Moreover, Marg is accredited for its expertise in Emergenetics which is well
acclaimed for its approach to employee profiling. It delves into individual
thinking and behavioral preferences. This accreditation enables Marg to tailor
training and coaching programs that resonate with the unique cognitive styles
and personalities of its clients’ teams, leading to enhanced collaboration,
productivity, and job satisfaction.

the proven methodologies of Human Synergistics. By focusing on cultural
dynamics and fostering positive organizational behaviors, Marg assists
companies in achieving lasting cultural transformations that drive
performance, engagement, and overall success.
What makes Marg stand out in the market?
Marg’s unique selling propositions (USPs) are
centered around their exceptional team and
customer experience. From the initial contact
with the business development managers to the
training sessions conducted by skilled trainers and
the seamless coordination by the operations team,
Marg ensures that every interaction is professional
and upholds their high standards, which they refer
to as the “Marg standard.”
Clients consistently praise Marg for delivering

highlighting the company’s commitment to
prioritizing customer satisfaction at every step of
the process. This dedication to excellence and the
acknowledgment of having the best team in the
industry are key factors that set Marg apart and
contribute to their success in the market.
Case study
Sudeshna and her team at Marg worked with a big industry giant in solving a major issue with its management. But, this
time the focus of the company shifted from traditional manager training to a comprehensive assessment aimed at diagnosing
underlying issues within the client’s organization. Owing to diagnostic assessments of the culture, it became evident that a
recurring problem was disrupting employee satisfaction and performance was a lack of role clarity among managers.
Rather than simply addressing the symptom of managerial shortcomings through training programs, Marg wanted to dig the
roots for a deeper understanding of the underlying issue. And owing to her dedication, it was revealed that the organization’s
job descriptions and competency profiling were not well defined. And this one error led to a great deal of confusion and
dissatisfaction among managers and their teams.
After addressing and resolving this root cause, Marg engaged into the organization’s collective understanding of the issue.
The company was able to proceed with a successful cultural transformation. The team was aligning as per the leadership
practices, job roles, and organizational culture to cultivate better clarity and effectiveness across all levels.
It is truly remarkable that the team delves beyond surface-level symptoms and addresses systemic challenges to drive
meaningful change and organizational improvement.
In sync with market trends
Marg’s operational model relies on staying ahead of the market trends. Their business approach is research-driven with
a ceaseless focus on updating and refreshing their knowledge base every two years through collaboration with ProSci.
This research efficacy ensures that the company remains well-informed about the evolving reasons and dynamics behind
organizational change.
In the wake of global shifts like the pandemic, the reasons driving organizational change have undergone significant
transformation. Marg recognizes the importance of understanding the day-to-day challenges faced by organizations and
individuals in various sectors, such as the impact of emerging technologies like AI, changing economic scenarios, and sector-
specific challenges like those faced by aviation, hospitality, and retail industries.
By keeping their “ears and eyes open” to industry developments and actively seeking out information, Marg stays abreast of
macroeconomic trends, industry shifts, and evolving challenges faced by different sectors.
This comprehensive understanding allows them to tailor solutions that address the specific needs and pain points of their
clients, ensuring relevance and effectiveness in an ever-changing business landscape.
Insights on women entrepreneurship
As a successful businesswoman and entrepreneur, Sudeshna is deeply interested in discussing women’s entrepreneurship
in today’s business world. But she is also concerned that despite the phenomenal progress, women still face challenges in
securing equal leadership roles, considering the fact that women make up half of humanity.
She believes that organizations should view their workforce as human resources, not gender-specific ones, to create inclusive
environments that support everyone. Family responsibilities often hinder women’s professional growth, and female leaders
need to overcome these barriers collectively, she added.
For the future ahead, she envisions a world where men and women share equal responsibilities at home and work. Also, she
is focused on eliminating the need to categorize success by gender. Hence, she emphasizes focusing on capabilities rather than
gender to recognize leaders in an effective manner.

The leadership mantra
When asked to share her mantra as a leader, Sudeshna advocates that a
true leader is someone who not only achieves results and growth for the
organization but also mobilizes and empowers people to deliver those
results. She emphasizes that effective leaders are those who cultivate
and develop other leaders within the organization. In founder-driven
organizationslikeMarg,theleadershipqualityisoftentiedtothecapabilities
of the founders, which can sometimes limit the growth potential of the
organization. However, Sudeshna is pleased to note that at Marg, the next
level of leadership has been well-developed, with individuals exhibiting
similar qualities and actions as the founders. This focus on nurturing
leadership at all levels is seen as crucial for sustained success and growth.
Geographical expansion
As shared by Sudeshna, Marg is all set to expand its services by delving deeper into diagnostics, assessments, problem statement
identification, solutioning, and deployment. Under her guidance, the brand would scale up its consulting strives majorly in the
coming years. The efforts would be focused on areas such as change management and cultural transformation.
The major alignment of the futuristic operations would be to provide end-to-end solutions, from pinpointing issues through
diagnostics and assessments to implementing solutions and rolling out comprehensive plans. Marg aims to enhance its
consulting capabilities to cater to the evolving needs of organizations undergoing transformations and seeking assistance in
navigating the people-centric aspects of change.
Headquartered in Bangalore with an office wing in New Delhi, Marg’s trainers operate pan-India. In the coming years,
they would strengthen their presence further across India. Adapting to the trends of virtual and face-to-face offerings in a
technologically advanced manner. On top of that, Marg is also developing tailored programs for key roles such as chief of staffs,
HR business partners (HRBPs), non-finance professionals needing financial expertise, and auditors for fintech purposes. Also,
Sudeshna is creating a roadmap to strategically expand its operations to penetrate markets in Mexico and Qatar. By targeting
these markets, she said they are aiming for continued growth and impact in the consulting landscape.

A catalyst in social entrepreneurship
reshaping millions of lives
This time we happened to feature the profile of EFICOR, a national
relief and development agency, which has been highly involved
withthecommunitiesaffectedbythemostpressingissues.Thecore
humanitarian standard that the leadership of the establishment
believes in addressing issues across communities affected by
various societal issues. In 1967, EFICOR was established in
response to a devastating drought in Bihar, triggering a severe
famine. Initially named the Evangelical Fellowship of India
Committee on Emergency Relief, its formation was prompted by
members of EFI responding to the crisis by fundraising through
their official magazine, AIM.
To uncover the length and breadth of the institution, we sat down
with Mr. M. Ramesh Babu, Executive Director, in a freewheeling
conversation. Let’s dive into the narrative based on the excerpt of
conversation held with Mr. Babu.
Insight into EFICOR
Founded in 1967, EFICOR emerged in response to a devastating
famine that struck Bihar and Jharkhand, claiming numerous lives
alongside subjecting people to extreme hardship that stirred a
wave of humanitarian initiatives by thought leaders. Driven by a
collective of visionary leaders, EFICOR initiated relief operations
to aid those in desperate need. Since its inception, the organization
has excelled in executing diverse relief initiatives with remarkable
efficiency, providing crucial assistance during times of crisis.
EFICORhascultivatedexpertiseindisasterresponseandlivelihood
support, maternal health, food security, supporting disability in
people, marginalized section support, modern slavery, etc. Serving
the impoverished and marginalized across the nation. EFICOR,
supported by a dedicated team of 100+ professionals, extends its
operations across 13+ states, our unwavering commitment lies
in assisting individuals without discrimination based on caste,
creed, or religious affiliation, especially during times of poverty,
injustice, and disaster.
Beyond immediate relief efforts, the organization actively engages
in participatoryTraining and Capacity Building programs. These
initiatives are designed to educate and sensitize individuals,
groups, and institutions about the pressing issues of justice
and holistic development. Through these programs, EFICOR
endeavors to empower communities and foster a deeper
understanding of the complexities surrounding social justice and
comprehensive advancement.
Forte: Offering climate change adaptations
solutions
Mr M. Ramesh Babu emphasized the profound impact of climate
change on people’s livelihoods, highlighting the harrowing
consequences of numerous natural calamities that have struck
ultimate aspiration is to mitigate the human toll and economic
impact of such crises, striving to reduce both the loss of lives
and the devastation of livelihoods.
Discussing the aftermath of these events, Ramesh explained
that numerous flood-prone regions demonstrated remarkable
resilience in the face of calamity. This resilience can be attributed
to the invaluable coping mechanisms imparted by EFICOR to
the vulnerable local communities dwelling in these areas.
EFICOR’s proactive efforts in educating and preparing these
communities have significantly contributed to their ability to
withstand and respond to flooding incidents. Through targeted
training and preparedness programs, EFICOR equipped locals
with practical skills and knowledge essential for mitigating the
impact of such disasters.
If we talk of the impact created by them, the initiatives became
evident as these flood-affected areas exhibited a commendable
ability to cope with the crisis. As per Mr. Ramesh building local
capacities for local works, communities are armed with unique
strategies and techniques as per their specialized programs
that resulted in a resilient spirit. It has effectively increased the
success rate of coping mechanisms to minimize the adverse
effects of the flooding, safeguard lives, and protect essential
infrastructure.
Strategic Roadmap to Serve Communities
with Improved Performance
“Our strategic directions are focused on creating an improved
community resilience and quality of life in line with Sustainable
Development Goals. We would keep striving to make
communities informed, equipped, and influenced individuals
and organizations/groups engaged with the vulnerable
communities to propel them towards a better life. We aspired
to offer diversified resource opportunities for the continuity of
the organizational work among the communities.
Additionally, in order to implement the plan to reach the last
mile, important structural changes have been brought in where
our team members will be operating from new zonal offices in
Bengaluru, Nagpur, New Delhi and Motihari (Bihar). Resource
mobilization is another aspect where we will be developing a
roadmap to mobilize new resources from within and outside
the country. Our intrinsic plan is to prominently partner
with corporates and business houses to develop innovative
interventions benefiting communities and contributing to
national progress. All of these represent the combined efforts
of all our stakeholders and our organization is immensely
grateful for the contribution of all those who supported us
Indian territories over the past two decades. These disasters
have not only resulted in the tragic loss of lives but also
inflicted substantial damage on critical infrastructure.
In response to this pressing scenario, EFICOR embarked
on a transformative initiative: a community-based
adaptation program. This pioneering endeavor aims to
empower communities by focusing on essential aspects
such as watershed management, disaster preparedness
and building Resilience. The overarching goal is to equip
individuals with the knowledge, skills, and resources
necessary to effectively manage and navigate natural
calamities. EFICOR worked on District Climate Resilience
Plans (DCRP) in collaboration with UNICEF India and
CANSA in three districts of Madhya Pradesh – Khandwa,
Damoh, and Barwani.
The core principle behind this initiative is to foster resilience
among communities. By imparting crucial skills and
knowledge, EFICOR seeks to enable individuals to confront
and manage unforeseen natural disasters adeptly. The

DISTINCT WAYS
TO CULTIVATE A
THRIVING
WORKPLACE
9
What is your definition of creating a thriving workplace? Well, it isn’t just
about ping pong tables and free snacks (although those can be nice perks!).
Basically, a thriving workplace is all about fostering an environment that
prioritizes the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of its employees.
And we all know how happy and content employees can create a way to
improve productivity, engagement, and retention.
1. Establish Work-Life Balance: First, make sure to provide flexible work hours for your team members. To add a
cherry on top of it, offer remote work options, flexible schedules, and generous paid time off to allow employees to control their
time and meet their personal needs.
2. Disconnect and recharge: If you
wish to see your business thrive, just allow
your employees to set boundaries and truly
disconnect after work hours. This could involve
setting expectations for email response times and
discouraging late-night communication. Moreover,
try to provide access to mental health resources and
initiatives like mindfulness programs or Employee
Assistance Programs (EAPs) to help them process
their emotions in an efficient way while reducing
their stress.
3. Prioritize Physical Health and
Wellness: Investing in an ergonomic workplace
could do wonders to your goal. You need to invest
in comfortable furniture, adjustable workstations,
and proper lighting to prevent physical discomfort
and injuries. Along with that, you can offer healthy
choices in your own cafeteria or break room, and
encourage breaks for movement and activity. Also,
you can host fitness challenges, health fairs, or on-
site fitness classes to promote healthy habits and
employee engagement.
4. Establish open communication
and Psychological Safety: Try to create
a culture of open communication by encouraging
employees to voice their opinions, concerns, and
ideas without fear of judgment or reprisal. But
before this, you need to ensure active listening on
your own. Leaders should make time to listen to
employees’ concerns and feedback, and take their
input seriously.
5. Build trust and psychological
safety: The management of your company
should focus on team building activities and social
events to help employees feel connected and
comfortable with each other.
6. Recognize and Reward
Achievements: One should regularly
acknowledge and appreciate
employees’ contributions under any
circumstances. Either it could be through
verbal praise, written recognition, or performance-
based rewards.
7. Offer opportunities for growth and
development: Provide training programs,
mentorship opportunities, and career development
resources to help employees reach their full potential.
Alongside this, celebrating successes together like
organizing team outings, recognition events, or
company-wide celebrations to boost morale and
foster a sense of community make a huge difference.
8. Lead by Example: Leaders should set
the tone by taking care of their own health and
well-being. This could involve practicing work-life
balance, prioritizing physical activity, and openly
discussing mental health challenges. Promote a
culture of respect and inclusivity. Leaders should
be mindful of their own biases and actively work to
create an environment where everyone feels valued
and respected.

9.Beauthenticandtransparent:The most significant one would
be leaders being open and honest with employees concerning the company’s
goals, challenges, and successes. It is a well-asserted fact that by implementing
these strategies companies could create a work environment that is not only
productive but also supportive, healthy, and fulfilling for their employees.
The key takeaways
No one can deny the fact that happy and healthy employees

where organizations are constantly searching for ways to gain an edge. And workplace diversity is
a highly discussed factor, but does it truly translate to a boost in productivity? In response to this,
like most aspects in companies, boosting productivity is complex that comes from potential pros

1. Escalated Creativity and Innovation: Teammates hailing from diverse backgrounds bring together a wider range of experiences
and perspectives to the table. It is said to be leading out-of-the-box thinking and novel solutions. It is truly amazing that in 2019 one
of McKinsey’s studies found that companies with the highest levels of ethnic and cultural diversity on their executive teams were
36% more likely to outperform the less diverse teams on profitability.
2. Improved Problem-Solving:
It is well elucidated by business
leaders that when diverse
viewpoints are represented,
blind spots are less likely to be
missed. In a collaborative way, it
can lead to more comprehensive
and effective solutions to
complex challenges.
3. Better Employee Engagement:
It goes without saying that
if employees feel valued and
included regardless of their
background, they tend to be
more motivated, engaged, and
invested in their work. And
better employee engagement
could directly translate to
increased productivity and
loyalty. Integration and inclusion
are crucial for unlocking the full
potential of diversity.
Well, we talked about the pros of having workplace diversity and now we need to talk of the cons. Here are some potential roadblocks
that could cause ruckus too in a work environment of which the management needs to be in the know:
1. Communication and Collaboration Challenges: Impactful communication and collaboration skills are essential for diverse
teams to thrive along the business trajectory. Training and support can be necessary to ensure everyone feels heard and
understood.
2. Bullying and biasness: Even in diverse workplaces at big establishments, bullying and biased behavior can rear its head. And
this could directly hinder inclusivity and collaboration. Well, if management keeps addressing and combating bias, it could
maximize the benefits of diversity.
3. Measuring the Impact: Quantifying the precise impact of diversity on productivity remains a complex challenge. Factors like
company culture, industry, and leadership styles all play a role.
The takeaways
It is a direct cause-and-effect relationship between diversity and productivity. And it is difficult to pinpoint with
evidence that increasingly supports the notion that diversity, coupled with effective inclusion practice. Workplace
diversity is a great driver of innovation, problem-solving, and eventually brings business success. Companies that
create diverse and inclusive environments are not only doing the right thing for their employees but also building
a strong foundation for themselves in this competitive world in the long run. Remember, creating a truly diverse
and inclusive workplace is an ongoing journey, not a destination. By fostering a culture of mutual respect, open
communication, and continuous learning, organizations can harness the immense power of diversity and unlock their
full productive potential.

launched the website (www.jamecho.com) and the software
for Jamecho Talent Assess Test (JTAT).
Edu2fly Program (study abroad), Career Counseling with the
JTAT, UNIGEN and The Chakra View (customized training
modules for the corporate sector), and Visa and Immigration
Counseling are the four programmes they are now catering
to all while ensuring that their clients receive the best advice,
support, and guidance possible.
The Tale of Jamecho’s Inception: How It All Started
It all began over dinner at the North Delhi restaurant Boa Village.
As fate would have it, Ayaan Mehra had a breakthrough idea while
looking at a billboard that would revolutionise how students are
guided through their educational endeavors. With sheer excitement,
he shared this vision with his best friend, Arhaan Chopra.
“When my best friend, and now business partner, Ayaan Mehra
approached me with just an idea; After careful consideration and with
the urge and hunger to do something big, we turned this ‘idea’ into
what today is known as Jamecho”, revealed Arhaan.
Jamecho was founded with the mission of assisting students and
professionals in achieving their goals and realising their potential
as a result of their combined passion and determination.
As the saying goes, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you
want to go far, go together.” Building a company is a teamwork
that benefits from the many viewpoints and expertise of a
reliable team rather than being a single player. So, Ayaan keeps
surrounding himself with the right partners to elevate this
business to new heights.
Significant Industry Transformations in the Indian Startup
Ecosystem
Over the Past two months, the team has witnessed a significant
transformation in the startup, thanks to visionary initiatives
such as Startup India, Digital India, and Aatmanirbhar
Bharat spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. These
initiatives have produced an environment that encourages
entrepreneurship and gives people the freedom to follow their
aspirations. The startup environment is now bursting at the
seams with potential and opportunity, empowering business
owners to unleash their ground-breaking concepts and leave a
lasting impression.
Leadership Approach: To Transform a Team into a Force of
Innovation
Imagine a leader who is eager to lead the globe and has eyes
that sparkle with ambition. Team Jamecho firmly believes in
the ability of a compelling vision to spark their spirits.
“Leadership is the magical art of inspiring
others to reach for the stars”, said Ayaan.
Jamecho strives to create a world where dreams of success and
fulfillment paints a vivid picture of their purpose, mission,
and long-term goals. The directors use their leadership role
to motivate the team to become a driving force in innovation
and excellence. They strive to create a cauldron simmering
with cooperation, innovation, and limitless possibilities by
establishing a lively and inclusive work environment.
“The ambitious business professionals understand the need
for clear and consistent communication because they are the
harbingerofchange.Inordertobringourteammemberstogether
and have a strong external brand presence, communication
of our startup’s values, vision, and objective is essential”,
according to Ayaan. They create a shared understanding
among the team members and gain the trust and credibility of
the stakeholders by clearly stating their purpose and goals, both
internally and externally. They move confidently and clearly
through the entrepreneurial landscape thanks to transparent
and convincing communication.
Every business needs a dream team—a group of exceptional
individuals who are not afraid to take on obstacles. Jamecho
looks for extraordinary individuals who not only have
the required abilities but also share the same beliefs and
enthusiasm about shaping futures. By nurturing their growth
and unlocking their full potential, They have brewed a potion
for unparalleled success.
Sharing his views on leadership,
Arhaan stated, “I believe
Leadership is an ongoing process
of development and progress.
Effective leaders recognise that
leadership is a lifelong process of
sharpening abilities, extending
knowledge, and developing with
the changing circumstances. Leaders
are people who are dedicated to
continued learning, self-reflection,
and development. Being a leader
entails motivating, directing, and
swaying others towards a common
vision or objective through honesty,
effective communication, empathy,
decision-making, teamwork, and
flexibility. At the end of the day all
Individuals, teams, organisations,
and communities will be able to
benefit from such a dynamic and
transforming process.”
The Work Culture. Focused on
Transparency, Trust, and Respect
The work culture at Jamecho
is characterised by open
communication, trust, and a flat
organisational structure. The
directors, being youthful leaders,
value every suggestion and
perspective from team members,
promoting a culture where their
opinions are valued and respected.
“We are firm believers in lifelong
learning and development, and
R&D is a key component of our
growth strategy. We keep ahead
of the curve by continually asking
ourselves how we can improve our
services and make a difference,
the inspirational leader said while
shedding additional light on the
work environment at Jamecho.”
Jamecho’s Future: Expanding Their
Reach and Impact
“As we envision a future where
success is driven by effective
leadership and collaboration, our
mission at Jamecho is to nurture a
culture that fosters innovation and
empowers individuals and teams.”
Ayaan Mehra
Their long-term goals revolve
around increasing their influence
and reach. They strive to make
Jamecho a renowned brand that
proudly represents students and
their aspirations. Collaboration
with organisations and educational
institutions that share their
objectives is essential for the
company’s development and success. As the team conducts in-depth research and
development, the creative Jamecho programmes, like Edu2fly, Unigen, JTAT, The
Chakra View, and Visa Counselling, will continue to change and advance. The
company is further aiming to forge strategic partnerships domestically and globally,
ultimately touching the lives of more students and individuals across the world.
A Piece of Advice for Budding Entrepreneurs
You can only advance by stepping outside your comfort zone. Ayaan advises budding
business owners to value efficient communication, foster reliable relationships, and
welcome challenges. Keep in mind that success depends on your capacity for clear
vision, smooth collaboration, and persistently pushing yourself outside of your
comfort zone.
“when you have a dream to chase you are
the only one that can stop you.”
Ayaan Mehra.
Arhaan suggests aspiring entrepreneurs to give continual learning and personal
development a top priority. Accept downfalls as a learning experience and do not get
disheartened that will help you succeed, surround yourself with encouraging people,
and pursue your passion with tenacity.
“We are trying to change the way consultation is perceived in
the world of education”,
shared the visionaries.

From Parking to Retail:
HOW DO AIRPORTS
MAKE MONEY?
Airports are not just places where planes land and take off. They are com-
plex businesses with multiple revenue streams. From retail and food conces-
sions to parking fees and airline fees, airports generate revenue from a va-
riety of sources. In this article, we will explore how airports actually make
money and provide examples to illustrate the different revenue streams.
Advertising
Airports also generate revenue from advertising. Companies pay to advertise their products or services in the
airport terminal building. The airport benefits from the revenue generated by the advertising For example,
Heathrow Airport in London has advertising space throughout the terminal building, including billboards,
digital screens, and sponsorship opportunities. Companies pay to advertise in these spaces, and the airport
receives revenue from the advertising.
Conclusion
Airports are complex businesses that generate revenue from a variety of sources. Airline fees, retail and food concessions, parking
fees, rental car concessions, and advertising are just a few of the revenue streams for airports. Each revenue stream requires careful
management and planning to ensure that the airport is profitable. Understanding how airports make money is important for pas-
sengers and airline industry professionals, as it provides insight into the challenges and opportunities facing the aviation industry.
What are the sources of income for airports?
Airline Fees
One of the primary revenue streams for airports is airline fees. Airlines pay landing fees, gate fees, and terminal fees to use the
airport’s facilities. Landing fees are based on the weight of the aircraft and the distance flown. Gate fees are charged for the use of
a specific gate, and terminal fees cover the cost of using the terminal facilities. These fees can vary depending on the airport, and
some airports offer incentives to airlines to encourage them to use their facilities.
For example, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the busiest airport in the world, charges landing fees based on air-
craft weight and charges a gate fee of $8.60 per 1,000 pounds of maximum gross weight. The airport also charges a terminal fee of
$4.50 per passenger.
Retail and Food Concessions
Airports also generate revenue from retail and food concessions. These businesses pay rent to the airport to operate in the terminal
building. The airport benefits from the rent and a percentage of the revenue generated by the businesses. Retail and food con-
cessions are popular with travelers, who often have time to eat before their flights. This revenue stream has become increasingly
important for airports as airlines have cut back on services such as in-flight meals.
For example, John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York has a variety of retail and food options for passengers, including
luxury brands such as Hermes and Gucci, as well as fast-food chains like McDonald’s and Dunkin’ Donuts. These businesses pay
rent to the airport, and the airport receives a percentage of their revenue.
Parking Fees
Another revenue stream for airports is parking fees. Airports charge passengers for parking their vehicles in the airport parking
lots. The fees can vary depending on the duration of the parking, the location of the parking lot, and the level of service provided.
Some airports offer valet parking and shuttle services to and from the terminal building.
For example, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport charges $24 per day for parking in the terminal garages and $10 per day for
parking in the remote parking lots. The airport also offers valet parking for $34 per day.
Rental Car Concessions
Rental car concessions are another revenue stream for airports. Rental car companies pay rent to the airport to operate in the airport
terminal building. The airport also receives a percentage of the revenue generated by rental car companies.
For example, Los Angeles International Airport has rental car companies such as Hertz, Avis, and Enterprise operating in the air-
port terminal building. These companies pay rent to the airport, and the airport receives a percentage of their revenue.

Ryma Foodtech
Empowering the Cultivation of Prawns Naturally
and Locally
I
ndia is the third-largest producer of marine products like fish and
prawns. 7.96% of the world’s total fish production comes from it.
Steadily turning into a significant part of the nation, the sector employs
more than 28 million people. For the past ten years, India’s marine
production has been rapidly increasing, and it is expected to have 100–150%
growth within the next 5 years.
Ryma Foodtech Private Limited, an Odisha-based firm, is empowering the
natural shrimp industry in India with its innovative approach. Established
in 2022, the company has a strong founding team led by a management
expert, Amit Ailawadi, an IT expert, Jyoti Ailawadi, and an Aquaculture
expert, Dinakrushna Nayak.
Backed by a blend of modern technological advancements, principles, and
practical experience in the cultivation of prawns and aquaculture locally in
their own 25 ponds spread across 20 acres of land, Ryma envisions bringing
a ray of hope for the local farmers where they can learn, earn, and grow.
The company is working on this project at various levels.
Ryma strives to break the existing nexus in the aquamarine sector of India.
Farmer’s Dilemma !
Make no mistake: For a small-time farmer, cultivating shrimp is a mammoth
task.
Like any other crop, they require certain elements like ponds, seeds, feed,
medicine, oil, and equipment.
The first step of production is to plant the seeds, the tiny offspring of the
crops, in specific, parameter-maintained water ponds. After the seeds are
planted, it is vital to provide them with feed, frequent medication, and
constant monitoring to ensure that there are no viruses, germs, or other
issues that could affect the crop.
Next, a water-churning device called an “aerator” is used. Churning water
is needed as it provides the fish with sufficient oxygen to breathe and makes
the pond habitat similar to that of the ocean.
These machines run either on oil or electricity. Primarily, wherever these
crops are being produced, like in Odisha or Kerela, they do not have top-
notch infrastructure. People in rural areas mostly use generators because
either there is no electricity or it can’t be relied upon.
Furthermore, in this business, there is a nexus for everything!
For instance, usually farmers lack the funds needed to purchase seeds and
turn to product distributors. The distributors provide them with seeds on the
condition that they get additional money over the actual price of the seeds
(as interest) post-production. Farmers have to make similar arrangements
for other necessities like feed, medicine, and oil.
The exploitation of farmers doesn’t end here. After successfully growing the
crop, they need to sell their harvest.
Then comes the friendly neighbour exporter in
the picture. (Well, not so friendly, actually.)
These exporters provide the necessary additional
funding for the farmers’ crops on the further
condition that the crop, once fully grown, would
be sold to only them at the ongoing prevailing
rate. This rate is decided by none other than the
exporters themselves.
To get a better understanding of how farmers
are exploited in this process, Ryma’s Managing
Director, Amit Ailawadi, explains further through
an example:
Prawn’s Crop is usually grown 2–3 times a year.
The first season or culture is from January to
April. Due to the low life cycle of the crop, farmers
can’t hold it after the fourth month of production.
Amit Ailawadi
Founder
Meet the Leaders
Amit Ailawadi, the Founder of “Ryma Foodtech”, is driving the
achievements of the firm forward and essentially rewriting its
success story. With 22 years of rich experience in Management
and IT, he has a proven track record of spearheading projects
for prestigious firms like Microsoft, Cisco, and Hewlett-
Packard as Global IT head for a multinational company.
He is also the founder of an IT firm, Ryma Technologies, and a
construction company, Rapid Bricks Inc.
In 2020, with the thought of doing something for the welfare
of society, he started research in the interiors and untouched
parts of India. He realised that there are many small,
underdeveloped villages with limited resources. To empower
them, he came up with the idea of Ryma Foodtech and piloted
it in 2022.
Along with
him, his team
is led by Jyoti
Ailawadi and
Dinakrushna
Nayak.
Jyoti is a graduate of Delhi University. With 22 years of
experience, she is the Marketing and Operations head for
Ryma Technologies (USA and Canada), and she has been
actively leading the team to new heights.
Dinakrushna, with 15 years of experience in aquaculture,
is the local face of management for the project in the
state of Odisha.
Ideally, if the crop’s total cost
per kg, including production
and interest, comes to Rs. 250,
the market price of the raw
crop should be Rs. 350. This
ensures a Rs. 100 margin, or
a handsome profit margin of
40%, for farmers per season.
However, since the exporters
know the restriction of farmers
to hold the crop beyond the
given timeframe, they would
smartly reduce the prevailing
price drastically to say Rs. 240
(a price even less than the cost incurred by the farmers).
A farmer at this time would have no choice other than to sell
the crop at a loss and fall back into debt by having to pay a
balance of Rs. 10 along with interest to be adjusted during the
next season.
During the next crop season, the price would normalise
back from Rs. 240 to Rs. 350. Clearing the farmer’s financial
backlog, making them content, and ensuring they would look
forward to planting the third crop as well, not realising that
the exporters are managing the show and keeping them under
their clutches.
It should be noted that the actual retail price at which
the crop is sold overseas after processing comes to
approx. Rs. 5500–6000 per kg (15 to 20 times higher
than the farmer’s selling price) and has little or no
impact on the procurement price for exporters.
The idea of Ryma Foodtech was conceptualised to break this
nexus, and they are doing this by uniting small farmers along
with them.
Mr. Ailawadi says, keeping global demand and the current
growth rate in consideration, this is undoubtedly one of the
most promising and profitable ventures for the near future,
and in the process, their organisation intends to work for the
welfare of the common farmers of the country as well.
So far, in a short span of 8 months since its inception, 200+ small
farmers owning over 275 farms have associated themselves
with Ryma for efficient management, bulk pricing advantages,
and assurance of a fair market price for their respective crops.
“The team contacts the manufacturers directly to
negotiate the best prices for input products like feed,
seed, and medication. This lowers the operating costs
and thus leaves greater room for margins. This is more
like a communal advantage for farmers. So this is the
whole idea,”
adds the visionary leader.
Project Plan: At a Glance
• Phase 1: Initial Self-Farm Creation and Farmer Pool
(Already Complete)
• Phase 2: Focus on Sizeable Production (Currently in
progress)
• Phase 3: Exporting the Product
• Phase 4: Sharing and Replicating the Business Model with
State Governments and Administrative Bodies
• Phase 5: Crowdfunding and Global Expansion
As a part of Phase 4, Mr. Ailawadi and his team are already
in discussions with numerous DMs in the states of Odisha,
Jharkhand, Kerela, and Bihar.
Many of them have agreed to provide land, support, and
subsidies. For Project Phase 5, Ryma intends to utilise the 200
acres of additional land that they own through crowdfunding.
Ryma would offer foreign investors ownership of a geotagged
pond with assured fixed annual returns.
The Investors would just need to pay for the management and
setup, and Ryma’s team would do the rest.

A Sustainable Agribusiness In India
Agriculture is vital to the Indian
economy. According to the Economic
Survey 2021, the share of agriculture in
India’s GDP has increased to almost 20
percent in 2021. Farming in the traditional
way is no longer a guarantee of profit.
Through innovations in farming, farmers
can increase their income if they wish.
Recently, the Indian Government’s
industrial policy and innovative
creativity have encouraged research
and entrepreneurship in mushroom
cultivation. It has a lot of potential as a
money maker. It is light-independent,
feeds on organic matter, and does not
require fertile soil to grow.
India’s unemployment rate has risen to 6.8 % and
the youth is no longer confident of jobs. In such a
situation, the interest of the educated youth has
shifted more towards sustainable agribusiness.
Farmers are making good profits in small areas by
doing mushroom cultivation in a modern way. The
Mushroom Cultivation Market is projected to be
worth USD 16.7 billion in 2021, rising at a CAGR of 4%
from 2021 to 2026, to hit a value of USD 20.4 billion.
Rajkumari Binita Devi, a mushroom cultivator from
Manipur, is a great example of someone who was
influenced by experience and was able to make a
fortune and receive awards despite being an unskilled
mushroom cultivator.
WHAT IS A MUSHROOM?
A mushroom (Kukurmutta in Hindi) is a fungus’
umbrella-shaped fruit. It is a tasty food that is enjoyed
by both children and elders all over the world. It’s also
known as “the future vegetable,” as it’s a guarantee
against food shortages, hunger, and medicinal value.
With the increasing population across the globe,
Mushroom demand has risen recently, because
mushrooms meet the needs of health-conscious
consumers and are a desirable alternative food,
especially for vegetarians.
“One of the major agricultural industries on the
earth is mushroom processing.”
MUSHROOM CULTIVATION
46
NUTRITIONAL VALUE OF
MUSHROOMS
Mushrooms have a low-fat
content and are high in simple
carbohydrates. They’re also rich in
digestible protein, high molecular
weight polysaccharides, and a
decent source of fibre, among
other nutrients. Mushrooms also
contain unsatu rated fatty acids,
which account for more than 70%
of total fatty acid content, as well
as essential fatty acids, are low
in calories, and high in vegetable
proteins, minerals, and vitamins.
They also contain a lot of secondary
metabolites, which may be useful
in nutraceuticals, pharmacology,
and medicine. Some mushrooms
have anti-inflammatory properties
that can help prevent diseases like
hypertension, hypercholesterolemia,
atherosclerosis, and cancer.
HISTORY
About 600 A.D., the first
mushroom, “Auricularia auricula”,
was cultivated. “Flammulina
velutipes” is later cultivated
in China around 800-900 A. D.
Commercial mushroom farming
has only recently begun in
India, with Himachal Pradesh,
Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh,
Maharashtra, Bihar, Madhya
Pradesh, Manipur, Tamil Nadu,
and Karnataka leading the way.
Andhra Pradesh is a big producer
of mushrooms.
Training of Mushroom cultivation
in India Various government and
non-governmental organisations
(NGOs) in India provide mushroom
cultivation instruction. Dr. Rajendra
Prasad Central Agricultural
University, Pusa, Samastipur,
Bihar and National Research
Centre for Mushroom (NRCM),
Solan, Himachal Pradesh are
pioneer educational institutes.
A “Mushroom Cultivation
Technology” online training
program is also available. Farmers,
as well as entrepreneurs, would
benefit from training programs.
It is possible to have mushroom
production three times a year
because the length of 45 to 60
days is adequate for mushroom
production. Diabetes flour, pickles,
cookies, papad, and protein diet
powder are made from mushrooms.
TYPES OF MUSHROOM
Button mushrooms, oyster
mushrooms, and paddy straw
mushrooms are the three primary
varieties of mushroom harvest.
These mushrooms are important in
their own right, and they develop
in different ways using different
techniques and methods. To grow
mushrooms, a special bed known as
a compost bed is prepared.
Cost of Mushroom Cultivation
in India In India, the total cost of
mushroom cultivation is around
INR 1,50,00 0. Scrap Wooden
Shelves (Rs. 20,000), Room
Construction Costs (INR 1,25,000),
and other Miscellaneous Costs are
included (Rs. 5000).
Growth
Final Thoughts
Mushroom cultivation is now India’s most
active and profitable sector. It is rapidly
gaining popularity in India because it
turns farmers’ hard work into benefits
in a short period. Agri-entrepreneurship
programs especially in mushroom
cultivation that involve capacity building
and access to funds for youth should
flourish to solve India’s brain drain issue.
What today’s youth lack is the inspiration
and entrepreneurship to see agriculture’s
promise and prospects?. Youths are a
source of creativity and a strong source of
inspiration for others.

This dedication to excellence and the acknowledgment of having the best team in the industry are key factors that set Marg apart and contribute to their success in the market. Case study Sudeshna and her team at Marg worked with a big industry giant in solving a major issue with its management. But, this time the focus of the company shifted from traditional manager training to a comprehensive assessment aimed at diagnosing underlying issues within the client’s organization. Owing to diagnostic assessments of the culture, it became evident that a recurring problem was disrupting employee satisfaction and performance was a lack of role clarity among managers. Rather than simply addressing the symptom of managerial shortcomings through training programs, Marg wanted to dig the roots for a deeper understanding of the underlying issue. And owing to her dedication, it was revealed that the organization’s job descriptions and competency profiling were not well defined. And this one error led to a great deal of confusion and dissatisfaction among managers and their teams. After addressing and resolving this root cause, Marg engaged into the organization’s collective understanding of the issue. The company was able to proceed with a successful cultural transformation. The team was aligning as per the leadership practices, job roles, and organizational culture to cultivate better clarity and effectiveness across all levels. It is truly remarkable that the team delves beyond surface-level symptoms and addresses systemic challenges to drive meaningful change and organizational improvement. In sync with market trends Marg’s operational model relies on staying ahead of the market trends. Their business approach is research-driven with a ceaseless focus on updating and refreshing their knowledge base every two years through collaboration with ProSci. This research efficacy ensures that the company remains well-informed about the evolving reasons and dynamics behind organizational change. In the wake of global shifts like the pandemic, the reasons driving organizational change have undergone significant transformation. Marg recognizes the importance of understanding the day-to-day challenges faced by organizations and individuals in various sectors, such as the impact of emerging technologies like AI, changing economic scenarios, and sector- specific challenges like those faced by aviation, hospitality, and retail industries. By keeping their “ears and eyes open” to industry developments and actively seeking out information, Marg stays abreast of macroeconomic trends, industry shifts, and evolving challenges faced by different sectors. This comprehensive understanding allows them to tailor solutions that address the specific needs and pain points of their clients, ensuring relevance and effectiveness in an ever-changing business landscape. Insights on women entrepreneurship As a successful businesswoman and entrepreneur, Sudeshna is deeply interested in discussing women’s entrepreneurship in today’s business world. But she is also concerned that despite the phenomenal progress, women still face challenges in securing equal leadership roles, considering the fact that women make up half of humanity. She believes that organizations should view their workforce as human resources, not gender-specific ones, to create inclusive environments that support everyone. Family responsibilities often hinder women’s professional growth, and female leaders need to overcome these barriers collectively, she added. For the future ahead, she envisions a world where men and women share equal responsibilities at home and work. Also, she is focused on eliminating the need to categorize success by gender. Hence, she emphasizes focusing on capabilities rather than gender to recognize leaders in an effective manner.

EFICOR’s proactive efforts in educating and preparing these communities have significantly contributed to their ability to withstand and respond to flooding incidents. Through targeted training and preparedness programs, EFICOR equipped locals with practical skills and knowledge essential for mitigating the impact of such disasters. If we talk of the impact created by them, the initiatives became evident as these flood-affected areas exhibited a commendable ability to cope with the crisis. As per Mr. Ramesh building local capacities for local works, communities are armed with unique strategies and techniques as per their specialized programs that resulted in a resilient spirit. Basically, a thriving workplace is all about fostering an environment that prioritizes the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of its employees. To add a cherry on top of it, offer remote work options, flexible schedules, and generous paid time off to allow employees to control their time and meet their personal needs. 2. Disconnect and recharge: If you wish to see your business thrive, just allow your employees to set boundaries and truly disconnect after work hours. This could involve setting expectations for email response times and discouraging late-night communication. Moreover, try to provide access to mental health resources and initiatives like mindfulness programs or Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) to help them process their emotions in an efficient way while reducing their stress. 3. Prioritize Physical Health and Wellness: Investing in an ergonomic workplace could do wonders to your goal. You need to invest in comfortable furniture, adjustable workstations, and proper lighting to prevent physical discomfort and injuries. Along with that, you can offer healthy choices in your own cafeteria or break room, and encourage breaks for movement and activity. Establish open communication and Psychological Safety: Try to create a culture of open communication by encouraging employees to voice their opinions, concerns, and ideas without fear of judgment or reprisal. But before this, you need to ensure active listening on your own. Leaders should make time to listen to employees’ concerns and feedback, and take their input seriously. 5. Build trust and psychological safety: The management of your company should focus on team building activities and social events to help employees feel connected and comfortable with each other. 6. Recognize and Reward Achievements: One should regularly acknowledge and appreciate employees’ contributions under any circumstances. Either it could be through verbal praise, written recognition, or performance- based rewards. 7. Offer opportunities for growth and development: Provide training programs, mentorship opportunities, and career development resources to help employees reach their full potential. Alongside this, celebrating successes together like organizing team outings, recognition events, or company-wide celebrations to boost morale and foster a sense of community make a huge difference. 8. Escalated Creativity and Innovation: Teammates hailing from diverse backgrounds bring together a wider range of experiences and perspectives to the table. It is said to be leading out-of-the-box thinking and novel solutions. It is truly amazing that in 2019 one of McKinsey’s studies found that companies with the highest levels of ethnic and cultural diversity on their executive teams were 36% more likely to outperform the less diverse teams on profitability. 2. Improved Problem-Solving: It is well elucidated by business leaders that when diverse viewpoints are represented, blind spots are less likely to be missed. In a collaborative way, it can lead to more comprehensive and effective solutions to complex challenges. 3. Better Employee Engagement: It goes without saying that if employees feel valued and included regardless of their background, they tend to be more motivated, engaged, and invested in their work. And better employee engagement could directly translate to increased productivity and loyalty. Integration and inclusion are crucial for unlocking the full potential of diversity. Well, we talked about the pros of having workplace diversity and now we need to talk of the cons. Here are some potential roadblocks that could cause ruckus too in a work environment of which the management needs to be in the know: 1. Communication and Collaboration Challenges: Impactful communication and collaboration skills are essential for diverse teams to thrive along the business trajectory. Measuring the Impact: Quantifying the precise impact of diversity on productivity remains a complex challenge. Factors like company culture, industry, and leadership styles all play a role. The takeaways It is a direct cause-and-effect relationship between diversity and productivity. Jamecho Edu2fly, a passion-driven initiative by two young entrepreneurs, has been a trusted guidance provider since its incorporation in 2023. Having laid the foundation of Jamecho, the young and enthusiastic founders of the organization, Ayaan Mehra (CEO) and Arhaan Chopra (COO), the alumni of Modern School Barakhamba coined the idea to initiate the successful endeavor this year when Ayaan thought of revolutionizing educational guidance for students and shared his concept with Arhaan. The New Delhi-based consultancy offers candidates complete solutions catered to their specific needs and supports them as they traverse their journey from School to University with the ultimate goal of positively impacting the lives of at least 1 million students. Mr Ashok Pratap Singh (Former president and member, Board of trustees, Modern Schools) blessed this venture by cutting the ribbon on the inauguration day and launched the website (www.jamecho.com) and the software for Jamecho Talent Assess Test (JTAT). Edu2fly Program (study abroad), Career Counseling with the JTAT, UNIGEN and The Chakra View (customized training modules for the corporate sector), and Visa and Immigration Counseling are the four programmes they are now catering to all while ensuring that their clients receive the best advice, support, and guidance possible. The Tale of Jamecho’s Inception: How It All Started It all began over dinner at the North Delhi restaurant Boa Village. As fate would have it, Ayaan Mehra had a breakthrough idea while looking at a billboard that would revolutionise how students are guided through their educational endeavors. With sheer excitement, he shared this vision with his best friend, Arhaan Chopra. “When my best friend, and now business partner, Ayaan Mehra approached me with just an idea; After careful consideration and with the urge and hunger to do something big, we turned this ‘idea’ into what today is known as Jamecho”, revealed Arhaan. Jamecho was founded with the mission of assisting students and professionals in achieving their goals and realising their potential as a result of their combined passion and determination. As the saying goes, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” Building a company is a teamwork that benefits from the many viewpoints and expertise of a reliable team rather than being a single player. So, Ayaan keeps surrounding himself with the right partners to elevate this business to new heights. Significant Industry Transformations in the Indian Startup Ecosystem Over the Past two months, the team has witnessed a significant transformation in the startup, thanks to visionary initiatives such as Startup India, Digital India, and Aatmanirbhar Bharat spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Airports are not just places where planes land and take off. They are com- plex businesses with multiple revenue streams. From retail and food conces- sions to parking fees and airline fees, airports generate revenue from a va- riety of sources. In this article, we will explore how airports actually make money and provide examples to illustrate the different revenue streams. Advertising Airports also generate revenue from advertising. Companies pay to advertise their products or services in the airport terminal building. The airport benefits from the revenue generated by the advertising For example, Heathrow Airport in London has advertising space throughout the terminal building, including billboards, digital screens, and sponsorship opportunities. Companies pay to advertise in these spaces, and the airport receives revenue from the advertising. Conclusion Airports are complex businesses that generate revenue from a variety of sources. Airline fees, retail and food concessions, parking fees, rental car concessions, and advertising are just a few of the revenue streams for airports. Each revenue stream requires careful management and planning to ensure that the airport is profitable. Understanding how airports make money is important for pas- sengers and airline industry professionals, as it provides insight into the challenges and opportunities facing the aviation industry. What are the sources of income for airports? Airline Fees One of the primary revenue streams for airports is airline fees. Airlines pay landing fees, gate fees, and terminal fees to use the airport’s facilities. Landing fees are based on the weight of the aircraft and the distance flown. Gate fees are charged for the use of a specific gate, and terminal fees cover the cost of using the terminal facilities. These fees can vary depending on the airport, and some airports offer incentives to airlines to encourage them to use their facilities. For example, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the busiest airport in the world, charges landing fees based on air- craft weight and charges a gate fee of $8.60 per 1,000 pounds of maximum gross weight. The airport also charges a terminal fee of $4.50 per passenger. Retail and Food Concessions Airports also generate revenue from retail and food concessions. These businesses pay rent to the airport to operate in the terminal building. The airport benefits from the rent and a percentage of the revenue generated by the businesses. Retail and food con- cessions are popular with travelers, who often have time to eat before their flights. This revenue stream has become increasingly important for airports as airlines have cut back on services such as in-flight meals. For example, John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York has a variety of retail and food options for passengers, including luxury brands such as Hermes and Gucci, as well as fast-food chains like McDonald’s and Dunkin’ Donuts. These businesses pay rent to the airport, and the airport receives a percentage of their revenue. Parking Fees Another revenue stream for airports is parking fees. Airports charge passengers for parking their vehicles in the airport parking lots. The fees can vary depending on the duration of the parking, the location of the parking lot, and the level of service provided. Some airports offer valet parking and shuttle services to and from the terminal building. For example, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport charges $24 per day for parking in the terminal garages and $10 per day for parking in the remote parking lots. The airport also offers valet parking for $34 per day. Rental Car Concessions Rental car concessions are another revenue stream for airports. Rental car companies pay rent to the airport to operate in the airport terminal building. The airport also receives a percentage of the revenue generated by rental car companies. For example, Los Angeles International Airport has rental car companies such as Hertz, Avis, and Enterprise operating in the air- port terminal building. These companies pay rent to the airport, and the airport receives a percentage of their revenue. Steadily turning into a significant part of the nation, the sector employs more than 28 million people. For the past ten years, India’s marine production has been rapidly increasing, and it is expected to have 100–150% growth within the next 5 years. Ryma Foodtech Private Limited, an Odisha-based firm, is empowering the natural shrimp industry in India with its innovative approach. Established in 2022, the company has a strong founding team led by a management expert, Amit Ailawadi, an IT expert, Jyoti Ailawadi, and an Aquaculture expert, Dinakrushna Nayak. Backed by a blend of modern technological advancements, principles, and practical experience in the cultivation of prawns and aquaculture locally in their own 25 ponds spread across 20 acres of land, Ryma envisions bringing a ray of hope for the local farmers where they can learn, earn, and grow. The company is working on this project at various levels. Ryma strives to break the existing nexus in the aquamarine sector of India. Farmer’s Dilemma ! Make no mistake: For a small-time farmer, cultivating shrimp is a mammoth task. Like any other crop, they require certain elements like ponds, seeds, feed, medicine, oil, and equipment. The first step of production is to plant the seeds, the tiny offspring of the crops, in specific, parameter-maintained water ponds. After the seeds are planted, it is vital to provide them with feed, frequent medication, and constant monitoring to ensure that there are no viruses, germs, or other issues that could affect the crop. Next, a water-churning device called an “aerator” is used. Churning water is needed as it provides the fish with sufficient oxygen to breathe and makes the pond habitat similar to that of the ocean. These machines run either on oil or electricity. Primarily, wherever these crops are being produced, like in Odisha or Kerela, they do not have top- notch infrastructure. People in rural areas mostly use generators because either there is no electricity or it can’t be relied upon. Furthermore, in this business, there is a nexus for everything! For instance, usually farmers lack the funds needed to purchase seeds and turn to product distributors. The distributors provide them with seeds on the condition that they get additional money over the actual price of the seeds (as interest) post-production. Farmers have to make similar arrangements for other necessities like feed, medicine, and oil. The exploitation of farmers doesn’t end here. After successfully growing the crop, they need to sell their harvest. Then comes the friendly neighbour exporter in the picture. (Well, not so friendly, actually.) These exporters provide the necessary additional funding for the farmers’ crops on the further condition that the crop, once fully grown, would be sold to only them at the ongoing prevailing rate. This rate is decided by none other than the exporters themselves. To get a better understanding of how farmers are exploited in this process, Ryma’s Managing Director, Amit Ailawadi, explains further through an example: Prawn’s Crop is usually grown 2–3 times a year. The first season or culture is from January to April. Due to the low life cycle of the crop, farmers can’t hold it after the fourth month of production. Amit Ailawadi Founder Meet the Leaders Amit Ailawadi, the Founder of “Ryma Foodtech”, is driving the achievements of the firm forward and essentially rewriting its success story. With 22 years of rich experience in Management and IT, he has a proven track record of spearheading projects for prestigious firms like Microsoft, Cisco, and Hewlett- Packard as Global IT head for a multinational company. He is also the founder of an IT firm, Ryma Technologies, and a construction company, Rapid Bricks Inc. In 2020, with the thought of doing something for the welfare of society, he started research in the interiors and untouched parts of India. He realised that there are many small, underdeveloped villages with limited resources. To empower them, he came up with the idea of Ryma Foodtech and piloted it in 2022. Along with him, his team is led by Jyoti Ailawadi and Dinakrushna Nayak. Jyoti is a graduate of Delhi University. With 22 years of experience, she is the Marketing and Operations head for Ryma Technologies (USA and Canada), and she has been actively leading the team to new heights. Dinakrushna, with 15 years of experience in aquaculture, is the local face of management for the project in the state of Odisha. Ideally, if the crop’s total cost per kg, including production and interest, comes to Rs. 250, the market price of the raw crop should be Rs. 350. This ensures a Rs. 100 margin, or a handsome profit margin of 40%, for farmers per season. However, since the exporters know the restriction of farmers to hold the crop beyond the given timeframe, they would smartly reduce the prevailing price drastically to say Rs. 240 (a price even less than the cost incurred by the farmers). A farmer at this time would have no choice other than to sell the crop at a loss and fall back into debt by having to pay a balance of Rs. 10 along with interest to be adjusted during the next season. During the next crop season, the price would normalise back from Rs. 240 to Rs. 350. Clearing the farmer’s financial backlog, making them content, and ensuring they would look forward to planting the third crop as well, not realising that the exporters are managing the show and keeping them under their clutches. It should be noted that the actual retail price at which the crop is sold overseas after processing comes to approx. Rs. 5500–6000 per kg (15 to 20 times higher than the farmer’s selling price) and has little or no impact on the procurement price for exporters. The idea of Ryma Foodtech was conceptualised to break this nexus, and they are doing this by uniting small farmers along with them. Mr. Ailawadi says, keeping global demand and the current growth rate in consideration, this is undoubtedly one of the most promising and profitable ventures for the near future, and in the process, their organisation intends to work for the welfare of the common farmers of the country as well. So far, in a short span of 8 months since its inception, 200+ small farmers owning over 275 farms have associated themselves with Ryma for efficient management, bulk pricing advantages, and assurance of a fair market price for their respective crops. “The team contacts the manufacturers directly to negotiate the best prices for input products like feed, seed, and medication. This lowers the operating costs and thus leaves greater room for margins. This is more like a communal advantage for farmers. So this is the whole idea,” adds the visionary leader. Project Plan: At a Glance • Phase 1: Initial Self-Farm Creation and Farmer Pool (Already Complete) • Phase 2: Focus on Sizeable Production (Currently in progress) • Phase 3: Exporting the Product • Phase 4: Sharing and Replicating the Business Model with State Governments and Administrative Bodies • Phase 5: Crowdfunding and Global Expansion As a part of Phase 4, Mr. Ailawadi and his team are already in discussions with numerous DMs in the states of Odisha, Jharkhand, Kerela, and Bihar. Many of them have agreed to provide land, support, and subsidies. For Project Phase 5, Ryma intends to utilise the 200 acres of additional land that they own through crowdfunding. Ryma would offer foreign investors ownership of a geotagged pond with assured fixed annual returns. The Investors would just need to pay for the management and setup, and Ryma’s team would do the rest.

According to the Economic Survey 2021, the share of agriculture in India’s GDP has increased to almost 20 percent in 2021. Farming in the traditional way is no longer a guarantee of profit. Through innovations in farming, farmers can increase their income if they wish. Recently, the Indian Government’s industrial policy and innovative creativity have encouraged research and entrepreneurship in mushroom cultivation. It has a lot of potential as a money maker. It is light-independent, feeds on organic matter, and does not require fertile soil to grow. India’s unemployment rate has risen to 6.8 % and the youth is no longer confident of jobs. In such a situation, the interest of the educated youth has shifted more towards sustainable agribusiness. Farmers are making good profits in small areas by doing mushroom cultivation in a modern way. The Mushroom Cultivation Market is projected to be worth USD 16.7 billion in 2021, rising at a CAGR of 4% from 2021 to 2026, to hit a value of USD 20.4 billion. Rajkumari Binita Devi, a mushroom cultivator from Manipur, is a great example of someone who was influenced by experience and was able to make a fortune and receive awards despite being an unskilled mushroom cultivator. WHAT IS A MUSHROOM? A mushroom (Kukurmutta in Hindi) is a fungus’ umbrella-shaped fruit. It is a tasty food that is enjoyed by both children and elders all over the world. It’s also known as “the future vegetable,” as it’s a guarantee against food shortages, hunger, and medicinal value. With the increasing population across the globe, Mushroom demand has risen recently, because mushrooms meet the needs of health-conscious consumers and are a desirable alternative food, especially for vegetarians. “One of the major agricultural industries on the earth is mushroom processing.” MUSHROOM CULTIVATION 46 NUTRITIONAL VALUE OF MUSHROOMS Mushrooms have a low-fat content and are high in simple carbohydrates. They’re also rich in digestible protein, high molecular weight polysaccharides, and a decent source of fibre, among other nutrients. Mushrooms also contain unsatu rated fatty acids, which account for more than 70% of total fatty acid content, as well as essential fatty acids, are low in calories, and high in vegetable proteins, minerals, and vitamins. They also contain a lot of secondary metabolites, which may be useful in nutraceuticals, pharmacology, and medicine. Some mushrooms have anti-inflammatory properties that can help prevent diseases like hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, atherosclerosis, and cancer. HISTORY About 600 A.D., the first mushroom, “Auricularia auricula”, was cultivated. “Flammulina velutipes” is later cultivated in China around 800-900 A. D. Commercial mushroom farming has only recently begun in India, with Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka leading the way. Andhra Pradesh is a big producer of mushrooms. Training of Mushroom cultivation in India Various government and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in India provide mushroom cultivation instruction. Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University, Pusa, Samastipur, Bihar and National Research Centre for Mushroom (NRCM), Solan, Himachal Pradesh are pioneer educational institutes. A “Mushroom Cultivation Technology” online training program is also available. Farmers, as well as entrepreneurs, would benefit from training programs. It is possible to have mushroom production three times a year because the length of 45 to 60 days is adequate for mushroom production. Diabetes flour, pickles, cookies, papad, and protein diet powder are made from mushrooms. TYPES OF MUSHROOM Button mushrooms, oyster mushrooms, and paddy straw mushrooms are the three primary varieties of mushroom harvest. These mushrooms are important in their own right, and they develop in different ways using different techniques and methods. To grow mushrooms, a special bed known as a compost bed is prepared. Cost of Mushroom Cultivation in India In India, the total cost of mushroom cultivation is around INR 1,50,00 0. Scrap Wooden Shelves (Rs. 20,000), Room Construction Costs (INR 1,25,000), and other Miscellaneous Costs are included (Rs. 5000). Growth Final Thoughts Mushroom cultivation is now India’s most active and profitable sector. It is rapidly gaining popularity in India because it turns farmers’ hard work into benefits in a short period. Agri-entrepreneurship programs especially in mushroom cultivation that involve capacity building and access to funds for youth should flourish to solve India’s brain drain issue. What today’s youth lack is the inspiration and entrepreneurship to see agriculture’s promise and prospects?. Youths are a source of creativity and a strong source of inspiration for others. 47 46 www.businessconnectindia.in | Vol. 6 | Special Edition April 2024 INDIA www.businessconnectindia.in | Vol. 6 | Special Edition April 2024 INDIA
