Advantages And Disadvantages Of Laser Additive Manufacturing
Introduction. The revolution that has led to additive manufacturing technologies for different
sectors has produced a paradigm shift. Medicine, aeronautics, automotive, fashion ... most fields
with manufacturing processes have incorporated innovations such as the printing of 3D materials
that contribute a high added value and have great potential for the future. Additive manufacturing
provides a number of advantages that outweigh the benefits of the traditional industry.
The direct manufacture of complex geometries allows to simplify the number of steps of
production or to eliminate the need for tools, which allows to be able to produce of an economic

Especially for large volume the production speed in additive manufacturing does not allow an

production chain of conventional manufacturing is part of the recent research, which concludes
hybrid processes. The additive manufacturing is a sequenced method the combined processes
should be repeatable in sequences as well. The most obvious combination is the additive
manufacturing process with a subtractive process liNe milling. Both technologies require a 5Yaxis
machine for a full three dimensional processing. Akula [10] integrated a machine for Gas Metal Arc

Vampires vs Werewolves

Creatures of the Night
There are two creatures or monsters that are known to lurk in the shadows; Vampires and
werewolves. Over centuries there has been a huge debate as to which one is superior. Vampires
and werewolves have always fought each other from the beginning as born enemies. Some say
the werewolves are superior because they are stronger and others say the vampires are superior
because they are smarter. It comes down to brawn versus brains. For me the answer is obvious; at
the end of it all it is the vampires who rule over everything that goes bump in the night.
Don t get me wrong I respect all monsters. While I do believe vampires have a total advantage over
werewolves there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also with the transformation comes a lot of pain and loss of memory. Most of the time they do not
remember what they did while being a Werewolf and they tend to cause a lot of collateral damage
and great death of causalities; Which is only if they even survive their first time turning into a true
werewolf.
Vampires, however, control their causalities very well which is one of many reasons why they
are superior. In fact, vampires have very strong handle of things when it comes to surviving; as
long as they maintain a healthy diet vampires have the world at their fingertips. Vampires even
possess the gift of seduction and mind control. They can basically tell any human what to do,
when to do it, and how they want them to do it. This ability makes humans easy prey and in turn
helps vampires maintain a healthy diet. Another one of their greatest advantages is they have
their full strength all the time. Vampires are known for their strength to tear humans apart or
crush anything that may get in their way. They don t require any special time of the month to use
their powers. Not only do vampires have their strength but like the werewolf, vampires also have
keen senses too; sight, smell, and hearing. Their senses do not reach as far as werewolves but
they do supersede humans, and that s really all they concern themselves with. Also vampires also
have speed like the werewolf and there is much debate as to which is

represented in our student body and with a focus on selecting the best students from a deliberately
diverse background. Imagine studying South Asian history with friends from Bangladesh,
Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan and India! You will be able to understand their points of view but also to
see how their views are shaped by the societies they live in.
2.Engage with complex ideas and insights. Teachers will challenge you to think better, more clearly
and more focused, while being interdisciplinary in their subjects. Learn how subjects are inter
related and think about issues from different points of view.
3.Learn how to ask questions. Asking the right questions is one of the best ways to develop an
understanding of the world around you. Teachers and students work together to ask the right
questions to be able to answer properly. Living on a residential campus means that you can
approach your teachers even after class.
4.Challenge your teachers in class and become engaged from the very beginning. One of the most
surprising things for students here is that you call your teachers by their first names. You are

Who Is Victor Frankenstein s Downfall
Approached with the task to create a ghost story on a rainy day by Lord Byron and her husband,
Mary Shelley ran with her original task as she later wrote Frankenstein, a gothic novel about the
Swiss scientist Victor Frankenstein and how his life spiralled out of control. Victor Frankenstein
grew up in an ideal household, filled with unconditional love from his parents and betrothed wife
Elizabeth, but Victor always seemed to want more. Reading the work of Cornelius Agrippa began
a crazed pursuit of knowledge in Victor, and through Victor s obsessive nature, his life was forever
changed. Entering the University of Ingolstadt after his mother s death, Victor s studies led him to a
gruesome project. Grave digging and body snatching enabled Victor to bring the wretched eight foot
monster into the world, and from that moment on, his life was forever cursed. Prometheus, the
Greek hero and son of Iapetus, lived a courageous life under the power of Zeus, and set the stage
for Mary Shelley to create her infamous character of Victor Frankenstein. As Victor created the
horrid eight foot creature, Prometheus stole the creation of fire from Zeus, and gave it to mankind
without Zeus approval, to improve their overall wellbeing. Through Victor Frankenstein s horrible
decisions and his inability to accept his own limits, Frankenstein, symbolizes that Victor
Frankenstein is The Modern Prometheus because both Victor and Prometheus brought new
creations into the world and received

Sonnet 95 Summary
In sonnet 95, the speaker depicts a paternal feeling while speaking to the addressee, where indeed
the poet reminds his audience about way appearance can be so deceiving. The young man is
relying on his good appearance to veil his sexual immorality. Being that he is handsome and
attractive, people are reluctant to disapprove his behavior. In the first quadrant, the poet employs
different stylistic devices, which include simile, as the young manis likened to a fragrant rose, and
on the other hand, he is compared to a destructive worm, but all his dark side of life is hidden under
his good looking and charming nature. What is important about this poem is the manner in which
the speakerreminds the young man about his bad behavior and draws examples that makes him feel
sorry about what he does behind his good looking nature. By the use of diction, imagery, diction,
images, metaphors and other figures of speech, such as tone of voice, allusions, syntax and
structure of the speech, the speaker warns the young man against his sexual immorality, and
reminds him that there are detrimental risks associated with his behavior if he does not change.
In the first quadrant, the speaker examines both sides of the young man s life where he looks at
the darker and better sides but most importantly demonstrating the way he misuses his good
looking ability to commit sexual crimes. However, the speaker does not condemn it openly but
appreciates his good look how sweet and lovely (1), but

Descriptive Essay On My Birthday
On my Birthday... Everyone around the world celebrates their birthdays in a different way, yet
many do not know much about the day they were born. As I began researching about all the
things that have happened on my birthdate and year, I found various interesting facts. Some were
not really intriguing, while others caught my attention. I have discovered many facts that
occurred on May 1. On May 1, 2001, my mom went for a checkup on my due date. They
monitered her and found out she was having contractions, but did not know it. The doctor asked
her if she wanted to have me that day and she said she would. She went home, got her things, her
best friend, some lunch to eat on the way, and went back to the hospital. She had me in about
two hours. I was born at 4:58 pm on a sunny Tuesday. They almost named me Victoria, but mom
did not want people to call me Vicky, so they settled on Sarah Elizabeth. My full name has very
neat meanings. Sarah means princess and Elizabeth means oath or fullness of God in Bible
meaning. Elkins comes from the name Elias in the Bible which means Jehovah is God . My family
came from England, for the most part. There were a handful of interesting events that happened on
May 1. On May 1, 1931, the Empire State Building officially opened. In 1963, an American topped
Mount Everest. The most interesting thing that I found happened on my actual birthday. There was
an ex member of the KKK convicted of the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing

Adversity In Night By Elie Wiesel
Have you ever experienced adversity in losing everything you once believed in? In the book Night,
Eliezer is a young Jewish boy who suffers through the hardships of religious discrimination in the
concentration camps during the holocaust. The theme I plan to talk about is Eliezer s loss of faith
throughout the war and his journey through the horrors of Auschwitz, Buna, Gleiwitz, and
Buchenwald. Religionis a stronghold for most people during times of struggle; the story begins
with Eliezer believing God was the most important thing in his life, to struggling with the thought
of God letting all the suffering happen in Germany. The life of Eliezer Wiesel revolved around
family, religion, and love. I believe his loss of faith impacted his identity, family, and morality
throughout the narrative. During the day I studied the Talmud, and at night I ran to the synagogue
to weep over the destruction of the Temple (Wiesel, 1) This quote showed how sincerely involved
he was religiously; weeping at the destruction of the Temple shows a clear emotional connection to
his faith. As the story progresses, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here He is He is hanging here on this gallows.... That night the soup tasted of corpses (Wiesel,
42). The death of the servant boy created a truth for him; that He was no longer present in Eliezer
s life. This causes realization that all Eliezer has is his father (who grows older and weaker each
day) and himself. That year he did not fast because he felt there was no longer a reason, and he
no longer accepted God s silence. (Wiesel, 46) Eliezer had directed all his frustration, anger, and
fear towards his God because their was no one else to blame for the suffering and pain. The story
continues with a selection taking place and the movement to another

Video Games And The Video Game
I ve been playing video games and watching various forms of animation for years. I started to play
video games on my Sega Genesis, like Sonic the Hedgehog and Phantasy Star. From then on, I
advanced in gaming platforms and experienced games from Nintendo since the Nintendo
Entertainment System (NES) and from Sony on the first PlayStation. I spent countless hours
playing video games. However, I also spent a fair amount of time watching animation. I d wake
up on Saturday mornings to watch shows like PokГ©mon and Dragon Ball. Additionally, there
was the occasional marathon of Disney VHS tapes. Through video games, I was able to explore
new realms through virtual reality. In role playing games (RPG s), I d be able to take on the role
of a protagonist that would save different worlds and trek across lands teeming with adventure and
evil to vanquish. Similarly, these experiences were also found in the characters of the cartoons I
watched. As a result, I became inspired to create my own characters and even illustrate the ones I
watched from those Saturday morning cartoons. At the time, my room was decorated with multiple
drawings and posters of cartoons characters along with 90s gaming posters that displayed
advertisements for the Nintendo64 console and Mortal Kombat games. It was there in that room,
where I was able to cross over to other worlds and experience journeys to distant lands. In a sense,
my room was the equivalent of Narnia s wardrobe. I was able to enjoy video

Emotional Connection Through Visual Disconnection In Jackie
Emotional Connection Through Visual Disconnection in Jackie Directed by Pablo Larrain with
Cinematographer, Stephane Fontaine, Jackie was a revolutionary film because it provided an
alternate perspective of a story that has been told countless times before: the John F. Kennedy
assassination. But rather than tell the story from the standpoint of the man who committed the
crime, or the man who was the victim of it, Jackie tells the story of the woman who was perhaps
the most affected by it, but whose voice is rarely the center of the discourse surrounding it. In doing
so, the filmprovides its audience with a raw and at times, painful, glimpse into the life of Jackie
Kennedy leading up to, and shortly after, the assassination of her husband. The deepest... Show

During these scenes, Jackie is outwardly angry and depressed and the audience sees her
processing her grief in a very overt visual manner. However, some of the most powerful
depictions of Jackie s feelings occur during scenes where Jackie is simply the first lady and her
husband is still alive. In these moments, we don t see grief but rather a different type of pain that
is so repressed that it could not be expressed through her actions, so the filmmakers use framing,
lighting, and other visual elements to convey her emotions. The scene when Jackie arrives in
Dallas displays Jackie Kennedy s feelings of detachment that she experienced during the moments
leading up to her husband s assassination. Within the scene, there are many moments where Jackie
is facing completely away from the camera and all that is in the shot is the back of her head. As

Regulating Drugs Market
Regulated Market for Illegal Drugs
Drugs are a medicine or substance that has physiological effect. They can be used as a
medication, or for recreational, and even spiritual and religious use. Some drugs can be a great
thing, like the ones used to treat simple pains like headaches to things like deadly diseases to
ease a person s pain or even cure the disease. Drugs that can have a detrimental effect on a person
s health or welfare are considered a controlled substance. This means that these drugs are regulated
by the state and federal governments. Meaning if a person caught with a controlled substance they
can be fined or and even put in jail. Not all controlled substances are illegal, some are prescribed to
the general public from pharmacies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By doing this the governments created the prohibition laws. Based on wikipedia the prohibition of
drugs through sumptuary legislation (laws that attempted to regulate consumption) and religious
laws (ethical and moral codes taught by religious traditions) is a common means of attempting to
prevent the recreational use of certain recreational drugs and other intoxicating substances.
Activities that governments looked at as undesirable were put into prohibition. Theses included
smoking, drinking, gambling, drugs, and prostitution. These prohibitions led to criminal
underworlds battling against police states, in which the public never benefited from. During the
prohibition of alcohol in the years of 1920 1933 even though the consumption and the sale of
alcohol was illegal it was still being made, but the quality of the liquor was not that good and
people ended up with methanol poisoning which led to blindness and even death. There was
also a story of how the U.S. government poisoned alcohols intended for industrial use killing an
estimate of 10,000 people. The global war on drugs endorsed by the United Nations is 55 years
old. Early anti narcotic laws emerged in the 19th century to control the trade in opium and later
more drugs that people used and abused as a medicine or for recreational use. Count the Cost is a

People, Power, Politics of Dred Scott vs. Sanford
People, Power, Politics of Dred Scott v. Sanford The American court system has effectively used
technicalities in cases they want a winning decision in since the conception of the United States of
America. No other example concerning slavery is better illustrates this than Dred Scott v. Sanford.
This case has become infamous not only because the decision, but because it was a major stepping
stone made in the progress of getting equal rights for negroes. Loopholes in the constitution
ultimately kept Scott a slave, but he made monumental progress in 1857 when he went to the
Supreme Court and attempted to sue for his own freedom. The Dred Scott V. Sanford case talks
about what came of his case and what he was suing for and the loophole used by the Federal court
system. During a time of uncertainty for the nation, at the helm of this uncertainty was the negro
man during the abolitionist movements and the exact rights they haven t been given until post the
civil war. Slavery had been the central issue of the civil war. During the abolitionist movement,
slavery was a revisited issue and now not only Negros opposed it, but many Northern white men as
well. The abolitionist movement had begun to transform northern public opinion: many citizens
now firmly opposed slaveries extensions to any of the territories North, or South. as stated by
Corey Robin (107), who introduces the Dred Scott v. Sanford case. Though the negroes gained

Race Religion And Representative Bureaucracy Literature...
The article Race, Religion, and Representative Bureaucracy (Grissom, Nicholson Crotty, Nicholson
Crotty, 2009) explores the relationship between the minority administrator and the perception and
reality of passive and active bureaucratic representation that benefits citizens of similar
demographic origins (Meier 1993b). Generally, the authors contend, actions of citizens and
bureaucrats both in pressures rendered and in the resulting actions that ensue, are largely influenced
by geographic region, yet very little focus has been placed on this relationship. They go on to focus
on reviewing existing literature to reveal that racesalience and racial group identification is higher in
the American South relative to other regions (Grissom, Nicholson Crotty, Nicholson Crotty, 2009,
p.3).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

George Orwell Politics
In theory, politics exist to balance the various needs of individuals and to moderate conflicts
between diverse interests. However, in reality there are no such ideal decision making system; all
governments have inefficiencies caused by manipulations, corruptions, and bureaucracies. George
Orwell, in , has depicted the non ideality of politics by sketching a highly controlled society in
various dimensions. In this essay, I will investigate how the Party maintains its power, in two
scopes; through its extensive manipulation and its inherent inequality combined with suboptimal
standards of living. First, let s observe how the regime manipulates its population. At the
macroscopic level, the Party has Hate Weeks, produces propagandas, and displays... Show more

Had the proletariat been equal with other classes, they would have thought and stood for
themselves, which would be a great threat to the Party. Also, outer party members were provided
with low quality goods and had a standard of living only marginally better than the proletariat, to
make small privileges of the inner party appear bigger and to induce loyalty. To realize it, the
Ministry of Plenty and the Ministry of Peace limit the supply of usable goods and exhaust any
surplus, to keep the standard of living low enough to maintain the Party s dictatorship. In
conclusion, the previous investigations shed light to how the Party holds its power; it eliminates
opposition by brainwashing and tight surveillance, and it stabilizes its power by maintaining a
perpetually superior socioeconomic status to its residents, especially the middle and the lower
classes. But still, there is an open question. As Winston said, we know how but we don t know
why . Why the Party craved power and control to such harsh extent? Although O Brien answered
that the object of power is power, pure power, it is not a meaningful answer because he himself is
also brainwashed as an inner party member. Then why such oppressive regimes originate even
though humans strive for peace and equality? It is a fundamental conflict of human nature between
power, violence and equality, peace; which should be solved to leap one step closer to the

The Importance Of Environmental Justice
In todays world, there are a fair share of groups with opposing viewpoints as well as mindsets,
which often leads to conflict. Certainly the forestry world has had its fare share of people in power
making decisions based on whats best for them finically or personally, and not what is best for the
community and/or forest. Deep ecology includes a large majority of the same concepts in which
they want to work towards the best interest of the forest and environment, and for the majority
focus on the fact that humans are interfering with the forest to much as it is, and it needs to be
changed (Naess, 264). Environmental justice focuses on how currently there is an elitist
membership and narrow scope in the current conventional environmental practices and tries to work
towards sustainability(Gottlieb 1993). When both of these collide they create what is knows as
Wicked Problems , they go beyond scientific, economic, and techno rational analysis and
methods of problem solving ( Nie 307). Hence is is difficult to know when said conflict has been
solved, We use the term wicked in a meaning akin to that of malignant (in contrast to benign ) or
vicious (like a circle) or tricky (like a leprechaun) or aggressive (like a lion, in contrast to the
docility of a lamb) (Rittel and Webber 1973: p. 160) Recently there has been an increase in the
amount of drivers in the modern environmental movement, some of which are resource scarcity,

Perceptions of Belonging in our society
We belong ... like fish in water. We re in our environment. This quote from the New York Times

community. Feliks Skrzynecki by Peter Skrzynecki, I m nobody! Who are you? by Emily Dickinson
and The Rabbits by John Marsden Shaun Tan show the concept of belonging as being contrasted
towards the New York Times quote, showing the alienation and non existent connection towards it.
These texts have furthered my understanding on the perceptions of belonging by recognising the
different concepts of connection to people, places and things.

Who are you? by Emily Dickinson shows the connection towards the society, the people and
herself. In the poem, the poet portrays herself as a Nobody and playfully asks the responder
Who are you? . Dickinson follows up by adding Are you nobody too?/Then there is a pair of us!
this helps Dickinson unite with the responder adding the sense of belonging to one another. In
the last stanza, the poet shows how oppressive the somebodies crowd can be Don t tell!/They d
advertise you know? This also shows the connection that Dickinson has with being a nobody, and
the ability to stand out from the crowd. How dreary to be somebody! shows how the poet loves to
be a nobody, and feels like she belongs. Dickinson frequently uses rhythmic dashes to interrupt the
flow, and engage the responder to pause to think and feel about the line. The poet also uses
juxtaposition in the line How public like a Frog These combining elements are not typically
considered together, and, thus, more powerfully conveying its meaning. The poem shows that
Dickinson is quite content with not connecting with the somebodies and that the poet enjoys being
an outsider to the rest of the world and feels like she belongs to her own little place.
In the picture book, The rabbits by John Marsden Shaun Tan it shows the perspective of belonging
as connecting to the indigenous Aboriginal land, people and culture. The allegory of the rabbits

In this paper, I address some major ethical issues associated with the ineffective use of Antibiotics
which contributes to Antimicrobial resistance (AMR), as Antimicrobial resistance is a direct
consequence of not considering several bioethical factors associated with proper use of antibiotics

Related Samples Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test showed no significant difference between plasma
percentages for Ice vest and control pre test results. Related Samples Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test
showed no significant difference between plasma percentages for ice vest and control post test
results (p 0.344). Discussion The significances from figures 1 5 would suggest that the Ice vests
caused no significant physiological changes (p 0.05). However these results are inconclusive as
the results are not representative of the male population with only 6 participants and no repeats
which makes it statistically unreliable and non representative. Although Figure 1 shows no
significant difference between control and ice vest it is apparent that there is a lower mean HR
for the ice vest testing in the first 8 minutes of the experiment. This can be explained by Figure 2
which shows the reduction in Ts for ice vest compared to the control during the first 5 minutes of
the experiment. This reduction in Ts causes a reduction in the need for blood flow to the skin
which directly causes an increase in available blood for central circulation (Marino, 2002). The
vasoconstriction as a result of the cold stimuli of the jacket would naturally increase the stroke
volume (SV) and consequently cause a reduction in HR (Marino, 2002). Increased muscle blood
flow could improve performance potentially. Figure 1 results showed that the ice vest tests
beginning and end HR difference was 69.33 bpm

Kottler s Statement Analysis
In view, Kottler s statement may be perceived in a positive perspective. According to Kottler
(2017), the lies that counselors may tell themselves are not terrible self deceptions but rather
strategies that allow us to work in a field (Kottler, 2017). Interestingly, a counselor would tend to
think that, in general, all individuals are good people, even if it may be at times self deceptive.
Counselors must have an open mindset to have the ability to counsel clients. Therefore, a therapist
will find and encourage genuineness in a therapeutic relationship, build rapport with their clients as
well as create therapeutic interventions that may produce positive outcomes. For example, a
counselor may assume a self fulfilling prophecy about a client

The Green Mile Death Quotes
The Green Mile is written about E Block, the place where prisoners who have been sentenced to
the death penalty go. This book shows many different situations where death is involved even if it
isn t necessarily the executions. Many of the deaths in the books can be related back to deaths and
how they affect people in real life. Deathhappens all the time, but throughout The Green Mile it is
clear that death is selfish, emotionally painful, and inevitable. All cases of murder are selfish. The
Green Mile makes an example of this from the very beginning when Arthur Flanders (The
President) was introduced. He had killed his father in order to get insurance money. Possibly the
biggest example of how murder is selfish is the Detterick twins and... Show more content on

The Green Mile shows this when Percy steps on Mr. Jingles in front of Delacroix. Paul had
noticed how calm Delacroix had been despite his execution being one day away. Just when it
seemed like Delacroix was most excited about Mr. Jingles, Percy took his chance and stepped on
Mr. Jingles while he was retrieving the wooden spool. This proved to the reader that Percy
couldn t care less about Del even if it was his last day. Right after this happened, Delacroix
screamed the mouses name repeatedly, clearly hurt by Percy s actions. Situations in real life that
cause emotional pain are hurricanes and earthquakes. Many people lose sentimental items, houses
and possessions, and even family and friends. Many people never recover mentally or physically
from these loses. This relates to Percy stepping on Mr. Jingles in many ways. Percy is similar to
the natural disaster because both are the reason for others pain and both are unable to feel sympathy
for those that are hurt. Delacroix is similar to the victims and their families because both are
distraught by events that are not within their control. Throughout the book and real life there are
many situations where death has brought pain to people

One Woman s Resistance, Viola Desmond s Challenge to Racial Segregation is a powerful story of
black women stood up to discrimination and racial equality. The exhibit is housed in the Canadian

Residential School and Uncertain Harvest exhibits.
Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on July 6, 1914 Viola Desmond was a successful black hair salon
owner, On November 8, 1946 while travelling for to Sydney for a business meeting, Viola
experienced car trouble; the repair of which would take a few hours. She decided to pass time by
seeing a film at the Roseland Theatre. At the ticket stand, Viola requested a seat on the main
floor but the ticket was for a balcony seat instead, When she tried to sit in the main floor she was
accosted by the employee to move and when refused, Viola was thrown into jail. In the exhibition
there was a video playing that discusses racial discrimination and how viola Desmond was treated
like she was not a real person. It suggests that her story has changed history, fearless in the face of
racism and injustice her story tries to break barriers between black people and white people.
There are images and video in the exhibit of viola Desmond sitting in the theatre and jail. Gender
and race are represented in the exhibit as she faces discrimination and is treated like she is not a

The present study investigates the cytogenetic changes that could be induced in cancer cells
after treatment with PDT. In this work, we evaluated the cytotoxic and genotoxic effects that
could be induced by 5 ALA/PDT on two different cancer cell lines; adenocarcinoma breast cancer
(MCF 7) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HepG2). When MCF 7 and HepG2 cell lines treated
with 5 ALA (0.5, 1, 1.5 and 2mM) alone for 4h then incubated for 24h, 5 ALA did not induce
cytotoxic effects on both cell lines. Also, laser irradiation alone did not induce a cytotoxic effect
on MCF 7 or HepG2 cells after exposure for 4min then incubation for 24h. These results are in
agreement with the observations of Chu et al. [21], who found that both 5 ALA and its... Show more

The effectiveness of 5 ALA/PDT to destroy acne lesions was evaluated by obstructing innate
immune response via the Toll like receptors (TLR), which overexpressed in human keratinocytes
with acne [26].
Micronucleus test is considered as one of the main cytogenetic parameters, which record partial or
whole chromosome breakage during mitosis [17]. Therefore, the efficacy of 5 ALA/PDT to induce
DNA damage, and release chromatin during mitosis, was detected by MN test. When MCF 7 and
HepG2 cell lines were treated with 5 ALA/PDT at 633nm, the ratio of micronuclei was increased
significantly in comparison to non treated groups. Some research studies demonstrated that not all
sensitizers have the ability to induce DNA damage or even cause cytotoxicity when applied with
laser irradiation, such studies include the observations of Zenzen and Zankl [23] who
demonstrated that h ALA/PDT did not induce significant chromosome aberrations or micronuclei
neither in tumor cell line RPMI 2650 nor fibroblast cell line WS1, however, it caused cytotoxicity
to RPMI 2650 tumor cell line. Also, the results of Horinouchi and Arimoto Kobayashi [27] found
that 5 ALA/PDT did not induce photogenotoxicity in keratinocyte NCTC2544 cells as evaluated by
MN test, but PpIX disodium salt induced genotoxicity after exposing the cells to 5 ALA/PDT with

I do recommend the yield of this study and the satisfaction that the employee had, but I do prefer to
include the marital status of the employees. Moreover, nurse manager needed to be more restricts
with those who did not follow the schedules. However, researchers should have asked those
freaking nurses about their impression in order to know the reasons. Reasons might be some thing
between them and the nurse manager which could be handled easily by third party.
Agreement OR disagreement
The study was implemented only in one unit that consists of high numbers of nurses. However, I
would have preferred to run this study in two different units in order to have precise result, and
compare the data from both units.
Self scheduling did not work for everyone and there were some nurses wanted to ruin it for every
one. I would have preferred that these observation or opinions were held with those nurses who
were not abeyance to the self scheduling study. There could be social problems, work problems or
even there might be no harmony between them and their manager.
Another point, I noted that the sick calls remained steady and did not change. In my opinion,
there should have been decreased sick calls but the study did not indicate clearly about the
reasons for sick calls. Thus couple things come in my mind, did sick calls come from the same staff
for the previous years? Did they have social problems or were seasonal sick

Differences Between Federalist And Democratic Republicans
Political philosophies amongst Federalist and Democratic Republicans have been much conflicted
throughout the years. The Federalist who was led by Alexander Hamilton were seeking to increase
the power of the central government then there was the Republicans who were led by Thomas
Jefferson whom were seeking to decrease the power of the central government. The Federalists
advocated the importance of a strong central government to protect the republic from the
imprudence of democracy leading the country forward, while the Democratic Republicans
promoted increasing the common man s role in government. Although both political parties had
good intentions for the future of the United States, the Federalist Party was much more effective at

About 20 to 30 years prior they won their independence from Britain but the feeling of failure still
stood amongst the people. The Federalist Party were at large to destroy the threat of failure by
fortifying the United States central government. In Hamilton s mind, the outcome in strengthening
the central government would allow freedom of speech and self freedom thus uniting American
citizens. Hamilton had witnessed firsthand the political and economic confusion caused by states
conflicting interests and corrupt taxation policies under the Articles of Confederation. He saw that
the Federalists must take control of the political and economic decision making for the Union to
still stand a chance to survive. In order for the Federalist government to take control of conflicts
before getting worse jeopardizing the United states future they adopted the philosophy of loose
construction which allowed a flexible interpretation of the United States Constitution that granted
the Federal government implied powers , powers that were not specifically granted to them by the
Constitution. Hamilton believed that allowing the Federal government such freedoms was
important to the well being of the country because this allowed the government to act in whatever
manner would best serve the country s interests, even if the actions stretched the limits of power set
in the Constitution or even at times violated. Even though the Democratic Republicans opposed,
Alexander Hamilton asked congress to charter the Bank of the United States which would be
jointly owned by private stock holders and the National government. The Bank stored excess
printed paper money that was valuable. This excess money allowed cash to circulate to prompt
American businesses by making loans to merchants, handling government funds, and issuing bills
of credit. The National Bank was largely beneficial to the American people, and yet it was

The Importance Of Social Disconnection And Alienation
Our society should be aware of social disconnection and alienation due to the increase of
technological advances. How do technological advances lead to disconnection and alienation?
People can feel disconnected from reality, from themselves, or from other people. They physically
alienate themselves willingly by withdrawing from a source that can be a cause of pain or
discomfort; such as bullying, disagreements, past relations, family or work issues.
Maria Furukawa states that Advancements, particularly in handheld devices, such as smartphones,
iPads, and smart watches, have made our lives more efficient by making everything we need
accessible at the tap of a screen or a swipe to the left. Essentially, technology has taken the hard
work of talking to someone in person, of physically reading a book and of using our minds to do
some mental math and replaced it with a device. I have noticed that technology, ironically,
disconnects us from living in the present moment. Even though we try our hardest to communicate
what we mean over text, there is still a possibility for miscommunication or misinterpretation of
what was written. If instead, a conversation was held in person, facial expressions, changes in tone,
and hand gestures are some ways that miscommunication can be avoided. (Furukawa 2017) People
can create a virtual world by using these devices with the increase of screen time and internet usage.
They are subjected to advertisements, unrealistic standards, online bullying and constant access to
negative information. In this virtual world, there are numerous sites for social networking. In this
case, people do not need to physically interact with one another and can espouse any persona to
their present need.
Dwight G. Dean, in his article, explains that The concept of Alienation is considered here as having
three major components: Powerlessness, Normlessness, and Social Isolation. (Dean 1961) Humans
by nature need interaction with other humans. It s a biological necessity. Hawkley states that As a
social species, humans rely on a safe, secure social surround to survive and thrive. Perceptions of
social isolation, or loneliness, increase vigilance for threat and heighten feelings of vulnerability

Steroids And Baseball The Ultimate Strike-Out Research Paper
Steroids and Baseball: The Ultimate Strike Out
For as long as sports have been around, countless numbers of athletes have been driven towards
being the best, and doing whatever it takes to become successful. As sports become more
competitive, many athletes strive to find a way to improve their strengths and abilities. One
possible solution to the problem, is with the help of performance enhancing drugs (PEDs), also

The Human Resource Management System
Recruitment and Selection constitute the main functions of the human resource management system
Recruitment and selection are two critical functions of human resource management. Taking into
consideration both the capacities the recruitment process goes before the selection capacity. These
functions form is basically the core fundamental that engulf the human resource management and
includes that of talent acquisition and training and development and even rewards for the
employees. For a human resource manager, it s an important aspect of their job description.
Recruitment is the first stage all the while which proceeds with selection and closures with the
placement of the applicant. But both the processes of recruitment and selection is vital playing an
important part to ensure the performance of the workers impact a positive outcome of the
organization that they are working for. It is regularly asserted that selection of workers happens
not simply to supplant leaving workers or add to a workforce, but instead expects to put set up
workers who can perform at an abnormal state and exhibit responsibility. (Ballantyne, 2009)
According to Edwin B Flippo (Flippo, 1994) recruitment is basically a process of the search of the
prospective candidate encouraging and direction them to apply for jobs in an organization. (Rao). It
is part of the staffing function as a management process. It may lead to an employer choosing the

Some other military s like the German military has no shaving regulation allowing their soldiers to
grow beards and moustaches as they please. This gives the German soldiers a more casual look
rather than a professional look. In my opinion soldiers should be allowed to grow out their beards
and moustaches as long and as thick as they want. The army is about discipline and control,
however like a teenage kid under his parents strict rules a soldier would want to break the rules in
order to feel freedom in their lives. By placing regulations on soldiers to constrict the soldiers
into doing what one person thinks is the most professional thing, helping a soldier be best
prepared to protect his country when in need? What about in a several day conflict against
enemy troops? Is a soldier undisciplined or unprofessional because he didn t shave while bullets
were flying over his head? Maybe not, but the army considers that soldier as undisciplined if that
soldier doesn t shave immediately after coming back from the field. In my eye s the army is
telling that soldier that they don t care if that soldiers friends died in that conflict, but the army
does care about how that soldier looks after the battle. I can see how having facial hair can make
some people look unprofessional

Poverty and Underdevelopment of India
Health education linkages inequality in distribution of stock of human capital means
underinvestment on the one hand and mal investment on the other, as total and per capita stocks of
human capital figures in women and backward castes indicate. Perhaps, the main reason lies in the
failure of human investment revolution in economic thought to really revolutionize common
thinking. individuals as well as state policy makers still perceive educationexpenditure as
consumption and as a burden on the state which reduces public savings. it is misleading to treat
public expenditures of backward castes and women as welfare but must be treated as capital
formation .
Poverty and underdevelopment of India does not permit adequate investment in general, including
education. From the private angle, weaker sections who should invest more in education have their
present consumption needs focusing on survival where education is perceived as luxury. Even if
people took loans, they prefer investment in more tangible and resale able assets which yield higher
ROR in short gestation periods to investment in human capital. The state is constrained by its
available resources and by its welfare expenditure approach to education. Further, the capital market
is too poorly organized to provide funds for investment in education. Thus to bring equity in
distribution of human capital between different groups serious efforts have to be made towards
reducing discrimination in schooling, improving

The Rise Of Poe By Edgar Allan Poe
The Rise of Poe
The words people use and how they use them holds so much power within themselves. It seems
that, people are always searching for the right words to express their true emotions towards a certain
subject. Artists and authors manage to make a living off of knowing how to use the right words to
reach through to their platform. Though within his time, Edgar Allan Poe did not have an
established platform and was seen as estranged; he still dabbled as an author and has made many
famous short stories and poems that we enjoy to this day. Poe uses tone, diction, imagery,
symbolism, elements of the supernatural, and allusions to illustrate his themes of sorrow, madness,
revenge, and uses these to project and give refuge to his inner ... Show more content on

Whenever the clocked chimed, the guests were filled with fear that they could be next, and
everything that is happening at that moment is temporary... such as their short lived happiness and
life span. No matter how much they try to ignore and escape what s happening outside the walls
of Prince Prospero s home, it still ends up getting them in the end. Much like Tuberculosis, where
there was no cure and death was inevitable. He showcases all the different stages of living to dying
while, Prince Prospero and the Red Death, go through the stages of acceptance backwards leading
to the manifestation of Poe s inner demons.
Certainly to even establish the tone one has to choose their diction. Edgar Allan Poe, as said
before, had a way of describing certain items and events. He did so in a way, that the reader is
physically there or even being told in depth from a person that s being conversed with. Many
times, the speaker within the story starts off with, Yet, mad am I not... (271) or even, but why
will you say that I am mad? (228) The speaker poses these rhetorical questions that make you
question their psychosis. The 3rd person point of view surely gives rise, to giving the readers the
task of analyzing and choosing whether to side with the speaker or not. Edgar Allan Poe, was not
so sane himself, either. Poe was known for being a drunk, a gambler, and certainly struggled with
so much to the depths that it reflected enough in his stories to

Third Person Research Paper
The third person is my younger brother Mikey. As kids we didn t always get along, our
arguments would turn into fist fights. Now we don t always see eye to eye but we try to
understand each other. Mikey has this bad habit of using loaded language (115) whether he was
upset or just joking around. He would make mean comments about me but always made sure
that Tifiny never got any of that. If someone tried to yell at her or say something bad about her
he would turn into the protective older brother. One thing that makes me jealous of my brother is
that he is so outgoing and friendly. He got that from my mom because I know for a fact that my
dad isn t like that. He has always been able to make friends easily. I envied his ability to do that. He

He still makes mean remarks but deep down I know that it s just how our relationship will always

The World Trade Center Memorial
World Trade Center Memorial The World Trade Center Memorial commemorates the September
11, 2001,attacks and the bombing that occurred at the World Trade Center in 1993. The memorial
can be found at the former location of the Twin Towers in New York. These fountains that rest in
the footprints of the towers are a powerful reminders of our nations history and all the lives that
were lost that day. This memorial is ultimately successful because it evokes emotion, whether that
be sadness or possibly a feeling of serenity or stillness. The memorial was commissioned by Lower

I don t care if Peter is described as this or that, he says. It s my design. The announcement of
Michael Arad s design winning the competition was the start of controversy for this memorial.
Daniel Libeskind was furious that he won because Arad s design completely destroyed the vision
he had for the space. I will fight this! he yelled during his first meeting about it with the LMDC. I
am the people s architect! Daniel want the slurry wall to be present in the memorial and have the
whole site set below the main street. Arad felt that this would disconnect the memorial from the life
of the city. His opinion won and the slurry wall can still be viewed below the memorial in the
museum. That was only the beginning of conflict between architects in this process of construction.
Many victims groups hated Arad s design as well. They hated the fact that fountains when
underground instead of rising into the sky. The feeling of absence made them uncomfortable. The
idea of absence is common in counter memorials. How can someone depict the incomprehensible
events with a comprehensive memorial? A primary solution to the problem has been the formalized
absence given by deconstructivism. I think the use of absences is what gives this memorial
strength. 9/11 was a major day in our nation s history, therefore it should have an immense
memorial. The reflecting pool mark the footprints of the north and south towers that fell. Each are

A Cultural Problem, an Economic Crisis
In the past two years, Western society has experienced what many of its leaders have called the
worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. At the very least, it has been the worst period of
instability that our younger generations have ever seen in their lifetimes. But unlike other
financial crises that have largely been triggered by external forces, such as the oil embargoes of
the 1970 s, this latest one was a product of our own internal policies and practices; even more so,
of our cultural outlooks on the very notion of finance, credit, and debt itself. Specifically, the
financial crisisthat has just come to pass was the result of the new culture of neo liberalism and the
hyper individuality and debt based consumption that it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This higher level shift in the modes of production in Western society has been one of the major
sources of the cultural shift that has led to our modern state of affairs. From Fordism to the post
war, entire families would form professional identities around the head of the household s employer.
With the shift in the modes and local of production that neo liberal globalization however, the
current generations cannot form such attachment or association. As Barry puts it, the new flexible
form of capitalism has transformed the work experience and as a result people can t identify
themselves with a particular labour or with a single employer .
So then, if someone of the current generation, by virtue of the neo liberal system into which they
have been born, cannot form a profession identity like their fathers or grandfathers had, what does
that leave? Smart points out that, without the confidence or security that employment held before
modern global neo liberalism, people have increasingly formed their identities around their time off
the clock. Personal and cultural identities have formed, indeed entire sub cultures of society have
formed around the activities that people choose to participate in when they are not working.
Consumption of the goods that are produced by overseas markets has thus become the new
economic culture of Western society, so

The Pros And Cons Of The Miranda Warning
A lot of police officers note that the Miranda Warning is crucial to not only citizen s, but to law
enforcement agents as well. They force police officers to gather other scientific, and forensic
evidence to support their case, rather than just the words from the suspect. A Chicago study found
that only four out of ten thousand cases have suppressed motions due to a problem with the
Miranda Warning. In fact, Lieutenant James Blanchette of the Hartford PoliceDepartment said the
majority of suspects waive their rights (Blanchette 2006). If this is the case, then it can be
argued that the Miranda Warning does not negatively affect cases at all. In the landmark case of,
Miranda v. Arizona, the Supreme Court ruled that suspects that are detained, cannot be
questioned by the police, until they are read their Miranda rights. Ernesto Miranda was charged
with kidnapping, robbery, and rape. He was interrogated for two hours, and then confessed to
his crimes. There was no lawyer present, and Miranda was mentally unstable. There was no
other evidence against Miranda besides his confession. He was sentenced to prison, but
immediately appealed to the Arizona Supreme Court. That didn t work, so he appealed to the
U.S Supreme Court, which accepted. The Supreme Court ruled that Miranda s confession cannot
be used because the police officers failed to read Mr. Miranda his rights. This case alone proved
the power of knowing your rights. And now the way law enforcement agents conduct their day to
day jobs is changed. If Miranda had his rights read out to him, and the cops respected those rights
the cops would ve had to get actual evidence against Miranda. This infringement of Miranda s rights
proves that no matter the case, everyone should know their rights when arrested.
There have also been cases on the state level that have ruled against the correct use of the
Miranda warning. In the case of Dickerson v. United States, Charles Dickerson admitted to
driving the getaway car in a series of different bank robberies. Dickerson was under arrest when he
confessed. When the case went to court he filed a motion to get his statement suppressed because
he claimed he was not read his Miranda Rights before he made his statement. The FBI

Strong Characterism In Ship Breaker By Paolo Bacigalupi
Killing isn t free. It takes something out of you every time you do it. You get their life; the get a
piece of your soul. It s always a trade. Sadhna, a prominent character in Ship Breaker, says.
Strong theme, harsh tone, powerful message, good dialog, strong character development, an overall
amazing story. Paolo Bacigalupi s sci fi post apocalyptic book Ship Breaker includes everything a
book would need to attract multiple audiences, and keep readers intrigued.
Ship Breaker by Paolo Bacigalupi is set in a post apocalyptic world where the ocean levels have
risen and oil is scarce. The story focuses on a boy named Nailer. Who is on a light crew. He gets

But the place where this takes place is very unique. Such a simple story arch, but with a twist of
death, savagery, and an apocalypse.
Bacigalupi creates strong character development with Nailer. He starts out the book with Nailer
being afraid of his father and is sceptical of killing and the subject of death. But once he sees
Blue Eyes get killed he realizes that killing is essential to survive in his world. In the beginning
of the story one of his light crew members, Sloth, doesn t help him out of a oil tanker. Nailer is
forced to do it himself, and is ready to die. But then he realizes that he must man up and get out of
the tanker. This is where Nailers determination, later in the story, comes from.
Whilst reading the story you will feel like it has gone by fast. This has to do with Bacigalupi s
writing. He writes in a very fast paced way, but when he needs to slow down and focus on
something he will. He also writes with a lot of figurative language which creates a picture of what
is happening in the reader s

Sigmund Freud And The Pychoanalytic Theory Of Development
Noted by Sigmund Freud (1894,1896) and further developed and elaborated on by Anna Freud
(1937), defense mechanisms operate at an unconscious level preventing an individual from
experiencing unpleasant feelings and making good things better for the individual. The defense
mechanisms or ego defense mechanism as it is sometimes called, stems from the psychoanalytic
theory of development. Founded by Sigmund Freud(1856 1939), the psychoanalytic theory of
development argues the notion that interactions among three components (the id, ego and
superego) of the mind result in human behaviour. The theory emphasizes the role of the
unconscious psychological conflict in shaping human behaviour and personality. It is believed that
these fundamental parts of the mind, through dynamic interactions progresses through five
psychosexual stages of development.
Prior to the development of the psychoanalytic theory of development, several factors occurred
which contributed to and influenced Freud in the development of the psychoanalytic theory of

Freud studied the cause of posttraumatic disorders and observed an increasing desire by the mind
of these individuals to replay this traumatic experience. After further examinations, Freud noted that
human cells had an instinctual energy which caused them to return to the state of nonexistence
which he later called the death drive (Thanatos). In 1936, Freud s youngest child Anna Freud
(1895 1982) elaborated on her father s ideas after his death. The defense mechanisms or ego
defense mechanisms though were referred throughout Freud s works, it was his daughter Anna who
elaborated on and expanded the list. The ego defense mechanisms according to Freud was primarily
considered to be repression which is the rejecton of thoughts, impulses or fantasies from conscious
awareness (W.Crain, 2014,

Marketing Mix And Telephone Operator O2
Introduction There is no single indicator of performance but a variety of different measures
which provide an insight into a telephone operator s economic, social, managerial and consumer
perspectives. These may relate to price, quality, user choice or efficiency. A good performance
in one service does not allow one to predict a favourable performance in other aspects and no
operator can claim to be perfect in all of these respects. In a highly competitive business
environment like the telecommunications industry, subscriber based service models are
something of a mandate In markets like these, business successes can be validated by a very low
churn rates. _Churn rate is a wide term and can be applied to a company s customer base,
revenue, employee turnover etc._ This is ideally a result of the deployment of successful business
models and a logical application of the marketing mix and telephone operator O2, in the recent

The Curse Of A Curse
Has it ever crossed your mind if you, your family or someone you know is being cursed based on
events happening in your or their life? While some people believe curses to be total bogus there
are actually many people out there who believe in being cursed. To be cursed means to invoke
by evil. A curse is the effective action of some power, distinguished solely by the quality of
adversity that it brings. It may also be said to result from a spell or prayer, imprecation or
execration, or other imposition by magic or witchcraft, asking that a god, natural force, or spirit
bring misfortune to someone. ( ). There are four different types of curses the first beginning
with Biblical curses, These curses are there for those who do not obey God s commandments.
The next type is Witchcraft curses, these are Curses placed on us by witches, any kind of
witchcraft for the solutions to any problems one may have. The third type is Spoken curses by
people who are not witches, people place these curses just by what they say or express about other
people and lastly, there are Self imposed curses. This type of curseis based on what you say about
yourself. If you say something negative about yourself, you are giving the devil permission to
send you a demon. (,). People can cast evil spells like a curse for similar reasons such as attempting
to get even with enemies or trying to get ahead in life. In the novel The Brief Wondrous Life of

The Role Of The Perfect Utopian Society In George Orwell s...
What makes a good life for individuals and what constitutes the perfect utopian society? These
are important questions for all humans living in the modern world and the answers to these
questions radically affect the way that we view how power should be used. In George Orwell s
Animal Farm, we see the animals come out from under Mr Jones power, they try to make the
perfect world but fail because someone is always going to have the strength or willpower to go one
step further than you can. In The Truman Show, directed by Peter Weir, we see Christof try to create
his idea of the perfect world so that at least one person, Truman Burbank, might be able to live a
good life. Both texts suggest that the good life is determined by the degree of freedom that they
have to choose their own destiny and this then affects what the perfect society looks like because
the perfect society would involve ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to live out what they
consider to be a good life. The problem with trying to create a perfect society is that there will
always be someone who uses their power to control others for the bad, not the good.
The capacity for an individual to live a good life is dependent upon the degree of freedom that they
have to choose their own destiny. In The Truman Show, Weir suggests that without freedom one
cannot be truly happy. Through Truman s life Christof stopped him from experiencing different
events throughout his life, he messed with Truman s emotions. In

Mirrormask Movie Analysis
Dave McKean is the mastermind of MirrorMask, MirrorMask is a fantasy/drama film that
released on September 30th, 2005. This movie was very different from a normal fairy tale, It
didn t have an evil stepmother, an absentee father and not really a prince charming at the end of
the film. This story is about a girl named Helena, she worked in a circus with her Mom and Dad
and they barely got by financially. Helena didn t want to work in the circus anymore; she wanted
to be normal like everybody else. Helena is also an incredible artist, her room was filled with
drawing which symbolize her emotional expression. When she falls asleep one day, she woke up
in a magical land that was filled with her drawings. After finding out they need to get the
mirrormask to save the kingdom, she embarks on an adventure to save the queen. Along the way,
she meets a guy, Valentine that accompanies alongside with her. Is it true love? This movie is
about growing up and realizing that even if you don t have much, you should still be grateful for
what you have. Helena was very ungrateful, she had two parents that were always there for her,
they didn t have a lot of money, but they had each other and Helena didn t seem to understand that.
Helena even got into a fight with her mother and wish death upon on herself, how mean it that?
Throughout the film in a way she matured and learned a lesson, in many tales you learn lessons at
the end. In Snow White, Snow White had to learn to stop opening the

  • 3. Vampires vs Werewolves Lauren Gallatin Pro.J.Kinder ENC1101 3/23/13 Creatures of the Night There are two creatures or monsters that are known to lurk in the shadows; Vampires and werewolves. Over centuries there has been a huge debate as to which one is superior. Vampires and werewolves have always fought each other from the beginning as born enemies. Some say the werewolves are superior because they are stronger and others say the vampires are superior because they are smarter. It comes down to brawn versus brains. For me the answer is obvious; at the end of it all it is the vampires who rule over everything that goes bump in the night. Don t get me wrong I respect all monsters. While I do believe vampires have a total advantage over werewolves there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also with the transformation comes a lot of pain and loss of memory. Most of the time they do not remember what they did while being a Werewolf and they tend to cause a lot of collateral damage and great death of causalities; Which is only if they even survive their first time turning into a true werewolf. Vampires, however, control their causalities very well which is one of many reasons why they are superior. In fact, vampires have very strong handle of things when it comes to surviving; as long as they maintain a healthy diet vampires have the world at their fingertips. Vampires even possess the gift of seduction and mind control. They can basically tell any human what to do, when to do it, and how they want them to do it. This ability makes humans easy prey and in turn helps vampires maintain a healthy diet. Another one of their greatest advantages is they have their full strength all the time. Vampires are known for their strength to tear humans apart or crush anything that may get in their way. They don t require any special time of the month to use their powers. Not only do vampires have their strength but like the werewolf, vampires also have keen senses too; sight, smell, and hearing. Their senses do not reach as far as werewolves but they do supersede humans, and that s really all they concern themselves with. Also vampires also have speed like the werewolf and there is much debate as to which is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Who Is Victor Frankenstein s Downfall Approached with the task to create a ghost story on a rainy day by Lord Byron and her husband, Mary Shelley ran with her original task as she later wrote Frankenstein, a gothic novel about the Swiss scientist Victor Frankenstein and how his life spiralled out of control. Victor Frankenstein grew up in an ideal household, filled with unconditional love from his parents and betrothed wife Elizabeth, but Victor always seemed to want more. Reading the work of Cornelius Agrippa began a crazed pursuit of knowledge in Victor, and through Victor s obsessive nature, his life was forever changed. Entering the University of Ingolstadt after his mother s death, Victor s studies led him to a gruesome project. Grave digging and body snatching enabled Victor to bring the wretched eight foot monster into the world, and from that moment on, his life was forever cursed. Prometheus, the Greek hero and son of Iapetus, lived a courageous life under the power of Zeus, and set the stage for Mary Shelley to create her infamous character of Victor Frankenstein. As Victor created the horrid eight foot creature, Prometheus stole the creation of fire from Zeus, and gave it to mankind without Zeus approval, to improve their overall wellbeing. Through Victor Frankenstein s horrible decisions and his inability to accept his own limits, Frankenstein, symbolizes that Victor Frankenstein is The Modern Prometheus because both Victor and Prometheus brought new creations into the world and received ... The young man is relying on his good appearance to veil his sexual immorality. Being that he is handsome and attractive, people are reluctant to disapprove his behavior. In the first quadrant, the poet employs different stylistic devices, which include simile, as the young manis likened to a fragrant rose, and on the other hand, he is compared to a destructive worm, but all his dark side of life is hidden under his good looking and charming nature. What is important about this poem is the manner in which the speakerreminds the young man about his bad behavior and draws examples that makes him feel sorry about what he does behind his good looking nature. By the use of diction, imagery, diction, images, metaphors and other figures of speech, such as tone of voice, allusions, syntax and structure of the speech, the speaker warns the young man against his sexual immorality, and reminds him that there are detrimental risks associated with his behavior if he does not change. • 9. Descriptive Essay On My Birthday On my Birthday... Everyone around the world celebrates their birthdays in a different way, yet many do not know much about the day they were born. As I began researching about all the things that have happened on my birthdate and year, I found various interesting facts. Some were not really intriguing, while others caught my attention. I have discovered many facts that occurred on May 1. On May 1, 2001, my mom went for a checkup on my due date. They monitered her and found out she was having contractions, but did not know it. The doctor asked her if she wanted to have me that day and she said she would. She went home, got her things, her best friend, some lunch to eat on the way, and went back to the hospital. She had me in about two hours. I was born at 4:58 pm on a sunny Tuesday. They almost named me Victoria, but mom did not want people to call me Vicky, so they settled on Sarah Elizabeth. My full name has very neat meanings. Sarah means princess and Elizabeth means oath or fullness of God in Bible meaning. Elkins comes from the name Elias in the Bible which means Jehovah is God . My family came from England, for the most part. There were a handful of interesting events that happened on May 1. On May 1, 1931, the Empire State Building officially opened. In 1963, an American topped Mount Everest. The most interesting thing that I found happened on my actual birthday. There was an ex member of the KKK convicted of the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Adversity In Night By Elie Wiesel Have you ever experienced adversity in losing everything you once believed in? In the book Night, Eliezer is a young Jewish boy who suffers through the hardships of religious discrimination in the concentration camps during the holocaust. The theme I plan to talk about is Eliezer s loss of faith throughout the war and his journey through the horrors of Auschwitz, Buna, Gleiwitz, and Buchenwald. Religionis a stronghold for most people during times of struggle; the story begins with Eliezer believing God was the most important thing in his life, to struggling with the thought of God letting all the suffering happen in Germany. The life of Eliezer Wiesel revolved around family, religion, and love. I believe his loss of faith impacted his identity, family, and morality throughout the narrative. During the day I studied the Talmud, and at night I ran to the synagogue to weep over the destruction of the Temple (Wiesel, 1) This quote showed how sincerely involved he was religiously; weeping at the destruction of the Temple shows a clear emotional connection to his faith. As the story progresses, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Here He is He is hanging here on this gallows.... That night the soup tasted of corpses (Wiesel, 42). The death of the servant boy created a truth for him; that He was no longer present in Eliezer s life. That year he did not fast because he felt there was no longer a reason, and he no longer accepted God s silence. (Wiesel, 46) Eliezer had directed all his frustration, anger, and fear towards his God because their was no one else to blame for the suffering and pain. • 11. Video Games And The Video Game I ve been playing video games and watching various forms of animation for years. I started to play video games on my Sega Genesis, like Sonic the Hedgehog and Phantasy Star. From then on, I advanced in gaming platforms and experienced games from Nintendo since the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and from Sony on the first PlayStation. I spent countless hours playing video games. However, I also spent a fair amount of time watching animation. I d wake up on Saturday mornings to watch shows like PokГ©mon and Dragon Ball. Additionally, there was the occasional marathon of Disney VHS tapes. Through video games, I was able to explore new realms through virtual reality. In role playing games (RPG s), I d be able to take on the role of a protagonist that would save different worlds and trek across lands teeming with adventure and evil to vanquish. Similarly, these experiences were also found in the characters of the cartoons I watched. As a result, I became inspired to create my own characters and even illustrate the ones I watched from those Saturday morning cartoons. At the time, my room was decorated with multiple drawings and posters of cartoons characters along with 90s gaming posters that displayed advertisements for the Nintendo64 console and Mortal Kombat games. It was there in that room, where I was able to cross over to other worlds and experience journeys to distant lands. In a sense, my room was the equivalent of Narnia s wardrobe. • 12. Emotional Connection Through Visual Disconnection In Jackie Emotional Connection Through Visual Disconnection in Jackie Directed by Pablo Larrain with Cinematographer, Stephane Fontaine, Jackie was a revolutionary film because it provided an alternate perspective of a story that has been told countless times before: the John F. Kennedy assassination. But rather than tell the story from the standpoint of the man who committed the crime, or the man who was the victim of it, Jackie tells the story of the woman who was perhaps the most affected by it, but whose voice is rarely the center of the discourse surrounding it. In doing so, the filmprovides its audience with a raw and at times, painful, glimpse into the life of Jackie Kennedy leading up to, and shortly after, the assassination of her husband. The deepest... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During these scenes, Jackie is outwardly angry and depressed and the audience sees her processing her grief in a very overt visual manner. However, some of the most powerful depictions of Jackie s feelings occur during scenes where Jackie is simply the first lady and her husband is still alive. In these moments, we don t see grief but rather a different type of pain that is so repressed that it could not be expressed through her actions, so the filmmakers use framing, lighting, and other visual elements to convey her emotions. The scene when Jackie arrives in Dallas displays Jackie Kennedy s feelings of detachment that she experienced during the moments leading up to her husband s assassination. Within the scene, there are many moments where Jackie is facing completely away from the camera and all that is in the shot is the back of her head. As you can see ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By doing this the governments created the prohibition laws. Based on wikipedia the prohibition of drugs through sumptuary legislation (laws that attempted to regulate consumption) and religious laws (ethical and moral codes taught by religious traditions) is a common means of attempting to prevent the recreational use of certain recreational drugs and other intoxicating substances. Activities that governments looked at as undesirable were put into prohibition. Theses included smoking, drinking, gambling, drugs, and prostitution. These prohibitions led to criminal underworlds battling against police states, in which the public never benefited from. During the prohibition of alcohol in the years of 1920 1933 even though the consumption and the sale of alcohol was illegal it was still being made, but the quality of the liquor was not that good and people ended up with methanol poisoning which led to blindness and even death. There was also a story of how the U.S. government poisoned alcohols intended for industrial use killing an estimate of 10,000 people. • 14. People, Power, Politics of Dred Scott vs. Sanford People, Power, Politics of Dred Scott v. Sanford The American court system has effectively used technicalities in cases they want a winning decision in since the conception of the United States of America. No other example concerning slavery is better illustrates this than Dred Scott v. Sanford. This case has become infamous not only because the decision, but because it was a major stepping stone made in the progress of getting equal rights for negroes. Loopholes in the constitution ultimately kept Scott a slave, but he made monumental progress in 1857 when he went to the Supreme Court and attempted to sue for his own freedom. The Dred Scott V. Sanford case talks about what came of his case and what he was suing for and the loophole used by the Federal court system. During a time of uncertainty for the nation, at the helm of this uncertainty was the negro man during the abolitionist movements and the exact rights they haven t been given until post the civil war. Slavery had been the central issue of the civil war. During the abolitionist movement, slavery was a revisited issue and now not only Negros opposed it, but many Northern white men as well. The abolitionist movement had begun to transform northern public opinion: many citizens now firmly opposed slaveries extensions to any of the territories North, or South. as stated by Corey Robin (107), who introduces the Dred Scott v. The article Race, Religion, and Representative Bureaucracy (Grissom, Nicholson Crotty, Nicholson Crotty, 2009) explores the relationship between the minority administrator and the perception and reality of passive and active bureaucratic representation that benefits citizens of similar demographic origins (Meier 1993b). Generally, the authors contend, actions of citizens and bureaucrats both in pressures rendered and in the resulting actions that ensue, are largely influenced by geographic region, yet very little focus has been placed on this relationship. They go on to focus on reviewing existing literature to reveal that racesalience and racial group identification is higher in the American South relative to other regions (Grissom, Nicholson Crotty, Nicholson Crotty, 2009, p.3).... However, in reality there are no such ideal decision making system; all governments have inefficiencies caused by manipulations, corruptions, and bureaucracies. George Orwell, in , has depicted the non ideality of politics by sketching a highly controlled society in various dimensions. In this essay, I will investigate how the Party maintains its power, in two scopes; through its extensive manipulation and its inherent inequality combined with suboptimal standards of living. First, let s observe how the regime manipulates its population. At the macroscopic level, the Party has Hate Weeks, produces propagandas, and displays... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Had the proletariat been equal with other classes, they would have thought and stood for themselves, which would be a great threat to the Party. Also, outer party members were provided with low quality goods and had a standard of living only marginally better than the proletariat, to make small privileges of the inner party appear bigger and to induce loyalty. To realize it, the Ministry of Plenty and the Ministry of Peace limit the supply of usable goods and exhaust any surplus, to keep the standard of living low enough to maintain the Party s dictatorship. In conclusion, the previous investigations shed light to how the Party holds its power; it eliminates opposition by brainwashing and tight surveillance, and it stabilizes its power by maintaining a perpetually superior socioeconomic status to its residents, especially the middle and the lower classes. But still, there is an open question. As Winston said, we know how but we don t know why . Why the Party craved power and control to such harsh extent? Although O Brien answered that the object of power is power, pure power, it is not a meaningful answer because he himself is also brainwashed as an inner party member. Then why such oppressive regimes originate even though humans strive for peace and equality? It is a fundamental conflict of human nature between power, violence and equality, peace; which should be solved to leap one step closer to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. The Importance Of Environmental Justice In todays world, there are a fair share of groups with opposing viewpoints as well as mindsets, which often leads to conflict. Certainly the forestry world has had its fare share of people in power making decisions based on whats best for them finically or personally, and not what is best for the community and/or forest. Deep ecology includes a large majority of the same concepts in which they want to work towards the best interest of the forest and environment, and for the majority focus on the fact that humans are interfering with the forest to much as it is, and it needs to be changed (Naess, 264). Environmental justice focuses on how currently there is an elitist membership and narrow scope in the current conventional environmental practices and tries to work towards sustainability(Gottlieb 1993). When both of these collide they create what is knows as Wicked Problems , they go beyond scientific, economic, and techno rational analysis and methods of problem solving ( Nie 307). Hence is is difficult to know when said conflict has been solved, We use the term wicked in a meaning akin to that of malignant (in contrast to benign ) or vicious (like a circle) or tricky (like a leprechaun) or aggressive (like a lion, in contrast to the docility of a lamb) (Rittel and Webber 1973: p. 160) Recently there has been an increase in the amount of drivers in the modern environmental movement, some of which are resource scarcity, rise of outdoor recreation, changing ... In the poem, the poet portrays herself as a Nobody and playfully asks the responder Who are you? . In the last stanza, the poet shows how oppressive the somebodies crowd can be Don t tell!/They d advertise you know? This also shows the connection that Dickinson has with being a nobody, and the ability to stand out from the crowd. How dreary to be somebody! shows how the poet loves to be a nobody, and feels like she belongs. Dickinson frequently uses rhythmic dashes to interrupt the flow, and engage the responder to pause to think and feel about the line. The poet also uses juxtaposition in the line How public like a Frog These combining elements are not typically considered together, and, thus, more powerfully conveying its meaning. The poem shows that Dickinson is quite content with not connecting with the somebodies and that the poet enjoys being an outsider to the rest of the world and feels like she belongs to her own little place. However these results are inconclusive as the results are not representative of the male population with only 6 participants and no repeats which makes it statistically unreliable and non representative. Although Figure 1 shows no significant difference between control and ice vest it is apparent that there is a lower mean HR for the ice vest testing in the first 8 minutes of the experiment. This can be explained by Figure 2 which shows the reduction in Ts for ice vest compared to the control during the first 5 minutes of the experiment. This reduction in Ts causes a reduction in the need for blood flow to the skin which directly causes an increase in available blood for central circulation (Marino, 2002). The vasoconstriction as a result of the cold stimuli of the jacket would naturally increase the stroke volume (SV) and consequently cause a reduction in HR (Marino, 2002). • 34. The Importance Of Social Disconnection And Alienation Our society should be aware of social disconnection and alienation due to the increase of technological advances. How do technological advances lead to disconnection and alienation? People can feel disconnected from reality, from themselves, or from other people. They physically alienate themselves willingly by withdrawing from a source that can be a cause of pain or discomfort; such as bullying, disagreements, past relations, family or work issues. Maria Furukawa states that Advancements, particularly in handheld devices, such as smartphones, iPads, and smart watches, have made our lives more efficient by making everything we need accessible at the tap of a screen or a swipe to the left. Essentially, technology has taken the hard work of talking to someone in person, of physically reading a book and of using our minds to do some mental math and replaced it with a device. I have noticed that technology, ironically, disconnects us from living in the present moment. Even though we try our hardest to communicate what we mean over text, there is still a possibility for miscommunication or misinterpretation of what was written. If instead, a conversation was held in person, facial expressions, changes in tone, and hand gestures are some ways that miscommunication can be avoided. (Furukawa 2017) People can create a virtual world by using these devices with the increase of screen time and internet usage. They are subjected to advertisements, unrealistic standards, online bullying and constant access to negative information. In this virtual world, there are numerous sites for social networking. In this case, people do not need to physically interact with one another and can espouse any persona to their present need. Dwight G. Dean, in his article, explains that The concept of Alienation is considered here as having three major components: Powerlessness, Normlessness, and Social Isolation. (Dean 1961) Humans by nature need interaction with other humans. It s a biological necessity. Hawkley states that As a social species, humans rely on a safe, secure social surround to survive and thrive. Steroids And Baseball The Ultimate Strike-Out Research Paper Steroids and Baseball: The Ultimate Strike Out For as long as sports have been around, countless numbers of athletes have been driven towards being the best, and doing whatever it takes to become successful. Poverty and Underdevelopment of India Health education linkages inequality in distribution of stock of human capital means underinvestment on the one hand and mal investment on the other, as total and per capita stocks of human capital figures in women and backward castes indicate. Perhaps, the main reason lies in the failure of human investment revolution in economic thought to really revolutionize common thinking. individuals as well as state policy makers still perceive educationexpenditure as consumption and as a burden on the state which reduces public savings. it is misleading to treat public expenditures of backward castes and women as welfare but must be treated as capital formation . Poverty and underdevelopment of India does not permit adequate investment in general, including education. From the private angle, weaker sections who should invest more in education have their present consumption needs focusing on survival where education is perceived as luxury. Even if people took loans, they prefer investment in more tangible and resale able assets which yield higher ROR in short gestation periods to investment in human capital. The state is constrained by its available resources and by its welfare expenditure approach to education. Further, the capital market is too poorly organized to provide funds for investment in education. At the very least, it has been the worst period of instability that our younger generations have ever seen in their lifetimes. But unlike other financial crises that have largely been triggered by external forces, such as the oil embargoes of the 1970 s, this latest one was a product of our own internal policies and practices; even more so, of our cultural outlooks on the very notion of finance, credit, and debt itself. • 48. The Pros And Cons Of The Miranda Warning A lot of police officers note that the Miranda Warning is crucial to not only citizen s, but to law enforcement agents as well. They force police officers to gather other scientific, and forensic evidence to support their case, rather than just the words from the suspect. A Chicago study found that only four out of ten thousand cases have suppressed motions due to a problem with the Miranda Warning. In fact, Lieutenant James Blanchette of the Hartford PoliceDepartment said the majority of suspects waive their rights (Blanchette 2006). If this is the case, then it can be argued that the Miranda Warning does not negatively affect cases at all. In the landmark case of, Miranda v. Arizona, the Supreme Court ruled that suspects that are detained, cannot be questioned by the police, until they are read their Miranda rights. Ernesto Miranda was charged with kidnapping, robbery, and rape. He was interrogated for two hours, and then confessed to his crimes. There was no lawyer present, and Miranda was mentally unstable. There was no other evidence against Miranda besides his confession. He was sentenced to prison, but immediately appealed to the Arizona Supreme Court. That didn t work, so he appealed to the U.S Supreme Court, which accepted. The Supreme Court ruled that Miranda s confession cannot be used because the police officers failed to read Mr. Miranda his rights. This case alone proved the power of knowing your rights. And now the way law enforcement agents conduct their day to day jobs is changed. If Miranda had his rights read out to him, and the cops respected those rights the cops would ve had to get actual evidence against Miranda. This infringement of Miranda s rights proves that no matter the case, everyone should know their rights when arrested. There have also been cases on the state level that have ruled against the correct use of the Miranda warning. In the case of Dickerson v. United States, Charles Dickerson admitted to driving the getaway car in a series of different bank robberies. Dickerson was under arrest when he confessed. When the case went to court he filed a motion to get his statement suppressed because he claimed he was not read his Miranda Rights before he made his statement. The FBI ... The defense mechanisms or ego defense mechanism as it is sometimes called, stems from the psychoanalytic theory of development. These are important questions for all humans living in the modern world and the answers to these questions radically affect the way that we view how power should be used. In George Orwell s Animal Farm, we see the animals come out from under Mr Jones power, they try to make the perfect world but fail because someone is always going to have the strength or willpower to go one step further than you can. In The Truman Show, directed by Peter Weir, we see Christof try to create his idea of the perfect world so that at least one person, Truman Burbank, might be able to live a good life. Both texts suggest that the good life is determined by the degree of freedom that they have to choose their own destiny and this then affects what the perfect society looks like because the perfect society would involve ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to live out what they consider to be a good life. The problem with trying to create a perfect society is that there will always be someone who uses their power to control others for the bad, not the good. The capacity for an individual to live a good life is dependent upon the degree of freedom that they have to choose their own destiny. In The Truman Show, Weir suggests that without freedom one cannot be truly happy. Through Truman s life Christof stopped him from experiencing different events throughout his life, he messed with Truman s emotions. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
