Socrates Worldview Of Socrates
Part 1: Socrates Worldview Socrates is a widely renowned teacher, who has taught and demonstrated a
variety of lessons that regard how he views the world. Socrates has described his view on morality,
purpose, death, and the ultimate. He has spoken about these views through multiple texts including
The Last Days of Socrates and they have been interpreted through the text Socrates by George
Rudebusch. Through these worldviews, Socrates has given people the opportunity to expand their
wisdom and question the world around them.
Morality
In the novel The Last Day of Socrates, Socrates explains that a central moral principle is that no one
must do wrong. ...that to commit injustice is in every case bad and dishonorable for the person who

Therefore, if these things are not exchanged with the help of wisdom then Socrates believes that the
aspect of virtue is ...a mere illusion. (Phaedo 69b). In conclusion, Socrates view on morality is based
upon justice, examining how to live, and expanding one s wisdom.
Purpose Socrates found his purpose through oracles and dreams by a divine power, ...since I was
trying to find out the meaning of the oracle, I was bound to interview everyone who had a reputation
for knowledge. (Apology 22a), from the oracle of Apollo, Socrates believed that his purpose was to
philosophize. Socrates would question reputable wise men and try to prove the oracle that he
(Socrates) was not the wisest man. After interviewing men with a high reputation, Socrates began to
expose them for their ignorance and their deficiency. He also determined that his wisdom was of no
value, yet he was the wisest mortal. He also established that there are three levels of wisdom; real
wisdom (the highest), being wisest among men (the middle), not being wise, but seeming wise,
especially to oneself (the lowest). Even after establishing his purpose and proving the oracle, he felt as
if he should still philosophize (Mission from God, pg. 20). Along with morality, Socrates had the
belief that our purpose in life was to examine how to live, he thought that we must come

Hurricane Risk
Those who faced the greatest risk were the poor, young, elderly, and those who live in rural areas.
Those who live in remote areas were some of the last to receive assistance following the hurricane and
will be the last to regain access to clean water and electricity. The elderly especially those who are on
government funded pensions such as welfare and social security have no resources to gain food or
water. Psychologist Domingo Marqués, 39, an associate professor at Albizu University in San Juan
stated to National Geographic. You see people anxious, depressed, scared. Marqués estimates that 30
to 50 percent of the population is experiencing post traumatic stress disorder, depression, or anxiety.

Research on Density Essay
Density: Using Experimental Techniques to Solve an Inquiry based problem
ABSTRACT
The topic of this experiment is Density. The objective is to find two ways in which the density of a
given object can be determined, and to find out which of the two ways is more accurate and hence
better to use in such a case. The two methods used in this experiment are finding the dimensions of the
object and water displacement. These are two ways of finding the volume of an object, and they were
chosen since the density of an object may be found using its mass and its volume. The experiment
yielded two different density values, however when error analysis was conducted, the water
displacement method was proven to be more accurate.

Repeat measuring the mass of the object three (3) more times; ensuring that the balance is re zeroed
after each measurement. Tabulate data gathered. Procedure 2: Find the mass of the object given, as
done in procedure 1. Ensure that the object is dry when it is being placed on the balance, as this will
yield an inaccurate reading. Get a clean 1000milliter beaker. Fill the beaker to approximately half its
capacity. Note the exact volume of water placed into the beaker. When reading the volume of the
water, ensure that this is done at eye level, and that it is read at the bottom of the meniscus. After
noting the initial volume of water, place the object carefully into the water. DO NOT SPLASH. Note
the final volume of water in the beaker. Tabulate data gathered.

Agritech Pros And Cons
Biotechnology is the manipulation of microorganisms, through DNA manipulation and bioprocess
manipulation for industrial, health, and food industries. Although, there are many different types of
biotechnologies; agriculture is the leading type of biotechnology that has affected humans for
thousands of years and will continue to make a large impact for the future of humanity. What exactly
is agricultural biotechnology? Agricultural biotechnology, or agritech, is a combination of tools to
improve or manipulate microorganisms, or parts thereof, for agricultural use such as bacteria resistant,
improve crop yield, and the list goes on. Biotechnology, in specifies, agricultural biotechnology has
been used for thousands of years. Scientists do not have a specific date as to when agritech was first
utilized, but they have concluded that approximately ten thousand to twenty thousand years BC, early
humans domesticated plants and animals. Overtime, the desired plants and animals were bred the

Cause Of The Mexican American War
The Mexican American war, also known as the Mexican war happened between 1846 and 1848 with
the participants being United States of America and Mexico. Texas, previously a Mexican state, was
the primary cause of the war. A series of disagreements had occurred between Texans and the Mexican
government leading to Texas declaration of its independence in 1836. Later, Texas decided to join the
United States as the 28th state and this infuriated Mexico. Additionally, border disagreements came up
with Mexico claiming the border was at Nueces River while Texas claimed it was at Rio Grande
River. James K. Polk, the president, sent his army to protect the border which ended up in shooting
between Mexican and American troops. It is after this that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This treaty granted Texas independence from Mexico. Regardless of this, Mexico and Texas still
fought over border lines which brewed negative stereotype of the Mexicans from Americans. Later,
Texas joined the United States, and this idea angered Mexico. Border disputes forced both countries to
send their troops to enforce the border lines, a standoff followed. A clash between the armies in 1846
led to the commencement of the war.
How it played out
The Mexican American war was a conventional conflict battled y traditional armies made up of
cavalry and artillery that were mostly European war tactics. The American s managed to penetrate
Mexican land which resorted to using guerrilla warfare as a defence strategy when the Americans
penetrated their territory. After the hostilities began, the U.S. military embarked on a three pronged
tactic that was designed to capture Northern Mexico forcing them to retaliate. Two groups of
American militaries went to southern Texas, and the third troop led by Colonel Kearny embarked to
the western region New Mexico. General Zachary s army defeated the Mexican military after a series
of battles in De Palma necessitating them to move to the south to gain more victory over the
Mexicans. The seizure of Monterey and Los Angeles by the U.S. Navy granted them a second victory.

Theme Of Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close
We always hear about communication and language as a theme but we do not think about how the lack
of communication can affect characterization and connections. In the novel, Extremely Loud
Incredibly Close, Jonathan Safran Foer displays just that. He also shows how communication is
important in everyday life. In the novel, many relationships are made and damaged due to how people
communicate and how they decide to deal with their obstacles. All the major characters, along with
few minor characters, have to face troubles that test their relationship with not only the other
characters in the story but within themselves.
The first hint towards the theme occurs when Oskar goes to the art store and talks to the manager. She
tells him very few details about the man who came in and wrote Thomas Schell on all the pieces of
paper. Had she been able to reveal more about physical description, he would not think it was his dad,
although he would still wonder why someone wrote his father s name. Thomas Schell Sr. finds
everyday conversations difficult and tedious so it is no surprise that the manager did not have any
socialization with him.
By Thomas Sr. being non verbal, it is showing his long lasting emotional pain I have not always been
silent, I used to talk and talk and talk and talk, I could not keep my mouth shut, the silence overtook
me like a cancer . When he does express what he needs to say towards Grandma, Foer s audience can
tell Thomas is not as emotionally open

Proteus Research Paper
In 1885, a German pathologist and bacteriologist name Gustav Hauser was credit for discovering the
genus Proteus. He also discovered and named its three species Proteus vulgaris, Proteus mirabilis and
Proteus zenkeri. Hauser was born in July 1856 in the town of Nordlingen, Germany. In the University
of Nuremberg in Bavaria, he became an assistant to Friedrich A. Zenker in the pathology department.
Friedrich A. Zenker, a well known pathologist and physician, He was renowned for his discovery of
trichinosis, a parasitic disease caused by roundworms. This disease can cause diarrhea, abdominal pain
or vomiting. Trichinosis is largely caused by eating undercooked meat that enclose encysted larval.

that Proteus was the first born son of Poseidon. He was one of the several deities whom Homer calls

Lao Tzu Evil
The concepts of good and evil exist within every society therefore there must exist some method of
instruction about the path to goodness. Lao Tzu, the author of the Tao Te Ching, who defines good as
having faith in the Tao to better the world and oneself, and Dante, who wrote The Divine Comedy and
defines good as faith the way of heaven and hell and in the punishments of sinners, take very different
approaches to defining the path to virtuousness. Lao Tzu defines what is good and focuses on the
reward of achieving that goodness, while Dante defines the good by exemplifying the bad to inspire
fear through the prospect of punishment. In the model of good versus evil one can focus on achieving
good or avoiding evil by setting an example that appeals to peoples interest in bettering their own lives
or in bettering their society. The good as defined by Lao Tzu can be more effectively and universally
achieved through a system of reward that defines the good such as is done in the Tao Te Ching rather
than using a system of punishment that defines good by exemplifying the bad through the sinners as
Dante does. While both texts appeal to self interest in their teaching of how attain virtue, Lao Tzu
widens his argument to consider the desire of people to better their society as well as themselves
which is more accurate to the nature of people. Dante suggests that the natural empathy of humans is
hindering and must be eliminated, but that view goes against human instinct as it is

born. After the death of his father he moved to hastinapura where he was raised with his cousins. He
was also very determined for instance when he and his brothers were playing with a ball it fell into a
well. While the others had deemed the ball lost he repeatedly tried to retrieve the object. This is where
he met his teacher Dronacharya who taught all of his brothers after helping Arjuna retrieve the ball.
Under his guidance Arjuna became the most powerful archer even better than his own son
Ashwathama. Dronacharya once claimed that Arjuna could shoot the eye of a bird sitting on a tree and
was as usual proven correct. However due to Arjuna being Dronacharya s favorite he was hated by his

Thin-Layer Chromatography Lab
Introduction Thin layer chromatography, also known as TLC, is a principle that describes how various
compounds travel multiple distances when placed as a thin layer on a plate. TLC is a technique that
can be used to determine how many components are in a mixture. TLC can also be used to determine a
specific compound in a mixture. After performing TLC, the retention factor (Rf) can be used to
determine a specific compound in a mixture. The retention factor (Rf) is During TLC, there is a step
called elution. In elution the components on the TLC plate will have different solubilities and different

bottom of the TLC plate is parallel to the bottom of the jar in the TLC chamber. If it is not parallel,
then the solvent front will not develop properly and it will make determining the spots or comparing
the spots more difficult. The last way to improve this experiment would be to make sure that the .5%

Zinn And Johnson Differences
1. How do Zinn and Johnson differ in their portrayal of the Old and new Worlds before contact in
1492?
Johnson and Zinn differ in the way they deliver information about history. Johnson focus was
primality on the conquests of the Europeans in order to create what we know now as the United States
of America. Zinn on the other hand, his focus was geared towards the perspective of the indigenous
people. Zinn wanted to shed a different light on how history was told. The Old world for Johnson,
talks about Europe basically trying to find gold and to obtain riches. The Spaniards discovered the
New world and they conquered the territory as told by Johnson. His portrayal of the New and Old
world, based on my opinion, he focus was mainly on the Europeans point of view to gain dominance
over this new world. However, Zinn focuses this information ... Show more content on

What differences do you notice between the Native American and Christian origin stories? How might
those differences shape what will happen when the two groups come into contact?
The first group of Native Americans, the Maidu origin story began with a turtle and the turtle was

Earth Initial used the dirt under the turtle s nails to create the earth. Additionally, Earth Initial invited

Cyber Crimes And The Crime
Abstract Law Enforcement have always been tasked with having to evolve with the trends in crime
throughout history. Unfortunately for Law Enforcement, they are always on the back end of that and
are often behind for months before being able to counteract. Cyber crimes are no different. Cyber
Crimes are a new and always developing form of crime that bases its entire agenda from taking
advantage of its victims over the internet. Law Enforcement s job is to assess and work to stop these
crimes but it s not that easy. These cyber crimes are heavily in the favor of the criminals and the lack
of assistance to Law Enforcement makes it harder for them. The scams are always changing and the
costs are adding up as Law Enforcement takes on Cyber crimes.
Introduction Cyber crimes, as defined by dictionary.com, are criminal activity or a crime that involves
the internet, a computer system, or computer technology. Cyber Crimes may occur all over the globe,
but the scene of the crime shares one common location, the internet. Law Enforcement has been
tasked with bringing an end to this digital dilemma and they have started by going to war. The war on
Cyber crimes is a term used to designate the efforts of Law Enforcement to go against these sly
criminals. There are many different forms of these crimes, such as some come in forms of scams and
others are ushered in by hackers. The shocking part is the statistics that come along with these crimes
and the amount of money that

False Confessions In The Criminal Justice System
False confessions are a major problem in the Criminal Justice system, since 1989, a total of two
thousand people have been convicted for serious crimes that they did not commit. There are many
causes of false confessions, some including a low IQ and mental illness. Today, people are often
targeted by detectives when being interrogated for committing a crime. As the causes of false
confessions include mental illness and low intelligence quote, therefore leading to false convictions,
there has to be solutions to these issues.

First off, The Pittsburgh Post bring s up, Statements can be complicated to document due to many
police organizations fail to videotape interrogations (Moushey). This example describes that many
police agencies fail to record the interrogations that they are involved in which causes the cases to be
unsolved for many years. To continue, New York Times claims, Police use a variation of techniques to
receive a certain disclosure, but the techniques used can be hard for the jury to comprehend (Dolan).
This confirmation proves that the techniques used to reveal evidence can not be understood by the
court, therefore, recordings during interrogations are avoided. Moving on, New York Times explains,
Legal authorities claim that the best way to make sure confessions are truthful is to require detectives
to document and record interrogations (Dolan). This quote verifies that it should be essential for
detectives and police to videotape questioning because they may be tricking victims into confessing.
Finally, New York Times mentions, Tape recording could prevent police from doing remarkable
techniques and prevent false convictions (Dolan). This citation clarifies that tape recording could
prevent police from going the extra mile to find someone guilty in their case. Many police break the
law by trying to find a victim guilty and tricking them into falsely confessing to a crime they

Plato s Euthyphro Paradox
As I read through Plato s Euthyphro, I notice a remarkable conflict regarding definitions of
perceptions. This simply means, that Socrates questions Euthyphro in order to find the objective
meaning, and by doing so he creates an ongoing conflict amongst subjective meaning and objective
meaning. He questions, if it is probable to have an objective and, is an objective a definition of an
object or idea? The questions that Socrates presents concerning this particular idea generates a term
known as a, Euthyphro Paradox. For an example, there is a sports car that you have an opportunity to
buy at an affordable price, however all of the other customers at the car dealership feel the same way
that you feel about this particular vehicle. You must learn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Socrates argues that Euthyphro s lack of the true meaning of the term piety pushes forth a
contradictory cycle within itself. In fact the definition that Euthyphro gave was only showing us an
example of a pious act. Euthyphro failed to give a distinguishing meaning as to, what is piety? This
gives inside to Euthyphro s first contradiction from the lack of evidence. Euthyphro mentions that in
his opinion on pious saying that it is irrelevant in its nature. To demonstrate this Socrates states that he
feels as though most men assume that they were correct despite the lack of vital evidence to prove
their case. That being said this argument cannot be seen in terms of morality. For an example, if one
were to carry out this argument any further, an act of kindness is morally good in God s eyes. The
contradictions comes in to play when people question as to why God considers such acts as this good.
This perspective of thinking has lead people to believe that morality is necessary to be arbitrarily
assigned by God, than being good in itself therefore making it moral. In this particular case, if the
importance of morality and goodness within itself is considered subjective, this is because one cannot
differentiate God s aspect on morality and what is considered objectively moral. That being said, one
simply cannot differentiate what is objective pious and what God s aspect on pious. Both Socrates and
Euthyphro find it very problematic in identifying the difference between being loved by God(s) and
piety. In today s society, most would use the many code of ethics, and use them independently apart

Future sales initiatives and identification of nationwide hospital trends can provide tremendous
industry intelligence that the company can support with new distribution and consulting service
offerings.
SAP BusinessObjects:
BusinessObjects is the most widely used and powerful tool the sales team has at its disposable. This
data warehouse provides us with significant volumes of information that can be used to support
business decisions both internally and externally. We can answer customer questions in a short time
span and document our service to them over the last five years. The service and pricing data is most
widely called for and every representative has used their own queries to answer these questions. While
the individual initiative to respond to these inquiries is positive, they are inconsistent because of the
use of custom queries.
We want to ensure that our data is reliable and accurate, so we are going to develop a group of
standard queries for internal use by the sales team. Some report will be internally focused and include

The Gatorade Sports Drink Company
The Gatorade sports drink was founded in 1965 by a group of university physicians at University of
Florida after an assistant coached asked the why his football players were so affected by the heat. This
lead to the discovery and invention of a carbohydrate and electrolyte drink to help replenish and refuel
the nutrients lost through sweat and exercise. The University of Florida s mascot is the Gator, which is
how they came up with the name Gatorade. PepsiCo acquired Gatorade in 2001. Gatorade also has a
69.5% market share in sports drinks. PepsiCo has 6 divisions, North American Beverages, Frito Lay
North America, Quaker foods North America, Latin America, Europe Sub Saharan Africa, and Asia,
Middle East, North Africa. Gatorade falls into the North American Beverages division. Within
Gatorades brand name there are a few product lines, The G Series, Endurance, and Equipment lines.
The sports drink is part of the G series which is based on three steps, prime, perform, and recover and
is part of the perform step.
Price
Starting out Gatorade was more of a premium pricing but that gave way to a competitive pricing
scheme after competition entered into the market.
Promotion
Gatorade does a lot of promoting. They are online though YouTube ads, ads on sports sites like the
NBA and their own official website. Gatorade is also the official drink of many sports organizations
such as the NBA, NFL, USA basketball, US Soccer Federation, NHL, MLB, MLS, WNBA, high

Issues Involving Racial Inequality in Society Today
In today s society there are many issues involving racial inequality. One major issue affecting college
students and high school seniors is affirmative action. Affirmative action is a policy favoring those
who tend to suffer from discrimination, especially minorities. Affirmative action started in the 1970 s
and its purpose is to help universities better diversify their campus with different demographics. At the
time, affirmative action was a means of restitution for human rights abuse African Americans suffered
for generations. Today, affirmative action is not limited to blacks, and is a controversial issue due to
higher competition with college acceptance rates.
Those who argue in favor of affirmative action argue that the policy is necessary because it allows
universities to maintain diversity and strip campuses of racial barriers to reflect a better integrated
society. Affirmative action compensates for opportunities lost to minorities and racism. Supporters
also argue that affirmative action benefits all students, not just minorities. It does so by allowing
students to better integrate with one another to prepare them for the workforce.
Opponents of affirmative action argue that it violates the 1964 Civil Rights Act because prohibits
discrimination or segregation on the ground of race, color...or national origin in federally funded
programs and activities. Opponents of this policy declare affirmative action beneficiaries eventually

The Process Of Mitosis And The Function Of Chromosomes,...

The process of mitosis is one performed millions of times a day by every living thing. Each of these
cells contains the blueprints of our bodies, which are scientifically known as chromosomes, genes, and
DNA. The purpose of this paper is to inform people about the process of mitosis, and to teach people
about the function of chromosomes, genes and DNA, and the relation between one another.
The process of mitosis is a five step process that starts from just a single cell. Every minute of
everyday, cells are dying, and in order for us to stay alive and functioning they must be replaced. For
example, if you get a cut on your hand, cells die. In order ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Half of the chromosomes go to one side and half go to the other. When the chromosomes are on either
side telophase begins. Telophase is when the division is almost done. The cell membrane closes and
splits in two. From this you get two different cells. The process is complete... for now. Interphase is
when a cell is in it s resting state. The cell is just going about its normal business and getting ready for
another cell division that is soon to come.
The process of mitosis is a fascinating process which occurs when a cell needs to split into two child
cells. The process happens all the time as we grow, get injured, and need cells to repair our body, or
just to replace cells that have died.
Chromosomes, genes, and DNA are all connected. Each goes into each other like russian nesting dolls.
You start with the human body, inside the human body you have trillions of cells, which all contain
nuclei. Inside the nuclei are twenty three pairs of chromosomes, forty six total. Coiled inside each of
these chromosomes is DNA, and the DNA is made up of genes.
Every cell has different organelles, and these organelles eliminate waste and produce energy. The cell
nucleus is an organelle, and it is here that we find chromosomes. Imagine chromosomes like a
briefcase carrying the blueprints of life. Chromosomes are an outer casing for DNA, and they are the
ones who carry all of the information related to our bodies composition

Business Information Systems in Your Career
Student Objectives
1. How are information systems transforming business and what is their relationship to globalization?
2. Why are information systems so essential for running and managing a business today? 3. What
exactly is an information system? How does it work? What are its people, organization, and
technology components? 4. How will a four step method for business problem solving help you solve
information system relations problems? 5. How will information systems affect business careers and
what information systems skills and knowledge are essential?
Chapter Outline

How Information ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The opening case, NBA Teams Make a Slam dunk with Information Technology, shows students that
even the professional sports industry has embraced technology as a way to enhance their employees
performance and increase their competitive advantage. Students will start to become familiar with the
idea that many different kinds of businesses have had to change the way they operate, even the
National Basketball Association (NBA). Their new emphasis is on using the Internet and information
technology to mine statistical data and turn it into useful information. The challenges facing the NBA
show why information systems are so essential today. The NBA is a business as well as a sport, and it
needs to help its member teams stay in business and increase their revenues.
Section 1.1, The Role of Information Systems in Business Today , gives students a feel for the
importance of information systems in business today and how they have transformed businesses on
the world stage. A good discussion of the six important business objectives outlined in this section
allows the instructor and students to openly discuss why businesses have become so dependent on
information systems today and the importance of these systems for the survival of a firm. Stress to
students that information systems are not a luxury. In most businesses they are the core to survival.
This would be a good time to ask students to discuss how their own schools are using

Symbolism In A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings
Society can be a smooth talker, it can slyly belittle someone until they fit the stereotype society has
placed upon them. Some people are willing to sever past the constant bigotry and persevere towards
the person they want to become, but others get stuck and fall into the trap called the pigeonhole. The
line separating those who ignore society s harsh accusations and those who listen are classified
directly with how the targets react towards discrimination. Ifemelu, the main character from
Americanah by Chimamanda Adichie, was a Nigerian women that lived in America who received an
abundant amount of discrimination towards her African race and accent. Within a short story by

he [angel] must have known the reason for those changes, for he was quite careful that no one should

Symbolism In The Poisonwood Bible By Barbara Kingsolver
The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver People face difficult and life altering challenges every
day. Some of the awful times are more complex and affect more people than other types can. A
challenge can start out as a family trying to help the less fortunate, but then take a turn for the worse.
Even if it wasn t a specific person s fault, he or she still feels guilty. In The Poisonwood Bible by
Barbara Kingsolver, the author uses symbolism and allusions to prove the theme everyone has and
deals with guilt differently. For starters, Barbara Kingsolver uses a lot of symbolism, especially rain.
According to Thomas C. Foster s How to Read Literature Like a Professor rain can be restorative and
cleansing (Foster 83). In more simpler terms, rain symbolizes rebirth and happiness. However in this
story, the rain symbolizes hard times and guilt. The family s server, Nelson, told Adah it was our
offenses that brought on this rainy season (Kingsolver 172). If rain, in The Poisonwood Bible meant
rebirth and cleansing, the theme of guilt would not be as pronounced.
The Price Family is very religious and has a strong belief in God. Therefore, it only makes sense to
have allusions throughout the story. The allusions deliver the theme by helping the readers see what
happens when someone is guilty. For instance, if the girls do something they are not supposed to do
the father, Nathan, would tell the girls you have The Verse (Kingsolver 59). The Verse is a punishment

The role of chess as a setting in the story presents an analogy with Waverly s life. She uses her new
knowledge of weaknesses and advantages (1426) to goad her mother into allowing her to compete for
the first time. She continues to press her advantage, getting the bedroom to herself and berating her
mother for watching her practice. In the chess game of life, however, Waverly underestimates her
opponent (daltonkr4). In the final battle with her mother, It is her mother s teaching that corners her
and she must return to the reality of her apartment; the alleys contained no escape routes (1430). In the
story s final scene she imagines herself rising above the alley (1430). Waverly finds that she is alone
and rising above her origins on Waverly place which by no means results in the desired triumph. The
physical and social settings portrayed in Amy Tan s The Rules of the Game enables the story to
emerge as more than the birth of a child prodigy. Thus they make the story more profound. Arora 4

Similarities And Differences In Sylvia Plath s Forgiving...
When comparing any two types of writing, one must begin with finding the differences and
similarities between the two. A variety of differences and similarities can be found throughout any
types of writing. The poems Forgiving my Father, and Daddy, have some differences but they also
have numerous similarities that stick out to their readers. Lucille Clifton s, Forgiving my Father, and
Sylvia Plath s Daddy, are two unique poems, both based on different scenarios, however, both share an
assortment of noteworthy similarities.
One similarity between Forgiving my Father, and Daddy, is the obvious hatred towards a father figure,
shared between both authors. In the poem Forgiving my Father, Clifton describes her father as an old
lecher old liar, (9 10). Then in Sylvia Plath s Daddy she says this statement about her father But no
less a devil for that, no not, / Any less the black man who, / Bit my pretty red heart in two. (54 56).
Both these quotes illustrate the hatred surrounding the authors fathers. Clifton also says this statement
about her father daddy old pauper old prisoner, old dead man (20). By using these harsh words, she
reveals to the reader the strong hatred that she feels toward her father. Throughout Plath s poem
Daddy, she calls her dad brute multiple times also revealing how, like Clifton, she felt hatred toward
her father. In both the poems the reader is referring to their dead fathers; revealing to the audience that
even after these men have passed away the authors are still unable to forgive their fathers for the pain
they caused in the lives. These are just a few examples of how both Clifton and Plath shows the
audience the hatred they feel toward their fathers.
Hatred toward a father figure is one similarity shared between both Forgiving my Father, and Daddy.
However, the tone both the authors use in their poems are particularly similar. Anger is a strong
feeling and can take over someone s mind if they do not take control of it. Throughout both poems the
authors tone seems to be strongly surrounded around anger, which is shown to toward their father
figurers. Plath says, I have always been scared of you, / With your Luftwaffe, your gobbledygook. (45

The Pros And Cons Of Soda Ban
1Why has there been so much fuss about New York City s attempt to impose a soda ban,1 or more
precisely, a ban on large size sugary drinks ? After all, people can still get as much soda as they want.
This isn t Prohibition. It s just that getting it would take slightly more effort. So, why is this such a big
deal?
1 soda ban
In 2013, New York City passed a law prohibiting soda containers larger than 16 ounces in volume.
The New York State Court of Appeals later overturned the law.
2 Obviously, it s not about soda. It s because such a ban suggests that sometimes we need to be
stopped from doing foolish stuff, and this has become, in contemporary American politics, highly
controversial, no matter how trivial the particular issue. (Large cups of soda as symbols of human

How Does Stephen Crane Use Imagery In The Open Boat
In the beginning of The Open Boat, the author Stephen Crane displays a wide variety of imagery. The
first chapter is about several men who get stranded on a deserted island. While their ship is in the
process of crashing into land, Crane describes the cruel waves. The horizon narrowed and widened,
and dipped and rose, and at all times it s edge was jagged with waves that seemed thrust up in points
like rocks . With much hesitation, Crane subtly foreshadows the future events. Such as in the quote We
re not there yet , said the oiler, in the stern . The oiler said they aren t there yet many times throughout
chapter one. This is the author casually foreshadowing. Chapter two expounds some serious events,
such as their boat detouring East instead of South into severe waves. Despite the storm, however, the
author exhibits much humor within the characters. The captain points out to his fellow corsairs that
sailing through a storm is much more interesting than just sailing on a smooth ocean. Without the

Many factors led to the Seven Years War. Along with these factors, I think that the huge differences in
cultural backgrounds and points of view between the various countries involves also contributed to the
Seven Years War. In the seventeenth century, the colonies were becoming over run by various, very
different immigrant groups (Davidson, 2006). Famine, warfare, and religious persecution forced most

The conflict between the superpowers for the control of the continent began the Seven Years War.
Most people put the beginning of the Seven Years War in the 1754, but it actually occurred from 1756
to 1763. In the Seven Years War, France, and Great Britain struggled to control eastern North America
(Davidson, 2006). The area between the Mississippi River and the Appalachian mountain range was
contested, as both nations claimed it. When the British won the Seven Years War, their colonial
holdings doubled in size and they gained control of North America. Conflicts over trading rights and
the control of the Ohio country was the primary cause of the French and the Indian War (Davidson,
2006). British control over North America and the Seven Years War led to many issues and problems
as the British struggled to maintain their supremacy. The French came out behind in each of these
struggles, they lost position as highest colonial power for the next generation, their position would not
be restored until French Revolution of the 1970 s. Since each colony had to run its own military
campaigns for many years, the colonies were isolated from each other. While the Seven Years War did
determine who would control the North America continent, conflicts caused by the war would still

Why Is Ma Rainey Important
Gertrude Ma Rainey is a pivotal figure in the history of American music. She was the first person to
ever perform blues and the first internationally known African American female blues singer. Her
music acted as inspiration for many distinguished figures during the Harlem Renaissance, and
continues to influence contemporary music and art.
A single source of blues music cannot be traced, but Ma Rainey is rightfully credited with introducing
it to the world. Hence the reason she was dubbed as The Mother of the Blues . During an interview in
the 1930s, Ma told musicologist John Work, that she heard what would be called blues, for the first
time around 1902. She was in a small town in Missouri working a show at the time, and one morning
a local girl came into the tent singing about a man whom had left her. This new style of soulful music
drew in Ma Rainey so much she later had the girl teach her the song. Rainey performed the song as an
encore in a show soon after, earning a special place in the show, and marking the start of her career
(Jas Obrecht Archive).
Gertrude Pridgett was born in 1986 to tent performers Thomas Pridgett Sr. and Ella Allen Pridgett.
Both were said to had traveled around the south performing minstrel shows, which was the most
popular form of live comedy entertainment from 1840 to the early nineteenth century
(Biography.com). Because of her parents involvement, Gertrude had always been surrounded by show

  • 2. Socrates Worldview Of Socrates Part 1: Socrates Worldview Socrates is a widely renowned teacher, who has taught and demonstrated a variety of lessons that regard how he views the world. Socrates has described his view on morality, purpose, death, and the ultimate. He has spoken about these views through multiple texts including The Last Days of Socrates and they have been interpreted through the text Socrates by George Rudebusch. Along with morality, Socrates had the belief that our purpose in life was to examine how to live, he thought that we must come ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The objective is to find two ways in which the density of a given object can be determined, and to find out which of the two ways is more accurate and hence better to use in such a case. The two methods used in this experiment are finding the dimensions of the object and water displacement. These are two ways of finding the volume of an object, and they were chosen since the density of an object may be found using its mass and its volume. The experiment yielded two different density values, however when error analysis was conducted, the water displacement method was proven to be more accurate. INTRODUCTION ... Theme Of Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close We always hear about communication and language as a theme but we do not think about how the lack of communication can affect characterization and connections. In the novel, Extremely Loud Incredibly Close, Jonathan Safran Foer displays just that. He also shows how communication is important in everyday life. In the novel, many relationships are made and damaged due to how people communicate and how they decide to deal with their obstacles. All the major characters, along with few minor characters, have to face troubles that test their relationship with not only the other characters in the story but within themselves. The first hint towards the theme occurs when Oskar goes to the art store and talks to the manager. She tells him very few details about the man who came in and wrote Thomas Schell on all the pieces of paper. Had she been able to reveal more about physical description, he would not think it was his dad, although he would still wonder why someone wrote his father s name. Thomas Schell Sr. finds everyday conversations difficult and tedious so it is no surprise that the manager did not have any socialization with him. By Thomas Sr. being non verbal, it is showing his long lasting emotional pain I have not always been silent, I used to talk and talk and talk and talk, I could not keep my mouth shut, the silence overtook me like a cancer . Lao Tzu, the author of the Tao Te Ching, who defines good as having faith in the Tao to better the world and oneself, and Dante, who wrote The Divine Comedy and defines good as faith the way of heaven and hell and in the punishments of sinners, take very different approaches to defining the path to virtuousness. Lao Tzu defines what is good and focuses on the reward of achieving that goodness, while Dante defines the good by exemplifying the bad to inspire fear through the prospect of punishment. In the model of good versus evil one can focus on achieving good or avoiding evil by setting an example that appeals to peoples interest in bettering their own lives or in bettering their society. The good as defined by Lao Tzu can be more effectively and universally achieved through a system of reward that defines the good such as is done in the Tao Te Ching rather than using a system of punishment that defines good by exemplifying the bad through the sinners as Dante does. While both texts appeal to self interest in their teaching of how attain virtue, Lao Tzu widens his argument to consider the desire of people to better their society as well as themselves which is more accurate to the nature of people. The questions that Socrates presents concerning this particular idea generates a term known as a, Euthyphro Paradox. In fact the definition that Euthyphro gave was only showing us an example of a pious act. Euthyphro failed to give a distinguishing meaning as to, what is piety? This gives inside to Euthyphro s first contradiction from the lack of evidence. Euthyphro mentions that in his opinion on pious saying that it is irrelevant in its nature. To demonstrate this Socrates states that he feels as though most men assume that they were correct despite the lack of vital evidence to prove their case. That being said this argument cannot be seen in terms of morality. For an example, if one were to carry out this argument any further, an act of kindness is morally good in God s eyes. The contradictions comes in to play when people question as to why God considers such acts as this good. This perspective of thinking has lead people to believe that morality is necessary to be arbitrarily assigned by God, than being good in itself therefore making it moral. In this particular case, if the importance of morality and goodness within itself is considered subjective, this is because one cannot differentiate God s aspect on morality and what is considered objectively moral. That being said, one simply cannot differentiate what is objective pious and what God s aspect on pious. Affirmative action started in the 1970 s and its purpose is to help universities better diversify their campus with different demographics. At the time, affirmative action was a means of restitution for human rights abuse African Americans suffered for generations. Their new emphasis is on using the Internet and information technology to mine statistical data and turn it into useful information. The challenges facing the NBA show why information systems are so essential today. The NBA is a business as well as a sport, and it needs to help its member teams stay in business and increase their revenues. Section 1.1, The Role of Information Systems in Business Today , gives students a feel for the importance of information systems in business today and how they have transformed businesses on the world stage. Some people are willing to sever past the constant bigotry and persevere towards the person they want to become, but others get stuck and fall into the trap called the pigeonhole. The line separating those who ignore society s harsh accusations and those who listen are classified directly with how the targets react towards discrimination. The angel seemed to favor his own company rather than the company of the townsfolk, so he generally kept to himself, hence why he took no part in his own act. The angel did not allow himself to be captured by the stereotypical strings of society, instead he continued to be himself: the mysterious angel. Another way the angel reacted to discrimination was by avoiding it, But he [angel] must have known the reason for those changes, for he was quite careful that no one should notice them, that no one should hear the sea chanteys that he sometimes sang under the stars. • 26. Symbolism In The Poisonwood Bible By Barbara Kingsolver The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver People face difficult and life altering challenges every day. Some of the awful times are more complex and affect more people than other types can. A challenge can start out as a family trying to help the less fortunate, but then take a turn for the worse. Even if it wasn t a specific person s fault, he or she still feels guilty. In The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver, the author uses symbolism and allusions to prove the theme everyone has and deals with guilt differently. For starters, Barbara Kingsolver uses a lot of symbolism, especially rain. According to Thomas C. Foster s How to Read Literature Like a Professor rain can be restorative and cleansing (Foster 83). In more simpler terms, rain symbolizes rebirth and happiness. However in this story, the rain symbolizes hard times and guilt. The family s server, Nelson, told Adah it was our offenses that brought on this rainy season (Kingsolver 172). If rain, in The Poisonwood Bible meant rebirth and cleansing, the theme of guilt would not be as pronounced. The Price Family is very religious and has a strong belief in God. Therefore, it only makes sense to have allusions throughout the story. The allusions deliver the theme by helping the readers see what happens when someone is guilty. For instance, if the girls do something they are not supposed to do the father, Nathan, would tell the girls you have The Verse (Kingsolver 59). The Verse is a punishment to make ... • 29. Similarities And Differences In Sylvia Plath s Forgiving... When comparing any two types of writing, one must begin with finding the differences and similarities between the two. A variety of differences and similarities can be found throughout any types of writing. The poems Forgiving my Father, and Daddy, have some differences but they also have numerous similarities that stick out to their readers. Lucille Clifton s, Forgiving my Father, and Sylvia Plath s Daddy, are two unique poems, both based on different scenarios, however, both share an assortment of noteworthy similarities. One similarity between Forgiving my Father, and Daddy, is the obvious hatred towards a father figure, shared between both authors. In the poem Forgiving my Father, Clifton describes her father as an old lecher old liar, (9 10). Then in Sylvia Plath s Daddy she says this statement about her father But no less a devil for that, no not, / Any less the black man who, / Bit my pretty red heart in two. (54 56). Both these quotes illustrate the hatred surrounding the authors fathers. Clifton also says this statement about her father daddy old pauper old prisoner, old dead man (20). By using these harsh words, she reveals to the reader the strong hatred that she feels toward her father. Throughout Plath s poem Daddy, she calls her dad brute multiple times also revealing how, like Clifton, she felt hatred toward her father. In both the poems the reader is referring to their dead fathers; revealing to the audience that even after these men have passed away the authors are still unable to forgive their fathers for the pain they caused in the lives. These are just a few examples of how both Clifton and Plath shows the audience the hatred they feel toward their fathers. Hatred toward a father figure is one similarity shared between both Forgiving my Father, and Daddy. However, the tone both the authors use in their poems are particularly similar. Anger is a strong feeling and can take over someone s mind if they do not take control of it. Throughout both poems the authors tone seems to be strongly surrounded around anger, which is shown to toward their father figurers. Plath says, I have always been scared of you, / With your Luftwaffe, your gobbledygook. (45 46). In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first chapter is about several men who get stranded on a deserted island. While their ship is in the process of crashing into land, Crane describes the cruel waves. The horizon narrowed and widened, and dipped and rose, and at all times it s edge was jagged with waves that seemed thrust up in points like rocks . With much hesitation, Crane subtly foreshadows the future events. Such as in the quote We re not there yet , said the oiler, in the stern . The oiler said they aren t there yet many times throughout chapter one. This is the author casually foreshadowing. Chapter two expounds some serious events, such as their boat detouring East instead of South into severe waves. Despite the storm, however, the author exhibits much humor within the characters. The area between the Mississippi River and the Appalachian mountain range was contested, as both nations claimed it. • 38. Why Is Ma Rainey Important Gertrude Ma Rainey is a pivotal figure in the history of American music. She was the first person to ever perform blues and the first internationally known African American female blues singer. Her music acted as inspiration for many distinguished figures during the Harlem Renaissance, and continues to influence contemporary music and art. A single source of blues music cannot be traced, but Ma Rainey is rightfully credited with introducing it to the world. Hence the reason she was dubbed as The Mother of the Blues . During an interview in the 1930s, Ma told musicologist John Work, that she heard what would be called blues, for the first time around 1902. She was in a small town in Missouri working a show at the time, and one morning a local girl came into the tent singing about a man whom had left her. This new style of soulful music drew in Ma Rainey so much she later had the girl teach her the song. Rainey performed the song as an encore in a show soon after, earning a special place in the show, and marking the start of her career (Jas Obrecht Archive). Gertrude Pridgett was born in 1986 to tent performers Thomas Pridgett Sr. and Ella Allen Pridgett. Both were said to had traveled around the south performing minstrel shows, which was the most popular form of live comedy entertainment from 1840 to the early nineteenth century (Biography.com).
