The Yellow Wallpaper Symbolism Essay
Commonly overlooked in its significance, the garden in The Yellow Wallpaper successfully represents
all elements of the main character s rebellious intentions. Generally, a garden features well trimmed
vegetation, which is guarded by a fence or wall to keep away outside forces, whether it be humans or
animals with intentions to harm the plants. In contrast, nature operates in a free flowing manner, with
its greenery tangled in abundance and lacking any type of structure. On the surface, it may seem that
the garden s kempt appearance is a blessing to the plants within, as they are saved from the
uncertainties of natural life by being incubated in a specific space. The main character of The Yellow
Wallpaper originally follows this notion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The word choice the main character employs to describe the plants is particularly notable, as it implies
a disobedient appearance in a garden that expects conformity in its essence. This oddly described
foliage becomes the inanimate representation of the main character herself, who is also trying to rebel
against a world passionate in its attempts to suppress and demean. The plants become riotous and
gnarly to actively resist attempts to be subordinated by the garden, and the main character s
observation of this conveys her desire to revolt, even though she cannot express her displeasure in a
communicable language. The main character s envy of the plants makes this symbol even more
powerful, as the greenery represents where she seeks to be: in a position where she can fight her
oppressors by being openly nonconformist. Unfortunately for the main character, her rebellious
behavior haves to be tucked away in the subconscious and in her own thoughts, as she is unable to
voice legitimate concerns in a patriarchal

Essay Of Mice And Men
Of Mice And Men is a classic novella written by author John Steinbeck, who is renowned for his
mastery of realistic and imaginative writings. He is most well known for his novelette, Of Mice And
Men, a story which follows George Milton and Lennie Small, two traveling laborers who work in
order to make money to purchase their own farm. George is characterized as smart and having a one
track mind, while Lennie is slow but friendly. This book is considered a classic by many, however, the
book sheds light on topics that deemed distasteful or abhorrent by many. Though Steinbeck is
protected by the First Amendment, his most noteworthy work, Of Mice And Men, should be barred

Comparing The Sisters In Julia Alvarez s In The Time Of...
Julia Alvarez s novel, In the Time of the Butterflies (1994) centers around the lives of the four Mirabal
Sisters who courageously brought acknowledgement to the inhumane and brutal actions of Dictator
Rafael Trujillo and the treatment of women in a society where they were seen as property. In the 2001
film adaptation directed by Mariano Barroso, the film mainly centers on Minerva Mirabal, the
outspoken and rebellious sister. Despite bearing some minor similarities, there are more differences
between Julia Alvarez s In the Time of the Butterflies and Mariano Barroso s film both author/director

The film fails to demonstrate each of the sister s perspective as they fight against Trujillo s regime and
their personal struggles as women in the Dominican Republic during the 1960s. While the novel
focuses on all the sisters lives as they fought for freedom and equal rights in the corrupt government,
the film focuses on Minerva s perspective as the first sister who decided to stand up against the
unfairness of Trujillo s rule. The focus on Minerva s perspective in the film, leads the viewer into
believing that the other sisters weren t as important as Minerva when trying to fight Trujillo, But then
again, here in that little room was the same Patria Mercedes, who wouldn t have hurt a butterfly,
shouting, Amen to the revolution. And so we were born in the spirit of the vengeful Lord, no longer
His lambs. (Chapter 8) The quote said by Patria in Chapter 8, shows how she risks her faith when
trying to protect the life of the innocent. She would rather throw down a vicious dictator than have
young innocent people killed. The film fails to demonstrate the strong themes of women and courage
expressed through the novel. The film chooses to skip over many important events, such as Patria
knocking over the statue of the Virgin Mary to save her

The Psychedelic Era
The Psychedelic Era started in the 1960 s and went all the way to 1975. This movement not only
influenced music and art but influenced a wide variety of things including pop culture, dress and
wardrobe, language, literature and philosophy. The Psychedelic Era was mostly influenced by the drug
culture, especially LSD, from the youth movements that were trying to create a society free from
discrimination. After WWII, launched the baby boom where nearly 76 million babies were born in
America between 1945 and 1957. In the 1960s the babies were young adults and started to question
materialism and conservative cultural and political norms (Psychedelic 60s). From this evolution
sparked the feminist movement and the Black movement. In America during the 60s and 70s faced a
lot of controversial issues that include the civil rights, the Vietnam War, sexual freedom, nuclear
proliferation, nonconformity and the environment of duge use which lead to many youths
experimenting with psychedelic drugs and Eastern Mysticism. This influenced the name psychedelic
which refers to drugs that were popular with the youth culture of the time and caused artwork to
express the feeling of tripping out (Psychedelic 60s). The artwork during this time was influenced by
Art Nouveau which included curvilinear shapes, illegible hand drawn type, and intense optical color
vibration inspired by the pop art movement (Psychedelic 60s). Pieces included abstracts swirls, intense
colors, and bending

The Rights Of Minority Rights
The founding fathers feared that setting up a democracy where the power is all in the hands of the
majority would allow the majority to take control over everyone else in the country. This would
directly cause a denial of rights of minorities. Thomas Jefferson said in his inaugural address, All, too,
will bear in mind this sacred principle, that though the will of the majority is in all cases to prevail,
that will to be rightful must be reasonable; that the minority possess their equal rights, which equal
law must protect, and to violate would be oppression (1). Although defying majority rule may anger
the people the government s most important duty is to protect minority rights rather than following
majority rule. The worst result that could occur would be to deny minority rights because of a lack of
government protection.
Although a democracy is focused on majority rule the rights of the minorities must not be ignored. A
principle of democracy is that everyone receives equal opportunities in order to fight to become the
majority. By protecting minority rights we are protecting the individual. Our government was set up
giving rights to every person so that everyone can have an equal opportunity. For example the right to
freedom of speech gives minority groups the opportunity to voice their complaints and cause a
positive change from the government. If minorities are not given the right to voice their opinion and
fight to become a majority they will never be on an equal

Bob Dylan Research Paper
One can be one of the most important aspect in someone s life. Without it, life would be empty. Bob
Dylan is one of the most influential singer songwriters of the 20th century whose career began in the
early 1960s after getting a rave review with songs that chronicled social issues like war and civil rights
in the New York Times. On October 13, 2016, Bob Dylan made history by being the first musician to
win the Nobel Prize for Literature. Dylan wrote the song They Times They Are A Changin when he
was 21. It was during the time of the civil rights movement, the generation gap, and the Vietnam War.
For today s anti war and global justice movements, Dylan s songs of the sixties offer both a bracing
protest against enduring enemies and a salutary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The poem style of the song is already very engaging, because he welcomes everyone who is willing to
help with the movement. Like in literary work, Dylan uses imagery to express what he feels, and for
readers to be able to identify what is going on, using strong and vivid language. For example in line
14, Don t speak too soon for the wheel s still in spin (Dylan 14), and line 26, It ll soon shake your
windows and rattle your walls (Dylan 26). Dylan uses these phrases to create a feeling of hope and
suspense for all that is to come. Also, Dylan shows real life connections in his lyrics by the use of
metaphors. For instance, Admit that the waters around you have grown, and accept it it that soon you
ll be drenched to the bone (Dylan 3). He starts off one of his hits by using the waters as a metaphor to
all the social changes that happened during the 1960s such as, the civil rights movement. In addition,
it is evident the use of repetition at the end of every verse when he says, for the times they are a
changin (Dylan), to transmit his message and to make it clear. By using literary elements like imagery,
metaphors and repetition in his lyrics, Dylan transforms an ordinary song lyrics into poetry, making it
worthy of the Nobel Prize for

Designing A New Computer System
Case Study 1
Three friends have asked me to configure a new computer for each one of them. The first one is a
gamer, and she needs a competitive gaming system. Another wants to purchase a computer for her
home office where she has a small travel agency company, and the third would like a notebook or
laptop computer that he can use for schoolwork. Each one of my friends has a $2000.00 budget to
create the perfect computer system for each of their needs. First, we will create the perfect gaming
system for my friend in need. With the gaming system we will be starting from scratch. First things

much difference between AMD s and Intel s in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two have been tested against one another, and honestly there is really not much different between
the two in game playing performances. However, the SSD has proven to be drastically faster than the
HD. I am going to go with the SSD with this gaming system because it loads faster, transitioning maps
throughout the game is significantly faster, and overall it means that your computer will boot at a
significantly faster. Overall one would have a better experience because it makes the overall
functionality of the computer better as a whole. The Samsung 840 EVO 240 GB would be a great one
to choose. It can be found for $129.99. It is a little on the pricey side, but it will be well worth it. Next
we need to configure a reliable computer system for my friend that has a small, at home travel agency.
With this system I would also recommend buying an already made system, and perhaps doing a few
upgrades. Dell has the OptiPlex 3020 Micro which is a descent system for an at home business. It
comes with an Intel Pentium G3240T Processor which is dual core with HD Graphics. This dual core
processor has plenty of horsepower to work with for a small business, so there is really no need in
upgrading this to a quad core processor. It will allow you to answer e mails while running Word,
Excel, and PowerPoint, along with the Web browser. It also comes with 4 gigabytes of RAM, and

The European Union Essay
Introduction
In the course of fifty years, the European Union has expanded from six countries united under
economic treaties to a large collective of twenty five sovereign nations. Maintaining the union within
such a large group has grown more difficult as numerous treaties have been drafted to control the
governance of the European Union. To reduce the number of treaties in the union, the convention
decided to draft a Constitution, which now moves through the process of ratification in each of the
sovereign nations. The Constitution works to set up a basis for the expansion of the Union and the
requirements that need to be met when a country seeks entry into the Union. But with the greater
controls the EU seeks to place on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The proposal limited the life span of the treaty to fifty years, meaning it would expire in 2002. The
treaty was the first significant step towards European integration going beyond intergovernmentalism,
establishing a supranational authority whose independent institutions had the power to bind its
constituent member States . From there, the countries decided to expand their connections with the
Treaty of Rome in 1957. This treaty created the European Atomic Energy Community and the
European Economic Community, both of which helped strengthen economic ties between the
countries. The member states strove to create a common market amongst themselves by removing
trade barriers1. This common market was created slowly with a lengthy transitional period, during
which tariff barriers would be removed and a common external customs tariff set up 2. It was at this
point that the High Authority transformed into the Commission, an executive authority within the
treaties. The Parliamentary Assembly, Court of Justice and Council of Ministers each then evolved by
1967. In 1992, the Treaty of Maastricht formally created the European Union through new forms of
collaboration in inter governmental affairs of defense and justice1. One of the original goals for the
European Union was to spread jurisdiction in countries to help combat international crime
organizations and terrorist movements. The expanded

Melting Point Analysis Of Acetaminophen
ABSTRACT:
The objective of this lab is to synthesize acetaminophen from p aminophenol. The techniques used to
do so, consist of: reflux with heat to allow reaction to occur at a reasonable time period, extraction and
filtration to isolate the desired product, and characterization of the product by analyzing IR spectras
and melting points. Acetaminophen considered synthesized, primarily due to the IR spectrum
exhibiting all the bond vibrations is the amide group. The percent yield of 124.6% imply that there
was a mechanical error that occurred, thus, also tampering with the progression of the chemical
reaction. The wide melting point range of 165 C 169 C denote the impurity of the acetaminophen
product.
INTRODUCTION
Chemical synthesis is an imperative technique most relevant to organic chemists. Synthesis employs a
succession of chemical reactions by using pre existing structures to make new and functional ones. A
combination of lab techniques could be developed in order to synthesize and attain the desired
product. This particular experiment calls for the use for reflux, extraction, recrystallization, infrared
spectroscopy, and melting point analysis. The overall objective of this lab is to utilize these steps to
synthesize acetaminophen from p aminophenol and characterize it .
To synthesize acetaminophen, calls for the following chemical reaction:
Equation 1
P aminophenol is the reactant and acetic anhydride is added

Analyzing Wallace s Theory Of Natural Selection
Wallace and his line
Charles Darwin has credit with the theory of natural selection in the history books, however there was
another person Alfred Russell Wallace who came to the same conclusion. He was of plebian descent
and had no reservations about going against the doctrines of the Church of England. He, like Darwin,
had similar questions about species variation, diversity, and fitness; he decided to seek out the answers
in his travels. Wallace s theory of evolution came from his experiences and observations in the
unexplored islands of the Malay Archipelago specifically Borneo, Bali, Lombok, and New Guinea and
Australia. Although Wallace s journey began in Singapore, Borneo became the stepladder to defining
his first law. He combines geology and natural history to hypothesize that species connect in space and
time to a closely allied predecessor. Further explaining that these connections are dendritic with extant
species outermost and with extinct closely allied species innermost. Whenever branching occurs, new
species form from the common branch or closely allied species. He simply argues that if the earth
chang es, why species wouldn t do the same. Wallace replies that islands, including Darwin s account

biogeography were active. Bali s fauna were of similar variety to the previous islands, and this wasn t

of Bali, has identical geologic and environmental conditions, however the species are completely
different. He considers why birds can t just fly across the sea. Traveling further east, his findings were
all species similar to Lombok and not Bali. He states that there is a boundary act ing between these

robes and Legal advice from one of Portia s cousins, Bellario.
Antonio has been allowed to visit Shylock from gaol to try and persuade him to be lenient. Shylock,
however, is having none of it as he is bent on having his revenge.
In court, Antonio casts a sorry figure, he makes it clear that there is no way that Shylock will change

Conclusion:
Within this experiment we could verify the passage of water from a region of high concentration
through a region of a lower concentration for when the potato was surrounded by a concentrated
environment (lower water potential) the potato lost mass, and when it was surrounded by a dilute
environment (higher water potential) it gained mass.
We could also estimate, with the graph, the concentration at which the potato neither loses nor gains
mass, that is when the water potential inside the potato is equal to the one outside. This equilibrium
occurs at 0,345M.(aprox.)

Aldosterone and Hormone Replacement Therapy and Renal...
Aldosterone and Hormone Replacement Therapy
Aldosterone falls in the class of hormone called mineralocorticoids, produces by the adrenal glands
and is found near the kidneys. It sustains blood pressure, water and salt balance within the body. This
procedure is assisting the kidneys to preserve sodium and excrete potassium in order to maintain a
balance. If Aldosterone production falls, there isn t enough regulation of salt and water balance (as
aldosterone is being lost through urination) triggering blood pressure and blood volume to decline as a
result of the kidneys not functioning properly. If body is in need of salt, water is not retained and
adrenals release more Aldosterone and salt is reabsorbed from the tubule.

In having the hormone replacement therapy, there are long term and short term benefits. In the long
term estrogen levels will be higher than average reducing vaginal dryness and urethritis. Preventions
of fractures, heart disease, colon cancer, or dementia and most commonly reduce breast and uterine
cancer.
The prognosis for people with Addison s disease can be uncertain. If untreated, it will be fatal, if
diagnosed it requires a lifelong treatment. In some cases there is an increased chance of a premature
death . In most cases, with hormone replacement therapy, most people with Addison s disease are able
to live normal lives.

North Kore A Threat Of World Security Essay
North Korea is a nation where their once family and ally, South Korea, has become their biggest
enemyies. North Korea has taken extensive measures to make sure they are included in some of the
most powerful nations of the modern century. They have done this using the power of nuclear
weapons and other weapons of mass destruction. They have been claimed as a physical and no longer
theoretical threat to its surrounding nations. North Korea has become a threat of world security and,
we should raise arms against North Korea and make them join the NATO in their quest for world
peace and a civilized world, To raise arms against North Korea we would cut off their supplies which
would end the war very quickly and with very little cost., The result of North Korea surrendering
would show the power of the NATO., After the war against North Korea, China would take over the
small country and would use it as a NATO military outpost. (what is supposed to happen in theory).
Leadership in North Korea
The three dictatorial leaders of North Korea have been Kim II Sung, Kim Jong Iil, and Kim Jong un.
Kim Jong il was the leader during WWII and the kKorean war. He died in 2011, which gave his son
Kim Jong un direct leadership to the throne. Kim Jong un has made life in North Korea easier for all
of his citizens by providing jobs for those who need them most. He has started to gradually give North
Koreans more and more resources to improve their life. Kim Jong un is much better than his father

Homelessness Is The Main Driving Force Behind The Rise Of...
Homelessness affects an estimated 650,000 Americans in the United States daily and the number of
people experiencing homelessness is continuing to rise across the United States and more specifically
in Massachusetts. According to the 2014 Annual Homelessness Assessment, between 2013 2014
Massachusetts saw the fourth largest increase in homelessness in the United States and on any given
night an estimated 3000 individual shelter beds are occupied ( Basic Facts on, 2016). Furthermore,
homelessness magnifies poor health, exposes those in crowded shelters to communicable diseases,
complicates management of chronic illnesses and uncovers deep fault lines in our healthcare system
(O Connell et al., 2010). Lack of access to affordable housing is the main driving force behind the rise
in homelessness, followed closely by poverty, mental health disabilities, and substance abuse
disorders. These individuals need: services that address their tangible needs for housing, income and
employment; access to flexible, low demand interventions; and long term continuous treatment and
support (Wells, 2003). Low threshold housing programs and the Boston Healthcare for the Homeless
Program (BHCHP) service model are two promising methods of improving the present situation for
the homeless.
Low threshold housing programs are geared toward the chronically homeless population whereas the
BHCHP service model is geared toward the general homeless population. According to the federal

Detecting intertextual relationships between The Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare and 10
Things I Hate About You directed by Gil Junger has enriched my understanding of feminism in the
American society. The Taming of The Shrew, written in 1593, challenges cultural expectations of
women s rights at that time. 10 Things I Hate About You however, was produced to fit the context of
1990 s America. A period when a great deal of anxiety was focused on adolescent girls, following
publication of reports which found that the education of adolescent girls was marginalized.
In the 16th century, it may have been a historical fact that Eve was created from Adam s rib, thus the
socially accepted system of patriarchy. The Taming of The Shrew promotes typical 16th century
attitudes towards matrimony and relations between fathers and daughters. Baptista, Katherine s father,
treats marriage as a transaction, where his daughters are the commodities to be exchanged.
Faith gentlemen, now I play a merchant s part and venture

Bay Leaves And Cinnamon Stick Life Is Summary
Bay Leaves and Cinnamon Sticks: Life is Some stories have a very good way of persuading a person
to see life in a different way. Thelma B. Thompson gave a wonderful meaning in her book Bay Leaves

figure out what the right thing to do throughout the whole novel. She sees the wrong and does not
proceed with the wrong full things. As she states when Jude told her he was in that selling drugs

Different Types Of Valuation Methods
Within the financial sector, there are many different types of valuation methods in which their purpose
is to receive the share price of a company. Throughout this paper, I will discuss the various methods
and the factors that contribute to the outcomes of each one. The context of this paper will be discussed
in the manners of both the positive and negative aspects of each method. With each method, I will also
explain the factors that significantly influence the price of each method used. Currently, Cenovus is
trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange at a value of $17.83. One of the key aspects that I will
acknowledge is that they currently have a long term growth value of 108% and their target price is
$18.55. Other factors can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is one of the most significant downfalls of this method, because you can greatly misprice the
value of the firm without considering the cash flows as well as other variables. Another common
valuation method that one may use is the EV/EBITDA ratio method. This specific method takes into
consideration the value of EBITDA as well as the value of net debt (market value of debt).
Another important consideration that investors must be aware of is the type of depreciation method
that Cenovus uses. Since Cenovus is a large asset company, this is a vital aspect to consider when
using the book value method. If Cenovus depreciates their assets at a faster pace, this will allow
investors to part take in a valuable investment and would cause for a positive pick for their portfolio.
However, if the company depreciates their asset in a slower manner, this could create a higher book
price than what the stock is currently trading at. This may misrepresent the value of the firm to the
investor. Investors should be cautious when considering this type of method for valuing companies.
Therefore, investors should do thorough research in what type of depreciation method Cenovus uses.
The methods include a straight line depreciation or a double declining method. Both have a significant
impact on the share price of the firm when using the book value approach.
One common method within the industry

Evaluation Of A Nurse For My Clinical Essay
This week, I had the opportunity to be in the OR department for my clinical. I spent a whole day
observing the operation processes and the procedure itself, at the same time, I was able to get the
patient to the post operative care before they are discharged or sent to another floor for further
observation. I had an opportunity to observe four procedures. When I first arrived I was fortunate
enough to meet with a nurse who let me in the OR, who happened to be the preoperative nurse that I
will work with. After changing, we got a list of 2 patients. The first thing the nurse did was to explain
to me that we had to look for basic information such as allergies, lab results, present history and
physical for the patient. If there is no previous history within the last month or weeks, then we need to
remind the doctor to write a new one. Once we met with the patients, we started by taking vital signs,
asking their identity, and ask them to explain why they are there and what procedure they are there for.
I remember my nurse asking the patients about whether or not they are in the menopausal stages or if
there is a chance of them being pregnant. At the same time, my nurse gave antibacterial wipes for the
patients to wipe themselves in specific areas and change into the hospital gowns. My nurse then
started the IV with fluid and antibiotics while we discuss the medical history of the patient from the
previous procedure to active diagnosis, to medication that they are taking and

Case Study Cunard Line, Ltd.
Problem
Cunard is facing a problem as to whether their marketing efforts should go towards tactical
promotions or if they should be applied to marketing the overall brand while facing the effects of a
recession.
Analysis
Overview
Cunard Line Ltd. is a cruise line that represents luxury and class providing four to five star cruise ship
options. Their overall target market is mature adults with mid to very high income levels. A lot of the
marketing efforts put forth by Cunard were going towards tactical efforts and the promotion of
individual ships as opposed to the promotion of the entire brand. Although most of the ads portrayed

This method can be used for customers of the four or five star ships. This loyalty program would
provide occasional direct offers to customers who already have experience with Cunard and therefore
will not view the deals as a lowering of standards. An example of a deal that can be provided is a
selling package that is good for a year or two. This package would outline a discounted price for a set
amount of people to travel on a certain cruise ship. That way, there is enough time for a customer to
realistically plan out a trip while providing an incentive for them and encourage more action as
opposed to a regular priced ad.
Lastly, an alternative that can be taken is to build relationships with various large companies with
employees who make an income in the target range and make offers to company executives. This
method would not downplay the company image because Cunard would be communicating directly
with high income executives and furthermore will not be making any public sales or advertisements.
This method would create new potential customers who are directly in the target market of choice
using the method of relationship building. This may also result in additional customer retention. This
method can be used for both the four and five star ships. In order to attract the target market of the five
star ships, Cunard can make an arrangement with a company to offer a deal with their luxury ships as
part of a retirement plan.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Acids And Bases
Task 1:
a) Acids and bases play a large and important role in our body through various biological processes.
After a human being consumes food, the food gets transported to the stomach where the border cells
located there start producing Hydrochloric Acid (HCl) which is an acid that aids in the digestion of the
food. In order to buffer or neutralize this highly acidic chemical, those same border cells also secrete a
base called Sodium Bicarbonate (NaHCO3) at the same time thanks to their dual function.
NaCl + CO2 + H2O NaHCO3 + HCl
In addition, during intensive exercise, the muscles will have less oxygen provided to them. This will
therefore encourage the muscle cells an acid called Lactic Acid as a way to provide fuel for the

person if they are applied on the skin, inhaled or consumed causing damages such as severe burns,

workers about safety and the dangers of mishandling the chemicals, and supplying the workers with
proper personal protective equipment or PPE including protective clothing and goggles. Another
disadvantage of chemicals and bases in industry is the resulting environment pollution. Many
industries pollute the environment either by an unintentional leakage or by mishandling and disposal
of chemical waste in soils and lakes therefore endangering the lives of different organisms exposed to
this toxic waste. This damage can be prevented by conducting routine maintenance to prevent such
leakages and the industries have to be ethical and dispose of the toxic waste in the proper disposal
facilities that limit the amount of pollutants to reach the

Analysis Of Walt Disney s Snow White, Dumbo
Walt Disney, animator, cartoonist, and entrepreneur, was a man of incredible vision and passion. He
fundamentally transformed the entertainment industry in America. Prior to Walt Disney Studios, the
art of animation was simply a moving comic strip, void of sound or color and generally constrained to
short vignettes featuring friendly characters like cats. Disney was the first to innovate a system of
animation on a large scale, capable of producing feature length films. Snow White, Dumbo, Pinocchio
these productions revolutionized the film industry in a way never seen previously. Walt Disney
continues to be a cultural phenomenon, a household name spoken to this day by children across the
world.
This romanticized image of Walt Disney conveniently forgets one of the darkest moments in the
famous visionary s past. The day was May 29th, 1941. Over three hundred Disney Studios employees
walked out of their jobs and began to form picket lines surrounding the company buildings. The
strikers held high colorful signs featuring famous Disney cartoon characters like Mickey Mouse and
Donald Duck one poster displayed a picture of Pluto the Dog, reading I d rather be a dog than a scab!
The workers marched on strike against Walt Disney Studios. The outrage of Disney s employees
clearly demonstrated their unhappiness with the way the company s workers were being treated.

Effects Of Wetlands On The Environment Essay
WETLANDS
wetlands are defined as transitional land between terrestrial and aquatic systems where the water table
is usually at or near the surface or the land is covered by shallow water. (Cowardin et
al.,1979).Wetlands are one of the most productive life support systems in the world characterized with
waterlogged soils and recognized for their unique role in regulating global biogeochemical cycles
(Reddy and DeLaune, 2008). In the context of global biogeochemical budgets, it is the carbon (C)
cycle that wetlands influence the most. carbon density of wetlands are higher among all other
ecosystems due to its high productivity and slow decomposition rates, (Kayranli et al., 2010 ).
Recent works by the Ramsar Convention s Scientific and Technical Review Panel (STRP), states that
there are evidences showing importance and under estimated role of wetlands in both carbon storage
and the regulation of greenhouse gas emissions to the atmosphere.(2) significant amount of carbon
dioxide is emitted through degradation of wetlands .
Wetlands play an important role in regulating exchanges of greenhouse gases (water vapour, carbon
dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and sulfur dioxide) to and from the atmosphere . They depending on
temporal ,spatial and typical features ,wetlands tend to be sinks for carbon and nitrogen and sources
for methane and sulphur compounds..3 (figre 1) fig 1

Morley Callaghan Symbols
Books are the foundation of diverse characters and themes, though are often overlooked; a reader
finds intrigue by the story rather than the meaning written between the lines of the written text. The
author works feverishly to bring these ideas forward through the variety of literary devices, however
the hard work put into the novel does not necessarily achieve recognition. The Loved and the Lost by
Morley Callaghan contains effective use of literary devices to develop the characters morals, and their
position in society concerning social status and societal isolation. The techniques that author skillfully
uses include flashback, dialogue and symbolism. Flashback works to characterize and shape each
character, while dialogue creates interactions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Callaghan excels in using symbolism with his knowledge on both society and the understanding of
what the images represent. Symbols work to break down a character and present their opinions on
society to gain a better understanding of what the individual believes in. Peggy Sanderson is an
advocate for change in the treatment of black culture and is constantly showing her respect for the
group that others oppress. A symbol that best describes Peggy s opinion is the river, which flows
around the city of Montreal. It was those who wanted a change who preferred the broad flowing river
(Callaghan 1), perfectly describing Peggy through the use of symbolism in nature. Peggy wants to see
change in the world and her strive for change is like a river that is constantly flowing. Water in a river
never stops and fresh water replaces it as it flows. Peggy never stops respecting the African American
culture and will always speak her mind on the subject, despite what others believe. Similar to the river,
the mountain is also an important piece of symbolism in the text. Symbolism creates a representation
of the societal mindset and the ways by which a society works. Segregation in the text is more than
common and the isolation between groups is prominent. In Callaghan s work, the white culture is
racist and oppresses the black culture, remaining stuck in their oppressive ways. The belief that their
ways should not change describes Catherine Carver, a young woman who has a divorce and engages
in a romantic relationship with McAlpine. Catherine is the daughter of Mr. Carver, an aristocrat who is
very set in his ways and does not believe in change, which he passes down to his daughter. In contrast
to the river, the mountain represents Catherine and the overall white culture at the time. A mountain is
firm and never moves nor does it change, which is why those who wanted

Analysis Of The Movie I Marry A Millionaire, Marilyn...
In How to Marry a Millionaire, Marilyn Monroe, Lauren Bacall and Betty Grable play three young,
posh models who live together in a luxurious New York City apartment. The girls have but one
mission: marry a wealthy man no matter how old, boring, or ugly he may be. The film possesses a
certain comedic quality similar to that of the Three Stooges. Shatze Page, the central character played
by Lauren Bacall, appears to be the brains of the trio while the two other women are portrayed as dim
witted blondes who are simply following along with a scheme concocted by the seemingly ever stern
brunette. In fact, throughout the film the women are depicted as weak, simple, and generally inferior
to the men that they pursue. Their absolute goal in life is to impress men. They had no desire to
advance their careers or further their education, they simply wanted to marry a wealthy man and spend
their remaining days living in ignorant luxury. This could reflect the fact that many women were not
working at the time of production, most attended to the home and children full time. In 1953, only
25% of women in the country were working. Pola Debevoise, the character played by Marilyn
Monroe, requires glasses to see. She describes herself as blind as a bat without them. Yet, she spends a

unconventional statistical analysis to enable the Oakland Athletics to outplay much wealthier teams in

Baseball is a true team sport .
Sabermetrics, the statistical method applied by Bean and his acquaintance Paul DePodesta deviated
from these overused and overvalued measures, and focused on team players, not volatile superstars
(Moneyball). Sabermetrics revolved around the analysis of undervalued statistics primarily on base
percentage, the number of times a player swings at the first pitch, and the average number of pitches
per at bat a player sees (Moneyball). With this tactic, Billy Beane and the Oakland Athletics were able
to win many more games than they would have if they were constrained by overvalued players. Beane
was able to use this ingenious method of statistical analysis to discern the unique talents of
undervalued players that did not meet the statistical criteria of big market teams. With a very
specifically assembled team, whereby some players were even forced to switch positions, the Oakland
Athletics had seemed to overcome the odds.
A prime example of the potential success of sabermetrics was seen in a player named Scott Hatteberg.
Hatteberg spent most of his career lingering around the Boston Red Sox organization as a catcher both
in the minor leagues and in the major leagues (Moneyball). Hatteberg was seen as a very average
catcher and hitter throughout the big leagues. He did his job well enough, however he did not stand
out in popular statistical categories such as homeruns and RBIs. Unacknowledged by the Red Sox,

subtly and gradually. One of the most interesting elements of novels is how a character matures and
develops over time, the way an individual would in reality. Randle McMurphy, the hero figure of One
Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest by Ken Kesey, started out as a light hearted rebel who challenged
authority for entertainment, then became a martyr, eventually dying for the patients of the ward. This
character development is integral to the plot, as it is what actually drives the story forward into its
climax and conclusion. Milos Forman, the director of the film adaptation of the book, was
unsuccessful in portraying this vital element of the novel. McMurphy acted consistently until the
ending, when he behaved abruptly and unexpectedly differently. This not only confused the viewers of
the movie, but also changed the true meaning behind his actions. Randle McMurphy s shift in
personality advanced the plot because it created the main conflict of the novel. The downtrodden
patients of the hospital ward were too afraid to rise against the oppressive and power hungry Nurse
Ratched, but from the very beginning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though Nicholson and Forman made small attempts to depict the growth of his character, they were
too minimal, insignificant, and late in the film, to make a large impact on the viewers. It was almost as
if the director did not understand the true gravity of McMurphy to the novel, not as a hero, but as a
person. He was willing to die for a cause, and for his friends. After all, martyrs don t materialize when
they are needed; they are created by circumstances and the needs of people around

Rhetorical Analysis Of John LeoWhen Life Imitates Video
Rhetorical analysis of John Leo essay When life imitates Video.
The Writer of When life imitates Video , John Leo has tried to persuade his readers the reason why
violent video games have negative impact on children s character. The first main goal of his article is
to show the relationship between playing murderous games and violent actions. His second main goal
is to make emotional appeal to parents the need to monitor their child from exposure of graphic
violent medias. Most of his argument comes from his personal believe otherwise not supported by any
evidence except making emotional(pathos) and logical(logos) appeal by trying to associate violence
occurred in the Colorado with violent video games. To further strengthen his argument, he cited the
Los Angles Times which describe the characters children display while watching morbid video games
and he tried to link the aggressive behavior modeled in the game and violent character. He assume the
whole society as his audience. As he stated it, we are now a society in which the form of play for
millions of youngsters is making a large number of people die .He succeeded in writing and
informative and an emotionally appealing article with a potential of convincing his audience against
violent video games. Leo on his writing has tried to persuade readers without putting concrete facts to
convince his readers. Most of his argument is based on personal belief. He have stated some violence s
which was inflicted by teenagers, which he believes, are caused by video games. The audiences
limitation include basic knowledge of video games since his audience include all walks of the society.
He has tried to convey his main passage to his audience with pathos if we want to avoid more littleton
style massacre, we will begin taking the social effects of the killing games more seriously by pledging
emotionally appeal he tried to influence parents to take measure against showing violent video games
to their children. Ethos directed toward parents. However, his appeal is not supported by facts with
limited knowledge of violent video games. From the reading it seems that the writer himself is a
parent since he appealed how much the youth of the nation is important. He

The Homelessness Reduction And Prevention, Housing, And...
Proposition HHH is the Homelessness Reduction and Prevention, Housing, and Facilities Bond ( City
Proposes $1.2 billion Bond to House the Homeless , n.d.). This measure will establish a 1.2 billion
bond that will create funding towards permanent supportive housing, conventional affordable housing
without services, shelters and other measures like portable showers and storage facilities ( City
Proposes $1.2 billion Bond to House the Homeless , n.d.). The main goal of this proposition is to
reduce homelessness in the City of Los Angeles, by building 10,000 housing units over the next ten
years (The Times Editorial Board, 2016). Furthermore, this measure needs two thirds votes to pass in
the November 2016 election.
This measure will finance the construction of supportive and affordable housing for homeless people
in the City of Los Angeles. Permanent supportive housing is a type of housing that has supportive on
site services like case management and physical and mental health care programs ( Yes On HHH Help
House the Homeless , n.d.). According to Rog et al. (2014) permanent supportive housing is a proven
intervention that has reduced homelessness, increased housing tenure, and decreased emergency room
visits. Permanent Supportive Housing is effective, recent research show that homeless people that are
involved in this program remained housed. In addition, in 2015, within the Los Angeles Continuum of
Care, 96% of formerly homeless people living in permanent supportive housing

Intrisic Motivation Increases Student Achievement
Brief Review of the Literature Studies have indicated that intrinsic motivation increases student
achievement. The success of integrating technology with increased student achievement could vary
based on students intrinsic motivational styles. ATLAS has identified viable motivational styles within
individual learning styles. Understanding different technologies and their effect on motivational styles
in ATLAS has not been studied, but studies validate the importance and the need for this study.
Technology Integration Cauley, Aiken, and Whitney (2010) researched students comfort levels with
technology and their success in school. The participants consisted of 168 students. The participants

108). This research is important to the proposed study because it indicates that student engagement
can be increased if technology is implemented correctly. Ehrlich, Sporte, and Sebring (2013) reported
the differences in technology use in districts in Chicago. The study found that 92 percent of students
have access to the internet and technology at home. However, the frequency of use varied depending
on the school that the students attended. Twenty to thirty percent of students used technology at school
never or rarely. An inequality of technology exists between schools and schools that use technology.
Schools that frequently use technology have higher achieving students. Enrich et al., (2010) stated,
Technology use is ubiquitous in America s colleges and most workplaces, and it is fast becoming
accepted as fact that all students elementary and high school must be exposed to technology (p. 1).
This research is important to the proposed study because it indicates that the use of technology is
inconsistent even when there is similar availability to technology. This research implies that
researchers need to determine better ways of implementing technology consistently. Learning Styles

motivational levels of middle school

Implementation Of 8x8 Modified Booth Multiplier With Hpm...
Figure 3.6: Implementation of 8x8 Modified Booth Multiplier with HPM Reduction Method [4]
The Figure.3.6 shows the implementation 8x8 modified booth multiplier using High Performance
Multiplier (HPM) reduction method [4]. The modified booth algorithm is a predominant high
performance multiplier which has low number of partial products row. The generation of these partial
products is quite complex to implement in hardware. So in this work has used a straight forward way
of implementing a Signed and Unsigned Multiplication using Baugh Wooley Algorithm with HPM
reduction tree method. Baugh Wooley Multiplier with HPM reduction tree is discussed in Chapter Six.
CHAPTER FOUR: LOW POWER DESIGN
4.1 Introduction:
In earlier stages of VLSI circuit design the emphasis is on Area and Speed optimization giving
concerns to Packaging and Efficient designing. As the technology scales down according to
predictions of Moor s Law, it is advent that the CMOS dimensions have been scaled down drastically.
But due to increase in use of Portable Devices Such as Cellphones, Laptops, Personal Health
Monitoring systems, there has been a demand of higher battery life for Portable devices. Whereas big
data centers which contains large set of circuits consumes tremendous power and dissipates large
amount of heat which incurs huge cost to maintain. The solution for these problems is to design
circuits which consume low power which give rise to the concept of Low Power VLSI designing.

The Problem Of Evil By John Leslie Mackie
The Problem of Evil by John Leslie Mackie is a philosophical argument that discusses the logical
paradoxes and impossibilities of God s existence. Written in 1955, it details how Mackie believes that
because God is represented as an omnipotent (perfectly powerful) and omnibenevolent (wholly good)
being, evil cannot exist and thus neither can God. I will explain those paradoxes and defend Mackie s
argument, but I shall will question the justification of his claims to God s existence. I shall also
provide and discuss three theistic objections to the problem of evil, both adequate and fallacious.
The Problem of Evil as characterized by J. L. Mackie can be summarised in three points:
1. God is omnipotent
2. God is omnibenevolent
3. Evil ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Suffering of any kind would inherently constrain God s omnibenevolence and omnipotence because it
implies that God chose not to, or could not, erase all suffering from existence. A theologian like Hume
would argue that ...the existence of pain and disease makes possible the existence of sympathy,
benevolence, heroism, and the gradually successful struggle of doctors and reformers to overcome
these evils (1955, p.206) This may be true, but God s benevolence would not enable him to allow pain
and disease to exist as it is considered morally wrong. Therefore, God s omnibenevolence is limited
because he allows evil to continue but that does not mean he cannot

  • 2. The Yellow Wallpaper Symbolism Essay Commonly overlooked in its significance, the garden in The Yellow Wallpaper successfully represents all elements of the main character s rebellious intentions. Generally, a garden features well trimmed vegetation, which is guarded by a fence or wall to keep away outside forces, whether it be humans or animals with intentions to harm the plants. In contrast, nature operates in a free flowing manner, with its greenery tangled in abundance and lacking any type of structure. On the surface, it may seem that the garden s kempt appearance is a blessing to the plants within, as they are saved from the uncertainties of natural life by being incubated in a specific space. The main character of The Yellow Wallpaper originally follows this notion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The word choice the main character employs to describe the plants is particularly notable, as it implies a disobedient appearance in a garden that expects conformity in its essence. This oddly described foliage becomes the inanimate representation of the main character herself, who is also trying to rebel against a world passionate in its attempts to suppress and demean. The plants become riotous and gnarly to actively resist attempts to be subordinated by the garden, and the main character s observation of this conveys her desire to revolt, even though she cannot express her displeasure in a communicable language. The main character s envy of the plants makes this symbol even more powerful, as the greenery represents where she seeks to be: in a position where she can fight her oppressors by being openly nonconformist. Unfortunately for the main character, her rebellious behavior haves to be tucked away in the subconscious and in her own thoughts, as she is unable to voice legitimate concerns in a patriarchal ... Julia Alvarez s novel, In the Time of the Butterflies (1994) centers around the lives of the four Mirabal Sisters who courageously brought acknowledgement to the inhumane and brutal actions of Dictator Rafael Trujillo and the treatment of women in a society where they were seen as property. In the 2001 film adaptation directed by Mariano Barroso, the film mainly centers on Minerva Mirabal, the outspoken and rebellious sister. Despite bearing some minor similarities, there are more differences between Julia Alvarez s In the Time of the Butterflies and Mariano Barroso s film both author/director start the story of the sisters in different ways, in the novel the reader is able to see all of the perspective of the sisters instead of only Minerva s, ... The focus on Minerva s perspective in the film, leads the viewer into believing that the other sisters weren t as important as Minerva when trying to fight Trujillo, But then again, here in that little room was the same Patria Mercedes, who wouldn t have hurt a butterfly, shouting, Amen to the revolution. • 5. The Psychedelic Era The Psychedelic Era started in the 1960 s and went all the way to 1975. This movement not only influenced music and art but influenced a wide variety of things including pop culture, dress and wardrobe, language, literature and philosophy. The Psychedelic Era was mostly influenced by the drug culture, especially LSD, from the youth movements that were trying to create a society free from discrimination. After WWII, launched the baby boom where nearly 76 million babies were born in America between 1945 and 1957. In the 1960s the babies were young adults and started to question materialism and conservative cultural and political norms (Psychedelic 60s). From this evolution sparked the feminist movement and the Black movement. In America during the 60s and 70s faced a lot of controversial issues that include the civil rights, the Vietnam War, sexual freedom, nuclear proliferation, nonconformity and the environment of duge use which lead to many youths experimenting with psychedelic drugs and Eastern Mysticism. This influenced the name psychedelic which refers to drugs that were popular with the youth culture of the time and caused artwork to express the feeling of tripping out (Psychedelic 60s). • 6. The Rights Of Minority Rights The founding fathers feared that setting up a democracy where the power is all in the hands of the majority would allow the majority to take control over everyone else in the country. This would directly cause a denial of rights of minorities. Thomas Jefferson said in his inaugural address, All, too, will bear in mind this sacred principle, that though the will of the majority is in all cases to prevail, that will to be rightful must be reasonable; that the minority possess their equal rights, which equal law must protect, and to violate would be oppression (1). Although defying majority rule may anger the people the government s most important duty is to protect minority rights rather than following majority rule. The worst result that could occur would be to deny minority rights because of a lack of government protection. Although a democracy is focused on majority rule the rights of the minorities must not be ignored. A principle of democracy is that everyone receives equal opportunities in order to fight to become the majority. By protecting minority rights we are protecting the individual. Our government was set up giving rights to every person so that everyone can have an equal opportunity. For example the right to freedom of speech gives minority groups the opportunity to voice their complaints and cause a positive change from the government. If minorities are not given the right to voice their opinion and fight to become a majority they will never be on an equal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For example in line 14, Don t speak too soon for the wheel s still in spin (Dylan 14), and line 26, It ll soon shake your windows and rattle your walls (Dylan 26). Dylan uses these phrases to create a feeling of hope and suspense for all that is to come. Also, Dylan shows real life connections in his lyrics by the use of metaphors. For instance, Admit that the waters around you have grown, and accept it it that soon you ll be drenched to the bone (Dylan 3). He starts off one of his hits by using the waters as a metaphor to all the social changes that happened during the 1960s such as, the civil rights movement. In addition, it is evident the use of repetition at the end of every verse when he says, for the times they are a changin (Dylan), to transmit his message and to make it clear. Maintaining the union within such a large group has grown more difficult as numerous treaties have been drafted to control the governance of the European Union. To reduce the number of treaties in the union, the convention decided to draft a Constitution, which now moves through the process of ratification in each of the sovereign nations. From there, the countries decided to expand their connections with the Treaty of Rome in 1957. This treaty created the European Atomic Energy Community and the European Economic Community, both of which helped strengthen economic ties between the countries. The member states strove to create a common market amongst themselves by removing trade barriers1. This common market was created slowly with a lengthy transitional period, during which tariff barriers would be removed and a common external customs tariff set up 2. It was at this point that the High Authority transformed into the Commission, an executive authority within the treaties. The Parliamentary Assembly, Court of Justice and Council of Ministers each then evolved by 1967. Analyzing Wallace s Theory Of Natural Selection Wallace and his line Charles Darwin has credit with the theory of natural selection in the history books, however there was another person Alfred Russell Wallace who came to the same conclusion. He was of plebian descent and had no reservations about going against the doctrines of the Church of England. He, like Darwin, had similar questions about species variation, diversity, and fitness; he decided to seek out the answers in his travels. Wallace s theory of evolution came from his experiences and observations in the unexplored islands of the Malay Archipelago specifically Borneo, Bali, Lombok, and New Guinea and Australia. Although Wallace s journey began in Singapore, Borneo became the stepladder to defining his first law. He combines geology and natural history to hypothesize that species connect in space and time to a closely allied predecessor. Further explaining that these connections are dendritic with extant species outermost and with extinct closely allied species innermost. Homelessness affects an estimated 650,000 Americans in the United States daily and the number of people experiencing homelessness is continuing to rise across the United States and more specifically in Massachusetts. According to the 2014 Annual Homelessness Assessment, between 2013 2014 Massachusetts saw the fourth largest increase in homelessness in the United States and on any given night an estimated 3000 individual shelter beds are occupied ( Basic Facts on, 2016). Furthermore, homelessness magnifies poor health, exposes those in crowded shelters to communicable diseases, complicates management of chronic illnesses and uncovers deep fault lines in our healthcare system (O Connell et al., 2010). Lack of access to affordable housing is the main driving force behind the rise in homelessness, followed closely by poverty, mental health disabilities, and substance abuse disorders. These individuals need: services that address their tangible needs for housing, income and employment; access to flexible, low demand interventions; and long term continuous treatment and support (Wells, 2003). In the 16th century, it may have been a historical fact that Eve was created from Adam s rib, thus the socially accepted system of patriarchy. Throughout this paper, I will discuss the various methods and the factors that contribute to the outcomes of each one. The context of this paper will be discussed in the manners of both the positive and negative aspects of each method. With each method, I will also explain the factors that significantly influence the price of each method used. Currently, Cenovus is trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange at a value of $17.83. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is one of the most significant downfalls of this method, because you can greatly misprice the value of the firm without considering the cash flows as well as other variables. Another common valuation method that one may use is the EV/EBITDA ratio method. This specific method takes into consideration the value of EBITDA as well as the value of net debt (market value of debt). Another important consideration that investors must be aware of is the type of depreciation method that Cenovus uses. Since Cenovus is a large asset company, this is a vital aspect to consider when using the book value method. If Cenovus depreciates their assets at a faster pace, this will allow investors to part take in a valuable investment and would cause for a positive pick for their portfolio. However, if the company depreciates their asset in a slower manner, this could create a higher book price than what the stock is currently trading at. This may misrepresent the value of the firm to the investor. Investors should be cautious when considering this type of method for valuing companies. Therefore, investors should do thorough research in what type of depreciation method Cenovus uses. The methods include a straight line depreciation or a double declining method. Both have a significant impact on the share price of the firm when using the book value approach. One common method within the industry ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I spent a whole day observing the operation processes and the procedure itself, at the same time, I was able to get the patient to the post operative care before they are discharged or sent to another floor for further observation. I had an opportunity to observe four procedures. When I first arrived I was fortunate enough to meet with a nurse who let me in the OR, who happened to be the preoperative nurse that I will work with. After changing, we got a list of 2 patients. The first thing the nurse did was to explain to me that we had to look for basic information such as allergies, lab results, present history and physical for the patient. If there is no previous history within the last month or weeks, then we need to remind the doctor to write a new one. Once we met with the patients, we started by taking vital signs, asking their identity, and ask them to explain why they are there and what procedure they are there for. I remember my nurse asking the patients about whether or not they are in the menopausal stages or if there is a chance of them being pregnant. At the same time, my nurse gave antibacterial wipes for the patients to wipe themselves in specific areas and change into the hospital gowns. My nurse then started the IV with fluid and antibiotics while we discuss the medical history of the patient from the previous procedure to active diagnosis, to medication that they are taking and ... Their overall target market is mature adults with mid to very high income levels. This method can be used for customers of the four or five star ships. This loyalty program would provide occasional direct offers to customers who already have experience with Cunard and therefore will not view the deals as a lowering of standards. An example of a deal that can be provided is a selling package that is good for a year or two. This package would outline a discounted price for a set amount of people to travel on a certain cruise ship. That way, there is enough time for a customer to realistically plan out a trip while providing an incentive for them and encourage more action as opposed to a regular priced ad. Lastly, an alternative that can be taken is to build relationships with various large companies with employees who make an income in the target range and make offers to company executives. This method would not downplay the company image because Cunard would be communicating directly with high income executives and furthermore will not be making any public sales or advertisements. This method would create new potential customers who are directly in the target market of choice using the method of relationship building. This may also result in additional customer retention. After a human being consumes food, the food gets transported to the stomach where the border cells located there start producing Hydrochloric Acid (HCl) which is an acid that aids in the digestion of the food. In order to buffer or neutralize this highly acidic chemical, those same border cells also secrete a base called Sodium Bicarbonate (NaHCO3) at the same time thanks to their dual function. NaCl + CO2 + H2O NaHCO3 + HCl In addition, during intensive exercise, the muscles will have less oxygen provided to them. Effects Of Wetlands On The Environment Essay WETLANDS wetlands are defined as transitional land between terrestrial and aquatic systems where the water table is usually at or near the surface or the land is covered by shallow water. Symbols work to break down a character and present their opinions on society to gain a better understanding of what the individual believes in. Peggy Sanderson is an advocate for change in the treatment of black culture and is constantly showing her respect for the group that others oppress. A symbol that best describes Peggy s opinion is the river, which flows around the city of Montreal. It was those who wanted a change who preferred the broad flowing river (Callaghan 1), perfectly describing Peggy through the use of symbolism in nature. Peggy wants to see change in the world and her strive for change is like a river that is constantly flowing. Water in a river never stops and fresh water replaces it as it flows. Peggy never stops respecting the African American culture and will always speak her mind on the subject, despite what others believe. Similar to the river, the mountain is also an important piece of symbolism in the text. Symbolism creates a representation of the societal mindset and the ways by which a society works. Segregation in the text is more than common and the isolation between groups is prominent. In Callaghan s work, the white culture is racist and oppresses the black culture, remaining stuck in their oppressive ways. The belief that their ways should not change describes Catherine Carver, a young woman who has a divorce and engages in a romantic relationship with McAlpine. Catherine is the daughter of Mr. Carver, an aristocrat who is very set in his ways and does not believe in change, which he passes down to his daughter. Sabermetrics, the statistical method applied by Bean and his acquaintance Paul DePodesta deviated from these overused and overvalued measures, and focused on team players, not volatile superstars (Moneyball). Sabermetrics revolved around the analysis of undervalued statistics primarily on base percentage, the number of times a player swings at the first pitch, and the average number of pitches per at bat a player sees (Moneyball). With this tactic, Billy Beane and the Oakland Athletics were able to win many more games than they would have if they were constrained by overvalued players. Beane was able to use this ingenious method of statistical analysis to discern the unique talents of undervalued players that did not meet the statistical criteria of big market teams. With a very specifically assembled team, whereby some players were even forced to switch positions, the Oakland Athletics had seemed to overcome the odds. Even complete transformations can sometimes be hard to notice, as they may happen subtly and gradually. One of the most interesting elements of novels is how a character matures and develops over time, the way an individual would in reality. Randle McMurphy, the hero figure of One Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest by Ken Kesey, started out as a light hearted rebel who challenged authority for entertainment, then became a martyr, eventually dying for the patients of the ward. This character development is integral to the plot, as it is what actually drives the story forward into its climax and conclusion. Milos Forman, the director of the film adaptation of the book, was unsuccessful in portraying this vital element of the novel. It was almost as if the director did not understand the true gravity of McMurphy to the novel, not as a hero, but as a person. He was willing to die for a cause, and for his friends. • 43. Rhetorical Analysis Of John LeoWhen Life Imitates Video Rhetorical analysis of John Leo essay When life imitates Video. The Writer of When life imitates Video , John Leo has tried to persuade his readers the reason why violent video games have negative impact on children s character. The first main goal of his article is to show the relationship between playing murderous games and violent actions. His second main goal is to make emotional appeal to parents the need to monitor their child from exposure of graphic violent medias. Most of his argument comes from his personal believe otherwise not supported by any evidence except making emotional(pathos) and logical(logos) appeal by trying to associate violence occurred in the Colorado with violent video games. To further strengthen his argument, he cited the Los Angles Times which describe the characters children display while watching morbid video games and he tried to link the aggressive behavior modeled in the game and violent character. He assume the whole society as his audience. As he stated it, we are now a society in which the form of play for millions of youngsters is making a large number of people die .He succeeded in writing and informative and an emotionally appealing article with a potential of convincing his audience against violent video games. Leo on his writing has tried to persuade readers without putting concrete facts to convince his readers. Most of his argument is based on personal belief. He have stated some violence s which was inflicted by teenagers, which he believes, are caused by video games. The audiences limitation include basic knowledge of video games since his audience include all walks of the society. He has tried to convey his main passage to his audience with pathos if we want to avoid more littleton style massacre, we will begin taking the social effects of the killing games more seriously by pledging emotionally appeal he tried to influence parents to take measure against showing violent video games to their children. Ethos directed toward parents. However, his appeal is not supported by facts with limited knowledge of violent video games. From the reading it seems that the writer himself is a parent since he appealed how much the youth of the nation is important. He ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Homelessness Reduction And Prevention, Housing, And... Proposition HHH is the Homelessness Reduction and Prevention, Housing, and Facilities Bond ( City Proposes $1.2 billion Bond to House the Homeless , n.d.). This measure will establish a 1.2 billion bond that will create funding towards permanent supportive housing, conventional affordable housing without services, shelters and other measures like portable showers and storage facilities ( City Proposes $1.2 billion Bond to House the Homeless , n.d.). The main goal of this proposition is to reduce homelessness in the City of Los Angeles, by building 10,000 housing units over the next ten years (The Times Editorial Board, 2016). Furthermore, this measure needs two thirds votes to pass in the November 2016 election. This measure will finance the construction of supportive and affordable housing for homeless people in the City of Los Angeles. Permanent supportive housing is a type of housing that has supportive on site services like case management and physical and mental health care programs ( Yes On HHH Help House the Homeless , n.d.). According to Rog et al. (2014) permanent supportive housing is a proven intervention that has reduced homelessness, increased housing tenure, and decreased emergency room visits. Permanent Supportive Housing is effective, recent research show that homeless people that are involved in this program remained housed. In addition, in 2015, within the Los Angeles Continuum of Care, 96% of formerly homeless people living in permanent supportive housing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Intrisic Motivation Increases Student Achievement Brief Review of the Literature Studies have indicated that intrinsic motivation increases student achievement. The success of integrating technology with increased student achievement could vary based on students intrinsic motivational styles. ATLAS has identified viable motivational styles within individual learning styles. Understanding different technologies and their effect on motivational styles in ATLAS has not been studied, but studies validate the importance and the need for this study. Technology Integration Cauley, Aiken, and Whitney (2010) researched students comfort levels with technology and their success in school. The participants consisted of 168 students. The participants were given a survey to analyze their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 108). This research is important to the proposed study because it indicates that student engagement can be increased if technology is implemented correctly. Ehrlich, Sporte, and Sebring (2013) reported the differences in technology use in districts in Chicago. The study found that 92 percent of students have access to the internet and technology at home. However, the frequency of use varied depending on the school that the students attended. Twenty to thirty percent of students used technology at school never or rarely. An inequality of technology exists between schools and schools that use technology. Schools that frequently use technology have higher achieving students. Enrich et al., (2010) stated, Technology use is ubiquitous in America s colleges and most workplaces, and it is fast becoming accepted as fact that all students elementary and high school must be exposed to technology (p. 1). This research is important to the proposed study because it indicates that the use of technology is inconsistent even when there is similar availability to technology. This research implies that researchers need to determine better ways of implementing technology consistently. • 46. Implementation Of 8x8 Modified Booth Multiplier With Hpm... Figure 3.6: Implementation of 8x8 Modified Booth Multiplier with HPM Reduction Method [4] The Figure.3.6 shows the implementation 8x8 modified booth multiplier using High Performance Multiplier (HPM) reduction method [4]. The modified booth algorithm is a predominant high performance multiplier which has low number of partial products row. The generation of these partial products is quite complex to implement in hardware. So in this work has used a straight forward way of implementing a Signed and Unsigned Multiplication using Baugh Wooley Algorithm with HPM reduction tree method. Baugh Wooley Multiplier with HPM reduction tree is discussed in Chapter Six. CHAPTER FOUR: LOW POWER DESIGN 4.1 Introduction: In earlier stages of VLSI circuit design the emphasis is on Area and Speed optimization giving concerns to Packaging and Efficient designing. As the technology scales down according to predictions of Moor s Law, it is advent that the CMOS dimensions have been scaled down drastically. But due to increase in use of Portable Devices Such as Cellphones, Laptops, Personal Health Monitoring systems, there has been a demand of higher battery life for Portable devices. Whereas big data centers which contains large set of circuits consumes tremendous power and dissipates large amount of heat which incurs huge cost to maintain. The solution for these problems is to design circuits which consume low power which give rise to the concept of Low Power VLSI designing. As this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. The Problem Of Evil By John Leslie Mackie The Problem of Evil by John Leslie Mackie is a philosophical argument that discusses the logical paradoxes and impossibilities of God s existence. Written in 1955, it details how Mackie believes that because God is represented as an omnipotent (perfectly powerful) and omnibenevolent (wholly good) being, evil cannot exist and thus neither can God. I will explain those paradoxes and defend Mackie s argument, but I shall will question the justification of his claims to God s existence. I shall also provide and discuss three theistic objections to the problem of evil, both adequate and fallacious. The Problem of Evil as characterized by J. L. Mackie can be summarised in three points: 1. God is omnipotent 2. God is omnibenevolent 3. Evil ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Suffering of any kind would inherently constrain God s omnibenevolence and omnipotence because it implies that God chose not to, or could not, erase all suffering from existence. A theologian like Hume would argue that ...the existence of pain and disease makes possible the existence of sympathy, benevolence, heroism, and the gradually successful struggle of doctors and reformers to overcome these evils (1955, p.206) This may be true, but God s benevolence would not enable him to allow pain and disease to exist as it is considered morally wrong. Therefore, God s omnibenevolence is limited because he allows evil to continue but that does not mean he cannot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
