A Hero of the Ages Essay
A Hero of the Ages
Heroes come from all sorts of places: movies, books, and even everyday life. Jen, a Gelfling, is a hero
from the movie The Dark Crystal. Jen s story is one of prophecy, the never ending fight between good
and evil, and love. This composition shall trace Jen s quest as well as evaluate his success in that
quest, his individual self, and finally he shall be compared to one of the Greek heroes. Jen s quest can
be classified as restoring the good kingdom. During a time of great change in the universe, there was a
single dark crystal which held the source of balance and truth. At this time, many years before Jen s
birth, the world was peaceful. However, the crystal was shattered and the world was divided ... Show

Ogra was another aid to Jen. She was an old woman who could foresee the future. Ogra also had the
missing shard of the dark crystal in her possession, and she gave it to Jen after he proved worthy. The
Mystics gave Jen hope and strong will to overcome his challenges. Unfortunately, Jen is also quite
small and could easily be harmed. He is also very unsure of himself at many times. At the start of his
quest, Jen is still with the Mystics. His master, the eldest, had just told him of his journey and soon
after passed away. Jen must first find Ogra and obtain the missing shard to complete the dark crystal.
At Ogra s awful monsters sent by the Skeksis try and kill Jen and they destroy Ogra s home in the
process. Ogra is captured and taken to the Skeksis. Meanwhile, having escaped, Jen finds himself in a
strange forest where he meets Kara. Both had thought themselves the last of their kind, and soon form
a strong bond. Kara takes Jen to her adopted family, the podlings. It is here that the Skeksis monsters
come once again. They capture some of the podlings and take them to the Skeksis who will drain their
life energy and turn them into slaves. During all of this, the eldest Skeksis leader has passed away and
his leadership was won by one of the remaining Skeksis. Chamberlain, a horrid scoundrel, had tried in
vain for the throne and after his defeat, was exiled. He comes across Jen and Kara and tries to befriend

knowledge, resources and competencies that differentiate a business from its rivals (Wang, 2009).

with more than have reported as middle income, not just those in poverty. The lack of medical

mortality (CDC, 2014). Indiana ranks 41st in overall health rankings and Greene County ranked 81st

One s socioeconomic and educational level is an important factor in the longevity of this aging
population s existence. Greene County is a relatively poor community with only 11.3% of individuals
holding a B.A. or higher degree of education (Stats, 2014). The ability for self pay or likelihood of one
in this age group having private health insurance is decreased. Therefore, the financial burden for this
age group falls back on government agencies in the form of Medicare for qualifying older adult or the
older adult fails to seek medical attention due to the lack of funding. People 65 and older make nearly
twice as many physician office visits per year than adults 45 to 65. However, an estimated two thirds
of older people are unable to understand the information given to them about their prescription
medications. (AMA, 2014) According to the CDC, by 2030, 71.5 million adults aged 65 years of age
or older will be living in the United States . This shift in demographic data stresses how important it is
to improve the access of healthcare and health communication in order to improve the health of the
older adults (CDC, 2014).

Essay on Fraudulent Financial Reporting Schemes
Fraudulent Financial Reporting Schemes
Abstract
Routine examinations, audits, or internal control procedures, do not reveal most accounting fraud.
Only 20% is revealed by way of auditing, however whistle blowing accounts for most revealed
accounting fraud. Financial statement fraud will usually occur in such schemes as: fictitious revenues,
timing differences, concealed liabilities amp; expense, improper asset valuation, or asset/revenue
overstatements (just to name a few), (Frempong, 2012). It is essential one be educated and thoroughly
understand the different types of financial statement fraud schemes and the accompanying accounting
transactions in order to better identify fraud.

This is achieved by inflating the company s assets, net earnings, and/or equity. To understate liabilities
the company would not record accrued liabilities or accounts payable, service or warranty liabilities,
loans (or keep liabilities completely off of the company books), contingent liabilities, and record
unearned revenues as earned revenue.
Improper Asset Valuation
The more assets a creditor, lender, or investor can view on a company s books the more appealing the
companies are to the creditor s, lender s, or investors. Assets are used to earn the company money in
order to pay or pay off its debt. This can cause improper asset valuation of such accounts as: accounts
receivable, fixed assets, and or inventory. Considering the complexity of inventory records,
management finds inventory as an attractive place to commit financial statement fraud. Inventory is
sometimes comprised of larger number items and distributed from several locations making it easier
for the improper creation of estimates for slow moving or dated goods. Additionally, management will
create non existing inventory, manipulate the physical count, fail to record the actual purchase, and
improperly capitalize inventory, (Colby, n.d).

A Narrative Essay About A Place Shimla
The most matchless place to be, is Sirmaur, Shimla. The moving slopes, clean fresh air, and extensive
size all outperform the city life. The recollections and happiness I encounter when I am there will
dependably remain as a cherished memory to me. My home reside in country where it would snow

My home resided in the country. A cow field was my lawn, and I would play find the stowaway with
my companions behind the roughage bundles. From the minute we returned home and put our
backpack down until the minute the pinkish, yellow sun was setting, my friends and I were

Chaos In Frankenstein
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley is a story about Victor Frankenstein s creation, a monster. Throughout
the story, the monster feels left out, like an outcast, and as a result turns to killing to get revenge on his
creator. He wreaks havoc everywhere he goes and ultimately causes his own demise. By the end of the
story, it would have been better for everyone if the monster had been destroyed. He never should have
been created in the first place, caused chaos, constantly felt out of place in the world, and did not
really have a purpose for living. Frankenstein s monster was a mistake in the first place. Victor created
the monster in secret with the fear that someone would find out about his work. It was unethical for
him to try to create life, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the whole story, the monster kills a lot of people and scares everyone he sees. If the
monster was destroyed, many characters would not have died and the world would be more peaceful.
For example, if the monster had been destroyed earlier, Justine would not have been blamed for the
murder of William. She would not have been killed for something she was not guilty of. The monster
did not fit in. The story tells of how he was tall, had a big stature, great strength, scars, and generally
looked scary. Because of these features, he scared everyone he met, causing him to be utterly alone.
Rather than face the cruelty of the world and be cast out from the population, it would have been
better for the monster if he was just destroyed. The monster didn t have a purpose to live his life. He
was created so that Victor could make an advancement in science, but he was not brought to life with a
purpose other than to be a science experiment. HIs whole existence, the monster was so focused on
revenge that when Victor finally died, the monster decided to kill itself because it had nothing else to
live for. Because he was born without a true purpose or importance to society, it would have been

Face Off
简介
Face/Off is a 1997 action film directed by John Woo, starring John Travolta and Nicolas Cage. The
two both play an FBI agent and a terrorist, sworn enemies who assume the physical appearance of one
another.
内容
The film exemplifies gun fu and heroic bloodshed action sequences, and has Travolta and Cage each
playing two personalities. It was the first Hollywood film in which Woo was given complete creative
control and was acclaimed by both audiences and critics. Eventually grossing $245 million worldwide,
Face/Off was a financial success, as well as Woo s highest grossing American film.

To Woo s credit, he doesn t stick strictly to action. Face/Off is only in overdrive for about two thirds of
its running length. The rest of the movie is devoted to such mundane tasks and plot exposition,
character and relationship development, and ruminations on philosophical issues like identity. While
there s very little of the latter (certainly not enough to turn off viewers who don t like their action
leavened with anything intellectual), there is enough to give Face/Off an interesting subtext. How
much of who we are is determined by our physical appearance? And, if we re given the face of
another, how like that person are we likely to become? These issues aren t explored too deeply, but, to
Woo s credit (and to that of the screenplay, by Mike Werb amp; Michael Colleary), they are addressed.
Such weighty questions are posed because the two main characters swap faces and identities. Sean
Archer (John Travolta) is a dedicated federal officer whose obsession with bringing down one
particular master criminal, Castor Troy (Nicolas Cage), has blinded him to all other concerns. Six
years ago, Troy s attempt to kill Archer went wrong, and Archer s young son was killed. Since then, a
thirst for revenge has driven the FBI agent to pursue Troy with a single minded relentlessness that has
alienated both his wife (Joan Allen) and his teenage daughter (Dominique Swain). When the latest

American History X By Tony Kaye
American History X American History X, directed by Tony Kaye, is one of the most controversial,
critically acclaimed movies of the twentieth century. The film is about a man named Derek who serves
three years in prison for murdering two African American gang members who broke into his truck.
Derek s younger brother, Danny, tells the story of how Derek became this hateful, racist person

American while fighting a fire. Their father used to tell Derek terrible things about African Americans
and that they do not deserve to be in this country because they are taking away the jobs of
hardworking white men. This triggered something in Derek s mind, which prompted him to become
the leader of the neo Nazi skinheads , an all white gang trying to get justice for all the white men who

Ad Analysis Of Gillette Safety Razors
Gillette Safety Razors is a company that was founded in 1901 and introduced the world s first
disposable safety razor in 1903 as a replacement for straight razors and fixed blade safety razors that
dominated the market at the time. To attract men to their product, the company created advertisements
that they thought would appeal to average American male. One of the advertisements that Gillette is
most memorable for is of a baby shaving itself with one of their disposable razors, which is an
effective ad that the company has produced because it s easy to understand, is straight forward, and it s
visually hard to ignore.
This ad is by far one of the easiest to comprehend. The illustration shows the audience two things, that
their razors can give them soft skin, and that their product is safe to use. The main focus of the ad is of
an infant shaving itself, which not only creates a literal representation of the phrase baby soft skin ,
but makes a use of irony. This is due to the fact that this baby doesn t need to shave since it already
has soft skin. The Viewer can draw a connection between the phrase and the picture and could most
likely conclude that if they use Gillette s safety razor, they too can have soft skin and have a bit of a
chuckle since the picture created humor through irony. The ad also tells the audience that their razor is
safe by making an infant use it. Baby s are care free being by nature and will most likely hurt
themselves very often. By making an infant

Driving Age Essay
Driving is the key to a teenager s freedom of roaming roads and starting a life for themselves. This key
is a sacred ritual in each child s life; it should not be delayed. Recently, lawmakers have been debating
whether or not the legal driving age should be raised from the current age of sixteen to eighteen.
Lawmakers should not alter the legal driving age because it assists in educating the juveniles in
responsibility, even though several can behave immaturely and are prone to texting, plus it also
benefits parents. First off, driving at the age of sixteen can ameliorate teenagers understanding of the
significant values of responsibility. When driving, the driver is compelled to harmonize with the street

There are numerous sustaining families with either an abundance of children or those surviving with a
single parent. In today s society, children are continuously traveling to innumerable activities, one

additional chauffeur to help run errands and one less child to drive everywhere, parents can wipe off a
portion of the stress on their shoulders. Having a sixteen year old that is allowed to drive can help
liberate time and alleviate stress. In conclusion, preserving the driving age at sixteen braces teenagers
for an independent life, even with their rebellious behavior, while allocating parents a helping hand.
Driving at sixteen enlightens students about responsibility, time and money management, and coaches

The Effects Of Social Inequality In The United States
Seyedeh Elnaz Mirza Hosseini
Los Angeles Pierce College
Sociology 1 Professor Hoshiar
Living in a society that does not help its people to live comfortably and provide facilities for them to
achieve their demands, is harmful. One of these harmful affections is social inequality in each diverse
society. Social inequality occurs when resources in each society are distributed unevenly, typically
through norms of allocation, that engender specific patterns along lines of socially defined categories
of persons. The United States contains one of the most common social inequalities for its population
and that is social stratification and mobility and the government should strictly investigate this social
inequality for people who are living in the United States.
Sociologists use the term social stratification to describe the system of social standing. Social
stratification refers to a society s categorization of its people into rankings of socioeconomic tiers
based on factors like wealth, income, race and education (Griffith et al., 2016 p.187). In the United
States IQ is also one of the characteristics of social stratification in terms of personal skills,
achievements, and athletic abilities. People consider that social stratification in the United States
contains social classes such as upper class, middle class, and lower class. People who are categorizing
in upper class not only have power and control over their own lives but also their social status gives

Discrimination Against Gays and Lesbians in the Workplace
The topic I have chosen for my research paper comes under the general heading of culture. Culture
may be defined as the language, beliefs, values, norms, and material objects passed from one
generation to the next. The specific topic I proposed to investigate is discrimination of homosexuals in
the workplace. This topic is particularly interesting to me because I am an advocate of equality for all.
I believe that no matter your race, age, sex, or sexual orientation you should be treated fairly. My
paper will provide an in depth look at this type of discrimination, the laws that protect the victims, and
explain how this affects our society. Finally, I will describe the insights I have gained in researching
this topic as well as pose some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some feel that same sex relationships are completely wrong and that they shouldn t be allowed
anywhere, especially in the workplace. But, there are others who are fighting for homosexual equality.
Another opinion is Don t Ask Don t Tell . Some employers feel that, if an employer s personal life is
not evident at work, he/she shouldn t make it known. They feel that what an employee does in his/her
personal life; is personal and they want to have an unbiased opinion.
From researching this topic I have gained a newfound insight about myself and the world around me.
Not only does prejudice affect your race, it also affects how you live your life, a job, and has the basic
needs in life. Homosexuals choose a life different from the norm of society and they have to deal with
the pressures of fitting in where they are told that they do not belong. It is put upon them to conform
to what society wants and not to be different. Researching discrimination against gays and lesbians in
the workplace helped me understand more about the struggles that they face. Having seen the
similarities that racism and sexual orientation have in common has made me want to research further
into the lives of homosexual persons.

A variety of novels often highlight certain social occasions in order to reveal the true value of another
person s character. Jay Gatsby is a successful businessman who is often taken advantage of by the
wealthy half of New York such as Daisy Buchanan, Meyer Wolfsheim, and Klipspringer. In the novel,
The Great Gatsby written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the author exposes the true societal views of 1920s
New York through the funeral that follows the death of Jay Gatsby, where the writer displays the

who piloted flight 1549. Sullenberger (the main character who is the basis for the current analysis)

Often, a person in an immensely stressful event denies it ever happened. Sidestep: this was the case
for several of the passengers on the flight as depicted in the film. One could obviously tell from the
film that Sullenberger has accepted that his plane had indeed crashed. Sullenberger, even when alone
to himself, never denied that the crash had occurred. Perhaps this was because of his resilience.
Whatever the case may be, acceptance, as it was depicted in the film, was one of Sullenberger s
biggest strengths related to adjustment. It is also essential to mention that Sullenberger used positive
coping mechanisms to cope with the residual stress of the hearings, and the crash itself. These will be

Goods And Possessions In The Great Gatsby
Goods/possessions
All the sources use the idea of goods and possessions helping determine social class. All of the sources

Comparing Anatomical Theory And Germ Theory
Over time, many practices contributed to the success and promotion of modern day medicine today.
The three early theoretical treatments consisted of the Humoral theory, anatomical theory, and the
germ theory. Today, each provided insight into knowledge of medicine. We will review each theory
and compare how different each are from one another and their historical significance today to health
and wellness.
Of the first, Hippocrates developed Humoral theory in 460 to 370 B.C. The treatment was based on
how the body handled the fluids within itself. Reviewing a patient s blood, urine, or other fluids were
vital to the success of the treatment. In addition, the treatment consisted of information relayed from
the patient to the practitioner to come to a diagnosis. The doctors of this period kept detailed records
containing historical data of the stages of the illness. Four key elements were of the writings to find a
treatment and potentially cure the patient. Black bile, red or yellow bile, blood, and phlegm. The
humor believed all four had to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

somewhat similar. The view of the internal organs are vital however, germ theology provides more
detailed analysis of the microscopic tissue and organs involved. Anatomical theory and humor are far
from relation. The discovery of anatomical theories allowed for the evolution of medicine rather than
suppressing it discoveries to four theories. The anatomy is vast and complex in its workings. The three

When everybody else is ready for the ending, I m just ready to begin, Frank Gehry once wrote. It s

Born on 28 February 1929 in Toronto, Canada, Frank O. Goldberg entered a household with a strong
Polish and Jewish heritage. Twenty years earlier, Thelma Caplanski left Poland with her parents, a
couple with deep religious morals. Once they settled in Toronto, the two decided to change their last

The Goldberg family relocated to Timmins, Ontario during Frank s adolescent years. Unfortunately,
during these times, Frank saw how mean kids can be as he was given the nickname Fish . People did
not accept his religion, Judaism, and the nickname was supposed to put him down but Frank would
later use that as a basis for his some of his creations. During this time, he explored atheism because of
these difficulties (Hines, 1986).
Finding and Designing Love
After Frank s father grew sick, the Goldberg family moved to Los Angeles where some of the family
already resided. Ironically, they lived in an apartment that was close to where the Loyola Law School
would be built in later years, according to Frank s blueprints. At this time, the family was struggling
for money and Frank had to find a job. He worked as a delivery truck man who installed breakfast
nooks. It was through this job that Frank would meet Anita Snyder, a woman who he married later in
1952. Two years later, with the permission of his family, Frank decided to change their last name to
Gehry. The couple had two daughters and the three followed Gehry to an army base in Georgia (Hines,
1986) and then to Paris (Hines, 1986; Templer, 1999). Eventually, got divorced in 1966. Frank s
relationship problems are similar to those that Gardner refers to in his geniuses lives (Hines, 1986).

The Metamorphoses By Ovid s Metamorphoses
Ovid s Metamorphoses tells the story of Diana and Actaeon, the goddess of the hunt and a man who
unwittingly stumbles upon the sacred grotto of Gargaphia while Diana is bathing with her nymphs.
The outraged goddess transforms Actaeon into a stag, and ironically, his own hunting dogs kill him.
Rembrandt s painting of Diana, Actaeon, and Callisto is an artistic interpretation of Book III and a bit
of Book II of the Metamorphoses, providing a visual insight of the scene that casts Actaeon s
unfortunate fate. Rembrandt s still life expresses many Ovidian themes of censorship, chastity, and
punishment by the divine hand. Despite superficial differences between the painting and the book, the
scene remains true to the myth of Actaeon Diana both visually and thematically. Rembrandt
successfully enhances certain Ovidian motifs by adapting imagery, characters, and themes from the
writing onto the canvas. Rembrandt s techniques are derived from the Baroque period, using the style
as a medium to project qualities of the Metamorphoses myth. Baroque paintings commonly
orchestrate colors by contrasting light and shadow, in which this painting explicitly displays with a
majority of a dark, almost black, landscape while light tones flood the lower portion, where characters
are (Britannica). The color scheme relates to not only the artistic mode, but it also correlates with the

Analysis Of Cloud Painter By Jane Flanders
The world has several great poets and numerous mind blowing works, each with its own way of
portraying its own message using symbolism to represent lessons of everyday life. Jane Flanders
wrote the poem named Cloud Painter she shows the world from an artistic way, using a painter and his
canvas to help the reader picture the true meaning behind the words and images created. Robert Frost
takes on the same idea, but uses a less complex example so that it makes his work easy to understand
while not revealing the actual meaning of the poem. Frost and Flanders are just two of the many poets
that use nature as a way of explaining the very lessons in life. Each poet has a different way of
presenting similar images but from a different perspective. Poems are short stories that have a
meaning behind them without revealing them in obvious ways. Although some are confusing and may
use a different style there are a few that present the same message even if they are written by a
different poet. Cloud Painter written by Jane Flanders uses the clouds and other subjects of nature.
Such as trees and the hills. to help the reader picture the true meaning behind her poem. Robert Frost s
poem by the name of Nothing Gold Can Stay also takes the nature route to convey the point of his
poems words and their Each has a unique way of creating an idea that most can relate to emotionally
and physically. Flanders sees the world as a simple backdrop as seen when she simply states, At first,
as you know, the sky is incidental a drape, a backdrop for the trees and steeples. Here an oak clutches
a rock (already he works outdoors), a wall buckles but does not break, water pearls through a lock, a
haywain trembles. Showing that the world is just another curtain painting that is there for looks. The
message behind this line is that life rests upon a single canvas and although it has been damaged it still
stands as if to hang on to its life. The first line sets the poem for the next line to come which explains
the main point of the poem The pleasures of landscape are endless. What is seen should be enough.
Horizons are typically high and far away. This shows that the things in life are often taken for granted

The Samurai s Role In Feudal Japan
Many people today think of the Samurai as a stereotype of a Ninja warrior (even Teenage Mutant
Turtle Ninja warriors are on television) sneaking around at night with precise sword skills. However,
the samurai were a noble, well respected class of warriors who lived in feudal Japan from the 10th to
the 18th century. They first began during the Heian period when the Japanese government was
establishing an army of professional soldiers from 794 to 1185 and later came to power under the first
Shogunate.

position of power in Japanese society, and their philosophy of Bushido. Although the samurai were not

way of the warrior and was developed in the 800s and the 1100s. The Bushido code has seven virtues.
Gi (Rectitude) is to do what is right given the situation at hand based upon reason and judgment. The
Samurai believed violence is to be avoided if at all possible, but if it can t be avoided, do what must be

bravery and courage. Courage The samurai were brave and believed that fear causes your brain to

supply of food and shelter, everything a mouse could want. Yet he still wanted to keep searching for
the mountains he knew were still ahead. The mouse in this story is a very kind and generous mouse.
He comes across the path of a sick buffalo that needs one thing to make him complete: an eye of a
mouse. Now it doesn t take long for Jumping Mouse to decide what to do. He doesn t want the buffalo
to die so he gives up half of his gift of sight by letting the buffalo have an eye. In return for his gift of
life, the buffalo offered him protection from predators as Mouse continued on with his journey. After
he parts with the buffalo, Jumping Mouse meets with a gray wolf that for some reason cannot
remember the simplest of things. But being the kind mouse that he is, our hero wishes to help and
decides that by giving the wolf his remaining eye it would cure him of his problems. Now completely
giving up his gift of sight is a very difficult thing to ever want to do, but Jumping Mouse decides that
it is better to take care of others in need than him. The wolf s memory is restored and it can now
function again, thanks to the selfless generosity that the little mouse displayed. And in turn for Mouse
s good deed, the wolf offered to be his eyes and help him continue on his way. Jumping

Geometric Krater Essay
Geometric Krater The Geometric Krater is a magnificent piece of Greek Art. In the eight century, vase
painting became very popular. The vases show a great show a great variety of style and development
over the centuries, beginning with the geometric and very linear style. They then continued through
the oriental style which borrowed images from the eastern world, and into the classical era with
mythology portrayed with as much classical accuracy as the ancient Greek potters and painters could
muster. The majority of the vases were made of a ceramic material which could easily be used for
everyday uses, however in this time, the artists would then paint on them in order to decorate them

In the upper band, the shroud, raised to reveal the corpse is an abstract checkerboard like backdrop,
and the funerary couch has only two legs because the artist had no interest in suggesting the depth or
representing space, ( Kleiner 94). This is a typical aspect of geometric design. The people, animals,
and objects are all two dimensional. The figures are actually made up of very simplified shapes, not
meant to be realistic looking. Upon examining one of the people depicted on the vase one may see that
the bodies are comprised of only basic shapes. The torso is made of a triangle, while the head is a
combination of circles. Even the arms are slender rectangles with triangular hands. The painters were
not focused on the realistic aspects, but rather the symbolic representation. In their defense, it is clear
to the viewers that the figures are people without the painters having to spend an enormous amount of
time on them. Upon researching the geometric style of Greek vase painting, I realized exactly how
unique the style is compared to all other types of vases, even other vases made by the Greeks
themselves. After the geometric style care the orientalizing style. Though the orientalizing style
sequentially follows the geometric style, it does not follow it in other aspects. Rather than having a
very linearly organized style of painting decorating the pot, the oriental style is much more freely
moving. The pictures were much more scattered and

The Expression Of Aggression And Gender
The Expression of aggression related to gender
Do you know that some people says men and women are equally when they show aggressive
behavior! This change is be more acceptable; especially, after scientists define relational or indirect
aggression that women like to exhibit. However, the old studies believe that men are more likely to be
aggressive. The question is what is the motivation to make people behave aggressively? The
expression of aggression is related to gender because social roles and media influences have a hugely
significant impact on. Social roles in the societies have an extremely profound impact on people deals
between each other ;especially, when we remind the expression of aggression. One of most theories
study the different on aggression behavior between male and female gender is social role theory which
discuss influences of social roles on aggression behavior. According to Bowie (2007), gender tends to
take characteristics that can learned from life experiences rather than come from his/her genetic. Also,
Umberger says that as a part of gender roles, norms serve as an outline of behavior, telling people
what is acceptable and what is not. So, what people learn or act in the society can guide them to
behave aggression differently. Any person may learn to exhibit the aggression since he/she was a kid.
There are causes for this. Parents have a significant influence in their children s behavior. They can

Lao Tzu Vs. Machiavelli
Government
(Lao tzu V. Machiavelli) What is government? Government is the governing body of nation, state, or
community. Government determines the way any group of people are ran. There a several different
types of government used all around the world. In the United States for example, uses a type of
government that has three different branches of power. The Legislative Branch is the law making
branch. The Judicial branch is the courts and the low enforcement. Lastly, the Executive branch is the
presidential branch. Each has its own responsibilities and at the same time they work together to make
the country run smoothly and to assure that the rights of citizens are not ignored or disallowed.
(Osborne) Usually, governments break up the responsibilities into two or more groups. Two very
influential writers wrote about their views on government; Lao tzu and Machiavelli. These writers
were in very different times which makes it very interesting to compare their views. Lao tzu and
Machiavelli had very different views on the ultimate purpose of government, the obligations of
government leaders, and the main work of the state. To begin, Lao tzu s and Machiavelli s views on
the ultimate purpose of government are very different. First of all, Lao tzu s idea of the purpose of
government is more as a suggestion or a guide. Lao tzu believes that government should not be a part
of people s personal lives in any way shape or form. He believes in a very simple type of government.

English scientist to live during the first thirty years of the existence of the Royal Society.
He was not only a chemist and a physicist as we know him to be, but also

For centuries scientists had been explaining the unknown with the simple explanation that
God made it that way. Though Boyle did not argue with this, he did believe that there was
a scientific explanation for God s doings. Boyle s point of view can be seen by his dealings
with the elements. At this time it was thought that an element was not only the simplest
body to which something could be broken down, but also a necessary component of all
bodies. Meaning that if oil was an element, it would not be able to be broken down, and it
would be found in everything. Boyle did not accept this theory, whether it referred to the
earth, air, fire, the water of the Aristotelians, the salt, sulfur, and mercury of the
Paracelsans, or the phlegm, oil, spirit, acid, and alkali of later chemists. He did not believe
that these elements were truly fundamental in their nature. Boyle thought that the only
things common in all bodies were corpuscles, atom like structures that were created by
God and that occupy all void space. He began to perform experiments, concentrating
on the color changes that took place in reactions. He started to devise a system of
classification based on the properties of substances. By showing that acids turned the blue
syrup of violets red, Boyle claimed that all acids react in the same manner with violet
syrup and those that did not, were not acids. Similarly, he showed that all alkalies turned

The Nature of Women Portrayed by Circe and Calypso in The Odyssey
In Homer s composition, The Odyssey, the roles women play are very significant. The best examples
of the true nature of women occur when Odysseus encounters Circe and Calypso. These two
characters illustrate the thoughts and feelings of how women how a woman feels and how they think.
As the quote states, Circe and Calypso illustrate how women really can be crafty, intelligent, sneaky,
disloyal, and cruel. In contrast to battles with men, Cyclops, or animals, sexual battles with women are
sometimes much more difficult to win.

not even the first one ready to go. His men are the ones who urge him to leave: What ails you now? It
is time to think about our own country (Book X, line 472). At a glance, it appears that Odysseus is
merely succumbing to Circe s schemes for reasons related to their health and well being, if we read

Security Analysis Of A Protocol For Pollution Attack...
ABSTRACT
The following technical paper Security Analysis of a Protocol for Pollution Attack Detection is based
on the concept of network coding. Since we have a limited bandwidth it becomes imperative for us to
optimize our network in such a way that we can make maximum use of the network resources.
Network coding allows us to do that. It achieves this by combining different packets that it receives at
a node into one single packet for transmission, instead of simply taking and forwarding the packets.
However, network coding is vulnerable to pollution attacks where a single malicious node can disrupt
the operation of the complete network. Several protocols to detect pollution attacks have been
proposed previously. In the following paper the author has described a new pollution attack detection
protocol that extends the existing SpaceMac protocol. This paper describes how we have modelled the
protocol in order to carry out a security analysis and presents the results of that analysis.
INTRODUCTION
Network coding allows multiple packets to be transmitted using a smaller number of packets thereby
increasing throughput. Here a common single base station transmits data from a common single base
station to intermediate stations where it is kept and sent out to the final destination or to any other
intermediate stations at a later time. For a traditional network that employs multicast network, the
stations receive a packet and forward it to the next node. Under network coding,

Exordium By Søren Kierkegaard
Often times, existential philosophers question existence; why something is the way it is. Søren
Kierkegaard such these sort of questions and this is clear in his book Fear and Trembling in the section
entitled Exordium. In this section, there are four different ways a particular story is told of Abraham
contemplating fulfilling a duty to God by sacrificing his son to God. In each of these stories, there is a
different ending trying to get at why Abraham is the greatest. In each of these stories, they show
Abraham s commitment to God in different scenarios. Kierkegaard, writing under the name of
Johannes, tells the story of Abraham taking his son, Isaac, to Mount Moriah to sacrifice him to God to
show his faithfulness. In each of these stories ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In all of these stories, Abraham at least contemplates, or comes very close to actually sacrificing his
son, his number one priority, to God because of his commitment to God. In three of the four stories,
Abraham comes very close to actually sacrificing Isaac to God and this show a lot of faith. Even in the
third story where Abraham takes his command as a test and begs for forgiveness for even
contemplating following through with the order, even doing that shoes a lot of commitment. Abraham
realizes that one s relationship to God comes first before anything, and that for one to truly be
connected to Good, one must follow his orders and satisfy his requests. By showing his faith to God
and putting Him first, he at least contemplates sacrificing his son to God because of his religious duty,
and that is some extreme faith that is incomprehensible. This is why in God s eyes, Abraham is so
great, and because of the amount of faith and commitment he has to God. In the first story, Abraham
tries to cover up the fast that he would be killing Isaac because it was a command of God by
pretending to have gone mad and psychopathic, so that Isaac does not lose faith in God, but only in
Abraham. In the second story, Abraham shows that he is going to sacrifice Isaac, and does not follow
through because God provides a ram to sacrifice instead of Isaac. In the third story, Abraham

Moral Responsibility In Susan Wolf s Analysis
In an attempt to explain moral responsibility, Susan Wolf puts forth a modified version of what she
calls the Deep Self View (DSV) first expounded on by Harry Frankfurt, Gary Watson and Charles
Taylor (Perry et al. 460 462). The key to her argument the condition of sanity; a deep self must be sane
in order to be considered morally responsible. However, I will argue that her attempt fails for the
following two reasons:
1. Wolf s definition of sanity is too vague and to be useful and relies on the collective view of lay
persons.
2. Wolf raises the bar of moral responsibility so high as to make it nearly impossible to reach and in
the process seems to defeat her own argument.
Wolf s attempt to make sense of DSV by creating her own definition of sanity (CITATION) does not
add clarity to DSV but instead creates more confusion. Her definition seems to rely too heavily on the
views of the general population for determining what is and is not sane (CITATION). What is sane

...the minimally sufficient ability cognitively and normatively to recognize and appreciate the world
for what it is (Perry et al. 465).
In other words, society at large is the yardstick for judging what is and is not to be considered sane
and acceptable behavior. While few would object to the role sanity plays in a person s moral
responsibility, Wolf s definition of the sane DSV is far too vague and subjective to be of any real
value.
So, if we accept Wolf s vague definition of the sane DSV and assume our view of the world is the
correct one, we may create even bigger problems. All too often the tyranny of the righteous majority
has violated the rights of the weak and savage minority. Therefore, it is my argument that Wolf s
definition of the sane DSV has the very real potential of creating even more Jo Jo s on an even larger
scale. Wolf acknowledges the difficulty of this objection and admits there are no satisfactory answers

The Attack On September 11
The attack on September 11, 2001 is defined as a group of Islamic terrorist who are believed to be
members of the al Qaeda, attacking the Pentagon and the World Trade Center, also known as the Twin
Towers, by hijacking four commercial airlines. Only three of the four attacks succeed. This is
considered a terrorist attack to most of us. From this incident we can define terrorism as a well
planned violent attack that targets innocent people to send a political message by planting fear not just
to the country or government but also to civilians. However, terrorism cannot and should not be easily
defined in this way. The definition of terrorism defined above is defined in America s point of view
and not al Qaeda s perspective. If we put ourselves in al Qaeda s shoes, our definition of terrorism is
going to change. Al Qaeda declared war to America because they felt that the Muslims were
threatened by the U.S. as well as their freedom. It is not to be said that the actions of al Qaeda should
be justified, but we should try to understand them before making assumptions. Al Qaeda dealt with
their situation to extreme by planning massive attacks but it could be considered as a method of
protection instead of a terrorist attack.
The most unexpected horrifying day in the United States can be said to be the terrorism attack of
September 11, 2001 which killed approximately 3,000 and injured almost 10,000 people. As most
already know, the attack was carried by 19 Islamic terrorist from

Importance Of The Reproductive Neurendocrine Prochans In...
The evidence in the literature suggests that the reproductive neuroendocrine axis is centrally regulated
through inputs from kisspeptin expressing neurons to GNRH expressing neurons, which afterward
regulate the release of LH and FSH from the anterior pituitary [Aki et al., 2015]. Kisspeptin primarily
participates in the regulator of the reproductive axis performed its capability to operate upon, and
evoke GNRH neurons, which have been shown to express GPR54 [d Anglemont and Colledge, 2010].
Vaccination with kisspeptin DNA vaccine results in the production of anti kisspeptin antibodies that
suppress GNRH and block the synthesis of testicular steroids and reduce kisspeptin concentration
level in the blood. The result of the current study ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These findings suggested that P234 vaccination modulated the median eminence kisspeptin kiss1r
signaling take part in the kisspeptin stimulated testosterone release and may not passed the blood brain
barrier. Furthermore, plasma kisspeptin, LH, and FSH levels in controls are significantly increased
relative to animals with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism [Kotani et al., 2014]. Moreover, kisspeptin
54 concentration level in the blood of control group was significantly higher than treatment group
[Messager et al., 2005]. Further, peptide 234 suppressed the synthesis of GNRH in both prepubertal
and pubertal monkeys [Guerriero et al., 2012] and administration of peptide 234 delays the onset of
puberty in rodents [Pineda et al., 2010]. Beale et al., [2014] reported that the maintenance of ARC
kisspeptin concentration is crucial for normal LH pulsatile release and estrous cycle and decrease the
LH pulse frequency. Administration of kisspeptin antagonist reduced LH secretory response to
intracervical vaccine immunization of kisspeptin. This cumulative evidence indicates that the
kisspeptin antagonist inhibited GNRH neuron and would reduce hypothalamus GNRH secretion in
vivo.
Hypothalamus, pituitary, and testicular tissues were collected to quantify mRNA levels using qPCR.
Accordingly, kisspeptin, Kiss1r, and GNRH mRNA concentrations in the hypothalamus were
significantly lower in the treatment group than in the control group (P

Chapter Advisor Responsibilities
The Chapter Advisor Team went above and beyond to ensure that the chapter s goals were not only
being met but were being surpassed at all times. Despite having a hectic schedule, the advisors made
the officer team as well as the members feel welcomed to ask any questions or make any suggestions.
Creating ideas was strongly encouraged amongst all officers and each position was greatly respected
which was truly crucial in the decision making process for upcoming events. Since early in the
semester, the executive board of officers became knowledgeable of the Phi Theta Kappa
responsibilities. As an organization, the Omicron Tau chapter treated teamwork as the most important
characteristic because together, they stood stronger than ever before. The advisors cooperated with
each other and determined each other s skills to help the chapter flourish with efficiency by creating
an outline of responsibilities for each event to maintain an organized environment. ... Show more

Abstract
Approximately four varieties of bacteria has been isolated from the ash dyke sample of four power
plants of Chhattisgarh. Total 6 isolates were found to be Pseudomonas sp, 12 isolates are Bacillus sp.,
4 are Staphylococcus sp. and 3 belongs to Archaebacteria. The strains were tested for their tolerance
against six different types of heavy metals dominant in the ash samples viz. Pb, Hg, Ni, Co, Cu, Mn.
Their maximum resistance existed upto 0.6mM/ml of the above mentioned different metals under lab
standard conditions. Six isolates are found suitable for the multiple metal resistance ability viz SM 2,
3, 4, 5, 12 and 16. These are categorized as Bacillus cereus (SM 2,3, 4, 5), Bacillus subtilis (SM 12),
Bacterium KKCSSM (SM 16) after performing 16S rDNA sequencing.
Keywords: MIC, 16S rDNA sequencing, heavy metal, ash dyke.

4. The conventional approaches of value creation and growth focused business, are often blind to new
approaches that bring substantial benefits by adopting greener and more socially responsible ways.
Authors question whether public policy needs to be called upon, to better regulate business conduct
with societal needs. Six academic articles:
1. In the article Why making money is not enough , Tata et al (2013) argue that maximizing the profit
should not be the primary purpose of the businesses. Businesses need to understand sustainable
development is more important and should be the primary driver. Authors highlight Tata Group as a
good example as Tata primary purpose was to help people and not make money. Authors highlight
what has changed in 20 years after people realized fundamental changes will need to be made for a
sustainable development. Today, some companies are investing into clean technology but we still
haven t done enough to reduce world population. Authors argue a critical need for economic, social
and environmental issues to be considered with new business strategies and future technologies.

Jesus Prayer Analysis

The Jesus Prayer: The Ancient Desert Prayer that Tunes the Heart to God by Frederica Mathewes
Green
Paul Forbes
PHIL 231: Practical Wisdom Lab I
September 11, 2017
Reading Assignment: I read one hundred percent of the assigned book, The Jesus Prayer: The Ancient
Desert Prayer that Tunes the Heart to God by Frederica Mathewes Green.
Précis
During the second through fifth century men and women, known as the Desert Fathers and Mothers
relocated to the deserts of Palestine and Egypt and fully devoted themselves to being in constant
communion with God. In their prolific writings, they explained that they were motivated, in part, by
Paul s admonition to pray without ceasing (see Romans 12:12, Ephesians 6:18, Colossians 4:2, I
Thessalonians 5:17). Reasoning that if he repeated this admonition to four bodies of Christians then he
believed that this depth of connection with God was attainable.
Frederica Mathewes Green has written a concise book explaining these early Desert Christian s quest
to pray without ceasing as an avenue to be in constant communion with God. The first third of her
book, The Jesus Prayer: The Ancient Desert Prayer that Tunes the Heart to God, offers a brief history,
theology, and spirituality of Orthodoxy to introduce the prayer practice commonly referred to as the
Jesus Prayer. The last two thirds uses a conversational question and answer format that takes the
reader through practical steps for adopting this prayer into their daily life.
A main focus of the book explains how Christians can use the Jesus Prayer to overcome one of the
biggest obstacles to prayer, which is the steady stream of thoughts, inner conversations, and emotions
that disrupt the mind and keep it unsettled. Remarkably, they discovered that intrusive distractions
during periods of prayer could be cured with a substitute thought a single, simple thought of prayer.
After experimenting with various short scriptures and petitions, this prayer, rooted in Scripture
emerged, Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me.
Thus, the Jesus Prayer is drawn from passages in the Gospels where people called on Jesus for mercy.
Specifically, the ten lepers, recorded in Luke 17:13, cried out, Jesus,

Fernando Sor
Figure 1 Fernando Sor, Grand Sonata Op. 25, mvt. 1: Andante Largo
Allegro non Troppo which is the second movement follows the same form as the first movement,
ending with a tonal resolution rather than a recapitulation (Figure 2). This movement is lighter and
more graceful which emphasizes the contrast against the more heavy and serious first movement. The
main theme in Allegro non Troppo (measure 1 to 20) can be divided in antecedent and consequent
phrases. The antecedent states the basic idea, lasts four measures and ends in a half cadence. The
consequent phrase restates the basic idea, then modifies the idea eventually ending in a strong cadence
to conclude the phrase. This style of using and expanding basic ideas is very unique to the ... Show

By the time Sor became popular in London, Beethoven had published countless pieces of music,
including his Piano Sonata Op. 57 (Appassionata) as well as his 5th and 7th symphonies. Beethoven
amongst other composer during the Romantic Era used countless techniques to bring out the
romanticism in their music. From dynamics changes, to dramatic key shifts, to frequent modulations,
what is clearly apparent in the writing style of the Romantic Era is a sense of freedom. Specifically a
freedom of form whereby composers were able to add miniature sections or take away substantial
sections from pre existing forms, which would have been considered blasphemous during the
Classical Era. Like much of the romantic composers, Sor also did not adhere to pre established forms.
He ventured where no other classical guitarists before him did and did so successfully throughout his
career in London. As pointed out by the analysis presented, not one single movement of Sor s Second
Grand Sonata Op. 25 conforms to the traditional form of the sonata of the Classical Era. His Sonata
shows considerable freedom and is quite unorthodox. Sor makes good use of the dynamic range of the
guitar as well as the complexity of harmonic progressions that arose during the Romantic Era. His
melodies change to include large intervallic leaps which is very much a romantic style of melodic
writing. Sor s sonata also includes harmonics and buffed notes which adds to the drama of his pieces
and perks the audiences interest. Thus, there is a clear change in style in Sor s writing and this could
have very much been the influence of the countless romantic composers who were successful writing
for the piano and other orchestral setting. As stated by Joseph Fetis a famous music critic in Paris in
1826 Fernando Sor was considered the Beethoven of the Classical Guitar. However what earned him
this title was not his

While there s very little of the latter (certainly not enough to turn off viewers who don t like their action leavened with anything intellectual), there is enough to give Face/Off an interesting subtext. To attract men to their product, the company created advertisements that they thought would appeal to average American male. One of the advertisements that Gillette is most memorable for is of a baby shaving itself with one of their disposable razors, which is an effective ad that the company has produced because it s easy to understand, is straight forward, and it s visually hard to ignore. This ad is by far one of the easiest to comprehend. The illustration shows the audience two things, that their razors can give them soft skin, and that their product is safe to use. The main focus of the ad is of an infant shaving itself, which not only creates a literal representation of the phrase baby soft skin , but makes a use of irony. This is due to the fact that this baby doesn t need to shave since it already has soft skin. The Viewer can draw a connection between the phrase and the picture and could most likely conclude that if they use Gillette s safety razor, they too can have soft skin and have a bit of a chuckle since the picture created humor through irony. The Effects Of Social Inequality In The United States Seyedeh Elnaz Mirza Hosseini Los Angeles Pierce College Sociology 1 Professor Hoshiar Living in a society that does not help its people to live comfortably and provide facilities for them to achieve their demands, is harmful. One of these harmful affections is social inequality in each diverse society. Social inequality occurs when resources in each society are distributed unevenly, typically through norms of allocation, that engender specific patterns along lines of socially defined categories of persons. The United States contains one of the most common social inequalities for its population and that is social stratification and mobility and the government should strictly investigate this social inequality for people who are living in the United States. Sociologists use the term social stratification to describe the system of social standing. Social stratification refers to a society s categorization of its people into rankings of socioeconomic tiers based on factors like wealth, income, race and education (Griffith et al., 2016 p.187). I believe that no matter your race, age, sex, or sexual orientation you should be treated fairly. Some feel that same sex relationships are completely wrong and that they shouldn t be allowed anywhere, especially in the workplace. But, there are others who are fighting for homosexual equality. Another opinion is Don t Ask Don t Tell . Some employers feel that, if an employer s personal life is not evident at work, he/she shouldn t make it known. They feel that what an employee does in his/her personal life; is personal and they want to have an unbiased opinion. From researching this topic I have gained a newfound insight about myself and the world around me. Not only does prejudice affect your race, it also affects how you live your life, a job, and has the basic needs in life. Homosexuals choose a life different from the norm of society and they have to deal with the pressures of fitting in where they are told that they do not belong. It is put upon them to conform to what society wants and not to be different. Researching discrimination against gays and lesbians in the workplace helped me understand more about the struggles that they face. The film, directed by Clint Eastwood, details the entire true story as told by Captain Chesley Sully Sullenberger, who piloted flight 1549. Sullenberger (the main character who is the basis for the current analysis) was played by Tom Hanks. The film details everything from the initial bird strike, the root cause of the crash, to the hearings held by the National Transportation Safety Board (more commonly known as the NTSB). Perhaps this was because of his resilience. Whatever the case may be, acceptance, as it was depicted in the film, was one of Sullenberger s biggest strengths related to adjustment. It is also essential to mention that Sullenberger used positive coping mechanisms to cope with the residual stress of the hearings, and the crash itself. The three early theoretical treatments consisted of the Humoral theory, anatomical theory, and the germ theory. Today, each provided insight into knowledge of medicine. We will review each theory and compare how different each are from one another and their historical significance today to health and wellness. Of the first, Hippocrates developed Humoral theory in 460 to 370 B.C. The treatment was based on how the body handled the fluids within itself. • 26. The Metamorphoses By Ovid s Metamorphoses Ovid s Metamorphoses tells the story of Diana and Actaeon, the goddess of the hunt and a man who unwittingly stumbles upon the sacred grotto of Gargaphia while Diana is bathing with her nymphs. The outraged goddess transforms Actaeon into a stag, and ironically, his own hunting dogs kill him. Rembrandt s painting of Diana, Actaeon, and Callisto is an artistic interpretation of Book III and a bit of Book II of the Metamorphoses, providing a visual insight of the scene that casts Actaeon s unfortunate fate. Rembrandt s still life expresses many Ovidian themes of censorship, chastity, and punishment by the divine hand. Despite superficial differences between the painting and the book, the scene remains true to the myth of Actaeon Diana both visually and thematically. Rembrandt successfully enhances certain Ovidian motifs by adapting imagery, characters, and themes from the writing onto the canvas. Rembrandt s techniques are derived from the Baroque period, using the style as a medium to project qualities of the Metamorphoses myth. Baroque paintings commonly orchestrate colors by contrasting light and shadow, in which this painting explicitly displays with a majority of a dark, almost black, landscape while light tones flood the lower portion, where characters are (Britannica). Jane Flanders wrote the poem named Cloud Painter she shows the world from an artistic way, using a painter and his canvas to help the reader picture the true meaning behind the words and images created. Robert Frost takes on the same idea, but uses a less complex example so that it makes his work easy to understand while not revealing the actual meaning of the poem. Frost and Flanders are just two of the many poets that use nature as a way of explaining the very lessons in life. Each poet has a different way of presenting similar images but from a different perspective. Poems are short stories that have a meaning behind them without revealing them in obvious ways. Although some are confusing and may use a different style there are a few that present the same message even if they are written by a different poet. Cloud Painter written by Jane Flanders uses the clouds and other subjects of nature. Such as trees and the hills. to help the reader picture the true meaning behind her poem. Robert Frost s poem by the name of Nothing Gold Can Stay also takes the nature route to convey the point of his poems words and their Each has a unique way of creating an idea that most can relate to emotionally and physically. Here an oak clutches a rock (already he works outdoors), a wall buckles but does not break, water pearls through a lock, a haywain trembles. The message behind this line is that life rests upon a single canvas and although it has been damaged it still stands as if to hang on to its life. Since we have a limited bandwidth it becomes imperative for us to optimize our network in such a way that we can make maximum use of the network resources. Network coding allows us to do that. It achieves this by combining different packets that it receives at a node into one single packet for transmission, instead of simply taking and forwarding the packets. However, network coding is vulnerable to pollution attacks where a single malicious node can disrupt the operation of the complete network. Several protocols to detect pollution attacks have been proposed previously. In the following paper the author has described a new pollution attack detection protocol that extends the existing SpaceMac protocol. This paper describes how we have modelled the protocol in order to carry out a security analysis and presents the results of that analysis. INTRODUCTION Network coding allows multiple packets to be transmitted using a smaller number of packets thereby increasing throughput. Here a common single base station transmits data from a common single base station to intermediate stations where it is kept and sent out to the final destination or to any other intermediate stations at a later time. For a traditional network that employs multicast network, the stations receive a packet and forward it to the next node. Under network coding, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Exordium By Søren Kierkegaard Often times, existential philosophers question existence; why something is the way it is. Søren Kierkegaard such these sort of questions and this is clear in his book Fear and Trembling in the section entitled Exordium. In this section, there are four different ways a particular story is told of Abraham contemplating fulfilling a duty to God by sacrificing his son to God. In each of these stories, there is a different ending trying to get at why Abraham is the greatest. In each of these stories, they show Abraham s commitment to God in different scenarios. Kierkegaard, writing under the name of Johannes, tells the story of Abraham taking his son, Isaac, to Mount Moriah to sacrifice him to God to show his faithfulness. In each of these stories ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In all of these stories, Abraham at least contemplates, or comes very close to actually sacrificing his son, his number one priority, to God because of his commitment to God. In three of the four stories, Abraham comes very close to actually sacrificing Isaac to God and this show a lot of faith. Even in the third story where Abraham takes his command as a test and begs for forgiveness for even contemplating following through with the order, even doing that shoes a lot of commitment. Abraham realizes that one s relationship to God comes first before anything, and that for one to truly be connected to Good, one must follow his orders and satisfy his requests. By showing his faith to God and putting Him first, he at least contemplates sacrificing his son to God because of his religious duty, and that is some extreme faith that is incomprehensible. This is why in God s eyes, Abraham is so great, and because of the amount of faith and commitment he has to God. In the first story, Abraham tries to cover up the fast that he would be killing Isaac because it was a command of God by pretending to have gone mad and psychopathic, so that Isaac does not lose faith in God, but only in Abraham. In the second story, Abraham shows that he is going to sacrifice Isaac, and does not follow through because God provides a ram to sacrifice instead of Isaac. In the third story, Abraham ... • 39. Moral Responsibility In Susan Wolf s Analysis In an attempt to explain moral responsibility, Susan Wolf puts forth a modified version of what she calls the Deep Self View (DSV) first expounded on by Harry Frankfurt, Gary Watson and Charles Taylor (Perry et al. 460 462). The key to her argument the condition of sanity; a deep self must be sane in order to be considered morally responsible. However, I will argue that her attempt fails for the following two reasons: 1. Wolf s definition of sanity is too vague and to be useful and relies on the collective view of lay persons. 2. Wolf raises the bar of moral responsibility so high as to make it nearly impossible to reach and in the process seems to defeat her own argument. Wolf s attempt to make sense of DSV by creating her own definition of sanity (CITATION) does not add clarity to DSV but instead creates more confusion. Her definition seems to rely too heavily on the views of the general population for determining what is and is not sane (CITATION). What is sane then ... In other words, society at large is the yardstick for judging what is and is not to be considered sane and acceptable behavior. While few would object to the role sanity plays in a person s moral responsibility, Wolf s definition of the sane DSV is far too vague and subjective to be of any real value. So, if we accept Wolf s vague definition of the sane DSV and assume our view of the world is the correct one, we may create even bigger problems. All too often the tyranny of the righteous majority has violated the rights of the weak and savage minority. Therefore, it is my argument that Wolf s definition of the sane DSV has the very real potential of creating even more Jo Jo s on an even larger scale. Wolf acknowledges the difficulty of this objection and admits there are no satisfactory answers (Perry et al. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. The Attack On September 11 The attack on September 11, 2001 is defined as a group of Islamic terrorist who are believed to be members of the al Qaeda, attacking the Pentagon and the World Trade Center, also known as the Twin Towers, by hijacking four commercial airlines. Only three of the four attacks succeed. This is considered a terrorist attack to most of us. From this incident we can define terrorism as a well planned violent attack that targets innocent people to send a political message by planting fear not just to the country or government but also to civilians. However, terrorism cannot and should not be easily defined in this way. The definition of terrorism defined above is defined in America s point of view and not al Qaeda s perspective. If we put ourselves in al Qaeda s shoes, our definition of terrorism is going to change. Al Qaeda declared war to America because they felt that the Muslims were threatened by the U.S. as well as their freedom. It is not to be said that the actions of al Qaeda should be justified, but we should try to understand them before making assumptions. Al Qaeda dealt with their situation to extreme by planning massive attacks but it could be considered as a method of protection instead of a terrorist attack. The most unexpected horrifying day in the United States can be said to be the terrorism attack of September 11, 2001 which killed approximately 3,000 and injured almost 10,000 people. As most already know, the attack was carried by 19 Islamic terrorist from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The evidence in the literature suggests that the reproductive neuroendocrine axis is centrally regulated through inputs from kisspeptin expressing neurons to GNRH expressing neurons, which afterward regulate the release of LH and FSH from the anterior pituitary [Aki et al., 2015]. Kisspeptin primarily participates in the regulator of the reproductive axis performed its capability to operate upon, and evoke GNRH neurons, which have been shown to express GPR54 [d Anglemont and Colledge, 2010]. Moreover, kisspeptin 54 concentration level in the blood of control group was significantly higher than treatment group [Messager et al., 2005]. Further, peptide 234 suppressed the synthesis of GNRH in both prepubertal and pubertal monkeys [Guerriero et al., 2012] and administration of peptide 234 delays the onset of puberty in rodents [Pineda et al., 2010]. Beale et al., [2014] reported that the maintenance of ARC kisspeptin concentration is crucial for normal LH pulsatile release and estrous cycle and decrease the LH pulse frequency. Administration of kisspeptin antagonist reduced LH secretory response to intracervical vaccine immunization of kisspeptin. This cumulative evidence indicates that the kisspeptin antagonist inhibited GNRH neuron and would reduce hypothalamus GNRH secretion in vivo. Hypothalamus, pituitary, and testicular tissues were collected to quantify mRNA levels using qPCR. Accordingly, kisspeptin, Kiss1r, and GNRH mRNA concentrations in the hypothalamus were significantly lower in the treatment group than in the control group (P ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Jesus Prayer Analysis Précis The Jesus Prayer: The Ancient Desert Prayer that Tunes the Heart to God by Frederica Mathewes Green Paul Forbes PHIL 231: Practical Wisdom Lab I September 11, 2017 Reading Assignment: I read one hundred percent of the assigned book, The Jesus Prayer: The Ancient Desert Prayer that Tunes the Heart to God by Frederica Mathewes Green. Précis During the second through fifth century men and women, known as the Desert Fathers and Mothers relocated to the deserts of Palestine and Egypt and fully devoted themselves to being in constant communion with God. In their prolific writings, they explained that they were motivated, in part, by Paul s admonition to pray without ceasing (see Romans 12:12, Ephesians 6:18, Colossians 4:2, I Thessalonians 5:17). Reasoning that if he repeated this admonition to four bodies of Christians then he believed that this depth of connection with God was attainable. Frederica Mathewes Green has written a concise book explaining these early Desert Christian s quest to pray without ceasing as an avenue to be in constant communion with God. The first third of her book, The Jesus Prayer: The Ancient Desert Prayer that Tunes the Heart to God, offers a brief history, theology, and spirituality of Orthodoxy to introduce the prayer practice commonly referred to as the Jesus Prayer. The last two thirds uses a conversational question and answer format that takes the reader through practical steps for adopting this prayer into their daily life. A main focus of the book explains how Christians can use the Jesus Prayer to overcome one of the biggest obstacles to prayer, which is the steady stream of thoughts, inner conversations, and emotions that disrupt the mind and keep it unsettled. Remarkably, they discovered that intrusive distractions during periods of prayer could be cured with a substitute thought a single, simple thought of prayer. After experimenting with various short scriptures and petitions, this prayer, rooted in Scripture emerged, Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me. Thus, the Jesus Prayer is drawn from passages in the Gospels where people called on Jesus for mercy. Specifically, the ten lepers, recorded in Luke 17:13, cried out, Jesus, ... Fernando Sor Figure 1 Fernando Sor, Grand Sonata Op. 25, mvt. 1: Andante Largo Allegro non Troppo which is the second movement follows the same form as the first movement, ending with a tonal resolution rather than a recapitulation (Figure 2). This movement is lighter and more graceful which emphasizes the contrast against the more heavy and serious first movement. The main theme in Allegro non Troppo (measure 1 to 20) can be divided in antecedent and consequent phrases. The antecedent states the basic idea, lasts four measures and ends in a half cadence. The consequent phrase restates the basic idea, then modifies the idea eventually ending in a strong cadence to conclude the phrase. By the time Sor became popular in London, Beethoven had published countless pieces of music, including his Piano Sonata Op. 57 (Appassionata) as well as his 5th and 7th symphonies. Beethoven amongst other composer during the Romantic Era used countless techniques to bring out the romanticism in their music. From dynamics changes, to dramatic key shifts, to frequent modulations, what is clearly apparent in the writing style of the Romantic Era is a sense of freedom. Specifically a freedom of form whereby composers were able to add miniature sections or take away substantial sections from pre existing forms, which would have been considered blasphemous during the Classical Era. Like much of the romantic composers, Sor also did not adhere to pre established forms. He ventured where no other classical guitarists before him did and did so successfully throughout his career in London. As pointed out by the analysis presented, not one single movement of Sor s Second Grand Sonata Op. 25 conforms to the traditional form of the sonata of the Classical Era. His Sonata shows considerable freedom and is quite unorthodox. Sor makes good use of the dynamic range of the guitar as well as the complexity of harmonic progressions that arose during the Romantic Era. His melodies change to include large intervallic leaps which is very much a romantic style of melodic writing. Sor s sonata also includes harmonics and buffed notes which adds to the drama of his pieces and perks the audiences interest. Thus, there is a clear change in style in Sor s writing and this could have very much been the influence of the countless romantic composers who were successful writing for the piano and other orchestral setting. As stated by Joseph Fetis a famous music critic in Paris in 1826 Fernando Sor was considered the Beethoven of the Classical Guitar. However what earned him this title was not his ...
