San Francisco, Kansas City battle for Vince Lombardi Trophy in Super Bowl LVIII Sunday
LAS VEGAS -— Feb. 5, 2024 — PATRICK MAHOMES and BROCK PURDY were both in elementary school the last time an NFL
team won consecutive Super Bowls.
When New England defeated Philadelphia on Feb. 6, 2005, to secure a second straight title in Super Bowl XXXIX, ANDY REID was on
the Eagles’ sideline in a 24-21 loss. This time, Reid, Mahomes and the Chiefs have an opportunity to break the longest stretch of
seasons without a repeat champion in NFL history. There were eight repeat winners over the first 39 Super Bowls, but none over the
last 18.
Nineteen years ago, KYLE SHANAHAN had just ended his first season as an NFL assistant coach with Tampa Bay. And after watching
his father, Mike, win consecutive Super Bowls (1997-98) as head coach of the Denver Broncos, the younger Shanahan with a victory
this week would make that father-son tandem the first such duo in NFL annals to win Super Bowls as head coaches.
CHRISTIAN McCAFFREY’s dad, Ed, was a wide receiver on each of those Broncos teams and he also earned a ring in San
Francisco’s last Super Bowl-winning season, 1994, when Mike Shanahan was the 49ers’ offensive coordinator. Could the Shanahans
and McCaffreys create a remarkable generational milestone this week?
Not if CHRIS JONES and the vaunted Chiefs defense has their way. And not if Mahomes can capture his third Super Bowl victory,
something only four previous quarterbacks have accomplished: TOM BRADY (seven) and Pro Football Hall of Famers TERRY
BRADSHAW (four), JOE MONTANA (four) and TROY AIKMAN (three).

The Starting 11 entering Super Bowl LVIII…
1. SOMETHING’S GOTTA GIVE: Since Allegiant Stadium opened in 2020, the Chiefs and 49ers are a combined 5-0 at the facility.
Kansas City is 4-0 all-time in Las Vegas, including a Week 12 victory over the Raiders earlier this season. The 49ers, meanwhile, won
their only regular-season game at the stadium, a 37-34 overtime triumph over Las Vegas in Week 17 of the 2022 season.
2. NUMBER OF THE WEEK – 11: The number of Pro Bowl selections, including 2023, earned by 49ers tackle TRENT WILLIAMS
prior to playing in his first Super Bowl this week. Only three other players – Pro Football Hall of Famers CHAMP BAILEY (12), BRUCE
MATTHEWS (12) and REGGIE WHITE (11) – earned as many Pro Bowl selections prior to playing in their first Super Bowls.

2. 3. LEGENDARY PACE: Kansas City’s PATRICK MAHOMES at age 28 will become the youngest quarterback in history to start a
fourth Super Bowl, two years faster than the previous youngest, 30-year-old TOM BRADY in 2007. With a victory, Mahomes would join
Brady and Pro Football Hall of Famer TROY AIKMAN as the only quarterbacks ever to win three Super Bowls prior to their 30th
birthdays.
4. SPOTLIGHT – INDIVIDUAL MATCHUP: The key to victory in Super Bowl LVIII could be in the middle of the field. When the
nearest defender was a linebacker, Kansas City’s TRAVIS KELCE led all NFL tight ends during the regular season with 393 receiving
yards, according to Next Gen Stats. Meanwhile, San Francisco’s FRED WARNER allowed only a 61.9 passer rating as the nearest
defender in coverage this season, lowest among NFL linebackers per NGS.
5. SPOTLIGHT – TEAM MATCHUP: Sunday features one of the best defensive matchups in Super Bowl history. During the regular
season, Kansas City allowed just 17.3 points per game, second in the league behind Baltimore. San Francisco’s defense (17.5) ranked
third.
6. STREAK SPEAK: Kansas City moved quickly to hire ANDY REID as head coach on Jan. 7, 2013. Since that day, over 11 seasons,
the Chiefs have not experienced a losing campaign. No other NFL team has an active streak of winning seasons longer than five years.
Reid has led his team to Super Bowls in four of the past five seasons after the franchise went 49 straight years (1970-2018) without a
Super Bowl berth.
7. DID YOU KNOW?: Niners running back CHRISTIAN MCCAFFREY and Pro Football Hall of Famer TERRELL DAVIS are the only
players in league annals to average at least 110 scrimmage yards per game in both the regular season and postseason (minimum 75
and five games, respectively).
8. UNDER-THE-RADAR STORYLINE: Middle Tennessee State in Murfreesboro, Tenn., has produced three players expected to see
action in Super Bowl LVIII: Chiefs linebacker DARIUS HARRIS and wide receiver RICHIE JAMES, and 49ers cornerback
CHARVARIUS WARD. In fact, this week marks the fifth consecutive season in which an MTSU product will don a Super Bowl uniform.
James and Ward actually played for the opposite teams in Super Bowl LIV, James for the 49ers and Ward for the Chiefs. Ward made
his way to Murfreesboro in serendipitous fashion. The MTSU defensive backs coach, Steve Ellis, was on a recruiting trip at Hinds
(Miss.) Community College when he discovered Ward, who caught the attention of Ellis when the 155-pound athlete delivered a
monster dunk in a pickup basketball game. Ward used MTSU as a springboard to the NFL, where he led the league with 23 passes
defensed and earned his first Pro Bowl selection this season.
9. TREND TIME: San Francisco quarterback BROCK PURDY entered the league as the final choice in the 2022 NFL Draft, held in Las
Vegas. Since that day, Purdy has an .808 winning percentage as a starter, has passed for 9.2 yards per attempt, has compiled a 47-14
touchdown-to-interception ratio and owns a 111.2 passer rating – all the best marks in the NFL among quarterbacks with a minimum of
20 starts (including the postseason).
10. NEXT GEN STAT OF THE WEEK: San Francisco wide receiver BRANDON AIYUK entered the NFL and joined the 49ers in the
first round of a virtual 2020 NFL Draft less than three months after they lost to Kansas City in Super Bowl LIV. Fast forward three years
to the 2023 NFC Championship Game. With 6:29 remaining in the third quarter and the 49ers trailing, 24-10, Aiyuk kept his focus in
tracking a deflected deep ball and hauled in a 51-yard reception at the Lions’ 6-yard line. According to Next Gen Stats, Aiyuk traveled
10.3 yards while securing that completion. Three plays later, he caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from BROCK PURDY to cut the
Detroit lead to one score. Inspired by Aiyuk’s miraculous catch, San Francisco went on to win, 34-31.
11. AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST: Kansas City’s ISIAH PACHECO is expected to become the first running back since Pro Football Hall
of Famer TONY DORSETT in 1977-78 to start Super Bowls in each of his first two NFL seasons. The Chiefs selected Pacheco 251st
overall, 11 picks before BROCK PURDY (262nd), in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Like Purdy, Pacheco’s name was
announced at a podium in Las Vegas.

SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS TEAM NOTES
The San Francisco 49ers return to the Super Bowl for the
eighth time in franchise history and the first time since the 2019
season as they travel to Las Vegas, NV, to take on the Kansas
City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII. The 49ers, who are five-time
Super Bowl champions (XVI, XIX, XXIII, XXIV & XXIX), look to
tie the New England Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers for
the most Super Bowl wins in NFL history. The 49ers are
coming off a 34-31 victory against the Detroit Lions in the NFC
Championship Game, marking the 38th playoff win for the
franchise, the most in NFL history. QB Brock Purdy led the
offense by completing 20 of his 31 passing attempts for 267
yards and one touchdown to WR Brandon Aiyuk, who tallied
three catches for 68 yards on the evening. RB Christian
McCaffrey registered 132 yards from scrimmage and two
rushing touchdowns, while RB Elijah Mitchell added four
carries and a three-yard rushing touchdown. On defense, the
49ers were led by DL Nick Bosa, who tallied two sacks of Lions
QB Jared Goff. LB Fred Warner added a team-high 13 tackles
on the evening, bringing his career postseason total to 84
tackles, which is the most tackles in postseason franchise
history.
• The 49ers finished the 2023 regular season with an average
time of possession of 31:08, ranking 2nd in the NFL (Cle. -
32:19).
KANSAS CITY CHIEFS TEAM NOTES
The Chiefs will kick off Super Bowl LVIII against the 49ers at
Allegiant Stadium on Sunday, Feb. 11 at 5:30 p.m. CT. KC
looks to become the first team since the 2003-04 Patriots to
win back-to-back titles. Last week, the Chiefs defeated the
Ravens 17-10 in Baltimore in their sixth-straight AFC
Championship Game (first in that stretch on the road).This
season the Chiefs clinched their eighth-straight AFC West
Division title, the second-longest streak in NFL history (NE -
11, 2009-19).
Over the last five seasons, the Chiefs have played in four
Super Bowls (LIV, LV, LVII and LVIII). Kansas City hosted a
record five-straight AFC Championship Games at GEHA Field
at Arrowhead Stadium (2018-22). Since 2015, Kansas City has
tallied a 46-8 record (.852) against AFC West opponents, the
NFL’s best divisional record over a nine-year span since
divisional realignment in 2002. Under Head Coach Andy Reid,
KC has qualified for the postseason 10 times in 11 seasons
and has ten 10+ win seasons. Reid owns 283 career victories
(regular and postseason combined). He ranks fourth on the
NFL’s all-time wins list. His 128 regular season wins in KC are
most all-time in Chiefs history. He's the only head coach in
NFL history to be the all-time wins leader for two franchises
(130 wins in Philadelphia).

DID YOU KNOW…Over the last five seasons (2019-23), the
49ers have scored 111 rushing TDs, which is tied for the most
in the NFL over that span (Phi. - 111). The 49ers scored 27
rushing TDs in 2023, which was tied for the most in the NFL
(Det. - 27; Mia. - 27). Over the last three seasons (2021-23),
the 49ers have an average passer rating of 103.8, which ranks

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is finishing his sixth season as the
club’s starting quarterback. As the starter, Mahomes has led
the team to six-consecutive AFC Championship Games, four
Super Bowl appearances and earned NFL MVP (2018, 2022)
and Super Bowl MVP honors (2019, 2022). Mahomes has
defeated all 31 teams in the NFL, the youngest QB to reach
that milestone. Since 2018, he leads the league in yards
(28,140), touchdowns (219), 25+ yard completions (237) and
first down throws (1,389). With only 62 interceptions (since
2018), he owns a +157 TD/INT ratio, the highest mark of any
active QB in that span. He owns 45 career games of 300+
passing yards. TE Travis Kelce recorded an NFL record seven-
straight 1,000-yard receiving seasons from 2016-22 (984 yards
in 2023). He owns 37 games with 100+ receiving yards (most
in NFL history for a tight end) and has caught at least one pass
in 179 consecutive games (reg. and postseason). Since
entering the NFL in 2013, Kelce leads all tight ends in receiving
yards (11,328) and receptions (907). He ranks first in
touchdowns (74) and catches of 25+ yards (86). Defensively in
2023, the Chiefs ranked second in the NFL in offensive points
allowed (15.9 ppg). DE George Karlaftis and DT Chris Jones
each led the team with 10.5 sacks. The 2023 Chiefs featured
several new faces including two new tackles, Jawaan Taylor
(RT) and Donovan Smith (LT). The club drafted DE Felix
Anudike-Uzomah in the first round (31st overall) and WR
Rashee Rice in the second round (55th overall) of the 2023
NFL Draft held in Kansas City. For the first time in six seasons
the Chiefs had a new offensive coordinator. OC Matt Nagy took
on that role for the club after serving in that same capacity from
2016-17. The combined 2022 record of Kansas City’s 2023
home and away opponents was 147-140-0 (.512).
CHIEFS WITH SUPER BOWL AND PLAYOFF EXPERIENCE
There are 39 players on the 2023 Chiefs roster that have been
a part of a Super Bowl in their careers, 18 of which have been
to at least two Super Bowls. 35 players on the roster have
been a part of a Chiefs’ Super Bowl; eight of which were here
for the runs in 2019, 2020 and 2022 and 10 were with the
Chiefs when they played the 49ers in Super Bowl LIV. Six
players have been to a Super Bowl with another team, five of
them faced the Chiefs in the 2019 or 2020 Super Bowl.
Chiefs TE Travis Kelce and Chiefs LS James Winchester, who
both recorded their 21st career postseason game played with
an appearance in the AFC Championship Game, extending the
Chiefs franchise record for most career playoff appearances.
Entering the 2023 NFL Playoffs, 40 players on Kansas City’s
roster had appeared in a playoff game. In total, those 40
players accounted for 287 total postseason game appearances
and have accumulated 147 total playoff starts entering the
playoffs.
A PLAYOFF LEADER
Head Coach Andy Reid has the second-most wins (25) as a
Head Coach in NFL postseason history. Reid is also the only
head coach in NFL history to have five-plus postseason wins
with multiple franchises (15-7 with Chiefs, 10-8 with Eagles).
He is one of just four head coaches to reach the Super Bowl
five times, is one of 14 head coaches to win multiple Super
Bowl Championships (LIV, LVII) and has a chance to become
the fifth head coach to win at least three Super Bowls.

5. Brazil to Host the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday Night of Week 1 of the 2024 NFL Regular Season
Hosted in São Paulo, Brazil, Philadelphia Eagles Designated to Play in Historic First Regular Season Game in South America
First Time the NFL has Played a Friday Night Game on Opening Weekend in Over 50 Years
LAS VEGAS — Feb. 5, 2024 — The National Football League today announced that the Philadelphia Eagles will play as the
designated team in the historic first-ever regular season game in Brazil, as part of the 2024 International Games. In another first, the
game will be played on Friday, Sept. 6, 2024, the first time the NFL has played a game on Friday night of their opening weekend in over
50 years (Cardinals at Rams, Sept. 18, 1970).
The game will take place in the city of São Paulo at the Corinthians Arena, home to Brazilian soccer team SC Corinthians. The stadium
was an official venue for both the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games. The Eagles' opponent, along with the kickoff time,
will be announced closer to when the 2024 NFL schedule is revealed this spring.
“This landmark first international game in South America demonstrates the ongoing expansion of our global footprint," said NFL
Commissioner Roger Goodell. “Playing on Friday night of Week 1 is a unique way to highlight our international growth and ambitions."
“The Eagles organization is honored to have been selected to play in the first-ever National Football League game in South America,"
said Jeffrey Lurie, Philadelphia Eagles chairman and chief executive officer. “With the global growth of our sport being a top priority to

sport and entertainment events."

6. Five regular season games will be played as part of the 2024 NFL International Games, including the game in São Paulo, Brazil, with
the designated teams for the Europe slate already announced.
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London — the only purpose-built NFL stadium outside of the U.S. — will host games featuring both the
Chicago Bears and the Minnesota Vikings, while the Jacksonville Jaguars will return to Wembley Stadium as part of their multi-year
commitment to playing a game in the U.K., in what will be their 12th game in the capital.
Munich, Germany, will again host a regular season game, with the Carolina Panthers set to play in Allianz Arena — home of FC Bayern
Munich.
With the game in South America, the NFL will have played a game (preseason or regular season) in five of the seven continents around
the world.
Each team's opponent, along with the dates and kickoff times will be announced closer to when the 2024 schedule is revealed this
spring.
Following the expansion of the NFL schedule in 2021, up to four of the teams from the conference whose teams are eligible for a ninth
regular-season home game were designated to play a neutral-site international game each year.
In 2023, NFL clubs voted to increase league-operated international game inventory from four (4) to up to eight (8) games a season
beginning in 2025. Those eight (8) league-operated international games do not include club-operated games, such as the Jaguars
hosting a game at Wembley Stadium.
