I Learned About College University Of Nebraska Wesleyan...
This semester through my Archway seminar I learned many things. Not just about college but
specifically about the University of Nebraska Wesleyan and how the schooling here works. The
Archway seminar is designed to be an intro class into learning how to college and it was really an
eye opener for me. Through the assignments of our active reading journals I learned how to look
deeper into thing and really explore their entire meaning. Taking something simple that I read and
writing about experiences and what I thoughtabout it really help this ability grow throughout the
semester. Through the discussion in this class I learned a lot more about each chapter. I looked
forward to the discussion because I enjoyed hearing everyone else s way of thinking. Something s
mentioned in the discussion I would have never thought about. Although I didn t participate in the
discussion as much as others I felt like it got better throughout the semester. I have never really
been one to open up to big crowds and share my opinion. Due to many reasons. But the discussion
allowed me to tear down a little bit of that wall. Both of these experiences are something I know I
will experience throughout my entire college career and learningthem the first semester is
something that will really help me along the way. In the book On Looking the most significant part
of this book to me was the just how it opened my mindto the world. This book showed me specific
things and details that I had never

Penn Station Thesis
Being a part of a community is something different in this world full of hate, but one can still
hate people in his/her community. Therefore, what s the point of having a community? In a world
full of differences, what is pulling everyone together? Penn Station. It has been around for a long
time and still remains a significant part of travel. America has been full of people traveling since it
was founded; that s how America was settled and how it grew to be so large. The expansion in the
country allowed Penn Station to make its mark, creating a city within a city, intertwining people.

It has given to some a home off the street and has been a place of escape. Jennifer Toth explains
in her book, Mole People: Life in the Tunnels Beneath New York City, that there are hard times.
The tunnels around Penn Station were settled and inhabited by a group of people including a
man named Frederick. He had a rough upbringing that affected the rest of his life. He was
accepted by the many people around this area of Penn Station, finally getting a home in this big
city. It framed Frederick and helped him come up with his future dream. Even in this difficult
world, the man still had somewhere to go, with someone to look after him, and have the chance
to succeed (Toth). The rough beginning of his life did not affect him with doing something with
his life, in helping create the tunnels for more trains to come into Penn Station, and something
that has significance to others. Penn Station might have changed people and society, but in the
end, society has definitely had an impact on Penn Station itself. Doctorow also explains how
diverse Penn Station is in just 100 and some words. He describes some refugees sitting on a
bench and also a young girl and her father, who are regular citizens trying to get away from the
city, which explains how diverse this one location is. The girl also reveals the aspect of a small
city through the narrator explaining to the reader how she was watching the many people

The Performance Of Sense And Sensibility
I went to the performance of Sense and Sensibility on Thursday night and I sat in the second row,
which was very close to the performance. The layout of the theatre definitely provided a different
perspective depending on where the audience member sat. The theatre was close to completely
filled, but there were still a few seats that were empty. Overall the show was my favorite one yet
that I have attended at W L. Sense and Sensibilityis written by Kate Hamill who based the script
off the novel that was written by Jane Austen. The performance was directed by Stephanie
Sandberg and it was presented by the W L Department of Theater, Dance, and Film Studies with
special arrangements from Dramatists Play Service Inc. The performers were made up of
predominately W L students and after reading their bios it became clear to me that the performers
come from many different backgrounds and they have varying levels of experience performing.
The audience was made up of primarily elderly couples and families from the surrounding
Rockbridge area. I saw some professors in the audience with their families which was great to see.
W L students were definitely the minority in the audience that night. The audience reacted very
strongly to the actors performance and some members in the front row were actually part of the
performance. The room was very tight and was surrounded by stands where the audience was only
feet from the actual performance. During the performance the

Disadvantages Of GPS Trackers
Today, one of the biggest fears of pet owners is losing their pets, the sole prerogative of keeping
your pet safe is your responsibility. Unfortunately, people lose their pets on a daily basis, this
scenario is avoidable and can be prevented by the use of GPS tracker for your dogs and pets. GPS
trackers are more efficient than implanting a microchip on your animals because they hardly fall
off, they are waterproof and sturdy.
Advantages of GPS Trackers for Pets
It provides a real time monitoring of your pet s whereabouts.
It is easy to use; with a touch of a button, you can access where your pets are and what is happening
to them.
Today, some technologically advanced trackers can be linked to your phone and computer to
monitor your pets easily.

The Supplemental Nutrition Program For Women
The Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) was started in
1972, and was permanently established in 1974 by the USDA (WIC Fact Sheet, 2015; Brown,
2011). WIC was established to safeguard the health of women, infants, and children up to age five
who are low income and at nutritional risk; their mission is carried out by means of supplementing
diets by providing access to nutritious foods, nutritioneducation, breastfeeding education,
breastfeeding promotion, breastfeeding support, and referrals to healthand other social service
agencies (WIC Fact Sheet, 2015). WIC is one of the most successful nutrition programs in the
United States that is federally funded; it has served approximately 5.7 million children and 1.8
million women in fiscal years 2001 2003 (Brown, 2011). WIC is not an entitlement program as
Congress does not set aside funds to allow every eligible individual to participate in the program.
WIC is a Federal grant program for which Congress authorizes a specific amount of funds each
year for the program. (WIC at a Glance, 2015, p. 1). WIC is directed by the Food and Nutrition
Service at the Federal level and run by 90 WIC state agencies that operates through 1,900 local
agencies in 10,000 clinic sites, in 50 State health departments, 34 Indian Tribal Organizations, the
District of Columbia, Northern Mariana, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin

Villains Persuasive Speech

A friend introduced me to your fabulous podcast a couple years ago and I m so glad she did. I
learn so much and I feel I m a much more interesting conversationalist due to listening to you.
I m writing in response to your villainesses episode. I waited for you to mention the TV show
Once Upon a Time. While it is based on the animated Disney canon, the narratives are constantly
changed. One of the main storylines revolves around The Evil Queen of Snow White as she
vacillates between being a villain and a hero. In season 4, a good part of the season was dedicated
to female villains. While their motivations are often centered around men, nevertheless this show is
full of female villains.

Future And Future Of Implants
Future of Implants
When I asked Dr. Marko about what he thinks will happen to implants in the future he stated: I
expect that it will expand. He explained that current DBS technologies are seeing expanding
indications for more and more diseases with good results. But beyond this, there are whole new
domains of brain implants coming online and in the research pipeline. These include the whole
field of brain computer interface, which allows the brain to control machines (e.g. prosthetic
limbs). This is very promising, and some examples are already making it to real world
application. Additional implants designed to improve memory, etc. are also being developed. The
future of those is less certain, but I suspect they will improve and start to see practical application
as time goes on [Marko].
One strong belief about the future of implants is that they will significantly reduce in size;
nanoscale implants will be fully developed and will be comprised of materials with increased
longevity so that there will be no need of additional surgeries for repair or replacements. With
continued research and development of implants and advancements are made as a result of the
Blue Brain Project, implants will be able to mend the symptoms of a larger range of diseases. This
is extremely important, for millions of people will regain their abilities that were taken from them
by a disease.
Currently, deep brain stimulation implants focus on enhancing motor functions or mood. The deep

If you could imagine design in the future, what would you imagine? A virtual house, flying cars,
or how about holograms. Design is the process to plan or draw the show, look, function or
workings of a building, garment, or other objects before it is built or made. It is twenty seventeen
and we have already begun to see the future. In the past, design was beautiful, but simplistic. Now,
everthing is changing expediently. I speculate that with a touch of your cell phone a housewill be

Engineering and design will become more correspondent to one another. We already use
engineering in calculating certain aspects (variables) when creating a new design, but it will
officially merge. In the past, design was done with simple artistic methods such as pencil and
paper, but now we have CAD and many more software programs. New apps will be created,
allowing us to do as we please with such designs. In about twenty years, design will become
more evolutionary than ever. From flying cars to smart houses, 2045 will begin the new destiny
of everything revolutionizing. Design is prevailing with the new technology that we use daily.
Designers are always pushing forward with new ideas, leaving the next group of young
innovators to work ten times harder for that next big idea. Ideas come and goes and so does the
brains behind the designs, but one thing is for sure, design will be bigger than we know

Alaska Income Tax
On September 24, 1980, former state Governor Jay Hammond signed into law a bill that meant
no more Alaska income tax. With the stroke of a pen, Alaska became the last state to abolish a
state tax on personal income. Now, 35 years later, Alaska is one of seven states that don t collect
taxes on earned income and the distant state s success speaks volumes about the benefits of
reducing this type of taxburden on residents.
Alaska Not Always as Free
Alaska has a long history with state taxation; in 1949, the first state income tax became law, ten
years before they officially became a U.S. state on January 3, 1959. The first income tax regulations
were simple, but still heavily taxing on a state already burdened by the high costs of living.

With no more Alaska income tax, the state is more appealing to potential residents and businesses,
which is important when you re as isolated as Alaska. Some may say the cold weather is a
deterrence. However, the state s unemployment rate was the lowest in the country from November
of 2008 until April of 2014. While everyone from the U.S. mainland struggled to find employment,
Alaska s residents weren t as unlucky.
The physical isolation and harsh climate of America s northernmost state drives inflation. Even
without an income or sales tax, Alaska still has the one of the highest cost of living in the
country. Despite the inflation on imports, the beauty residents see every day when they walk out

Essay on Built To Last
To be successful in today s global marketplace, an organization must learn to adapt in order to stay
one step ahead of the competition. Mission statements, goal setting, and planning methods alone are
simply not enough anymore. Management fads have given way to time tested management
principles that distinguish good companies from truly great companies. Many organizations have
found success by utilizing a technique of balancing their core ideology, stimulating progress, and
seeking support by aligning company objectives, strategies, and policies. These companies are
what Jim Collins and Jerry Porras call visionary . Built to Last seeks to discover these timeless
managementprinciples that make a company truly visionary (Collins ... Show more content on

In this type of organization, the company itself is its own greatest product. Collins and Porras
conclude, The continual stream of great products and services from highly visionary companies
stems from them being outstanding organizations, not the other way around (Collins Porras,
2002). For example, to many people, William McKnight is not a household name. However, Mr.
McKnight was a top executive of the visionary 3M Corporation for over fifty years.
At the heart of every visionary company lie its core ideology, or those values and beliefs that
form the foundation of a company s existence. Seeing how the visionary companies evolved over
most of the last century let the authors observe that while the companies were continually
changing in response to the market and to their customers, they had an overall set of core values
to which they held constant. The comparison companies often lost ground when they changed
their focus, swayed by the desire to maximize shareholder wealth. This idea is illustrated by a
quote from David Packard, Profit is not the proper end and aim of management it is what makes
all of the proper ends and aims possible (Collins Porras). The visionary companies stood for
something more than profits, more than maximizing shareholder wealth. Core ideologies drive
visionary companies, not profit alone. This common balancing act among visionary companies is

Black Convict Response To Claude Brown
My thoughts on the young black convict response to Claude Brown is that it is very sad and
disturbing because there are so many minorities with this outlook on life. I think that it is very
unfortunate that we as blacks allow our circumstances to make us think that criminal activity is the
only way to have a better life. I think that we have become so a custom to the disadvantages that we
don t think there is a better life outside of criminal activity. Although, many African Americans are
living in impoverished neighborhoods and have other disadvantages, I still think that there should
be some type of motivation within our ethnic group to want to do better and accomplish more out
of life. According to the course text, the reason that some

The Perception Of The Human Sciences
Each of us are different in many ways and that fact cannot possible be disputed by anyone who
has any back ground in the human sciences, as it has been scientifically proven that we all have
unique finger prints, DNA, hair, looks, behavior and facial expressions and the combination of
these things make us unique personality types so to speak. We also function from two different
perspectives and we need to understand how each one of us functions. We each like to think that
we are special (which we are) and in that portrayal system, we mostly portray what we perceive
we want people to think about us. On the other side of the coin we have a reality in what we
truly believe about ourselves and the way we feel inwardly. Many of us become disillusioned
with our true inner picture, simple because of a misunderstanding of our personal purpose in life.
The fact that we allow this dissatisfaction to creep into our lives, we create an inner insecurity
within ourselves and we then start looking at others or alternatively we start behaving like others,
which is completely outside our true personality, thereby attempting to look different, behave
different, think different, dress different and when looking at our big picture, become dissatisfied
with our true personality, allowing society to name us as a personality type which is definitely
going to influence our level to be successful in life. Society has made us believe that we need to
conform to a standard of behavior, which then

Meiosis In Children Lab Report
Introduction Ever wonder how children inherit their parent s traits? Though every human being is
unique, there are often family shared traits that stand out from family to family. Family similarities
occur because children inherit genes from their parents. Genes are genetic information that
contributes to what traits children get, or don t get, from their parents. A child s genetic information
is shared through tetrads. Tetrads are homologous pairs that carry genes controlling the same
inherited trait. Tetrads are exchanged and distributed to the child during the process of meiosis.

Also, to possibly explore how meiosis ensures new traits and diversity. The data showed that when
going through the meiosis simulation there will be different varieties and possibilities of ending
chromosomes in the four haploid daughter cells. The genetic information of the chromosomes
began to change during prophase. Here, the homologous chromosomes are coming closer to form
tetrads and are exchanging segments of adjacent non sister chromatids. The chromatids can do this
by breaking and reattaching to the other chromatids, this is called crossing over. After this each
ending chromosome varied in genetic information. The completion of the lab the results in 4
haploid cells, each with a unique set of chromosomes. Therefore, the outcome of meiosis will

The Development of Civilization Essay
The Development of Civilization
Our civilizations are merely a wrinkle in time. Billions of years ago, during the Paleolithic Culture
people had only knowledge for basic survival. The Stone Age was a time for hunting and gathering,
building tools, and making fire. As the human race evolved, so did the culture. This is when the
Neolithic Culture was born. People started taking control. Farms sprang up and sedentary villages
began to take form. Amazingly, not too far from these progressing cultures grew civilizations.
When one wants to look at the true heart of a civilization, they must first understand the civilization

The Athenians were superbly educated in the arts and sciences, and trained to be extremely
productive in times of war and peace. When looking at their educational and philosophical output it
is simple to see that the Athenian people valued their futures.
Without educational programs for the Athenian youths, Athena would have lost their civilization
long before it initially peaked. Undoubtedly, Athenian people had a productive social
consciousness, and realized that education and knowledge was quite important. They knew that the
future of their city state depended on the smarts of the people in it. Social awareness was not
usually number one to people back then. Normally, city states were concerned with war and
gaining land. While the gross majority of Greece were fighting and stealing, Athenians were busily
figuring out the philosophy of life. Clearly, the Athenians were socially aware of what was going on
in their lives, through education and philosophy.
The Spartans on the other hand were more concerned with being brute and strong against their
enemies. A typical Spartan soldier would have to endure unbelievable pain and hardship to become
a respected Spartan and citizen. Their moral standards must have influenced them to exploit their
respect toward physical pain and suffering. Many historians believe Spartans were cunning, lying
cheaters. There were even

Bourdieu Habitus Concept
Introduction The French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu approaches the concept of power using a
similar concept with Foucault which they presume that power is that there are always structures
that are formed by human relationships which dictates how people should behave. These
structures influence the individual social life. However, Foucault criticized that he has concept
that is radical and broader making it difficult to identify any social context of where the action of
exercise of power occurs (Gaventa, 2003). Unlike Bourdieu who narrows down it in terms of
symbolically mediated interaction between the Habitus and social structure (Bourdieu, 1991).
Culture is example of this symbolic interaction. The main aim of the essay is to first define
culture. Secondly, define what Habitus is and explain how it develops through cultural capital.

The Night of Fire
The Night (Fire engine, boys, rain)
April 24th, 2012; the sound of the news on the television hums in the background drowned out
by people talking and laughing. Fire Station 141 is buzzing with life; everything is in calm and
peaceful; when suddenly a loud screaming sound rings through the brick walls. All of the men in
the station startle to attention and rush around in organized chaos. The shuffling of boots on the
smooth concrete floors and ruffling of thick fire suits is drowned out by the resounding alarm.
The men pile into the large red trucks and screech out of the station. The alarm becomes silent
and the station is abandoned and the only sound it the news humming in the background. The
men hardly fit in the small quarters of the truck. The smell of burnt rubber and gasoline fill the
cramped space. The sirens atop the thick metal roof of the truck bounce back and forth on houses
and cars nearby. Dark clouds start to form above the speeding truck and soon the rain is playing a
soft beat on the roof. The cold weather creates a pale fog against the window. Everything starts to
slow down and become faded, the dark night outside the window now is everywhere and a group of
boys are playing baseball. The ball is a dirty cream color and is throwing off water as it spins
through the air, then smack it hits a leather glove with an explosion of water up into a young boy s
smiling face. There is a newspaper on the ground that is soaked but the date says April 24th, 1986.

Labeling Youths...and The Consequences Thereof
A child s self esteem often times comes from their status in a group of their peers, their family,
school life and in society. With that in mind, society still decides to label youths as deviants,
delinquents and status offenders ultimately changing their own views on their self image. This
affects the way youths think about themselves and how they will play a role in society. It also
affects the way society will later treat them and whether or not they become an outsider. Labeling
youths is an unnecessary evil that often times changes children into criminals. To understand
labeling we must first look at its definition. Labeling Theoryis a theoretical approach to deviant
behavior, basically stating that applying formal definitions to an... Show more content on

If the judge concludes that the juvenile committed the offense, the judge does not find the juvenile
guilty but delinquent . (Fagin 241) The judge also has the ability of sentencing the delinquent to
community service, a juvenile detention center or another fit form of punishment. Authorities and
teachers then treat delinquent children differently and several studies suggested that under certain
circumstances, official punishment appears to increase the likelihood of subsequent deviance as
suggested by labeling theory. (Bartollas 130)
Labeling is not just found in society and the justice system or at home. It usually begins at
school where a child s achievements, behavior and temperament are placed on a scale to
determine normalcy. Should a child be difficult to manage, a slow learner or aggressive they may
be diagnosed with ADD, ADHD or placed in Special Needs/Education classes. This separates them
from their friends and other children inadvertently labeling them as different. The treatment of
these children is different than those in regular classes and programs. Sometimes children may not
be able to perform satisfactorily in school which leads them to become disruptive, decide to drop
out or are suspended all of which further reinforces involvement in deviant behavior. (Bartollas 207)
Without a proper education children grow and fend for themselves. They are left with minimum

Analysis Of Darius Milhaud, A French Composer
When Africans were sold as slaves to Central and South America in the 16th and 17th centuries,
they continued to make marimbas there. The instruments underwent further development on the
American continent, especially in Mexico, Guatemala and Brazil ( Marimbaphone , 2003). In these
countries the calabashes were replaced by precisely tuned wood resonator chambers.
In Latin America, the name marimba refers to every kind of large xylophone with calabashes as
resonators of the type that originated from Africa. The name marimba was eventually applied to the
concert and orchestra instrument that had been inspired by the Latin American model (
Marimbaphone , 2003). Darius Milhaud, a French composer, made the marimba popular and gave it

Steel Drum. The steel drum is a skillfully hammered 55 gallon oil barrel which has been carefully
tuned by hand to produce perfect musical tones ( Steel Pan History , 2017). It was developed on
the Caribbean island of Trinidad during the early years of the 20th century. Old rubbish tins, care
parts, and garbage can lids formed the first Iron Bands , which led to the realization that a dented
section of a barrel head could produce a musical note. Careful refinement of this discovery produced
the modern steel drum that is now often seen being played by street musicians.
Conclusion
Percussion has evolved throughout its history into what it is today. Melodic instruments have
several origins, the two main origins being Eastern Asia and Africa. In each culture their first
intended use was for religion and war. Melodic percussion instruments, like most instruments, are
now used for less serious events than their original uses. Rather than being linked to war and
religion, a majority of melodic percussion is used for entertainment. Along with the change of
melodic percussion s contributions in war and religion, comes the advancement melodic percussion
has made for entertainment. Today they are played in most places around the world in ensembles or
even on streets during street performances. Although the instruments belonging to melodic
percussion can be played and enjoyed on their own, the main purpose of a melodic percussion
instrument now usually lies

Absorbance Values
Abstract:
Claims were made that manufacturers had improperly labeled protein concentrations on their
products. Concentrations of these three different protein containing liquids, whole milk, soy milk,
and a protein solution were determined using a Bradford dye reagent and a spectrophotometer to
measure the absorbance of each. Absorbance of a set of standard known protein concentrations from
a range of 0.125 mg/ml to 2.000 mg/ml were measured using the spectrophotometer at a set
wavelength and this data was plotted. The equation generated from the best fit line of this data was
used to determine the unknown concentrations of the three different samples. These values were
then compared to the protein concentrations obtained from the corresponding ... Show more content

This would indicate that either the food labels or the calculated data are incorrect. The data was
dependent on a linear relationship between absorbance and protein concentration. However, the
linear relationship was based on only seven data points, two of which were omitted due to
inconsistency, and was only representative up to 2.000 mg/ml protein concentration. Because the
data sample was small and covered a small range of concentrations, the food label concentrations
cannot be determined as inaccurate. The more likely cause would be that the linearity assumption

The Destruction of Yellow Fever
A disease that has yet to be conquered (Barrett Higgs, 2007). Such a quaint, simplistic phrase that
yet effectively describes the disease commonly known today as yellow fever. Over the course of
history, the yellow fever virus (YFV) has decimated populations in various regions all across the
globe. While the overall gross impact of yellow feverhas declined over the years, the virus still
poses a significant threat present day, especially to those in the developing world. The World Health
Organization currently estimates that approximately 200,000 cases of yellow fever occur around
the world each year, resulting in 30,000 fatalities (Bundschuh et al, 2013). Presently, yellow fever
remains without a legitimate cure, and the best defence against the virus lies with preventative
action. WHO identifies its three major yellow fever prevention strategies as vaccination, mosquito
control, and epidemic response (WHO Yellow Fever Fact Sheet, 2014). This being said, through
the combined efforts of scientists, medical workers, governments, and international agencies alike,
the yellow fever virus has been confined to endemic areas throughout Africa and Latin America
(Barrett Higgs, 2007, p.209). With regards to the epidemiological nature of yellow fever,
geographic factors and influences clearly play a significant role. Environments, both physical and
human (ie. social), directly correlate to how the virus behaves, adapts, and survives. Through the

Comparison Of Shirley Hutchinson And The Lottery
Compare and Contrast Essay
To start, the theme I chose for these two articles that we will be comparing and contrasting is
standing up for what is right may not be the easiest path. This means that when you are thinking
about standing up for someone and no one else starts to, it may be hard for you to start standing up
for someone. In The Lottery Tessie Hutchinson and her family live in a town that do this thing
called the lottery, but you don t win any money during this lottery , you get the prize of death. In
First They Came... Martin Niemoller expresses his point of view on how he did not speak out
for people in danger, when he should have. I chose this theme, because in both The Lottery by
Shirley Jackson and First They Came... by Martin Niemoller there are some people that could
have stood up for each other but no one around them did so they didn t want to. These two
articles are alike, because people die in both of these events . This shows that in First They
Came and The Lottery that people in the village or different groups of people were too afraid of
standing up for Tessie, or the Socialists, Trade Unionists, or the Jews. On one hand, The Lottery by
Shirley Jackson is a fictional short story about well the lottery, but it is not the lottery that you
think of when you hear that word. The Claim of this essay is standing up for what is right may
not be the easiest path. Evidence that supports this claim is Suddenly, Tessie Hutchinson shouted
to Mr. Summers, You didn t give him enough time to take any paper he wanted. I saw you. It
wasn t fair! This quote means that Tessie Hutchinson was trying to stand up for her husband Bill
Hutchinson. However, after she does this the crowd goes after her telling her Be a good sport,
Tessie Mrs. Delacroix called, and Mrs. Graves said All of us took the same chance shut up, Tessie
Bill Hutchinson said . This means Tessie tried to stand up for her husband and it clearly was not
easy. I think we ought to start over, Mrs. Hutchinson said, as quietly as she could I tell you it wasn
t fair. You didn t give him enough time to choose. Everybody saw that This quote means that Tessie
was still trying to stand up for her family and no one listened

Literary Analysis Of The Mill On The Floss
The Mill on the Floss was unlike any production I ve ever seen. Over and over again, different
production choices made me raise an eyebrow, but after chewing on them, those deliberate
decisions made sense. Ultimately, the play s use of unrealistic elements served as a means for the
audience to step further into Maggie s life and to glean greater meaning from the production. This
could be seen in numerous places throughout the play: when cousin Lucy was portrayed as a doll,
when Maggie was portrayed by three different people and when she symbolically drowned on
the ducking chair (Edmundsen Houghton). All of those instances came together to create a
harmony in the play. In one of the first obvious moments of the theatricalized nature of the play,
Maggie s family rolled on her cousin, Lucy (more or less). She was a child sized mannequin.
While at first glance this seemed like a stale joke, I began to realize that from Maggie s point of
view, Lucy was the doll. Fragile, delicate, quiet and lady like in every way. Maggie, on the other
hand, saw herself as a wicked wench (as her father lovingly called her). She read books down by
the river, only to return with her hair ratted and matted every which way (Edmundsen Houghton).
In her own eyes, she could never be as obedient and loved as Lucy. The simple choiceof using the
doll brought about a completely new perspective that allowed audiencemembers to interpret and
learn differently. Another highly theatricalized moment in

Uniform policies should begin to be mandatory for junior high students through the end of the high
school tenure. A traditional schooluniform may include, White button down shirts and ties for
boys, pleated skirts for girls and blazers adorned with the school logo for all. Another school may
simply require that all shirts have collars (Wilde). This simple and built to last outfit can help
students stay focused on education rather than worrying about their clothing choices. Politician and
former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, believes introducing school uniforms is a productive
way to implement the focus on learning and limit the attention on what the students are wearing (
Should Students ). With uniforms, discipline is put into place as fewer debates occur between
parents and children regarding what the child will be wearing to school (Kouzmine). School
uniforms are not just easier for parents, the uniforms also make mornings easier for students. Along
with reducing arguments and stress, school uniforms encourage unity in the halls while providing
discipline.
Uniforms in schools could help make the school a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.
Unfortunately, hazing is a major problem among students in schools. A large sum of bullying
would be decreased if all students wore a similar outfit to school each day. Research conducted by

Equality In The 1860 s
Due to the heightening tensions within the ideas of equality, a fire was ignited and a rebellion had
begun. Many argued about the inequality of women and slaves. The arguments came from the
disproportion in wealth, the beliefs from christianity and the changing ideas of republicanism.
These ideas and thoughts have been spread through many public speakers and writers throughout
the 1840 s 1860 s. These speakers included: Frederick Douglass, David Walker, Lucy Stone,
Lucretia Mott, the authors of Mechanics Union Preamble and the Ten Hour Circular. All of these
authors ideas curved together at a crucial time in history. The activists of women s rights were

The workers had began to rise up; this event seemed to be the final piece to push society
together. It was shown that every citizen yearned for their slice of equality and freedom. The
authors of Mechanics Union Preamble had started the first pretion to raise workers wages,
regain the respect of craftsmen embedded in the desensitization from the Market Revolution
and obtain equality for all manual laborers. The workers wages were below a sustainable
lifestyle, they were unable to support their families or buy the clothes they produced. The low
pay came from the business owners taking a large portion of the profits to live in luxury. This
separation between luxury and poor started a shift in republican values. The shift caused a
feeling of disconnect and inequality in all of the citizens builded from the advancement of
technology. When taxes were implemented, the price of travel and food grew. The business
owners pockets grew but the worker never received a pay raise. This large divide along side
hours of working created tired and unhappy citizens. It also disconnected the workers from their
families from long days and exhaustion. The Ten Hour circular petitioned in the want of ten hour
days for happiness and higher quality products. Except the business owners had begun to slander

Code Switching Of English In Bollywood
Research Question 3 How English is used in Bollywood films ? 1.Code switching with English
in the Indian situation English in Bollywood frequently takes the form of code switching. In a
bilingual speech community, speakers tend to mix words, phrases, clauses and sentences when
they communicate with others. They are able to switch linguistically built upon different
situations. When two languages are expressed in this way, they differ remarkable from the same
languages as spoken in their separate social systems. This kind of interference on the discourse
level is known as code switching (Malhotra, S. 1980). Since 1957, English was spoken by upper

The Cloning Debate
According to Mosby s Medical Dictionary, the term cloning is defined as a procedure for
producing multiple copies of genetically identical organisms or cells or of individual genes.
Researchers have conducted several cloning experiments over the years, replicating tissues,
organs, and even full organisms such as Dolly the Sheep in 1997. The history of cloning dates
back to the early 1900 s when Hans Adolf Edward Dreisch studied the results of separating two
celled sea urchin embryos ( The History of Cloning ). The process has since evolved and become a
process that is widely talked about amongst doctors, scientists and the general public. The process
of cloning has been predicted to play a significant role in medical advancements in the near future.
The main areas of which cloning could potentially affect are treatments for various diseases through
organ replacement and infertility. As many topics in science, controversy exists regarding the
subject of cloning in addition to its advantages and disadvantages.
One advantage of cloning is the ability to produce organs and tissues for diseases and medical
conditions that require transplantation. The national waitlist for organ donation consists of more
than one hundred thousand patients and increases by nearly four thousand patients a day ( Organ
Donation and Transplantation ). The amount of donors is much less in comparison to the number
of recipients. As of 2013,

The Foreclosure Of The Last Couple Years
Foreclosure in the last couple years has become a well known word to a lot of young people, and
has become more frequent in the last couple of years. My family has gone through the process
and it was a very emotional time for us all. The only home my family was able to get into was one
that could be rented with the option to buy. Having more homes in the market that have that option
makes it not only more convenient, but more affordable for families like mine who have gone
through foreclosure. Giving possible tenants the option to rent towards owing is a great way to get
the housing market back on track. People who are struggling financially cannot afford to just buy a
home. Allowing people the option to rent towards buying, takes some of the stress off the tenants
and allows longer time to come up with the money, which means less people getting evicted or
foreclosed on. The less people that are foreclosed on, the better the market for homes will be.
Currently the market is great for anyone who is financially stable to purchase any home that has a
foreclosure sign out front. If the option rent to own was made more available the people looking
for homes, then it would allow them to save more money until they were financially stable to either
buy the home, or move to another affordable location. The owners who do offer the rent to own
option are not only allowing the tenants time to come to a more stable financial state, but are
making money themselves. If the

The Benefits Of Genetic Engineering
The article is based on the fact that microbes are capable of changing carbon dioxide into biomass.
In most cases, the organism derives energy from sunlight, photoautotrophy and also from inorganic
electronic donors, chemolithoautotrophy. It is by this that the authors claim that the potential for
this organism to be used for the large scale industrial production of biofuels and other useful
chemicals remains largely untapped. The employment of genetic engineering to augment the
autotrophic host s productivity pathways offers hope for improved and increased productivity.

This has given rise to microbial electrosynthesis where chemolithoautotrophs are used to generate
chemicals and biofuels are generated from electron donors. Non carbon electron donors include H2,
Fe2+, NH4 and all are produced and mobilized by electrical energy.
A suitable host physiologically, genetically and biochemically forms the basis for efficient
autotrophic production. The heterotrophs Escherichia coli and Saccharomyces cerevisiae have so
far been ideal. However, these organisms will have to be transformed to full autotrophs using
sophisticated and complex engineering methods. The use of mixotrophy where autotrophs systems
are incorporated into heterotrophs seems to give better outcomes.
The natural photoautotrophic microorganism is categorized into oxygenic and anoxygenic groups.
Oxygenic photoautotrophs such as Cyanobacterial Synechocystis species and Synechococcus
species have been used in conjunction with metabolic engineering to produce isobutyraldehyde, l
lactic acid and 2,3 butanediol. Eukaryotic microalgae such as Chlamydomonas reimnhardtii can
produce lipids and alkanes. Oxygenic photoautotrophs possess water splitting oxygen producing
photosystems. These systems can produce reducing power and a proton gradient for ATP energy
production.
The photosystems of anoxygenic photolithoautotrophic microorganisms cannot split water. They
rely on inorganic electronic donors to generate reducing power. An example is Rhodabacter

  • 2. I Learned About College University Of Nebraska Wesleyan... This semester through my Archway seminar I learned many things. Not just about college but specifically about the University of Nebraska Wesleyan and how the schooling here works. The Archway seminar is designed to be an intro class into learning how to college and it was really an eye opener for me. Through the assignments of our active reading journals I learned how to look deeper into thing and really explore their entire meaning. Taking something simple that I read and writing about experiences and what I thoughtabout it really help this ability grow throughout the semester. Through the discussion in this class I learned a lot more about each chapter. I looked forward to the discussion because I enjoyed hearing everyone else s way of thinking. Something s mentioned in the discussion I would have never thought about. Although I didn t participate in the discussion as much as others I felt like it got better throughout the semester. I have never really been one to open up to big crowds and share my opinion. Due to many reasons. But the discussion allowed me to tear down a little bit of that wall. Both of these experiences are something I know I will experience throughout my entire college career and learningthem the first semester is something that will really help me along the way. In the book On Looking the most significant part of this book to me was the just how it opened my mindto the world. This book showed me specific things and details that I had never ... • 3. Penn Station Thesis Being a part of a community is something different in this world full of hate, but one can still hate people in his/her community. Therefore, what s the point of having a community? In a world full of differences, what is pulling everyone together? Penn Station. It has been around for a long time and still remains a significant part of travel. America has been full of people traveling since it was founded; that s how America was settled and how it grew to be so large. The expansion in the country allowed Penn Station to make its mark, creating a city within a city, intertwining people. Cultural centers are places where people see many classes of people interacting over one common need: travel. This has been a necessary tool in order to progress ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It has given to some a home off the street and has been a place of escape. Jennifer Toth explains in her book, Mole People: Life in the Tunnels Beneath New York City, that there are hard times. The tunnels around Penn Station were settled and inhabited by a group of people including a man named Frederick. He had a rough upbringing that affected the rest of his life. He was accepted by the many people around this area of Penn Station, finally getting a home in this big city. It framed Frederick and helped him come up with his future dream. Even in this difficult world, the man still had somewhere to go, with someone to look after him, and have the chance to succeed (Toth). The rough beginning of his life did not affect him with doing something with his life, in helping create the tunnels for more trains to come into Penn Station, and something that has significance to others. Penn Station might have changed people and society, but in the end, society has definitely had an impact on Penn Station itself. Doctorow also explains how diverse Penn Station is in just 100 and some words. He describes some refugees sitting on a bench and also a young girl and her father, who are regular citizens trying to get away from the city, which explains how diverse this one location is. The girl also reveals the aspect of a small city through the narrator explaining to the reader how she was watching the many people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Performance Of Sense And Sensibility I went to the performance of Sense and Sensibility on Thursday night and I sat in the second row, which was very close to the performance. The layout of the theatre definitely provided a different perspective depending on where the audience member sat. The theatre was close to completely filled, but there were still a few seats that were empty. Overall the show was my favorite one yet that I have attended at W L. Sense and Sensibilityis written by Kate Hamill who based the script off the novel that was written by Jane Austen. The performance was directed by Stephanie Sandberg and it was presented by the W L Department of Theater, Dance, and Film Studies with special arrangements from Dramatists Play Service Inc. The performers were made up of predominately W L students and after reading their bios it became clear to me that the performers come from many different backgrounds and they have varying levels of experience performing. The audience was made up of primarily elderly couples and families from the surrounding Rockbridge area. I saw some professors in the audience with their families which was great to see. W L students were definitely the minority in the audience that night. The audience reacted very strongly to the actors performance and some members in the front row were actually part of the performance. The room was very tight and was surrounded by stands where the audience was only feet from the actual performance. During the performance the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Supplemental Nutrition Program For Women The Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) was started in 1972, and was permanently established in 1974 by the USDA (WIC Fact Sheet, 2015; Brown, 2011). WIC was established to safeguard the health of women, infants, and children up to age five who are low income and at nutritional risk; their mission is carried out by means of supplementing diets by providing access to nutritious foods, nutritioneducation, breastfeeding education, breastfeeding promotion, breastfeeding support, and referrals to healthand other social service agencies (WIC Fact Sheet, 2015). WIC is one of the most successful nutrition programs in the United States that is federally funded; it has served approximately 5.7 million children and 1.8 million women in fiscal years 2001 2003 (Brown, 2011). • 9. Future And Future Of Implants Future of Implants When I asked Dr. Marko about what he thinks will happen to implants in the future he stated: I expect that it will expand. He explained that current DBS technologies are seeing expanding indications for more and more diseases with good results. But beyond this, there are whole new domains of brain implants coming online and in the research pipeline. These include the whole field of brain computer interface, which allows the brain to control machines (e.g. prosthetic limbs). This is very promising, and some examples are already making it to real world application. Additional implants designed to improve memory, etc. are also being developed. The future of those is less certain, but I suspect they will improve and start to see practical application as time goes on [Marko]. One strong belief about the future of implants is that they will significantly reduce in size; nanoscale implants will be fully developed and will be comprised of materials with increased longevity so that there will be no need of additional surgeries for repair or replacements. With continued research and development of implants and advancements are made as a result of the Blue Brain Project, implants will be able to mend the symptoms of a larger range of diseases. This is extremely important, for millions of people will regain their abilities that were taken from them by a disease. Currently, deep brain stimulation implants focus on enhancing motor functions or mood. The deep ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mission statements, goal setting, and planning methods alone are simply not enough anymore. Management fads have given way to time tested management principles that distinguish good companies from truly great companies. Many organizations have found success by utilizing a technique of balancing their core ideology, stimulating progress, and seeking support by aligning company objectives, strategies, and policies. Collins and Porras conclude, The continual stream of great products and services from highly visionary companies stems from them being outstanding organizations, not the other way around (Collins Porras, 2002). For example, to many people, William McKnight is not a household name. However, Mr. McKnight was a top executive of the visionary 3M Corporation for over fifty years. At the heart of every visionary company lie its core ideology, or those values and beliefs that form the foundation of a company s existence. Seeing how the visionary companies evolved over most of the last century let the authors observe that while the companies were continually changing in response to the market and to their customers, they had an overall set of core values to which they held constant. The comparison companies often lost ground when they changed their focus, swayed by the desire to maximize shareholder wealth. This idea is illustrated by a quote from David Packard, Profit is not the proper end and aim of management it is what makes all of the proper ends and aims possible (Collins Porras). • 31. Comparison Of Shirley Hutchinson And The Lottery Compare and Contrast Essay To start, the theme I chose for these two articles that we will be comparing and contrasting is standing up for what is right may not be the easiest path. This means that when you are thinking about standing up for someone and no one else starts to, it may be hard for you to start standing up for someone. In The Lottery Tessie Hutchinson and her family live in a town that do this thing called the lottery, but you don t win any money during this lottery , you get the prize of death. In First They Came... Martin Niemoller expresses his point of view on how he did not speak out for people in danger, when he should have. I chose this theme, because in both The Lottery by Shirley Jackson and First They Came... by Martin Niemoller there are some people that could have stood up for each other but no one around them did so they didn t want to. These two articles are alike, because people die in both of these events . This shows that in First They Came and The Lottery that people in the village or different groups of people were too afraid of standing up for Tessie, or the Socialists, Trade Unionists, or the Jews. On one hand, The Lottery by Shirley Jackson is a fictional short story about well the lottery, but it is not the lottery that you think of when you hear that word. The Claim of this essay is standing up for what is right may not be the easiest path. Evidence that supports this claim is Suddenly, Tessie Hutchinson shouted to Mr. Summers, You didn t give him enough time to take any paper he wanted. I saw you. It wasn t fair! This quote means that Tessie Hutchinson was trying to stand up for her husband Bill Hutchinson. However, after she does this the crowd goes after her telling her Be a good sport, Tessie Mrs. Delacroix called, and Mrs. Graves said All of us took the same chance shut up, Tessie Bill Hutchinson said . This means Tessie tried to stand up for her husband and it clearly was not easy. I think we ought to start over, Mrs. Hutchinson said, as quietly as she could I tell you it wasn t fair. You didn t give him enough time to choose. Everybody saw that This quote means that Tessie was still trying to stand up for her family and no one listened ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Literary Analysis Of The Mill On The Floss The Mill on the Floss was unlike any production I ve ever seen. Over and over again, different production choices made me raise an eyebrow, but after chewing on them, those deliberate decisions made sense. Ultimately, the play s use of unrealistic elements served as a means for the audience to step further into Maggie s life and to glean greater meaning from the production. This could be seen in numerous places throughout the play: when cousin Lucy was portrayed as a doll, when Maggie was portrayed by three different people and when she symbolically drowned on the ducking chair (Edmundsen Houghton). All of those instances came together to create a harmony in the play. In one of the first obvious moments of the theatricalized nature of the play, Maggie s family rolled on her cousin, Lucy (more or less). She was a child sized mannequin. While at first glance this seemed like a stale joke, I began to realize that from Maggie s point of view, Lucy was the doll. Fragile, delicate, quiet and lady like in every way. Maggie, on the other hand, saw herself as a wicked wench (as her father lovingly called her). She read books down by the river, only to return with her hair ratted and matted every which way (Edmundsen Houghton). In her own eyes, she could never be as obedient and loved as Lucy. The simple choiceof using the doll brought about a completely new perspective that allowed audiencemembers to interpret and learn differently. Another highly theatricalized moment in ... • 33. The Enduring Appeal Of Agatha Christie In general, the essay The Enduring Appeal of Agatha Christie is effective in proving the importance of the Agatha Christie. It is simply organized with an introduction, three body paragraphs and a conclusion. The body paragraphs clearly expand on the arguments stated in the thesis. The essay analyses the validity of the opinion that Agatha Christiehas a lasting impression to those that read her novels. The essay s introductory sentence begins with a broad question; it is successful in introducing the theme of mystery stories and intriguing the reader to continue. It is unnecessary to give examples of literature from other authors. Rather, the introduction should contain information specifically about Agatha Christie. However, the ideas ... Those successful establishments could possibly include a private high school, a sporting team, or even a business. Typically, private schools enforce the policy that a uniform most be worn by all enrolled students. But why hasn t the majority of traditional public schools, developed uniform policies? Benefits of uniforms within schools may include, students feeling more professional and successful. In addition, educators and experts believe uniforms have a resounding impact on how students act in the classroom. Uniform policies should begin to be mandatory for junior high students through the end of the high school tenure. A traditional schooluniform may include, White button down shirts and ties for boys, pleated skirts for girls and blazers adorned with the school logo for all. Another school may simply require that all shirts have collars (Wilde). This simple and built to last outfit can help students stay focused on education rather than worrying about their clothing choices. Politician and former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, believes introducing school uniforms is a productive way to implement the focus on learning and limit the attention on what the students are wearing ( Should Students ). With uniforms, discipline is put into place as fewer debates occur between parents and children regarding what the child will be wearing to school (Kouzmine). School uniforms are not just easier for parents, the uniforms also make mornings easier for students. Along with reducing arguments and stress, school uniforms encourage unity in the halls while providing discipline. Uniforms in schools could help make the school a safe and welcoming environment for everyone. Unfortunately, hazing is a major problem among students in schools. A large sum of bullying would be decreased if all students wore a similar outfit to school each day. Research conducted by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Equality In The 1860 s Due to the heightening tensions within the ideas of equality, a fire was ignited and a rebellion had begun. Many argued about the inequality of women and slaves. The arguments came from the disproportion in wealth, the beliefs from christianity and the changing ideas of republicanism. These ideas and thoughts have been spread through many public speakers and writers throughout the 1840 s 1860 s. These speakers included: Frederick Douglass, David Walker, Lucy Stone, Lucretia Mott, the authors of Mechanics Union Preamble and the Ten Hour Circular. All of these authors ideas curved together at a crucial time in history. The activists of women s rights were pushing for equality. The workers had began to rise up; this event seemed to be the final piece to push society together. It was shown that every citizen yearned for their slice of equality and freedom. The authors of Mechanics Union Preamble had started the first pretion to raise workers wages, regain the respect of craftsmen embedded in the desensitization from the Market Revolution and obtain equality for all manual laborers. The workers wages were below a sustainable lifestyle, they were unable to support their families or buy the clothes they produced. The low pay came from the business owners taking a large portion of the profits to live in luxury. This separation between luxury and poor started a shift in republican values. The shift caused a feeling of disconnect and inequality in all of the citizens builded from the advancement of technology. When taxes were implemented, the price of travel and food grew. The business owners pockets grew but the worker never received a pay raise. This large divide along side hours of working created tired and unhappy citizens. It also disconnected the workers from their families from long days and exhaustion. The Ten Hour circular petitioned in the want of ten hour days for happiness and higher quality products. • 37. Code Switching Of English In Bollywood Research Question 3 How English is used in Bollywood films ? 1.Code switching with English in the Indian situation English in Bollywood frequently takes the form of code switching. In a bilingual speech community, speakers tend to mix words, phrases, clauses and sentences when they communicate with others. They are able to switch linguistically built upon different situations. When two languages are expressed in this way, they differ remarkable from the same languages as spoken in their separate social systems. This kind of interference on the discourse level is known as code switching (Malhotra, S. 1980). Since 1957, English was spoken by upper and middle social class in India for social and economic reasons and then it gradually became a symbol of higher social status. • 38. The Cloning Debate On Cloning Eva Gaetz Sec 09 Kanchan Hulasare The Cloning Debate According to Mosby s Medical Dictionary, the term cloning is defined as a procedure for producing multiple copies of genetically identical organisms or cells or of individual genes. Researchers have conducted several cloning experiments over the years, replicating tissues, organs, and even full organisms such as Dolly the Sheep in 1997. The history of cloning dates back to the early 1900 s when Hans Adolf Edward Dreisch studied the results of separating two celled sea urchin embryos ( The History of Cloning ). The process has since evolved and become a process that is widely talked about amongst doctors, scientists and the general public. The process of cloning has been predicted to play a significant role in medical advancements in the near future. The main areas of which cloning could potentially affect are treatments for various diseases through organ replacement and infertility. As many topics in science, controversy exists regarding the subject of cloning in addition to its advantages and disadvantages. One advantage of cloning is the ability to produce organs and tissues for diseases and medical conditions that require transplantation. The national waitlist for organ donation consists of more than one hundred thousand patients and increases by nearly four thousand patients a day ( Organ Donation and Transplantation ). The amount of donors is much less in comparison to the number of recipients. As of 2013, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Foreclosure Of The Last Couple Years Foreclosure in the last couple years has become a well known word to a lot of young people, and has become more frequent in the last couple of years. My family has gone through the process and it was a very emotional time for us all. The only home my family was able to get into was one that could be rented with the option to buy. Having more homes in the market that have that option makes it not only more convenient, but more affordable for families like mine who have gone through foreclosure. Giving possible tenants the option to rent towards owing is a great way to get the housing market back on track. People who are struggling financially cannot afford to just buy a home. Allowing people the option to rent towards buying, takes some of the stress off the tenants and allows longer time to come up with the money, which means less people getting evicted or foreclosed on. The less people that are foreclosed on, the better the market for homes will be. Currently the market is great for anyone who is financially stable to purchase any home that has a foreclosure sign out front. If the option rent to own was made more available the people looking for homes, then it would allow them to save more money until they were financially stable to either buy the home, or move to another affordable location. The owners who do offer the rent to own option are not only allowing the tenants time to come to a more stable financial state, but are making money themselves. If the ... This simple yet powerful quote motivates me to remain steadfast in the mission of aiding others. I m pursing a Masters in social work because by working in this field, I can educate, advocate, motivate, understand, and encourage resilience to clients from every walk of life. It is a profession that will allow me to practice both on a micro and macro level simultaneously. Lastly, working in social workgives me the capacity to challenge policies affecting disadvantaged communities. My interest in this field stems from growing up in a small, rural, poverty stricken town. This gave me a unique perspective on the world. My hometown had many children with potential, but because they did not have a positive outlet most of our future workforce leaders did not complete school. As a professional, I want to create an outreach program designed for high school students, from low income communities, that pushes and encourages them to stay in school and seek higher education. Currently there are no programs in the area that offers educational assistance to these children. Considering the lack of resources available, the need for such a program is evident. My solution is to use social work to develop these types of services and create policies that can affect at risk youth in a positive way. • 41. The Benefits Of Genetic Engineering The article is based on the fact that microbes are capable of changing carbon dioxide into biomass. In most cases, the organism derives energy from sunlight, photoautotrophy and also from inorganic electronic donors, chemolithoautotrophy. It is by this that the authors claim that the potential for this organism to be used for the large scale industrial production of biofuels and other useful chemicals remains largely untapped. The employment of genetic engineering to augment the autotrophic host s productivity pathways offers hope for improved and increased productivity. Other techniques entail the transfer of the processes to heterotrophic organisms. Autotrophic production is said to be more efficient as a source of fuel than that from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This has given rise to microbial electrosynthesis where chemolithoautotrophs are used to generate chemicals and biofuels are generated from electron donors. Non carbon electron donors include H2, Fe2+, NH4 and all are produced and mobilized by electrical energy. A suitable host physiologically, genetically and biochemically forms the basis for efficient autotrophic production. The heterotrophs Escherichia coli and Saccharomyces cerevisiae have so far been ideal. However, these organisms will have to be transformed to full autotrophs using sophisticated and complex engineering methods. The use of mixotrophy where autotrophs systems are incorporated into heterotrophs seems to give better outcomes. The natural photoautotrophic microorganism is categorized into oxygenic and anoxygenic groups. Oxygenic photoautotrophs such as Cyanobacterial Synechocystis species and Synechococcus species have been used in conjunction with metabolic engineering to produce isobutyraldehyde, l lactic acid and 2,3 butanediol. Eukaryotic microalgae such as Chlamydomonas reimnhardtii can produce lipids and alkanes. Oxygenic photoautotrophs possess water splitting oxygen producing photosystems. These systems can produce reducing power and a proton gradient for ATP energy production. The photosystems of anoxygenic photolithoautotrophic microorganisms cannot split water. They rely on inorganic electronic donors to generate reducing power. An example is Rhodabacter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
