The early liberal figures rejected many foundational assumptions which dominated earlier theories of
regime, such as the divine right of kings, traditional status, and established religion, and strongly
focused on individual freedom, reason, justice and tolerance. However the irony of the revolution
remains that it itself took birth out of brutality and bloodshed.
CRITICISM ON THE IDEA OF LIBERALISM:
But not everybody was happy on what was happening in the French society due to the enlightenment
thoughts. Burke is famous for his great support for the American Revolution and his fierce opposition
to the French Revolution. He expressed his opposition in Reflections on the Revolution in France
(1790). Burke emphasized the dangers of mob rule, fearing that the Revolution s vehemence was
destroying French society. Burke appealed to the qualities of continuity, tradition, status and property
and opposed the Revolution to the end of his life. (History)
All circumstances taken together, the French revolution is the most astonishing that has hitherto
happened in the world. The most wonderful things are brought about, in many instances by means the
most absurd and ridiculous, in the most ridiculous modes, and apparently by the most contemptible
instruments. Everything

Ted Bundy Case Summary
Summary of Case Bundy always had a way to manipulate women, He d often disguise himself with
facial hair or draw on moles and pretend to be an authority figure ( Ted Bundy Biography ,2018). He
would also pretend to be a handicapped individual to gain the sympathy of these women . He would
put fake casts on one of his legs or arms, then go out in public pretending to struggle with books and
boxes hoping a woman might help him ( Ted Bundy Biography ,2018). This was Bundy s way of
planning his attack on the victims. There was also the incident where Bundy abducted and killed a
twelve year old child. Bundy also lured 12 year old Lynette Dawn Culver away from her junior high
school in Pocatello, Id. He abducted her, took her back to his hotel room where he raped her, drowned

would actually engage in a catch and release type of training during his off season ( Ted Bundy
Biography ,2018). Ted on his last attacks left two girls alive, they had to testify against this monster.
During pretrial maneuvering they had to face bundy (Living Victims,2018). The reason Ted Bundy

He at one point disabled a women s car in order to make her become vulnerable to him making this a

Little Albert And Ethical Controversy
Examine the Historical and Ethically Controversial Case of Little Albert
For many decades, psychological testing and theories has played a significant role in psychology and
has always raised a concern in regards to ethics. Ethics is simply about knowing the difference
between right and wrong. Therefore, in psychology, researchers have a moral responsibility to protect
their participants from harm. In this week assignment, I will examine the ethical controversy that has
caused many questions and concerns about the episode of John Watson and The Little Albert
Experiment.

assistants, Rosalie Rayner during in the 1920s. The study was conducted at John ... Show more

Essay on The Global Positioning System
The Global Positioning System The global positioning system (GPS) is a satellite based navigation
system, consisting of a network of 24 orbiting satellites travelling on six different orbital paths. These
satellites, referred to as NAVSTAR satellites, are constantly moving, making two complete orbits
around earth per day. The first GPS satellite was launched in February, 1978. Satellites now weight
approximately 1 tonne, and are about 5 metres across with extended solar panels. GPS needs at least
24 satellites to provide full coverage of every point on the earth, all the time. To calculate one position
on the earth, at least 3 satellites are needed. Currently, there are 28 working ... Show more content on

The time difference then determines how far away the particular satellite is. Through trigonometry,
with a minimum of three satellites, the GPS receiver is then able to determine a latitude/longitude
position, and with a further satellite, also the altitude. Through constant updates of your position, a
receiver can also provide accurate measures of speed and direction of travel. The accuracy of the GPS
system used to be hindered principally by a source of position error called Selection Availability (SA),
intentionally imposing inaccuracies of up to 100m on civilian GPS by the US Defense, the idea being
that SA would prevent hostile terrorist organisations holding the maximum power of GPS. Some other
factors affect accuracy the relative positions of each satellite in the sky, multi pathing (where the
satellite reception is blocked/reflected by buildings, obstructions of the like) and propagation delay
due to atmospheric effects. Some internal clock errors may also occur. In order to improve accuracy,
one can implement correctional information and computing, as well as using more sophisticated radio
reception techniques. A process known as Differential GPS (DGPS) employs a second receiver at a
fixed location to compute corrections to the GPS satellite

Persuasive Essay On Donald Trumps
There are any reasons why hillary clinton should have won. Im am going to state only a few reasons
why donald trump should have lost. Hillary even won the popular vote and still lost the election to a
rapist a sexist and a racist. And the many other horrible things that donald trump is. Donald trump
violates a lot of the constitution not letting people have the same rights. Deporting people who are
citizens just because they look wrong to him. He s a jerk and bully he doesn t care what other people
want just what he wants. When he says he will make america great again no it should be he will make
america bad again . All he ever does is criticize people around him. He doesn t care what they think all
he cares about is himself. He goin got cause a war with someone (most likely iraq).
He s a horrible person and i don t know how he is president. Another reason that donald trump should
have won is the fact the hillary won the popular vote is crazy. That has only happened 5 times in the
entire history of the constitution. Everyone agrees that he is a gigantic asshole. Thousands of people
protest trump being president to this very day because they think he is a threat to this country. Many of

disregards all the other ones. He wants to deport people out of the united states just because of their
religion and race or color. donald trump only cares about himself and he want people who don t look

The Wealth Of Nations By Adam Smith Essay
In the Wealth of Nations, Adam Smith talks about international trade and subsequent government
policies which became increasingly significant throughout modern history. Protectionism is the term
for economic policies of restraining trade between countries when they want to protect their domestic
industries from foreign competition. Trades nowadays have different forms and methods and involve
more businessmen as well as consumers, which is why trade diplomats are looking to regional
agreements. The US experienced two major economic declines during the 20th century, both of which
had much to do with international trade. Smith mentioned tariffs in the 18th century, but the role and
forms of protectionism have changed across time, so we should know whether the development of
economy should actually be correlated with or decided by the political sector of the society and when
protectionism will benefit or hurt economy.
Main protectionist policies include tariffs, quotas, embargos and voluntary export restraints, and Adam
Smith s idea of absolute advantage has been developed further to explain international trade. In recent
years, protectionism has become closely related to globalization during which the influences of trades
spread almost everywhere, so people insist upon the study of social deformities generated by improper
policies on international trade and the task of pointing them out with a view to remedy. There are
certainly both economic and political purposes of trade

Response To Conflict
The way a person responds to conflict can determine success or failure. The type of response a person
has can have an impact impact on them and the people around them. This being said, people can react
to different types of conflict in different ways. Everybody has instincts, but the instincts vary from
person to person. Fight or flight for instance is an instinct that every person experiences when conflict
arises. However whether they fight or flight differs. If someone were suddenly jumped in a dark alley,
one person might try to fight their way out while another may instinctively take off running in the
other direction. For example if I were in a fight or flight situation, I would most likely fight unless I
was outnumbered or my opponent

The Resurrection Of Jesus The Christ
INTRODUCTION The Resurrection of Jesus the Christ validates who Jesus was and is. Jesus has, or
had not been resurrected everything about Him is annulled. Furthermore, it invalidates who we are as
followers of Christ; the passage where this truth is emphasized more than any other is in John s
writing of his account of the Gospel with the foretold and predictions of the righteous, unrighteous,
and of Jesus own resurrection; John 5:24 29 . If one was to look in the Holman Christian Apologetic
Study Bible (Holman 2003), they may see a note that is in reference and a prediction (or prophecy) of
this passage of scripture that deals with Jesus (a person whom has already died an earthly death is in
reference to Job) own resurrection, in which it is found in Job (19:23 27); the Scripture says, I wish
that my words were written down, that they were recorded on a scroll or were inscribed in stone
forever by an iron stylus and lead! But I know my living Redeemer, and He will stand on the dust at
last. Even after my skin has been destroyed, yet I will see God in my flesh. I will see Him myself; my
eyes will look at [Him], and not as a stranger. My heart longs within me. This critique and analyze the
following passage of Scripture that will outline the One whom is it that John is talking about (in the
Gospel of St. John; chapter 5 verses 24 thru 29); who is it that Jesus is talking, who shall be judged (is
the righteous or the unrighteous); who is being addressed, and

The Ethics of Boeing and Mr. Harry Stonecipher Essay
Harry Stonecipher and the ethics of Boeing
Should Harry Stonecipher have been fired for having a consensual affair with another executive at
Boeing Aircraft? The answer is most decidedly yes. In many people s eyes this affair could have
violated the company s code of conduct, and went against the reason Harry Stonecipher was hired. His
actions showed flaws in his character that could have been damaging to the company had he been
allowed to stay. The Boeing board of directors had no other choice than to tender Mr. Stonecipher s
resignation.
It was stated in an article in the March 2008 Tribune Business News that, Although the relationship

Stoneciphers infraction?
Mr. Stonecipher was hired to clean up Boeing, and to keep the company out of the ethical spotlight. It
was therefore his duty to live by the standards he enforced. If he was unable to do that, then he should
have stepped down as CEO before this extra marital affair was brought to light. Hypocrisy is no way
to lead a company. It will only cause dissension among peers and employees.
Senior leaders of a company are the moral rocks that the company bases its values on. If a leader
demonstrates strong moral values and a desire to do what is considered right by the majority of his
employees his attitude will, after a time become infectious. The majority of his employees will begin
to emulate his actions, and begin to modify their values to meet his. This would result in increased
productivity and a more pleasant work environment. At the same time, if that same leader were to
demonstrate questionable values and a do as I say not as I do attitude the same thing would occur. The
majority of his employees would begin to lower their moral values and the overall productivity of the
company would suffer.
Although Mr. Stonecipher was unable to live up to his duties of keeping Boeing out of the ethical
spotlight and setting the standard for his employees to follow, the Boeing board of directors did just
that. By requiring Mr. Stonecipher to tender his resignation they

The Partition Of Indian Subcontinent
The partition of Indian subcontinent into Pakistan and India in 1947 left unresolved the status of
Kashmir, after 60 70 years it is clear that Pakistan must recognize that India has Kashmir and that the
conflict has been settled over time, and most people are happy with that fact. There has been a
continual use of force by the upset and unhappy people of Pakistan. The tension between India and
Pakistan has continued for over six decades and at an enormous cost. This partition is one of the
biggest reasons why the relationship between Pakistan and India has struggled throughout history.
Throughout this paper I will address the main reasons why India ruling Kashmir is a positive thing for
the Kashmiri people.
Dating back to the partition of India in 1947, the disputes in Kashmir continue on in our present day.
This conflict mainly involves India, Pakistan, and China over disputes in territory. This problem was
spread throughout a range of states that were run by Maharaja s prevailing within the newly
independent countries Pakistan and India (Insight on Conflict 2016). The people living in India before
the 1947 partition had the choice of either joining India or Pakistan, the people were not entitled to
remain independent (Kanwal 2014). Maharaja Hari Singh at the time did not want to choose between
the states of India and Pakistan he preferred to be independent. He signed an agreement to stay neutral
with the both India and Pakistan, this was an honor to India but Pakistan

Rehabilitating Our Criminals Essay
Rehabilitating Our Criminals
America releases 600,000 prisoners each year, but does little to prepare them for work or to improve
their unlawful habits. However not surprisingly within three years, many of the ex convicts are re
arrested (Irwin 38). People who have already spent time in prison or jail move back to some of
America s poorest neighborhoods to terrorize neighbors who can ill afford the costs of crime. United
States prisons are ineffective in protecting society and in rehabilitating criminals to return to society.

U.S. government official, Donald Taylor states, Over the past ten years, prisons have maintained their
essential task: keeping United States citizens safe from convicted felons (Ballard). The overall purpose
of a prison is to keep bad people away from society where they are not able to commit violent acts
against innocent people. Essentially, prisons are effective because they lock up the people who are a
threat to the society. According to the book entitled, Evaluation of Penal Measures, The range for
success in rehabilitation cases range from 30 percent success to 60 percent success (Wilkins 82). This
particular study was taken over a five year period and shows rehabilitation had a positive impact on
many prisoners once released into society.
Although the overall purpose of rehabilitation in prison has its positive aspects, the weaknesses of
rehabilitation make prison time ineffective in protecting society. Rehabilitation may provide aide to
some of the prisoners; however, there are still a large number of prisoners who are not affected by the
rehabilitation and leave prison in the same state of mind as the day they were sentenced. Twenty five
percent of all prisoners released commit an additional crime within five years of being released
(Irwin). Prisons dramatically change the values and morals of a person. According to a book entitled,
The Felon, Persons who are sentenced to prison experience a sudden blow that hurls them

History Of Native Americans
James K. Polk offered Mexico 30 million dollars for the land, but Mexico turned it down. Polk then
moves troops into a disputed zone between the Rio Grande and the Nueces Riverto. Mexico still upset
about Texas, responds by sending troops out and it results in the loss of 12 U.S. soldiers. Polk uses this
and gets Congress to sign off on a war and in the course of two years proceeds to defeat Mexico. It
ends with the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, signed February 1848, which essentially was the
submission of all land north of the Rio Grande to the U.S. The U.S. erased Mexico s debt to them,
which was about 3 million dollars and proceeded to give Mexico 15 million dollars for the land now
acquired. This land would later be known as Texas (who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later on that year, the Mexicans evicted all Americans from their property in the disputed Mesilla
Valley. In response, Governor William Lane of New Mexico declared Mesilla Valley as apart of U.S.
territory of New Mexico. Mexican President Antonio Santa Anna responded by sending troops into the
valley. U.S. President Franklin Pierce sends James Gadsden to negotiate and resolve the issue. In need
of money to fund an army to fight rebellions in Mexico, Santa Anna agrees to 45,000 square miles for
15 million dollars. The treaty was later ratified by the U.S. Senate to 29,670 square miles for 10
million dollars. It was signed on June 8, 1854.
The two countries were still in tense conflict but seemed to help the other in times of need. While the
U.S. was fighting in World War I, Mexicans were encouraged to migrate to help out with the labor
shortage. Mexicans also fought in the American Civil War and the U.S. accepted migrants and
refugees from Mexico during the Mexican Revolution (1910 1920). Also, times were changing and
farming was not a stable enough income so many Mexican migrant workers moved from rural areas to
those participating in mining and machinery. Along with the rapid increase of Mexican immigrants
into the U.S. for job opportunities and safe haven, were immigrants coming over from many other
countries for similar reasons. This higher density in population led to a rise in crime rate. This led to

Wooden Fish Songs, a historical novel written by Ruthanne Lum McCunn, is written with three
narrators. The main character in this story is Lue Gim Gong, a Chinese immigrant who gives up his
country and family to pursue his passion for botany. Three women that knew him the best narrate Lue
Gim Gong s story from three distinct cultures and three distinct points of view. They include his
mother Sum Jui, his teacher Fanny Burlingame, and a friend that he makes named Sheba. Their
contrasting perspectives are carefully interwoven from chapter to chapter. Lue, however, never gets a
voice throughout the book; this makes Lue Gim Gong s life even more puzzling than it already is. ...

Fanny also converts Lue to Christianity and encourages his garden research but keeps him financially
dependent. Fanny is the daughter of a strict industrialist; she is well drawn in this novel. She is too
strong to accept the lack of power women faced at the time. Uninterested in men, she invests all of her
emotions in Jesus until she meets Lue Gim Gong.
She sees Lue as her creation; others see him as her pet. In fact, he is more independent than she can
accept. Rudely rejecting the possibility of a positive influence from his own family, she says how she
made him as much of an improved variety of Chinaman as his salmonberry, cherry currant, and
tomato were of plants (McCunn, 154). Though her closeness to him it allows her to be offended by
others racism, as she regards him as someone special rather than a typical Chinaman. After Fanny s
death, he was barred from the church they had regularly worshipped in, on account of his color.
Finally there is Sheba, Fanny s black servant whose father was murdered by the Ku Klux Klan shortly
after winning his freedom from slavery. Sheba worked alongside Lue in the orange groves and
probably understood him best. This is because Sheba s eyes were the least blinded by prejudice and
ignorance. Unlike their white neighbors, neither Lue nor Sheba was too proud to share their different
knowledge and company.

works of poetry in the English language. Carefully measured stanzas with a fascinating rhyme scheme
embedded throughout, together with the unique and completely individualistic style of its author, are
but a few of the elements that combine to elevate this poem in the public eye. It reaches an as yet

Our only other possible conclusion, then, is that the victim of dementia is the narrator. The bird is as
innocent as he is ebony. This man suffers, as many have, from the pangs of a pierced heart. He has

the old adage, it is not better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all. The rare and

saddened. He compares this evening visitor as only another friend which will soon depart, just as other
friends have flown before (58). But the raven again echoes quite aptly his one word vocabulary, thus
leading the man on to think more deeply about the possibilities that exist at this juncture. Somewhere

Common Stock And Preferred Stock Essay
First: Equity
Common Stock and Preferred Stock are both methods of purchasing equity in a business entity.
Common stock generally carries voting rights along with it, while preferred shares generally do not.
Preferred shares act like a hybrid security, in between common stock and holding debt. Preferred stock
can (depending on the issue) be converted to common stock and have access to accumulated dividends
and multiple other rights. Preferred stock also has access to dividends and assets in the case of
liquidation before common stock does. Second :Debt
Debt can be purchased from a company in the form of a bond.
A bond is a financial security that represents a promise by a company or government to repay a certain
amount, with interest, to the bondholder.
# Bonds and stocks are both securities, but the major difference between the two is that (capital)
stockholders have an equity stake in the company (i.e., they are owners), whereas, bondholders have a
creditor stake in the company (i.e., they are lenders). Another difference is that bonds usually have a
defined term, or maturity, after which the bond is redeemed, whereas stocks may be outstanding
indefinitely

Tobacco Cessation
Introduction
Smoking is the leading cause of preventable death in the United States and worldwide (Centers for
Disease Control, 2013, World Health Organization, 2008). Tobacco cessation counseling is a vital
component of any public health strategy seeking to decrease mortality, disease and costs associated
with smoking. To that end, the Healthy People 2020 Tobacco Use Objectives cover three main areas:
reducing tobacco use, instituting health system changes, and creating social and environmental
changes (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2013). Objective TU 10 falls under the
category of health system changes as it seeks to open doors for patients to make quit attempts and to

Social Determinants of Health
Social factors associated with higher rates of smoking include low SES being unemployed, homeless,
mentally ill, those who are incarcerated, and single parents. (see Bryant at end). Perhaps the strongest
associations are between low SES and higher rates of tobacco use. Sadly, those with low SES not only

In the U.S., only 20% of those at or above the poverty level smoke, compared with 30% of those
below the poverty level (Hiscock, Bauld, Fidler, and Munafo, 2012). Teenage girls of families with
lower SES are more likely to smoke (Hiscock et al, 2012). In addition, those with low SES are less
likely to quit smoking successfully and may be less likely to intend or attempt to quit (Reid,
Hammond, Boudreau, Fong, and Siahpush, 2010). Reid and coauthors surveyed over16,000 smokers
in the US, UK, Canada and the United Kingdom and found that those with higher education were
more likely to say they intend to quit smoking, attempt to quit and to be abstinent for between one and
six months. Higher income was also associated with stated intention to quit and abstinence of at least
one month (Reid et al, 2010). In addition, those with low SES

The Real Irish Republican Army
RIRA: Description of group The Real Irish Republican Army (RIRA) is a splinter group of the Irish
Republican Army (IRA) that uses sabotage, subversion, and guerilla warfare to express its opposition
to the terms of the 1998 Good Friday Agreement. This agreement basically recognized that the
majority of the people within Northern Ireland wished to remain a part of the United Kingdom. It also
recognized that a large section of the people of Northern Ireland, and the majority of the people of the
continent of Ireland wanted a united Ireland. For the most part, the Good Friday Agreement brought
an end to the struggle between unionists and nationalists during the Troubles (an unconventional war
spanning from 1968 1998 in Northern Ireland between British security forces, republican and loyalist
paramilitaries, and civil rights groups). To understand how the RIRA came to be, you have to know a
little about the history of the IRA. Specifically, on how the members regarded violence as a means to a
unified Ireland without British involvement. In December 1969, the IRA divided into Official and
Provisional wings. Both factions were committed to a united Irish republic, but the Officials eschewed
violence after 1972, whereas the Provisionals, or Provos, carried out various attacks and
assassinations, attempting to compel the British Army to withdraw from Northern Ireland. In the wake
of the Bloody Sunday shootings by the British military in January 1972, the Provos ranks

Brain Ischemia Summary
In a study conducted 25 years ago, Hoffman et al determined the neuroprotective effects of Dex in
animals with different insults to the brain has been reported in a study which showed that this drug

histopathological outcome after incomplete cerebral ischemia in rats. [1]. It was demonstrated that
brain ischemia improved neurological and histopathological outcome after incomplete ischemia in rats
that were administered nitrous oxide and fentanyl after reversing with atipamezole, providing an
evidence that the effect was contributed byα2 adrenergic receptors. However, Dex did not bring forth
any significant changes in glucose or physiologic variables during ischemia for improvement. The
study came to a conclusion that attenuation of symphathetic activity resulted by incomplete cerebral

John Doe Construction Failure
Picking the right contractor could mean the difference between an easy and enjoyable experience and
an endless sea of pain and suffering. Regardless of the size of the project, most people would narrow
down the requirements of a good contractor to three general categories: cost, quality, ability to meet
agreed upon time frames. For businesses, the only additional requirement is communication. As it
pains me to say, John Doe Construction failed to meet the basic expectations above, it also managed to
cost us significant amount of money due to delays. The names of the guilty have been changed to
protect the innocent. All of us, at one point or another, had to deal with a contractor, be it for

Digging
Seamus Heaney was born on April 13, 1939, on a farm in Castledawson,
County Derry, Northern Ireland, the eldest of eight children. In 1963, he began teaching at St. Joseph s
College in Belfast.
The first poem I ll be looking at is digging it was written in
1966.
The poem consists of 9 stanzas that vary between two lines and five lines in length. There is no pattern
to the stanzas, perhaps to reflect the idea that there is no pattern or predictability to our memories. In
the poem there is quite a variation in the language e.g. the title is blunt. It is only when we have read
the poem carefully that we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was also proud of his grandfather, who was so keen to work that he hardly stopped when Heaney
brought him some milk. To drink it, and then fell to right away this show how hard he worked. His
work was precise nicking and slicing neatly and he was strong heaving sods over his shoulder.
Heaney does not explain exactly why he has no spade to follow men like them . Does he think he is
not physically strong enough for the work? Or does he think his father and grandfather may not
approve of him cultivating the land.
There is quite a lot of alliteration in digging e.g. curd cuts digging down and down and the squelch
and slap of soggy peat this gives the poem life it makes it more interesting to read. The opening simile
is striking Heaney s pen is snug as a gun . It shows how perfectly the pen fits his hand, this shows how
well suited Heaney is to write. (In the fourth stanza, Heaney describes how perfectly his father s body
is in tune with the spade, showing how well suited he is to dig.) The gun image also suggests the
strength of the pen, it is a weapon for writing.
There is a writing technique called enjambment which means lines in a poem that run on from on to
another without a punctuation or pause.
There is an example of this between the second and third stanza. My father, digging.

The Effects Of Advertising On Society Essay
The Effects of Advertising on Society
Fr. Kavanaugh was on the mark when describing the effects of advertising on society. Our moral
values are being degraded by the bombardment of impropriety by the media. Adler would be quick in
pointing out the reason why these messages have such a negative effect on people. There are two main
tactics advertisers use to sell their product: either imply that their product will bring about the
achievement of a particular (usually real) good, or make their product the object of desire, therefore
making it an apparent good to people. The problem with associating products with the achievement of
a good lies more in the realm of truth than in good, because it lies in whether ... Show more content on

Though these products are by no means needs, the associations make people believe that the
advertised product embodies the good they need, and to achieve that good they must buy the product.
Companies don t advertise perfumes, for example; they advertise relationships. They don t advertise
clothing; they advertise independence. Slowly, as people hear these messages more and more, they
start associating more importance to the product than to the good involved, like a sort of idol worship
and here is where the real problems set in. Now that advertisers have people sold on the product, they
can influence people s desires.
This is what Fr. Kavanaugh saw when he said that advertising is damaging society s moral values.
Calvin Klein, for example, has already become one of those companies whose product has become
more important than the good they represent in other words, Calvin Klein products are now in and of
themselves the good some people try to achieve. Thus, when their ads show immoral situations or
actions (like the infamous child pornography ads that spurred many debates and a lawsuit against the
company), people associate these immoral actions with the quot;good quot; Calvin Klein products,
and people will slowly grow desensitized to them. Advertising, therefore, plays a notable role in the
moral growth or stunting

to explain how the black community took the once malicious word and made it powerless to them. It
would no longer provide a method of insolent for whites. This quote show how changing the meaning

The Focal Length of Spherical Mirrors

Section 1: To determine the focal length of a Concave Mirror by locating the centre of curvature.
ABSTRACT:
In this paper we want to discuss the focal point of a concave mirror by locating the centre of
curvature. The focal point is a point in space at which light incident towards the mirror and travelling
parallel to the principal axis will meet after reflection. The diagram at the right depicts this principle.
In fact, if some light from the sun were collected by a concave mirror, then it would converge at the
focal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the diagram I have drawn I ve had to exaggerate the shape of the mirror a bit to be able to use it in
some of the diagrams later on, but you should be able to get the basic idea. Like a regular circle, the
distance from the centre to the surface of the mirror is the radius.
Focus or Focal Point (F)
If an object was infinitely far away from the mirror, the light from it would converge on this one point.
In the diagrams we are doing we will mostly be looking at how some light rays pass through (or
appear to pass through) this focal point. The focal point is exactly in between the mirror and the
centre. Since the distance between the centre and the mirror is the radius, the distance from the focal
point to the mirror is half of the radius.
Principle Axis
The blue line is the principle axis, a line that we will use as a reference point in our diagrams. It passes
through the centre and is perpendicular to the surface of the mirror. (White, 1999)
There are two main rules we need to use to figure out where the image of the object will appear. All of
the rules involve what a ray will do when leaves the object.
Rule #1: Any ray through the focal point will reflect parallel to the principle axis (Figure 2).
Light reflects off objects at all sorts of angles, and if it will help us to find where an image is, we
might as well assume one ray goes right through the focus.

Essay on My Philosophy of Teaching
Philosophy of Education
Before a person goes into the education field, most have to do a lot of thinking to make sure that what
they are beginning is something that they will truly enjoy doing. Teachers do not go into their
profession for fame and fortune. They are there to educate children for a lifetime of learning.
Teaching is not something that I have had to think about. Teaching is something I have felt drawn to
ever since I was three or four years old playing school with my cousins. I have known that I wanted to
teach all of my life. Naturally I went through the I want to be a doctor, a firefighter, an astronaut, a

Once this is done then the school year can begin. The second role of the teacher comes from the
Behaviorist Philosophy, the controller of behavior. The teacher has to set rules that his/her students are
able to understand. Along with the rules the teacher needs to have consequences that the students will
have to pay if these rules are broken. A teacher must be consistent and treat all of his/her students the
same no matter what he/she know about the student or the student s past tendencies. The consequences
must be fair and suit the misbehavior. Also, like the Existentialists, I feel that the teacher has to be a
mediator. If the teacher notices that nay of his/her students are having problems with anyone else, the
teacher needs to step in and get the students to try to work their problems out in a reasonable way.
Being with the Progressivists, I feel that the teacher should be a guide for his/her students and a
director of learning. The teacher must guide his/her students to realize that they have to make their
own decisions. The children must realize that they do not have to do or say anything unless they want
to. The teacher has to be the one to show this to the students, otherwise they may never be told this.
Finally, as the director of learning the teacher has to encourage his/her students that learning is fun. If
the children do not understand something, the teacher is the one who has to make the time to explain it
better to the students. The

Consequentialism Vs Deontological Analysis
To analyze the dilemma one must understand how a consequentialist and a deontological would come
to their conclusions. A basic difference is the consequentialist would believe the end justifies the
means. A deontologist would conclude that irrespective of outcomes, the method or means should
conform to a stricture or rule set.
The consequentialist is focused on the consequences of the action. If the end result provides more
good than bad, they would conclude the action justifies the end result. To make a conclusion the
consequentialist would ask; who will be affected by the action, who would benefit from performing
the action, who would be harmed by performing the action, who would benefit from not performing
the action, who would be harmed by not performing the action. The consequentialist would then make
a decision based on were the most good would be derived. One of the most well known practices of
the consequentialist theory is Utilitarianism which is focused the the better good for society. ... Show

If the action itself is deemed inappropriate, then the action should not be performed regardless of how
beneficial the outcome would be. To determine if an action should be taken or not, a deontological
minded person would compare the performance of the action to a set of internal or external rule sets,
asking if others with this rule set would find the decision acceptable or not. If it is determined that
most with a similar rule set would find the action unacceptable then the action would not be taken
regardless of the benefits of the outcome. Kantianism is a well known deontological theory, where it is

A Raisin in the Sun
Though there was a heightened sense of tension over civil rights in the late 1950s when A Raisin in the
Sun was written, racial inequality is still a problem today. It affects minorities of every age and
dynamic, in more ways than one. Though nowadays it may go unnoticed, race in every aspect alters
the way African Americans think, behave, and react as human beings. This is shown in many ways in
the play as we watch the characters interact. We see big ideas, failures, and family values through the

Female Role In Modern Philosophy
The era of modern philosophy, with a special canalization period during the 18th and 19th centuries,
was a time of flourishing activity in terms of philosophical importance. Whether we re speaking with
relation to Cartesianism, the moral and political philosophy of Nietzsche, or another male during the
period, their philosophical ideologies still remain present and of use in multiple presentations from
bioethics to law. Transgressing beyond the grave, the impacts of these few still conquer, but what
about the ideologies of the nameless? Continually ignored within the narrative, one primary
demographic of philosophers during the era of modern philosophy that is commonly ignored is that of
women. Although the importance of female impact on modern philosophy is quantified as minuscule,
the females of this era had achievements and impacts on the ideologies of their predecessors and

The Westward Spread of Inca and Egyptian Culture The second half of the twentieth century has seen
many changes in theories concerning the mode of colonization of the islands of Micronesia, and the
rise of the Inca Empire, with it s striking similarities to Egypt. In the past, it has been suggested that
Asians had worked their way through the Pacific, over a period of thousands of years. It was believed
that each island group had formed independently, and that the residents, while they were of the same
race, had totally different cultures. Since the 1940 s, however, these views have been changing. It is

agriculture (Ra 30). These reed boats were the same size and specification of the boats used by
Egyptians, and the people who crewed them began, among other things, building pyramids and
statues, many of which still stand throughout Central and South America (Ra 3). In fact, the most
concrete piece of evidence linking the Egyptians and early Americans is a small stone statue,
discovered in Mexico, bearing features that are decidedly similar to those of Egyptian sculpture. The
statue was carbon dated 800 BC (Begley, et al 28), long before Europeans were said to have contacted
Central and South Americans. The Aztecs and Mayas of Central America also provide evidence of
Egyptian contact. The starting date of the Maya calendar is 12, 3113 BC. This is in the middle of the
first dynasty of the Pharaohs. If these Indians had already been in the Western Hemisphere for 15,000
years, why was it only after the Egyptians started using calendars that they did, and used such similar
methods. Mayan and Aztec texts also state that they became civilized only after a man, claiming
descent from the sun arrived from the Gulf of Mexico, with a complement of astronomers, architects
and priests. The Aztecs called the man/god Quetzalcoatl, and the Mayans called him Kukulkan. Both

Thales was the First Recorded Philosopher from Miletus
Thinkers within the realm of philosophy possessed a different train of thought that allowed them to
make massive discoveries. Thales is regarded as the first recorded philosopher from Miletus. He
believed reality was defined by water. Water rests on earth, reflects objects, and conforms to the shape
of other objects. During what we call the ancient period, 600 300 BCE, communities lived by water
supplies. Water is necessary to have the ability to obtain other means of survival. As opposed to
referring to religion, Thales rejected the concept of Gods on Mount Olympus. The reality beyond
mythology for Thales relied on the basis of water. Thales touched base with the concept of knowledge
through observing and perceiving the way water functioned around him.
Opposed to Thales, Anaximander perceived reality to be apeiron. Apeiron is defined as the indefinite.
Anaximander believed the origin (arkhe) of reality to be divine and eternal while containing and
guiding all within it. For him, water was too concrete of an object to be divine. In addition, remaining
opposite elements triumphs water. Anaximander reasoned even if water were reality, it lacks in areas
that makes it unable to be divine. Apeiron is an indefinite reality that is beyond the fixed matters on
Earth. Anaximenes rejected this theory. In turn he contradicted that physics translated into objects
surrounding us. The concept of aer does not refer to the air we breath rather a thick mist containing
two processes:

The Ionic Frieze Of The Parthenon
The ionic frieze of the Parthenon was considered by the Italian traveler and antiquarian Cyriac of
Ancona as one of the noblest images of the Parthenon. The ionic frieze measures some 160 meters, or
524 feet, and is visible along the upper walls of the cella in addition to across the two porches. Cyriac
was one of the first individuals to have sketched the figures on the frieze. The subject of the ionic
frieze according to Cyriac was the victories of the Athenians . The Doric frieze of the Parthenon in the
past presented 92 polychromatic carvings. The building upon which the frieze was built in the ionic
style was Doric. The two styles of design do not mesh, and did not occur at simultaneous periods in
history, making the presence of the ionic frieze something of a mystery. The general meaning of the
frieze at large, comprised of many parts, has thereby been drawn into question. While the frieze in in
superior condition than other elements of the Parthenon, such as the metopes, pediments, and
akroteria, much of it has nonetheless been lost, leaving open room for interpretation. The lack of
consensus over the meaning of the contents of the Parthenon is due in part to the height of the frieze.
Travelers in the 2nd century A.D., centuries before Cyriac, had noted the pediments; however there
was no discussion of the frieze. This may have been due to the fact that the frieze was too high.
Conversely, and as will be explored below, some of the legends therein

A Position Of Influence On The American Prison System
Project Summary: The United States incarcerates approximately 2.3 million prisoners as of 2016,
much greater than any other country. Though this large prison population exists, the crime rate is
similar to other, similarly developed, countries. This problem can be, if not solved, significantly
alleviated by implementing, as much as possible, the types of policy present in the German prison
system, and others like it. This project would recommend solutions to those in a position of influence
in the American prison system, a way to efficiently implement German, and other similar countries,
prison policy and principles in a manner that is applicable to already existing American prisons. I
estimate that I would need approximately three weeks to research further into this problem and its
solutions, and to write the recommendation report proposed here.
INTRODUCTION
The United States is spending close to $80 billion a year on prisons and rehabilitation programs, a lot
of which is going to waste as shown by the 50% recidivism rate. This proposal will demonstrate the
need for a restructuring of the prison system, the sources available for inspiration to help solve this
problem, and the need for the recommendation report proposed here.
The United States has about 5% of the world s population yet it accounts for about 25% of the world s
prisoners (Deady 2014). From the tough on crime mentality of the last few decades, our prison system
has bloated and become focused on punishment

Reasons Why Basketball Is The Best Sport
Many people believe that basketball and football can be the best sports in the world. Basketball can be
known as the best sport because it s played all over the world and tons of people like to play/watch it.
For football tons of people love to play the sport and tons of people like to watch football every
Sunday. In my opinion, I think baseball is clearly the best sport in the world. The great sport of
baseball was invented in 1839 in a town called Cooperstown, New York. Many of you might know
that this is now where the MLB hall of fame is located at and this is a great tourist destination. Once
the sport was founded here it started to branch out all over the country and even some parts of the
world. Now it s played in almost every single country in the entire world. It s crazy how a sport like
baseball can be played all around the world and rapidly grow that fast. In all sports getting injured is
always a possibility. In football and basketball ACL injuries are the most common injuries that a
player can get. Also in football, there s now a growing concern over CTE problems which is
concussions to the head. This is very scary for most players and now players are starting to retire for
this reason. In the MLB, the only concern of injuries is really in their arm and a player can almost
guarantee a return at some point. So, my point is that MLB doesn t have as many injuries as the other
sports do so this attracts more players. Baseball is the easiest sport to just pick up

The Battle of Hastings
The Battle of Hastings Why Did William Win?
On the 14th of October 1066, Duke William of Normandy defeated King Harold at the Battle of
Hastings. His win could be summed up by the fact that William was a better leader. Other factors that
contributed to William s victory include: William was better prepared, the English army was severely
weakened as Harold had just fought off an invasion in the North of England, and Harold made a fatal
mistake of prematurely entering the Battle of Hastings.
William was a better leader because although Harold had the upper hand in the battle and they were
losing, William managed to outwit and defeat the English. In the Bayeux Tapestry there is a scene
depicting that in the days preceding the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although he was victorious in both of them, his troops were exhausted and did not have sufficient
energy to perform at their best. At the beginning of the battle, he managed get a good advantage he
positioned his troops on top of a hill, making it difficult for William to get to his army and attack him.
However, towards the end of the battle, William set a trap to draw Harold from his strong position and
he fell for it. Once they were on even ground, Harold s exhausted troops could not counter the attacks
from William s well trained and nourished army.
The biggest mistake Harold made was entering the Battle of Hastings too early. Harold lost some of
his best fighters at the Battle of Stamford Bridge earlier that day and the rest of his army were tired
out from their previous battle. When they finally arrived in the South, he was overconfident that he
could win this battle because of his recent victories. Because of his misjudgement, he decided to rush
into battle with exhausted and unprepared troops. Towards the end of the battle, he fell for the trap that
William had set, seeing as he was tired and his troops couldn t wait to finish them off and get a good
rest. If he had given his army only a few days rest and fed them like William had to his troops, his
chances of winning the battle would have been a lot higher.
Ultimately, it was a

Impact Of Disaster On The World
Impacts of Disaster It was just a normal day for me. I followed my daily routine. I woke up, had
breakfast and was ready to prepare for my finals. Just when I was planning tomorrow s schedule,
suddenly, I felt a jolt. My whole body trembled and before I could figure out what was going on,
books started to fall from my shelves and pictures hanging on the walls started falling. When I looked
out of my window, the surrounding area was filled with dirt and smoke. I saw people running in the
middle of the road to save themselves from that disaster. Immediately I ran outside of my room. Just
like myself, my parents and my brother were also running for their life. On the way, my father lead us
towards the back of our house, where there was some empty space to protect ourselves from the
disaster. I had just experienced a devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake. I have never thought that a
high magnitude earthquake would ever come in this way. Literally, the whole thing was shaking
heavily. Even when we were observing from outside, the TV antenna on the top of my house was still
shaking. The high magnitude earthquake lasting for long time only lead to one thing: enormous
devastation of my city. All the things happening around me was like in the 2012 movie. Collapsing tall
buildings, and temples along with death of numerous number of peoples really shocked me. It was
difficult for me to figure out what was going on around that field. I saw people from my

Meet The Miller Essay
Meet the Miller
In the General Prologue of The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer presents his reader with a blend of unlikely
yet entertaining characters that find themselves on a pilgrimage to Canterbury. Chaucer then describes
the different characteristics and the outward appearances of these characters at length. He probably
does so in order to bring these characters to life, giving us a more vivid understanding of what kind of
people they were. The Miller is one of the most vivid characters that I have encountered in Chaucer s
work for he is perfectly delineated as the man he is, without including any unnecessary detail.
The Miller is described as a short and sturdy man who possesses uncanny strength. The undisputed
champion of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Norton, 554 557.
With a face like that, I would not mind charging at doors, either. But even though our Miller is an
uncouth, unmannered and disgusting lower class citizen, he is a product and a true representation of
the society he lives in.
If we look beyond the negative impressions that the Miller s behavior and appearance create in us, I
am sure we can find at least some worthy attribute that will change our opinion of him. To our
astonishment, Chaucer informs us that the Miller possesses a humorous and a poetic soul for he is a
janglere (chatterer) and a goliardais (teller of obscene stories) (Norton, 562). But all and any
remaining good opinion that the reader may have about the Miller is crushed by Chaucer s next lines
that complete his description of our working class hero:
He was a janglere and a Goliardais, And that was moost of synne and harlotries. Wel koude he stelen
corn and tollen thries; And yet he hadde a thombe of gold, pardee. Norton, 562 565.
Our Miller does compose songs, tales and even poems. Unfortunately, they are all about sinful and
immoral topics, as we see by the fabliau that he later tells to his fellow travelers. The Miller is strong,
jolly and poetic, and even though he does not strike us as a positive character, he appears all too real

G-protein-coupled receptors, also called GPCRs, form the...
G protein coupled receptors, also called GPCRs, form the largest receptor family among cell surface
proteins 1. This receptor family is large in size and very diverse, especially in mammalian genomes 2.
In simple terms, GPCRs are used for cellular communication 1. These receptors still need extensive
research since they are such a large, diverse group. More so, continued research can benefit humans
when it comes to pharmaceuticals. GPCRs are key when it comes to cells converting external signals
into the correct intracellular signals 1. There is more than 800 GPCRs within the human genome. They
are responsible for many of our everyday experiences. For example: some our senses (taste, vision,
and smell), fight or flight responses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pheromones are molecules released to convey social or sexual cues, done through individuals of the
same species 5. A hormone is a chemical carried via blood to another part of the body (not where it
was synthesized) where it can affect cellular activity 3. With a wide range of ligands that can be used
in the initial step we can see why so many things in our everyday experiences are controlled by
GPCRs. There are hundreds of different GPCRs that control a range of functions within the body. An
example of a GPCR is rhodopsin and protease activated receptors (PARs). Rhodopsin, a 7
transmembrane (7TM), activates the retinol molecule that is covalently linked in the TM cavity 1.
Rhodopsin does this by changing the configuration to activate the receptor; it changes from cis to trans
1. PAR is a family of 4 GPCRs that activate important signaling pathways 7. PARs activate signaling
pathways that deal with the following: survival, morphology, release of neurotransmitters, and activity
of ion channels 7. GPCRs are essential in numerous processes through the body (i.e. immunological
function and normal cell growth) 1. Therefore, pharmaceutical drugs are known to target these G
protein coupled receptors and this is expected to increase with our knowledge of GPCRs. Cimetidine
is one GPCR drug that blocks the action of Beta adrenergic receptors (βARs) and H2 histamine

If the problem is not the control and is lying in the performance of the trucks itself he should consider
selling truck 3 and buy a new truck that will perform and earn plus minus the income of truck 2.
In conclusion truck 3 is the newest truck, 1 year and 9 months old, but it has the lowest income earned
per round trip and a high fuel and maintenance cost.
Therefore truck 3 is the least profitable of the three trucks.
Question 5
What advice would you give Jimmy so that he can maintain effective control over his trucks in the
future?
Answer
For Jimmy to maintain effective control over his trucks the following is advised:
His trucks need to be maintained regular and on time in order to extend its lifespan and to ensure
effective use of the trucks in order to generate maximum profit.
He must check the millage travelled on each round trip
Jimmy must install tracking devices on each truck to keep track of where the truck is at all times.
The tracking device will help to make sure that the trucks are not misused or abused by the drivers.
The tracking device will also give control over the number of hours of each round trip.
He must make sure that the trucks are properly insured against theft, accidents etc.

The early liberal figures rejected many foundational assumptions which dominated earlier theories of regime, such as the divine right of kings, traditional status, and established religion, and strongly focused on individual freedom, reason, justice and tolerance. However the irony of the revolution remains that it itself took birth out of brutality and bloodshed. CRITICISM ON THE IDEA OF LIBERALISM: But not everybody was happy on what was happening in the French society due to the enlightenment thoughts. Burke is famous for his great support for the American Revolution and his fierce opposition to the French Revolution. He expressed his opposition in Reflections on the Revolution in France (1790). Burke emphasized the dangers of mob rule, fearing that the Revolution s vehemence was destroying French society. Burke appealed to the qualities of continuity, tradition, status and property and opposed the Revolution to the end of his life. (History) All circumstances taken together, the French revolution is the most astonishing that has hitherto happened in the world. Ted Bundy Case Summary Summary of Case Bundy always had a way to manipulate women, He d often disguise himself with facial hair or draw on moles and pretend to be an authority figure ( Ted Bundy Biography ,2018). He would put fake casts on one of his legs or arms, then go out in public pretending to struggle with books and boxes hoping a woman might help him ( Ted Bundy Biography ,2018). This was Bundy s way of planning his attack on the victims. There was also the incident where Bundy abducted and killed a twelve year old child. • 6. Essay on The Global Positioning System The Global Positioning System The global positioning system (GPS) is a satellite based navigation system, consisting of a network of 24 orbiting satellites travelling on six different orbital paths. These satellites, referred to as NAVSTAR satellites, are constantly moving, making two complete orbits around earth per day. The first GPS satellite was launched in February, 1978. Satellites now weight approximately 1 tonne, and are about 5 metres across with extended solar panels. GPS needs at least 24 satellites to provide full coverage of every point on the earth, all the time. To calculate one position on the earth, at least 3 satellites are needed. Currently, there are 28 working ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The time difference then determines how far away the particular satellite is. Through trigonometry, with a minimum of three satellites, the GPS receiver is then able to determine a latitude/longitude position, and with a further satellite, also the altitude. Through constant updates of your position, a receiver can also provide accurate measures of speed and direction of travel. The accuracy of the GPS system used to be hindered principally by a source of position error called Selection Availability (SA), intentionally imposing inaccuracies of up to 100m on civilian GPS by the US Defense, the idea being that SA would prevent hostile terrorist organisations holding the maximum power of GPS. Some other factors affect accuracy the relative positions of each satellite in the sky, multi pathing (where the satellite reception is blocked/reflected by buildings, obstructions of the like) and propagation delay due to atmospheric effects. Some internal clock errors may also occur. In order to improve accuracy, one can implement correctional information and computing, as well as using more sophisticated radio reception techniques. A process known as Differential GPS (DGPS) employs a second receiver at a fixed location to compute corrections to the GPS satellite ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. The Wealth Of Nations By Adam Smith Essay In the Wealth of Nations, Adam Smith talks about international trade and subsequent government policies which became increasingly significant throughout modern history. Protectionism is the term for economic policies of restraining trade between countries when they want to protect their domestic industries from foreign competition. Trades nowadays have different forms and methods and involve more businessmen as well as consumers, which is why trade diplomats are looking to regional agreements. The US experienced two major economic declines during the 20th century, both of which had much to do with international trade. Smith mentioned tariffs in the 18th century, but the role and forms of protectionism have changed across time, so we should know whether the development of economy should actually be correlated with or decided by the political sector of the society and when protectionism will benefit or hurt economy. Main protectionist policies include tariffs, quotas, embargos and voluntary export restraints, and Adam Smith s idea of absolute advantage has been developed further to explain international trade. In recent years, protectionism has become closely related to globalization during which the influences of trades spread almost everywhere, so people insist upon the study of social deformities generated by improper policies on international trade and the task of pointing them out with a view to remedy. There are certainly both economic and political purposes of trade ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This being said, people can react to different types of conflict in different ways. Everybody has instincts, but the instincts vary from person to person. Fight or flight for instance is an instinct that every person experiences when conflict arises. However whether they fight or flight differs. If someone were suddenly jumped in a dark alley, one person might try to fight their way out while another may instinctively take off running in the other direction. • 10. The Resurrection Of Jesus The Christ INTRODUCTION The Resurrection of Jesus the Christ validates who Jesus was and is. Jesus has, or had not been resurrected everything about Him is annulled. Furthermore, it invalidates who we are as followers of Christ; the passage where this truth is emphasized more than any other is in John s writing of his account of the Gospel with the foretold and predictions of the righteous, unrighteous, and of Jesus own resurrection; John 5:24 29 . If one was to look in the Holman Christian Apologetic Study Bible (Holman 2003), they may see a note that is in reference and a prediction (or prophecy) of this passage of scripture that deals with Jesus (a person whom has already died an earthly death is in reference to Job) own resurrection, in which it is found in Job (19:23 27); the Scripture says, I wish that my words were written down, that they were recorded on a scroll or were inscribed in stone forever by an iron stylus and lead! But I know my living Redeemer, and He will stand on the dust at last. Even after my skin has been destroyed, yet I will see God in my flesh. I will see Him myself; my eyes will look at [Him], and not as a stranger. My heart longs within me. This critique and analyze the following passage of Scripture that will outline the One whom is it that John is talking about (in the Gospel of St. John; chapter 5 verses 24 thru 29); who is it that Jesus is talking, who shall be judged (is the righteous or the unrighteous); who is being addressed, and ... The Ethics of Boeing and Mr. Harry Stonecipher Essay Harry Stonecipher and the ethics of Boeing Should Harry Stonecipher have been fired for having a consensual affair with another executive at Boeing Aircraft? The answer is most decidedly yes. In many people s eyes this affair could have violated the company s code of conduct, and went against the reason Harry Stonecipher was hired. His actions showed flaws in his character that could have been damaging to the company had he been allowed to stay. The Boeing board of directors had no other choice than to tender Mr. Stonecipher s resignation. It was therefore his duty to live by the standards he enforced. If he was unable to do that, then he should have stepped down as CEO before this extra marital affair was brought to light. Hypocrisy is no way to lead a company. It will only cause dissension among peers and employees. Senior leaders of a company are the moral rocks that the company bases its values on. If a leader demonstrates strong moral values and a desire to do what is considered right by the majority of his employees his attitude will, after a time become infectious. The majority of his employees will begin to emulate his actions, and begin to modify their values to meet his. This would result in increased productivity and a more pleasant work environment. At the same time, if that same leader were to demonstrate questionable values and a do as I say not as I do attitude the same thing would occur. The majority of his employees would begin to lower their moral values and the overall productivity of the company would suffer. • 12. The Partition Of Indian Subcontinent The partition of Indian subcontinent into Pakistan and India in 1947 left unresolved the status of Kashmir, after 60 70 years it is clear that Pakistan must recognize that India has Kashmir and that the conflict has been settled over time, and most people are happy with that fact. There has been a continual use of force by the upset and unhappy people of Pakistan. The tension between India and Pakistan has continued for over six decades and at an enormous cost. This partition is one of the biggest reasons why the relationship between Pakistan and India has struggled throughout history. Throughout this paper I will address the main reasons why India ruling Kashmir is a positive thing for the Kashmiri people. Dating back to the partition of India in 1947, the disputes in Kashmir continue on in our present day. This conflict mainly involves India, Pakistan, and China over disputes in territory. This problem was spread throughout a range of states that were run by Maharaja s prevailing within the newly independent countries Pakistan and India (Insight on Conflict 2016). The people living in India before the 1947 partition had the choice of either joining India or Pakistan, the people were not entitled to remain independent (Kanwal 2014). People who have already spent time in prison or jail move back to some of America s poorest neighborhoods to terrorize neighbors who can ill afford the costs of crime. Essentially, prisons are effective because they lock up the people who are a threat to the society. According to the book entitled, Evaluation of Penal Measures, The range for success in rehabilitation cases range from 30 percent success to 60 percent success (Wilkins 82). This particular study was taken over a five year period and shows rehabilitation had a positive impact on many prisoners once released into society. Although the overall purpose of rehabilitation in prison has its positive aspects, the weaknesses of rehabilitation make prison time ineffective in protecting society. Rehabilitation may provide aide to some of the prisoners; however, there are still a large number of prisoners who are not affected by the rehabilitation and leave prison in the same state of mind as the day they were sentenced. Twenty five percent of all prisoners released commit an additional crime within five years of being released (Irwin). Prisons dramatically change the values and morals of a person. Polk then moves troops into a disputed zone between the Rio Grande and the Nueces Riverto. Polk uses this and gets Congress to sign off on a war and in the course of two years proceeds to defeat Mexico. It ends with the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, signed February 1848, which essentially was the submission of all land north of the Rio Grande to the U.S. The U.S. erased Mexico s debt to them, which was about 3 million dollars and proceeded to give Mexico 15 million dollars for the land now acquired. In need of money to fund an army to fight rebellions in Mexico, Santa Anna agrees to 45,000 square miles for 15 million dollars. While the U.S. was fighting in World War I, Mexicans were encouraged to migrate to help out with the labor shortage. Mexicans also fought in the American Civil War and the U.S. accepted migrants and refugees from Mexico during the Mexican Revolution (1910 1920). Wooden Fish Songs by Ruthanne Lum McCunn Essay Wooden Fish Songs by Ruthanne Lum McCunn Works Cited Not Included Wooden Fish Songs, a historical novel written by Ruthanne Lum McCunn, is written with three narrators. The main character in this story is Lue Gim Gong, a Chinese immigrant who gives up his country and family to pursue his passion for botany. Three women that knew him the best narrate Lue Gim Gong s story from three distinct cultures and three distinct points of view. They include his mother Sum Jui, his teacher Fanny Burlingame, and a friend that he makes named Sheba. Their contrasting perspectives are carefully interwoven from chapter to chapter. She sees Lue as her creation; others see him as her pet. In fact, he is more independent than she can accept. Rudely rejecting the possibility of a positive influence from his own family, she says how she made him as much of an improved variety of Chinaman as his salmonberry, cherry currant, and tomato were of plants (McCunn, 154). Though her closeness to him it allows her to be offended by others racism, as she regards him as someone special rather than a typical Chinaman. After Fanny s death, he was barred from the church they had regularly worshipped in, on account of his color. Sheba worked alongside Lue in the orange groves and probably understood him best. This is because Sheba s eyes were the least blinded by prejudice and ignorance. Common stock generally carries voting rights along with it, while preferred shares generally do not. Preferred shares act like a hybrid security, in between common stock and holding debt. Preferred stock can (depending on the issue) be converted to common stock and have access to accumulated dividends and multiple other rights. Preferred stock also has access to dividends and assets in the case of liquidation before common stock does. Second :Debt Debt can be purchased from a company in the form of a bond. A bond is a financial security that represents a promise by a company or government to repay a certain amount, with interest, to the bondholder. # Bonds and stocks are both securities, but the major difference between the two is that (capital) stockholders have an equity stake in the company (i.e., they are owners), whereas, bondholders have a creditor stake in the company (i.e., they are lenders). There is quite a lot of alliteration in digging e.g. curd cuts digging down and down and the squelch and slap of soggy peat this gives the poem life it makes it more interesting to read. • 26. The Effects Of Advertising On Society Essay The Effects of Advertising on Society Fr. Kavanaugh was on the mark when describing the effects of advertising on society. Our moral values are being degraded by the bombardment of impropriety by the media. Adler would be quick in pointing out the reason why these messages have such a negative effect on people. There are two main tactics advertisers use to sell their product: either imply that their product will bring about the achievement of a particular (usually real) good, or make their product the object of desire, therefore making it an apparent good to people. The problem with associating products with the achievement of a good lies more in the realm of truth than in good, because it lies in whether ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though these products are by no means needs, the associations make people believe that the advertised product embodies the good they need, and to achieve that good they must buy the product. Companies don t advertise perfumes, for example; they advertise relationships. They don t advertise clothing; they advertise independence. Slowly, as people hear these messages more and more, they start associating more importance to the product than to the good involved, like a sort of idol worship and here is where the real problems set in. Now that advertisers have people sold on the product, they can influence people s desires. This is what Fr. Kavanaugh saw when he said that advertising is damaging society s moral values. Calvin Klein, for example, has already become one of those companies whose product has become more important than the good they represent in other words, Calvin Klein products are now in and of themselves the good some people try to achieve. Thus, when their ads show immoral situations or actions (like the infamous child pornography ads that spurred many debates and a lawsuit against the company), people associate these immoral actions with the quot;good quot; Calvin Klein products, and people will slowly grow desensitized to them. Advertising, therefore, plays a notable role in the moral growth or stunting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

ABSTRACT: In this paper we want to discuss the focal point of a concave mirror by locating the centre of curvature. The focal point is a point in space at which light incident towards the mirror and travelling parallel to the principal axis will meet after reflection. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the diagram I have drawn I ve had to exaggerate the shape of the mirror a bit to be able to use it in some of the diagrams later on, but you should be able to get the basic idea. Like a regular circle, the distance from the centre to the surface of the mirror is the radius. Focus or Focal Point (F) If an object was infinitely far away from the mirror, the light from it would converge on this one point. In the diagrams we are doing we will mostly be looking at how some light rays pass through (or appear to pass through) this focal point. The focal point is exactly in between the mirror and the centre. Since the distance between the centre and the mirror is the radius, the distance from the focal point to the mirror is half of the radius. Principle Axis The blue line is the principle axis, a line that we will use as a reference point in our diagrams. It passes through the centre and is perpendicular to the surface of the mirror. (White, 1999) There are two main rules we need to use to figure out where the image of the object will appear. All of the rules involve what a ray will do when leaves the object. Rule #1: Any ray through the focal point will reflect parallel to the principle axis (Figure 2). Light reflects off objects at all sorts of angles, and if it will help us to find where an image is, we might as well assume one ray goes right through the focus. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A basic difference is the consequentialist would believe the end justifies the means. It may have sounded a little ridiculous at first, but for anyone who worked with Lucas knew that there were no impossibilities when it came to build one of the biggest franchises in the world. John Dykstra, a visual effect designer, was chosen to work as the head director in special effects by Lucas for the original trilogy described how he and his group were spending months to build models and robots from scratch to achieve the realism that Lucas wanted (theneweconomy, 1). He stated that, Back in the days of Star Wars, we kind of walked into an empty warehouse and sat on the floor and went How are we going to do this? Lucas and Dykstra were paying close attention to the details and motions of every creature and miniature in the film, especially how to make them look as life like as possible through the use of animation and motion control photography that, surprisingly, still looks fresh today. Female Role In Modern Philosophy The era of modern philosophy, with a special canalization period during the 18th and 19th centuries, was a time of flourishing activity in terms of philosophical importance. Whether we re speaking with relation to Cartesianism, the moral and political philosophy of Nietzsche, or another male during the period, their philosophical ideologies still remain present and of use in multiple presentations from bioethics to law. The Westward Spread of Inca and Egyptian Culture Essay The Westward Spread of Inca and Egyptian Culture The second half of the twentieth century has seen many changes in theories concerning the mode of colonization of the islands of Micronesia, and the rise of the Inca Empire, with it s striking similarities to Egypt. In the past, it has been suggested that Asians had worked their way through the Pacific, over a period of thousands of years. It was believed that each island group had formed independently, and that the residents, while they were of the same race, had totally different cultures. These reed boats were the same size and specification of the boats used by Egyptians, and the people who crewed them began, among other things, building pyramids and statues, many of which still stand throughout Central and South America (Ra 3). In fact, the most concrete piece of evidence linking the Egyptians and early Americans is a small stone statue, discovered in Mexico, bearing features that are decidedly similar to those of Egyptian sculpture. The statue was carbon dated 800 BC (Begley, et al 28), long before Europeans were said to have contacted Central and South Americans. The Aztecs and Mayas of Central America also provide evidence of Egyptian contact. The starting date of the Maya calendar is 12, 3113 BC. This is in the middle of the first dynasty of the Pharaohs. If these Indians had already been in the Western Hemisphere for 15,000 years, why was it only after the Egyptians started using calendars that they did, and used such similar methods. • 39. Thales was the First Recorded Philosopher from Miletus Thinkers within the realm of philosophy possessed a different train of thought that allowed them to make massive discoveries. Thales is regarded as the first recorded philosopher from Miletus. He believed reality was defined by water. Water rests on earth, reflects objects, and conforms to the shape of other objects. During what we call the ancient period, 600 300 BCE, communities lived by water supplies. Water is necessary to have the ability to obtain other means of survival. As opposed to referring to religion, Thales rejected the concept of Gods on Mount Olympus. The reality beyond mythology for Thales relied on the basis of water. Thales touched base with the concept of knowledge through observing and perceiving the way water functioned around him. Opposed to Thales, Anaximander perceived reality to be apeiron. Apeiron is defined as the indefinite. Anaximander believed the origin (arkhe) of reality to be divine and eternal while containing and guiding all within it. For him, water was too concrete of an object to be divine. In addition, remaining opposite elements triumphs water. Anaximander reasoned even if water were reality, it lacks in areas that makes it unable to be divine. Apeiron is an indefinite reality that is beyond the fixed matters on Earth. Anaximenes rejected this theory. In turn he contradicted that physics translated into objects surrounding us. • 40. The Ionic Frieze Of The Parthenon The ionic frieze of the Parthenon was considered by the Italian traveler and antiquarian Cyriac of Ancona as one of the noblest images of the Parthenon. The ionic frieze measures some 160 meters, or 524 feet, and is visible along the upper walls of the cella in addition to across the two porches. Cyriac was one of the first individuals to have sketched the figures on the frieze. The subject of the ionic frieze according to Cyriac was the victories of the Athenians . The Doric frieze of the Parthenon in the past presented 92 polychromatic carvings. The building upon which the frieze was built in the ionic style was Doric. The two styles of design do not mesh, and did not occur at simultaneous periods in history, making the presence of the ionic frieze something of a mystery. The general meaning of the frieze at large, comprised of many parts, has thereby been drawn into question. While the frieze in in superior condition than other elements of the Parthenon, such as the metopes, pediments, and akroteria, much of it has nonetheless been lost, leaving open room for interpretation. The lack of consensus over the meaning of the contents of the Parthenon is due in part to the height of the frieze. Travelers in the 2nd century A.D., centuries before Cyriac, had noted the pediments; however there was no discussion of the frieze. This may have been due to the fact that the frieze was too high. • 42. A Position Of Influence On The American Prison System Project Summary: The United States incarcerates approximately 2.3 million prisoners as of 2016, much greater than any other country. Though this large prison population exists, the crime rate is similar to other, similarly developed, countries. This problem can be, if not solved, significantly alleviated by implementing, as much as possible, the types of policy present in the German prison system, and others like it. This project would recommend solutions to those in a position of influence in the American prison system, a way to efficiently implement German, and other similar countries, prison policy and principles in a manner that is applicable to already existing American prisons. I estimate that I would need approximately three weeks to research further into this problem and its solutions, and to write the recommendation report proposed here. INTRODUCTION The United States is spending close to $80 billion a year on prisons and rehabilitation programs, a lot of which is going to waste as shown by the 50% recidivism rate. Basketball can be known as the best sport because it s played all over the world and tons of people like to play/watch it. For football tons of people love to play the sport and tons of people like to watch football every Sunday. In my opinion, I think baseball is clearly the best sport in the world. The great sport of baseball was invented in 1839 in a town called Cooperstown, New York. Many of you might know that this is now where the MLB hall of fame is located at and this is a great tourist destination. Once the sport was founded here it started to branch out all over the country and even some parts of the world. Now it s played in almost every single country in the entire world. It s crazy how a sport like baseball can be played all around the world and rapidly grow that fast. In all sports getting injured is always a possibility. In football and basketball ACL injuries are the most common injuries that a player can get. Also in football, there s now a growing concern over CTE problems which is concussions to the head. This is very scary for most players and now players are starting to retire for this reason. In the MLB, the only concern of injuries is really in their arm and a player can almost guarantee a return at some point. So, my point is that MLB doesn t have as many injuries as the other sports do so this attracts more players. Baseball is the easiest sport to just pick up ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If we look beyond the negative impressions that the Miller s behavior and appearance create in us, I am sure we can find at least some worthy attribute that will change our opinion of him. To our astonishment, Chaucer informs us that the Miller possesses a humorous and a poetic soul for he is a janglere (chatterer) and a goliardais (teller of obscene stories) (Norton, 562). These receptors still need extensive research since they are such a large, diverse group. More so, continued research can benefit humans when it comes to pharmaceuticals. GPCRs are key when it comes to cells converting external signals into the correct intracellular signals 1. There is more than 800 GPCRs within the human genome. With a wide range of ligands that can be used in the initial step we can see why so many things in our everyday experiences are controlled by GPCRs. There are hundreds of different GPCRs that control a range of functions within the body. An example of a GPCR is rhodopsin and protease activated receptors (PARs). Rhodopsin, a 7 transmembrane (7TM), activates the retinol molecule that is covalently linked in the TM cavity 1. Rhodopsin does this by changing the configuration to activate the receptor; it changes from cis to trans 1. PAR is a family of 4 GPCRs that activate important signaling pathways 7. PARs activate signaling pathways that deal with the following: survival, morphology, release of neurotransmitters, and activity of ion channels 7. GPCRs are essential in numerous processes through the body (i.e. immunological function and normal cell growth) 1.
