The World is Flat -Chapters 7 8 Essay example
The Right Stuff
Constant change and a flat, global competitive market landscape were described by Thomas Friedman,
author of The World is Flat, as triple convergence and was a result of the ten flatteners. Friedman also
stated that in Globalization 1.0, countries had to think globally. In Globalization 2.0, companies had to
think globally to thrive, or at least survive. In Globalization 3.0, individuals have to think globally to
thrive, or at least survive. (Friedman, 2007) The concept of needing individuals to think globally and
thrive in the market led Friedman to travel and report on various educational cultures across the world.
Friedman was determined to find the right stuff to make the youth in future generations ... Show more

The first ability required in the right stuff is learning how to learn. Friedman discussed the ability to
learn as constant absorption, and self teaching techniques that manifest crystallized intelligence and
enhance the ability of the individual to new innovation. (Friedman, 2007) Life learning is essential to
being competitive individually in the new flat world. Individuals that love learning and are motivated
to search for data or self learn will be stewards of their own compounding education. (Friedman,
2007)
Navigation, is the second required critical skill set outlined by Friedman s right stuff theory.
Information sourcing is readily available on the web. As internet availability has increased social
thinking that the source of data that flattens the world is credible and factual. However, students and
individuals need to remember that filtering of open source information is critical to understanding the
difference between information, facts and wisdom. (Friedman, 2007) The youth of the future will need
to be able to discern the difference between information and carry forward credible information and
spin it into a new innovation.
Passion and curiosity is a third ability or personality quotient of the right stuff noted by Friedman is
created by culture and an individual s innate desire to improve or self actualize. Passion and the
curiosity by far will create more

Cause And Effects Of Hurricane Katrina
Hurricane Katrina was the most horrific natural disasters in 2009. It was one of the most deadly
disasters since 1928. In 1928 the hurricane that shocked everyone by having many fatalities was
hurricane Okeechobee that hit Florida. Since hurricane Okeechobee Florida hadn t experienced a
hurricane like that one until hurricane hit in 2009. Hurricane Katrina was considered a category level
five hurricane, which is the highest number of category levels for a hurricane. Only 3 category five
level hurricanes have ever hit the United States. Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Katrina being two out
of the three to ever hit the United States. For the hurricane Irma that took place in 2017 (this year) that
most of us are familiar with, although it was a category five level, America was far more aware and
prepared for hurricane Irma that for hurricane Katrina that accord in 2009. For hurricane Katrina sadly
America wasn t prepared, therefore they didn t warn the people of Louisiana that their was a category
five level hurricane a going to hit, sadly many those from Louisiana and those states new by where left
in shock and left to find out for themselves how horrific and disasters this monster hurricane was
going too be. A numerous amount of people were not able to evacuate due to lack of transportation
and no funds, which caused more people to stay behind and get sick/die. The total number of deaths
due to the devastating hurricane Katrina was 1,836 and which also includes 1577 deaths in

What Is The Impact On The Early Development Of Early...
Christianity belief is seen more as a theology while Greek thinking or Hellenism is seen more as a
philosophy. All theologists are philosophers but not all philosophers are theologists. Greek
philosophies had great impact on the early development of Christian thought. Much of the elements in
the early Greek philosopher s theories regarding the soul, creation, and salvation were reflected in the
development of early Christian thought. The Greeks were tenacious in asking why and how questions
concerning those and things around them, and even about themselves. The main purpose behind
theology is to understand and follow God s divine revelation. Philosophy tends to arrive to general
principles through consideration of what is perceived by the sense, which is then rationally evaluated.
Theologists like Augustine and Thomas Aquinas both discovered the use of Aristotle in the formation
of the Christian mind. Aristotle, a Greek philosopher, believed that all humans had a purpose and that
the purpose was for the greater good. However, the good life or the blessed life for Aquinas and
Augustine was heaven. For Greek thinkers like Aristotle or even Plato, human actions derived from
reason, rationality, and intellect. Christian thinkers like Augustine saw philosophical reflection as a
complement to theology. Those philosophical reflections were based off of the underlying intellectual
commitment of the Christian Faith. The thoughts of both Augustine and Thomas Aquinas

Aristotle and Hobbes Ideas about the Origin and Purpose of Political Life
From the very ancient times political life was formed by groups of people who were having different
thoughts and ideas about how to rule or how to control others and their properties. As long as that
happened, the differences had led to misunderstanding and chaos among the tribes and as now called
politics. Each political community formed, a different problem came to life. All this was a way to
undercover the best ways of ruling and leading others in places all around the world. The first place
that appeared to be like a political community was households. Then it turned to bigger and stronger
establishments that human being had never thought of before. One of the structures which was formed
and led to different notions was government, and it is the structure by which a country, ... Show more

theory of influencing and governing on other people on a global or individual level. Government is the
main body or institution that runs the country and politics is a system or practice that helps in running
country. Of course political life was very simple at that time because of having fewer people in a place
or community comparing to today s world. Also, the fact that every bit of human mind is into having
power or leading others it made it more difficult to get along in one place without having a better or
stronger person leading them or controlling them and telling them what to do. As a result of having
those differences, political life was formed successfully by some leaders whom they call themselves
governors. According to two famous writers Aristotle and Hobbes who had different

Health Disparities Case Study
Health Disparities are unjust and unequal quality of health or health care outcomes which most often
occurs as a result of margin in educational level, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and demographics.
Indeed, equality in health care is far from perfect in America, there are a number of socio ecological
factors educational level, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and demographics which commonly cause
disparities between the healthcare qualities of different peoples, nations, cultures, and other
classifications. In the case of my focus area of HIV, despite deterrence efforts, some sets of people are
not only affected by HIV/AIDS, STDs, but faces higher mortality rate compare to others. Majority of

Additionally this group, may not have the options to select from multiple list of providers because
doctors, hospitals and health care practitioner, are often inclined to move out to wealthier areas, in
order to make profit to cover the cost of running their practice. Such actions, ultimately, causes lower
income areas to experience minimal and/or poor health care services even though they often need it

Time Management in Nursing
Time Management Acacia Xavier Davidson Everest Nursing | Henderson, NV Fundamentals II
Professor McNeill Day Wednesday, August 29, 2012 Time Management A nursing student s time is
precious. The amount of time that it takes a student to secure a degree varies by college, yet the
process still requires extreme dedication, diligence, mental stamina, and judicious time management.
Once a student has been accepted into a nursing program and begun their education, it soon becomes
apparent the need to adapt and accustom a pattern of readjustment to the field of nursing. Overcoming

How Did Pirenne Contribute To The Decline Of Civilization
Pirenne As a Belgian historian, Henri Pirenne challenged the long held belief that the decline of
civilization occurred because of the Germanic invasions in the Roman Empire. Renaissance and
Reformation thinkers, Enlightenment philosophers, and Modernist historians all pointed to the
Germanic invasions that begin in the fifth century as giving rise to the decline and fall of the Roman
Empire. Instead, Pirenne points to the swift and surprising spread of Islam as the reason behind the
break with traditional antiquity. Islam cut off trade in the Mediterranean, thus making the
Mediterranean Sea and Musulman lake. For the first time in history, the center of life shifted
northward from the Mediterranean. Pierenne states that although there was a flood of Germanic
immigration to the Roman Empire, the invaders were simply absorbed into the Empire. The German
language died away. The Gothic conception of royalty was lost. All Germanic law was crushed and the
organization of the judiciary was entirely Roman. In Spain and Gaul, the Germanic character was
modified by Roman manners and Roman institutions. In the Empire, royal insignia went from
Germanic to Roman. The agricultural system of the Roman Empire continued without addition after
the invasions. Spanish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, McCormick speculates the reason merchants, and specifically merchants mentioned by name,
disappear from record books during the seventh century is not because there simply were no
merchants, but because the chroniclers would not have deigned to waste their time recording such
information. However, McCormick points out that just because merchants are quiet in the record
books does not mean they did not exist. He counters that what we are left with is communications.
Using the movements of people, coinage, goods, and slaves, McCormick deftly adds another element

In the first decade of the 20th century, advances in halftone printing allowed fashion photographs to be
featured in magazines. Fashion photography made its first appearance in French magazines such as La
mode practique. In 1909, Condé Nast took over Vogue magazine and also contributed to the
beginnings of fashion photography. Special emphasis was placed on staging the shots, a process first
developed by Baron Adolf de Meyer, who shot his models in natural environments and poses. Vogue
was followed by its rival, Harper s Bazaar, and the two companies were leaders in the field of fashion
photography throughout the 1920s and 1930s. House photographers such as Edward Steichen, George
Hoyningen Huene, Horst P. Horst and Cecil Beaton transformed the genre into an outstanding art
form. Europe, and especially Germany, was for a short time the leader in fashion photography.
But now with the change in time every country has taken considerable measures to promote the field
of photography.
In the mid 1940s as World War II approached the focus shifted to the United States, where Vogue and
Harper s continued their old rivalry. House photographers such as Irving Penn, Martin Munkacsi,
Richard Avedon, and Louise Dahl Wolfe would shape the look of fashion

As I write this book, Democratic and Republican candidates are getting in position to run for the

ring and right away the Republican Party began attacking her for using her personal email and
business email together. They also more than insinuated that she had deleted some of the emails from
the server she had at her home and accused her of lying about it. However, whether she did or didn t
delete some of her emails is irrelevant to me because most if not all politicians lie in one form or
another to protect their interest. That s just a fact! I know some of you will raise your eyebrows and
say, I can t believe she said that...well, I did and I mean it. In Hillary s position, I don t believe I would

Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five
Slaughterhouse Five Thematic Book Review Kurt Vonnegut is often considered one of the greatest
American authors of the twentieth century. His unmatched style and prose set him apart from all
others. Vonnegut describes real situations and works through difficulties in his own life by writing, as
weird and odd as his books are. In Slaughterhouse Five, Vonnegut describes some of his personal
experiences along with mixing in science fiction to get his points and ideas across. In writing this

Modernism is where everything has a deep, sometimes metaphorical meaning. Modernism also
believes that all problems can be solved with new inventions and innovations, along with a truth that
can be searched for and found if you persist in pursuing the truth. There is really no meaning behind
much of Slaughterhouse Five, and there definitely is no truth in the book to be found. This is
evidenced in many points in the book, like one where Billy looked down the street, saw a new Buick...
He closed his eyes, and opened them again. He was still weeping, but he was back in Luxembourg
again. (Vonnegut 63). This passage, talking about Billy traveling back in time to World War II, refers
to the lack of meaning of time in the book. The book jumps around in time and continually just talks
about random events that relate to Billy Pilgrim. The book also debunks the Modernist idea that all
problems can be solved with new inventions. Responding to Billy s question about how the Universe
ends, the Tralfamadorians reply We blow it up, experimenting with new fuels for our flying saucers.
(117 ). This is a direct blow to Modernism, stating how new inventions are not for the best or
necessarily useful. The book also goes against the Modernist idea of the American dream, with Billy
Pilgrim just wanting to be left alone. He achieves what many would describe as the American dream,
but does not want that. He would rather be left

Fancy Shawl Research Paper
The Native American Fancy Shawl Regalia Why is being a fancy dancer such a big deal? This is the
dance of the Native American Fancy Shawl. This dance interests a lot of people because many people
do not believe that Natives exist, never have seen one dance, or even a fancy dancer dance before.
This style of dance is the newest style of Native American dance there is. In the early 1920 s, Native
American women started to dance the Fancy Shawl dance which was very uncommon. In the 1950 s,
women became more aware of the Fancy Shawl dance and started to dance the dance more in the
Southern Tribes ( The Evolving Beauty of the Fancy Shawl Dance ). Most of the dances that the
Natives Americans dances started from the men, due to the women wanting to dance like the men did.

Analysis Of Grey s Anatomy And Anatomy
Over the course of years Medical TV shows give excitement to viewers. Recently, Grey s Anatomy
has grown to be a very popular show, but has been numerously compared to Scrubs. When more
attention is called to this, similarities are present. For example, the storytelling of each show, the
platforms, and the classification of characters. There are even claims that lead to believe Grey s
Anatomy copied Scrubs.
In Grey s Anatomy, it starts off with Meredith Gray being the main character and narrating throughout
most of the episodes. She is an intern at a new hospital along with 4 others who will be alongside of
her. On the first day of being an intern doctor they are assigned to a resident in which that resident is

When looking at the platforms of the shows, it is noticeable that in Grey s Anatomy the main character
is a woman who narrates the show and is best friends with another intern woman. On Scrubs J.D. also
known as John Dorian is the narrator, but he is a man and is best friends with a male intern. The
interns in Grey s Anatomy are more competitive and confident in performing daily procedures, but in
Scrubs the interns try to be competitive and are not very confident in hard situations. Another
difference is that In Grey s Anatomy the scenes are centered around drama and romance that there is
going on around the hospital, with some humor and on Scrubs it is more about jokes and sometimes
drama. And of course, the nurses are viewed differently in both shows, In Grey s Anatomy the nurses
are not treated well and are ranked lower than the doctors. In Scrubs the nurses are a big help and
include funny aspects of them being better than the intern doctors. It is obvious that there are no two
shows that are exactly the same, but these are some aspects that make them somewhat different but
parallel.
Getting an overview of the 2 shows can be wide opening for there are characters in Grey s Anatomy
that resemble some from Scrubs. When classifying the characters in both shows, many similarities are
present.
Taking a closer look at Dr. Cox from Scrubs and Dr. Karev from Grey s Anatomy it is noticeable that
in the hospital both characters seem to

Louisianan Purchase Disadvantages
The United States bought out Louisiana from France 190 years ago. Beginning on April 30, 1803, one
of the greatest estate deals in history took place. Jefferson seemed to be very familiar with the French,
according to his past, due to the time he spent in Europe as an American envoy. He also understood
the danger which potential military posed. A French regime also posed as a neighbor that took control
of the gorgeous land .One that would double the size of the country and put the United States in a
position to become a world power. However he Louisiana territorial purchase was not as easy of a
business process as one might think. It seemed to be very rushed, stressful process that caused
President Thomas Jefferson a huge amount of mental and emotional issues, although at the end it was
worth the stress because the purchase did include many advantages.
First off, one advantage Jefferson received by the purchase of the territory was the U.S gained control
over New Orleans and Mississippi river. In an article written by Lydia Pick ham she states in the days
before canals and railroads, rivers were the only way to ship goods from one point to the other, further,
the port city of New Orleans, was vital to the further development of the American economy. By
Jefferson purchasing the land he put an end to this. After all, the purchase created an evolution of trade
along the coast of the river. According to Erin Z. Inside of the article Benefits of the Purchase , he

Increase Student Retention In Schools
Increased student achievement has been the focus of many school districts across the country in recent
years, looking at the level of student achievement, what is necessary to see an increase, and how to
afford it. The retention of high quality teachers is an extremely important part of the puzzle. Teacher
retention includes not only keeping the teachers who are difficult or impossible to replace, but also
weeding out the teachers who need to be replaced. This process of evaluation and incentives must
work together to attract and keep the best possible teachers in our classrooms so students can get the
best possible education to be successful in the world to come. The most effective retention strategy is

When districts can give their teachers time to plan, reflect, learn, and collaborate, they are better able
to create an effective learning environment for their students. Lack of planning time is one of the
reasons teachers cite for leaving their jobs and even the profession. Daily plan time is the norm, but
other responsibilities can get in the way of being able to adequately use that time for planning and
reflecting on teaching. Districts can provide additional time such as late start or early out so that
teachers have the time to work with teammates and get the planning parts of their teaching completed.
Teachers, who have the time within the school day to collaborate with fellow teachers and have time
to plan quality lessons, will find their jobs more satisfying (Vilson, 2015). This time will increase
teacher retention by allowing them to have the necessary time to learn new teaching strategies,
analyze data to make adjustments to instruction, plan engaging lessons, and evaluate student

Once the patient received all of his tests he met with his doctor to discuss the results. On the patients

corticospinal tracts were suffering from volume loss,as well as iron deposits in the cortex which

The Boiling Frog Theory on Population
The Boiling Frog Theory on Population Systems thinkers have given us a useful metaphor for a
certain kind of human behavior in the phenomenon of the boiled frog. The phenomenon is this. If you
drop a frog in a pot of boiling water, it will of course frantically try to clamber out. But if you place it
gently in a pot of tepid water and turn the heat on low, it will float there quite placidly. As the water
gradually heats up, the frog will sink into a tranquil stupor, exactly like one of us in a hot bath, and
before long, with a smile on its face, it will unresistingly allow itself to be boiled to death. We all
know stories of frogs being tossed into boiling water for example, a young couple being plunged into
catastrophic debt by an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ethnologists, students of animal behavior, and a few philosophers who have considered the matter
know that there is a form of ethics practiced in the community of life on this planet apart from us, that
is. This is a very practical (you might say Darwinian) sort of ethics, since it serves to safeguard and
promote biological diversity within the community. According to this ethics, followed by every sort of
creature within the community of life, sharks as well as sheep, killer bees as well as butterflies, you
may compete to the full extent of your capabilities, but you may not hunt down your competitors or
destroy their food or deny them access to food. In other words, you may compete but you may not
wage war. This ethics is violated at every point by practitioners of totalitarian agriculture. We hunt
down our competitors, we destroy their food, and we deny them access to food. That indeed is the
whole purpose and point of totalitarian agriculture. Totalitarian agriculture is based on the premise that
all the food in the world belongs to us, and there is no limit whatever to what we may take for
ourselves and deny to all others. Totalitarian agriculture was not adopted in our culture out of sheer
meanness. It was adopted because, by its very nature, it s more productive than any other style (and
there are many other styles). Totalitarian agriculture represents productivity to the max, as Americans

substance of different composition, which are found as secondary plant metabolites in one or more
parts of these plants. These plant metabolites according to their composition are grouped as alkaloids,

Both the extract and the triterpenes exerted significant and dose dependent anti inflammatory activity
in the model of phorbol acetate induced ear inflammation in mice. The lyophilized aqueous extract
showed analgesic, antipyretic and anti inflammatory activity in mice and rats. A central depressant
activity, expressed by a strong sedative effect associated with anxiolytic effect, was also observed
(14). Sedative and Anxiolytic activity: Lyophilized aqueous extract of Euphorbia hirta L.
(Euphorbiaceae) has been evaluated for behavioral effects in mice. Sedative properties could be
confirmed with high doses (100 mg of dried plant/kg, and more), by a decrease of behavioral
parameters measured in non familiar environment tests, whereas anticonflict effects appeared at lower
doses (12.5 and 25 mg of dried plant/kg), by an enhancement of behavioral parameters measured in
the staircase test and in the light/dark choice situation test. These findings validate the traditional use
of E. hirta as a sedative and reveal original anxiolytic properties (15). JPRHC | July 2009 | Vol. 1 |

A Report On The World s Prisoner Suit
Barely moments later, the speedster flashed in his prisoner suit in the lab, or at least what used to be
S.T.A.R. Labs. Like the rest of the city, it was barely a shell of what it used to be. While the building
was thankfully still standing, it hadn t been used as a base of operation for a very, very long time. This
much was clear. There was dust everywhere on the ground and every equipment or window he could
found were broken, pieces laying on the ground all around. No, no....what happened here?
Was anyone left even alive? Despite the elevator being out of service, no real surprise there, Barry
managed to make his way into the cortex using the stairs, only to find everything in pretty much the
same mess than the rest of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dusting off his finding, Barry found himself holding an old and damaged newspaper, yellowed by
time a long time ago, making it hard to decrypt anything other than the title: City still reco..ring from
t...aliens attac...: evacuation ...t...rdered
It was dated from March 2019, over 2 years after the attack. What was the date now? How long has he
slept? Everything was clear; he failed them all, each and every person he cared about, he left them all
to die when he gave himself up for nothing. Step sounds coming from the hallway made him sharply
turn around and rise on his feet in an instant. Who could it be in this ghost town?
When the figure, a woman dressed in black with an eye patch on her left eye, entered the cortex and
came into view, Barry gasped at the sight; he knew who it was despite the noticeable differences.
Caitlin. He whispered in shock.
His old friend looked definitely rougher as her now short hair were barely touching her shoulders and
her face, the only unhidden part of her face, was covered in scars and she was holding an odd looking
assault weapon directed at the speedster. As she intensively stared at the person standing, she
presented no sign of softening, or even no sign of recognition. What are you doing here? She harshly
inquired. Cait, it s me. Said Barry, softly, getting closer. You re supposed to be dead.
Oh well, at least she

How Religion Changes The Societal Behavior Of The...
Observing the daily lifestyles of the individuals from different time periods show a great deal of how
the religion changes the societal behavior of the followers of each religion. The religion s form of
worshipping a God is a reputable indicator of the era s culture. While looking into The Iliad, we find
that the culture of that time highlights warfare and worshipping multiple Gods. This polytheistic
culture differs greatly from the culture of The Torah, which was the first established religion that
believed in teaching a monotheistic education, believing in one God. Furthermore, one can see in The
New Testament that they also worship one God in addition to following the teachings of Jesus. This
creates a difference in cultures as this changes the way people worship their God/Gods. The transition
into the first millennium brought many changes as new religions appeared and there became a
diversity in beliefs. Through looking at The Homeric Era, The Hellenic Era, and The Roman Era, the
differences within these time periods are shown through the transformation of each religion s form of
worship as a ritual.
In the Homeric Era, society is polytheistic and has a unique set of rituals. In order to worship the Gods
they believe in, they carry out sacrifices and pray to different Gods for different needs. The Gods will
intermittently accept these sacrifices and provide something to the people in return. It is perceived as
an appeal to the Gods as the people believed that when

Are Colleges Worth The Cost Of College
Attending college after high school is a choice everybody has to make. However, colleges can be very
expensive to attend. The decision to go to college hangs mostly on one question: Is college worth the
cost? Many people evaluate the cost of college by equating it to things such as family tradition and
whether or not they need it for their career. To some people, college is a stumbling block, but to
others, it is the key to their future. To begin, college has many benefits, despite the cost. College
teaches students more than book smarts, but also teaches life skills. Liberal Arts graduates can be seen
prominently in leadership positions in areas such as politics and culture (Source B). In this aspect,
college holds a key to a prosperous

Act 3 Vs Hamlet Movie Essay
The director that does the best job presenting act three is Kenneth Branagh. In Branagh s act threethe
tone of the movie is much more positive and the scenes are far more colorful than the other two
versions. The colorfulness does a better job of portraying act three since everybody other than Hamlet
is having funand not grieving the death of the king. This is where the other two versions aren t as
great. In those two interpretations, the film is darker and depressing which does not encompass what is
actually happening in the story.Branagh s depiction of Claudius is also a lot more superior and
intelligent. In Branagh sact three Claudius only reacts to the fact that Hamlet knows he is responsible
for the murder and even then his reaction is subtle. In the other two ... Show more content on

Branagh s Hamlet is also greater than the other two since his Hamlet has more of a method to his
madness whereas Zeffirelli s does not. In Zeffireli and Olivier s interpretation of Hamlet, he is a lot
more abusive and aggressive towards the other characters; Zeffirelli s even goes as far to rape his
mother and almost have sex with her. Branagh s act three is superior in this aspect since Hamlet is not
a powerful man but is actually more of a coward and so portraying him physically abusing other
characters does not make any sense. Branagh s portrayal of the queen is also greater than the other
two. Gertrude has a lot more power in his version and is able to stand her ground against Hamlet; she
is also the only one not to have a sexual encounter with Hamlet. This makes Branagh s act three
greater because it is more realistic that the queen would be angry with Hamlet and stand up to him
rather than being submissive to him like the other two depictions. In this version Hamlet is much more
emotional. In the other two Hamlet rarely shows his

Effect Of Divorce On Children
Over the last couple of decades the rate of marriages that end in divorce has been steadily increasing.
When a marriage ends children are impacted and it s not only emotional and devastating the couples
but this also has a huge effect on the children of all ages involved. Many parents go through a divorce
disaster with little knowledge of the effects that the children may go through. Some of the most
common impacts that divorce has on children include the fact that children tend to start to blame
themselves for the divorce, adjusting in areas of social relationships, there are behavioral issues that
arise, and there often becomes a challenge to balance the feeling of stability between the separate
parents. These are just a few of the most common challenges that children face when presented with
the reality of divorce in the family. When we understand the negative effects in which children are
impacted by divorce, the hope is that couples will devote time and energy toward any opportunities to
savage the marriage.
Caught in the Middle 3
While there are many people who go through divorce these days, there are also many children who
suffer from the impacts of divorce on their mind and emotions. (McConville, D. 2013 p 4) One of the
most common impacts of divorce on children is the element of the child feeling like it is his or her
fault. In the initial stages of divorce it can be very important to prevent resentment toward the other
parent. Parents should know about the

Wtg 101
For the third assignment of WRTG 101, the task was to write a research supported cause or effect
essay. I chose to write a research supported effect essay on human resource management titled The
Effects of Human Resource Management Practices on Employee Turnover. The assignment
requirements asked for the use of a certain amount of scholarly journal articles that supported the
thesis of the paper. I believe that my research essay turned out successfully because I was able to find
and identify appropriate resources that proved to effectively defend my thesis statement.

Furthermore, there was a requirement of at least three sources to come from scholarly journals. As we
learned during the course of WRTG 101, a scholarly journal article is an in depth research article
written by authors who are experts with significant knowledge in the subject area. Additionally,
universities or professional associations commonly publish scholarly journal articles ( Identify
Scholarly Journals , n.d.). The primary databases I searched were UMUC Information and Library
Services interface Business Source Complete and ScienceDirect. I also utilized the UMUC Library
OneSearch and added the ABI/INFORM Complete as an additional database resource. In addition to
the UMUC Library I also used the Google Scholar web search engine and sources found on the free
web. When deciding on whether to include sources found on the free web, I evaluated the web site s
author and accuracy ( Evaluate Web Resources , n.d.). I used sources from the free web sparingly and
instead focused on scholarly sources. After fulfilling the requirement of three scholarly sources, I
continued to primarily look for scholarly sources to establish and support my argument. I started my
search with the use of search terms such as Human Resource Management , Employee Turnover ,
High Turnover , and HRM Practices . To find more refined results, I incorporated the Boolean

The Riot On Racism And White Supremacy Essay
In the year 1898 in the town of Wilmington, North Carolina a riot occurred between the African
American inhabitants and the white minority of the city. Several historians accuse the origin of the riot
on racism and white supremacy. Although these two beliefs have been around for countless years, and
African Americans received the right to vote almost thirty years prior, no demonstration nor
aggressive threats, to the point in which was seen in 1898, had occurred in Wilmington until that year.
The Wilmington Race Riot was the reaction of the sociopolitical conditions that were being applied by
the Democratic Party to win the election through a sequence of diabolical campaign tactics just like
creating partial accusations about the negroes of the town thus, creating unconstitutional practices, and
threatening their existence.
The African American population had acquired notable ranks prior to the revolt, such as mayors,
firemen, City Hall janitors, positions on the Board of Aldermen, etc. Black and white neighbors
resided amongst each other. This was considered normal in Wilmington unlike any other place in
North Carolina up until the Republican Party won the election of 1894 . According to Robertson of
Wilmington there was 40 negro magistrates in the count and the custom house officers are negroes and
also the Republican representative from New Hanover was African American. He nagged about the
state that the eastern part of North Carolina was in. He did this so much

The Shampoo to Beat All Shampoos
Mickel Angelo A. Martinez EN 11 R 49 On the 1st of July 2007, Unilever launched its new shampoo
brand: Clear Anti Dandruff Shampoo. It claims to rid the hair of men and women alike of all dandruff,
and nourish the scalp at the same time. Once it was launched, there was immediately alot of buzz over
the product. Maybe it was because the product contained Zinc Vitanol, an ingredient not used in any
other anti dandruff shampoo. Or maybe it was just because it was marketed well, having high quality
television commercials and the international pop star, Rain, as its endorser. But nevertheless, after a
few months the brand became incredibly popular, having elite Filipino celebrities such as Piolo
Pascual, Bea Alonzo, and John Lloyd Cruz in its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, the commercial mentions that the group is composed of ten million people, which would
be very appealing to consumers because if that much people are using the product, then it must be
effective and good. And in the same commercial they have three elite Filipino celebrities to further
persuade consumers into buying the product. This part would be similar to the first commercial with
Rain, but more appealing to the Filipino market, basically because the endorsers in these commercials
are Filipino celebrities. Another important factor seen in every Clear advertisement is the use of the
color black. Their campaign has always emphasized that the color black meant freedom from
dandruff. If you think about it, the color black for Clear can symbolize shiny black hair, or confidence;
because wearing black is often avoided by those who suffer from dandruff. And this was creative; it
makes the advertisements unique and eye catching because they re the only advertisements wherein
the people, the background, and pretty much everything is colored black. Black is mysterious, classy,
and elegant, and it makes it seem as though the Clear commercials were perfume commercials, which
makes them unique. It makes consumers feel as though they re buying a premium product, even
though the product is actually just about 10 pesos more expensive than regular anti dandruff
shampoos. When we talk

Causes Of The Second Red Scare
The second Red Scare was the hysteria of communism, which was from the late 1940s to the 1950s. It
started during the start of the Cold War, which was the tension between the United States and the
Soviet Union after World War II, because the Soviet Union was Communist and the United States didn
t want Communism to spread more around the world. Americans were afraid that there would be
infiltrations spying and giving secret information about the United States atomic program to the Soviet
Union. During the Red Scare a Republican Senator Joseph McCarthy took advantage of the paranoia
and hysteria that the Americans had to advance politically by accusing employees of communist
leanings. However, they didn t took his accusations as being true,

Implementation of a Management Production Schedule for...
Realco Breadmaster Company It is very important for a business to have a master production schedule
because it enables companies to determine whether or not it is meeting the demands of production.
Businesses without a master production schedule are at a huge disadvantage compared to businesses
that do have a MPS. For example, a business can have many products in stock but can miss out on its
profits due to the holding cost. Not having a MPS can cause businesses to lack in supply which can
result into customers receiving their products very late. A company known as the Realco Breadmaster
Company has experienced what it is like to be in business without a MPS. Johnny Chang, the owner
of the Realco Breadmaster Company, would like to adopt a MPS for Realco so that the company can
get back on its feet. Here s a sketch of the MPS. Demand Management 1st Week 2nd Week 3rd Week

are up, there will be an abundance of inventory left over.

Women as Objects in A Woman on a Roof Essay
Women as Objects in A Woman on a Roof
Doris Lessing s A Woman on a Roof allows us to understand how some men view woman: as mere
objects for display and possession. Lessing shows how each of the male characters reacts and deals
with rejection from a woman sunbathing on a nearby rooftop. We discover how three men s
preoccupation with sex keeps them unaware of how their advances may be unwanted and ignorant of
their action s possible consequences.
All three men share the desire to get this woman s attention. Working on a rooftop of a block of flats
in the hot, hot, sun, these men seek a diversion from the relentless heat. They whistle, yell, and wave
at a near naked woman on a rooftop nearby, but the woman pays no mind ... Show more content on

They report her movements to one another. Stanley likens her presence on her roof to a crime gotten
away with. He states that he would never let his wife do what she is doing (Lessing 857). Acting as
judge and jury, all three men seem to deny her the right to be on her roof doing as she pleases.
The woman acts as if she has managed to escape the mindless need to entertain men (Allen 200). The
woman on the roof has not offered one invitation for comment or attention, yet the men feel she has.
By being caught by their eyes was invitation enough, yet the woman ignores the men no matter what
(Lessing 858). She remains the symbol of a new age woman who disdains harassment from men.
Tom believes he is this woman s hero. Throughout the story he sees himself protecting her from
Stanley s domination (Lessing 858). He feels he is not her harasser and that she must be aware of his
love for her. His dreams of her have convinced him that meeting this woman is in his destiny. He
doesn t interpret her indifference as rejection as Stanley does and has no idea how he will suffer for it
later. Far gone into his fantasy, Tom imagines the nearby crane aiding his heroic rescue of her.
Stanley shows a hatred for this woman s remote coolness (Lessing 858). An attitude not yet displayed
by Tom and long since forgotten by Harry, his anger reveals how he has dealt with the indifference of
women before. Protected for the moment, by this lofty location, Stanley

Causes Of Unemployment In The Great Depression
Throughout history both political parties have struggled with many obstacles in governmental policy.
One policy issue that has been apart of both political platforms for years is unemployment. The
unemployment of the American citizen has been high since the beginning of the Great Depression.
Because of high unemployment rates, the American economy has been spiraling into debt now
reaching seven trillion dollars. This has led both political parties to take aim at one another, blaming
the opposition for the social and economical distress. The problem of wide spread unemployment is
prominent in political platforms throughout the years.
After the stock markets crashed in 1929, the United States was faced with an economical battle it had
never seen before. Unemployment was at an all time high because banks were closing and the
American dollar was seemingly meaningless. This brought on mass hysteria and caused chaos
throughout the American population. The American public started looking to the leaders of this
country for answers. They couldn t find jobs, and what jobs they did find were paying them almost
nothing. The public wanted this problem fixed. During the 1932 election, both the democratic and
republican parties addressed the high unemployment brought on by the depression. The Democratic
nominee, Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR), was convinced that this problem was the fault of the former
president and Republican nominee, for the 1932 election, Herbert Hoover. In his parties

The World is Flat -Chapters 7 8 Essay example The Right Stuff Constant change and a flat, global competitive market landscape were described by Thomas Friedman, author of The World is Flat, as triple convergence and was a result of the ten flatteners. Friedman also stated that in Globalization 1.0, countries had to think globally. In Globalization 2.0, companies had to think globally to thrive, or at least survive. In Globalization 3.0, individuals have to think globally to thrive, or at least survive. (Friedman, 2007) The concept of needing individuals to think globally and thrive in the market led Friedman to travel and report on various educational cultures across the world. Individuals that love learning and are motivated to search for data or self learn will be stewards of their own compounding education. As internet availability has increased social thinking that the source of data that flattens the world is credible and factual. However, students and individuals need to remember that filtering of open source information is critical to understanding the difference between information, facts and wisdom. In 1928 the hurricane that shocked everyone by having many fatalities was hurricane Okeechobee that hit Florida. Since hurricane Okeechobee Florida hadn t experienced a hurricane like that one until hurricane hit in 2009. • 4. What Is The Impact On The Early Development Of Early... Christianity belief is seen more as a theology while Greek thinking or Hellenism is seen more as a philosophy. All theologists are philosophers but not all philosophers are theologists. Greek philosophies had great impact on the early development of Christian thought. Much of the elements in the early Greek philosopher s theories regarding the soul, creation, and salvation were reflected in the development of early Christian thought. The Greeks were tenacious in asking why and how questions concerning those and things around them, and even about themselves. The main purpose behind theology is to understand and follow God s divine revelation. Philosophy tends to arrive to general principles through consideration of what is perceived by the sense, which is then rationally evaluated. Theologists like Augustine and Thomas Aquinas both discovered the use of Aristotle in the formation of the Christian mind. Aristotle, a Greek philosopher, believed that all humans had a purpose and that the purpose was for the greater good. However, the good life or the blessed life for Aquinas and Augustine was heaven. For Greek thinkers like Aristotle or even Plato, human actions derived from reason, rationality, and intellect. Christian thinkers like Augustine saw philosophical reflection as a complement to theology. Those philosophical reflections were based off of the underlying intellectual commitment of the Christian Faith. The thoughts of both Augustine and Thomas Aquinas ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. How Did Pirenne Contribute To The Decline Of Civilization Pirenne As a Belgian historian, Henri Pirenne challenged the long held belief that the decline of civilization occurred because of the Germanic invasions in the Roman Empire. Renaissance and Reformation thinkers, Enlightenment philosophers, and Modernist historians all pointed to the Germanic invasions that begin in the fifth century as giving rise to the decline and fall of the Roman Empire. Instead, Pirenne points to the swift and surprising spread of Islam as the reason behind the break with traditional antiquity. Islam cut off trade in the Mediterranean, thus making the Mediterranean Sea and Musulman lake. For the first time in history, the center of life shifted northward from the Mediterranean. Pierenne states that although there was a flood of Germanic immigration to the Roman Empire, the invaders were simply absorbed into the Empire. The German language died away. The Gothic conception of royalty was lost. All Germanic law was crushed and the organization of the judiciary was entirely Roman. In Spain and Gaul, the Germanic character was modified by Roman manners and Roman institutions. In the Empire, royal insignia went from Germanic to Roman. In the first decade of the 20th century, advances in halftone printing allowed fashion photographs to be featured in magazines. Fashion photography made its first appearance in French magazines such as La mode practique. In 1909, Condé Nast took over Vogue magazine and also contributed to the beginnings of fashion photography. Special emphasis was placed on staging the shots, a process first developed by Baron Adolf de Meyer, who shot his models in natural environments and poses. Vogue was followed by its rival, Harper s Bazaar, and the two companies were leaders in the field of fashion photography throughout the 1920s and 1930s. Hillary Clinton was the first Democrat to throw her hat in the ring and right away the Republican Party began attacking her for using her personal email and business email together. They also more than insinuated that she had deleted some of the emails from the server she had at her home and accused her of lying about it. However, whether she did or didn t delete some of her emails is irrelevant to me because most if not all politicians lie in one form or another to protect their interest. That s just a fact! I know some of you will raise your eyebrows and say, I can t believe she said that...well, I did and I mean it. In Hillary s position, I don t believe I would have turned all my emails over to anyone. I can remember coming in late to my job one day and found that my computer had been hijacked by the compliance and auditing department. I was given some lie about someone had gone to the press and put out bad or negative information about the company and I was told that I and a few others were thought to be among the culprits. At the time, I can recall feeling a tremendous invasion of privacy and I didn t believe I had done anything to raise any suspicion about me. However, it took me ten years, after leaving the company, to figure out that I was told a lie and that I was in fact, being investigated. Why, well it all goes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five Slaughterhouse Five Thematic Book Review Kurt Vonnegut is often considered one of the greatest American authors of the twentieth century. His unmatched style and prose set him apart from all others. Vonnegut describes real situations and works through difficulties in his own life by writing, as weird and odd as his books are. In Slaughterhouse Five, Vonnegut describes some of his personal experiences along with mixing in science fiction to get his points and ideas across. In writing this book, Vonnegut intended to describe the true horrors of war and how they affect a person s mind. He is saying that everyone sees things differently and interprets everything in a unique way. Slaughterhouse Five included elements of postmodernism, realism, ... Modernism also believes that all problems can be solved with new inventions and innovations, along with a truth that can be searched for and found if you persist in pursuing the truth. There is really no meaning behind much of Slaughterhouse Five, and there definitely is no truth in the book to be found. This is evidenced in many points in the book, like one where Billy looked down the street, saw a new Buick... He closed his eyes, and opened them again. He was still weeping, but he was back in Luxembourg again. (Vonnegut 63). This passage, talking about Billy traveling back in time to World War II, refers to the lack of meaning of time in the book. The book jumps around in time and continually just talks about random events that relate to Billy Pilgrim. The book also debunks the Modernist idea that all problems can be solved with new inventions. Responding to Billy s question about how the Universe ends, the Tralfamadorians reply We blow it up, experimenting with new fuels for our flying saucers. (117 ). This is a direct blow to Modernism, stating how new inventions are not for the best or necessarily useful. The book also goes against the Modernist idea of the American dream, with Billy Pilgrim just wanting to be left alone. For example, the storytelling of each show, the platforms, and the classification of characters. There are even claims that lead to believe Grey s Anatomy copied Scrubs. In Grey s Anatomy, it starts off with Meredith Gray being the main character and narrating throughout most of the episodes. The interns in Grey s Anatomy are more competitive and confident in performing daily procedures, but in Scrubs the interns try to be competitive and are not very confident in hard situations. Another difference is that In Grey s Anatomy the scenes are centered around drama and romance that there is going on around the hospital, with some humor and on Scrubs it is more about jokes and sometimes drama. And of course, the nurses are viewed differently in both shows, In Grey s Anatomy the nurses are not treated well and are ranked lower than the doctors. In Scrubs the nurses are a big help and include funny aspects of them being better than the intern doctors. Jefferson seemed to be very familiar with the French, according to his past, due to the time he spent in Europe as an American envoy. He also understood the danger which potential military posed. A French regime also posed as a neighbor that took control of the gorgeous land .One that would double the size of the country and put the United States in a position to become a world power. However he Louisiana territorial purchase was not as easy of a business process as one might think. It seemed to be very rushed, stressful process that caused President Thomas Jefferson a huge amount of mental and emotional issues, although at the end it was worth the stress because the purchase did include many advantages. First off, one advantage Jefferson received by the purchase of the territory was the U.S gained control over New Orleans and Mississippi river. In an article written by Lydia Pick ham she states in the days before canals and railroads, rivers were the only way to ship goods from one point to the other, further, the port city of New Orleans, was vital to the further development of the American economy. The Boiling Frog Theory on Population The Boiling Frog Theory on Population Systems thinkers have given us a useful metaphor for a certain kind of human behavior in the phenomenon of the boiled frog. The phenomenon is this. If you drop a frog in a pot of boiling water, it will of course frantically try to clamber out. But if you place it gently in a pot of tepid water and turn the heat on low, it will float there quite placidly. As the water gradually heats up, the frog will sink into a tranquil stupor, exactly like one of us in a hot bath, and before long, with a smile on its face, it will unresistingly allow itself to be boiled to death. Ethnologists, students of animal behavior, and a few philosophers who have considered the matter know that there is a form of ethics practiced in the community of life on this planet apart from us, that is. This is a very practical (you might say Darwinian) sort of ethics, since it serves to safeguard and promote biological diversity within the community. According to this ethics, followed by every sort of creature within the community of life, sharks as well as sheep, killer bees as well as butterflies, you may compete to the full extent of your capabilities, but you may not hunt down your competitors or destroy their food or deny them access to food. In other words, you may compete but you may not wage war. This ethics is violated at every point by practitioners of totalitarian agriculture. We hunt down our competitors, we destroy their food, and we deny them access to food. That indeed is the whole purpose and point of totalitarian agriculture. Totalitarian agriculture is based on the premise that all the food in the world belongs to us, and there is no limit whatever to what we may take for ourselves and deny to all others. Totalitarian agriculture was not adopted in our culture out of sheer meanness. It was adopted because, by its very nature, it s more productive than any other style (and there are many other styles). • 22. How Religion Changes The Societal Behavior Of The... Observing the daily lifestyles of the individuals from different time periods show a great deal of how the religion changes the societal behavior of the followers of each religion. The religion s form of worshipping a God is a reputable indicator of the era s culture. While looking into The Iliad, we find that the culture of that time highlights warfare and worshipping multiple Gods. This polytheistic culture differs greatly from the culture of The Torah, which was the first established religion that believed in teaching a monotheistic education, believing in one God. Furthermore, one can see in The New Testament that they also worship one God in addition to following the teachings of Jesus. This creates a difference in cultures as this changes the way people worship their God/Gods. The transition into the first millennium brought many changes as new religions appeared and there became a diversity in beliefs. Through looking at The Homeric Era, The Hellenic Era, and The Roman Era, the differences within these time periods are shown through the transformation of each religion s form of worship as a ritual. In the Homeric Era, society is polytheistic and has a unique set of rituals. In order to worship the Gods they believe in, they carry out sacrifices and pray to different Gods for different needs. The Gods will intermittently accept these sacrifices and provide something to the people in return. It is perceived as an appeal to the Gods as the people believed that when ... Branagh s act three is superior in this aspect since Hamlet is not a powerful man but is actually more of a coward and so portraying him physically abusing other characters does not make any sense. Branagh s portrayal of the queen is also greater than the other two. Gertrude has a lot more power in his version and is able to stand her ground against Hamlet; she is also the only one not to have a sexual encounter with Hamlet.
