Christie-Miller s Report
Turkey s president Mustafa Kemal Ataturk believed that the entire world is the creation of women.
Yet, we continue to witness the horrific crime of honor killings of women in Turkey. A report by
Christie Miller (2011) suggests that honor killings in Turkey have gone up 14 times in seven years.
This emphasizes the conflict between conservative values and the country s rapid modernization.
As pointed out by Sev er and Gökçeçeçiçek (2001), these killings continue to happen in
Turkey despite the fact that Turkey underwent a social, cultural, political and legal transformation
under President Ataturk between 1926 and 1928 which, ensured gender equality.
Honor killing is generally the act of murdering a female blood relative, who is suspected of getting
involved with a person unacceptable to the family, thereby violating social norms and bringing
dishonor to the family. Honor is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though Turkey has made great headway economically, it has seriously lagged behind in
bridging the gender gap. Women are in greater danger from men they know, rather than from the
men they don t know. Turkey s legal system cannot be supportive of such heinous crimes anymore.
These crimes are only happening because the law enforcement agencies take little or no legal
action against the perpetrators and the courts take a lackadaisical approach. In a nutshell, the law in
Turkey treats honor as a form of social currency and property. As such, by condoning violent crimes
committed by men who pursue lost honor through honor killings, the courts are perpetuating the
crime. The most critical issue in this debate is the reaffirmation by the legal system that such
behavior on the part of the male relatives is not honorable but cowardly. As such, it is imperative
that there is zero tolerance for honor

The Discovery Of Mirror Neurons
The discovery of mirror neurons remains extremely influential within neuroscience, specifically
their role in higher level cognitive empathic functions (Haker, Kawohl, Herwig, Rossler, 2013).
Previous research shows that mirror neurons activate when an action is both performed and
observed. Additionally, this phenomenon transfers to emotional responses, showing activation
when experiencing an emotionor observing it in other people (e.g. facial expressions, yawning, etc.)
(Rizoolatti, Fogass, Gallese, 2006). Associations also exist between unconscious mimicry (the
chameleon effect) and the mirror neuronsystems, showing the extent of these mechanisms
(Iacoboni, 2009).
The widespread effects of stress, in addition to the involvement of ... Show more content on

This suggests that if someone is exhibiting these stress behaviors, it could spread to others around
them, possibly leading to increased stress levels of the group.
3)SPECIFIC AIM 3: To determine whether observing stress behaviors elicit activation in the
emotional centers of the brain, thus producing an emotional stress response in the observer.
Previous research suggests that observing an emotion (facial expressions, contagious yawning, etc.)
can elicit brain activation concurrent with experiencing the emotion, specifically mirror neurons
within the limbic system (i.e. empathy) (Iacoboni, 2009). If observing stress behaviors can elicit
emotional responses in the observer, it suggests an explanation for the culture of stress that
permeates college campuses and other stressful environments.
Background and Significance
Since the discovery of mirror neurons, many behavioral phenomena have been associated with the
activation of the mirror neuron system (MNS). For example, activation of the mirror neuron system
has been implicated in the chameleon effect, which refers to unconscious mimicking of
mannerisms, facial expressions, and other behaviors (Chartrand Bargh, 1999; Iacoboni, 2009; Carr
Winkielman, 2014). Further research also associates the MNS with

Examples Of Courtly Love In The Knight s Tale
Most honorable men of Ancient England practiced chivalry, and committed themselves to a
courtly love with the woman they wanted. Courtly love emphasizes nobility and chivalry in order
to wed the woman of your dreams. Some may even say Ancient England is where chivalry was
invented. Courtly love is romanticized in the Canterbury Tale s: The Franklin s Tale, The Squire s
Tale, and The Knights Tale. These three short stories encompass Ancient England s idea of courtly
lovethrough the practices of chivalry between knights and noblemen. The Franklin s Tale
discusses the love triangle of a courageous knight named Arveragus, a beautiful young lady named
Dorigen, and the most handsome nobleman named Aurelius. Arveragus and Dorigen wed, but
Arveragus must leave for two years for work. During this time Dorigen becomes lonely, and
Aurelius decides to attempt to win her over. However, she gives him a task that he surely can t
complete in order to have her. He uses a student s magic in order to complete the task, but when he

The love story here is of two young knights Arcite and Palamon and their love for Emilie. They
both face challenges along the way, but agree to joust for the love of Emilie. This explains the
type of courtly love where two men agree to fight for that of a young woman s love. The stage
becomes set for not a joust but a war. Both knights pray to two different gods. Arcite prays to
Mercury the god of War, and Palamon prays to Venus the goddess of love. Arcite indeed wins the
war, but does not win the girl as Palamon does. It is understood that because Palamon prays to the
goddess of love that he is more deserving of Emilie s love. Here courtly love is demonstrating
because Palamon fought solely for the honor of Emilie s love, whereas Arcite fought only to win the

The consumer market for ESPN s streaming service is made up of sports enthusiasts who need
access to live events and sports information on the go. According to our situation analysis,
consumers use ESPN for their sports needs because of ESPN s strong brand name; the ESPN brand
promotes awareness and trust to consumers within the sports entertainment market. Due to ESPN s
focus on a higher purpose, many consumers choose ESPN over competitors for their environmental
sustainability and diversity initiatives. Thus, ESPN s well known brandname and positive public

Questions On Addressing Challenges With Etsy Essay
Topic 4: Addressing Challenges with Etsy
Etsy is a marketplace where people around the world connect, both online and offline, to make, sell
and buy unique goods, giving creative entrepreneurs the opportunity to sell what they make or
create, giving shoppers the opportunity to buy unique items they normally can t be found in stores.
Etsy promotes it products as handmade, and original. When furthering my research, Team Tim
located several complaints such as, the lack of communication between buyer and seller, not
receiving merchandise in the specified time, and also the quality of the product not meeting the
standards indicated by Etsy. Etsy does not have customer service and they do not respond to emails;
Team Tim will further address these challenges that Etsy faces and described the solutions to these
challenges in forecast recommendations.
One story, about a mother purchasing Nike shoes for her son, the shoes costed $135.00. She
specified that it took longer than stated to receive the item, and they were being shipped from
China. She rechecked the ad and the description, it clearly stated made in America, this came as a
surprise. When they finally received the merchandise it did not exceed expectations. So she took
the shoes to a local retailer and they verified they were fake, not even worth $35.00. She then
began to reach out to Etsy about the matter, and they were never acknowledged, in return, she was
sent an email with a link for seller they didn t not work. Team

Assassination Of Franz Ferdinand Research Paper
The Assassination of Franz Ferdinand was a turning point in European history. This is because it
was one of the main events that eventually led to the start of World War I.
Franz Ferdinand was the Austrian archduke of Austria whose assassination in 1914 is generally
considered to have begun World War I. He lived most of his life as a wealthy nobleman before
becoming involved in the politics of the Austro Hungarian Empire, eventually cause the disfavor of
the Serbian nationalists who killed him.

with one another, continuously. So as it began, Germany invaded France, Belgium and

percent of its troops. The number of death kept increasing to the other nations as well. Even
though Serbia was successful, they were still defeated by the central power. Black Hand should

In Canada the majority of Canadian adults favor gay and lesbian marriages. In British Columbia

Why Churchill Ordered The Attack
Evidence that Churchill ordered the attack because of this belief can be traced back to the
aftermath of when Germany invaded France. To illustrate, preparations by the British Prime
Minister and other British officials to ensure that no enemy forces took hold of the French fleet
occurred before the signing of the Franco German armistice on June 22, 1940. On the days leading
up to the signing of the armistice between France and Germany, Churchill was determined to block
any opportunity for Germany to take control of the French Fleet.2 He even proposed that if the
French leaders granted Britain possession of the fleet, he would excuse France s failure to abide by
the pact the nation signed with Britain, which demanded that France and Britain

How Did Paris Change Throughout The 19th Century
Paris today is known as the city of lights. Full of opportunity and adventure, this city has a
wonderful reputation as an amazing home to some and tourist attraction to others. There are many
facets of the city that have helped to build the great reputation that Paris holds, and if it was not for
the rich history that this cityhas, it would not be the admirable city that it is today. Throughout the
late 18th and 19th centuries, many different obstacles arose for the city of Paris. From 1789 to 1891,
Paris overcame a great deal, some of which included The Terror, the reign of Napoleon I and III,
and The Commune. Many pieces of literature were published during this time and aided in

Napoleon III was still in power, but during this time, Paris transformed into the Paris that many
know today. In Emile Zola s The Belly of Paris, is set in Les Halles, which is the central market
in Paris during the 19th century. A major theme in this novel which also helps to describe how
Paris changes during this century is the struggle between the fat and the thin. Unlike today,
Paris viewed fat people as wealthy and privileged, because they were obviously able to afford
luxurious foods. Thin people, on the contrary, were viewed as poverty stricken people who
could not afford to eat. Zola describes the main character, Florent: No, hunger had never left
him. He wracked his brains, but could not recall a single moment when his stomach had felt full.
He had become dry and withered; his stomach seemed to have shrunk; his skin clung to his bones
(Zola 12). Unfortunately, 19th century Paris had a large divide between the rich and the poor
and it was visible by how fat or thin people were. Although Florent had just arrived in Paris after
escaping his arrest, this quote perfectly describes how poverty affected society in 19th century
Paris. In addition, this novel also helps to describe the terrible working and living conditions of
the poor during this time. A particular family s living conditions is described: It was in the cellars
under the poultry market that they found a way of continuing to sleep together. Near the
slaughtering blocks were some big baskets of feather in which they could stretch out... Usually
they would drag their basket away from the gaslight; they were alone in the strong smell of
poultry, kept awake by the sudden crowning of the cocks in the dark (Zola 161). This couple went
to what seems to be the ends of the earth to find a somewhat comfortable sleeping situation,
although it is still very bad.

The Movie In A Grove By Akira Kurosawa
Rashomon was released in 1950, and is the work of esteemed Japanese director Akira Kurosawa.
Rashomon was only the second film directed by Kurosawa, but it is by far his most popular and
influential piece of work. Kurosawa worked closely with cinematographer Kazup Miyagawa to
create this film, which was based on Ryunosuke Akytagawa s short story In a Grove . The film
was the first of its kind to create a plot device that is now commonly used, and referred to as the
RashomonEffect . The film tells the story of one terrible rape and murder through the eyes and
perspectives of four different characters. All four characters have their own account for what
they saw in the woods, and all stories contradict one another in a way that prevents viewers from
truly knowing what happened in the woods. When Rashomon won the top prize at the 1950
Venice Film Festival it legitimized Japanese films as viable commercial entities in foreign
markets, and established, once and for all, that the country s austere approach to storytelling could
be understood by viewers in the West (Tatara). This film was a breakthrough for Japanese cinema,
as well as Kurosawa s directing career. The story begins with a samurai and his wife travelling
through Japan, the woman on horseback and her husband walking alongside of her. They encounter

The good thing about mind simulation is that they often feel real and if you are one of those who

One, see (visualize) a balloon inflating in front of your eyes.
Two, imagine that the same thing is happening with your head (which represents your head). So,
here the bigger the balloon gets inflated the more you should imagine your head getting big and at
the same time your memory being enhanced.

Chai tea originated from India and as much as it is full of exotic flavors It is also good for your

Warm yourself a cup and let the herbs work in the warm water for a minute maximum.
Then, start sipping once on the tea. Count to 10 and then take two more sips. Let the tea work on
you and crawl into your senses (take 10 seconds to do this).
Next, take more sips and each time oxygenate your brain and enhance your memory by breathing in
and out, helping the ingredients in the tea travel through your head and unlock your memory. The
trick consists of absorbing all the memory enhancing properties of the tea by helping get absorbed
through sipping and breathing at the same time.
After you are done with your cup, you can then take advantage of the chai tea which has just
unlocked your memory, which is free from barriers, dust and spiders and reveal a refreshed and

History of Free Trade Agreements
Free trade assignment
For thousands years, the world societies had enjoyed trade. People and nations have traded their
product from one country to another and many nations have enjoyed the easy way of exchanging
of goods and services without restrictions. However, after the world war one Free trade has been
crippled due to free trade restrictions called trade protections. Trade protectionism is defined as
the use of government regulations to limit the import of goods and services. (Williams kinicki.
P 117).One of main trade protectionism is the use of tariffs. Tariffs are form of trade barrier by
which government or countries tax on imported goods and services. In America and around the
world trade protectionism has been widely used because anti free trade believes that it will save
jobs and stabilized the economy. On the other hand, pro free trade is not considering trade
protection as beneficial but rather impairing overall trading atmosphere. In this paper, I would like
to talk about the overall disadvantage and disadvantage of free trade has on the economy. The
advantages of free trade, are increase production, production efficiency, benefit to consumers,
foreign exchange gains, employment, and economic growth. (Edge ken). In free trade countries
increase production of goods or commodities in which they have comparative advantage. The
theory of comparative advantage was first developed by David Ricardo. According to Ricardo,

Catalytic Decomposition Of Hydrogen Peroxide
Factors affecting the catalytic decomposition of Hydrogen peroxide
Please refer to the additional files for tables/graphs.
Aim The purpose of this investigation is to investigate how certain factors affect the catalytic
decomposition of Hydrogen peroxide. I will investigate the effect of altering the mass of catalyst
used on the rate of the decomposition of Hydrogen peroxide.
Introduction
The decomposition of Hydrogen peroxide is a process by which Hydrogen peroxide decomposes
into water and Oxygen. It has the following equation:
2H2O2 (l) 2H2O (l) + O2 (g)
This reaction does occur spontaneously at room temperature with the presence of Ultraviolet light;
however only very slowly. It occurs far faster when a catalyst is used. ... Show more content on
Helpwriting.net ...
This lowers the rate of reaction due to the lower concentration (as explained in the variables
section). Once a Hydrogen peroxide molecule has decomposed it is no longer a consideration
and cannot decompose again as it is no longer a Hydrogen peroxide molecule. This lowers the
numbers of Hydrogen peroxide molecules present lowering the concentration thus lowering the
rate of reaction, eventually lowering the rate of reaction to nil where all (or virtually all)
Hydrogen peroxide molecules have decomposed. At this point no more products are produced as
no more Hydrogen peroxide is reacting, as no more Hydrogen peroxide is colliding with catalyst
particles, because it has all decomposed.
In this graph a higher concentration results in a higher rate of reaction whilst the reaction is
proceeding (until the rate of reaction for all concentrations reaches 0) and a higher mass of product
produced. This is because the increased chance of collisions with the catalyst, due to the increased
number and density of the Hydrogen peroxide, means at the start of the reaction there are more
collisions with the catalyst leading to a higher initial rate of reaction. I believe this rate of reaction
will be proportional to the concentration as by increasing the concentration a certain amount you
increase the number of molecules present by a proportional amount. You therefore also increase the
chance of collision with the catalyst due to increased

Bilingual Education Controversy
The Disputation Over Bilingual Education There are many aspects of the United States education
system that many people would agree need change or in the minimal improvement. One topic under
the education system that has had much controversy since it was first introduced is Bilingual
Education. Bilingual Education is the teaching or practice programs of two languages to teach
content ranging from kindergarten to high school. Bilingual Educationprograms vary in levels and
languages. Some programs are designed to assimilate non english speakers into the English
language, others are meant develop knowledge of a completely different foreign language.
Equally the goal proficiency of the language varies drastically. Some programs are meant to teach
students the basic understandings of the language in oder to write and speak it adequately and
others are meant to allow the student to reach a fluency level. One of the most popular type of
program would be a Spanish and English program since Spanish is the second most spoken
language in the United States. The most common type if bilingual program is intended to transition
native Spanish speakers into the English language; this is way of helping kids assimilate into the
American culture. However, the use of two languages established in the education system has been
a controversial idea since first introduced. It receives differing support and has not been able to
achieve a conclusive establishment in the public school system. The

Year 8 Economics Syllabus
Rationale: The following is a plan on two consecutive lessons in Year 8 Economics. The
curriculum covers the participation and influences in the market place , and the students will learn
how resources are allocated through market exchange and the role of consumers, producers and
the government in a market economy (School Curriculum and Standards Authority [SCSA], n.d.).
The primary goal of these two lessons is to explain why well defined private property rights and
the enforcement of law by the government are key to market exchange. The first lesson uses the
Indigenous Australian s deprivation from wages in WA from late 19th century to 1970s as a case
study to examine the importance of basic labour right protection. The concept can then be
generalized and applied to private property rights as the foundation of a market economy. The
second lesson proceeds to discuss the role of the government in a market economy. In addition to

According to Weitz (1991), a large scale survey carried out in the U.S.A found problems facing
an individual who is HIV positive or diagnosed with AIDS face discrimination largely down to

other parts have been introduced over time. For example, within organisations and businesses it
became unlawful for employers to treat disabled people less favorably than other employees for

also believe that Zoe s term of wildness is unusual because when she made that statue and they
called it the Wild Thing . The cat, in his perspective, explained that it resemble her. If she and
Henry know that the statute resemble her they were exclaiming that she is a Wild Thing, and she
has wildness inside of her. Therefore, I believe that Zoe thinks the term wildness means unusual. I

tameness can t hurt animals mentally, and physically. For example, if Zoe had been tame

The Red Tent Gender Roles
The role and strength of women in a male dominated society in biblical times is the fundamental
theme of The Red Tent. The red tent is a physical and spiritual place, where the women of Jacob s
tribe his wives, servants and daughters, could rest while menstruating and childbearing, but more
importantly, it became a safe shelter for feminist unity and companionship. The red tent provides
all the women a haven to be in their power together, to learn from one another, to be part of a
community, and to celebrate their lives without any disturbance from the male chauvinism. In the
red tent , women such as Leah, Dinah and Rachel are able to play critical and decisive roles
protectors, friends and teachers.

Rachel is Jacob s favored and primary wife. (Stacy, 2002, 24) Early in the novel, Rachel stands
out initially for her beauty and magnetism. There is no denying that Rachel is a professional and
sagacious teacher for Dinah, her medical skill is so superb and brilliant that she has cured and
saved many lives of mothers and their babies. In Dinah s mind, Rachel [knows] everything about
delivering babies, she and Inna [try] to learn what they might from women wherever they [go].
(Anita, 2007, 234) Moreover, Rachel teaches Dinah not only knowledge and technique about
delivering babies but also female values and philosophy about love, dedication and sacrifice. She
is only one in the red tent who brings Dinah out of the red tent and encourages her to purser the
true love bravely; she has given Dinah many spiritual supports and guidance. Furthermore, Rachel
is a great teacher for Dinah and other women who live in the red tent. According to Reading the
Women of the Bible, in the biblical time, women were undermined by the society in which they
live in. They spent almost all their adult lives producing and looking after children. Under this
circumstance, education was limited and very few outdoor jobs were available to all women,
they had to stay inside the red tent for their whole lives. They were expected to marry and look
after family because men have normally held power. However, as the midwife, Rachel seizes the
opportunity to experience the world outsider the red tent , she can learn something new and
different from the outsider so that she could teach other women about what she sees and hears.
Rachel [becomes] their link to the larger world. (Anita, 2007, 79) She provides women freedom

The Importance Of The Police And Criminal Evidence Act 1984
Safety is a fundamental right that we all deserve. Most of us rely on the government to provide
this security. We pay for this through taxes, but the question that we must ask ourselves is are we
getting what we are paying for? By paying our taxes to the government we are giving it the
authority to choose the service we are getting back. The Policeand Criminal Evidence Act 1984
(PACE) is an Act of Parliament which instituted a legislative framework for the powers of police
officers in England and Wales to combat crime, as well as providing codes of practice for the
exercise of those powers. PACE sets out to strike the right balance between the powers of the
police and the rights and freedoms of the public. Maintaining that balance is a central element of
PACE. These powers have been given to the police to insure our safety however how much power
the police really hold is limited by the PACE, the police must carry out their duty without breaching
the rights of individuals. the question of whether or not these rights should be abolished is a
debatable one.
The police stop and search power first came about in 1984 the aim of this act was to protect the
rights of the public from the misconduct of police officers. some may argue that they are still not
protected by this act.Scottish ministers are under renewed pressure to abolish controversial police
stop and search powers, after United Nations human rights experts said they were potentially
breaching international law.

1763 Dbq Analysis
When the British fought in the French and Indian War it put them in great debt. In order to get out
of the enormous debt they taxed the colonies. The reactions of the colonists were sometimes harsh.
They argued they had no representation in Parliament so they tarred and feathered, burned
effigies, raided tax collectors, and boycotted British goods. Some of the acts they passed were the
Sugar and Coercive Acts. They both angered the colonists tremendously. The Acts passed by the
British caused tensions and many reactions from the colonists. The Stamp Act, which was passed
in 1765, had many reactions from the colonists. When the British passed the Stamp Act it taxed
everything printed like newspapers, dice, playing cards, legal documents, etc. They all needed a
British stamp on it. George Grenville, the prime minister, proposed it because of the debt from the
French and Indian War. The colonies were the least taxed of the colonies, but they were enraged

There are many arguments and politics surrounding the hotly debated topic, by those arguments go

Injections have many problems, but the government isn t able to solve them without a clear cut

Robert Cialdini And His Colleagues Essay
Robert Cialdini and his colleagues (1976) introduced and formalized the social psychological
phenomenon called basking in reflected glory (BIRG), recognizing how individuals tend to increase
their identification with a person or group with whom they share a preexisting ingroup identity
when the latter has succeeded in an endeavor that brings group pride. Social identitytheory is
typically invoked to explain how the phenomenon is manifested through ingroup affiliation and self
enhancement. Though BIRG as a phenomenon has been found to be replicable across cultures, its
determinants and manifestations nonetheless vary cross culturally. Through the current literature
review that aims to integrate the results of previous studies, it is found that the noninstrumental
nature of ingroup identification and the increase in association with a successful other are cross
culturally similar. However, the construal of social identity and the achievements that become a
source of ingroup pride are significantly determined by a country s historical and economic milieu,
while the characteristics of self enhancement (on both ascribed group and self esteem) are informed
by the values and expectations set forth by the culture to which basking individuals belong.

Evaluation Essay On Corvettes
Abstract
This paper is an evaluative look at why the Chevrolet Corvette is one of the greatest sports cars
in the world. Sports cars can be judged in three areas; cost, performance, and comfort, each area
will be evaluated as to why these criteria are important, with examples shown to for definition. The
Corvette will be shown how it compares in regards to the measurements, and in some cases
exceeds them. Showing why it should be considered a great sports car
The Chevrolet Corvette: A great sports car

Stopping, just as important as acceleration the ability to slow or stop quickly and safely are
important traits of performance, this can be indicated by braking distance from a certain speed,
where a shorter stopping distance is more desirable measure of performance. The Corvettes
performance shows that it fits the great sports car mold. Speed, power and the ability to hug the
road, are all part of the experience of driving a truly great sports car. The Corvette delivers in all
these areas, it has a 0 60 MPH time of less than 5 seconds, and a time of slightly less than 14
seconds in the quarter mile. In the 525 foot slalom test an average speed of 47.9 mph was
obtained. On the skid pad the Corvette is able to obtain 0.96 lateral g s (Stewart, 2007). The
Corvette s stopping power is noted in its ability to come to a complete stop from 60 miles per
hour in only 125 feet (Mueller, 1998). These performance measures may not be used in everyday
driving, but the ability to stop quickly in an emergency situation is apparent, as is having enough
acceleration to merge onto a busy highway, with the performance the Corvette has, these everyday
tasks can be accomplished effortlessly and safely.
Comfort, when most people think of older sports cars, comfort is not one of the things that come to
mind. Small, no top, hard to steer, loud, these are the things that older cars such as the first
generation Corvettes, the Porsche 550 Spyder, known as the car

This show lasted for four seasons before it was canceled. That show may have been finished, but
the character that she played was not. Grande starred in a spin off of Victorious called Sam Cat
which lasted only one season before ending in 2014. Grande has really made a name for herself in
less than two years. She signed a recording contract with a Major Record Deal, Republic
Records, and is under Scooter Braun Management (known for working with Justin Bieber, Tori
Kelly and The Black Eyed Peas.) Some argue over which is better: Major or Indie Label. Some
artists refuse to sign with a major record label because they want to do their music their own way
and on their own terms and without the restrictions that come with working with a major label.
Personally, I think that people signed to a Major Record Label have more access to larger
resources and people with more experience working in the music industry and with that comes
more success (because I m sure you have heard of all the people that I mentioned that belong to
that label.) Before becoming a music star, Grande just like every other artist drew inspiration from

In this essay I will be comparing the opening sequences of The Italian Job (1969) and its modern
day remake The Italian Job (2003). The original was directed by Peter Collinson and starred
famous actors such as Michael Caine. It was a huge success and gained a massive cult following.
The remake in 2003 was directed by Gary Gray and stared Mark Wahlberg and Seth Green. Again
this was a huge success and introduced the film to a new generation. The opening sequence is a
very important one as it gives the viewer a feel for the movie and what s to be expected from the

In the 2003 version the action is quite different; as the credits are rolling, fast paced orchestral

of crime. The music builds up to a climax before stopping and going into the movie. A man in his

The Toothpaste Factory Got The Top People
Dedication To my parents, who gave me life and taught me the meaning of it. Both by accident.
Introduction Once upon a time, a toothpaste factory had a problem. They sometimes shipped
empty boxes without the tube inside. This was caused by the way the production line was set
up, and people with experience in designing production lines will tell you how difficult it is to
have everything happen with timings so precise that every single unit coming out of it is perfect
100% of the time. Small variations in the environment (which can t be controlled in a cost
effective fashion) mean you must have quality assurance checks smartly distributed across the line
so customers all the way down to the supermarket don t get angry and buy another product
instead. Understanding how important that was, the CEO of the toothpaste factory got the top
people in the company together and they decided to start a new project in which they would hire
an external engineering company to solve their empty boxes problem since their engineering
department was already too stretched to take on any extra effort. The project followed the usual
process: budget and project sponsor allocated, RFP and third parties selected. Six months (and $8
million) later, they had a fantastic solution on time, on budget, high quality and everyone in the
project had a great time. They solved the problem by using high tech precision scales that would
sound a bell and flash lights whenever a toothpaste box would weigh less

Effective Reward Management Effective reward management is critical to organizational

Furthermore, Schuler and Jackson (as cited in Esteves Caetano, 2010) state that the focal point of
success of companies today is centered on the effective use of human resources. In today s
knowledge based economy, innovation has become the principal source of competitive advantages
in global business; the success of firms now depends more on their intelligence capability such as
employee creativity than traditional material assets (Amabile et al., as cited in Zhou, Zhang
Montoro SГЎnchez, 2011). The creative capability of individual and collective knowledge workers
is the fuel that powers innovation in firms. While creativity leads to the production of new and
useful ideas in any domain, innovation is the successful implementation of those creative ideas
within an organization (McLean, as cited in Zhou, Zhang Montoro Sanchez 2011). In highly
dynamic business environments, innovation and creativity have become crucial for creating
competitive advantages for the firm. People are the most vital resource of an innovative
organization, and all innovation based firms, in order to succeed, have to learn how to manage,
motivate and reward their people (Gupta and Singhal, as cited in Zhou, Zhang Montoro Sanchez

positively with increased innovative behavior by employees (Eisenberger., Cameron and

Report on Refugee Rights in Australia
Background of Refugee Rights Political Movement
Since 2000, both the refugee rights political movement in Australia as a whole as well as the
Australian National Committee on Refugee Women (ANCORW) have primarily been focused on
key issues such as the differential treatment of asylum seekers based on how they arrived in
Australia or apply for protection, the Pacific and Malaysian solution, the detention of asylum
seekers and combating the view that boat arrivals are not genuine refugees . Although there are
many other concerns, the issues listed above are the major ones.

As a means of raising awareness in the general public about the lives of refugees, in 2009,
ANCORW launched an education resource which highlights the inspiring contributions and
successes of refugees settling in Australia. Title, Celebration of Refugee Lives : Stories of Strength

In 2010, ANCROW and the CRR initiated a project to explore the difficulties faced by refugee
families and identify steps to improve family settlement outcomes. Past projects found that the
issues of family conflict, violence and separation in settlement have become one of the most
pressing problems experienced by refugee families settling in Australia. This is exacerbated by other

trouble adjusting to a new culture. This project aims to research these problems and provide

Coping Motives Essay
Coping motives involve drinking to avoid the experience of negative emotions such as depression
or anxiety. This is the most potential mediator that lies between social anxiety and alcohol use.
Several studies have found a significant positive relationship between these variables and a strong
association with alcoholrelated problems for high and moderate level of social anxiety (Ham et
al., 2007; Martens et al., 2008; Clerkin Barnett, 2012). Students, especially first year
undergraduates, were among the most vulnerable group who often experience unpleasant feelings

too was shown to have a low level of agreeableness, inferiority complex, and difficulties identifying

period in college, and vice versa when enters later life (Kuntschea et al., 2006). Although a couple of

Why The Fries Taste Good By Michael Pollan Analysis
Pollan and McCorkle Synthesis with Schlosser Michael Pollan, writer of Eat Food: Food
Defined and Her Chee to Heart author Jill McCorkle are both aware of the unhealthy nature of
processed foods, but Pollan would scold McCorkle for succumbing to the processed food s appeal
because he discredits the category foodproduct as actual food; there is nothing about McCorkle s
relationship to food that Pollan will agree with. These nonfiction articles take different stances on
food in the twenty first century. Pollan s approach is to warn consumers about processed foods
and to guide them into a healthier lifestyle while McCorkle describes her junk food addiction with
stories that highlight the artificial foods people are so quick to love. Eric Schlosser s Why the
Fries TasteGood is the third article connected to Pollan and McCorkle s; his writing explains why
processed food is so bad but also provides an explanation as to why it is appealing. McCorkle and
Pollan will never see eye to eye when it comes to what kind of food people should be eating.
While Pollan urges consumers to stay away from the enticing products foods at all costs,
McCorkle welcomes junk food as it is an integral part of her life. The way they shop for food is
completely opposite. Pollan argues that the best place to buy fresh produce and organic meat is a
farmer s market, but McCorkle s short lived trip to the all natural grocery store only reinforces that
she did not belong there. She was surrounded

Analysis Of The Movie Dope
I recently watched the Netflix movie, Dope, a coming of age movie that doubles as a parody
and a dedication to the 1990s vintage ghetto generation. Malcolm and his friends Jib and Diggy
are nerdy high school seniors who bond over anything 90s related, play music together in their
punk band, and have grown up together in The Bottoms, in Inglewood, California. Malcolm was
trying to escape a gang one day when he had an encounter with a neighborhood drug dealer
named Dom. Dom ended up invited him to his birthday party, and with hesitation, Malcolm and
his friends decide to go. After an eventful night, Malcolm and his friends later discover that Dom
had stashed a handgun and a large amount of drugs in his backpack to hide it from the police
who raided the party. The rest of the movie plays out into a war over the drugs that Malcolm
accidentally possessed. Malcolm ends up selling the drugs and promises Dom s prominent
supplier, who was also coincidentally Malcolm s college interviewer, the profits made from the
drugs. Malcolm makes this deal with him only as long as he helps Malcolm achieve his goal of
getting into Harvard. Malcolm ends up setting up the supplier with the police while still getting
into Harvard and finally being able to get out of the hood. In terms of black masculinity, Malcolm
counteracts the hyper aggressive stereotypesthat some have in their head about young African
American men. In the movie Dope, numerous aspects of intersectionality are represented in

believed it was a fluke. Flash forward a week and the Jackets again dominated another top team
in the league, defeating the St. Louis Blues 8 to 4 on November 12 th . Currently, the Jackets
are sitting on a record of 8 4 2 while holding the best power play percentage in the NHL and a top
10 penalty kill percentage. This all begs the question: are the Blue Jackets for real this year? Going
into this season most analysts did not give the Jackets much credit, with many predicting another
bottom of the league finish to go along with last year s. But this team is seemingly... Show more

General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen attempted to solve that problem during last season when he
traded for the young defender Seth Jones. But the team ended last season still needing help on
the back end. They now have that help with the rookie out of the University of Michigan Zach
Werenski. Werenski has averaged the third most time on ice per game this year while also
scoring 13 points in 14 games. Unfortunately for the Blue Jackets, they have to compete with the
other Metropolitan division teams. The Rangers, Capitals, and Penguins are surely the favorites
to win the three division spots leaving the Jackets to fight with the Flyers, Devils, Islanders, and
other teams in the Atlantic division for the last two wildcard spots. While a difficult task this
Columbus team has shown so far they can outplay the best of them. Despite few real changes
being made to this team the Columbus Blue Jackets look revitalized after the disappointment that
was last season. The old players are looking like they used to and the new ones are providing
exceptionally. Whether it is coach John Tortorella s strategies taking hold, the player changes, or
the lack of having to live up to expectations that is sparking this team they are looking like their hot

International Regulation Of Copyright Law Essay
1)Introduction:
Trademark: Trademark recognizable features, expression, or other symbol that indicates a
particular product or service, and legally it apart from all other products. It also serves to only
identify the product or service from a particular company, and the recognition of ownership of the
company brand. The protected products are generally considered to be a form of property. Most
countries have agencies through which companies can have their products with trademarks. One of
the main goals of a product is protected to protect the product from used without the permission of
the original society. Most countries have patent laws that are designed to defend against patent
breach. International regulation of copyright is much more complex, because there is no
universally recognized Patent Office
Patent: A patent is basically a government license which provides the holder the exclusive right to
process, design or new invention for a specific time period. Patent applications are usually handled
by government agencies. You can use a patent to protect his invention. It provides you the
opportunity to take legal steps against anyone who makes, used, sold or imported without your
permission.
To obtain a patent, your invention must be all of the following: Something that can be used or New

Achieving Six National Education Goals
According to President Bush, he made an announcement on April 18, 1991 that he wanted to
achieve six national education goals by the year 2000. There are six objectives: 1. Make sure
every student is ready to learn on the first day of school. 2. 90% graduation rate 3. Making sure
that each has the skill for all core subjects. 4. Make sure that a student have achieved in the math
and science 5. To ensure that every adult is well trained and possess the abilities to contend with
an environmental economy and will able to live upwards to his or her responsibilities of citizenship
6. Two free all schools from drugs and violence so that learning can take place. Admitting that the
White House tact sheet had accompanied and take action for the change for American educationwas
considered for a number of reasons. The reason being was that 8 years pursuing the publication of A
Nation at Risk (1983), educational results was not significantly improved. Second, our global
participants and partners were really taking education extremely well because American students
were about the lynchpin of the large numbers in worldwide assessments. Understandably, that a
principal role for legislative initiative was to accomplish competitive educational excellence, which
would help to improve global economic competitiveness. Reforms in Special educationare facing

Should The Government Regulate The Internet
These days the internet has become an essential part to living for almost everyone but one of the
controversial topics that people bring up is that whether or not the government should regulate
information on the internet. Both sides have valid points which form a reasonable argument. Some
people would say that they need to because of the dangers lurking around in the cyber world but the
reasons for why the government shouldn t regulate the Internetoutnumber the reasons for why they
should. The federal government should not regulate or censor information on the internet because
doing so violates the first amendment and citizen s right to privacy, degrades the educational value
of the web, prevents the promotion and facilitation of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 2011, several people started a Don t Filter Me project. They wanted to remove the web filters on
the school computers that blocked several educational sites. They filed lawsuits and demanded that
they unblock these sites and take away the web filters. Also another group of people petitioned the
Supreme Court to strike down the Communications Decency Act in Reno v. ACLU in 1997. As a
result, the court granted the highest level of First Amendment protection to the internet. Also in
2004, the Supreme Court announced that it will not hear government s appeal of a ban on the
Child Online Protection Act. They thought of this as a violation of the First Amendment (Internet
Censorship 1).
Once again, it would be common sense to allow someone their first amendment and privacy rights.
Without these rights, the people would never be able to truly express their ideas to the public. If
the government censored the internet, people would not be able to publish what they wanted to
because of the internet regulation. Instead of thinking creatively and coming up with new ideas,
people would have to follow regulations. This could be a danger to society because it would hinder
the people from succeeding, evolving, and gaining more information. This is why people should be
allowed to think freely without the federal government censoring and regulating the internet
(Redwin 3). This country started on the foundation and basis of freedom so it should be kept that

Introduction The classic HR model
Over the last decade a classic model, based on the work of Dave Ulrich et al, has emerged that has
three elements (recently he has added to the model but these three remain the core). We don t need
to go into detail but we will simply highlight these three key elements: business partners, shared
services and centres of expertise: Business Partners Establish relationships with customers line

Drivers for change: Dissatisfaction in many organisations with HR s contribution to the
restructurings and mergers in the early 2000 s. Increasing disillusion with HR s contribution
beyond following the latest management fad. This disillusion has led to calls to reduce the cost of
HR and to see harder measures of outcomes, whilst increasing HR s flexibility and business focus.
The move in many businesses to outsource non core activities including HR whilst providing a
stronger business contribution by enhancing HR s contribution to strategic business initiatives. The
change in organisational models themselves that are trying to balance the need for centrally driven
efficiencies with locally driven responsiveness. This highlights the challenge of providing strong
functional expertise with the need to align with different business needs. A shift in the role of HR
from being employee focused to an organisational and management focus. The adoption of ERP
systems accelerated by legacy fears in the run up to Y2K and the use of these systems to improve
and systematise administrative and HR processes so they become more efficient and consistent
whilst linking seamlessly to the front office. As one commentator said: The human resources
function within companies today needs to look at itself much more as a business, because that is
how executives are looking at it and

Study Of The Navy Leaders Guide Mobile Application
Summary
The Benchmarking Quarterly Report provides the results of the Technology Enhancement Center s
(TEC) most recent benchmark study that evaluates the user experience and usability of T2
products. This report reviews the benchmark study of the Navy Leaders Guide mobile application.
During the 3rd quarter of 2015, TEC conducted a pilot benchmark study comprised of attitudinal
and behavioral methods used to evaluate user satisfaction and performance of the Navy Leaders
Guide mobile application. Although 15 elected to participate in the study, only 10 participants
completed the full evaluation consisting of the Questionnaire for User Interaction Satisfaction
(QUIS) (Chin, et al 1988) and a think aloud task analysis (Ericsson, et al 1980).
Based on data provided solely by the QUIS, the overall mean is 7.75 (Very Good).
Introduction
TEC benchmark studies measure the current user experience and usability of T2 and T2/VA co
branded products such as Navy Leaders Guide and AfterDeployment.org to provide a baseline
against similar products and/or future T2 product versions. Benchmarking against similar products
is useful for identifying the strengths and weakness in user experience and usability for future
growth, and benchmarking earlier versions against newer versions of a product shows user
experience and usability improvement over time.
This benchmark study was a pilot designed to evaluate the T2/VA co branded product Navy
Leaders Guide using attitudinal and behavioral

Breaking The Barriers In Robert Frost s Mending Wall
Mending Wall by Robert Frost defines the walls that people have a tendency to build into their
lives to keep other people out. People the majority of the time attempt to respect their neighbors
barriers, and will assist in conserving their boundaries by respecting their personal space.
Nevertheless, some outgoing neighbors will attempt to tear down these walls while still
continuing to respect their neighbor. Additionally, if a friendly neighbor is able to establish
unwanted holes in one s wall, they will in all likelihood help mend these holes so as to keep the
integrity of the relationship. Altogether, individuals in today s society are afraid to allow strangers
into their personal lives. People build these walls in fear that if they allow someone close to them,
they give them the ability to hurt them.
Individuals frequently build walls around them, inhibiting others from becoming too close to them.
Additionally, out of respect, true friends often help maintain these wall in order to circumvent
conflict. Furthermore, still being able to maintain a healthy relationship, strangers will avoid
infringement of other s wall. These types of relationships can often be seen in a work environments
or amongst neighbors. In summary, some people regularly attempt to preserve a welcoming
affiliation with those around them, but become ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Canadian History Has Profoundly Shaped By Numerous Events
Canadian history has been profoundly shaped by numerous events. The fifteenth Prime Minister,
Pierre Elliot Trudeau remains one of the greatest citizens to define the nation s identity. During his
fifteen years in the position, he makes multiple decisions and contributions of great importance
towards the growth and prosperity of Canadian society. As a result of his ambitions and efforts,
widespread popularity known as Trudeaumania begins as a phenomenon that had existed like no
other before his time (Gwyn 14). He touched the dreams of an entire generation of Canadians and
his fame will continue for future Canadian generations, as his accomplishments positively affected
the country, leaving an enduring legacy that propels a still flourishing Canadian ideal of peace and
perseverance (Gzowski Peter and more 50). Further to his overall popularity amongst Canadian
citizens, Pierre Trudeauis a defining figure in Canadas rich history, as he unites Quebecwith the rest
of Canada, he is responsible for the passing of both the Constitution Act in 1982 and the
Multicultural Act in 1971.
One of the defining accomplishments of Trudeau s leadership is his strategic influence in the
unification of Quebec with the rest of Canada. Expressing his opinion towards Quebec, Trudeau
once said, I am trying to put Quebec in its place, and the place of Quebec is in Canada (Gzowski
and more 67). Within his early months as prime minister, he enacts the Official Languages Act in
1969, promoting

How Does Jay Asher Use First People Point Of View In...
Jay Asher s novel, Thirteen Reasons Why, begins with Clay Jensen, the narrator, receiving a
mysterious package at his door. The package contains the audiotaped suicide notes of Hannah
Baker, who was Clay s crush before she killed herself about two weeks ago. In the package, there
are a seven cassette tapes with thirteen different stories on them. On cassette number one, Hannah
informs the people receiving the package that she holds them responsible for her death, which is
explained on the tapes. After listening, each person must give the tapes to the next person on the
list and if anybody fails to complete this task, the recordings will be made public. Along with the
tapes, there is a map marked with destinations that the listeners are meant... Show more content on

The novel consists of Hannah Baker s audiotaped explanation of her suicide and Clay Jensen s
reactions. It moves back and forth between these two character s thoughts and actions. By using
first person point of view, Jay Asher was effectively able to add a level emotion which the reader
would never be able to get from a third person point of view. This is demonstrated when Hannah
says, I wish I would die. I ve thought those words many times. But it s a hard thing to say out
loud. It s even scarier to feel you might mean it (254). It is unbelievable to think that you re
inside the mind of a suicidal teen. Even though it is scary, it is the only way the reader is truly
able to understand Hannah Baker and the reasons why she killed herself. Furthermore, getting the
reactions of a person on the list, Clay Jensen, intrigues the reader as it is interesting to know what
time the person s name will pop up, what they did to cause Hannah s suicide and their thoughts on
everything they re hearing. For instance, when Clay is thinking to himself about Hannah, he says,
What if I got to know you and you turned out to be just like they said? What if you weren t the
person I hoped you were? That more than anything, would have hurt the most (207). With first
person point of view, the reader can understand Clay s thought process and have insight on what
the other twelve people are going through while listening to the tapes. Overall, it is very unique
that throughout the book, the reader is able to know the feelings and events of more than one
person in the book, while still having the novel be in first person point of

Frito Lay Essay
Specifications As a summer engineering intern at Frito Lay, the importance of maintaining
standards and quality on all projects has been reinforced to me daily. Considering that Frito Lay is
an organization with worldwide product distribution, protecting both the brand and the consumer is
understandably important. To ensure product consistency, the use of specifications is leveraged
throughout the company to detail operating consistency, safety protocol, and product quality
standards. With the pressure placed on engineers to guarantee that implemented solutions are safe
and will perform as expected, there is a tendency to overuse specifications. In their attempts to cover

owns the design specification and will not share details with competing suppliers. In addition, the
GES specification document calls out specific quality and safety design requirements for vendors
to follow. Compliance to the National Electrical code to insure proper electrical safety protocol is
followed is the overriding safety specification throughout the GES specification document. On the
quality front, design specifications detail maximum system drop point acceptance to minimize
product (Potato Chips tend to break if not handled gently) breakage. Frito Lay s commitment to
excellent and the culture for detail that has evolved as a result help ensure that only high quality
products that are safe both to produce and to consume make it to market. To take a less structured
approach would come with high risk. As the upside of doing things correctly far outweighs the
downside related to the risk of failure, I recommend that Frito Lay continue to leverage the same
expectation for detail on all future projects. In order to assist new employees who may join existing
project teams, I would also recommend that the company provide training on how to interpret and

How Did King George III Influence His Government
King George III A lot of people know about King George III. Some people haven t even heard his
name before; however he made a big impact and he should be well known. King George III s
father was strong headed man when it came to the government. His father grew up thinking he
need to restore the constitutional power of the monarchy. When George III had a say in the
government, his father was against him. They hated each other and never had a close
relationship. Being the eldest of his family George III was different than his father by far. We
know a little about his background and where he stood in government growing up, but we don t

That is what most people know him for (Pavao). During the Revolutionary War the king placed a
stamp act on any shipments of tea, ink, and more. The colonists were furious, they were
planning an attack. The King was expecting this to happen, he sent guards over to the colonies to
watch for any plot making or attacks getting ready to happen. The colonists dressed up as
Indians and attacked a shipment of tea that was under the stamp act. They dumped all the tea
into the harbor. It was called the Boston Tea Party. It made King George furious. Not only was
there fighting between guards and the colonists. The colonists split into two groups, the loyalists
who were loyal to the king. The patriots were against the king, and wanted to be individual. The
American Revolution presented George III with a crisis that seemed to destroy all he had
worked to achieve (Reitan). King George was so stressed with so much happening at one time. It
made him go mad with illness. George III s long struggle to maintain the independent role of the
monarch was frustrated by the growth of cabinet government and the increasing power of
Parliament. George III could not stop the evolution of the British constitution (Reitan). He went
crazy and was sick. In 1809 the king became blind. As early as 1765 he had suffered an apparent
dementia (Funk Wagnall s New World Encyclopedia). He lost

Billy Bathegate by EL Doctorow Billy Bathgate is an important American novel in it s portrayal of
one young man s evolution from boyhood to maturity. The novel is about a fifteen year old boy
that gets taken under the wing of Dutch Schultz, a 1930 s gangster trying to keep a hold of his

Bemrose is talking about. The novel kind of grabs you and dares you to put it down because it

well, particularly the life of youth, with it s boundless resilience and illusions of immortality.
(Bemrose 58 9) He (Doctorow) is interested not in the abstractions of corruption, but in the
simple, emotional things of the criminal existence what it feels like to be a gangster, what moral
and psychological universe one inhabit. It s day to day mechanics and, perhaps most importantly,
how one survives a life of violence. Thus, underneath the soft prose of Billy s voice, we are given
glimpses of the murderous danger of the criminal life, and how the people who live it, particularly
it s leaders, keep their heads above water. (Clifford p.29)

Doctorow accomplishes the task of recreating the Bronx in the 1930 s with perfection. Everything
from the attitude of the depression to the realness of the gang scene is more than vividly expressed

  • 2. Christie-Miller s Report Turkey s president Mustafa Kemal Ataturk believed that the entire world is the creation of women. Yet, we continue to witness the horrific crime of honor killings of women in Turkey. A report by Christie Miller (2011) suggests that honor killings in Turkey have gone up 14 times in seven years. This emphasizes the conflict between conservative values and the country s rapid modernization. As pointed out by Sev er and GГ¶kГ§eГ§eГ§iГ§ek (2001), these killings continue to happen in Turkey despite the fact that Turkey underwent a social, cultural, political and legal transformation under President Ataturk between 1926 and 1928 which, ensured gender equality. Honor killing is generally the act of murdering a female blood relative, who is suspected of getting involved with a person unacceptable to the family, thereby violating social norms and bringing dishonor to the family. Honor is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though Turkey has made great headway economically, it has seriously lagged behind in bridging the gender gap. Women are in greater danger from men they know, rather than from the men they don t know. Turkey s legal system cannot be supportive of such heinous crimes anymore. These crimes are only happening because the law enforcement agencies take little or no legal action against the perpetrators and the courts take a lackadaisical approach. In a nutshell, the law in Turkey treats honor as a form of social currency and property. As such, by condoning violent crimes committed by men who pursue lost honor through honor killings, the courts are perpetuating the crime. The most critical issue in this debate is the reaffirmation by the legal system that such behavior on the part of the male relatives is not honorable but cowardly. As such, it is imperative that there is zero tolerance for honor ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Discovery Of Mirror Neurons The discovery of mirror neurons remains extremely influential within neuroscience, specifically their role in higher level cognitive empathic functions (Haker, Kawohl, Herwig, Rossler, 2013). Previous research shows that mirror neurons activate when an action is both performed and observed. Additionally, this phenomenon transfers to emotional responses, showing activation when experiencing an emotionor observing it in other people (e.g. facial expressions, yawning, etc.) (Rizoolatti, Fogass, Gallese, 2006). Associations also exist between unconscious mimicry (the chameleon effect) and the mirror neuronsystems, showing the extent of these mechanisms (Iacoboni, 2009). The widespread effects of stress, in addition to the involvement of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This suggests that if someone is exhibiting these stress behaviors, it could spread to others around them, possibly leading to increased stress levels of the group. 3)SPECIFIC AIM 3: To determine whether observing stress behaviors elicit activation in the emotional centers of the brain, thus producing an emotional stress response in the observer. Previous research suggests that observing an emotion (facial expressions, contagious yawning, etc.) can elicit brain activation concurrent with experiencing the emotion, specifically mirror neurons within the limbic system (i.e. empathy) (Iacoboni, 2009). If observing stress behaviors can elicit emotional responses in the observer, it suggests an explanation for the culture of stress that permeates college campuses and other stressful environments. Background and Significance Since the discovery of mirror neurons, many behavioral phenomena have been associated with the activation of the mirror neuron system (MNS). For example, activation of the mirror neuron system has been implicated in the chameleon effect, which refers to unconscious mimicking of mannerisms, facial expressions, and other behaviors (Chartrand Bargh, 1999; Iacoboni, 2009; Carr Winkielman, 2014). Further research also associates the MNS with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Examples Of Courtly Love In The Knight s Tale Most honorable men of Ancient England practiced chivalry, and committed themselves to a courtly love with the woman they wanted. Courtly love emphasizes nobility and chivalry in order to wed the woman of your dreams. Some may even say Ancient England is where chivalry was invented. Courtly love is romanticized in the Canterbury Tale s: The Franklin s Tale, The Squire s Tale, and The Knights Tale. These three short stories encompass Ancient England s idea of courtly lovethrough the practices of chivalry between knights and noblemen. The Franklin s Tale discusses the love triangle of a courageous knight named Arveragus, a beautiful young lady named Dorigen, and the most handsome nobleman named Aurelius. Arveragus and Dorigen wed, but Arveragus must leave for two years for work. During this time Dorigen becomes lonely, and Aurelius decides to attempt to win her over. However, she gives him a task that he surely can t complete in order to have her. He uses a student s magic in order to complete the task, but when he attempts to claim his prize of Dorigen, Arveragus than arrives back home. Dorigen explains... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The love story here is of two young knights Arcite and Palamon and their love for Emilie. They both face challenges along the way, but agree to joust for the love of Emilie. This explains the type of courtly love where two men agree to fight for that of a young woman s love. The stage becomes set for not a joust but a war. Both knights pray to two different gods. Arcite prays to Mercury the god of War, and Palamon prays to Venus the goddess of love. Arcite indeed wins the war, but does not win the girl as Palamon does. It is understood that because Palamon prays to the goddess of love that he is more deserving of Emilie s love. Here courtly love is demonstrating because Palamon fought solely for the honor of Emilie s love, whereas Arcite fought only to win the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Etsy promotes it products as handmade, and original. Etsy does not have customer service and they do not respond to emails; Team Tim will further address these challenges that Etsy faces and described the solutions to these challenges in forecast recommendations. One story, about a mother purchasing Nike shoes for her son, the shoes costed $135.00. She specified that it took longer than stated to receive the item, and they were being shipped from China. She rechecked the ad and the description, it clearly stated made in America, this came as a surprise. When they finally received the merchandise it did not exceed expectations. So she took the shoes to a local retailer and they verified they were fake, not even worth $35.00. She then began to reach out to Etsy about the matter, and they were never acknowledged, in return, she was sent an email with a link for seller they didn t not work. Team ... You will see how behind this great nation has remained. As many countries around the world explore less traditional ways of life, the United States has been left in the dust. In British Columbia where the polygamous marriages of members of a small Mormon splinter group are known to the government and allowed to exist. Even though, this is a small step, and with the majority support of many Canadians, Canada s future of giving equal rights to individuals wanting to participate in same sex marriages looks bright. Even though, the federal Canadian government has no plans to either widen the definition of marriage to include homosexuals, or to create a civil union state with new legislation. Many court challenges are in progress. The Danish government made changes to previous laws covering inheritance and tax laws to give same sex couples equality with married couples. This law allows rights that were granted to married couples such as; inheritance, insurance, pension, social security, income tax increases or deductions, and unemployment benefits. A major theme in this novel which also helps to describe how Paris changes during this century is the struggle between the fat and the thin. Unlike today, Paris viewed fat people as wealthy and privileged, because they were obviously able to afford luxurious foods. Thin people, on the contrary, were viewed as poverty stricken people who could not afford to eat. Zola describes the main character, Florent: No, hunger had never left him. He wracked his brains, but could not recall a single moment when his stomach had felt full. He had become dry and withered; his stomach seemed to have shrunk; his skin clung to his bones (Zola 12). Unfortunately, 19th century Paris had a large divide between the rich and the poor and it was visible by how fat or thin people were. Although Florent had just arrived in Paris after escaping his arrest, this quote perfectly describes how poverty affected society in 19th century Paris. In addition, this novel also helps to describe the terrible working and living conditions of the poor during this time. A particular family s living conditions is described: It was in the cellars under the poultry market that they found a way of continuing to sleep together. Near the slaughtering blocks were some big baskets of feather in which they could stretch out... Usually they would drag their basket away from the gaslight; they were alone in the strong smell of poultry, kept awake by the sudden crowning of the cocks in the dark (Zola 161). This couple went to what seems to be the ends of the earth to find a somewhat comfortable sleeping situation, although it is still very bad. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. The Movie In A Grove By Akira Kurosawa Rashomon was released in 1950, and is the work of esteemed Japanese director Akira Kurosawa. Rashomon was only the second film directed by Kurosawa, but it is by far his most popular and influential piece of work. Kurosawa worked closely with cinematographer Kazup Miyagawa to create this film, which was based on Ryunosuke Akytagawa s short story In a Grove . The film was the first of its kind to create a plot device that is now commonly used, and referred to as the RashomonEffect . The film tells the story of one terrible rape and murder through the eyes and perspectives of four different characters. All four characters have their own account for what they saw in the woods, and all stories contradict one another in a way that prevents viewers from truly knowing what happened in the woods. When Rashomon won the top prize at the 1950 Venice Film Festival it legitimized Japanese films as viable commercial entities in foreign markets, and established, once and for all, that the country s austere approach to storytelling could be understood by viewers in the West (Tatara). This film was a breakthrough for Japanese cinema, as well as Kurosawa s directing career. The story begins with a samurai and his wife travelling through Japan, the woman on horseback and her husband walking alongside of her. They encounter a known bandit named Tajomaru, who is known for violence and lust. What happens next is recounted via a conversation between three men; a woodcutter, a priest, and a ... People and nations have traded their product from one country to another and many nations have enjoyed the easy way of exchanging of goods and services without restrictions. However, after the world war one Free trade has been crippled due to free trade restrictions called trade protections. Trade protectionism is defined as the use of government regulations to limit the import of goods and services. (Williams kinicki. P 117).One of main trade protectionism is the use of tariffs. Tariffs are form of trade barrier by which government or countries tax on imported goods and services. In America and around the world trade protectionism has been widely used because anti free trade believes that it will save jobs and stabilized the economy. On the other hand, pro free trade is not considering trade protection as beneficial but rather impairing overall trading atmosphere. Aim The purpose of this investigation is to investigate how certain factors affect the catalytic decomposition of Hydrogen peroxide. I will investigate the effect of altering the mass of catalyst used on the rate of the decomposition of Hydrogen peroxide. Introduction The decomposition of Hydrogen peroxide is a process by which Hydrogen peroxide decomposes into water and Oxygen. It has the following equation: 2H2O2 (l) 2H2O (l) + O2 (g) This reaction does occur spontaneously at room temperature with the presence of Ultraviolet light; however only very slowly. It occurs far faster when a catalyst is used. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This lowers the rate of reaction due to the lower concentration (as explained in the variables section). Once a Hydrogen peroxide molecule has decomposed it is no longer a consideration and cannot decompose again as it is no longer a Hydrogen peroxide molecule. This lowers the numbers of Hydrogen peroxide molecules present lowering the concentration thus lowering the rate of reaction, eventually lowering the rate of reaction to nil where all (or virtually all) Hydrogen peroxide molecules have decomposed. At this point no more products are produced as no more Hydrogen peroxide is reacting, as no more Hydrogen peroxide is colliding with catalyst particles, because it has all decomposed. In this graph a higher concentration results in a higher rate of reaction whilst the reaction is proceeding (until the rate of reaction for all concentrations reaches 0) and a higher mass of product produced. This is because the increased chance of collisions with the catalyst, due to the increased number and density of the Hydrogen peroxide, means at the start of the reaction there are more collisions with the catalyst leading to a higher initial rate of reaction. I believe this rate of reaction will be proportional to the concentration as by increasing the concentration a certain amount you increase the number of molecules present by a proportional amount. You therefore also increase the chance of collision with the catalyst due to increased ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The curriculum covers the participation and influences in the market place , and the students will learn how resources are allocated through market exchange and the role of consumers, producers and the government in a market economy (School Curriculum and Standards Authority [SCSA], n.d.). The primary goal of these two lessons is to explain why well defined private property rights and the enforcement of law by the government are key to market exchange. The first lesson uses the Indigenous Australian s deprivation from wages in WA from late 19th century to 1970s as a case study to examine the importance of basic labour right protection. The concept can then be generalized and applied to private property rights as the foundation of a market economy. The second lesson proceeds to discuss the role of the government in a market economy. We pay for this through taxes, but the question that we must ask ourselves is are we getting what we are paying for? By paying our taxes to the government we are giving it the authority to choose the service we are getting back. The Policeand Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (PACE) is an Act of Parliament which instituted a legislative framework for the powers of police officers in England and Wales to combat crime, as well as providing codes of practice for the exercise of those powers. PACE sets out to strike the right balance between the powers of the police and the rights and freedoms of the public. Maintaining that balance is a central element of PACE. These powers have been given to the police to insure our safety however how much power the police really hold is limited by the PACE, the police must carry out their duty without breaching the rights of individuals. the question of whether or not these rights should be abolished is a debatable one. The police stop and search power first came about in 1984 the aim of this act was to protect the rights of the public from the misconduct of police officers. some may argue that they are still not protected by this act.Scottish ministers are under renewed pressure to abolish controversial police stop and search powers, after United Nations human rights experts said they were potentially breaching international law. Robert Cialdini And His Colleagues Essay Robert Cialdini and his colleagues (1976) introduced and formalized the social psychological phenomenon called basking in reflected glory (BIRG), recognizing how individuals tend to increase their identification with a person or group with whom they share a preexisting ingroup identity when the latter has succeeded in an endeavor that brings group pride. Social identitytheory is typically invoked to explain how the phenomenon is manifested through ingroup affiliation and self enhancement. Though BIRG as a phenomenon has been found to be replicable across cultures, its determinants and manifestations nonetheless vary cross culturally. Through the current literature review that aims to integrate the results of previous studies, it is found that the noninstrumental nature of ingroup identification and the increase in association with a successful other are cross culturally similar. However, the construal of social identity and the achievements that become a source of ingroup pride are significantly determined by a country s historical and economic milieu, while the characteristics of self enhancement (on both ascribed group and self esteem) are informed by the values and expectations set forth by the culture to which basking individuals belong. Furthermore, Schuler and Jackson (as cited in Esteves Caetano, 2010) state that the focal point of success of companies today is centered on the effective use of human resources. In today s knowledge based economy, innovation has become the principal source of competitive advantages in global business; the success of firms now depends more on their intelligence capability such as employee creativity than traditional material assets (Amabile et al., as cited in Zhou, Zhang Montoro SГЎnchez, 2011). The creative capability of individual and collective knowledge workers is the fuel that powers innovation in firms. While creativity leads to the production of new and useful ideas in any domain, innovation is the successful implementation of those creative ideas within an organization (McLean, as cited in Zhou, Zhang Montoro Sanchez 2011). In highly dynamic business environments, innovation and creativity have become crucial for creating competitive advantages for the firm. People are the most vital resource of an innovative organization, and all innovation based firms, in order to succeed, have to learn how to manage, motivate and reward their people (Gupta and Singhal, as cited in Zhou, Zhang Montoro Sanchez 2011). These nonfiction articles take different stances on food in the twenty first century. Pollan s approach is to warn consumers about processed foods and to guide them into a healthier lifestyle while McCorkle describes her junk food addiction with stories that highlight the artificial foods people are so quick to love. Malcolm and his friends Jib and Diggy are nerdy high school seniors who bond over anything 90s related, play music together in their punk band, and have grown up together in The Bottoms, in Inglewood, California. Malcolm was trying to escape a gang one day when he had an encounter with a neighborhood drug dealer named Dom. Dom ended up invited him to his birthday party, and with hesitation, Malcolm and his friends decide to go. After an eventful night, Malcolm and his friends later discover that Dom had stashed a handgun and a large amount of drugs in his backpack to hide it from the police who raided the party. The rest of the movie plays out into a war over the drugs that Malcolm accidentally possessed. Malcolm ends up selling the drugs and promises Dom s prominent supplier, who was also coincidentally Malcolm s college interviewer, the profits made from the drugs. Malcolm makes this deal with him only as long as he helps Malcolm achieve his goal of getting into Harvard.
