An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding, Section 10 Essay
In Hume s 1748 publication: An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding , Section 10 is titled Of
Miracles. This section is an extended argument against the veracity of miracles. In response to Hume,
Richard Price published Four Dissertations in 1768. In Dissertation IV, The Importance of
Christianity, the Nature of Historical Evidence and Miracles, Price outlines a Bayesian argument
against Hume s conclusions that miracles cannot ever occur.
My thesis is that Price s Bayesian argument, arguably the first use of Bayes Theorem to challenge
another published argument fails. It fails on three fronts: it mischaracterizes Hume s argument as non
conditional; it improperly employs a Bayesian model test case of newspaper reporting; and it does not
consider the effects of the preliminary seeding of probabilities for its Bayesian model of miracles.
1.0 Hume s Argument Against Miracles
Hume s argument is multi faceted but most commentators (Millican, Earman) agree that the key
summary occurs in paragraph 13.
The plain consequence is (and tis a general maxim worthy of our attention) That no testimony is
sufficient to establish a miracle, unless the testimony be of such a kind, that its falsehood would be
more miraculous, than the fact, which it endeavours to establish... (E 10.13)
This first quote establishes a simple probability model of a miracle occurring (Miracle Happening:
MH) given a true testimony about that event (True Testimony: TT) and Hume argues that it must be

The Role Of Domestic Violence In Professional Sports
Growing amounts of societal issues such as domestic violence and substance abuse have recently put
the leagues in the public eye. Sports leagues like the NFL, MLB, NHL, and NBA should impose
stricter penalties to deal with egregious conduct of professional athletes. The inappropriate behavior
from athletes reflects poorly on the leagues and teams. The leagues should have standard protocol that
comprises the diverse forms of unacceptable actions that currently plague their leagues. It is
problematic to suspend the athletes who dedicate their lives to competing professionally in a sport that
requires sacrifices from both family as well as the athlete themselves. But if the athlete shows that
they believe that they re above the law, education and adverse consequences become necessary. The
athletes are role models for their followers. Young fans are easily swayed and ... Show more content

This is the time. There s no watching the process play out anymore, not with a superstar like Kane, not
after what the NFL went through last year on the topic of allegations of violence against women, not
after the strange, troublesome allegations about the evidence bag (Christine Brennan) How can we live
in a society where an alleged rapist is allowed to continue to work? Nonetheless, The NHL was
unprepared for the first time rape allegation of a superstar that they made a thoughtless and insensitive
decision by not suspending Kane indefinitely with pay? Hence, not suspending Kane for such a
serious allegation establishes the league does not take rape and sexual assault charges as momentous
decisions. With the growing trend of domestic violence in the NFL as arrests and felonies become
more frequent. Astonishingly, Christian Jones of UWIRE revealed the relative extent of their

Walmart Trespass Warnings
On the above date and time I was conducting a business check of Walmart. While conducting the
business check, I was alerted by Walmart Loss Prevention Officer, Marion Edwards, that a White,
GMC Yukon, that was missing the front bumper was involved in an attempted theft of a coffee maker
approximately two weeks prior. Edwards requested that I make contact with the vehicle, which was
parked in row #7 in the Walmart parking lot. Edwards was requesting that I issues a trespass warnings

Edwards advised me that Walmart wanted the vehicle removed from the property. Edwards then called
a tow company to have the vehicle removed from the property. Both Brasch and Stewart were issued
trespass warnings per Edwards request. I advised both subjects that they would be arrested if the
returned to Walmart, located at 8701 U.S. Highway 19 in Port Richey. Steward acknowledged, and she
signed the trespass warning before leaving the scene with Brasch s cell phone (per her request).
Brasch later signed the trespass warning at central booking. While en route to central booking, Brasch
admitted that she was the driver of the vehicle from the theft that occurred several weeks prior.
Furthermore, Brasch advised me that the subject who attempted to steal the coffee maker was her ex
boyfriend, identified as Stephen Martin Genualdi. Edwards later confirmed that Genualdi was the
subject who attempted the theft by his last arrest photo on the Pasco County Sheriff s Office website.
However, Edwards declined to prosecute. Brasch was transported to central booking for processing

Glass History
Sensitive touch of the fragment glass as it is being put away into the cabinets, with a loose grip and it
shatters in a billion little sharp sparkling crystals along the hard wooden floor. Glass was evolving
throughout history from the Stone Age to now more developed human being that transformed glass
into everyday use, whether that is just drinking a cold glass of water in the morning. The evolution of
glass flashes through time in the thresholds that have gone throughout history that are known today in
the scientific and historic fields. Glass chemical elements are sodium carbonate, silicon dioxide, lead
oxide, potassium oxide and calcium oxide, but there is one element on the periodic table that makes
glass an object that is known for today. Silicon in glass is the main recipe that is found in sand. The
sand has to be a certain temperature in order to become glass, which is approximately of 2,900 degrees
Fahrenheit that turns into liquid sand. The temperature is hotter than molten lava, however where does
this sand come from? This pictacular sand comes from molten lava where obsidian was found. Stone
age people used an extrusive igneous rock obsidian that was used for knives and spears, so glass was
naturally used before glass expanded in Mesopotamia 3500 BC. ... Show more content on

Roman Gladiators Essay
Gladiator
Gladiatorial events were a token of the Roman civilization. A brutal form of sacrifice adapted from the
earlier civilization of Etruscans, who believed when a person dies, his spirit relies on a blood sacrifice
to survive in the afterlife. The first event to take place in Rome was in 264 BC, when Decimus Brutus
held a sacrifice to honor his dead father (Roman Gladiator). Soon after these events became an
undeniable part of the Romans lives, used for political power and general entertainment. A gladiators
life was far from easy. Most were slaves, prisoners of war, or hardened criminals, therefore they were
not free men. Often times they were trained and forced to take part in the events, hoping for their

An individual on average would fight about three times a year, and for the rest of the time travel with
the troop. The troops swore an oath to their master, and traveled from city to city looking for work
(Roman Gladiator). The social class of the Gladiators was rather ironic in itself. On one hand they
were considered slaves, that s the lowest class in a social structure, but on the other hand, some gained
popularity and were looked upon as great warriors and heroes. Some rose to celebrity status in a short
time as in the movie when Maximus became a hero to the public eye, worthy of praise of greater
importance than even the king himself. In the movie this was a direct result in the downfall of
Commodus, but this isn t factual, as Maximus is a fictional character. It just demonstrates the
influence the Gladiators had on the public eye, he was the ‘Rockstar of the Roman Empire . Like
anything else, these shows were often times politically based to gain support for an Emperor. Aside
from this they made for great entertainment to divert ones thoughts away from everyday troubles.
What a better way than to see masses of people brutally slaughtered. In reality and the movie alike, the
gladiators wore crude armor, not of military status to depict the difference in class. Nonetheless they

Humorous Journeys
It is November 15, 2016. I look out my window hoping that don t see the blazing hot sun ripping
through my white curtains almost taunting me. All I see is the clouds laying low on the mountain tops

pull off the what seemed to be my morning happiness and go to the restroom.

Lymphatic Cancer
The lymphatic system helps to protect us from infection and disease. It s part of the body s immune
system. Lymph fluid passes through lymph nodes which are connected by a network of lymph vessels.
The nodes are found throughout the whole body. My understanding of the lymphatic system is that it
is a one way drainage process that transports fluid from your body s tissues into the blood circulation,
it fights infections and gets rid of waste products produced by your cells. Lymph fluid normally flows
through the network of lymph vessels that connect to a group of lymph nodes. The nodes, which are
about the size of a baked bean and are located in specific parts of your body act as a filter, destroying
or trapping anything harmful that the body ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But where the tissue could be degenerated through extensive exposure to toxins it can cause the cells
to divide and reproduce so that it creates a mass of the cells, ultimately a tumour. This tumour then
takes over the tissue. Extensive exposure to toxins can lead to this build up of cancerous cells and
weakened defence from the tissue. Our lymphatic system here is paramount as it helps to shift toxins
from the body so that they are flushed out of the body. If the lymphatic system though is damaged or
struggling in any way it cannot perform this function. If an area of the body is constricted over a long
period of time or there is a tightening or pressure applied to it regularly such as ill fitting clothes or
tight bras then this can constrict the lymphatic flow cause blockages and build up of toxins that would
normally flow out of the body easily. This restriction and blockage means that less oxygen and fewer
nutrients are delivered to where they are needed. Ultimately, long term starvation of the tissues and
accumulation of toxins can lead to degeneration, which is linked to cancer, and often linked to breast
cancer for

The Great Depression And The Civilian Conservation Corps...
The Great Depression decimated the economy in the 1930s. Specifically, men of the workforce
experienced layoffs, the loss of incomes resulted in inability to purchase goods, the low demand led to
oversupply, and the cycle restarted by employers cutting more jobs. In an effort to combat the
depression, Franklin D. Roosevelt ignited the New Deal: a plan to revive the failing economy. One
program, titled the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), assisted successfully in gradually rekindling
the workforce. In addition, the CCC influenced future decisions on similar situations such as granting
employment following the 2008 economic recession.
The CCC was a labor act established in 1933. It decreased the unemployment rate over 9 years by
providing jobs to unemployed, young men affected by the Great Depression. Jobs provided by the
CCC included contributions to park development, natural and historic site preservation, and forest
management. In return for the work, the employees received a small income, education, and, in some
cases, shelter. However, in 1934, government officials such as the assistant secretary of war, Harry H.
Woodring, believed this program appeared ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

on granting funds for the continuing workforce. It refrained from military training seen in the CCC

placing young men and women into summer employment to gain occupational experience. The
programs also offered a more desirable pay rate in comparison. Rather than a meager, unfulfilling

Sao Paulo Research Paper
Sao Paulo is a megalopoly, has around 19 million inhabitants, with its mobility issues around 7 million
cars and poor public transport infrastructure. The real estate speculation made the city grow with
hardly any urban planning and very few and far apart parks. Green areas were seen and reserved to
leisure time and not a necessary part for the city the lack of contact with nature and it is evident there.
The fact is almost no one know there is urban agriculture in Sao Paulo, even with its many problems
few initiatives are dotted around the city. The difference there is, while in developed countries urban
farming is somewhat seen as a new back to nature trend, in developing countries and places like Sao
Paulo this trend goes beyond that: it provides a vital source of nutrition and revitalization of an area. ...

Dialysis clinics like DaVita and Fresenius, being the two largest for profit corporations are fighting
against a proposed Senate Bill No.349 (SB 349, 2017) that would necessitate dialysis clinics in
California to have a mandated minimum staffing requirement. Furthermore, SB 349 (2017), as
authored by Senator Ricardo Lara, would also require that dialysis clinics to provide patients with
forty five (45) minute transition time, and frequent inspection be done yearly instead of every five to
six years (SB 349, 2017). With this regulation in place, patients will be provided with a higher level of

On the contrary, according to Yoder, et al (2013), higher RN per patient have been associated with
improved patient outcomes in acute care facilities , which, if applied to chronic dialysis clinics could
also result in positive patient outcomes. In addition, section 1.e of the legislation pointed out that
worker safety is also enhanced by higher ratios of caregiving staff to patients and transition time
between patients, including by reducing the risk of injury on the job (SB 349, 2017).
However, a regulation like this cannot be without opposition from large for profit corporations and
other interested parties. In fact, The California Dialysis Council legislative office mentioned in the
article Opposition to Mandated Staffing Ratios in Dialysis Clinics SB 349 that mandated ratios will do
patients more harm than good (Foy, K. Arnold, M., 2017). Furthermore, Foy and Arnold (2017) also
stated that the mandated ratios will result in increased cost, leading to facility closures, and limited
patient access to treatment (Foy Arnold, 2013).
However, SB 349 (2017) aims to regulate facilities so they could provide better patient care and
prolong the lives of those who are dependent on life saving measures like dialysis. Patients deserve
better treatment and should not be counted as numbers or costs. Facilities are not inspected as

Theme Of Individualism In Walt Whitman s Leaves Of Grass
Individualism is important. This statement is made clear in Walt Whitman s book, Leaves of Grass,
published in 1855. Leaves of Grass is a poetry collection composed in the nineteenth century, during
the Westward Expansion. Contrary to popular poetic style in that period, Whitman wrote in free verse,
meaning there was little to no rhyming or tempo. Individualism is a theme that sets the tone of
Whitman s poems. Whitman uses the literary devices of repetition, asyndeton, imagery, and conflict to
create the idea of individualism to set the tone. The repetition present in Whitman s works contributes
significantly to the theme of his poems. Repetition can be used to emphasize differences; moreover, it
can stress the individuality of every person. Whitman s work, I Hear America Singing, is an example
of emphasizing differences, with lines 2 4 being, Those of mechanics, each one singing his as it should
be blithe and strong, /The carpenter singing his as he measures his plank or beam, /The mason singing
his as he makes ready for work, or leaves off work,... Singing what belongs to them, each has a unique
song that only appertains to them. Similarities do appear in the repetition of Whitman s works,
revealing that this literary device can create an effect of resemblance between ideas. Taken from O
Me! O Life! is lines 2 3, Of the endless trains of the faithless, of cities fill d with the foolish, /Of
myself forever reproaching myself, (for who more foolish

This makes me think she has no one to talk to and that her father is just there. Why doesn t she count
her father as family? The image makes it look like her father is not emotionally connected to her and
she need more love in her life. The reason why I can connect and relate to the book is because I only
have a mother. I grew up in a single parent household. My father pasted away when I was Twelve
years old. I didn t even know my father that well even in those Twelve years. I can relate with Opal
not being able to recall anything about a parent. My mother doesn t talk about my father so it is hard
to know things and to know what and how she is thinking. Opal can relate to this because her father
doesn t talk much about her mother either. Whenever my mother does say something I will keep it in

Examples Of Imperfection
Imperfection is not the opposite of perfection, as if it is a state not to be desired. Instead, imperfection
is the state of acceptance of self through love. Without seeing who you truly are, you won t know what
to change and what to keep. Perfectionism just throws everything out the window. Here are five ways
to truly be free by letting yourself live as you are.
I am Me
Accept me as I am is a battle cry. It doesn t mean that you won t change detrimental habits because
you are embracing who you are. It also doesn t mean that you are promoting laziness or lack of
ambition. What it does mean is that you have taken a look inside of yourself and seen who the person
inside truly is. There are things that you like about yourself and also things that you don t, but it all
works together to become the person that you are today.
True change in your life is an act of love. You can lose weight when you love who you are right now

Imperfection says that the only way through is with love on board. Accepting and embracing you by
celebrating why you are unique. It is getting reacquainted with yourself through a few steps that show
the value that was there all along.
5 Ways to Imperfect Freedom
Take some serious time for introspection Don t be afraid to look at yourself honestly. Write down what
is positive and what is negative in your eyes. Find ways to change the wording of those negatives so
they are now positives that you can embrace. If you think that your ankles are big, find shoes to wear
that minimize their appearance as such.
Discover what you like to do and don t like to do Don t be afraid to say no to events or activities that
don t foster your interests just because it s a cool or acceptable thing to do.
Try something new Try bold colors for clothing or change your hairstyle. There s nothing wrong with
experimenting with new looks to accentuate your positives and give yourself a confidence

Desert Storm Significance
Significance of Air Defense from Desert Storm to Present
In the events of Desert Strom, the most impactful and successful missile system, the Patriot, was
successful thanks to German created air missile defense. Research and development of this system
began in the early 1940s as a product of the Cold War. The United States and Soviet Union used
German rocket scientist, who had been captured at the ends of World War two, to create Ballistic
missiles. These missiles were made from the V 2 rocket and German surface air missile named
Wasserdall. Although this system of defense was unable to be tested in the field before the war ended.
Twenty years later, the Soviet Union was able to bring to field the first Russian tactical ballistic
missile. Due to the development and research of this missile, it opened the doors wider for the Patriot
in the 1960s. By 1967 a missile was to carry either a warhead of nuclear or conventional power known
as the Surface To Air Missile Development (SAM D). Two years later in 1969, an American missile

Differences Between Peet s Coffee And Dunkin Doughnuts
My project will be on the differences between Peet s Coffee and Dunkin Doughnuts. I have pondered
about what makes these coffee shops different from one another. During my exploration on Wabash
Avenue, I came to the conclusion that location is important regarding customer population in stores. I
also realized the importance of customers, customer service, store management, and store atmosphere.
Because of my project I got to understand what my topic truly was. At first, I thought that it would be
based completely off of location. Throughout time though, I realized that I would discuss how the
effect of a store s environment depends more on the store s management than the location itself.
Management plays a key role in the store itself. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wabash is located in South Loop. Wabash surrounds Columbia College and restaurants. In the 1960 s
Wabash was flooded with all sorts of shops and people. In the present time mostly college students
roam on Wabash. In the past there were all ages on Wabash. I have this knowledge from the photos I
discovered at the Harold Washington Library. One particular photo stuck out to me out of the 6 I
observed. The photo was of crowded adults waiting to get into a christmas shop on Wabash. It stuck
out to me because it showed how even back then customers still got excited to buy new products. In
present day we do the same. Waiting for the next updated Iphone or to go black friday shopping to get
the best deals. Which shows how important management can be by, promoting new products to bring
in customers and get business. Peets and Dunkin each have posters to show off their new beverages or
deals that they have in store. For example, Dunkin has a special between 2 and 6pm for 2 dollar iced
drinks. These posters really work because of their location being right where college students are.
College students love their coffee. In other words the location is easy and convenient for them. It s all
about convenience for customers. If the coffee shops were really out of the way and not by campuses.
The shops would not have that much business because it is not in a convenient location and their
advertisements would not be seen. After everything considered I got to interview a

Little Women During The American Civil War
Families whether they are big or small have different social norms and interact with each other very
differently. Some families are very open with each other, while others are very closed. A change
within a family unit has an effect on the family s dynamic and how the family members interact with
each other. American culture reflects this in the belief that families are changed either positively or
negatively by major emotional events.
The family unit can be described in many different ways. Sometimes the family unit, like in Little
Women by Louisa May Alcott, consists of everyone that is blood related. The family unit can also
extend past genetic barriers and represent big groups such as everyone in the United States of
America. The family unit is not exclusive of a specific classification of the members.
In Little Women, the March family had to adjust due to emotional events in their family during the
American Civil War period. Little Women is a novel set in the early 1860s about a family, which
consists of Mr. and Mrs. March, and their four daughters, Meg, Jo, Amy and Beth. Jo, the second
oldest child, is the protagonist in the book. She does not like change and during the book her world
changes beyond her control. Early in the book all four sisters, even though they were not all the same
age, were open to each other and told each other everything. Their father was away fighting in the
Civil War. America was experiencing troubles and went into war, which

Dove Controversial Adverts
This article was about the controversial ad Dove came out with a couple of months ago. It involves a
black woman taking off her shirt and revealing a white woman underneath. This ad received a lot of
criticism and backlash. The first time I saw this I was on Instagram. I couldn t believe Dove would do
that knowing the society which we live in. People are fighting for justice and equality for the black. It
s shocking they would be ignorant enough to put out this ad. After doing some research, I saw the
whole video. People had taken only one specific part of the ad. No one included the part when the
white woman pulls her shirt up, then another woman of a darker complexion is revealed underneath.
Was this ad trying to say that black is

The Prince After The English Civil War
Changes in political views are usually done under the pretense of social and political mayhem.
Niccolo Macchiavelli wrote his book The Prince after having assisted in the creation of a republic in
Florence at a time when several Italian states were fighting for control. Philosopher Thomas Hobbes
wrote his work The Leviathan under the English Civil War when it was clear that the king was not
able to keep his people safe. These backdrops of political unrest helped mold both philosophers
attitudes toward both the government and the people living under it. Machiavelli saw the stability of
the state with utmost importance, using any technique available such as deception to keep it together.
Hobbes on the other hand saw government as a solution to the brutish and dangerous state of nature
that all men originally find themselves in, creating a system for people to opt in as long as they do not
attempt to undermine the sovereign. Niccolo Machiavelli is seen as a cut throat political theorist who
is often cited when talking about the immorality of politics. While this argument may be a little heavy
handed, his views on treachery and deceit certainly play a role in how critics have viewed him over
the last 500 years. A repeated theme in his book is his willingness to break promises that go against
your interest. Machiavelli believes wholeheartedly that a ruler [is never] short of legitimate reasons to
justify breaking his word. (Ch. 18 p. 3) For example, Machiavelli often

Living With A Hypochondriac Essay
How to Live with a Hypochondriac
Hypochondria is not only difficult for the person living with it, but also for those who love and care
for the hypochondriac. Here we will look at some ways to make living with a hypochondriac easier.
Helping Someone with Hypochondria
1. Understand that hypochondria creates very real distress. Hypochondria is a mental disorder (just
like depression or OCD) and a real illness. Even if the illness they think they have is not real, their
stress and duress are very real to them.
(https://www.psychologytoday.com/articles/200912/hypochondria the impossible illness) Severe
illness seems like a serious possibility to your loved one, and bland reassurances won t make it go

Hypochondria.
*Hypochondria may be treated with antidepressants or anti anxiety medications, and/or psychological
therapy. Make arrangements for the person to see a therapist around once a week if possible.
*Cognitive Behavioral Therapy may be an effective approach beyond traditional counseling
(http://content.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,490690,00.html) as well as gradual exposure
therapy. (in sub steps explain a few of the accepted treatments for hypochondria)
3. Discuss the possibility of comorbid issues. People with hypochondria may also experience anxiety
disorders and/or depression. Consider getting your loved one screened for these conditions as well.
* If your loved one is nervous, assure them that the screening just means filling out a form about their
symptoms. Remember fear is a big part of the disorder but listening to their concerns will often help
with this.
4. Attend support groups for this condition.
*They generally are support groups offered for both the person with the condition and the family
support members. Make sure to ask the professional treating the hypochondriac if they are ready for a

My Psychology Course And Remembered About The Cerebral...
I decided to write my literature after going through one of the textbooks in my physiological
psychology course and remembered about the cerebral hemispheres, which receives sensory
information from opposite sides of the body. This got interested in the topic of cerebral hemispheres
and sensory information after a split brain operation. The split brain procedure is a surgical operation
that s used for people that have severe epilepsy that can t be controlled by the drugs they take. In the
brains of people with severe epilepsy, the nerve cells on one side of the brain are overactive and the
overactivity is relayed to the other side by the corpus callosum, a bundle of nerve cells that connect
certain parts of one side of the brain to the other. The corpus callosum enables the left and right side of
the brain to share information so that both sides knows what the other is doing and perceiving. Both
sides of the brain engage in out of control activity that stimulate each other, causing stereotypical
seizures that recur throughout the day preventing the person from living a normal life. Neurosurgeons
have discovered that severing the corpus callosum greatly reduces the often recurring seizures.
After the brain split procedure, the brain is divided into two hemispheres that work independently of
each other. Their sensory mechanisms, and motor systems no longer relay information. To the casual
observer they disconnection isn t obvious for the elementary reason that one hemisphere

Essay On Non Traditional Students
The dynamic of University environment has changed over the course of the last decade, with
nontraditional students encompassing between 50 and 75% of the undergraduate population. These
nontraditional students possess the responsibility and self regulation that is not commonly found in the
traditional University student, as displayed in a research study performed by H. B. Slotnick, M. H.
Pelton, and L. Tabor. Their motivation for education relies in their personal interests and satisfactions,
job improvements, employment requirements, and their own perception of personal value. This differs
from the research performed by M. Knowles, which shows that conventional students depend on
external motivation, and lack the self regulation found in nontraditional students. The focus was then
shifted to the adult learning style, and how greatly it differs between younger generations. A study
held in Auburn University in Montgomery used two main investigative questions as the basis of their
research:
What motivational factors, distinguish between students who attend a traditional or non traditional
campus?
What differences, if any, are there in learning strategies of the students who attend a traditional or non
trational campus?
The study sampled individuals from two separate campuses filling the demographic of traditional
students (ages 18 22), and non traditional students (ages 23 and older). The first sample was derived
from Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) student population.

Summary Of Mother Who Gave Me Life By Gwen Harwood
The poem Mother Who Gave Me Life by Gwen Harwood, is about the speaker s mother and her life
that is near death. This focused universal thematic concern of motherhood is conveyed through a
reflective tone, as the speaker is seen to acutely contemplate her mother s life and the wisdom she has
been taught. Gwen Harwood uses a eulogy structure to undertow the reader s focus to the praise the
speaker has for her mother. As well as creatively embedding the use of enjambment, repetition and
metaphors, Harwood attempts to convey the emotion of the speaker reconciling her final moments
with her mother.
The reflective tone of the poem plays an important part in substantiating the eulogy structure
represented through the speaker. The importance of the title and implementations of enjambment as
well as a past tense structure help communicate the reflective tone of the poem. What define a
reflective tone is how it illustrates the emotions and thoughts of the speaker. The use of enjambment
offers an insight to the reader of the reflective, as thoughts can often be free flowing, just as
enjambment is deemed to be. By Harwood utlising enjambment throughout the poem, implies how the
speaker is reflecting on change throughout life. As the speaker matures throughout the poem, she
learns the maternal roles and how they change through generations ... Show more content on

The Pathophysiology Of Celiac Disease
Celiac disease is a T cell mediated, autoimmune, genetic illness that targets the small intestine in
which the absorption of nutrients, particularly fats, is impaired. The disease has been described as a
permanent intolerance to ingested gluten that damages the small intestine, characteristically inducing
crypt hyperplasia and villous atrophy, and typically resolves with removal of gluten from the diet.
(AJN 34). Celiac disease appears to be more prevalent in women than in men. Genetic and immune
factors are known to play a role in its development. People that have a family member with celiac
disease and people that have autoimmune disorders are at higher risk to develop celiac disease. This
paper outlines the pathophysiology of celiac disease, discusses signs and symptoms, the four disease
types, describes testing, treatment, addresses the differences between gluten free diet and a diet
containing gluten, the use of dietary supplements, and vitamin D status.
Most absorption of nutrients occurs in the small intestine. The mucosa of the small intestine is
arranged in microscopic folds, which in turn contain even smaller finger like projections called villi.
The cells of the villi are covered with microscopic hairs, microvilli, projecting from the cell
membrane. The folds, villi, and microvilli of the intestinal mucosa provide a huge surface area for
nutrient absorption. Cells of the intestines are specialized to absorb different nutrients. Readily
digested nutrients are

Frankenstein Novel Analysis Essay

partly an epistolary novel. In what way do the letters at the beginning of the text help frame the story
that follows? The series of letters at the beginning of Frankenstein by Mary Shelley are from Robert
Walton, and were sent to his sister, Margaret Saville. In each letter, Walton tells his sister of updates
while he s on one of many sea trips and to coincide with that, readers of the novel get a glimpse of the
personal turmoil he is facing. On his trip, Walton meets a stranger who he thinks can be the one to
help aid in his feeling of loneliness and isolation. So not only does finding out more about the stranger

So that s why when he encountered the stranger, he immediately found a sense of comfort in confiding
in him because he finally satisfied his need for companionship. In Frankenstein s situation, he too was
seeking a friend because he shared Walton s desire for companionship. The parallel storylines between
a human and a monster make it evident that the two beings, though physically different, may not be as
contrasting as initially thought. Frankenstein is a story within a story. What effect does this technique
have upon the narrative? The story within a story technique can also be called frame story/narrative. In
Frankenstein, this technique helps introduce different characters as well as their perspectives. Through
the letters written by Robert Walton to Margaret Saville, readers learn about Victor Frankenstein and
his creation s story. If one thinks about it, this novel actually has many layers, and can be referred to as
a story within a story that s within another story. The reason being is in Walton s letters, we learn of
Victor Frankenstein and his adversity when he created the monster, which is the last narrative the
readers experience. To restate, this technique brings together the individual stories of Walton, Victor
and Frankenstein in many ways that overall become clearer in the initial letters Mary Shelley uses in
the beginning of the novel. Explain the purposes of each of the following characters in the story. Why
does Shelley need them? How are they

Tight Junctions
Although food poisoning might not seem as a critical threat, it can cause severe illness and sometimes
even lead to death. The infection is mediated by pathogens which invades the host through utilizing
the epithelial cells in organs (Schneeberger and Lynch, 2004). The epithelial cells are composed of
tight junctions, which are located between each cell. It consists of water proof connected proteins that
act as a barrier separating the external cellular contents from the internal. Proteins such as claudin,
occludin, etc play an important role in the regulation of ions and molecules traveling through the cells
(Schneeberger and Lynch, 2004). Although tight junctions provide a barrier for the epithelial cells, its
permeability can be jeopardizing by foreign pathogens. The purpose of this study is to ... Show more

Previous studies have shown that bacteria such as Escherichia coli have contributed to diarrhea among
children across the world (Kreisberg et al., 2010). E coli produce particular heat liable toxins, STb,
which has been responsible for diarrheas in many farm animals through the induction of intestinal
barrier dysfunction (Kreisberg et al., 2010). Another study had also investigated the alterations in tight
junctions after E coli infection in vivo. The investigation concluded that the tight junction proteins,
claudin and occludin, were dislocated from the cellular membrane (Zhang et al., 2010). The integrity
of the tight junction proteins in vitro can be observed by utilizing the transepithelial electrical
resistance (TER). The electrical resistance determines the confluence of the epithelial monolayer.
Properly functioning tight junctions are characterized by high TER (Lu el at., 2013). The bacterial
effect on tight junction should be addressed because it emphasizes the importance of the
communication between bacteria and the intestinal epithelial cells. It allows for an elaborate
understanding of the bacterial pathogens and how it induces epithelial cell

  • 2. An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding, Section 10 Essay In Hume s 1748 publication: An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding , Section 10 is titled Of Miracles. This section is an extended argument against the veracity of miracles. In response to Hume, Richard Price published Four Dissertations in 1768. In Dissertation IV, The Importance of Christianity, the Nature of Historical Evidence and Miracles, Price outlines a Bayesian argument against Hume s conclusions that miracles cannot ever occur. My thesis is that Price s Bayesian argument, arguably the first use of Bayes Theorem to challenge another published argument fails. It fails on three fronts: it mischaracterizes Hume s argument as non conditional; it improperly employs a Bayesian model test case of newspaper reporting; and it does not consider the effects of the preliminary seeding of probabilities for its Bayesian model of miracles. 1.0 Hume s Argument Against Miracles Hume s argument is multi faceted but most commentators (Millican, Earman) agree that the key summary occurs in paragraph 13. The plain consequence is (and tis a general maxim worthy of our attention) That no testimony is sufficient to establish a miracle, unless the testimony be of such a kind, that its falsehood would be more miraculous, than the fact, which it endeavours to establish... (E 10.13) This first quote establishes a simple probability model of a miracle occurring (Miracle Happening: MH) given a true testimony about that event (True Testimony: TT) and Hume argues that it must be greater ... • 3. The Role Of Domestic Violence In Professional Sports Growing amounts of societal issues such as domestic violence and substance abuse have recently put the leagues in the public eye. Sports leagues like the NFL, MLB, NHL, and NBA should impose stricter penalties to deal with egregious conduct of professional athletes. The inappropriate behavior from athletes reflects poorly on the leagues and teams. The leagues should have standard protocol that comprises the diverse forms of unacceptable actions that currently plague their leagues. It is problematic to suspend the athletes who dedicate their lives to competing professionally in a sport that requires sacrifices from both family as well as the athlete themselves. But if the athlete shows that they believe that they re above the law, education and adverse consequences become necessary. The athletes are role models for their followers. Young fans are easily swayed and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is the time. There s no watching the process play out anymore, not with a superstar like Kane, not after what the NFL went through last year on the topic of allegations of violence against women, not after the strange, troublesome allegations about the evidence bag (Christine Brennan) How can we live in a society where an alleged rapist is allowed to continue to work? Nonetheless, The NHL was unprepared for the first time rape allegation of a superstar that they made a thoughtless and insensitive decision by not suspending Kane indefinitely with pay? Hence, not suspending Kane for such a serious allegation establishes the league does not take rape and sexual assault charges as momentous decisions. With the growing trend of domestic violence in the NFL as arrests and felonies become more frequent. Astonishingly, Christian Jones of UWIRE revealed the relative extent of their ... While conducting the business check, I was alerted by Walmart Loss Prevention Officer, Marion Edwards, that a White, GMC Yukon, that was missing the front bumper was involved in an attempted theft of a coffee maker approximately two weeks prior. Edwards requested that I make contact with the vehicle, which was parked in row #7 in the Walmart parking lot. Edwards was requesting that I issues a trespass warnings to the vehicle s occupants. I located the vehicle and pulled behind it without my emergency lights activated and I made contact with both the female driver and passenger. Several attempts were made to contact Catellier by Stewart, via cell phone, with negative results. Edwards advised me that Walmart wanted the vehicle removed from the property. Edwards then called a tow company to have the vehicle removed from the property. Both Brasch and Stewart were issued trespass warnings per Edwards request. I advised both subjects that they would be arrested if the returned to Walmart, located at 8701 U.S. Highway 19 in Port Richey. Steward acknowledged, and she signed the trespass warning before leaving the scene with Brasch s cell phone (per her request). Brasch later signed the trespass warning at central booking. While en route to central booking, Brasch admitted that she was the driver of the vehicle from the theft that occurred several weeks prior. Furthermore, Brasch advised me that the subject who attempted to steal the coffee maker was her ex boyfriend, identified as Stephen Martin Genualdi. Edwards later confirmed that Genualdi was the subject who attempted the theft by his last arrest photo on the Pasco County Sheriff s Office website. However, Edwards declined to prosecute. Glass History Sensitive touch of the fragment glass as it is being put away into the cabinets, with a loose grip and it shatters in a billion little sharp sparkling crystals along the hard wooden floor. Glass was evolving throughout history from the Stone Age to now more developed human being that transformed glass into everyday use, whether that is just drinking a cold glass of water in the morning. The evolution of glass flashes through time in the thresholds that have gone throughout history that are known today in the scientific and historic fields. Glass chemical elements are sodium carbonate, silicon dioxide, lead oxide, potassium oxide and calcium oxide, but there is one element on the periodic table that makes glass an object that is known for today. Silicon in glass is the main recipe that is found in sand. The sand has to be a certain temperature in order to become glass, which is approximately of 2,900 degrees Fahrenheit that turns into liquid sand. The temperature is hotter than molten lava, however where does this sand come from? This pictacular sand comes from molten lava where obsidian was found. Stone age people used an extrusive igneous rock obsidian that was used for knives and spears, so glass was naturally used before glass expanded in Mesopotamia 3500 BC. ... • 6. Roman Gladiators Essay Gladiator Gladiatorial events were a token of the Roman civilization. A brutal form of sacrifice adapted from the earlier civilization of Etruscans, who believed when a person dies, his spirit relies on a blood sacrifice to survive in the afterlife. The first event to take place in Rome was in 264 BC, when Decimus Brutus held a sacrifice to honor his dead father (Roman Gladiator). Soon after these events became an undeniable part of the Romans lives, used for political power and general entertainment. A gladiators life was far from easy. Most were slaves, prisoners of war, or hardened criminals, therefore they were not free men. Often times they were trained and forced to take part in the events, hoping for their freedom if ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An individual on average would fight about three times a year, and for the rest of the time travel with the troop. The troops swore an oath to their master, and traveled from city to city looking for work (Roman Gladiator). The social class of the Gladiators was rather ironic in itself. On one hand they were considered slaves, that s the lowest class in a social structure, but on the other hand, some gained popularity and were looked upon as great warriors and heroes. Some rose to celebrity status in a short time as in the movie when Maximus became a hero to the public eye, worthy of praise of greater importance than even the king himself. In the movie this was a direct result in the downfall of Commodus, but this isn t factual, as Maximus is a fictional character. It just demonstrates the influence the Gladiators had on the public eye, he was the ‘Rockstar of the Roman Empire . Like anything else, these shows were often times politically based to gain support for an Emperor. Aside from this they made for great entertainment to divert ones thoughts away from everyday troubles. What a better way than to see masses of people brutally slaughtered. In reality and the movie alike, the gladiators wore crude armor, not of military status to depict the difference in class. Nonetheless they were equipped with the armor and ... All I see is the clouds laying low on the mountain tops giving my eye a storybook illusion. I know I have to get out of bed but the comfort of my blue cotton sheets keep me trapped in a bundle of warmness making the struggle that much harder. eventually I pull off the what seemed to be my morning happiness and go to the restroom. After getting dressed in the proper attire for what seems to be a glorious day of what I heard to be an emotional roller coaster, I head to my destination. As I go through the line he hands me card with a little boys face on it. The picture on the card is black and white with the name Peter lined up above the little boys face. They were to be executed immediately. I go through a door with myself and my seventeen year old sister and wave goodbye to my mother and little sister. • 8. Lymphatic Cancer The lymphatic system helps to protect us from infection and disease. It s part of the body s immune system. Lymph fluid passes through lymph nodes which are connected by a network of lymph vessels. The nodes are found throughout the whole body. My understanding of the lymphatic system is that it is a one way drainage process that transports fluid from your body s tissues into the blood circulation, it fights infections and gets rid of waste products produced by your cells. Lymph fluid normally flows through the network of lymph vessels that connect to a group of lymph nodes. The nodes, which are about the size of a baked bean and are located in specific parts of your body act as a filter, destroying or trapping anything harmful that the body ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But where the tissue could be degenerated through extensive exposure to toxins it can cause the cells to divide and reproduce so that it creates a mass of the cells, ultimately a tumour. This tumour then takes over the tissue. Extensive exposure to toxins can lead to this build up of cancerous cells and weakened defence from the tissue. Our lymphatic system here is paramount as it helps to shift toxins from the body so that they are flushed out of the body. If the lymphatic system though is damaged or struggling in any way it cannot perform this function. If an area of the body is constricted over a long period of time or there is a tightening or pressure applied to it regularly such as ill fitting clothes or tight bras then this can constrict the lymphatic flow cause blockages and build up of toxins that would normally flow out of the body easily. This restriction and blockage means that less oxygen and fewer nutrients are delivered to where they are needed. • 9. The Great Depression And The Civilian Conservation Corps... The Great Depression decimated the economy in the 1930s. Specifically, men of the workforce experienced layoffs, the loss of incomes resulted in inability to purchase goods, the low demand led to oversupply, and the cycle restarted by employers cutting more jobs. In an effort to combat the depression, Franklin D. Roosevelt ignited the New Deal: a plan to revive the failing economy. One program, titled the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), assisted successfully in gradually rekindling the workforce. In addition, the CCC influenced future decisions on similar situations such as granting employment following the 2008 economic recession. The CCC was a labor act established in 1933. It decreased the unemployment rate over 9 years by providing jobs to unemployed, young men affected by the Great Depression. Jobs provided by the CCC included contributions to park development, natural and historic site preservation, and forest management. In return for the work, the employees received a small income, education, and, in some cases, shelter. However, in 1934, government officials such as the assistant secretary of war, Harry H. • 13. Theme Of Individualism In Walt Whitman s Leaves Of Grass Individualism is important. This statement is made clear in Walt Whitman s book, Leaves of Grass, published in 1855. Leaves of Grass is a poetry collection composed in the nineteenth century, during the Westward Expansion. Contrary to popular poetic style in that period, Whitman wrote in free verse, meaning there was little to no rhyming or tempo. Individualism is a theme that sets the tone of Whitman s poems. Whitman uses the literary devices of repetition, asyndeton, imagery, and conflict to create the idea of individualism to set the tone. The repetition present in Whitman s works contributes significantly to the theme of his poems. Repetition can be used to emphasize differences; moreover, it can stress the individuality of every person. Whitman s work, I Hear America Singing, is an example of emphasizing differences, with lines 2 4 being, Those of mechanics, each one singing his as it should be blithe and strong, /The carpenter singing his as he measures his plank or beam, /The mason singing his as he makes ready for work, or leaves off work,... Some families are very open with each other, while others are very closed. A change within a family unit has an effect on the family s dynamic and how the family members interact with each other. American culture reflects this in the belief that families are changed either positively or negatively by major emotional events. The family unit can be described in many different ways. Sometimes the family unit, like in Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, consists of everyone that is blood related. The family unit can also extend past genetic barriers and represent big groups such as everyone in the United States of America. • 23. The Prince After The English Civil War Changes in political views are usually done under the pretense of social and political mayhem. Niccolo Macchiavelli wrote his book The Prince after having assisted in the creation of a republic in Florence at a time when several Italian states were fighting for control. Philosopher Thomas Hobbes wrote his work The Leviathan under the English Civil War when it was clear that the king was not able to keep his people safe. These backdrops of political unrest helped mold both philosophers attitudes toward both the government and the people living under it. Machiavelli saw the stability of the state with utmost importance, using any technique available such as deception to keep it together. Hobbes on the other hand saw government as a solution to the brutish and dangerous state of nature that all men originally find themselves in, creating a system for people to opt in as long as they do not attempt to undermine the sovereign. Niccolo Machiavelli is seen as a cut throat political theorist who is often cited when talking about the immorality of politics. While this argument may be a little heavy handed, his views on treachery and deceit certainly play a role in how critics have viewed him over the last 500 years. A repeated theme in his book is his willingness to break promises that go against your interest. I decided to write my literature after going through one of the textbooks in my physiological psychology course and remembered about the cerebral hemispheres, which receives sensory information from opposite sides of the body. This got interested in the topic of cerebral hemispheres and sensory information after a split brain operation. The split brain procedure is a surgical operation that s used for people that have severe epilepsy that can t be controlled by the drugs they take. In the brains of people with severe epilepsy, the nerve cells on one side of the brain are overactive and the overactivity is relayed to the other side by the corpus callosum, a bundle of nerve cells that connect certain parts of one side of the brain to the other. The corpus callosum enables the left and right side of the brain to share information so that both sides knows what the other is doing and perceiving. Both sides of the brain engage in out of control activity that stimulate each other, causing stereotypical seizures that recur throughout the day preventing the person from living a normal life. Neurosurgeons have discovered that severing the corpus callosum greatly reduces the often recurring seizures. After the brain split procedure, the brain is divided into two hemispheres that work independently of each other. Their sensory mechanisms, and motor systems no longer relay information. Slotnick, M. H. Pelton, and L. Tabor. Their motivation for education relies in their personal interests and satisfactions, job improvements, employment requirements, and their own perception of personal value. This differs from the research performed by M. Knowles, which shows that conventional students depend on external motivation, and lack the self regulation found in nontraditional students. The focus was then shifted to the adult learning style, and how greatly it differs between younger generations. What differences, if any, are there in learning strategies of the students who attend a traditional or non trational campus? This focused universal thematic concern of motherhood is conveyed through a reflective tone, as the speaker is seen to acutely contemplate her mother s life and the wisdom she has been taught. Gwen Harwood uses a eulogy structure to undertow the reader s focus to the praise the speaker has for her mother. As well as creatively embedding the use of enjambment, repetition and metaphors, Harwood attempts to convey the emotion of the speaker reconciling her final moments with her mother. The reflective tone of the poem plays an important part in substantiating the eulogy structure represented through the speaker. The importance of the title and implementations of enjambment as well as a past tense structure help communicate the reflective tone of the poem. What define a reflective tone is how it illustrates the emotions and thoughts of the speaker. The use of enjambment offers an insight to the reader of the reflective, as thoughts can often be free flowing, just as enjambment is deemed to be. • 29. Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitor Case Study As a psychiatrist I, Dr. Anna Morgan, feel that the best methods for treating mood and anxiety disorders follow the biological approach. There are several different forms of medications that I recommend to my patients that are suffering from a wide variety of disorders. Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) are widely used for depressive symptoms and also work well for anxiety disorders. SSRIs have fewer side effects that lead to patients discontinuing their use. They are also safer in the case of an overdose. Potential side effects include gastrointestinal symptoms, tremors, nervousness, insomnia, daytime sleepiness, and decreased sex drive. Some familiar trade names include Paxil, Zoloft and Prozac. SSRIs could be recommended for disorders including PTSD, Social Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, General Anxiety Disorder, Separation Anxiety Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and Bipolar ... • 34. The Pathophysiology Of Celiac Disease Celiac disease is a T cell mediated, autoimmune, genetic illness that targets the small intestine in which the absorption of nutrients, particularly fats, is impaired. The disease has been described as a permanent intolerance to ingested gluten that damages the small intestine, characteristically inducing crypt hyperplasia and villous atrophy, and typically resolves with removal of gluten from the diet. (AJN 34). Celiac disease appears to be more prevalent in women than in men. Genetic and immune factors are known to play a role in its development. People that have a family member with celiac disease and people that have autoimmune disorders are at higher risk to develop celiac disease. This paper outlines the pathophysiology of celiac disease, discusses signs and symptoms, the four disease types, describes testing, treatment, addresses the differences between gluten free diet and a diet containing gluten, the use of dietary supplements, and vitamin D status. Most absorption of nutrients occurs in the small intestine. The mucosa of the small intestine is arranged in microscopic folds, which in turn contain even smaller finger like projections called villi. The cells of the villi are covered with microscopic hairs, microvilli, projecting from the cell membrane. The folds, villi, and microvilli of the intestinal mucosa provide a huge surface area for nutrient absorption. Cells of the intestines are specialized to absorb different nutrients. Readily digested nutrients are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

So that s why when he encountered the stranger, he immediately found a sense of comfort in confiding in him because he finally satisfied his need for companionship. In Frankenstein s situation, he too was seeking a friend because he shared Walton s desire for companionship. The parallel storylines between a human and a monster make it evident that the two beings, though physically different, may not be as contrasting as initially thought. Frankenstein is a story within a story. What effect does this technique have upon the narrative? The story within a story technique can also be called frame story/narrative. In Frankenstein, this technique helps introduce different characters as well as their perspectives. Through the letters written by Robert Walton to Margaret Saville, readers learn about Victor Frankenstein and his creation s story. If one thinks about it, this novel actually has many layers, and can be referred to as a story within a story that s within another story. The reason being is in Walton s letters, we learn of Victor Frankenstein and his adversity when he created the monster, which is the last narrative the readers experience. To restate, this technique brings together the individual stories of Walton, Victor and Frankenstein in many ways that overall become clearer in the initial letters Mary Shelley uses in the beginning of the novel. • 36. Tight Junctions Although food poisoning might not seem as a critical threat, it can cause severe illness and sometimes even lead to death. The infection is mediated by pathogens which invades the host through utilizing the epithelial cells in organs (Schneeberger and Lynch, 2004). The epithelial cells are composed of tight junctions, which are located between each cell. It consists of water proof connected proteins that act as a barrier separating the external cellular contents from the internal. Proteins such as claudin, occludin, etc play an important role in the regulation of ions and molecules traveling through the cells (Schneeberger and Lynch, 2004). Although tight junctions provide a barrier for the epithelial cells, its permeability can be jeopardizing by foreign pathogens. The purpose of this study is to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Previous studies have shown that bacteria such as Escherichia coli have contributed to diarrhea among children across the world (Kreisberg et al., 2010). E coli produce particular heat liable toxins, STb, which has been responsible for diarrheas in many farm animals through the induction of intestinal barrier dysfunction (Kreisberg et al., 2010). Another study had also investigated the alterations in tight junctions after E coli infection in vivo. The investigation concluded that the tight junction proteins, claudin and occludin, were dislocated from the cellular membrane (Zhang et al., 2010). The integrity of the tight junction proteins in vitro can be observed by utilizing the transepithelial electrical resistance (TER). The electrical resistance determines the confluence of the epithelial monolayer. Properly functioning tight junctions are characterized by high TER (Lu el at., 2013). The bacterial effect on tight junction should be addressed because it emphasizes the importance of the communication between bacteria and the intestinal epithelial cells. It allows for an elaborate understanding of the bacterial pathogens and how it induces epithelial cell ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
