Economic Globalization And Its Impact On Society
Economic globalization has progressed significantly around the globe. First world republics have
evolved due to economics, while possessing economical supremacy over the poor. Developing
technologies, social interactions and the exchange of ideas knowledge promote the expansion of
economical impacts on societies. With growing competition between nations, the world of economics
is seen at every corner. Sources of economic globalization, such as market economies, control every
aspect of a consumer s life, including their wants and needs. Production occurring in industrialized
factories determine the needs and survival of consumers. The growing impact westernization has on
demand, heavily influences the day to day consumer and their investments. Historically, industrial
revolution was one of the major factors which drove economic globalization. From Britain being the
first nation to industrialize, countries around the globe began to discern the economic benefits and
opportunities it brought. So, began the era of industrialization and a new chapter of economies. In
roughly early 1900s, Canada began to encounter economic evolution. Changes in technology and
agriculture enabled the productizing of large scale farming and mass manufacturing, which resulted in
new means of transportation like the railway and canals. One of the most important invention was the
steam engine which was used to power transportation such as railways, ships, and factory machinery.

Different Types Of Electric Motors Essay
Introduction Due to the rising awareness of using green energy, applications of electric motors are
expanding widely in motor industry, and different types of electric motors are used in all kinds of
applications, such as, the public transportation, electric vehicles, and mechanical fans. Because of the
variety of working conditions in distinct application usages, engineers are developing various control
theories to meet specific requirements based on different types of power system and motor. Generally,
an electric motor is a machine which can transform electrical energy into mechanical energy.
According to the power system, we can separate electric current flow into two classifications which
are Direct Current (DC) and Alternating Current (AC) . DC and AC are two different forms of electric
current flow, and they are provided and stored in different ways. For example, direct current can be
provided by batteries or power supplies, and alternating current can be provided by sockets or
generators. Based on using different types of power systems, there are two general categories of
electric motors which are DC motors and AC motors. In addition, there are many different structures
and functions of stators and rotors in the motor, so engineers develop different control theories to fit
specific working situations. This paper is going to explain three control techniques in three aspects,
illustrating how they work, exploring their advantages and disadvantages, and their

Ilan Pappe s Definition Of Ethnic Cleansing
Israel successfully fought off the pan Arab army while other Israeli combatants terrorized and
depopulated the countryside. Ilan Pappe termed the depopulation of Palestinians as ethnic cleansing
but can this phrase be properly used when discussing the events of 1947 1948? To answer this
question one must determine if there is a well established definition of the phrase ethnic cleansing and
also establish that this was the intent of the Zionists, both initially and subsequently. This can be
determined by examining Zionist policy and action previous to the U.N partition plan and after, which
will demonstrate that the term is appropriately applied to the situation by Pappe.
The United Nations defines ethnic cleansing as; The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first English use of the phrase was used by Donald Forbes, a Reuters reporter, who was quoting
Croatia s Supreme Council: The aim of this expulsion is obviously the ethnic cleansing of the critical
areas . . . to be annexed to Serbia (New York Times). The phrase is used later to define events in
Serbia where Slobodan Milosevic, known as the Butcher of the Balkans, would level cities, mass
murder, and rape the local populations of Croatians which created 2 million refugees (CNN). Again,
the tactics are all too similar to those used by Israel to drive out the Arab peoples. Moreover, the term
is used today describe most cases of expulsion, imprisonment, or killing of an ethnic minority by a
dominant majority. It doesn t matter what definition you use or what other historical examples you use
to define the phrase because it doesn t change the main purpose of Pappe s book, which is, to
demonstrate that the Arabs were forcibly removed from Palestine using violent and non violent means
(Pappe 2). Pappe documents the events that led to the mass expulsion of Palestinians from their lands,
beginning with the Zionist vision from the partition plan, forward. Also, Pappe uses oral history to fill
the gaps in the Palestinians narrative, along with military archives, and Ben Gurion s diary. The
Jewish National Fund contained files that were used to systematically eliminate Arab villages, and

The Things They Carried By Jonathan Culler
Throughout history, it has been said that two or more sides exist to every story. In Literary Theory: A
Brief Introduction by Jonathan Culler, this concept is further examined, with Culler stratifying
literature into two distinct types of language, performative and constative. While constative language
draws upon factual or literal interpretations, performative language deals more so with embellishment
or the expression of details as they seem. In a similar manner, author Tim O Brien coins the term story
truth , a derivative of real truth , within his novel The Things They Carried, to discuss how retellings
of wartime events are often altered to convey the emotional significance they possess. It is through
these two works, Culler s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though The Things They Carried is largely a retelling of personal experiences during the Vietnam
War, there exists another key element of the work, a self referential sector in which O Brien
establishes a, not always, clear dichotomy between what is true and what is true for the context of a
story. This story truth is a revelation, a telling aspect that modifies the supposed truth into an amalgam
of mental and emotional based reactions, a lens through which the factual is warped into the fictional.
Therefore, these instances when O Brien leans upon story truth become incredibly important as
readers are able to gain insight into the psyche of the storyteller, how they view the world and how
they cope with the events of the war.
In this sense, Culler s performative language and O Brien s story truth are inseparable, serving as two
means to the same end goal; through performative language, O Brien embraces the fictitious and
reforms what is true into story truth as a means to express their magnitude.
On The Rainy River is one of the first instances in which O Brien s referential, or reflective, nature is
revealed as he begins the chapter explaining that the events he will describe he has never told another
individual. With this in mind, the emotional significance is already apparent, as the character Tim is
being vulnerable, unraveling his heart for all to

Analysis Of The Novel One Nation By Dr. Ben Carson
I chose to read the novel One Nation by Dr. Ben Carson .It showcases Ben Carson s life and
achievements. It also showcases his political and social views about the government. Dr. Benjamin
Solomon Carson Sr. is a world renowned neurosurgeon. He was born in Detroit, Michigan. He
attended Yale and earned a Bachelor s of Arts degree for Psychology (Benjamin Carson Biography
par.17). He acquired a M.D. from the University of Michigan for neuroscience. Also, he completed his
residency at John Hopkins Hospital, in Baltimore, Maryland. He was employed at John Hopkins
where he worked his way up to being the director of his department. He is known for the separation of
conjoined twins. This took 22 hours and a team of over 70 people. Ben Carson has a wife and three
sons. He met his wife while he is attending Yale (Benjamin Carson Biography par.22). He has been
awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom and Ford s Theatre Lincoln Medal. A few of the books
that he has written include Think Big, One Nation, America the Beautiful, The Big Picture, and Take

Putting It Together
Now, we can put this all together. I am research nurse for the Trinity Health Care System. We have an
angioplasty registry which allows us to do angioplasties until our open heart facility is built. The
registry is for both elective and urgent cases. Recently, we had a patient that came in through the
emergency room and he was having an acute myocardial infract and none of us was prepared for what
we encountered. We stayed focused and we worked through the problem as a team and we were able
to save someone s life. The heart team was paged. We furiously ran down the hallway to talk to the
patient. The only problem was we couldn t understand him. He was Hindu. We frantically asked for a
Hindi interrupter. We have a telecommunication device that allows us to communicate in almost every
language. The only down fall, is you need to know what language you need prior to asking for an
online translator. The Hindi interrupter came up on the screen and started speaking to the patient
telling him that we needed to take him to the Catherization Lab and an emergency angioplasty. The
interrupter looked at us and said this man does not speak Hindi. One cannot assume that a Hindu
speaks Hindi. The interpreter told us that Hindu s can speak several different languages including
Tamil, Hindi, Nepali, and
Punjabi. There are up to

Language Identification of Individual Words with Joint...
Within a multilingual automatic speech recognition (ASR) system, knowledge of the language of
origin of unknown words can improve pronunciation modelling accuracy. This is of particular
importance for ASR systems required to deal with code switched speech or proper names of foreign
origin. For words that occur in the language model, but do not occur in the pronunciation lexicon, text
based language identification (T LID) of a single word in isolation may be required. This is a
challenging task, especially for short words. We motivate for the importance of accurate T LID in
speech processing systems and introduce a novel way of applying Joint Sequence Models to the T LID
task. We obtain competitive results on a real world 4 language task: for our best JSM system, an F1
value of 97.2% is obtained, compared to a F1 value of 95.2% obtained with a state of the art Support
Vector Machine (SVM). Words, phrases and names are often used across language boundaries in
multilingual settings. Especially for minority languages, such {it code switching} with a dominant
language can become an intrinsic part of the language itself~cite{modipaimplications}. Automatic
speech recognition (ASR) systems are required to deal with various types of words of foreign origin.
For example: automated call routing systems or voice driven navigation systems often process proper
names and foreign words that tend to have pronunciations that are difficult to
predict~cite{reveil2010improving}. These

The first day was my favorite, I went to my art instructor and I saw a girl already by the teacher, and
there was about 7 kids in that class, so it was real easy to make friends. We started talking and I found
out she was from Paris. She was really nice and funny, and we had a lot in common too! She taught
me a few things in French as well. There were two kids from Russia, California, Paris, and North

Analysis Of Queen Gertrude
People are rarely who you think they are, but you are typically not as far off as Queen Gertrude. In the
play Hamlet by William Shakespeare, Queen Gertrude marries her husbands brother when her
husband dies. As if this was not weird enough, The late king s brother Claudius, whom she marries
also happens to be the one who killed her husband. Now he son Hamlet is enraged that she has
married so soon after the death of her husband, and then the ghost of his father appears to tell him the
truth, From the ghost Hamlet learns that Claudius killed King Hamlet and took his crown and queen,
but the play never says how informed Gertrude was. However, throughout the play there are many
pieces of evidence that prove that Queen Gertrude did not know about the murder of King Hamlet. An
easy way to tell that Queen Gertrude is innocent is that the ghost of King Hamlet told Hamlet not to
get revenge on her. When the ghost first appears to Hamlet he explains to him that he was murdered
by his own brother, and that he wants vengeance. However, the ghost makes it clear that the only
revenge he wants is on Claudius, and even specifies that Hamlet is to leave his mother alone by saying
Taint not thy mind, nor let thy soul contrive/ Against thy mother aught. Leave her to heaven. By
saying this the ghost is making sure that Hamlet knows that he doesn t want revenge on his mother for
marrying this murderous man. Instead he simply wants revenge on the one who was responsible, so if
Gertrude had been involved he would have wanted revenge on her as well. Since the ghost specifies to
leave Gertrude alone, it can be inferred that she did not know that the death of King Hamlet was a
murder, or who was responsible. Another way to tell that Gertrude is clueless about the murder of
King Hamlet is her response to mentions of it. While Gertrude and Hamlet are arguing in her room,
Hamlet makes remarks about what has happened and she seems genuinely confused and shocked. For
example when she says how horrible of a thing it was for Hamlet to kill Polonius and he asks if it is as
bad as killing a king, to which she responds As kill a king? (III.IV.31) If she had known about the
murder she would have tried to defend it or protect herself.

How Of The Second Amendment
How to Interpret the Second Amendment The Constitution was signed on September 17, 1789. The
federalists declared that the Constitution granted the new government limited powers. Anti federalists,
such as George Mason, sought after a stronger confirmation from the federal government that certain
rights would not be encroached upon. After just recently breaking away from Great Britain, it is
understandable that the Founding Fathers feared the rise of another domineering government. Mason
wrote, A well regulated militia, composed of the body of the people, trained to arms, is the proper,
natural and safe defense of a free state. If the government had the jurisdiction over citizen s right to
use firearms, then it could disarm them as the British had once done. This led to the creation of the
Second Amendment of the US Constitution, which reads, A well regulated Militia, being necessary to
the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. Fast
forward to present day; our nation is currently in the core of a large controversy over gun control laws
and the meaning of the Second Amendment. The Second Amendment is one of the first ten
amendments to the US Constitution that make up the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights was adopted in
1791 and has since been known as one of the nation s most valued documents. The Bill of Rights is of
great significance to our country because it protects our individual liberties

Existentialism In Shakespeare s Hamlet And Rosencrantz And...
It is human nature to question the meaning of life and for the individual to question their own purpose.
The phrase fate or free will often comes up when questioning ones purpose in life. Is life
predetermined and the individual has no control? Or rather can the individual take charge and choose
their own path in life. Existentialists believe that humans are born first and that life is meaningless
until the individual defines their own purpose. It is the belief that one s existence precedes one s
essence. In both the late 16th century play Hamlet and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (a play
within a play based on Hamlet) ideas of existentialism are explored. The later play builds upon the
ideals developed in Hamlet and confirms that Hamlet is indeed an existential play. This is evident as
the main characters Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are more object like than human and can therefore
be considered existential objects, which then forces readers to look at Hamlet as an existential hero.
This is because Rosencrantz and Guildenstern exist only in the present and lack free will, in contrast
to Hamlet. Both Rosencrantz and Guildenstern question the absurdity of life and death and what it all
means, much like how Hamlet explored the absurd. Tom Stoppard meticulously crafted the two minor
characters in Shakespeare s Hamlet and put them center stage in his own play and gave them
existential object qualities, which was contrast to Hamlet s character and confirms the idea

Analyzing Paul Walker s Obituary
My Obituary Analysis
When I think about the qualities of an effective obituary, three things come to mind. The obituary is
bound to be a factual notice of death that includes all the basics about the person: their birth date,
death date, home town, parents, children, and information about their career. This is the framework
that makes up an obituary and is the most significant portion of it. Secondly, it is imperative that the
obituary lists the person s major achievements in life. Lastly, the obituary should conform to its
audience. The families of the deceased benefit from a kind portrayal of their loved one with highlights
from their life. In contrast, a stranger reading it would be more entertained by the obituary if it was
blunt when talking about the person s life. Therefore, an obituary writer should find a balance between
discussing the person s successes and failures. Paul Walker s obituary is effective because it is factual
and portrays his accomplishments. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, it describes Walker as slim, slick and blue eyed (Gilbey 1). The obituary provides a
detailed description of his roles in the Fast and Furious movies and includes quotes from him on what
he thought about making the movies. This allows readers that did not know him as well to get a
glimpse of what it was like for him to star in one of the most popular movie series to date. In short,
Walker s obituary connects readers to what his life was like.
Furthermore, the obituary discusses Walker s major achievements in his acting career. He appeared in
TV shows in the 90 s, but the wildly popular Fast and Furious movies are what launched his career. As
the obituary states, Though he had shown promise in his early film roles, he could easily have become
just another piece of well dressed eye candy had it not been for his involvement in the colossally
successful Fast and Furious franchise, which has grossed $2.38bn worldwide to date (Gilbey

The Chinese National Of Chinese Movies
The Chinese National in Chinese Movies
The essential theme of National has been virtually reflected in a greater percentage of Chinese film
and a number of propositions have been put forward to back up this trend. Probably due to the
political history that has patterned China right from the empirical and feuding lord epochs to the now
predominant nation state mechanism of government. Thanks to the Han Dynasty that had a precursor
vision of unifying China as one people; probably the earliest of enthusiast to envision the Chinese
people as people from one fabric. Chinese film, even though can logically be differentiated from

Six Social Classes
As I ponder on my thoughts about what wealth, status, and power means in our society, I think about
the six social classes that typically define us as individuals: Upper Class, New Money, Middle Class,
Working Class, Working Poor, and Poverty Level. Personally, I would not place myself in any of the
six social stratifications listed above. However, I do not determine which class I fall under, society
does. Overall, society determines our wealth, status, and power based on the wealth, status, and power
we were brought into. I was raised by a single mother, with little education, who continues to
physically and mentally exhaust herself at work every day in order to provide money for the bills,
food on the table, and our other needs. Both my

Women s Rights And Gender Equality Essay
At first glance, the words feminism, veganism, and locavorism may induce many different thoughts
and images. One might think of a celebrity, a stereotype, a character trait, or a group of specifically
similar people associated with each word. For some, these three words may not even bring anything or
anyone significant to mind. But no matter what thoughts arise through them, all three of these words
represent an ideology, and two of them commonly have to do with diet. Feminism, or the advocacy of
women s rights and gender equality, and veganism, or the lifestyle and diet of avoiding animal
products, are widely known and decently popular. However, locavorism, which is the lifestyle and diet
of purchasing and eating locally and sustainably grown food in order to help the environment and be
healthy, is more of a modern concept that was not always relevant or present in American society. In
fact, it only became popular in the past decade (Rudy, 2012, p. 27).
Nonetheless, the point still stands that feminism, veganism, and locavorism may not seem to have any
connections aside from the fact that they are indeed all ideologies and they share a suffix. However,
when observed on a deeper level, it is discovered that the widely held feminist views of gender and
socioeconomic equality coincide with the views of vegans that also focus on equality for beings
thought to be inferior. Even further, feminist views pertaining to the equitable distribution of food and
positive treatment of

Characteristics Of Veristic Surrealism
Surrealism As the world began healing from World War I, modern artists decided to listen to their
subconscious minds. Surrealism was a new style of art that formed from Dadaism. The leader of
surrealism, André Breton, believed that because surrealism required unique thoughts, it showed an
active mind. Not only is surrealism found in art, it is also found in theater, literature, philosophy, and
politics. The creation of surrealism is achieved by abstract or realistic images that may be bursting
with voice or cold and impersonal. Bending the principles of design to give new feelings could create
this feeling. After World War I, European artists explored their unconscious minds to create
compositions that challenged common beliefs of artistic and emotional expression. Surrealism can be
difficult to categorize due to the differences in styles and methods of creation. The two main
surrealism techniques, automatism and veristic surrealism, are shown by various views of the
conscious and unconscious. The focus of automatism is feelings. The emphasis of theses artists is less
analytical. They think of their art as a way to connect the subconscious to the conscious. This usually
results in a lack of form. Veristic surrealism is a way to link spiritual realities to the material world.
They used objects as metaphors to show inner reality and to understand the real world. Dadaism was
the style that later morphed into surrealism. It was a coping mechanism after World War I. The Dada

Analysis Of The First Day Of Senior Year For Dinah Jane
This was the first day of senior year for Dinah Jane. The familiar smell of the blossom tree by the

she deeply cared for. She was satisfied with her class schedule or more so excited. She started
skipping her way to first period: Poetry. There was no doubt she was a really good writer. It was her
favorite pastime when she was alone. She hated feeling alone, but the creation of fictional characters
made her feel as if she wasn t alone at all. She had never taken a poetry class before and she didn t

An Ethical Will Over a Monetary or Property Will
In todays world an Ethical Will seems almost foreign to many people. A monetary or property Will is a
type of Will that people are most familiar with. This deals with ones property being distributed to a
younger generation upon or near death.2 The encyclopedia Judaica defines a Will as a, person s
disposition of his property in favor of another in such manner that the testator retains the property or
his rights to it until his death. 5(page65) Some may be unaware that there are different types of
monetary Wills. The first is called a Mattenat Bari, which means, gift by a healthy person. 5 (page 65)
The second type is called a Mattenat Shekhiv, a gift by a person critically ill. 5 (pg65) The last type is
called an Mezavveh ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Will would normally speak of following Jewish laws and Jewish ideals. The Ten Commandments
are sometimes stressed on their own since they are important for Jewish law. Jewish Ethical Wills
preach to protect the Torah, and keep the land of Israel safe. Also a Jewish Ethical Will usually says
one should be a responsible Jewish person who is charitable, respectful, hardworking, and continues to
study Judaism. 7
Ethical Wills are such an important piece in Judaism that they appear in the Talmud and Bible a
numerous amount of times. The first recorded Ethical Will is in chapter 49 of Genesis in the Bible.
This Will was about Jacob speaking to his kids before his death. After blessing each child, he spoke of
the missions and destinies of each child. He based what he said on the skills and talents that each child
possessed. Everything Jacob said wasn t easy to hear but he said what he wanted his kids to know. It is
actually said that Jacob was the first to get sick before dying giving him a chance to say his last words
to loved ones. Jacob actually prayed that people would become sick like he did so they could have this
opportunity since most people were healthy until the day they died in this time period. Jacob wanted
people to have the chance to give their children an Ethical Will.9
In chapters 33 and 34 of Deuteronomy, another Ethical Will is written about Moses. Before Moses
died, he offered

Abstract: Digital multipliers are along with the majority critical arithmetic functional units. The
general performance of the Digital multiplier systems depends on throughput of the multiplier. The
negative bias temperature instability effect occurs when a pMOS transistor is under negative bias (Vgs
= −Vdd), increasing the threshold voltage of a pMOS transistor and falling the multiplier speed. In the
same way, positive bias temperature instability occurs when an nMOS transistor is under positive bias.
Both effects degrade the speed of the transistor and in the long term, the system may be fail due to
timing violations. For that reason, it is required to design reliable high performance multipliers. In this
paper, we implement an aging aware multiplier design with a novel adaptive hold logic (AHL) circuit.
The multiplier is able to provide the higher throughput through the variable latency and can adjust the

Lao Tzu Beliefs
2. Lao tzu s focus is more on collective peace than individual happiness. He believes that peace can be
achieved when the people are content. Lao tzu writes with some inclination of humanism. He believes
that people have inborn goodness, and he writes that citizens will act trustworthy when their leader
treats them that way. If they feel restricted, or believe they are being cheated, they will act out and
attempt to change their situation. Lao tzu explains that people function best under a wise, distant ruler,
and he believes that a peaceful society is one where the people are happy. If people stop looking at the
world with hope that it will change and start to appreciate what it really is, their simple lives will start
to bring them more joy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Tao te Ching, Lao tzu recognizes the need for military action, but supports it only to a limited
extent. His belief is that a good ruler will avoid war unless it is necessary. This ruler will engage in
battle only if it is to protect his people; he will feel sorry for his enemy and for the situation. An ideal
leader would never be able to rejoice after a victory, because the death of an enemy is still a tragedy.
Lao tzu believes that violence will always be followed by violence, and that the act of war itself is not
virtuous. He believes that it is ideal to have no enemies. Compromise is often favorable to violence. A
war is only as good as the intentions behind fighting it. When leaders start wars with selfish motives,
they are resisting the natural order of the universe. If people act in accordance with the Tao, they will
find that violence is less frequent in their lives. Lao tzu is morally opposed to war, and he would
prefer a world without it. He is practical, however, and believes that a leader should do what is
necessary to protect the

I feel that my goals were met in both expected and unforeseen ways. First, the readings informed my
design choices how specifically I wanted to move my audience and what tactics and strategies I
needed to use to get them there. The Chris Dede article, Vignettes about the Future of Learning
Technologies, helped me conceptualize how people would use mobile technology, and how using a
handheld device could change the way a person interacts with space and receives information. I also
used the case study, What I Learned Doing a Multimedia Project on the French Revolution, to see how
another designer thought through her project, and handled financial and time constraints. The readings
on being culturally sensitive, and including other viewpoints into one s work, helped me think about
how to incorporate diverse perspectives in my project, and encouraged me to believe in my original
goal of including multiple points of view. I also enjoyed applying the strategies that Hampe illustrates
in his documentary guide to design projects outside of the class. For example, I used his section on
interview techniques to help me with the interviews I conducted for a documentary on a group of Blue
Hill, Maine residents who had made a Super 8 film when they were in high school.

What Is The Theme Of The Guest By Albert Camus
The Guest by Albert Camus The Guest is a short story written by Albert Camus and first published as
a part of the collection Exile and the Kingdom in 1957. The main character of the story is a teacher in
a remote school Daru. The man was alone because of the snowfall, until gendarme Balducci with the
apprehended Arabic person appeared. Daru was asked to take prisoner to a nearby town Tinguit where
he would be tried for relative s murder. The teacher did not want to take part in these events, but
Balducci still left Arab in the school. Daru did not treat the man like a prisoner. In the morning he took

Daru informed the Arab about existed choices and did not try to show him that one of them would be
more honorable than the other .However, the teacher wished the man to stay away from French
officials. Daru with heavy heart made out the Arab walking slowly on the road to prison (Camus 11).
Words with heavy heart highlighted the man wanted Arab to choose the road to nomads. The sentence
could show that Daru was more on Algerian than the French side in the conflict in spite of his
pursuance of neutrality. Teacher s attitude was highlighted by the Arab s behavior. Daru treated
apprehended man as a guest, not a prisoner, but the man could deny his hospitality or even kill the
teacher as a roadblock on the way to freedom. However, the Arab did not hurt Daru, accepted his food
and beverages. This behavior can be treated as a sign of political solidarity, the food symbolizing the
exchange of life between them (Bernardo). Arab s decision to go to the police headquarters in Tinguit,
and the fact he did not try to hurt Daru, showed the man was not really a bad person; and the murder
he committed could be a result of emotions or misunderstanding. These suggestions make readers to
support Daru s decision to give the Arab an opportunity to choose his fate by himself, and not make a
man a subject of a travesty of a trial (Bernardo). While the teacher did not want to have an impact on
people s fate, his

voracious prodigality with material not his own (184). Prodigality means wastefully extravagant, so
Abner tends to lust after lavish items or an lavish lifestyle that he can not obtain. If anything, some of
the better items he have are stolen (184). He can not afford his own horses; most of them are what he
calls, captured horses which are actually stolen from both Confederate and Union armies during the
Civil War (184). Abner also makes shrewd fires instead of making bigger ones as he does with the

The Revolving Door

¬¬¬¬¬The Effects of the Revolving Door
For five years, Mr. Larry Lavender served as the chief of staff for Representative Spencer Bachus on
the House Financial Services Committee. In 2012, Lavender was recruited by a law firm representing
JPMorgan, a banking and financial institution, and left the committee. Although this move disbanded
his professional link to Bachus, the two still maintained a personal relationship, and Lavender also
communicated with former colleagues without seeking any official favors or actions (Revolving
Door). Because of the relationship between Lavender and Bachus and through efforts made behind the
scenes, JPMorgan avoided testifying against one of their clients in the House of Representatives. This
sequence of events illustrates what is referred to as the revolving door , which is a system that shuffles
former federal employees into jobs as lobbyists, consultants and strategists . In this system, former
public office holders become lobbyists because they already have relationships with people they have
worked with or for in the past. Within the practice, there has been evidence of corruption through the
manipulation of bans and the undermining use of professional interactions. The spinning of the
revolving door prompts government officials to make laws that reflect the preferences of industry
lobbies rather than the will of the people As the revolving door continues to spin more

  • 2. Economic Globalization And Its Impact On Society Economic globalization has progressed significantly around the globe. First world republics have evolved due to economics, while possessing economical supremacy over the poor. Developing technologies, social interactions and the exchange of ideas knowledge promote the expansion of economical impacts on societies. With growing competition between nations, the world of economics is seen at every corner. Sources of economic globalization, such as market economies, control every aspect of a consumer s life, including their wants and needs. Production occurring in industrialized factories determine the needs and survival of consumers. The growing impact westernization has on demand, heavily influences the day to day consumer and their investments. Historically, industrial revolution was one of the major factors which drove economic globalization. From Britain being the first nation to industrialize, countries around the globe began to discern the economic benefits and opportunities it brought. So, began the era of industrialization and a new chapter of economies. In roughly early 1900s, Canada began to encounter economic evolution. Changes in technology and agriculture enabled the productizing of large scale farming and mass manufacturing, which resulted in new means of transportation like the railway and canals. One of the most important invention was the steam engine which was used to power transportation such as railways, ships, and factory machinery. As industrialization ... • 3. Different Types Of Electric Motors Essay Introduction Due to the rising awareness of using green energy, applications of electric motors are expanding widely in motor industry, and different types of electric motors are used in all kinds of applications, such as, the public transportation, electric vehicles, and mechanical fans. Because of the variety of working conditions in distinct application usages, engineers are developing various control theories to meet specific requirements based on different types of power system and motor. Generally, an electric motor is a machine which can transform electrical energy into mechanical energy. According to the power system, we can separate electric current flow into two classifications which are Direct Current (DC) and Alternating Current (AC) . DC and AC are two different forms of electric current flow, and they are provided and stored in different ways. For example, direct current can be provided by batteries or power supplies, and alternating current can be provided by sockets or generators. Based on using different types of power systems, there are two general categories of electric motors which are DC motors and AC motors. In addition, there are many different structures and functions of stators and rotors in the motor, so engineers develop different control theories to fit specific working situations. This paper is going to explain three control techniques in three aspects, illustrating how they work, exploring their advantages and disadvantages, and their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Ilan Pappe s Definition Of Ethnic Cleansing Israel successfully fought off the pan Arab army while other Israeli combatants terrorized and depopulated the countryside. Ilan Pappe termed the depopulation of Palestinians as ethnic cleansing but can this phrase be properly used when discussing the events of 1947 1948? To answer this question one must determine if there is a well established definition of the phrase ethnic cleansing and also establish that this was the intent of the Zionists, both initially and subsequently. This can be determined by examining Zionist policy and action previous to the U.N partition plan and after, which will demonstrate that the term is appropriately applied to the situation by Pappe. The United Nations defines ethnic cleansing as; The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first English use of the phrase was used by Donald Forbes, a Reuters reporter, who was quoting Croatia s Supreme Council: The aim of this expulsion is obviously the ethnic cleansing of the critical areas . . . to be annexed to Serbia (New York Times). The phrase is used later to define events in Serbia where Slobodan Milosevic, known as the Butcher of the Balkans, would level cities, mass murder, and rape the local populations of Croatians which created 2 million refugees (CNN). Again, the tactics are all too similar to those used by Israel to drive out the Arab peoples. Moreover, the term is used today describe most cases of expulsion, imprisonment, or killing of an ethnic minority by a dominant majority. It doesn t matter what definition you use or what other historical examples you use to define the phrase because it doesn t change the main purpose of Pappe s book, which is, to demonstrate that the Arabs were forcibly removed from Palestine using violent and non violent means (Pappe 2). Pappe documents the events that led to the mass expulsion of Palestinians from their lands, beginning with the Zionist vision from the partition plan, forward. Also, Pappe uses oral history to fill the gaps in the Palestinians narrative, along with military archives, and Ben Gurion s diary. The Jewish National Fund contained files that were used to systematically eliminate Arab villages, and Plan D provides the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Things They Carried By Jonathan Culler Throughout history, it has been said that two or more sides exist to every story. In Literary Theory: A Brief Introduction by Jonathan Culler, this concept is further examined, with Culler stratifying literature into two distinct types of language, performative and constative. While constative language draws upon factual or literal interpretations, performative language deals more so with embellishment or the expression of details as they seem. In a similar manner, author Tim O Brien coins the term story truth , a derivative of real truth , within his novel The Things They Carried, to discuss how retellings of wartime events are often altered to convey the emotional significance they possess. It is through these two works, Culler s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though The Things They Carried is largely a retelling of personal experiences during the Vietnam War, there exists another key element of the work, a self referential sector in which O Brien establishes a, not always, clear dichotomy between what is true and what is true for the context of a story. This story truth is a revelation, a telling aspect that modifies the supposed truth into an amalgam of mental and emotional based reactions, a lens through which the factual is warped into the fictional. Therefore, these instances when O Brien leans upon story truth become incredibly important as readers are able to gain insight into the psyche of the storyteller, how they view the world and how they cope with the events of the war. In this sense, Culler s performative language and O Brien s story truth are inseparable, serving as two means to the same end goal; through performative language, O Brien embraces the fictitious and reforms what is true into story truth as a means to express their magnitude. On The Rainy River is one of the first instances in which O Brien s referential, or reflective, nature is revealed as he begins the chapter explaining that the events he will describe he has never told another individual. With this in mind, the emotional significance is already apparent, as the character Tim is being vulnerable, unraveling his heart for all to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Language Identification of Individual Words with Joint... Within a multilingual automatic speech recognition (ASR) system, knowledge of the language of origin of unknown words can improve pronunciation modelling accuracy. This is of particular importance for ASR systems required to deal with code switched speech or proper names of foreign origin. For words that occur in the language model, but do not occur in the pronunciation lexicon, text based language identification (T LID) of a single word in isolation may be required. This is a challenging task, especially for short words. We motivate for the importance of accurate T LID in speech processing systems and introduce a novel way of applying Joint Sequence Models to the T LID task. We obtain competitive results on a real world 4 language task: for our best JSM system, an F1 value of 97.2% is obtained, compared to a F1 value of 95.2% obtained with a state of the art Support Vector Machine (SVM). Words, phrases and names are often used across language boundaries in multilingual settings. Especially for minority languages, such {it code switching} with a dominant language can become an intrinsic part of the language itself~cite{modipaimplications}. Automatic speech recognition (ASR) systems are required to deal with various types of words of foreign origin. For example: automated call routing systems or voice driven navigation systems often process proper names and foreign words that tend to have pronunciations that are difficult to predict~cite{reveil2010improving}. • 16. Analysis Of Queen Gertrude People are rarely who you think they are, but you are typically not as far off as Queen Gertrude. In the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare, Queen Gertrude marries her husbands brother when her husband dies. As if this was not weird enough, The late king s brother Claudius, whom she marries also happens to be the one who killed her husband. Now he son Hamlet is enraged that she has married so soon after the death of her husband, and then the ghost of his father appears to tell him the truth, From the ghost Hamlet learns that Claudius killed King Hamlet and took his crown and queen, but the play never says how informed Gertrude was. However, throughout the play there are many pieces of evidence that prove that Queen Gertrude did not know about the murder of King Hamlet. An easy way to tell that Queen Gertrude is innocent is that the ghost of King Hamlet told Hamlet not to get revenge on her. When the ghost first appears to Hamlet he explains to him that he was murdered by his own brother, and that he wants vengeance. However, the ghost makes it clear that the only revenge he wants is on Claudius, and even specifies that Hamlet is to leave his mother alone by saying Taint not thy mind, nor let thy soul contrive/ Against thy mother aught. Leave her to heaven. By saying this the ghost is making sure that Hamlet knows that he doesn t want revenge on his mother for marrying this murderous man. Instead he simply wants revenge on the one who was responsible, so if Gertrude had been involved he would have wanted revenge on her as well. Since the ghost specifies to leave Gertrude alone, it can be inferred that she did not know that the death of King Hamlet was a murder, or who was responsible. Another way to tell that Gertrude is clueless about the murder of King Hamlet is her response to mentions of it. While Gertrude and Hamlet are arguing in her room, Hamlet makes remarks about what has happened and she seems genuinely confused and shocked. For example when she says how horrible of a thing it was for Hamlet to kill Polonius and he asks if it is as bad as killing a king, to which she responds As kill a king? (III.IV.31) If she had known about the murder she would have tried to defend it or protect herself. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. How Of The Second Amendment How to Interpret the Second Amendment The Constitution was signed on September 17, 1789. The federalists declared that the Constitution granted the new government limited powers. Anti federalists, such as George Mason, sought after a stronger confirmation from the federal government that certain rights would not be encroached upon. After just recently breaking away from Great Britain, it is understandable that the Founding Fathers feared the rise of another domineering government. Mason wrote, A well regulated militia, composed of the body of the people, trained to arms, is the proper, natural and safe defense of a free state. If the government had the jurisdiction over citizen s right to use firearms, then it could disarm them as the British had once done. This led to the creation of the Second Amendment of the US Constitution, which reads, A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. Fast forward to present day; our nation is currently in the core of a large controversy over gun control laws and the meaning of the Second Amendment. The Second Amendment is one of the first ten amendments to the US Constitution that make up the Bill of Rights. • 20. Existentialism In Shakespeare s Hamlet And Rosencrantz And... It is human nature to question the meaning of life and for the individual to question their own purpose. The phrase fate or free will often comes up when questioning ones purpose in life. Is life predetermined and the individual has no control? Or rather can the individual take charge and choose their own path in life. Existentialists believe that humans are born first and that life is meaningless until the individual defines their own purpose. It is the belief that one s existence precedes one s essence. In both the late 16th century play Hamlet and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (a play within a play based on Hamlet) ideas of existentialism are explored. The later play builds upon the ideals developed in Hamlet and confirms that Hamlet is indeed an existential play. This is evident as the main characters Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are more object like than human and can therefore be considered existential objects, which then forces readers to look at Hamlet as an existential hero. This is because Rosencrantz and Guildenstern exist only in the present and lack free will, in contrast to Hamlet. Both Rosencrantz and Guildenstern question the absurdity of life and death and what it all means, much like how Hamlet explored the absurd. Tom Stoppard meticulously crafted the two minor characters in Shakespeare s Hamlet and put them center stage in his own play and gave them existential object qualities, which was contrast to Hamlet s character and confirms the idea ... The obituary is bound to be a factual notice of death that includes all the basics about the person: their birth date, death date, home town, parents, children, and information about their career. This is the framework that makes up an obituary and is the most significant portion of it. Secondly, it is imperative that the obituary lists the person s major achievements in life. Lastly, the obituary should conform to its audience. The families of the deceased benefit from a kind portrayal of their loved one with highlights from their life. In contrast, a stranger reading it would be more entertained by the obituary if it was blunt when talking about the person s life. Therefore, an obituary writer should find a balance between discussing the person s successes and failures. One might think of a celebrity, a stereotype, a character trait, or a group of specifically similar people associated with each word. For some, these three words may not even bring anything or anyone significant to mind. But no matter what thoughts arise through them, all three of these words represent an ideology, and two of them commonly have to do with diet. Feminism, or the advocacy of women s rights and gender equality, and veganism, or the lifestyle and diet of avoiding animal products, are widely known and decently popular. However, locavorism, which is the lifestyle and diet of purchasing and eating locally and sustainably grown food in order to help the environment and be healthy, is more of a modern concept that was not always relevant or present in American society. In fact, it only became popular in the past decade (Rudy, 2012, p. 27). Nonetheless, the point still stands that feminism, veganism, and locavorism may not seem to have any connections aside from the fact that they are indeed all ideologies and they share a suffix. • 30. Characteristics Of Veristic Surrealism Surrealism As the world began healing from World War I, modern artists decided to listen to their subconscious minds. Surrealism was a new style of art that formed from Dadaism. The leader of surrealism, André Breton, believed that because surrealism required unique thoughts, it showed an active mind. Not only is surrealism found in art, it is also found in theater, literature, philosophy, and politics. The creation of surrealism is achieved by abstract or realistic images that may be bursting with voice or cold and impersonal. Bending the principles of design to give new feelings could create this feeling. After World War I, European artists explored their unconscious minds to create compositions that challenged common beliefs of artistic and emotional expression. Surrealism can be difficult to categorize due to the differences in styles and methods of creation. The two main surrealism techniques, automatism and veristic surrealism, are shown by various views of the conscious and unconscious. The focus of automatism is feelings. The emphasis of theses artists is less analytical. They think of their art as a way to connect the subconscious to the conscious. This usually results in a lack of form. Veristic surrealism is a way to link spiritual realities to the material world. They used objects as metaphors to show inner reality and to understand the real world. Dadaism was the style that later morphed into surrealism. It was a coping mechanism after World War I. The Dada ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Analysis Of The First Day Of Senior Year For Dinah Jane This was the first day of senior year for Dinah Jane. The familiar smell of the blossom tree by the entrance greeted her senses. The last three years had been amazing for her and she spent it with people she deeply cared for. She was satisfied with her class schedule or more so excited. She started skipping her way to first period: Poetry. There was no doubt she was a really good writer. It was her favorite pastime when she was alone. She hated feeling alone, but the creation of fictional characters made her feel as if she wasn t alone at all. She had never taken a poetry class before and she didn t know anyone who took the class. Dinah retorted to herself. Her Poetry teacher, Ms. Marks, walked into the classroom. Ms. Marks was a very cool person. She was free spirited and a professional potty mouth. A monetary or property Will is a type of Will that people are most familiar with. This deals with ones property being distributed to a younger generation upon or near death.2 The encyclopedia Judaica defines a Will as a, person s disposition of his property in favor of another in such manner that the testator retains the property or his rights to it until his death. 5(page65) Some may be unaware that there are different types of monetary Wills. The first is called a Mattenat Bari, which means, gift by a healthy person. 5 (page 65) The second type is called a Mattenat Shekhiv, a gift by a person critically ill. 5 (pg65) The last type is called an Mezavveh ... The Ten Commandments are sometimes stressed on their own since they are important for Jewish law. Jewish Ethical Wills preach to protect the Torah, and keep the land of Israel safe. The first recorded Ethical Will is in chapter 49 of Genesis in the Bible. This Will was about Jacob speaking to his kids before his death. After blessing each child, he spoke of the missions and destinies of each child. He based what he said on the skills and talents that each child possessed. Everything Jacob said wasn t easy to hear but he said what he wanted his kids to know. It is actually said that Jacob was the first to get sick before dying giving him a chance to say his last words to loved ones. Jacob actually prayed that people would become sick like he did so they could have this opportunity since most people were healthy until the day they died in this time period. Jacob wanted people to have the chance to give their children an Ethical Will.9 In chapters 33 and 34 of Deuteronomy, another Ethical Will is written about Moses. Before Moses died, he offered ... The general performance of the Digital multiplier systems depends on throughput of the multiplier. The negative bias temperature instability effect occurs when a pMOS transistor is under negative bias (Vgs = −Vdd), increasing the threshold voltage of a pMOS transistor and falling the multiplier speed. In the same way, positive bias temperature instability occurs when an nMOS transistor is under positive bias. Both effects degrade the speed of the transistor and in the long term, the system may be fail due to timing violations. For that reason, it is required to design reliable high performance multipliers. In this paper, we implement an aging aware multiplier design with a novel adaptive hold logic (AHL) circuit. The multiplier is able to provide the higher throughput through the variable latency and can adjust the adaptive hold logic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Lao Tzu Beliefs 2. Lao tzu s focus is more on collective peace than individual happiness. He believes that peace can be achieved when the people are content. Lao tzu writes with some inclination of humanism. He believes that people have inborn goodness, and he writes that citizens will act trustworthy when their leader treats them that way. If they feel restricted, or believe they are being cheated, they will act out and attempt to change their situation. Lao tzu explains that people function best under a wise, distant ruler, and he believes that a peaceful society is one where the people are happy. If people stop looking at the world with hope that it will change and start to appreciate what it really is, their simple lives will start to bring them more joy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the Tao te Ching, Lao tzu recognizes the need for military action, but supports it only to a limited extent. His belief is that a good ruler will avoid war unless it is necessary. This ruler will engage in battle only if it is to protect his people; he will feel sorry for his enemy and for the situation. An ideal leader would never be able to rejoice after a victory, because the death of an enemy is still a tragedy. Lao tzu believes that violence will always be followed by violence, and that the act of war itself is not virtuous. He believes that it is ideal to have no enemies. Compromise is often favorable to violence. A war is only as good as the intentions behind fighting it. When leaders start wars with selfish motives, they are resisting the natural order of the universe. If people act in accordance with the Tao, they will find that violence is less frequent in their lives. Lao tzu is morally opposed to war, and he would prefer a world without it. First, I wanted to learn theories of multimedia design, specifically for educational purposes, and then have the opportunity to immediately apply those learnings to a hands on production process. Second, I wanted the chance to interact with other educational media designers, such as Harvard s TIE students. I feel that my goals were met in both expected and unforeseen ways. First, the readings informed my design choices how specifically I wanted to move my audience and what tactics and strategies I needed to use to get them there. The Chris Dede article, Vignettes about the Future of Learning Technologies, helped me conceptualize how people would use mobile technology, and how using a handheld device could change the way a person interacts with space and receives information. I also used the case study, What I Learned Doing a Multimedia Project on the French Revolution, to see how another designer thought through her project, and handled financial and time constraints. The readings on being culturally sensitive, and including other viewpoints into one s work, helped me think about how to incorporate diverse perspectives in my project, and encouraged me to believe in my original goal of including multiple points of view. I also enjoyed applying the strategies that Hampe illustrates in his documentary guide to design projects outside of the class. For example, I used his section on interview techniques to help me with the interviews I conducted for a documentary on a group of Blue Hill, Maine residents who had made a Super 8 film when they were in high school. What Is The Theme Of The Guest By Albert Camus The Guest by Albert Camus The Guest is a short story written by Albert Camus and first published as a part of the collection Exile and the Kingdom in 1957. The main character of the story is a teacher in a remote school Daru. The man was alone because of the snowfall, until gendarme Balducci with the apprehended Arabic person appeared. Daru was asked to take prisoner to a nearby town Tinguit where he would be tried for relative s murder. The teacher did not want to take part in these events, but Balducci still left Arab in the school. Daru did not treat the man like a prisoner. In the morning he took Arab outside, gave him money with food, explained how to reach Tinguit or nomads and gave him an opportunity to choose his own fate. The teacher ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Daru informed the Arab about existed choices and did not try to show him that one of them would be more honorable than the other .However, the teacher wished the man to stay away from French officials. Daru with heavy heart made out the Arab walking slowly on the road to prison (Camus 11). Words with heavy heart highlighted the man wanted Arab to choose the road to nomads. The sentence could show that Daru was more on Algerian than the French side in the conflict in spite of his pursuance of neutrality. Teacher s attitude was highlighted by the Arab s behavior. Daru treated apprehended man as a guest, not a prisoner, but the man could deny his hospitality or even kill the teacher as a roadblock on the way to freedom. However, the Arab did not hurt Daru, accepted his food and beverages. This behavior can be treated as a sign of political solidarity, the food symbolizing the exchange of life between them (Bernardo). Arab s decision to go to the police headquarters in Tinguit, and the fact he did not try to hurt Daru, showed the man was not really a bad person; and the murder he committed could be a result of emotions or misunderstanding. These suggestions make readers to support Daru s decision to give the Arab an opportunity to choose his fate by himself, and not make a man a subject of a travesty of a trial (Bernardo). Prodigality means wastefully extravagant, so Abner tends to lust after lavish items or an lavish lifestyle that he can not obtain. If anything, some of the better items he have are stolen (184). • 41. The Revolving Door Amanda Stevenson Dr. Woodiwiss PO 101 11 December 2015 ¬¬¬¬¬The Effects of the Revolving Door For five years, Mr. Larry Lavender served as the chief of staff for Representative Spencer Bachus on the House Financial Services Committee. In 2012, Lavender was recruited by a law firm representing JPMorgan, a banking and financial institution, and left the committee. Although this move disbanded his professional link to Bachus, the two still maintained a personal relationship, and Lavender also communicated with former colleagues without seeking any official favors or actions (Revolving Door). Because of the relationship between Lavender and Bachus and through efforts made behind the scenes, JPMorgan avoided testifying against one of their clients in the House of Representatives. This sequence of events illustrates what is referred to as the revolving door , which is a system that shuffles former federal employees into jobs as lobbyists, consultants and strategists . In this system, former public office holders become lobbyists because they already have relationships with people they have worked with or for in the past. Within the practice, there has been evidence of corruption through the manipulation of bans and the undermining use of professional interactions. The spinning of the revolving door prompts government officials to make laws that reflect the preferences of industry lobbies rather than the will of the people As the revolving door continues to spin more ...
