Theist Argument
One of the first ways a theist might respond to this argument is by denying premise 1 because one
might claim that Rowe has given no sufficient reason to believe that it is true. All that has been solved
the theist believes is that there is evil in the world and that we don t know why or what the good is that
can justify God in permitting such evil (Rowe, 2004, p.7). This line of argument is also known as the
argument from ignorance. Could we, the theist argues, even comprehend the goods which permit
much of this horrendous suffering given the infinite transcendence of Gods mind? (Rowe, 2004, p.7).
They give the analogy of a parent and child. In the analogy, God is likened to us the way a loving
parent is to their child. For ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, there is the problem of geography where suffering from natural disasters could have
been more evenly distributed around the world by God, at present it is only happening in certain
regions, most predominantly the third world countries (Tattersall, 2015, p.4). There is also the problem
of quantity, the quantity of natural evil in our world is far too much to be explained by the
advantageous effects of showing human virtues such as courage, compassion and love (Tattersall,
2015, p.4). Thus, it can be suggested that the evidential problem of evil does in fact show that evil is
evidence against the belief in God, although it does not disprove his existence as this is not what I
have set out to do here, it does significantly lower the probability that there is a God. We can therefore
agree with Russel that: Because the hypotheses which are offered to save theism are unlikely on what
we know, theism is defenseless against the evidential arguments from evil (Russell, 1996,

Antony And Cleopatra Relationship Essay
The relationship between Antony and Cleopatra is something we can only speculate about after
analysing the writings from ancient history. The main written accounts of the couple come primarily
from Roman writers, therefore are largely based on the cultural, political and possibly personal beliefs
of the individuals who wrote them.
An important similarity between the two passages would be that both were originally written in the
early part of the second century CE, more than 150 years after the events took place (Fear, 2008, p. 9).
This highlights the fact that we cannot take the information in these passages as true historical fact but
rather the opinion of two Roman citizens whose preconceptions of Antony and Cleopatra have been
formed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
by saying that Antony is living a life of royal luxury and pampers himself like a woman.
In Plutarch s extract, the fault seems to lie upon Antony and his own moral failings. It shows his
weakness in how he reacted to the emotional blackmail and manipulation by Cleopatra. If we take a
closer look at Reading 1.1, it poses very sexist views of women. Much more emphasis is put on stating
that a woman had done this to Antony and that he has been enslaved by her , taking away his control
in the situation.
In the end, both extracts show that toxic relationship of Antony and Cleopatra was the downfall of
their political careers and ultimately cost them both their lives. By studying these historical texts, we
see an example of how our own opinions and ideas play a part in how the reputations of people in
history are created. Undoubtedly the account of Cleopatra and Antony will continue to evolve over
time.
At first glance, these two paintings seem very different to look at. It s clear that they are of the same
genre of still life however the composition, colour range and possible meanings behind the artwork
themselves, greatly differ.
One of the most important differences would be the tonal range used in the two paintings. If we look
at the Moillon painting, the tone appears quite wide, going drastically from dark to light as we see in
the very dark background to the very light table top and oranges. This contrasts with Cézanne s work,
as he

Elon University Experience
College applications were filled out, SATs were taken, and Campbell University was not even a
thought in the back of my brain. It s funny how things work out in the end. From the very beginning of
college searching, Elon University was my top choice. This university had everything I was looking
for: great academic programs, study abroad opportunities, and a sense of community, at least that s
what I believed. Long story short, I was deferred from Elon until the Spring 2017 semester, taking that
university out of the picture. The other schools I applied to and was accepted at, in order of next
choice to last choice, were Wofford College, Mars Hill University, Wingate University, and Campbell
University. I was also awarded scholarships ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In February, I received a letter from Campbell, inviting me to apply for more scholarships, 2 of which
were full tuition. At first, I wasn t interested, but with encouragement from my family, I figured it was
worth the shot, although, I still had no intention of attending Campbell. On the day of the interview, I
was given a tour of the campus, had the opportunity to meet many friendly staff, and was informed of
all the opportunities for students. Throughout the day, I decided that the only way I would go to
Campbell was if I was awarded an additional scholarship. When I didn t receive the scholarship, I was
still set on Wofford. It wasn t until I spent the weekend at Wofford that I began to have doubts about
attending there. A few days before the enrollment deposit deadline of May 1, I was faced with the
decision of Wofford or Campbell. The school I believed I was going to for the past several months or
the school I never took a glance at. After evaluating my priorities, I decided that Campbell would be
the place for me. I found that Campbell had many more opportunities for me to practice my faith and
live in a Christian community. I ve already confirmed that I have and will continue to have so many
campus ministry groups and worships to attend, something that I could not

Loaded Firearms
Do You Carry At Home or Just When You Go Out
For those that have carried for any length of time will feel uncomfortable without a holstered firearm
on their hip. You feel anxious, without it there on the hip. The comforting weight is gone, and until the
situation is rectified you feel exposed, naked even.
You pat your pants pocket for keys, change, and check for your phone. You feel to make sure your
wallet is in place and you always put your hand to your hip to make sure your sidearm is secure. The
purse gets inspected for keys, phone, wallet, and other daily necessities and you always make sure
your sidearm is nestled inside. It is in place even when around the home, and it may come out of the

It is important that you do not skimp on your holster in particular if you carry concealed. You literally

you match the two up.
We were not going to get into the debate about open carrying out in public but a news article caught
our eye here.
Gun Toting Subway Customer Gets Into Open Carry Dispute with Police
In Connecticut, people can open carry so long as they have a permit and are carrying the permit with
them in public. You cannot be arrested for simply carrying openly, and here is where the law gets
murky. On one hand the law also states police officers can ask to see your permit and refusal to
produce the permit can lead to an arrest because you interfered with police.
On the other hand, the law states that police need a reasonable suspicion that a crime has been
committed by the one carrying the weapon. This allows police to at any time reasonably assume a
crime has been committed or will be committed by someone open carrying. Essentially, in
Connecticut police can ask you for your papers at any time.
Businesses are allowed to refuse service to anyone open carrying in

Nadine Gordimer s Essay Once Upon A Time
Nadine Gordimer s essay, Once Upon a Time, warns of the dangers of the apartheid movement with a
cautionary tale wrapped in the guise of a bedtime story. Although Gordimer never mentions South
Africa or the apartheid in Once Upon a Time, background research reveals she was a long time anti
apartheid activist, a recipient of the Nobel Prize in Literature, and a resonating voice in South African
politics. With this mind, it seems obvious that the husband and wife characters she creates in Once
Upon a Time represent the apartheid supporters. On the surface, the husband and wife appear as a
couple living a perfect life and destined for a happily ever after ending. In their public daily lives,
Gordimer s couple lives a politically correct

Essay Frederick Douglass and Slavery
Frederick Douglass and Slavery Frederick Douglass the most successful abolitionist who changed
America s views of slavery through his writings and actions. Frederick Douglass had many
achievements throughout his life. His Life as a slave had a great impact on his writings. His great
oratory skills left the largest impact on Civil War time period literature. All in all he was the best black
speaker and writer ever. Douglass was born a slave in 1817, in Maryland. He educated himself and
became determined to escape the horror of slavery. He attempted to escape slavery once, but failed.
He later made a successful escape in 1838.

In reply, Douglass wrote Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass, An American Slave (1845),
which he revised in later years: in final form, it appeared in 1882 under the title Life and Times Of
Frederick Douglass. (Graves, 52 ) Frederick s oratory skills left the largest impact on Civil War time
period literature. Douglass s most significant autobiographical works include: Narrative Of The Life
Of Frederick Douglass, An American Slave: My Bondage And My Freedom: and Life And Times Of
Frederick Douglass. These three books are about the same person, and share a similar message, but are
written by Frederick at different times of his life, looking at the past in different ways.
In Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass, Douglass used a simple, yet educated way to show
how he felt as a slave growing up in Maryland. He describes in the Narrative I have often been so
pinched with hunger as to dispute with old Nep, the dog, for the crumbs which fell from the kitchen
table. (Douglass, 34) Douglass s Narrative was known as being a brief, descriptive (like his statement
in the above lines), and easy to read piece of literature. It showed the hardships of slavery as seen by a
real slave. I remember thinking that God was angry with the white people because of their slave
holding wickedness, and therefore his judgments were abroad in the land (Douglass, 89) Douglass
became educated through his own means. Knowledge was truly a

Eating Disorders Destroy Lives Essay
Title Eating Disorder a combination of 14 letters that has the power to rock the life of the person who
has it. Some of the most common eating conditions are anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorder.
According to the LA Times, In 2009 the government published data that showed that kids under 12
were the fastest growing population of patients hospitalized for eating disorders. Not only are eating
disorders becoming more popular and not in a positive way, but also the teens who have them getting

Not only does the world around these teens influence them to be skinny, their own mental health has
been affected. Stress, depression, and low self esteem have contributed to eating disorders. According
to Huffington Post, ...feelings of being stressed or overwhelmed can trigger disordered eating
behaviors, which are used as a coping mechanism. Many teens will become stressed because of school
and/or family issues and often times the young boy or girl will find a temporary comfort in food. They
can binge eat and this type of eating later turns into a disorder called BED, binge eating disorder. On
the other side, some teens feel that their life is out of control and if they can regulate how many
calories they take in or how much or little food they eat, they can have control (Huffington Post).
There was a study done among the females student in a Michigan college. They found that those who
had eating disorders also had high levels of anxiety and depression. According to the Princeton
University site about eating disorders, The development of anorexia or bulimia is not simply the result
of a desire to be thin, but the manifestation of deeper emotional and psychological problems (Eating
Disorders). Eating disorders aren t just a desire to lose weight, but deep mental problems that develop
into eating problems. Along with society and mental health affecting eating disorders in teens,
genetics play a part in it

Historical Context Analysis
Studying the context in which a text was written provides valuable insight to the outside factors that
may have had an influence on the text and its original meaning. This includes the type of government,
societal norms, and the type of education available. These factors influence the gender norms and their
specific roles in society during that time. The Household Codes were written during in ancient times
under a Greco Roman government. As a result of this type of government, specific laws and standards
were set in place by the government and reinforced by society which had an influence over what
women were able to do. Prominent ways of thought in those societies also had an impact on the New
Testament writings since they influenced the educational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the historical context is recognized, the text will be interpreted in a way that the author had
intended and not taken out of context. This is essential for modern interpreters of the Bible because the
social location of the individuals in the present society is different from the individuals in antiquity.
When interpreting the Bible, there are multiple methods that can be used and different presuppositions
that the reader can bring to their understanding of the material. According to Hauer and Young, there
are three complementary paths a modern reader can take in serious study of the Bible (Hauer, 1). One
of these paths includes analyzing the historical world of the Bible. The historical world refers to the
events and situations that form contexts for understanding the Bible as it was being written and
interpreted (Hauer, 1). These refer to things such as wars or the type of government that is in control
because that affects the audience of the writing and what issues within the community are being
addressed by the writer. The Bible has a large influence over modern society because it was composed
in, and became part of history (Hauer, 1). With such a long history, the Bible has been established as

Carson McCullers
Walter Allen said of Carson McCullers; ``Faulkner apart, the most remarkable novelist the South has
produced seems to me Carson McCullers (Allen 208). Her work is marked with the feeling of
loneliness coming from her lonely childhood (spiritual isolation is the basis of most of her themes)

A lot of critics speak about the poetic aspect of her work and think that ``With her, the Southern
tradition of the Gothic novel is refined into a poetic sensibility which has not escaped either imitation
or misuse (Hassan 506). Even if her novels are all in prose and ``not in any obvious sense poetic
(Allen 208), ``from its first appearance, critics have recognized the Lyricism of the McCullers
narrative style, which can render even sordid subject matter in poetic terms (Griffith 209). This come
from her first vocation which was music. One can find this constant presence of music in her novels:
ballad and Negro song. This is a part of the spirit of the deep South she described in her work.
As she was born in Georgia and most of her novels take place in the South, she is always connected
with this region. Some people called her work gothic because of her characters who all have a
physical or psychological deficiency. Gothic is a style of writing that grew in the south with authors as
William Faulkner, Earnest Hemingway, and F. Scott Fitzgerald. She is very often associated with all
these well known writers. ``With a touch reminiscent of Faulkner but peculiarly her own style (Feld

Okonkwo’s Failures Due to Masculinity
Most men in society do not like to be seen as feminine, so they do whatever they can to prove their
masculinity and overall power. In Chinua Achebe s novel, Things Fall Apart, Okonkwo s main goal in
life is to be as masculine as possible. He does not let anyone drag him down, even if it means hurting
them in the process. In the end, Okonkwo s attempts to be masculine and powerful highlight his
failures as a father, husband, and son.
One specific thing Okonkwo is a failure at is being a father. First of all, his only son, Nwoye, is a
Christian and Okonkwo hates him for that. He sees him as weak and feminine, which all along has
been the exact opposite of his goal as a man in society. Okonkwo has constructed a sense of gender by

Okonkwo is a failure in every way as a son as well. It is learned early on in the book how much he
hates Unoko, his father. Okonkwo s relationship with him is devoid of love and is marked with disgust
because his he is weak and a failure. Whenever someone brings up his name, it gives him bad
thoughts of him and what little he did in his lifetime. Even while his father is dead, he wants nothing

Nep Vs Gp Essay
A) How do the controls over NEP and NECB differ from the controls over GPP and decomposition?
Why are these controls different? (Chapter 7)
Net ecosystem carbon balance (NECB) is the net rate of carbon accumulation by an ecosystem. It is
the change in ecosystem carbon stock over time. Net ecosystem production (NEP) is the total amount
of carbon moving into an ecosystem minus the total respiration of the ecosystem (GPP Recosytem).
Where gross primary productivity (GPP) is the sum of all photosynthetic activity measured at the
ecosystem scale. Decomposition is the conversion of dead organic matter into CO2, mineral nutrients,
and organic compounds through the processes of leaching, fragmentation, and chemical alteration. All
of these concepts are interrelated and fit into NECB, but the controls differ in some substantial ways.
GPP is controlled by amount of photosynthetic tissue, the duration of the activity (including
environmental stressors), and soil resources (water and nutrients). This represents the largest carbon
flux into the system and one of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fungi typically have a suite of different enzymes capable of breaking down different types of plant
compounds (lignin, cellulose, etc.). On the other hand, bacteria and archaea may only produce one or
some of the necessary enzymes to break down these same compounds. In order for bacteria to break
down those more complex compounds they have to form a consortium where each contributes a
particular enzyme, each of which contributes to breaking certain bonds within those compounds. For
example, cellulose breakdown requires a suite of three different enzyme systems: endocellulases break
down the internal bonds, the exocellulases remove the ends of the chains, this forms cellobiose, which
can be absorbed, but is further broken down by cellobiase intercellularly to create

The Pearl, By John Steinbeck
Most people would consider finding a piece of jewelry worth large sums of money a wonderful stroke
of luck. Kino, the main character of John Steinbeck s ninety page novel The Pearl, sure felt this way
when he discovered the greatest pearl in the world at the point in his life when he needed it most his
son having just being stung by a scorpion and needing expensive medical treatment. However, when
the pearl buyers try to swindle him and then send assassins to kill him, burn his house, and destroy his
canoe, his perception of the pearl begins to shift. He decides to flee to the capital and sell the pearl
himself, taking a route through the mountains in order to evade his pursuers. When his efforts to hide

He very plainly puts, For his boat smashed, his baby dead, and the pearl cast into the sea, he has less
when the story is over than he had when it started (140).
Commentator Sydney Krause who takes a similar approach describes Kino s returning of the pearl to
the sea as a desperate act of defeat at the hands of the pearl s evil nature (156). Stephen George calls
Coyotito Kino s real pearl and writes that his death will follow Kino for the rest of his life (95). Kino
does eventually rid himself of the pearl but not before it has destroyed almost everything that he cares
for (Lisca 292). The loss of his livelihood, the death of his son, and the forfeiture of the pearl make
Kino s position at the end of the novel seem morose. On the other hand, other critics see the novel as
optimistic because they believe that Kino redeems himself when he throws the pearl back into the
ocean. In the last paragraph of the novel, Steinbeck makes a hard shift from a deep melancholy tone to
a calm peaceful tone a shift that has aroused the interests of many Steinbeck readers. He uses the word
lovely and the color green multiple times in just a few sentences to show the peacefulness of the pearl
s new resting place (90). On further reflection, some critics have picked up on the subtle

`` Moral Machines `` By Robert J. Sawyer And Gary Marcus
Myths are a good representation of how technology works in a society. This is due to their valuable
lessons which relate the impact of technological history on society over a period of time. Two authors
by the names of Robert J. Sawyer and Gary Marcus elaborate the connection between science fiction
and ethics to technology which compares to Prometheus s myth. Sawyer explains the relationship in
her essay The Purpose of Science Fiction in which he justifies that science fiction can portray the
outcomes of future technology. Marcus justifies this connection in his essay Moral Machines when he
describes how automated machinery should include ethical moralities in reference to how they are
being used in real life scenarios. Sawyer and Marcus reveal the relationship of science fiction and
ethics to technology which relates to the themes of Prometheus through science fiction and ethical
motives. Prometheus was well known for giving the human race the gift of fire. He delivered fire to
the world by stealing it from Zeus due to a conflict between the two. Prometheus was punished for his
wrongdoing in which Zeus chained Prometheus to a boulder so an eagle would come to eat his liver
every day. Prometheus s actions can represent a theme of progress in which he helps humans proceed
around nature s boundaries. Humans encounter obstacles in their lives to achieve a better life and live
comfortably, but the fire is the stepping stone to human success. Prometheus s gift to the world

The Importance Of Gender Equality In The Military
In a world where political correctness reigns supreme and gender equality are major concerns and
talking points for a lot of people, there are some circumstances where gender equality just does not
make sense. There are times when pushing for gender equality causes only harm and in fact, damages
its own cause. In the Military, this has taken the form of pushing to have women be allowed to serve
in front lines combat units. In the major political push for gender equality in all jobs, some of these
pushes for change will cause only harm. Women should not be allowed to serve in front line combat
units because of their biology they are physically incapable of the same things as men are, there will
be unit cohesion problems that do not exist and there are health concerns for women have that men do
not have. Beginning in early 2013, the Secretary of Defense chose to rescind the policy known as the
Direct Combat Exclusion Rule (Batterton, Hale, Murphy, 2016). This policy is what restricted front
line combat units to men only. After this policy was rescinded, the different branches of the Military
have opened their training programs to allow women the chance to pass them. The problem with this
is that along with opening these programs to women, they have had to modify the training programs to
be gender neutral (Roulo, 2013). This means that if the standards are too high for women to pass, the
tests would seem biased. However, if we lower them, then the recruits which pass the

Fundamentalists believed in traditional Christian values rooted in the past. After World War II,
fundamentalists became concerned with the morality of the country. Therefore, prominent leaders such

An Excited Loud Echoes Through Ford Field
An excited shout echoes through Ford Field: ELCA, are you ready for tonight? Around me, I hear the
roar of 30,000 Lutherans cheering in response. The noise is deafening, and being a part of it both gives
me goose bumps and makes my heart race. I stand there in Ford Field, in awe of the sheer number of
Lutherans surrounding me. As part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) National
Youth Gathering in Detroit, each person in the crowd is my age and shares the same religious beliefs
as I do. The energetic and unified atmosphere already has me smiling, and I can t wait for the rest of

The speakers in Ford Field had all served so many people in their lives, from fighting poverty and
world hunger to promoting gender and racial justice. For me, I knew I wouldn t be changing the world

was so incredibly important to me, and why I was crushed when the DJ made an announcement later
that day.
It came around 2:30 P.M.; we had been talking, dancing, and waiting together for 5 hours, and our bus
still hadn t come. Anyone could tell how exhausted we were by the looks on our faces. Just as I had
convinced myself that our bus was next, a message came over the speakers: Buses 91 100 will not be
leaving today. Due to traffic delays, the buses are now needed to go pick up volunteers from this
morning. All remaining participants: follow your leader to the Cobo Center. In one moment, my
struggling smile faded and I was on the verge of tears. Thoughts flooded my mind: How could this
happen? Didn t they know they needed a few more buses? I waited all this time for nothing? How
could I miss this, it s what I came here for! Deep down I knew God had much more in store for me,
but at the time I felt cheated out of an essential part of the trip. Our tiny circle of six sat in silence for a
while, dejected and a little angry. We were given our lunch and began to eat together, but the almost
tangible silence remained hanging in the air. After we had eaten, our

Color In Women s Equality By Marisol
Women s Equality, by the American artist Marisol, is a lithograph on paper created in 1975 . It is
currently on display at the Grand Rapids Art Museum. At its center, the print features a portrait of
Elizabeth Cady Stanton and one of Lucretia Mott. The portraits are colorless, rendered only in black
and white. The women s features are haggard, lined with advanced age and immensely serious. Their
eyes bore into the viewer in a nonverbal challenge. The faces of the early women s rights activists are
the only distinct images in the art work. They are the definite forms the viewer s eye is immediately
drawn toward. The black and white faces stand in sharp contrast to the colors that surround and engulf
them pink, red, blue, purple, green, yellow, orange. Arising from these seemingly purposelessly
splashed colors, hands emerge from the white background, clasping, reaching toward Elizabeth Cady
Stanton and Lucretia Mott. In Women s Equality, Marisol endeavors to inspire women to fight for
equal rights through her use of color, rendering of the hands, and rendering of the facial features of
Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Henry David Thoreau Symbolism
Henry David Thoreau was a complex writer and used a lot of symbolism to help express some of his
meaning. For example, in Where I Lived, and What I Lived For he used morning and bathing as
symbols for the point he was trying to get across. Thoreau referenced bathing as a religious exercise,
and it was a method of renewing oneself, They say that characters were engraven on the bathing tub of
King Tching thang to this effect: Renew thyself completely each day; do it again, and again, and
forever again (Thoreau 102). Obviously whenever you take a bath you are not going to become a new
person, but Thoreau is saying that bathing in the morning is refreshing and makes you feel fresher and
more motivated throughout the day. To Thoreau morning was, A cheerful invitation to make my life of
equal simplicity, and I may say innocence, with Nature herself (Thoreau 102). He was all about
simplicity which was the main reason that he moved into the woods in the first place. He goes on to
claim that the morning time is one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Romanticism, Realism and Local Color in The Awakening
Kate Chopin is an author who was born in 1851 and died in 1904. Her father died when she was
young, and her husband died when she was thirty one leaving her with six children. Due to this, she
had little male influence throughout her life. This may possibly be why she had so little inhibition
when writing her novels. She seemed to concentrate on the oppression of women and presented
socially unacceptable ideas at the time of their publication. Although Kate Chopin stirred up great
controversy in her time, today her novels, short stories, and poems are often regarded as great literary

need for freedom from the ties of life that hold her down and also her need for individuality. One way
she defies society is by leaving her home on Tuesdays, which are designated by Creole tradition as
stay at home and greet guests days. On several Tuesdays, Edna leaves home to walk about town
leaving her guests and husband disappointed. She searches to be an individual and not conform to the
standards of society. As written in the novel, She had all her life long been accustomed to harbor
thoughts and emotions which never voice themselves. They had never taken the form of struggles.
They belonged to her and were her own, and she entertained the conviction that she had a right to
them and that they concerned no one but herself. Edna had once told Madame Ratignolle that she
would never sacrifice herself for her children, or for any one (79). Another example of Romanticism
can be found in the way society treats life at the time. They are oblivious, especially the women, to the
limits of their lifestyle. The society present in The Awakening paints a picture where they only see
beautiful, vibrant colors. However, as Edna soon finds out, paint does not stay beautiful forever. Edna
begins to see the layers of paint peeling and chipping off to reveal the grays and blacks hidden
beneath.

School Uniform Policy And School Uniforms
When my son started school in 2007, he was not required to wear any type of uniform for almost two
academic years. As soon as he started first grade, he noticed a big change; a new dress code which
makes him wear the same color of outfit as his classmates, a uniform. Many schools in the world use
uniform in schools. Brunsma a sociologist at the Virginia university stated in his book that: The idea
of requiring public school students to wear uniforms was first envisioned in the 1980s by then
Washington, D.C., mayor Marion Barry, who believed standardized dress might help public school
students succeed as well as those in the city s Catholic schools. The idea flopped, but in 1987, Cherry
Hill Elementary School in Baltimore implemented the first known schoolwide uniform policy as a
means of reducing clothing costs and social pressures on children, (David Brunsma 2004). School
uniform put together children of all social class and help them feel more comfortable, School uniforms
enhance equality amount student and reduce complexity in schools.
The strategy of uniform in schools picked up force in the 1980s after it was noticed that catholic
schools, which wore regalia performed better as far as execution and control. Because of the eminent
advantages that garbs gave to the catholic schools, numerous state funded schools chose to acquire
from these schools and created arrangements for their student to wear school regalia when going to the

Defense Of Skepticism
A Defense of Skepticism in the Epistemology of Testimony
This philosophical study will defend the premise of skepticism in relation to the epistemology of
testimony. Skepticism provides a more evaluative and complex response to the reductionist acquisition
of knowledge by rejecting any form of absolute knowledge. Reductionism provides a holistic way to
describe the functions of knowledge in theories proposed by Descartes, yet these functions can be
further reduced to more obscure or even non existent causalities. More so, antireductionism is not a
sufficient means of describing the underlying functions of knowledge, since it seeks to define the
absolute foundations of a system of thought in a non holistic manner. This is why skepticism is ...

In this form of rationalism, the process of discerning the parts of the whole becomes the method of
validating knowledge, yet these compartmentalized methods can also be falsely interpreted through
the senses. The skeptic would countermand this approach by arguing that the parts of knowledge can
also be false and/or/ non existent, because they have the same subjective qualities as those found in
the reductionist method. For example, Descartes might tell us that the existence of angels would prove
the existence of God. Angels are a subset of God s power in heaven, which would assume that we do
not need to directly prove the existence of God because of the existence of angels. However, Angles
are also subjective literary figures in the Bible, which defines why antireductionist methods can be
equally false. In this manner, Descartes argument about the existence of the mind is based on personal
opinions related to the bible, which an antireductionist might utilize to validate an argument: A central
Cartesian idea, then, is that we know ourselves and our own thoughts and experiences best (Week 5:
Rationalism Notes, p.1). Although an antireductionist might disagree with Descartes holistic
reductionism of the mind (and God s existence), they might also, on the other hand, be convinced of
the God s existence through the existence of Angels.

It could have had an emphasis on social class and identity. Religious reasons could also play a major
role in deciding styles for clothing. Generally men of this period wore heavily puffed clothing of a silk
or thick cotton material. These also had the benefits of warming one up in a cold winter day. Layers
were used in outfits to create a puffing image. The outfit would usually be completed with a fur,
leather, or velvet hat. Because of Spain s growing empire, the influence from this region brought over
a variety clothing styles. It seems that generally people back then all wore thick layers even in hot
weather. Outfits were very structured and rigid, possibly due to preserving a straight back for great
posture and manners. Many accessories were added to increase one s image and social stature.
Usually, outfits included a black color. This is the first time that black is introduced into clothing.
Black clothes would have the effect of making one seem sleeker in figure and it would complement
many different colors of inside layers or accessories. Black has the great effect of highlighting colors
on top of the mono color surface. People back then could have worn this color to show off their power
by emphasizing the silver or gold jewelry. In this period of time, slimmer shoe designs were
introduced for men. They would occasionally have ribbon decor on them in a puffing format. This
made walking or doing daily activities easier because the shoes were more comfortable. Codpieces
also became popular in men s fashion of this time. In women s fashion, dresses were more popular.
Like in many older civilizations, very rigid and structures dresses were used. These were basically
cases for humans to help them keep a good posture and figure. The insides of the dresses would be
lined with wire to restrict the woman s figure and squish and mold the body into a certain hourglass
shape. The torso would be

St. Patrick Research Paper
St. Patrick of Ireland is one of the world s most popular saints. He was born in Roman Britain and
when he was fourteen or so, he was captured by Irish pirates during a raiding party and taken to
Ireland as a slave to herd and tend sheep. At the time, Ireland was a land of Druids and pagans but
Patrick turned to God and wrote his memoir, The Confession. In The Confession, he wrote: The love
of God and his fear grew in me more and more, as did the faith, and my soul was roused, so that, in a
single day, I have said as many as a hundred prayers and in the night, nearly the same. I prayed in the
woods and on the mountain, even before dawn. I felt no hurt from the snow or ice or rain. Patrick s

He worked many miracles and wrote of his love for God in Confessions. After years of living in
poverty, traveling and enduring much suffering he died March 17, 461. He died in Saul, where he had
built the first Irish church. He is believed to be buried in Down Cathedral, Down Patrick. His grave
was marked in 1990 with a granite stone. In His Footsteps: Patrick was a humble, pious, gentle man,
whose love and total devotion to and trust in God should be a shining example to each of us. So
complete was his trust in God, and of the importance of his mission, he feared nothing not even death.

Christ before me, Christ beside me, Christ to win me, Christ to comfort and restore me, Christ beneath
me, Christ above me, Christ inquired, Christ in danger, Christ in hearts of all that love me, Christ in

the Holy Trinity by showing people the shamrock, a three leafed plant, using it to illustrate the
Christian teaching of three persons in one God. This story first appears in writing in 1726, though it
may be older. The shamrock has since become a central symbol for St Patrick s

Gilgamesh Hero
A Look at the Hero Gilgamesh In all of the story of Gilgamesh, he is portrayed as a somewhat perfect
being. Being able to boast of his physical and godlike prowess among his subjects. However, do these
two qualities make him that much more of a hero than other ancient hero s tales? Or even a hero at all?
Gilgamesh s tales may have qualities that make him like a hero, yet compared to other definitions of a
hero he may not stand up to the test of those who, like him, have had their stories told for all ages. As

This may be the reason why in this modern era we may not see him as the hero that the ancients did.
When we think of the modern hero we think of someone who is courageous, who fights evil for truth
and justice. In the ancient times we see that your accomplishments where what made you a legendary
hero not just what you fought for. We can see this especially in the first tablet of Gilgamesh. From the
first few lines of the text we see that his accomplishments are praised rather than his ethics. The book
says Exploring the furthest reaches of the Earth ... Reaching in his might Utanapishtim the Distant
one, Restorer of holy places (Foster, tablet I). Just by these few lines of the book we can see that one
was judged by their actions and accomplishments not the way they carried themselves. In the modern
age we like to see a hero who both has great accomplishments as well as a good moral stature. Which
is why we may not see Gilgamesh as one of our true heroes.
Gilgamesh as a whole is one of ancient time s classic heroes. He has all the qualities of the classic
Roman and Greek heroes. His many accomplishments do hold some credit as being of heroic value,
and even in our own time he does hold some heroic qualities. Heroes over time have had many
qualities and held many beliefs, but Gilgamesh has stood the test of time and has continued to be one

Error Theory And Non-Naturalism Analysis
The most prominent objection to error theory is the moral realist theory of ethical non naturalism.
While error theory and non naturalism share two defining features, their fundamental differences
could not be greater. Non naturalism is built on the same initial claim as error theory; both views agree
that ethical sentences assert moral truths. Both outlooks also agree that moral properties are unlike any
natural property known to exist, meaning they are not reducible to non moral features. Non naturalists,
however, differ from error theorists in their belief that some moral truths asserted through ethical
sentences are actually true despite their queer properties. Furthermore, they believe that moral truths
are objective and cannot be influenced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He calls upon philosopher David Hume s argument that reason can never be an influencing motive of
the will (40). The Humean Theory of Motivation is centered around the idea moral motivation cannot
arise from moral belief alone but must depend as well upon a preexisting desire or other intrinsically
motivating state (Rosati). Preexisting desires do not provide actual moral motivation, the moral belief
just happens to be in accordance with a desire that is likely the main incentive for completing the
action. That leaves intrinsic motivation as the only option. Weak motivational internalism offers a
valid alternative to Mackie s motivational requirements of moral truths. Conflicting desires do
sometimes overpower morality, leading people to engage in behavior/events they feel are morally
wrong. Mental illnesses such as depression can also suppress motivation to abide by certain moral
values. The only viable response to these points is Mackie s claim that the Form of the Good provides
an end with to be pursuedness that is not dependent on the desires of the individual. Thus, the fact that
it is possible for these individuals to override their moral beliefs only further proves that these beliefs
did not come from objective

Research Paper On Atherosclerosis
Introduction Atherosclerosis is the other name for arteriosclerosis, which means arterial hardness.
Arteries carry blood from the heart to the other parts of the body. Healthy arteries are flexible,
sufficiently elastic and strong. Arterial stiffness is common in everyone as they age, which can lead to
restriction of blood flow to the vital organs. This decrease in blood flow might result in heart attack
and stroke. This article discusses various strong and good scientific evidences of dietary supplements
used for preventing and treating Atherosclerosis. Accumulation of fat, LDL cholesterol and calcium in
the arterial walls leads to Atherosclerosis. The accumulated plaque might block the flow of blood in
the artery leading to the loss of blood and oxygen supply to the vital organs. The blocking of blood
flow by the clot results in deep vein thrombosis in the legs and pulmonary embolism in lungs. Clots
mostly create problems in brain, heart and legs, although they can be seen in any part of the body. The

Olympic Stadium Controversy
Introduction
This controversy revolves around the stadium meant to be the host for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic
Games. With the preparations for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, one of the preparations was to
build a new stadium to host the games and in 2012, Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) won the stadium
commission through an international competition (Dezeen, 2015a). Soon after ZHA bid won, they
started work on the site and after two years, and after Japan had won the bid to host the 2020
Olympics, the controversy began with the main argument against the project being that the
architectural design was over budgeted and that it could not be financially sustainable. As a result,
ZHA had to revise their design in 2014 with a new design that addressed the previously voiced
criticism. However, with criticism still raging on, Japan Sports Council (JSC) canceled the firm s
plans in July 2015, after Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe weighed into the issue by announcing
that the design plans will be scrapped as a result of spiraling costs and that the project would be started

Constantius. During Constantine s reign he quickly gained popularity and consolidated his power
while the rest of the emperors competed and quarreled amongst each other. Eventually the empire was
overtaken strategically by two emperors Licinius and Constantine. This peace did not last long
however, and in the year of 324 Licinius surrendered to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Constantinople s evident luxury was not the most surprising aspect of this metropolis, but its ability to
endure was. By medieval standards it was a huge city, with something around 375,000 inhabitants in
1200 (Harris 108). Constantine the Great introduced a new gold coin called the solidus that was made
standard for not only Byzantium but all of the Mediterranean. To keep this infrastructure going, the
tried and true taxation of the people was a necessity. In any instance taxation is a burden but paying
taxes insured circulation of even the most valuable of coins to any ones hand. Value and rarity also
drove policy making in this area of the Mediterranean, so much so that garments and fabrics were
reserved for classes of society and in extreme cases solely to the Byzantines. Concisely
Constantinople and its wealth have sustained due to its prime trade route real estate and its goods, the
inhabitants not only knew this but let it instigated their social conceptions of themselves. Culture in
Constantinople was an amazing thing; artist, writers, and architects exerted a powerful cultural pull
and dominated economic life in the Mediterranean. Travelers and merchants were especially spurred
by the monasteries and churches. Hagia Sophia or the Church of Holy Wisdom A Russian 14th century
traveler, Stephen of Novgorod, wrote, As for St Sophia, the human mind can neither tell it nor make

The Death Of The Thief
He was focused on what he had to do; he d planned carefully, and this train ride was the last leg to
freedom with a half million dollars. The thief didn t need the money in the sense that most people
would need the money. He had bank accounts in several banks around the world. His lowest balance
was a little over 3 million dollars. This last deposit would be more than 4 million dollars, maybe even
closer to 6 million if he found the right buyer. He had decided it was time to retire, though, and he
didn t want to change his lifestyle. He was healthy, and not that old, so he needed a good nest egg to
retire comfortably. As he sat on the train that night, he thought about the statue he carried in his bag.

Soon, he d gotten bored of that, though, and he d embarked on his first theft. He d stolen a painting he
d seen when he d visited a villa in the south of France. He d planned, and gotten away, but it had been
close. After that, he was hooked. He d practiced and planned, and successfully stolen jewelry, art and
cash from people who had too much. He took pride in the fact that he d only stolen from people who
had gotten their own wealth by taking advantage of others. In his mind, he believed they deserved to
give some away, so he wasn t really hurting anyone. The young man was nervous. He had to get the
money to buy his sister back from the people who took her. He had already tried to just grab her from
them, the way they had grabbed her from him, but it hadn t worked. He still had bruises from that
encounter, and they assured him they would give her up as long as he came up with the $5000 price
they had set. Five thousand dollars might as well be a million to him. He d never had enough to even
warrant the bank account he d opened with his first pay check. His paltry checks barely covered his
rent and food for him and his sister. What little he had left, his mother stole to cover her drug habit.
She had been the one who told them where to find his sister. She said they d forced her, but he knew it
was probably for drugs. That s all that had

The Testament Of The Ephesians
Paul, who is the author of Ephesians, is writing to the church in Ephesus and possibly surrounding
Asia minor cities. He wrote the book of Ephesians sometime between AD 60 62 when he was
imprisoned in Rome (3:1, 4:1, 6:20). The letter was taken to Ephesus by Tychicus (vs 6:21 22). Paul
knew that the Christians in Ephesus and the surrounding towns were growing and had heard about
their faith so he addresses the Ephesians as a corporate body (Hultgren, 2015). At the time, Ephesus
was a thriving city and the capitol of the providence of Asia. It was a city that was strategically located
to encourage trade routes that would attract people from all over. Today, Ephesus ruins are located in
modern day Turkey where people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Context Literary: Most of Paul s letters are written as expositions which are carefully reasoned
explanations of his letter and well thought out words that are crucially placed to build agreement and
action among the people (Hendricks and Hendricks, 2007, p. 224). However, this particular passage of
Ephesians 3: 14 21 is a prayer among his exposition.
Right before this passage, Paul pleads with the Ephesians that the church needs to be made known of
the authorities in the heavenly places (Ephesians 3:10) so that they may have confidence in their faith
(vs 12). Paul starts verse 14 with For this reason showing his readers that this is why he is adding a
prayer in the middle of his discussion.

Paul uses this interchange in prayer as a Chiasm which is a list of ideas that are structured to parallel
each other in certain lines such as line A, line B, line C, line B, line A (Duvall and Hays, 2012, p. 100).
He starts the prayer out with Praise to the Father with words such as I bow my knees before the Father
(vs 14). He then explains God s great power in verses 15 and 16. Finally, he states his purpose of the
prayer in verse 17 with words such as so that . In verses 17 19 he tells us the purpose which is three
fold: that Christ may dwell in our hearts, to know the love of Christ, and to be filled with fullness of
God. In verse 20 he goes back to talking about God s great power and in verse 21 he closes the prayer

Klc Case Study
I
The clients visiting Kingsford Legal Centre (KLC) are often disadvantaged and experiencing
hardships in their life, their needs sometimes slip through the net and were not listened or catered by
the society, and this usually places them in a vulnerable situation. For instance, there are substantially
unequal bargaining powers when a client is facing employment issues, where the opposing party is the
client s employer or the organisation represented by a team of in house legal counsels. The opposing
party may, source any information that is relevant to the client, to leverage their own position. KLC
takes on a proactive approach by introducing confidentiality standards and procedures, aligning with
client legal privilege, thus facilitates a confidential and protected communication between the client
and the staffs of KLC.
Community legal centres like the KLC are committed to providing disadvantaged clients with
accesses to justice. The increasing ethical dilemma with client conflict of interest, could potentially

In my opinion, providing financial contributions to community legal centres and not for profit

A Psychodynamic Therapist May Also Be Willing To Help Steven
A psychodynamic therapist may also be willing to help Steven explore these dynamic, internal forces
that have determine the trajectories of his life, thus far, since coming into contact with, or being
influenced by, his past experiences. Taken together, the overarching goal of a psychodynamic therapist
is to listen attentively to what the client is sharing, looking for abnormalities that the individual finds
hard to cope with, which give rise to the stated conflict amongst these forces, subsequently leading to
the presenting negative effects. In Steven s situation, we know that his childhood was spent looking
out for his two younger brothers because his parents were alcoholics and disinterested in us kids.
Thus, Steven s chronic worry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Considering some common features and characteristics of psychodynamic psychotherapies, we can
also encompass a focus on Steven s affect and emotional expression, self experience and relatedness,
maladaptive relationship patterns, transference and countertransference, exploration of unconscious
motives and fantasies, and relate his current experiences to his past experiences (Friederich, Zeeck
Herzog, 2015).
Altogether, Steven s ego defense mechanism has failed to control his unacceptable id impulses, which
lead to his chronic worry and negative ruminations. Insofar, his childhood experiences coupled with
both his parents being alcoholics, has conflicted with Steven s unconscious forces, since becoming
aware that he is expecting his first child. Or perhaps, his fixation on the actions of his parents could
have impacted him. Irrespective of both, they are all important in helping us to understand Steven s
presenting concerns and allowing him to gain a deepened understanding of self and others, recognize
his strengths and challenges and develop or increase his capacities to cope more effectively (Borden,
2000; Cortina, 2010).

Follow The Water Analysis
Will The joy of having less gravity on mars effect the rest of her life? Not only the lack of gravity will

Uses Scientific information in her fictional story Follow The Water . Unmanned robots that explore
the planet: Before we could send a human we had to send machine To send back maps and other
useful pieces of info. This is true but the entire man going is where the story becomes fiction. If we
hadn t these people could be sent to a planet where there is only lava. It was easier to send unmanned
robots because it takes more supplies to keep humans alive. The food is lighter and smaller when it
dehydrated just not very tasty, so we add water back to it. When they do this it s called rehydrated
food and has most of the nutrition of a normal meal. I wouldn t want to eat it if I had other food but in
the case that they are in I might. Evidently the water usually comes from recycling which means using

The Creation Myths Of Mayan And Shintoism
Creation myths tell a variety of different stories about how the world began and how people came first
to inhabit it. Mayan and Shintoism are two well known primal religions that describe many creation
myths throughout the years. The creation myths in both of these primal religions show how the world
and people formed. Though the creation myths of the Mayan and Shintoism people are from parts
around the world, they are very different in their essential elements.
The creation of Mayans was very simple to be honest. One of their creation myth stories talks about
how the world began from the makers of the sea and sky. At first, there is just the sky. All alone and
nothing else exists but the sea under it. Furthermore, there is no living ... Show more content on

A reed was formed from the Earth becoming the god Kuni toko tachi no Mikoto. Furthermore, more
gods were evolved which had both female and male. Izanagi no Mikoto and Izanami no Mikoto were
the important ones here. They talked about how the earth was lacking things. They through their
heavenly spear to create an ocean. After this, they created islands and the islands had deities which
created rivers and mountains.
The human condition is somewhat being explained here in these myths. For the Mayans, the human
condition is showed by forming a person to take care of the habitats and animals. Furthermore, a
person was built in order to interact with its environment and form more life. The idea of Salvation is
shown through Shintoism very clearly. In addition, when gods were in danger, there main gods were
there to help them. You were protected by your ancestors. These two myths also reveal some features
about the Mayan and Shintoism cultures. For the Mayan, it shows that they think about their natural
environment in a certain way. Furthermore, they interact with nature in a certain way, and they engage
in rituals that offer respect to the forces of nature.
Both of these myths overall do have many similarities and differences. One of the main differences is
that the world of Mayans were created from the sky and sea. However, the world of Shinto was
created from deities. In Shintoism, every aspect of nature was

Theories Of Rational Choice Theory
Introduction
When a natural scientist is interested in how something works, he usually observes, then constructs a
theory which helps to interpret what he sees. Following the building of a model, the results of the
experiment tell whether the theory correctly explained the phenomenon in question. Even in the case
of the physical sciences, the construction of a model requires assumptions to be made, leading to the
model omitting certain, preferably unimportant effectors. The same is true about models built by
economists to explain social phenomena. Sudgen defined models as credible worlds, i.e. deliberate
constructions of an abstract entity by the modeller, resulting in a parallel/counterfactual world, which
resembles only aspects of our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The rational agent has preferences and prospects, other core ingredients of rational choice theory.
Preferences represent subjective evaluation of options by the agent, they are contextualised (the choice
is between consumption bundles rather than individual goods) and bear a number of assumptions
about their nature. These include asymmetry, transitivity, completeness; and ranking all lotteries
involving alternatives, ranking all compound lotteries involving initial lotteries, ranking all compound
lotteries involving all compound lotteries, and so on ad infinitum (stated as further requirements on
rationality theory by John von Neumann and Oskar Morgenstern). Asymmetry means that if an agent
prefers a to b, he does not prefer b to a. Transitivity entails that if an agent prefers a to b and b to c, he
also prefers a to c. Completeness refers to the assumption that an agent either prefers something to
something else, or else is indifferent between them. However, it can happen that people are mot
always indifferent to the options they do not ranked as preferred the resulting incomplete rankings are
normal.
Preferences are determined to be a psychological attitude: the agent compares various items and ranks
which ones he likes better than others (the preferences). The probability function represents the agent s
beliefs about the states of the world, while the interval valued (or carinal) utility function stands for
the agent s relative desires for the basic

How Scientists Can Most Efficiently Complete Organ...
Abstract: The purpose of this experiment is to test how scientists can most efficiently complete organ
printing. In this lab, the cells will be suspended in a substrate called sodium alginate collagen,
hydrogel, and other reactants. These materials will react to then embed the cells to their goal location.
Then, the cells will be able to be fixated into layers. These layers will then come together and form
tissues, which according to biological organization will form organs. The inkjet bioprinter allows for
this to occur. Tiny ink droplets form a digital design for the organ printing, and in horizontal sheets,
the organ is created tissue by tissue. This lab will test to see which percent concentration of the
sodium alginate collagen composite will prove to be most effective when organ printing. The
dependent factor that will determine the conclusion will be the percent of efficiency of cell survival
rate. Four trials will be completed in which the same organ is printed and all factors are kept constant,
except for the percent concentration of the substrate.
Introduction:
In the past, the only way to replace diminished cells, tissues, and organs was from organ
transplantation. An organ donor was needed, and the tissues would be surgically removed from the
donated body and placed into the recipient. Due to the current research being conducted, it is believed
that tissue engineering and organ printing can contribute to the process of improving and saving lives.

Commercialization Of Art And China
Commercialization of Art in China
Introduction
Commercialization of art is a global trend in the 21st century, which makes the artworks known to the
public as everyone is able to see it in auctions, galleries and media. Commercialism in the recent days
has an important presence in the 20th century and contemporary Chinese art market, since money is
no longer an option while people are buying, selling, collecting and dealing artworks not only in
China but also all over the world. In less than twenty year s time, the contemporary Chinese art market
dramatically grew to an enviable position due to rapid expansion of economy, boasting with high
market confidence and a record of continued growth in comparison to other markets in the globe ...

Globalization and Commercialization of Art
The effect of globalization has changed the art market globally. International trade restriction has
eliminated. Civilizations are converging, both physically and virtually (via Internet and electronic
media). Despite the financial crisis, art and the other commodities such as gold, jewelry and wine have
retained the attention and confidence of the new investor especially in China (Kadhim, 2012). As a
result, artworks are traded as asset and have become more of a method that can generate acceptability
and credibility. In the general economic concept, process of production and consumption has four key
elements: production, distribution, exchange and consumption. Production creates products
corresponding to certain human needs. Distribution and exchange allocate the products to the final
consumers. However, artworks do not follow such process; they have become the direct objects to
individuals that appreciate and collect them. In other words, artworks create the consumers, and the
consumption of artworks creates the artists (Kadhim, 2012).
China is a fast emerging country with a consumer society with consumers developing a taste for
luxury goods. And art falls into this trend as well. The need of art in China currently seems like it is
driven by monetary considerations rather than aesthetic or cultural ones (Joy Sherry Jr., 2004). In
2014, China accounts for ¼ of

Biography of Nathaniel Hawthorne
The tall and mysterious Nathaniel Hawthorne is a man of little understanding. We know him for being
very secluded and alone much of the time. We also know he had many secrets that may have
accounted for the gloomy tone in his novels. He was a writer who did not believe in the game of small
talk and enjoyed losing himself to a world of this own creation. Many people might have thought that
Hawthorne came off as rude and uninteresting, but they had no idea of the masterpieces that laid
inside his head. The work of Nathaniel Hawthorne was most influenced by his solitary personality and
Puritan background. Born on July 4, 1804, in Salem, Massachusetts, Hawthorne was brought up by a
family with a long New England history. Hawthorne had many relations to significant Puritans and
judges of the Salem Witch Trials. Especially known is Hawthorne s great great grandfather, John
Hathorne, a judge who oversaw the Salem witch trials. He is also known for being one of the few who
never repented his actions. Because of his family background, Hawthorne added a w to his name once
he started publishing in order to distinguish himself. At the age of four, Hawthorne s father, a sea
captain, died of yellow fever, leaving his mother to raise him. His mother withdrew to a life of
seclusion, which she maintained till her death. The reclusive personality of Hawthorne s mother most
likely shaped his own personality as well. Even so, Hawthorne showed a love of writing early on, and
at the age of

  • 3. Theist Argument One of the first ways a theist might respond to this argument is by denying premise 1 because one might claim that Rowe has given no sufficient reason to believe that it is true. All that has been solved the theist believes is that there is evil in the world and that we don t know why or what the good is that can justify God in permitting such evil (Rowe, 2004, p.7). This line of argument is also known as the argument from ignorance. Could we, the theist argues, even comprehend the goods which permit much of this horrendous suffering given the infinite transcendence of Gods mind? (Rowe, 2004, p.7). They give the analogy of a parent and child. In the analogy, God is likened to us the way a loving parent is to their child. For ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, there is the problem of geography where suffering from natural disasters could have been more evenly distributed around the world by God, at present it is only happening in certain regions, most predominantly the third world countries (Tattersall, 2015, p.4). There is also the problem of quantity, the quantity of natural evil in our world is far too much to be explained by the advantageous effects of showing human virtues such as courage, compassion and love (Tattersall, 2015, p.4). Thus, it can be suggested that the evidential problem of evil does in fact show that evil is evidence against the belief in God, although it does not disprove his existence as this is not what I have set out to do here, it does significantly lower the probability that there is a God. We can therefore agree with Russel that: Because the hypotheses which are offered to save theism are unlikely on what we know, theism is defenseless against the evidential arguments from evil (Russell, 1996, ... • 4. Antony And Cleopatra Relationship Essay The relationship between Antony and Cleopatra is something we can only speculate about after analysing the writings from ancient history. The main written accounts of the couple come primarily from Roman writers, therefore are largely based on the cultural, political and possibly personal beliefs of the individuals who wrote them. An important similarity between the two passages would be that both were originally written in the early part of the second century CE, more than 150 years after the events took place (Fear, 2008, p. 9). This highlights the fact that we cannot take the information in these passages as true historical fact but rather the opinion of two Roman citizens whose preconceptions of Antony and Cleopatra have been formed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... by saying that Antony is living a life of royal luxury and pampers himself like a woman. In Plutarch s extract, the fault seems to lie upon Antony and his own moral failings. It shows his weakness in how he reacted to the emotional blackmail and manipulation by Cleopatra. If we take a closer look at Reading 1.1, it poses very sexist views of women. Much more emphasis is put on stating that a woman had done this to Antony and that he has been enslaved by her , taking away his control in the situation. In the end, both extracts show that toxic relationship of Antony and Cleopatra was the downfall of their political careers and ultimately cost them both their lives. By studying these historical texts, we see an example of how our own opinions and ideas play a part in how the reputations of people in history are created. Undoubtedly the account of Cleopatra and Antony will continue to evolve over time. At first glance, these two paintings seem very different to look at. It s clear that they are of the same genre of still life however the composition, colour range and possible meanings behind the artwork themselves, greatly differ. One of the most important differences would be the tonal range used in the two paintings. If we look at the Moillon painting, the tone appears quite wide, going drastically from dark to light as we see in the very dark background to the very light table top and oranges. This contrasts with Cézanne s work, as he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Elon University Experience College applications were filled out, SATs were taken, and Campbell University was not even a thought in the back of my brain. It s funny how things work out in the end. From the very beginning of college searching, Elon University was my top choice. This university had everything I was looking for: great academic programs, study abroad opportunities, and a sense of community, at least that s what I believed. Long story short, I was deferred from Elon until the Spring 2017 semester, taking that university out of the picture. The other schools I applied to and was accepted at, in order of next choice to last choice, were Wofford College, Mars Hill University, Wingate University, and Campbell University. I was also awarded scholarships ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In February, I received a letter from Campbell, inviting me to apply for more scholarships, 2 of which were full tuition. At first, I wasn t interested, but with encouragement from my family, I figured it was worth the shot, although, I still had no intention of attending Campbell. On the day of the interview, I was given a tour of the campus, had the opportunity to meet many friendly staff, and was informed of all the opportunities for students. Throughout the day, I decided that the only way I would go to Campbell was if I was awarded an additional scholarship. When I didn t receive the scholarship, I was still set on Wofford. It wasn t until I spent the weekend at Wofford that I began to have doubts about attending there. A few days before the enrollment deposit deadline of May 1, I was faced with the decision of Wofford or Campbell. The school I believed I was going to for the past several months or the school I never took a glance at. After evaluating my priorities, I decided that Campbell would be the place for me. I found that Campbell had many more opportunities for me to practice my faith and live in a Christian community. I ve already confirmed that I have and will continue to have so many campus ministry groups and worships to attend, something that I could not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gun Toting Subway Customer Gets Into Open Carry Dispute with Police In Connecticut, people can open carry so long as they have a permit and are carrying the permit with them in public. You cannot be arrested for simply carrying openly, and here is where the law gets murky. On one hand the law also states police officers can ask to see your permit and refusal to produce the permit can lead to an arrest because you interfered with police. On the other hand, the law states that police need a reasonable suspicion that a crime has been committed by the one carrying the weapon. This allows police to at any time reasonably assume a crime has been committed or will be committed by someone open carrying. Essentially, in Connecticut police can ask you for your papers at any time. Businesses are allowed to refuse service to anyone open carrying in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nadine Gordimer s Essay Once Upon A Time Nadine Gordimer s essay, Once Upon a Time, warns of the dangers of the apartheid movement with a cautionary tale wrapped in the guise of a bedtime story. Although Gordimer never mentions South Africa or the apartheid in Once Upon a Time, background research reveals she was a long time anti apartheid activist, a recipient of the Nobel Prize in Literature, and a resonating voice in South African politics. Frederick Douglass had many achievements throughout his life. His Life as a slave had a great impact on his writings. His great oratory skills left the largest impact on Civil War time period literature. All in all he was the best black speaker and writer ever. Douglass was born a slave in 1817, in Maryland. In reply, Douglass wrote Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass, An American Slave (1845), which he revised in later years: in final form, it appeared in 1882 under the title Life and Times Of Frederick Douglass. (Graves, 52 ) Frederick s oratory skills left the largest impact on Civil War time period literature. Douglass s most significant autobiographical works include: Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass, An American Slave: My Bondage And My Freedom: and Life And Times Of Frederick Douglass. These three books are about the same person, and share a similar message, but are written by Frederick at different times of his life, looking at the past in different ways. In Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass, Douglass used a simple, yet educated way to show how he felt as a slave growing up in Maryland. He describes in the Narrative I have often been so pinched with hunger as to dispute with old Nep, the dog, for the crumbs which fell from the kitchen table. (Douglass, 34) Douglass s Narrative was known as being a brief, descriptive (like his statement in the above lines), and easy to read piece of literature. It showed the hardships of slavery as seen by a real slave. The Household Codes were written during in ancient times under a Greco Roman government. When the historical context is recognized, the text will be interpreted in a way that the author had intended and not taken out of context. This is essential for modern interpreters of the Bible because the social location of the individuals in the present society is different from the individuals in antiquity. When interpreting the Bible, there are multiple methods that can be used and different presuppositions that the reader can bring to their understanding of the material. According to Hauer and Young, there are three complementary paths a modern reader can take in serious study of the Bible (Hauer, 1). One of these paths includes analyzing the historical world of the Bible. The historical world refers to the events and situations that form contexts for understanding the Bible as it was being written and interpreted (Hauer, 1). These refer to things such as wars or the type of government that is in control because that affects the audience of the writing and what issues within the community are being addressed by the writer. Even if her novels are all in prose and ``not in any obvious sense poetic (Allen 208), ``from its first appearance, critics have recognized the Lyricism of the McCullers narrative style, which can render even sordid subject matter in poetic terms (Griffith 209). This come from her first vocation which was music. One can find this constant presence of music in her novels: ballad and Negro song. This is a part of the spirit of the deep South she described in her work. As she was born in Georgia and most of her novels take place in the South, she is always connected with this region. Some people called her work gothic because of her characters who all have a physical or psychological deficiency. Even while his father is dead, he wants nothing to do with him and pushes away the memories he has of him. Okonkwo hates what his father is so much that he becomes the exact opposite. He is determined to succeed in whatever respect his father ha[s] failed ( Things Fall Apart ). With a dad like Unoka, he [does] not have the start in life which many young men ha[ve]. He neither [inherits] a barn nor a title, nor even a young wife (Achebe 18). • 14. Nep Vs Gp Essay A) How do the controls over NEP and NECB differ from the controls over GPP and decomposition? Why are these controls different? (Chapter 7) Net ecosystem carbon balance (NECB) is the net rate of carbon accumulation by an ecosystem. It is the change in ecosystem carbon stock over time. Net ecosystem production (NEP) is the total amount of carbon moving into an ecosystem minus the total respiration of the ecosystem (GPP Recosytem). Where gross primary productivity (GPP) is the sum of all photosynthetic activity measured at the ecosystem scale. Decomposition is the conversion of dead organic matter into CO2, mineral nutrients, and organic compounds through the processes of leaching, fragmentation, and chemical alteration. All of these concepts are interrelated and fit into NECB, but the controls differ in some substantial ways. GPP is controlled by amount of photosynthetic tissue, the duration of the activity (including environmental stressors), and soil resources (water and nutrients). This represents the largest carbon flux into the system and one of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the other hand, bacteria and archaea may only produce one or some of the necessary enzymes to break down these same compounds. For example, cellulose breakdown requires a suite of three different enzyme systems: endocellulases break down the internal bonds, the exocellulases remove the ends of the chains, this forms cellobiose, which can be absorbed, but is further broken down by cellobiase intercellularly to create ... However, when the pearl buyers try to swindle him and then send assassins to kill him, burn his house, and destroy his canoe, his perception of the pearl begins to shift. He very plainly puts, For his boat smashed, his baby dead, and the pearl cast into the sea, he has less when the story is over than he had when it started (140). Commentator Sydney Krause who takes a similar approach describes Kino s returning of the pearl to the sea as a desperate act of defeat at the hands of the pearl s evil nature (156). Stephen George calls Coyotito Kino s real pearl and writes that his death will follow Kino for the rest of his life (95). Kino does eventually rid himself of the pearl but not before it has destroyed almost everything that he cares for (Lisca 292). The loss of his livelihood, the death of his son, and the forfeiture of the pearl make Kino s position at the end of the novel seem morose. On the other hand, other critics see the novel as optimistic because they believe that Kino redeems himself when he throws the pearl back into the ocean. In the last paragraph of the novel, Steinbeck makes a hard shift from a deep melancholy tone to a calm peaceful tone a shift that has aroused the interests of many Steinbeck readers. He uses the word lovely and the color green multiple times in just a few sentences to show the peacefulness of the pearl s new resting place (90). This is due to their valuable lessons which relate the impact of technological history on society over a period of time. Two authors by the names of Robert J. Sawyer and Gary Marcus elaborate the connection between science fiction and ethics to technology which compares to Prometheus s myth. Sawyer explains the relationship in her essay The Purpose of Science Fiction in which he justifies that science fiction can portray the outcomes of future technology. Marcus justifies this connection in his essay Moral Machines when he describes how automated machinery should include ethical moralities in reference to how they are being used in real life scenarios. Sawyer and Marcus reveal the relationship of science fiction and ethics to technology which relates to the themes of Prometheus through science fiction and ethical motives. Prometheus was well known for giving the human race the gift of fire. He delivered fire to the world by stealing it from Zeus due to a conflict between the two. Prometheus was punished for his wrongdoing in which Zeus chained Prometheus to a boulder so an eagle would come to eat his liver every day. Prometheus s actions can represent a theme of progress in which he helps humans proceed around nature s boundaries. Humans encounter obstacles in their lives to achieve a better life and live comfortably, but the fire is the stepping stone to human success. Prometheus s gift to the world ... The Importance Of Gender Equality In The Military In a world where political correctness reigns supreme and gender equality are major concerns and talking points for a lot of people, there are some circumstances where gender equality just does not make sense. There are times when pushing for gender equality causes only harm and in fact, damages its own cause. In the Military, this has taken the form of pushing to have women be allowed to serve in front lines combat units. In the major political push for gender equality in all jobs, some of these pushes for change will cause only harm. Women should not be allowed to serve in front line combat units because of their biology they are physically incapable of the same things as men are, there will be unit cohesion problems that do not exist and there are health concerns for women have that men do not have. Beginning in early 2013, the Secretary of Defense chose to rescind the policy known as the Direct Combat Exclusion Rule (Batterton, Hale, Murphy, 2016). This policy is what restricted front line combat units to men only. After this policy was rescinded, the different branches of the Military have opened their training programs to allow women the chance to pass them. The problem with this is that along with opening these programs to women, they have had to modify the training programs to be gender neutral (Roulo, 2013). This means that if the standards are too high for women to pass, the tests would seem biased. However, if we lower them, then the recruits which pass the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The women s features are haggard, lined with advanced age and immensely serious. Their eyes bore into the viewer in a nonverbal challenge. For example, in Where I Lived, and What I Lived For he used morning and bathing as symbols for the point he was trying to get across. Thoreau referenced bathing as a religious exercise, and it was a method of renewing oneself, They say that characters were engraven on the bathing tub of King Tching thang to this effect: Renew thyself completely each day; do it again, and again, and forever again (Thoreau 102). Obviously whenever you take a bath you are not going to become a new person, but Thoreau is saying that bathing in the morning is refreshing and makes you feel fresher and more motivated throughout the day. To Thoreau morning was, A cheerful invitation to make my life of equal simplicity, and I may say innocence, with Nature herself (Thoreau 102). Her father died when she was young, and her husband died when she was thirty one leaving her with six children. Due to this, she had little male influence throughout her life. This may possibly be why she had so little inhibition when writing her novels. She seemed to concentrate on the oppression of women and presented socially unacceptable ideas at the time of their publication. As written in the novel, She had all her life long been accustomed to harbor thoughts and emotions which never voice themselves. They had never taken the form of struggles. They belonged to her and were her own, and she entertained the conviction that she had a right to them and that they concerned no one but herself. Edna had once told Madame Ratignolle that she would never sacrifice herself for her children, or for any one (79). Another example of Romanticism can be found in the way society treats life at the time. They are oblivious, especially the women, to the limits of their lifestyle. The society present in The Awakening paints a picture where they only see beautiful, vibrant colors. However, as Edna soon finds out, paint does not stay beautiful forever. As soon as he started first grade, he noticed a big change; a new dress code which makes him wear the same color of outfit as his classmates, a uniform. Many schools in the world use uniform in schools. Brunsma a sociologist at the Virginia university stated in his book that: The idea of requiring public school students to wear uniforms was first envisioned in the 1980s by then Washington, D.C., mayor Marion Barry, who believed standardized dress might help public school students succeed as well as those in the city s Catholic schools. The idea flopped, but in 1987, Cherry Hill Elementary School in Baltimore implemented the first known schoolwide uniform policy as a means of reducing clothing costs and social pressures on children, (David Brunsma 2004). Skepticism provides a more evaluative and complex response to the reductionist acquisition of knowledge by rejecting any form of absolute knowledge. Reductionism provides a holistic way to describe the functions of knowledge in theories proposed by Descartes, yet these functions can be further reduced to more obscure or even non existent causalities. More so, antireductionism is not a sufficient means of describing the underlying functions of knowledge, since it seeks to define the absolute foundations of a system of thought in a non holistic manner. This is why skepticism is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this form of rationalism, the process of discerning the parts of the whole becomes the method of validating knowledge, yet these compartmentalized methods can also be falsely interpreted through the senses. The skeptic would countermand this approach by arguing that the parts of knowledge can also be false and/or/ non existent, because they have the same subjective qualities as those found in the reductionist method. For example, Descartes might tell us that the existence of angels would prove the existence of God. Angels are a subset of God s power in heaven, which would assume that we do not need to directly prove the existence of God because of the existence of angels. However, Angles are also subjective literary figures in the Bible, which defines why antireductionist methods can be equally false. In this manner, Descartes argument about the existence of the mind is based on personal opinions related to the bible, which an antireductionist might utilize to validate an argument: A central Cartesian idea, then, is that we know ourselves and our own thoughts and experiences best (Week 5: Rationalism Notes, p.1). Generally men of this period wore heavily puffed clothing of a silk or thick cotton material. These also had the benefits of warming one up in a cold winter day. Layers were used in outfits to create a puffing image. The outfit would usually be completed with a fur, leather, or velvet hat. Because of Spain s growing empire, the influence from this region brought over a variety clothing styles. It seems that generally people back then all wore thick layers even in hot weather. Outfits were very structured and rigid, possibly due to preserving a straight back for great posture and manners. Many accessories were added to increase one s image and social stature. Usually, outfits included a black color. This is the first time that black is introduced into clothing. Black clothes would have the effect of making one seem sleeker in figure and it would complement many different colors of inside layers or accessories. Black has the great effect of highlighting colors on top of the mono color surface. People back then could have worn this color to show off their power by emphasizing the silver or gold jewelry. In this period of time, slimmer shoe designs were introduced for men. They would occasionally have ribbon decor on them in a puffing format. This made walking or doing daily activities easier because the shoes were more comfortable. Codpieces also became popular in men s fashion of this time. In women s fashion, dresses were more popular. In His Footsteps: Patrick was a humble, pious, gentle man, whose love and total devotion to and trust in God should be a shining example to each of us. So complete was his trust in God, and of the importance of his mission, he feared nothing not even death. The Breastplate, Patrick s poem of faith and trust in God: Christ be within me, Christ behind me, Christ before me, Christ beside me, Christ to win me, Christ to comfort and restore me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ inquired, Christ in danger, Christ in hearts of all that love me, Christ in mouth of friend and stranger. Legend credits St. Patrick with teaching the Irish about the doctrine of the Holy Trinity by showing people the shamrock, a three leafed plant, using it to illustrate the Christian teaching of three persons in one God. • 32. Gilgamesh Hero A Look at the Hero Gilgamesh In all of the story of Gilgamesh, he is portrayed as a somewhat perfect being. Being able to boast of his physical and godlike prowess among his subjects. However, do these two qualities make him that much more of a hero than other ancient hero s tales? Or even a hero at all? Gilgamesh s tales may have qualities that make him like a hero, yet compared to other definitions of a hero he may not stand up to the test of those who, like him, have had their stories told for all ages. As we examine Gilgamesh s story we will see that in physical, personal characteristics, and accomplishments, he might be more of a hero than most of us think he is. First we will examine what the story of Gilgamesh provides us to show ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This may be the reason why in this modern era we may not see him as the hero that the ancients did. When we think of the modern hero we think of someone who is courageous, who fights evil for truth and justice. In the ancient times we see that your accomplishments where what made you a legendary hero not just what you fought for. We can see this especially in the first tablet of Gilgamesh. From the first few lines of the text we see that his accomplishments are praised rather than his ethics. The book says Exploring the furthest reaches of the Earth ... Reaching in his might Utanapishtim the Distant one, Restorer of holy places (Foster, tablet I). Just by these few lines of the book we can see that one was judged by their actions and accomplishments not the way they carried themselves. In the modern age we like to see a hero who both has great accomplishments as well as a good moral stature. Which is why we may not see Gilgamesh as one of our true heroes. Gilgamesh as a whole is one of ancient time s classic heroes. He has all the qualities of the classic Roman and Greek heroes. His many accomplishments do hold some credit as being of heroic value, and even in our own time he does hold some heroic qualities. • 33. Error Theory And Non-Naturalism Analysis The most prominent objection to error theory is the moral realist theory of ethical non naturalism. While error theory and non naturalism share two defining features, their fundamental differences could not be greater. Non naturalism is built on the same initial claim as error theory; both views agree that ethical sentences assert moral truths. Both outlooks also agree that moral properties are unlike any natural property known to exist, meaning they are not reducible to non moral features. Non naturalists, however, differ from error theorists in their belief that some moral truths asserted through ethical sentences are actually true despite their queer properties. Furthermore, they believe that moral truths are objective and cannot be influenced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He calls upon philosopher David Hume s argument that reason can never be an influencing motive of the will (40). The Humean Theory of Motivation is centered around the idea moral motivation cannot arise from moral belief alone but must depend as well upon a preexisting desire or other intrinsically motivating state (Rosati). Preexisting desires do not provide actual moral motivation, the moral belief just happens to be in accordance with a desire that is likely the main incentive for completing the action. That leaves intrinsic motivation as the only option. Weak motivational internalism offers a valid alternative to Mackie s motivational requirements of moral truths. Conflicting desires do sometimes overpower morality, leading people to engage in behavior/events they feel are morally wrong. Mental illnesses such as depression can also suppress motivation to abide by certain moral values. The only viable response to these points is Mackie s claim that the Form of the Good provides an end with to be pursuedness that is not dependent on the desires of the individual. Thus, the fact that it is possible for these individuals to override their moral beliefs only further proves that these beliefs did not come from objective ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Research Paper On Atherosclerosis Introduction Atherosclerosis is the other name for arteriosclerosis, which means arterial hardness. Arteries carry blood from the heart to the other parts of the body. Healthy arteries are flexible, sufficiently elastic and strong. Arterial stiffness is common in everyone as they age, which can lead to restriction of blood flow to the vital organs. This decrease in blood flow might result in heart attack and stroke. This article discusses various strong and good scientific evidences of dietary supplements used for preventing and treating Atherosclerosis. Accumulation of fat, LDL cholesterol and calcium in the arterial walls leads to Atherosclerosis. The accumulated plaque might block the flow of blood in the artery leading to the loss of blood and oxygen supply to the vital organs. The blocking of blood flow by the clot results in deep vein thrombosis in the legs and pulmonary embolism in lungs. With the preparations for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, one of the preparations was to build a new stadium to host the games and in 2012, Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) won the stadium commission through an international competition (Dezeen, 2015a). Soon after ZHA bid won, they started work on the site and after two years, and after Japan had won the bid to host the 2020 Olympics, the controversy began with the main argument against the project being that the architectural design was over budgeted and that it could not be financially sustainable. Following the building of a model, the results of the experiment tell whether the theory correctly explained the phenomenon in question. Even in the case of the physical sciences, the construction of a model requires assumptions to be made, leading to the model omitting certain, preferably unimportant effectors. Preferences represent subjective evaluation of options by the agent, they are contextualised (the choice is between consumption bundles rather than individual goods) and bear a number of assumptions about their nature. These include asymmetry, transitivity, completeness; and ranking all lotteries involving alternatives, ranking all compound lotteries involving initial lotteries, ranking all compound lotteries involving all compound lotteries, and so on ad infinitum (stated as further requirements on rationality theory by John von Neumann and Oskar Morgenstern). • 48. How Scientists Can Most Efficiently Complete Organ... Abstract: The purpose of this experiment is to test how scientists can most efficiently complete organ printing. In this lab, the cells will be suspended in a substrate called sodium alginate collagen, hydrogel, and other reactants. These materials will react to then embed the cells to their goal location. Then, the cells will be able to be fixated into layers. These layers will then come together and form tissues, which according to biological organization will form organs. The inkjet bioprinter allows for this to occur. Tiny ink droplets form a digital design for the organ printing, and in horizontal sheets, the organ is created tissue by tissue. This lab will test to see which percent concentration of the sodium alginate collagen composite will prove to be most effective when organ printing. The dependent factor that will determine the conclusion will be the percent of efficiency of cell survival rate. Four trials will be completed in which the same organ is printed and all factors are kept constant, except for the percent concentration of the substrate. Introduction: In the past, the only way to replace diminished cells, tissues, and organs was from organ transplantation. An organ donor was needed, and the tissues would be surgically removed from the donated body and placed into the recipient. Due to the current research being conducted, it is believed that tissue engineering and organ printing can contribute to the process of improving and saving lives. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
