questions radically affect the way that we view how power should be used. In George Orwell s
Animal Farm, we see the animals come out from under Mr Jones power, they try to make the
perfect world but fail because someone is always going to have the strength or willpower to go one
step further than you can. In The Truman Show, directed by Peter Weir, we see Christof try to create
his idea of the perfect world so that at least one person, Truman Burbank, might be able to live a
good life. Both texts suggest that the good life is determined by the degree of freedom that they
have to choose their own destiny and this then affects what the perfect society looks like because
the perfect society would involve ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to live out what they
consider to be a good life. The problem with trying to create a perfect society is that there will
always be someone who uses their power to control others for the bad, not the good.
The capacity for an individual to live a good life is dependent upon the degree of freedom that they
have to choose their own destiny. In The Truman Show, Weir suggests that without freedom one
cannot be truly happy. Through Truman s life Christof stopped him from experiencing different
events throughout his life, he messed with Truman s emotions. In

Mirrormask Movie Analysis
Dave McKean is the mastermind of MirrorMask, MirrorMask is a fantasy/drama film that
released on September 30th, 2005. This movie was very different from a normal fairy tale, It
didn t have an evil stepmother, an absentee father and not really a prince charming at the end of
the film. This story is about a girl named Helena, she worked in a circus with her Mom and Dad
and they barely got by financially. Helena didn t want to work in the circus anymore; she wanted
to be normal like everybody else. Helena is also an incredible artist, her room was filled with
drawing which symbolize her emotional expression. When she falls asleep one day, she woke up
in a magical land that was filled with her drawings. After finding out they need to get the
mirrormask to save the kingdom, she embarks on an adventure to save the queen. Along the way,
she meets a guy, Valentine that accompanies alongside with her. Is it true love? This movie is
about growing up and realizing that even if you don t have much, you should still be grateful for
what you have. Helena was very ungrateful, she had two parents that were always there for her,
they didn t have a lot of money, but they had each other and Helena didn t seem to understand that.
Helena even got into a fight with her mother and wish death upon on herself, how mean it that?
Throughout the film in a way she matured and learned a lesson, in many tales you learn lessons at
