New Plymouth Colony Research Paper
The most devastating war between the colonists and Indians took place in New England in 1676 and
ended in 1676. Metacomet, also known as King Philip, was the son of Chief Massasoit, who was a
principal leader of the Wampanoag in the early 1600 s; a tribe in North America that existed in
America long before the Europeans arrived. He is also known as Metacom, Metacomet or Pometacom,
names that he was given by the Wampanoag tribe. Pilgrims who arrived on the Mayflower, a ship that
transported the first English separatists, founded the Plymouth colony at New Plymouth. This
settlement that occurred in 1620 served as the capital of the colony and occupied the southeastern
portion of what is now known as Massachusetts. Besides Jamestown and other settlements in Virginia,
the Plymouth colony was one of the earliest successful colonies to be founded by the British. The
colony went great lengths and traveled long distances to establish a friendship with Chief Massasoit to
help ensure the colony s success. Gifts were exchanged and Chief Massasoit gave his sons English
names to show respect for each other. King Philip tried to maintained peace for a number of years with
the colonist, but after he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

More than 1,000 colonists and 3,000 Native Americans had died and most survivors either joined the
western or northern tribes as captives or tribal members. The English colonists were unable to
completely stop the Indian attacks and hundreds of men, women and children were killed in attacks in

Friends Essay
Friends Essay by Mitchell Scott
Topic: What friendship means to me
Friendship is a relationship that is needed in a society of ours. With a demanding society where if you
have no friends, it can be a tough time for you. Friendship is much more than just hanging around with
your mates; it allows living to be much more comfortable.
Friendship is extremely underrated in a society of ours; we rely on our friends to have good times.
Sometimes you can t imagine life without those who care for you so dearly. To me friendship is
something I don t take for granted. Having a good quality conversation with your friend just about
what happened on the weekend, can make you feel better, even seeing your friend giving you a
friendly smile and wink ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Ten: The Boat
1. How would you describe Jamie s and Cameron s friendship?
Jamie and Cameron s friendship is healthy; they have regular chats with each other. They both respect
each other. Cameron believes Jamie is not what he is said to be. Although at first, Cameron is quite
careful of Jamie due to the orders voiced by Butcher to steer clear of him. Cameron doesn t
completely trust Jamie with what he says, especially with the vandalism and how he denied those
accusations. When they meet on the wrecked ship, Jamie tells Cameron he is not what Butcher has
said him to be, that all the rumours spread around town are false. When they talk on the boat, Jamie
tells the truth of his story. Jamie has then earned Cameron s trust which strengthens their relationship.
As they both share their problems with the town, there is instantly something in common between
them; helping each other understands what they are both going through. 2. Cameron is affected by the
town s past. How do you know?
Cameron is affected by the town s past, just like Jamie and the other kids in the town. When Jamie
first settles in at Port Barren, he believes he is the only person and is unique to think that this town has
a sense that something wrong. When he is pulled to the boat once again, he

What Happens When Joey Passed Away
3. Joey makes a big deal of having fallen in love with John in 20 minutes practically love at first sight.

young, naïve and does not make thorough decisions. Joey is a risk taker. She perceives her relationship
with John as a normal relationship, as it doesn t seem to create any problems with other people Joey

same privileges in school because the quality of education provided to them is mediocre. Nonetheless,
black people are distinguished as an un educated lower class, whereas, white people are perceived as

12. Why do you think the characters of the meat deliveryman and Dorothy the maid s helper are in the
film?
The characters of the meat deliveryman and Dorothy are in the film to convey to the audience that
there is nothing wrong with interracial relationships, whether by means of friendship or marriage. It
doesn t make a difference because the younger generation likes Dorothy and the meat deliveryman is
more open minded. Dorothy and the meat deliveryman appear to enjoy each others company without
the racial disparities.

The Benefits of Gum Chewing
Stressed, can t focus, trying to lose weight, suffer from oral health problems or digestive problems?
Simply chewing a piece of gum can help solve any of these issues.
For example, everyone experiences stress at some point in their life. Whether its from school, work,
relationships or life in general. Studies have proven that chewing gum can help relieve stress from
someone who is experiencing either acute or chronic stress. Chewing gum leads to reduced stress and
anxiety, and can elevate mood, improve concentration and enhance performance and alertness. says
Kate Morgan. To demonstrate how chewing gum relieves stress Andrew Scholey, a professor of
Behavioral and Brain Sciences from Swinburne University in Melbourne Australia, did a study
containing forty (Scholey) participants. He used a Defined Intensity Stressor Simulation, a machine
that measures the participants stress, anxiety and alertness levels, before chewing gum and after
chewing gum. Results showed that when chewing gum participants had a reduction in anxiety by
seventeen percent (Scholey) during mild stress and ten percent (Scholey) in moderate stress. They also
had an increase of alertness when they chewed gum by nineteen percent (Scholey) during mild stress
and eight percent (Scholey) in moderate stress. The participants levels of salivary cortisol (a
physiological stress marker) were lowered by sixteen percent (Scholey) during mild stress and nearly
twelve percent (Scholey) in moderate

The Civil Rights Movement And The American Civil Movement
The Civil Rights Movement, also known as the American Civil Rights Movement and other names, is
a term that encompasses the strategies, groups, and social movements in the United States whose goals
were to end racial segregation and discrimination against African Americans and to secure legal
recognition and federal protection of the citizenship rights enumerated in the Constitution and federal
law. The movement was characterized by major campaigns of civil resistance. Between 1955 and
1968, acts of nonviolent protest and civil disobedience produced crisis situations and productive
dialogues between activists and government authorities. The movement was led by social activists like

The Civil Rights Act of 1964, which ended segregation in public places and banned employment
discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex or national origin, is considered one of the
crowning legislative achievements of the civil rights movement. First it was proposed by President
John F. Kennedy, it survived strong opposition from southern members of Congress and was then
signed into law by Kennedy s successor, Lyndon B. Johnson. In the following years, Congress
expanded the act and also passed additional legislation aimed at bringing equality to African

Museum Analysis Essay
Museum Analysis Essay
On October 26, 2017. I made a visit to the Menil Collection by 1533 Sul Ross street, Houston Texas.
It was amazing to be in such a lovely place. I was accompanied to the museum by my aunt name
Cynthia. who volunteered in taking care of my new born baby during the trip. Everything at the
museum is so great. Especially the people that work there, the way they communicate with the tourist
was so simple and understanding. Even at the end of the visitation, I was given a sticker which was
placed by the right hand side of my chest. During the visit, they are some lots of great artworks that I

I chose this artwork because it was one of the work that remained in my memory throughout the
museum visit. Though, I saw other great artwork design in the Menil Collection but I really adored the
way the pieces retorted to my emotional side. I really wish if I would have this artwork in my home.
The first thing that catches my eyes was the way the colors were used. They were three images shown
on the artwork. The one on the right hand side was painted with yellow and green with a light color of
pink and red on the chest side which appears more brighter and coloful. On the other hand, the one on
the left hand side was painted with red and pink and a little green at the feet side which looks more
specifically like Egyptian royal traditional way of dressing. Furthermore, the middle one was design
with more of green, black, and red color on the head and legs side that gives patterns to the artwork.
Meanwhile, the background was like yellow that seems like fading into dark brown color. It seems
that the concertation of the artist focuses more on the colors that brings out the beauty of the image.
However the visual rhythm and movements, shows more traditionally way of communication.

How Does Prospero Create Corruption In The Tempest
In The Tempest, by William Shakespeare, a talented magician, Prospero, has been living on a deserted
island with his daughter, Miranda, for twelve years. One day, Prospero, the former Duke of Milan,
brings a ship carrying the Italian royal family. Prospero plans to get revenge on these men who
banished him from Milan. Once on the island, Prospero manipulates everyone with his magic. He
forces love upon Miranda and Ferdinand; tortures Caliban, Stephano, and Trinculo while they are
intoxicated; then, Prospero tricks the King of Naples into thinking that his son is dead. One of the
primary themes in the play is that colonization creates corruption; at first, it sounds harmless, but

Transportation Has A Part Of Human History
Transportation has been a part of human history since the beginning be it walking on foot on a trail
through the forests, ships across the oceans, roads created by the horse or horse and carriage, to the
rail roads that transected the United States to modern roadways. Many advancements on roadways
throughout the years were made as each new form of transportation was improved. Then one day man
could fly and hence another form of transportation made it possible for man to go from place to place
in a fraction of the time compared to car or rail road. Along with these improved modes of
transportation came new and inherent risks like head on collisions in vehicles, planes falling from the
sky, and tunnel collapses in subways. With risk and threat comes the need for security and safety
practices. Cars were made safer and roadways were improved to include guard rails, painted lines,
traffic lights and stop signs. As the population grew so did the need to expand the ability to move
about. Interstates were built, airports were built and subways were now a means of travel in the urban
setting. As technology and the transportations system grew so did the threat and risk of damage from
either natural or manmade disasters. We take for granted every day the roads we travel believing or
thinking that nothing can or will happen to them where we live. So how what would happen if the
transportation system suffered a major attack or damage? Roadways deliver goods by way of tractor
trailers

Advantages of having a distribution center in Mexico
One advantage to having a distribution center located in Mexico is that we wouldn t have to export the
food from America. This will cut down on cost because the consumers will be in a much closer
proximity to our product than if we were headquarter in America. This will allow our consumers to
receive their orders quicker, and more efficiently. Since the products transportation time will be cut

A Link Between Cervical Cancer And Hpv
Introduction Did you know there is more of a link between cervical cancer and HPV than smoking and

leading cause of death from cancer in women. Along with those statistics, human papillomavirus is the
most common sexually transmitted viral disease amongst men and women worldwide. The prevalence
of women having a strain of HPV that ultimately leads to or increases the chance of cervical cancer is

Chris Mathews Hardball Summary
From the rousing introduction, Chris Mathews Hardball presents itself as a godsend to young aspiring
politicians, businessmen, and frankly, everyone alike. Pompously self assured, Mathews discusses his
reasoning to sharing his wisdom collected from his own experience and other major players in
Hardball . However after finishing the book, his audacity could be forgiven by the enjoyable nature of
his work, the information it provides, and the uncanny resemblance to Benjamin Franklin s writing

If somehow the audience did not read the title of the chapter, do not despair. Mathews will repeat the
title or paraphrase it several times to justify its importance. Although this could be construed as
obnoxious, his work has merit. For instance, in Its not who you know; It s who you get to know, the
title and main theme of the first chapter is championed by President Johnson s long career in
Washington. Before and during his presidency, Johnson would go to extreme lengths to learn
everything about his opponents and wring every ounce of their weakness, desires, and political
agendas to his advantage. Although he was not mentioned in the following chapter All Politics is

predecessor, President John F. Kennedy and his family also understood the value of local communities

Examples Of Mercy And Compassion
There are so many ways on how to practice mercy and compassion. There are three simple steps given
to us by Pope Francis during his apostolic visit here in the Philippines on how to become ministers of
mercy and compassion. First is to rest with God. Second is to renew one s self. Third is to love others.
Pope Francis tells us that To be an ambassador for Christ means to invite everyone to a renewed
personal encounter with Christ. (Evangelii Gaudium). A renewed personal encounter with Christ is
witnessed when we rest with God. Rest is very crucial to everyone s life. But some people seldom
have time to rest due to hectic schedules and for some students are overflowing homeworks. Rest is
very important that even God rested during the 7th ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And also there are people that we love so much but doesn t return our love back. Real love is about
loving God, and letting Him love us back. Another way of practicing mercy and compassion is to love
others. Loving others unlike the renewal of one s self focuses on giving love to other people. Loving
others is bringing Jesus to others. Loving others is not just about giving them what they need, it s
about teaching them how to provide for themselves. Let us practice mercy and compassion by resting
with God, renewing ourselves, and loving others. During the season of lent we reflect on the passion,
death, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Lent is a source of mercy and compassion in a way
that we practice fasting and abstinence and as much as possible drink water. Water has a chemical
formula of H2O which means, H for Honesty, H for Humility, for being humble enough to admit your
mistakes, and O for Obedience, for obeying the people in authority like our parents. These 3 are the
sources of mercy and compassion. That s why we should be honest, humble and obedient. Always
drink H20 on the season of Lent. The author spent his holy week in the Philippines.

The Viological Structure Of G-Protein Coupled Receptorss
INTRODUCTION
G protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) are highly specialised proteins responsible for the transmission
of signals across the cell membrane. They sense signaling molecules such as hormones and
neurotransmitters, and thus play a very important physiological role in the human body
(Venkatakrishnan et al., 2017). GPCRs are also known as metabotropic receptors, which indicates that
they are involved in intracellular signaling.
Scientific Background
The results from numerous research were combined to create a model for the structure of GPCRs and
the heterotrimeric G protein, which aided our understanding of the molecular nature of GPCRs and its
functions. GPCRs are proteins that span the plasma membrane 7 times, hence the name 7 ... Show

De Lean and Lefkowitz carried out competitive binding experiments to investigate the interaction
between extracellular ligands (both antagonist and agonist), GPCRs and X a membrane component.
Method
The antagonist [3H]DHA and the agonist [3H]HBI were incubated with freshly prepared plasma
membranes and appropriate unlabeled ligand for 60 minutes at 25oC. The reaction was stopped by the
addition of ice cold buffer, and filtered on glass fibre filters. After additional washings with 5ml of
buffer, the concentration of radioactive ligands (antagonists / agonists) trapped on the filters was
measured. Agonist binding is reversible, thus the regular incubation period (60 minutes) was doubled
to ensure that the conditions were compatible with true equilibrium. The binding of [3H]DHA and
[3H]HBI to the frog erythrocyte β Adrenergic receptor were plotted in saturation and competition
curves.
Results
It had been observed that the binding competition curve for antagonists are steep, and express low
affinity, On the other hand, binding competition curves for agonists are shallow, showing 2 distinct
binding states: high and low affinity state. They discovered that the addition of guanine receptors
could convert the high affinity state to low. This observation was also described in numerous other
GPCRs, such as

women who serve in the armed forces. But in recent years, our armed forces have seen a decline in
enlistments, which has reignited and old debate. Should we reinstate the Military Draft? This one
question has sparked a debate nationwide, between friends, family, and even perfect strangers.
Reinstating the draft is just one way to ensure people can continue to enjoy those freedoms the armed

This is not the truth at all. Mandatory service will provide those who serve many different types of
opportunities. Each man and woman, who serves in the military, no matter what branch, has the
opportunity to choose their field of work, or receive advanced training in an area they wish to pursue
in the civilian world after their enlistment. Furthermore, they may even be able to choose which state
they would live in while serving in the armed forces. This does not sound like slavery or even forced
slavery, this sounds more like an opportunity to receive training and other necessary qualities
companies and organizations are looking for in the civilian workforce. When looking at the whole

Currently our armed forces are voluntary and do not accurately represent the American population.
With the ideal draft system in place, it will allow for individuals from all aspects of society to

would be lowered. Although the armed forces would have to pay individuals more and the additional
cost of food, equipment, and other essential needs would go up the, the cost of recruiting, advertising

located on the Republic of the Marshall Islands on Majuro Atoll. The Washington Institutional Review
Board granted the Ministry of Health approval to commence the trial as requested. The Ministry of

The adherence to the xylitol toothpaste was likely to have been altered during this time. Assuming that
each child brushed with a quarter of a gram of toothpaste, they would have received less than four
thousandths of a gram of the effective amount of xylitol exposure daily. That is one twentieth of the
amount of xylitol that the children received during the trial. A 14 percent elevation was previously
noted when brushing twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste as opposed to brushing once with the same
fluoride toothpaste in a 2003 Cochrane review evaluating the fraction of prevented caries. This
suggests that the difference isn t significant in the type of toothpaste used whether it be fluoride or
xylitol but predominately how often high caries risk children brush their teeth.
Xylitol toothpaste is less economically feasible, with the cost of the xylitol toothpaste elevated
considerably higher than the average fluoride toothpaste. The commercially available xylitol
toothpaste used in the current study costs three times as much per ounce as over the counter fluoride
toothpastes (Chi, D. L, 2004 p. 6). Because of the greater concentration of xylitol that is required to
make the toothpaste effective elevating the cost above fluoride toothpaste, it is less practical for
parents to incorporate xylitol toothpaste in their children s daily oral care

of unsubstantiated information, in contrast to knowledge and fact based beliefs. Some have argued
that the distinction between objective and subjective assessments is neither useful nor accurate
because, in reality, there is no such thing as objective assessment. In fact, all assessments are created
with inherent biases built into decisions about the relevant subject matter and content, as well as
cultural (class, ethnic, and gender)

The Australian and American Freedom Rides Essay
The Australian and American Freedom Rides This essay briefly discusses the similarities and
differences of the Australian and American Freedom Rides history. Throughout the essay, there is a
discussion on what the reasons were for the protest of the Freedom Rides. It also points out the
duration of the protest and the major locations where they were held. The essay also shows the
different reactions to the protest and the influential behaviour it results in. The American Freedom
Rides were motivated by the Journey of Reconciliation in 1947, led by civil rights activists Bayard
Rustin and George Houser 1. The Freedom Rides in America involved riding a bus opposing the
segregation of black and whites riding together in buses2. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The duration of the American Freedom Rides occurred mainly in May 1961. Unlike in America, the
Freedom Rides in Australia took place later on the 12th February 19659; when the University of
Sydney students rode into the towns in northern New South Wales which contained large Aboriginal
populations 10. One of the main towns mentioned was at Moree; where they protested in swimming
pools, attracting a lot of violence. The Freedom Rides also passed through Wellington, Gulargambone,
Lismore, Bowraville and Kempsey. The duration of the Australian Freedom Rides occurred mainly in
February 1965.
In America, the reaction to the protest was very intense. Throughout the protest, the Freedom Riders
came across violence and the reaction of the protest was ruthless. While having to delay their journey
to change a slashed tire, one bus was firebombed and the Freedom Riders were beaten (by a white
mob). The second bus was similarly attacked and the passengers beaten .11 In America, there was a
Freedom Ride accompanied by the State Highway Patrol, taking their journey headed for
Montgomery; but when local police failed to protect them, they were again beaten 12.
Similar to America, the Freedom Rides in Australia gained publicity when the students were set upon
by angry crowds and placed under police protection 13. The students pressed into the entrance of the
Moree swimming pool, at the same time a furious crowd booed and catcalled 14. The dilemma

Essay On Texting And Driving
Making it illegal to use a hand held cell phone while driving is a smart and safe idea. Using a cell
phone while driving is distracting and dangerous, bringing damage to cars, people, relationships,
finances, and much more. Cell phones in this current society have taken over a majority of peoples
attention, having them while driving is reckless and life threatening. In order to use a cell phone one
must be looking at the screen to know what they are doing. When the driver takes their eyes off of the
road for longer than a second or two then they are automatically in grave danger. Without looking at
the road, someone could easily drive out of their lane and either hit another car or fall into a ditch
causing self harm. Cell phone usage while driving is an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These cell phones are causing accidents therefore, they are indirectly responsible for a plethora of
other problems as well, through the domino effect. For example, if a lady was driving her car and
received a text from her son that he needed gym shoes for school, then she proceeded to text him back
about what time he needed them and suddenly, she loses all focus she had on driving and turns it
towards her phone. Focus lost, she starts to drift towards the inside lane. Without so much as a
warning she has lost her life due to the drifting into the guard rail at 60 miles per hour. Her phone cost
that lady her life; it cost her husband his wife and numerous financial debt for the car and funeral
expenses, not to mention a life time of longing; and depressingly it cost her son his mother and
possibly his chance of going to college easily with their significant financial decline. Texting, or any
other cell phone usage, while driving does not only deprive people of their money or their loved ones,
but relationships too. One guy decides to let his best friend drive his car to work because his best
friend s car is in the shop. The best friend is running late and decides to call his boss and

Examples Of Police Militarization
It has become more prevalent in recent times of discussion to look at the increase in militarization of
police forces. The term police militarization often brings with it a stigma on the social aspect which
revolves around brutality and a lack of rights. One must ask first what is defined as police
militarization. Police militarization or to militarize is defined as Give (something, especially an
organization) a military character or style. This means that police militarization in essence is the
conversion from the beat cop into a police force that is organized and managed under a military
model. A militaristic model is seen as being focused on solving problems through the use of force as
the best solution. With that in mind we are now able to identify police departments that are organized
under these beliefs. Through the observations of the culture, organization, and material aspects one
could safely gather the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then the idea is to go back in with officers who are more oriented in community policing. The
problem with this tactic is that it is hard for a lot of the departments to understand when the proper
time is to take out the tactical teams and insert the community teams. One of the perceived negative
impacts of this culture involving militarization state the possibility that it forces officers into believing
that they are to treat the people they serve as enemy combatants. Militarization of policing encourages
officers to adopt a warrior mentality and think of people the people they are supposed to serve as
enemies (ACLU 2). It is important to keep those ideals in check in order to prevent hostilities that

Using Moving Averages in Stock Trading
A way to use moving averages is to use them as dynamic support and resistanceWe like to call it
dynamic because it s not like your traditional horizontal suppo resistance lines. They are constantly
changing depending on recent price action. There are many traders out there who look at these moving
averages as key sup resistance. These traders will buy when price dips and tests the moving averagif
price rises and touches the moving average. Watch the blue line as support.
It looks like it held really well! Every time price approached 20 EMA and tested it, it acted as
resistance and price bounced back down. Amazing, huh?
One thing you should keep in mind is that these are just like your normal support and resistance lines.
This means that price won t always bounce perfectly from the moving average. Sometimes it will go
past it a little bit before heading back in the direction of the trend.
There are also times when price will blast past it altogether. What some traders do is that they pop on
two moving averages, and only buy or sell once price is in the middle of the space between the two
moving averages. You could call this area the zone .(figure 11) In an uptrend, as with an uptrend line,
the moving average line shows more instances where the average coincided with or acted as, support
and in a downtrend, similar to what happens using a down trend line, there are many instances where
the moving average coincided with resistance.
There are some traders who use intraday

Those Winter Sundays Figurative Language
In the poem Those Winter Sundays by Robert Hayden, is about a man looking back on his childhood
experience, and relationship with his father. The father of this man was the type of person to do
arduous labor, and be unacknowledged for it. Although the father deserved to not be acknowledged
because he only went through this labor for his obligation and expectations to do so, not out of love,
compassion, nor alacrity of any kind. He was an austere, anodyne, and abusive father but, his son still
believes he could have been a better son by behaving more appropriately, and giving him at least a
time where someone recognized and acknowledged his efforts through gratitude. The son thought that
if he did so, then things between them may have been better. Through the wording, consonance, strong
words, and meaning in the poem Those Winter Days exemplify the poor relationship between father
and son, being bethought by his son as a man leading to his remorse that he could ve been on better
terms with his father.

Taking a Look at Capital Structure
LITERATURE REVIEW
Literature Review:
Rao (2001) made an attempt to explain the variation of capital structure across industries in India
during pre and post liberalization regime and also examine if there is any significant change in
average industry level capital structure during post liberalization regime. The study is based on
industry wise data of 85 industries in manufacturing sector the results shows that there has been
significant decrease in leverage during post liberalization regime and there has been change in set of
explanatory variables for capital structure. The most significant explanatory variables for capital
structure during pre liberalization regime were the measure of profitability, risk and asset type. During

According to Richard Weil, Med, CDE, the answer is swelling in the muscle compartment that result
from an influx of white blood cells, which are anti inflammatory, and other nutrients and fluids that
flow to the muscle to repair the damage after a tough workout. The type of muscle referred to is
microscopic and is part of the normal process of growth in the body called anabolism. It is not the type
of damage or injury that you see your doctor about. The swelling and inflammation can build up for
days after a workout, and that is why muscle soreness may be worse two , three, or three or even four
days after a workout for muscles to heal completely depending on the intensity of the workout. Muscle
soreness can be prevented with some measure taken. Start exercise program slowly and exercise for a
short time only. Increase your activity a little each day until personal goal is reach. Once an individual
has experienced delayed muscle soreness at specific exercise intensity, he or she shouldn t encounter
that sensation again until the intensity level is increased. This is because muscle soreness has been
shown to produce a rapid adaptation response, which means that the muscles adapt to a given exercise
intensity level. Unless the exercise intensity level is changed, soreness will not occur. Base on how
much intensity level as individual increase the recommended approach to preventing delayed muscle
soreness are as follows; gradual progression and conservative increases in

The Chemistry Of Diffusion Of Osmosis
Diffusion is the random movement of particles, caused by kinetic energy, from an area of higher
concentration to an area of lower concentration. Once the two substances are in equilibrium, diffusion
still occurs. However, the substances stay in equilibrium, as the random movement is equal across
both sides. Osmosis is the diffusion of water, through a selectively permeable membrane. A selectively
permeable membrane is a membrane that allows certain molecules to pass through itself, and is
resistant to other molecules. Osmosis is a very important process by cells, with uses such as the
absorption of water. Many cells are placed in solutions with a similar solute solvent ratio, to prevent
rapid intake or expulsion of water. Osmosis causes a change in turgor pressure, and in osmotic
pressure. Tugor pressure is the pressure exerted on the cytoplasm on the cell caused by the intake or
expulsion of water. Osmotic pressure is the pressure of the water If the turgor pressure in a cell is too
great, than the cell may explode. If the turgor pressure inside the cell is too low, the cell will shrivel.

International Corporate Governance. In recent years the issue of corporate governance has become a
keenly debated topic in international finance. In developed countries, some of the biggest corporate

Thus the rules which have helped these corporations to prosper will be perpetuated. This in turn makes

are other reasons for the huge differences between countries legal systems. The size of the economy
and the nature of business therein must play a part in the types of governance systems created.
Cultural differences must also affect the laws, at a more fundamental level. Conclusion In 2000
Katarina Pistor wrote a paper which examined convergence/divergence issue in transition economies.
She concluded that a simple convergence story does not do justice to the complexity of legal change
(Pistor 2000, pp. 27). On of the key issues raised in this paper was that legal convergence in transition
economies is mainly because of an external supply of legal solutions, and not as a result of the
adaptation of successful strategies. Another point was that in many countries, it appeared that systems
were developed in response to problems and not with a long term goal in mind. In general, it is clear
that neither the convergence or divergence models, tell us the whole story. Whilst some level of
convergence has been observed, the persistence of divergence is undeniable. The importance of path

The Importance Of My Senior Year Of High School
When thinking about my senior year of high school I start to think about a tradition that happened
every year with the senior class. It seems wired but the senior class always seemed to be up to
something every week. I remember thinking my Jr year the my senior class was gonna change how
people viewed us. I was so right.
You see every year before are home football game against Creighton Prep. Our schools for years
would be fighting back and forth. It got to the point where every year the week of the big game the
boys at Prep would walk into Westside and either are pools or our courage rock would be covered in
blue paint. I remember my senior year was the year that everything changed. We where tired of prep
always picking on us and Westside students where not allowed to retaliate. If we where caught doing
so we wouldn t be able to walk to the stage come graduation day.
Picture this. It was Thursday night around 8:30pm the setting was a high school football field. All the
lights where one and there where about 500 students on the field. The student had tents put up. Some
people just brought sleeping bags. You can see the football players throwing a football back a forth.
There where about 25 teacher that where there also just walking around and hanging out with the
students. There was the wrestling team and baseball boy protecting the entrances along with some of
the male teachers. It was a sight to see just knowing that us students where not going to do anything.

The Components Of The Sherman Antitrust Act-1890
Peyton Fox 12/3/17 Block B7 Unit 4 legislation Project Sherman Antitrust Act 1890 The Sherman
Antitrust Act is the oldest of America s Antitrust laws. It was signed into law by President Benjamin
Harrison on July 2, 1890. The purpose of the Sherman Antitrust Act was to preserve free competition
in business and made it a crime to take over any part of trade or commerce. It was intended to regulate
interstate commerce, and to regain a balance in industry allowing equal opportunities to all businesses.
The Sherman Antitrust Act had its supporters and detractors. Supporters of the Sherman Antitrust Act
were the farmers because they had no competition with the big businesses. They also stated that
prohibiting unreasonable restraints on trade would allow them to expand their business. Those
opposed of the Sherman Antitrust Act believed that big companies should be able to decide what
happens in business markets. Business owners also opposed this due to protect the process of
competition. Applying strong incentives for businesses to operate efficiently, keeping prices down and
quality up. Homestead Act 1862 The Homestead Act was passed on May 20, 1862. It stated anyone
over the age of 21 who was the head of a family could obtain up to 160 acres of public land if they
lived on it for five years and make improvements. It was intended to move more settlers west, to give
more free states voice in congress. People decided that it would be profitable to turn

Ledbetter v. Goodyear Tire Rubber Co., 05 1074
Summary of one or more of the main legal arguments:
It seems this class has made me realize how tricky the justice system can be. I have been coaxed into
reading more and more about the law and realizing that everything is not as black and white as it
seems. For this legal research paper I decided to analyze the law concerning pay discrimination. This
is a subject dear to my heart, as I believe I witnessed some of this first hand in relation to my wife
when she managed a branch of a credit union.
Lilly Ledbetter worked at Goodyear s facility in Gadsden, Alabama, for 19 years, beginning in 1979.
She first contacted federal authorities in March 1998, alleging sex discrimination. A formal ... Show

Brief overview of final outcome of lawsuit or current state of lawsuit
A divided 5 4 high court upheld the ruling that she only had the federally mandated 180 day window
in which to make her initial claim. The decision below is wrong, argued Ledbetter s lawyers in the
petition. The Title VII limitations period does not provide an employer license to continue pay
discrimination in perpetuity whenever an employee fails to immediately challenge the initial pay
decisions. (http://docket.medill.northwestern.edu/archives/003741.php) The EEOC (Equal
Employment Opportunity Commission) charging period is triggered when a discrete unlawful practice
takes place. Such a filing deadline protects employers from the burden of defending claims arising
from employment decisions long past. (http://money.cnn.com/2007/05/29/news/pay discrimination/)
Update: George Miller (D California) and top Democrats just introduced the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay
Act. (http://www.house.gov/apps/list/speech/edlabor_dem/rel062207.html) Justice was denied to Ms.
Ledbetter, and she now has to live the rest of her life with years of pay discrimination. We cannot
allow this injustice to continue for other workers. The fact is that Ms. Ledbetter was discriminated
against with nearly every paycheck she received. The Supreme Court told employers that they could
escape responsibility by hiding their decision to discriminate and run out the clock. (Miller, George,

Summary and Analysis of Dr. Eric Foner s Lecture on The Emancipation of Abraham Lincoln Dr. Eric
Foner, professor at Columbia University, gave a lecture on Abraham Lincoln s evolution of the ideas
of slavery. Even before the American Civil War began, Foner said Lincoln believed slavery was
wrong. However, when he was challenged on the issue, Lincoln did not believe that African
Americans should be treated, as total equals with whites. The beliefs on slavery and how to end it
slowly changed in Lincoln when the Civil War took place. The war soon became the chief tool to
finally end an institution, which Lincoln believed, was the most immoral. Foner discussed Lincoln s ...

As the war was ending, Lincoln s advisors told him that freed slaves would be unruly and dangerous.
Despite these opinions, Lincoln told blacks not to use violence, but they did have a right to defend
themselves if they were attacked. He also told blacks to search for jobs with reasonable wages, and
that they had a right to work anywhere. He also pushed for some freed blacks and black soldiers in
Louisiana to have the right to vote. Lincoln felt the black troops should definitely have the right to
vote due to their sacrifices for the Union cause. In addition to all of this, Foner said what was even
more amazing was what Lincoln said in a final speech on slavery. He said, slavery was not just a
southern issue, but it was an American issue. God probably punished the nation for the use of slavery,
and even though the country wanted the war to end, God wanted it to continue until all the wealth of
slavery was gone. What Lincoln was trying to do in the end was to get the country to confront the
reality of slavery. As Foner pointed out, Lincoln questioned, but did not answer the question of
slavery. Even though we do not know what Lincoln would have done if he had lived, what is clear is
that the nation still wrestles with the topic of slavery, race and equality today. This presentation by
Foner was very informative and enjoyable. I would highly recommend this presentation to other

1. Define American Call/Put option 10 pts
Answer
Options allow investors to hedge against risk. If one expects stock prices to rise, then he/she may like
to invest in stocks. However, buying stocks also entails risk because of price fluctuation. The risk will
be potentially large in case price falls to zero. In order to avoid risk one may like to buy a call option.
An American call option gives one the right, but not an obligation, to buy a specified number of shares
of a stock for a specified price called exercise or strike price before the maturity date or on ... Show

Circulating Tumor Cells ( Ctcs )
Circulating tumor cells (CTCs)
Circulating tumor cells (CTCs), represent tumor cells that contain a heterogeneous populace of cells,
including apoptotic tumor and viable tumor cells that have shed into the vasculature or lymphatics
from a primary or metastatic tumor and are carried around the body in the circulation by undergoing
phenotypic changes that are accompanied by a process called as epithelial mesenchymal transition
(EMT) 64 68. Evidence now suggests that the tumors has ability to make their own blood vessels

However, it is not necessarily always associated with metastasis, as only 0.01% of CTCs takes part in
metastasis92, 94, 95. Moreover, highly sensitive, single cell investigation showed marked
heterogeneity of individual CTCs for protein expression and localization, and the CTCs reflected the
character of both the primary biopsy and the transformations seen in the metastatic sites96, 97, which
corresponds with the evidence of seed and soil hypothesis98 100.
Amassing proof has demonstrated that CTCs can be utilized as a biomarker to non invasively
supervise cancer progression and provide direction to monitor the treatment101 103. The American
Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) approved CTCs as a tumor marker for breast cancer in
2007104, 105.
Nevertheless, CTCs detection, identification, enumeration and molecular characterization are very
challenging, since CTCs are uncommon in peripheral blood of patients (that is, 1 100 CTCs among
billions of normal cells) with a half life between 1 to 2.4 hours and due to its fragile nature it tends to
degrade when collected in standard blood collecting tubes106 109, 110, 111.
CTCs being heterogeneous population of cells, CTCs can be positively or negatively enriched on the
basis of: 1. Physical characteristics (that is, cell diameter 15 μm, nuclear cytoplasmic ratio 0.8, electric
charges, deformability, the hyperchromatic nuclei, sunken

Analyzing the Juvenile Justice System
The juvenile justice system is imperfect, at best, and part of this stems from the fact that juvenile
justice, as a specific, discrete category of crime and punishment is still a relatively recent
phenomenon. In fact, the notion of childhood and adolescence as distinct phases of human
development is a novel idea that did not truly emerge until the twentieth century, so it is only natural
that some elements of the juvenile justice system seem to have been made up they went along. Now,
however, after substantial research into juvenile delinquency, it causes, and potential solutions, a much
clearer picture of the phenomenon is emerging that will allow parents, teachers, legislators, and law
enforcement officials to better reduce juvenile delinquency without imposing unnecessarily harsh
restrictions of juveniles. By examining the history of the juvenile justice system alongside more recent
research into juvenile delinquency, it will be possible to see how the most effective treatments going
forward will likely focus on reducing risk before delinquency occurs and rehabilitating juveniles
already in the justice system, as opposed to more punitive measures that mark juveniles as a criminal
and thus hinder them for the rest of their lives. It is necessary to begin this study with a look at the
history of the juvenile justice system, because as mentioned above, the notion of childhood and
adolescence as a distinct phase of human development, and thus deserving of special

The Anglo-Saxon Period
The Anglo Saxon period is the oldest known period of time that had a complex culture with stable
government, art, and a fairly large amount of literature. Many people believe that the culture then was
extremely unsophisticated, but it was actually extremely advanced for the time. Despite the many
advancements, the period was almost always in a state of war. Despite this fact, the Anglo Saxon
period is a time filled with great advancements and discoveries in culture, society, government,
religion, literature, and art. The Angles were a Germanic tribe that occupied the region which is now
Scleswig Holstein, Germany. With their fellow ethnic groups, they formed the people who came to be
known as the English. The Saxons were a Germanic people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Christian themes found in the epic, however, however are not integrated into the main part of the
essentially pagan tale (Hutchinson Book of the Arts, www.sirs.com). Works such as Deor, The
Wanderer, The Seafarer, and other poems follows the same basic theme as Beowulf. In these works, a
happy past is contrasted with a precarious and desolate present. This type of heroic poetry celebrates
great heroism even in the face of great danger and overwhelming odds (Hutchinson Book of the Arts,
www.sirs.com). Most of the Christian poetry is marked by the belief of a simple, relatively
unsophisticated Christianity. The names of only two authors are known. Caedmon, whose story is told
by the Venerable Bede, is the earliest known English poet. Not much is known about him, and almost
all of his work has been lost. The other known poet is named Cynewulf. The only thing known about
him is that he signed the poems Juliana, and The Fates of the Apostles (The Columbia Encyclopedia).
Poetry in the Anglo Saxon period is very different from modern poetry. The verse form for old English
poetry is a line of four stressed syllables and an unfixed number of unstressed syllables that are broken
by a caesura. The lines are usually end stopped and unrhymed. Although writing poetry was very
popular in the age, people

African American Lifestyle Essay
There are many races of people out here in the world that does not know a thing about their history but

I have asked some African Americans what they think about that movie, and they would say that was a
long time ago, or that was not us, or that it does not mean anything to them. This was the beginning of
what happened to us, and how the African Americans became lost of themselves. They were forced to
take on Christianity, which is a made up religion that the Caucasian race made up to rule and have
power over the African Americans at that time. The Bible is their book that they follow today, but the
Holy Qur an is truly their holy book. The Bible has been set in a way for the African race to believe in
at that time. The people took out the real parts of the Bible, and put in their own interpretations to be
believed in. This is what the Africans were taught, and forced to take on. Islam is the fastest growing
religion today amongst the African Americans. Many African Americans are reverting back to Al
Islam. The African Americans think that there is no one that cares about them. The Honorable Elijah
Muhammad came back for the African Americans. He came to raise the African Americans up, and to
wake them up to bring them back to consciousness Islam. He let them know that Allah cares about
them, and that it is his mission to teach Islam to the African Americans in particular. This shows that

Besides Jamestown and other settlements in Virginia, the Plymouth colony was one of the earliest successful colonies to be founded by the British. The colony went great lengths and traveled long distances to establish a friendship with Chief Massasoit to help ensure the colony s success. Gifts were exchanged and Chief Massasoit gave his sons English names to show respect for each other. King Philip tried to maintained peace for a number of years with the colonist, but after he ... Furthermore, the middle one was design with more of green, black, and red color on the head and legs side that gives patterns to the artwork. Transportation Has A Part Of Human History Transportation has been a part of human history since the beginning be it walking on foot on a trail through the forests, ships across the oceans, roads created by the horse or horse and carriage, to the rail roads that transected the United States to modern roadways. Many advancements on roadways throughout the years were made as each new form of transportation was improved. Then one day man could fly and hence another form of transportation made it possible for man to go from place to place in a fraction of the time compared to car or rail road. Along with these improved modes of transportation came new and inherent risks like head on collisions in vehicles, planes falling from the sky, and tunnel collapses in subways. With risk and threat comes the need for security and safety practices. Cars were made safer and roadways were improved to include guard rails, painted lines, traffic lights and stop signs. As the population grew so did the need to expand the ability to move about. Interstates were built, airports were built and subways were now a means of travel in the urban setting. As technology and the transportations system grew so did the threat and risk of damage from either natural or manmade disasters. Second is to renew one s self. Third is to love others. Pope Francis tells us that To be an ambassador for Christ means to invite everyone to a renewed personal encounter with Christ. (Evangelii Gaudium). A renewed personal encounter with Christ is witnessed when we rest with God. Rest is very crucial to everyone s life. Another way of practicing mercy and compassion is to love others. Loving others unlike the renewal of one s self focuses on giving love to other people. Loving others is bringing Jesus to others. Loving others is not just about giving them what they need, it s about teaching them how to provide for themselves. Let us practice mercy and compassion by resting with God, renewing ourselves, and loving others. During the season of lent we reflect on the passion, death, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Lent is a source of mercy and compassion in a way that we practice fasting and abstinence and as much as possible drink water. Water has a chemical formula of H2O which means, H for Honesty, H for Humility, for being humble enough to admit your mistakes, and O for Obedience, for obeying the people in authority like our parents. These 3 are the sources of mercy and compassion. That s why we should be honest, humble and obedient. Always drink H20 on the season of Lent. The author spent his holy week in the Philippines. ... • 15. The Viological Structure Of G-Protein Coupled Receptorss INTRODUCTION G protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) are highly specialised proteins responsible for the transmission of signals across the cell membrane. They sense signaling molecules such as hormones and neurotransmitters, and thus play a very important physiological role in the human body (Venkatakrishnan et al., 2017). GPCRs are also known as metabotropic receptors, which indicates that they are involved in intracellular signaling. Scientific Background The results from numerous research were combined to create a model for the structure of GPCRs and the heterotrimeric G protein, which aided our understanding of the molecular nature of GPCRs and its functions. GPCRs are proteins that span the plasma membrane 7 times, hence the name 7 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... De Lean and Lefkowitz carried out competitive binding experiments to investigate the interaction between extracellular ligands (both antagonist and agonist), GPCRs and X a membrane component. Method The antagonist [3H]DHA and the agonist [3H]HBI were incubated with freshly prepared plasma membranes and appropriate unlabeled ligand for 60 minutes at 25oC. The reaction was stopped by the addition of ice cold buffer, and filtered on glass fibre filters. After additional washings with 5ml of buffer, the concentration of radioactive ligands (antagonists / agonists) trapped on the filters was measured. Agonist binding is reversible, thus the regular incubation period (60 minutes) was doubled to ensure that the conditions were compatible with true equilibrium. The binding of [3H]DHA and [3H]HBI to the frog erythrocyte β Adrenergic receptor were plotted in saturation and competition curves. Results It had been observed that the binding competition curve for antagonists are steep, and express low affinity, On the other hand, binding competition curves for agonists are shallow, showing 2 distinct binding states: high and low affinity state. They discovered that the addition of guanine receptors could convert the high affinity state to low. This observation was also described in numerous other GPCRs, such as ... But in recent years, our armed forces have seen a decline in enlistments, which has reignited and old debate. Should we reinstate the Military Draft? This one question has sparked a debate nationwide, between friends, family, and even perfect strangers. Reinstating the draft is just one way to ensure people can continue to enjoy those freedoms the armed forces have fought for over the years. Each man and woman, who serves in the military, no matter what branch, has the opportunity to choose their field of work, or receive advanced training in an area they wish to pursue in the civilian world after their enlistment. Furthermore, they may even be able to choose which state they would live in while serving in the armed forces. This does not sound like slavery or even forced slavery, this sounds more like an opportunity to receive training and other necessary qualities companies and organizations are looking for in the civilian workforce. When looking at the whole picture, and deciding the pro s and con s of the military draft I have one final are for you to look at. The adherence to the xylitol toothpaste was likely to have been altered during this time. Assuming that each child brushed with a quarter of a gram of toothpaste, they would have received less than four thousandths of a gram of the effective amount of xylitol exposure daily. That is one twentieth of the amount of xylitol that the children received during the trial. A 14 percent elevation was previously noted when brushing twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste as opposed to brushing once with the same fluoride toothpaste in a 2003 Cochrane review evaluating the fraction of prevented caries. This suggests that the difference isn t significant in the type of toothpaste used whether it be fluoride or xylitol but predominately how often high caries risk children brush their teeth. Xylitol toothpaste is less economically feasible, with the cost of the xylitol toothpaste elevated considerably higher than the average fluoride toothpaste. The commercially available xylitol toothpaste used in the current study costs three times as much per ounce as over the counter fluoride toothpastes (Chi, D. L, 2004 p. 6). Because of the greater concentration of xylitol that is required to make the toothpaste effective elevating the cost above fluoride toothpaste, it is less practical for parents to incorporate xylitol toothpaste in their children s daily oral care ... These traders will buy when price dips and tests the moving averagif price rises and touches the moving average. Watch the blue line as support. It looks like it held really well! Every time price approached 20 EMA and tested it, it acted as resistance and price bounced back down. Amazing, huh? Sometimes it will go past it a little bit before heading back in the direction of the trend. There are also times when price will blast past it altogether. Although protecting teeth during a sport or an activity may seem insignificant, it is important that students do what their parents and coaches ask them to put on as a type of protection. Mouthpieces are a type of protection that are found in activities such as hockey, football, wrestling and boxing. • 36. The Chemistry Of Diffusion Of Osmosis Diffusion is the random movement of particles, caused by kinetic energy, from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration. Once the two substances are in equilibrium, diffusion still occurs. However, the substances stay in equilibrium, as the random movement is equal across both sides. Osmosis is the diffusion of water, through a selectively permeable membrane. A selectively permeable membrane is a membrane that allows certain molecules to pass through itself, and is resistant to other molecules. Osmosis is a very important process by cells, with uses such as the absorption of water. Many cells are placed in solutions with a similar solute solvent ratio, to prevent rapid intake or expulsion of water. Osmosis causes a change in turgor pressure, and in osmotic pressure. Tugor pressure is the pressure exerted on the cytoplasm on the cell caused by the intake or expulsion of water. Osmotic pressure is the pressure of the water If the turgor pressure in a cell is too great, than the cell may explode. If the turgor pressure inside the cell is too low, the cell will shrivel. In recent years the issue of corporate governance has become a keenly debated topic in international finance. In developed countries, some of the biggest corporate collapses in history have brought about a change in focus. Bebchuk and Roe accept that there are other reasons for the huge differences between countries legal systems. The size of the economy and the nature of business therein must play a part in the types of governance systems created. Cultural differences must also affect the laws, at a more fundamental level. Conclusion In 2000 Katarina Pistor wrote a paper which examined convergence/divergence issue in transition economies. She concluded that a simple convergence story does not do justice to the complexity of legal change (Pistor 2000, pp. 27). On of the key issues raised in this paper was that legal convergence in transition economies is mainly because of an external supply of legal solutions, and not as a result of the adaptation of successful strategies. Another point was that in many countries, it appeared that systems were developed in response to problems and not with a long term goal in mind. In general, it is clear that neither the convergence or divergence models, tell us the whole story. Whilst some level of convergence has been observed, the persistence of divergence is undeniable. Even before the American Civil War began, Foner said Lincoln believed slavery was wrong. However, when he was challenged on the issue, Lincoln did not believe that African Americans should be treated, as total equals with whites. The beliefs on slavery and how to end it slowly changed in Lincoln when the Civil War took place. The war soon became the chief tool to finally end an institution, which Lincoln believed, was the most immoral. Foner discussed Lincoln s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite these opinions, Lincoln told blacks not to use violence, but they did have a right to defend themselves if they were attacked. He also told blacks to search for jobs with reasonable wages, and that they had a right to work anywhere. He also pushed for some freed blacks and black soldiers in Louisiana to have the right to vote. Lincoln felt the black troops should definitely have the right to vote due to their sacrifices for the Union cause. In addition to all of this, Foner said what was even more amazing was what Lincoln said in a final speech on slavery. He said, slavery was not just a southern issue, but it was an American issue. God probably punished the nation for the use of slavery, and even though the country wanted the war to end, God wanted it to continue until all the wealth of slavery was gone. What Lincoln was trying to do in the end was to get the country to confront the reality of slavery. As Foner pointed out, Lincoln questioned, but did not answer the question of slavery. Even though we do not know what Lincoln would have done if he had lived, what is clear is that the nation still wrestles with the topic of slavery, race and equality today. Analyzing the Juvenile Justice System The juvenile justice system is imperfect, at best, and part of this stems from the fact that juvenile justice, as a specific, discrete category of crime and punishment is still a relatively recent phenomenon. In fact, the notion of childhood and adolescence as distinct phases of human development is a novel idea that did not truly emerge until the twentieth century, so it is only natural that some elements of the juvenile justice system seem to have been made up they went along. Now, however, after substantial research into juvenile delinquency, it causes, and potential solutions, a much clearer picture of the phenomenon is emerging that will allow parents, teachers, legislators, and law enforcement officials to better reduce juvenile delinquency without imposing unnecessarily harsh restrictions of juveniles. By examining the history of the juvenile justice system alongside more recent research into juvenile delinquency, it will be possible to see how the most effective treatments going forward will likely focus on reducing risk before delinquency occurs and rehabilitating juveniles already in the justice system, as opposed to more punitive measures that mark juveniles as a criminal and thus hinder them for the rest of their lives.
