Little Army Ants Research Paper
ants have undergone an interesting history as they evolved from their wasp ancestors. Ants control
most of the ecosystems they inhabit. Ants were the first to dominate the land and the air we breath

Is Space Exploration Worth The Cost Essay
Your world is as big as you make it . Georgia Douglas Johnson once said in her poem Your World
. Space exploration allows America to generate a great amount of money. If America continues
space exploration, new discoveries can be made. Greater wealth and new discoveries could and
will better America. This is why space explorationis worth the cost.
To start with, space exploration generates great wealth for America. Economic, scientific, and
technological returns of space have far exceeded the investment , said Dr. Joan Vernikos ( Is Space
Exploration Worth the Cost 29 31). Space exploration does cost quite a bit but, the benefits greatly
out number the cost. In 2007, NASA s budget of $16.3 billion is a minute fraction of the $13
trillion total G.D.P. , said Dr. Joan Vernikos. Space explorations budget is so limited, yet so much
comes out of it. So in other words, Space exploration is risky and does cost money but the benefits
are phenominiall. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his Remarks At the Areospace Medical Center speech, J.F.K states, Medical space research
may open up a new understandings of man s relationship to his environment . Space exploration
could and will give the U.S many (medical) discoveries and advances. Space exploration gives
the U.S access to many resources (like minerals) and alternate habitats, if needed. Dr. Vernikos
states Our ability to explore and sustain human presence there will not only expand earth s access
to mineral resources, but should the need arise, provide alternate habitats for humanity s survival (
Is Space Exploration Worth the Cost Lines 25 28). Space exploration could allow the U.S to
discover new history changing things as well as give us access to resources (such as minerals) and
alternate habitats, this will give the U.S everlasting benefits, that others countries maybe even the

Essay on Text Talk in Studentsв
Ђ™ Formal Writing
Several decades ago, Ain t ain t a word was a favorite litany of English teachers everywhere, and
they sang it whenever that offending word cropped up in a student s speech or writing. Today,
however, ain t is a word firmly entrenched in dictionaries, nonstandard, but a word nonetheless.
Now, looming on the horizon is something which may make language arts teachers long for the
days of ain t text talk. Text talk, or text speak, is the language of abbreviations, acronyms, and
emoticons people use when communicating through short message service (SMS) on their cell
phones, or when instant messagingand emailing each other, and it is beginning to creep into
students formal writing. Teachers, not just language arts teachers, hate seeing... Show more content

In talking with teens, Donna Alvermann (2007) found even those who claim they strongly dislike
writing and never write outside school write entire paragraphs while texting, and some even create
alternate identities for different chat rooms, thus engaging in creative writing. Teens prefer to text
their ideas and feelings because it is less risky than speaking them, and Alvermann suggests content
area teachers can capitalize on that.
Teaching through Texting Language is not static; it grows and develops, and, like ain t, such
textisms as LOL (laughing out loud) and BRB (be right back) may someday become acceptable
English. Young people already speak many of their text talk abbreviations. The fact of the matter
is the technology that spurred the development of this new language is here to stay, which means
text talk is here to stay, and taking a hard line on keeping it out of the classroom is a losing battle.
It is a losing battle teachers don t have to fight because they can harness the potential of text talk as
a teaching tool. Kristen Hawley Turner (2009) advocates using text talk to teach students how to
consciously code switch, or switch back and forth between informal and formal English usage. She
and her graduate students developed an enjoyable lesson they call Flip the Switch which they use to
teach code switching and, in the end, make it

Impact Of Corporate Social Responsibility On A Company s...
To what extent is Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) beneficial to a company s performance?
Sub prompt: Evaluate how CSR can be beneficial to company s financial performance.
1. Introduction Corporate social responsibility (CSR) has become more influential when making
company s decisions. 53% of the S P, an index based on market capitalizations of 500 U.S.
companies, has published CSR reports in 2012 as compared to 19% in 2011. An approach,
suggested by Business for Social Responsibility, considers CSR as attaining commercial success
through respecting people, community and the natural environment. McWilliams Siegel (2011)
added that CSR are actions that far beyond the company s interests and the minimum requirement
by the law. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Section three comments the limitations of empirical findings and CSR.
2. Impacts on Financial Performance
2.1 Cost Companies committed to CSR are expected to reduce operating costs. One of the key
areas in CSR practices is paying attention to environmental issues such as energy saving and
avoidance of excessive use of inputs. The promotion of resource efficiency including using less
energy and water lower the utility costs. Nonetheless, a reduction in the use of packaging materials
helps to reduce production cost.
Brand equity has been viewed as the most crucial intangible assets of the company. Cornell and
Shapiro (1987) suggested that the firms are able to establish reputation capital if they adopt
CSR measures. Customers are more willing to spend on products that are produced by
companies with good brand images. An adverse example has illustrated the importance of brand
image with the scandal of Primark, a well known fast fashion clothing chains. The clothing
retailer is found to break its code of conducts and employ illegal workers in poor working
conditions. When BBC revealed the dishonored behavior, it cost Primark millions of dollars in
information and advertising campaigns to restore consumer loyalty. It implies that a socially
responsible firm that follows CSR practices can have less risk of negative rare events and thus
avoid unnecessary cost.
2.2 Revenue A numerous empirical findings have revealed a positive correlation between

Jnc s Six Subsections
The following section is broken into six subsections that will assess how each topic relates to JNC
6, 7, and 8. The subsections are organized into the following: algorithms, classification of
hypertension, lifestyle modifications, pharmacological treatment, and management of care. It is
important to note that JNC 6 and 7 have a greater correlation in format and the types of
recommendations presented to clinicians. Contrastingly JNC 8 varies in format, as well as the type
of recommendations presented to clinicians, therefore each of the subsections may not contain
information on JNC 8.

lifestyle interventions should be continued throughout management. Goal blood pressures are
separated by age and presence of chronic disease. The goal for patients over 60 is SBP 150
mmHg and DBP 90 mmHg. The goal for patients under 60 is 140 mmHg and DBP 90 mmHg.
Different goal values are presented for patients with chronic conditions. Treatment with medication
is categorized by: general population nonblack, general population black, chronic conditions
black, and chronic condition all races. Based on the algorithm black patients should only be
prescribed thiazide type diuretics and/or calcium channel blockers. While non black patients can
take all of the medications listed in JNC 8 (thiazide type diuretics, ACEI, ARB, and/or CCB). If
patient does not reach goal blood pressure then three strategies are listed, along with lifestyle
adherence. The algorithm also explains not to use ACEI and ARB together. The final option for
patients not at goal blood pressure includes additional medications and/or referral to physician with

Toni Cade Bambara’s Black Female Champions Essay
Toni Cade Bambara s Black Female Champions
It is well known from historical accounts, novels, poems, movies, and other sources that blacks have
been abused, neglected, and mistreated in American society. In addition, a great deal has been
written about the lives, hardships, and obstacles of black men.
Black women, however, have long been relegated to subordinate societal roles in relation to white
men and women and black men. Black women have been viewed as monsters and suffered
distortions of their image. Toni Cade Bambara, in her writings, has helped to change the image of
black women. Bambara presents a very descriptive picture of what life was like for blacks,

Charlie s bed (83).
The following statistics illustrate Ms. Lincoln s point. According to the Statistical Abstract of the
United States: 1996, in 1983, 512,000 individuals were employed as cleaners and servants. Of that
total, 95.8% were female. Black females comprised 42.4% of the total of all females working in
those occupations (407). In the category of maids and housemen, in 1983, 531,000 individuals
provided these services. Females made up 83.1% of the total. Black females comprised 32.3% of
the total of all females working as maids (407).
Toni Cade Bambara was very aware of the black environment and of black female experiences. In
the foreword to the book Black Women Writers at Work, Tillie Olsen states that black women
writers, such as Toni Cade Bambara, make us profoundly conscious of what harms, degrades,
denies development, destroys; of how much is unrealized, unlived; instead of oppressed victims,
they tell of the ways of resistances, resiliences (x xi).
Bambara was born in New York City, raised by her mother, and educated at Queens College. She
was a teacher, lecturer, and political activist ( Bambara, Toni Cade ). In an interview with Beverly
Guy Sheftall, Bambara talked about her life, her family, and the issues of the black race, women,
and her writings (230 49). Bambara stated in the interview that she was not raised to

Analysis of the Bacchae
To this day scholars offer a number of different interpretations of Euripides The Bacchae. This
essay will argue the centrality of sophia (wisdom) and its opposite amathia , similar to the
interpretation offered by Arrowsmith and Dodds: that the central idea of The Bacchae is that
wisdom possession of humility, acceptance and self knowledge, encompassed by the Greek word
sophia is the greatest and most necessary quality humanity can possess in the face of godly power.
In particular this essay will focus on how the central idea is communicated through the convergence
of characters and dialogue in Euripides The Bacchae.
The Bacchae explores the necessity of wisdom and acceptance, as it looks at the conflict between

Hence the messenger s speeches are crucial as they drive the plot forward. However the
messenger is also able to comment on scenes he describes, and in doing so exhibits a form of
sophia . He sees the power of the maenads first hand and understands the terrible greatness of
Dionysus and urges Pentheus to accept the god: sire, welcome him to Thebes. For he is great... He
too exhibits the wisdom of Cadmus and Teiresias, the sophia of understanding the need for
acceptance, and the dangers of denying a deity.
Another essential group of characters in The Bacchae is the chorus, as within Greek plays the
chorus often operated as a popular voice in support of the play s central idea. Their songs often
explain important points, and it s clear in The Bacchae the songs of the Bacchante chorus uphold
sophia as the trait most honourable in humanity. As Dionysus exits to convince Pentheus to dress
is women s clothes, the stage is left to the chorus, and they sing: what is wisdom? What gift of
the gods is held in honour like this... Wisdom is described as a gift from the gods sanctioned
amongst men, and thus it is most wise to honour those gods. He who fails to recognise that
humility is wise, humility is blessed, fails to recognise the greatest quality he can possess in the
face of godly power. Thus it is clear that the characters of The Bacchae are essential in conveying
the central idea, as

I believe this is already known but I picked Italy for my alternate assignment I learned a few
things about her current culture there is some things I like and some I do not. For example,
they are very family oriented, and when their parents become too old to work they do not stick
them in a nursing home like too many people in the States do. they would take care of them the
rest of their lives. I for one care about my own family very deeply so I feel a connection of sorts
with Italians I would do the same or at least something similar. One of the things I sort of don t like
is they are easy going, and don t care if they are on time or late. Now it is good to take it easy and

The Causes And Consequences Of Class Conflict Between The...
Marx s conflict theory has a very distinct ideology, it is stated that it mainly focuses on the causes
and consequences of class conflict between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat. The Bourgeoisie
represented the members of a higher society which held onto the majority of the wealth and means

was constructed by individuals who belong to the working class or the poor. Focusing on the
economic, social, and political implications of the rise of capitalism in Europe. With the rise of

Analysis Of Rebecca West s The Return Of The Soldier
In Rebecca West s novel, The Return of the Soldier the reader is introduced to a man named Chris
Baldry who suffers from shell shock fighting in the war. When he returns home, he has no
recollection of the past fifteen years of his life. What he remembers, is being in love with a woman
named Margaret, the daughter of an innkeeper. However, what he inevitably comes home to is a
wife named Kitty and a cousin named Jenny who have been earnestly awaiting his return. Although
West portrays Chris to be a victim so to speak within the novel due to his amnesia, the real
trauma that he would experience was awaiting him at home, back at Baldry Court. Chris return
would lead to a major upset in the lives of the women in his life, but for himself as well despite
the fact he cannot account for a little over a decade of his past.
When Chris returns home, West makes it abundantly clear through the accounts of all of the
characters that he is not the man he was when he left to fight in the war. His own cousin Frank
even says, I never realized the horror of warfare until I saw my cousin... (pg. 40). Even Jenny
admits that he doesn t seem to be the same when she admits, By nights I saw Chris running
across the brown rottenness of No Man s Land, starting back here because he trod upon a hand,
not even looking there because of the awfulness of an unburied head... (pg. 7). The shell shock he
experiences causes him to lose not only parts of his past, but parts of himself as well. However,

Data Warehouse And Data Warehousing
Introduction
The data collection company has a huge collection of data generally goes into terabytes. Data
warehouse is the only option Though not much structured like relational databases but when used
in line with them, data warehouse turns out to be a huge help. Every moment, a single page visit
generates thousands of records to be saved. Data may get outdated but it cannot be deleted as few
months down the line, it will be used for analysis. This analysis generated future prospects of
business. And this analysis depends on how the data is collected and how efficiently it be arranged
to give clear picture for analysis.
Being a CIO of the company I had to look for data warehouse vendor which can enhance our

and finally delivering it to business users. The data stored in these warehouses must be stored in a
way which is reliable, secure, and easy to process and manage. The need for data warehousing
arises as businesses become more complex and start generating and gathering huge amount of data
which were difficult to manage in the traditional way.
A more detailed analysis of the need for Data Warehousing is as follows:
Data Integration
An enterprise data is large and complex and spread out through a variety of different in house and
external systems. Also there is a need to analyze the data across different systems by location,
time and channel. Hence the data integration is needed here so that all the data organized and
stored in one location. It also cuts down time and the lengthy process involved in generation of
reports because a series of steps involved in it which are stripping and extraction of data from one
source and then sorting and merging of data and then enriching the data by

witnessing first hand, your children suffering and you can t do anything for them, imagine living
day to day in fear and not knowing whether today or tomorrow would be the last day of you or your

Some critical issues associated with childhood stunting are impaired cognitive development,
reduced intellectual performance, and reduced job productivity in the future. Stunting has major
effects on children all over the world and if it is not treated at an early age, the effects are
irreversible (Huicho). From pre conception to the first two years of life, it is crucial for a child to
get the proper nutrients essential for their development:
One of the serious consequences of stunting is particularly impaired cognitive development. When
a child has inadequate access to food, their body conserves energy by first limiting social activity
and cognitive development in the form of apathetic and incurious children. These children may not
develop the capacity to adequately learn or play. Then the child s body will limit the energy
available for growth (Zusy).
Malnutrition is one of the major causes of childhood stunting.
In a study conducted in West Madura Island, Indonesia, supplementation of lipid based nutrient
supplements were found to prevent stunting in six to twelve month old infants. The researchers
chose to study children of this age range due to the fact that it s the age where children go from
being breastfed to being fed solids. It is crucial for children at the listed age to get the proper
nutrients they need when they undergo the transition. The study was Conducted on one hundred
and sixty eight infants in Indonesia who received either the lipid

A Hero’s Breakdown Essay
Ideas abound of what true heroism is in this day and age. To some, a true hero may be the person
that led their favorite sports team to a championship. To others, true heroes are the doctors that
helped a loved one get better from a serious illness. Some even see the person that gives them
inspiration on a day to day basis as a true hero. To many, however, a true hero is so much more
than that. To many, a true hero is the one that goes the extra mile t follow a strict moral code, both
at home and in the public eye. A true hero is the one who will stand up for what he or she believes

The values that his children learn from him help them to become good and upstanding citizens
of Maycomb, while giving them a better understanding of the world and why things happen the
way that they do. If no one else s, he is definitely Scout and Jem s hero (Santos 210). Atticus has
a strong understanding of the nature of humans, and that sets him apart from all the rest of
Maycomb. He knows that what he is doing for Tom Robinson is not going to be well received by
his community, and he knows why they are so against him (Powell). The people of Maycomb are
scared of a coming change, and he understands where they are coming from. His refusal to give up

For the African American population, times were especially hard. They knew that there was no

Cilia Function
Cilia are organelles protruding from body cells, consisting of microtubules. These structures are
important for hemostasis and cell development. Along with a group of proteins called kinesins
superfamily proteins (KSFs), the cilia also play an important role in SHH signaling. The proteins
found in this family serve a variety of functions relating to microtubule regulation, such as KIF4A
and KIF21A. KIF4A controls microtubule length during celldivision, whereas KIF21A inhibits
microtubule growth at the cell cortex. A prominent member of this family is the proteinKIF7, a
homologue of the protein Costal2 (Cos2) found in Drosophila and zebrafish. Both serve relatively
similar functions with relation to the Hh signaling pathway, though there... Show more content on

The level of activity of Gli genes, and thus Hh pathway activation, determines skin tumor
phenotype: high level signaling is shown to result in BCC and low level signaling is shown to
result in follicular derived tumors such as basaloid follicular hamartoma (BFH) (2). Gli2 is
involved in the expression of cell cycle regulation genes in the Shh pathway such as E2F1,
CCND1, CDC2 and epidermal differential genes. Over expression of Gli2 causes the up
regulation of such cell cycle regulation genes in developing hair follicles. Shh activation most
specifically promotes degradation of the p53 tumor suppressor gene (2), thus repressing
transcription of p21, a key suppressor of cyclin E in cell cycle regulation. Thus, G1 arrest is
overrode, and the inability to control cell cycle is promoted: a key feature of cancer. Sufu and Kif7
have overlapping functions in regulating Gli transcription factors. Specifically, Gli2 forms a
complex with Sufu to prevent transcriptional activity via preventing accumulation of Gli2
transcriptional factors into the nucleus, thus repressing Hh pathway transduction (3). Sufu also
plays a role in stabilizing Gli2 by blocking Spop, an E3 ligase involved in degradation of Gli2 (3).
In keratinocytes, Kif7

Advantages Of The Maghrib
The modernization of the Maghrib was not beneficial to the culture and modernization of North
Africa. Although there were benefits relating to the architectural upgrades and the spread of ideas
about politics and the modern world, the forcing of the French culture, division between religions,
and the external French motivations were overall not beneficial. The Maghrib is a section of North
Africathat includes Morocco, Algeria, Tunisiaand sometimes parts of Libya. Specifically, Algeria
was very important to this region as well as the French who tried to colonize and modernize this
region. Along with Tunisia, whose impacts from the French are shown through the travels and
experiences of Khayr al Din. Ever since the beginning of the French colonization efforts, the natives
of the Maghrib were weary of the concept. The French true motivations are evidenced through their
new implementation of laws, cultural integration, and disregard for the religious groups of the
region.
Originally, the Maghrib architecture was distinctly North African, simple in design, and including
ornate mosques. Fez is a grand example of the architecture region and all that it has to offer. The
mallah section of Fez involves a lot of traditional North African architecture along with Jewish
cultural influences. Although the architecture in this region was stunningly beautiful, when the
French came in they upgraded a lot of buildings and public areas. Consequently, the region has a
gorgeous mix of French colonial and native architecture. A great example of this resides in a town
square where there is a mosque in the center and beautiful French colonial architecture surrounding
the rest of the square in Algeria. The French influenced architecture as small as the lamp posts and
as big as the grand, efficient highways. Due to this, the roadways and general design and
architecture of the region was an incredible blend of ancient North African and modern French
architecture.
The French did not try to fully push their ideas upon the natives of the Maghrib, but instead brought
their ideas with them and let the ideas assimilate with the natives to the degree the natives allowed
it to. As stated in the Colonial Mythologies article, the idea was

Benzocaine And 9-Fluorenone Lab Report
In order to isolate benzoic acid, benzocaine and 9 fluorenone, each component needed to be
separated from one another. All three compounds began together in one culture tube, dissolved in
methylene chloride and formed into a homogenous mixture. In this culture tube, two milliliters of
aqueous three molar hydrochloric acidwas added, which immediately formed two layers, the top
acidic aqueous layer was clear in color and contained benzocaine, and the bottom organic formed
was yellow and contained benzoic acidand 9 fluorenone. Benzocaine s amino group is protonated
by the aqueous layer hydronium. This protonation forms the conjugate acid of benzocaine,
benzocaine hydrochloride. Thus, the conjugate acid, benzocaine hydrochloride is a salt in which is
soluble in water and furthermore can be isolated from the organic mixture. When testing out the pH
levels in benzocaine, the pH test strip was dark blue in color, indicating a pH level of around 5
to 7. When isolating benzoic acid, two milliliters of aqueous three molar sodium hydroxide was
added, which deprotonates the carboxylic group in benzoic acid, forming its conjugate base,
sodium benzoate. As with benzocaine hydrochloride, sodium benzoate is a water soluble ionic
salt in the aqueous layer that can then be separated from the bottom organic layer containing the
9 fluorenone. The pH test strip was a vibrant red for benzoic acid, indicating a pH of 2. Now the 9
fluorenone is left, deionized water is added to remove any excess

Emergency Medical Technician Program Essay
Regarding the Emergency Medical Technician program, we announced changes at EMC. The
change included the need for an additional day of training (from three to four days) peer EMT
refresher. This change affects the plan in place that stated a member would be able to perform a
UTA reschedule on a Sunday following the refresher provided it was the same quarter. The effort
was made to minimize the staffing effect on Saturday clinic. However, even with the success of the
past couple of cycles, this change is out of our hands.
The issue was addressed during the past UTA training meeting. On the table included...
1.Looking into making the two days or all four as AT
2.Reschedule a Sunday on the front and on the back end of the Apr or Aug dates
3.Reschedule a two day UTA and support the clinic with CCATT and ancillary agents
After discussing the options, to ensure legality, with TSgt Edwards. I would like to make my
recommendation and provide reasoning. Each 4N0XX member is required to maintain one EMT
refresher per two year cycle. EMT refresher does not count towards CEUs the first time taken, but a
member may sit in a session after and earn CEU credit. That means a near even split of 30 40
members needing the refresher per year. Further thinning those numbers across two sessions mean
approximately 15 members each. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This year the cycle is tied to the Mar super UTA and the May MEDBEACH UTA. In order to
achieve training and fit the guidelines of AFI 36 2254 we would have members attending

attend all training available as well as stay within the quarter window. One added consideration
pointed out by TSgt Edwards is any member with a prior excusal 40A may be converted to EQT

work the best for our rocket. Our hypothesis was that the ogive nose cone shape would work the
best to eliminate drag. To do our experiment we had 5 different nose cones and tested them on a
rocket three times each measuring how high the rocket went each time with an altimeter. The nose
cone that we found worked the best was the conical nose cone. The ones that were the worst were
the blunt and ogive having only a small difference between the average height flown. The conical
nose cone was the only nose cone that had any significant difference and was barely one

DNA Replicaiton Cause Cancer Essay
Part A : Defects in DNA Replication Cause Cancer
I.Introduction
As known today, cancer is one of the most lethal diseases in the world. Millions of people died
every year caused by various type of cancer, but the concern is that what does really caused the
cancer itself? Is it because of the lifestyle people have nowadays? Or because of environment that
has changed? Or even sometimes because of the flaw in the replication of DNA? There are lots of
probabilities to cause cancer.
In this section, we will discuss about how does DNA replication could end to cause cancer.
II.Replication of DNA
DNA replication is a process to create two identical molecules of DNA by unification of the DNA
on the parent DNA (DNA template). New DNA strands... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Well, there is a lot of factor leading to cancer. But there are some major factor that have take a
big part in causing cancer to human. Major causes why cancer happened in human is because of
consumption of tobacco and was found in 1964 as the biggest factor that lead to lung cancer by
US surgeon (Anand et al., 2008). Other big factor that proved caused of cancer is a lot of alcohol
drinking.
Alcohol consumption is an established risk factor for cancers of the mouth, pharynx, larynx,
esophagus, liver, colorectum, and female breast, and there is some evidence of an association with
pancreatic cancer (The American Cancer Society, 2011).
Radiation risked human to cancer. That comes with the fact that one of the most common cancer is
caused by radiation, it could be because of some common radiation in example UV (ultraviolet)
light, X ray, etc.
Exposure to UV radiation is a major risk for various types of skin cancers including basal cell
carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma (Anand et al., 2008).
Diet also lead people to cancer, consumption of red meat in big amount with specific amount of time
could lead to intestine cancer. Nitrates and nitrites in meat interfere botulinic exotoxin production in
the body (Divisi, Tommaso, Salvemini, Garramone, Crisci, 2006).
People who are obese have a higher risk of cancer than the normal people are.

Reaction Paper On Octopi
I have been fascinated by the intelligence and resourcefulness shown by octopi for the past few
weeks since I went scuba diving. The main purpose of this trip was to be able to learn more about
octopi in their natural habitat, as I had been given an assignment regarding the morality of
consuming octopi. I was given the opportunity to fully observe the complexity of octopi in their
natural habitat. I realized these animals capabilities people fear these almost harmless animals? In
the past, I truly enjoyed the savory taste of a variety of octopusinspired meals. Many people
disregard the octopus, giving it little to no thought unless there is a debate for dinner. Thinking of it
as another average creature, as I did, with little to no intelligence, this is a common misconception
that is meant to give some kind of justification when consuming the animal. In reality, octopi are
one of the most intelligent species, having highly developed sentient characteristics. The more
research I did regarding the octopus, the more my personal moral dilemma shifted to the support of

food or childish cartoons. Most pictures found in the English language are more serious, showing
octopi in their natural state; sadly the same cannot be said for the lobster. Many restaurants in
western society cause the octopus unimaginable amounts of pain, some even provide the octopus

Allied Strategic Bombing Analysis
Strategic bombing is a military strategy used in total war, deployed with the goal of defeating the
enemy, by destroying their morale or their economic ability to produce and transport material to the
theatres of military operations. The four areas in which the significance of Allied strategic bombing
will be assessed are: economic, diplomacy, morale and the effect it had on the fighting fronts in
Europe.
The First area of strategic bombing to be assessed is the effect it had on scattering the German
military from their posted Fronts and the destruction of the Luftwaffe. The bombing raids on
Germany drew defenses that were positioned on the Eastern Front and in other areas to try and
counter the incoming Allie aircraft. German anti tank defenses ... Show more content on

It was only due to the collaboration between the British, the Russians and US; the third Front
could be created. The third front tightened the relationship between the Allie countries and from
then was able to work together in attempts to defeat the Nazis regime. Strategic bombing was
only instigated because Churchill, who was already a major supporter of bombing, and
Roosevelt did not want to re create the horrors from bombing civilians in the form of terror
bombing from World War two. As well Stalin wanted a third front to keep pressured, menacing
attacks on Germany, so a new front enabled a workload shift from the Russians to the rest of the
Allies air force. The Casablanca conference, 21 January 1943 was a turning point in the
effectiveness of allied bombing against Germany. At Casablanca, Churchill and Roosevelt agreed to
give the heaviest bombing offensive against the German war machine. The combined leaders issued
an order to the air forces to bring about the destruction and dislocation of the German Military,
industrial and economic system and the undermining of the morale. This was done by the technique
called Unconditional Surrender. This means that the winner of the war is eligible to control the
enemies land and borders, and the defeated is given nothing. Diplomacy was the factor that
controlled the bombing raids through the war. This increased the significance of bombing for

Compare And Contrast Pluto And Charon s Orbit
With the new dates and photographs from the New Horizons mission (http://clapway.com/2015/07
/11/new horizons journey through the cosmos 124/) that made a flyby of Pluto on Tuesday, July
14th, scientists are now reporting that, unlike the earth and the moon s orbit, Pluto and Charon s
orbit is much different. It s so different in fact, that it is the only instance of this orbit in the Sol
solar system.
What s the difference?
The data from the mission revealed new information about both Pluto and Charon. It was found that
Pluto is only somewhere around 8 ВЅ times more massive than its moon Charon. On top of this,
Pluto and Charon are only 12,200 miles (19,634 km) apart. To put this in perspective, Earth is
about 81 times more massive than the moon and are 238,900 miles (384,472 km) apart. Because
the differences in mass are so minute and because they are so close, Charon doesn t actually orbit
around Pluto. In reality, Pluto and Charon have what is known as a binary system, and this is the
only orbit of its kind in our solar system.
What this means is that the small difference of masses and the close proximity causes both cosmic
bodies to pull on each other, creating a gravitational point between the two that Pluto and Charon
both orbit. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is very similar to how our moon was formed (http://www.space.com/29047 how moon

are almost too different for that theory to be viable. Pluto is very rocky and has a very thick
atmosphere while Charon is made of about as much ice as it is rock and has no atmosphere at all.
There are nitrogen, methane, and carbon monoxide ices on Pluto, but Charon mainly has water
and ammonia ice. As of now, it is clear that the two bodies have been together for billions of years,
yet they are so incredibly

The Similarities Between Thomas Nast And Political Cartoons
During many interesting time periods of American history, news about impactful events were not
only communicated to the people through the radio or news articles. In fact an even more
intriguing medium was used to serve this purpose, Thomas nast was an illustrator that made
comics. In the current day, there are still many cartoons made about the American Government.
This form of news telling attracts a massive amount of people because of how much more
engaging it makes news. Thomas Nast made huge contributions to making the news entertaining,
he did his art on presidents, wars, and sometimes how we treat foreign countries. He arrived in
New York at the age of six, from Germany, and started illustrator for Harper s weekly. Harper s

Two months had passed and it had still been the same routine. Westley was just hoping that he

The manager was running around frantically like a fox chasing after a rabbit and everyone else
either stood horrified or ran out of the mill. One thought came to Westley s mind: his friends! He
didn t know where they were or what had happened. All he knew is that both Thomas and Richard
worked on machines. He started to run around frantically.
Thomas! Richard! He shouted running through the mill.
Then he saw it. Lying there on the floor was Thomas. Richard was on his knee pressing on Thomas
chest. He inched forward terrified. Thomas was blue and he lay there stiffer than a log. Westley had
just come up to Thomas when the manager, who almost no one knew anything about including his
name, pushed him out of the way. The manager stared hitting Thomas chest until a look of sudden
realization fell upon his face.

Witch Hunts of the Early Modern Period as the Result of Religious and Social Upheaval
The Early Modern Period was a time of great change in and around Europe. The people of the age
were faced with upheaval of all forms; religious, social, political and even economical.
Religious upheaval stemmed from changes in religious views and practises. The Reformation was a
hugely significant event that took place in the years spanning 1520 1650. It was a religious, and
political, movement in Europe that began as an attempt to reform the Roman Catholic Church, but
ended in the establishment of Protestantism and Protestant churches. The aim of the reformers was

Without doubt, everyone s religious ideas were being influenced and changed by what was going
on around them. Concerning these changes, the Reformation caused a distinct change in the
beliefs of the devil amongst the Protestant formers. Roman Catholics believed in the devil but
had always believed they could defeat him, and had certain ways of protecting themselves from
Satan s wickedness. In the Catholic faith, it was common to deploy supernatural weapons against
the devil, such as candles and holy water. The weapons were thought to offer protection against
evil spirits, and as Darren Oldridge comments in his book; The Devil and the Reformation , even
the ringing of church bells was accepted as protection against flying demons. Catholics believed
that their traditional rituals such as these protected them from the evils of the devil and therefore
they weren t as scared of him as they could have been, these magical rituals that helped them face
him. Consequently, with the Reformation, the reformers decision to reject the practises of the
Roman Catholic faith resulted in them losing these magical rituals that had protected people from,
and defeated , the devil for so many years. Protestants believed that a person could not do
anything to earn the love of God and therefore lived in devote prayer, and worked extremely hard

Blindness And Socialism
Blindness
Blindness by Jose Saramago is a piece that shows many examples of political ideologies. The two
most prominent being conservatism and socialism. Now, Jose Saramago being a prominent
believer in the ideas of socialism as a whole, it is no surprise that his book Blindness includes
many scenes that portray, in favor, the fundamental concepts of socialist beliefs. This includes the
variety of the people who were blinded and the cooperation and organization of the main party
involved. But, it is interesting to point out that he also includes examples of the beliefs of
conservatism but also scenes where he criticizes it. This can be shown in scenes like when the food
starts being stolen in quarantine and in the rise in the leadership of the man with the gun.
A concept of socialism is that everyone should be equal and that there should be no class
distinctions based on ownership to promote an equal playing field for all members of society. We

Socialists believe that cooperation and groups are preferred over competition and individualism.
This cooperation results in strengthened bonds within the community and this is exactly what we
see throughout this book. An example would be the relationship between the members of the
doctor s ward. This can be seen in the decision of the women to comply with being used as
payment in order to get food. Even if they do not want to, they do it for the collective good. Not
one of them stays behind, and when they return they all shower together and this shows the
growing bond between them. Another example is when they escape the compound and decide to
stick together because they realized there is nothing left for them in their homes and that they are
better off with each other. This relationship goes to show the power they have as a group, and not

I have worked so hard to be where I am right now, actually, I have put in three times more effort

Importance Of Social Classes In A Thousand Splendid Suns
People may think that social classes may have an effect on how people are treated and what
relationships they have, others may believe it has to do with success. The way people are treated
can be based on anything from their beliefs, relationships, succeeds, and most importantly where
they belong in the social classes. It is very important what relationships you have and how others
treat you based on your class because it sets your reputation. No matter what traits you have, who
you know, where you come from, your class is very important and can play a big role in someone s
life. A person s social classcan change from being in the lower to a higher class, however it can

include the proletarians and the bourgeoisie. The novel shows who belongs to each class, why
they belong there, and the consequences they face. Both Mariam and Nana are in the lower
class, however Jalil is in the upper class. Consequences Mariam and Nana face for being in the
lower class in being kicked out of Jalil s house, shown in this quote, He cast us out of his big

Women should have the rights to their own bodies because taking away that right will only lead

The paradigm of culture is essential in the human day to day conversation of cross cultural

The Legal Drinking Age At The United States Of America
Vinny Messina Professor Newell ENC 1102 03 May 2015 Time to Look at the Facts There have
been many recent debates on the subject of the legal age to drink alcoholic beverages in the
United States of America. Some otherwise intelligent people want to lower the legal drinking
age to eighteen rather than keep it at twenty one, the current federally mandated drinking age. In
Time Magazine Mary Cary, author of Time to Lower the Drinking Age, puts forth the position
that lowering the drinking age would actually be beneficial to society. Though lowering the
drinking age to eighteen may lead to solutions to underage drinking, many other, more
dangerous issues may arise from teenagers who begin to drink earlier in life; this is the greater
matter that and it should not be overlooked on this issue. According to Mary Cary, lowering the
drinking age would not increase drunk driving and the deaths associated with it. She believes
that the issue of drunk driving has already been addressed and that the problem no longer exists.
She states that, Thanks to MADD, drunken driving isn t the problem it used to be, and she
mentions that this is the case because, we now throw the book at drunken drivers in this country
(Cary). While both of these issues may be true, she does not connect these two facts to lowering
the drinking age. Lowering the drinking age may, in fact, increase the risk of drunk driving since
alcohol will be more readily available to young people who have a reputation

Respiratory Acidosis Essay
Respiratory acidosis is when the lungs are unable to remove the normal amount of carbon
dioxide as the body produces it. This leads to an increase in PaCO2 (hypercapnia) which lowers
HCO3. The blood becomes too acidic because of the excess amount of CO2. The average range
for PaCO2 is 35 45m Hg. Respiratory acidosis is caused by an issue with the lungs ability to
remove CO2 properly, a form of lung disease. Most causes are asthma, neuromuscular disorders,
obesity and COPD. The lungs and the kidneys regulate the body s pH. Lungs remove CO2 and the
kidneys remove acid through the urine. Treatment would include bronchodilator drugs to open
airways, oxygen therapy and a breathing machine might be prescribed. A person that is much
older is more likely to develop this type of disease since the strength of the kidneys and lungs has
weekend with age. Also certain medications can affect the pH balance of the body.... Show more

This leads to a decline in PCO2 and increases pH. The Main cause for Respiratory alkalosis is
hyperventilation which is over breathing. Panic attacks (anxiety), heart attack, drug use, asthma,
fever, COPD and pulmonary embolism can cause respiratory alkalosis. Again, the lungs here are
important in keeping the blood pH balanced by releasing the perfect amount of carbon dioxide.
Treatment is dependent on the cause of respiratory alkalosis. For instance, if it was for anxiety
you would exhale into a paper bag carbon dioxide and breathe that into the lungs. Doing this can
restore the carbon dioxide back into the body. The body s pH depends on the kidneys and lungs so
in elderly it is much harder to maintain this balance due to the decline in the kidneys and the lungs

How Did Rockefeller And Standard Oil Illustrate The Limits...
1. With reference to the levels and spheres of corporate power, Standard Oil changed society if a
number of ways especially legally, economically and technologically. Legally, laws have been set
not because of Rockefeller, making it illegal to grow and dominate the way he did. Economically
and technologically, Standard Oilemployed a lot of people and helped create or boost industries
that used oil, which in turn created more jobs. I think, although his tactics were ruthless at times,
he still kept with the social contract at the time because I feel I affected more people in a positive
way than it did a negative.
2. The story of Rockefeller and Standard Oil illustrates the limits of business power because he
exceeded the limits to crush his competitors and force them out of business. Rockefeller had power
over individuals, the economy, culture, technology, politics and the environment, this helped him
build his monopoly to what it was. I think the theory best illustrated through this example would be
the dominance theory because he abused his power and created a monopoly. ... Show more content

Yes, John D. Rockefeller did act unethically at times, especially when it came to his competition.
He would either buy out competitors or drive them out of business, but at the time it wasn t
illegal or unethical to create a monopoly. By today s standards, he would be in big legal trouble
for his unethical ways of doing business. I think he was able to be a devout Christian and a
ruthless monopolist at the same time because he kept both entities separated. Since there weren t as
many regulations at the time, in his eyes his ruthless ways were more strategic advantages. Yes
there is a contradiction between his personal ethics and business ethics, because he was a generous
man, unlike Jacob Astor, and gave to charities, but he grew more unethical over time with the oil

The Human Body Has Changed Over 3000 Years Ago
The history of the human body has changed over 3,000 years ago. Many physicians based their
findings primarily through intuitive thinking and ancient philosophers. The primary reason I
chose this topic is because I love the anatomy and knowing all the organs, body parts, and the
way the body functions. After my aunt was diagnose with type 2 diabetes, I had a strong desire
to know, how could this be? I thought, Why not know the history behind it and the science itself.
What exactly caused it? What specific organs in the body were affected by it? And is it
preventable? Just take a look around science is all around you. You may not see it through the
naked eye, but believe me it s there. The Father of Medicine , and Greek physician, Hippocrates is
well known in today s era. He believed diseases of the human body were naturally caused; rather
than by demons. While on the other hand, a Roman physician, Claudius Galenmade fallacious
judgements of the human body; primarily because he only dissected animals and not cadavers.
Andreas Vesaliushad been much more absurd; when performing dissectionon dead bodies, in his
anatomy class. Modern day philosophers Hippocrates, Claudius Galen, and Andreas Vesalius had a
passion for science and incorporated their thoughts in skills into their own work.
Hippocrates found factors, which contributed to the underlying causes of diseases, in the human
body. During his time people, people believed that diseases were caused by some demonic

Composting, It s Gross
Composting, it s gross, it s stinky, and it can be downright atrocious, right? Wrong! Well, partly.
Composting can be gross sometimes with food and other weird things decaying, but the advantages
outweigh the risks don t they? Good soils that can help gardens, trees, and plants are worth having a
little stink. Many people think compostingis hard, though it can be easier with the right equipment,
the right c:n ratio, and the right boosts that will help kick start your pile.
Compost bins have many different flavors or types. Some include tumblers (or revolving drums),
orbs, and cylinders. Tumblers and orbs are types of compost bins that helps turn your compost
easier. Revolving drums are normally on rollers or can be hand cranked. They are made to spin
easier, and are regularly enclosed. They also can be vertical to turn over, or horizontal to be
rolled like a barrel. Orbs are bins that are octanal shaped or round. Orbs are very similar to
revolving drums, but are rolled on the ground to mix the compost. Some even have numbers that
can help you remember when you last turned it.6 Cylinders are simple designs that are useful,
and can be easy to move. Cylinders can be open or closed. Open cylinders have no top or bottom,
but has something of a wall around it. These can be easily moved and mixed. Closed cylinders are
commonly made of a thick plastic, and contradicting the open cylinder has a top and bottom. They
have ventilation and near the bottom there is a door to take

The Importance Of Animal Experimentation
Throughout the years research centers have been using animals as a base of study. They have
genetically modified conditions for animals in order to gain knowledge for treatments or human
diseases. Animal experimentation is the use of non human animals in experiments that are
controlled by variables that can affect the animals biologically. The animals are used to test
makeup products, drug products, or curiosity driven experimentation. These are only a couple of
areas where animals are used for the personal gain of another species. Throughout the years more
people have argued about animal experimentation being ethical. The reason why it has become
such a big issue is because of how social media has grown throughout the years now people can
search what really happens to animals who are experimented on.The real question is whether
animal experimentation is necessary. Depending on people s beliefs some may say that it is
necessary for the advancement of the humanrace, but others may say it is not necessary need
because of other factors that contribute into it and for me personally animal experimentation is not
a necessary option we have to take because of the endless possibilities of other things. , Animal
experimentation is not necessary because of how expensive it is.Animal experimentation is a lot of
money because the scientist have to pay to get the animals from their natural habitats to a
laboratory. Also animal experimentation can take up to 4 or 5 years for the

because I think out of all of them we have the most alike and we also have a lot of differences. I
also picked her because she was the most interesting to me. The first thing we have in common
is that she wears makeup and I wears makeup as well. She was 16 in the movie and im almost 16.
She also talks to alot of people and I do to. We are also similar because she gets mad over people
spreading rumors about her, but I think a lot of people would get mad over those kind of things. I

Competitive Market Demand
CESARANO FRANCESCO
ESSAY N.3
SUPPLY AND DEMAND WITH THE FOREIGN EXCHANGE MARKET
The concept of competitive market can be explained by saying that there is a large number of
firms competing each other with a large number of buyers, selling an identical product. There is
also perfectly freedom to entry and to leave the industry.
One of the consequence of this type of market is that the firms are price taker, which means that if
they try to raise the price by one unit for example, the consumers will buy somewhere else and
therefore they will leave, due to the competition from the other firms. This lead to a perfectly
elastic demand curve for any given product.
The last presumption is that the producer and consumers are aware of the ... Show more content on

Due to the high volume of participants, either a central bank or a single individual cannot interfere
with the current price against market speculation and therefore they are price taker .
There are many theories developed by economist trying to explain how exchange rate move, but
none of them has so far proved to be very accurate with the future exchange rate moves predicted.
On one side there are the technical analysts which believe that all the economic studies such as
inflation, interest rate, etc. are already known by the market and are reflected in the current price.
The chartists as they are also known, study charts that represents price movement over a period and
claim that future repetition of certain patterns can be predicted. Although Economist don t approve
Technical analyst approach, in the last two decades it had great influence on the forex market.
On the other side there is the theory of Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) which states that the rate will
adjust to the point where international purchasing power is equal.
In other word that mean that the price of any good would be the same in every country, a simple
example would be like The Economist states in its Big Mac index.
This means that one of the most important factor for exchange rates movement is the different

Measles-Mumps-Rubella Essay
Measles Mumps Rubella Vaccine and Autism The measles mumps rubella (MMR) vaccine has
been given to children since 1971, usually around the age of one year, and again before starting
school at around four or five years old. In 1998, Andrew Wakefield et al published a paper that
proposed a link between the MMR vaccineand autism. It was later found that the paper was
fraudulent, and The Lancet, the medical journal that published the paper, retracted the paper. Ever
since the paper was published, many people believe that the MMR vaccinecauses autism, despite
the multiple studies throughout the world that prove otherwise. science of medicine has come a
very long way over the course of human history, and it is still improving every day. The criteria for
diagnosing medical conditions, and the recognition of some conditions has greatly increased over
the years. Frank DeStephano and Robert... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Year Round Education Essay
Year Round Education
For more than twenty years the educational and economic benefits of year round schooling have
been debated in the United States. Experts agree that year round schooling may not be the answer
to the problems of all school districts. However in more than 205 districts nation wide, problems
have been resolved by year round schooling. First I need to explain that this is different from
extending the school year; on a year round schedule, students attend school the same number of
days 180 as students on the traditional nine month calendar. The difference is that year round
education (YRE) students have several short vacations rather than one three month summer break.
Most year round schools operate on a multi track ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These countries typically require longer instructional days and more of them than most
American schools, where the eight hour per day, 180 day a year model is standard
(Worsnop,96). This type of schooling may be the answer to the decades old concern that
American students are being ill prepared to compete with their counterparts overseas. By the most
objective measure, test scores, year round education seems to be working. For example, before
switching to its new schedule, Socorro schools had some of the lowest test scores in the country.
Now Socorro students outscore the state average on the Texas Assessment of Academic Skills
(Blackman,99) For many school administrators, the most persuasive argument in favor of YRE is
that it offers a cost effective way of relieving classroom overcrowding. Instead of renting
commercial space, portable classrooms or constructing new schools administrators can enlarge the
capacity of existing facilities by converting them to year round operation. Implementing a year
round calendar extends the capacity of a school by 33 percent, according to NAYRE (National
Association for Year Round Education.) The Oxnard Elementary School District is considered the
pioneer of year round educational systems. Oxnard first reorganized their schedule in 1976. The
driving forces behind the updated schedule were the increasing number of students in the buildings
and lack of funds. Oxnard has had success with this arrangement. Building

Ethical Challenges In Counseling
Apprehensions and Challenges An apprehension I have as I entered into the counseling field is
that I may unconsciously hold back a part of myself in fear of crossing ethical boundaries, by
saying or possibly doing something that may offend my client. In addition being prepared to
take action if and when an ethical situation arises. I also have to be self aware of any biases I
may be hindering that could or would cause ethical challenges or issues. The Challenge I will
have is determining how to deal with an ethical situation when it arises with a client. When a
counselor is faced with an ethical dilemma, it can be the professional counselors biggest ical
challenge in determining what the best course of action to will be (Forester Miller Davis,1996).
I realize that as I evolve in the counseling field my level of comfort and understanding of ethical
behavior and situations will continue to increase.
There is a level of nervousness I have with ethics regarding counseling. I am thinking with the
ethical policies and procedures the solution is to continue to study the ACA code of ethics and
be aware of what I say and how I interact with my future clients. As a counselor and after
exhausting all that I know to uphold ethics, I feel I will still ask how can I know if I have done
the right thing?(Van Hoose Paradise, 1979).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

advocacy profession (Remley, Herlihy, 2016). The second foundational ethic is justice. This refers
to the counselor s commitment to fairness in professional relationships. It also demands equality
(ACA, 2014). Reparation and justice speakly directly to the disenfranchised, diversity and

Piaget s Theory Of Object Permanence In Infants
Figure 2 contains results from the experiment. The results bear strongly on the experimental
hypothesis. 4a. The experimental hypothesis, based on Piaget s theory of object permanence in
infants, is that if infants stared and analyzed an object for an extensive amount of time, it could
mean they can t visualize what the outcome may be. However, an alternative hypothesis, inspired
by McCrink and Wynn theory, is that infants would be able to determine the outcome through their
natural understanding of mathematical operations 4b. An outcome of the current experiment that
would support the experimental hypothesis is that infants do not dishabituate and because of their
lack of object permanence, as theorized by Piaget, would not even acknowledge

Garbology Essay
A teacher once told me, One mans trash is another mans treasure, what he doesn t appreciate the
next man will. Until recently analyzing this statement I always pondered about it as a metaphor
using the thoughts, and ideas of people, but after reading Garbology I have come up with a literal
process of reusing trash. On average Americans wastes 220 million tons of waste generated each
year in the United Stateswhich ends up in one of the over 3,500 landfills. According to Edward
Humes, the author of Garbology, Garbage has become one the most accurate measures of
prosperity in the twenty first century America and the world, which proves that trash is a means to
improving the success rate of Americans. This reminds me of the words of Confucius who stated,

now China s trash compactor. Furthermore, due to China s skyrocketing economic growth, the
Chinese are facing a major challenge in terms of waste. China, the world s second largest
economy, is also the number one waste producer. Almost more than 430,000 tons of waste is
generated every day in China. China produces around 300 million tons of waste a year; most of it

The Use Of Drug Induced Gingival Overgrowth
3.1Subtitle: Introduction
Gingival enlargement is the overgrowth of gingiva characterized by an expansion and accumulation
of the connective tissue with occasional presence of increased number of cells.
Drug induced gingival overgrowth is known as an adverse effect with three types of drug:
Phenytoin, an antiepileptic;
Cyclosporine A, an immunosuppressant; and
Calcium channel blockers, such as dihydropyridines (nifedipine), diltiazem, and verapamil,
which are widely prescribed for the treatment of various cardiovascular diseases.
п‚—This is characterized by an accumulation of extracellular matrix within the gingival connective
tissue, particularly the collagenous component, with various degrees of chronic inflammatory
inflammation. (Yamasaki, 1987)
п‚—It remains unknown why drugs with such different pharmacological actions induce similar
gingival overgrowth.
п‚—The genetically determined capacity of the host to deal metabolically with chronically
administered drugs, the responsiveness of gingival tissue to the drugs, and preexisting gingival
condition, including inflammation may, differ among individuals.
п‚—Although the pathology of drug induced gingival overgrowth is not definitively known
п‚—These disorders seem to be induced through the disruption of the homeostasis of collagen
synthesis and degradation in gingival connective tissues.

  • 3. Is Space Exploration Worth The Cost Essay Your world is as big as you make it . Georgia Douglas Johnson once said in her poem Your World . Space exploration allows America to generate a great amount of money. If America continues space exploration, new discoveries can be made. Greater wealth and new discoveries could and will better America. This is why space explorationis worth the cost. To start with, space exploration generates great wealth for America. Economic, scientific, and technological returns of space have far exceeded the investment , said Dr. Joan Vernikos ( Is Space Exploration Worth the Cost 29 31). Space exploration does cost quite a bit but, the benefits greatly out number the cost. In 2007, NASA s budget of $16.3 billion is a minute fraction of the $13 trillion total G.D.P. , said Dr. Joan Vernikos. Space explorations budget is so limited, yet so much comes out of it. So in other words, Space exploration is risky and does cost money but the benefits are phenominiall. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In his Remarks At the Areospace Medical Center speech, J.F.K states, Medical space research may open up a new understandings of man s relationship to his environment . Space exploration could and will give the U.S many (medical) discoveries and advances. Space exploration gives the U.S access to many resources (like minerals) and alternate habitats, if needed. Dr. Vernikos states Our ability to explore and sustain human presence there will not only expand earth s access to mineral resources, but should the need arise, provide alternate habitats for humanity s survival ( Is Space Exploration Worth the Cost Lines 25 28). Space exploration could allow the U.S to discover new history changing things as well as give us access to resources (such as minerals) and alternate habitats, this will give the U.S everlasting benefits, that others countries maybe even the entire world does not ... • 4. Essay on Text Talk in Studentsв Ђ™ Formal Writing Several decades ago, Ain t ain t a word was a favorite litany of English teachers everywhere, and they sang it whenever that offending word cropped up in a student s speech or writing. Today, however, ain t is a word firmly entrenched in dictionaries, nonstandard, but a word nonetheless. Now, looming on the horizon is something which may make language arts teachers long for the days of ain t text talk. Text talk, or text speak, is the language of abbreviations, acronyms, and emoticons people use when communicating through short message service (SMS) on their cell phones, or when instant messagingand emailing each other, and it is beginning to creep into students formal writing. Teachers, not just language arts teachers, hate seeing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In talking with teens, Donna Alvermann (2007) found even those who claim they strongly dislike writing and never write outside school write entire paragraphs while texting, and some even create alternate identities for different chat rooms, thus engaging in creative writing. Teens prefer to text their ideas and feelings because it is less risky than speaking them, and Alvermann suggests content area teachers can capitalize on that. Teaching through Texting Language is not static; it grows and develops, and, like ain t, such textisms as LOL (laughing out loud) and BRB (be right back) may someday become acceptable English. Young people already speak many of their text talk abbreviations. The fact of the matter is the technology that spurred the development of this new language is here to stay, which means text talk is here to stay, and taking a hard line on keeping it out of the classroom is a losing battle. It is a losing battle teachers don t have to fight because they can harness the potential of text talk as a teaching tool. Kristen Hawley Turner (2009) advocates using text talk to teach students how to consciously code switch, or switch back and forth between informal and formal English usage. She and her graduate students developed an enjoyable lesson they call Flip the Switch which they use to teach code switching and, in the end, make it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Impact Of Corporate Social Responsibility On A Company s... To what extent is Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) beneficial to a company s performance? Sub prompt: Evaluate how CSR can be beneficial to company s financial performance. 1. Introduction Corporate social responsibility (CSR) has become more influential when making company s decisions. 53% of the S P, an index based on market capitalizations of 500 U.S. companies, has published CSR reports in 2012 as compared to 19% in 2011. An approach, suggested by Business for Social Responsibility, considers CSR as attaining commercial success through respecting people, community and the natural environment. McWilliams Siegel (2011) added that CSR are actions that far beyond the company s interests and the minimum requirement by the law. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Section three comments the limitations of empirical findings and CSR. 2. Impacts on Financial Performance 2.1 Cost Companies committed to CSR are expected to reduce operating costs. One of the key areas in CSR practices is paying attention to environmental issues such as energy saving and avoidance of excessive use of inputs. The promotion of resource efficiency including using less energy and water lower the utility costs. Nonetheless, a reduction in the use of packaging materials helps to reduce production cost. Brand equity has been viewed as the most crucial intangible assets of the company. Cornell and Shapiro (1987) suggested that the firms are able to establish reputation capital if they adopt CSR measures. Customers are more willing to spend on products that are produced by companies with good brand images. An adverse example has illustrated the importance of brand image with the scandal of Primark, a well known fast fashion clothing chains. The clothing retailer is found to break its code of conducts and employ illegal workers in poor working conditions. When BBC revealed the dishonored behavior, it cost Primark millions of dollars in information and advertising campaigns to restore consumer loyalty. It implies that a socially responsible firm that follows CSR practices can have less risk of negative rare events and thus avoid unnecessary cost. 2.2 Revenue A numerous empirical findings have revealed a positive correlation between ... • 7. Toni Cade Bambara’s Black Female Champions Essay Toni Cade Bambara s Black Female Champions It is well known from historical accounts, novels, poems, movies, and other sources that blacks have been abused, neglected, and mistreated in American society. In addition, a great deal has been written about the lives, hardships, and obstacles of black men. Black women, however, have long been relegated to subordinate societal roles in relation to white men and women and black men. Black women have been viewed as monsters and suffered distortions of their image. Toni Cade Bambara, in her writings, has helped to change the image of black women. Females made up 83.1% of the total. Black females comprised 32.3% of the total of all females working as maids (407). Toni Cade Bambara was very aware of the black environment and of black female experiences. In the foreword to the book Black Women Writers at Work, Tillie Olsen states that black women writers, such as Toni Cade Bambara, make us profoundly conscious of what harms, degrades, denies development, destroys; of how much is unrealized, unlived; instead of oppressed victims, they tell of the ways of resistances, resiliences (x xi). Bambara was born in New York City, raised by her mother, and educated at Queens College. She was a teacher, lecturer, and political activist ( Bambara, Toni Cade ). • 8. Analysis of the Bacchae To this day scholars offer a number of different interpretations of Euripides The Bacchae. This essay will argue the centrality of sophia (wisdom) and its opposite amathia , similar to the interpretation offered by Arrowsmith and Dodds: that the central idea of The Bacchae is that wisdom possession of humility, acceptance and self knowledge, encompassed by the Greek word sophia is the greatest and most necessary quality humanity can possess in the face of godly power. In particular this essay will focus on how the central idea is communicated through the convergence of characters and dialogue in Euripides The Bacchae. Hence the messenger s speeches are crucial as they drive the plot forward. However the messenger is also able to comment on scenes he describes, and in doing so exhibits a form of sophia . He sees the power of the maenads first hand and understands the terrible greatness of Dionysus and urges Pentheus to accept the god: sire, welcome him to Thebes. For he is great... He too exhibits the wisdom of Cadmus and Teiresias, the sophia of understanding the need for acceptance, and the dangers of denying a deity. Another essential group of characters in The Bacchae is the chorus, as within Greek plays the chorus often operated as a popular voice in support of the play s central idea. Their songs often explain important points, and it s clear in The Bacchae the songs of the Bacchante chorus uphold sophia as the trait most honourable in humanity. As Dionysus exits to convince Pentheus to dress is women s clothes, the stage is left to the chorus, and they sing: what is wisdom? What gift of the gods is held in honour like this... Wisdom is described as a gift from the gods sanctioned amongst men, and thus it is most wise to honour those gods. He who fails to recognise that humility is wise, humility is blessed, fails to recognise the greatest quality he can possess in the face of godly power. Thus it is clear that the characters of The Bacchae are essential in conveying the central idea, as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Italian Immigration Assignment I believe this is already known but I picked Italy for my alternate assignment I learned a few things about her current culture there is some things I like and some I do not. For example, they are very family oriented, and when their parents become too old to work they do not stick them in a nursing home like too many people in the States do. they would take care of them the rest of their lives. I for one care about my own family very deeply so I feel a connection of sorts with Italians I would do the same or at least something similar. • 12. Analysis Of Rebecca West s The Return Of The Soldier In Rebecca West s novel, The Return of the Soldier the reader is introduced to a man named Chris Baldry who suffers from shell shock fighting in the war. When he returns home, he has no recollection of the past fifteen years of his life. What he remembers, is being in love with a woman named Margaret, the daughter of an innkeeper. However, what he inevitably comes home to is a wife named Kitty and a cousin named Jenny who have been earnestly awaiting his return. Although West portrays Chris to be a victim so to speak within the novel due to his amnesia, the real trauma that he would experience was awaiting him at home, back at Baldry Court. Chris return would lead to a major upset in the lives of the women in his life, but for himself as well despite the fact he cannot account for a little over a decade of his past. When Chris returns home, West makes it abundantly clear through the accounts of all of the characters that he is not the man he was when he left to fight in the war. His own cousin Frank even says, I never realized the horror of warfare until I saw my cousin... (pg. 40). Even Jenny admits that he doesn t seem to be the same when she admits, By nights I saw Chris running across the brown rottenness of No Man s Land, starting back here because he trod upon a hand, not even looking there because of the awfulness of an unburied head... (pg. 7). The shell shock he experiences causes him to lose not only parts of his past, but parts of himself as well. However, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some critical issues associated with childhood stunting are impaired cognitive development, reduced intellectual performance, and reduced job productivity in the future. Stunting has major effects on children all over the world and if it is not treated at an early age, the effects are irreversible (Huicho). From pre conception to the first two years of life, it is crucial for a child to get the proper nutrients essential for their development: One of the serious consequences of stunting is particularly impaired cognitive development. When a child has inadequate access to food, their body conserves energy by first limiting social activity and cognitive development in the form of apathetic and incurious children. These children may not develop the capacity to adequately learn or play. Then the child s body will limit the energy available for growth (Zusy). Malnutrition is one of the major causes of childhood stunting. In a study conducted in West Madura Island, Indonesia, supplementation of lipid based nutrient supplements were found to prevent stunting in six to twelve month old infants. • 15. A Hero’s Breakdown Essay Ideas abound of what true heroism is in this day and age. To some, a true hero may be the person that led their favorite sports team to a championship. To others, true heroes are the doctors that helped a loved one get better from a serious illness. Some even see the person that gives them inspiration on a day to day basis as a true hero. To many, however, a true hero is so much more than that. To many, a true hero is the one that goes the extra mile t follow a strict moral code, both at home and in the public eye. A true hero is the one who will stand up for what he or she believes and what is right, no matter what the consequences may be. A true hero gives hope for humanity to the masses. He knows that what he is doing for Tom Robinson is not going to be well received by his community, and he knows why they are so against him (Powell). The people of Maycomb are scared of a coming change, and he understands where they are coming from. His refusal to give up and keep pushing, even though it somewhat hurts his reputation, is a hard feat to overcome. Even though he loses his case, his standing up for what is right despite the amount of hate he received is a very important thing (Atticus). For the African American population, times were especially hard. They knew that there was no hope for Tom, but Atticus gave hope to them for a whole new reason. They were given hope for a past due change in the behavior of their society. When the Caucasian population learned that a white man was going to be defending a black man in court to his fullest abilities they thought was a terrible thing. • 16. Cilia Function Cilia are organelles protruding from body cells, consisting of microtubules. These structures are important for hemostasis and cell development. Along with a group of proteins called kinesins superfamily proteins (KSFs), the cilia also play an important role in SHH signaling. The proteins found in this family serve a variety of functions relating to microtubule regulation, such as KIF4A and KIF21A. KIF4A controls microtubule length during celldivision, whereas KIF21A inhibits microtubule growth at the cell cortex. A prominent member of this family is the proteinKIF7, a homologue of the protein Costal2 (Cos2) found in Drosophila and zebrafish. Both serve relatively similar functions with relation to the Hh signaling pathway, though there... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The level of activity of Gli genes, and thus Hh pathway activation, determines skin tumor phenotype: high level signaling is shown to result in BCC and low level signaling is shown to result in follicular derived tumors such as basaloid follicular hamartoma (BFH) (2). Gli2 is involved in the expression of cell cycle regulation genes in the Shh pathway such as E2F1, CCND1, CDC2 and epidermal differential genes. Over expression of Gli2 causes the up regulation of such cell cycle regulation genes in developing hair follicles. Shh activation most specifically promotes degradation of the p53 tumor suppressor gene (2), thus repressing transcription of p21, a key suppressor of cyclin E in cell cycle regulation. Thus, G1 arrest is overrode, and the inability to control cell cycle is promoted: a key feature of cancer. Sufu and Kif7 have overlapping functions in regulating Gli transcription factors. Specifically, Gli2 forms a complex with Sufu to prevent transcriptional activity via preventing accumulation of Gli2 transcriptional factors into the nucleus, thus repressing Hh pathway transduction (3). Sufu also plays a role in stabilizing Gli2 by blocking Spop, an E3 ligase involved in degradation of Gli2 (3). In keratinocytes, Kif7 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although there were benefits relating to the architectural upgrades and the spread of ideas about politics and the modern world, the forcing of the French culture, division between religions, and the external French motivations were overall not beneficial. The Maghrib is a section of North Africathat includes Morocco, Algeria, Tunisiaand sometimes parts of Libya. Specifically, Algeria was very important to this region as well as the French who tried to colonize and modernize this region. Along with Tunisia, whose impacts from the French are shown through the travels and experiences of Khayr al Din. Ever since the beginning of the French colonization efforts, the natives of the Maghrib were weary of the concept. The French true motivations are evidenced through their new implementation of laws, cultural integration, and disregard for the religious groups of the region. Originally, the Maghrib architecture was distinctly North African, simple in design, and including ornate mosques. Fez is a grand example of the architecture region and all that it has to offer. The mallah section of Fez involves a lot of traditional North African architecture along with Jewish cultural influences. Although the architecture in this region was stunningly beautiful, when the French came in they upgraded a lot of buildings and public areas. Consequently, the region has a gorgeous mix of French colonial and native architecture. A great example of this resides in a town square where there is a mosque in the center and beautiful French colonial architecture surrounding the rest of the square in Algeria. The French influenced architecture as small as the lamp posts and as big as the grand, efficient highways. Due to this, the roadways and general design and architecture of the region was an incredible blend of ancient North African and modern French architecture. The French did not try to fully push their ideas upon the natives of the Maghrib, but instead brought their ideas with them and let the ideas assimilate with the natives to the degree the natives allowed it to. All three compounds began together in one culture tube, dissolved in methylene chloride and formed into a homogenous mixture. In this culture tube, two milliliters of aqueous three molar hydrochloric acidwas added, which immediately formed two layers, the top acidic aqueous layer was clear in color and contained benzocaine, and the bottom organic formed was yellow and contained benzoic acidand 9 fluorenone. Benzocaine s amino group is protonated by the aqueous layer hydronium. This protonation forms the conjugate acid of benzocaine, benzocaine hydrochloride. Thus, the conjugate acid, benzocaine hydrochloride is a salt in which is soluble in water and furthermore can be isolated from the organic mixture. When testing out the pH levels in benzocaine, the pH test strip was dark blue in color, indicating a pH level of around 5 to 7. When isolating benzoic acid, two milliliters of aqueous three molar sodium hydroxide was added, which deprotonates the carboxylic group in benzoic acid, forming its conjugate base, sodium benzoate. As with benzocaine hydrochloride, sodium benzoate is a water soluble ionic salt in the aqueous layer that can then be separated from the bottom organic layer containing the 9 fluorenone. The pH test strip was a vibrant red for benzoic acid, indicating a pH of 2. Now the 9 fluorenone is left, deionized water is added to remove any excess ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It s so different in fact, that it is the only instance of this orbit in the Sol solar system. What s the difference? The data from the mission revealed new information about both Pluto and Charon. It was found that Pluto is only somewhere around 8 ВЅ times more massive than its moon Charon. On top of this, Pluto and Charon are only 12,200 miles (19,634 km) apart. To put this in perspective, Earth is about 81 times more massive than the moon and are 238,900 miles (384,472 km) apart. Because the differences in mass are so minute and because they are so close, Charon doesn t actually orbit around Pluto. In reality, Pluto and Charon have what is known as a binary system, and this is the only orbit of its kind in our solar system. Between the 1800 s and 1973, there were 1.2 million illegal abortions and thousands were harmed as a result of illegal abortions. I and numerous amount of people would agree that allowing women to control whether or not to have a child and having a legal and safe abortionis logical. The Legal Drinking Age At The United States Of America Vinny Messina Professor Newell ENC 1102 03 May 2015 Time to Look at the Facts There have been many recent debates on the subject of the legal age to drink alcoholic beverages in the United States of America. Some otherwise intelligent people want to lower the legal drinking age to eighteen rather than keep it at twenty one, the current federally mandated drinking age. In Time Magazine Mary Cary, author of Time to Lower the Drinking Age, puts forth the position that lowering the drinking age would actually be beneficial to society. Though lowering the drinking age to eighteen may lead to solutions to underage drinking, many other, more dangerous issues may arise from teenagers who begin to drink earlier in life; this is the greater matter that and it should not be overlooked on this issue. According to Mary Cary, lowering the drinking age would not increase drunk driving and the deaths associated with it. She believes that the issue of drunk driving has already been addressed and that the problem no longer exists. She states that, Thanks to MADD, drunken driving isn t the problem it used to be, and she mentions that this is the case because, we now throw the book at drunken drivers in this country (Cary). While both of these issues may be true, she does not connect these two facts to lowering the drinking age. This leads to an increase in PaCO2 (hypercapnia) which lowers HCO3. The blood becomes too acidic because of the excess amount of CO2. The average range for PaCO2 is 35 45m Hg. Respiratory acidosis is caused by an issue with the lungs ability to remove CO2 properly, a form of lung disease. Most causes are asthma, neuromuscular disorders, obesity and COPD. The lungs and the kidneys regulate the body s pH. Lungs remove CO2 and the kidneys remove acid through the urine. Treatment would include bronchodilator drugs to open airways, oxygen therapy and a breathing machine might be prescribed. Many physicians based their findings primarily through intuitive thinking and ancient philosophers. The primary reason I chose this topic is because I love the anatomy and knowing all the organs, body parts, and the way the body functions. After my aunt was diagnose with type 2 diabetes, I had a strong desire to know, how could this be? I thought, Why not know the history behind it and the science itself. What exactly caused it? What specific organs in the body were affected by it? And is it preventable? Just take a look around science is all around you. You may not see it through the naked eye, but believe me it s there. The Father of Medicine , and Greek physician, Hippocrates is well known in today s era. He believed diseases of the human body were naturally caused; rather than by demons. While on the other hand, a Roman physician, Claudius Galenmade fallacious judgements of the human body; primarily because he only dissected animals and not cadavers. Andreas Vesaliushad been much more absurd; when performing dissectionon dead bodies, in his anatomy class. Modern day philosophers Hippocrates, Claudius Galen, and Andreas Vesalius had a passion for science and incorporated their thoughts in skills into their own work. One of the consequence of this type of market is that the firms are price taker, which means that if they try to raise the price by one unit for example, the consumers will buy somewhere else and therefore they will leave, due to the competition from the other firms. Experts agree that year round schooling may not be the answer to the problems of all school districts. However in more than 205 districts nation wide, problems have been resolved by year round schooling. First I need to explain that this is different from extending the school year; on a year round schedule, students attend school the same number of days 180 as students on the traditional nine month calendar. The difference is that year round education (YRE) students have several short vacations rather than one three month summer break. Most year round schools operate on a multi track ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These countries typically require longer instructional days and more of them than most American schools, where the eight hour per day, 180 day a year model is standard (Worsnop,96). This type of schooling may be the answer to the decades old concern that American students are being ill prepared to compete with their counterparts overseas. By the most objective measure, test scores, year round education seems to be working. For example, before switching to its new schedule, Socorro schools had some of the lowest test scores in the country. Now Socorro students outscore the state average on the Texas Assessment of Academic Skills (Blackman,99) For many school administrators, the most persuasive argument in favor of YRE is that it offers a cost effective way of relieving classroom overcrowding. Instead of renting commercial space, portable classrooms or constructing new schools administrators can enlarge the capacity of existing facilities by converting them to year round operation. Implementing a year round calendar extends the capacity of a school by 33 percent, according to NAYRE (National Association for Year Round Education.) The Oxnard Elementary School District is considered the pioneer of year round educational systems. Oxnard first reorganized their schedule in 1976.
