Intro
Is marketing important? If you ask most business professionals, they would say Yes . If you do not
know, marketing consists of the activities that businesses partake in to direct the exchange of goods
and services from a company to a consumer. Advertising is one of the many activities that a business
can use in order to spread awareness and information about a specific product. Companies develop
marketing campaigns, which is the course of action the company will take to promote the product or
service. Nike s Just Do It is an example of a very effective marketing campaign. It jumped Nike s
sales from $800 million a year to over $9.2 billion a year (Kolowich, n.d.). However, not every
marketing campaign is as successful as Nike s. Some campaigns are not even successful and end up
costing the company behind the idea millions of dollars and tarnishing its reputation to an unrepairable
point. In this report, I will be analyzing American Airlines and their AAirpass. I will go over what the
AAirpass campaign was, the reactions of both the consumer and the company, and then I will go over
the cost of the campaign.

Non-Traditional Students
Non Traditional Being an undergraduate as an adult is strange. It s at once unnerving and inspiring. It
s not a unilateral experience, but there are commonalities between adult students; there are a lot of
them. Toward the end of my almost final year of undergraduate studies, I was sitting with Annie,
another thirtyish former bartender, smoking cigarettes and trying to commiserate. Annie was in tears,
shocked that she would be the only non traditional student from our department walking in our school
s graduation ceremony. Strutting across a stage in a gown makes my skin crawl under any
circumstances, and to do so in celebration of something I felt should have finished a long time ago
was out of the question. The one other adult student in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Mina Loy. We tear up when the recently out gay boy who s overdoing it, working queer theory into
everything from Spencer to Carver, tells us that the first gay person he ever met was three months ago
at orientation. Our hearts unstiffen. They soften. Our judgement ebbs; our tolerance grows. We remind
ourselves that we grew up in different worlds than these people, these kids around us. Of course this is
true in any situation, but it s particularly poignant in a college classroom where young adults are being
introduced, hopefully, to new ways of thinking and understanding the world. And yes, though we have
moments of envy, intolerance, shame and defensiveness, there are parts of us, like Annie, that are also

Ethics Standards And The Field Of Accounting
Professional ethics are an absolute necessity in the field of accounting. Businesses rely on accountants
to accurately report their financial information and give sound advise and consultation in regards to
their business. There are standards and rules set in place to ensure that ethics and information is
reported accurately. Laws and repercussions are created place to deter unethical and illegal accounting
practices, although it still occurs in the business world on many levels. The field of accounting has a
code of ethics for very important reasons. Investors and creditors need assurance that the financials of
the company they are investing in are accurate. If the financials of a company are not created
accurately or if the information is falsified and inaccurate, investors and creditors have the potential to
lose lots of money. Ethics standards and controls have increased in more recent years due to a number
of scandals between large corporations. Enron is one of the most known examples, as many investors
lost enormous amounts of money and life savings due to embezzlement and falsifications from the
company and the accountants handling the financials. Accountants in each state must register with the
state boards in order to legally practice in that state. These boards relay ethical standards that certified
accountants are expected to adhere. An accountant s license can be suspended if the codes of ethics are
violated. One of the main controls set in place to

Ethical Dilemma in Consulting Essays
Ethics in Consulting
Ethics dilemmas in consulting
Ethics has become an important topic in business today with good reason. Just look at the headlines:
Rajat Gupta Scandal, Anil Kumar and Rajaratnam scandal, Enron, Worldcom, Health South, Great
depression, financial crisis due to unethical behaviour by the banks etc. All of these cases are related
to consultants either directly or indirectly and they occurred due to the moral fallacy of some of them.
Ethics is an extremely relevant value in business and consulting. The presence of recognized ethics
and/or ethical practices tends to diminish the need for informative or legal/contractual precautions in
the formalization of relationships, for both of the parts involved in a ... Show more content on

For instance, both lawyers and accountants have agreed on profession specific codes of professional
conduct, and physicians still frequently take the Hippocratic oath. Regarding management consultants
the professional associations have formulated different sets of ethical rules. The contents of the
individual codes either specify what professional conduct is or they indicate what cannot be
considered as professional conduct. However, it is also obvious that professional rules only serve as
overall ethical guidelines. The consequence of this is that the professional when practising is exposed
to several more specific ethical issues for which there is no explicit or written solution.
Whether they deserve it or not, it is notable that consultants and their business morals have been
questioned and caricatured. Statements such as ``The new witch doctors or ``Consultants are people
who borrow your watch to tell you the time and then walk off with it have often been quoted. A
headline like ``They change colour according to the environment indicates a certain unreliability.
However, it also has to be recognized that consultants often operate in situations characterized by
ambiguity, sensitivity and bounded rationality. Therefore it can be expected that recipients in
situations where they might be slightly criticized will react with

Essay about Immigrants and Assimilation into American...
Immigrants and Assimilation into American Society
Several years ago, America was taught to be a melting pot, a place where immigrants of different
cultures or races form an integrated society, but now America is more of a salad bowl where instead of
forming an incorporated entity the people who make up the bowl are unwilling to unite as one.
America started as an immigrant nation and has continued to be so. People all over the world come to
America for several reasons. Most people come to America voluntarily, but very few come
unwillingly. For whatever reasons they may have for coming they all have to face exposure to
American society. When exposed to this new society they choose whether to assimilate or not.
Assimilation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another reason is that children learn a language by imitating the sounds they hear (mimicry) without
an accent. This enables children to obtain a correct diction. Here a child has a positive experience and
is able to assimilate with ease. On the other hand, an elderly person will find the learning process a
challenge and to a certain extent the situation might even be so burdensome that one loses interest in
learning. In Amy Tan?s speech My Mother?s English, she explains the difficulties her mother faced
because she (Tan?s mother) was unable to clearly express herself. She (Tan) also felt the effects of this
as a child. Not only did Tan?s mother find speaking English a barrier in the process of assimilation,
but Tan herself felt her mother limited her perception (Tan 45). Since Tan?s mother was unable to
speak English properly people would not give her good service and would not treat her seriously even
to the extant that people ?pretended not to understand her or even acted as if they did not hear her,?
(Tan 45). This is just one example of many that shows how some people have had negative
experiences assimilating into American society.
Language is not the only factor affecting the assimilation of people into American society, but one?s
traditions also have an effect on the willingness and on the degree to which one assimilates. Some
people have found that certain customs they have are not accepted in American culture and might

The Invention Of A Handheld Electric Mixer
In the beginning of time mixers were not electrical like they are now a days really easy for people to
use. The egg beaters were hand cranked, Hand cranks don t require electricity, there is a handle you
hold it with and a little knob that you twist so it could mix the ingredients together. In 1856, a
Maryland Tinner named Ralph Collier was the man who invented hand cranked egg beaters. The hand
cranked egg beaters were used by hand nothing electrical in them, but a more years went by people
started inventing so much more mixers and they were electrical of different kind. A handheld electric
mixer is basically an electrical mixer that has a handle and someone holds it while the mixer is mixing
the eggs and other things. Mixers are of course something used in the kitchen and only the kitchen.
People or chiefs use it for baking because it makes the dough in a better smoother texture than if it
was hand mixed. A classical American mixer brand is Dover stamping company, the company bought
the patent egg beaters in 1859. An American man named Rufus Eastman invented the first mixer
which was in 1885. The first man to invent electric mixer was named Herbert Johnson that was in
1908. His whole idea started from basically watching television, there was a baker who was making
dough with a spoon that is how his idea was formed. There were electrical mixers before but they
were hand mixers that used electricity. The electric mixes he made were mostly for bakers with
experience and

New England Settlers vs. the Chesapeake Settlers Dbq
Since the early 17th century, the English migrated to America for a variety of reasons. The promise of
treasure, religious tolerance, and plentiful lands, lured gold seekers, Puritans, Protestants, unemployed
farmers, indentured servants, and younger sons (who had fallen victim to laws of primogeniture), to
the land mistakenly named the Indies. English migration to the Chesapeake region spread over nearly
a century, whereas voyagers to New England arrived within a single decade. One would think that
since the English settled both of these regions, both of their societies would develop quite similarly,
but one could not be more wrong. The variations of the societies that developed in the Chesapeake

Each individual player will be monitored and supported across the FA 4 corner model (pictured
below), this model outlines the factors that need to be considered as a young player or learner grows
and develops in the learning environment. Each of the corners is connected and relies on support from
the other three areas.
The FA 4 Corner Model (long term player development)
We introduced this model to help the young learners understand that technical ability unaccompanied
will not be enough on the pathway to excellence. They must understand that barriers or challenges
such as injuries, growth spurts, external pressures, financial issues and self doubt could all potentially
face them as they grow and develop in the game. To add to the complexity of the 4 corner model even
cultural, faith and ethnic issues which arise with diverse groups are taken into account.
As you can see from the diagram players have an opportunity to alter the amount of support they
require on a regular basis, this can range from a high amount of support over all 4 corners or very little
support over just one corner. Some of the Academic/Pastoral support services we have implemented
internally have included:

land but on our U.S. military overseas as well; although the terrorist attack on September 11, 2011 was
the most significant event ever in history of terrorism (Clarke). According to Against All Enemies
written by Richard A. Clarke, a primary and reliable source, before the major event had occurred, the
Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and FBI were heavily involved in fighting foreign attacks operated
by Al Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden in which they did not know at the time were the culprits for all the
terrorist violence (Clarke). The main reason why this extraordinary attack happened was because of
miscommunication between CIA and FBI; the CIA knew beforehand that Al Qaeda was involved way
before, but decided not to inform anyone, not even the FBI (Clarke). If the FBI learned of this earlier,
the agency could have prevented the attack by targeting the mastermind of Al Qaeda Osama Bin
Laden early on. Because of 9/11, the FBI pursues changes strategically, informatively, and financially.
They sought advice from the National Commission of Terrorist Attacks Upon The United States
(Commission), and the Commission gave several valuable recommendations to how the FBI should
change their approaches to terrorism (FBI Responds...). The agency took in suggestions and applied
them to today; members will specialize in one of the four program areas Intelligence,
Counterterrorism/Counterintelligence, Cyber, or Criminal; recruiting, hiring, and retaining of
Intelligence Analysts, including having experience and expertise, foreign language, and technology;
formation of team to handle national security intelligence operations; and emphasis on detailed
reporting from FBI to Congress (FBI Responds...). All of these changes will greatly affect the way
FBI combats terrorism. Compared to the past, FBI now does more than just preventing violations of
laws, but protects the U.S. through internal improvement and focuses on many factors that

Electoral College Essay
With the surge of controversy surrounding the recent election, the United States has rekindled the
Electoral College debate. However, this isn t the first time that a tight election has resulted in unclear
or contested results. Nor is it the first time the Electoral College has made a president out of the
popular vote loser. In the over two hundred years since its construction, the Electoral College has
demonstrated its shortcomings with more than its share of mishaps. Is this system a tribute to
democracy and the brilliance of its creators or is it an archaic tradition that should be eliminated?

Whichever candidate wins the popular vote in a particular state wins all of its electoral votes. Due to
changes in population, the number of representatives for each state changes every ten years with the
new census results. And, consequently, so does the distribution of the electoral votes. This year, five
hundred thirty eight votes were apportioned to the fifty states and DC, making the magic number two
hundred seventy. Whichever candidate hits two hundred seventy votes wins the presidency.
So just who are these electors? Electors are actual people selected for each election that vote
according to the states popular vote. They are typically political party loyalists or individuals that have
some affiliation with the candidates. And how are they chosen? Parties nominate electors at their state
party conventions or by a vote of the party s central committee in the state. An elector could really be
anyone. Only a few regulations are outlined in the constitution as to who cannot be an elector.
Obviously, they can t be Senators or Representatives. Interestingly, there is no federal law or
constitutional provision that mandates electors to vote as they pledged. Only twenty four of the fifty
states require their electors to vote in accordance with the states popular vote. And, of these, only five
states actually have penalties for failure to do so. These penalties are mediocre at

racial profiling should be considered immoral.
One way of trying to eliminate racial profiling, would be through extensive data collection because it

• Build trust and respect for the police in the communities they serve
• Provide departments with information about the types of stops being made by officers, the

Benefits Of A Job For A Resident s Life Span And...
Robert Burney (2015) explains that CCRCs all offer multiple levels of care, but not all contracts cap
long term costs regardless of the level of care. Type A contract facilities are able to cap these costs,
which make them more favorable. However, in order to accomplish this control of futuristic costs,
institutions must require a significant entrance fee for residents. Essentially, residents buy in to their
retirement community and are then contracted at a fixed rate for all futuristic expenses, regardless of
the resident s life span and potential care needs. As one would expect, the initial buy in is very costly
and could range from $50,000 to over $1,000,000 (Burney, 2015). Depending on the needs a resident
may require in the future he or she may be arranging a deal of great value or one that will prove to be
exceptionally expensive. Nevertheless, Type A contracts are made to reflect estimates of average
healthcare costs seen in many elderly persons as they transition through multiple levels of care
(Burney, 2015). Because of these analyzed costs, a facility s financial planner can easily establish
residential rates to cover basic living needs, possible increased healthcare requirements, and the
sustainment of the business. Many vigorous steps of financial planning should be done from all parties
involved in any long term agreement in order to consider the time value of money in regards to
futuristic costs and benefits.

Stupid Roo Monologue
How dare he? I thought he knew me better. I thought I knew Roo after seeing him for 17 long years, I
thought he would know by now that I DO NOT want to get married! All of those lay off seasons
wasted, all because Roo decided to propose. Stupid Roo, why did he have to wreck everything? It
makes me think... does he even know me? Wouldn t you think that over the years he would know that
I don t want to be a silly house wife like Pearl was before her husband passed away. I m not like
Nancy and Pearl, I want to live my life, not be tied to a man until I die. Marriage, I can t believe he
proposed the idea of marriage to me that stupid Roo. Why can t things go back to the way they used to

Imagine that, staying with the same person for your whole life, and not making any decisions for

don t want to slave in the kitchen all day preparing meals when my husband is perfectly capable of

expected to work harder than my husband?? Work until I have blisters on my hands? And no I don t

Atlantic Computer Case Study
Introduction
Atlantic Computer developed a product, the Atlantic Bundle , to meet an emerging basic server
market. The Atlantic Bundle is a Tronn server coupled with the Performance Enhancing Server
Accelerator software tool PESA . Atlantic Computer must decide on the pricing strategy.
Situational Analysis
The external analysis is as follows:
Customers: The first customer identified has a primary need to host websites, Web Server customer.
The second customer identified has a primary need for file servers that help layout designers share
graphic, text, and layouts, File Sharing customer. Customers in these segments appear to be the ones
that will benefit the most from the PESA tool.

Alternative Courses of Action
Free PESA Software with Purchase. Rather than regarding the PESA R D as a sunk cost, I chose to
distribute the costs to every server. The price under this route was determined to be $2,122 (see
Appendix B). The primary drawback is that a customer who would have normally purchased the
Tronn without the software would be charged a higher price ($2,122 vs. $2,000). Continuing with the
tradition and norm of free software, staff would not have to be retrained and customers will not feel
alienated. Furthermore, the one bundle price could easily be transitioned to on line sales, and the low
price will increase market share. The free software could create an illusion of low perceived value.
Finally, the lower price will result in lower profit margins, and it does not take into consideration the
value advantage received by the customer.
Competition Based Pricing. The price under this route was determined to be $3,400 (see Appendix C).
Under this route, the company will earn more profit per bundle sold. Additionally, minimal effort is
required to determine the price. However, the competition based pricing creates indifference between
the Atlantic Bundle and its competition. The higher price will also reduce market share and could stir a
pricing war.
Cost Plus. The price under this route was determined to be $2,245 (see Appendix D). Atlantic would
gain market share under this route as the price is low

The Simple Soul In The Phaedo And The Republic
Within this essay, I am going to argue that the simple soul is a more plausible conception than the idea
of multiplicity within the soul within Plato s work. This is due to the multiplicity of the soul resting on
a circular argument of Plato s ideal city which in turn rests back upon his idea of the tripartite soul.
However, it can also be argued that neither conceptions of the soul are plausible due to them both
relying on Plato s theory of the Forms. Throughout Plato s works of the Phaedo and the Republic, his
account for the soul is conflicting as Plato s two accounts cannot be reconciled. I will also refer to
Plato s work in the Phaedrus to aid my explanation of the multiplicity within the soul.
Simplicity of the soul
Plato s theory of the simplicity of the soul is seen in the Phaedo. Through the mouthpiece of Socrates,
Plato argues for a simple soul which only has one true aim. He states that the soul only seeks truth and
that all other senses and experiences are merely distractions through the soul being embodied the soul
reasons best when none of these senses troubles it, neither hearing nor sight, nor pain nor pleasure, but
when it is most by itself, taking leave of the body and as far as possible having no contact or
association with it in its search for reality. (Plato, 1997, §65c). The simple soul can only aim to grasp
the truth of reality which it gets closer to as man becomes closer to death. This is why, in Plato s
opinion, a philosopher in particular can

Business Etiquette Essay
Business Etiquette
The Importance of Etiquette Etiquette has always been an important part of life, be it social or

This is mainly due to the fact that the business world is becoming more global and that relationship
selling has become must for success. Etiquette is important for a variety of reasons. It helps to ease
what might become and uneasy situation and can make or break business relationships that are worth
millions of dollars. In essence, etiquette helps people to understand what is appropriate in any
situation. It is also important to know the difference between business protocol and business etiquette.

How to Conduct Proper Introductions
Few people know how to conduct introductions in a proper fashion, yet they are an important aspect
of our daily life. In the social realm, men are introduced to women. In the business realm, the less
important person is introduced to the person of greater importance, regardless of either gender.
Though a key aspect to remember is that the name of the person being introduced is mentioned last,
and the person to whom the introduction is made is mentioned first. It is also critical to remember that
the client is the biggest priority, even if he/she holds a lesser title.
In the business world the handshake is the accepted physical greeting which accompanies the
introduction. With the entrance of women into the business world came kissing. This has caused
confusion in male female business etiquette, therefore, men and women should be treated equally by
using the handshake. In order to shake hands properly the thumbs are up and the webs touch before
wrapping the fingers around the other person s hand. Although, in social etiquette the woman is to
extend her hand first. In the business arena it is of no concern. Nametag placement is also important so
that it becomes easy to read while shaking hands. The nametag is to be placed

Greek Mental Illness History
The history of psychopathology goes back hundreds of centuries in the past. The history of
psychopathology goes along with social and medical history. Throughout history we can see that
mental health has evolved in the way we conceive it. Also, through history, we understand why the
mentally ill have been tortured, or protected, and this will depend on the perspective of the human
being at that particular time. Mentally ill people in prehistoric times were seen as if evil spirits possess
them, so the exorcism and spells applications were the ways to treat their condition. Today mental
illness is treated scientifically and as human disease and not as in ancient times that was awarded to
supernatural powers. Primitive Cultures 10,000 BC In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Franklin D. Roosevelt s National Industrial Recovery Act...
President Franklin D. Roosevelt s New Deal was a package of economic programs that were made and
proposed from 1933 up to 1936. The goals of the package were to give relief to farmers, reform to
business and finance, and recovery to the economy during the Great Depression. Among many other
new acts to help give recovery to the economy, the NIRA was born. The National Industrial Recovery
Act (NIRA) was created by Roosevelt to see to the needs of industry, trade unions, and even the
consumer, promoting cooperation among corporations while also establishing codes for fair
competition between industries. Most importantly, the purpose of the NIRA was the put people back to

The previously mentioned codes dealing with minimum work hours, wages, and labor conditions were
also not working out. Those codes would not become a part of work and labor laws until later in
history. Another section of these codes dealt with fair competition. All sorts of codes were created just
dealing with fair competition, but they would not apply to antitrust laws. Antitrust laws were laws
made to reduce competition between companies and prevent monopolies from forming (National
Industrial Recovery Act of 1933). Since these codes did not apply to antitrust laws it basically gave
businesses the opportunity to create monopolies. After monopolies were created, it had raised the
prices on goods and services. That is certainly not the best thing for an economy, and to add more fuel
to the fire deflation was also a major problem during this time. Deflation is the lowering of the price
of goods and services. These higher prices were made on purpose to allow people like farmers to
prosper. Their theory of higher prices equals more prosperity failed miserably and made the economy
just stop. The prices ended up being too high, and that did absolutely nothing for the economy or the
people (National Industrial Recovery Act (1933)). Another reason the NIRA wasn t all too successful
in the thirties was the lack of support it had from businesses. Larger business had given their support
to the NIRA, although smaller businesses did

The Importance Of Cognitive Development In Willy Wonka And...
Childhood, as we all know, is the state or period of being a child; the early period in the development
of something (Merriam Webster). The movie Willy Wonka the Chocolate Factory (1971) illustrates
five different children with each having different behavior, and they have one thing in common they
are the only child in their family. These children are in the middle childhood, primary school age,
around age seven or eight. What makes them different from each other is interesting. It allows the
viewers to think if their behavior is either result of their experience or how they were raised. How they
perceive things and how they behave are part of their cognitive development. The major domain of
early childhood development is their cognitive development and the arguable aspects of the Nature
Nurture. The term cognition refers to how the mind operates and the study of cognitive development
focuses on how the mind thinks and learns during the early years of life (Universal Class, Inc.). The
major premise of Piaget s theory is that children go through various stages of cognitive development,
all of which are distinct from one another and influenced by both nature and nurture. (Universal Class,
Inc.). Nature is what we think of as pre wiring and is influenced by genetic inheritance and other
biological factors. Nurture is generally taken as the influence of external factors after conception, e.g.,
the product of exposure, experience and learning on an individual (Simply

Toomer is a controversial literary and cultural figure who gets criticized by people for rejecting his

drew sharp criticism from many people, especially from members of the African American

has been criticized for failing to write about the experience after Cane. Many people said he denied his
African American heritage out of shame and cowardice (Claypool 4). Many critics have credited his
work with ushering in the Harlem Renaissance noting the book s representations of African American
characters and culture. Others have located it within the lost generation owing to its literary
experimentation, romantic primitivism, and its critiques of postwar values (Jones 3). The analysis of
Cane contains Toomer denying his racial heritage. This book also contains the extracts from most of

Life is full of uncomfortable situations. Whether it s 12:01 on December 21, 2012 or seconds before a

ABSTRACT
E procurement systems contribute largely to business and government institutes by increasing the
national productivity growth through removing of non value added activities in the process of
procurement. In many countries the adoption of these systems has been slow compared to
economically integrated regions such as Europe and North America. This study aims at exploring the
impact of electronic procurement systems for Australian organizations using the propagated
framework. The research will be used to develop an instrument to measure the success of the adoption,
help identify the barriers facing achieving success and establishment of a framework to promote
success
Key words: E procurement, technology adaption, IS success.

Distinc Mise En Scene Analysis
This particular scene shows two types of proxemics distances, social distance and impersonal
business/casual social gatherings distance. Although this is a long shot, you can see the difference
between the two groups of boys based off of how close they stand to each other. The two teams of
boys are standing with each other at a social distance; they are friends and if they reached out their
arms they could easily touch one another. Both teams are standing close enough to engage in two way
communication, but they are by no means friendly with each other. The distances give off the
emotional impact that these teams are against one another. This scene from The Longest Yard also
shows how proxemics distances can give a clue to the relationships amongst people. In this frame, the
convicts football team is cheering and chanting together the night before their big game against the

Do you agree with Mill s assertion that some pleasures are higher than others? What would you

Mental pleasures are intrinsically superior to physical pleasures, as well as circumstantially. The
evidence Mill appeals to in support of his claim that there are different kinds of pleasures and that
some are superior to others is the experience of mankind. Those who are acquainted with both sorts of
pleasures do prefer the higher pleasures. (P.10)

The Case Of Brown V. Board Of Education Of Topeka
In 1954, The United States Supreme Court made a landmark decision with its ruling in the case of
Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka. The ruling was a monumental one for multiple reasons.
Firstly, it was a major step in the Civil Rights Movement as it ended the legal use of separate but equal
facilities, under the ruling that this violated the Fourteenth Amendment s Equal Protection Clause. It
gave African Americans access to better schools, and also gave them a greater sense of dignity as they
no longer could be legally forced to drink from different fountains or sit in separate sections. Another
aspect of the decision that makes it so significant is the fact that it did the rare task of overturning a

He believed that in order to understand law, one must first realize what law s purpose is. He, like
Thomas, argued that law s purpose it to benefit society by creating a morally sound order to human
action and conduct. He detailed seven goods that he believed to be intrinsic and universal, and argued
that laws should be enforced under the stipulation that they adhere to the enhancement of these goods,
because they are what determines a fulfilling life. They are: life, knowledge, play, aesthetic
experience, sociability, practical reasonableness, and religion. The goods that relate to the thesis of this
paper the most are knowledge and sociability, as the result of the case has a direct benefit on them and
is, therefore, moral and legitimate. Legal positivists, however, disagree that morality has any place in
determining what legitimate law is. H. L. A. Hart based much of his theory on the previous legal
positivist John Austin s work. Austin believed that laws obtain their legitimacy from the recognition of
a society s members in the authority of their unruled ruler. This unruled entity that enforces laws with
the backing of sanctions, is what Austin terms the sovereign. He believed that in order for a sovereign
to exist it had to be habitually complied with by those it governs. What separates Austin s theory from
natural law theories is that he did not believe that laws had to be created or followed on the basis of
morality. According to Austin s

Essay on Case East Penn Bank
Activity Based Costing in the
Service Sector:
The East Penn Bank
ABSTRACT: This case illustrates why a major segment of the service sector banks needs accurate
cost information to make strategic decisions, and how more refined accounting systems help fulfill
this need.
East Penn Bank is a hypothetical bank that has suffered falling profits despite a shift in customer base
toward retail customers, which the current information system reports are more profitable than
business customers. Following a stepby step approach, you will develop the Bank s average cost of
serving a retail customer account and a business customer account, under (1) the Bank s traditional
single allocation base system, and (2) a (pilot test) activity based costing ... Show more content on

The bank allocates these indirect costs to either the retail customer line or the business customer line,
based on the total dollar value of checks processed (which is readily available because each branch
must provide the dollar values of daily transactions for internal control). For the current period East
Penn processed a total of
$95 million in checks, of which $9.5 million was written by retail customers, and
$85.5 million was written by business customers. This costing approach was fairly typical of banks
and other financial institutions at the time East Penn developed its cost system.
In college, Erik learned about an alternative costing approach called activitybased costing (ABC).
However, the examples he remembered involved manufacturing firms. He wondered whether East
Penn could develop an ABC system, with the business account customer line and the retail account
customer line as the two primary cost objects. Erik approached Rob Garrison with this suggestion.
Rob was skeptical, exclaiming, Our profits are going down the tubes and you want me to spend money
developing a new accounting system? However, Erik persisted, and Rob eventually authorized a pilot
ABC study using three local branches of the bank.
The ABC implementation team included Erik, the managers of each of the three bank branches, a bank
teller, and a representative from the customer

Enter Without So Much As Knocking By Bong-Joon Ho
An individual s experiences shapes the lens through which they perceive the world through this lens, a
composer can communicate their outlook upon the constituents of human existence, hence divulging
their experiences upon the audience. The texts, Snowpiercer , Enter Without so Much as Knocking ,
and Homecoming each communicate respectively the importance of sacrifice, the materialistic nature
of modern society, and the unavailing nature of war. Their authors experiences allow for a deeper,
more personal understanding of each theme.
The text, Snowpiercer, produced by Bong Joon Ho in 2013, portrays the ambiguity of morality
through the conception of two vastly different characters. The text presents the audience with a train in

Pilgrim s Host
No one likes to be the butt of a joke, Pilgrim Chaucer included. In the Prologue to Sir Thopas, the
Host, Harry Bailey, a crude, hulking man, taunts Pilgrim Chaucer by making fun of his quiet manners
and delicate appearance. Lacking a physical advantage over the Host, Pilgrim Chaucer wisely chooses
to get back at him by using his wits. Rather than getting upset over Harry s slurs, the Pilgrim takes his
revenge in a more subtle way by telling a tale guaranteed to irritate his Host: a lilting, ridiculous piece
of fluff about a hopelessly effeminate knight called Sir Thopas. Through the use of camp language and
phallic symbols, Geoffrey Chaucer, in his poem the Tale of Sir Thopas, creates a mocking
counterpoint to his Host, and exposes Harry s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He uses terminology usually reserved for romantic heroines: Whit was his face as payndemayn,/His
lippes rede as rose;/His rode is lyk scarlet in grayn,/And I yow telle in good certayn/He hadde a
seemly nose (725 729). Additionally, he is, sweete as is the brembul flour, (746), with long golden hair
and silken clothes. This harkens back to the Host s description of Pilgrim Chaucer as small and pretty.
Also, Sir Thopas s knightly skills and bravery are sorely lacking. He hunts only the nonthreatening
deer and rabbit. Furthermore, when he is confronted with the Giant, Sire Thopas drow abak ful faste;
(827) and runs away from the fight. Pilgrim Chaucer s use of camp language throughout the tale
contributes significantly to the Host s

Why Should Organisations Collect
Why should organisations collect, file and maintain accurate financial records? To have a record of
how the business is running. This allows us to determine how the business is sitting financially and
display what money is going where and whether there is room for improvement. Basically, it is used to
anaylse the business as a whole and to determine performance for both employees and for the
organisation. What are the expectations of managers and supervisors in relation to budget or financial
plans? Managers and supervisors should understand financial information relating to costs, operations,
assets, credit analysis, GST transactions, inventory management, invoices and accounts, ect. This will
allow them to monitor and control cash ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s also important to understand when these transactions are taking place. There is the chance that a
customer has bought an item but takes a long time in paying it off. Although you might have made a
profit on the sale of the item, there is a cash flow gap as you have not yet received the funds to pay for
the item yourself. Simple things like can put smaller businesses in a lot of financial trouble. This cash
flow gap could damage credit ratings, miss other opportunities, and force the borrowing of funds.
What data do you need to collect, and from whom, in order to construct a cash flow budget? Sales
reports last periods figures Outgoings such as purchases, marketing, loan repayments, etc Staff costs
Capital such as stock on hand and cash Describe how the budget is used to monitor work,
performance, variation, and team/ division outputs. The budget reports are designed to give a clear
overview of how the business is running. Every expense can be calculated as a percentage of the total
expense/margin to see if it is cost effective. If it is being overspent then something needs to be done.
This could be a number of things such as reducing spending, reducing or increasing staff levels, cross
training staff, incorporate techniques to increase sales, reduce stock levels, outsourcing, and
renegotiating supplier costs. Why do you think it is necessary to report on these things? For the

Marketing Strategy Of Nike Table of Contents Introduction 2 Campaign Information 2 Consumer Reaction 4 Company Reaction 4 Campaign Costs 6 Conclusion 8 Appendixes 9 Intro Is marketing important? If you ask most business professionals, they would say Yes . If you do not know, marketing consists of the activities that businesses partake in to direct the exchange of goods and services from a company to a consumer. Advertising is one of the many activities that a business can use in order to spread awareness and information about a specific product. Companies develop marketing campaigns, which is the course of action the company will take to promote the product or service. Nike s Just Do It is an example of a very effective marketing campaign. It jumped Nike s sales from $800 million a year to over $9.2 billion a year (Kolowich, n.d.). However, not every marketing campaign is as successful as Nike s. Some campaigns are not even successful and end up costing the company behind the idea millions of dollars and tarnishing its reputation to an unrepairable point. In this report, I will be analyzing American Airlines and their AAirpass. I will go over what the AAirpass campaign was, the reactions of both the consumer and the company, and then I will go over the cost of the campaign. Campaign Info In 1978, the United States government passed the Airline Deregulation Act (Unnikrishnan, 2015). Before 1978, the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) was the regulator of all airlines. The ... It s not a unilateral experience, but there are commonalities between adult students; there are a lot of them. Toward the end of my almost final year of undergraduate studies, I was sitting with Annie, another thirtyish former bartender, smoking cigarettes and trying to commiserate. Annie was in tears, shocked that she would be the only non traditional student from our department walking in our school s graduation ceremony. Strutting across a stage in a gown makes my skin crawl under any circumstances, and to do so in celebration of something I felt should have finished a long time ago was out of the question. • 6. Ethics Standards And The Field Of Accounting Professional ethics are an absolute necessity in the field of accounting. Businesses rely on accountants to accurately report their financial information and give sound advise and consultation in regards to their business. There are standards and rules set in place to ensure that ethics and information is reported accurately. Laws and repercussions are created place to deter unethical and illegal accounting practices, although it still occurs in the business world on many levels. The field of accounting has a code of ethics for very important reasons. Investors and creditors need assurance that the financials of the company they are investing in are accurate. If the financials of a company are not created accurately or if the information is falsified and inaccurate, investors and creditors have the potential to lose lots of money. Ethics standards and controls have increased in more recent years due to a number of scandals between large corporations. Enron is one of the most known examples, as many investors lost enormous amounts of money and life savings due to embezzlement and falsifications from the company and the accountants handling the financials. Accountants in each state must register with the state boards in order to legally practice in that state. These boards relay ethical standards that certified accountants are expected to adhere. An accountant s license can be suspended if the codes of ethics are violated. One of the main controls set in place to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, it is also obvious that professional rules only serve as overall ethical guidelines. The consequence of this is that the professional when practising is exposed to several more specific ethical issues for which there is no explicit or written solution. Immigrants and Assimilation into American Society Several years ago, America was taught to be a melting pot, a place where immigrants of different cultures or races form an integrated society, but now America is more of a salad bowl where instead of forming an incorporated entity the people who make up the bowl are unwilling to unite as one. America started as an immigrant nation and has continued to be so. People all over the world come to America for several reasons. Most people come to America voluntarily, but very few come unwillingly. For whatever reasons they may have for coming they all have to face exposure to American society. When exposed to this new society they choose whether to assimilate or not. Assimilation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another reason is that children learn a language by imitating the sounds they hear (mimicry) without an accent. This enables children to obtain a correct diction. Here a child has a positive experience and is able to assimilate with ease. On the other hand, an elderly person will find the learning process a challenge and to a certain extent the situation might even be so burdensome that one loses interest in learning. In Amy Tan?s speech My Mother?s English, she explains the difficulties her mother faced because she (Tan?s mother) was unable to clearly express herself. She (Tan) also felt the effects of this as a child. Not only did Tan?s mother find speaking English a barrier in the process of assimilation, but Tan herself felt her mother limited her perception (Tan 45). Since Tan?s mother was unable to speak English properly people would not give her good service and would not treat her seriously even to the extant that people ?pretended not to understand her or even acted as if they did not hear her,? (Tan 45). This is just one example of many that shows how some people have had negative experiences assimilating into American society. Language is not the only factor affecting the assimilation of people into American society, but one?s traditions also have an effect on the willingness and on the degree to which one assimilates. Some people have found that certain customs they have are not accepted in American culture and might ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The main reason why this extraordinary attack happened was because of miscommunication between CIA and FBI; the CIA knew beforehand that Al Qaeda was involved way before, but decided not to inform anyone, not even the FBI (Clarke). If the FBI learned of this earlier, the agency could have prevented the attack by targeting the mastermind of Al Qaeda Osama Bin Laden early on. As one would expect, the initial buy in is very costly and could range from $50,000 to over $1,000,000 (Burney, 2015). Depending on the needs a resident may require in the future he or she may be arranging a deal of great value or one that will prove to be exceptionally expensive. Nevertheless, Type A contracts are made to reflect estimates of average healthcare costs seen in many elderly persons as they transition through multiple levels of care (Burney, 2015). Because of these analyzed costs, a facility s financial planner can easily establish residential rates to cover basic living needs, possible increased healthcare requirements, and the sustainment of the business. Many vigorous steps of financial planning should be done from all parties involved in any long term agreement in order to consider the time value of money in regards to futuristic costs and benefits. Alternative Courses of Action Free PESA Software with Purchase. Rather than regarding the PESA R D as a sunk cost, I chose to distribute the costs to every server. The price under this route was determined to be $2,122 (see Appendix B). The primary drawback is that a customer who would have normally purchased the Tronn without the software would be charged a higher price ($2,122 vs. $2,000). Continuing with the tradition and norm of free software, staff would not have to be retrained and customers will not feel alienated. Furthermore, the one bundle price could easily be transitioned to on line sales, and the low price will increase market share. The free software could create an illusion of low perceived value. Finally, the lower price will result in lower profit margins, and it does not take into consideration the value advantage received by the customer. Competition Based Pricing. The price under this route was determined to be $3,400 (see Appendix C). Under this route, the company will earn more profit per bundle sold. Additionally, minimal effort is required to determine the price. However, the competition based pricing creates indifference between the Atlantic Bundle and its competition. The higher price will also reduce market share and could stir a pricing war. Cost Plus. The price under this route was determined to be $2,245 (see Appendix D). • 29. The Simple Soul In The Phaedo And The Republic Within this essay, I am going to argue that the simple soul is a more plausible conception than the idea of multiplicity within the soul within Plato s work. This is due to the multiplicity of the soul resting on a circular argument of Plato s ideal city which in turn rests back upon his idea of the tripartite soul. However, it can also be argued that neither conceptions of the soul are plausible due to them both relying on Plato s theory of the Forms. Throughout Plato s works of the Phaedo and the Republic, his account for the soul is conflicting as Plato s two accounts cannot be reconciled. I will also refer to Plato s work in the Phaedrus to aid my explanation of the multiplicity within the soul. Simplicity of the soul Plato s theory of the simplicity of the soul is seen in the Phaedo. Through the mouthpiece of Socrates, Plato argues for a simple soul which only has one true aim. He states that the soul only seeks truth and that all other senses and experiences are merely distractions through the soul being embodied the soul reasons best when none of these senses troubles it, neither hearing nor sight, nor pain nor pleasure, but when it is most by itself, taking leave of the body and as far as possible having no contact or association with it in its search for reality. (Plato, 1997, §65c). The simple soul can only aim to grasp the truth of reality which it gets closer to as man becomes closer to death. Antitrust laws were laws made to reduce competition between companies and prevent monopolies from forming (National Industrial Recovery Act of 1933). Since these codes did not apply to antitrust laws it basically gave businesses the opportunity to create monopolies. After monopolies were created, it had raised the prices on goods and services. That is certainly not the best thing for an economy, and to add more fuel to the fire deflation was also a major problem during this time. Deflation is the lowering of the price of goods and services. These higher prices were made on purpose to allow people like farmers to prosper. Their theory of higher prices equals more prosperity failed miserably and made the economy just stop. The prices ended up being too high, and that did absolutely nothing for the economy or the people (National Industrial Recovery Act (1933)). • 34. The Importance Of Cognitive Development In Willy Wonka And... Childhood, as we all know, is the state or period of being a child; the early period in the development of something (Merriam Webster). The movie Willy Wonka the Chocolate Factory (1971) illustrates five different children with each having different behavior, and they have one thing in common they are the only child in their family. These children are in the middle childhood, primary school age, around age seven or eight. What makes them different from each other is interesting. It allows the viewers to think if their behavior is either result of their experience or how they were raised. How they perceive things and how they behave are part of their cognitive development. The major domain of early childhood development is their cognitive development and the arguable aspects of the Nature Nurture. The term cognition refers to how the mind operates and the study of cognitive development focuses on how the mind thinks and learns during the early years of life (Universal Class, Inc.). The major premise of Piaget s theory is that children go through various stages of cognitive development, all of which are distinct from one another and influenced by both nature and nurture.
