Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting Essay
Introduction
Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is a surgery that is done when arteries of the heart have
become narrow or blocked. This is usually caused by the buildup of fat called plaques. These
arteries give the heart the oxygen and nutrients it needs to pump blood to your body.
During CABG, a section of blood vessel from another part of the body is taken. This section is
called a graft. The graft is placed where there is narrowing or blocking.
What happens before the procedure?
Staying hydrated
Follow instructions from your doctor about hydration. These may include:
Up to 2 hours before the procedure you may continue to drink clear liquids, such as:
Water.
Clear fruit juice.
Black coffee.
Plain tea.
Eating and drinking restrictions

A cut (incision) will be made down the front of the chest through the breastbone (sternum).
The breastbone will be spread open so your heart can be seen.
You may be placed on a heart lung bypass machine. This machine will give oxygen to your blood
while your heart is being worked on.
If a heart lung bypass machine is needed, your heart will be briefly stopped.
A section of a blood vessel will be taken from another part of your body. It is usually taken from the
chest, arm, or leg. It will be used to go around (bypass) the blocked arteries of your heart.
You will be taken off the heart lung machine if it was used.
If your heart was stopped, it will be restarted.
Your chest will be closed.
A bandage (dressing) will be placed over the cuts.
Tubes will stay in your chest. They will be connected to a suction device. The device will help
drain fluid and reinflate the lungs.
The procedure may vary among doctors and hospitals.
What happens after the procedure?
Your blood pressure, heart rate, breathing rate, and blood oxygen level will be watched until the
medicines you were given have worn

The Influence and Role of Current U.S. Foreign Policy in Modern Italy
Since the beginning of the European Union, Europe has attempted to move forward as one unit in
order to compete with the United States and to be a strong force around the globe. In a statement
made by the Washington ambassadors of the present and acceding members to the European Union
in May 2004, they stated,
Europe now, for the first time in modern history, is a partnership sharing common values and a
commitment to harmony and cooperation. The dream of European integration, shared by the United
States, is now being realized, leaving behind us the wasteful era of wars, hostility, and inequalities.

Italy should prove to be a good resource for due to their well developed research and development
program.? Italy and the United States are in cooperation for this project under a bilateral science
and technology agreement and under the implementation of the International Energy Agency.? This
technology has important advantages such as more efficient fuel cells that can be used safely while
improving the environment and public health.? With Italy being part of this research, they have the
opportunity to add jobs to work with the hydrogen technology.? Once the technology is developed
and put into use, the countries involved will have the opportunity to purchase competitively priced
hydrogen power vehicles.? This would impact the economy for Italy since they will have state of
the art vehicles that would be more affordable to its citizens than if they were not involved with
developing this technology.? Working with these organizations also improves relations between the
United States and Italy and opens the door for future dealings and future U.S. policies that would
directly benefit Italy.?

Importance And Importance Of Maintenance Management
Maintenance Management is an orderly and systematic approach to planning, organizing,
monitoring and evaluating maintenance activities and their costs. A good maintenance
management system coupled with knowledgeable and capable maintenance staff can prevent
breakdown problems and environmental damage; yield longer asset life with fewer breakdowns;
and result in lower operating costsand a higher quality of heavy machinery.
Importance
Maintenance management is crucial to companies because proper maintenance makes workers
aware of the resources with which they have to work. When workers are aware of the cost and
nature of their maintenance resources, they are less likely to be wasteful with those resources.
They also are more aware of how their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ideally, the maintenance management system should be able to record maintenance tasks and
inventory/resources, provide feedback to the facilities operations manager for analysis, and support
the needs of the company and its customers. Computerized maintenance management software
programs often can meet these requirements and greatly reduce the amount of work necessary
compared to manual systems.
The word Operation is usually linked with Maintenance . To put these terms in context, Operation
is the performance of work or services and the provision of materials and energy to ensure the day
to day proper functioning of an asset, e.g., the work activities, associated chemicals and electricity
to run a water treatment plant. As such, it has a direct but simple impact on the cost of operating an
asset. Maintenance is the work performed on an asset such as a road, building, utility or piece of
equipment to preserve it in as near to its original condition as is practical and to realize its normal
life expectancy. This Technical Information Document, as its name implies, concentrates on
maintenance management systems only. In general, maintenance can be classified into the following

Maimonides Influence On Jewish Law
Rabbi Moshe ben Maimon, Talmudist, Halachist, physician, philosopher and communal leader,
known to the world at large as Maimonides, is considered to be one of the most important figures
in the history of scholarship (Fackenheim 171). Maimonides foundations of knowledge continues to
have a large presence in the fields of medicine, Jewish law, religion, and most notably, philosophy.
Maimonides achieved fame as a physician and wrote medical treatises on a number of diseases,
and proposed cures. His 10 medical treatises show his humanism as a physician, and emphasis on
preventative medicine. Through his medical scholarship, he emphasizes the treatment of the
whole patient, mind and body, which allows a doctor to be a more effective physician, as well as
a teacher of well being. He pioneered descriptions of diseases such as hepatitis, pneumonia,
diabetes, and asthma, as well as many others, with remarkably modern treatment methods for his
time. Maimonides was a physician of whom modern medicine would be proud if he were alive
today (Rosner). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prior to Maimonides, one would have to learn the entire Talmud to know Jewish law which is at
times indecisive and contains conflicting opinions. Maimonides indexed not only the Talmudic
rulings, but also written commentaries and oral law, and compile it in a logical and systematic
fashion. He also included Jewish traditions such as holidays, prayer, dietary laws, and the laws
that regulate the Jew s daily life. The Mishneh Torah remains the only work of this scope, that
covers the entire corpus of Jewish law

Appendix B Mathematical Extrapolation Technique for Predicting and Assessing Production
Performance
In this section developments in graphical methods of assessing water drive performance are
presented. An extensive number of graphical and mathematical extrapolation techniques is
available in the literature. A number mathematical extrapolationmethods were also assessed (not
presented here). Mathematical extrapolation technique presented by Dake (1994) was found to be
quite effective in predicting future production performance and in assessing the effects of any
remedial actions which has taken place. The method was tested on two fields, namely Miller and
Maureen. Description of method proposed by Dake is presented below.

Conversion from surface volumes to reservoir pore volumes is performed using the following
relationships:
N_pd=(N_p B_o)/(NB_oi )(1 S_wc)
W_id=W_i/(NB_oi )(1 S_wc)
Since 1PV=(NB_oi)/(1 S_wc )
Finally, the dependence of fractional flow at the producing end of the system on fractional flow at
reservoir conditions is expressed using the classical Buckley Leverett fraction flow function:
f_we=1/(1+B_o/B_w (1/f_ws 1))
It must be noted that in most water drive reservoirs before the water breakthrough, there is an
initial period of depletion. The fractional flow calculations, only take into account the oil recovered
by water injection. Therefore calculations can be performed only after the water breaks through in
the producing wells.
Prediction of final oil recovery
If injection rates during the latter part of the flood are relatively stable, then 1/Wid function can be
approximated by a straight line, which can be fitted by equation of the form:
(Оґf_we)/(ОґS_we )=aS_we+b
Where a and b are constants. Integrating the equation results in quadratic function: f_we=a^2/2
S_we^2+bS_we+c
Where c is constant. Predicted values of fwe and Swe obtained by extrapolation of the quadratic
equation above are then can be used in Welge equation for predicting Npd as a function of fwe,
which are then should be converted to surface conditions.

A CRITIQUE OF THE SNOW CHILD, TAKEN FROM ANGELA
CARTER’S...
A CRITIQUE OF THE SNOW CHILD, TAKEN FROM ANGELA CARTER S THE BLOODY
CHAMBER.
Throughout The Bloody Chamber , Angela Carter takes the highly successful conventions that
belong to once innocent fairy tales, and rips them unremorsefully from their seemingly sound
foundations to create a variety of dark, seductive, sensual stories, altering the landscapes beyond all
recognition and rewarding the heroines with the freedom of speech thus giving them license to grab
hold of the reigns of the story.
The Snow Child is one such story by Carter, where connotations seen in fairytales such as Sleeping
Beauty and Little Red Riding Hood are in evidence and are fused together accompanied by the
emergence of feminism to the foreground ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first example can be seen in the title of this story the aspect of snow suggests purity that
audiences have come to associate with the colour white whilst the word child suggests the
innocence that can only be possessed by children so young.
The connotations carried by colour are used to give us an insight into the personalities of both the
Count and the Countess. For we are told that the Count rides on a grey mare and the Countess on
a black one . Therefore, if the colour white is associated with purity and goodness as previously
mentioned, the colour black is at the opposite end of the spectrum, seeming to suggest evil whilst
the colour grey is in between not totally good but not totally evil either. This begs the question,
certainly in mind, as to whether or not we are supposed to feel some sort of ambivalence towards
the Count, given his associated colours however, his language and his later actions seem to deter
this thought.
Oh how I long for a girl as white as snow .
At face value, this certainly seems to suggest sexual desire yet the words girl , suggests innocence
and the colour white used in the simile suggests purity, possibly virginal purity which in today s

Cats Are Best Pets Essay
Garfield opened his eyes to the soft light filtering in through the window. He was king of his
castle, and his human would be there soon to feed him. This is a common scene in houses across
America. More cats are being adopted and loved by people every day. In this way, people have
started to realize that cats make great pets. Cats are amazing pets because they are self sufficient,
independent, and loving.
Cats are better pets than other domestic animals because they can take care of themselves. To
begin, some people believe that cats are needy, but Johnson s research states that cats are solitary
creatures who do not need their humans in order to survive (Johnson 45). A catcan exist without a

Positives And Negatives Of The Internet
This essay will discuss both the positives and negatives of the Internet and how it has impacted on
the music industry. Piracy, distribution and networking are just some of the aspects that have
drastically changed the music scene since the arrival of the Internet. Has the Internet changed the
music industry for the better or worse?
In the early 1960s a computer scientist called J. C. R. Licklider proposed the concept of a
Galactic Network . Investintech (2009) Licklider could see that having access to things like
software, digital libraries and banking all on a global network could be revolutionary. This idea of
a global network of computers ultimately led to the creation of the ARPANET . Raychel Rappold

CNN Money (2010) Millions of downloaders were attracted by this prospect of free downloads,
which then quickly led to the attraction of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA)
and artist such as Lars Ulrich of Metallica. This eventually led to a court order to shut Napster
down. A heated legal battle between Napster and the RIAA ends in March with an injunction
against the site. Napster shuts down its network in July, declares bankruptcy, and is later reborn as
a legal music subscription service in 2001 . Gearlog (2010)
The MP3 file format enabled music files to be shared with great ease across all computer
systems. The development of the MP3 compression standard in the early 90s allowed vast
amounts of digital audio information to be compressed into manageable files . David
Hesmondhalgh (2007) While the MP3 file format has its positives such as being digital, relatively
small in file size and maintaining good sound quality it also meant it was very easy to share for
free over the Internet.
Digital downloads have largely contributed to lack in CD sales and even forced some stores to
close down or revaluate their businesses. In 2004 Tower Records declared bankruptcy due to
digital downloading. Tower, has been unable to cope with competition from digital downloading
and file copying . BBC News (2004) The RIAA released a report stating that streaming services

Mentoring Essay
Mentoring Like most institutions in a world of change, the age old practice of mentoring is being
influenced by new forms of work, technology, and learning. Mentoring is typically defined as a
relationship between an experienced and a less experienced person in which the mentor provides
guidance, advice, support, and feedback to the protГ©gГ© (Haney 1997). Mentoringis a way to help
new employees learn about organizational culture(Bierema 1996), to facilitate personal and career
growth and development, and to expand opportunities for those traditionally hampered by
organizational barriers, such as women and minorities (Gunn 1995). The benefits of mentoring are

The Mentoring Institute (1997) maintains that, in the past, mentoring typically just happened as
experienced people recognized and developed new talent or as beginners sought the counsel of
knowledgeable elders. Now, the institute describes a new mentoring paradigm : todays
protГ©gГ©s are better educated but still need a mentors practical know how and wisdom ( craft
knowledge ) that can be acquired only experientially. Therefore, many organizations are instituting
formal mentoring programs as a cost effective way to upgrade skills, enhance recruitment and
retention, and increase job satisfaction (Jossi 1997).
Many mentoring programs have been geared specifically to women and minorities as a way of
helping them break into the Old Boy Network and through the Glass Ceiling. However, the value
of opening these opportunities to all is being recognized. Gunn (1995) suggests that a more
democratic approach to mentoring is emerging, open to more employees at more levels. For
example, a high level new employee hired because of specific expertise may still need the
coaching in organizational culture that mentors can provide, a form of partnership that is a two
way transfer of skills and experience (p. 65). This more inclusive mentoring strategy is seen as an
alternative to the career ladders and security that organizations are no longer providing (ibid.).
Another democratic approach is a trend toward group mentoring in which the mentor is

Religion in Latin America; the Age of Discovery and...
Religion played a big role in shaping the values, attitudes, and conduct of the Spanish during the
Age of Discovery and Conquest (1492 1579). The colonial church provided control and a standard
of conduct and living for the new world. In fact, the colonial church had even more power in
Spanish America then it did in Spain. Why this is important though, is because it limited the
possibility of rebellion and opposition. As long as the church was in place, there was Spanish
order, and as long as there was Spanish order, the colonization process could continue to run

The conversion process did not go on without a hitch though, throughout the new world
missionaries had many obstacles to overcome. The first problem they ran into was the vast
number of native languages they encountered. Another is the scattered geographical locations of
many tribes, because there wasn t an easy pattern to follow, Christianity and conversion could
not spread as rapidly as they would ve liked it to. A third way in which the conversion was more
difficult than intended, was when they came across native religions that shared some of the same
beliefs, although it helped that some basic ideologies were already in place, it was much harder
for Christianity to be seen as new and unique. Unlike the original settlers, evangelicals who
traveled to convert did not show the same respect for the indigenous g ds; the Christian g d was to
stand alone. The native religions were destructed very systematically; natives who practiced their
religions instead of converting were also prosecuted, and many times by the priests themselves. In
these areas of evangelical settlers who would conquest throughout Latin America, laws were even
put in place to ensure the practicing of Christianity. As declared by Prudence, the law dictated that
Natives, whatever their private beliefs, publicly comply with their conqueror s religion (Burkholder

Stereotypes In The Movie World War Z
What differs the movie World War Z from other zombie movies is the acting; it isn t typical zombie
acting. Frequently through the movie, the creatures aren t COMPLETELY insane. Little, nearly

Each actors role they played in the movie was hit at its fullest potential. The main character, Brad

buildings will experience indoor discomfort and this situation will lead to a higher demand for

that passive and low energy cooling are the most preferred techniques used to minimise the solar
load and conductive daytime heat gain through the building. Climate change does not only give an

Philosophical Principals Exemplified in The Truman Show...
In order to understand the moral fabric of the world, it is important to question any information
that is given to an individual, instead of blindly accepting the majority opinion and giving it full

the allegory of the cave, which is metaphorical scenario that attempts to explain the importance of
questioning norms that may seem trivial. Plato illustrates a cave where bounded prisoners have

throughout the movie, he ignored any suspicious act that threatened to obscure and interfere with
his concept of reality. For example, as Truman was walking out of his house, he noticed a studio

questioned it at first, Truman did not really bother investigating or looking into it, perhaps because
he was subconsciously afraid of what he would find. He chooses not to give the random incident
any importance and gets in his car, which further proves his underlying ignorance and reluctance to
accept things that may not conform to the norm. Shortly after, the producers of the show decide to

Rabbit Is Rich John Updike
Ever since the Middle Ages when royal family members fought for power of the throne, families
still grapple with the issue of hierarchy in society. It is what can tear apart families, making them
fight over who is right in certain situations. This is shown in the main plot of the story when
Harry and his mother in law, Bessie, argue over whether Harry s son, Nelson, can work with him
at Springer Motors. Each side believes it is right, and gives it s own opinion on if Nelson can be
an employee. In the novel Rabbit is Rich, author John Updike uses points of view to convey the
conflict of social hierarchy in the Springer Motors company. Harry s mother in law, Bessie, whose

Inclusive Practice in the Primary School.
How inclusive is Frederick Bird Primary School as a learning community?
Inclusive education is an unabashed announcement, a public and political declaration and
celebration of difference. (Corbett, J. 2001:134)
The principles of inclusion and their implications on school practice have been fiercely debated by
leading educational experts for many years. In 1994, delegates from 92 governments met at the
world conference on special needs education, to consider policy changes that would enable
educators to provide inclusive education for all. The result of this conference was the adoption of
The Salamanca Statement and Framework for Action which provides recommendations and

This is an essential exercise for any school striving to be inclusive. Ainscow (2007:3) argues that
the biggest challenge facing the education system, is the development of practices that will reach
out to learners failed by existing arrangements. It is my belief that the most effective way of
tackling this matter is through this collaborative way of working. This enables practitioners to
challenge and redefine entrenched views of difference that can have a negative impact on certain
types of learners and find new ways of moving forward.
This ethos is reflected in every day teaching and learning. Every child within the school is treated
respectfully as an individual and lessons are strategically planned to accommodate all needs and
aspirations. The level of differentiation employed can be seen clearly in the case of Kyle .
Kyle is a popular and intelligent Year 6 student. He is an all round sports enthusiast who relishes
any opportunity to take part in team experiences and possesses excellent leadership skills.
However, Kyle is dyslexic and came to Year 6 disengaged with his learning and lacking in self
esteem and motivation. It was through open conversations with previous teachers and his parents
that we were able to establish the basis for Kyle s disconnection with the curriculum. Kyle viewed
himself as an incapable underachiever due to the ability level of the work he was expected to

First Degree Burn Case Study
The body loses fluids that contain proteins and electrolytes. Since, the tissues are damaged in that
area, this leads to dehydration and electrolyte imbalance. Renal failure and circulatory shock is
what happens when the body becomes dehydrated from being burned. The extent of a burn is
determined by a concept known as the rule of nines, which assess how much of the body is burned,
so that the right treatment can be provided immediately.
Burns are classified according to their severity: first degree, second degree, and third degree
burns. First degree burns are less dangerous and the epidermis is only part of the skin that is

Definitions of and Treatment for Alcohol Abuse Essay
One out of every thirteen adults are considered to be an alcoholic or to suffer from drinking

and is based on both the physical and emotional dependency on alcohol. In many cases it leads to
brain damage or early death. Alcoholismis a chromic disease, which means that it will last a person

The Destructive Effects Of Iconoclasm During The Byzantine...
Makoto Emura 3/22/2015 The Destructive Effects of Iconoclasm during the Byzantine Empire In
the 4th century, the Roman Empire underwent major changes, becoming the Byzantine Empire.
The Roman religion was replaced by Christianity, specifically the Eastern Orthodox Church, as the
new state religion. Artists helped to spread this new religion by building churches and producing
manuscripts. The artists imagined what religious figures looked like to portray them in art. But
the Church criticized the visual representation of figures at certain periods during the Byzantine
Era. Artists lost their creative freedom during these periods, called iconoclasm. The Early
Byzantine Era ended when the first iconoclasm occurred. One manuscript created during the Early
Byzantine Era was the Rossano Gospels (Image 1). The Rossano Gospels is written in Medieval
Greek during the 6th century, and was discovered in Rossano, Italy. The parchment medium was
colored slightly purple with a rare dye to proclaim the importance of the document. Over time, it
turned red. The document is big 12 x 10.5 inches. As an illuminated manuscript, it is filled with
colorful illustrations. Image 1 shows Christ in Washing of the Feet and Last Supper. The identity of
Christ is easily discernable with his clothes and the golden circle behind his head. To add even more
emphasis, everyone around is looking toward him. Below the illustration are four Old Testament
authors pointing up. The text below them explains what

Macromolecules Research Paper
There are four major classes of macromolecules. They are lipids, carbohydrates, proteins, and
nucleic acids. There are many similarities between these macromolecules, and they all play a very
important role in biology. However, there are also many differences, especially between lipids and
the other three groups.
First of all, there are five main types of lipids. They are fats, waxes, oils, phospholipids, and
steroids. Lipids are hydrophobic, meaning they repel water and are nonpolar. The function of
lipids is to store energy and it also helps with keeping the structure of the cell walls. Generally a
lipid has a glycerol with three fatty acids attached to it. This is known as a triglyceride.
Phospholipids are a little different in that they only have two fatty acids and these fatty acids ...

All macromolecules except lipids are long chains made up of smaller building blocks. For
example, carbohydrates are polysaccharides which are just a bunch of monosaccharides.Proteins
are made up of amino acids and DNA and RNA are made up of nucleotides. Another difference is
that lipids are not soluble in water. Carbohydrates are all soluble in water, as well a nucleic acids.
Some proteins are and some proteins aren t soluble in water. The function of a lipid also differs
from that of a protein or nucleic acid. There are many functions to a protein depending on what
type of protein it is. Enzymatic proteins help to accelerate functions in the body such as
digestion. Transport proteins help move things across the cell membrane. There are many other
important functions of proteins too. The function of nucleic acids is to store information. Lipids
function is to store energy which is the same as carbohydrates, but lipids release more energy.
Lipids release 9 kcal/g. but carbohydrates only release 4 kcal/g. Lipids also have a role in cellular

Purpose Of Art And Cubism
Art is a general term for the expression of ideas. There are various forms of art, ranging from
painting and drawings, to writing, to music, as well as theatre. Through each of these art forms,
they have a purpose of expressing concerns the artists face as well as world issues. Art is
important as it helps people improve themselves (Armstrong, 2013). Defining the purpose of art is
personal and unique to each individual. From the Renaissance ages art was a reflection of ideas
that concerned men s mind. Michelangelo believed that the truth of any matter existed in nature. It
was the job of the artist to seek the truth within the world and capture it in his art. This way of
thinking is what made Michelangelo a great artist. The quote great artists have the social function
of constantly renewing the appearance of nature in the eyes of the public was mentioned by
Apollinaire, a French poet and an art critic(The Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica, 2017).
Apollinaire focused on the subject of modern painting, during 1880 1918, Cubism. Cubism was
considered to be pure art, it was a new way to view reality (TATE , 2017). It was a major style
during the 20th century, a modern twist to depictions of nature. Pablo Picassowas a major
contributor to Cubism art style. Through this new style, it was also a new interpretation of the
world. Many people did not agree with the art style while others found it pleasing to the eye.
Apollinaire argued that cubism painters no longer imitate

Persuasive Essay On Gender Pay Gap
In our constitution we are all equal, but why are we not paid equally? The gender wage gap
movement will result in social change because it is bringing awareness to women in the workplace
getting paid lower than her male counterpart. On the other hand, many other people may argue that
the gap is not because of gender, it is because menwork longer hours compared to women since
they have children to take care of. I believe that this movement could improve by making people
more aware of the through more examples such as the Women s U.S.A. Soccer Team wanting more
pay and equal pay.
The gender wage gap between men and women needs to be brought to people s attention due to
the cause of unequal amount of pay for the exact same job. Our question is what is a gender pay
gap? A gender wage gap is when you take the gap between both men and women s pay and get a
certain percentage and that is the gap between the two. This is a definition of gender pay gap
according to an Australian Government article, A gender pay gap is the difference between
women s and men s earnings, expressed as a percentage of men s earnings. Basically, you take
the difference, or subtract, between men s and women s earnings all over, divide, the men s
earnings and you get a percentage of the gap if there is any. Now, statistics have shown that the
women s gap has narrowed some since the 1980 s, but it still continues. Adult women showed that
the wage gap is smaller compared to the teen wage, 90 cents for every dollar made by a man. Said
by the article Fact Tank, ...adults ages 25 to 34, the 2015 wage gap is smaller. Women in this
group earned 90 cents for every dollar a man in the same age group earned. Women within the
age group of 25 to 34 gain 90 cents for every dollar a man within the same age group earned. If
you truly think about it sure the gap is slightly smaller, but why is it not equal? They are around
the same age and are doing the same job, whether it be part time or full time. Now it was also
stated within this article that these women, by estimation, would have to work around 44 days
extra in order for them to earn what their counterpart made in 2015. However, how does it get like
this? Is it possible that even with same or

Although its policy prohibits off the clock work, Wal Mart has created a system of rewards and
punishments that seem to give managers strong incentives to demand such work. According to
one policy, described in a deposition by a senior payroll executive, store managers are ordered to
keep payroll costs below a target set by headquarters for every store. If a store misses its target,
the manager faces a reprimand, and sometimes demotion or dismissal. Another incentive Wal
Mart gives store managers to squeeze down labor costs is pegging annual bonuses to the profits
of individual stores, a system that is rare amongst big retailers. OBJECTIVE OF STUDY For

Ackley s Descriptive Writing In The Catcher In The Rye

hatred for everyone and everything. Throughout the story he meets people that impact his life

don t much like to see old guys in their pajamas and bathrobes anyway (11) this introduces us to
the way adults view Holden and the way he views them in return this a big lack of understanding
Mr . Spencer dosen t know what s wrong with Holden but he wants to help by lecturing Him. Mr.
Spencer is a very nice teacher the character in the story seems to have a connection with Holden.
Even if he failed Holden for not writing his essay on the Egyptians, like he should ve had old
Spencer cares for him deeply. I d like to put a sense in that head of yours boy I m trying to help
you If I can (20) Holden thought differently than his teachers. Mr. Spencer made a big difference,
but that didn t mean he would be the change that still gives the reader a thought on Mr. Spencer

former roommate of Holden s has many weaknesses. Ackley is dirty, pimply, and all around
unhygienic he s annoying. He ll come into your room and pick your personal stuff and put it back

complaints from former inmates at the prison. He decided to investigate the allegations.
In July of 1963, along with Warden Nash and 15 witness s, Patrick Buchanan watched the
execution of convict Sammy Aire Tucker. A man who had a killed a police officer during a robbery.
Wearing a black blindfold, shorts and shoes, Tucker uttered his last words, Thanks for everything. .
The scene horrified Buchanan. A scene Warden Nash, had saw four times.
February of 1964 brought more criticisms to the penitentiary. In a study done by Myrl Alexander,
Director of the Southern Illinois University Center, he stated in a 15 page report, that there were
many problems at the penitentiary.
The report blamed Warden Nash and his officers. Officers who received a mere $262 per month,
were said to be under trained, and too old for the job. The study reported 490 acts of violence in a
30 month period. Warden Nash attempted to compromise, stating that he would use more
communication skills and come down harder on his staff.
In the summer of 1964, Warden Nash attempted to integrate black inmates with white inmates. June
9th, several white inmates jumped 11 black inmates on their way back to their bunks. The whites
wore pillow cases over their heads to hide their identity.
A few minutes later, one black

The Perestroika Reform And Glasnost Policy Programs
Under Mikhail Gorbachev the Soviet Union underwent massive social, political and economic
reform that drifted away from communist ideology and this ultimately lead to the collapse of the
Soviet Union and failure of communism in Eastern Europe. This essay will focus on how the
Perestroika reform and Glasnost policy programs as well as other external and internal pressures
contributed to the failure of communismunder Gorbachev. The aim of the Perestroika and Glasnost
reforms was to restructure and strengthen the Soviet political and economic system and provide
more freedom and democracy within the Soviet Unionwhile strengthening Communism. However,
these changes had achieved exactly what they aimed to prevent when they were first elaborated
and led to the failure of communism and collapse of the Soviet Union. While focusing on the
policies this essay will also focus on the major increase in nationalism that occurred in the Soviet
Republics as a result of the Glasnost. External pressure from the western world was also a factor
and the role that the United States and the Ronald Reagan administration played in the downfall of
communism under Gorbachev will be examined. The essay will also discuss how the
disintegration of Yugoslavia and the 1991 Coup d Г©tat led to the failure of the policies and failure
of communism.
Perestroika translates to restructuring and was a policy introduced by Gorbachev which intended to
reform the baseline of the Soviet economy in an attempt to

What are the Pros that you should expect? Advantages of Hiring a Freelancer 1.Reduced Cost
Even if you decide to work with a freelancer who asks for an hourly rate, you will still save
yourself a significant amount of money. Statistically speaking, you will be able to save at least
twenty to thirty percent each year. Remember, hiring a freelancer is not the same as when you
have a full time employee. A freelancer will not require you to pay him or her benefits such as
retirement benefits and health insurance. Also, you will be able to save on office cost. The
majority of the freelancers are remote. This means that you will not need an office or office
equipment. 2.Numerous Talent to Choose From Every time you decide to hire a freelancer, you
are guaranteed to get someone to meet your needs quite easily. With the rise of free job websites,
all types of freelancers are available. In the freelance platforms, you will find writers, marketers,
programmers, designers, and more. All you need to do after choosing your talent is to agree to the

Apple s First True Love Essay
Crying
I was told as a child that strong people don t cry. For many years I barely shed a tear. I remember
not crying at my grandfather s funeral because I wanted to be strong.
As I grew older, it became harder and harder to carry so much pain and anxiety inside and I became
weighed down.
Then one day, I could no longer hold it in and while I was alone, I cried. To my amazement, I felt
so much relief and realized, it takes a strong person to cry.
Now, my muscles are growing slowly, and every once in a while, I ll shed a tear. My tearsare
mostly of joy now because I feel free. Every blue moon my tears may be due to sadness and that s
okay.
Either way, crying is relief.
Be patient if you see someone shed a tear, it may not have come easy for them. Apple s First True

On those days, I would just sit and listen to you tell me stories about your day or your life. I loved
listening to your stories because you ve had a rather fascinating life and are an interesting man.
We can t leave out your comedic side, you are Mr. Personality and one of the funniest men I ve
ever met and I love laughing with you. If you ever quit your day job, you can easily be a comedian.
I appreciate your strength and your resolve that you don t quit once you set your mind to
accomplishing something, you work seemingly effortlessly until you achieve your goal.
Thank you for understanding that my silence and lack of not sharing about myself didn t mean I
didn t care but that I trusted you.
Then one day, I came over to hang out with you and I just started sharing myself with you and you
attentively listened. You interjected as needed, but you listened and heard what I said, more
importantly, you understood and I felt safe.
Thank you for listening without judgement. Talking to you wasn t even scary until I realized what

Persuasive Essay On Teaching Students
There should be a policy for teacher to enforce teaching student for them to be getting good
nutrition and health as throughout school time as well as the school district to help encourage it.
The United States Department of Agriculture s core child nutrition program helps to impact
school nutrition policies such as their financial aspects of school food service operation and what
types of food will be better for children that they will eat.(Weir and Sharma) Schools should have
healthy breakfast also a lunch that they serve for students to get an idea of what food are good for
them and not to just give them bad nutrients.
In most schools you will see at least someone being a student or a teacher being overweight. As
Frankowski is an evangelist ,when it comes to promoting nutrition and fitness, which is something
she saw when she went to a school, she says, There are kids that are not just chubby but are quite a
bit overweight in just about every class that I go into (Krupp). This is significant to why each
student should have a couple of the same opportunity as the other children to get into better
condition or be educated to have healthy nutrition. Another thing is to also get the parents involved
to help their own child to not become obese.
There are variety of foods that help children grow stronger and vigorous and one of them is milk.
There are different types of milk higher non cow milk consumption and lower height the non cow

Animal Characteristics Of A Bat Star
What s a bat and star combined that lives underwater? The answer is bat star! Bat star, or asterina
miniata (scientific name) is a marvelous invertebrate. Its scientific name was way too complicated
to comprehend, but bat star had another name called patiria miniata , which meant vermilion dish
(scarlet dish). In this animalreport, I will be presenting animal anatomy and appearance (bat star s
physical characteristics), classification (what kind of invertebrate bat star is, how I know it, etc.),
habitat (where bat star lives) and diet (what bat star eats and other information about bat star s
food). A bat star looks like an ordinary chubby, plump starfish. However, it has webbings on the
arms that look like a bat wing! A bat star is not enormous or huge. It s normally about 4 inches in
radius. It can be a little bit bigger though. It can be 6 to 8 inches in radius as well. It has a radial
symmetry and it can weigh up to 11 lb according to general fact about starfish. Unfortunately, a bat

Bat stars eat other types of sea star, algae and other animals and plants. Since bat stars are
omnivores, bat stars can eat plants and animals at the same time, dead or alive. Bat stars get
their food by scavenging animals. However, bat stars are unusual. They can push their stomach
from their mouth to catch their prey. Once they catch their prey, they digest it with a digestive
liquid. Bat stars are somewhere in the middle of the food web. We can see that bat stars are
somewhere in the middle of the food web by looking at their prey and predators. We can clearly
see that bat stars eat algae, other sea stars, etc. This shows that bat stars are not in high position of
the food web like humans that eat almost everything. However, bat stars are not really low in the
food web because it is a predator to shellfish, tunicate worms, etc. This shows that bat stars are in
the middle. They get eaten by predators, but bat stars themselves are also

Sustainability and Urban Development
Sustainability and Development
Introduction
Sustainable development and sustainability have been the focus of many researchers in various
disciplines for quite some time now. The current distribution of natural resources and their
allocation is modeled on an infinite growth assumption. The mainstream economic perspective
assumes that the market will allocate resources in the most efficient way possible. Yet there are
many externalities that often left out of this model such as clean air, clean water, and the carrying
capacity of the Earth s natural systems. For example, when someone used oil as a source of fuel,
the pollution from its use is not counted in the standard economic perspective. Furthermore, the fact
that oil is a nonrenewable resource is also not effectively included in these models.
Sustainable development incorporates various social and economic objectives that try to
optimize the use of natural resources in the society. It is a broad topic but is centered on trying to
make the most efficient use of the resources that are available while also ensuring that there are
resources available for future generations. The main objective of sustainable development is to
achieve a reasonable and equitable distribution of resources that can offer a high level of well
being for all generations; those that are currently alive and those are yet to be born. In order to
achieve sustainability, the society and the planet as a whole has to have the regenerative ability to

tale told by Francis about Alan, his friend and his own experiences with the enigmatic Dr
Caligari and his companion, the somnambulist, Cesare. The image taken from the film depicts
Dr Caligari on stage hawking his exhibit of Cesare the somnambulist at the fair to a crowd of
people gathered in front of him. As it is a silent film and hearing dialogue was not yet an option,
an individual s costume and appearance, combined with their acting, was the way their character s

Kansas can place offenders who finish their jail sentence in mental institutions instead of allowing
them to go free. The Supreme Court of the United States upheld this law (Internet: Reynolds). This
seems ridiculous to me, if these people need to be punished more, stiffen their jail time. If they
could not be sentenced to a life sentence for their crime, they should not serve a life term. These
sex offender registries are equivalent to life sentences. This problem reaches West Virginians as
well, if on a lower scale. Kanawha County became the first West Virginia county to publish a sex
offender registry when they did so in September. Lucia Moses of the Herald Dispatch reports that
on November 12, Cabell County became the second (Moses 1 C). Twenty four sex offenders, who
must register for life, reside in Cabell County (Moses 3 C).
Still, federal law mandates that every state keep a sex offender register. They do not need to
publish them. I think that the register should be in the hands of the police, and, in the case of child
molesters, the board of education as well. The publishing of these registers would, most likely,
cause a detrimental effect within the community. Once a community knows that a sex offender
lives in the midst of them, a dark cloud will descend on the neighborhood. This could lead to
threatening phone calls and vigilantism against the offender and

Foreshadowing In The Chocolate War
The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier is a book that provides a sneak peek behind the scenes at
the harmony before the havoc. The book provides a look at how one person fights through the
battle of finding oneself, trying to fix a mistake they made, and how it affects those around
them. The Chocolate War begins with the line They murdered him. An opening that, at first lead to
confusion, then became an enormous point of foreshadowing in the story. The author begins by
creating a sensory image of our characters playing football, getting injured, and leading the reader
to believe that this is what the story would be about. The book really is leading the reader into a

getting their school back, until the persistent headmaster Brother Leon steps in to ask Archie and
the Vigils for help selling the excessively ordered 20,000 boxes of chocolate at $2 a box. That s
when The Chocolate War begins. Any time Archie hands out an assignment he has to draw from a

Like soma drug in Brave New World, in The Giver, there is a relief of pain medication that is
provided to community members to relieve their pains so that no one can suffer. Whenever there
is any kind of unpleasant thought or pain or disease, people are immediately given this unnamed
medication. This medication is given to all people of the community except for the Giver who

The first view concerns the authoritarian governments who see that by achieving conformity and
sameness, they succeed to achieve happiness, stability and consequently utopia. The second view
concerns the dystopian protagonists, Bernard Marx, John the Savage and Jonas, who see that by
losing individuality, identity, freedom, love and family in return for unreal false happiness and
superficial stability, the people lost their humanity and live in a dystopia. In Brave New World,
Mustafa Mond confirms the first view of the authorities:
The world s stable now. People are happy; they get what they want, and they never want what
they can t get. They re well off; they re safe; they re never ill; they re not afraid of death; they re
blissfully ignorant of passion and old age; they re plagued with no mothers or fathers; they ve got
no wives, or children, or lovers to feel strongly about; they re so conditioned that they practically
can t help behaving as they ought to behave (Huxley, Brave 183).

At the age of three John Hurston moved the family to Eatonville, where he would become mayor

article, Bowman states that one problem that can occur while using an EHR has to do with the
software system itself. She explains how software systems can have flaws that put the patient s
information in jeopardy because these systems can be acquire bugs and viruses which causes the
patient s information to be lost and/or deleted (Bowman, 2013). Other problems derived from EHR

  • 2. Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting Essay Introduction Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is a surgery that is done when arteries of the heart have become narrow or blocked. This is usually caused by the buildup of fat called plaques. These arteries give the heart the oxygen and nutrients it needs to pump blood to your body. During CABG, a section of blood vessel from another part of the body is taken. This section is called a graft. The graft is placed where there is narrowing or blocking. What happens before the procedure? Staying hydrated Follow instructions from your doctor about hydration. These may include: Up to 2 hours before the procedure you may continue to drink clear liquids, such as: Water. Clear fruit juice. Black coffee. Plain tea. A cut (incision) will be made down the front of the chest through the breastbone (sternum). The breastbone will be spread open so your heart can be seen. You may be placed on a heart lung bypass machine. This machine will give oxygen to your blood while your heart is being worked on. If a heart lung bypass machine is needed, your heart will be briefly stopped. A section of a blood vessel will be taken from another part of your body. It is usually taken from the chest, arm, or leg. The device will help drain fluid and reinflate the lungs. The procedure may vary among doctors and hospitals. What happens after the procedure? Your blood pressure, heart rate, breathing rate, and blood oxygen level will be watched until the medicines you were given have worn ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Influence and Role of Current U.S. Foreign Policy in Modern Italy Since the beginning of the European Union, Europe has attempted to move forward as one unit in order to compete with the United States and to be a strong force around the globe. In a statement made by the Washington ambassadors of the present and acceding members to the European Union in May 2004, they stated, Europe now, for the first time in modern history, is a partnership sharing common values and a commitment to harmony and cooperation. The dream of European integration, shared by the United States, is now being realized, leaving behind us the wasteful era of wars, hostility, and inequalities. Importance And Importance Of Maintenance Management Maintenance Management is an orderly and systematic approach to planning, organizing, monitoring and evaluating maintenance activities and their costs. A good maintenance management system coupled with knowledgeable and capable maintenance staff can prevent breakdown problems and environmental damage; yield longer asset life with fewer breakdowns; and result in lower operating costsand a higher quality of heavy machinery. Importance Maintenance management is crucial to companies because proper maintenance makes workers aware of the resources with which they have to work. When workers are aware of the cost and nature of their maintenance resources, they are less likely to be wasteful with those resources. They also are more aware of how their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ideally, the maintenance management system should be able to record maintenance tasks and inventory/resources, provide feedback to the facilities operations manager for analysis, and support the needs of the company and its customers. Computerized maintenance management software programs often can meet these requirements and greatly reduce the amount of work necessary compared to manual systems. The word Operation is usually linked with Maintenance . To put these terms in context, Operation is the performance of work or services and the provision of materials and energy to ensure the day to day proper functioning of an asset, e.g., the work activities, associated chemicals and electricity to run a water treatment plant. As such, it has a direct but simple impact on the cost of operating an asset. Maintenance is the work performed on an asset such as a road, building, utility or piece of equipment to preserve it in as near to its original condition as is practical and to realize its normal life expectancy. • 5. Maimonides Influence On Jewish Law Rabbi Moshe ben Maimon, Talmudist, Halachist, physician, philosopher and communal leader, known to the world at large as Maimonides, is considered to be one of the most important figures in the history of scholarship (Fackenheim 171). Maimonides foundations of knowledge continues to have a large presence in the fields of medicine, Jewish law, religion, and most notably, philosophy. Maimonides achieved fame as a physician and wrote medical treatises on a number of diseases, and proposed cures. His 10 medical treatises show his humanism as a physician, and emphasis on preventative medicine. Through his medical scholarship, he emphasizes the treatment of the whole patient, mind and body, which allows a doctor to be a more effective physician, as well as a teacher of well being. He pioneered descriptions of diseases such as hepatitis, pneumonia, diabetes, and asthma, as well as many others, with remarkably modern treatment methods for his time. Maimonides was a physician of whom modern medicine would be proud if he were alive today (Rosner). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Maimonides indexed not only the Talmudic rulings, but also written commentaries and oral law, and compile it in a logical and systematic fashion. Appendix B Mathematical Extrapolation Technique for Predicting and Assessing Production Performance In this section developments in graphical methods of assessing water drive performance are presented. An extensive number of graphical and mathematical extrapolation techniques is available in the literature. A number mathematical extrapolationmethods were also assessed (not presented here). Mathematical extrapolation technique presented by Dake (1994) was found to be quite effective in predicting future production performance and in assessing the effects of any remedial actions which has taken place. Conversion from surface volumes to reservoir pore volumes is performed using the following relationships: N_pd=(N_p B_o)/(NB_oi )(1 S_wc) W_id=W_i/(NB_oi )(1 S_wc) Since 1PV=(NB_oi)/(1 S_wc ) Finally, the dependence of fractional flow at the producing end of the system on fractional flow at reservoir conditions is expressed using the classical Buckley Leverett fraction flow function: f_we=1/(1+B_o/B_w (1/f_ws 1)) It must be noted that in most water drive reservoirs before the water breakthrough, there is an initial period of depletion. The fractional flow calculations, only take into account the oil recovered by water injection. Therefore calculations can be performed only after the water breaks through in the producing wells. Prediction of final oil recovery If injection rates during the latter part of the flood are relatively stable, then 1/Wid function can be approximated by a straight line, which can be fitted by equation of the form: (Оґf_we)/(ОґS_we )=aS_we+b Where a and b are constants. Integrating the equation results in quadratic function: f_we=a^2/2 S_we^2+bS_we+c Where c is constant. Predicted values of fwe and Swe obtained by extrapolation of the quadratic equation above are then can be used in Welge equation for predicting Npd as a function of fwe, which are then should be converted to surface conditions. • 7. A CRITIQUE OF THE SNOW CHILD, TAKEN FROM ANGELA CARTER’S... A CRITIQUE OF THE SNOW CHILD, TAKEN FROM ANGELA CARTER S THE BLOODY CHAMBER. Throughout The Bloody Chamber , Angela Carter takes the highly successful conventions that belong to once innocent fairy tales, and rips them unremorsefully from their seemingly sound foundations to create a variety of dark, seductive, sensual stories, altering the landscapes beyond all recognition and rewarding the heroines with the freedom of speech thus giving them license to grab hold of the reigns of the story. The Snow Child is one such story by Carter, where connotations seen in fairytales such as Sleeping Beauty and Little Red Riding Hood are in evidence and are fused together accompanied by the emergence of feminism to the foreground ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first example can be seen in the title of this story the aspect of snow suggests purity that audiences have come to associate with the colour white whilst the word child suggests the innocence that can only be possessed by children so young. The connotations carried by colour are used to give us an insight into the personalities of both the Count and the Countess. For we are told that the Count rides on a grey mare and the Countess on a black one . Therefore, if the colour white is associated with purity and goodness as previously mentioned, the colour black is at the opposite end of the spectrum, seeming to suggest evil whilst the colour grey is in between not totally good but not totally evil either. This begs the question, certainly in mind, as to whether or not we are supposed to feel some sort of ambivalence towards the Count, given his associated colours however, his language and his later actions seem to deter this thought. Oh how I long for a girl as white as snow . At face value, this certainly seems to suggest sexual desire yet the words girl , suggests innocence and the colour white used in the simile suggests purity, possibly virginal purity which in today s context ... Piracy, distribution and networking are just some of the aspects that have drastically changed the music scene since the arrival of the Internet. Has the Internet changed the music industry for the better or worse? In the early 1960s a computer scientist called J. C. R. Licklider proposed the concept of a Galactic Network . Investintech (2009) Licklider could see that having access to things like software, digital libraries and banking all on a global network could be revolutionary. • 11. Mentoring Essay Mentoring Like most institutions in a world of change, the age old practice of mentoring is being influenced by new forms of work, technology, and learning. Mentoring is typically defined as a relationship between an experienced and a less experienced person in which the mentor provides guidance, advice, support, and feedback to the protГ©gГ© (Haney 1997). Mentoringis a way to help new employees learn about organizational culture(Bierema 1996), to facilitate personal and career growth and development, and to expand opportunities for those traditionally hampered by organizational barriers, such as women and minorities (Gunn 1995). The Mentoring Institute (1997) maintains that, in the past, mentoring typically just happened as experienced people recognized and developed new talent or as beginners sought the counsel of knowledgeable elders. Now, the institute describes a new mentoring paradigm : todays protГ©gГ©s are better educated but still need a mentors practical know how and wisdom ( craft knowledge ) that can be acquired only experientially. Therefore, many organizations are instituting formal mentoring programs as a cost effective way to upgrade skills, enhance recruitment and retention, and increase job satisfaction (Jossi 1997). Many mentoring programs have been geared specifically to women and minorities as a way of helping them break into the Old Boy Network and through the Glass Ceiling. However, the value of opening these opportunities to all is being recognized. Gunn (1995) suggests that a more democratic approach to mentoring is emerging, open to more employees at more levels. For example, a high level new employee hired because of specific expertise may still need the coaching in organizational culture that mentors can provide, a form of partnership that is a two way transfer of skills and experience (p. 65). This more inclusive mentoring strategy is seen as an alternative to the career ladders and security that organizations are no longer providing (ibid.). Another democratic approach is a trend toward group mentoring in which the mentor is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Religion played a big role in shaping the values, attitudes, and conduct of the Spanish during the Age of Discovery and Conquest (1492 1579). The colonial church provided control and a standard of conduct and living for the new world. In fact, the colonial church had even more power in Spanish America then it did in Spain. Why this is important though, is because it limited the possibility of rebellion and opposition. As long as the church was in place, there was Spanish order, and as long as there was Spanish order, the colonization process could continue to run smoothly and prosper. A third way in which the conversion was more difficult than intended, was when they came across native religions that shared some of the same beliefs, although it helped that some basic ideologies were already in place, it was much harder for Christianity to be seen as new and unique. The quote reflects many philosophical principles that are exemplified in both The Truman Show and in the Allegory of the Cave. To start off, the quote addresses the underlying ignorance that is evident in both Plato s and Weir s works. Truman was living his entire life inside a metaphorical bubble. In many instances throughout the movie, he ignored any suspicious act that threatened to obscure and interfere with his concept of reality. For example, as Truman was walking out of his house, he noticed a studio light that suddenly fell from the sky just as he was about to get in his car. Even though he questioned it at first, Truman did not really bother investigating or looking into it, perhaps because he was subconsciously afraid of what he would find. He chooses not to give the random incident any importance and gets in his car, which further proves his underlying ignorance and reluctance to accept things that may not conform to the norm. Shortly after, the producers of the show decide to make an excuse for the set malfunction, and it is soon forgotten. Additionally, when Sylvia tells him upfront that his entire life is a lie, he chooses to ignore it, until he himself starts to question his life. In the same way, in Plato s allegory of the ... Makoto Emura 3/22/2015 The Destructive Effects of Iconoclasm during the Byzantine Empire In the 4th century, the Roman Empire underwent major changes, becoming the Byzantine Empire. The Roman religion was replaced by Christianity, specifically the Eastern Orthodox Church, as the new state religion. Artists helped to spread this new religion by building churches and producing manuscripts. The artists imagined what religious figures looked like to portray them in art. But the Church criticized the visual representation of figures at certain periods during the Byzantine Era. Artists lost their creative freedom during these periods, called iconoclasm. Through each of these art forms, they have a purpose of expressing concerns the artists face as well as world issues. Art is important as it helps people improve themselves (Armstrong, 2013). Defining the purpose of art is personal and unique to each individual. From the Renaissance ages art was a reflection of ideas that concerned men s mind. Michelangelo believed that the truth of any matter existed in nature. It was the job of the artist to seek the truth within the world and capture it in his art. The gender wage gap movement will result in social change because it is bringing awareness to women in the workplace getting paid lower than her male counterpart. On the other hand, many other people may argue that the gap is not because of gender, it is because menwork longer hours compared to women since they have children to take care of. I believe that this movement could improve by making people more aware of the through more examples such as the Women s U.S.A. Soccer Team wanting more pay and equal pay. The gender wage gap between men and women needs to be brought to people s attention due to the cause of unequal amount of pay for the exact same job. Our question is what is a gender pay gap? A gender wage gap is when you take the gap between both men and women s pay and get a certain percentage and that is the gap between the two. This is a definition of gender pay gap according to an Australian Government article, A gender pay gap is the difference between women s and men s earnings, expressed as a percentage of men s earnings. Basically, you take the difference, or subtract, between men s and women s earnings all over, divide, the men s earnings and you get a percentage of the gap if there is any. Now, statistics have shown that the women s gap has narrowed some since the 1980 s, but it still continues. Adult women showed that the wage gap is smaller compared to the teen wage, 90 cents for every dollar made by a man. Said by the article Fact Tank, ...adults ages 25 to 34, the 2015 wage gap is smaller. Women in this group earned 90 cents for every dollar a man in the same age group earned. Women within the age group of 25 to 34 gain 90 cents for every dollar a man within the same age group earned. If you truly think about it sure the gap is slightly smaller, but why is it not equal? They are around the same age and are doing the same job, whether it be part time or full time. Now it was also stated within this article that these women, by estimation, would have to work around 44 days extra in order for them to earn what their counterpart made in 2015. If a store misses its target, the manager faces a reprimand, and sometimes demotion or dismissal. Another incentive Wal Mart gives store managers to squeeze down labor costs is pegging annual bonuses to the profits of individual stores, a system that is rare amongst big retailers. • 45. Sustainability and Urban Development Sustainability and Development Introduction Sustainable development and sustainability have been the focus of many researchers in various disciplines for quite some time now. The current distribution of natural resources and their allocation is modeled on an infinite growth assumption. The mainstream economic perspective assumes that the market will allocate resources in the most efficient way possible. Yet there are many externalities that often left out of this model such as clean air, clean water, and the carrying capacity of the Earth s natural systems. For example, when someone used oil as a source of fuel, the pollution from its use is not counted in the standard economic perspective. Furthermore, the fact that oil is a nonrenewable resource is also not effectively included in these models. Sustainable development incorporates various social and economic objectives that try to optimize the use of natural resources in the society. It is a broad topic but is centered on trying to make the most efficient use of the resources that are available while also ensuring that there are resources available for future generations. The main objective of sustainable development is to achieve a reasonable and equitable distribution of resources that can offer a high level of well being for all generations; those that are currently alive and those are yet to be born. Eatonville was like no other town in the United States during the last years of the Nineteenth century (Hemenway). In 1863, Eatonville was one of the first all black towns to be chartered after the emancipation proclamation and in 1887 was the first of these towns to be incorporated.
