There are 270 bones in the human body at birth, decreasing to 206 by adulthood due to the fact
that some bones fuse together as we grow. The functions of the skeletal system are numerous. It
provides a framework for the body; produces blood cells; provides protection for organs; helps us
breathe; acts as a warehouse for mineral storage and allows for movement.
Bones in the human body form in the process called ossification. There are four stages in
ossification, 1.) Embryonic bone formation; 2.) Bone growth throughout life starting in infancy
through adulthood; 3.) Bone remodeling, and 4.) Fracture (breaks in the bone) repair.
The visible layer of a bone is called the periosteum, which is a type of tough connective tissue.
The periosteum contains blood vessels, lymph vessels, nerves and cells that assist in rebuilding
damaged bone tissue. Additionally, ligaments and tendons attach to the periosteum. The end of
the bone is called the epiphysis, and the region between the ends is called the diaphysis. On
examination of a bone, you can see the epiphyseal plate, often called the growth plate. This looks
like a line dividing the diaphysis and epiphysis. Inside the bone is a hollow channel. This is called
the medullary cavity, and acts as a storage place for yellow and red bone marrow. Yellow marrow
gets its color from high fat content. Red marrow makes blood cells.
There are 2 types of bone tissue, spongy and compact bone. Compact bone is hard and usually
found in the shafts of long bones, and in the outer layer of other types of bones. (There are 4 types

packed, making it strong and dense.
Spongy bone is the interior of the bone. Spongy bone has larger spaces than compact bone,

Two things didn t mix well in my life. One was being a full time student and the other an athlete.
It was great not having parents around telling you to do your homework or to go to class, of
which I never did. I had a choice, which was more important, playing lacrosse or studying. Like any
first year college student I picked lacrosse. At that point I didn t realize what I was getting myself
into. Who at that age would know either?
My worst nightmare came true in the summer of 1989. I was academically dismissed from the
university. I thought to myself no way, this could never happen to me, I played lacrosse, had a

was just as good, that year my grade point average was a 3.46. I was happy, and so were my
parents. I proceeded to reapply back to my former university and was accepted. I gradated with

Being dismissed from college was one experience that I have never regretted and never will. I
can see why this happened; I was a student athlete, which doesn t mix. Being an athlete in college
I had to practice Monday through Saturday, I was always tired, too tired to study and go to class.
I did learn a couple things though, sportsmanship, self discipline, teamwork, cooperation, and
concentration. Too bad none of these attributes rubbed off on my schooling. The university said
that they would help me out with my schoolwork but that was just a lie, one in which they still

to fall asleep in class. The university was only worried about winning games and being nationally
recognized. They didn t help me when I was doing poorly and even after I was dismissed.

The Internet of Things (IoT) helps us sense meaningful data from the physical world. In recent
years, its ability to sense the data has increased tremendously, which increases the prospects of IoT
applications useful to humans. Machine learning will play a big part to help IoT derive sense from
raw data and deliver useful information.
A simple quantitative analysis is done on two broad categories of applications a smart glass that
uses a deep learning network to perform real time recognition on video stream that it captures, and
a server cluster that trains the model associated with the deep network. The analysis showed
differences between the computational capabilities of current systems and the needs levied by
these application cases. The authors hypothesize that deep learning will be one of the important
part of the computing platforms and will be extensively deployed. The Paper discusses the
following potential procedures to improve the efficiency of deep learning for embedded computing
systems accelerators for deep learning, approximate computing and neuromorphic circuits based on
emerging post CMOS devices.

involve processes such drying, evaporation, oxidation metabolism, polymerisation and degradation

and/or new compounds is critical in determining the age of a latent fingerprint. Even though the
idea of determining the absolute or relative age of fingerprints has been around for some time, a

The novels The Red Badge of Courage and The Locket are a very significant piece of readings.
The books tell a historic event by giving highly descriptive details and activities that would put you
in a place of where it is being held. The two readings have numerous of similarities of settings and

However, they do have some differences which make these two storybooks great, understanding,

The most drastic influences of human modifications result from urbanisation, a progression
characterised by human disturbance, buildings and other artificial infrastructure (Hahs and
McDonnell 2006). Such modifications have significant effects on biodiversity, often with little
thought being given to the long term effects and ways of mitigating them.
In most cases, human alteration of the environment has reduced biological diversity by replacing
the native flora with new ecological spaces. However, urbanization, especially in suburbia, can
introduce many new resources (McDonnell and Pickett 1990; Pickett et al. 2001) which coexist

residential areas. At each site the standardised search bird survey method was used (Watson 2003)
with the boundaries of the designated patch provided, the area was searched for any birds present
(on ground, in trees or in flight). Each detection was recorded according to their species, number
observed and the time observed. This process continued until no new species was sighted for 20
