationship, but it s very important to make sure that you use the appropriate wording so that
you don t hurt your partner s feelings. Talking negatively to your partner can frustrate them drive
them into thinking that you no longer wish to proceed in the relation. Respecting others also means
respecting their privacy, this is very important because it makes them feel safe around you, and it
makes them trust you. Furthermore, the two sides in a relation shall respect each other s properties.
Expressing gratitude and appreciativeness in a relationship is very necessary since it generates a
sense of harmony and acceptance between the sides involved in the relation. Also, appreciation
gives a lot of positivity into the relationship and allows the relation to grow and develop, and it
establishes confidence and trust between partners. Being thankful to your partner makes them feel
that you re appreciating what they re doing for you, and it encourages them to continue doing. It
also results in your partner appreciating what you are doing for them and how much you care
about them. Moreover, appreciation is a great way to show respect to your

Prison Reform in America
For many years now, the criminal justice system has become stricter, causing more and more
people to be arrested and sentenced to prison. As prisons become more occupied, the living
conditions, health, and treatment of prisoners starts to deteriorate, which has become a trend over
the last few decades. However, President Obama has noticed this prison environment and has taken
a stand in saying that something needs to be done about it. Though many people would argue that
prison reform is unnecessary because prisoners deserve to be treated poorly, there is sufficient
evidence that shows that the current conditions end up doing more harm mentally and physically to
the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is unnecessary for many of these criminals to be held in prison since there isn t any room for
them in the first place. One way that the federal prison system can ease the overcrowding problem
would be to simply release the non violent criminals back into society with a fine or on probation.
The overcrowding that is contained within many prisons causes the facilities to become more and
more inhumane with the number of prisoners added each year. Many prisons suffer from lack of
resources for their inmates such as proper medical facilities, extra prison cells, and resources to
reduce idleness, which causes the conditions of the prisons and the treatment of the prisoners to
worsen. With overcrowding, prisoners become victims of unconstitutional treatment, and many will
suffer and die if this chronic overcrowding continues (Mayeux 9). Though many people would
argue that prisoners deserve the harsh conditions that come with overcrowded prisons, they need to
remember that prisoners are people too and are subject to the same natural rights as every American
citizen, including the eighth amendment which declares no cruel or unusual punishment (Brown v.
Plata 1). The supreme court case Brown v. Plata actually states that the overcrowded population of
prisons is a violation of one s constitutional rights (Brown v. Plata 1). But overcrowding doesn t just
effect prisoners, it also

sharks. These sharks are usually very large and can swim really fast. The genus is the group before
the species which includes other sharks that are very similar to the white shark. The species is the
last group, which contains the Latin name of the specific organism. Through taxonomy, scientists
are easily able to identify and classify species.
White sharks are usually found in oceans worldwide. They tend to appear more in cool temperate
and tropical waters. Also, some are usually found near islands with high populations of seals. They
spread throughout the world. Some of the places they are found in are along the coastline of South

When people go on a trip to the zoo, it can be assumed that they do not think about much more than
what they can see. Signals that make zoos unfair and sometimes unbearable for the captive animals
are not visible to most spectators. This essay will explain how zoos are unjust and should not be
supported. Animals should not be held captive due their negative behavioral changes, lack of
natural habitat and the zoos failure to effectively preserve endangered species.
Even though zoos try to imitate the natural habitat of each animal, the area for the zoo might not be
able to support the animals needed environment. When visiting a zoo many people fail to notice

When introduced with stress animals act strangely, and their actions are visible to zoo visitors,
but viewers are not aware of why they are doing these things. According to PETA (People for the
Ethical Treatment of Animals), when animals pace from side to side, walk in circles, lick their
bars, roll their heads, and rock back and forth, they are under severe stress. Most captive animals
also perform acts of self mutilation, and eat their own feces. There are even some cases of
stillbirths caused by stressful conditions. Animals who naturally live in large herds should not be
housed alone, and solitary animals should not be kept in groups. These situations also create
unhappiness in captive animals. Zoo animals living under anxiety and tension also add to the
difficulties of conserving species.
Zoos claim to conserve species, but they frequently fall short on this promise. The zoo industry
rationalizes the caging and breeding of animals by claiming that zoos enhance conservation efforts,
but the facts do not back up this claim. According to a joint report by the World Society for the
Protection of Animals and the Born Free Foundation, with the best will in the world, and even with
all their combined resources, zoos cannot hope to save more than a few of the animal species that
are doomed to become extinct within the next decade (Laws). According to PETA, reintroductions

Why Is Harvard So Important To Faber
Faber is an old, retired college professor, and as he has confessed, ...a coward. I saw the way
things were going, a long time back. I said nothing. I m one of the innocents who could have
spoken up and out when no one would listen to the guilty , but I did not speak and thus guilty
myself , (79). It is true that because of this cowardice, he often misses out and makes unwise
actions. This is shown when Montag went to Faber with his plan but refused to help until after
Montag began to rip pages out of the bible. For this reason, the phrase, Now, it s too late (79),
seems to really go hand in hand with Faber. In contrast, Montag seems to be more brave in his

That is that they are both dedicated to sparking a change in their society, even though Montag

for change to take place. Faber has shown an intention of speaking out against these unjust
actions of burning books, but something always got in the way. That day in the park when we
sat together, I knew that someday you might drop by, with fire or friendship.. (88), is an
example of this planning. It can also be said that Faber and Montag are both lonely. Montag feels
ostracized from his wife and the other firefighters, and has lost Clarisse, admitting to Faber that
Nobody listens anymore, (79). Also, when Faber shows Montag the seashell like invention, he
adds that he has been waiting forever to use it, for someone to help aid in his plan, since there
was nothing else in his life that he could do except wait half a lifetime for someone to speak to me ,

The Impact Of Digital Distraction In The College Classroom
Digital Distraction in the College Classroom
Digital distraction is the addiction that one has to the internet, their phone or any form of digital
technology. This is constantly becoming a bigger problem in this day and age as technology is
advancing and new electronics are constantly being released. These nonstop advancements are
having a big impact on education, especially in the college classroom. Being digitally distracted
can do a lot to a person, considering the fact that the phone and internet have become a huge form
of pleasure for many. Being digitally distracted can make a person lazy and careless and when it is
happening in the college classroom, it gets in the way of learning. Digital distraction is being seen
everywhere nowadays, but one of the places that is has the biggest impact is the college class
because it inhibits learning not just for the user, but for the people around them too. Due to this
rise in technology, millennials have been dubbed digital natives for their comfort with and
addiction to devices like smartphones (Gose). This is something that needs to be fixed because it
causes things such as, the students not listening and missing their professor s instructions, leading
to bad grades and habits, distracts others, and can cause overall laziness. Although technology has
become an on growing problem in the class there are some solutions to solving this issue such as

The Simple Gift
Understanding nourishes belonging... a lack of understanding prevents it.
Demonstrate how your prescribed text and ONE other related text of your own choosing represent
this interpretation of belonging.
Belonging is primarily about acceptance and developing a connection and identity. Belonging
implies an understanding of the needs of the individual and the group and negotiating a way
towards acceptance of those needs. Conversely, exclusion emerges when the individual and the
group fail to understand each other. Steven Herrick s The Simple Gift is the story of three
protagonists who develop friendships and ultimately change their perceptions of self.

Herrick shows that a relationship has centred Billy. His life has direction, routine and meaning.
Billy s identity at first was seen as a loner, he was isolated and a rebel. His mother was absent and
his relationship with his father was intimidating. The lack of connection to family extends to
Old Bill, whose daughter and wife died, and to Freya and Danny, who do not have the guidance
of responsible adults. Herrick symbolises his disconnection and loneliness in I didn t go inside
for hours./I looked through the back window/watching him/reading the paper/in front of the
television/as if nothing happened . Billy s sense of belonging allows him to reforms his identity.
Herrick shows this by juxtaposing Billy eating like a hobo in the first person narration in And
wait for the family of five to leave. / I can see dessert/ waiting for me and later eating like a refined
mature adult via the descriptive language in with a white tablecloth/and napkins/ and proper cutlery
and plates. Comparatively, Freya grows up after Danny helps her deal with her miscarriage. This
highlights that a person s identity is defined by their connection to others. Both composers show an
understanding of each other, allow them to nourish one another.
Belonging is as a complex process by which people develop links with others, places and things. It
is focused on acceptance and developing a connection and identity

on self control. In my research, I want to see if there is a dif ference between introverted and
extroverted people in choosing delayed gratification. My hypotheses is that the more introversion a
human shows the more likely they choose delayed gratification.

(1972) set the framework in the field of self control by executing a simple experiment known as
the marshmallow test . The participating children received a choice. They were left alone in a
room with a plate of treats. If the child awaited the return of the researcher, they were given two
sweets but if they were not able to wait, they had to ring a bell which told the researcher to return
immediately. If the bell was rung, the child would only get one treat instead of two. This
experiment led Mischel to introduce the hot and cold system, an explanation for the human ability
to delay gratification. While the cold system is said to be reflective and responsible for us holding
back, the hot system is the impulsive one, making us want the instant

Play Summary Of The Play Los Vendidos By Luis Valdez
Los Vendidos was written by Luis Valdez in 1967, the play tells us issues that Mexican Americans
faced throughout history. Los Vendidos translates to The Sold Ones, which interpreters Valdez s
opinion on Mexican s conformity to the American culture. The play defines four different versions
of Mexican men. The farmworker, Johnny Pachuco, The Revolucionario, and the Mexican
American. Luis Valdez addresses through humor the stereotypes and historical struggles that
Mexican Americans faced in 1967. Although the play was written almost half a century ago I
believe it s still relevant today.
We make assumptions about people, we label and categorize the world, putting people into little
groups. In the play Los Vendidos we can see four different types of Mexican stereotypes.... Show

The secretary asks for a Mexican who is dark, but not too dark and a hard worker. The
farmworker is the right complexion, hardworking, friendly and economical. The farmworker
represents hard working Mexicans who work in American fields and factories, and jobs that
require low skills. Honest Sancho exults that the Farmworker can go with little food, sleep out in
the field and returns to Mexico after the harvest season. Eventually, he is not purchased because
he does not speak English. The second Mexican model is Johnny Pachuco the urban model. He
represents the Lazy Thug. Pachuco steals rather than works, uses drugs and is violent, runs on
fast food, and can be beaten and bruised. The secretary rejects Pachuco. The third Mexican model
is the Early California Bandit Type. This Mexican is most popularly seen in movies, traditional
and romantic who rides horses, leads revolutions and lives out in the mountains. Revolucionario is
a rougher version of a Mexican who has a romantic side. Miss Jimenez rejects the

1 Corinthian
The essential topic of the story is recommended by the undeniable incongruity of the title, for
Marian s visit isn t one of genuine philanthropy, but instead a formal, regulated signal. It
absolutely does not speak to the scriptural thought of philanthropy in 1 Corinthians, which is
translated in the Revised Standard Version of the Bible as adoration, or thoughtful distinguishing
proof of one individual with another. From the earliest starting point of the story, Marian does
not think about the two old ladies as individuals like herself. She not exclusively knows about the
weirdness of the old women, yet she likewise has turned into an outsider to herself. Tossed out of
her natural world, where she has a place, she is in a bizarre dreamworld, where she seriously feels
her distinction from the old women and along these lines her own particular partition and
segregation. This emblematic feeling of distance clarifies the odd, illusory impact of the nursing
home on Marian.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Anyone who thought Star Wars couldn t become more popular is wrong. It now appears that
NASA is actually talking about it. Also, the XPRIZE Foundation recently launched a global
competition for companies to map the seafloor and explore ocean mysteries. The winner of this
competition is set to make a good amount of money as well.
NASA SAYS THEY CAN MAKE A STAR WARS DEATH STAR
What seems like a science fiction dream could soon be a reality. A NASA engineer, Brian
Muirhead, actually stated that the company could one day build their own Death Star. He states
that this could be possible because of asteroids. Muirhead says that asteroids would give them the
necessary metals to make it. Organic compounds, water, and all of the building blocks are present
to eventually build a custom Death Star.

they would spend so much money on a Death Star. It sounds like a fun idea, but NASA can not
expect the White House to pitch in.
STAR WARS POPULARITY IS MIND BLOWING
It is truly amazing to think that an organization as big as NASA is even talking about Star Wars.
Star Wars has truly become a global phenomenon and I do not think people realize how
widespread it is. The upcoming movie is only helping matters, but even before then it was
extremely popular. If NASA does eventually make their own Death Star, then it can be rest assured

The Epidemic Of Tobacco Use Essay
Salivary Biomarkers
Introduction:
Worldwide, tobacco use continues to be one of the leading causes of preventable death and has
been estimated to kill more than five million people annually1. Lately, the epidemic of tobacco use
has shifted from developed to developing countries2. It is estimated that by 2030 almost 10 million
people will die from tobacco use per year, with 70% of these deaths occurring in developing
countries. India accounts for one sixth of the tobacco related illnesses worldwide and is
estimated to face an exponential increase in tobacco related mortality from 1.4% of all deaths in
1990 to 13.3% in 20203. In 2010, out of 52.8 million deaths that occurred worldwide out of which
34.5 million deaths were attributable to non communicable diseases; more than a quarter of these
occur in low income and middle income countries4 5. Use of tobacco is one of the major risk
factor for non communicable disease which is slowly threatening human life5.
Tobacco smoking in any form constitutes a major risk factor for coronary artery disease (CAD),
hypertension (HTN), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), oral, nasopharyngeal,
bronchial and other visceral malignancies6 . Smoking 1 4 cigarettes per day significantly
increases the risk of cardiovascular disease7. Smoking also increases the risk of thrombosis8 (8).

Warrior In The Middle Ages
Introduction
When we hear the word warrior, we think of someone who has great strength, endurance, and
agility. A warrior can be defined as either a male or female who exhibits one or more of these
characteristics. But, can we truly classify a warrior as a hero? Looking into the Middle ages,
there are some great warriors, male and female, who have graced us with their presence in
Medieval History. In fact, some that come to mind are: King Arthur, Joan of Arc, and Robin Hood.
Many women in the Middle ages are not seen as warriors, this title was given to the men. Even
though, many women during this time; despite the gender difference, were included in the ranks of
many mercenary and national armies . These women were fearless fighters and defended their
homesteads and country if warranted. Women who took on the role as warriors, were seen in a
total different light as natural women , they were expected to abandon their true identities and take
on a more ruthless, and masculine role . In fact, many women began to dress like men in order to
fight alongside them in battle. As the times began to change, so did the ways of thinking. As more

remain unanswered are, how is a man distinguished or noble enough to be called a knight? Does
being a Knight entitle a man to be classified as a warrior first? In the early part of the Middle ages,
any warrior who distinguished himself in combat may have been considered a knight . But, later
in the Middle ages, the title became less prominent because in order to be labeled as a knight, the
warrior had to demonstrate great courage and strength in battle and that in itself, qualifies a warrior

Populist Party Thesis
The Populist Party After the Grant Administration Scandal and the intimidation of Political
Machines like Tammany Hall, Americans in the 1890s were fed up with the traditional
Republican and Democratic parties. The people were ready for change, and from this
dissatisfaction, the Populist Party was born. The Populist Party, also call the People s Party, sought
to transform the federal government in favor of public interest. The Populist Party helped to bring
about change that Americans wanted, and the efforts of this party are still noticeable in today s
government. The Populists wanted the government to be more actively involved in the economy.
Prior to this plea for reform, the American federal government played a small role in economy;
their job was to stimulate economic growth, not to regulate it. In their 1896 National Platform, the
Populists called for higher income tax on the more wealthy citizens. The graduated income tax
endorsed by Populists was adopted after the dissipation of the Party and is still used today.

By the 1630s, about 1.5 million pounds of tobacco was hauled out of Chesapeake Bay (and

To have enough cheap labor and maintain the tobacco economy, there were indentured servants.
There were about 100,000 of them by 1700. The servants exchanged working for transatlantic

Cross culturally fertility and childbearing are a major...
Cross culturally fertility and childbearing are a major concern due to the significance of passing on
heritage, family names, and values to the next generation. Additionally, in many cultures the
children are responsible for the care of their parents when they become elderly. Infertility is a
universal concern in both Western and developing countries. It is estimated that up to 168 million
people across the globe are affected with infertility. The bulk of these cases reside within
developing countries (Vayena Rowe, 2002). When couples are having trouble conceiving a child
it is a source of distress for both partners (Helman, 2007, p. 176). This distress can be manifested in
a variety of ways that adversely affect the family structure.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Additionally, Whitehouse and Hollos (2014) identify different classifications of mother s, which
are culturally defined as infertile. There is the childless woman who fits the traditional definition
of infertile by never having been pregnant or birthed a live child. The childless mother is a woman
who has birthed a child but that child then died. The subfertile woman is a woman who has not
birthed enough children or they have not had enough children of one gender (i.e. sons). While the
subfertile women are able to participate in the women s meetings they are still lower in the
hierarchy of mothers. Though they do not meet the biomedical qualifications for infertile, the
subfertile women can still face similar socioeconomic difficulties of the women who do
(Whitehouse Hollos, 2014). In order to understand the infertility cross culturally, it is imperative
that we know how each culture perceives and deals with the problem.
Western ideas about infertility can vary a great deal from other cultures. There is a growing culture
in western nations of childlessness being a choice (Balen Inhorn, 2002). This can help eliminate the
social stigma of not having children because it is difficult to determine from the outside if this is a
voluntary choice. Though, westerners can be affected just as much by infertility, the increasingly
medicalized view of infertility allow for reproductive technologies to be better accepted (Balen

quot;Television, with all its highly touted diversity, seems to becoming more of a piece, more a

Development As Freedom Summary
Sen outlines two different approaches to development policies: the GNP/capital approach, which
measures development through GNP and income levels, and the capability approach, which focuses
on development through the expansion of freedoms. Given that his book is titled Development as
Freedom , he is clear proponent of the latter approach. He offers a critique of the former, both
factually and normatively.
In his factual critique of policies that focus purely on GNP/human capital, he argues that capital is
not an all encompassing yardstick with which to measure development. While capital and
capabilities are closely linked, Sen believes that the capital approach focuses predominantly on
human beings and their ability to increase production ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He paraphrases Adam Smith in saying that to see humans only in terms of their productive use is
to slight the nature of humanity , a bold declaration that humans are not just means of production
but ends in themselves (296). Early in chapter twelve, he makes the argument that the basic
concern in assessing growth and development should be with the expansion of our capability to
lead the kind of lives we have reason to value (285). This means we ought to value to everything
from the opportunity to find meaningful employment, to the opportunity to live in a safe, peaceful
area. These are clearly non capital variables; while income is good measure of someone s
capability to buy goods/services, it doesn t indicate their opportunity to live a long, worthwhile life,
which Sen proposes we should care about as much as, if not more than just economic growth.
Finally, in what is his strongest argument for focusing on freedoms instead of capital, Sen argues
that capabilities have an intrinsic value, rather than just an instrumental value (292). Where income
and capital are resources that improve people s choices, they are a means to development, not an
end; therefore, we ought to value capabilities instrumentally and intrinsically, and use them as our
yardstick for measuring

There are several geological factors, which led to Glasgow s importance. Firstly, there were many
nearby coal and iron fields. These are the two essential ingredients required to produce steel,
making Glasgow an ideal place for industry. On top of this, there is a very deep, large river (R.
Clyde) running right into the heart of Glasgow and out the other side. This provoked heavy ship
industry in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This included Air, land and water polluting, derelict warehouses and churches, high levels of
graffiti, and also a large amount of traffic congestion. Some houses were in such a poor state, that
they fell down with people living in them, resulting in a number of tragic deaths.
The city had rapidly fallen into a state of inner city decay.
The first step taken by the Councils was to carry out Comprehensive Redevelopment. This
means demolishing and rebuilding slums. Many slums were removed from areas such as
Gorbals, and roads new roads were also built to improve transport links. To re house all of the
people made homeless from the demolishing of the slums, many cheap tower blocks were erected
for people to live in. However these came with their own set of new problems.
They were put up very rapidly, and so they were very badly built. They soon became damp, and
walls started to crumble, and furniture became ruined, and people ill. In extreme cases, the
walls had completely disintegrated. Families were also split up, or fragmented as a result of the
relocations. The tower blocks were also ugly, and it caused people, especially children to become
housebound, as it was very impractical for youngsters to go down to the bottom of a tower block
on their own to play. The tower blocks also brought with them crime, as they are extremely hard to
police.

Essay about A Very Brief History on the Existence of God
The subsequent essay will provide a brief overview on the existence of God from RenГ©
Descartes through Immanuel Kant. First, section (1), examines Descartes proof for the existence of
God. Section (2), explores G.W. Leibniz s view on God s existence in addition to his attempts to
rectify the shortcomings of Descartes proofs. Before continuing, it is imperative to understand that
both Descartes and Leibniz believed that the existenceof God could be proved via reason. The
remainder of the essay then examines two additional philosophers, David Hume in section (4) and
Immanuel Kantin (5), who contend that God s existence cannot be rationally proven.
(1)
Being a devout Catholic, Descartes undeniably believed in God. He makes this ... Show more

Putting this in simple terms, the innate idea of God is like a stamp which says Made by God .
Additionally, Descartes reasons that because he exists with an innate idea of God, God then must
also exist. He explicitly states this: I have no choice but to conclude that the mere fact of my
existing is and of there being in me an idea of a most perfect being, that is God, demonstrates most
evidently that God too exists (34).
In the Fifth Meditation, Descartes offers a second, but similar proof for God s existence.
Descartes begins by asserting that a triangle, even if it does not exist anywhere in the world still
has a certain determinate nature, essence, or form which is unchangeable and eternal which is not
fabricated and which does not depend on the mind (43). He then uses this idea as the basis for his
second proof of God s existence. Based upon the notion of a triangle, Descartes believes that the
existence of God ought to have ... some degree of certainty that truths of mathematics have (44).
For Descartes there is no less a contradiction in conceiving a supremely perfect being who lacks
existence than there is in conceiving a triangle whose interior angles do not sum to 180В° (Oppy).
Descartes again presumes (like he did for the proof in the Third Meditation) that because he has an
idea of God, God must, therefore, exist. After establishing the second proof for God s existence,
Descartes then bases many things, including

Comparison Between Fixed Cost And Dr. Pepper-Snapple Group
Fixed Cost On the other hand Dr. Pepper Snapple Group does have a large number of fixed cost.
Fixed costs are cost that are constant and must be paid no matter what level of the activity is
chosen. DP has over 21 manufacturing centers and 115 distribution centers around the world,
according to Dr. Pepper Snapple Group s annual report. This means that DP is paying rent on a
large number of buildings, leasing our buying equipment that they use at these facilities in order to
produce DP. Those are example of fixed cost, cost that have to be paid no matter what, this also
means that if you have a bad year and your company did not make as much as it did the year
before you still have to pay for the rent and utilities on all of those facilities.
Variable Cost Unlike fixed cost variable cost you have some room to play, variable cost is all
about changing inputs around to change output. Or as defined by Thomas and Maurice variable
input is one for which the level of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pepper Snapple group had quite an extensive accounting profile, one that was around 133 pages
to be exact. In their annual report Dr. Pepper Snapple group showed to have quite an impressive
year when it came to growth and profit. With the profit of the company being up this also lead to
the current stock value as growing. This was explained both in the annual report and the current
stock market standing. In the 2014 annual report the Dr. Pepper dollar share was only up 0.1
points from the previous year. The largest amount of grown that the company experienced was in
Latin America. According to yahoo finance the stock as been rising ever since the first of the
year, closing everyday higher than the last. The current economic profit of the Dr. Pepper Snapple
group is positive, with their current status in the market. They are able to have a positive economic
profit because they are making money after they cover all their fixed cost.

Lion Research Papers
The King of the Jungle is a really big, powerful cat that is probably the most famous member of
the cat family and it s the stronger cat on the family. The lion is known for it s big, silencing

An opportunity to buy an established line of gourmet (high quality/high priced) frozen dinners had arisen. Because there were other interested buyers, a decision had to be made within three or four weeks. This decision depended on judgments about the future prospects of the gourmet frozen dinner market and whether Barkley could achieve a competitive advantage. Barkley was known to have strengths in operations (product preparation), distribution (obtaining distribution and managing the shelves), and advertising. Their brands typically held a solid second place position in the supermarket. There was no effort at umbrella brand identification, so each product area was carried by its own brand. Joyce Stevenson had previously been in strategic planning, and reviewed the type of information and analysis that would be required to support a strategic decision like this one. She wrote down the following four sets of questions to guide the thinking of the research group: 1. Market analysis ■What are the size, current growth rate, and projected growth rate of the industry and its relevant subsets (such as ethnic dinners) for the next five and ten years? ■What are the important industry trends? ■What are the emerging production technologies? ■What are the distribution trends? ■What are current and future success factors (a competitive skill or asset needed to compete successfully)? 2. The Man In The Dead Machine Summary In the poem The Man in the Dead Machine, Donald Hall uses vivid imagery and alternative scenarios to emphasize the sheer overwhelming specter of death that loomed over those serving in the greatest conflict known to man. The hook that Hall uses to initially provoke the readers interest is the mentioning of the Grumman Hellcat, a fighter plane used by Americans in World War II. Specifying the model of the fighter plane allows the reader to be knowledgeable about the setting of the poem. The meaning of this poem focuses on the destructivity wartime causes on the life of those in service. The main focal point Hall emphasizes throughout his poem is the uncertainty of life and death. However, other important targets of this poem are suicide... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout this poem there are multiple ways Hall connects the poem to its core meaning. Located within the title, the word dead is used to describe the machine. Being dead is the ultimate end of a life and that uncertainty of death sparks fear among many people. The inclusion of this certain word is used to set the tone of the poem as dark and gloomy and obtain the readers interest. Another method used by Hall to convey the theme of death was through imagery. The entire second stanza is a description of the pilot s skeleton strapped within the crashed plane. Having such a graphic image portrayed, Hall is able to essentially shock his reader with the gruesomeness that death produces. One of the last things the reader may decipher from this poem is that life, just like war, is a trap. Within the third stanza, the pilot is said to be taking a train to work and is held/ by the firm webbing of the train. The webbing infers that the pilot, although not trapped in his plane, is trapped in the roles put forth by society. Throughout Halls poem, many different ideas and topics can be deduced but the uncertainty of life and death stands out as the main focal point. To emphasize the fragileness of life and death, Hall begins the poem with a story of death and in the last stanza switches his perspective to the possible life the pilot could have had if he survived. A topic vaguely brought up in this poem would be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One way that the federal prison system can ease the overcrowding problem would be to simply release the non violent criminals back into society with a fine or on probation. The overcrowding that is contained within many prisons causes the facilities to become more and more inhumane with the number of prisoners added each year. Many prisons suffer from lack of resources for their inmates such as proper medical facilities, extra prison cells, and resources to reduce idleness, which causes the conditions of the prisons and the treatment of the prisoners to worsen. With overcrowding, prisoners become victims of unconstitutional treatment, and many will suffer and die if this chronic overcrowding continues (Mayeux 9). Though many people would argue that prisoners deserve the harsh conditions that come with overcrowded prisons, they need to remember that prisoners are people too and are subject to the same natural rights as every American citizen, including the eighth amendment which declares no cruel or unusual punishment (Brown v. • 26. Warrior In The Middle Ages Introduction When we hear the word warrior, we think of someone who has great strength, endurance, and agility. A warrior can be defined as either a male or female who exhibits one or more of these characteristics. But, can we truly classify a warrior as a hero? Looking into the Middle ages, there are some great warriors, male and female, who have graced us with their presence in Medieval History. In fact, some that come to mind are: King Arthur, Joan of Arc, and Robin Hood. Many women in the Middle ages are not seen as warriors, this title was given to the men. Even though, many women during this time; despite the gender difference, were included in the ranks of many mercenary and national armies . These women were fearless fighters and defended their homesteads and country if warranted. Women who took on the role as warriors, were seen in a total different light as natural women , they were expected to abandon their true identities and take on a more ruthless, and masculine role . In fact, many women began to dress like men in order to fight alongside them in battle. As the times began to change, so did the ways of thinking. In the early part of the Middle ages, any warrior who distinguished himself in combat may have been considered a knight . Populist Party Thesis The Populist Party After the Grant Administration Scandal and the intimidation of Political Machines like Tammany Hall, Americans in the 1890s were fed up with the traditional Republican and Democratic parties. The Populist Party, also call the People s Party, sought to transform the federal government in favor of public interest. The Populist Party helped to bring about change that Americans wanted, and the efforts of this party are still noticeable in today s government. The Populists wanted the government to be more actively involved in the economy. Prior to this plea for reform, the American federal government played a small role in economy; their job was to stimulate economic growth, not to regulate it. Cross culturally fertility and childbearing are a major concern due to the significance of passing on heritage, family names, and values to the next generation. Additionally, in many cultures the children are responsible for the care of their parents when they become elderly. Infertility is a universal concern in both Western and developing countries. It is estimated that up to 168 million people across the globe are affected with infertility. The bulk of these cases reside within developing countries (Vayena Rowe, 2002). When couples are having trouble conceiving a child it is a source of distress for both partners (Helman, 2007, p. 176). This distress can be manifested in a variety of ways that adversely affect the family structure.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, Whitehouse and Hollos (2014) identify different classifications of mother s, which are culturally defined as infertile. There is the childless woman who fits the traditional definition of infertile by never having been pregnant or birthed a live child. The childless mother is a woman who has birthed a child but that child then died. The subfertile woman is a woman who has not birthed enough children or they have not had enough children of one gender (i.e. sons). While the subfertile women are able to participate in the women s meetings they are still lower in the hierarchy of mothers. Though they do not meet the biomedical qualifications for infertile, the subfertile women can still face similar socioeconomic difficulties of the women who do (Whitehouse Hollos, 2014). In order to understand the infertility cross culturally, it is imperative that we know how each culture perceives and deals with the problem. Western ideas about infertility can vary a great deal from other cultures. There is a growing culture in western nations of childlessness being a choice (Balen Inhorn, 2002). This can help eliminate the social stigma of not having children because it is difficult to determine from the outside if this is a voluntary choice. Though, westerners can be affected just as much by infertility, the increasingly medicalized view of infertility allow for reproductive technologies to be better accepted (Balen Inhorn, ... Development As Freedom Summary Sen outlines two different approaches to development policies: the GNP/capital approach, which measures development through GNP and income levels, and the capability approach, which focuses on development through the expansion of freedoms. Given that his book is titled Development as Freedom , he is clear proponent of the latter approach. He offers a critique of the former, both factually and normatively. In his factual critique of policies that focus purely on GNP/human capital, he argues that capital is not an all encompassing yardstick with which to measure development. While capital and capabilities are closely linked, Sen believes that the capital approach focuses predominantly on human beings and their ability to increase production ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He paraphrases Adam Smith in saying that to see humans only in terms of their productive use is to slight the nature of humanity , a bold declaration that humans are not just means of production but ends in themselves (296). Early in chapter twelve, he makes the argument that the basic concern in assessing growth and development should be with the expansion of our capability to lead the kind of lives we have reason to value (285). This means we ought to value to everything from the opportunity to find meaningful employment, to the opportunity to live in a safe, peaceful area. These are clearly non capital variables; while income is good measure of someone s capability to buy goods/services, it doesn t indicate their opportunity to live a long, worthwhile life, which Sen proposes we should care about as much as, if not more than just economic growth. Finally, in what is his strongest argument for focusing on freedoms instead of capital, Sen argues that capabilities have an intrinsic value, rather than just an instrumental value (292). Where income and capital are resources that improve people s choices, they are a means to development, not an end; therefore, we ought to value capabilities instrumentally and intrinsically, and use them as our yardstick for measuring ... Putting this in simple terms, the innate idea of God is like a stamp which says Made by God . Additionally, Descartes reasons that because he exists with an innate idea of God, God then must also exist. He explicitly states this: I have no choice but to conclude that the mere fact of my existing is and of there being in me an idea of a most perfect being, that is God, demonstrates most evidently that God too exists (34). In the Fifth Meditation, Descartes offers a second, but similar proof for God s existence. Descartes begins by asserting that a triangle, even if it does not exist anywhere in the world still has a certain determinate nature, essence, or form which is unchangeable and eternal which is not fabricated and which does not depend on the mind (43). He then uses this idea as the basis for his second proof of God s existence. For Descartes there is no less a contradiction in conceiving a supremely perfect being who lacks existence than there is in conceiving a triangle whose interior angles do not sum to 180В° (Oppy).
