The Similarities And Contributions Of Akhenaten And His...
Despite more than a thousand years passing the Byzantine piece Emperor Justinian and His Attendants
shares many aspects with the ancient Egyptian piece Akhenaten and His Family. Not only do they
share the same title layout with The ruler of a country and His other figures but they also share formal,
religious, and historical aspects. Visually they have their own unique style with a couple small
similarities, symbolically they both use symbols in relation to the ruler and the countries monotheistic
religion, and historically they both experienced the destruction of art like them. By examining these
two pieces of art from their respective times and culture it is easy to the similarities and differences.
First looking at both Akhenaten and Justinian while there are a few similarities between them, there
are other aspects that makes each pieces form unique. Akhenaten is carved in a limestone panel using
the technique of sunken relief giving the carvings some sense of definition in the figures. The panel is
12 ¼ x 15 ¼ much smaller compared to the larger Justinian who stretches out at 8 8 x 12 covering the
north wall of the apse. Justinian and the other figures is done in the popular byzantine technique of
mosaic set against a golden background and their feet seem to float while Akhenaten and his wife are
sitting down grounded on chairs with their daughters sitting on their laps. Akhenaten and the other
figures are shown with the traditional Egyptian style of the torsos

Character Analysis Owen Meany
In the book A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving, my favorite character is Owen Meany. I admire
the way he cares about his friends and is willing to do anything for them. Owen has a dream about his
death, and believes that Johnny will be present. Owen does not want to put him at risk, so he cuts off
John s finger to prevent him from going into the war. This would be difficult, but he loves John and
wants to protect him. Another thing I enjoy is Owen s jokes and humor. He constantly lightens the
mood with his clever remarks. I respect how confident he is. Although he is rather short and has a
distinct voice, he is never insecure or bothered by it. He is sure of himself and he trusts in his abilities.
I respect that he is not afraid to speak ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite how The Voice comes across to some of the faculty, Owen is simply trying to make a
difference at the school and give the students a voice: The Voice was our voice; he championed our
causes; he made us proud of ourselves in the atmosphere that belittled and intimidated us, (290). It is
clear that he cares deeply about his friends and is loyal to them. Even though Owen is smart enough to
skip a grade, he volunteers to repeat a grade in order to stay with John: WHAT ARE FRIENDS FOR?
I LL NEVER LEAVE YOU, (267). Although, one qualm is that Owen is extremely demanding. He
takes control of the Christmas pageant and changes everything to the way he wants it: THE WIGGINS
ARE NOT GOING TO MAKE ME PLAY THE STUPID ANGEL AGAIN! (148). At times, I think
that Owen is too demanding and rude to his parents: WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?...GET OUT
OF HERE, (219 220). I understand that Owen and his parents do not have a strong relationship, but
they do love him and are only trying to support him. I think it is unnecessary for Owen to act the way
he does at times, but I also believe that Owen is charming. Despite the fact that Johnny s grandmother
despises Owen for many years, he manages to win her over. They find something that they have in
common, bond over it, and become good friends: But my grandmother and Owen Meany twittered
over him as hysterically as the blue haired ladies in Liberace s audience did, (262). Besides

Dissimilarity In Tom s Duration
The producer of this film uses the dissimilarity between real and imaginative to reveal the myopic
perspective of the main character. Throughout the movie s duration, the main character, Tom, has a
distorted view of reality and his relationship with a woman named Summer. Tom s passionate feelings
for Summer cause him to exist in an imaginative state for majority of the film. After his first sexual
encounter with Summer, he is shown walking down the street in a musical like setting; dancing and
talking with strangers. At one point, he even interacts with animated birds that clearly aren t a part of
the real world. Tom is in a dream like trance whenever he is around or has an encounter with Summer.

Is Heathcliff Succumbing To Human Nature
Consistent with most of Emily Bronte s characters in Wuthering Heights, Heathcliff is a manifestation
of natural forces acting involuntarily under the pressure of his own nature (Pittock 147). As such,
Heathcliff succumbs to his nature and reacts without empathy or respect for others. Throughout the
novel, the characters, along with readers and critics, question Heathcliff s nature . Is Heathcliff
succumbing to human nature? Or is he not human at all? Going with the perception of the novel as a
sublime take on reality, Heathcliff represents sublime humanity. People characterize themselves as
civilized and moral, but conveniently overlook the unpleasant truths of civilization. Heathcliff exists
in Wuthering Heights as a fully honest, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Seeing Edgar block his progress towards a life with Catherine, Heathcliff loses his example of
kindness and love. Heathcliff does not know how to handle his emotions, so he lashes out in
aggression towards Isabella. In her letter to Nelly, Isabella confesses Heathcliff [rouses] as much terror
in her as a tiger or a venomous serpent ; later, Isabella laments [giving] him her heart only for him to
pinch it to death (Bronte 144 170). Isabella falls victim to Heathcliff s post heartbreak rage and
egotism. Ultimately, Heathcliff has a desire to destroy others due to his frustration from losing
Catherine (Pittock 153). Heathcliff s full union could only be achieved through a requited love with
Catherine, so his yearning for transcendence legitimizes his cruelties (Pittock 154). Heathcliff sees full
release from his own status as a dark skinned orphan through Catherine: his idol of perfection and
superiority.
Typical to human s battle with lust, love, and desire, Heathcliff and Catherine s unhealthy, realistic

Government Shutdown Essay
The October 2013 government shutdown stimulated a wave of delays in pay and furloughed non
excepted government contractors, which affected agency s operation, services, contracts, and grants.
The furlough builds exclusive doubts on government stability and security from the affected
contractors triggering a negative impact on their WLOC, job satisfaction, and job performance linking
to CWB I and CWB O. Several research questions and hypotheses below correspond with the problem
statement and the purpose of the study. Q1. What percentage of government contracting men and
women were furloughed during the shutdown? Q2. How does furlough impacts non excepted

Teachers Do Not Focus On Phonics
Introduction
There are a lot of misconceptions and misinformation out there concerning how educators can teach
reading, spelling and writing in school classrooms today. A common misconception is that teachers do
not focus on phonics anymore or that starting teachers do not have any understanding of how to teach
phonics. So, what exactly is phonics in education? And, how can educators teach phonics and the
appropriate way to interpret or comprehend the written codes found in different words? This essay
develops a better understanding of phonics and the various teaching approaches that teachers can use
to teach phonics effectively toward enhancing engagement and motivation of student learning.
Phonics focuses on the sound letter relationships used in reading and writing, and involves an
understanding of the alphabetic principle the idea that spoken language is made up of sounds and
these sounds can be mapped to written letters (Hill, 2015, p. 241). Phonics entails phonemic
awareness or alphabet knowledge that is, converting various sounds in spoken dialect and representing
them in the written language. For children to learn to read and spell using phonics, they must
understand the relationship between sounds (phonemes) and letters or letter combinations (graphemes)
and then remember the specific letter sequences and patterns used in different speech sounds. Phonics
instruction thus focuses on developing the relationship between spoken language and written dialect.

The Business s Planning And Control Policy
BUDGETING
In the most recent years budgets are considered to be one of the key factors about the business s
planning and control policy (Thomas, 1983, p. 133). Financial budgets show the business s strategy
concerning the following year compiled by financial statements, plus they are supposed to be the
policy used in order to evaluate the managerial performance and be the principle of the management
system (ibid). Budgets are considered to be attached to the concept of control.
It is really essential that firms create a written project that formulates which will be the objectives of
the company, what kind of strategies should be followed and what outcomes are more likely, also
known as performance targets (Merchant Van der Stede, 2012, p.306). According to Drury (2004, p.
593) budgeting is affected by the fulfillment of the deep rooted plan for the following year and, due to
the shorter preparation boundary, budgets are supposed to be accurate and particularized. Budgets are
a straightforward evidence of what should be anticipated to be accomplished throughout the duration
of the budget period.
According to Hansen and Mowen (2003, p.992) Budgetary slack is the process of padding the budget
by overestimating costs and underestimating revenues . Managers and workers in a firm need to be
encouraged to participate in the budget. There are two main ways in which the participation in the
budget takes place: the first one is the top down approach, in which the managers give

What did you enjoy most about the internship program? Was there anything you d like to see changed

I really enjoyed the meetings that we had together. It was awesome to get to meet some of the other
interns in the program and I found the meetings to be very informative. It was great to hear about the
core values of the chaplain program and then be able to reflect on things we learned with assignments.
It was all very practical and useful in preparing to potentially become a chaplain.

So team leadership is important because the other leaders around you are a valuable resource to help
you be the best leader you can be. All the roles have equal importance and all are highly valued and

only be confined to serving in that capacity. It s okay to overlap a bit and help one another lead well.
One of the quotes that was talked about said: We can function to the maximum only as we become a

Open City by Teju Cole
Teju Cole s phenomenally written original novel majorly takes place in New York City. Cole character
was easy to relate to because of his Nigerian American decent being that I am a Ghanaian American.
Cole is a Nigerian American. He was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria and came to the United States
in 1992 at the age of seventeen. Cole is also well educated and is a graduate student at Columbia
University. I found it insightful how in the novel Cole met several various types of people, including
other immigrants. He met and shared stories with a Haitian shoe shiner, at work in Penn Station; a
Liberian, imprisoned for over two years in a dentition center in Queens; and a Moroccan student
working at an Internet café. I enjoyed the fact that the narrator was well stocked minded. He touched
on the topics of art, music, and interesting books. He had a very eclectic set of interest. Another aspect
that attracted me to novel was they way it was written. Although the book did have separate chapters,
the way that it is written make the novel flow as if it was one big paragraph. There are moments in the
story where characters converse but speech is not noted by quotation marks or paragraph breaks. This
is a type of writing that even the most experience authors fail to accomplish, but Cole made it seem so
effortless. Such a style of literature is bound to keep readers interested. If felt as if the reader was
reading a diary versus a novel. Included in the novel includes forms of

Reflection On Reflection-In-Action
Reflection is considered as a vital element of professional practice as it precedes to insight and then
subsequent change in practice. The hypothesis of reflection is not new as it can be tracked as far back
in the 5th century by the influential Greek philosopher, Socrates and to the 1930s primarily focusing
on John Dewey s work. Dewey is one of the founders of learning from experience. He theorised
reflection as active, persistent and careful consideration (Dewey, 1933) initiated by a specific situation
which was opposing, perplexing or uncertain. One of its most common use today is coming up with a
thought, an idea, or opinion made or an observation made as a result of concentration, suggesting in
essence a way of thinking in which one looks back and meditate upon (Agnes, 2004).
In 1938, Donald Schon s The Reflective Practitioner: How Professionals Think in Action was
published. He promoted two types of reflection, which he referred to as 1) reflection on action and 2)
reflection in action (Somerville and Keeling, 2004). Reflection on action is the most common used
reflection among practitioners. It involves constantly re accounting what happened in the past.

What Is The Theme Of Hope In Copper Sun
Hope is a very powerful thing and the way you handle it can affect you in different ways. Everyone
sees and feels hope differently but it is overall a beautiful thing. Throughout the novel Copper Sun by
Sharon M. Draper, Amari tends to lose hope very often from herself and others but mostly regains it.
The novel Copper Sun has a very similar theme to the poem, Hope is the thing with feathers because it
captures the thought of losing all hope but being able to regain it and never letting go of it just like
Copper Sun portrays. Amari is a hopeless soul when she is reminded that her life is not well, she has

Prostitution
Casual sex for currency has been a major part of history that many upstanding citizens frown upon or
overlook completely. ?Wherever we find evidence of human culture, we find evidence of
prostitution.? (Fanni) Prostitution may in fact be the world?s oldest profession; as early as the third
millennium B.C. In ancient times, prostitution was a way of worshipping and honoring the gods.
The first major civilization, Mesopotamia, honored the goddess Ishtar with money earned from
prostitution. The goddess Ishtar was a reflection of the planet Venus, and was reborn in the morning
only to become a ?whore? at night.
Ancient civilizations treated prostitution with little hypocrisy and an open mind. ?Prostitutes were
regarded as little more than objects to be paid a handful of coins they were also seen as a public
necessity.? Today prostitution could be more than it has ever been due to new medications and means
of protection, precautions are known and can be taken to make this job safer than it has ever been,
ultimately giving unemployed men and women who are interested a chance; currency for sex has
always been the way of mankind and will continue to be a part of mankind throughout the future.

The Importance Of Media In Mass Media
There are many different media outlets, and alternatives available to individuals in today s society to
receive information other than what is available in mass media. One alternative media is PBS. PBS is
unlike many programming stations around the nation. Their idea is to treat people like citizens and not
as consumers. On the Public Broadcasting Service website, it describes how their take on the news is
quite different from other stations. They believe that they are America s largest classroom, the Nation
s largest stage, and a trusted window to the world (2016). I am going to describe in the following
paper the background of the Public Broadcasting Service, how their view is different than corporate
giants, and what type of future does a company like this have in the kind of media world we live in
today.
Public Broadcasting Service is a different kind of media outlet than many. PBS different than other
media sectors because it is a private and a nonprofit corporation (2016). The people that make PBS the
company it is today is the people that belong to America s television. The people of America s
television are noncommercial, educational licensees that operate in 350 member stations and serve all
50 states (2016). PBS does not only provide broadcasting to the fifty states in the United States, but

The southern states of the United States of America were outraged when Abraham Lincoln was elected

States. In one of Lincoln s addresses, which outlined that his main priority was to maintain the Union,
did not impress the Confederacy and on April 12, the Confederacy attacked Fort Sumter, a federal

Unfortunately there was still some uneasiness about African Americans in combat. Some white
soldiers did not even want to fight alongside with the African Americans against the Confederate
Army. Some of the commanding officers of the Colored Troops complained about the lack of training
of the African Americans. But the African Americans were eager to fight and prove themselves as
worthy men who can fight for the country. Some officers were quite happy to arm African Americans.
In September 1863, G.E. Hystums wrote that arming his fellow African Americans would erase that

Difference Between Tocqueville And Marx
Tocqueville and Marx both argue for an egalitarian modern society, but their idea of equality of
modern social order differs, which leads to two distinctive conclusions, democracy for former and
communism for latter, which is adopted by different nations in the world. Both social theorists place
high importance in analysing the history of society to determine modern social order, but have
differing conceptions of history that leads to their contrasting views on the fundamental nature of the
capitalist society, and their distinct predictions for the future. This essay will examine Tocqueville s
and Marx s conceptions of history and through it, understand the nature of capitalist society, and
comprehend their predictions for an ideal modern state. Using their analysis, I shall argue that Marx s
prediction of the future is more compelling as compared to Tocqueville. Marx begins his analysis of
social order with the historical development of materialism that results in the industrial capitalist
society. For him, the history of society depends on the understanding of real process of ... Show more

Mayan Economy Research Paper
Mayan economy was largely based on food and agriculture. For most Mayans, farming was the main
labor resource, this job was dominated by men. Mayans would also work everyday in order to support
their families. It is important to know that one farmer did not own all of a piece of land, as farming
was communal. It is also crucial to know that no money was used in Mayan economics. Farmers were
required to give portions of crops to the government as a form of tax. Other items used to pay this tax
were salt, cloth, honey, fruit and sometimes domestic animals. These items were also used in bartering
and paying for certain things one would need. In Ancient Maya agriculture was the basic form of

Each city state had their own military as it was hard to create an Mayan empire due the limitations of
food and transportation. According to archaeologists as the Classic Collapse time period came closer,
wars became more intense. Wars would commonly happen among separate kingdoms and there would
be revolts against the capitals of each Mayan city. Mayan wars were led by kings also known as Ahau.
In war, nobles were high ranking military leaders. The larger cities states in Maya had well trained
armies who were always ready to attack and be on the defensive side. When one city would be
attacked by another it was for the reason to capture high ranking prisoners to use in their sacrifice.
Also bigger cities would attack smaller cities to dominate them. Important military conquest include
the battle between Calakmul and Tikal during the fifth and sixth century. Both these city states were
powerful and dominant economically, through their military and politically. After Calakmul defeated
Tikal, Tikal took a long time to regain its former high status of the city it used to be. Calakmul
continued to dominate other cities thus continuing to destroy the cities. Some cities were never able to

downfall proceeded. From 700 to 900 A.D.

Romero Movie Analysis Of The Movie
The movie Romero portrays the life of Archbishop Oscar Romero of El Salvador. Romero (1917
1980) was assassinated because of his protests against the horrors the government did against the
people of El Salvador. I enjoyed this movie because of the deep themes and meanings that were
revealed throughout. There was no fluff in this movie, and it boldly showed graphic images and scenes
that portrayed the reality of the situation in El Salvador. Although there were times that some of the
subplots were confusing, the overall plot of the movie was straightforward and easy to understand.
The movie begins with a priest, Father Grande, encouraging the poor people to vote, but the voters are
shot at by guerilla soldiers and the soldiers force the people to walk through the danger. This active
work of the priest is observed by Romero who seems to disapprove of the Father Grande s disruption.
At the beginning of the movie, Romero is quiet, submissive, and does not like to disturb the waters of
thinly held peace. These traits earn him the spot of Archbishop of El Salvador because the church
leaders think he will remain uninvolved in political affairs.
Despite the leaders hopes, this changes when Father Grande is killed. Romero begins to fully realize
the horrors of the government, and he starts to take a stand for the people. He learns later that another
priest was captured by the government and tortured by the government. This indicates that the
government has little respect for the

Plato s Teachings Of Philosophy
Plato was a well known philosopher who lived during the time of the distinguished Greek
philosophers. He was born into a wealthy and very noble family in the Athens. In the midst of
preparation for his life long career as a politician, the young Plato witnessed the trial and eventual
execution of Socrates. Little did he or anyone know this would ultimately lead him to completely
abandon his political career and become one of the world s most distinguished philosophers. Although
Plato s teachings are not universally agreed upon, virtually anyone can agree that that he was a
brilliant thinker and spurred many thoughts and beliefs that are carried into today s teachings of
philosophy. While the precise relationship of Plato and Socrates remains a heated disagreement among
scholars, Plato states that he was, in fact, a devoted follower of Socrates. Plato was highly influenced
by Socrates teachings and highly disturbed by his execution, eventually leading him to establish an
extremely powerful body of intellectual work. Plato is known to be a great writer as well as teacher.
Some of Plato s most famous teachings and writings had to do with his powerful argument that was in
favor of the objectivity of values. He taught that objective values are those that exist outside the
individual and are otherwise dependent upon their individual perception or personal belief. This can
include truth, beauty, as well as good. Some other distinguished philosophers have come up with

Racism By Kwame Anthony Appiah Summary
Racism will always be an issue and will always be considered inevitable due to society. Racism is said
to be morally wrong because no one is born racist, they are taught. The ideals of a group are thought to
be forms of extrinsic racism which lead to morally problematic intentions. Utilitarianism is ultimately
the one way to prevent the consequences and effects of racism, as Kantian ethics follow it up by
defining its moral rule. Kwame Anthony Appiah s article Racisms , claims racism to be a view of
racialism which are the heritable characteristics, possessed by the members of our species, that allow
us to divide them into smaller sets of races... these races share certain traits... (Appiah). Appiah argues
that humans need a definition of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many of these racist are unable to give up beliefs that motivate their special advantages they gain in
the social order. They are ignorant to the evidence that belittles their beliefs and attitudes. They resist
the truth when they realize that this can actually take advantage of them, belittling them and their
claims. This isn t always the case as some black people internalized these negative claims and utilized
them to be their best virtue in their own interest. The evidence presented to the extrinsic racist helps
against the theoretical propositions, as it all relies on the person s deductive and inductive reasoning to
the dominant group. They are not able to to make moral distinctions without putting their moral
difference aside. Extrinsic racism is the most common form of racism as it used to cause harm to see
them independently morally flawed. They are proposed to be both moral and theoretical, but
ultimately draw false claims to the view of extrinsic racism.
All in all, we have an obligation to end racism due to its negative effects and consequences. The ideal
form of constitutional rights has dismantled itself amongst the division of race. Now that minorities
are becoming the majority, it is necessary for everyone to obtain every right found in the constitution.
It is all built on hatred and abhorrence. The obligation to stop it is due to racial discrimination, which
violates the fundamental rights that people have as human beings. It is

Evil Character In Othello
It has been observed that there is diversity in the epic character of Othello and because of that various
behavioral and psychological swings are observed and found from act 3 and were encountered till act
5.
It has been perceived that the gullible character of Othello was transformed into the villainous monster
on the basis of his ensign Iago s evil speeches in act 3. Iago was considered as the most sinister villain
in Shakespeare s world as it is said,
Iago stands supreme among Shakespeare s evil character (A.C Bradley, 1992)
It s a commonly accepted notion, that, because Iago s insinuation, Othello s love was astray, which
depicts the frailty of Othello and his love. But it has been observed that Othello himself was

my wife,, what did st not like...as if thou hadst shut up in thy brain some horrible conceit if thou dost

The conversation In between Othello and Iago showed that Othello himself owned some suspicions
with regards to Desdemona before Iago s insinuations. It seems as he himself wants to hear the
disloyalty of Desdemona as it was not Iago who wants to make Othello think in such a manner but it
was Othello who wants Iago to speak of his wife s infidelity. In the other words it could be said that
there was pre exiting bud of jealousy in Othello s mind which is blossomed with the watering of Iago s
insinuations.
The hamartia of Othello was also encountered in at 3 where he has two major flaws first jealousy and
poor judgment. He found his ensign, the most loyal and trust worthy as he said, This hones creature
doubtless sees and knows more than he unfolds (Shakespeare, act 3, scene 3, p.57)

Article.
Sood, B. Delaney Black, V. (2001). Prenatal Alcohol Exposure and Childhood Behavior at Age 6 to 7
Years: I. Dose Response Effect.
Research Question. The main research question proposed in this study: 1) does alcohol affect children
prenatally. The hypothesis that researchers draw is if there are adverse effects of children who were
exposed to a low dosage of alcohol at the age of 6 to 7 years of age. This study wanted to find the
amount of alcohol it would take for children to exhibit problem behaviors. Sample. The focus of this
study were primarily black females within the Detroit University hospital. There is an uneven balance
between racial groups because 90% of woman who go to this hospital are black. Participants had been
screened during their pregnancy for alcohol, cocaine, tobacco, and other drugs that they could have
used during this time. Also, time frame at which participants had to have given birth was between
September 1, 1989, and August 31, 1991. Follow ups were intensively sought after by phone, mailing
address, or if necessary, directly to the front door of the participant. There was no response rate clearly
stated. During the final study conducted, of the 664 participants, 94% of them agreed to be in the
study. Additionally, participants who had missed previous testing appointments, had congenital
malformations other than fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) were excluded

Information From The Sales Sub System
Information from the sales sub system can be used by management in conjunction with information
from the other subsystems to make decisions regarding the direction and day to day operations of the
business. Information from the sales subsystem is vital in the preparation of the income statement,
balance sheet, profit and loss statement. Sales data is also used by management to manage cash flows
and prepare sales budgets and targets. Information can be obtained through customer satisfaction
surveys, feedback from customers via any number of channels including facebook and customer
reviews along with information from the inventory and shipping sub systems can be used to highlight
areas for improvement and aid in planning activities for the business. If your business is not able to
meet the needs and expectations of the customers the highly competitive nature of the market means
that there are many other businesses both online and traditional retail stores that are more than happy
to accommodate them. The information gained from the sales sub system can be examined on its own
to show specific areas where significant success or failure has occurred. It can just as easily be viewed
in conjunction with information from other sources to aid in the long term planning for the business,
identifying potential problem areas and showing the strengths of the business. Inventory management

The Giving Tree By Shel Silverstein
The Joy of Giving The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein is a great story about morals and life lessons.
The thought is we should give without expecting anything in return, and what will return to us is
happiness. The Giving Tree illustrates both the difficulty as well as the reward of unconditional love
and giving. The Giving Tree begins with a boy who befriends a tree. Each day the boy would come to
the tree and play with her leaves and climb her branches. When he would get tired he would take a nap
in the shade of the tree; and the tree was happy (Silverstein). However, as time went on and the boy
got older, he had less frequent trips to visit the tree. Time went on and the boy returned. The tree
wanted the boy to play on her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At this point, the story seemed to come full circle as the boy had returned to rest where he had begun.
He had lived his life and even after he had taken all the tree had, she was still happy he was there. This
showed the unconditional love she had for him, even when he gave little in return. The Giving Tree
also shows a bit of selfishness. The boy seemed to be more interested in material possessions instead
of the tree s feelings. It could also argue the point that humans need to have respect for the
environment instead of taking advantage of the resources it provides. Eventually, if humans take
everything, there will be nothing left to give like the story suggests. We can relate The Giving Tree to
parents and their children. A parent would do almost anything to help and care for their child. They
also want to be involved in their child s life as they grow older. As we grow older, we can forget where
we come from and who helped us get where we are. We begin to miss that peace of mind as time goes
on, and we return to our roots to rest and catch up with our loved ones. Those who love and give to us
unconditionally are not forgotten even if we don t always

Puritan Society Of The Salem Witch Trials
Puritan society was a utopia made of strict religious conduct and revolved around God s ultimate path
and blessing. Anything that was believed to be sinful or was of material desires would be considered a
sin, and later requires extensive prayer for God s forgiveness. Puritans believed that their philosophy
would last forever, and it would never become under threat from both seen and unseen forces. Puritan
society was formed in and around Massachusetts, and would become the basis of American society as
we know it to be today. One place, in which Puritan philosophy was invaded with such unseen forces,
dates back to Salem, Massachusetts in the late seventeenth century. This unseen force that invaded
Puritan thought would become the basis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The nature imagery used expresses the flaws of Puritan thought and anxieties towards outside forces,
both seen and unseen. Through his use of nature imagery and diction, the reader obtains a better
understanding of such Puritan anxiety within the community as they try to maintain their utopian
society from collapsing to these supernatural forces caused by an irritated and vengeful Devil. Nature
imagery can turn an ordinary piece of literature into a vivid recollection of history. In Wonders of the
Invisible World, nature plays a key role in discovering the hidden meaning being Puritan thought and
doctrine, as well as aiding the reader to better understand why witchcraft become highly connected to
many of their societal problems. This is evident in the very first lines; The New Englanders are a
people of God settled in those, which were once the devil s territories...such a people here
accomplishing the promise of old made unto our blessed Jesus, that He should have the utmost parts
of the earth for His possession (Mather 151). This is a very important passage because it quickly sets
the tone for what is to come; that being that Puritans believed that until their colonies settled, the land
was under rule of the devil. This highlights that Puritans like Mather, were under the impression that
any land not touched by Puritan doctrine was previously under devilish influences. Nature therefore
explains that it is a God given right to the Puritans as a way to possess the

The Athletes And Professional Athletes
Change occurs instantly once a player is drafted into the NFL as a professional athlete. The fame,
money, and lifestyle are brand new and exhilarating. The professional athletes are initiated into a
culture of partying, bling, new cars, new houses, and new followers. Along with their careers as an
athlete, they instantly sign contracts making them millionaires over night. The majority of athletes
come from backgrounds of poverty and rural areas, making them untrained on how to handle finances.
NFL players are given both briefings on ways to finance their money and agents willing to handle
their bank accounts. Because the players hire agents to manage their funds, the athletes no longer see

One problem NFL players face is learning how to budget their money. Once they get drafted into the
NFL they receive large salaries that dramatically alter their lives. The average professional athlete in
the U.S. makes more than most people earn throughout their lives (MunKNEE). Receiving such large
salaries changes both the way people live their lives and how they spend their money. Suddenly they
have the capability to buy expensive cars, fancy clothes, and buy out clubs for a night. The majority of
professional football players spend large amounts of money on items that show off their wealth, so
once new players join the league they feel the pressure to match up to the others. Scott Bercu, a
financial accountant for NFL players, agrees that athletes spend their money like crazy. He sees
players earn a $5 million dollar salary, but by the time they pay their agent and taxes they are left with
only $2 million. The rate at which these players spend their money does not match up to their $2
million dollars left in the bank (MunKNEE). Even though these players make large salaries, they are
not in the business for many years. The average career span of NFL players is 3.5 years (MunKNEE).
They have a short amount of time to make there millions in order to live after their career, but if they
don t make there millions fast and learn how to save it then they will not survive. Overspending and

iPhone App Development: Features Of iOS 11 Developers Must Know
In the iPhone app development world, developers have relentlessly shown that they are a community

Special Interest
Define an interest group with examples. Interest group usually a voluntary organization where
members share a common interest in which they seek to influence public policy, without seeking
political control. They have primary activities such as lobbying the members of the legislative bodies
through contributions to political parties, trying to elect sympathetic or pliable politicians, and by
conducting covert or open propaganda campaigns. (Interest Groups, n.d.) There are a few different
types of interest groups and they are as follows:

(1) They seek to win elections or electoral positions; (2) they reorganize around those periodic
elections and then may become less active, and (3) they depend on the local mobilization of voters
who support political candidates but not necessarily the party organization. Interest groups are more
issue oriented, are continuously maintained, and are dependent on supporters who identify with their
organization. (Browne, n.d.) One thing that differentiates political parties from interest groups arises
from the nature of the political system in which they operate and from the various electoral rules and
structures that exist in different countries. In corporatist societies, interest groups may be invited to
participate in government decisions to the exclusion of competitor interests. In parliamentary system,
a party may have a narrow base and may try to win only a small number of legislative seats. (Browne,
n.d.)
Explain how interest groups try to influence the president and Congress as these two branches work
together to make policy. Trying to persuade government officials through direct inside contact is
called the inside game. Lobbying is another term for inside game. Lobbyists normally work for a
specific interest group, corporation, or law firm that specializes in professional lobbying. (Interest

Many soldiers lost their lives, but they were few soldiers that fought with the valor of Audie Murphy.
In January 1945, German forces attacked Company B, 15th Regiment, 3rd infantry division in
Holtzwihr. Approximately 250 German soldiers were heading towards the Bois de Reidwihr which
they had planned to seize. The Americans felt unprepared when they discovered the presence of the
German forces, so they decided to fall back. However, Audie Murphy decided to move forward and
fight. He drew a .50 caliber and started shooting Germans as he believed that German advancements
in this area needed to be stopped at all costs. This German infantryman were as close as 10 yards from
Lieutenant Murphy, but he kept shooting at German infantry bodies. The bravery Murphy presented at
Holtzwihr earned him the medal of honor.
c. Murphy s valor came to a test when his battalion headed to Anzio. The Germans received an
unexpected advantage because of a missed landing of American troops. The Germans moved 125,000
troops to position and attacked allied soldiers with artillery. Their commander got wounded, but Audie
Murphy stepped up to lead his company during the enemies heavy fire. In recognition of his
leadership efforts, Murphy got promoted to platoon leader and later earned a Bronze star in March
1994 for destroying a German tank on his own. He contributed significantly to several operations

Mies Van Der Rohe Concept Of Architecture
What is life? Exploring Mies van der Rohe s concept of architecture as a life process From his popular
motto less is more to his concept of architecture as the spatially apprehended will of the epoch , the
aphorisms of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (1886 1969) remain one of his most memorable legacies.
Despite being less well known, other such statements promoted by Mies are also important to clarify
the philosophy that sustained his works. This paper investigates one of these less known yet highly
revealing statements: Building art is only understandable as a life process . Considering the broader
context of Mies s discourse, philosophical readings, and architectural projects, this paper argues that
Mies used the term life process to refer to a larger changing reality that united the material and the
spiritual realms of life. According to Mies, the recognition of this material spiritual unity ... Show

  • 2. The Similarities And Contributions Of Akhenaten And His... Despite more than a thousand years passing the Byzantine piece Emperor Justinian and His Attendants shares many aspects with the ancient Egyptian piece Akhenaten and His Family. Not only do they share the same title layout with The ruler of a country and His other figures but they also share formal, religious, and historical aspects. Visually they have their own unique style with a couple small similarities, symbolically they both use symbols in relation to the ruler and the countries monotheistic religion, and historically they both experienced the destruction of art like them. By examining these two pieces of art from their respective times and culture it is easy to the similarities and differences. First looking at both Akhenaten and Justinian while there are a few similarities between them, there are other aspects that makes each pieces form unique. Akhenaten is carved in a limestone panel using the technique of sunken relief giving the carvings some sense of definition in the figures. The panel is 12 ¼ x 15 ¼ much smaller compared to the larger Justinian who stretches out at 8 8 x 12 covering the north wall of the apse. Justinian and the other figures is done in the popular byzantine technique of mosaic set against a golden background and their feet seem to float while Akhenaten and his wife are sitting down grounded on chairs with their daughters sitting on their laps. Akhenaten and the other figures are shown with the traditional Egyptian style of the torsos ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Character Analysis Owen Meany In the book A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving, my favorite character is Owen Meany. I admire the way he cares about his friends and is willing to do anything for them. Owen has a dream about his death, and believes that Johnny will be present. Owen does not want to put him at risk, so he cuts off John s finger to prevent him from going into the war. This would be difficult, but he loves John and wants to protect him. Another thing I enjoy is Owen s jokes and humor. He constantly lightens the mood with his clever remarks. I respect how confident he is. Although he is rather short and has a distinct voice, he is never insecure or bothered by it. He is sure of himself and he trusts in his abilities. I respect that he is not afraid to speak ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite how The Voice comes across to some of the faculty, Owen is simply trying to make a difference at the school and give the students a voice: The Voice was our voice; he championed our causes; he made us proud of ourselves in the atmosphere that belittled and intimidated us, (290). It is clear that he cares deeply about his friends and is loyal to them. Even though Owen is smart enough to skip a grade, he volunteers to repeat a grade in order to stay with John: WHAT ARE FRIENDS FOR? I LL NEVER LEAVE YOU, (267). Although, one qualm is that Owen is extremely demanding. He takes control of the Christmas pageant and changes everything to the way he wants it: THE WIGGINS ARE NOT GOING TO MAKE ME PLAY THE STUPID ANGEL AGAIN! (148). At times, I think that Owen is too demanding and rude to his parents: WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?...GET OUT OF HERE, (219 220). I understand that Owen and his parents do not have a strong relationship, but they do love him and are only trying to support him. I think it is unnecessary for Owen to act the way he does at times, but I also believe that Owen is charming. Despite the fact that Johnny s grandmother despises Owen for many years, he manages to win her over. They find something that they have in common, bond over it, and become good friends: But my grandmother and Owen Meany twittered over him as hysterically as the blue haired ladies in Liberace s audience did, (262). • 4. Dissimilarity In Tom s Duration The producer of this film uses the dissimilarity between real and imaginative to reveal the myopic perspective of the main character. Throughout the movie s duration, the main character, Tom, has a distorted view of reality and his relationship with a woman named Summer. Tom s passionate feelings for Summer cause him to exist in an imaginative state for majority of the film. After his first sexual encounter with Summer, he is shown walking down the street in a musical like setting; dancing and talking with strangers. At one point, he even interacts with animated birds that clearly aren t a part of the real world. Tom is in a dream like trance whenever he is around or has an encounter with Summer. • 5. Is Heathcliff Succumbing To Human Nature Consistent with most of Emily Bronte s characters in Wuthering Heights, Heathcliff is a manifestation of natural forces acting involuntarily under the pressure of his own nature (Pittock 147). As such, Heathcliff succumbs to his nature and reacts without empathy or respect for others. Throughout the novel, the characters, along with readers and critics, question Heathcliff s nature . Is Heathcliff succumbing to human nature? Or is he not human at all? Going with the perception of the novel as a sublime take on reality, Heathcliff represents sublime humanity. People characterize themselves as civilized and moral, but conveniently overlook the unpleasant truths of civilization. Heathcliff exists in Wuthering Heights as a fully honest, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Seeing Edgar block his progress towards a life with Catherine, Heathcliff loses his example of kindness and love. Heathcliff does not know how to handle his emotions, so he lashes out in aggression towards Isabella. In her letter to Nelly, Isabella confesses Heathcliff [rouses] as much terror in her as a tiger or a venomous serpent ; later, Isabella laments [giving] him her heart only for him to pinch it to death (Bronte 144 170). Isabella falls victim to Heathcliff s post heartbreak rage and egotism. Ultimately, Heathcliff has a desire to destroy others due to his frustration from losing Catherine (Pittock 153). Heathcliff s full union could only be achieved through a requited love with Catherine, so his yearning for transcendence legitimizes his cruelties (Pittock 154). Heathcliff sees full release from his own status as a dark skinned orphan through Catherine: his idol of perfection and superiority. Typical to human s battle with lust, love, and desire, Heathcliff and Catherine s unhealthy, realistic relationship demonstrates Heathcliff s masochistic nature (Goff 504). Heathcliff and Catherine have an undeniable connection for each other, but jealousy and complications of life creep into their relationship and spoil its pureness. • 7. Teachers Do Not Focus On Phonics Introduction There are a lot of misconceptions and misinformation out there concerning how educators can teach reading, spelling and writing in school classrooms today. A common misconception is that teachers do not focus on phonics anymore or that starting teachers do not have any understanding of how to teach phonics. So, what exactly is phonics in education? And, how can educators teach phonics and the appropriate way to interpret or comprehend the written codes found in different words? This essay develops a better understanding of phonics and the various teaching approaches that teachers can use to teach phonics effectively toward enhancing engagement and motivation of student learning. Phonics focuses on the sound letter relationships used in reading and writing, and involves an understanding of the alphabetic principle the idea that spoken language is made up of sounds and these sounds can be mapped to written letters (Hill, 2015, p. 241). Phonics entails phonemic awareness or alphabet knowledge that is, converting various sounds in spoken dialect and representing them in the written language. For children to learn to read and spell using phonics, they must understand the relationship between sounds (phonemes) and letters or letter combinations (graphemes) and then remember the specific letter sequences and patterns used in different speech sounds. Phonics instruction thus focuses on developing the relationship between spoken language and written dialect. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Business s Planning And Control Policy BUDGETING In the most recent years budgets are considered to be one of the key factors about the business s planning and control policy (Thomas, 1983, p. 133). Financial budgets show the business s strategy concerning the following year compiled by financial statements, plus they are supposed to be the policy used in order to evaluate the managerial performance and be the principle of the management system (ibid). Budgets are considered to be attached to the concept of control. It is really essential that firms create a written project that formulates which will be the objectives of the company, what kind of strategies should be followed and what outcomes are more likely, also known as performance targets (Merchant Van der Stede, 2012, p.306). According to Drury (2004, p. 593) budgeting is affected by the fulfillment of the deep rooted plan for the following year and, due to the shorter preparation boundary, budgets are supposed to be accurate and particularized. Budgets are a straightforward evidence of what should be anticipated to be accomplished throughout the duration of the budget period. According to Hansen and Mowen (2003, p.992) Budgetary slack is the process of padding the budget by overestimating costs and underestimating revenues . Managers and workers in a firm need to be encouraged to participate in the budget. There are two main ways in which the participation in the budget takes place: the first one is the top down approach, in which the managers give ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Internship Evaluation Final Assignment Internship Evaluation What did you enjoy most about the internship program? Was there anything you d like to see changed or done differently? I really enjoyed the meetings that we had together. It was awesome to get to meet some of the other interns in the program and I found the meetings to be very informative. It was great to hear about the core values of the chaplain program and then be able to reflect on things we learned with assignments. It was all very practical and useful in preparing to potentially become a chaplain. How has the chaplain internship helped you see the heart behind the chaplain program? So team leadership is important because the other leaders around you are a valuable resource to help you be the best leader you can be. All the roles have equal importance and all are highly valued and needed. However just because of a certain title, Chaplain, APA, or RA, does not mean that you have to only be confined to serving in that capacity. It s okay to overlap a bit and help one another lead well. One of the quotes that was talked about said: We can function to the maximum only as we become a whole person with spirit, mind, and body working harmoniously together. When discussing this with my group we came to the conclusion that we need to pursue health and make sure we are taking care of all three aspects of our lives. • 11. Open City by Teju Cole Teju Cole s phenomenally written original novel majorly takes place in New York City. Cole character was easy to relate to because of his Nigerian American decent being that I am a Ghanaian American. Cole is a Nigerian American. He was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria and came to the United States in 1992 at the age of seventeen. Cole is also well educated and is a graduate student at Columbia University. I found it insightful how in the novel Cole met several various types of people, including other immigrants. He met and shared stories with a Haitian shoe shiner, at work in Penn Station; a Liberian, imprisoned for over two years in a dentition center in Queens; and a Moroccan student working at an Internet café. I enjoyed the fact that the narrator was well stocked minded. He touched on the topics of art, music, and interesting books. He had a very eclectic set of interest. Another aspect that attracted me to novel was they way it was written. Although the book did have separate chapters, the way that it is written make the novel flow as if it was one big paragraph. There are moments in the story where characters converse but speech is not noted by quotation marks or paragraph breaks. This is a type of writing that even the most experience authors fail to accomplish, but Cole made it seem so effortless. Such a style of literature is bound to keep readers interested. If felt as if the reader was reading a diary versus a novel. Included in the novel includes forms of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Reflection On Reflection-In-Action Reflection is considered as a vital element of professional practice as it precedes to insight and then subsequent change in practice. The hypothesis of reflection is not new as it can be tracked as far back in the 5th century by the influential Greek philosopher, Socrates and to the 1930s primarily focusing on John Dewey s work. Dewey is one of the founders of learning from experience. He theorised reflection as active, persistent and careful consideration (Dewey, 1933) initiated by a specific situation which was opposing, perplexing or uncertain. One of its most common use today is coming up with a thought, an idea, or opinion made or an observation made as a result of concentration, suggesting in essence a way of thinking in which one looks back and meditate upon (Agnes, 2004). In 1938, Donald Schon s The Reflective Practitioner: How Professionals Think in Action was published. He promoted two types of reflection, which he referred to as 1) reflection on action and 2) reflection in action (Somerville and Keeling, 2004). Reflection on action is the most common used reflection among practitioners. It involves constantly re accounting what happened in the past. Carroll 3 Kaylee Carroll Mrs. Carroll English 4 10 November 2016 Prostitution Casual sex for currency has been a major part of history that many upstanding citizens frown upon or overlook completely. ?Wherever we find evidence of human culture, we find evidence of prostitution.? (Fanni) Prostitution may in fact be the world?s oldest profession; as early as the third millennium B.C. In ancient times, prostitution was a way of worshipping and honoring the gods. The first major civilization, Mesopotamia, honored the goddess Ishtar with money earned from prostitution. The goddess Ishtar was a reflection of the planet Venus, and was reborn in the morning only to become a ?whore? at night. Ancient civilizations treated prostitution with little hypocrisy and an open mind. ?Prostitutes were regarded as little more than objects to be paid a handful of coins they were also seen as a public necessity.? Today prostitution could be more than it has ever been due to new medications and means of protection, precautions are known and can be taken to make this job safer than it has ever been, ultimately giving unemployed men and women who are interested a chance; currency for sex has always been the way of mankind and will continue to be a part of mankind throughout the future. Romero (1917 1980) was assassinated because of his protests against the horrors the government did against the people of El Salvador. I enjoyed this movie because of the deep themes and meanings that were revealed throughout. There was no fluff in this movie, and it boldly showed graphic images and scenes that portrayed the reality of the situation in El Salvador. Although there were times that some of the subplots were confusing, the overall plot of the movie was straightforward and easy to understand. The movie begins with a priest, Father Grande, encouraging the poor people to vote, but the voters are shot at by guerilla soldiers and the soldiers force the people to walk through the danger. This active work of the priest is observed by Romero who seems to disapprove of the Father Grande s disruption. At the beginning of the movie, Romero is quiet, submissive, and does not like to disturb the waters of thinly held peace. These traits earn him the spot of Archbishop of El Salvador because the church leaders think he will remain uninvolved in political affairs. Despite the leaders hopes, this changes when Father Grande is killed. Romero begins to fully realize the horrors of the government, and he starts to take a stand for the people. In the midst of preparation for his life long career as a politician, the young Plato witnessed the trial and eventual execution of Socrates. Little did he or anyone know this would ultimately lead him to completely abandon his political career and become one of the world s most distinguished philosophers. Although Plato s teachings are not universally agreed upon, virtually anyone can agree that that he was a brilliant thinker and spurred many thoughts and beliefs that are carried into today s teachings of philosophy. While the precise relationship of Plato and Socrates remains a heated disagreement among scholars, Plato states that he was, in fact, a devoted follower of Socrates. Plato was highly influenced by Socrates teachings and highly disturbed by his execution, eventually leading him to establish an extremely powerful body of intellectual work. Plato is known to be a great writer as well as teacher. Some of Plato s most famous teachings and writings had to do with his powerful argument that was in favor of the objectivity of values. Utilitarianism is ultimately the one way to prevent the consequences and effects of racism, as Kantian ethics follow it up by defining its moral rule. The thought is we should give without expecting anything in return, and what will return to us is happiness. Each day the boy would come to the tree and play with her leaves and climb her branches. When he would get tired he would take a nap in the shade of the tree; and the tree was happy (Silverstein). The Giving Tree also shows a bit of selfishness. The boy seemed to be more interested in material possessions instead of the tree s feelings. It could also argue the point that humans need to have respect for the environment instead of taking advantage of the resources it provides. Eventually, if humans take everything, there will be nothing left to give like the story suggests. We can relate The Giving Tree to parents and their children. A parent would do almost anything to help and care for their child. They also want to be involved in their child s life as they grow older. As we grow older, we can forget where we come from and who helped us get where we are.
