Cons Of Political Campaign Financing
Political Campaign Financing
Political campaign financing refers to all finances that have been raised and expended in order to
promote political candidates, parties, and initiatives. According to a survey conducted in November
2018, when questioned Do you know what political campaign financing is? approximately 50% of
respondents answered yes, 27% answered no and 23% answered that they had heard of it. The same
survey relayed that only 4% of participants had positive views, 35% had negative views and the
remaining 61% were unsure of their views on campaign financing. Yet when asked the question
Regarding the role of money in American political campaigns, what level of influence do you think
money has? 96% of respondents said too much, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The FECA, however, opened the way for a major financing loophole: soft money. Soft money
includes contributions and expenses that are technically not associated with individual candidates.
Examples of this would be issue advertising as well as get out the vote initiatives. Although soft
money never directly reaches campaigns, the activities that it sponsors definitively boosts individual
candidates in the polls and allows donors to remain unnoticed.
The court case Buckley v. Valeo (1976) resolved the question: Did the limits placed on electoral
expenditures by the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971, and related provisions of the Internal
Revenue Code of 1954, violate the First Amendment s freedom of speech and association clauses?
(Buckley v. Valeo). This question first came into play following the infamous Watergate scandal.
Congress wanted to end corruption in political campaigns, particularly the financial contributions.
Congress law created limits on the amount of money that an individual could contribute to a
campaign. It was required the campaign to report contributions above a certain amount of money. This
led to the creation of the Federal Election Commission, or the FEC, a governmental agency designed
to enforce this statute. This influential case concluded that restrictions on individual contributions did
not violate the First Amendment as

British Separation Of Sudan Research Paper
The British came over to take control of Sudan in 1898, because they wanted the Suez Canal that was
constructed in 1869 to be a part of the route that would help be a flourishing portion to India and to
conserve their interests in Egypt. Sudan was a community ruled by the Anglo Egyptian Condominium,
however, Egypt in reality had very scarce power over Sudan, because Egypt ruled as if it was
alongside under the control of the British. The British did not have enough power to rule the entire
country of Sudan while they attempted to have power over half of the world, so they had to split it up
which is called the divide and rule policy. The separating of provinces slowed down the progression in
their social and economical lives in Southern Sudan.

Essay on The Cosmological Argument for the Existence of God
The Cosmological Argument attempts to prove that God exists by showing that there cannot be an
infinite number of regressions of causes to things that exist. It states that there must be a final
uncaused cause of all things. This uncaused cause is asserted to be God.
Arguments like this are thought up to recognize why we and the universe exist. The Cosmological
Argument takes several forms but is basically represented below.
Cosmological Argument
Things exist
It is possible for those things not to exist Whatever has the possibility of non existence, yet exists, has
been caused to exist. Something cannot bring itself into existence because it would have had to exist
to do ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Weaknesses of the argument
One of the weaknesses of the argument is that if all things need a cause to exist, then God Himself
must also, by definition, need a cause to exist. But this only pushes causation back and implies that
there must be an infinite number of causes, which cannot be. This is contradictory. Also, by definition,
God is uncaused.
There are two forms of the cosmological argument. One is the Kalam argument: Like all cosmological
arguments, the kalam cosmological argument is an argument from the existence of the world or
universe to the existence of God. The existence of the universe, such arguments claim, stands in need
of explanation. The only adequate explanation, the arguments suggest, is that God created it.
What distinguishes the kalam cosmological argument from other forms of cosmological argument is
that it rests on the idea that the universe has a beginning in time. Modal forms of the cosmological
argument are consistent with the universe having an infinite past. With the kalam cosmological
argument, however, it is precisely because the universe is thought to have a beginning in time that the
existence of the universe is thought to stand in need of explanation.
The argument has the following structure:
(1) Everything that has a beginning of its existence has a cause

Virtue Ethics Research Paper
Virtue ethics contends that to live ethically is to live virtuously, and conversely, to live virtuously is to
live ethically. This roots in Nichomachean Ethics and Aristotelian philosophy that to cultivate a happy
life over time, one must make a habit of excellence as it does not come from singular acts. Vaughn
presents this as, what should I be? A virtue ethicist is not concerned, or defined by acts alone, but the
virtues that motivate them such as compassion, honesty, and loyalty. This also relates to a whole
being, again harkening back to Aristotle, rather than just a rule or principle being followed as a matter
of rightness. To reference on the website http://www.pursuit of happiness.org/, Aristotle said that, for
the same reason we cannot say that children are happy, any more than we can say an ... Show more

His example: the right action is performed by a virtuous person and a virtuous person performs the
right action can be likened to the question of which came first, the chicken or the egg? To end the
debate, additional ethical models must be applied and this leads away from pure virtue ethics.
Certainly, all people should want to do what is right and live a life of happiness, but there comes a
point where one is likely to have to apply something more than virtue to a situation (i.e. the examples
at the end of the chapter where the decision is more between two or virtues than what is simply right
or wrong). This is where Aristotle has given additional, well thought guidance in applying Golden
Means, the balance between two extremes. And not just the most extreme in the strictest definitions,
but rather as applied to everyone given their situation, their life, their decisions and the basis for them
as well as the virtue in question. To live the sum of a happy life, all things should be considered with
this in mind, aka all things in

Women s Rights And Responsibility Of Greek Women
I can say it is hard to see how in the Ancient Greece 1600 328 BC, Greek Citizen Women s lives were
largely restricted in many different ways. I think that Greek women are more respectable when they
are married and invisible, because it is a way that a man can show some type of authority and
masculinity by having their women invisible with no rights, and education. I believed that women
once they are willing to be prostitutes men s can say that female are not elective to be an honorable
wife. Meaning that prostitute women s are not pure and for that reason I can say the only reason why
females are able to be free and they can be eligible to be visible and be educated. We can see how

Mosquitoes are the host to many diseases the pose a threat to humans, domestic animals, and wildlife.
Endemic birds are the most affected by the transmission of avian diseases through mosquitoes.
Controlling the mosquito popular is key in bringing back the native bird population. The Native
Hawaiian bird population is particularly prone to mosquitoes and other foreign pests because of how
isolated Hawaii is from the rest of the world. Native Hawaiian birds outside of the range of
mosquitoes at around 1,600 m while birds at a lower elevation have been going extinct due to

Utopia In John Foster s Story The Machine Stops
In Fosters story The Machine Stops he displays two points of view into the utopian society ruled by
the machine, which prove Rothstein s Idea that one man s utopia is another man s dystopia. The first
character in his story, Vashti, Is content with her life and would consider society close to a utopia. The
second character, Kuno, Vashti s son, is not as pleased with his situation. The clashing opinions give
the reader a lot to think about when considering Rothstein s idea.
Vashti, the woman at the beginning of the story, lives out her days as many other people of this time
do, sitting alone in an arm chair in the middle of their room. Everything is brought to her at a moment
s notice, which makes moving from her spot a seemingly pointless thing to do. For her, everything is
good enough . When she refers to the way the machine cannot display the emotions of another, while
talking with her son, she disregards the imperfection saying that the idea this communication is an
idea that was good enough for all practical purposes. She goes on to say in her narration that
something good enough had long since been accepted by our race. For her, good enough is perfect. ...

Positive Attitudes Toward Medical Ethics
In this study, of the whole 380 subjects under study, 47.7% (180 subjects) were men, and 52.6% (200
subjects) were women. Moreover, all subjects belonged to the 19 27 age range, and the mean and
standard deviation of samples age were 22.48±2.7. In terms of marital status, the majority of subjects
were single (77.1% or 293 subjects). Additionally, in terms of education, 180 subjects (47.4%) were
medical students, 113 subjects (29.7%) were majoring in nursing, and 87 subjects (22.9%) were
midwifery students.
The results showed that 75.8% (288 subjects) of students held positive attitudes towards medical
ethics (with a mean and standard deviation of 4.500± 0.73). The highest and lowest values of attitudes
towards medical ethics belonged to the principle of beneficence (with a mean and standard deviation
of 4.62± 0.67) and the principle of justice (with a mean and standard deviation of 4.29± 0.80),
respectively (see Table 1).
The independent t test showed a statistically significant difference between the mean scores of
students attitudes in terms of gender, indicating that the male students attitudes were better than those
among the female students (p positive attitudes towards professional ethics through various ways,
including retraining courses, and they should be prepared in the face of numerous ethical challenges in

Spanking A Child Essay
The textbook defines physical child abuse as, any act that results in a nonaccidental physical injury by
a person who has care, custody, or control of a child (p.157). Many people disagree on what the term
child abuse means. Yelling at a child or spanking a child is not considered child abuse based on this
definition. However it is possible that spanking a child can cause injury, but most medical and legal
authorities will not consider it child abuse unless the force is sufficient to leave marks. A number of
parents spank their children in order to teach them discipline when they do not listen or act out, but
because of the controversial question of whether or not spanking is child abuse most parents have
sought other forms of discipline. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Committee on the Rights of the Child in the General Comment No. 8 defines corporal punishment
as, any punishment in which physical force is used and intended to cause some degree of pain or
discomfort, however light. Most involves hitting ( smacking , slapping , spanking ) children, with the
hand or with an implement (unicef website). Corporal punishment has been used in schools as a
method of discipline and as a form of punishment for committing a crime. Some people will say that
corporal punishment is no different from physical abuse, because your intending to cause some degree
of pain or discomfort. However from my personal experience I went to an elementary school where
they were allowed to spank the children as long as the child s parents had signed an approval form. So
needless to say if I ever got sent down to the principles officer for acting out or being bad my parents
gave the principle permission to spank me. I believe that there is a difference between corporal
punishment and physical abuse. Corporal punishment is a method of disciplining a child or person for
acting out or for committing a crime, whereas physical abuse is causing nonaccidnetal physical injury
for no apparent reason. My parents raised me to know that if I did something bad I was bound to get a
butt whooping so I knew that if I did the same thing

Social And Cultural Events In The 20th And 21st Century
Education has been affected greatly by social and cultural events of the 20th and 21st centuries.
Because education follows the moves of society, the need for new skills in life and in the workplace
change and students can be career and college ready. This, however, has not always been the case. The
first of two main cultural and social events focused on are the events that led up to the Brown vs. the
Board of Education Supreme Court case, which resulted in the desegregation of schools. The second
are the effects that the Great Recession had on the education system. In the 1940s the Civil Rights
Movement began gaining strength and the country began moving slowly to desegregation. In 1947, in
the face of much opposition, Jackie Robinson became the first African American baseball player.
When he traveled to the south he was denied access into hotels, restaurants, and other venues because
of this race. Because Robinson was in the army the armed forces became desegregated in 1948 and
eventually led to the elimination of segregated schools (Schwartz, 2003). During this era African
American students were in separate but equal schools although many black schools suffered from poor
facilities and a lack of funding and other amenities that were provided at white schools. Black students
were often bussed great distances to attend school. In 1952, the National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) lawyers represented the case Brown vs. the Board of
education. This case dealt with the right of a black child to attend an all white school close to her
home instead of being bussed across town to the all black school. Initially, the ruling was in favor of
the Board of Education, but the adverse effects of separate but equal schooling on the black
community were clearly shown (Schwartz, 2003). African Americans were also held back by not
having the right to vote. A literacy exam was required to be passed in order to vote. Because of their
schooling restrictions, many African Americans were illiterate, which denied them of the right to vote.
A workshop for the United Nations drew several community members and teachers from the south
(Horton, Freire, 1990). One member who attended

Marie Curie and The Discobery of Radim and Plonium Essay
Marie Curie... She is best known for her discovery of radium and polonium and her work with
radioactivity. She encountered times of adversity in her career just because she was a woman, but she
met her challenges and overcame them. Marie Curie exceeded the barriers put on women in her time
to become one of the world s most famous scientists and used her knowledge to the benefit of
humanity.
Marie Curie was breaking barriers even when she was young. Marya Salomee Sklodowska was born
on November 7, 1867 in Russia controlled Poland. From an early age, Sklodowska showed a great
memory and exceptional intelligence. In Poland, not many institutions, including the University of
Warsaw, welcomed women. She wanted so badly to further pursue an ... Show more content on

With her experiments, she became the first woman in France to get a doctorate. Curie decided to
continue Henri Becquerel s experiments with X rays. She came up with the groundbreaking idea that
the rays were actually an atomic property. The paper she wrote reporting her discoveries had to be
presented through her professor because women weren t allowed to address the Academy of Sciences.
With this, she continued her work to find new elements. First, she found polonium, which is named
for her home country, and then she discovered radium. Pierre and Marie s greatest work was done in a
run down shed. They worked from 1898 to 1902. The Curies could have made a fortune if they
patented their process of extracting and refining radium, but they decided share their knowledge with
the world.
Marie Curie became the first woman to receive the Nobel Prize when the Curies shared the Nobel
Prize in Physics with Becquerel in 1903 for their work with radioactivity. In the 1900s, women still
had a relegated role in science. Marie Curie wasn t allowed to speak with her husband on stage at the
award ceremony and had to sit in the audience. Her mere presence was an affront to men. Some
members of the Nobel Prize committee even considered not including her in the prize at all, despite
the fact that she was largely responsible for the discovery.
She would later win a second Nobel Prize, this time in Chemistry, in 1911 for discovering the
elements radium and polonium and

Corner Of Bitter And Sweet
I am going to be reflecting on the book Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet in this essay. I
definitely enjoyed this book because of the story being told and the way it transitions chapter to
chapter between old Henry and young Henry. I also am myself very interested in the World War 2 era
in history and it is very interesting to see the war from a Chinese or Japanese Americans perspective
as opposed to an only American perspective. (On page 12) I don t like that Henry s parents make him
speak in only English, especially because Henry s parents don t (for the most part) know how to speak
English. I would understand if Henry s parents made him speak only English in public, but I think he
should be able to speak in Cantonese to his parents. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I also think the way Henry describes this is great because, in a way it might not be old news, it might
just be that people are not talking about because of fear or sadness because old news is also something
that people don t talk about. Henry woke to the sound of a police cruiser (Page 61) I don t like that this
young boy has to wake up the sound of police sirens. Usually, young boys wake up to toys or a pet to
play with but not Henry today. Even for a boy of Henry s age, it would be scary to wake up to sirens. I
would be scared today at the age of fifteen to wake up to sirens. I ll be here where am I going to go
(Page 164) I think it is very sad that Henry has to see his friend like this locked up in a cage like an
animal or criminal. A twelve year old boy should not have to deal with such an experience in his
young life. In closing, I think the book is awesome and I really enjoyed reading it. The dialogue was
writing amazingly and the characters traits and beliefs were on key. I also really enjoyed the
relationships between Henry and Keiko as well as the relationship between Henry and his

Essay On Formal Writing
13. When should you write like you talk and when is it best to be more formal?
There are two forms of communication: formal and casual. When writing, you need to know your
audience and select your words carefully. Formal writing is used in professional settings, college level
papers, book reports, writing to an authority s figure, or business to allow you to get your point across
without using offensive words or voice. This type of writing is eloquent with proper use of grammar
and phrases to add credibility to what you are saying. Formal writing should never use slang or

Although, as in formal writing, you cannot always use the same simple words. The use of big words
gives ones writing more punch and helps the reader to improve their vocabulary. It is very important
when using big words that they are used appropriately and do not change the content of what is being
written. A writer needs to use caution when picking big words. If the reader has trouble understanding
the words used then what the writer is trying to say gets lost. Some may also say that using big words
makes the writer look pompous. There is a very fine line between using the precise word, and using a
word that sounds important. It is more important to select the precise word to describe a situation, than
to settle on another word that just doesn t convey the same feeling. As Mark Twain once said, The
difference between the almost right word and the right word is really a large matter it s the difference
between the lightning bug and the lightning. 15. Why is the you viewpoint important and why should
you avoid using the you viewpoint manipulatively?
The you viewpoint helps the writer grab the reader s attention and bases its points on the reader s
interest. The writer needs to concentrate on what the reader needs versus what you want from the
reader. This type of writing strengthens the writer s persuasiveness. You need

Seven Sins Of Memory Research Paper
The memory part of our brain plays an important role in our everyday lives. There are a variety of
problems associated with memory, some are recognizable, while others are difficult to determine. We
experience some memory lapse during the day, for example, forgetting to buy milk at the grocery store
or the name of the person you just met. These memory lapses are known as The Seven Sins of
Memory, transience, absent minded, blocking, suggestibility, bias, persistence, and misattribution.
According to Murray, (2003), the first three are sins of omission that involve forgetting, and the
second four are sins of commission that involve distorted or unwanted recollections. Transience is the
decreasing accessibility of memory over time. Normal aging

Assess the Reasons for the Outbreak of Revolution in...
There are many reasons that could have been considered to be the cause if for the outbreak of
revolution in February 1917. The many effects of the war proved to lead towards the revolution
because it demonstrated how hopeless the Tsar and his government were in dealing with all the
problems Russia faced. Also the ministers within the government also had a part to play in the events
leading up to the revolution as many of them advised the Tsar to resign.
The war is an event that is widely considered to be a cause of the outbreak of the February 1917
revolution, despite in 1914 it appearing as though the Tsars power and authority had increased. This is
because after Russia losing the First World War, many problems had been worsened such ... Show

Therefore, morale in Russia was not a reason why there was an outbreak of revolution in 1917.
Nevertheless, the few military successes could not make up for the shocking casualty list revealed
later on in wartime. Also, when the economic and military problems arose they could have been
tolerable for the general public if they were encouraged by the people at the top such as the Tsar but
no leadership was shown. Though this was a problem in Russia the morale in Russia was not too bad
although people did begin to focus more on taking care of themselves because of the effects of the war
on everyday life. On the other hand, the fact that central leadership was not being provided to the
Russian public, criticisms began to be pointed directly at the Tsar. Nicholas failed in being commander
in chief of the Russian armed services. He did not encourage war effort and did not prove to be the
appropriate representative for the Russian people. In addition, the fact that he took on this important
role meant that he was responsible for the wars consequences and the survival of Tsardom depended
on military success. Due to the lack of success, Nicholas II was blamed and not his generals. This was
a reason for the revolution in February 1917 to happen as it appeared to the citizens of Russia that they
did not have a strong leader, also the tsarist system s claim to the loyalty of the Russian people had
been forfeited thus

The Issue Of Disciplinary Infractions For High School...
On Monday, February 29, 2016, I interviewed Dr. K. Wallace, District Administrator for Jefferson
County Public School District. The interview was on the topic of ethical fairness in education. Dr.
Wallace discussed the issue of disciplinary infractions for high school students. He pointed out that
bullying and acts of violence are becoming a major problem for administrators. According to Dr.
Wallace, administrators must learn how to strike a balance in respecting the rights of children and
eradicating acts of bullying and violence.
According to Dr. Wallace, two students at Jefferson County High School were scheduled a due process
hearing for bullying. He revealed that the two students had made threats on social media and brought
weapons to school. However, the two students alleged that they were the ones being bullied and only
brought the weapons to protect themselves from a gang of girls and their parents. The two young
ladies are academic scholars and have no prior disciplinary history.
Dr. Wallace maintained that there is a need to adopt common sense policies that adequately address
bullying and consequences for it. He contended that all stakeholders must be held accountable in order
to eliminate this issue. Dr. Wallace suggested that school district personnel receive professional
development on properly handling acts of violence and bullying. He also noted that school leaders
must provide their staff with the tools and resources to identify and address bullying. He

Introduction
The Smartphone market is emerging and growing. This is a well known fact. However, this report
primarily focuses upon what goes on behind the scenes in producing a Smartphone that is at par with
the customers needs. The Smartphone market moved from producing sets with an alphanumeric
keyboard to a qwerty keyboard, to a touch screen, to intelligent voice commands, to biometric
securities, etc. Nevertheless, the diversity in needs of the consumer, increasing demand levels, the
Smartphone industry hasn t ceased to grow.
The conventional product strategies which used to focus upon costs, differentiation, and customer and
technology orientations doesn t seem to fulfill the ever growing need of better technology. The
Smartphone market is more focused on innovation and product development rather than the
conventional product strategies.

Pursuing A Painting Class
As I met with my academic advisor last semester to speak about classes, I was told I still needed an art
credit to fulfill my General Education. As I looked through the list I saw classes such as Art History,
Intro to Visual Arts, and Painting. I wanted to take an art class that I would find interesting and make
me work hard. I chose to sign up for Painting. I thought to myself, I painted in high school a lot, I
have some background in it, maybe I will like it! In a way, I was right. I learned a lot from this class, I
faced challenges, discovered new things, and learned more about myself during this semester s
painting class. I believe painting to be a method of creative expression by allowing anyone to uniquely
express themselves with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After that I began blocking in piece by piece, starting with a gray color and filling in other colors after
that. This part of the process continued until everything was blocked in and the block ins would
decrease in size and vary in colors. I would continue observing and add different details as needed
until I reached a stopping point. This process went at different speeds for different paintings but was
always similar for each. I had many challenges this semester while painting. At first I struggled with
color mixing. It was hard for me to find the right pigments to mix in order to find the exact color that I
could visually see on the object. The first painting was a big trial for me and color mixing. I also
struggled with finding the exact shape and size of the object in the sketching phase. I found myself
redoing a lot of my sketching. As I got through these smaller struggles at the beginning of the
semester, I began coming across bigger and harder struggles to overcome. One of these struggles came
in the last set of paintings we did. I found these paintings to be the most difficult, as they should be. I
feel like I could never make my figure painting look as if it was standing at the right angle that I was
seeing it. It took me a long time to figure out how to position the arms and legs to get an angle that
was close enough for the good of the painting. Secondly, I struggled with the proportions and colors of

In the past females have achieved less well than boys at higher levels in the education system, then
during the 1990 , the girls over took boys at all levels in the education system. The percentage of
females in the UK achieving two or more A levels or equivalent has increased from 20% in 1990 to
42% in 2006. Over the same time period, the percentage of males achieving the same level increased
from 18% to 33%. On the other hand, there still continues to be a large difference in the choice of
subjects by males and females. Even with the national curriculum being restrictive in the lower levels,
meaning both male and females do the same subjects, when they get to a levels and degree level, both
male and females still tend to choose different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, its argued that the improvement of females in education could be the result of the decline of
males, therefore making the gap between gender differences not that significant.
Secondly, the interaction between teachers and male and female students. Sociologist Francis (2000)
argues that classrooms are still male dominated and that boys are disciplined more frequently and
harshly by teachers compared to girls. Therefore, it is seen that boys get more attention than girls as
they are disciplined more harshly than girls, leading to girls getting less attention than boys, also in
terms of ethnicity, boys from African Caribbean backgrounds are also more likely to be disciplined
than white British boys. This may result in boys feeling picked on in school which may result in
gender and ethnic differences in achievement.
On the other hand, many sociologists have argued the importance of external factors in influencing
gender differences in achievement. Feminism strives for equality in society for men and women and
has questioned the typical role of males and females in society and challenges the role of women
being the housewife. Feminists have had a great influence on improving girls self esteem and
aspirations. Sue Sharpe s

Research Paper On Homo Sapien Animals
Jordan Woltjer 8/28/2016 The Homo Sapien species has existed for 60 to 120 thousand years. Only
during the last ten thousand years have humans existed in civilizations, with a multitude of differing
forms that underwent development patterns often as a result of interaction with foreign societies.
Because humans have existed in a wide variety of structural contexts, it becomes exceedingly difficult
to derive universal human attributes that can be used to produce a theorem of human nature. The
difficulty lies in that the varying forms of human socialization and institutions profoundly influence
the value systems of the societal occupants. Thus, humans operate and think differently in different
societies. For example, in modern liberal market

Gender Stereotypes In A Cool Kid-Like Me
Children books today are enforcing the many gender stereotypes and roles that are prevalent in
society. Lack of female characters in books is sending children a message at young ages that females
occupy a role beneath men in the society. This is then causing a possible contribution to our young
girls feeling unimportant, and the boys privileged. Boys are also choosing not to pick up books that
don t gender related to themselves or focused on things they like. Boy children are less likely to pick
up a bright pink book with a female character on the front, whereas to girls will read everything. In
The Detective Dog by Julia Donaldson the main character is a brave female detective dog named Nell,
who helps out a male sidekick and teacher. One ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is also portrayed with short blonde hair, pants and tops, and neutral darker colored clothing, such
as navy blues, khaki, and pastel yellow. The book goes on to further explain all the things a cool kid
should be doing, and highlight the independence of the boy, whose parents didn t pay him much
attention. On the fifth page of the text, the young boy is troubled by his parent s lack of interest and
how they only knew him on the outside and not who he was on the inside. This a clear indicator of
how parents tend to neglect male children because they don t want them to appear fragile or emotional
like the stereotypes tend to deem on girl children. The boy who tells this story is so cool to the point
that he doesn t like to be hugged, as most boy children do not, however he lets his Grandma. Only
when speaking to his Grandmother, who allows the boy to be fragile and cares for his feelings, does he
confess the truth that his coolness is only a facade hiding his fears of not having a night light.
Eventually, the grandmother goes on vacation, and in her absence gives the boy a teddy bear as a
present. The parents of the young boy automatically say the boy is too old for that! He s a big boy
now!... He won t play with that (Wilhelm, 1990, p. 9) and when his mother cleans his room, she puts
the teddy bear on the highest shelf. In spite of the parents, the young boy strips the bear of what had a
deemed feminine ribbon, removes the bear from the top shelf when the mother exits his room and
takes the bear everywhere and anywhere he could, in secret, and spoke to the bear about his deepest
and darkest fears and told him all he felt. The book identified with a familiar topic in class, in how boy

Getting to Know Hiromi Uehara
She often wears a strange, (but seems to be her personal characteristic), hairstyle to get on stage. She
always has a cheeky smile, swinging her body freely while her fingers dance on the piano. She is
intelligent and mischievous with endless musical whimsy. She is the pianist, the composer that brings
all the surprise to us, along with her fiery rhythm and creative keyboard sound. Her name is Hiromi
Uehara.
She is born in Shizuoka, Japan, started learning by the age of six. In addition to classical techniques,
she also started to learn jazz techniques and participated in improvisation trainings. At the age of 12,
she started to perform on stage and by the age of 17, she met Chick Corea and got invited to play with
him in the next day concert.
In Hiromi s career, Hiromi has a lot of inspiration from all jazz musicians, such as Chick Corea and
Oscar Peterson. Here is a recording of Hiromi Uehara and Chick Corea duet on Hiromi s piece Old
Castle, by the river, in the middle of a forest (2007). In comparison of these two great jazz musicians,
Corea insists on his lyrical jazz style while Hiromi is punchier and more rhythmic. (Chick Hiromi,
2008). This combination allows Hiromi and Corea to present their strengths, surprise audiences with
their delicate musical ideas.

The Importance Of Romantic Literature
In conclusion of her famous Letter to the Women of England, on the Injustice of Mental Subordination
(1799), Mary Robinson listed in alphabetical order the names of over forty contemporary women
writers who by the prevalent injustice and literary subordination were not or only partially recognized
for their contributions to the British literary community of the romanticism era. The list contained the
names of well known and relatively obscure women writers, poets, novelists, essayists and dramatists,
including the likes of well known Mary Wollstonecraft, Ann Radcliffe, and the relatively unknown
author of Biography, letters, c. Mrs. Thickness . In her closing assertion, she stated that there are men
who affect, to think lightly of the literary productions of women: and yet no works of the present day
are so universally read as theirs . This assertion resonates with Stephen C. Brehrendt s position on the
fate and honor accorded to women writers, novelists, essayists, dramatists and particularly poets of the
romanticism era, and the need to rewrite and remap the concept of influence, and the structuralism
literary and cultural theory that tends to want to place women at the periphery of romantic poetry
rather than the center where they truly belong in his article the New Romanticism for Old: Displacing
Our Expectations and Our Models . In his article, he opined like Mary Robinson, that the activities
and literary works of British women authors were as influential as

Microsoft Office s Word Program
Bill Gates, a man with a net worth of $76.4 billion dollars, and the founder of the corporation
Microsoft revolutionized the way the modern economy works with his work on the computer.
Microsoft would develop software that would be used around the world by billions of people, making
Microsoft a cornerstone of the modern economy. However, this large control of the market would put
Microsoft as a monopoly with its network effect. The fact that this paper is written of Microsoft office
s word program is a testament to the impact of Bill Gates Microsoft. In fact, about 90% of all
computers run on a Microsoft operating system called Windows. About 80% of computers use the
Microsoft office suite, including word ,Microsoft is everywhere. Before Microsoft, Gates showed
great promise as he scored a 1590 out of 1600 on his SAT and went to Harvard in the fall of 1973.
There he met Steve Ballmer who later would take over Microsoft. Gates left Harvard to start his
company, Micro Soft, in 1976 with Ballmer. He later dropped the dash to just be Microsoft. One of his
first jobs was when IBM asked Microsoft to provide a BASIC interpreter for the IBM PC in 1980, the
grandfather of the modern PC. The IMB PC needed an operating system(OS), so Microsoft and Gates
licensed the operating system 86 DOS to IBM and later bought it out and changed the name to PC
DOS. This is the first time Microsoft (MS) would outflank a much larger company for its own gain.

Evaluation Of Attachment Theory For Children With...
Overview of attachment theory
Attachment theory shows an emotional bond that connects one person to another, in this essay, the
theory is explained as how it relates to children with developmental disabilities and their families
along with how it is practically applied. This theory was first explained by John Bowlby (1969) who
regarded it as the earliest bond needed for survival of the young children. He emphasizes on
caregiving relationships to reinforce positive behavior, it is dependent on the ability of the care giver
to correctly analyze behavious of the child and respond over time. With children with disabilities, it is
seen that they have varying challenges ranging from diagnostic conditions to medical disorders and

With different characteristics it is best to have a secure child. At the beginning Bowbly (1969) ties it to
a biological base origin and this has further given researchers to further study this parent child
relationship, he believes that the attachment between a child and the caregiver creates a lasting impact
over the entire lifetime of both parties. Attachment theory does not only focus on the relationship of
the parent to child, but looks at it a dependence on each other, it emphasizes on the emotional, social,
cognitive and behavioral components that ultimately reflects developmental changes over a long
period of time (Howe 2006). The main point of this theory is that if the primary caregiver is
dependable, it helps the child build a sense of security, because the child knows that the care giver is
reliable so the child is more open to explore the world. From the beginning at infancy, people around
influence how the child behaves, it is an indicator of how other future relationships the child
encounters will grow. It is said that in the first year, the most important development is the creation of
an attachment bond between a mother and the infant (McConnell Moss, 2011). It is at this stage that
the mother responds to the infants actions like crying or ache, if the attachment figure in this case
maybe the mother, acts swiftly and promptly, the child feels safe and protected but if the caregiver
does not respond appropriately, then the

The Causes And Effects Of The Naxal Movement In India
Asia has been known to be a continent that has been colonized by many Western countries. Asia
has been through many experiences following the colonization of those Western countries. These
experiences both include the good and the bad side of being colonized, namely the many
different influences like cultures, ideologies, and many other things shared to us by the Western
people, but the bad side of being colonized will not be forgotten. Asia has experienced a lot of
violence and undergone being oppressed by the Western people, but violence in Asia isn t only
done by the colonizers and at times, the people in the continent and countries hurt and do

Indian state s perception of the causes of the Naxal movement. The Naxalites control territory
throughout Bihar, Jharkhand and Andhra Pradesh states and claim to be supported by the poorest
of the rural population, especially the Adivasis. The Naxalites have frequently targeted tribal,
police and government workers in what they say is a fight for improved land rights and more

Geoffrey Chaucer s Accomplishments

In the fourteenth century, England had little literary reputation and English was not considered a
literary language. Critic Jeffrey Helterman explains, It would have been surprising in the fourteenth
century for anyone to think of writing in his native tongue, and this was particularly true for Chaucer s
role models. The first impulse for a medieval writer who was writing something he wanted
remembered was to write it in Latin. Chaucer chose to write his major work in English. (Chaucer,
Geoffrey. ) If Chaucer had not believed in the power and beauty of the English language, fellow
Englishman William Shakespeare would not have made brilliant plays written in blank verse English.
The Canterbury Tales had far reaching impact. The monopoly on artificial, formal writing was
challenged. A new style emerged with more personal, intimate outlook. This realistic writing
permeated throughout all modern literature. ( Chaucer ) Chaucer was one of the first writers to write
his work in English, instead of French or Latin. He established the English language as a viable means
for producing literature. As a result of the popularity of his work, the dialect of London became the
accepted standard form of the English language for

There are two methods used to measure level of liquid; direct methods and indirect methods. Direct
methods of level measurement measures the height above a zero point by different methods. By
definition, direct methods for level measurement are mainly used where level changes are small and
slow such as in sump tanks and bulk storage tanks, this method actual level is monitored. It is simple
to use and reliable and not costly. These methods are safe because they are suitable to hazardous areas.
So they are highly recommended in oil and gas level measurement. There are four types of direct level
measurement devices. The 1st is the Dipstick and Dip Rods: Is a method that has been around for
hundreds of years. Our ancestors used to insert a long pole into a river or canal then pull it out and the
wetted part was used to determine the depth. Today they do the same thing but with a long metal rod
that has been dipped into a vessel. The rod is stopped either at the top of the vessel by a protruding
flange on the rod, or at the bottom of the vessel when the tip of the rod reaches the bottom. When the
rod is withdrawn, the wet/dry interface can be clearly seen and the level determined from a scale on
the rod (Image 2). The 2nd is Weighted Gauge Tape: similar to the dipstick the weighted gauge tape is
used in deep vessels and tanks where the dipstick cannot reach (Image 3). The 3rd is Gauge Glasses:

Animal Farm Character Analysis
On a cloudy Wednesday afternoon, I am sitting at the skate park on the bench. I was watching kids
skate around then I suddenly turn my attention on four boys. Three of which are picking on a boy who
is smaller than them because he didn t know the skills nor tricks that they knew. I finally couldn t
stand hearing them pick on him anymore, so I marched over to where they were standing pulled the
boy away from the situation and talked to him about sticking up for himself during anytime that
something like that may occur. I told him that he shouldn t let people walk all over him. In the story
Animal Farm by George Orwell the animals have accomplished a rebellion against the humans to run
them out of the farm. What caused the rebellion was mistreatment against the animals. Napoleon the

Similarities Between College And University
The terms college and university originally had very similar meanings. Only with the passing of
centuries did university come to signify an educational institution composed of more than one college.
The word college means literally union formed by law, or a group of people associated in some
common function. The ancient Roman craft guilds were called collegia. The closest parallel today is
the corporation, a business organization chartered by a government.
 During the Middle Ages students at the universities of Paris, Oxford, and Cambridge found it
convenient to rent houses and share expenses instead of living in private apartments. By the 13th
century these houses of scholars were becoming legally recognized corporate institutions. ... Show

When used in its modern sense as a place for advanced learning, it usually required the addition of

chartered school of teachers and students was studium generale, meaning a place of study open to
students from all parts. The universitas was a group of teachers or students (or perhaps both) within
the studium. A studium was quite similar to a guild in both origin and composition. The beginners
were essentially apprentices, called bachelors, while the teachers were the masters.
 The studium probably emerged when the bishop of a diocese gave a teacher permission to operate a
school other than the local cathedral or monastery school. It is likely that a license to teach was
granted to a master after a formal examination. The studium itself became a school that granted a

Effective Supervisor

One of the most significant aspects that form a successful business is to have effective Supervisors.
These are the people running your company and making sure everything runs smoothly and

importantly, Supervisors are accountable for the work of others. Whether they are physically doing the
work or not, it reflects back on them. That is a great deal of responsibility.

Supervisors should be continuously learning how to better themselves and ways to become
indispensable to the company they work for. Effective employees often learn from example and if you
have ineffective Supervisors, expect unproductive staff. Supervisors are the people in the office you

Value Proposition Of Fedex
Logistics services in the supply chain can be considered as a service offering, with numerous logistics
companies competing to offer comparable services to many of the same consumers. As consumers
hunt for potential providers in this extremely competitive marketplace, logistics service suppliers
should discover approaches to distinguish themselves and their service offerings so as to help them
compete. One established method for companies to differentiate themselves is by building strong
brands. For instance, FedEx has evidently distinguished itself through successful brand management.
The brand value to consumers is usually signify as consumer based equity which happens when
consumers possess a high level of familiarity and awareness with the brand and retains some strong,
constructive and inimitable brand associations in memory (Davis, 2003). Brand awareness is referred

consumers. Consumers who treasure dependable overnight package delivery are liable to name FedEx

they do not possess levels of brand equity equivalent to FedEx because their brands are not as

Victorianism is an era which is difficult to understand as it is spread over several periods giving rise to
many events. On one hand it is considered as an era of power and paradox while on the other hand this

before Great War ended, around four years ago *1919*. My dad needed new work, and he found a
great job as a factory worker. He had his eye on this job ever since the previous holder got recruited. It
is better up here than in the south with the Jim Crow law that segregated our schools. My brother got
recruited to the Harlem Hellfighters. He fought the Central powers, and spent 191 days in front line
trenches. For the great bravery his officers showed they where the first American to be awarded the

Tetanus Vaccine Research
Over 17 million and 60 million people died in World War 1 and World War 2, respectively making
them the two of the most deadly conflicts in modern history. Though these deaths must not be
overlooked, the wars expedited many medical advances and technologies that saved many lives during
and after the wars. The world saw many discoveries and innovations that would shape the scientific
community forever. Without the two wars, access to blood products and blood transfusions, vaccines,
and antibiotics would not exist as they are today.
Every three seconds someone needs blood whether it is for a victim of a car crash or a child battling
leukemia. Even though the practice saves millions of lives each year, it owes its start to war. World

If it were not for vaccines, we would see increased cases for tetanus, influenza and botulism among
other diseases. The success of the tetanus vaccine in the army allowed for the success of the vaccine in
the general populace. Troops were administered the tetanus vaccine at the beginning of the war. Due
to its success, the government implemented vaccine programs across the country. During the 1920 s
and 1930 s between 26 and 55 people died from tetanus every year. After vaccine programs started in
the 1940 s, rates rapidly declined. Between 2000 and 2013, there were only 42 reported cases of
tetanus in Canada. More than half of those cases were in individuals over 60, where they might not
have gotten a booster shot, and no cases occurred in babies, which is the age when inoculation begins.
When war broke out for the second time, the fear of another influenza outbreak was at the forefront of
people s minds. Due to this, The US government put together vaccine development groups. These
groups created America s first flu vaccine and the FDA approved it in less than two years. Scientists
later discovered that they needed to modify the vaccine every year to match the strains of the virus
that were circulating at that time and the modifications are still done every year. The aforementioned
vaccine development programs created other vaccines for military use. The Allies created the
botulinum toxoid because they got false intelligence that the Axis powers had weaponized a
neurotoxin produced by Clostridium botulinum. The toxin is extremely potent and injecting two
billionths of a gram, of its most powerful strain could kill a full grown adult. During the war, Canada
produced over 25,000 doses of the toxoid while the United States produced over 1 million units.
Natural occurring botulinum outbreaks are rare, but governments have always feared the use of the
toxin as a biological weapon. In 1991, Iraq claimed

What is 1080?
1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) is a poisonous chemical. Used in many areas of New Zealand, yet it
causes a devastating amount of damage harms many areas of New Zealand.
What is 1080 used for
1080 is a poison used to protect the threats to native animals and plants from introduced species. The
pest control poison is effective in killing these introduced species which kill our native animals/plants
especially rats, stoats and possums.
Mainly found in vegetation lands, it prevents pests from eating healthy crops and native animals.
However, 1080 is a hazard to children, dogs, and many other animals. This potential hazard can spread
to bodies of water and can be present in a specific areas for an extravagant amount of time. This
danger makes 1080 an unethical choice for controlling pests.
Recently, in 2015, a nationwide scare was put on Fonterra Baby Formula. An anonymous letter sent to
major news corporations (residing in New Zealand) threatened the safety of the baby formula.
Included was baby formula laced with 1080 hazardous pest control poison as well as a threat to lace

The Raven Literary Devices
There are many types of literary devices and techniques used in the poem called The Raven by Edgar
Allan Poe. Most of the techniques include alliteration, repetition, internal rhyme, onomatopoeia, and
end rhymes. The Raven was a poem about a person who lost their loved one who he called Lenore ,
then finding a raven and communicating to it about his feelings. Throughout the poem, a certain
rhyme pattern is found. The rhyme pattern consist of the second line of the stanza rhyming with the
fourth, fifth, and sixth line of the stanza. In my opinion, I think that is a very effective way for me to
read it because it made it more interesting and easier to read. The literary devices in the poem helped
the poem become more organized and enjoyable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here, it s easier to spot which initial letter is repeating. In this case, it s the letter F and the word
uttered. In the twelfth stanza, there is another example of alliteration found in the fourth line, which is
Followed fast and followed faster till his songs one burden bore There is also repetition in this line
since the word followed is used more than once in one line. I noticed that the letter F is used a lot for
alliteration and repetition in this poem. The fourth line in the next stanza also have repetition. Fancy
unto fancy, thinking what this ominous bird of yore The word fancy is used repeatedly in this line.
According to The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe, the most used literary device or literary technique that I
have found throughout the poem was alliteration, repetition, internal rhymes, and end rhymes. Based
on what I read, there will be at least one end rhyme in each stanza. All of the second lines, fourth lines,
fifth lines, and sixth lines rhyme together. There will occasionally be internal rhymes found in the first
lines of almost each stanza. Repetition is mostly found in the fourth lines of almost all of the stanzas
and Alliteration is mostly found in the third

(June 2009) |
The English language was first introduced to the Americas by British colonization, beginning in 1607
in Jamestown, Virginia. Similarly, the language spread to numerous other parts of the world as a result
of British trade and colonization elsewhere and the spread of the former British Empire, which, by
1921, held sway over a population of 470 570 million people, approximately a quarter of the world s
population at that time.
Over the past 400 years the form of the language used in the Americas especially in the United ...

However, such a sentence would most likely be recast as the team members take their seats.[15]
Despite exceptions such as usage in The New York Times, the names of sports teams are usually
treated as plurals even if the form of the name is singular.[16]
The difference occurs for all nouns of multitude, both general terms such as team and company and
proper nouns (for example where a place name is used to refer to a sports team). For instance,
BrE: The Clash are a well known band; AmE: The Clash is a well known band.
BrE: Spain are the champions; AmE: Spain is the champion.
Proper nouns that are plural in form take a plural verb in both AmE and BrE; for example, The Beatles
are a well known band; The Saints are the champions, with one major exception: largely for historical
reasons, in American English, the United States is is almost universal. This is due to the growth in
federal control over state governments following the American Civil War (cf. the inclusion of the term
indivisible in the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States flag); before this, the construction the
United States are was more common.[17]

The Poetry Of Sara Teasdale s Love Poetry
Sara Teasdale, an extraordinarily sensitive and almost reclusive woman, had a lifelong struggle with
her disparate personalities and ever changing beliefs which led her to write extremely passionate
poetry about her venture to find love and the hardships she faced along the way. To say the least, Sara
Teasdale had an extremely difficult life full of ups and downs. She went from being a puritan young
woman from St. Louis, Missouri to a successful but uneasy poet in New York City to a depressed and
disillusioned person who ended up killing themselves in 1933. She constantly dreamed of and wrote
poetry about a love that would set her free from all of her problems. Her feminine love poetry
included philosophical depth and self examination and eventually made her a fortunate woman,
winning her the first Columbia Poetry Prize, later renamed the Pulitzer Prize, in 1918 (Walker).
Sara Teasdale was raised sheltered, pampered, educated in private schools, and led to believe that she
was frail, chronically ill, and in constant need of protective care. As she grew up, she took a few trips
to New York and made new friends with very different backgrounds from her. She dreaded becoming
an old maid. She initiated several romances and began to distance herself from the oppressiveness of
her St. Louis Baptist background and gain a measure of mature self assurance. She toyed with
countless men for a few years, but ended up married to Ernst Filsinger, a choice of middle class
propriety and

Personality Is A Definition Of Personality
Personality is a word that is known to come from the Latin word persona which is defined as the mask
. The definition of personality is quite eclectic as there are many opinions on what a personality is and
what it consists of. ...the most adequate conceptualisation of a person s behaviour in all its detail
(McClelland, 1951, p.69) is a historical definition of personality. More narrowly, personality is
described as the amalgamation of qualities or characteristics and the behavioural attitudes that form an
individual s distinctive character. There has been much debate as to whether one s personality can
change throughout their lifetime or if it s set in plaster after a specific age. Longitudinal studies were
undertaken on the aspects of the five factor model in an attempt to come to a conclusion about
whether or not one s personality can change. Changes in personality may occur due to certain life
experiences which can leave indents in one s personality, forcing it to change negatively or positively
for a temporary or permanent amount of time in order to adapt to the environment. John Bowlby
suggests the attachment theory is necessary in early life in order to shape an individual s personality.
Early life experiences as well as an individual s personality are primarily influenced by one s parents
until they re mature enough to form their own identity. There are also opposing views on personality
as numerous amounts of people believe it doesn t change after a certain age.

It appears that Shakespeare is justifying Macbeth s ruthless ambition and want to maintain power,
which puts Macbeth into darker depths by having Banquo and Fleance murdered, by his lack of an
heir. Similarly, the audience is provided by Snowball as the rival to Napoleon s absolute power in his
introduction to the character in Chapter 2. Orwell tells the reader he was a more vivacious pig than
Napoleon , setting him up immediately in competition His description goes on to describe him as
quicker in speech and more inventive . This is proven when he emerges later in Chapter 4 as the brave
hero of the Battle of the Cowshed after which we see him awarded with the military decoration of
Animal Hero First Class while the reader realizes Napoleon seems to be conspicuous in his absence.
Moreover, Snowball invents plans for the windmill and Orwell outlines all his creative ideas in his
committees and therefore Napoleon clearly makes plans to expel him from the farm. The key
difference between Shakespeare and Orwell s presentations is that we witness Macbeth s thought
processes and plans while Orwell keeps the reader in the dark yet offers them clues that Napoleon is
not to be trusted. It comes as no surprise to the reader in Chapter 5 when Napoleon unleashes his
personally educated dogs, who represent Stalin s secret police, on Snowball. Both leaders maintain
power by eradicating any competition.

  • 2. Cons Of Political Campaign Financing Political Campaign Financing Political campaign financing refers to all finances that have been raised and expended in order to promote political candidates, parties, and initiatives. According to a survey conducted in November 2018, when questioned Do you know what political campaign financing is? approximately 50% of respondents answered yes, 27% answered no and 23% answered that they had heard of it. The same survey relayed that only 4% of participants had positive views, 35% had negative views and the remaining 61% were unsure of their views on campaign financing. Yet when asked the question Regarding the role of money in American political campaigns, what level of influence do you think money has? 96% of respondents said too much, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The FECA, however, opened the way for a major financing loophole: soft money. Soft money includes contributions and expenses that are technically not associated with individual candidates. Examples of this would be issue advertising as well as get out the vote initiatives. Although soft money never directly reaches campaigns, the activities that it sponsors definitively boosts individual candidates in the polls and allows donors to remain unnoticed. The court case Buckley v. Valeo (1976) resolved the question: Did the limits placed on electoral expenditures by the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971, and related provisions of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954, violate the First Amendment s freedom of speech and association clauses? (Buckley v. Valeo). This question first came into play following the infamous Watergate scandal. Congress wanted to end corruption in political campaigns, particularly the financial contributions. Congress law created limits on the amount of money that an individual could contribute to a campaign. It was required the campaign to report contributions above a certain amount of money. This led to the creation of the Federal Election Commission, or the FEC, a governmental agency designed to enforce this statute. This influential case concluded that restrictions on individual contributions did not violate the First Amendment as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. British Separation Of Sudan Research Paper The British came over to take control of Sudan in 1898, because they wanted the Suez Canal that was constructed in 1869 to be a part of the route that would help be a flourishing portion to India and to conserve their interests in Egypt. Sudan was a community ruled by the Anglo Egyptian Condominium, however, Egypt in reality had very scarce power over Sudan, because Egypt ruled as if it was alongside under the control of the British. The British did not have enough power to rule the entire country of Sudan while they attempted to have power over half of the world, so they had to split it up which is called the divide and rule policy. The separating of provinces slowed down the progression in their social and economical lives in Southern Sudan. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay on The Cosmological Argument for the Existence of God The Cosmological Argument attempts to prove that God exists by showing that there cannot be an infinite number of regressions of causes to things that exist. It states that there must be a final uncaused cause of all things. This uncaused cause is asserted to be God. Arguments like this are thought up to recognize why we and the universe exist. The Cosmological Argument takes several forms but is basically represented below. Cosmological Argument Things exist It is possible for those things not to exist Whatever has the possibility of non existence, yet exists, has been caused to exist. Something cannot bring itself into existence because it would have had to exist to do ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Weaknesses of the argument One of the weaknesses of the argument is that if all things need a cause to exist, then God Himself must also, by definition, need a cause to exist. But this only pushes causation back and implies that there must be an infinite number of causes, which cannot be. This is contradictory. Also, by definition, God is uncaused. There are two forms of the cosmological argument. One is the Kalam argument: Like all cosmological arguments, the kalam cosmological argument is an argument from the existence of the world or universe to the existence of God. The existence of the universe, such arguments claim, stands in need of explanation. The only adequate explanation, the arguments suggest, is that God created it. What distinguishes the kalam cosmological argument from other forms of cosmological argument is that it rests on the idea that the universe has a beginning in time. Modal forms of the cosmological argument are consistent with the universe having an infinite past. With the kalam cosmological argument, however, it is precisely because the universe is thought to have a beginning in time that the existence of the universe is thought to stand in need of explanation. The argument has the following structure: (1) Everything that has a beginning of its existence has a cause ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Virtue Ethics Research Paper Virtue ethics contends that to live ethically is to live virtuously, and conversely, to live virtuously is to live ethically. This roots in Nichomachean Ethics and Aristotelian philosophy that to cultivate a happy life over time, one must make a habit of excellence as it does not come from singular acts. Vaughn presents this as, what should I be? A virtue ethicist is not concerned, or defined by acts alone, but the virtues that motivate them such as compassion, honesty, and loyalty. This also relates to a whole being, again harkening back to Aristotle, rather than just a rule or principle being followed as a matter of rightness. To reference on the website http://www.pursuit of happiness.org/, Aristotle said that, for the same reason we cannot say that children are happy, any more than we can say an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His example: the right action is performed by a virtuous person and a virtuous person performs the right action can be likened to the question of which came first, the chicken or the egg? To end the debate, additional ethical models must be applied and this leads away from pure virtue ethics. Certainly, all people should want to do what is right and live a life of happiness, but there comes a point where one is likely to have to apply something more than virtue to a situation (i.e. the examples at the end of the chapter where the decision is more between two or virtues than what is simply right or wrong). This is where Aristotle has given additional, well thought guidance in applying Golden Means, the balance between two extremes. And not just the most extreme in the strictest definitions, but rather as applied to everyone given their situation, their life, their decisions and the basis for them as well as the virtue in question. To live the sum of a happy life, all things should be considered with this in mind, aka all things in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Utopia In John Foster s Story The Machine Stops In Fosters story The Machine Stops he displays two points of view into the utopian society ruled by the machine, which prove Rothstein s Idea that one man s utopia is another man s dystopia. The first character in his story, Vashti, Is content with her life and would consider society close to a utopia. The second character, Kuno, Vashti s son, is not as pleased with his situation. The clashing opinions give the reader a lot to think about when considering Rothstein s idea. Vashti, the woman at the beginning of the story, lives out her days as many other people of this time do, sitting alone in an arm chair in the middle of their room. Everything is brought to her at a moment s notice, which makes moving from her spot a seemingly pointless thing to do. For her, everything is good enough . When she refers to the way the machine cannot display the emotions of another, while talking with her son, she disregards the imperfection saying that the idea this communication is an idea that was good enough for all practical purposes. • 10. Spanking A Child Essay The textbook defines physical child abuse as, any act that results in a nonaccidental physical injury by a person who has care, custody, or control of a child (p.157). Many people disagree on what the term child abuse means. Yelling at a child or spanking a child is not considered child abuse based on this definition. However it is possible that spanking a child can cause injury, but most medical and legal authorities will not consider it child abuse unless the force is sufficient to leave marks. A number of parents spank their children in order to teach them discipline when they do not listen or act out, but because of the controversial question of whether or not spanking is child abuse most parents have sought other forms of discipline. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Committee on the Rights of the Child in the General Comment No. 8 defines corporal punishment as, any punishment in which physical force is used and intended to cause some degree of pain or discomfort, however light. Most involves hitting ( smacking , slapping , spanking ) children, with the hand or with an implement (unicef website). Corporal punishment has been used in schools as a method of discipline and as a form of punishment for committing a crime. Some people will say that corporal punishment is no different from physical abuse, because your intending to cause some degree of pain or discomfort. However from my personal experience I went to an elementary school where they were allowed to spank the children as long as the child s parents had signed an approval form. So needless to say if I ever got sent down to the principles officer for acting out or being bad my parents gave the principle permission to spank me. I believe that there is a difference between corporal punishment and physical abuse. Corporal punishment is a method of disciplining a child or person for acting out or for committing a crime, whereas physical abuse is causing nonaccidnetal physical injury for no apparent reason. • 11. Social And Cultural Events In The 20th And 21st Century Education has been affected greatly by social and cultural events of the 20th and 21st centuries. Because education follows the moves of society, the need for new skills in life and in the workplace change and students can be career and college ready. This, however, has not always been the case. The first of two main cultural and social events focused on are the events that led up to the Brown vs. the Board of Education Supreme Court case, which resulted in the desegregation of schools. The second are the effects that the Great Recession had on the education system. In the 1940s the Civil Rights Movement began gaining strength and the country began moving slowly to desegregation. In 1947, in the face of much opposition, Jackie Robinson became the first African American baseball player. When he traveled to the south he was denied access into hotels, restaurants, and other venues because of this race. Because Robinson was in the army the armed forces became desegregated in 1948 and eventually led to the elimination of segregated schools (Schwartz, 2003). During this era African American students were in separate but equal schools although many black schools suffered from poor facilities and a lack of funding and other amenities that were provided at white schools. Black students were often bussed great distances to attend school. In 1952, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) lawyers represented the case Brown vs. the Board of education. This case dealt with the right of a black child to attend an all white school close to her home instead of being bussed across town to the all black school. Initially, the ruling was in favor of the Board of Education, but the adverse effects of separate but equal schooling on the black community were clearly shown (Schwartz, 2003). African Americans were also held back by not having the right to vote. A literacy exam was required to be passed in order to vote. Because of their schooling restrictions, many African Americans were illiterate, which denied them of the right to vote. A workshop for the United Nations drew several community members and teachers from the south (Horton, Freire, 1990). One member who attended ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Marie Curie and The Discobery of Radim and Plonium Essay Marie Curie... She is best known for her discovery of radium and polonium and her work with radioactivity. She encountered times of adversity in her career just because she was a woman, but she met her challenges and overcame them. Marie Curie exceeded the barriers put on women in her time to become one of the world s most famous scientists and used her knowledge to the benefit of humanity. Marie Curie was breaking barriers even when she was young. Marya Salomee Sklodowska was born on November 7, 1867 in Russia controlled Poland. From an early age, Sklodowska showed a great memory and exceptional intelligence. In Poland, not many institutions, including the University of Warsaw, welcomed women. She wanted so badly to further pursue an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With her experiments, she became the first woman in France to get a doctorate. Curie decided to continue Henri Becquerel s experiments with X rays. She came up with the groundbreaking idea that the rays were actually an atomic property. The paper she wrote reporting her discoveries had to be presented through her professor because women weren t allowed to address the Academy of Sciences. With this, she continued her work to find new elements. First, she found polonium, which is named for her home country, and then she discovered radium. Pierre and Marie s greatest work was done in a run down shed. They worked from 1898 to 1902. The Curies could have made a fortune if they patented their process of extracting and refining radium, but they decided share their knowledge with the world. Marie Curie became the first woman to receive the Nobel Prize when the Curies shared the Nobel Prize in Physics with Becquerel in 1903 for their work with radioactivity. In the 1900s, women still had a relegated role in science. Marie Curie wasn t allowed to speak with her husband on stage at the award ceremony and had to sit in the audience. Her mere presence was an affront to men. Some members of the Nobel Prize committee even considered not including her in the prize at all, despite the fact that she was largely responsible for the discovery. • 13. Corner Of Bitter And Sweet I am going to be reflecting on the book Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet in this essay. I definitely enjoyed this book because of the story being told and the way it transitions chapter to chapter between old Henry and young Henry. I also am myself very interested in the World War 2 era in history and it is very interesting to see the war from a Chinese or Japanese Americans perspective as opposed to an only American perspective. (On page 12) I don t like that Henry s parents make him speak in only English, especially because Henry s parents don t (for the most part) know how to speak English. Usually, young boys wake up to toys or a pet to play with but not Henry today. Even for a boy of Henry s age, it would be scary to wake up to sirens. I would be scared today at the age of fifteen to wake up to sirens. I ll be here where am I going to go (Page 164) I think it is very sad that Henry has to see his friend like this locked up in a cage like an animal or criminal. A twelve year old boy should not have to deal with such an experience in his young life. In closing, I think the book is awesome and I really enjoyed reading it. The dialogue was writing amazingly and the characters traits and beliefs were on key. • 15. Essay On Formal Writing 13. When should you write like you talk and when is it best to be more formal? There are two forms of communication: formal and casual. When writing, you need to know your audience and select your words carefully. Formal writing is used in professional settings, college level papers, book reports, writing to an authority s figure, or business to allow you to get your point across without using offensive words or voice. This type of writing is eloquent with proper use of grammar and phrases to add credibility to what you are saying. Formal writing should never use slang or abbreviated words. Although, as in formal writing, you cannot always use the same simple words. The use of big words gives ones writing more punch and helps the reader to improve their vocabulary. It is very important when using big words that they are used appropriately and do not change the content of what is being written. A writer needs to use caution when picking big words. If the reader has trouble understanding the words used then what the writer is trying to say gets lost. Some may also say that using big words makes the writer look pompous. There is a very fine line between using the precise word, and using a word that sounds important. It is more important to select the precise word to describe a situation, than to settle on another word that just doesn t convey the same feeling. As Mark Twain once said, The difference between the almost right word and the right word is really a large matter it s the difference between the lightning bug and the lightning. 15. Why is the you viewpoint important and why should you avoid using the you viewpoint manipulatively? The you viewpoint helps the writer grab the reader s attention and bases its points on the reader s interest. The writer needs to concentrate on what the reader needs versus what you want from the reader. This type of writing strengthens the writer s persuasiveness. You need ... There are a variety of problems associated with memory, some are recognizable, while others are difficult to determine. We experience some memory lapse during the day, for example, forgetting to buy milk at the grocery store or the name of the person you just met. These memory lapses are known as The Seven Sins of Memory, transience, absent minded, blocking, suggestibility, bias, persistence, and misattribution. According to Murray, (2003), the first three are sins of omission that involve forgetting, and the second four are sins of commission that involve distorted or unwanted recollections. The many effects of the war proved to lead towards the revolution because it demonstrated how hopeless the Tsar and his government were in dealing with all the problems Russia faced. Also the ministers within the government also had a part to play in the events leading up to the revolution as many of them advised the Tsar to resign. The war is an event that is widely considered to be a cause of the outbreak of the February 1917 revolution, despite in 1914 it appearing as though the Tsars power and authority had increased. Therefore, morale in Russia was not a reason why there was an outbreak of revolution in 1917. Nevertheless, the few military successes could not make up for the shocking casualty list revealed later on in wartime. Also, when the economic and military problems arose they could have been tolerable for the general public if they were encouraged by the people at the top such as the Tsar but no leadership was shown. Though this was a problem in Russia the morale in Russia was not too bad although people did begin to focus more on taking care of themselves because of the effects of the war on everyday life. On the other hand, the fact that central leadership was not being provided to the Russian public, criticisms began to be pointed directly at the Tsar. Nicholas failed in being commander in chief of the Russian armed services. He did not encourage war effort and did not prove to be the appropriate representative for the Russian people. In addition, the fact that he took on this important role meant that he was responsible for the wars consequences and the survival of Tsardom depended on military success. Due to the lack of success, Nicholas II was blamed and not his generals. This was a reason for the revolution in February 1917 to happen as it appeared to the citizens of Russia that they did not have a strong leader, also the tsarist system s claim to the loyalty of the Russian people had been forfeited thus ... The interview was on the topic of ethical fairness in education. Dr. Wallace discussed the issue of disciplinary infractions for high school students. He pointed out that bullying and acts of violence are becoming a major problem for administrators. According to Dr. Wallace, administrators must learn how to strike a balance in respecting the rights of children and eradicating acts of bullying and violence. According to Dr. Wallace, two students at Jefferson County High School were scheduled a due process hearing for bullying. He revealed that the two students had made threats on social media and brought weapons to school. However, the two students alleged that they were the ones being bullied and only brought the weapons to protect themselves from a gang of girls and their parents. The two young ladies are academic scholars and have no prior disciplinary history. Dr. Wallace maintained that there is a need to adopt common sense policies that adequately address bullying and consequences for it. With different characteristics it is best to have a secure child. At the beginning Bowbly (1969) ties it to a biological base origin and this has further given researchers to further study this parent child relationship, he believes that the attachment between a child and the caregiver creates a lasting impact over the entire lifetime of both parties. Attachment theory does not only focus on the relationship of the parent to child, but looks at it a dependence on each other, it emphasizes on the emotional, social, cognitive and behavioral components that ultimately reflects developmental changes over a long period of time (Howe 2006). The main point of this theory is that if the primary caregiver is dependable, it helps the child build a sense of security, because the child knows that the care giver is reliable so the child is more open to explore the world. From the beginning at infancy, people around influence how the child behaves, it is an indicator of how other future relationships the child encounters will grow. It is said that in the first year, the most important development is the creation of an attachment bond between a mother and the infant (McConnell Moss, 2011). The closest parallel today is the corporation, a business organization chartered by a government.  During the Middle Ages students at the universities of Paris, Oxford, and Cambridge found it convenient to rent houses and share expenses instead of living in private apartments. The universitas was a group of teachers or students (or perhaps both) within the studium. A studium was quite similar to a guild in both origin and composition. The beginners were essentially apprentices, called bachelors, while the teachers were the masters.  The studium probably emerged when the bishop of a diocese gave a teacher permission to operate a school other than the local cathedral or monastery school. The success of the tetanus vaccine in the army allowed for the success of the vaccine in the general populace. Troops were administered the tetanus vaccine at the beginning of the war. Due to its success, the government implemented vaccine programs across the country. During the 1920 s and 1930 s between 26 and 55 people died from tetanus every year. After vaccine programs started in the 1940 s, rates rapidly declined. Between 2000 and 2013, there were only 42 reported cases of tetanus in Canada. More than half of those cases were in individuals over 60, where they might not have gotten a booster shot, and no cases occurred in babies, which is the age when inoculation begins. When war broke out for the second time, the fear of another influenza outbreak was at the forefront of people s minds. Due to this, The US government put together vaccine development groups. These groups created America s first flu vaccine and the FDA approved it in less than two years. Scientists later discovered that they needed to modify the vaccine every year to match the strains of the virus that were circulating at that time and the modifications are still done every year. The Poetry Of Sara Teasdale s Love Poetry Sara Teasdale, an extraordinarily sensitive and almost reclusive woman, had a lifelong struggle with her disparate personalities and ever changing beliefs which led her to write extremely passionate poetry about her venture to find love and the hardships she faced along the way. To say the least, Sara Teasdale had an extremely difficult life full of ups and downs. She went from being a puritan young woman from St. Louis, Missouri to a successful but uneasy poet in New York City to a depressed and disillusioned person who ended up killing themselves in 1933. She constantly dreamed of and wrote poetry about a love that would set her free from all of her problems. Her feminine love poetry included philosophical depth and self examination and eventually made her a fortunate woman, winning her the first Columbia Poetry Prize, later renamed the Pulitzer Prize, in 1918 (Walker). Sara Teasdale was raised sheltered, pampered, educated in private schools, and led to believe that she was frail, chronically ill, and in constant need of protective care. As she grew up, she took a few trips to New York and made new friends with very different backgrounds from her. She dreaded becoming an old maid. She initiated several romances and began to distance herself from the oppressiveness of her St. Louis Baptist background and gain a measure of mature self assurance. She toyed with countless men for a few years, but ended up married to Ernst Filsinger, a choice of middle class propriety and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

More narrowly, personality is described as the amalgamation of qualities or characteristics and the behavioural attitudes that form an individual s distinctive character. There has been much debate as to whether one s personality can change throughout their lifetime or if it s set in plaster after a specific age. Longitudinal studies were undertaken on the aspects of the five factor model in an attempt to come to a conclusion about whether or not one s personality can change. Changes in personality may occur due to certain life experiences which can leave indents in one s personality, forcing it to change negatively or positively for a temporary or permanent amount of time in order to adapt to the environment. John Bowlby suggests the attachment theory is necessary in early life in order to shape an individual s personality. It appears that Shakespeare is justifying Macbeth s ruthless ambition and want to maintain power, which puts Macbeth into darker depths by having Banquo and Fleance murdered, by his lack of an heir. Similarly, the audience is provided by Snowball as the rival to Napoleon s absolute power in his introduction to the character in Chapter 2. Orwell tells the reader he was a more vivacious pig than Napoleon , setting him up immediately in competition His description goes on to describe him as quicker in speech and more inventive . This is proven when he emerges later in Chapter 4 as the brave hero of the Battle of the Cowshed after which we see him awarded with the military decoration of Animal Hero First Class while the reader realizes Napoleon seems to be conspicuous in his absence. Moreover, Snowball invents plans for the windmill and Orwell outlines all his creative ideas in his committees and therefore Napoleon clearly makes plans to expel him from the farm.
