Adam Lanza and Sandy Hook Elementary
How could one deranged man voluntarily walk into an elementary school and open fire on children
who haven t even had all their teeth come in yet? Newtown, Connecticut is like any other small
suburban town; quiet, quaint and safe. That was until a twenty four year old sociopath (Alexander,
Barrett, Donnelly, Swaine), by the name of Adam Lanza, put this charming town on the map, and
not for a decent notable reason. Sandy HookElementary School educates students grades
kindergarten through fifth and Lanza forced his way into the kindergarten and first grade level
rooms. Friday, December 14, 2012 will forever be a date not necessarily marked on our
calendars, but in our hearts. While millions of Americans continued their normal routines,
innocent children s lives, as well as a handful of heroic teachers, were taken away in a matter of
seconds, since each victim was shot three to eleven times, according to medical examiner, H.
Wayne Carver (Circa Part 4). Superintendent Janet Robinson commented, A lot of children are
alive today because of actions the teachers took. (Circa Part 10) A total of twenty six individuals
were tragically murdered because why? That answer will never be answered since Lanza
committed suicide at the scene as policewere on their way, which leaves no closure for the victims
family and friends. The Newtown, Connecticutshooting caused an increased in protection at schools

Shoulder Replacement Versus Traditional Hip Replacement Essay
Hip Replacement Versus Traditional Hip Replacement The continuous aging of the human body
combined with the stress of physical activities create a repeated stress on the joints of our bodies
that carry the potential risk of developing osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is one of the most common
forms of arthritis that is the worsening of the joints occurring particularly in the hands, knees, and
hip. Osteoarthritis occurs primarily with elderly individuals who have severely worsened their
joints leading to disability. When studying joint deterioration radiographic signs of OA include
joint space narrowing, subchondral bonesclerosis, and osteophyte formation (Bennell, Poquet,
Williams, 2016, P. 1689). These signs prove detrimental for some individuals who begin to suffer
severe pain leading to the inability of performing simple tasks such as writing and/or walking. Hip
disabilities are especially common as a result of osteoarthritis, leaving individuals with several
choices of treatment. Whether it s physical therapy, exercise, or taking medicine, these options
might not prove helpful depending on the severity of the hip joint. In this essay, I will be
comparing minimally invasive hip replacementto traditional hip replacement to determine why
someone need s a hip replacement procedure, which option more favorable, and the physical
therapy following post replacement. The gradual wear and tear that is put on the joints of our
human body causes cartilage to begin to gradually

Drug Use Is Not Something That Just Happens Overnight
Drug use is not something that just happens overnight. There are many things that led up to a
person deciding they want to try a drug for the first time. It might be that they were exposed to it
at an early age and perceived it to be the norm to use them. They might have experienced peer
pressure at a party or just wanted to fit in with a certain crowd. Or they may have gotten a
prescription for one and liked the high they felt when they were on it so they wanted to find a
way to continue feeling that same high. Each situation is different, and the drugs that were most
likely used in each scenario are also going to be different. A drug that is rather common for
someone to be exposed to from an early age is cocaine. Cocaine is classified... Show more content

Then the coca paste is dissolved in a small amount of dilute sulfuric acid and potassium
permanganate is added (How Cocaine Is Made. (n.d.).
When cocaine is in this form it is most often snorted or mixed with water and injected into the
blood stream. The high people get from cocaine use does not last very long, which is what causes
them to binge use, and why addiction can be caused so quickly. The user is constantly chasing that
initial high and wanting it to last longer. Cocaine is a strong central nervous system stimulant that
increases levels of the neurotransmitter dopamine in brain circuits regulating pleasure and
movement (Cocaine (2013, April). It can also cause bursts of energy, talkativeness, increased heart
rate and blood pressure, dilated pupils, and increased body temperature. The most serious side
effect can be death if the manufacturing process was not done correctly.
Learning theory is probably the best explanation as to why one would chose to use cocaine.
Cocaine produces a high that can be rewarding because of the euphoria it produces. When the high
wears off the user experiences a crash and wants the high back. They have learned through
continued use that in order to get the euphoric feeling they must continue to use the drug. Although
chemicals such as cocaine might initially have been used for social reasons, the substances ability

Tom Hanks Congressional Medal Of Freedom
Tom Hanks recently received a Congressional Medal of Freedom from the United States President
Barack Obama. He was awarded for his outstanding work in the industry of film and acting.
According to the President, he only awards the medals to those who made outstanding contributions
in order to make the American society great. And according to the actor, he would not be able to
get to where he is without the arts.
The veteran actor boasts of how much he loves Cleveland. Tom Hanks recalled how he started as
an intern at the Great Lakes Shakespeare Festival back in 1977. And to make his visit at Cuyahoga
Community College, or Tri C memorable, he revealed how he first started.
Tom Hanks spoke to hundreds of students at Tri C last week, December 2, 2016, about how he

President Of The United States
His power, his passion, is the fabric of America. And it s woven by work ethic and dreams and
drive and faith in the Almighty, what a combination. (S, Palin) Donald Trump is powerful,
persuasive and risky. As a candidate for President of the United States, Trump stands strong to
purported morals. His campaign video depicts him as the ultimate candidate ; an individual is
who has the ability to stand up for middle class American s yet be strong enough to institute
change, which the Obama administration has been perceived as failing to do. However we are
also able to see how Trump has used his power to shape his ideal self into something he is not.
Someone who uses codes and signifiers in his favour to fabricate new ideas and conventions.
Donald Trump has a strident voice, but those who stand with him appear silent in stark contrast.
The reason for this being that Trump s campaign, even down to his fan base, is centred on
oppression. His goal is to appeal to middle class, white citizens who feel that they have been
deprived of the American Dream. That is; the ideal that every US citizen should have an equal
opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative
(Oxford Dictionaries). He targets this subgroup and directs their resentment to the people who have
tarnished this American Dream . For example, Trump has voiced that he wants to deport all
Mexicans and build a wall between the borders demonstrating his strong motive to

The Dred Scott V. Sanford Case
The Supreme Court is the highest court of the United States of America. With this title they have
the final say about the decisions for the country. However the Supreme Court can make mistakes
and have so before. The case considered the worst Supreme Court decision among many scholars
is the Dred Scott V. Sanford case from the pre civil war era. In which time slavery was a very hot
topic between the states. In this case it was determined that a slave was not only not a citizen of the
United Statesbut also property (our documents). This court ruling made useless of the Missouri
compromise of 1850 which made states above the 36В°30 line Free states and all below the line
slaves states (History). This decision was eventually overturned by the Civil War amendments
the 13th and 14th which stated that slavery is illegal in all states not only ones in rebellion and
that all people born in the united states are citizens including people of color (our documents). To
know a little background about Dred Scott, he was born in Virginia around 1795 but it is not
certain of the exact date (biography). His original birth name was Sam Scott, but after the death
of his brother, he changed it to Dred scott in mourning of his brother (Biography). Dred Scott
moved from Virginia to Alabama with his original owner who is believed to be Peter Blow
(Biography). Dred Scott was then sold to military surgeon John Emmerson (Biography). He then

How Micro Transactions Can Use For Play And Paid Games Are...
Micro transactions
Background
The use of micro transactions in free to play and paid games are the norm nowadays. The different
types of micro transactions in games can range from simple color changes, buffs, buying items, and
account transfers. The concept behind micro transactions is to let the consumer choose what they
want, and it lets the developer earn extra money on the side. The problem with using micro
transaction in games is that the developers will stop making good games, and instead make games
revolve around the necessity of using micro transactions (Rybicki, 2006).
Revenue
The amount of money a free to play game earns will shock most people. According to SuperData,
a marketing intelligence firm, Riot Games in 2013 earned $624 million from League of Legends
(Jarvey, 2014). League of Legends is a free to play game that has micro transaction. The appeal of
generating money through micro transactions in gaming are stronger than ever with profits
reported by the likes of Riot Games. The following chart shows the top ten online free to play
game revenues for 2013.

Price of gaming
History
The age of playing on the video game console was thought to end in recent years, but strong need
for console gaming is still in demand. The Sony Playstation 4 has sold over 20 million, while
Microsoft and Nintendo have sold half that amount. Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo are projected to

The Achievements Of The Nobel Peace Prize
Winning the Nobel Peace Prize is an amazing feat and accomplishments that very few people
receive. Only two US presidents, Theodore Roosevelt, and Barack Obama have received the
award. Roosevelt was the first ever American to win this award. His life story and eventful
experiences help shape him as the person we recognize as an impactful person in history.
Theodore Roosevelt was born on October 27th of 1858 into a Dutch family living in New York.
As a child, he struggled with his asthma. Many of his family members called him Teddy , a name
he wasn t found of. However, that name latched on until people used his nickname to make a toy
many of us are familiar with, a Teddy Bear. His father, Theodore Roosevelt Sr., knew he was
very intelligent but thought he did not have the body to match. He told him to make his body by
exercising, so young Theodore did and became stronger. This led him to gain an interest in
wrestling and weightlifting. When Theodore became a teenager he also became interested in
gymnastics and continued to enjoy sports into his college years and beyond. Roosevelt went to
Harvard College and spent 4 years there. At Harvard, he studied natural science as his major at
first, however when his father died he switched his major to law. He excelled in sports and
education and found a good balance between the two. Roosevelt had an interesting and influential
family that helped him be the person we know starting with his first child. On February 12, 1884,

Analysis Of The Poem Bacchus Discovering Ariadne
Jacob Jordaens, Bacchus Discovering Ariadne, late 1640 s
This painting that I have found while venturing the Museum of Fine Arts has definitely caught my
eye for infinite reasons. Bacchus Discovering Ariadne by Jacob Jordaens was definitely a painting
that has a story, but the thing is, there isn t much about it, which is a challenge. Most of the focus
in this painting is set on Ariadne and the meeting between her and Bacchus. Not only that but the
painting, and all other paintings associated with this myth, focus on the shift from divine perfection
to humanity that is found in Renaissance and Baroque artwork. The oil painting made by Jacob
Jordaens tells the story of Ariadne, the princess of Crete, being deserted on the Island of Naxos by
Theseus, the Athenian prince who she helped escape from her father s labyrinth. Bacchus, whom
is the god of wine, and his satyrs discover her, and he falls in love with Ariadne. As a testimony of
his devotion he holds up her crown, which he will then toss into the heavens to create a
constellation in her honor. In this painting he shows Ariadne as an extremely feminine figure that s
not only fair but regarded as beautiful The body of Bacchus is sculpted showing the muscles in his
legs and throughout the rest of his body. But the contrast in this painting is striking. The contrast of
this painting lies between the structural elements of Bacchus and of the three satyrs that have
accompanied him. These satyrs are in dim lighting and less

The Devil Tree Short Story
THE HOUSE There was once a tree the local farmers and city folk referred too as the Devil Tree.
According to local legend, those who came in contact with the tree, especially anyone who did
harm to the Devil Tree, had dire consequences. Cursed! exclaimed the men and women of the
city. They may have been right, as it seems generations of people already lay dead due to the
Devil Tree. As time went on the old tree was finally cut down. The tree was cut into building
wood and later built into a house, and like the tree, the house was alive. It had memory and most
importantly it had hunger. Over many more generations the house passed from owner to owner
until one year, an unordinary couple bought the house. The Hatman s lived in the house for five
years during the 80s without moving out. People in the city became curious, specifically one
person: Dr. Toboggan. He had lived next door to the house for fifteen years and heard all the
horrible things that had happened inside the house. Now even though he still hears the noises he
sees the Hatman s get their mail every day. One day he saw the Hatman s bring something into their
house and it moved and jerked back and forth. He then waited a few minutes then grabbed a camera
and entered the house through the back window. As he jumped through the window he heard a loud
screech coming from the basement. As Dr. Toboggan crept through the house he saw unimaginable

these ancient teachings.
PHILOSOPHY OF BELIEF IN BUDDHISM
To a Buddhist, inner drive or self desire sets one s fate and destiny and God

Once the law is set or made there must be a force to compel obedience from subjects of that law.
Karma law is a conception or an idea developed by founders of Hinduism, presumably by the
Aryans and may have been later adopted by reformers like Sri Krishna and Buddha, who passed
on this idea to their followers. Although Karma laws are associated with a set of moral values and
ethical conducts, no one is compelled to follow and practice such values and ethics because there is
no authority to enforce that law.
To enforce means, to encourage subjects to follow these laws in return for rewards or to discourage
would be criminals from breaking the law through threats of punishments. To implement any law
there must be a mechanism of enforcement. To say that a law can act on its own is an implausible
proposition.
In fact, man made laws could not be implemented without the involvement of enforcement bodies
like the police force, prosecutors, judges and courts of laws. For instance, in any country there are
laws enacted to prevent stealing, an act which is pernicious and could cause disorder to social life.

Erich Remarque s The Red Badge Of Courage Essay
Erich Remarque A. Wheen John Groth Printed at the Spiral Press for the individuals from the
Limited Editions Club 1969.
Looked into By, Michael Anderson, Shepherd University.
Erich Maria Remarque was conceived in Osnabruck, Germany, in 1898 into a lower working class
family. In 1916, he was drafted into the German armed force to battle in World War I
, in which he
was gravely injured. Ten years after the war finished, he distributed I m Western Nights Neuse,
converted into English a year later as All Quiet on the Western Front, a novel about the encounters
of conventional German fighters amid the war.
In spite of the fact that different books, most strikingly Stephen Crane s The Red Badge of Courage
(1895), had investigated the viciousness and severity of war in a sensible light, the abstract
convention of war stories still tended overwhelmingly toward romanticized beliefs of eminence,
enterprise, and respect. In introducing his dismally reasonable variant of an officer s experience,
Remarque stripped the common sentimentalism from the war story in the staunchly antiwar All
Quiet on the Western Front. The novel immediately turned into a universal, widely praised
achievement. An American motion picture in light of the book was discharged in 1930.
After Adolf Hitler s ascent to control in Germany in the mid 1930s, the furiously nationalistic Nazi
administration assaulted All Quiet on the Western Front and Remarque as unpatriotic. Remarque
made no endeavor to oppose

faced the challenges of everyday life in the projects. The protagonist Sticky is a boy from the
slums of California who spent a large portion of his life in an orphanage. Throughout the years he

were in way a bad influence on him, some were criminals, and others were involved in drug use.
This was one of the reasons for why Sticky was stealing. At one point Dante had encouraged him
to rob someone, Back in the day I d probably hunted down some rich cat (227). Then again the
people at Lincoln Rec were the only people had, they were the ones he called family because of
them he toughened up with the encounters with Rob and Fat Chuck. Dante and the other were
always there for him and taught him how to survive in the slums. The slums were looked down
upon by society. Although, Sticky with the help of others had learned to adapt, this changed him as
a person.
Sticky s passion for basketball was the only thing that kept him going. It was the only thing he
lived for. He dreamed of joining the NBA and going to the top universities, UCLA in particular.
Sticky put in hours and hours at Lincoln Rec of tireless hard work. Even when Sticky had lost a

An Intimate View Of Imagery Of Langston Hughes Dream...
An Intimate View of the Imagery in Langston Hughes Dream Deferred
America is built on a dream, the idea that anyone has the opportunity for prosperity, success, and
an upward social mobility when they work hard. This dream is a siren call to America s shores
for millions of people from across the world looking to forge a better life. Unfortunately, this
dream seems to elude Blacks in America. The elusiveness of this dream is not because Blacks do
not want to succeed or have the hunger to achieve their goals but because extraneous forces often
causes it to be out of reach and ultimately deferred. But What happens to a dream deferred? in
Langston Hughes seminal poem Dream Deferred the use of vivid imagery shows the regret,
sadness, and the danger of forgotten dreams. The beauty of a dream is unrivaled; a dream can
snatch 13 colonies from under the tyrannical thumb of a Queen or rouse millions of people to
descend on the National Mall to hear a reverend from Atlanta speak of equality. Dreams are
succulent like a grape but what happens when unattended? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun?
This image elicits regret, a once inviting fruit is now dried, withered, and less appealing. The sun
(outside influences) have taken away what made the grape beautiful and replaced that attractiveness
with a vison of what could have been. Though that raisin can still provide sustenance, just as a
janitor still provides for their family, the janitor s dream of becoming an artist

European Imperialism In The Caribbean
The effects of European colonization can still be seen today. It can be seen physically in the
landscapes of the islands of the Caribbean, and mentally it is still present in some of the inhabitant
s minds. Political struggles should not be ignored as well as many islands have struggled since
their independence. Today when many Europeans look back at the peak of their country s empires
they see the Caribbeanas a contributing factor. While there is no question as to the wealth
generated by the control of the Caribbean islands, one can ask how great these European
colonizers were. There are many ways to measure accomplishment, if one measures it just by
wealth then European colonization could be considered a success. However, if we were to... Show

And by the end of the War of Spanish Secession, piracy was soon outlawed in the Caribbean.
What Rediker is showing is not only the European empires desire for more wealth, but also the
ruling classes ability to control the working class to gain more wealth. Furthermore, he shows
that as soon as the ruling class finds a more profitable way to make money, their attitudes would
change regardless of the concerns of the working class. He also points out that the sailors knew
that these wars were fought, for the most part, over wealth, a substantial portion of which was
based on the key commodities of the Atlantic trades in which he worked gold, silver, fish, furs,
servants and slaves, sugar, tobacco, and manufactures (Rediker 21). Once privateering was
outlawed, and combined with the downsizing of European navies, many sailors found
themselves out of work. This led to the rise of piracy, and in my opinion directly challenged the
notion that European empires were strong and powerful. Piracy could be viewed a war on the
rich, where men who saw no other economic opportunity choose to steal from whom they used to
work for. During the golden age of piracy between 1716 and 1726, according to Rediker around
2400 ships were captured. European countries could do little as their navies were reduced in size
after the War of Spanish Secession. The capturing and sometimes burning of

Competitive Cheerleading Is A Sport
What is the formal definition of a sport? The dictionary considers it to be an activity involving
physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for
entertainment. There seems to be much dispute over whether competitive cheerleading fits the
criteria of a sport. Cheerleadinghas developed into something almost completely different than what
it used to be in the past. Competitive cheerleading consists of performing physically demanding
routines and competing against other squads. Competitive cheerleading should be labeled as a
sport, thus recognizing the competitive cheerleaders as athletes.
Cheerleading has all the elements to be considered a sport that any other sport has. There are some

If they did not, they would not be able to perform at the level and vigor that they do. In addition
to cheering on the other teams at their school, they also compete themselves. Gutgold
acknowledges, High school cheerleading will always proudly carry the tradition of supporting
other sports teams throughout the year, but it s also time for everyone to know that the spirited
students cheering on the sidelines come fall are also hardworking athletes with their own sport
and season. More often than not it seems cheerleaders do not receive the respect they deserve for
all that they do. This might be because spectators do not realize the difficulty and exertion it takes
to execute a routine. This is partly caused by the regulations on what can and cannot be performed.
Pete Warner, a member of the BDN staff and Maine s Sportswriter of the Year, mentions this.
Safety rules are in place, meaning that fans can only see the basic stunts and less advanced
tumbling (Warner). Oftentimes cheerleaders do not feel people understand how much talent and
passion they actually have for cheerleading (Warner). However, the desire for their sport is there,
and it is fueling them to prove the skeptics and nonbelievers

Competition Within The U.s. Pharmaceutical Industry
Competition within the U.S. pharmaceutical industry is very high. With less elastic demand than
for other industries, profit potential is enormous. Demand is more inelastic as prescription drugs
are necessary for many individuals with illnesses such as diabetes and high blood pressure. Within
the industry, there are two types of manufacturers: brand name and generic. These groups compete
not only among one another, but with each other as well. Brand name pharmaceutical companies
often try to, and succeed in preventing or delaying approval and circulation of generic equivalents.
The most common tactic used is a reverse payment settlement agreement, otherwise known as pay
for delay . Generic firms promise to delay the circulation of their... Show more content on

On the other hand, generic companies primary activities include developing, producing, marketing,
distributing, and gaining regulatory approval for generic drugs (Philips, 2014). While generic
companies do engage in research and development (R D), it s goal is to create similar drugs that the
brand name manufacturer just patented. If successful, the generic company files an Abbreviated
New Drug Application (ANDA) for approval and must make a certification against each patent by
the brand name manufacturer. To do this, the generic company must make a Paragraph IV
certification which states that the patent is invalid or will not be infringed by the generic product
(Fitzpatrick, Cella, Harper Scinto, 2012). In a reverse payment settlement agreement, brand name
pharmaceutical manufacturers provide compensation to generic pharmaceutical manufacturers in
order to settle the challenge to their patent. In order to receive the compensation, the generic
company must agree to drop its patent challenge and is restricted from marketing and distributing
its product for some stated period of time. These settlements act as patent extensions, providing the
brand name firm with more monopoly time on a drug. Reverse payment settlement agreements
appeared as an unexpected result of the Hatch Waxman Act of 1984, which

My Family At The United States
Just like any other immigrants coming to the United States, my family was in search for a better
life. My parents both came from Asia; my dad was from China and my mom was from Japan.
Being a first generation American, I was considered Nisei. I lived in San Jose California and
stayed there my whole life. My parents were hard working people and showed me what it meant
to be truly American. I was an only child and was twelve years old when the United States was
attacked by the Japanese military. My dad owned a store and my mom helped Japanese people
come to America. She would provide temporary housing. I always remember playing with the kids
coming from Japan, I could never understand them but they were really nice. After a few months
they would pick up a few words. The neighborhood kids loved playing with them as well their
parents. Every now and then my familyand other Niseis would experience some forms of
discrimination, like waiting in lines longer at the movies, stores, and restaurants. Not to mention
that all kinds of cultures received the same treatment. But for some reason the African American
group had it a little harder than we did. After the attackon Pearl Harbor, my parents didn t let me
play outside. Our neighbors and close friends turned on us. They forbidden their children to play
with me at home and at school. At the time I didn t understand it. Also my dad would come home
earlier than usual from work. He would always tell me that he just wanted more father

Melting Point And Boling Point
Introduction: Melting point and Boling point are two fundamental physical properties that are
commonly used to identify unknown compounds, to verify already known compounds, and to
determine the purity of compounds.2 If the compound is a solid, the procedure for melting point
determination is followed. However, if it is a liquida boiling point technique must be performed,
such as distillation or refluxing.2
The melting point determination consists of five major steps: obtain the sample and make sure it is
grinded, fill 2 3 capillary tubes with the sample, ensure that the sample is tightly packed, insert the
tubes into the Melting Point Apparatus to run a fast and a slow ramp, and finally record the data.3
Grinding the sample could be done by several methods. A large stainless steel spatula could be
used to directly crush the tiny crystals into fine powder, or the sample could be first placed
within a folded piece of filter paper and then pressed with the spatula.2 A mortar and pestle are
also an appropriate instrument to grind the sample.4 Next, the adequate amount of sample, which
is 1 2mm, should be collected with each capillary tube.2 If less sample is collected, it is much
harder to see when the first and last droplets form, making it difficult for the chemist to record
melting range temperatures.6 If the capillary tubes are filled with larger sample, this could cause
uneven heating during the fast and slow ramps and could also provide inaccurate melting range that

Hip Hop Music And African American Oral Traditions
In order to understand hip hop dance, it is important to recognize hip hop music and where it came
from. Many scholars of rap music relate the founding of rap to African and African American oral
and musical traditions, specifically African griots and storytellers. They link the rhythm of rap to
the use of drums in Africa and to African Americanmusic in the United States, from slave songs
and spirituals to jazz and R B. Scholars have found very interesting connections between rap music
and Black nationalist traditions (traditions historically practiced by black people that serve as part
of their racial identity). Rap is similar to the call and response of the black church, the joy and pain
of the blues, the jive talk and slang of the hipsters and jazz musicians, the boasting of street talk, the
sidesplitting humor of comedians, and the articulateness of black activists. All of these African
American oral traditions, including rap, can be traced back to West African oral traditions. In
traditional African societies, the spoken word and oral culture included poetry, storytelling, and
speaking to drumbeats. The links between rap music and African American oral and musical
traditions demonstrate that hip hop music represents more than just sound. It represents history.
This aspect of it, in my opinion, makes this type of music very unique and makes it carry more
value.
Rap music officially started in 1978 in the Bronx, New York. According to the author, most

Reflection On Anthem By Ayn Rand
While reading this book I was deeply concerned with the totalitarian government they had in place.
It reminded me a lot of the book Anthem by Ayn Rand where they also lived in a very oppressive

their job in society. Throughout the whole novel, I questioned how Mae was okay with working

Grinding Is A Metal Cutting Operation
Grinding is a metal cutting operation performed by means of abrasive particles rigidly mounted
on a rotating wheel. Each of the abrasive particles act as a single point cutting tool and grinding
wheel acts as a multipoint cutting tool. The grinding operation is used to finish the work pieces
with extremely high quality of surface finish and accuracy of shape and dimension. Grinding is
one of the widely accepted finishing operations because it removes material in very small size of
chips 0.25 to 0.50 mm. It provides accuracy of the order of 0.000025 mm. grinding of very hard
material is also possible. 1.3.1 Objectives: Provide excellent quality of surface finish to the
surface, Impart high quality of accuracy of shape and dimension, Finishing of hardened metallic
surfaces, Sharpening of cutting edges of cutting tools, Maintaining tool geometry of cutting
tools, Flattening and forming of surfaces, Finishing of castings by removing impressions of
sprues, risers, parting lines, etc., and Removal of scales and burrs, etc. 1.3.2 TYPES OF
GRINDING: There can be different criteria to classify grinding into different categories. On the
basis of quality of grinding, it is classified as rough grinding and precision grinding.  Rough

The Big Bang Theory Of Sarcasm
1.Chin s main point about sarcasm is that it is very useful and that it is an necesary tool to
understanding each other, especially in our culture. Chin says, Sarcasm detection is an essential
skill if one is going to function in a modern society dripping with irony. The people that can t
detect sarcasm are socially inept, so to speak, because they will take what is said at face value,
instead of understanding the nuances of what isn t being said. 2.Sarcasm is a neurological ability,
not just a style of talking that some people use. It takes more brain power to percieve irony than
regular conversation does. Like mental bodybuilding, it forces the brain to extend itself to
understand what the truth is behind the sarcasm. The article states that, Sarcasm seems to exercise
the brain more than sincere statements do. Scientists who have monitored the electrical activity of

Someone who can not understand sarcasm can stand out from others in social situations, like
the character Sheldon Cooper on the tv show The Big Bang Theory. Although his character is a
genius, he has to work harder to understand some of the most basic interactions between the other
characters. The ability to detect sarcasm is a natural occurence in most people from ages as
young as four years old. People that are unable to detect sarcasm may be autistic, have had brain
injuries or lesions, or be schizophrenic. Dementia can cause a person to lose the ability to detect
sarcasm and may be one of the early signs of the disease. 4.In Greek, sarcasm means to tear flesh
like dogs. Another way to say this would be that the mean, cutting remarks of sarcasm can hurt
someone. An example would be when someone is being sarcastic, but the intention of the remark is
to hurt or demean the person it is being said to. People that are trying to percieve themselves to be
more popular than they are might be more prone to this, as a defense mechanism against what
others might think about

Their relationship went through a lot including Gonne s short lived marrige to John McBride.
Most of Yeats s poetry is addressed to her. Yeats associated her with Helen of Troy, whose
capriciousness led to the destruction of a civilization. In 1986 Yeats became friends with Lady
Isabella Augusta Gregory, a nationalist playwright. Together Yeats and Lady Gregory helped to
found the Abbey Theater. As the director and dramatist Yeats helped to turn it into a leading
theatrical company of the world and a center of the Irish Renaissance. Near the Turn of the
century Yeats fought to abandon his old style of writing, at this time his writing became less
mystical and symbolic and it became clearer. Yeats eventually got married in 1917, at the age of
52. His wife was Georgie Hyde Lees, while on their honeymoon she discovered that she had
mediumistic abilities. Through automatic writing she could communicate with a visionary

Advancement of Guns, Mobile Units, and Aircraft was significant because each side (Axis Powers
and Allied Nations) both wanted advantages and strategic improvements to give other side a higher

advancements allowed great advantages and strategic improvements to either sides. The way each
advancement was used was significant on how many people died during the war. The technology

mesopotamia means the land between the rivers (Leick, 2003, p. xii) . Mesopotamia was located

civilizations relied mostly on hunting and gathering near the Levantine Coast (Leick, 2003).

The Three Major Aspects Of Industrialization From 1865 To...
There are three major aspects of industrialization from 1865 to 1920 that influenced U.S. society,
economy and politics. These are urbanization, working conditions and laissez faire government.
Urbanization created cities who offered large numbers of workers for new factories. In turn, more
factories were built. Workers, both native born and immigrants, moved to cities looking for jobs.
Industrialism and post industrialism let to a decline in patriarchy within the family because of the
changes that were made to society.
The birth of the Industrial Revolution had one staggering advantage, even to the most distanced and
skeptical farmer: a living could be made that was not subject to climate changes. Therefore, a man
could actually be assured of regular, dependable wages. This did not, however, translate into a vast
emigration of farmers to the new cities. An economy based upon agriculture is altogether distinct
from an industrial one. The former is dependent upon the unpredictable elements of nature and the
weather, the consequences of which could lead to ruin and famine. Indispensable to this growth and
development were an unprecedented surge in immigration and urbanization after the Civil War.
American society was in transition. The industrial revolution meant more money and wealth for the
upper classes, especially the owners of large companies. It was thought that the wealth would be
invested back into new factories, so the Americans accepted this wealth distribution.

The House On Mango Street Gender Essay
Girls and boys are entirely separate entities. That s what the protagonist of The House on Mango
Street believes. And it s true that Esperanza and her female peers experience adolescence very
differently than they would as males they are more vulnerable. Growing up means the painful
necessity to be on guard, and the sexual attention Esperanza receives from older men leads her to
feel helpless. Brought to light by the appearance of Sally, a popular friend, genderbased
objectification materializes over and over in Sandra Cisneros first novel. As a desire to be
desired cultivates in Esperanza s consciousness, she is forced to confront the trouble that comes
with being beautiful. The presence of Sally brings to the surface two prominent issues girls face
in society: a lack of control over their bodies and lives, and the subsequent pain that keeping up

Stereotypes In Upton Sinclair s The Jungle
Stereotypes exist everywhere, individuals stereotype others as well as themselves. Stereotypes
function in society as a perceived notion of a group of individuals based upon prior experience
from a select few people from aforementioned group. Stereotypes exist within literature as well;
stereotypes can be used to help personify individuals and make the best stock characters. The
stereotypeof a character can be used to better exemplify what people may or may not be really like.
In The Jungle by Upton Sinclair, Sinclair stereotypes immigrants to show their initial optimism,
ignorance and finally the realization of what life is really like.
Immigrants or foreigners are usually shown as being optimistic about coming to a new land,
especially with living the American Dream . Jurgis is telling others That is well enough for men
like you, he would say, silpnas, puny fellows but my back is broad (page 20). Jurgis is optimistic
that it would not hurt him, if he were to be beaten, but he is also a young individual with a lack of
true work. Like many others that were coming over to the United States during the time period,
their perceived notion of how work is in the United States is not the same as what is concurrently
occurring. Sinclair uses that opportunity to show how confident Jurgis is feeling about his working
ability and because he worked in Lithuania, it must be the same. Sinclair also uses a group of
foreigners being exposed to new experiences and sights. The

Bipolar I Disorder Research Paper
The National Institute of Mental Health describes bipolar I disorder as the occurrence of manic
episodes that can last up to seven days, or experiencing a state of mania so severe that one must
be hospitalized. With manic episodes, it is common to experience depressive symptoms as well,
which can last two weeks or more. The NIMH defines bipolar II disorder as a pattern of
depressive episodes with the addition of hypomanic episodes, which are not as intense and
distressing as the manic episodes in bipolar I disorder. During a manic episode one might be
experiencing feelings of having a lot of energy, feeling jumpy or wired, talking fast about a variety
of topics, racing thoughts, and wanting to do risky things. During an episode of depression,... Show

associated with schizophrenia. As mentioned previously, an overlap with symptoms has been

Looking Out For Payroll Check Cashing Near Me Essay
Title: Looking Out for Payroll Check Cashing Near Me Description There are different options
that you can sue when it comes to getting your payroll check cashed at an instant. It seems to be
quite normal for the employers to simply hate the paydays. This is because paydays involve a
lot of computing and counting. Computing the salaries of individual employees and providing
the right amount to each employee might cause a lot of confusion and it is also taxing. This is
the main reason why many employers like to go for payroll checks in place of providing hard
money or cash during the paydays. Employers do not have to take the burden of counting cash
with the payroll checks. However, it is to be noted that payroll checks do provide convenience to
the employers but they are a little challenging for the employees. This goes special for the
employees who are under banked or unbanked. Payroll check cashing gets very difficult for the
employees because of limited bank hours, different requirements and long lines. So, what is the
best option for payroll check cashing near me? Let us have a look below: Check Cashing Stores
There are a number of mom and pop stores available in the locality that can always be considered
as the best option of check cashing. However, these stores can be a little expensive. There are
some check cashers who can even impose a certain fee which is equal to the percentage of check
value. There are others who might charge a fee along with percentage fee. The

people were desirous of her.
1. Supporting Sentence: Miss Grierson was born into a prominent family the residents of her town

Emily s family was well known to everyone in that area. At one point in time, the Grierson family
may have been wealthy. The families past wealth and illustrious heritage would be enviable to
anyone who grew up less than rich or with odd family members. The fact that people wanted to
have a family like that of Miss Emily s served as a foundation for the jealousy of the people who
lived near her. In section one of the story, the town s people described Miss Grierson as a
hereditary obligation. The description of Miss Emily as a hereditary obligation can be perceived
in two different ways. The first suggested meaning of the phrase could be that since The Grierson
Family had been so distinguished in the past, people pay respect to Emily out of reverence for her
family. The second suggested meaning of the phrase could be that the people of the town, where
our main character lived, seen Emily as an obligation because of the taxes that she did not pay.
The use of hereditary in the second suggested meaning alludes to the fact that until Emily passed
away; each surviving generation would have to support her in a way, because she failed to pay her
taxes. The last example of how our main character s heritage created feelings of envy among the
residents in her town is the statement made after Mr. Grierson s death. When Mr. Grierson passed
away, the narrator of our story recalls that Emily seemed humanized , and relished the fact that she

Questions On The Prayer Of Jesus Christ And Subsequent...
INTRODUCTION Romans 5:1 to 11 is based on reconciliation though the death of Jesus Christ
and subsequent hope and blessings that follows with faith. In this essay, I will discuss the text
before the verses to provide context, the historical background behind the text, the literary
context, and the content. Lastly I will make an exegetical summary on what the text hopes to
accomplish, a theological witness explaining what the text reveals about God, and eventually
interpreting how it can be applied in our own lives. PERICOPE Chapter 4 gives examples of
people living in/ having faith since the beginning. Abraham had faith in God and God blessed
him. Paul then mentions that God blessed Abraham even when he was uncircumcised, a nod to
Gentile Christians, even though Circumcision was considered proof of faith. God rewards
Abraham s faith by letting his wife become pregnant at 100 years old. As Osborne explains, there
is a significant shift of focus between the two chapters; chapter four centering on the necessity
of faith for salvation while chapter five is on the effects of that salvation on the lives and
experiences of believers (Osborne 124). In the HCSB version, Paul uses transition phrase,
therefore, to move into chapter 5 to talk about the blessings of faith, how god shows his love
through Christ, making us at peace with God again. Stopping at verse 12 as it also begins with
transition phase and proceeds to explain sin and the necessity of God s grace. GENRE Romans

Nihilism and Existentialism in Cormac McCarthy s The Crossing
Nihilism and Existentialism in Cormac McCarthy s The Crossing
Cormac McCarthy s second book in The Border Trilogy offers an impressive array of worldviews
all competing together in the larger narrative framework of the novel. These are not only expressed
through the life of the protagonist Billy Parham and his brother Boyd, but also in the narratives of
the many people they encounter on their horseback journeys through the hot desert sands of
Mexico. Critic Robert L. Jarrett, associate professor of English at the University of Houston
Downtown, suggests the same in Cormac McCarthy, noting that Despite the claims of the ex priest

In his encyclopedic entry Nihilism, Dr. Alan Pratt, professor of Humanities at Embry Riddle
University, points to the passage in Shakespeare s Macbeth when she goes into her soliloquy about
the futility of life to demonstrate the stance of the existential nihilist in classic literature:
Out, out, brief candle!
Life s but a walking shadow, a poor player
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more; it is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing. (Qtd. in Pratt, para. 12.)
Other well known motifs that express the existential nihilist s perspective of life include the Greek
tale of Sisyphus, first noted by novelist Albert Camus in his 1942 book The Myth of Sisyphus.
Sisyphus was a cruel king in Corinth who was condemned to spend eternity rolling a huge boulder
up a mountain, knowing full well that once he reached the top it would again only come rumbling
back down, yet he shouldered his burden again and again, faithfully trudging back up the
mountainside in compliance with his fate. For the existential nihilist, the

Balkan War Research Paper
BACKGROUND.
Raised in all wars in the world is difficult to understand the roots of conflicts, simplifying, the
causes can be psychological, traditional or modern base. History is always present and is used as
a motivating force, along with others, in almost every war there are economic reasons as secondary
causes. In the Balkan War, it has historically been characterized by its high vulnerability to conflicts
of low, medium and high intensity, especially because of the events that took place during this
century, which have been decisive and marked conclusively the present conflict .
One of the main problems of this war is the ethno nationalism, which has led to the creation of states
identified with their national existence, by the refusal of the Political Marxist Leninist, for
alternative policies ranging from tolerance to ethnic minorities to debugging, the latter being forced
expulsion (minorities) of the disputed regions.
Similarly the search for new definitions of Nation in the absence of democratic and cultural
traditions in populations of states where ethnic groups are entitled to claim some territory.

Conscription Plebiscites
Were the 1916 17 conscription plebiscites only about reinforcing the Army in Europe? The
conscription plebiscites of 1916 17 were not only about reinforcing the Australian troops in Europe.
The Australian government did have the power to implement conscription without holding a
plebiscite. But in 1916 the Prime Minster, Billy Hughes, knew that introducing a bill to implement
conscription would not work, and would have serious consequences. It would not have had enough
support from the government, so it would not have passed through both houses of parliament, and
it would split the Labor Party that was in power at the time. A plebiscite, on the other hand, did
have support from both houses of parliament, and was seen by Hughes as the only way... Show

The issue of conscription had brought to light the divisions within Australian society and the
government. Irish Australians, Roman Catholics, many supporters of the Labor Party and pacifists
were anti conscription (Love 2013, p. 4). Many Irish Australians, especially Catholics, had turned
against the war due to the violent and brutal suppression of Irish nationalists by British and
Australian forces in the Easter Uprising in Ireland in 1916 (Kildea 2013, Love 2013, pp. 3 4). The
Australian Roman Catholic Church had close ties to the Labor Party and Irish communities and
stood with them against conscription (Hearn 2010). The Archbishop of Melbourne, Irish born
Daniel Mannix, who had been entirely against the war since its beginning, supported the anti
conscription movement, as well as the Catholic dominated anti conscription faction of the Labor
Party. Mannix was one of Hughes most prominent opponents in his struggle to introduce
conscription (Griffin 1986). On the other side, parts of Australian society were pro conscription,
such as pro imperialists, the Commonwealth Liberal Party, the right faction of the Labor Party and
the media (Love 2013, p. 4). Hughes wanted the plebiscites to bring to an end the divisions that had
been brought to light by the conscription

Hitchcock s Auteur Theory
The auteur theory commonly used within Hitchcock s limits his films from being seen within a
larger set of films that were produced during the same period, rather they are taken as part of a
collect as his work. This theory discourages the study of Hitchcock s films as part of a larger
grouping or style such as filmnoir. Hitchcock s Strangers on a Train (1951) fills both the roles of a
film noir and a Hitchcockian thriller, leading to the conclusion that the genres or film types share
more than they diverge. The tradition of film noir stems from French film critics post World War II
where, due to the influx of four years worth of American films entering their cinemas at the same
time, they drew connections between the films styles and content.... Show more content on

Visual tropes include the use of camera angles and lighting. For example, Dutch angles or scene
where the grid of the camera fail to line of with a grid onscreen creating a sense of unease
became prevalent along with unusual shots like filming a scene from behind. Dutch angles
come from a history of Weimar expressionism that continued into the film noir visual lexicon as a
way to create unease or tension onscreen. Within Strangers on a Train, Dutch angles are used to
show the tension that the scene merits. For example, when Guy Haines (Farley Granger) sneaks
down the hall of Bruno Antony s (Robert Walker) house the camera tilts to the left. Strangers on
a Train also makes use of the characteristic night scenes or low lighting of the film noir style.
During the murder of Miriam (Kasey Roger), Hitchcock makes use of the night setting at the
carnival to create a dark, low lit sequence that leads up to and portrays Bruno s crime. Many key
scenes of the movie take place at night including the moment of the murder, Bruno s confession
to Guy, Guy s confrontation with Bruno, and the final chase scene at the carnival where the
truth is finally revealed to everyone. In the scene depicting Bruno s confession and entrapment
of Guy, Bruno leads Guy behind a gate that cast a shadow of bars onto their faces in the low
light. This fulfills another film noir trope of creating bars of light to implicate or show guilt,
usually done using venetian blinds. The movie also uses mirrors or reflections to portray different
scenes throughout the film. For instance, the viewer witnesses part of the murder in the reflection
of Miriam s glasses and later on again in Barbara s glasses as Bruno strangles a woman at the
party. Bruno also wears very distinctive fashion or style, especially in the opening scene that
compares his clothing to that of Guy. The shot for shot comparison starts

July Crisis Dbq
The First World War began in Europe, but by the end of it, the United States had joined. Once
involved, President Woodrow Wilson had a huge effect on drawing new country lines. His
decision was influenced by how the war began, as a cry to have states independent from an
empire, based on ethnicities to avoid alliances similar to what started this war. This global and total
war was the first of its kind, which began in Europefrom the assassination of Austria Hungary s
heir to the throne, Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife by Gavrillo Princip in Sarajevo. This
local conflict quickly grew out of control due to alliances across European countries and
aggressive rulers and developed into what is now known as the July Crisis . In the four years
that this war was ongoing, the United States only participated in the last two and made a major
and lasting impact on Europe. The United States, led by President Woodrow Wilson, would be one

Reflective Essay On The Writing Process
The writing process of pre writing, drafting, revising and publishing has helped me to become
proficient in my writing. After applying the writing process method, I can break down my writing
into manageable chunks and focus on delivering quality material. I believe that my writing
dramatically depends on my attitude, motivation and engagement as I have gathered that the writing
process takes these components into account by allowing me to plan my writing and create a
publishable, final draftof my work of which I can be satisfied. It addresses my need for a real
audience and to take the time to draft and redraft my work.
I have learned many things about the writing process. I ve learned how to recognise my mistakes
by revising texts and that sharing with other writers is rewarding and offers challenges. I ve
identified the high level of experienced and the quality writings achieved when following each
method, the simplicity of this process and that it takes time and patience to build a well structured
text. I have also learned that it is okay to make errors in a first draft and as beginner writers, these
errors teach us a lot as learners, and it improves our overall future writing abilities. To put it simply,
although I have the tools for creating well regulated writing content, I acknowledge that it will take
considerable practice before each writing method is approached positively and confidently in my
ability to produce writings with exceptional strength and achievement.
These learning attributes have been represented in my creative writing many times. Learning about
how simple the writing process makes for excellent writing allowed me to structure my response
without notable difficulty or confusion. It involved taking steps to brainstorm my ideas and
organising key points for the relevant subject addressed within my response. It also allowed me
to showcase ideas by the expansion of my writing efficiently. When I learned how sharing my
work with others can improve my writing by their use of proving me with quality feedback, I was
able to adjust my work according to my peers and tutors own critical review of my detailed
response. Following the editing of my response, I became aware of how many errors

  • 2. Adam Lanza and Sandy Hook Elementary How could one deranged man voluntarily walk into an elementary school and open fire on children who haven t even had all their teeth come in yet? Newtown, Connecticut is like any other small suburban town; quiet, quaint and safe. That was until a twenty four year old sociopath (Alexander, Barrett, Donnelly, Swaine), by the name of Adam Lanza, put this charming town on the map, and not for a decent notable reason. Sandy HookElementary School educates students grades kindergarten through fifth and Lanza forced his way into the kindergarten and first grade level rooms. Friday, December 14, 2012 will forever be a date not necessarily marked on our calendars, but in our hearts. While millions of Americans continued their normal routines, innocent children s lives, as well as a handful of heroic teachers, were taken away in a matter of seconds, since each victim was shot three to eleven times, according to medical examiner, H. Wayne Carver (Circa Part 4). Superintendent Janet Robinson commented, A lot of children are alive today because of actions the teachers took. (Circa Part 10) A total of twenty six individuals were tragically murdered because why? That answer will never be answered since Lanza committed suicide at the scene as policewere on their way, which leaves no closure for the victims family and friends. The Newtown, Connecticutshooting caused an increased in protection at schools by implementing new gun laws and changing America s views about the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Shoulder Replacement Versus Traditional Hip Replacement Essay Hip Replacement Versus Traditional Hip Replacement The continuous aging of the human body combined with the stress of physical activities create a repeated stress on the joints of our bodies that carry the potential risk of developing osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is one of the most common forms of arthritis that is the worsening of the joints occurring particularly in the hands, knees, and hip. Osteoarthritis occurs primarily with elderly individuals who have severely worsened their joints leading to disability. When studying joint deterioration radiographic signs of OA include joint space narrowing, subchondral bonesclerosis, and osteophyte formation (Bennell, Poquet, Williams, 2016, P. 1689). These signs prove detrimental for some individuals who begin to suffer severe pain leading to the inability of performing simple tasks such as writing and/or walking. Hip disabilities are especially common as a result of osteoarthritis, leaving individuals with several choices of treatment. Whether it s physical therapy, exercise, or taking medicine, these options might not prove helpful depending on the severity of the hip joint. In this essay, I will be comparing minimally invasive hip replacementto traditional hip replacement to determine why someone need s a hip replacement procedure, which option more favorable, and the physical therapy following post replacement. The gradual wear and tear that is put on the joints of our human body causes cartilage to begin to gradually ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Drug Use Is Not Something That Just Happens Overnight Drug use is not something that just happens overnight. There are many things that led up to a person deciding they want to try a drug for the first time. It might be that they were exposed to it at an early age and perceived it to be the norm to use them. They might have experienced peer pressure at a party or just wanted to fit in with a certain crowd. Or they may have gotten a prescription for one and liked the high they felt when they were on it so they wanted to find a way to continue feeling that same high. Each situation is different, and the drugs that were most likely used in each scenario are also going to be different. A drug that is rather common for someone to be exposed to from an early age is cocaine. Cocaine is classified... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then the coca paste is dissolved in a small amount of dilute sulfuric acid and potassium permanganate is added (How Cocaine Is Made. (n.d.). When cocaine is in this form it is most often snorted or mixed with water and injected into the blood stream. The high people get from cocaine use does not last very long, which is what causes them to binge use, and why addiction can be caused so quickly. The user is constantly chasing that initial high and wanting it to last longer. Cocaine is a strong central nervous system stimulant that increases levels of the neurotransmitter dopamine in brain circuits regulating pleasure and movement (Cocaine (2013, April). It can also cause bursts of energy, talkativeness, increased heart rate and blood pressure, dilated pupils, and increased body temperature. The most serious side effect can be death if the manufacturing process was not done correctly. Learning theory is probably the best explanation as to why one would chose to use cocaine. Cocaine produces a high that can be rewarding because of the euphoria it produces. When the high wears off the user experiences a crash and wants the high back. They have learned through continued use that in order to get the euphoric feeling they must continue to use the drug. • 6. President Of The United States His power, his passion, is the fabric of America. And it s woven by work ethic and dreams and drive and faith in the Almighty, what a combination. (S, Palin) Donald Trump is powerful, persuasive and risky. As a candidate for President of the United States, Trump stands strong to purported morals. His campaign video depicts him as the ultimate candidate ; an individual is who has the ability to stand up for middle class American s yet be strong enough to institute change, which the Obama administration has been perceived as failing to do. However we are also able to see how Trump has used his power to shape his ideal self into something he is not. Someone who uses codes and signifiers in his favour to fabricate new ideas and conventions. Donald Trump has a strident voice, but those who stand with him appear silent in stark contrast. The reason for this being that Trump s campaign, even down to his fan base, is centred on oppression. His goal is to appeal to middle class, white citizens who feel that they have been deprived of the American Dream. That is; the ideal that every US citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative (Oxford Dictionaries). He targets this subgroup and directs their resentment to the people who have tarnished this American Dream . • 13. Analysis Of The Poem Bacchus Discovering Ariadne Jacob Jordaens, Bacchus Discovering Ariadne, late 1640 s This painting that I have found while venturing the Museum of Fine Arts has definitely caught my eye for infinite reasons. Bacchus Discovering Ariadne by Jacob Jordaens was definitely a painting that has a story, but the thing is, there isn t much about it, which is a challenge. Most of the focus in this painting is set on Ariadne and the meeting between her and Bacchus. Not only that but the painting, and all other paintings associated with this myth, focus on the shift from divine perfection to humanity that is found in Renaissance and Baroque artwork. The oil painting made by Jacob Jordaens tells the story of Ariadne, the princess of Crete, being deserted on the Island of Naxos by Theseus, the Athenian prince who she helped escape from her father s labyrinth. Bacchus, whom is the god of wine, and his satyrs discover her, and he falls in love with Ariadne. As a testimony of his devotion he holds up her crown, which he will then toss into the heavens to create a constellation in her honor. In this painting he shows Ariadne as an extremely feminine figure that s not only fair but regarded as beautiful The body of Bacchus is sculpted showing the muscles in his legs and throughout the rest of his body. But the contrast in this painting is striking. The contrast of this painting lies between the structural elements of Bacchus and of the three satyrs that have accompanied him. These satyrs are in dim lighting and less ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to local legend, those who came in contact with the tree, especially anyone who did harm to the Devil Tree, had dire consequences. Cursed! exclaimed the men and women of the city. They may have been right, as it seems generations of people already lay dead due to the Devil Tree. As time went on the old tree was finally cut down. The tree was cut into building wood and later built into a house, and like the tree, the house was alive. It had memory and most importantly it had hunger. Over many more generations the house passed from owner to owner until one year, an unordinary couple bought the house. The Hatman s lived in the house for five years during the 80s without moving out. People in the city became curious, specifically one person: Dr. Toboggan. He had lived next door to the house for fifteen years and heard all the horrible things that had happened inside the house. Now even though he still hears the noises he sees the Hatman s get their mail every day. One day he saw the Hatman s bring something into their house and it moved and jerked back and forth. • 17. Erich Remarque s The Red Badge Of Courage Essay Erich Remarque A. Wheen John Groth Printed at the Spiral Press for the individuals from the Limited Editions Club 1969. Looked into By, Michael Anderson, Shepherd University. Erich Maria Remarque was conceived in Osnabruck, Germany, in 1898 into a lower working class family. In 1916, he was drafted into the German armed force to battle in World War I , in which he was gravely injured. Ten years after the war finished, he distributed I m Western Nights Neuse, converted into English a year later as All Quiet on the Western Front, a novel about the encounters of conventional German fighters amid the war. In spite of the fact that different books, most strikingly Stephen Crane s The Red Badge of Courage (1895), had investigated the viciousness and severity of war in a sensible light, the abstract convention of war stories still tended overwhelmingly toward romanticized beliefs of eminence, enterprise, and respect. In introducing his dismally reasonable variant of an officer s experience, Remarque stripped the common sentimentalism from the war story in the staunchly antiwar All Quiet on the Western Front. The novel immediately turned into a universal, widely praised achievement. An American motion picture in light of the book was discharged in 1930. After Adolf Hitler s ascent to control in Germany in the mid 1930s, the furiously nationalistic Nazi administration assaulted All Quiet on the Western Front and Remarque as unpatriotic. • 21. An Intimate View Of Imagery Of Langston Hughes Dream... An Intimate View of the Imagery in Langston Hughes Dream Deferred America is built on a dream, the idea that anyone has the opportunity for prosperity, success, and an upward social mobility when they work hard. This dream is a siren call to America s shores for millions of people from across the world looking to forge a better life. Unfortunately, this dream seems to elude Blacks in America. The elusiveness of this dream is not because Blacks do not want to succeed or have the hunger to achieve their goals but because extraneous forces often causes it to be out of reach and ultimately deferred. But What happens to a dream deferred? in Langston Hughes seminal poem Dream Deferred the use of vivid imagery shows the regret, sadness, and the danger of forgotten dreams. The beauty of a dream is unrivaled; a dream can snatch 13 colonies from under the tyrannical thumb of a Queen or rouse millions of people to descend on the National Mall to hear a reverend from Atlanta speak of equality. Dreams are succulent like a grape but what happens when unattended? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun? This image elicits regret, a once inviting fruit is now dried, withered, and less appealing. The sun (outside influences) have taken away what made the grape beautiful and replaced that attractiveness with a vison of what could have been. Though that raisin can still provide sustenance, just as a janitor still provides for their family, the janitor s dream of becoming an artist ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Furthermore, he shows that as soon as the ruling class finds a more profitable way to make money, their attitudes would change regardless of the concerns of the working class. He also points out that the sailors knew that these wars were fought, for the most part, over wealth, a substantial portion of which was based on the key commodities of the Atlantic trades in which he worked gold, silver, fish, furs, servants and slaves, sugar, tobacco, and manufactures (Rediker 21). Once privateering was outlawed, and combined with the downsizing of European navies, many sailors found themselves out of work. This led to the rise of piracy, and in my opinion directly challenged the notion that European empires were strong and powerful. Piracy could be viewed a war on the rich, where men who saw no other economic opportunity choose to steal from whom they used to work for. During the golden age of piracy between 1716 and 1726, according to Rediker around 2400 ships were captured. European countries could do little as their navies were reduced in size after the War of Spanish Secession. The capturing and sometimes burning of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

More often than not it seems cheerleaders do not receive the respect they deserve for all that they do. • 27. Melting Point And Boling Point Introduction: Melting point and Boling point are two fundamental physical properties that are commonly used to identify unknown compounds, to verify already known compounds, and to determine the purity of compounds.2 If the compound is a solid, the procedure for melting point determination is followed. However, if it is a liquida boiling point technique must be performed, such as distillation or refluxing.2 The melting point determination consists of five major steps: obtain the sample and make sure it is grinded, fill 2 3 capillary tubes with the sample, ensure that the sample is tightly packed, insert the tubes into the Melting Point Apparatus to run a fast and a slow ramp, and finally record the data.3 Grinding the sample could be done by several methods. A large stainless steel spatula could be used to directly crush the tiny crystals into fine powder, or the sample could be first placed within a folded piece of filter paper and then pressed with the spatula.2 A mortar and pestle are also an appropriate instrument to grind the sample.4 Next, the adequate amount of sample, which is 1 2mm, should be collected with each capillary tube.2 If less sample is collected, it is much harder to see when the first and last droplets form, making it difficult for the chemist to record melting range temperatures.6 If the capillary tubes are filled with larger sample, this could cause uneven heating during the fast and slow ramps and could also provide inaccurate melting range that is ... • 28. Hip Hop Music And African American Oral Traditions In order to understand hip hop dance, it is important to recognize hip hop music and where it came from. Many scholars of rap music relate the founding of rap to African and African American oral and musical traditions, specifically African griots and storytellers. They link the rhythm of rap to the use of drums in Africa and to African Americanmusic in the United States, from slave songs and spirituals to jazz and R B. Scholars have found very interesting connections between rap music and Black nationalist traditions (traditions historically practiced by black people that serve as part of their racial identity). Rap is similar to the call and response of the black church, the joy and pain of the blues, the jive talk and slang of the hipsters and jazz musicians, the boasting of street talk, the sidesplitting humor of comedians, and the articulateness of black activists. All of these African American oral traditions, including rap, can be traced back to West African oral traditions. In traditional African societies, the spoken word and oral culture included poetry, storytelling, and speaking to drumbeats. The links between rap music and African American oral and musical traditions demonstrate that hip hop music represents more than just sound. It represents history. This aspect of it, in my opinion, makes this type of music very unique and makes it carry more value. Rap music officially started in 1978 in the Bronx, New York. These are urbanization, working conditions and laissez faire government. Urbanization created cities who offered large numbers of workers for new factories. In turn, more factories were built. Workers, both native born and immigrants, moved to cities looking for jobs. Industrialism and post industrialism let to a decline in patriarchy within the family because of the changes that were made to society. The birth of the Industrial Revolution had one staggering advantage, even to the most distanced and skeptical farmer: a living could be made that was not subject to climate changes. Therefore, a man could actually be assured of regular, dependable wages. This did not, however, translate into a vast emigration of farmers to the new cities. An economy based upon agriculture is altogether distinct from an industrial one. The former is dependent upon the unpredictable elements of nature and the weather, the consequences of which could lead to ruin and famine. Indispensable to this growth and development were an unprecedented surge in immigration and urbanization after the Civil War. American society was in transition. The industrial revolution meant more money and wealth for the upper classes, especially the owners of large companies. It was thought that the wealth would be invested back into new factories, so the Americans accepted this wealth distribution. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In section one of the story, the town s people described Miss Grierson as a hereditary obligation. The description of Miss Emily as a hereditary obligation can be perceived in two different ways. The first suggested meaning of the phrase could be that since The Grierson Family had been so distinguished in the past, people pay respect to Emily out of reverence for her family. The second suggested meaning of the phrase could be that the people of the town, where our main character lived, seen Emily as an obligation because of the taxes that she did not pay. The use of hereditary in the second suggested meaning alludes to the fact that until Emily passed away; each surviving generation would have to support her in a way, because she failed to pay her taxes. INTRODUCTION Romans 5:1 to 11 is based on reconciliation though the death of Jesus Christ and subsequent hope and blessings that follows with faith. In this essay, I will discuss the text before the verses to provide context, the historical background behind the text, the literary context, and the content. Lastly I will make an exegetical summary on what the text hopes to accomplish, a theological witness explaining what the text reveals about God, and eventually interpreting how it can be applied in our own lives. PERICOPE Chapter 4 gives examples of people living in/ having faith since the beginning. Abraham had faith in God and God blessed him. Paul then mentions that God blessed Abraham even when he was uncircumcised, a nod to Gentile Christians, even though Circumcision was considered proof of faith. God rewards Abraham s faith by letting his wife become pregnant at 100 years old. As Osborne explains, there is a significant shift of focus between the two chapters; chapter four centering on the necessity of faith for salvation while chapter five is on the effects of that salvation on the lives and experiences of believers (Osborne 124). In the HCSB version, Paul uses transition phrase, therefore, to move into chapter 5 to talk about the blessings of faith, how god shows his love through Christ, making us at peace with God again. Stopping at verse 12 as it also begins with transition phase and proceeds to explain sin and the necessity of God s grace. GENRE Romans ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the Balkan War, it has historically been characterized by its high vulnerability to conflicts of low, medium and high intensity, especially because of the events that took place during this century, which have been decisive and marked conclusively the present conflict . But in 1916 the Prime Minster, Billy Hughes, knew that introducing a bill to implement conscription would not work, and would have serious consequences. Hitchcock s Auteur Theory The auteur theory commonly used within Hitchcock s limits his films from being seen within a larger set of films that were produced during the same period, rather they are taken as part of a collect as his work. This theory discourages the study of Hitchcock s films as part of a larger grouping or style such as filmnoir. Hitchcock s Strangers on a Train (1951) fills both the roles of a film noir and a Hitchcockian thriller, leading to the conclusion that the genres or film types share more than they diverge. The tradition of film noir stems from French film critics post World War II where, due to the influx of four years worth of American films entering their cinemas at the same time, they drew connections between the films styles and content.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Visual tropes include the use of camera angles and lighting. For example, Dutch angles or scene where the grid of the camera fail to line of with a grid onscreen creating a sense of unease became prevalent along with unusual shots like filming a scene from behind. Dutch angles come from a history of Weimar expressionism that continued into the film noir visual lexicon as a way to create unease or tension onscreen. Within Strangers on a Train, Dutch angles are used to show the tension that the scene merits. For example, when Guy Haines (Farley Granger) sneaks down the hall of Bruno Antony s (Robert Walker) house the camera tilts to the left. Strangers on a Train also makes use of the characteristic night scenes or low lighting of the film noir style. During the murder of Miriam (Kasey Roger), Hitchcock makes use of the night setting at the carnival to create a dark, low lit sequence that leads up to and portrays Bruno s crime. Many key scenes of the movie take place at night including the moment of the murder, Bruno s confession to Guy, Guy s confrontation with Bruno, and the final chase scene at the carnival where the truth is finally revealed to everyone. In the scene depicting Bruno s confession and entrapment of Guy, Bruno leads Guy behind a gate that cast a shadow of bars onto their faces in the low light. This fulfills another film noir trope of creating bars of light to implicate or show guilt, usually done using venetian blinds. The movie also uses mirrors or reflections to portray different scenes throughout the film. For instance, the viewer witnesses part of the murder in the reflection of Miriam s glasses and later on again in Barbara s glasses as Bruno strangles a woman at the party.
