The Pros And Cons Of Attending College
High school Seniors are faced with a very important decision regarding their future. Where should a
person attend college following graduation? Attending college is important in helping people
receive a college degree that will help in educating them for a successful future. Deciding where to
attend collegecan be a challenging choice. The Universityof Kansas(KU) and Washburn University
(WU) are two colleges where one can obtain a degree. When deciding which college to attend, one
must consider the costs involved, the housing options, and the student activities offered.
When comparing colleges, a person should look at the various expenses and costs of each
college. An expense that comes with attending college is the cost of tuition. The cost of tuition
at KU is $330.25 per credit hour based on taking thirty credits annually. AT WU, the tuition is
cheaper as the cost per credit hour is $281. Along with the cost of tuition, there are multiple fees
that college attendees will be required to pay. The campus fees at the University of Kansas is
$916 for those enrolled in six or more credit hours. The fees at Washburn University are far more
expensive, as one would pay $1,650 for taking six or more credit hours. Another cost that college
students will be responsible for is housing. With living on campus, the housing costs at both
colleges depends on which dorm one chooses. An advantage of living on campus is that food costs
are covered in the housing plan. For instance, at KU,

Jonathan Haidt s Hard Times
In the book Hard Times (1856/1995), by Charles Dickens, the citizens of Coketown are faced with
moral situations. The characters have caused emotional harm to others or themselves due to their
decisions. Most of the replies to these moral dilemmas are based on how selfish or selfless these
characters. They can only choose between the choices that value the other people or value
themselves. Two characters that make these decisions are Stephen, a worker at the Hand in
Coketown, and Louisa, the daughter of a teacher in the town. Some of their choices may seem
questionable to others. But most of them can be explained in Jonathan Haidts book The Righteous
Mind. In his book, Haidt explains about the six moral foundations, two of them... Show more

Us humans are selectively fair to those that have a positive relationship with us and those who have
a negative relationship towards us are known as cheaters.
Cheating
The association between Stephen and his wife is a solid example of the cheating rudiment. He is
making dishonest choices because he does not have a healthy relationship with his wife anymore.
After meeting an old woman, Stephen started thinking about Racheal: He thought of the number
of girls and women she had seen marry...how she had contentedly pursued her own lone quite
path for him. (p.82) When we love someone, we tend to think often about the person we have
feelings for. He is cheating on his wife because he is fantasizing about Racheal instead of his
current wife. Later, his wife was about to drink poison until Racheal came to save her from it.
Before drinking the poison, Stephen s wife passes Stephen, who appears to be asleep. But it turned
out that All this time, as if a spell were on him, he was motionless and powerless, except to watch
her. Stephen wasn t asleep. Rather than saving her from accidentally poisoning, Stephen decided to
do nothing but watch her fall into her death. This is cheating because he would rather have her dead
than preventing him from having a marriage with Racheal. He would sacrifice her only for his
satisfaction. Before this event, Stephen tells Mr. Bounderby that his relationship goes From bad to
worse, from worse to worsen. She left

Analysis of RemarkeВґs All Quiet on the Western Front
A major reiterated theme of Remarque s novel All Quiet on the Western Front focuses on
BУ“umer, the narrator, and his comrade s accurate view of World War I and how greatly it
contrasts to the ideas of the older generation who persuaded the youth to join the war for
defending Germany. An analysis of BУ“umer s attitude toward the war reveals that the world of
his former authority no longer exists. His first encounters on the front shatter his trust and belief
in the views and teachings of the generation that should have been their mentors, directing this
inexperienced Iron Youth (18) into the world and preparing him for what would have been his
future life. Now, BУ“umer realizes that, if he survives the war, he can never return to ideas or
desires of his youth nor ever truly re enter into the lives that the generations before and after him
belong. The older generations, consisting of BУ“umer s parents and teachers, receive the war with
a joyous enthusiasm of a chance to display German might and honor, though no one had an idea of
what the soldiers, their children, would have to endure. They, especially BУ“umer s teacher
Kantorek, took every possibility to persuasively impress this patriotic idea upon the younger
generation: that duty to one s country is the greatest thing (13). This generation, the ones who were
to equip and direct the younger so that they may survive in this world, was basically sending their
sons in blindly and completely unprepared for the true horrors of

How Does Liam O Flaherty Use Figurative Language In The...
This story follows a sniper and his fight to survive a day in the Irish civil war. The setting takes
place in Dublin, Ireland around the battle of the Four Courts, which does take place in history. The
sniper, settled on a rooftop, tries to relax, but soon fights for his life against an armored car and
more importantly against another sniper. In The Sniper by Liam O Flaherty, symbolism and
figurative language exemplify that civil wardivides a whole country, not just any one group of
people or soldiers.
O Flaherty s use of symbolism allows this story to encompass a whole country in its talk of division
while only having four characters. The two analogous snipers contain similarities to each other in
their locations, actions, mannerisms, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A historical allusion lies in this text as a reference to the Irish civil war between the Republicans
and the Free Staters. The Sniper takes place in Dublin, Ireland, but this means nothing unless it
takes place like it does during ...the Irish civil war of the early 1920s (Korb 225). This allusion
to the civil war in Ireland acts as a great reference to history while trying to communicate the idea
of how civil war divides an entire country as a whole. The reason that this allusion communicates
so well lies in the fact that it brings the mind to reality, instead of viewing The Sniper as a made
up story. In this story exists a situational irony that comes across as the biggest point of the story,
in which a sniper kills his brother. Out of the entire story the biggest point ...emphasizes one of
the greatest ironies of civil war: Brother is pitted against brother (Shuman 3). This acts as
situational irony because no one expects that the enemy sniper could turn out as the brother of
the Republican sniper. This irony shows how war does not only affect the soldiers but their
families as well because they have to suffer the death of their children. Finally, the fact that The
Sniper takes place in Dublin at the Four Courts represents with imagery what happens there, how
civil war destroys the people s history and culture. The fighting of the Irish civil war takes place
in the streets of Dublin for a while and ...around the beleaguered Four Courts where the heavy guns
roar[] (O Flaherty 1). The way that this shows how the entire country becomes affected, exists in
how the Four Courts lay under siege with cannons firing around them. The people s culture and
history becomes destroyed by being under siege and thus indirectly does hurt the people of Ireland.
Allusion, situational irony, and imagery all assist the message that civil war affects the

Persuasive Essay On How To Discipline A Child
As Plato once proclaimed, Do not train a child to learn by force or harshness; but direct them to it
by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar
bent of the genius of each depicting that being harsh when disciplining a child is not necessary.
There are a variety of strategies to follow when punishing a child such as time out, the removal of a
prized possession, grounding the youngster, or spanking which depend on their matureness.
Although, every guardian has a different view toward how lenient each action should be, all parents
disciplinetheir children in aspiration to retain authority over them and teach them beneficial
characteristics.
Furthermore, divergent factors influence parents beliefs on which action to perform when instilling
a helpful lecture on their offspring. Many parents are controversial on the fact of how to take
disciplined actions upon their kids since environmental perspectives alter their views; as a matter of
fact, guardians shape the discipline by state regulations for child welfare, the influence of relatives,
and family dynamics in hopes of keeping authority over their children. A determining factor by
which parents prioritize on to decide how to discipline their child is through established state
regulations. Although corporal punishment is banned in approximately 49 countries, it is legal in
the United States. Disciplining a minor is permissible in all 50 states with the idea that it is

Birth Order Essay
Birth Order Families are the first system to which one belongs. Each person has his or her own
specific niche in the family. The order in which each child was born influences that niche,
therefore influencing who that person becomes (Collins). Whether one was born first, middle,
or last in reference to siblings can decide mannerisms that a person has, how far he or she goes in
life, and how he or she interacts with other people. An oldest is defined as the first born in a
family, first born of a certain gender, or a person whose closest sibling in age of the same gender
is five or more years older than him or her. They tend to be organized, responsible, scholarly, and
perfectionists (Lemain). Oldest children become this way because they receive... Show more content

When a part of a community continues to use excess power against others, it becomes necessary
to dissolve political bonds between that part or country to alleviate tense relationships. Rights for
all citizens are self evident. Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness should be allowed to all

Hollywood And Its Commercial Aesthetic
Hollywood cinema is primarily subjected to telling stories. The inclination of Hollywood
narratives comes not just from good chronicles but from good story telling. The following essay
will discuss Hollywood s commercial aesthetic as applied to storytelling, expand on the
characteristics of the principles of classical film narration and evaluate alternative modes of
narration and other deviations from the classical mode. a)Hollywood s commercial aesthetic as
applied to storytelling: According to Richard Maltby (2003) commercial aesthetic is used to
describe Hollywood s aesthetics system, driven as it is by the existence of entertainment as a
commercial commodity. From this perspective, Hollywood s most profound significance lies in
its ability to turn pleasure into a product we can buy. An understanding of Hollywood s
commercial aesthetic requires a consideration of both the formal conventions of Hollywood
movies and the external social and cultural pressures that regulate movies as products of a system
of mass production and distribution (pp. 580 581). Each Hollywood movie is best implicated as an
opportunist congregation of unalike elements as reasoned out by Maltby. In order to best mollify
the (perceived) market place at a particular point in time these rudiments are transported together by
producers and production companies. Furthermore, Maltby debates that this may result in movies
which are dogged by competing (and perhaps contradictory) impulses and it

The Computer And The Computers
Jaciya Wade
Professor Kruse

16 March 2016
The computer is one of the most used electronics in everyday life. The internet and the computer
connects one place to another, Japan to Alaska, Canada to South America and so on. What is never
thought of is the programs that go into the websites that are used on a regular basis, Facebook,
twitter and Instagram. Without them there would be a complete disconnect between every
continent, country, and city. No outside information would cycle in or out and trade of any kind,
be it information or the discovery of more resources, would be reduced to a snail s pace. The same
could be said for the information that doctors that work in laboratories and architects that build
homes use, without the different computer programs and the internet, the services they provide
would basically become non existent. Computer programs are very important to prevent loss of
life, such as the programs used in hospitals for life support or programs used to determine
whether or not there is electricity going through a downed powerline. For example, at Ameren
there is a program that is ranked as a class 1 system which means that if field employees didn t have
access this program it could lead to loss of life (Boyd). Becoming a computer programmer has many
benefits such as compensation, job satisfaction, and telecommuting, but every job has cons some of
which are the current job outlook, health hazards and general computer security.

Lamont Symphony Orchestra performed three beautiful sets of music that was conducted by
Ryan Kozak with Hisham Bravo Groover, Assistant Conductors and Lawrence Golan being the
Music Director and Conductor at Denver University on Thursday, November 17, 2016 in June
Swaner Concert Hall at 7:30pm. Kozak conducted all three of the of the pieces; Danse Macabre Op
40 by Camille Saint SaГ«ns (1835 to 1921), Isle of the Dead, Op. 29 by Sergei Rachmaninoff
which is my favorite out of all three pieces (1873 to 1943), and Symphony No. 5, Op. 107 by Felix
Mendelssohn (1809 to 1847). Walking into the concert hall I was flabbergasted. The size of the
room just amazed me and the stage was fantastic to say the least. Made me more excited for the
show to start! As I sat down in my seat I noticed all the types of people in the concert hall were
dressed in many different sets of attire. Elderly people were better dressed with their suits and
dresses and pant suits where the younger people in the concert hall were still nicely dressed but
were a little more casual. After what seemed like forever the lights finally began to go dim and I
knew the show was about to start. In the first piece, Saint SaГ«ns, setting of the poem, the solo
violin represents the devil who is playing his fiddle for the dance. The dance begins at the stroke
of midnight in a graveyard. The harp begins the work with 12 strokes,

Soap Operas Vs Pop Culture
When WGN Radio in Chicago first aired Painted Houses in 1930, a uniquely American form of
entertainment came into the world (Allen, 1985). In the eighty seven years since its birth, the
American daytime soap opera has entertained the masses through a great depression, two World
Wars, and 15 Presidents. The programs go by the moniker soap operas because the first producers
and sponsor of the programs were soap manufacturers such as Proctor and Gamble (Allen, 1985).
Since their introduction, the soap genre has captured the imaginations of millions and frequently
influenced other forms of entertainment. Sadly, today this beloved and persuasive pop culture
pioneer is at risk. At the present time, the number of American soap operas... Show more content on

Such celebrities include; Demi Moore, Meg Ryan, and Brad Pitt, just to name a few (Barnes,
B., Instyle.com). Furthermore, some established A list actors and actresses seek out roles on
soaps as fans of the show themselves. One example is the case of Elizabeth Taylor seeking out a
role on General Hospital in the 1980 s. Naturally, Gloria Monte, General Hospital head writer at
that time, honored Taylor s wish and cast her in the role of Helena Cassadine (Ford, 2010).
Similarly, General Hospital again created a role for James Franco in 2009 when he took on the
part of Robert Franco an artist/serial killer. Finally, celebrities aside, soap operas, as an undeniable
pop culture phenomenon, have been relevant and thus significant to countless everyday Americans
and American households over the past eight plus decades. Soaps, originally designed to appeal to
the average American, normally have at least one viewer in the midst of most families, while some
families have several soap watchers, who make viewing a daily family ritual (Healy, 2012). Stay at
home wives and mothers, the first target demographic of the daytime drama, historically felt the
influence of soap operas first, then shared that influence with the rest of the family, often times
without the rest of the family even realizing. One example of this is the number of children who

Satire In Blessed Are The Poor, By Mark Twain
Mark Twain s writing gives the impression that he follows an unexplored and uncharted path.
While writing for newspapers, he exposed himself as an inventor and he actually patented three
inventions. While he visited places to deliver his lectures he was celebrated for his fine and
exceptional sense of humour. At times his speeches and writings bear the mark of satire about the
mentality and behaviour of people in the United States of America. Satire is a tool for making
remarks about absurdities of the society is a casual and mocking way.

He thinks the Sunday schools curb the liberty of little boys and girls. According to him religion
should not be taught with a compelling attitude. Mark Twain mocks at the typical and

who turn[s] himself into a bulletin board (49) by reading long and tiresome lists of a variety of
meetings, the little German boy (49) who delivers Biblical verses without a pause and then

that Sundays should be meant to be spent according to the taste of the individuals and not
according to the order of others. In such a case even religious sentiments vanishes off and the faith
in God gets minimized. When the church service is disturbed by dogs Tom Sawyer thinks, Tom
Sawyer went home quite cheerful, thinking to himself that there was some satisfaction about divine
service when there was a bit of variety in it

Qualitative Solubility Test Lab Report
Discussion of Results:
In week one we performed a qualitative solubility test of our fats and oils, synthesized our soaps
and detergents, and performed a solubility test and lathering test for the soaps and detergents. We
wanted to test the solubility of our starting materials of the soap making process to understand the
properties of the materials. In our initial solubility test of the starting materials, we found that most
of the materials were insoluble. As you can see in Table 2.0, olive oil and vegetable oil were only
soluble in toluene and the shortening and lard were only partially soluble in acetone. In order to
understand the solubility of the soaps and detergents, after our synthesis and filtration, we
performed a qualitative solubility test with each of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As shown in Table 3.0, it was difficult to stir and combine the shortening and the lard with the
sodium hydroxide and glycerol. Though the oil based soaps were easy to make, they did not
yield as much compared to the fat based soaps. Table 6.0 shows that Soap 3 which was
shortening based and Soap 4 which was lard based produced 11.18 g and 11.22 g, respectively.
This was a much greater yield than the oil based soaps. Soap 1 which used olive oil yielded
3.154 grams and soap 2 using vegetable oil yielded 1.319 grams. This was something to consider
when choosing which starting material to use and depends on whether ease of synthesis or
greater yield is more important. The detergent synthesis methods were very similar but method 2
took less steps and was a bit easier than method 1. Table 6.0 shows that detergent 2 had a greater
yield, 5.143 grams whereas detergent 1 had a yield of about 4 grams. The lathering test showed
that though soaps 3 and 4 produced the most product of the soaps, they did not create many
bubbles or a good lather according to Table 7.0. The soaps/detergents that produced the most
bubbles were soap 1 which used olive oil followed by detergent 1 and then soap 2

Progressive Era
The progressive movement is a middle class response to take on the problems that was caused
by the industrialization in the rapid social change that took place during the civil war. It is a
collection of reform movements. The progressive era was when reformers or activists who were
working to solve the problems in the American society and the government were trying to end the
laissez faire. The root of progressive started during the glided age. This era started in 1890 and
ended in 1920. A solution was needed to eliminate all the problems that was faced over the years.

Analyzing The Concept Of Zeta Score And The Details It...
1.Expound on credit analysis. Use the concept of zeta score and the details it includes?
Credit analysis is the process by which financial institutions examine the creditability, credit history
and financial situation of a client or potential borrowers. No bank or moneylender would wish to
jeopardize their money, therefore necessitating this process. At the same time, for bondportfolio
managers or investors to debt issuing companies, the basis of their credit rating and financial
situations also need to be established. The process of investigation to get this information also
defines credit analysis. Credit rating is an important instrument used by lenders when performing

It makes the issuer want to retrieve the bonds before the expiry of the allocated time so as to
resell them at lower interest rates. The issuer reserves the right to return investors principal and
stop interest payment before the maturity of bonds, of course at a higher rate than what the bond
was sold at. Due to this reason, the duration is not applicable to callable bonds.
Similar to this, duration has no applicability in the case of common stocks and real estate. It is
because a common stock is the subject of high risk due to fluctuations in prices. In the event of
stocks, investors will tend to sell stocks any time when their price is higher than prices on the date
of acquisition. The investment in stocks and real estate is made to gain higher returns whenever
their prices increase. Due to this reason, period or maturity term is not applicable in common
stocks and real estate, since their disposal is heavily pegged on the market prices.
b) Describe the way duration is used and how it is adjusted with convexity? The most popular way
in which duration is employed by the investors is to measure the volatility of the bond or any other
financial security. As time progresses, stock prices and yields fluctuate and in most cases, this
fluctuation was not foreseen. Due to this reason, investors usually select a specified period to
measure the performance of securities, which is significant identifying the level of risk associated

Microchips in humans
Microchips in Humans In today s society, technology continues to find new ways to protect our
children and families. Several devises have already been developed to track children when they
are away from home. These devises work by GPS signal to track the movement of the child and
are worn externally or are imbedded in an item of clothing. There are also GPS devices already
approved for implantation in humans. VeriChip was the only Food and Drug Administration
approved human implantable microchip for use in medical purposes (DHHS pg. 71702 71704).
These developments have sparked a debate over whether we should consider implanting microchips
in humans for tracking and safety reasons and not just medical purposes. Today there are... Show

In combination with the surgery, the implant represents a permanent intrusion of our privacy.
With an implanted microchip, your brain is hotwired into a computer that has a GPS tracking
systems to monitor your movements, every minute of every day, for the rest of your life. Just
imagine how creepy that really sounds. The concept of privacy for anyone implanted would
never exist again. To protect our privacy, we need to better understand its value and the purpose
it serves. Privacy is understood as an important barrier that gives us space to develop an identity
that is separate from the supervision, assessments, and values of our society. Privacy is crucial
for helping us manage all of the pressures that shape the type of person we are in society. Privacy
is also used as the groundwork to protect our other fundamental rights. If our right to privacy were
compromised then our other rights would soon faultier as well. To implant microchips into human
being seems to be a clear case of intrusion of our bodies and our lives. Another reason our
government should not allow microchips implanted in humans is that it would serve no real
purpose except to track our movements and why should anyone have that much power over any
individual. We need to consider the bigger picture as stated in this article: Imagine what the
government could do with this kind of technology. If it wanted to, it could use this technology to
track literally every movement and behavior of

Zefferelli s Interpretation Of Romeo And Juliet
The original death scene in the play by Shakespeare was a major part of the story and people
have remade this scene in many different ways. Some good interpretations of this scene are
Romeo and Juliet (The shakespeare version), Romeo and Juliet (the Zefferelli version), and a
piece of art called Romeo and Juliet: the Tomb Scene By Joseph Wright. Although these are
accurate interpretations they have their differences. In the text Shakespeare puts a lot of
emphasis on the role that fate plays in the way that Romeo and Juliet s unfortunate end. He does
this to show that love conquers hate and that sometimes it takes a terrible event to stop the
conflicts of the people that need it. Romeo there dead, was husband to that Juliet; and she, there
dead, that Romeo s faithful wife. (Shakespeare 104) The death scene elaborates on this because if
only one thing was changed their deaths could have been prevented and this whole ordeal wouldn

had on this whole situation. In this scene Shakespeare Romeo speaks a lot of his sorrow and this
is pushed on the readers as they read the final scene.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

These factors are only to be associated with your average four door sedan and/or light truck.
These do not include your 18 wheelers, heavy trucks, or the gas guzzling vans that emit more

according to Scientific American cars relate as much as 30 gallons of GHG, while only driving

the movie Adjustment Bureau and the play Antigone . The play and movie have a couple
similarities but one that sticks out to me is the characters choices and consequences. The main
characters I noticed was David Norris and Creon. They both were major parts in their piece of art

They have a couple things that really stand out, one being politics and another I noticed being
the act of defying a higher power. Creon defied a seer in his story. Creon goes and decides to
defy Tiresias, a very old seer. Tiresias is a seer which means they can predict the future and warn
people about what is to come for them if it is bad. Now Tiresias has been in this game for a long
time, probably even dating back farther than Creon s parents. Tiresias definitely knows what he
s doing. Tiresias tells Creon of a sight he had about Creon. It is very bad for Creon it is a sight
telling of his whole family dying but Creon doesn t want to believe it. Creon disgraces Tiresias
and is very rude to him. Creon defies Tiresias and gets his whole family killed in the process.
Defying a higher power did not go so well for Creon but for David it went pretty well. David
defied the Adjustment Bureau. The Adjustment Bureau is a Bureau of immortal people that have
a plan for everyone s lives and are supposed to keep them on track so they basically make your
entire life. Although many things could happen to take your life off track, but they re there to
make sure your life stays on track. The Adjustment Bureau tells David not to see this girl Ellis,
who he has fallen in love with because of the Adjustment Bureau messing up and not keeping his
life on track. Although David is in love with this girl so he would do anything to be with her so he

Scarcity, Accessibility, Utilization And Stability Factors...
Chapter 5
The availability, accessibility, utilization and stability factors affecting the intake of fruits from
trees in forest areas in Cameroon
Introduction and problem
In sub Saharan Africa, just under one in every four people, or 23.2 percent of the population, is
estimated to be undernourished in 2014 16 (FAO et al., 2015). This is the highest prevalence of
undernourishment for any region in the World and, with about 220 million hungry people in 2014
16, the second highest burden in absolute terms. The number of undernourished people increased
by 44 million between 1990 to 92 and 2014 to 2016. In the Central African sub region, the number
of undernourished people more than doubled between 1990 92 and 2014 16 (FAO et al., 2015).
The lack of progress in the rate of undernourishment in absolute terms reflects prevailing problems
in the sub region, notably poor food consumption patterns caused amongst others by limited
understanding on the dimensions of food security, political instability and forest degradation. It is
therefore absolute to carry out investigations to properly understand the dimensions of food security
especially with changing environmental conditions. Promoting the consumption of fruits in poor
communities and amongst vulnerable groups could help in addressing problems of nutrient
deficiency and malnutrition (Kehlenbeck et al., 2013; Place et al., 2013; Tchoundjeu et al., 2012).

Music And Political Conflict Between Hong Kong And China

Hong Kong and China, I intend to demonstrate the penetrating power of music, as a social

perspective of different actors within the whole process of making political songs, such as the

writers in making music in relates to a particular social phenomenon?, Does the rise of political

historical and political contexts are banded in China?
Literature Review (based on 3 peer reviewed scholarly sources):
The common assumption throughout the selected sources was to describe the intensification of the
conflict between Hong Kong And Public Republic Of China through contextual data. (Baehr
2001; Wai Chung Ho, 2000; Wai Chung 2006) In the first place, it is important to have
knowledge of the origin of the political conflict between Hong Kong and Public Republic of
China before examining its relation to the hot flash of local politic song. Baehr (2001) depicts The
retrocession of Hong Kong to China on 1 July 1997 was marked a major consequences for both
domestic and Chinese politics. The focal point is that One country, two systems has become the
constitutional principle to Hong Kong, and remain unchanged for 50 years. Not surprisingly, social
problems arise due to the hardship in assuring everyone to share a common value within the society,
which is the matter of identity . To further examine this idea, Baehr highlights that

Market Liberalisation Success, Failures And Challenges
Evidence of Market Liberalisation Success, Failures and Challenges The BRIC emerging
economies are some of the most successful market liberalisers with India having particular
prosperity in liberalising its inward capital flows and currency convertibility from 1991 to
foreign investors. Post liberalisation India is regarded as one of the fastest growing economies
with an annual growth rate of 6.86% compared to 4.07% pre liberalisation (World Bank, 2014).
Economists such as Saikia (2012) regards this success down to India s rise in investment. In the
decade after reforms FDI inflows to India has grown by a staggering sixty fold increase to $6
billion (Kletzer, 2004) showing how the India economy has become a major destination for FDI and
is reaping the economic benefits. One of the policies causing this attraction is the ongoing gradual
privatisation of varied sectors. This gradualism approach has promoted efficiency through
competition away from monopolized state owned enterprises but also into global competition. The
increased profitability of this process has created an environment for investors to thrive upon. Aside
from India s great success the issue of the continued dominant role of state owned banks is an
ongoing issue. India follows our theoretical argument of being inefficient due to government
guarantees and consequently must fund recapitalisation in the light of declining market share and
profitability. However recent private bank involvement in crises around the

Capssaicin Research Paper
Capsaicin is a chemical that is found in chili peppers which causes the heat when you eat spicy
foods. In order to detect the capsaicin that is found in the foods that you eat, your body has
receptors on sensory neurons. The receptors are known as capsaicin receptors and found in the
dendrites of the sensory neurons better known as nociceptors. (Caterina) When your body receives
that feeling of pain or heat, it is due to capsaicinreceptor recognizing capsaicin, but also the ability
of the capsaicin receptor to act as an ion channel, which is found in a category known as the

Basaltic Vs Rhyolitic Essay
Explain the differences between Basaltic, Rhyolitic and Andesitic volcanic eruptions with reference
to processes, which lead to the eruptions, the type of volcano produced and the reasons for the

Volcanic eruptions are caused by a red hot liquid rock, called magma inside the earth s core.
Volcanoes erupt when magma rises to the surface of the earth, which causes bubbles of gas to
appear in it. This gas can cause pressure to build up in the mountain, and it eventually explodes.
When the magma bursts out of the earth, it is called lava. The type of magma in the earth can create

Teaching evolution involves scientifically proven theory which means that people should learn
about it and then can proceed to make their own decision. Evolution is relative to the study of
biological anthropology because it explains how humans and todays primates have become
what they are. It reveals connections between the species as well. Genetically apes and humans
are similar and this proves that some million years ago humans and apes evolved from the same
species. If learning about evolution was outlawed then that would cut out a wide range of
subjects humans can learn about themselves. By analyzing all possibilities of the history of the

realizing this was going to be a similar beast to Grendel, was going to have to fight her alone.
This time, Beowulf is going to go on the offensive and attack Grendel s mother in her lair
underneath the lake. Grasping a breath of air, Beowulf dives into the lake and spends a day
swimming to the lair. Upon his arrival, Beowulf is immediately attacked by Grendel s mother
but his armor protects him. He is pulled further into the lair and realizes that she is much
tougher than Grendel was and that he won t be able to defeat her with his bare hands. He spots a
sword in the lair and grabs it. In one big swing, Beowulf severs her head, and she falls to the
ground. Another victory for Beowulf and the people of Heorot. Beowulf then spots Grendel s
body on the ground and in a rage, severs his head too. Beowulf then returns to Heorot and is
crowned the ruler of the city and the Danes. Shortly after the defeat of Grendel s mother, a 50
foot dragon began attacking the city of Heorot. The dragon flew all over the land, burning and
destroying everything, because someone stole his golden cup. The city of Heorot was almost
completely destroyed and Beowulf yet again, realizes that he is going to have to step up and take
down this beast. Beowulf does exactly that and says he will be taking down this dragon, but he is

An organization who strives to adapt with the surrounding environment, internally and externally,
has a better chance of surviving in a competitive market than one who does not. To be an effective
learning organization the management must be willing to listen to its employees and their
customers to grow their brands. When management is open with their employees through all levels
of the organization, the employees will be more willing to speak their minds. Once employees
speak up with innovative ideas, leadership must show they are listening by giving feedback or
integrating those ideas into their operations. Human relations allow this type of interaction between
leaders and workers to take ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If an organization is already established and wants to become an effective learning organization
they have to take into account their relationship with their employees at the time they make this
decision. If the employees who currently work for management are not self energized, committed,
responsible and creative beings (Kinicki, 2012) (or any combination thereof) like McGregor
assumes, they will not be able to jump in to some of the activities that leading organizations are
doing. Managers will need to understand that if they developed an environment where management
is superior and the employees are workers, any part of the human relations theory will not benefit
them quickly. Managers will need to gain the trust of their employees and actually listen to their
emotions. International organizations will have to integrate the culture s values in which they are
working in. Other countries norms may not fall under the assumption that employees can seek
responsibility. There are countries who view their leadership as royalty and that norm carries over
to their business. Management and employees may not be able to socialize as easily as American
based business. This would create a gap in the employee s ability to integrate their creativity and use
their imagination. Countries like China, who have multiple factory sweatshop

The Building Of Western Civilization
The Building of Western Civilization:
An Environmental Rebirth
Author s Note: This is a renovation of The Collapse of Western Civilization: A View from the
Future by Naomi Oreskes Erik M. Conway. This smaller version of a semi fictional essay is meant
to be taken as a parallel universe to what they imaged, but with one vital difference; immediate
action is taken in an effort to limit the damage from climate change. In this version, the children of
Enlightenment take action to address the serious issue of climate change, but still have to deal with
the damage already done by greenhouse gas emissions and a vast corporate world that opposes
every change suggested.
In the early twenty first century the United States was acutely aware of climate change and the
human effects that contributed to its growth. There were climate models that predicted a
variable increase in the global temperature of 4.5 degrees Fahrenheit by the year 2100, as well as
a rise in sea level between 1 and 4 feet.1 According to these models, CO2 emissions started to
increase at the same time as the Industrial Revolution in the late eighteenth century. The increase
in factory machinery as well as land use both caused a spike in the emission levels. Humanity had
a larger effect on climate change then was ever deemed possible and it was documented,
understood, and fought by many. Between 2000 and 2016, a number of think tanks arose that took
on a single minded mission to spread the seed of doubt among

How Men Respond To Women In Red
There are no signs that the battle of the sexes will slow down anytime soon. And now, women can
quote psychology when the urge to call men animals become irresistible.
Interestingly, the evidence that men could be animals, after all, relies on how men respond to
women in red.
According to experimental psychology, men love ladies in red. Well, you knew that already, didn t
you? What you may not know are the reasons why men find women in red so attractive and
sexually desirable.
For the longest time, we assumed that pure social conditioning was why red was such a hit. We
lazily blamed Hollywood and Saint Valentine. But now, researchers have demonstrated that there
are biological reasons why red is the color of love, romance, sex and lust. ... Show more content on

In yet another study, they changed the frame of the picture into different colors. In all presentations
where there was some red, men rated the woman as more attractive and more sexually desirable. In
the red shirt and blue shirt study, when the researchers included a query on dating, men found the
lady in red more dateable. They were also willing to spend more money on her than when she was
in blue.
To rule out social conditioning, the researchers tested whether color red influenced the men s
ratings. The men were unaware of the role of color in their decision. They believed that their
judgments were thoughtful and sophisticated. Conversely, the researchers described the men s
choice as automatic and rather primitive. The men were even unaware that the photos belonged to
the same woman.
Remarkably, the red effect clouded men s judgments only when they were rating the woman s
attractiveness and sexual desirability. It did not influence them when they were assessing the
woman s friendliness, kindness, and intelligence. Also, women who participated in the lady in red
study did not exhibit the color bias. The red effect is therefore limited to males and

Essay on Exploring Death in Death in Venice
Exploring Death in Death in Venice
Death in Venice by Thomas Mann, is a story that deals with mortality on many different levels.
There is the obvious physical death by cholera, and the cyclical death in nature: in the beginning it
is spring and in the end, autumn. We see a kind of death of the ego in Gustav Aschenbach s
dreams. Venice itself is a personificationof death, and death is seen as the leitmotif in musical
terms. It is also reflected in the idea of the traveler coming to the end of a long fatiguing journey.
It must also be noted there are no women in the story with prominent roles. The hero s wife is long
dead and his daughter has been married and gone for many years. Any women in the story are

9, 14). It is ironic that Aschenbach, who had written his book The Abject as a rebuke to the
excess of a psychology ridden age (13) succumbs to an egoless state, not only in the last grotesque
dream, but directly after it in his conscious mind as well. From this point on, Gustav becomes
totally shameless. (We have seen this theme of loss of shame as being a kind of death, and actually
leading to literal death as well, in Salman Rushdie s Shame.)
Mann s use of Venice as a backdrop is critical. Venice, an ancient city, inexorably sinking beneath
the water, a forbidden spot (38) with stagnant lagoons (28) the fallen queen of the sea (36).
Venice, with a faintly rotten scent (37) half fairy tale, half snare (55) that hid sickness for love of
gain . . . (56). The city that had a disreputable secret [like] his own (57).
In musical terms, death is the leitmotif, the theme keeps reappearing: heard in the overture (the first
stranger Aschenbach sees in Munich), continually sounded in the Venetian passages (more odd
men), swelling to a crescendo of hysterical laughter and swirling pipes of Pan, and, in the

The Importance Of Technology In The Private Eye
The Private Eye (by Brian K. Vaughan, Marcos Martins with Muntsa Vicente), a sci fi graphic
novel, explores society s views on technology by defying what the reader may expect by
portraying a society that strongly opposes and fears current world attitudes towards technology.
Privacy in this world is seen as so exceedingly important that society in it has completely rejected
the internet. They still advance technologically, but in a different direction than in the real world,
and use various kinds of masks and other appearance altering technologies for the sake of privacy.
They gravitate towards these types of technologybecause of familiarity, and deny anything that
could potentially compromise their privacy, like the internet. Essentially, it s a moral thing, but to
the degree that threatening privacy would be like threatening their freedom. Privacy is part of
what being a human is to these people. It s a natural thing that everyone should have to them. This
is where The Private Eye and real life are most alike in that one s idea of what it is to be human
determines willingness to acceptnew technologies. Familiarity is what causes this idea of what
human is when it comes to accepting new technology or ideas.
In real life, people generally enjoy the ideas of sci fi esque technologies in theory. The reason many
inventions in science fiction don t actually exist is because they go beyond what people consider
human, at least the doable ones. Sure, technology is intended to

Women s Impact On American History
In today s society, fraternities and sororities have been known to have major impressions on
students who attend college. In some cases, Greek organizations and their standings at universities
aid in determining ones choice for higher education. For example, some schools are known for
sports, others are known for their Black Greek Letter Organizations. When it comes to fraternities
and sororitiesin general, the topic could seem somewhat controversial due to mixed emotions and
beliefs. While attending an HBCU (Historically Black College and University) the accusations of
Greeks running the yard became vividly true. The topic of research to be discussed is
objectification, power and the perception of African Americans affiliated with sororities and
fraternities at Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
The country s verifiably Black Greek letter associations (BGLOs), by and large alluded to as the
Divine Nine, have had fundamental impact in American history. Since each association s
establishing all through the 20th century, Black organizations and sororities have not just given
African Americans with a group to uplift each other, they have additionally made striking
commitments to society, especially in the ranges of social liberties, social welfare and
governmental issues.
The rundown of trailblazing African Americans who have hailed from BGLOs compasses the

Francisco to go to bed, but just after, they are joined by Horatio and Marcellus. Francisco leaves
and the other three men continue to talk about ghosts and apparitions. Horatio expresses his
disbelief in ghosts, but this soon changes when they are encountered with one. Horatio seems a bit
scared, but because he is the scholar, Bernardo tells him to talk to the ghost, as that is the only way
it will communicate with them. They believe it is the ghost of the late King of Denmark, but when
Horatio suggests this, it seems offended and goes away. The men seem to take the ghosts as a
warning about the threat of attack from Norway, because Prince ... Show more content on

The Use of and Elipse to Help Pool Player
Architecture, games, astronomy and medicine have something in common, even if it s not
obvious at first sight. What connects these different areas is called Conic Sections. Where do they
come from? Conic Sections are figures formed by the intersection of a plane and a right circular
cone. A conic section may be a circle, an ellipse, a parabola, or a hyperbola. They were first
discovered by a Greek mathematician, Menaechmus. He wanted to come up with a model that
showed all three different conic sections. With the help of Appollonius, they came up with the
Double Napped Cone , which clearly shows all three different shapes. In this project, I m going
to study and analyze specifically the ellipse. What is an ellipse? It s the set of points on a plane
whose sum of the distance of two fixed points is constant . The main parts on an ellipse are:
center, foci and vertices. The focus is the most important and the most used in real life. The foci
determine the shape of the ellipse, therefore the vertices, endpoints, major axis and minor axis.
The ellipse is found mostly in architecture and astronomy. For example, in London, the St. Paul
Cathedral has an elliptical form. Studies have proven that if two people stand at the two foci, and
one of them whispers, the other guy can hear it clearly. In astronomy, lots of people confuse
ellipse with eclipse; THEY ARE TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THINGS! The ellipse is very
useful to astronomers because it defines the distance between the sun

Execution Poem Analysis
In this poem Execution written by Edward Hirsch tells a philosophical reflection expressed with
sadness about a sicken high school football coach who is extremely passionate. The overview of
this poem is centered around his favorite word execution. Execution is expressed in multiple ways
in this poem. Life was about football for the coach, he would pour in his blood sweat and tears to
the game. There was no that he received every inch of effort from his player. Countless hours of
preparation, practice, and energy was devoted. You would think working this hard would bring
upon serious exhaustion, but the coach was like an energizer bunny, he would keep going.
Unfortunately this lifestyle caught up with him, the speakersays he developed cancer. I believe that
he spent too much time on the game of football. Ultimately this is what lead to his illness, the
neglection of his self for the game that he loved. Details from the poem will be used to argue my
claim. These details are relevant to how the coach acted and his philosophies. The significance
that we get out of my claim is thought provoking. The type of execution he was preaching to the
team went into full effect in the form of cancer towards him. Let me start off by saying that the
coach had great intentions for the way he coached. Hardnosed, no nonsense guy, who taught
discipline. Learning the art of discipline helps you on the field, but the results are even more
notable off the field in everyday life. You cannot go wrong with being a disciplined individual. Real
big on fundamentals, a perfectionist at teaching them. The speaker states, And had perfect
unquestioning faith in the fundamentals of blocking and talking, the idea of warfare without
suffering or death, the concept of teammates moving in harmony like planets. An architect at work
piecing together a formula to prepare his team the best way he can. Losing was not an option, the
speaker says that the coach despised losing. I personally hate losing myself so I can relate. Losing
to me is like getting stabbed in the back. It hurts tremendously to not come out victorious. I do not
fault the coach for putting the team through strenuous drills or drilling formations and plays in their
head.

Depiction of Cultural and Religious Beliefs in Artwork
Depiction of cultural and religious beliefs have been an important element in many artworks. The
newly formed Early Christian religion, the Roman culture, and the Greek culture are no exception
to this occurrence. Though living close in proximity to each other, their views differed vastly, in
respect to both religionand culture. Roman and Greek views indulged the here and now , while
those views of the Early Christians centered on the hereafter . It is upon the examination of a
few artworks taken from either side, that this contrast becomes extremely apparent. Though
there was an idea of an afterlife in Roman and Greek mythology, it was generally not taken
seriously by the people. Thus the All that is good in this worldly life, is the only good to seek
mentality prevailed. In their numerous artworks we see this mentality in the display of scenes
of indulgence, of worldly matters, and finery. In fact, the purpose of the artwork itself is that it
is meant to be a beautifying piece, to grace the homes and villas, and add to the beauty of this
world. In the sculpture Discobolos different aspects of worldly good are identifiable. A youthful
man with a well sculpted body poses in a way that accentuates his muscles, as he prepares to
throw a discus. From this sculpture and many others similar to it, one can see first of all that there
is a great respect for sports, which are an in the moment game. When playing or watching the sport,

  • 2. The Pros And Cons Of Attending College High school Seniors are faced with a very important decision regarding their future. Where should a person attend college following graduation? Attending college is important in helping people receive a college degree that will help in educating them for a successful future. Deciding where to attend collegecan be a challenging choice. The Universityof Kansas(KU) and Washburn University (WU) are two colleges where one can obtain a degree. When deciding which college to attend, one must consider the costs involved, the housing options, and the student activities offered. When comparing colleges, a person should look at the various expenses and costs of each college. An expense that comes with attending college is the cost of tuition. The cost of tuition at KU is $330.25 per credit hour based on taking thirty credits annually. AT WU, the tuition is cheaper as the cost per credit hour is $281. Along with the cost of tuition, there are multiple fees that college attendees will be required to pay. The campus fees at the University of Kansas is $916 for those enrolled in six or more credit hours. The fees at Washburn University are far more expensive, as one would pay $1,650 for taking six or more credit hours. Another cost that college students will be responsible for is housing. With living on campus, the housing costs at both colleges depends on which dorm one chooses. An advantage of living on campus is that food costs are covered in the housing plan. • 3. Jonathan Haidt s Hard Times In the book Hard Times (1856/1995), by Charles Dickens, the citizens of Coketown are faced with moral situations. The characters have caused emotional harm to others or themselves due to their decisions. Most of the replies to these moral dilemmas are based on how selfish or selfless these characters. They can only choose between the choices that value the other people or value themselves. Two characters that make these decisions are Stephen, a worker at the Hand in Coketown, and Louisa, the daughter of a teacher in the town. Some of their choices may seem questionable to others. But most of them can be explained in Jonathan Haidts book The Righteous Mind. In his book, Haidt explains about the six moral foundations, two of them... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But it turned out that All this time, as if a spell were on him, he was motionless and powerless, except to watch her. Stephen wasn t asleep. Rather than saving her from accidentally poisoning, Stephen decided to do nothing but watch her fall into her death. • 4. Analysis of RemarkeВґs All Quiet on the Western Front A major reiterated theme of Remarque s novel All Quiet on the Western Front focuses on BУ“umer, the narrator, and his comrade s accurate view of World War I and how greatly it contrasts to the ideas of the older generation who persuaded the youth to join the war for defending Germany. An analysis of BУ“umer s attitude toward the war reveals that the world of his former authority no longer exists. His first encounters on the front shatter his trust and belief in the views and teachings of the generation that should have been their mentors, directing this inexperienced Iron Youth (18) into the world and preparing him for what would have been his future life. Now, BУ“umer realizes that, if he survives the war, he can never return to ideas or desires of his youth nor ever truly re enter into the lives that the generations before and after him belong. The older generations, consisting of BУ“umer s parents and teachers, receive the war with a joyous enthusiasm of a chance to display German might and honor, though no one had an idea of what the soldiers, their children, would have to endure. They, especially BУ“umer s teacher Kantorek, took every possibility to persuasively impress this patriotic idea upon the younger generation: that duty to one s country is the greatest thing (13). This generation, the ones who were to equip and direct the younger so that they may survive in this world, was basically sending their sons in blindly and completely unprepared for the true horrors of ... • 5. How Does Liam O Flaherty Use Figurative Language In The... This story follows a sniper and his fight to survive a day in the Irish civil war. The setting takes place in Dublin, Ireland around the battle of the Four Courts, which does take place in history. The sniper, settled on a rooftop, tries to relax, but soon fights for his life against an armored car and more importantly against another sniper. In The Sniper by Liam O Flaherty, symbolism and figurative language exemplify that civil wardivides a whole country, not just any one group of people or soldiers. O Flaherty s use of symbolism allows this story to encompass a whole country in its talk of division while only having four characters. The two analogous snipers contain similarities to each other in their locations, actions, mannerisms, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A historical allusion lies in this text as a reference to the Irish civil war between the Republicans and the Free Staters. The Sniper takes place in Dublin, Ireland, but this means nothing unless it takes place like it does during ...the Irish civil war of the early 1920s (Korb 225). This allusion to the civil war in Ireland acts as a great reference to history while trying to communicate the idea of how civil war divides an entire country as a whole. The reason that this allusion communicates so well lies in the fact that it brings the mind to reality, instead of viewing The Sniper as a made up story. In this story exists a situational irony that comes across as the biggest point of the story, in which a sniper kills his brother. Out of the entire story the biggest point ...emphasizes one of the greatest ironies of civil war: Brother is pitted against brother (Shuman 3). This acts as situational irony because no one expects that the enemy sniper could turn out as the brother of the Republican sniper. This irony shows how war does not only affect the soldiers but their families as well because they have to suffer the death of their children. Finally, the fact that The Sniper takes place in Dublin at the Four Courts represents with imagery what happens there, how civil war destroys the people s history and culture. The fighting of the Irish civil war takes place in the streets of Dublin for a while and ...around the beleaguered Four Courts where the heavy guns roar[] (O Flaherty 1). The way that this shows how the entire country becomes affected, exists in how the Four Courts lay under siege with cannons firing around them. The people s culture and history becomes destroyed by being under siege and thus indirectly does hurt the people of Ireland. Allusion, situational irony, and imagery all assist the message that civil war affects the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Persuasive Essay On How To Discipline A Child As Plato once proclaimed, Do not train a child to learn by force or harshness; but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each depicting that being harsh when disciplining a child is not necessary. There are a variety of strategies to follow when punishing a child such as time out, the removal of a prized possession, grounding the youngster, or spanking which depend on their matureness. Although, every guardian has a different view toward how lenient each action should be, all parents disciplinetheir children in aspiration to retain authority over them and teach them beneficial characteristics. Furthermore, divergent factors influence parents beliefs on which action to perform when instilling a helpful lecture on their offspring. Many parents are controversial on the fact of how to take disciplined actions upon their kids since environmental perspectives alter their views; as a matter of fact, guardians shape the discipline by state regulations for child welfare, the influence of relatives, and family dynamics in hopes of keeping authority over their children. A determining factor by which parents prioritize on to decide how to discipline their child is through established state regulations. The order in which each child was born influences that niche, therefore influencing who that person becomes (Collins). Whether one was born first, middle, or last in reference to siblings can decide mannerisms that a person has, how far he or she goes in life, and how he or she interacts with other people. An oldest is defined as the first born in a family, first born of a certain gender, or a person whose closest sibling in age of the same gender is five or more years older than him or her. • 10. Hollywood And Its Commercial Aesthetic Hollywood cinema is primarily subjected to telling stories. The inclination of Hollywood narratives comes not just from good chronicles but from good story telling. The following essay will discuss Hollywood s commercial aesthetic as applied to storytelling, expand on the characteristics of the principles of classical film narration and evaluate alternative modes of narration and other deviations from the classical mode. a)Hollywood s commercial aesthetic as applied to storytelling: According to Richard Maltby (2003) commercial aesthetic is used to describe Hollywood s aesthetics system, driven as it is by the existence of entertainment as a commercial commodity. From this perspective, Hollywood s most profound significance lies in its ability to turn pleasure into a product we can buy. An understanding of Hollywood s commercial aesthetic requires a consideration of both the formal conventions of Hollywood movies and the external social and cultural pressures that regulate movies as products of a system of mass production and distribution (pp. 580 581). Each Hollywood movie is best implicated as an opportunist congregation of unalike elements as reasoned out by Maltby. In order to best mollify the (perceived) market place at a particular point in time these rudiments are transported together by producers and production companies. Furthermore, Maltby debates that this may result in movies which are dogged by competing (and perhaps contradictory) impulses and it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. The Computer And The Computers Jaciya Wade Professor Kruse Senior Project 16 March 2016 The computer is one of the most used electronics in everyday life. The internet and the computer connects one place to another, Japan to Alaska, Canada to South America and so on. What is never thought of is the programs that go into the websites that are used on a regular basis, Facebook, twitter and Instagram. Without them there would be a complete disconnect between every continent, country, and city. No outside information would cycle in or out and trade of any kind, be it information or the discovery of more resources, would be reduced to a snail s pace. The same could be said for the information that doctors that work in laboratories and architects that build homes use, without the different computer programs and the internet, the services they provide would basically become non existent. Computer programs are very important to prevent loss of life, such as the programs used in hospitals for life support or programs used to determine whether or not there is electricity going through a downed powerline. For example, at Ameren there is a program that is ranked as a class 1 system which means that if field employees didn t have access this program it could lead to loss of life (Boyd). Becoming a computer programmer has many benefits such as compensation, job satisfaction, and telecommuting, but every job has cons some of which are the current job outlook, health hazards and general computer security. Kregar 1 Rebecca Kregar Dr. Emily Intro to Music 23, November 2016 Concert Paper Assignment Lamont Symphony Orchestra performed three beautiful sets of music that was conducted by Ryan Kozak with Hisham Bravo Groover, Assistant Conductors and Lawrence Golan being the Music Director and Conductor at Denver University on Thursday, November 17, 2016 in June Swaner Concert Hall at 7:30pm. Kozak conducted all three of the of the pieces; Danse Macabre Op 40 by Camille Saint SaГ«ns (1835 to 1921), Isle of the Dead, Op. 29 by Sergei Rachmaninoff which is my favorite out of all three pieces (1873 to 1943), and Symphony No. 5, Op. 107 by Felix Mendelssohn (1809 to 1847). Walking into the concert hall I was flabbergasted. The size of the room just amazed me and the stage was fantastic to say the least. Made me more excited for the show to start! As I sat down in my seat I noticed all the types of people in the concert hall were dressed in many different sets of attire. Elderly people were better dressed with their suits and dresses and pant suits where the younger people in the concert hall were still nicely dressed but were a little more casual. After what seemed like forever the lights finally began to go dim and I knew the show was about to start. • 15. Soap Operas Vs Pop Culture When WGN Radio in Chicago first aired Painted Houses in 1930, a uniquely American form of entertainment came into the world (Allen, 1985). In the eighty seven years since its birth, the American daytime soap opera has entertained the masses through a great depression, two World Wars, and 15 Presidents. The programs go by the moniker soap operas because the first producers and sponsor of the programs were soap manufacturers such as Proctor and Gamble (Allen, 1985). Since their introduction, the soap genre has captured the imaginations of millions and frequently influenced other forms of entertainment. Such celebrities include; Demi Moore, Meg Ryan, and Brad Pitt, just to name a few (Barnes, B., Instyle.com). Furthermore, some established A list actors and actresses seek out roles on soaps as fans of the show themselves. One example is the case of Elizabeth Taylor seeking out a role on General Hospital in the 1980 s. Naturally, Gloria Monte, General Hospital head writer at that time, honored Taylor s wish and cast her in the role of Helena Cassadine (Ford, 2010). Qualitative Solubility Test Lab Report Discussion of Results: In week one we performed a qualitative solubility test of our fats and oils, synthesized our soaps and detergents, and performed a solubility test and lathering test for the soaps and detergents. We wanted to test the solubility of our starting materials of the soap making process to understand the properties of the materials. In our initial solubility test of the starting materials, we found that most of the materials were insoluble. The detergent synthesis methods were very similar but method 2 took less steps and was a bit easier than method 1. Table 6.0 shows that detergent 2 had a greater yield, 5.143 grams whereas detergent 1 had a yield of about 4 grams. The lathering test showed that though soaps 3 and 4 produced the most product of the soaps, they did not create many bubbles or a good lather according to Table 7.0. Chapter 5 The availability, accessibility, utilization and stability factors affecting the intake of fruits from trees in forest areas in Cameroon Introduction and problem In sub Saharan Africa, just under one in every four people, or 23.2 percent of the population, is estimated to be undernourished in 2014 16 (FAO et al., 2015). This is the highest prevalence of undernourishment for any region in the World and, with about 220 million hungry people in 2014 16, the second highest burden in absolute terms. This gradualism approach has promoted efficiency through competition away from monopolized state owned enterprises but also into global competition. The increased profitability of this process has created an environment for investors to thrive upon. Aside from India s great success the issue of the continued dominant role of state owned banks is an ongoing issue. India follows our theoretical argument of being inefficient due to government guarantees and consequently must fund recapitalisation in the light of declining market share and profitability. In order to detect the capsaicin that is found in the foods that you eat, your body has receptors on sensory neurons. According to experimental psychology, men love ladies in red. Well, you knew that already, didn t you? What you may not know are the reasons why men find women in red so attractive and sexually desirable. For the longest time, we assumed that pure social conditioning was why red was such a hit. From this point on, Gustav becomes totally shameless. (We have seen this theme of loss of shame as being a kind of death, and actually leading to literal death as well, in Salman Rushdie s Shame.) What connects these different areas is called Conic Sections. Where do they come from? Conic Sections are figures formed by the intersection of a plane and a right circular cone. A conic section may be a circle, an ellipse, a parabola, or a hyperbola. They were first discovered by a Greek mathematician, Menaechmus. He wanted to come up with a model that showed all three different conic sections. With the help of Appollonius, they came up with the Double Napped Cone , which clearly shows all three different shapes. In this project, I m going to study and analyze specifically the ellipse. What is an ellipse? It s the set of points on a plane whose sum of the distance of two fixed points is constant . The main parts on an ellipse are: center, foci and vertices. The focus is the most important and the most used in real life. The foci determine the shape of the ellipse, therefore the vertices, endpoints, major axis and minor axis. The ellipse is found mostly in architecture and astronomy. For example, in London, the St. Paul Cathedral has an elliptical form. Studies have proven that if two people stand at the two foci, and one of them whispers, the other guy can hear it clearly. Execution Poem Analysis In this poem Execution written by Edward Hirsch tells a philosophical reflection expressed with sadness about a sicken high school football coach who is extremely passionate. The overview of this poem is centered around his favorite word execution. Execution is expressed in multiple ways in this poem. Life was about football for the coach, he would pour in his blood sweat and tears to the game. There was no that he received every inch of effort from his player. Countless hours of preparation, practice, and energy was devoted. You would think working this hard would bring upon serious exhaustion, but the coach was like an energizer bunny, he would keep going. Unfortunately this lifestyle caught up with him, the speakersays he developed cancer. I believe that he spent too much time on the game of football. Ultimately this is what lead to his illness, the neglection of his self for the game that he loved. Details from the poem will be used to argue my claim. These details are relevant to how the coach acted and his philosophies. The significance that we get out of my claim is thought provoking. The type of execution he was preaching to the team went into full effect in the form of cancer towards him. Let me start off by saying that the coach had great intentions for the way he coached. Hardnosed, no nonsense guy, who taught discipline. Learning the art of discipline helps you on the field, but the results are even more notable off the field in everyday life. You cannot go wrong with being a disciplined individual. Real big on fundamentals, a perfectionist at teaching them. The newly formed Early Christian religion, the Roman culture, and the Greek culture are no exception to this occurrence. Though living close in proximity to each other, their views differed vastly, in respect to both religionand culture. Roman and Greek views indulged the here and now , while those views of the Early Christians centered on the hereafter . It is upon the examination of a few artworks taken from either side, that this contrast becomes extremely apparent. Though there was an idea of an afterlife in Roman and Greek mythology, it was generally not taken seriously by the people. Thus the All that is good in this worldly life, is the only good to seek mentality prevailed. In their numerous artworks we see this mentality in the display of scenes of indulgence, of worldly matters, and finery. In fact, the purpose of the artwork itself is that it is meant to be a beautifying piece, to grace the homes and villas, and add to the beauty of this world.
