Drug Abuse And Drug Addiction
Drugs had been existing since the early 15th century and society has confronted drug abuse and
addiction ever since. In the modern world, drug abuse has become a problem for many
individuals do to traumatic experiences, mental disorders, peer pressure and personal problems.
For every addiction there is always a solution, professional assistance can help a drug addict get
control of his/her life once again. Drug rehabilitation programs can be essential for drug addicts
only if the victims are committed to ending the psychological and physical dependencethat drugs
bring throughout time of usage.
Drug abuse is a worldwide issue that could affect any individual without out the importance of
economic social status and ethnicity. Specifically, in the United States of America about 21 million
individuals abuse drugs every year, according to the 2012 National Survey Drug Use. The most
common drugs that are being abused throughout the years have been prescription drugs such as
opioid, stimulants, painkillers and depressants. Drug addiction could have many causes such as a
family addiction history, rough childhood experiences and mental health issues. Addiction could be

effects could be presented; leading to strain relationships for the addict and the significant other.

Sturge-Weber Syndrome Research Paper
Sturge Weber Syndrome Kris Avila 08/30/2015 NURSPT 030L Mrs. B Abstract According to
the Sturge Weber Foundations, Sturge Weber Syndrome can be diagnosed once the baby is born.
With the most obvious characteristics, the baby will have a dark purple birthmark that covers
close to half of his/her face. Another symptom from Sturge Weber Syndrome is that it can cause
neurological deformity. Both of these symptoms are caused by the abnormal blood vessels near
the eye and on the surface of the brain. Studies have shown that this syndrome is not passed from
family history, but the only remedy we can do is to suppress it (Sturge Weber.org). One of the
most amazing miracles in life is when a child is born. Upon birth,... Show more content on

The only way to cope with the disease is to control it and improving the person s lifestyle.
(Moore, 2012). Pinpointing what kind of symptoms and category of Sturge Weber Syndrome the
person has, an MD can figure out what types of remedies are available. There are many different
types of pharmacologic treatments for seizures. Most of the seizures from the disease are located
only on one side of the brain s hemisphere. Some of the medications include Carbamazepine,
Phenytoin, Oxcarbazepine, Lamotrigine, Levetiracetam, Valproic Acid, Zonisamide, Topiramate,
Lorazepam, Phenobarbital, Gabapentin, Pregabalin, Tiagabine, Diazepam, Felbamate,
Lacosamide, and Clonazepam. With the seizures being controlled with medications, it helped
prevent future seizures from 10% to 50%. Besides medications, there are also surgical treatments
available as well. Early surgery for patients with Sturge Weber Syndrome is to improve and
prevent developmental delay, refractory seizures, and hemiparesis. Lobectomy and craniotomy
were recommended once being diagnosed with the disease because doctors have found that early
onsets of seizures can lead towards mental retardatation. A procedure called hemispherectomy is
also recommended to be given when a unilateral epileptogenic region exist. This procedure is also
done while the patient is still young. It is preferable because the epileptogenic region is smaller.

International Law For Sustainable Development
International Law for sustainable development
International law for Sustainable development can be defined as:
The International legal principles which is based upon the international environmental law,
international trade law and international human right law which focus on the development of
society in present without compromising it for future.
It was realised that the legal aspect cannot be isolated from the sustainable development. There were
various landmarks which lead to the impetus of the International law for sustainable development.
The evolution has been summarized below:
Evolution:
Stockholm commission (1972):
Submit organised in Stockholm to address the environmental issue caused by the industrialisation.
It gave international platform to the concept of sustainable development. Leading to the foundation
of sustainable development as International policy and legal concept.
It emphasised on safeguarding the natural resources and protecting the environment for future.
Lead to establishment of UNEP (United Nation Environment Plan) which checked the
environmental and sea hazards caused by industrialisation.
The commission winded up with declaration containing 26 principles and 109 recommendations.
Primarily focussing on the development of human and the environment.

Diagnostic And Statistical Manual Of Mental Disorders
Diagnostic Autism Spectrum Disorders in Infants and Children
Autism Spectrum Disorder is a neurodevelopment disorder that affects people as young as
infancy that can become more evident throughout their childhood. The word Spectrum refers to a
wide range of disorders that are closely related through similar symptoms, as it will be explained
later in this paper. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders also known as the
DSM 5 diagnostic manual, updated the types of disorders listed as: Autistic Disorder, Rett s

While infants are still discovering most of their sensors, touch is important because higher levels of
touch between parent and infant (e.g., skin to skin contact, affectionate touch, tactile game play)
have been linked to secure attachment relationships, more positive social responses in infants, and
positive, reciprocal parent infant interactions.. (577). Interactions between parent and infants
through touch are important to visualize whether the infant is responding to reflexes, or involuntary
movements. For example, when a child is touched on the cheek, most likely the baby will respond
by turning their heads toward the direction of the hand. Abnormal touch and unresponsive reflexes
can link to autism symptoms in children such as unresponsive to sensory stimuli. Tactile games
such as holding a toy above them can monitor whether the baby is responding back or distracted
and is unable to focus. Autism Speaks, describes research done on their article, Eye Contact
Declines Early in Babies Who Later Develop Autism by explaining that babies are placed in front
of a monitor that shows their mother speaking to them and showing their fingers and other
movements to get the babies full attention. On the other side researchers are visualizing and
monitoring the baby s eyes and direction. Researchers state that, Such an early decline in eye

Ringworm Disease
Pets can make fantastic companions and fun playmates. Most pet owners are aware of the more
disgusting parts of owning a furry loved one, such as cleaning out the litter box, scrubbing up the
occasional accident and enduring slobbery kisses. Unfortunately, these may not be the grossest
things that your petcan make you deal with. Pets can spread dangerous diseases that can
sometimes be deadly if left untreated. Be aware of these diseases the next time you are playing
with your pet to keep you and your family safe.
1. Ringworm
A highly contagious fungal infection, ringworm is commonly found in cats and dogs. Animals with
the infection normally have patches of missing hair on their fur with red spots on their bare skin. In
humans, a circular patch forms on the skin. It can be prevented by washing sheets twice a month in
hot water and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tapeworms
Children are most susceptible to getting tapeworm from their four legged friends because they are
the least likely to wash their hands. Tapeworms are spread through flea, so keeping your pet flea
free is the best prevention. In humans, tapeworms can cause weight loss, as the parasites attach
themselves to the intestines and digest the food that is eaten, diarrhea, stomach pain and vomiting.
9. Rabies
A rare, but extremely fatal, disease, rabies can be prevented by avoiding wild animals and getting
your pet vaccinated. Symptoms in pets include foaming of the mouth, staggering and behavioral
changes. Humans who have been bitten by a rabid animal may experience itching by the bite,
anxiety, confusion and hallucinations. If your pet has symptoms, call animal control and stay away
from them, because the disease is transmitted through saliva.
10. Hookworms
These parasites attach to your dogs intestines and can kill them if they drink enough of their blood.
The parasites are contracted through eggs in the dogs feces, so cleaning them up promptly will
prevent them from hatching and attaching themselves to your dog or to

Cosmopolitanism In Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart
Taken away as a child, confused, lost and traumatized. What are you supposed to think when you
are in the midst of being taken away of everything you are known too? Of course, this is unjustified
and the government has to prevent the kidnapping of a child. However, in a country that is not
cosmopolitan enough is not able to prevent this. Cosmopolitan is the sophisticated or experienced
country that is matured. Yet, in the book Things fall apartis an acclaimed African Tribe that respect
culture and traditions. In the novel Things fall apart, Ikemefuna is taken away from his family due
to a murder he had nothing to do with. Ikemefuna faced the charges of a guilty man while being
innocent and everyone knew that. If Ikemefuna faced more cosmopolitan principles, Ikemefuna
fate would have been different. When one applies Kwame Anthony Appiah s idea that a person s
beliefs are only rational relative to the beliefs he already possesses it in Cosmopolitanismto
Ikemefuna in Chinua Achebes Things Fall Apart, the character fate is justified in their beliefs but
not in the cosmopolitan view.
In the beginning of the book Ikemefuna is dragged away from his native home to a new tribe.
As stated in the text, to carry a message of war to their enemies unless they agreed to give up a
young man and a virgin to atone for the murder of Udo s wife (Things fall apart 27) It is not
justified to give up a young man that had nothing to do with the murder. If the tribe has a more

Shirley Temple s Dimpled Face
Pecola is constantly labeled as inferior due to her ugliness and copes with her sorrow by
conforming to society s label.
Throughout the novel, Pecola s fascination with white girls is heavily expressed. It is first shown
very early on when Pecola admires the Shirley Temple cup. Claudia narrates, She was a long
time with the milk, and gazed fondly at the silhouette of Shirley Temple s dimpled face (19).
Much later in the book Pecola shows her fascination with Mary Jane. She takes great joy in buying
and eating the Mary Jane candies, for, to eat the candy is somehow to eat the eyes, eat Mary Jane.

While most think of dandelions as nothing but a pesky weed, Pecola admires and sympathizes
with them. She does not understand why people dislike them, as demonstrated on page 47: Why,
she wonders, do people call them weeds? She thought they were pretty, . This is a powerful
statement that reflects the discrepancies between society s labels. Just like the dandelions, Pecola
is a devalued weed because society said so. Even though Pecola feels admiration towards the plant,
the pressure to conform eventually overwhelms her and she attempts to convince herself otherwise
by thinking, They are ugly. They are weeds, (50). She rationalizes that if she is told dandelions are
ugly then they must be ugly, just as she rationalizes that because she is black she is

Capstone Simulation Experience Paper
During the capstone simulation experience, I believe I performed well in quickly reporting the
perforated bowel to the provider. This is an urgent issue that needs to be addressed quickly to
prevent many serious complications such as: peritonitis, sepsis, hypovolemia, and low H H due to
excessive bleeding. The routine procedure of a colonoscopyis not without risks and this simulation
experience was a great example of how an adverse event can go undetected until after discharge or
when the physical symptoms appear and start ailing the patient.

Examples Of Digging By Seamus Heaney
Death of a Naturalist was concerned with the notion of growing up and loss of innocence.
Seamus Heaney describes the childhood experience differently as the child grows and changes
perception of nature from love to fear. Similarly, in Digging , Heaney presents himself as a child
who studies through writing, in contrast to his father and his grandfather who dig into the ground.
Heaney s father and grandfather use their shovels to work with the land, while Heaney uses his
pen to write poetries. It is clear that Heaney is not going to follow his father s legacy, digging , he
is going to have a different profession.

it sounds like Heaney is trying to impress his father and grandfather s digging skills. Also, By
God , this implies Heaney s amazement and it grabs readers attention and shows how much
admiration Heaney has for his father and grandfather s digging skill. This makes the reader feel
empathetic because just working does not simply mean it is important, but tradition too to work as
part of the family tradition and carry father s

Love and Lust in Play By Play, Sex without Love, and Junior Year Abroad
Lust is an incredibly strong feeling that can prove to be almost uncontrollable, leading it to
commonly be mistaken for love. Due to the relative closeness of these emotions, both are often
confused, and even when one is in love he or she does not recognize it. Many think that love just
comes knocking on one s door and one will know when it does, but they don t realize that for love
to occur a relationship has must be worked out. Love is described by some as fireworks, tingles,
and butterflies in the stomach; but it is lust that can cause these things to happen, and it is these that
mark only the beginning of a relationship. After a while, these ... Show more content on

At first, one might see the work as condemning people who have sex without being in love; but
after further review, one can see how Olds really portrays these people. She describes them as
being ...Beautiful as dancers,/ gliding over each other like ice skaters (Olds 838); also they are
considered very religious, and in tune with their bodies much like great runners are. The
characters in the poem are depicted as athletes, agile and ready to compete, much like how the
narrator, who talks so highly of them, wants to be. However, once again, only the emotion of lust is
present in this piece, and there is no confusion between love and lust.
So many people fall victim to lust, believing that it is something more than what it is. In the poem
Junior Year Abroad, the lead character reveals lust for a man in her homeland, an emotion that
quickly fades away after meeting someone during her stay in Paris. The poem begins with an
introduction to her situation and reveals that he will come to Paris at Christmas to be with her.
The shelf life of my promise expired (Rebecca 839), is how she refers to her lover s upcoming
visit, explaining how quickly her lust for him has gone away. This poem gives specific examples of
how lust can be there one minute, then fade the

The Taliban And Al Qaeda
The events of 9/11 have brought the topic of Islamic Terrorism to the forefront of western media
and diplomatic conversation. It has marked and highlighted the rise in the number of the
organizations who use terrorism as a tool to achieve religious or political goals. The actions and
strategies of these groups have intensified and become increasingly global. It has become somewhat
common practice to generalize these groups, their objectives and their strategies. The Talibanand Al
Qaeda are some the two most outspoken groups and many assume their characteristics to be similar.

Afghan refugees in Pakistan were offered a free education alongside Pakistanis to these schools.
These schools were used to further the organization s desired objectives.
Although the Taliban s territory is distinctly Afghanistan, their Pakistani foundation resonates
throughout much of their history and structure as an international support and through their ties
with the Al Qaeda. Their Afghan origins and influence began in 1994 in Southern Afghanistan
following the Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan as a counter to the pro communist government.
From their onset in Southern Afghanistan, the Taliban acquired a great deal of power and influence.
Through armed force and following the ousting of the pro communist President Mohammad
Najibullah by the Mujahedeen forces, the Taliban successfully took Kabul in 1996. Their political
success manifested in them forming a government from September 1996 to December 2001. They
maintained this control and power, despite international condemnation on human rights grounds. In
fact, by 1998 they controlled around 90% of Afghanistan (Yung, 2007). However, their influence
was not enough to capture the north western part of Afghanistan, which remained in the hands of
the Northern Alliance. The Taliban enjoyed a great rise of power in the early stages of the
organization and throughout this decade of control their structures and objectives evolved with
some success. Around the early 2000s and the attacks of September

Age Discrimination in Madigan v. Levin Essay
Basics:
The Supreme Court case to be closely followed and reviewed for class this semester is Madigan

Madigan is the petitioner, with Harvey N. Levin being the respondent. On Monday, March 18,

This case seemed to be simply put, but it was as if the counsel for the petitioner Michael A. Scodro
could not comprehend this completely.
In this case, a group of law professors filed an amicus brief, with the argument that jurisdiction was
lacking by the Seventh Circuit to decide on the issue at hand. The oral argument began with
Scodro, and it seemed as if the entire time the counsel was talking the Justices were bored and
somewhat annoyed with even having to hear this argument. There were many instances where
Scodro was cut off and it was apparent that the Court was fairly over this case before the argument
was even heard.
Scodro began the petitioners argument by saying, Congress has crafted a comprehensive body of
administrative and judicial procedures and remedies that are tailored specifically to combatting
discrimination against older workers. (OYEZ, Inc., 2013), to which Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg
produced the question, What authority did the Seventh Circuit have to deal with the question under
the Age Discrimination Act? (OYEZ, Inc., 2013). It was later decided that the Seventh Circuit did
not have any authority with the question brought forth. Scodro began to cite cases, but was soon
shot down by the Court.

case seem

Eros is the name of a Greek god of love.Eros as far as god s go has been through MANY MANY

powerful then Zeus in part cause he can jerk the guy around like a puppet.See every myth where
Zeus couldn t keep it in his pants, also known as every myth. There s the aspect of Eros that s the
Child of Aphrodite representing love as a consequential beauty and then there s...cupid...We don t
like to talk about him.Now typical there s first two representations exist that represents
concurrently in the same character,Eros will simultaneously be Aphrodite s son and a powerful
and ancient force that even the God s fear.I say typically but really there s only one data plate to

Pinto Case Study

1. Put yourself in the role of the recall coordinator for Ford Motor CO. It s 1973, and field reports
have been coming in about rear end collisions, fires, and fatalities. You must decide whether to
recall the automobile.
A. Identify the relevant facts.
In August of 1978 three teenage girls were driving a Ford Pinto and were struck from behind. The
three girls died because the Ford Pinto s fuel tank ruptured from the collision and burst into
flames. There was a big debate about the safety of the Ford Pinto to its proneness to its fuel tank
catching on fire in low speed rear end ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ford convinced NHTSA that cost/benefit analysis would be appropriate for determining not to
change the fuel tank. The costs were eleven dollars per fuel tank to change which ended up
equaling 137.5 million dollars. This number is very large and much bigger than the benefit if they
would have not changed it, which was 49.5 million dollars.
B. Identify the pertinent ethical issues and points of ethical conflict.
All of the relevant facts discussed above lead to many ethical issues. Ford was aware of the
problem with the gas tank leaking and could have changed it before others died from their
mistakes. Putting a price value on a life to beat the Japanese in the small car market is unethical.
Safety should be a company s number one priority, not beating the completion. There was a legal
issue of NHTSA and Ford. Ford was aware that the fuel tanks were not working correctly but did
nothing to change it because the NHTSA, at the time, had no laws against it.
C. Identify the relevant affected parties.
a. Customers (Ford s victims)
b. Drivers of Pinto
c. Ford Employees
d. Manufactures of Ford
e. Suppliers of Ford
f. Dealers of Ford
g. Stockholders
h. NHTSA
The customers (drivers of Ford) are the number one stakeholders that lost the most. They might not
have lost much money or reputations, but they lost the one thing that you can never get back, their
life.

Difficulties Of Guiris
The Difficulties of Being a Guiri in Spain
I am leaving Spain with a multitude of new memories, experiences, perspectives and friendships. I
want to call attention to the things that made my trip so wonderful and memorable, but I also
want to mention some things that I regret. Being a personal reflection, it would be wrong of me
to only focus on the positives of this experience, when there were also a few negatives and bumps
in the road that affected my time here. I learned so much about myself, the people of Seville and
Barcelona, and the culture of Spain in the last five weeks that I will have stories to tell for the rest
of my life. Join me for a tale of siestas, food I can neither describe nor pronounce, drama,
observations from an American perspective, and all the rest that comes along with traveling with a

Summary Of Accuracy In Island Of The Blue Dolphinss
Accuracy in Island of the Blue Dolphins Accuracy varies depending on the purpose by which an
author writes a story. Some authors may choose to base their story purely on facts, some may
stick to being entirely fictional, and the rest pick and choose facts and fiction. Island of the Blue
Dolphins entails the journey of a young native girl, Karana, who becomes stranded on her home
island until her eventual rescue. This story in particular is based on that of a Nicoleno woman, the
Lone Woman. However, facts were left out regarding what happened in real life. In Island of the
Blue Dolphins, the author, O Dell, inaccurately depicts the Lone Woman s situational, historical,
and archaeological relevance. O Dell undermines the Lone Woman s relevance in terms of the
situations Karana, the main character, faces throughout Island of the Blue Dolphins. Karana
watches her father die , which is an aspect O Dell created to develop his story and is not
historically evident. O Dell s personal views of what a mother should be affected the accuracy
of his story because he felt that a mother should not forget her child . This explains why his book
shows how Karana returned to the island for her brother instead of being like the Lone Woman
who returned for her child. O Dell even makes up the concept of public and secret names , which
furthers his inaccuracy because this shows that he added the names as an element to build on the
symbolism. Even more so, Captain Baranov s offer of trade goods

a perfect, pure garden until the evil, green serpent successfully tempts them. When the serpent tells
Eve that consuming fruit from the forbidden tree the one God warned them not to eat from will
result in the same knowledge God holds, Eve convinces Adam to eat the apple. According to...

depicts a worldly paradise with knights who act as they desire, as Adam and Eve were allowed to in
Genesis. However, Gawain s garden in not without sin.
The existence of sin is evident in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. The sin in Gawain s garden
results from chivalry. The code of knighthood Gawain and other knights follow includes courage
and loyalty to one s lord. This courage and loyalty carries with it a sense of pride for the knights,
pride that causes them to sin. Thus, Gawain fails to follow a life of purity, for as he follows the code
of knighthood, he participates in Christian sin murder, drunkenness, pride. For instance, when
the Green Knight gives an offer to Arthur s court to play the beheading game, he initially
receives no volunteers. However, as Arthur attempts to participate, Gawain steps up and takes
his place, for it is his role to be loyal and fight for his lord. This is evident when he states, My
body, but for your [Arthur] blood, is barren of worth; / And for that this folly befits not a king,
/ And tis that I have asked it, it ought to be mine ( 357 359). This, then, leads him to sin, to chop
off another man s head.
Sin is evident even before the Green Knight s entrance the knights succumb to physical pleasures

An Analysis Of Jeremy Bentham, White And Haine
An initial design of Jeremy Bentham, White and Haine noted how the panopticon for Foucault was
a metaphor for the architectural figure of the disciplinary composition identified in the plague.15 In
summary, the panopticon is a circular architectural structure where the cells are arranged around a
central viewing tower in a manner that ensures permanent visibility.16 Resisting any reliance on
physical instruments of control (other than the architectural structure and geometrics of the
building), the panopticoninstalls a repressive system based on a principle of permanent surveillance
which ensures the functioning of power .17 Semple reinforced this point, noting that Foucault
elevated the panopticon because it was the instrument of transformation; it becoming the emblem of
modern disciplinary power.18 It automised and disindividualised power, with a real subjection born
mechanically from a fictitious relation.19 For Foucault, the panopticon was also a mechanism that
created an environment that could be used to experiment, alter behaviour and to train/correct
individuals. An observer in the panopticon allowed one to carry out experiments on its subjects,
study behaviour and analyse actions. The plague stricken town undoubtedly conveyed an
exceptional disciplinary model: violently perfect, the effective exercise of the right of the sword.20
It was an image of discipline blockade , the enclosed institution established on the fringe of
society.21 The panopticon however, was

Babysitting Essay
An anonymous speaker once said, Children are great imitators. So give them something great to
imitate. Although many people have never done it, babysitting can be considered a difficult task
for many. Individuals who feel babysitting is effortless rarely consider that the babysitter must
often take on multiple roles at one time. Babysitters must: watch the children without ever
becoming frustrated, get to know the those being watched because not every kid is the same, or
they may even become the driver or the cook for the night. Babysitting is different for every child
and babysitter, and different families have different rules. One of the first things someone should do

Not to mention, if the sitter must make supper, this gives the sitter new ideas of what to fix or
order for the night. After this, depending on the night, the babysitter should see if the children
have any homework and see if they need help with it. The sitter should make sure the kids know
they can go to them if they need help. This is an important step to make sure the young ones
know they can go to their guardian if they have an issue. This will also help create a bond
between the babysitter and young ones. This will show the parents how responsible someone
can be a positive influence. Also, it is important to note that the sitter should make sure to not
get frustrated with the children and always give warnings before any disciplinary action is
made. The fourth step of babysitting is asking the young ones what they would like to do for the
night. It is important to the children know that they have options for the night and it will not be
boring for them. Some kids do not have someone to hang out with or be around unless it is at
school, so it is important to make the night special for them and be genuinely interested in the
things they do. Making the kids happy and their night enjoyable is one of the most important
things when watching kids because a child s smile, and laughter can be one of the best sounds a
person can hear. Even if they ask to be alone, the sitter should always make sure they are nearby

Dasaratha had four wives and Ravana had a lot and they were all suppose to be loyal to their
husband and satisfy their needs. Also in the story all the rulers, kings, or leaders were all men
even the monkey kingdom and there wasn t one woman who ruled. An example of this in the
story is the leader of the monkey kingdom Sugreeva is a male and the king of Ayodhya,
Dasaratha is also a male. Men also had role to fight and battle while woman weren t aloud to and
were expected to keep doing their stuff they usually do and be a loyal wife. For example all of the
battles that were taken place in the story there were no women in the battle field. Men were
dominant in the ramayana and woman had no power but in today s time it is much different from
that.
In today s society men are expected to have only wife and not multiple and it is also the same for
a woman and if that is broken then it is considered cheating which is a unacceptable thing. That
was not the case in the Ramayana. In our current time men and women rule. An example of this
is the ruler of England Queen Elizabeth II is the current leader of England and is a female. Also
America had a women run for president and even though she didn t win there is out to be a time
soon that a female will become the next president for the United States. This would of never been

This is because not all the tacit knowledge can be transferred, so it is better to transfer it in wiki or

work of an individual with other team members, so they can benefit too. This will save time and

dispersed can also have access saving huge travel costs and potential language barriers. Thus this
method turns tacit knowledge into explicit knowledge. The benefits are it achieves scale in
knowledge reuse but the cost are that fails to tap into tacit knowledge
Secondly, practice approach does not focus on strict methods or formal procedures, rather they
believe in using mutual interactions because not all tacit knowledge can be precisely stored using
technology. Additionally, by sharing tacit knowledge with team members, they will learn the same
tactics and knowledge and apply when similar problems arise. This will be a quicker way to share

Loneliness in the Lady of Shalott and Mariana.
The themes of loneliness, exile and escape from reality are important aspects that characterize the
works of Alfred Lord Tennyson. During the 1800s, these aspects differentiated him from other
Victorian poets, distinguishing him as one of the most popular poets of the Victorian era. In
Tennyson s poems Mariana, and The Lady of Shalott, the artists express loneliness in their isolation
from the rest of the world. The following essay will compare and contrast the displays of temporary
and permanent loneliness of these artists through Tennyson s use of imagery, repetition, and word
painting. Tennyson s extensive repetition in The Lady of Shalott and Mariana is an important

Tennyson s repetition of dreary in association with various aspects of the poem, such as her life,
the night, and the day, all build up to Mariana s claim, I am very dreary (81). This makes obvious
to the reader the extent of Mariana s loneliness В– so has no mended her state of mind. As in The
Lady of Shalott, the fluctuations of the general repetitions play an important role in demonstrating
the major theme of loneliness in the poems. In this sense, repetition in poetry is a form of torture. In
Mariana s case, her repetition of dreary and aweary is perhaps Tennyson s way of brainwashing
the reader into relating to the loneliness of the artist. Similarly, in the Lady s case, the repetition
of Shalott and Camelot show distinct barriers between the artist s world and the real world, in
order to infect the reader s mind with feelings of loneliness from isolation. That said, repetition
in these two poems acts as a self fulfilling prophecy which causes the reader to believe anything
that is extensively repeated. In both The Lady of Shalott and Mariana, Tennyson also uses
deliberate stanza structure in order to stress his key themes. Although the meter of the two poems
differ from one another, Tennyson s purpose for doing so is very similar in both works. The Lady
of Shalott is based on lines one to four and lines seven to nine of each ten line stanza being written
in iambic tetrameter, and lines five and ten, most often occurring as iambic

Although heavy and brittle, hardened clay and glass were used for storage. Some natural
substances were sticky and moldable. Rubber wasn t very useful for storage because it eventually
lost its ability to leap back into shape and became sticky when heated. The way plastics are
manufactured has evolved from the use of natural plastic materials to the use of chemically
modified, natural materials and finally to completely synthetic molecules. Early plastics were bio
derived materials, which are organic polymers. In 1600 BC, Mesoamericans used natural rubber
for balls, bands, and figurines. In 1839, Charles Goodyear discovered a process in which sulfur
reacted with crude rubber when heated and then cooled. The rubber became resilient upon cooling,
it could stretch, but it snapped back to its original shape. It also retained its flexibility when heated.
We now know that the sulfur forms chemical bonds between adjacent rubber polymerstrands. The
bonds cross link the polymer strands, allowing them to go back to normal when stretched.
Goodyear had discovered the process now known as vulcanization, which made rubber more

What Are The Difference Between Yin And Yang And Taoism
Chinese culture is largely surrounded by the idea of balance. We see this in Yin and Yang, and a
balance between light and dark, or tall and short. While the Americanized version of this concept
is the difference between the two, the original concept looks at how yin and yang balance each
other and work together. This idea of balance is integrated in the idea of the five seasons and the
elements that represent those seasons. The five elements are also related to Taoism in many ways.
Yin and Yangis also part of the Chinese world creation myth. They believed that there was Wu
Chi and then there was Tai Chi, or nothing and then something. That something was Yin and
Yang, or in balance. For example When people find one thing beautiful another consequently
becomes ugly. (Tzu, Pg.2) While this is explaining Taoism, it also incompases the idea of Yin
and Yang and how they complement each other creating balance. From this something the World
was born and Taoism came into being. Taoism is the idea of man when he was connected to the
earth and all it s creatures. This was known as The age of perfect Virtue. ((Hoff, Pg.20). This idea
was was originally introduced by Chuang Tse who was a Chinese philosopher in around the 4th
century B.C.E. He said In the Age of Perfect Virtue, men lived among the animals and birds as
members of one large family. There were no distinctions between superior and Inferior to separate
one man or species from another. All retained their natural virtue and lived in the state of pure
simplicity... We were once able to communicate with the creatures of the earth, but then man
became greedy and was cast out by the creatures losing its connections with the beings. We became
independent and killed animals for food. Some still remember our connection to nature and teach it
to those around them. From this came practices such as maintaining that balance through the five
seasons. The five seasons are spring, summer, late summer, autumn, and winter correspond with the
five elements and each has its own things that are unique to it. The idea of the five elements
originally came from the idea of yin and yang. The idea of how natural elements interact to create a
balance. Ancient Chinese medical

Significance Of The Magna Carta
The Magna Carta was a very influential document that helped to established for the first time the
principle that everybody, including the King, was subject to the law. The rule of law is a concept
fundamental to democratic forms of government and asserts that all, including leaders, must abide
by the laws of the nation. While the Magna Cartadoes not specifically state that the King is subject
to the rule of law, the document establishes that principle by imposing limits on the King s power.
In 1215, the Magna Carta was a peace treaty between King John and the Barons. First drafted by
the Archbishop of Canterbury to make peace between the unpopular King and rebel Barons, it
promised the protection of church rights, protection for the Barons from illegal imprisonment,
access to swift justice, and limitations on feudal payments to the Crown, which was set to be
implemented through a council of 25 Barons. Neither side stood behind their commitments, and
the charter was annulled by Pope Innocent III, leading to the First Barons War. In retrospect it was
a failure, but it provided a new framework for the relationship between the King and his subjects.
After King John s death, his son Henry III, reissued the document in 1216, stripping some of its
more radical content, in an unsuccessful bid to build political support for the new government. At
the end of the war in 1217, it formed part of the peace treaty agreed at Lambeth, where the
document acquired the name Magna

because of the manual processes in place for financial reporting. A major reason for the issues
concerning the current F and A system is that each of the facilities has a different F and A

Mammogram Screening
Medical screening and testing continues to grow and advance every day. These various advances
allow us to detect harmful effects on the body such as cancer, much sooner because it allows us to
regularly check patients as a precaution. Some screenings are not mandatory; however, having the
screening done is very beneficial in detecting early stages of cancer. One of the most common
screening among women is mammograms. Breast canceris the second leading cause of cancer
deaths in U.S. women. Early detection is associated with increased survival and annual routine
mammogram screening has until recently been recommended to all women aged 40 74 years of

Recently the age at which women should start getting mammograms has increased having a
negative effect. Research shows that approximately 17% of breast cancer deaths could have
been prevented if women aged 39 49 years of age had regular mammography screenings.6 The
absolute number of breast cancer deaths in U.S. women aged 40 49 was 4,327 in 2005. A 17%
reduction therefore translates to approximately 735 fewer deaths if all women in this age group
had undergone regular mammography screenings. Currently, the use of mammography screening
in the United States is 22% among women 40 years and 36% among women aged 40 47.1
Although mammograms are not one of the easiest or pleasant screenings to have done, it is very
beneficial to women in order to catch the early stages of breast cancer and act quickly to prevent the

Friar in Canterbury Tales Essay
Friar in Canterbury Tales Chaucer s attitude towards the friar is one of sarcasm. The friar is
wanton and merry, but this pleasant sounding description is actually packed with mockery. By
the 14th century, friars, who were supposed to give up all worldly things and live only by
begging for food and alms, were almost totally corrupt. They were known for flattering the rich
and deceiving the poor, and especially for seducing women in outright disregard for their vow of
celibacy. Chaucer s Friar, Hubert, is a limiter, one who is licensed to beg in a certain area. He s
married off women giving each of his young women what he could afford her which implies that he
seduced them first. He s highly believed and intimate with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He knows all the bars and is more familiar with barmaids and innkeepers than the lepers or
beggars he s supposed to be soliciting for. Ideally, after buying necessities, friars were supposed to
donate to the poor and sick any leftover money from begging. To make it more ironic, Chaucer says
it s not right for someone of Hubert s profession to be acquainted with lepers, since after all there s
no money there but when it comes to the rich and the food sellers, suddenly he s courteous and
humble. He couldn t care less about giving money to charity.
His holy how d ye do is so pleasant that he can always get a farthing from her . Here it is clear
that the Friar gets more money from his illegal takings than his legal calling. He wears clothes
better suited to a pope than to the cloistered scholars with thread bare habit hardly worth a dollar,
but much more like a Doctor or a Pope . He also meddles in civil disputes out of court, to arbitrate
disputes on settling days (for a small fee) . Friars were allowed to represent the poor, but had strict
orders not to interfere in such cases. Hubert even lisps to make his English sound more appealing,
presumably to women, he lisped a little

What Are The Expectations That Shaped Women s Lives In...
1.What does the film show us about expectations that shaped women s lives in sixteenth century
Venice?
Women were expected to be obedient to their families and husbands once they were married.
Desires, wants, and dreams were beyond her control and instead she was expected to remain faithful
to the church, state, and family. This is shown when Marco attempts to get to know his wife better
only to learn that she isn t interested in anything besides making him happy. Women were
expected to have manners and to be well behaved but did not possess the knowledge to carry on a
conversation in the way the courtesans could. Courtesans in comparison, were able to gain the
intellectual knowledge from books and other sources of information to be an active ... Show more

With this education, she used her gift for poetry to entrance and impress her male court companions
which granted her respect that normal women were unable to gain. Conversation and intellect
became as important in entertaining her male companions as her sexual conduct. The upper class
men of Venice found it amusing to see a womanwith the many talents that Veronica had like
poetry and the ability to sword fight. Her status as courtesan allowed her to enter literary and
political circles unavailable to even the most connected and powerful ladies. By making
connections with the elites in Venice, Veronica was able to attend exclusive events which afforded
her the opportunity to express her poetry through public speech and by battling poetic
contemporaries. This is important because she could further her own influence while showcasing
her ability to compete with men in literary and political circles. These skills afforded Veronica the
opportunity to entertain the infamously homosexual, King Henri III of France in his private
quarters. This is important because the influence and reputation that Veronica Franco earned from
the elites of Venice granted her protection when she needed it. Her elevated status allowed her to
publish two different collections of poems, a rare feat in a society where few women could read or

Lean On Me By Norman Twain
Lean On Me (Norman Twain Productions, 1989)
The movie Lean on Me was published in 1989. The movie depicts a time period when drug use
/ abuse, and violence was very prevalent at Eastside High the inner city high schools in Paterson
New Jersey. Eastside HS having these challenges created a societal view of low expectations for the
students that attended the school. The students that attended the high school were predominately
African American and Latinos, and because of their race they were considered minority groups
with low social economic status and/ or expectations. Throughout the movie the diversity of race,
and social economic statuses were factors mentioned. Another important factor that the movie only
touched on slightly was the challenges with crack cocaine. The 80 s was an era when crack cocaine
was introduced to the inner city communities, causing much destruction to the foundation of
families that had members that indulged in its use. This caused the lack of parent engagement and
support systems for youths. Many of the youths in the movie was raising themselves, which
included finding the means to support their and/ or their family s basic everyday needs such as:
food, clothing, and shelter. That alone opened the door to negative influences like drugdealing, drug
use, drug abuse, and violence. Many of the students at Eastside HS were more focus on everyday
survival, then the importance of having an education and the growth that it would bring them. The

Social Media And Social Isolationism
There is a reason that AA meetings and other addiction recovery programs are face to face and
not virtual. This is because human beings are innately social and therefore, can perform actions
for the betterment of themselves and others. Without this face to face contact that social media
encourages, people, like Timothy, find themselves being swallowed up by the effects social
isolationism has on one s physical and physiological well being, however as we will see later on,
social media can be extremely beneficial in helping those with social isolationism. The dangers
The effects of social isolationism can be devastating both physically and psychologically. In the
physical aspect, people who suffer from social isolationism find themselves feeling like they
have less energy, and vitality in life. They simply don t feel up to the tasks at hand and are tired
all the time. Social isolationism can also affect how many times we get sick and how our bodies
heal. For example, those who suffer from this find that when they are injured or sick, that their
bodies take considerably longer to recover and to feel normal as well as they find themselves
getting sick or injured more often than others. Moreover, there is also a greater likelihood of
chronic illness such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. Life spans can be shortened considerably
and the general thoughts and feeling about life are negative and unhappy. Social isolationism has

Social Capital In Post-Disaster Recovery Summary
Every day the world continues to spin no matter what happens to the people in it. While most of
those days occur without a major incident, every once and a while an event happens that captures
the world s attention. Some events, like Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the public was aware of the
storm approaching New Orleans, Louisiana. Others, like the Tokyo Earthquakeof 1923, came as a
surprise. Time, distance, and awareness all separate these two traumatic natural disasters. Rather,
what does not separate Hurricane Katrina and the 1923 Tokyo Earthquake is the lasting impact the
events had on the people whose world crumbled those days. Analyzing the personal narratives of

An important part of being able to rebuild after a natural disaster, according to Daniel Aldrich, is
to build social capital (Building Resilience 2). Throughout Building Resilience: Social Capital in
Post Disaster Recovery, Aldrich uses examples from both Hurricane Katrina and the 1923 Tokyo
Earthquake to show how effective strong societal bonds can be in repopulating cities that have
suffered large natural disasters. A clear example, Aldrich articulates, is the difference between
rebuilding efforts in the Village de L Est and the Lower Ninth Ward. Originally these areas had
roughly the same levels of poverty but Village de L Est rebuilt a majority of the area while the
Lower Ninth Ward is still mostly deserted (Building Resilience 1). The strong bonds that existed
between the Village de L Est residents allowed them to become more committed to reestablishing
their community. For many of the areas in both conflicts, the reliance on societal bonds prompts an
understanding that allows all members of the community to feel tied to the area and keeps the

Cruise Ship s And The Canadian Arctic Essay
Cruise Ship s and the Canadian Arctic
Cruise ship tourism is on the rise, by the end of 2016 nearly 24 million people will have taken a
cruise ( Cruise Industry Outlook, 2016). The cruise ship industry has experience a 68% increase in
demand since the mid 2000 s. Therefore, it is not surprising then, that the cruise ship industry had
an global economic impact of 119.9 billion in 2014 ( Cruise Industry Outlook, 2016). As more
individuals turn to cruises to fulfill their vacation needs, and arctic cruises are gaining in popularity
due to melting sea ice caused by climate change the issue of sustainability must be discussed,
particularly the environmental, economic and cultural impact that these enormous floating hotels
will undoubtedly have on the people and environment of Canada s Arctic.
The 1960 s marked the beginning of cruise tourism ( Brida, et.al, 2013). However, it wasn t until
the 70 s and 80 s that the cruise industry began to experience moderate growth. All of this
changed however in 90 s when cruise tourism took root in Europe, Asia and Oceania and 3.8
million people worldwide embarked on ocean adventures ( Brida, et.al, 2013). Although the
industry has experienced continual growth since the 90 s, and cruises are consistently ranked as
one of the top preferred vacation type by holiday goers, the cruise tourism industry is still relatively
small in relation to other forms of international tourism (Brida, et.al, 2013).

Essay on Langston Hughes and Jesse B. Simple
Lansgton Hughes and Jesse B. Semple
In the early 1940s an African American writer by the name of Langston Hughes, who flourished
during the Harlem Renaissance in New York, had established a character in his short story writings
named Jesse B. Semple. Through these short stories he used this character to represent the black
man of his times. However the question remains, is Jesse B. Semple an accurate representation of
the black man of 1940s? This question can best be answered by looking at the conditions of society
during that time period, what the mind set of the black man in that era and comparing it to the
representation that Hughes created with Jesse B. Semple.

The society in which Langston Hughes was projecting his work to was the era of the Harlem
Renaissance. However, even though the, Simple stories were created during the Harlem
Renaissance they held more importance during the 1940s. To best comprehend what the
character, Jesse B. Semple represented you must look at the society of that era and the point in
time he was created. Hughes began writing the, Simple stories in 1943. It started as a weekly
column in the Negro Newspaper, the Chicago Defender. During the 1940s the black man was still
experiencing oppression and segregation from the whites in America. The Civil Rights movement
had not yet taken place so blacks were still considered less then a citizen. Blacks in America could
not vote yet nor could they eat in the same restaurants as whites or even get a job other than a
servant in a white business or establishment. Therefore, with the type of climate that the society of
the 1940s had, many of the black authors coming out of the Harlem Renaissance, especially
Hughes, were considered radicals.
During the 1940s there were many authors creating poems and stories to try and uplift the spirit of
the black community in New York. However, Langston Hughes felt inspired to write about a
fictional character, which in he attempted to represent all of the feelings of the black man without
being blatant or bold: Jesse B. Semple is certainly no romantic hero, protest victim or

Summary Of Aristotle By Billy Collins
Where I am in Life In the poem Aristotle, by Billy Collins, it evaluates the three stages in life: the
beginning, middle, and end. Through each stanza readers encounter different sets of tones and
concepts that basically sum of the process of human life. Following careful evaluation, I believe
that where I am in life fits in the criteria of stanza one and two, the beginning and the middle
stages. Ideally, the beginning that Billy Collins refers to in the poem focuses on the meaning of
innocence when someone is born or something new has just begun. In the poem, Billy Collins
states, This is the first part where the wheels begin to turn... (23 24). As a high school senior, I

Credit Card Is A Problem For College Students
Credit card is a major problem for college students in the US because it can easily get out of
control. When a student gets himself into trouble with a credit card because of huge debts it
becomes harder to pay off all the amount of money you owe to the bank. For example if someone
get $5,000 of debts and the credit cardcarry an average rate of 18% percent and this person only
makes the monthly minimum payment of $100, it would take 8 years and cost nearly $10,000 to
pay the card off. Many students find the lure to buy now and pay later tempting very tempting but
it s a bad approach if you want to successfully manage your credit card. There s a lot of dangers
lurking behind that kind of mentality. College students should be careful with credit cards because
it is easy to get into debts that can last a long time, furthermore college students who have been
informed about credit card management should be able to handle one.
It is really risky for college students to have credit cards and it is really easy for students to obtain
one which makes a risky combination. Credit card companies will target college students because
as students grow and their income become larger, they will become great customers. Even though
credit card companies know that many students with little to no credit history would not be able to
get a card they make them their target anyway because they realize their potential to make money.
Many students lack of financial experience or education leads to

about 20 words per sentence. Using the Flesch Kincaid Reading Age equation I can deduce the

information then adds a superscript with the number corresponding to the citation. The article didn

Sturge-Weber Syndrome Research Paper Sturge Weber Syndrome Kris Avila 08/30/2015 NURSPT 030L Mrs. B Abstract According to the Sturge Weber Foundations, Sturge Weber Syndrome can be diagnosed once the baby is born. With the most obvious characteristics, the baby will have a dark purple birthmark that covers close to half of his/her face. Another symptom from Sturge Weber Syndrome is that it can cause neurological deformity. Both of these symptoms are caused by the abnormal blood vessels near the eye and on the surface of the brain. Studies have shown that this syndrome is not passed from family history, but the only remedy we can do is to suppress it (Sturge Weber.org). Pinpointing what kind of symptoms and category of Sturge Weber Syndrome the person has, an MD can figure out what types of remedies are available. There are many different types of pharmacologic treatments for seizures. Most of the seizures from the disease are located only on one side of the brain s hemisphere. Some of the medications include Carbamazepine, Phenytoin, Oxcarbazepine, Lamotrigine, Levetiracetam, Valproic Acid, Zonisamide, Topiramate, Lorazepam, Phenobarbital, Gabapentin, Pregabalin, Tiagabine, Diazepam, Felbamate, Lacosamide, and Clonazepam. With the seizures being controlled with medications, it helped prevent future seizures from 10% to 50%. Besides medications, there are also surgical treatments available as well. Early surgery for patients with Sturge Weber Syndrome is to improve and prevent developmental delay, refractory seizures, and hemiparesis. Lobectomy and craniotomy were recommended once being diagnosed with the disease because doctors have found that early onsets of seizures can lead towards mental retardatation. A procedure called hemispherectomy is also recommended to be given when a unilateral epileptogenic region exist. This procedure is also done while the patient is still young. While infants are still discovering most of their sensors, touch is important because higher levels of touch between parent and infant (e.g., skin to skin contact, affectionate touch, tactile game play) have been linked to secure attachment relationships, more positive social responses in infants, and positive, reciprocal parent infant interactions.. (577). Interactions between parent and infants through touch are important to visualize whether the infant is responding to reflexes, or involuntary movements. For example, when a child is touched on the cheek, most likely the baby will respond by turning their heads toward the direction of the hand. Abnormal touch and unresponsive reflexes can link to autism symptoms in children such as unresponsive to sensory stimuli. Tactile games such as holding a toy above them can monitor whether the baby is responding back or distracted and is unable to focus. Autism Speaks, describes research done on their article, Eye Contact Declines Early in Babies Who Later Develop Autism by explaining that babies are placed in front of a monitor that shows their mother speaking to them and showing their fingers and other movements to get the babies full attention. Seamus Heaney describes the childhood experience differently as the child grows and changes perception of nature from love to fear. Similarly, in Digging , Heaney presents himself as a child who studies through writing, in contrast to his father and his grandfather who dig into the ground. Heaney s father and grandfather use their shovels to work with the land, while Heaney uses his pen to write poetries. It is clear that Heaney is not going to follow his father s legacy, digging , he is going to have a different profession. Love and Lust in Play By Play, Sex without Love, and Junior Year Abroad Lust is an incredibly strong feeling that can prove to be almost uncontrollable, leading it to commonly be mistaken for love. Due to the relative closeness of these emotions, both are often confused, and even when one is in love he or she does not recognize it. Many think that love just comes knocking on one s door and one will know when it does, but they don t realize that for love to occur a relationship has must be worked out. She describes them as being ...Beautiful as dancers,/ gliding over each other like ice skaters (Olds 838); also they are considered very religious, and in tune with their bodies much like great runners are. The characters in the poem are depicted as athletes, agile and ready to compete, much like how the narrator, who talks so highly of them, wants to be. However, once again, only the emotion of lust is present in this piece, and there is no confusion between love and lust. So many people fall victim to lust, believing that it is something more than what it is. In the poem Junior Year Abroad, the lead character reveals lust for a man in her homeland, an emotion that quickly fades away after meeting someone during her stay in Paris. The poem begins with an introduction to her situation and reveals that he will come to Paris at Christmas to be with her. Their Afghan origins and influence began in 1994 in Southern Afghanistan following the Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan as a counter to the pro communist government. From their onset in Southern Afghanistan, the Taliban acquired a great deal of power and influence. Through armed force and following the ousting of the pro communist President Mohammad Najibullah by the Mujahedeen forces, the Taliban successfully took Kabul in 1996. Their political success manifested in them forming a government from September 1996 to December 2001. They maintained this control and power, despite international condemnation on human rights grounds. In fact, by 1998 they controlled around 90% of Afghanistan (Yung, 2007). However, their influence was not enough to capture the north western part of Afghanistan, which remained in the hands of the Northern Alliance. This case seemed to be simply put, but it was as if the counsel for the petitioner Michael A. Scodro could not comprehend this completely. In this case, a group of law professors filed an amicus brief, with the argument that jurisdiction was lacking by the Seventh Circuit to decide on the issue at hand. The oral argument began with Scodro, and it seemed as if the entire time the counsel was talking the Justices were bored and somewhat annoyed with even having to hear this argument. There were many instances where Scodro was cut off and it was apparent that the Court was fairly over this case before the argument was even heard. Scodro began the petitioners argument by saying, Congress has crafted a comprehensive body of administrative and judicial procedures and remedies that are tailored specifically to combatting discrimination against older workers. It s 1973, and field reports have been coming in about rear end collisions, fires, and fatalities. You must decide whether to recall the automobile. A. Identify the relevant facts. In August of 1978 three teenage girls were driving a Ford Pinto and were struck from behind. The three girls died because the Ford Pinto s fuel tank ruptured from the collision and burst into flames. Ford convinced NHTSA that cost/benefit analysis would be appropriate for determining not to change the fuel tank. The costs were eleven dollars per fuel tank to change which ended up equaling 137.5 million dollars. All of the relevant facts discussed above lead to many ethical issues. Ford was aware of the problem with the gas tank leaking and could have changed it before others died from their mistakes. Putting a price value on a life to beat the Japanese in the small car market is unethical. Safety should be a company s number one priority, not beating the completion. There was a legal issue of NHTSA and Ford. Ford was aware that the fuel tanks were not working correctly but did nothing to change it because the NHTSA, at the time, had no laws against it. C. • 20. Summary Of Accuracy In Island Of The Blue Dolphinss Accuracy in Island of the Blue Dolphins Accuracy varies depending on the purpose by which an author writes a story. Some authors may choose to base their story purely on facts, some may stick to being entirely fictional, and the rest pick and choose facts and fiction. Island of the Blue Dolphins entails the journey of a young native girl, Karana, who becomes stranded on her home island until her eventual rescue. This story in particular is based on that of a Nicoleno woman, the Lone Woman. However, facts were left out regarding what happened in real life. In Island of the Blue Dolphins, the author, O Dell, inaccurately depicts the Lone Woman s situational, historical, and archaeological relevance. O Dell undermines the Lone Woman s relevance in terms of the situations Karana, the main character, faces throughout Island of the Blue Dolphins. Karana watches her father die , which is an aspect O Dell created to develop his story and is not historically evident. O Dell s personal views of what a mother should be affected the accuracy of his story because he felt that a mother should not forget her child . This explains why his book shows how Karana returned to the island for her brother instead of being like the Lone Woman who returned for her child. O Dell even makes up the concept of public and secret names , which furthers his inaccuracy because this shows that he added the names as an element to build on the symbolism. The use of green is a reflection of Garden of Eden imagery in the poem that portrays the Green Knight as a tempter, a serpent, in the garden, Arthur s court. The existence of sin is evident in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. The sin in Gawain s garden results from chivalry. The code of knighthood Gawain and other knights follow includes courage and loyalty to one s lord. This courage and loyalty carries with it a sense of pride for the knights, pride that causes them to sin. Thus, Gawain fails to follow a life of purity, for as he follows the code of knighthood, he participates in Christian sin murder, drunkenness, pride. For instance, when the Green Knight gives an offer to Arthur s court to play the beheading game, he initially receives no volunteers. However, as Arthur attempts to participate, Gawain steps up and takes his place, for it is his role to be loyal and fight for his lord. This is evident when he states, My body, but for your [Arthur] blood, is barren of worth; / And for that this folly befits not a king, / And tis that I have asked it, it ought to be mine ( 357 359). • 22. An Analysis Of Jeremy Bentham, White And Haine An initial design of Jeremy Bentham, White and Haine noted how the panopticon for Foucault was a metaphor for the architectural figure of the disciplinary composition identified in the plague.15 In summary, the panopticon is a circular architectural structure where the cells are arranged around a central viewing tower in a manner that ensures permanent visibility.16 Resisting any reliance on physical instruments of control (other than the architectural structure and geometrics of the building), the panopticoninstalls a repressive system based on a principle of permanent surveillance which ensures the functioning of power .17 Semple reinforced this point, noting that Foucault elevated the panopticon because it was the instrument of transformation; it becoming the emblem of modern disciplinary power.18 It automised and disindividualised power, with a real subjection born mechanically from a fictitious relation.19 For Foucault, the panopticon was also a mechanism that created an environment that could be used to experiment, alter behaviour and to train/correct individuals. An observer in the panopticon allowed one to carry out experiments on its subjects, study behaviour and analyse actions. The plague stricken town undoubtedly conveyed an exceptional disciplinary model: violently perfect, the effective exercise of the right of the sword.20 It was an image of discipline blockade , the enclosed institution established on the fringe of society.21 The panopticon however, was ... This makes obvious to the reader the extent of Mariana s loneliness В– so has no mended her state of mind. As in The Lady of Shalott, the fluctuations of the general repetitions play an important role in demonstrating the major theme of loneliness in the poems. In this sense, repetition in poetry is a form of torture. In Mariana s case, her repetition of dreary and aweary is perhaps Tennyson s way of brainwashing the reader into relating to the loneliness of the artist. Similarly, in the Lady s case, the repetition of Shalott and Camelot show distinct barriers between the artist s world and the real world, in order to infect the reader s mind with feelings of loneliness from isolation. That said, repetition in these two poems acts as a self fulfilling prophecy which causes the reader to believe anything that is extensively repeated. In both The Lady of Shalott and Mariana, Tennyson also uses deliberate stanza structure in order to stress his key themes. Although the meter of the two poems differ from one another, Tennyson s purpose for doing so is very similar in both works. The Lady of Shalott is based on lines one to four and lines seven to nine of each ten line stanza being written in iambic tetrameter, and lines five and ten, most often occurring as iambic ... Early plastics were bio derived materials, which are organic polymers. In 1600 BC, Mesoamericans used natural rubber for balls, bands, and figurines. In 1839, Charles Goodyear discovered a process in which sulfur reacted with crude rubber when heated and then cooled. The rubber became resilient upon cooling, it could stretch, but it snapped back to its original shape. It also retained its flexibility when heated. We now know that the sulfur forms chemical bonds between adjacent rubber polymerstrands. The bonds cross link the polymer strands, allowing them to go back to normal when stretched. • 37. What Are The Difference Between Yin And Yang And Taoism Chinese culture is largely surrounded by the idea of balance. We see this in Yin and Yang, and a balance between light and dark, or tall and short. While the Americanized version of this concept is the difference between the two, the original concept looks at how yin and yang balance each other and work together. This idea of balance is integrated in the idea of the five seasons and the elements that represent those seasons. The five elements are also related to Taoism in many ways. Yin and Yangis also part of the Chinese world creation myth. They believed that there was Wu Chi and then there was Tai Chi, or nothing and then something. That something was Yin and Yang, or in balance. For example When people find one thing beautiful another consequently becomes ugly. (Tzu, Pg.2) While this is explaining Taoism, it also incompases the idea of Yin and Yang and how they complement each other creating balance. From this something the World was born and Taoism came into being. Taoism is the idea of man when he was connected to the earth and all it s creatures. This was known as The age of perfect Virtue. ((Hoff, Pg.20). This idea was was originally introduced by Chuang Tse who was a Chinese philosopher in around the 4th century B.C.E. He said In the Age of Perfect Virtue, men lived among the animals and birds as members of one large family. There were no distinctions between superior and Inferior to separate one man or species from another. All retained their natural virtue and lived in the state of pure simplicity... We were once able to communicate with the creatures of the earth, but then man became greedy and was cast out by the creatures losing its connections with the beings. We became independent and killed animals for food. Some still remember our connection to nature and teach it to those around them. From this came practices such as maintaining that balance through the five seasons. The five seasons are spring, summer, late summer, autumn, and winter correspond with the five elements and each has its own things that are unique to it. • 38. Significance Of The Magna Carta The Magna Carta was a very influential document that helped to established for the first time the principle that everybody, including the King, was subject to the law. The rule of law is a concept fundamental to democratic forms of government and asserts that all, including leaders, must abide by the laws of the nation. While the Magna Cartadoes not specifically state that the King is subject to the rule of law, the document establishes that principle by imposing limits on the King s power. In 1215, the Magna Carta was a peace treaty between King John and the Barons. First drafted by the Archbishop of Canterbury to make peace between the unpopular King and rebel Barons, it promised the protection of church rights, protection for the Barons from illegal imprisonment, access to swift justice, and limitations on feudal payments to the Crown, which was set to be implemented through a council of 25 Barons. Neither side stood behind their commitments, and the charter was annulled by Pope Innocent III, leading to the First Barons War. In retrospect it was a failure, but it provided a new framework for the relationship between the King and his subjects. After King John s death, his son Henry III, reissued the document in 1216, stripping some of its more radical content, in an unsuccessful bid to build political support for the new government. At the end of the war in 1217, it formed part of the peace treaty agreed at Lambeth, where the document acquired the name Magna ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The existing system is obsolete. The system is costing the company time and money because of the manual processes in place for financial reporting. A major reason for the issues concerning the current F and A system is that each of the facilities has a different F and A system that is not compatible with the others (Apollo Group, 2005, 2006). The lack of compatibility shows up in the form of different types of data that the finance staff receives.
