Power Of The American Dream In The Great Gatsby
The Power of the American Dream
The American Dream is the belief that anyone can be successful if they just work hard enough. It is
about pursuing happiness through independence and integrity. Many individuals rely on the American
Dream to give them a meaningful life, when in actuality it destroys one s happiness. In reality, those
who give no significance to the American Dream are the ones who are actually satisfied with their
lives. Fitzgerald s novel, The Great Gatsby, shows that finding purpose in one s life does not revolve
around the American Dream. As a matter of fact, individuals are most content without trying to
achieve that utmost success. The American Dream is a false prospect that people attempt to achieve,
and as a result, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Myrtle believed that in order to be content, she required prosperity and the American Dream. In
reality, the American Dream diminishes one s power to have a meaningful life. The main way in
which Myrtle tried to achieve wealth, was by having an affair with Tom Buchanan. Tom was a
successful, wealthy individual who Myrtle used to gain more wealth. She used his affluence for
herself, and ended up losing the American Dream. Myrtle s greed for luxury made her have an affair
with Tom, and Mr. Wilson eventually found out. Once Mr. Wilson realized Myrtle s motives, he tried
to achieve more money for her. His actions ultimately led to Myrtle s own death. Myrtle lost her
American Dream as quickly as it came in. She was driven to achieve more wealth, and she even died
trying. Basically, her own attempt to become prosperous was what eventually decreased her power to
become happy. From the start, Myrtle was deprived of money and she was unhappy. She actually
remained distressed because of her chase of the American Dream. Myrtle died because she continued
to blame Wilson for her lack of wealth. This is revealed when she says, Beat me...Throw me down and
beat me, you dirty little coward! (pg. 145). Therefore, this proves that another way in which Myrtle
tried to gain more money, was by blaming Mr. Wilson. She pointed all of her problems in Mr. Wilson s
direction, and eventually died by doing so. Mr. Wilson chased Myrtle out of the house, because he was
so upset with how disappointed Myrtle was with him. This shows that Myrtle tried to accumulate
more wealth by involving Mr. Wilson. The outcome was that she lost control and the American Dream
all together. Instead of life just becoming more distressed, Myrtle actually died as a result. Another
way in which Myrtle tried to acquire the American Dream, was through the way she dressed herself.
In the book, Myrtle tried to show that she

Review Of The Short Story Mojave Rats
As Coretta Scott King once said, The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the
compassionate actions of its members. The short story Mojave Rats by Kristin Valdez Quade explores
the relationship between Monica, who offers no compassion to the people around her, her daughters
Cordelia and Beatrice, and her second husband Elliot. They moved from Los Angeles to Shady Lanes
RV park in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Monica feels superior and out of place and lives convinced that
Elliott will soon finish his geological expedition so that they can climb into academia and live a
flawless and carefree life as a happy family. They live isolated from the rest of their community and
Monica does not have any allies to help her through her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Monica is fueled by the enjoyment she feels while tormenting Cordelia. The discipline frightens
Cordelia and most likely further silences her from bringing up and thinking about Monica s past,
which (unsuccessfully) forces Cordelia to immerse herself fully in their new life. The exhilaration that
Monica experiences shows that she is happy to part with her past, but she is simultaneously torn
because she feels that she is not fit for her present conditions and is not ready to settle with them.
Setting aside her motives to hurt Cordelia, Monica s decision to give the dress away is a step in the
right direction of accepting her current state. At the end of the story, Elliot comes home and fixes their
thermostat that had been broken through the whole story. After endless complaints about the cold,
...While her family slept below her in the grey dawn light, she would place her cheek back on the
pillow and watch them, waiting for them to stir, and she wouldn t even notice that she was finally
warm (57). Her family, slept below her , as she looked down on her new family situation feeling like
an outsider. There is an interesting distinction between Monica not feeling the cold and Cordelia s
inability to feel the heat. Monica does not feel that her actions are

Discuss the generic competitive strategy you selected for your company. Include the following in your
discussion: What actions were built into your strategic plan to achieve competitive and financial
success with that strategy. Why you selected the strategy you used. The company s competitive

specific efforts to please the customers, its offensive and defensive moves to counter the maneuvers of

successful you were in predicting your competitors next moves. It was difficult to predict exactly what
the competition s next moves were. One could surmise that basically, each company wants to make

Operation Iceberg Battle Of Okinawa
Operation Iceberg The attack at Okinawa was the last major battle of WWII and also one of the
bloodiest. On April 1st, 1945, Easter Sunday, more than 180,000 Marine Corps and the U.S. Army
troops descended on the Pacific Coast of Okinawa for a final threat towards Japan ( Battle of Okinawa
). The Battle of Okinawa was also known as Operation Iceberg. Operation iceberg is a codename of
the major battle fought on the Pacific island of Okinawa by the United States Marine and Army forces
against the imperial Japanese Army. Operation Iceberg was said to be, in every way, vast compared to
any other operation. American troops believed that when they captured Okinawa, the rest of Japan s
homeland would be easy to destroy and take over. It was the largest amphibious landing in the Pacific
Theatre of WWII and was proven to be the deadliest battle on the pacific side of WWII ( Battle Of
Okinawa: Summary, Fact, Pictures and Casualties. ). The Pacific Campaign started after the attack of
Pearl Harbor. It involved six countries and over 180,000 casualties. Japan s belligerent acts and
attitude towards Americans only provoked and encouraged the troops to attack more immensely. The
Japanese knew the battle was in extremis, but still continued to fight for honor. On October 3, 1944,
American forces in the Pacific Ocean areas received a directive task to seize positions in the Ryukyu
Islands. Okinawa was the most important island of the Ryukyu group, it was the threshold of the four

Stereotype Promise
Stereotype Threat and Stereotype Promise are two concepts that explains or rationalize why minority
groups such as African American underperform compared to their white counterparts, and why Asian
American students have successful educational outcomes compared to other minority groups. Using
Claude M. Steele s article of Thin Ice: Stereotype Threat and Black College Students, and Jennifer Lee
and Min Zhou work called From Unassimilable to Exceptional: The Rise of Asian Americans and
Stereotype Promise, we can further understand the effects of these two concepts on the two different
subgroups. Stereotype threat and stereotype promise are manifested in everyday educational contexts,

led to Asian ethnic groups being homogenized into the bread racial label of Asian American,
disregarding the differences in ethnicity, class, generation status, and migration history. Which goes on
to further boost the positive stereotypes associated with Asian Americans, and that became a form of
symbolic capital that benefits Asian American students in educational contexts. Teachers favored
Asian American students because they were perceived as bright, hard working, better prepared, and
more willing to put in effort into their homework (Lee and Zhou 17). These perceptions affected the
grades Asian American students would receive, extra help were offered with their coursework and
college applications, and their likelihood of being placed into academic programs and competitive
academic tracks. This help further the theory of stereotype promise, in which Asian American students
began to see themselves the way that teachers and society sees them with the idea of Asian American
Exceptionalism. In results, it led to the self fulfilling prophecy, where it begins with a false definition
of the situation, evoking a new behaviour, which makes the original false conception come true (Lee
and Zhou 18). Both Asian American students and teachers began to believe that all Asians are high
achieving, which resulted a change in the student s behavior, and ultimately, a change in their
academic outcome.

Essay On Staff Education
Implementing Interventions Staff Education/Training
Based on the outcomes of the data gathered, the next intervention will be the conduction of unit wide
hand hygiene mandatory in services. Staff education on the importance of hand washing, the correct
procedures for hand washing, and hand rubbing are important for bringing about behavioral and
cultural change and ensuring that competence is firmly embedded and sustained among all staff in
relation to hand hygiene (WHO, 2009). The initial training will be coordinated by the unit supervisor,
but the training will be presided over by a person with basic knowledge on infection control,
preferably the unit infection control coordinator or the charge nurse. For a sustainable impact, WHO

As part of the training, all patients and their families will be briefed on the importance of proper hand
hygiene. This will be done on admission on the unit and as needed during their stay on the unit. The
patients will be asked to speak up and remind any staff to follow proper hand hygiene before
providing clinical care. Patient involvement will also be used at the evaluation stage through
feedbacks on hand hygiene performance by the staff.
Implementing Intervention Alcohol Based Hand Sanitizers
Hand sanitizers are a very popular hand hygiene method, effective germicidal agents and are easy to
use. WHO (2009) recommends installing hand sanitizers dispensers at each point of care and make
them easily accessible by the healthcare staff, patient or patient family. For this program the hand
hygiene champion team will make a unit survey to make sure that all the hand sanitizer dispenser
available are fully functional, are regularly refilled, are easily accessible by the staff at the point of
care. Based on the finding changes will be initiated accordingly; if the dispensers are not enough
requisitions will be made through the unit charge nurse to install them where they are needed, if there
is any need to relocate the already existing dispensers, the maintenance or engineering department will
be called in to make such changes. On a shift basis, a hand

Wind Guide You Composed by Jeremey Soule If the Orchestral Suite to the Inner Light is, in personal
opinion, the most romantic instrumental to date, the most thought provoking is Wind Guide You
composed by Jeremey Soule. How could an instrumental be thought provoking? Honestly, it s just a
feeling I have. The best way that I can describe it is that Wind Guide You is the retelling of a somber
epic.
Every once in a while, I try my hand at freelance writing (purely as a hobby), and this piece is my go
to in finding inspiration for my work. Jeremy Soule s Wind Guide You was featured in the video game
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and first appeared on the soundtrack album of the same name in 2011. 5.

The Accidental Billionaire Movie Analysis
The Controversial Creation of Facebook Based on the novel known as The Accidental Billionaire, The
Social Network is a film that explains about the creation and the evolution of Facebook, which is one
of the most popular social media in the 21st century. In 2003, Mark Zuckerberg, a young student of
Harvard University, encountered a sudden heartbreak from his girlfriend during the dinner. Instead of
feeling flat, Mark felt angry and confused; therefore, he decided to fight back. On that night, a crazy
idea came up to his mind, where he hacked the Harvard University system and stole all the girls,
information including their photos. A few hours later after taking the ladies information with his friend
Eduardo Saverin, the two established a social site known as FaceMash. They encouraged the other
students to compare the girls faces on this new site. Eventually, the platform paralyzed the school s
system and made Mark famous overnight. However, Mark received his first time punishment from the
university for his action. Consequently, Mark and Eduardo s site drew more attention from Cameron
Winklevoss and Tyler Winklevoss where they invited them to create a Harvard Connection site. Mark
and Eduardo accepted the invitation, but at the same time, they continued writing their social platform
which they changed to Facebook, taking a reference to Cameron and Tyler s idea. The social site;
Facebook, regain high popularity, where more and more users joined. However, Cameron and

Summary Of Women In Annawadi
2. In the novel, women in Annawadi don t have lots of freedom and rights. They are mistreated and
every family living in Annawadi dislikes each other because they are corrupted by greed and money.
Even in the urban slums, women like Zehrunisa and Asha wouldn t have more freedom because
women can t have a voice for themselves unless they have connections to other, more powerful
people. Other women dislike and spit hate at Zehrunisa and Asha because they are more successful
than them, rather than trying to work with them to be successful together. Since the people in
Annawadi are so corrupted by money, they disregard for others wellbeing and resort to fighting or
trash talk each other. For women, they are a burden for parents because of marriage and dowry. That is
why mothers and fathers want their daughters to be perfect, with no scars or anything that would
prevent them to get married. All the engagement is determined at a young age, so girls can not find
love for themselves. Meena s future in laws might not come to hear that they d chosen an impetuous
bride. (Boo 188). When Meena, a young Annawadi girl, tried to commit suicide with rat poison
because she hated the life she was living, her brother beat her up because now there would be less
chance for Meena to get married. Rather than the townspeople helping Meena, the were ashamed of
her and worried for her reputation than her health. In my view, the freedoms that the women in
Annawadi lack is a voice. The women cannot

Kandinsky Vs Klee
Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee are two of the famous artists of abstract art. They both had started
their painting life since 1900, and they had had friendship during their lifetime. Which is easier to
compare their artworks by year and find the similarities of how they were influent by each other. Such
as Kandinsky s Improvisation and Klee s Colour shape in 1914, Kandinsky s Black Increasing and
Klee s Black Knight in 1927. Thus, the four painting would be the artworks to compare. Two artists
have the same perspective toward art. First, Kandinsky not only sees colours as different moods but
also sees them as the sounds of music. He also assigned instrument tones to go with each colour: Red
sounded like a trumpet; Green sounded like a middle position violin; Light Blue sounded like flute;
Dark Blue sounded like a cello, Yellow sounded like a fanfare of trumpets; and White sounded like the
pause in a harmonious melody. (Kandinsky) It is a special perspective to see or hear art. In the same
way, Klee was a musician which found the resemblance between art and music.

Each of the characters in the novel creates a connect of their past with the present. The memories,

to bring out the suffering and pain of an individual. Ghosh here uses the character Deeti as a metaphor

A Streetcar Named Desire Light Essay
In both The Glass Menagerie and A Streetcar Named Desire, Tennessee Williams makes use of very
specific light cues. In his works, Williams uses lighting to declare relationships, portray moods, and
connect with the audience. Tennessee Williams uses light in The Glass Menagerie and A Streetcar

relationships between characters, and to show that The Glass Menagerie is a memory play.

Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis is a disease in children 16 years or younger that causes inflamed joints.
(Haines, 2007) JIA includes 2 or more of these symptoms; ability of motion is impaired, motion
causing pain or tenderness, or increased warmth in a joint and occurring in more than one joint for 6

and states that they are used to treat multiple of the subcategories of JIA.

A trial performed by Nigrovic, et al. was to see if Anakinra could potentially treat JIA. This trial lasted
82 days and included 21 patients (3 days after diagnosis) and 32, (within 30 days of being diagnosed.
These subjects were injected with two different variations of Anakinra. After around 14.5 months,
Nigrovic says that improvement was a fast positive improvement. 25 out of 29 patients fever and rash
healed in about 1 2 days. 8 of 10 patients treated with only Anakinra did not require any additional
therapy after the trial. The specialists in this study associated Anakinra with positive outcomes.
(Nigrovic, P. A., et al., 2011) Another trial was used to see if Anakinra was safe to use in minors. 69%
of the test subjects responded to the medication while 31% did not. After figuring out weight based
exposure to Anakinra provided adequate exposure to the patients they concluded that Anakinra was a
safe drug to administer to children. (Ilowite, N., et al. 2008)
Conclusion
Rheumatologists have considered many different options as treatments for Juvenile Idiopathic

Cross Cultural Communication And The Classroom
Cross Cultural Communication The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one
persists in trying to adapt the world to himself [Shaw]. Internalize this quote begs the question, can
education make a difference? This paper will examine in detail cross cultural communication, a
cultural issue that educators must seek to address in the delivery of teaching to English Language
Learners (ELL) classroom. Moreover, the ensuing paper will analyze the problems of cross cultural
communication in the classroom of ELL; this will be followed by its relation to the theories and
application of those methods. On the other hand, the writer will outline the effects of cross cultural
communication, and how these effects can be changed into a social value through education.
Examination of Cross Cultural Communication in the Classroom Instruction and assessment are
delivered through the medium of communication, while resolution of behavioral problems involve
communication. Significantly, in a classroom with ELL/LEP learners, the job of the teacher is not only
to teach but to be a mediator between the different cultures represented in the class. What teachers
must realize is that an environment that is filled with cultural tension does not lend itself to learning.
Therefore, administrators/educators must recognize cross cultural communication as essential in the
learning environment. Collier and Powell (1990), posits ethnic background influences the way

use (whale watching), animal feed and fertilizer use, cosmetic use, and pharmaceutical use. While not
popular in most countries, countries like Alaska, Iceland, Norway, and Japan have whale meat on their
menus. There are also other indigenous people and people in Inuit tribes who depend on whale meat as
their main source of food. Within the pharmaceutical field, Russia, Norway, and Japan are counties
that take on studies for the medical uses of whale. Some of these uses are whale oil (omega 3s acid)
and whale cartilage (chondroitin 4 sulfate and proteoglycan). ... Show more content on

In my opinion, every species, including humans, is a part of the food chain. Whether or not humans
are at the top of the food chain isn t what is important when it comes to the relationship between us
and whales. We have the technology and intelligence to kill whales and use them at important
resources, including food, wax (for candles and cosmetics), and pharmaceuticals. We should be taking
every advantage we get to further develop our knowledge of whale oil, meat, and cartilage. I believe
that we should use every opportunity to better our lives, but that does not include kill whales
recreationally. There is no excuse for that, just like there is no excuse for kills of dogs, zebras, or
pandas. Unless it is for survival, no one should be killing an animal for fun. That saying, there is a
point when we will have to stop commercial whaling. The whale population has been an interesting
trend to research. Whale population has been very high and very low in the past couple centuries. My
opinion is that we should have a set number of whales that we can take out of the ocean each year. If
that number starts to cause a decline in the population, it should be set lower. If the population
becomes endangered, I believe that whaling should stop immediately. I could imagine having to
describe to the next generation what a whale looks like because there aren t any to show

Terrorism And The Middle East And Muslims
Terrorism has been around since the early to late 11th century and it is directly related to the Middle
East and Muslims. The Hashshashin (roughly translated as the Assassins ) arose as an offspring of the
Isma ili sect of Shia Muslims. It was led by man named Hassan i Sabbah and it opposed the Fatimid
rule. The Hashshashin group then seized Alamut and other strongholds across Persia. At the time,
Hashshashin forces were too small to go to war conventionally, so they assassinated city governors
and military commanders in order to create alliances with powerful militaristic neighbors. For
instance, they murdered Janah al Dawla, ruler of Homs, to please Ridwan of Aleppo, and then
assassinated Mawdud and Seljuk emir of Mosul, as a favor to ... Show more content on

Arabian Peninsula after merging with an al Qaeda cell in Saudi Arabia and is currently already
considered the most dangerous terrorist organization globally. The last several attempts to attack the
U.S. were conducted by its members and by people who were inspired by its leaders. It is not well
known that the U.S. has waged a decade long drone war in Yemen. Most automatically think of
Afghanistan or Iraq when it comes to terrorism and Al Qaeda. But why Yemen and how did it grow so
fast?
To answer that question we need to dig a little deeper and go back to pre 9/11. After the 1998 African
Embassy bombings in Kenya, a request was sent out all over the world by the U.S government, but
particularly to Yemen that if Osama bin Laden showed up, they would like the Yemeni government s
full cooperation in arresting him and turning him over to U.S. The Yemenis made it very clear that if
Osama bin Laden showed up they would turn him in as they wanted nothing to do with him. Sadly
though the U.S pretty much stopped pursuing this as the higher

The Effects Of Poverty On Indigenous People
Without land and control of their assets, Indigenous Peoples are destined to remain the world s poorest
communities with the worst health, highest mortality rate and shortest life span ( The Indigenous
Movement ). The Indigenous Peoples Movement works to acquire legal protection and works to raise
awareness towards the indigenous peoples causes globally. Indigenous peoples are generally defined
as individuals who belong to a highly conservative, culturally and linguistically different non
dominant social group, distinct from the modernly dominant society hoping to maintain that
separation with the superior culture. In addition, their cultures and traditional practices have been
harmed over the centuries complications arising from the European ... Show more content on

These three factors, chronologically, are catalyzed in a domino effect commonly experienced by
indigenous peoples, thus being responsible for the high suicide rates. Statistical evidence for Latin
America indicates more than 80 percent of the region s indigenous peoples are still living in abject
poverty, a trend that has changed little since the early 1990s ( Latin America ). Because of the rising
poverty states, among the indigenous communities, a portion of the indigenous have resorted to
violent crimes. Opponents against helping indigenous peoples believe that the activities of the
indigenous risk the safety of the dominant societies, and thus should not be helped provoking thoughts
derived from observing the rising number of aboriginal peoples incarcerated in Australia over the
years: an exponential growth rate for indigenous incarceration has flooded the prisons with a
numerable quantity of indigenous peoples . It is understandable that one would conclude such an
alleged claim only by seeing the statistical facts, but without further investigation of the causes for
incarceration, many crucial details are absent that turn the tides of the argument towards an advocacy
for legislative and judicial systems to intrude and elicit repairs for legal complexities associated with
indigenous peoples. Procuring legislative support could decrease the numbers of poverty struck
indigenous communities and effect an ameliorable change in their social standing, thus projecting a
more respectful and less hostile view by the dominant

Benefits Of Mao Zedong
As a result of the civil war in 1927 to 1950, the Communist Party gained political control over China
and defeated the opposing Nationalist Party. This essay will examine and analyze the benefits of Mao
Zedong s leadership of the Communist Party throughout the civil war, such as his influence over the
military and the Chinese people. There is no doubt, however, that other factors such as the opposing
Nationalists corruption, military tactics and relationship with the people all played an even greater role
in ensuring the victory of the Communist Party. It will be argued that while the leadership of Mao
Zedong was a large part of the Communist Party s victory, the failures of Chiang Kaishek s leadership
were crucial to the success of the Communists. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their capabilities of being honest and efficient proved to be wrong, and trust in the Nationalists
success began to crack. After losing half a million troops in Manchuria, and another one and a half
million surrendered or lost, the PLA began to make their way into China, and the defeat of the
government was inevitable. They had lost the confidence of its own troops and its own people .5
Chiang s military mistakes, corruption and incompetence fed the evaporation of the Nationalists
civilian support, and the treatment of the local people was terrible. He refused to undertake land
reforms, and was unable to establish a currency, Chiang Kaishek s government had also morphed from
being a government of the people, to a government of the middle and higher class. He drew support
from the landlords and merchants, and depended on the tax revenue and donations from the small
influential class. This led to money extortion, and corruption.6 The economy also dropped in areas of
China and prices rose, ruining the Chinese middle class. Despite the Nationalist Party still looking
strong, people began to doubt whether they would be able to govern the

Persuasive Essay On Why Guns Are Bad
Have you ever thought of owning a gun? These weapons are used everyday in combat against other
countries and also by police officers in situations where they feel their life is in danger. We expect so
little from actual citizens when they acquire a weapon, then we wonder why there s such a high
number of murderers and many massacres happening around us,owning a weapon is a great
responsibility especially for those with children for the fact that their has been cases in which children
have died in the past for handling a gun left in a unsafe place.
Initially, Owning a gun for the sake of our safety and that of our loved ones can be a good reason as to
why someone could own a gun, it essential so when you have someone breaking into your house or
threatening the life of your family, but having this at an unsafe place could be really tragic for the
simplicity that any young kid could see it as a toy and may point it at someone and accidentally hurt
them or even more seriously kill them we as state should enforce a law that if something like this ever
happens we should hold the person which the weapon is registered to accountable for the accidental
deaths caused by their weapon.

A Streetcar Named Desire Feminist Analysis
Then the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for
him (Genesis 2:18). Religion aside, this proposition has run deep throughout cultures for centuries. It
is the idea that women were created to be men s helper. Over generations, is has been exploited to
mean that women were created to serve men. Thus, it is not peculiar for this exploitation of gender
roles to be exposed through literature such as A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams. This
play tragically and candidly expresses the stereotypical male and female dynamic of the 1950 s, a
lustful unhealthy relationship held together by the inability of women to be independent from men. It
is then through Stella Kowalski, a major female ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is obvious in Williams stage notes that for Stanley the center of his life [is] pleasure with women
(29). Stella, without hesitation, is able to provide this to him. She readily submits to his passes at her,
for in her eyes he is irresistible. Along with submitting sexually, Stella also submits freedom and
sometimes integrity. In doing so, Stella must always forgive Stanley. After all the altercations, after all
the trouble, after all heartache, Stella forgives Stanley. She believes that there are things that happen
between a man and a woman in the dark that...make everything else seem―unimportant (70). Her
mentality about her relationship correlates to her knowledge of how to survive. It is what makes her
incapable of believing her relationship is unhealthy and Stanley raping her sister. She must do this not
only for her own survival, but for the baby s. Without Stanley, Stella and the baby cannot survive
therefore Stella is forced to have this state of mind. She cannot be like her sister and openly express
her thoughts. She must obey him.
In contrast to Stella, Blanche has very little submission to men, especially Stanley. Her inability to do
so leads to her rape. Blanche s continual fights with Stanley only made him hate her more. From the
very beginning their relationship was rocky and only intensified with time. Particularly after making
rude remarks about Stanley including madman (64), common , bestial (71), and animal (72), Stanley

and was about two seconds away from getting sick. Mom asked with urgency in her voice, What just
happened, honey? I had my hand in the door while I was tying my shoe and when Cristina opened her
door it got caught in that thing and OWWWW!
I looked over at what she was pointing at and saw a mechanism that looked like tree clippers. I couldn

was having a hard time breathing.
Ok honey let s go to the bathroom. Mom was always great at handling gross stuff like this. I, however,
was not. I quickly sprinted over to the grass for a second and vomitted. I knew it was going to happen.
So, I was glad it was happening when no one could see me. When I was done, I went back, checked
on Gavin, and realized that Joe had left before any of this had happened. I then remembered that he
was going back to work and was probably too far away to come back by know. I got in the car, and
soon after, I saw Mom with Mac. Luckily her finger wasn t dripping blood anymore, but it was

Characteristics Of Martin Luther King Jr. And Adolf Hitler
Before this semester I always knew there were many characteristics and deferent types of leaders.
Typically when I thought of a leader, I would think of a team leader. A leader that involves the creation
of a vivid picture of its goals, where it is heading and what it will stand for. The vision inspires and
provides a strong sense of purpose and direction. In the easy sense when I thought of a leader I would
think of a quarterback for a football team, commander in the army, and or a boss of a company. I also
knew there was a visionary leader because that s what type of leader I am. When I think of whose a
good leader I think of two people, Martin Luther King Jr. and Adolf Hitler. These two people were two
totally different leaders but they were both great leaders. Martin Luther Kind JR. led the Civil Rights
movements in the United States. He used nonviolent, or peaceful, protest to try to get equal rights for
African Americans. He aroused white and black alike to protest racial discrimination, poverty, and
war. He would give amazing speeches such as I have a dream in front of 250,000 people. Hitler was a
good leader but obviously was a terrible person. Hitler turned hundred of thousands of people into
Nazis. Some key areas that Hitler was good at was his vision, change management, compassion,
charisma, and develop the team and making the team better.
Before attending this course, I didn t know what I would be learning. I knew this course would
probably teach me how to

Should We Lower the Drinking Age? | 18 vs. 21 | Quicker Liquor A Short Research Paper Should the
legal drinking age be lowered? Those who supported the change for the 2009 re authorization of the
law (dubbed Pro 18), and those who wanted the law to remain at the current age of 21 (dubbed Pro
21), had three major categories to explore for this debate: safety, binge drinking and maturity. There is
opposition and support on both sides of the issue including a coalition founded in 2008 by a group of
academic leaders called the Amethyst Initiative who support lowering the drinking age to 18. In 1984,
after Candy Lightner suffered the loss of her daughter at the hands of a drunk driver in 1980, she

Sangahvi cites reasons other than the 21 year age law that contribute to binge drinking such as weak
state and campus alcohol control policies...and the presence of lots of bingeing older adults
(Sangahvi). In Sangahvi s article, a notation from David Rosenbloom of the Institute of Medicine
concluded that higher taxes reduce alcohol abuse and related harm to young adults and notes the five
states with the highest beer taxes have half the binge drinking [rates] of other states (Rosenbloom in
Sangahvi). The last major part of this debate is maturity. How old is old enough? Sangahvi mentions
the thing most people think first, singling out alcohol to make it off limits is odd, since 18 year olds
may legally join the military, vote, buy cigarettes.. (Sangahvi). Chris Alexander says This [age 18]
marks the time when children become legally responsible for their actions in American society. This is
when they are considered adults (Alexander). The National Youth Rights Association addresses the
developmental aspect of the argument by saying Your body and mind improve all through out life. A
21 year old is different from an 18 year old, just as a 41 year old is different from a 38 year old. Youth
Prohibition activists ignore the fact that maturity is a gradual but uneven process that continues
throughout life and is not complete on one s twenty first birthday (http://www.youthrights.org).

  • 2. Power Of The American Dream In The Great Gatsby The Power of the American Dream The American Dream is the belief that anyone can be successful if they just work hard enough. It is about pursuing happiness through independence and integrity. Many individuals rely on the American Dream to give them a meaningful life, when in actuality it destroys one s happiness. In reality, those who give no significance to the American Dream are the ones who are actually satisfied with their lives. Fitzgerald s novel, The Great Gatsby, shows that finding purpose in one s life does not revolve around the American Dream. As a matter of fact, individuals are most content without trying to achieve that utmost success. The American Dream is a false prospect that people attempt to achieve, and as a result, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Myrtle believed that in order to be content, she required prosperity and the American Dream. In reality, the American Dream diminishes one s power to have a meaningful life. The main way in which Myrtle tried to achieve wealth, was by having an affair with Tom Buchanan. Tom was a successful, wealthy individual who Myrtle used to gain more wealth. She used his affluence for herself, and ended up losing the American Dream. Myrtle s greed for luxury made her have an affair with Tom, and Mr. Wilson eventually found out. Once Mr. Wilson realized Myrtle s motives, he tried to achieve more money for her. His actions ultimately led to Myrtle s own death. Myrtle lost her American Dream as quickly as it came in. She was driven to achieve more wealth, and she even died trying. Basically, her own attempt to become prosperous was what eventually decreased her power to become happy. From the start, Myrtle was deprived of money and she was unhappy. She actually remained distressed because of her chase of the American Dream. Myrtle died because she continued to blame Wilson for her lack of wealth. This is revealed when she says, Beat me...Throw me down and beat me, you dirty little coward! (pg. 145). Therefore, this proves that another way in which Myrtle tried to gain more money, was by blaming Mr. Wilson. She pointed all of her problems in Mr. Wilson s direction, and eventually died by doing so. Mr. Wilson chased Myrtle out of the house, because he was so upset with how disappointed Myrtle was with him. This shows that Myrtle tried to accumulate more wealth by involving Mr. Wilson. The outcome was that she lost control and the American Dream all together. Instead of life just becoming more distressed, Myrtle actually died as a result. Another way in which Myrtle tried to acquire the American Dream, was through the way she dressed herself. In the book, Myrtle tried to show that she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Review Of The Short Story Mojave Rats As Coretta Scott King once said, The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members. The short story Mojave Rats by Kristin Valdez Quade explores the relationship between Monica, who offers no compassion to the people around her, her daughters Cordelia and Beatrice, and her second husband Elliot. They moved from Los Angeles to Shady Lanes RV park in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Monica feels superior and out of place and lives convinced that Elliott will soon finish his geological expedition so that they can climb into academia and live a flawless and carefree life as a happy family. They live isolated from the rest of their community and Monica does not have any allies to help her through her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Monica is fueled by the enjoyment she feels while tormenting Cordelia. The discipline frightens Cordelia and most likely further silences her from bringing up and thinking about Monica s past, which (unsuccessfully) forces Cordelia to immerse herself fully in their new life. The exhilaration that Monica experiences shows that she is happy to part with her past, but she is simultaneously torn because she feels that she is not fit for her present conditions and is not ready to settle with them. Setting aside her motives to hurt Cordelia, Monica s decision to give the dress away is a step in the right direction of accepting her current state. At the end of the story, Elliot comes home and fixes their thermostat that had been broken through the whole story. After endless complaints about the cold, ...While her family slept below her in the grey dawn light, she would place her cheek back on the pillow and watch them, waiting for them to stir, and she wouldn t even notice that she was finally warm (57). It was difficult to predict exactly what the competition s next moves were. One could surmise that basically, each company wants to make more money than everyone else. Based on that, we would want to determine the best way for our company to make more than our competitor s, which didn t turn out too well for F Troop shoes. • 5. Operation Iceberg Battle Of Okinawa Operation Iceberg The attack at Okinawa was the last major battle of WWII and also one of the bloodiest. On April 1st, 1945, Easter Sunday, more than 180,000 Marine Corps and the U.S. Army troops descended on the Pacific Coast of Okinawa for a final threat towards Japan ( Battle of Okinawa ). The Battle of Okinawa was also known as Operation Iceberg. Operation iceberg is a codename of the major battle fought on the Pacific island of Okinawa by the United States Marine and Army forces against the imperial Japanese Army. Operation Iceberg was said to be, in every way, vast compared to any other operation. American troops believed that when they captured Okinawa, the rest of Japan s homeland would be easy to destroy and take over. It was the largest amphibious landing in the Pacific Theatre of WWII and was proven to be the deadliest battle on the pacific side of WWII ( Battle Of Okinawa: Summary, Fact, Pictures and Casualties. ). The Pacific Campaign started after the attack of Pearl Harbor. It involved six countries and over 180,000 casualties. Japan s belligerent acts and attitude towards Americans only provoked and encouraged the troops to attack more immensely. The Japanese knew the battle was in extremis, but still continued to fight for honor. On October 3, 1944, American forces in the Pacific Ocean areas received a directive task to seize positions in the Ryukyu Islands. • 6. Stereotype Promise Stereotype Threat and Stereotype Promise are two concepts that explains or rationalize why minority groups such as African American underperform compared to their white counterparts, and why Asian American students have successful educational outcomes compared to other minority groups. Using Claude M. Steele s article of Thin Ice: Stereotype Threat and Black College Students, and Jennifer Lee and Min Zhou work called From Unassimilable to Exceptional: The Rise of Asian Americans and Stereotype Promise, we can further understand the effects of these two concepts on the two different subgroups. Which goes on to further boost the positive stereotypes associated with Asian Americans, and that became a form of symbolic capital that benefits Asian American students in educational contexts. Teachers favored Asian American students because they were perceived as bright, hard working, better prepared, and more willing to put in effort into their homework (Lee and Zhou 17). These perceptions affected the grades Asian American students would receive, extra help were offered with their coursework and college applications, and their likelihood of being placed into academic programs and competitive academic tracks. This help further the theory of stereotype promise, in which Asian American students began to see themselves the way that teachers and society sees them with the idea of Asian American Exceptionalism. In results, it led to the self fulfilling prophecy, where it begins with a false definition of the situation, evoking a new behaviour, which makes the original false conception come true (Lee and Zhou 18). Both Asian American students and teachers began to believe that all Asians are high achieving, which resulted a change in the student s behavior, and ultimately, a change in their academic outcome. ... Staff education on the importance of hand washing, the correct procedures for hand washing, and hand rubbing are important for bringing about behavioral and cultural change and ensuring that competence is firmly embedded and sustained among all staff in relation to hand hygiene (WHO, 2009). Patient involvement will also be used at the evaluation stage through feedbacks on hand hygiene performance by the staff. Implementing Intervention Alcohol Based Hand Sanitizers Hand sanitizers are a very popular hand hygiene method, effective germicidal agents and are easy to use. WHO (2009) recommends installing hand sanitizers dispensers at each point of care and make them easily accessible by the healthcare staff, patient or patient family. For this program the hand hygiene champion team will make a unit survey to make sure that all the hand sanitizer dispenser available are fully functional, are regularly refilled, are easily accessible by the staff at the point of care. Wind Guide You Analysis Rebecca McKenney Mass Media Communication Mrs. Rose 24 March 2017 The Soundtrack of My Life For every song that comes on the radio or that is featured on a CD, there is a personal meaning for the listener. Selecting five songs to represent my life was a difficult choice because of this. The song selection that follows is organized by the artist s last name. 1. Changes Performed by David Bowie I don t know many people would could say that remember the first song they ever heard on the radio. For me, that song was David Bowie s Changes . Wind Guide You Composed by Jeremey Soule If the Orchestral Suite to the Inner Light is, in personal opinion, the most romantic instrumental to date, the most thought provoking is Wind Guide You composed by Jeremey Soule. How could an instrumental be thought provoking? Honestly, it s just a feeling I have. The best way that I can describe it is that Wind Guide You is the retelling of a somber epic. Every once in a while, I try my hand at freelance writing (purely as a hobby), and this piece is my go to in finding inspiration for my work. Jeremy Soule s Wind Guide You was featured in the video game The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and first appeared on the soundtrack album of the same name in 2011. 5. Memory Performed by Barbra Streisand When it comes to vocal music, I will confess that I typically listen to male artists. It s just personal taste. For me, there are only three female vocalists that I could listen to for more than one or two songs. My favorite female vocalist? Barbra Streisand. I watched the musical film Funny Girl once when I was very young. I could care less for the film, but I loved Streisand s signing voice. • 9. The Accidental Billionaire Movie Analysis The Controversial Creation of Facebook Based on the novel known as The Accidental Billionaire, The Social Network is a film that explains about the creation and the evolution of Facebook, which is one of the most popular social media in the 21st century. In 2003, Mark Zuckerberg, a young student of Harvard University, encountered a sudden heartbreak from his girlfriend during the dinner. Instead of feeling flat, Mark felt angry and confused; therefore, he decided to fight back. On that night, a crazy idea came up to his mind, where he hacked the Harvard University system and stole all the girls, information including their photos. A few hours later after taking the ladies information with his friend Eduardo Saverin, the two established a social site known as FaceMash. They encouraged the other students to compare the girls faces on this new site. Eventually, the platform paralyzed the school s system and made Mark famous overnight. However, Mark received his first time punishment from the university for his action. Consequently, Mark and Eduardo s site drew more attention from Cameron Winklevoss and Tyler Winklevoss where they invited them to create a Harvard Connection site. Mark and Eduardo accepted the invitation, but at the same time, they continued writing their social platform which they changed to Facebook, taking a reference to Cameron and Tyler s idea. • 10. Summary Of Women In Annawadi 2. In the novel, women in Annawadi don t have lots of freedom and rights. They are mistreated and every family living in Annawadi dislikes each other because they are corrupted by greed and money. Even in the urban slums, women like Zehrunisa and Asha wouldn t have more freedom because women can t have a voice for themselves unless they have connections to other, more powerful people. Other women dislike and spit hate at Zehrunisa and Asha because they are more successful than them, rather than trying to work with them to be successful together. Since the people in Annawadi are so corrupted by money, they disregard for others wellbeing and resort to fighting or trash talk each other. For women, they are a burden for parents because of marriage and dowry. That is why mothers and fathers want their daughters to be perfect, with no scars or anything that would prevent them to get married. All the engagement is determined at a young age, so girls can not find love for themselves. Meena s future in laws might not come to hear that they d chosen an impetuous bride. (Boo 188). When Meena, a young Annawadi girl, tried to commit suicide with rat poison because she hated the life she was living, her brother beat her up because now there would be less chance for Meena to get married. They both had started their painting life since 1900, and they had had friendship during their lifetime. Which is easier to compare their artworks by year and find the similarities of how they were influent by each other. Such as Kandinsky s Improvisation and Klee s Colour shape in 1914, Kandinsky s Black Increasing and Klee s Black Knight in 1927. Thus, the four painting would be the artworks to compare. Two artists have the same perspective toward art. First, Kandinsky not only sees colours as different moods but also sees them as the sounds of music. He also assigned instrument tones to go with each colour: Red sounded like a trumpet; Green sounded like a middle position violin; Light Blue sounded like flute; Dark Blue sounded like a cello, Yellow sounded like a fanfare of trumpets; and White sounded like the pause in a harmonious melody.
