The Effects Of Physical Abuse On Mental Illness
Today, a colossal four hundred and fifty million (and growing) people in the world suffer from some
form of mental illness in the world, however, only around one third of them seek any form of help
(who.int World Health Report). This number was probably much lower in 1904, when this story was
written, but I imagine it was also much more shameful and frightening to admit that you had a
problem and needed help with all of the closer knit neighborhoods and insane asylums that have
closed down over the last hundred years. While I read Paul s case, I thought of a number of things,
history of physical abuse or trauma that might have made him shy away from physical contact, drug
use (even one prescribed for a chronic illness or disease,) and that even a terminal illness had made
him misanthropic. Nevertheless, I always came back to mental illness. The few sentences that
solidified my belief were: I don t really believe that smile of his comes altogether from insolence;
there s something sort of haunted about it. The boy is not strong for one Thing. There is something
wrong with the fellow (Paul s Case, Willa Cather). Paul had dramatic changes in mood from one place
to another, anywhere art related or the finer things in life created an intoxicating, manic state; the
unremarkable had the opposite effect, he became disdainful and lethargic. Paul s delusions of
grandeur, his dramatic mood and personality changes from manic to depressive, and his disposition
led me to

Theodora Mead Abel was born September 9, 1899 in Rhode Island. Being an only child was as an
advantage for Theodora, allowing her to travel frequently with her parents. Most of her childhood

As I Reflect On The Process Of Writing This Rhetoric Analytic
As I reflect on the process of writing this rhetoric analytic research paper on two different scholarly
educational articles from different educational journals, I realize that this was the most difficult paper
to write thus far. Before this class, I never knew what rhetoric analysis of a paper was and had no clue
how to do it until we were granted the rhetoric worksheets. It was a challenge writing this paper
because prior to the peer review, I did not choose the appropriate articles. I had two from the same
journal because I did not read the directions thoroughly. Also, organizing the paper was difficult
because I was not sure how to exactly write a rhetoric paper on articles. After the peer review, I
received great advice on how I can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although these two articles are scholarly and educational, they do differ in conditions like the articles
context, the overall purpose of the articles, and the articles exigency, or relevancy.
The scholarly article, Dressed and Groomed for Success in Elementary School Student Appearance
and Academic Adjustment is written by Caroline Fitzpatrick, Carolyn Cote Lussier, and Clancy Blair.
This scholarly, peer reviewed article is about how instructor s negative perceptions, biases, and
academic adjustments for their students can not only hinder student s potential in the classroom, but
also their outlook on schools, specifically in elementary grades.
The second scholarly article, Critical Race Theory and Whiteness of Teacher Education is written by
Christine E. Sleeter. This article is about how teacher education can be changed by addressing the
Whiteness within it and how the targeted audience can be challenged.
Due to the fact that the articles are different, then the purposes for these articles differ. The purpose of
the first article is to see how theory and research suggest that students academic experiences are likely
to be associated with their general appearance and demeanor (Fitpatrick et al. 32). It is to inform the
audience of teachers and policy makers, on how teachers are pre judging their students based off of
their initial appearance and relating that to their competence at school. Teachers are creating

Review Of Hairspray By John Waters
From Grease to Rent, musical comedies have been known to enlighten viewers on specific issues
while keeping the context of the musical pleasurable and easy to enjoy. The 2007 musical film
Hairspray is a satire of Baltimore in the early 1960 s while going through the Civil Rights movement.
Through this romantic comedy, the agon of African American civil rights and other power struggles
among race gender, and class are depicted through certain comic techniques to keep the musical
lighthearted but meaningful.
The 2007 play, Hairspray, is based off of a 2002 Broadway musical which was ultimately based off the
1988 comedy film by John Waters also named Hairspray. It begins in 1962 just before the Civil Rights
movements took place. A plump teenager named Tracy Turnblad wants to audition for a local
television dancing show, The Corny Collins Show, but her mother Edna won t let her follow her
dreams of being famous. Edna thinks she will get hurt because she doesn t look like the perfect girl
they typically allow on the show, but rather a plus sized version of them. Regardless of her weight,
Tracy s dance moves get her on the show where she meets her crush, Link. With plump Tracy on the
show and new changes in the air, the theme of equality reoccurs as Tracy fights to make the show
integrated, causing Negro Day on the show to be an everyday occurrence. Along with its camp
aesthetic, the comedy is full of slapstick humor and parabasis recurrence to demonstrate the main

The Girl With Only Two Arms And Two Legs Literary Analysis
I bet you like to be treated well. In the story, Quarta was not treated well. Her classmates were really
mean t o her even though she was really nice to everybody else. The theme in the story The Girl With
Only Two Arms And Two Legs By is to treat people how you would like to be treated. You can tell
this is true because Quarta is very nice to everybody but nobody is nice to her. I know this because she
lets anybody play One Ball, a game she introduced to her classmates. One Ball is a game that is very
close to volleyball. I also know that this is the theme because Quarta helps others. Even though her
classmates who had four arms and four legs are mean to Quarta because she has only two of each.
This shows that she follows the golden rule even though her classmates are mean. Last but not least
the other kids are plain out mean to her. These are reasons why this story is about treat people how
you want to be treated. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She even let Shay play One Ball. The reason why this is nice is because Shay has two deformed legs
and arms so he only has two working ones of each like Quarta. My next reason why I know this is true
is because she lets the kids that bullied her and didn t let her play their games with them to play One
Ball. Lastly, she lets the other kids that the bullies won t let play with them play. This is one reason of
how Quarta follows the golden

A Report On The Air Service
On Dec. 17, 1903, brothers Orville and Wilbur Wright spent over four years of constant research and
design efforts beginning with a 120 foot, 12 second flight in Kitty Hawk, N.C. This was the very first
flight in a heavier than air machine. Up till then people had only ever flown in balloons and gliders.
Leon Delagrange was the first passenger to fly in a plane, he flew with French pilot Henri Farman
from a meadow outside of Paris in 1908. Later that year Charles Furnas was the first American
passenger when he flew with Orville Wright at Kitty Hawk. The first proper air service was in Florida

Another slower achievement was improving the aircraft designs, although when World War I arrived,
countries soon realised the importance of aircraft and the advantage they could give. In that time the
production had to increase considering the largely rising demands from governments from both sides
of the Atlantic. What was the most significant of the War was the development of more powerful
motors, these new motors aloud certain aircraft to reach seeps of up to 130 miles per hour. These fast
speeds more than doubles the speed of original war designed aircraft, this rise in speed also aloud
larger aircraft to be possible.
These and other early flights were headline events, but commercial aviation was very slow to catch on
with the general public, most of whom were afraid to ride in the new flying machines. Improvements
in aircraft design also were slow. However, with the advent of World War I, the military value of
aircraft was quickly recognized and production increased to meet the soaring demand for planes from
governments on both sides of the Atlantic. Most significant was the development of more powerful
motors, enabling aircraft to reach speeds of up to 130 miles per hour, more than twice the speed of pre
war aircraft. Increased power also made larger aircraft

Personal Narrative On Independence
About seven months ago tax season was upon us. The time people either rejoice in receiving a fair
amount of money or grieve in a large pay in. For me, it was a time of happiness. I was going to file my
taxes for the first time. My information came in the mail and to H R Block I went. The excitement of
progressing to my independence was overwhelming to say the least. I was finally taking my first step
to doing things on my own. The day came when my bank account overflew with that cash cash dalla

What does matter is what came after the Casey s trip. There, on my front porch, laid many boxes, each

All the pieces were there, everything I had ordered. The excitement I felt was unparalleled to anything

Fingerprints Research Paper
The History of Fingerprints
Fingerprints offer a solid method for an individual s identification. This is the basis for clarification of
fingerprints and has since replaced techniques for identifying people who are reluctant to admit
previous arrests. (Moore, 2017) This essay will discuss the historical backdrop of fingerprints as a
science and timeline, the progression, and accomplishments.
The first known utilization of fingerprinting was in the fourteenth century Persia, where government
authorities utilized their fingerprints, similar to how signatures are utilized today.
In 1823, a professor of anatomy at the University of Breslau, Jan Evangelista Purkynä, published his
proposition examining 9 unique fingerprint patterns, but, he didn t specify the ... Show more content

Hoover, 2006) A fingerprint is an impression of friction ridges of all or any part of the finger; a
friction ridge is a raised segment of the epidermis on the Palmar or plantar skin, comprising of one or
more connected ridge units of friction ridge skin; these ridges are occasionally known as dermal edges
or dermal papillae. ( Science History of Fingerprinting , 2014) Fingerprint identification, also known
as dactyloscopy or palmprint identification; the process of comparing questions and known friction
ridge impressions from fingers or palms to figure out whether the impressions are from a similar
finger or palm. ( Science History of Fingerprinting , 2014) The adaptability of friction ridge skin
implies that no two finger or palm prints are ever precisely similar; never indistinguishable identical in
every detail, even if two impressions are recorded quickly after each other. ( Science History of

Duy Huynh’S Work Has Inspired People For Years And Is Known
Duy Huynh s work has inspired people for years and is known to make a lasting impression on people
at first glance. His inspiration mainly comes from ancient folklore and comic books. While much of
his work is deeply personal, his clever and often times humorous use of symbolism and wordplay
invites the viewer to create their own storyline. There is one painting from his collections that stood
out to me more than any other painting he did, it was called Evening Echos . Evening Echoes painting

In came to this conclusion, by the way arranged the butterflies and having the trumpet the arranged to

women is kind of letting life past her by because she is standing in one position with her eyes close to

highlight her, the trumpet, the moon, and the butterflies by lighting the background surrounding them
and also chose bright colors to color in the objects.
This painting contains a lot of key objects within it that helped express the moral of the painting. One
key element of the painting was the moon, the moon was used to represent a cycle, in my opinion. The
moon represents the passing of time and embodies its cycle. The moon has different phrases
throughout the years and its surface interchanges between light and dark. The light side I believe
represents immortality and source of light and hope during night time. The alternative side of the
moon represents the gorier side of the night. I believe that the moon in this picture, with connection to
the girl, that she experiencing source of hope or promise because the moon is completely light.

Universal Set Of Codes In Health Care Case Study
1) Why is a universally accepted set of codes for diagnoses and procedures/interventions important? In
the prior weeks, I had noted that many health care professionals utilize many different methods of
practice, as well as implement a certain something to each of the medical cases that reflects that
clinician s style. No matter the endless routes to get to a diagnosis or the many diverse
recommendations of treatment for that diagnosis, codes are the same. The medical field having a
universal set of codes for diagnoses and procedures/interventions is very important because this set of
codes keeps all clinicians, medical facilities and insurance companies on the same page. From what I
read, the universal set of codes consists of two volumes

In the movie Hercules is the child of Zeus(The god of the Sky) and Hera(The goddess of Marriage and
Birth). In the movie when Hercules is taken by Hades s minions Hera is devastated and Zeus is
incredibly angry and when Hercules asks questions Zeus is there to answer Hercules s questions.
When Hercules meets up with his parents again they are incredibly excited to see him.
In the myth he has the same father but his mother is Alcmene who is the wife of Amphitryon. When
Hera ( Zeus s wife) finds out about Hercules she gets so mad that she tries to kill him in his crib with 2
serpents but he has super strength so he strangles both of the snakes with Hera s plan failing and

Stereotype Promise
Stereotype Threat and Stereotype Promise are two concepts that explains or rationalize why minority
groups such as African American underperform compared to their white counterparts, and why Asian
American students have successful educational outcomes compared to other minority groups. Using
Claude M. Steele s article of Thin Ice: Stereotype Threat and Black College Students, and Jennifer Lee
and Min Zhou work called From Unassimilable to Exceptional: The Rise of Asian Americans and

subgroups. Stereotype threat and stereotype promise are manifested in everyday educational contexts,

led to Asian ethnic groups being homogenized into the bread racial label of Asian American,
disregarding the differences in ethnicity, class, generation status, and migration history. Which goes on
to further boost the positive stereotypes associated with Asian Americans, and that became a form of
symbolic capital that benefits Asian American students in educational contexts. Teachers favored
Asian American students because they were perceived as bright, hard working, better prepared, and
more willing to put in effort into their homework (Lee and Zhou 17). These perceptions affected the
grades Asian American students would receive, extra help were offered with their coursework and
college applications, and their likelihood of being placed into academic programs and competitive
academic tracks. This help further the theory of stereotype promise, in which Asian American students
began to see themselves the way that teachers and society sees them with the idea of Asian American
Exceptionalism. In results, it led to the self fulfilling prophecy, where it begins with a false definition
of the situation, evoking a new behaviour, which makes the original false conception come true (Lee
and Zhou 18). Both Asian American students and teachers began to believe that all Asians are high
achieving, which resulted a change in the student s behavior, and ultimately, a change in their
academic outcome.

crisis management and the way health care organizations respond to the crisis. This was achieved
through the facilitation of procedural data collection from the selected case across the various sources
of data available as well as encouraging flexibility throughout the study.
4.2 Research Method
The qualitative case study was embraced as the scientific approach. This study was found to be

The following were the considerations for sample size determination;
The sample size that will reach redundancy or saturation this simply indicates the maximum number
of samples to enable the identification of consistent patterns taking into consideration that the
population of the organization was 150 staffs. The other consideration was the largest number of

In the Vatican Synod the bishops voted a ⅔ majority on how people who were divorced can marry

predetermined results. In the Vatican Synod, they also talked about a more merciful church for
divorced people. For example, they had said that the church will provide spiritual help for those that
were married then divorced and may soon be allowed to be welcomed back into the church. Also,
there was a different setup than previous years in the Vatican Synod. For example, in years before the

In the Vatican Synod, the bishops talked about same sex marriage and homosexuality. In my opinion,
this was not a good topic to talk about because the US recently passed a law about same sex marriage
which would make us look bad. Pope Francis also changed the layout of the Vatican Synod to be
different than prior years. For example, in years before this the Vatican Synod was just a discussion of
what they changed, but this year they discussed and voted on laws for the church. In my opinion this
was a good idea so Pope Francis would know why certain people voted for something and try to find
out what affected their decisions. In the Vatican Synod, Pope Francis changed very important laws for
the church. For example, he changed how you can be welcomed back into the church if you were
divorced. This is surprising to me because that is a topic that is usually never brought up at the Vatican
Synod. That is report on my opinion on the Vatican Synod and what Pope Francis did to it this

Monkey Wrench Gang Analysis
Recently, the spread of urban America and governmental control has led to difficulties in finding the
once plentiful wild. People often venture out past city limits into what they perceive as wilderness to
leave society behind in hopes of coming to some major life changing self realization. They believe
that the wild will transform them. However, a deeper look into this fascination with wilderness reveals
that urbanization, and not the wild, results in personal, and societal, transformation. For this reason,
revisiting the wilderness does not create new qualities in individuals, but helps surface qualities that
those individuals already possessed. Evidence to support this claim exists in several popular pieces of
American literature, including Edward Abbey s Monkey Wrench Gang.

urbanization causes an increase in population which impacts the way individuals in an area interact
with one another, resulting in behavior changes among the population such as differentiation,
segmentalization, segregation, and marginalization (625). Due to the implementation of city limits,
and due to the link that exists between urbanization and the development of cities, the beginning and

INTRODUCTION The Canterbury region is the second largest dairy producer in the country
(Statistics New Zealand, n.d.). Over the period of 2007 to 2012, the region has seen an increase of
60,000 hectares of irrigated farm land (Hills, 2013) due to the conversion of beef, sheep and crop
farms to water intensive dairy farming. There has also been an increase of 58% in the number of dairy
farms and a 31% increase in the average herd size of dairy farms (Burns, 2013). For maximum
production, sufficient irrigation is required for dairy farms (Food and Agriculture Organization of the
United Nations, 2000). Therefore dairying requires at least ten times more water than other farming
practices (Ward McKague, 2007). Over the summer months of December, January and February, this
irrigation increase would represent a decrease in the amount of stressed vegetation in the study area.
The study area is a 30km2 section of the Canterbury Plains, situated between the Waimakariri and
Rakaia Rivers (Figure 2), to the west of Christchurch City. It falls within Path 74, Row 90 of Landsat s

Discuss The Role Of Women In America

entailed significant consequences in the colonized country s politics, geographical maps, and people s

colonized countries never forgot to write about it and their people s lives before, during and after their
country s colonization. As Emecheta is one of these writer who is born and brought up in Nigeria, a

Spivak believes that the Western World s master world s master are catachreses, or improper words,
because they claim to represent all women, all workers and all of the proletariat, when there are no

singularity of each of the disempowered people she engages with tests the limits of the dominant
narratives. Among the disempowered Spivak s analysis is basically directed at the subject position of
the female subaltern, whom she describes as doubly marginalized by virtue of relative economic
disadvantage and gender subordination. Further to deal with the social position of the Third World
women Spivak also shifted the focus of essentialist debate from a concern with sexual differences
between men and women to focus on cultural differences between women in the Third World and
women in the First World . She also proposes the idea of strategic essentialism and believes that for
minority groups, in particular, the use of essentialism as a short term strategy to affirm political
identity can be effective, as long as this identity does not get fixed as an essential category by the
dominant group. Chandra Talpade Mohanty in her key text Under Western Eyes deals with the issues

Egyptian Cuisine During The Arab Republic Of Egypt
The unique Egyptian cuisine has been influenced throughout history, particularly by its neighbors
from the Middle East. Those contries that have influenced include Persians (modern day Iraqis),
Greeks, Romans (modern day Italians), Arabs, and Ottomans (from modern day Turkey) first
influenced Egyptian cuisine thousands of years ago. More recently, the foods of other Arabic people in
the Middle East such as the Lebanese, Palestinians, Syrians, as well as some foods from Europe, have
affected the Egyptian diet.
Rice and bread remain staple foods, and molokhiyya(a spinach like vegetable) and ful mudammas
(cooked, creamy fava beans), a national dish.
The Arab Republic of Egypt is located in the northeastern region of the African continent, bordering
both the Mediterranean and Red Seas. The climate is extremely dry and most of the country receives
less than one inch of rainfall each year. The widespread lack of rainfall makes it extremely difficult to

How Did Giambologna Influence Michelangelo
A comparison of the style between the famous Italian Renaissance Sculptors Michelangelo,
Bandinelli, and Giambologna The Italian Renaissance was an explosion of the arts in Italy, not only in
painting and architecture, but in sculpture as well. Over the span of about eighty years, sculpture
became transcendent during this time. Sculpture style has evolved over the course of many years from
something that was not just considered philosophical or just simply aesthetic, but to something that
involves and combines both. One artist that started this shift was Michelangelo. Michelangelo created
breathtaking statues, and because of his innovative thinking and style, he paved the way for other
extraordinary and visionary artists like Bandinelli and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This work was created between the years of 1574 1580 which were many years after the completion of
David and Hercules and Cacus. Giambologna completely created a new and innovative way of
sculpting works. Instead of creating static figures like Michelangelo and Bandinelli, Giambologna
created intense and dramatic characters. The faces on the figures show great emotion. The Sabine
woman is reaching out with a face of distress and uneasiness. The Sabine man on the bottom of the
sculpture has a face filled in terror and worry for the woman being pursued above him. The Roman
carrying the Sabine woman looks like he is in awe of the woman above him. This sculpture expresses
great movement and has a serpentine shape, which was very similar to works from Michelangelo s
later career (like Victory from 1527 28). (In the later part of Michelangelo s career he created works
with a bit more action, than his earlier works). The shape of the figures makes a helix shape, and the
sculpture can be seen differently from all diverse angles. There is an energetic dialogue between the
three figures in this work. There are fleshy characteristics in the figures as well. The bodies of the
figures are muscular and idealized but they are also naturalistic. Especially the hair on the figures look
lifelike and so do the muscles which are accentuated through the contorted positions of the statues.
This shows Giambologna s talent and skill in perfecting the human body with such detail and essence.
Giambologna wanted to create a sense of balance within this work because without one of these
figures in its place, the other figures would fall over. The sculpture also has a sense of weight because
the woman appears to be heavy and the man is balancing to keep his stance, but also to lift her up. The

Rapid adoption of new technologies and improved rural infrastructure induced productivity growth.
The government spending on productivity enhancing investments (especially agricultural research and
extension), rural infrastructure (especially roads and education), and rural development targeted
directly to the rural poor, all contribute to the growth in agricultural productivity. Avila and Evenson
(2004) have utilized FAO published data on cropland, pastureland, labour used in agriculture,
fertilizer, seeds, tractors and combine harvesters and animal stocks for measuring the changes in TFP
for crop production, livestock production and aggregate agricultural production for two periods, 1961
1980 and 1981 2001. Owing to the limitation of data on factor shares, the TFP growth rates seem to be
on a higher side. Modern varieties of the Green Revolution increase in the education level of labour
force, and increases in dietary energy have been reported as sources of TFP growth in the paper.
Modern varieties contributed maximum (64%) to TFP growth, followed by Schooling (22 %) and
nutrition (14 %). Birthal et al. (1999) have analyzed the trend in TFP for the livestock sector in India.
The livestock output grew at the rate of 2.6 per cent per year over the period 1950 51 to 1995 96. The
input index increased by 1.8 per cent per year and the TFP grew at about 0.8 per cent, implying that
technical change contributed about 30 per cent to the overall growth over the past 45

The End of Easy Everything
One of the major issues in global affairs today consists of the supply of energy and other minerals and
commodities. Michael Klare in The End of Easy Everything argues that the transformation from an
effortless to a more resilient resource period will be expensive. Looking at the state of the supply of
energy oil and natural gas today, I tend to agree with the findings as presented by Michael Klare.
Klare explores contentious issues in which easily obtained supplies are terminating. Particularly,
companies that deal in such resources must turn to the more difficult methods to extract sources of oil,
natural gas, and various minerals. This has led to controversial methods such as deep water oil wells,
hydrofracking for natural gas and other energy sources. Also, the acid fracking for copper: which
some environmentalists maintain that these methods cause environmental damage and should not be
permitted.
Klare argues that discovery of a natural resource, for instance, oil, result to producers seeking and
exploiting the most desirable, best quality and those closest to markets. Over time, these resources
become scarce, of poorer quality, harder to extract and extend into the further away area from the
market hence need for discovery of other means of obtaining the resource. These means may cause
several problems, which may include;

is sweating from the brow. He is intently and almost desperately focusing on the dark ominous bird

looking closely at the plump man sitting down waiting what will happen next. Next to the luxurious
devious lady is the relatively short man with curly hair that is quick to talk but lacks wisdom at times

This film to me was a classic film. Sam Spade the main character is a detective that is good at his job.
Throughout the film Spade seems to know what to do and what to say in all scenarios. He is man that
can defend himself without a gun. Throughout the film he seems to be the good guy but at times
seems to be playing the other side is well. This is shown when he is friends with one of the deputies
and then at the same time has meetings with Gutman a well known wealthy criminal. It makes the
viewer think about if Spade is really a good guy because of the lack of emotion that he shows after
losing his partner. Also when he is meeting with Gutman it seems as if he is just as interested in
getting the falcon because of the money he want s for helping Gutman and the others get it. Spade is
made to look like a man that has the upper hand and power. This is shown when the two cops walk
right into his bedroom and they know him but accuse him of Miles Archer s murderer. Spade is able to
convince them to look elsewhere to find Archer s murderer. Even when Spade is at Gutman s hotel
room and Gutman is very powerful the viewer anticipates Spade coming out on top when it came to
business. When Spade was trying to figure out what happened he could sense Brigid O Shaughnessy
wasn t telling the truth. Scenarios like this portrayed Spade as a dominant man. Spade had a plan and
it really wasn t known until the final scene when Spade turned O Shaughnessy over for the murder.
The last scene Spade talks about why he has no choice but to turn her over for the murdering of his
partner. It wasn t until this final scene that viewers fully understand that Spade through all of the
scenes had a plan to get to the bottom of his partners murder. In that way Spade was a true detective.
The viewer along with the characters were unable to notice through him that when he was getting
involved with criminals and money that he was after one thing. That thing

The Works Of David The King David
Throughout the history there has been major events that occurred which left an impact for generations.
A major history that was recorded in the bible was King David ; base on our understanding of history
David was once just a normal shepherd until King Saul the former ruler of Israel appointed him as the
new air to the throne. In the present year David is known as the slayer of Goliath killing him with
stones he put in his sling and cutting of his head. This event was printed as a biblical history because it
is said that before he became King, God gave Saul the position to become the first emperor of Israel,
but after disobeying god s words he was rejected from the throne . David became the symbol of
Florence, many artists have done sculptures of him and two of the best artists were Michelangelo and
Bernini. These two were talented of creating sculptures inspiration of David; although the subjects are
the same their style of sculpting is different. There were other artist whose done sculpture of David,
but by far these two were the best, in my opinion. Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni , was
born in the 15 century the time of the High Renaissance , he was announced the greatest artist in his
time . When he was only 12 years old Michelangelo was sent to study at Florence and became an
apprentice under Ghirlandaio . Michelangelo was born in a religious family; most of his artwork is
based on the legends of how humanity was created and Christ. He also

Environmental Factors In Marigolds By Eugenia Collier
In one s everyday life, we are surrounded with environmental factors that could potentially shape the
aspects of our lives. These types of factors range anywhere from negative to positive on a broad
spectrum. For instance in Eugenia Collier s short story Marigolds , The main character Lizabeth, is
surrounded by an abundance of environmental factors, as she struggles with own internal conflict of
coming to terms that her reign of innocence is slowly fading away. As the story continues, Lizabeth s
environmental factors are exposed, and as a result of these factors, she commits certain actions, in
which she faces consequences for. The particular theme that is emitted from this short narrative, is
symbolic experiences that one may experience in life, have a probability of changing aspects in our
lives . This is tied in with main emphasize of exploring in the text how this particular theme is
exposed by the characters, setting, and the plot of the story.
During the course of the story, Marigolds are repetitively brought up in the dialogue, and the thoughts
of the characters. In fact, the title of the story is Marigolds , but what might be the significance behind
the title? Well for starters the main purpose of the title is a play on the symbolism that Marigolds
represent, which includes passion, creativity, cruelty, grief, and jealousy. This type of symbolism is
then incorporated in the main characters Lizabeth and Ms.Lottie s persona throughout the text.
Evidence to support this claim is in the text it states, For some perverse reason, we children hated
those Marigolds. They infuriated with the perfect ugliness of the place; they were too beautiful; they
said too much; they did not make sense(Collier, Eugenia). As displayed in the quote the traits reflected
upon Lizabeth s persona was jealousy. This is stated because in the quote Lizabeth rambles about the
negative aspects of the marigolds and does not name one positive attribute, this is practical behavior
that is associated with jealousy. The last piece of evidence to support the significance behind the title
is in the text it states The old black witch woman worked on them all summer, every summer, down
on her creaky knees, weeding cultivating and

There were family owned enterprises in Korea in the period before 1961 but the particular state
corporate alliance came into being with the regime of Park Chung Hee (1961 1979). Park modeled this
arrangement on the zaibatsu system which developed in Japan during the Meiji Era. There were
significant differences between the zaibatsu and the chaebol, the most significant of which was the
source of capital. The zaibatsu were organized around a bank for their source of capital. The chaebol
in contrast were prohibited from owning a bank. The Park regime nationalized the banks of South
Korea and could channel scarce capital to industries and firms it saw as necessary for achieving
national objectives. The government favored chaebol had special privileges and grew large. This gave
the impression of economic success for the chaebol that was not always valid. In some cases chaebol
grew not because they were profitable but merely because they could borrow vast funds. When the
international economy took a downturn these debt ridden businesses were in trouble. In 1999 one

How Does Bee Population Affect Society
Slide 1 I was inspired by the stimulus document A World without Work, by Derek Thompson. In the
document, Derek talks about the social and economic concerns with machines replacing factory
workers, but he completely ignores the environmental impact that humans make. Because of this, I
wanted to focus on an environmental issue that faces the U.S today that we as humans can help solve.
Slide 2 This lead me to the question, Should the United States stabilize the diminishing bee population
in reaction to Colony Collapse Disorder? And after my research, I have concluded that America
should actually become involved and stabilize the bee population, keeping them from going extinct.
Slide 3 Some background information that will help you further understand my argument and the topic
as a whole includes the importance of bees in our lives. Bees, and other pollinators, pollinate a third of
the world s crops that help feed multiple organisms. Every one bite of food out of three can be traced
back to involve a bee. However, the bees have been recently dying rapidly due to CCD, or Colony
Collapse Disorder. This natural disease was first recorded in 2006 in Pennsylvania by a beekeeper.
After this report, more beekeepers noticed similar occurrences of smaller colonies thus beginning the
concern over a diminishing bee population. The disease causes most bees in the colony to die off and
only leave the queen, and a few worker bees. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Immanuel Kant On Free Will
Do humans truly have free will or are their lives completely predetermined? This question of free will
has and will always remain to be a place for argument in philosophy. Many of the great philosophers
attempted to answer this question, but none did as well of a job as Immanuel Kant. He lays the basis
of his argument in his Prolegomena to any Future Metaphysics. Kant writes this prolegomena in
response to David Hume s of skepticism, and therefore, Kant is attempting to more firmly ground
metaphysics. In the introduction Kant says, I openly confess my recollection of David Hume was the
very thing which many years ago first interrupted my dogmatic slumber and gave my investigations in
the field of speculative philosophy a quite new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When broken down Kant is appealing to both his thesis and his antithesis; he is agreeing with both.
Kant agrees that humans are beings of nature and therefore they follow the rules of nature, but he also
is accepting his thesis by saying that they are free. But in the former case reason is the cause of these
laws of nature, and therefore free; in the latter, the effects follow according to mere natural laws of
sensibility (Prolegomena). Instead of rejecting the laws of nature and saying that humans are free of
all ties, he is agreeing that certain things do govern the way in which humans act. Furthermore, he
suggest that Freedom is therefore no hindrance to natural law in appearances: neither does this law
abrogate the freedom of the practical use of reason, which is connected with things in themselves, as
determining grounds (Prolegomena). Regardless of natural law humans are free and neither one
interferes with the other. His prolegomena is not the only work where Kant addresses free will. In his
work, Groundwork for the Metaphysics of Morals, Kant suggests that morality is based on the concept
of freedom. He states, A rational being must always regard himself as law giving in a realm of ends
that is possibly only through the freedom of the will, and this holds whether he belongs to the realm as
a member or as sovereign (Groundwork). Therefore mankind must

Grafting of the Bone
Bone grafting is performed to restore bone that has been lost due to injury, trauma, or disease. Injury
may cause haematoma and bleeding from adjacent structures to occur. Haematoma is clotting of blood
that occur in any specific region such as around the broken bone ends. This event is localized. Two
ends involved are proximal and distal bone end which is the medium for osteonal healing
(ossification) to occur.
Ossification is the process of bone formation that is usually beginning at particular centers in each
prospective bone and involving the activities of species osteoblasts that segregate and deposit
inorganic bone substance about themselves (Webster, 2013). To form fracture callus, hyaline cartilage
and woven bone has to be formed first. In order this to happen, chondroblasts and osteoblasts will
arise from periosteum of each ends respectively.
After that, fracture callus will undergo the process of bone subtitution, followed with endochondral
ossification, resulting in production of lamellar bone. Final remodelling of the bone is completed by
deposition of compact bone by osteoblasts in resorption pits prepared by the osteoclasts (Gaston and
Simpson, 2007). This natural osteonal healing would be done well if and only if these four
prerequisites are active.
Firstly, cells with active osteogenic potential. Secondly, medium which has active osteoconductive
matrix. Thirdly, medium with an active osteoconductive stimulus. Lastly, a mechanically active and

Welcome all! The loud speakers surrounding the room blurted, startling me. Seats were quickly being

Anatomy of a Family Law Case
Anatomy of a Family Law Case Introduction The legal aspect of the law is a creation of the society
that is meant to regulate and control the activities and relations of people. Law creates a guideline of
how to do every activity without causing infringements to the other persons. Therefore, just as all
other societal institutions, the family setting are incorporated in the law. What is a family? The family
setting is one of the oldest institutions in the world. From the time of creation, to date, it has existed
firm within the society. It has hence come to be referred to as the cornerstone of society. In definition,
there are several factors that are considered to constitute a family. It is defined as a social group within
a society that consists of one or two parents with children (Stacey, 2011). These individuals share a
common ancestry. Additionally, it can also be used to portray people who have common goals and
values and have long term commitment to each other, and they reside in the same dwelling. What
constitutes a marriage? Marriage is a social practice that existed long before legal creations and
stipulations of what a marriage is was established. This is obvious as even before the religious books
and the legal institutions were established, people used to live and have children. This process was not
done without plans, but rather within a setting that created a sense of responsibility. However, a
marriage today is defined as a consensual and contractual

Green Forest Is Easy On The Eye
Green forest is easy on the eye, it breaks the harshness of roads and buildings and adds interest to
farmland and mountain slopes. In its sanctuary birdsong and air currents play with your auditory
senses and aroma s of nectar, decayed logs and leaves fill the air.
After a long absence from New Zealand, I decided to reacquaint myself with the types of forests found
in the Land of the Long White cloud. In this article, I have based the forest communities on the
categories from The New Zealand Plant Conservation Network: Beech Forest, Podocarp/broadleaf and
Kauri Podocarp/broadleaf.
An introduction
New Zealand is in a temperate zone, located between the Antarctic Circle and the Tropic of Capricorn.
It is also in the path of the roaring forties, a strong westerly wind circling the globe, between the
latitudes of forty and fifty degrees. Etched by fiords, mountain ranges, volcanoes, plains, plateaus and
just over 15,000 kilometres of coastline, it shapes a diverse landscape.
Over time, plants have evolved and adapted to this landscape and climate. Today there are 2,418
native species of forest plants, which includes ferns and grasses. Native mosses, liverworts, hornworts
and lichens make up approximately another 3,480 plants. Most plants are evergreen with about (still
counting) 28 deciduous species.
Beech Forest
I like how a montane beech forest defines a distinct line across mountain slopes and the excitement
you feel when you emerge into the alpine zone .

The Necessity Of Careful Environmental Scanning Essay
Every successful organization uses the five management functions; but not many can compare with
the United States Armed Forces. I am currently serving in the United States Air Force and this
organization has effectively applied the five management functions, because its existence depends on
those five functions. From the initial planning to the final execution steps, we perform all five
functions in our day to day operations in flawless manners and pride ourselves in the job well done.
The Air Force is constantly engaging in the five management functions; their operations are well led,
organized, carefully planned, staffed, and constantly evaluated. I do not believe there is any
organization other than the military where you would see these five functions linking so well
coordinated. Planning
Planning is a systematic process in which managers make decisions about future activities and the key
goals that the organization will pursue. The necessity of careful environmental scanning has an
immediate impact on planning processes (Reilly, Minnick, and Baack, 2011, sec. 7.2). Making plans
for future activities is one of the Air Force s key functions; without planning its subordinate
commands would deteriorate and lose focus on mission objectives and the quality of work. In the Air
Force each career field has a different method for planning depending on the mission. I find the
planning phase in the Air Force to be very effective because it is important for employees or

The literal meaning of Whariki is the woven mat , on which everyone can stand on, it interweaves
principles and goals into different ways which each setting can develop their own particular learning
methods (Carr May, 2000, cited in Soler Miller, 2003, p63). Te Whariki assesses children in a very
different way to the EYFS in the United Kingdom. They assess children through learning stories; and
have no set goals that they must attain by the end of the curriculum. In comparison, both assessment
processes are ongoing throughout the curriculum. After researching, I am aware that the Te Whariki
curriculum and the Early Years Foundation stage are similar. They both stress the importance of
inclusion and working with families. The Te Whariki assessment process learning stories seems more
enjoyable, however the EYFS use a checklist, this can also be seen as a positive aspect because
practitioners are able to monitor the child s holistic developmental progress. Monitoring is also done

How Is Hyperbole Used In Romeo And Juliet
In Act 2 Scene 3 of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo goes to visit Friar Lawrence in his cell after meeting
Juliet and falling madly in love with her. Romeo tells him about his love for Juliet and asks him to
marry them. Friar Lawrence is shocked that Romeo has moved on so suddenly so he gives a dramatic
speech to Romeo. Shakespeare uses meaningful images, melodic diction, and dramatic hyperboles to
express the nature of love. In the following lines, Shakespeare illustrates how young and immature
men are bound to fall in and out of love in an instant. Friar Lawrence starts out by exclaiming, Jesu
Maria, what a deal of brine / Hath washed thy sallow cheeks for Rosaline! (2.3.73 74). Friar Lawrence
is extremely surprised that Romeo is able to forget ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The hyperbole used in these lines emphasize the short span of time for which it took Romeo to
transition from mourning over Rosaline to loving Juliet. In addition, Friar also mentions an old tear
that is not washed off yet (2.3.80) to continually present the quickness in which Romeo was able to
change both emotions and lovers. Romeo s love for Rosaline was so recent that a tear from when he
was crying could still be seen. Lawrence also follows up with a melodic diction with the repetition of
the th sound through If e er thou wast thyself and these woes thine, / Thou and these woes were all for
Rosaline (2.3.81 82). The th sound is usually a very long sound that can be held for a long time. Friar
uses this to symbolize how he believes that love is pleasant, and therefore should last a long time.
Previously, Romeo was so in love with Rosaline that he expressed his love for her by making her seem
like a god. He stated, The all seeing sun / Ne er saw her match since first the world begun (1.2.99
100). Through this hyperbole, Romeo emphasizes the extremity of Rosaline s beauty. However, now
he has changed his mind already, saying that Juliet is a holy shrine . When Romeo sees someone that
he likes, he immediately praises their beauty without ever questioning his own foolishness. The motif
of Romeo s foolishness is the reason that he will never be able to stay in a stable relationship.
Therefore, Romeo does not and will most likely never understand the true meaning of

Plato s Dialogue, Republic, And The Claims Of The Modern...
Philosophers are commonly viewed as useless and foolish in the modern world. Some people see
philosophers of the past as people who attempted to understand important aspects of human nature,
different ideologies, and social problems only to fail or not provide universal answers or solutions.
However, there are others who see the importance of philosophers and how they have become to
understand aspects of life and human nature before anyone else; Plato is a person who sides with the
argument that philosophers play an important role in society. In Plato s dialogue, Republic, he
attempts to discover justice and to convey the importance philosophers possess in ensuring a just
society. The main argument that will be addressed in this essay is that philosophers are useful and are
essential to guarantee a truly just city. In this paper I will use Plato s dialogue, Republic, and the
claims mentioned throughout to support and build my agreement with Plato in arguing that having
philosophers in rule ensures a just and honest society. The main question presented in, Republic is
what is justice; both in the individual and in the city. These concepts of justice need to be addressed
before determining that by having philosophers in rule, the city will be truly just. By providing Plato s

  • 2. The Effects Of Physical Abuse On Mental Illness Today, a colossal four hundred and fifty million (and growing) people in the world suffer from some form of mental illness in the world, however, only around one third of them seek any form of help (who.int World Health Report). This number was probably much lower in 1904, when this story was written, but I imagine it was also much more shameful and frightening to admit that you had a problem and needed help with all of the closer knit neighborhoods and insane asylums that have closed down over the last hundred years. While I read Paul s case, I thought of a number of things, history of physical abuse or trauma that might have made him shy away from physical contact, drug use (even one prescribed for a chronic illness or disease,) and that even a terminal illness had made him misanthropic. Nevertheless, I always came back to mental illness. The few sentences that solidified my belief were: I don t really believe that smile of his comes altogether from insolence; there s something sort of haunted about it. The boy is not strong for one Thing. There is something wrong with the fellow (Paul s Case, Willa Cather). Paul had dramatic changes in mood from one place to another, anywhere art related or the finer things in life created an intoxicating, manic state; the unremarkable had the opposite effect, he became disdainful and lethargic. Paul s delusions of grandeur, his dramatic mood and personality changes from manic to depressive, and his disposition led me to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. As I Reflect On The Process Of Writing This Rhetoric Analytic As I reflect on the process of writing this rhetoric analytic research paper on two different scholarly educational articles from different educational journals, I realize that this was the most difficult paper to write thus far. Before this class, I never knew what rhetoric analysis of a paper was and had no clue how to do it until we were granted the rhetoric worksheets. It was a challenge writing this paper because prior to the peer review, I did not choose the appropriate articles. I had two from the same journal because I did not read the directions thoroughly. Also, organizing the paper was difficult because I was not sure how to exactly write a rhetoric paper on articles. After the peer review, I received great advice on how I can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although these two articles are scholarly and educational, they do differ in conditions like the articles context, the overall purpose of the articles, and the articles exigency, or relevancy. The scholarly article, Dressed and Groomed for Success in Elementary School Student Appearance and Academic Adjustment is written by Caroline Fitzpatrick, Carolyn Cote Lussier, and Clancy Blair. This scholarly, peer reviewed article is about how instructor s negative perceptions, biases, and academic adjustments for their students can not only hinder student s potential in the classroom, but also their outlook on schools, specifically in elementary grades. The second scholarly article, Critical Race Theory and Whiteness of Teacher Education is written by Christine E. Sleeter. This article is about how teacher education can be changed by addressing the Whiteness within it and how the targeted audience can be challenged. Due to the fact that the articles are different, then the purposes for these articles differ. The purpose of the first article is to see how theory and research suggest that students academic experiences are likely to be associated with their general appearance and demeanor (Fitpatrick et al. 32). It is to inform the audience of teachers and policy makers, on how teachers are pre judging their students based off of their initial appearance and relating that to their competence at school. A plump teenager named Tracy Turnblad wants to audition for a local television dancing show, The Corny Collins Show, but her mother Edna won t let her follow her dreams of being famous. • 6. The Girl With Only Two Arms And Two Legs Literary Analysis I bet you like to be treated well. In the story, Quarta was not treated well. Her classmates were really mean t o her even though she was really nice to everybody else. The theme in the story The Girl With Only Two Arms And Two Legs By is to treat people how you would like to be treated. You can tell this is true because Quarta is very nice to everybody but nobody is nice to her. I know this because she lets anybody play One Ball, a game she introduced to her classmates. One Ball is a game that is very close to volleyball. I also know that this is the theme because Quarta helps others. Even though her classmates who had four arms and four legs are mean to Quarta because she has only two of each. This shows that she follows the golden rule even though her classmates are mean. • 7. A Report On The Air Service On Dec. 17, 1903, brothers Orville and Wilbur Wright spent over four years of constant research and design efforts beginning with a 120 foot, 12 second flight in Kitty Hawk, N.C. This was the very first flight in a heavier than air machine. Up till then people had only ever flown in balloons and gliders. Leon Delagrange was the first passenger to fly in a plane, he flew with French pilot Henri Farman from a meadow outside of Paris in 1908. Later that year Charles Furnas was the first American passenger when he flew with Orville Wright at Kitty Hawk. The first proper air service was in Florida on January 1st, 1914, a plane had been designed by Glenn Curtiss that was able to take off and land on water and could be built larger than any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another slower achievement was improving the aircraft designs, although when World War I arrived, countries soon realised the importance of aircraft and the advantage they could give. In that time the production had to increase considering the largely rising demands from governments from both sides of the Atlantic. What was the most significant of the War was the development of more powerful motors, these new motors aloud certain aircraft to reach seeps of up to 130 miles per hour. These fast speeds more than doubles the speed of original war designed aircraft, this rise in speed also aloud larger aircraft to be possible. These and other early flights were headline events, but commercial aviation was very slow to catch on with the general public, most of whom were afraid to ride in the new flying machines. Improvements in aircraft design also were slow. However, with the advent of World War I, the military value of aircraft was quickly recognized and production increased to meet the soaring demand for planes from governments on both sides of the Atlantic. Most significant was the development of more powerful motors, enabling aircraft to reach speeds of up to 130 miles per hour, more than twice the speed of pre war aircraft. This is the basis for clarification of fingerprints and has since replaced techniques for identifying people who are reluctant to admit previous arrests. The first known utilization of fingerprinting was in the fourteenth century Persia, where government authorities utilized their fingerprints, similar to how signatures are utilized today. Teachers favored Asian American students because they were perceived as bright, hard working, better prepared, and more willing to put in effort into their homework (Lee and Zhou 17). These perceptions affected the grades Asian American students would receive, extra help were offered with their coursework and college applications, and their likelihood of being placed into academic programs and competitive academic tracks. This help further the theory of stereotype promise, in which Asian American students began to see themselves the way that teachers and society sees them with the idea of Asian American Exceptionalism. People often venture out past city limits into what they perceive as wilderness to leave society behind in hopes of coming to some major life changing self realization. They believe that the wild will transform them. However, a deeper look into this fascination with wilderness reveals that urbanization, and not the wild, results in personal, and societal, transformation. For this reason, revisiting the wilderness does not create new qualities in individuals, but helps surface qualities that those individuals already possessed. Over the period of 2007 to 2012, the region has seen an increase of 60,000 hectares of irrigated farm land (Hills, 2013) due to the conversion of beef, sheep and crop farms to water intensive dairy farming. There has also been an increase of 58% in the number of dairy farms and a 31% increase in the average herd size of dairy farms (Burns, 2013). For maximum production, sufficient irrigation is required for dairy farms (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, 2000). Therefore dairying requires at least ten times more water than other farming practices (Ward McKague, 2007). Over the summer months of December, January and February, this irrigation increase would represent a decrease in the amount of stressed vegetation in the study area. How Did Giambologna Influence Michelangelo A comparison of the style between the famous Italian Renaissance Sculptors Michelangelo, Bandinelli, and Giambologna The Italian Renaissance was an explosion of the arts in Italy, not only in painting and architecture, but in sculpture as well. Over the span of about eighty years, sculpture became transcendent during this time. Sculpture style has evolved over the course of many years from something that was not just considered philosophical or just simply aesthetic, but to something that involves and combines both. Giambologna completely created a new and innovative way of sculpting works. Instead of creating static figures like Michelangelo and Bandinelli, Giambologna created intense and dramatic characters. The faces on the figures show great emotion. The Sabine woman is reaching out with a face of distress and uneasiness. The Sabine man on the bottom of the sculpture has a face filled in terror and worry for the woman being pursued above him. The Roman carrying the Sabine woman looks like he is in awe of the woman above him. This sculpture expresses great movement and has a serpentine shape, which was very similar to works from Michelangelo s later career (like Victory from 1527 28). (In the later part of Michelangelo s career he created works with a bit more action, than his earlier works). The shape of the figures makes a helix shape, and the sculpture can be seen differently from all diverse angles. There is an energetic dialogue between the three figures in this work. There are fleshy characteristics in the figures as well. The bodies of the figures are muscular and idealized but they are also naturalistic. Especially the hair on the figures look lifelike and so do the muscles which are accentuated through the contorted positions of the statues. This shows Giambologna s talent and skill in perfecting the human body with such detail and essence. Giambologna wanted to create a sense of balance within this work because without one of these figures in its place, the other figures would fall over. The sculpture also has a sense of weight because the woman appears to be heavy and the man is balancing to keep his stance, but also to lift her up. The Rape of the ... Hilton GLBAFF 301 OL Bernard Hilton Robert Weiner February 20, 2016 UMS ID: 00762747 The End of Easy Everything One of the major issues in global affairs today consists of the supply of energy and other minerals and commodities. Michael Klare in The End of Easy Everything argues that the transformation from an effortless to a more resilient resource period will be expensive. Looking at the state of the supply of energy oil and natural gas today, I tend to agree with the findings as presented by Michael Klare. Klare explores contentious issues in which easily obtained supplies are terminating. Particularly, companies that deal in such resources must turn to the more difficult methods to extract sources of oil, natural gas, and various minerals. This has led to controversial methods such as deep water oil wells, hydrofracking for natural gas and other energy sources. Also, the acid fracking for copper: which some environmentalists maintain that these methods cause environmental damage and should not be permitted. Klare argues that discovery of a natural resource, for instance, oil, result to producers seeking and exploiting the most desirable, best quality and those closest to markets. Over time, these resources become scarce, of poorer quality, harder to extract and extend into the further away area from the market hence need for discovery of other means of obtaining the resource. These types of factors range anywhere from negative to positive on a broad spectrum. For instance in Eugenia Collier s short story Marigolds , The main character Lizabeth, is surrounded by an abundance of environmental factors, as she struggles with own internal conflict of coming to terms that her reign of innocence is slowly fading away. As the story continues, Lizabeth s environmental factors are exposed, and as a result of these factors, she commits certain actions, in which she faces consequences for. The particular theme that is emitted from this short narrative, is symbolic experiences that one may experience in life, have a probability of changing aspects in our lives . This is tied in with main emphasize of exploring in the text how this particular theme is exposed by the characters, setting, and the plot of the story. During the course of the story, Marigolds are repetitively brought up in the dialogue, and the thoughts of the characters. In fact, the title of the story is Marigolds , but what might be the significance behind the title? Well for starters the main purpose of the title is a play on the symbolism that Marigolds represent, which includes passion, creativity, cruelty, grief, and jealousy. This type of symbolism is then incorporated in the main characters Lizabeth and Ms.Lottie s persona throughout the text. Evidence to support this claim is in the text it states, For some perverse reason, we children hated those Marigolds. They infuriated with the perfect ugliness of the place; they were too beautiful; they said too much; they did not make sense(Collier, Eugenia). As displayed in the quote the traits reflected upon Lizabeth s persona was jealousy. This is stated because in the quote Lizabeth rambles about the negative aspects of the marigolds and does not name one positive attribute, this is practical behavior that is associated with jealousy. The last piece of evidence to support the significance behind the title is in the text it states The old black witch woman worked on them all summer, every summer, down on her creaky knees, weeding cultivating and ... There were family owned enterprises in Korea in the period before 1961 but the particular state corporate alliance came into being with the regime of Park Chung Hee (1961 1979). Park modeled this arrangement on the zaibatsu system which developed in Japan during the Meiji Era. There were significant differences between the zaibatsu and the chaebol, the most significant of which was the source of capital. The zaibatsu were organized around a bank for their source of capital. The chaebol in contrast were prohibited from owning a bank. The Park regime nationalized the banks of South Korea and could channel scarce capital to industries and firms it saw as necessary for achieving national objectives. The government favored chaebol had special privileges and grew large. This gave the impression of economic success for the chaebol that was not always valid. • 31. How Does Bee Population Affect Society Slide 1 I was inspired by the stimulus document A World without Work, by Derek Thompson. In the document, Derek talks about the social and economic concerns with machines replacing factory workers, but he completely ignores the environmental impact that humans make. Because of this, I wanted to focus on an environmental issue that faces the U.S today that we as humans can help solve. Slide 2 This lead me to the question, Should the United States stabilize the diminishing bee population in reaction to Colony Collapse Disorder? And after my research, I have concluded that America should actually become involved and stabilize the bee population, keeping them from going extinct. Slide 3 Some background information that will help you further understand my argument and the topic as a whole includes the importance of bees in our lives. Bees, and other pollinators, pollinate a third of the world s crops that help feed multiple organisms. Every one bite of food out of three can be traced back to involve a bee. However, the bees have been recently dying rapidly due to CCD, or Colony Collapse Disorder. This natural disease was first recorded in 2006 in Pennsylvania by a beekeeper. After this report, more beekeepers noticed similar occurrences of smaller colonies thus beginning the concern over a diminishing bee population. The disease causes most bees in the colony to die off and only leave the queen, and a few worker bees. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 32. Immanuel Kant On Free Will Do humans truly have free will or are their lives completely predetermined? This question of free will has and will always remain to be a place for argument in philosophy. Many of the great philosophers attempted to answer this question, but none did as well of a job as Immanuel Kant. He lays the basis of his argument in his Prolegomena to any Future Metaphysics. Kant writes this prolegomena in response to David Hume s of skepticism, and therefore, Kant is attempting to more firmly ground metaphysics. In the introduction Kant says, I openly confess my recollection of David Hume was the very thing which many years ago first interrupted my dogmatic slumber and gave my investigations in the field of speculative philosophy a quite new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When broken down Kant is appealing to both his thesis and his antithesis; he is agreeing with both. Kant agrees that humans are beings of nature and therefore they follow the rules of nature, but he also is accepting his thesis by saying that they are free. But in the former case reason is the cause of these laws of nature, and therefore free; in the latter, the effects follow according to mere natural laws of sensibility (Prolegomena). Instead of rejecting the laws of nature and saying that humans are free of all ties, he is agreeing that certain things do govern the way in which humans act. Furthermore, he suggest that Freedom is therefore no hindrance to natural law in appearances: neither does this law abrogate the freedom of the practical use of reason, which is connected with things in themselves, as determining grounds (Prolegomena). Regardless of natural law humans are free and neither one interferes with the other. His prolegomena is not the only work where Kant addresses free will. In his work, Groundwork for the Metaphysics of Morals, Kant suggests that morality is based on the concept of freedom. He states, A rational being must always regard himself as law giving in a realm of ends that is possibly only through the freedom of the will, and this holds whether he belongs to the realm as a member or as sovereign (Groundwork). Therefore mankind must ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Grafting of the Bone Bone grafting is performed to restore bone that has been lost due to injury, trauma, or disease. Injury may cause haematoma and bleeding from adjacent structures to occur. Haematoma is clotting of blood that occur in any specific region such as around the broken bone ends. This event is localized. Two ends involved are proximal and distal bone end which is the medium for osteonal healing (ossification) to occur. Ossification is the process of bone formation that is usually beginning at particular centers in each prospective bone and involving the activities of species osteoblasts that segregate and deposit inorganic bone substance about themselves (Webster, 2013). To form fracture callus, hyaline cartilage and woven bone has to be formed first. In order this to happen, chondroblasts and osteoblasts will arise from periosteum of each ends respectively. After that, fracture callus will undergo the process of bone subtitution, followed with endochondral ossification, resulting in production of lamellar bone. Final remodelling of the bone is completed by deposition of compact bone by osteoblasts in resorption pits prepared by the osteoclasts (Gaston and Simpson, 2007). This natural osteonal healing would be done well if and only if these four prerequisites are active. Firstly, cells with active osteogenic potential. Secondly, medium which has active osteoconductive matrix. Thirdly, medium with an active osteoconductive stimulus. Lastly, a mechanically active and stable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Descriptive Essay For Lady Macbeth Welcome all! The loud speakers surrounding the room blurted, startling me. Seats were quickly being filled alongside the room by hundreds in attendance for Macbeth s coronation. James, my husband, suggested we arrive early to guarantee our seating. The room became silent as Macbeth took the coronation oath reciting each word with confidence. The crown, shining brightly, was placed upon his head by a gentleman. • 35. Anatomy of a Family Law Case Anatomy of a Family Law Case Introduction The legal aspect of the law is a creation of the society that is meant to regulate and control the activities and relations of people. Law creates a guideline of how to do every activity without causing infringements to the other persons. Therefore, just as all other societal institutions, the family setting are incorporated in the law. What is a family? The family setting is one of the oldest institutions in the world. From the time of creation, to date, it has existed firm within the society. It has hence come to be referred to as the cornerstone of society. In definition, there are several factors that are considered to constitute a family. It is defined as a social group within a society that consists of one or two parents with children (Stacey, 2011). These individuals share a common ancestry. Additionally, it can also be used to portray people who have common goals and values and have long term commitment to each other, and they reside in the same dwelling. What constitutes a marriage? Marriage is a social practice that existed long before legal creations and stipulations of what a marriage is was established. This is obvious as even before the religious books and the legal institutions were established, people used to live and have children. This process was not done without plans, but rather within a setting that created a sense of responsibility. However, a marriage today is defined as a consensual and contractual ... In its sanctuary birdsong and air currents play with your auditory senses and aroma s of nectar, decayed logs and leaves fill the air. After a long absence from New Zealand, I decided to reacquaint myself with the types of forests found in the Land of the Long White cloud. In this article, I have based the forest communities on the categories from The New Zealand Plant Conservation Network: Beech Forest, Podocarp/broadleaf and Kauri Podocarp/broadleaf. An introduction New Zealand is in a temperate zone, located between the Antarctic Circle and the Tropic of Capricorn. It is also in the path of the roaring forties, a strong westerly wind circling the globe, between the latitudes of forty and fifty degrees. Etched by fiords, mountain ranges, volcanoes, plains, plateaus and just over 15,000 kilometres of coastline, it shapes a diverse landscape. Over time, plants have evolved and adapted to this landscape and climate. Today there are 2,418 native species of forest plants, which includes ferns and grasses. Native mosses, liverworts, hornworts and lichens make up approximately another 3,480 plants. Most plants are evergreen with about (still counting) 28 deciduous species. • 37. The Necessity Of Careful Environmental Scanning Essay Every successful organization uses the five management functions; but not many can compare with the United States Armed Forces. I am currently serving in the United States Air Force and this organization has effectively applied the five management functions, because its existence depends on those five functions. From the initial planning to the final execution steps, we perform all five functions in our day to day operations in flawless manners and pride ourselves in the job well done. The Air Force is constantly engaging in the five management functions; their operations are well led, organized, carefully planned, staffed, and constantly evaluated. I do not believe there is any organization other than the military where you would see these five functions linking so well coordinated. Planning Planning is a systematic process in which managers make decisions about future activities and the key goals that the organization will pursue. The necessity of careful environmental scanning has an immediate impact on planning processes (Reilly, Minnick, and Baack, 2011, sec. 7.2). Making plans for future activities is one of the Air Force s key functions; without planning its subordinate commands would deteriorate and lose focus on mission objectives and the quality of work. The literal meaning of Whariki is the woven mat , on which everyone can stand on, it interweaves principles and goals into different ways which each setting can develop their own particular learning methods (Carr May, 2000, cited in Soler Miller, 2003, p63). Te Whariki assesses children in a very different way to the EYFS in the United Kingdom. They assess children through learning stories; and have no set goals that they must attain by the end of the curriculum. In comparison, both assessment processes are ongoing throughout the curriculum. After researching, I am aware that the Te Whariki curriculum and the Early Years Foundation stage are similar. They both stress the importance of inclusion and working with families. The Te Whariki assessment process learning stories seems more enjoyable, however the EYFS use a checklist, this can also be seen as a positive aspect because practitioners are able to monitor the child s holistic developmental progress. • 39. How Is Hyperbole Used In Romeo And Juliet In Act 2 Scene 3 of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo goes to visit Friar Lawrence in his cell after meeting Juliet and falling madly in love with her. Romeo tells him about his love for Juliet and asks him to marry them. Friar Lawrence is shocked that Romeo has moved on so suddenly so he gives a dramatic speech to Romeo. Shakespeare uses meaningful images, melodic diction, and dramatic hyperboles to express the nature of love. In the following lines, Shakespeare illustrates how young and immature men are bound to fall in and out of love in an instant. Friar Lawrence starts out by exclaiming, Jesu Maria, what a deal of brine / Hath washed thy sallow cheeks for Rosaline! (2.3.73 74). The hyperbole used in these lines emphasize the short span of time for which it took Romeo to transition from mourning over Rosaline to loving Juliet. In addition, Friar also mentions an old tear that is not washed off yet (2.3.80) to continually present the quickness in which Romeo was able to change both emotions and lovers. Romeo s love for Rosaline was so recent that a tear from when he was crying could still be seen. Lawrence also follows up with a melodic diction with the repetition of the th sound through If e er thou wast thyself and these woes thine, / Thou and these woes were all for Rosaline (2.3.81 82). The th sound is usually a very long sound that can be held for a long time. Friar uses this to symbolize how he believes that love is pleasant, and therefore should last a long time. Previously, Romeo was so in love with Rosaline that he expressed his love for her by making her seem like a god. He stated, The all seeing sun / Ne er saw her match since first the world begun (1.2.99 100). Through this hyperbole, Romeo emphasizes the extremity of Rosaline s beauty. However, now he has changed his mind already, saying that Juliet is a holy shrine . When Romeo sees someone that he likes, he immediately praises their beauty without ever questioning his own foolishness. Some people see philosophers of the past as people who attempted to understand important aspects of human nature, different ideologies, and social problems only to fail or not provide universal answers or solutions. However, there are others who see the importance of philosophers and how they have become to understand aspects of life and human nature before anyone else; Plato is a person who sides with the argument that philosophers play an important role in society. In Plato s dialogue, Republic, he attempts to discover justice and to convey the importance philosophers possess in ensuring a just society. The main argument that will be addressed in this essay is that philosophers are useful and are essential to guarantee a truly just city. In this paper I will use Plato s dialogue, Republic, and the claims mentioned throughout to support and build my agreement with Plato in arguing that having philosophers in rule ensures a just and honest society. The main question presented in, Republic is what is justice; both in the individual and in the city. These concepts of justice need to be addressed before determining that by having philosophers in rule, the city will be truly just. By providing Plato s definition of justice in the individual and the city it will be easier to understand why philosophers are the only people who understand justice and how to implement it into a society.
