Inventory System Case Study
In this work, a two warehouse inventory system has been investigated by considering advance
payment and partial backlogging with interval valued inventory cost. In this model, the corresponding
optimization problem with interval objective has been formulated and solved with the help of different
variants of particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique and interval order relations. Due to interval
valued inventory cost, the different variants of PSO algorithm have been developed by using interval
arithmetic and interval order relations. Then the obtained best found solutions (which is either optimal
or nearer to optimal) from different variants of PSO have been compared and it is observed that all the
variants of PSO have produced the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

contributors were, and what the primary issues are in each field. Increases the knowledge and
understanding of the culture and its philosophy.
Study of Existence Metaphysics is the focus of the nature of existence, reality, and who we are.
Metaphysics has new meaning in an age of ever changing and globally interconnectedness. The

It also addresses the dynamics of a group and the ways in which people group together or otherwise
act in union (Hughes, 2011).
Social Contract
According to Hughes, major themes in common are examples of ideas in social philosophy include
social contract theory, cultural criticism, and individualism. Individualism often comes up in social
philosophy, including questions regarding the separation, or lack thereof, of individual persons from
society and each other (Hughes, 2011).
Develop and Receive Legitimacy
Individuals in the state of nature came together and made agreements out of self interest. It is these
agreements that give legitimacy to government; people are ruled by consent (PPI, 2012). The form
described by contractarianism; the contract is hypothetical, as is the consent.
Structured Political Systems
Lastly, in order that goods might increasingly be secured. The goals of society must be defined; before
choosing a route one must choose a destination. The political system best achieves the aims of
politics, is most affective in securing it (PPI, 2012).
Conclusion
Philosophy engages us to ask a multitude of questions about our place in the world. Many of us start
questioning as children, but later in life we tend to ignore them. Philosophers, help us address question
such as What can we know? What should we do? What may we hope? What makes human beings

Comparing Society in The Dharma Bums and The New American...
Mass Society in The Dharma Bums and The New American Poetry
One of the best ways to fully understand an era is to study its literature. The printed word has the
incredible capacity to both reflect and shape the hopes, fears, and ideologies of the time. This is very
evident when reading literature from 1960 s America, a turbulent period in the history of our country.
While the authors styles are very different, there are definite thematic patterns and characteristics
evident in many of their works. For one, there is a prevalent concept of the unenlightened masses.
This concept serves as a foil for the enlightened few often represented as the main characters and more
specifically as the authors themselves. There also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lamantia also has a poem entitled Man Is In Pain (155, Poetry). Allen Ginsberg in his poem
Sunflower Sutra portrays the masses as sunflowers in a dirty railroad yard. And finally, Jack Kerouac
in his book The Dharma Bums portrays the masses as sedentary bums (86) and as millions of the One
Eye (104).
All of these images of mass society have a tone of despair and depression. People are shown to be
weary and confused, having lost the passion for life. Brautigan and Barthelme seem most concerned
with the concept of a class struggle; their masses are poor and bitter. Kerouac is more concerned with
the lazy masses that are brainwashed by television and suburbia. The only hopeful view of the masses
comes from Ginsberg who sees a beauty in people that he feels is often covered and masked by the
ugliness of society.
Going along with the concept of mass society is that of an American Dream . The masses are shown to
be questing for some vision or goal that the writers believe to be unrealistic and futile. Kerouac s
masses are living the stereotypical American Dream, with 2.5 kids in their nice little suburbs,
watching television and chugging along in their middle class lives. Yet they are unfulfilled, missing
the much larger dream in life. For Brautigan s

Hockey In Canada In The 1920 s
Hockey has been in Canada for about 140 years and Canada has been taking part in the hockey winter
Olympics since the 1920 s. In 1948 Canada s Olympic hockey team ran into a problem. The Montreal
Royals were supposed to represent Canada but declined the offer and couldn t find a new team due to
Olympic rules around amateurs being paid to play hockey. Canada and the Olympic hockey manager
Dr. Alexander Sandy Watson thought fast to put together a team. Watson recruited Royal Canadian Air
Force men to create this team to represent Canada. In the 1948 winter Olympics held in St. Moritz,
Switzerland. From the crowd booing off the ice by their own country to rising to the top with some
men who have never played hockey before is an incredible story. Many say they don t know how they

In the late 1870 s McGill University organized the first hockey team. Then in the early 1880 s the first

eventually spread to America and Europe. Numerous countries including France, Britain, Belgium,

The History Of Communism
Communism is an economic system where the government owns the means of production, and is one
where there is no private ownership because it is under the control of the communities or the state.
Since its proposal in 1848 by German Philosophers, Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, in their book,
The Communist Manifesto , there are many who have been influenced by the writings of Marx and
Engels. This has led to many revolutions and establishments of governments with the communist
ideals of peace, solidarity, and labour. The communists of today do not have to live in fear as the
communists during the McCarthy era, where thousands of Americans were monitored and questioned
regarding their loyalty to the United States. During this time, the Red ... Show more content on

Those who oppose them, from everyday people to the media, will point to the statistics. They will
state that communism killed 100 million people in the 20th century, but the counterargument to that is
simply to point out the fact that capitalism kills, and has killed, more people every 5.5 years. One need
only look at the statistics, such as those mentioned in the article: Attempting the Impossible
Calculating Capitalisms Death Toll where the numbers are crunched together, and by looking
throughout the history of capitalism and its influences. Also, one can think of many more deaths
ranging from African slavery, Manifest Destiny, the colonization of Africa, and to the many wars
brought on or backed by capitalist countries. The claim of the opposition is always that capitalist
countries were protecting their interests and allies, but it does not warrant the unrestrained use of
excessive force, especially when non capitalist countries attempt it and are met with massive
condemnations and sanctions by capitalist countries. Opposition will say that communism starves the
people. In the dictatorship of countries claiming to be communists, this is true, but to those who use it
to point to the evils of communism need to see that capitalism is no better, it is even worse. In
capitalist societies, particularly the United States, that boasts of power and prestige, one has to wonder
why millions die in a country that has the means and equipment to feed the hungry, but would rather
spend it on big businesses while an old man struggles to keep his small store from failing, a country
that can provide healthcare coverage to all, but would rather have a family pay out of pocket. They can
do all of this, but they do not. Yet they feel that they are in the right to call communism evil , and say
that it will not work. It will not work for the big

The neural adaptation, contraction speed, lever type, several factors involved in determining the power

factors are purely genetic and can not be changed.
Motor unit adaptations
Require that motor units are recruited depending on the amount of force. During the first few weeks of
resistance exercise, rapid increase in strength is usually experienced.
As the nervous system adapts to training is due to improvements in motor unit recruitment. Further

Uber And Volkswagen Case Analysis
Uber and Volkswagen are both very important and revolutionary companies that have shaped the
world in their own individual ways. Although they are successful, they both have interesting start up
stories and have run into the law on multiple occasions. Law has had a powerful impact on the how
both companies have created their business model and made expansions to better each company. In
the novels Wild Ride by Adam Lashinsky and Faster, Higher, Farther by Jack Ewing the authors go
through the company s stories and also the legal challenges that they had to face along the way and
that they are still facing to this day. It is clear that the law gets in the way of these companies plans,
and has gotten major employees of these companies in a lot of trouble for the illegalities that they
committed. Many major companies get sued by employees and customers because they try to make
money off of them. In many of the cases we can examine if it is worth it for the company to fight all
of these cases individually or to group the similar ones together and make necessary changes to the
company to satisfy the employees and customers. Even with some of these issues going on and many
counter arguments, both Uber and Volkswagen have handled their situations with the law very well to
keep the companies moving forward.

Major Forces That Are Leading International Firms Essay
There are five major forces that are leading international firms to the globalization of their operations
which includes (1) political (2) technological (3) market (4) cost and (5) competition. Many firms
initiate international operations to gain assess by combined markets through exporting product or
producing within the area.
Technological
According to (Ball, 2011) today s technology has allowed an advance in computers, communication
and an increase flow of ideas. Through the internet and networks small companies can compete
globally.
Markets
Companies use foreign countries to establish a business to avoid having their competition take their
business. With the majority of the population being in foreign countries, outsourcing helps to generate
growth.
Cost
Management utilizes lower cost by moving production lines to foreign countries because the labor is
cheaper, and can also lower other parts of a company value chain. There is a reduction in the cost of
generating and transmitting information as well as a decline in transportation cost.
Competition
Competition is increasing because of growth in automobiles, computers, and electronics. Firms are
also defending their home markets from foreign competitors by entering into foreign markets.
There are a number of reasons why a manager may not be able to successfully apply the specific
techniques and concepts learned in his/ her country in other areas of the world. Each country has its
own values, cultures and ethical

Pillow For Neck Pain
There are quite a few things that can cause neck pain. This is something that happens to everyone once
in a while, and it is usually either accidental injury or improper posture while doing certain activities.
Neck pain can ruin your whole day, especially if you can not move your head in any direction without
feeling a lot of pain. When you have pain your your neck or even your upper back, most of the time it
is a muscle problem and it will resolve within a few days with the right tools. One of those tools
should be a pillow for neck pain.
If you have recurring problems with neck pain, you may want to have it checked out. There could be a
problem with your upper spine. On the other hand, if you just have pain once in a while and you can
pinpoint from where it came, it is usually something that you can clear up on your own with ice, heat,

you may have slept with your head at an odd angle the night before. The ice helps with inflammation

then the pain. You can also take something like Advil or the generic equivalent to help with the
inflammation as well. At night, you want to make sure you have a pillow for neck pain on which to

A good pillow for neck pain is one that is more firm than other pillows and that helps your neck and

Abraham Lincoln Hero or Racist?
Abraham Lincoln is arguably one of the most interesting presidents in the history of the United States.
Any research done on Lincoln will show, whether you agree or disagree with his philosophies, that he
was, and still is, a fascinating historical figure. There have been numerous discussions regarding
Lincoln before the Civil War, during the war as Commander In Chief, or his views on slavery and
racial equality; furthermore, vast debates on his views, strategies, and solutions regarding events that
helped shape our nation. Abraham Lincoln is such an interesting person that discussions and debates
will lead to more questions open to more discussion and debate. What was Lincoln s view on ... Show

He still did not think blacks should have the right to vote, hold political offices, or marry white people.
He also still believed physical differences between the two races would prevent them from living
together socially and politically (186). Lincoln was against whites benefitting from slave labor and did
feel that blacks should be able to benefit from the fruits of their own labor. According to Dinesh D
Souza in her article Abraham Lincoln: Tyrant, Hypocrite, or Consummate Statesman , he was not,
however, an abolitionist. Abolitionists wanted an immediate end to slavery and believed the rights of
slaves should not be compromised and that they had a duty to defend freedom, unreservedly, and
careless of the consequences (3).
What was the reason behind the Civil War? According to Carter G. Woodson and Charles H. Wesley,
when the Civil War started, Lincoln, in order to stay on the good side of supporters who had voted him
into office, publicly stated that he did not want to interfere with the slavery in the South ( The Negro
in the Civil War 361). Contrary to claims that he did not approve of slavery, Lincoln clearly
compromised the rights of slaves to be free in order to appease supporters of slavery by evading the
subject of slavery in the South. D Souza also asserts that Lincoln stated in correspondence to Andrew
Stephens, the former vice president of the Confederacy, that while we think it is wrong, and ought to
be restricted, it was not his intention to get

Changes in Project Management Abstract This report discusses changes in project management in
today s world of internet time and dominance of time to market. It also lays emphasis on alternative
development methodologies instead of traditional methodologies which should be adapted in order to
prosper in today s tempestuous environment. In this modern world, business needs are changing at a
fast pace and to confront these changes new and advanced development methodologies should be

Currently, business processes are more complex and interconnected than ever before and they discard
traditional organizational structures (Hass 2016). By using alternative methodologies instead of
traditional ones, organizations can handle exceptional changes, time to market compression, rapidly
changing technologies and increasing complexity at every turn (Hass 2016). Overview of Traditional
Methodologies Traditional methodologies are characterized by a sequential series of steps like
requirement definition, planning, building, testing and deployment (Optimus Information 2016). There
are various traditional methodologies but three most substantial ones are Waterfall, Spiral Model and
Unified Process (Awad 2005, p. 3). Waterfall Royce presented this SDLC and it comprises of
sequential completion of every phase before moving on to next phase. It is kind of impractical
methodology because waterfall states that requirements should be fully completed followed by
completion of analysis and design (Aitken Ilango 2013, p. 4752). It doesn t give the leverage in
modification of requirements during later stages. Spiral Model It combines prototyping and design in
order to get advantages of bottom up as well top down notions. It is an advanced form of waterfall
method. The four main phases include objective setting, risk assessment,

they were seen as a lesser people. The three things that are wrong with Jesus encounter with the
Samaritan woman is that Jews were not supposed to speak to Samaritans, Men could not address
women without their husband there, and rabbis shouldn t address a lady of the Samaritan status. The
Samaritans were looked down upon by the Jews because of their ancestry and their perceived

Latent Fingerprints Essay
The visualisation of latent fingerprints is enhanced by the adherence of enhancement materials to the
chemical constituents found in latent fingerprints. The most common enhancement techniques
employed to improve the visibility of latent fingerprints are fingerprint powder dusting, cyanoacrylate
fuming and ninhydrin [Lee Gaensslen 2001]. These methods are inexpensive, fast and efficient.
However, these techniques may affect the useful chemical characteristics and physical traces of
residual evidence which can be obtained from latent fingerprints.
Fingerprint powder is commonly used on non porous surfaces and on fixed surfaces which cannot be
taken to the laboratory (e.g. windows) [Champod Lennard 2004]. This fine powder is easy to apply
with the powder particles adhering instantaneously to the greasy and sticky substances in the latent
fingerprint deposit [Champod Lennard 2004]. However, this method is not sensitive and will only
adhere strongly to relatively fresh fingerprints. This is because as the fingerprint ages, the deposit
dehydrates and loses its adhesiveness [Champod Lennard 2004]. There are also limitations with the
application of dusting powders. Over dusting a fingerprint may cover finer details such as scars or
smudge the prints, making it difficult to identify ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Opportunities of Each Approach
Many opportunities for Kudler Fine Foods come with going public with an IPO. A considerably
greater amount of capital comes from the issuing of shares for trading on the stock market. It helps
increase the amount of business taking place if Kudler Fine Foods were to become a publicly traded

make it easier to make sales and attract vendors to supply goods and services to the firm (Keown, et.

the impact it had on American culture and way of life. Such an important decade should have a
nickname, thus the 1920s were called the Roaring 20s. The decade of the 1920s is referred to as
roaring because it was a time of dramatic social change, as demonstrated by the birth of a consumer
society, the rise of a party culture, and the abandonment of long standing morals.
The 1920s are described as roaring because major social developments occurred during the 20s, as
shown by the creation of a consumer culture. The Great Gatsby depicts the consumer society when
Fitzgerald s fictional character Daisy Buchanan bawls, They re such beautiful shirts, she sobbed, her
voice muffled in the thick folds. It makes me sad because I ve never seen such such beautiful shirts
before, (Fitzgerald 99). Fitzgerald s portrayal of the fictional character Daisy represents the consumer
culture of the 1920s; Americans were obsessed with materialistic wealth. Also, during the 1920s, the
economic wealth of America increased by twofold, granting many American families with a newfound
disposable income.

Thesis Statement On Digital Security
Digital Security
The 21st century has been described as the Information Age , a period in human history characterized
by the shift in traditional industry implemented through the industrial revolution to an economy based
on information computerization.
We have come a long way from paper based systems through the use of a computer for efficient data
processing. The creation of local area networks (LAN) all the way through opening channels for
communication and knowledge sharing on a much larger scale. This is where the introduction to
connecting LAN networks to the internet came about. The internet allows for seamless communication

Play Critique
The Doctor in Spite of Himself:
The Doctor in Spite of Himself is a play that I had previously studied in France like many of Molière s
plays. I thought that it was ironic for me to go see the play for the first time in theatre in the United
States. I was really looking forward to hear how the actors would pronounce the characters French
names, which are rather exotic even for me. I think that because I had previously studied Molière s
work in class, I was expecting this play to be performed in a much more traditional style. I was a little
disconcerted at first when seeing the actors performing a more modern version than what I had in
mind. I ended up liking what Arne Zaslove has done with the play. In my opinion, modernizing it a ...

I was not expecting the costumes to be as eccentric. Even though they were matching the characters
role and personality, I felt like they were too wacky and did not go well with the play.
Throughout the play, I enjoyed the role of music used to set a comic atmosphere and replace the
dialogs during comic scenes (e.g. when they chase each other around). I also thought that they made a
good use of light to indicate the moment of the day the scene was happening or to set the atmosphere
of the scene (e.g. pink colour during the romantic moments). Lastly, I liked the way the play ended.
Even though it was a little messy with everyone running after each other off and on stage, and this
policeman coming out of nowhere, which really surprised me; I couldn t think of a better way to end
the play.
Overall I think the actors and everyone involved in the making of this play did a very good job, even
though I liked the performance of some actors better than others. The fact that this translation of the
play was a more modern version original play made it more fun to watch according to me.
Unfortunately, the fact that I was not able to fully understand the actors dialog throughout the play
made it less entertaining and agreeable for me to

The Cases Of Olga Tellis V. Bombay Municipal Corporation...
The cases of Olga Tellis v. Bombay Municipal Corporation and Republic of South Africa v.
Grootboom both dealt with the issue of socio economic rights and their enforceability by the courts.
Olga Tellis saw the affirmation of a right to livelihood as part of a broader right to life. While
Grootboom saw the Court strongly rebuke the government by ruling that it had not been meeting its
section 26 (2), specifically because no strategy was being implemented to aid those in desperate need
of housing like Grootboom. The two landmark cases provide wider insights into how each country s
court engage with socio economic rights. This essay will argue that the South African approach to the

The one exception to this trend was the Ahmedabad case, where the Court said that Article 38, 39, and
46 of the Constitution gave the State obligations to distribute its largess in the hopes of improving the
quality of life of the poor. However, much like with Olga Tellis, those living in the slums were not
granted any real aid by the Court. Even with regards to the right to a livelihood, it has been pointed
out that there was no actual expansion upon what exactly that right entails. So while there is
engagement with the idea of socio economic rights, as Olga Tellis shows, there is very little impetus to
actually take steps towards enforcing those rights.
In Grootboom the Court was faced with the issue of a group of displaced squatters, who felt that their
rights under sections 26 (everyone has right to adequate housing) and 28 (1) (c) (every child has right
shelter) were being violated. The Court s ruling found that the government was not meetings its
obligations under sections 26 (2) of the Constitution, which required that the state take measures to
increase access to housing; specifically the Court noted that the state had especially failed in providing
any sort of aid to those poor who were in desperate need of places to live. Thus the Court issued an
order declaring that the state devise and implement a program to

Common Knee Injury Research Paper
Understanding and Preventing the Most Common Knee Injuries
The knee is an integral joint in terms of movement, but this joint absorbs much impact while it
supports the weight of the body. Depending on the type of activities that you engage in, the level of
impact absorbed by your knee may vary. The knee joint connects the kneecap (the patella) with the
second bone in the lower part of the leg (the fibula). It also connects the shin bone (the tibia) with the
thigh bone (the femur). Four ligaments serve to stabilize the joint; these ligaments are known as the
Lateral Collateral Ligament, Medial Collateral Ligament, Posterior Cruciate Ligament, and the
Anterior Cruciate Ligament.
Understanding Knee Pain
Knee pain is something that countless ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ice is often used to combat inflammation caused by a knee injury. In cases where inflammation is
severe, elevating the leg above the heart is a standard practice. A person who frequently experiences
knee inflammation after engaging in activity may need to wear a knee support. A knee support will
provide support by compressing the area, and this may help to deal with the inflammation.
When Ligaments Are Damaged
Ligaments connect the bones located within the knee joint. Damage to the ligament may affect
stability after first affecting mobility. The knee may become less and less capable of sustaining a
normal amount of weight.
Damage to a knee ligament is graded according to degrees (from one to three). An injury that is a
grade one will be painful, and it will impose some limits in regard to mobility. After an individual
rests the knee for a certain time and performs exercises of strength, a full recovery is likely. A grade
three rupture or tear will likely require some surgery before an individual may gain full use of the knee
again.
The Anterior Cruciate Ligament is typically involved in 40% of knee injuries sustained after playing
extreme sports. A person who sustains a knee injury such as this may wish to wear a knee brace that is
rigid. A rigid knee brace may help to keep the knee stabilized.

Mount Hood Case Study
Analysis
Now that the background of the disaster is known, we can begin to analyze its many components.
From the leadership skills or lack thereof, to the heuristic traps the hikers fell into, to the many voices
that bring multiple views of this climb to life, the 1986 Oregon Episcopal School climb is one that has
people wondering how so many lost their lives in a seemingly simple trip. In doing this we are able to
see how this disaster could have been prevented allowing us to learn from the mistakes of this tragic
event.
The leadership, group functioning, experience, and skill of the nineteen individuals who made their
way up Mount Hood can be used to analyze the very basics of what went wrong atop the mountain.

Those who survived the tragedy bring the voice of what it was really like up on the mountain to life.
The parents of students who didn t survive bring the feeling of grief and the opinion that the school
was never prepared enough to take kids up the mountain (Hallman, 2014). Though some hold the
school responsible, others believe that the leaders provided were adequate as was the equipment. The
media also provides an interesting view into the climb. Because they bring the voices of the parents,
community, and survivors together, the recordings from May 12th through 15th prove to be valuable
when dissecting the events that occurred. Newspapers, magazines, and television reports all freeze this
disaster in place among the records of Mount Hood. Finally, the voices of the public provide
interesting insight on the climbers and leaders who failed to come back home. Through contrasting
views of Summers, Goman, and Horwell, the trip leaders, we learn that not everyone believed them to
be fit to guide the trip. By comparing these multiple viewpoints, it becomes clear that if the group had
taken the correct precautions and listened to the weather report, they may be alive

Integrating Technology Within The Classroom
Literature Review
In the last few decades, there has been a push for integrating technology within the classroom.
Technologies has become commonly associated with the activities of everyday life, as a result, there
has been increased pressure to include technology in classrooms, kindergarten through twelfth grade
since the 1980s. (page #?Grant et al., 2015). This technology push has only increased since the last
century; educators are no longer responsible for teaching the traditional reading, writing, and
arithmetic pedagogy of the past. In respect, students are no longer viewed in the same blank slates, but
as collaborators in their learning. This collaboration is effective in preparing students for the job
market of the future, in which these technologies will be ever present and constantly changing.
In the 21st century, teachers and students have access to a constantly evolving series of technologies
which has facilitated a continued interest in how to use these types of technology in educational
environments. Through the incorporation of educational technology models and theories, the
practitioner s focus is specifically on how technology can be used to improve student performance
through processes, procedures, and tools. Processes and procedures may comprise any task or
intervention involving anything from a simple instructional strategy to a complex instructional system.
(Wade et al., 2013).
However, successful integration of technology will only occur when

Analysis Of George A. Romero s Gory Film Land Of The Dead
George A. Romero s gory film Land of the Dead was released June 2005. Jonathan Levine s Warm
Bodies on the other hand has a scientific fiction undertone, and was released February 2013. Lately
pop culture has had an interest in zombies. Both films chosen have a set contemporary standard of
what a typical zombie is imagined to be. Whether created by supernatural sources or acquired by a
virus, zombies are dead humans that now have the reincarnated mindset of instinctively hunting down
and devouring the living. Those wounded by a zombie, become zombies themselves. Warm Bodies
leans more towards the romance and comedy rather than horror. Whilst remaining true to the ideal
zombie, the envelope is pushed with the unexpected direction that ... Show more content on

This becomes particularly clear when we are introduced to the Bonies, who were once zombies like R
but lost their hope. When they lose their hope they peel away their own skin, the last vestiges of their
humanity, and will be unable to connect again. R even mentions how they will eat anything with a
beating heart, much like himself, but he feels conflicted about it. Bonies are automatically set up as
the antithesis of everything the movie stands for. They are the perfect villains and foils for the corpses
and humans. In Romero s Land of the Dead, zombies have taken over the world and the loose ends of
humanity live within the confines of a city that is bordered on two sides by rivers and a manmade
fence on the third side. Zombies are beginning to evolve and slowly learning how to manipulate
objects and their surroundings. The plots are a bit predictable filled with pure terror and gore opposing
Warm Bodies. While everybody else is merely set on survival, Julie is still hoping for a cure, still
considers it a possibility. Like R, she is looking for something, and wants more. She is unique in her
own crowd of zombies. The very next scene parallels the survivors with the zombies. The group of
survivors set out onto the streets looking for what they need, and it intercuts with scenes of the
zombies doing the same. They are more alike than they are different. In seeing the connected hands,

Essay On Maycomb In To Kill A Mockingbird
Maycomb County was a sleepy town in Southern Alabama; everyone knew one another, there was
hardly any violence, and each resident knew their place in the town s social system. This would easily
entitle Maycomb as the perfect town, wouldn t it? Unfortunately, there is always a flaw in the system.
Under the kindness and welcoming environment of this county and its people lies a hidden layer of
judgement, uncivilization, and discrimination. Although these traits are hidden, Maycomb County isn t
your ideal, small Southern town. Throughout the first section of To Kill a Mockingbird , we get
glimpses of how the town bases judgement off of rumors and lies without considering others points of

Fire and Water Imagery in Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre
Fire and Water Imagery in Jane Eyre
In Jane Eyre, the use of water and fire imagery is very much related to the character and/or mood of
the protagonists (i.e. Jane and Rochester, and to a certain extent St. John Rivers) and it also serves to
show Jane in a sort of intermediate position between the two men. However, it should also be noted
that the characteristics attributed to fire and water have alternately positive and negative implications
to cite an example among many, near the beginning of the novel, reference is made to the devastating
effects of water ( ceaseless rain sweeping away wildly , death white realm [i.e. of snow]), and fire is
represented by a terrible red glare ; later, fire is represented as being ... Show more content on

This is manifested most evidently in the case of the first Mrs. Rochester, who has a fiery eye , a lurid
visage that flame[s] over [Jane s] , is associated with a fiery West Indian night , and who quite literally
turns Thornfield into an inferno after an (unsuccessful) attempt at burning Rochester in his bed.
However, this negative association with fire also occurs with Rochester himself, if only to a certain
extent. His passion for Jane causes him to try to tempt her into a step which might not only doom her
to the fire and brimstone of the afterlife but also a living hell as she says about the thought of
becoming his mistress, she would be fevered with delusive bliss one hour suffocating with the bitterest
tears of remorse and shame the next . [yes!] Moreover, in his rôle as Byronic hero / tempter, the
infernal association is not inappropriate either. It is perhaps significant that one of his earlier remarks
to Jane is that he will pave hell with energy and form good intentions as durable as flint followed
immediately by the new statute: unheard of combinations of circumstances demand unheard of rules ,
a statute that precipitates his attempted bigamy and the emotional torment and purgatory

What I Save Money While Doing Laundry Essay
With three kids under 10 in the house, and a husband who works two jobs, laundry is an never ending,
on going chore. Every time I turn around I think the laundry has doubled. This is especially true in the
summertime when the kids go out to the pool a few hundred times a day. While laundry can be a
daunting task, it can also be a costly task. Here are a few ways I save money while doing laundry: 1. I
buy name brand detergent that is on sale and I have a coupon for it. It is my personal opinion from my
own observation that the cheaper stuff just doesn t do as good of a job as the name brand stuff. By
checking the sales ads I can usually find Wisk, Gain, or even Tide on sale. CVS usually runs Buy One
Get One Free sales on these items. I use two coupons and get a great deal. I try to never spend more
than $2.50 per bottle or box for name brand detergent. 2. Use the cap or the scoop that comes with the
detergent appropriately. Notice that there are littles lines or notches on the cup or scoop with a
number. These lines indicate the load size of the laundry you are doing. For many, many people they
just assume that 1 load= 1 full cup of detergent. Use the appropriate amount of soap per load, don t
just dump a full cup in there blindly. 3. I actually use 1/2 of the recommended amount from the
detergent cup. If I have a small load, I fill up the cup 1/2 of the way to line 1. If I have a medium load,
I fill up to the 1 line. I never, ever use more than 1/2 of the cup for even

Don t rely on the media s research. Although the media will do their own homework don t rely solely
on the results of their research. Make sure to give them your facts. This is especially important if your
topic is controversial as you want them to have the data that supports your position. When you are
pitching it is useful to have as many facts ready to use as possible. If you have a tricky or detailed
topic, present as much information as you can so that the busy, inundated producer or journalist can
grasp your message quickly. The more time you save explaining, the more time you can spend
pitching the benefits of having you as a guest or featured on their pages. 4. There is power in numbers.
What we are talking about here is especially true if you are pitching a controversial topic. If you re
pitching a controversial topic to a radio or TV show, select the guests you want to appear with you.
This gives you more control of the segment and ensures your message will gain acceptance from the

lessons and draw underlying conclusions that are applicable regardless of the variables surrounding
them. The conclusions drawn from both the crushing success of the American lead coalition in Iraq

The Israeli Defense Force makes effective use of the then modern tanks and fighter bomber aircraft in
the 1967 Six Day War. Their perceived superiority or tactic and technology is quickly overran by
improved tactics and Soviet provided technology of the Egyptians in 1973. At this time IDF believe
the tactics based on their modern technology to be superior allowing their technical advancement and
tactical development stagnate. Failing to adjust their strategy and adjust their technology from what
had been previously used leads to them paying a heavy price in the opening days of the war. Just as
tactics are continuously improving to counter an enemy also priority on new technology development
is an imperative to counter the enemy s technology. During the 1991 Gulf War the M829A1 main gun
rounds of the M1A1 Abrams effectively defeats the armor of the Soviet based T72, once thought to be
the world s best battle tank. This demonstrates how modern technology thought to be adequate for the
job is defeated by more advanced developments specifically created to counter it. This conclusion also
warns against the overreliance on Technology, especially electronic based technology, can be costly.
Electronics can easily fail, break, be jammed or otherwise made ineffective by enemy forces. If a
military force relies solely on electronic technology to accomplish mundane task such as targeting,
navigation, or battle tracking the traditional skill set can be lost. Soldiers must continue to learn and
maintain skills in certain areas without reliance on technology to be effective in future battles.

What Does Flanders Symbolize

The people of Flanders were very religious and closely followed the rules of the church. In the novel,
one of these rules were that people as closely related as fourth cousins could not get married. This is
displayed through the Popes reply to Marguerite s letter. it appears he has discovered, upon a thorough
examination of many branches of the family tree of the world s great nobility, that you two are cousins

Essay On Modern English
Anglo Saxon period, from 5th century to 1066, became the ancestor of our modern literature. There is
a big difference from then and now including our language and culture.
First is the difference between their language and the language now which is modern English. Anglo
Saxon language is the oldest known form of English language and is also called as Old English. Even
though it is referred as old English, their language is far different from modern English and is closer to
modern German. The distinction can be seen, for example, on the old English word haftling, to the
modern English word prisoner. The similarities to modern German can be seen from the old English
haftling, not changing and still being haftling now. Their rich language was used on their great works
such as the four manuscripts and, of course, the majestic Beowullf. Old English influenced modern
English in some little ways. Old English, as the ancestor, evolved and modified making it less
noticeable now but it is actually used in our everyday lives.

for men and women because everything a man can do, can also be done by a woman. Before, the
women were more of a houseperson but now, we can see that a lot of women became anything a man
can be. There are many women who work on a job that was just for men before. Soon enough, there
will be a war on feminists and

Nursing Homes, Do They Really Give the Quality Care They...
So often people contemplate on using nursing homes to help care for an elderly family member; due to
strong concerns of the family member not receiving the quality care that nursing homes advertise. For
many people they carry a belief that nursing homes just hire people off the street with minimal
education, this is far from the truth. Any medical facility weather hospital, doctors office or nursing
home all require an employee to have at least a bare minimum of a certification, but depending on the
job position it determines the statue of educational degree required for that position. What people do
not realize it is not due to lack of education that raise the concern it is the lack of passion and
dedication to their careers. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On February 3, 2014, upon entering John M Reed Nursing Home, the social worker Hope Reynolds,
explained the rules and regulations of the facility to protect all rights; the names and information of all
residents are private and cannot be revealed in data collected. She also expressed at this time the
nursing home does not have an administrator it only has Mandy Rocker, assistant administrator,
running the facility at this time. Every week, Monday Friday a morning staff meeting is required to
discuss changes that may develop with residents that may affect different areas of staffing, each staff
member s agenda for the day and marketing, which is in reference to soliciting to the hospital for new
residence. According to data collected these meetings seemed to appear a good aspect for sharing the
developing changes with residents, but that is all the meetings were good for, the other issues seemed
to be time taken that could have been spent caring for the residents.
On a daily basis, Hope Reynolds, assess, and evaluated 2 3 residents to determine if any changes are
developing from the prior month so she can alert the medical staff of the new development. The
problem that was observed, when medical staff and administrative staff was given the social workers
evaluation results, they refuse to address the issue and belittle her making the excuse she was over
reacting stating there is no changes in the resident, that they work with them daily. That raises the

The Gross Domestic Product ( Gdp )
The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) represents the monetary value of all the finished goods and
services produced within a country s geographic borders in a determined period of time. It is used as a
quantitative measure of the total economic activity of a nation, and it is usually calculated on an
annual basis. The GDP can be determined in three different ways: output or production measure,
income measure, and expenditure measure. In theory, it should all give the same number. The output
or production approach defines the GDP as the value of the goods and services produced by all sectors
of the economy. It is calculated by adding the value of the total sales of goods, minus the intermediate
consumption used to produce the final goods sold. The income approach of calculating GDP is defined
as the total income earned by the factors of production within an economy. First, you should
determine the National Income by adding all the wages, rents, interests, and profits earned within an
specific period of time. Then, it is added the value of Sales Taxes, Depreciation and Net Foreign
Factor Income, and the final result will be GDP. The expenditure approach identifies four possible
destinations for the total production of an economy. This output can be consumed by households,
businesses, the governmentor the foreign sector. That is why the GDP can be calculating by adding the
total amount of the purchases made within an economy in a period of time. From this approach we can

He wants value for his money in terms of quality and variety. No wonder, multi cuisine restaurants are
mushrooming even in small towns. Italian, Mexican, Lebanese, Japanese, Cajun the list is growing.
Corroborating this trend, Euromonitor International, a market research company, says the amount of
money Indians spend on meals outside the home has more than doubled in the past decade, to about
US$5 billion a year, and is expected to double again in about half that time.
Another interesting trend noticed in consumer patterns is the growth of branded products. The branded
food market is on a roll. It grew over 5 per cent in 2004, according to the latest ACNielsen Global
Services report on global trends in food and beverages.
That makes food an attractive proposition for investors. Savvy companies have pumped in more than
Rs 60,000 crore (US$13.78 billion) in new food and farm businesses in 2004. According to industry
estimates, 321 private sector projects worth Rs 60,360 crore (US$13.86 billion) were announced in
2004 compared to 89 with an investment of Rs 2,130 crore (US$489.3 million) in 2003.
The popularity of food and agro products is not surprising when the sector is now offering a growth of
more than 150 per cent in sales. With such promise in the sector, a number of foreign companies have
joined the fray.
While US brands such as McDonald s, Pizza Hut and Kentucky Fried Chicken have become

Slavery In The 1800s

Slavery Essay
In the 1700 s and 1800 s, the planter elite class of the American South conspired with both federal and
state governments and other whites to institutionalize slavery in order to protect their economic and
social power and way of life. Their efforts were generally wide spread, simple, blatant and generally
very effective. At the federal level, southerners in the House of Representatives, who were often
controlled and funded by the planter elites, won approval of James Madison s resolution which
declared that Congress ha[s] no authority to interfere in the emancipation of slaves, or in the treatment
of them within any of the States. (Edwards, Henretta, Hinderaker, Self). This resolution ... Show more

This is something they were also very effective at doing. Laws like the Alabama Slave Code of 1852
not only required all whites to patrol plantations so slaves did not escape, they also prohibited slaves
from travelling without their masters, from carrying any kind of weapon, from owning property and
from gathering in groups larger than five (Primary Source Packet). Most any violation of the Code
resulted in branding, whipping or death. These regulations prevented slaves from ever gaining power,
defending themselves or trying to organize or rebel against slavery. They also helped the elites control
poor yeomen whites by giving them jobs, minor government positions and rewards for patrolling and
capturing escaped slaves. The Plantation Slave Roles also incentivized slaves to follow authority even
if it meant hiding their beliefs and emotions or even beating or whipping other slaves (Primary Source
Packet). The Roles effectively helped the planter elites institutionalize slavery with the help of slaves.
The planter elite class relied on slavery in order to protect their economic way of life. They used their
wealth and power to ensure that the northern states and federal government did not interfere with
slavery in the south. The elites similarly used their wealth and power to establish local and state laws
to prevent slaves from gaining power or rebelling, and they also incentivized poor whites to support
slavery by rewarding with money, jobs and minor government positions. All of these actions
effectively institutionalized slavery and preserved the wealth and power of the planter

Side Effects Of Antidepressant
This report will focus on the effects and memory of therapeutic and off label drugs. A study shown by
Star*D gives insight to the first exposure to a patient taking antidepressant, that only 28% to 33% will
go into complete remission. Total remission of depressive symptoms is now the aim of current modern
antidepressant psychopharmacology (Rosse, Richard MD 2007). Research has shown that mostly all
the market available antidepressant users are very effective in treating depression. It has been proven
to in fact elevate the patient s mood and help retake interest in everyday life. Aside other frustrations
such as poor sleep and concentration and loss of care for sleep this drug has been effective.
Antidepressants have also been successfully ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The medicine is also associated with short term withdrawal symptoms among the new born. This
happens in cases where a mother uses SSRI antidepressants during the final stages of pregnancy. With
babies in a few months of life may possibly develop defects such as weak cry and mild respiratory
problems. Some outward problems can be autism and heart defects(SSRI 2016). The drug known as
Prozac is only available by prescription. It is mainly prescribed as an anti depressant to help with the
symptoms and related anxiety. It is also commonly prescribed as an anti obsessive compulsive. Prozac
has numerous side effects that sometimes outweigh the benefits. The most common side effects are:
insomnia, fatigue, decreased appetite, weight loss, nausea, altered taste, and headaches. Some other
infrequent side effects are: blurred vision, anxiety, nervousness, drowsiness, dizziness, anorexia, and
impaired erections. The more serious but rare side effects are suicidal thoughts and acts, hypomania,
seizures, and tremor. Depression is a disease where there is an imbalance of serotonin, a
neurotransmitter. Prozac helps to correct the imbalance by increasing the brains

Eutrophication Essay
Eutrophication comes from the Greek word eutrophos meaning well nourished. In other words, this
natural process found in water occurs as a result of additional rich nutrients forming a flourish in plant
production.
At this moment in time, eutrophication is causing worldwide devastation to not only aquatic life, but
the fishing industry. The release of nutrients into fresh water lakes, rivers and reservoirs leads to
excessive growth of three different plant species:
a) Open water algae (phytoplankton)
b) Attached algae (periphyton)
c) Higher plants (macrophytes)
Above all, these organisms encourage the growth of algae, which absorb dissolved oxygen in the
water essential for the survival of fish populations. Occasionally, ... Show more content on

This is an example of phytoplankton as it is suspended freely on the surface of most rivers and lakes.
Now, of course, the open water algae have optimum solar energy, a sufficient supply of water from
below and carbon dioxide which is absorbed from either the water or sediments. Photosynthesis is
more likely to happen and trigger the production of algal blooming [Fig 2] as oxygen will stimulate
plant respiration.
I believe that low dissolved oxygen (DO) is the most destructive effect of eutrophication, depriving
aquatic life of food and natural habitats. Nevertheless high concentrations of DO may assist algae in
their production, so adequate proportions are essential to ensure a constant environment. Other factors
associated with this process include too much organic matter which is made up of carbon atoms and
carbon carbon, C C bonds. This indirectly effects fish life as eggs and food sources are smothered.
Algal chlorophyll in Mj #248;sa, Norway
In the past 10 years, NIVA (Norwegian Institute for Water Research) have continued to measure the
concentrations of chlorophyll in almost 350 Norwegian freshwater lakes. The results have been used
to demonstrate the quantities of phytoplankton
The graph indicates that between 1980 and 1985 there was a rapid increase in the mean proportions of
chlorophyll in phytoplankton and other algae micro organisms. 1986 brought about nutrient

The Lottery, And Mansfield s Third Person Perspectives
A story is never without a point of view a perspective in which the story is foretold. This perspective
can come in a variety of forms, from first person, second person, to third person, with each shaping
the specifics and details of the background or characters of the tale. Further broken down into three
categories is the third person perspective, which ranges from omniscient, objective, to limited. To
understand the impact the differences in third person perspectives can make on a story and the reader s
understanding of it, a closer look at the readings of Jackson s The Lottery in third person objective and
Mansfield s Miss Brill in third person omniscient is in order. Overall, there s a similarity between the
two perspectives in how they capture and convey obvious information within the story. However, the
distinct disparity between the two becomes rather apparent as the actions of the characters become
focused upon. Jackson, The Lottery. Third Person, Objective. Kids receive rocks. Mansfield, Miss
Brill. Third Person, Omniscient. Drawing conclusions of individuals around her. Insight to her
thoughts. Fundamentally, both the third person objective and third person omniscient have the ability
to describe the actions and outward appearances of characters either known or unknown to the
protagonist. In the story of Miss Brill, the readers are presented an imagery of an everyday Sunday
morning through the description and focus of several different characters, from the

  • 2. Inventory System Case Study In this work, a two warehouse inventory system has been investigated by considering advance payment and partial backlogging with interval valued inventory cost. In this model, the corresponding optimization problem with interval objective has been formulated and solved with the help of different variants of particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique and interval order relations. Due to interval valued inventory cost, the different variants of PSO algorithm have been developed by using interval arithmetic and interval order relations. Then the obtained best found solutions (which is either optimal or nearer to optimal) from different variants of PSO have been compared and it is observed that all the variants of PSO have produced the ... • 4. Comparing Society in The Dharma Bums and The New American... Mass Society in The Dharma Bums and The New American Poetry One of the best ways to fully understand an era is to study its literature. The printed word has the incredible capacity to both reflect and shape the hopes, fears, and ideologies of the time. This is very evident when reading literature from 1960 s America, a turbulent period in the history of our country. While the authors styles are very different, there are definite thematic patterns and characteristics evident in many of their works. For one, there is a prevalent concept of the unenlightened masses. This concept serves as a foil for the enlightened few often represented as the main characters and more specifically as the authors themselves. There also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lamantia also has a poem entitled Man Is In Pain (155, Poetry). Allen Ginsberg in his poem Sunflower Sutra portrays the masses as sunflowers in a dirty railroad yard. And finally, Jack Kerouac in his book The Dharma Bums portrays the masses as sedentary bums (86) and as millions of the One Eye (104). All of these images of mass society have a tone of despair and depression. People are shown to be weary and confused, having lost the passion for life. Brautigan and Barthelme seem most concerned with the concept of a class struggle; their masses are poor and bitter. Kerouac is more concerned with the lazy masses that are brainwashed by television and suburbia. The only hopeful view of the masses comes from Ginsberg who sees a beauty in people that he feels is often covered and masked by the ugliness of society. Going along with the concept of mass society is that of an American Dream . The masses are shown to be questing for some vision or goal that the writers believe to be unrealistic and futile. Kerouac s masses are living the stereotypical American Dream, with 2.5 kids in their nice little suburbs, watching television and chugging along in their middle class lives. Yet they are unfulfilled, missing the much larger dream in life. For Brautigan s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The History Of Communism Communism is an economic system where the government owns the means of production, and is one where there is no private ownership because it is under the control of the communities or the state. Since its proposal in 1848 by German Philosophers, Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, in their book, The Communist Manifesto , there are many who have been influenced by the writings of Marx and Engels. This has led to many revolutions and establishments of governments with the communist ideals of peace, solidarity, and labour. They will state that communism killed 100 million people in the 20th century, but the counterargument to that is simply to point out the fact that capitalism kills, and has killed, more people every 5.5 years. One need only look at the statistics, such as those mentioned in the article: Attempting the Impossible Calculating Capitalisms Death Toll where the numbers are crunched together, and by looking throughout the history of capitalism and its influences. Also, one can think of many more deaths ranging from African slavery, Manifest Destiny, the colonization of Africa, and to the many wars brought on or backed by capitalist countries. The claim of the opposition is always that capitalist countries were protecting their interests and allies, but it does not warrant the unrestrained use of excessive force, especially when non capitalist countries attempt it and are met with massive condemnations and sanctions by capitalist countries. Opposition will say that communism starves the people. In the dictatorship of countries claiming to be communists, this is true, but to those who use it to point to the evils of communism need to see that capitalism is no better, it is even worse. In capitalist societies, particularly the United States, that boasts of power and prestige, one has to wonder why millions die in a country that has the means and equipment to feed the hungry, but would rather spend it on big businesses while an old man struggles to keep his small store from failing, a country that can provide healthcare coverage to all, but would rather have a family pay out of pocket. They can do all of this, but they do not. Yet they feel that they are in the right to call communism evil , and say that it will not work. It will not work for the big ... Although they are successful, they both have interesting start up stories and have run into the law on multiple occasions. Law has had a powerful impact on the how both companies have created their business model and made expansions to better each company. In the novels Wild Ride by Adam Lashinsky and Faster, Higher, Farther by Jack Ewing the authors go through the company s stories and also the legal challenges that they had to face along the way and that they are still facing to this day. It is clear that the law gets in the way of these companies plans, and has gotten major employees of these companies in a lot of trouble for the illegalities that they committed. Many major companies get sued by employees and customers because they try to make money off of them. In many of the cases we can examine if it is worth it for the company to fight all of these cases individually or to group the similar ones together and make necessary changes to the company to satisfy the employees and customers. Any research done on Lincoln will show, whether you agree or disagree with his philosophies, that he was, and still is, a fascinating historical figure. There have been numerous discussions regarding Lincoln before the Civil War, during the war as Commander In Chief, or his views on slavery and racial equality; furthermore, vast debates on his views, strategies, and solutions regarding events that helped shape our nation. He also still believed physical differences between the two races would prevent them from living together socially and politically (186). Lincoln was against whites benefitting from slave labor and did feel that blacks should be able to benefit from the fruits of their own labor. According to Dinesh D Souza in her article Abraham Lincoln: Tyrant, Hypocrite, or Consummate Statesman , he was not, however, an abolitionist. Abolitionists wanted an immediate end to slavery and believed the rights of slaves should not be compromised and that they had a duty to defend freedom, unreservedly, and careless of the consequences (3). What was the reason behind the Civil War? According to Carter G. Woodson and Charles H. Wesley, when the Civil War started, Lincoln, in order to stay on the good side of supporters who had voted him into office, publicly stated that he did not want to interfere with the slavery in the South ( The Negro in the Civil War 361). Contrary to claims that he did not approve of slavery, Lincoln clearly compromised the rights of slaves to be free in order to appease supporters of slavery by evading the subject of slavery in the South. By using alternative methodologies instead of traditional ones, organizations can handle exceptional changes, time to market compression, rapidly changing technologies and increasing complexity at every turn (Hass 2016). Overview of Traditional Methodologies Traditional methodologies are characterized by a sequential series of steps like requirement definition, planning, building, testing and deployment (Optimus Information 2016). There are various traditional methodologies but three most substantial ones are Waterfall, Spiral Model and Unified Process (Awad 2005, p. 3). Waterfall Royce presented this SDLC and it comprises of sequential completion of every phase before moving on to next phase. It is kind of impractical methodology because waterfall states that requirements should be fully completed followed by completion of analysis and design (Aitken Ilango 2013, p. 4752). • 17. Latent Fingerprints Essay The visualisation of latent fingerprints is enhanced by the adherence of enhancement materials to the chemical constituents found in latent fingerprints. The most common enhancement techniques employed to improve the visibility of latent fingerprints are fingerprint powder dusting, cyanoacrylate fuming and ninhydrin [Lee Gaensslen 2001]. These methods are inexpensive, fast and efficient. However, these techniques may affect the useful chemical characteristics and physical traces of residual evidence which can be obtained from latent fingerprints. Fingerprint powder is commonly used on non porous surfaces and on fixed surfaces which cannot be taken to the laboratory (e.g. windows) [Champod Lennard 2004]. This fine powder is easy to apply with the powder particles adhering instantaneously to the greasy and sticky substances in the latent fingerprint deposit [Champod Lennard 2004]. However, this method is not sensitive and will only adhere strongly to relatively fresh fingerprints. This is because as the fingerprint ages, the deposit dehydrates and loses its adhesiveness [Champod Lennard 2004]. There are also limitations with the application of dusting powders. During the 1920s, many ground breaking inventions were introduced, such as the Model T Ford, the radio, and the television. The discoveries and cultural developments of the 1920s would go on to shape America for decades to come. The 1920s was arguably one of the most important decades in American history, in regards to the impact it had on American culture and way of life. Such an important decade should have a nickname, thus the 1920s were called the Roaring 20s. The decade of the 1920s is referred to as roaring because it was a time of dramatic social change, as demonstrated by the birth of a consumer society, the rise of a party culture, and the abandonment of long standing morals. The 1920s are described as roaring because major social developments occurred during the 20s, as shown by the creation of a consumer culture. The Great Gatsby depicts the consumer society when Fitzgerald s fictional character Daisy Buchanan bawls, They re such beautiful shirts, she sobbed, her voice muffled in the thick folds. It makes me sad because I ve never seen such such beautiful shirts before, (Fitzgerald 99). I think that because I had previously studied Molière s work in class, I was expecting this play to be performed in a much more traditional style. However, much like with Olga Tellis, those living in the slums were not granted any real aid by the Court. Even with regards to the right to a livelihood, it has been pointed out that there was no actual expansion upon what exactly that right entails. So while there is engagement with the idea of socio economic rights, as Olga Tellis shows, there is very little impetus to actually take steps towards enforcing those rights. In Grootboom the Court was faced with the issue of a group of displaced squatters, who felt that their rights under sections 26 (everyone has right to adequate housing) and 28 (1) (c) (every child has right shelter) were being violated. This is displayed through the Popes reply to Marguerite s letter. it appears he has discovered, upon a thorough examination of many branches of the family tree of the world s great nobility, that you two are cousins ... and that is forbidden by the church and by god . This proved that Marguerite and Edmund could not get married and fulfill their holy matrimony. Another rule found in Flanders was that a married couple could not separate until one of them died. This meant that Marguerite was the only heir to Flanders, as her little brother Boudewijn died and her mother could not bare her father any more children. It brings ... There is a big difference from then and now including our language and culture. First is the difference between their language and the language now which is modern English. Anglo Saxon language is the oldest known form of English language and is also called as Old English. Even though it is referred as old English, their language is far different from modern English and is closer to modern German. The distinction can be seen, for example, on the old English word haftling, to the modern English word prisoner. The similarities to modern German can be seen from the old English haftling, not changing and still being haftling now. Their rich language was used on their great works such as the four manuscripts and, of course, the majestic Beowullf. Old English influenced modern English in some little ways. Old English, as the ancestor, evolved and modified making it less noticeable now but it is actually used in our everyday lives. In terms of values, their point of view can be a bad view for us. • 40. The Gross Domestic Product ( Gdp ) The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) represents the monetary value of all the finished goods and services produced within a country s geographic borders in a determined period of time. It is used as a quantitative measure of the total economic activity of a nation, and it is usually calculated on an annual basis. The GDP can be determined in three different ways: output or production measure, income measure, and expenditure measure. In theory, it should all give the same number. The output or production approach defines the GDP as the value of the goods and services produced by all sectors of the economy. It is calculated by adding the value of the total sales of goods, minus the intermediate consumption used to produce the final goods sold. The income approach of calculating GDP is defined as the total income earned by the factors of production within an economy. First, you should determine the National Income by adding all the wages, rents, interests, and profits earned within an specific period of time. Then, it is added the value of Sales Taxes, Depreciation and Net Foreign Factor Income, and the final result will be GDP. The expenditure approach identifies four possible destinations for the total production of an economy. This output can be consumed by households, businesses, the governmentor the foreign sector. That is why the GDP can be calculating by adding the total amount of the purchases made within an economy in a period of time. From this approach we can identify ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Slavery In The 1800s Mason Fleischauer Rahner Collegio Mr. Arthur Slavery Essay In the 1700 s and 1800 s, the planter elite class of the American South conspired with both federal and state governments and other whites to institutionalize slavery in order to protect their economic and social power and way of life. Their efforts were generally wide spread, simple, blatant and generally very effective. At the federal level, southerners in the House of Representatives, who were often controlled and funded by the planter elites, won approval of James Madison s resolution which declared that Congress ha[s] no authority to interfere in the emancipation of slaves, or in the treatment of them within any of the States. Laws like the Alabama Slave Code of 1852 not only required all whites to patrol plantations so slaves did not escape, they also prohibited slaves from travelling without their masters, from carrying any kind of weapon, from owning property and from gathering in groups larger than five (Primary Source Packet). Most any violation of the Code resulted in branding, whipping or death. These regulations prevented slaves from ever gaining power, defending themselves or trying to organize or rebel against slavery. They also helped the elites control poor yeomen whites by giving them jobs, minor government positions and rewards for patrolling and capturing escaped slaves. The Plantation Slave Roles also incentivized slaves to follow authority even if it meant hiding their beliefs and emotions or even beating or whipping other slaves (Primary Source Packet). The Roles effectively helped the planter elites institutionalize slavery with the help of slaves. The planter elite class relied on slavery in order to protect their economic way of life. They used their wealth and power to ensure that the northern states and federal government did not interfere with slavery in the south. The elites similarly used their wealth and power to establish local and state laws to prevent slaves from gaining power or rebelling, and they also incentivized poor whites to support slavery by rewarding with money, jobs and minor government positions. • 44. Eutrophication Essay Eutrophication comes from the Greek word eutrophos meaning well nourished. In other words, this natural process found in water occurs as a result of additional rich nutrients forming a flourish in plant production. At this moment in time, eutrophication is causing worldwide devastation to not only aquatic life, but the fishing industry. The release of nutrients into fresh water lakes, rivers and reservoirs leads to excessive growth of three different plant species: a) Open water algae (phytoplankton) b) Attached algae (periphyton) c) Higher plants (macrophytes) Above all, these organisms encourage the growth of algae, which absorb dissolved oxygen in the water essential for the survival of fish populations. Occasionally, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is an example of phytoplankton as it is suspended freely on the surface of most rivers and lakes. Now, of course, the open water algae have optimum solar energy, a sufficient supply of water from below and carbon dioxide which is absorbed from either the water or sediments. Photosynthesis is more likely to happen and trigger the production of algal blooming [Fig 2] as oxygen will stimulate plant respiration. I believe that low dissolved oxygen (DO) is the most destructive effect of eutrophication, depriving aquatic life of food and natural habitats. Nevertheless high concentrations of DO may assist algae in their production, so adequate proportions are essential to ensure a constant environment. Other factors associated with this process include too much organic matter which is made up of carbon atoms and carbon carbon, C C bonds. This indirectly effects fish life as eggs and food sources are smothered. Algal chlorophyll in Mj #248;sa, Norway In the past 10 years, NIVA (Norwegian Institute for Water Research) have continued to measure the concentrations of chlorophyll in almost 350 Norwegian freshwater lakes.
