The Growing Rate Of Obesity Among The Community
Obesity has been an issue that is been pathologized in the Samoan community.. I am not entirely
sure if the blame is on fast food industries or it has something to do with our unique genes. I grew
up in American Samoa, a small island southwest of Hawaii, and health is not a priority in my
community. One health challenge that I have witnessed while growing up in Samoa is the growing
rate of obesity among the community. According to the World Health Organization records, 95% of
the populations are overweight. Most Samoansdepend heavily on western food such as burgers,
hot dogs, pizzas, and other fried food that has been introduced to people s diet. Some people
cannot afford organic foods or vegetables because it is too expensive so they turn to fast food
chains since they offer a cheap and convenient alternative. Being obese in Samoa is normal since
more than half of the population fall under this category. However, that view has changed once
western culture become heavily involved in the Samoan community in regards to cultural and
social beliefs.
Before western food was incorporated in American Samoa, people depended on raw food such as
taro, banana, breadfruit, fresh seafood, etc., to survive. They were in built and fit shapes because
they would constantly have to be engaged in subsistence fishing and farming. Since Westernization
has brought fast food, laborsaving devices, and other technological devices, it reduced the incentive
for Samoans to participate in physical

Understanding Apple SWOT Analysis Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) now has the largest market
cap of any company. It zoomed past Exxon Mobil (NYSE: XOM) and never looked back. It is one
of the most popular and recognized brands worldwide, although it seems to draw as much hatred
from some as love from others. So let s take a look at the iconic brand here a bit removed from the

This allows for a level of integration that otherwise is not available. It also allows for greatly
simplified quality assurance testing. In the end, Apple has been able to deliver an overall much
more solid, robust experience to the end users. This is prized by users who do not want to spend
time fixing their computer. I used to say that the problem with Apple was that they did not have
an open system, and that the problem with Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) is that they did. In
smartphones tablets, Research in Motion (NASDAQ: RIMM) is following this path with
Blackberry 10. 6 One less understood characteristic of Apple is the ability to wait. I think this is
a lesson learned from the Newton project one of the original PDAs with handwriting input, it
failed in part because it was too far ahead of its time, That is, it was a great idea (as Palm was to
prove), but the hardware technology of the time was not up to the task. Apple can work on an idea
for years, but wait for the moment in time when it can introduce a new product with sufficient
power and style to carry off the new functionality in a form meets their standards. Thus, the iPhone
waited for the development of LTE chips that met Apples specifications, particularly in terms of
power consumption. They would wait and be

Abbie Hoffman Counterculture Movement Essay
Plan of Investigation In the 60s and 70s, many people in the United States began realizing that
what the government was doing was wrong. They began creating their own views and beliefs on
situations such as civil rights and the Vietnam War. Out of this new sense of individualism, known
as the counter culture movement, protests and anti Establishment groups were formed. These
people believed society was going downhill and needed to be changed. One of the most prominent
and well known protesters of this time was a man named Abbie Hoffman. The topic of
investigation will be Hoffman and his efforts during this counterculture movement. A description
of the movement will be given, as well as a summary of Hoffman s efforts within the movement
from several book sources, an entry in the American Sociological Review, and a newspaper and
magazine article during the times the movement was occurring. The two sources that will be
evaluated are a college paper by Hannah Fink entitled The Counterculture Movement and a book by
Marty Jezer entitled Abbie Hoffman: American Rebel, which is comprised of... Show more content

Jezer was a well known activist during the Counterculture movement. He was involved in politics
and was also an author of several books and columns. He wrote this book to show the life of Abbie
Hoffman and all his accomplishments and hardships. As a member of the movement, he provides
information as a primary source but also gets information about Hoffman from credible sources
such as Hoffman s wife and some people Hoffman interacted with. Being an activist during this time
period, Jezer provides some bias favoring the activists in the movement. However, in comparison to
The Counterculture Movement, Jezer s book has much fewer limitations and much more reliability.

Patrick Come To Me Analysis
This is one of the biggest themes in this novel. Because there are so many immigrants to Canada
during the time of the novel (1913 1940), North America is still without language, gestures and
work and bloodlines are the only currency. The novel explores different forms of language besides
words. Patrick comes to live in a Macedonian immigrant community in Toronto; even though he is a
native Canadian, he is isolated by language in his own country. But he learns to relate to those
around him, and at a moment when he is in the Teck Cinema watching a silent film and laughing
out loud, he looks up and catches the eye of someone else laughing, and they have the same
realization that this mutual laughter is conversation. And before this, when

Henry Ford In Brave New World Essay
Henry Ford in Brave New World Aldous Huxley wrote Brave New World in 1932. Brave New
World is set in London, in AD 2540. The novel shows life in a utopia where there is advanced
reproductive technology, class conditioning and sleep learning. Everyone is happy in Brave
New World and if they start to become unhappy, they can take a drug called soma. Henry Ford is
considered the God. Henry Ford is an appropriate God figure because he was the leading industry
person of his time, Brave New Word is about technology and the people of the World State are like
the parts of a factory.
Henry Ford played a large role in the American Industrial Revolution. Ford was born in 1863 and

there are no parents everyone is created in a test tube. They are raised in the Central London
Hatchery until they can survive on their own and then they get their job and go into the world.
Everyone is conditioned to be in a certain caste and do certain job. The castes are Alpha, Beta,
Gamma, Delta, or Epsilon. Alphas are conditioned to be leaders and attractive. Each caste you
go down is less attractive and intellectual. The Epsilon are conditioned to do harshest jobs and
are deprived of oxygen as embryos, therefore they are not very smart. At the hatchery they use

There is no aging in this world, they all take pills to keep them young and once they reach a

13th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment
The 13th Pennsylvania Reserves Regiment (42nd Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment) were said to be
superior marksmen, and during the first year of the Civil War, they distinguished themselves as
fighters and sharpshooters. They were organized into the 149th and 150th Regiments of the
Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. Their most important contribution to the Battle of Gettysburg
occurred on McPherson s Ridge on July 1, 1863, where they fought one of the most desperate
actions of the battle. During the battle, the regimentdrew heavy artillery fire from Confederate
guns. The shellfire was unremitting. The regiment held their ground and put up the fight of their
life until the Union line collapsed and the Confederates forced them to fall back. The Bucktails
defense at McPherson s Ridge bought valuable time for more Union units to arrive in the area and
deploy for the ultimate Union victory at Gettysburg. The 143rd PA Volunteer regiment known as
the Bucktail Regiment is one of Pennsylvania s most well known Civil War units. The regiment
obtained their famous nickname of Bucktails before they began their service in the Union army. For
some unknown reason, recruit James Landregan removed the tail of a whitetail deer he slew, and

stood up to watch what was going on. Maj. John D. Musser of the 143rd wrote: ... a few shells

The Southern Dialect as Seen in the Works of William Faulkner
In the writings of William Faulkner, the reader may sense that the author has created an entire
world, which directly reflects his own personal experience. Faulkner writes about the area in and
around Mississippi, where he is from, during the post Civil War period. It is most frequently
Northern Mississippi that Faulkner uses for his literary territory, changing Oxford to Jefferson and
Lafayette County to Yoknapatawpha County, because it is here that he lived most of his life and
wrote of the people he knew.
Faulkner s stories focus on the Southeastern United States at a time period when old traditions
began to clash with new ideals. This is an era in American history ... Show more content on

Anyone not from the South may need explanations of much of Faulkner s pronunciations, words,
usages, and language customs which the author himself takes for granted. Because Faulkner has
employed such a vast and complex Southern dialect in his stories, the language he uses has become
a microcosm of Southern language as a whole. As one critic has noted, local forms of speech
maintain one s individual dignity in a homogenizing world (Burkett vii).
In Faulkner, this local speech is a mixture of Southern American and Negro dialogue with all the
folklore from Virginia to Louisiana, Florida to Texas (Brown 2). Faulkner s dialect is effective both
as a literary device and as a link between the American English language and American culture and
history, specifically in the Southeast.
The South is probably the most linguistically diversified part of the nation. Blacks and whites from
Atlanta to Charleston to Nashville speak a different form of standard English in a different version
of the Southern accent. Part of this linguistic diversity is reflected in the way that the Southern
aristocracy can shift not only vocabulary and pronunciation, but even grammar, according to the
audience ((1)McDavid 219). This

Analysis Of Eugene O Neill s PlayThe Emperor Jones
Eugene O Neill is widely considered the most influential of American playwrights. He is called
the founder of modern drama in the United States , and holds the title of the first American
playwright to earn a Nobel Prize in literature. (O Neill 794) His play, The Emperor Jones, is
credited as being one that provided several firsts in American theatre history: the Provincetown
Players first major hit, the first major role for an African American actor on the legitimate
Broadway stage (in houses where the audience was still racially segregated), and the play that
secured O Neill s place as a writer for the high art, experimental theatre worthy of international
attention. (Steen 343) Basically, The Emperor Jonesmade Eugene O Neill.
The play is a psychological study of Brutus Jone s mind, his fears, visions and dream. Tom tom
is part and parcel of the psychological action; at first it is the call to war ; then it merges into the
Emperor Jones vision of the slaves working to its beat; finally it becomes is own throbbing,
feverish temples, all the while it s our heart beating more and more rapidly as we follow his fate.
lastly the Tom tom is a symbol of man s last heart beat, death the consciousness of Jones has been
presented through the cinematographic technique of the flashback fusing the past and present. Here
symbol and psychology merge and the whole play is a long drama. Emperor Jones represents the
breakdown of a Negroid mentally under the stress of fear and

The Evolution Of Photography, By Joseph Nicephone Niepce
SNAP! SNAP! You ve just caught the perfect picture of your friend running on the beach, your dog
stealing your favourite shoe, or your little brother with his hands deep in the cookie jar. Now pause
and think about the future and how many times you would laugh showing these pictures to friends
or family. Now rewind a couple of hundred years and imagine a world without photographs to
capture these precious memories. As much as photographyis used on day to day bases, has the
concept truly crossed your mind as to how it came about? Personally, the evolution of photography
has always been intriguing process difficult and fascinating at the same time for me to understand.
The first photographwas taken in 1826, by Joseph NicГ©phone NiГ©pce. The picture was taken
from a window with a view at the Le Gras with a cameraobscure. Unfortunately in the early years
there had to be so many problems with photography, with long exposure times and working on the

Essay on The Continuing Mystery of SIDS
The Continuing Mystery of SIDS
Sudden infant death syndrome ( SIDS) is the greatest cause of infant deaths ranging from ages one
month to one year. Most of these deaths occur before the age of six months. Normally, any
unexplainable infant death is considered to be due to SIDS. Numerous attempts have been made to
discover the exact cause of this syndrome. However, the only known pathology is that SIDS is due
to a dysfunction or abnormality in the cardiac and/or respiratory systems. To this point, an exact
and definite cause has not been named. This paper will attempt to present several of the proposed
and hypothesized causes of SIDS.
First of all, it is necessary to understand some of the important features of this syndrome (Naeye, ...

Possible post mortem characteristics of SIDS victims have been found to be normal in comparison
with post mortem non SIDS infants of the same age. Furthermore, no abnormalities in the growth
and morphology of the lungs and hearts of SIDS infants have been found. Therefore, in more recent
years, research has shifted from the actual death and autopsy findings to chronic abnormalities
found within these infants prior to death.
The list of proposed chronic abnormalities is lengthy. To this date, research has confirmed the
following: 1) SIDS is due to a dysfunction of the cardiac and/or respiratory systems, and 2) the
death of the infant is due to hypo ventilation of the lungs and periods of complete cessation of
breathing or apnea. Hypo ventilation and apnea cause hypo perfusion of the tissues with necessary
oxygen. Ischemia of tissues results and eventually causes death. Research now centers around
discovering the cause of infant hypo ventilation and apnea.
Hypothesized causes of SIDS generally have fallen into three basic categories:
1) causes related to the respiratory system; 2) causes related to the cardiac and circulatory system;
and 3) causes related to levels of various circulating substances (enzymes, neurotransmitters, viruses)
within the body
First of all, most SIDS research has been focused upon the neuronal control of the respiratory
system. As mentioned previously, the post mortem lungs of SIDS victims showed no evidence of

Analysis Of The Book Fences
Fences: Troy Maxson An apocalypse is defined as a deeper understanding of the world that results
in a type of closure. Furthermore, a personal apocalypse would be described as an understanding of
an event or situation that results in a closure, such as the end of a struggle or situation, or even
death within time. Time is defined as the indefinite, uncontrolled, continued progress of existence
and events over time past, present, and future. Throughout Fences, Troy Maxson endures many
trials and tribulations, but the closure that comes from these events within his life results in his
own personal apocalypse over time. In Act I, Scene I of Fences, the audience is introduced to
Troy Maxson as he sitting on his raggedy porch talking to a friend. One can see that Troy has a
controlproblem through some of the statements he makes and the actions that follow them. At
one moment, his friend accuses him of eyeing another lady, and Troy reacts by saying, Hell,
yeah, I bought her a drink! What that mean? I bought you one, too. What that mean cause I buy
her a drink? I m just being polite (Wilson 966). I have always been told that the convicted are the
ones that get mad. Here, Troy gets aggravated because he is being said to have something for
another woman when he is married. To further this, his friend then states that he has seen Troy
walking around the woman s house several times. Troy then goes berserk, saying, What you

The Importance of a Kindergarten Teacher
Kindergarten children thrive when they can work independently and cooperatively with a small
group of peers (Gullo, D. F., 2006). A kindergarten teacher who is teaching students to work
independently and in small groups while learning about numbers must understand that the students
are very diverse and have been taught in many different ways. A kindergarten teacher is a very

as it is counted); providing opportunities to develop facility with finger pattern counting, so that 5
fingers and 10 fingers become anchors for the other numbers. Thus, students will recognize that
they do not have to recount the 5 fingers on one hand in order to show 6 fingers; instead, they can
automatically show the 5 fingers, say five , and then count on an additional finger from the other

Ciudad Juarez is a city known at the future city to the United States. It is right on the border of
Texas, near El Paso. The United States believes that Ciudad Juarez is the future because it
allows big factories to produce in Mexico and have easy access to America to ship their goods to
sell. On top of easy access, Mexico does not have the same minimum wage limit so big
businesses are allowed to get very cheap labor, which allows the product to be sold cheaper. In
reality Ciudad Juarez is one of the most dangerous cities in the world due to the cartels and
police. Since 1993 a pattern of femicides (killing of women) estimates about 400 were women
killed between the ages of 11 24 (Stacy L. Mallicoat, 2012, p246). Even though the United States
thinks this city is working out for the best; but it is a huge poverty town whose main production
is trafficking women and drugs. Femicides have been linked to larger social issues like masculine
identity and allowing females to enter the workforce. Some countries believe it is okay for a guy
to be violent against a woman. Also when a woman enters the work force it can cause a threat to
men masculinity. To help allow women to enter the work force without the men feeling that they
are taking over their jobs they can open up more jobs for men. Trafficking is only going to keep

Therefore the mass of the unknown object could be predicted based on the analysis of data
through the use of linear regression form. This is because the scared plots of the second graph
created best resemble a straight line, meaning that the unknown mass is predictable and can be
placed on the graph. An R2 value of one or close to one means the relation is fit and present. The
mass of the unknown object was determined through the use of the linear regression equation of
the second graph. The period of this unknown mass was squared and then inserted this number
into the period squared equation. The mass was determined to be between about 330g. Like in
any other experiment there is room for error, this room for error is present since the results are
based of numbers that aren t completely exact. The graph of period squared vs mass proved to
only be trusted after 300g, the graph for period vs mass had the same results. A questionable
scatter point that did arise was on the graph for period squared vs mass. In this graph a plot was
placed at .011 seconds which compared to the others is quite different. This could be the error in
the experiment, outside factors such as the force that was applied to the object could have
dramatically changed the results. In order to control this factor and get more accurate results the
experiment would have to factor that the same force be applied to each

Patriotism and The American Flag Essay
There is much controversy surrounding the idea of patriotism and the iconography of the
American flag in today s society. Some believe patriotism is simply the act of supporting the
decisions of the leaders of the country. Others say, to be patriotic, people should be outspoken and
voice their oppositions to what is going on in the government. Opinions also differ on the idea of
what the American flag represents. One opinion of the flagsrepresentation is that the flag represents
our history, and the formerly mentioned idea of patriotism. Others believe the flag also represents
our history as a nation, but these beliefs focus much more heavily on the negative aspectsof our
history; such as slavery and other injustices carried out by our... Show more content on

All Americans should find their opinion on patriotism and voice that opinion. There are many
different views of patriotism and many will clash, but if we continue to talk and use our minds
instead of our fists or guns, we can eventually come to a compromise of both ideas, which will
best represent everyone s opinions on patriotism. Through more clearly and fairly defined ideas of
patriotism we can better understand the actions of our fellow Americans and avoid more
unnecessary conflicts caused by extremist ideas being the only ideas heard.
Another vague subject of patriotism brought up in times of war is the iconography. In America the
most commonly known icon of patriotism is the American flag. Unfortunately, what the flag
represents is ambiguous and unclear to most people. Kingsolver pleads, We desperately need a
new iconography of patriotism (Pg. 2). When examining why she says this we should look at
what other people believe the flag represents. Some, traditionally conservative or republican, feel
the flag is a physical representation of supporting their country. An abundance of flags are often
seen during times of war or tragedy. Flags signify peoples care, concern, or support for what is
going on. The absence of an American flag can often result in persecution. People who do not
openly display their so called patriotism are often

Persuasive Speech On Photography
I hone in on the target. I get into position to shoot the perfect shot. I look through the scope,
verifying my position. Then I snap the photograph, breathe, and repeat. This is the process.
Photography is simple yet so rewarding. I feel pride in knowing that my finished work has the
power to shape and change the way its viewers see the world. In fact, it did it to me. Before falling
in love with the camera, my happinesswas reliant on my future success. As I came to realize,
believing that I was not good enough at the moment was my downfall. I am not the only one
who has embraced this mentality. Unfortunately, our society lives it, constantly looking forward
towards times to come instead of being grateful now. It is a major problem the world faces, and I
intend to fix it. I am going to be a photojournalist, and through the work that has blessed my life, I
will convince my viewers to look beyond the current methods used to find satisfaction with the
knowledge that the process to achieve success is a process, not a limitation, to have faith that it is
possible to find what matters most like I did and be happy now and in the future.
Our society seeks satisfaction in the form of instant gratification rather than long term happiness
and sadly, these techniques are materialistic and produce results that are very short lived; viewing
my work in photography will help people overcome this obstacle. As something becomes of worth

According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, workplace violence is
defined as an act of aggression directed toward persons at work or on duty, ranging from offensive
or threatening language to homicide (Wolf, Delao Perhats, 2014, p.305). Workplace violence

Despite the lack of reporting, it is clear that emergency department nurses are frequently victims of
violence perpetrated by patients and visitors (Gates et al., 2012, p. 203). Prosecution to the full
extent of the law is necessary to decrease the perception that violence against nurses is acceptable.
Greater support from public officials and management is necessary to combat this growing problem,
with the institution of specific policies and procedures. Movement toward a nonviolent workplace
will result in higher nurse satisfaction and retention. To effectively establish and address the issue,
more research, support from hospital management, and stronger legislation is necessary.

My first goal was to be able to use basic counseling skills within my counseling sessions and
working on learning more about creating appropriate treatment plans on my own. I did quite a bit
of reading of books, such as treatment planners and also met with both of the Post Docs at my site
to learn how they approach treatment planning. I was able to get some good insight on how my
approach may differ from others and that this is okay. I learned that in this journey it is very
important to know what theoretical orientation you are using to think about change.
In order to measure the progress of this goal, I have worked to develop a better understanding of
the intake/interviewing process here at the PRACTICE and have been reviewing basic counseling ...

Depression and Anxiety group at the PRACTICE). This has been a very interesting experience
and has been very beneficial for me. I am also going to get an opportunity to facilitate the Young
Adult Group for a few weeks while someone else will be on vacation next month. In order to
measure the progress of this goal, I have reviewed my group counseling textbook from last
semester and watch videos that were recommended based on Yalom s group teachings for about
one hour every two weeks thus far. I have investigated the 11 curative factors so that I could
write appropriate group formatted notes. Also, I have joined a research project at our clinic
related to individual and group tracking that will better our clinics group program. I have worked
with one of our Post Docs and my undergraduate supervisee to explore how group outcomes and
tracking can be implemented in a clinic, such as the PRACTICE. The expected outcome was that I
would understand the process group dynamics and the 11 curative factors further. I have done so
this far and am continuing to better understand what it would mean to track group experience in
my current research project at the clinic. This also has helped me as a counselor in training to see
if what I am doing is working within the group setting. By doing my own research I can see, which
measures work best within the group setting and

Sports Specialisation Essay
Specialisation can be divided into early or late. Diversification is included of a number of sports for
the athletes that specialise later. Diversification early on allows the athlete to explore different
sports growing mentally, physically, cognitively, and socially in a positive environment.
There have been studies conducted that show that in the Division 1 NCAA, majority of athletes
were more likely to have played multiple sports in high school and that their first more focused on
sport, was different from the on they play in college.
Current evidence suggests that delaying sports specialization for majority of sports until around
the age of 15 16 will minimize possible risks and lead to a higher likelihood of higher athletic
success

These skills can then be transferred over to their primary sport if they decide to specialize which
can lead to an increased performance and skill level and they will not as much deliberate practice
to acquire expertise in their primary sport.
Studies do show that deliberate play within the primary sport is crucial for development to obtain
elite status
Athletes during late adolescence have the physical, cognitive, emotional, social and motor skills
needed to invest into specialised training as they understand the benefits and costs of intense focus
on the one sport and are able to make independent decision about investing in one sport.
Athletes who specialise too soon are at the risk of physical, social and emotional problems. Athletes
may become socially isolated from their peers and may alter relationships with family
It is common to see specialised athletes with overuse injuries which result in possible time away
from their primary sport and in extreme cases can cause early retirement from the sport
The risk of injury can result from many factors such as training volume, competitive level and

Governments every were are seeking new ways of reinventing their personnel systems to meet

The increased use of temporary, part time and seasonal workers and the increased hiring of
exempt employee through employment contracts. Employers are reducing cost and enhance
flexibility by meeting the minimal staffing requirements through permanent employees and
hiring temporary, seasonal and part time workers to meet peak workload( these positions are
usually low paid, no benefit and are fired at will employees), which requires minimal skills, and
when skills are required such jobs are contracted out to avoid save money . Exempt positions
means funds must be available before such positions are filled, they are not classified within the
civil service system, the terms and conditions of these positions are specified through a contract
listing pay and benefits and limiting the terms of employment, they can be fired at will in the event
of a change in management or disagreement, this also means contract can be renewed or denied.
This managerial flexibility allows for agencies to reduce their overhead expenses without having to
deal with civil service regulations and collective bargaining and union issues.
2.Change in role of HR administration In the civil service system the role of the HR administrator
is technical, record keeping and processing personnel issues but the alternative personnel system
have brought about a change in the job description of an administrator in that he is now involved in
brokering of deals and mediating of conflicts among competing personnel systems.

The Morality Of The Abortion Of A Fetus
Introduction: In this essay, the morality of the abortion of a fetus will be discussed in a drama
involving a married couple named Deb and Derek (Smolkin, Bourgeois Findler, 2010). For
clarification purposes, we must first define the topic of this discussion; abortion is defined as the
act in which a female voluntarily terminates her pregnancywhere this act is legally permitted
(Warren, 1973). Deb who is 16 weeks pregnant discovers that the fetusshe is carrying will most
likely be born mentally challenged (Smolkin et al., 2010). As the drama unfolds, the couple
ponders the negative impact this child will have on their business, marriage as well as the quality
of life that their child will experience if it is carried to term (Smolkin... Show more content on

Marquis concludes that abortion deprives a fetus of its potential life and ultimately results in the
greatest loss one can comprehend: life (1989). It is important to note that there are many
arguments regarding what constitutes a person, or when in development a fetus attains
personhood; however, in Deb s case we will consider the 16 week old fetus in the drama to be a
person.
Targeted Objections to Anti Abortion: When finding objections to how one considers abortion to be
morally impermissible, it is clear to see that one can target flaws in the argument that if one is
satisfied with themselves being terminated during their mother s pregnancy then they must provide
that courtesy to an unborn fetus. Although objections to this example are hard to come by for the
person experiencing what constitutes a good life , it is easy to consider scenarios in which we
could potentially exist in, and decide whether we would be satisfied with a future that is less than
desirable (Hare, 1975). From the latter, it seems logical to argue the potential value of one s
satisfaction with future with the potential of one s dissatisfaction of the future due to unforeseen
circumstances. When considering the many undesirable potential

Pros And Cons Of Abortion In India
Abortion is one delicate subject when it comes to debating about it because of people religious
beliefs and the controversy surrounding it. But what people don t know that in many parts of the
world abortion is a big part of their daily life choices. And by that, I mean that most people tend to
have abortions, depending on the sexof their baby, because of their belief system. China and India
are one of the major countries that prefer males over females because men are the ones that are
always in power in the household and also they are the ones that tend to inherit the majority of the
family s benefits. China has one of the highest abortion rates, along with that they have the lowest
femalepopulation. Throughout my research, I ve learned a lot about sex selective abortion one of
those things that it s traveling to other parts of the world.
The reason I chose to write my report on sex selective abortion is that I saw a documentary called It
s a Girl: The Three Deadliest Words in the World I found it to be intersecting since this was my
first time ever hearing about. I couldn t understand why? Throughout the documentary, you learn
mainly how women in China and in India are being neglected and are forced into having an
abortion because of the sex of their baby. IN INDIA, CHINA AND MANY OTHER PARTS OF
THE WORLD TODAY, GIRLS ARE KILLED, ABORTED AND ABANDONED SIMPLY

The Negative Effects Of Technology In Dave Eggers s The...
Imagine a world where everyone s enigmatic thoughts were exposed to the public. Today, in the
vast cyberspace, anonymity leads to audacious actions of cruel words posted by rather introverted
individuals who would not dare to speak those words in a face to face encounter. Furthermore,
they refuse to be held accountable for their actions and interfere with peace by creating chaos. The
phrases secrets are lies , sharing is caring and privacyis theft (CITE?) are explicated in Dave Eggers
, The Circle. Mae Holland follows these three mantras, justified by leaders of the Circle, to make
life changing decisions. A world extracted of anonymity and instead, policed by an omniscient
public is one cause to the negative effects of technology on one s private life. In The Circle,
programs are developed in the Circle to implicate improved and advanced living conditions
through the use of technology. Ironically, these programs such as Past Perfect , ChildTrack ,
SoulSearch and SeeChange introduce immoral issues. The plot of The Circle by Dave Eggers
portrays the negative aspects of technology on private lives shown through character experiences in
the novel and raises unethical issues about the programs created in the Circle, which correspond to
the influence technology has in the real world. Mae Holland started her job at the Circle, known to

the thought of demolishing the delay a Democratic power grab.
The plot of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington spins, obviously, around the delay. In that time period,
the Senate couldn t move onto different business if the delay was not determined that is to say, the
filibusters needed to really be talking keeping in mind the end goal to keep up the delay. This
changed when Robert Byrd was Senate Majority Leader. Byrd (and his gathering) founded a two
track framework, changing the standards so that the Senate could desert the delayed movement and
proceed onward to different business. This change was made in light of the fact that delays were
seen as valuable, however excessively obstructionist, and Byrd felt the Senate required the
adaptability to have the capacity to proceed onward to different things. In an unintended outcome,
minorities of late have found that Byrd basically made it allowed to delay. In the event that

Analysis of Bertrand RussellВґs The Problems of Philosphy...

1)
The philosopher Bertrand Russell in his work, The Problems of Philosophy, comes to some
conclusions of the truth of objects in our world. Through questioning certain ideas and problems in
our world, he breaks down what can know what really exists in the world and what does not.
Russell, an empiricist, believes that through our sensory perception of our environment. However,
our own individual perception can be skewed, and therefore is susceptible to err. Russell gives
an example of three people, one is color blind, one is sick, and one is inebriated sick, and one is
inebriated, and ask them to describe the same chair, they will all give you slightly different
answers. Then if you take that chair and put it behind a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This consistency proposes to Russell, that we, at least, must have faith in the reality of a single,
specific, real chair. To this commonsensible belief, he also goes on to propose the idea that real
objects cause the sense data we intake, so therefore must be related to them in a certain
noteworthy way. So from this what can we believe and not believe to exist? Well first of all we
can believe that, if we are looking at the chair, we can conclude the object itself is real, there is a
chair there. Our senses take in the sense data of a chair, four legs, a back rest, etc. We then take
this data and use our prior knowledge of other chair like things, and we can come to the solution
of the object we are looking at is a chair. This logic applies to all objects in such a manner.
However we cannot truly believe that certain things truly exists. Such as the fact that we cannot
truly believe the existence of certain characteristics of an objects when it s subject outside
influence, such as a chair in water. To the naked eye, the chair would look distorted, but it is not
so, the water distorts our perception of the chair, therefore deceiving our view of the reality of the
characteristics of the chair. In conclusion, Russell gives us an answer to the question, if our senses
can be easily deceived and tricked into perceiving and reality that is false, how can we believe it

The Castellammarese war was based in Castellammarese del Golfo, Sicily. The name
Castellammarese refers to immigrants from the town of Castellammare del Golfo in Western

Russia was ready to fight for a change. The Bolshevik party, a branch of the Russian Social

revolutions, fighting for a societal evolution that would lead a once capitalist Russiainto a
communistic political powerhouse. Two parties represented the left wing of the RDSWP, both

By World War 1, the Bolshevik party was the only political party in Russia to fight vocally to end
the war, insisting that it was dividing the working class and leading them to death. Due to this
vocalization, the leaders of the movement were arrested; Lenin had escaped from the arrests and
moved to Switzerland, leaving behind a small core group who supported the movement. On
April 4, 1917, Lenin returned to Russia to give his April Thesis to Social Democratic Parties. He
pushed a new program, stating that it was time to start a socialist society before a bourgeois
government was permanent. Moreover, he established a tactical program to stir a revolution for a
proletariat. Their slogan, Peace, Land and Bread, highlighted the three areas the party believed
were necessary for success, of which to current government was failing to excel at. Particularly,
the provisional government lacked an agrarian program, left urban populations starving to help
the war, and they, according to Lenin, were in need of a new offensive. Lenin emphasized most
that all power should be left with the soviets. As a result, on October 24 25, 1917, Lenin and the
Bolshevik party led Russian workers and peasants to overthrow the Provisional government and set
up a soviet government. The revolution resulted in peace on all fronts, and enabled the party to take

The Greatest Physical Of Sports
People love to watch, play, and enjoy sports or cheering for teams. In the majority of sports that
are physical and require a lot of contact that could potentially cause injuries. The most physical of
sports such as hockey, soccer, football, and boxing can make the people who care about them
worried for their health. Some people don t understand that the helmet the playerswear don t always

by having your brain constantly hit your skull. The NFL should take more necessary precautions
every time a playersuffers from damage. There is are diseases called CTE which means chronic
traumatic encephalopathy players get playing that turn into medical bills need to be paid for by the
NFL because players often are pressured to ignore the symptoms of a concussion and go back out

decisions. I believe that they should study about what can actually happen to their health so that
they can prevent getting concussions and acknowledge the negative effects.
These days most athletes worry about how big their pay checks going to be than actually caring
what s on the scoreboard. A good of players know that if they aren t actually playing the game then
they are not getting paid. If they always keep this concept in their heads than most players will

cortisol (Bear, Connors Paradiso, 2007). During the fear and anxiety response, the central nucleus
of the amygdala is active; once active, an excitatory response in the hypothalamus occurs

CRH then triggers the anterior pituitary gland to secrete ACTH (Davidson, 2013). The ACTH
levels in the blood stream cause cortisol to be released from the adrenal cortex and once the levels
of cortisol become high, the hippocampus activates, suppressing the release of CRH (Davidson,

The Trinity Doctrine Of God
Though the word Trinity is not explicitly found in the Bible, the teaching that there are three
individual personalities of divine nature (known in the New Testament as the Father, Son, and Holy
Spirit) is thoroughly scriptural and has been generally acknowledged by the writers of Christendom
since the apostolic age.
Around A.D. 190, Theodotus of Byzantium advocated the absolute personality of God. Asserting
that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit were one person, he sought to propagate his views in the
church at Rome. He is said to be the first representative of Dynamistic Monarchianism whose views
have been recorded .

The question is: what does Scripture mean by one God? In the Old Testament, the words el, eloah,
and elohim, from related roots, are generic designations of God. The New Testament term is theos.
Elohim , meaning God , is sometimes confused to show the plurality of the Godhead, this is not
a correct interpretation. In the Hebrew words are plural in construction but singular in the way
that they are used. Also the Hebrew often used plural forms to show majesty or greatness of one
person or deity. Even though these are plural words, to say they represent a multiplicity in the
Godhead would be wrong. Historically Hebrew people and there writings are monotheistic.
When you are referring to God using Elohim , it is always used with a singular verb such as is
and created which are found in Genesis 1:1, but the scripture also uses Elohim in pagan references
in the Bible, and in doing so it uses plural verbs with Elohim as well.
These appellations, when used of the true God, simply suggest the nature or quality of being
divine deity. The word God is not the name of a personality; it is the name of a nature, a quality of
being. When it is said, therefore, that there is but one God, the meaning is: there is but one divine
nature.
The treatment of God will fall into three parts: first we will consider that which pertains to the

Summary Of Hungry Minds By Ian Frazier
Hunger is something we experience every single day, but the hunger I am talking about isn t what
you are thinking. Hunger is when something is missing or absent. It can be emotionally,
physically, physiological or spiritual. We are always hungry for something in life and as an adult,
you are never truly full. We are constantly striving for more and to fulfill all types of hunger. This is
perfectly described in the of Ian Frazier s article, Hungry Minds.
Frazier describes different people that are involved with the soup kitchen and they are all there
because they are hungry, some for food but majority is there to fulfill a deeper hunger. Father Rand
Frew was the one who suggested to start the soup kitchen because he wanted to feed his need of
starting something that would make a difference. I can relate to Father Rand Frew in this aspect
because I am too hungry for that. I want to make a difference and right now in my life, I feel
deprived of this. That is why I am here at Warner Pacific College to fulfill that hunger. I am
exhausted of my current job as a billing specialist for a long term care pharmacy. The work I do
every day tends to get overlooked. I am looking to get the Atta boy! or the pat on the back but all I
get right now is a paycheck and a cold room to sit in. I need to see that my work is making a
difference to keep myself motivated and strive to work harder. I want to eventually have that job
that makes me feel good as a person and make me feel proud. I

It also teaches us that sometimes those who are supposed to be there for us, our families, in our
lowest moments won t always be there. Literature can also teach us how to rely on self love
rather than the love you can receive from a single person. Throughout our journey, we will find
those who we want to spend the rest of our lives with, yet at times they do not think the same. In
The Great Gatsby, the main message is self love and self acceptance. When love turns into desire
and desire turns into suffering we need to learn how to love ourselves before we are capable of

Happiness By Raymond Carver Essay
Simple Joys
The acquisition of happiness evades most who search for constant joy and pleasure. One reason the
pursuit of happiness evokes such hardships likes within the innate spontaneous nature of happiness.
The poem Happiness by Raymond Carver captures one man s glimpse of happiness during an early
morning watching two paper boys pass through the neighborhood. Carver illustrates the brief and
unexpected nature of happiness through his poem s imagery of youth, fractured structured, and
simple word choice. The imagery in the poem depicts a young and early morning, which mirrors
the sudden onset of happiness for the narrator. The narrator describes the scene as so early it s still
almost dark out (1), and later mentions, the sky is taking on light/ through the moon still hangs

sudden appearance of light in the darkness reflects how the narrator s original unhappy and boring

Changes And Effects Of The Hundred Years War
The Hundred Years War is the seventh longest war in history lasting one hundred and sixteen
years in which there were 3.5 million deaths. The Hundred Years War was between France and
England from 1337 to 1453 over the succession to the French throne. When Charles IV of France
died without sons in 1328, his closest male relative was King Edward III of England. Isabella of
France claimed the French throne for her son, but the French rejected it. Philip of Valois, first
cousin of Charles IV, succeeded the throne as King Philip VI of France. For about nine years the
English had accepted the Valois succession to the French throne but finally they rejected it and
Edward III claimed the throne. Englandpoured all of its resources and manpower into... Show more

There were many different weapons, some old behind established and some new and created by
the kingdoms. The creation of the longbow changed the course of the war, giving a distinct
advantage to the English. This weapon was utilized to its full potential because it changed the
feudal armies to small archery based troops. There were also developments of other weapons
that the English and French did not create but used the weapons for the first time in the location.
The effect changed the way they traded and with whom they traded. New places began to trade
with France and England so they were exposed to different cultures and societies. France and
England took these new weapons and made advancements to them like adding a spear to the end
of the gun or creating stronger bullets.21 New believes began to develop throughout France and
England including the belief of nationalism throughout the society. This new belief changed
society drastically and made for a strong and powerful monarch in both France and England.
Because of these new believes army sizes grew which in turn caused more deaths but also
increased manpower for the king. These believes solved the crisis because the king needed troops
and the commoners needed money. It also caused France and England to believe that their country
was superior to all others and therefore more powerful

Monsanto Research Paper
WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR GMOs?
It has been no secret that one of the biggest contributors to GMO crops is Monsanto. This is the
same company responsible for Saccharin, Aspartame, DDT, Agent Orange, Bovine Growth
Hormone and Glyphosate. In addition, they are also responsible for PCBs (polychlorinated
biphenyls that were used for coolant fluids for electrical transformers, capacitors, and electric
motors). This eventually led to Monsanto paying out over $600 million in 2003 to residents of
Anniston, Alabama, who experienced severe health problems, including liver disease, neurological
disorders and cancer after being exposed to PCBs.

Many other countries have done their own analysis and research and have found unequivocally that
GMO seeds show signs of high toxicity, which offer serious side effects and negative health effects
on consumers.
Several of the companies that have been responsible for GMO crops and their negative effects on

1 Peter Analysis
F.Lecture 19 1 Peter
Word Count: 565
1.Summarize the typical evangelical reconstruction of the circumstances behind the writing of 1
Peter.
The letter attributes the writing to Peter. Similarities in style with Acts and the Gospels seem to
confirm the attribution along with a lack of objections from the early church about authorship.
Peter probably used Silas as an amanuensis, accounting for the Greek style of the letter. The next
verse claims that the letter was written from Babylon , likely a code name used for Rome. This
coincides with tradition and with Paul s correspondence since, according to 2 Tim. 4:11, Mark
went to Rome in the mid 60 s. Thus, Peter is writing from Rome at the beginning of the Neronic
persecution before his martyrdom ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What is apocalyptic literature and what distinct rules of interpretation apply to it?
The genre of apocalyptic literature is varied but was well known in the first century and can also
be seen in other Christian and Jewish sources such as Daniel, Ezekiel, Zechariah, Jesus Olivet
Discourse, and portions of 1 and 2 Thessalonians. This type of writing makes extensive use of
symbolism, grotesque and outlandish imagery, and numbers infused with cryptic/symbolic
meaning. It was often written in times of crisis, and can depict past, present, and future events
intertwined or leading to moments of Godly intervention and triumph over evil forces.
Apocalyptic literature ought to be studied and analyzed in light of first century history. The most
important hermeneutical principle we can follow is, to make sense out of the text as a 1st century
Christian in Asia minor would have understood it, and not as a modern 21st century Christians
infusing meaning anachronistically into the text as it is often done. A literal interpretation is
almost always the wrong approach to interpret such

Use of Figurative Language in Daddy by Sylvia Plath Essay
The figurative language in the poem Daddy by Sylvia Plath can be used to discover a deeper
significant of the poem. By using figurative language throughout the poem such as symbolism,
imagery, and wordplay, Plath reveals hidden messages about her relationship with her father. Plath
uses symbols of Nazis, vampires, size, and communication to help reveal a message about her dad.
In Plath s poem she frequently uses figurative language about Nazis and the Holocaust. Plath
depicts herself as a victim by saying she is like a Jew, and her father is like a Nazi. Plath uses a
train engine as a metaphor for her father speaking the German Language, and also to depict herself
as a victimized Jew being taken away to a concentration camp. ... Show more content on

Plath uses a hyperbole to drive the point of her father being the epitome of a Nazi by saying the
swastika is so black it blocks out the sky. This extreme exaggeration helps drive across Plath s point
of her father being a complete Nazi. Near the end of the poem another allusion to Hitler is used. I
made a model of you, / a man in black with a Meinkampf look (Plath 64 65). Here the father is
described as a model, and an illusion to Hitler is made when she states he has a Meinkampf look
with Mein Kampf being a book written by Hitler. Plath s use of figurative language helps give a
clear image of her relationship with her father and shows how she depicts him to be like a Nazi.
Plath uses the symbol of a vampire to describe her father s personality. At the end of the poem
Plath shifts the depiction of her father from a living Nazi to a dead vampire. The vampire who
said he was you / And Drank my blood for years (Plath 73 74). Here Plath bluntly calls her father
a vampire who has sucked her blood for years. The metaphor of a blood sucking vampire is used
to help paint a vivid image of the pain in Plath s relationship. Plath again describes her father as a
vampire who has died with a stake through his heart. There s a stake in your fat black heart / And
the villagers never liked you. / They are dancing and stamping on you (Plath 76 79). Along with
showing the father dying a vampire s death, the metaphoric villagers dancing

The Effect Of Cost On The Profitability Of The Businesses...
Introduction
All businesses work with the main objective of making a profit. The determination of the
profitability of the businesses will depend on the assessment of various factors of production as
they contribute to the final income. The most primitive way of expressing the profit of a firm is
through the subtraction of the costs from the revenues. Fixed cost is costs that are not changeable
over a long period of time while the variable costs do change as time changes. Traditionally, the
statement of accounts and profitability only took into consideration the interplay between the two
factors costs and revenues. In this traditional statement, variable costs and fixed cost were treated
similarly. The separation of the costs as either fixed cost or variable cost came into being with the
advent of the margin statement. In simplest terms, contribution margin has been used to indicate
the result of excess between the revenues and the variable costs. The contribution margin is
therefore, an in depth statement of profit to take to account a lot of other financial variables in the
like revenues, expenses, profits, and losses among others. Gross profit is a crude profit since it does
not entirely belong to the company s revenue. These are some of the loopholes in the accounting
that the contribution margin exists to seal and it does this through the consideration of net profit in
the accounting period other than the gross profit. The most important application of the contribution

Perspective Essay on the Code of the Streets
Perspective Essay on The Code of the Streets
Culture in urban communities, also referred to as inner cities, are growing increasingly violent. In
the article, The Code of the Streets by Elijah Anderson, he begins to take an in depth look at the root
of the evil. He deduces that economic factors, parenting and the troublesome environments largely
influence the violent norms within this culture.
Anderson notes that two groups coexist simultaneously in the inner cities which he labels as the
decent and the streets. Although both groups suffer economic difficulties, they differ in values
mainly instilled through parenting and the home environment. The decent group seeks to adopt
mainstream middle class values, such as a love, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Robberies, violence and drug dealing transgressions are a constant fear of many. The decent
families although opposed to the norms of the ghetto, encourage their children to understand and
respect the code of the streets in an effort to protect themselves. Also, many youths in the inner
cities try to behave as others within their sub culture. A child might dress or speak a certain way
that a race is labeled to be standard to fit in. For example, a Caucasian individual may dress in
baggy clothes and speak in slang in public to imitate what people label the African Americanyouth
to be uniform. However, this individual in some instances could act completely different at home or
in other environments such as family gatherings or church. Anderson begins to analyze the troubled
culture by first looking at the home environment and behaviors during childhood. The values differ
drastically between the two groups. He states that the decent families are typically working
families and try to instill positive values in their children. They hope to provide a nurturing
environment and aid their children in pursuing a successful future. They are involved in their
performance in school and have home rules to abide by. They have curfews for their children and
generally know where and whom they are with at all times, especially young children. They try to

War in Syria DBQ Essay
In March of 2011, Syrian citizens peacefully protest about the arrest and torture of group of
teenagers who had written anti government graffiti on a wall. Instead of President Bashar al Assad
listening to the people, he responded with violence. This led up to the uprising of rebels, and the
Syrian Civil War. Though what is truly fueling the violence in Syria? One thing that may be fueling
this violence is religion. Religion is a huge part to countries and conflict. In Syria, the background

determining on which side of the conflict they stood. For instance, most Sunnis do not agree with

Jetblue Airlines Summary of Case
Barger, previously president and COO of JetBlue, was named the airline s CEO.
JetBlue s board promoted Barger to the CEO role in the wake of a highly publicized operational
crisis in February that led to the cancellation of over 1,100 JetBlue flights and adversely affected
the travel plans of thousands of passengers. Though numerous interviews and meetings during the
past day allowed Barger to outline his vision for the airline, he realized that he needed to move
quickly in implementing that vision to maintain the confidence of customers, employees, and
shareholders.

Attracting passengers who would have otherwise traveled by car or bus, Southwest was able to
maintain high levels of plane utilization, thereby keeping its operating costs low enough to support
its discounted fares.
A key component of Southwest s ability to manage costs was its reliance on a single type of plane
the Boeing 737. * Over time, Southwest s ground and flight personnel became very familiar with
the 737; this decreased the airline s average turnaround time between landing a plane and putting it
back into the air. * This efficiency, combined with the shrewd use of fuel hedges, buoyed Southwest
s profits.
* Attempts by competitors to mimic Southwest s LCC model typically were unsuccessful, as
demonstrated by the infamous rise and fall of no frills People Express Airlines during the 1980s
and the short lived attempts of several major airlines including Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines
, and United Airlines to create LCC subsidiaries during the 1990s.
By 2006, Southwest was firmly established as the only consistently profitable airline in an industry
rocked by deregulation, fare wars, overcapacity, and the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
Specifically, Southwest was the only airline in America to show a profit for each year since 1973
up to 2005.
After September 11, the airline industry

The interval for the next eruption is based on the total duration of the current eruption. 1.2
Research Question From previous studies there are misguided interpretations on the eruption
duration and how it affects the waiting time. From mere observations we can conclude that Old
Faithful has a pattern which follows a fixed set of time. The research questions that arises is;
Does the eruption and waiting time of the Old Faithful geyser follow a fixed set of time or is
there a variation in the waiting time with respect to the eruption time? 1.3 Research Methodology
Data collection and sources; the data used in this study comes from Azzalin and Bowman(1990). It
includes a data frame with 272 observations on 2 variables that is eruption time and waiting time.
The data is heavily rounded times originally in seconds. Of the variables the waiting time has been
used as the response variable while eruption time appears as the predictor variable. These means
that waiting time is seen to be determined by the time an eruption takes. So we expect that the
longer the eruption period, the longer the waiting period. This paper wishes to study the test that,
under the null hypothesis, there is no variation in the waiting time. theassumptions under this
hypothesis is that the interval time between one eruption to the next is fixed and do not occur by
chance. This paper shall use the

South Korea s Legal Tradition
The next nation that will be discussed is South Korea, whose legal tradition finds its origins
from Japan, but is now becoming more American in nature due to increased globalization. Korea
s legal tradition was first established 4,300 ago when the Gojoseon dynasty created its own
statutory law, heavily influenced by Confucianism and China s legal system (SpringerLink and
Yŏn guwŏn 2). (note that during the retelling of South Korea s history, the nation will be
referred to as Korea until the point at which it became separated into Northern and Southern
territories). Korea maintained this particular legal tradition, and aspects of a uniquely Korean
brand of Confucianism, until the 19th century. In 1894, the internally induced Kabo Reforms
aimed to modernize the whole of Korea in terms of legal and administrative systems, culture,
economy, and more ( Emergence of a Modern Society ). The Kabo Reforms resulted in a legal
system that closely resembled Japan s system, which followed a civil legal tradition that was
heavily influenced by Germany. Korea s transformation towards a Japanese civil law system was
further intensified and completed when it became a colony of Japan in 1910. Following the defeat
of Japan during World War Two, Korea gained its independence in 1945, only for the southern half
of the nation to fall under American occupation until 1948, while the northern half was occupied by
Soviet Russia (SpringerLink and Yŏn guwŏn 5). Now dubbed as South Korea, the

The Importance Of Fighting In The NHL
Fighting has been a part of the NHL since 1922 and it has had a huge impact on the game of
hockey and the sport wouldn t be the same without it. There are a lot of injuries involved with
fighting but if fighting wasn t in pro hockey then there would probably be a lot more injuries.
Some players would be more chippy and run at people and get away with it without facing the
consequences for it. Fighting also has a key part in motivating a team if they aren t playing well.
A fight will spark your team and give them a little more jump in a game most of the time. Skilled
players that rarely fight even agree that fighting should not be taken out of hockey like Henrik

Claude Lemiuex who played for many teams throughout his 21 year career in the NHL was known
as one of the biggest pests that has been in the league. Pests in the NHL are players that attempt to
antagonize opposing players with physical play and by chirping. He is best known for the
infamous hit on Kris Draper where he hit him from behind, forcing Drapers face into the boards.
Draper suffered a broken jaw, shattered cheek, and orbital bone which needed surgery that
involved his jaw being wired shut and a lot of stitches. This hit lead to the rivalry of the Detroit
Red Wings and the Colorado Avalanche. Throughout the next 5 years there were 2 or 3 line
brawls between the two teams that even included the goalies fighting. Darren McCarty got his
revenge on Lemieux in the first brawl since the Draper incident and blindsided him after a
whistle in the game. That game had 18 major fighting penalties that totaled up to 144 penalty
minutes combined for both teams. If the NHL didn t have fighting who knows what else he
would have done in games to opposing players but by having fighting in the game he knew that
he would have pay for his actions so he did not play how he usually did against the Red Wings.
Lemieux only received a 2 game suspension and $1000 dollar fine for the hit so having someone
knock him around a little bit was a more suitable punishment. If fighting wasn t allowed he never
would have faced any consequences for that hit because in todays game he would have been
suspended for maybe 20 games or

  • 2. The Growing Rate Of Obesity Among The Community Obesity has been an issue that is been pathologized in the Samoan community.. I am not entirely sure if the blame is on fast food industries or it has something to do with our unique genes. I grew up in American Samoa, a small island southwest of Hawaii, and health is not a priority in my community. One health challenge that I have witnessed while growing up in Samoa is the growing rate of obesity among the community. According to the World Health Organization records, 95% of the populations are overweight. Most Samoansdepend heavily on western food such as burgers, hot dogs, pizzas, and other fried food that has been introduced to people s diet. Some people cannot afford organic foods or vegetables because it is too expensive so they turn to fast food chains since they offer a cheap and convenient alternative. Being obese in Samoa is normal since more than half of the population fall under this category. However, that view has changed once western culture become heavily involved in the Samoan community in regards to cultural and social beliefs. Before western food was incorporated in American Samoa, people depended on raw food such as taro, banana, breadfruit, fresh seafood, etc., to survive. They were in built and fit shapes because they would constantly have to be engaged in subsistence fishing and farming. Since Westernization has brought fast food, laborsaving devices, and other technological devices, it reduced the incentive for Samoans to participate in physical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Understanding Apple SWOT Analysis Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) now has the largest market cap of any company. It zoomed past Exxon Mobil (NYSE: XOM) and never looked back. It is one of the most popular and recognized brands worldwide, although it seems to draw as much hatred from some as love from others. So let s take a look at the iconic brand here a bit removed from the daily headlines. I. Strengths 1 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This allows for a level of integration that otherwise is not available. It also allows for greatly simplified quality assurance testing. In the end, Apple has been able to deliver an overall much more solid, robust experience to the end users. This is prized by users who do not want to spend time fixing their computer. I used to say that the problem with Apple was that they did not have an open system, and that the problem with Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) is that they did. In smartphones tablets, Research in Motion (NASDAQ: RIMM) is following this path with Blackberry 10. 6 One less understood characteristic of Apple is the ability to wait. I think this is a lesson learned from the Newton project one of the original PDAs with handwriting input, it failed in part because it was too far ahead of its time, That is, it was a great idea (as Palm was to prove), but the hardware technology of the time was not up to the task. Apple can work on an idea for years, but wait for the moment in time when it can introduce a new product with sufficient power and style to carry off the new functionality in a form meets their standards. Thus, the iPhone waited for the development of LTE chips that met Apples specifications, particularly in terms of power consumption. They would wait and be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Abbie Hoffman Counterculture Movement Essay Plan of Investigation In the 60s and 70s, many people in the United States began realizing that what the government was doing was wrong. They began creating their own views and beliefs on situations such as civil rights and the Vietnam War. Out of this new sense of individualism, known as the counter culture movement, protests and anti Establishment groups were formed. These people believed society was going downhill and needed to be changed. One of the most prominent and well known protesters of this time was a man named Abbie Hoffman. The topic of investigation will be Hoffman and his efforts during this counterculture movement. A description of the movement will be given, as well as a summary of Hoffman s efforts within the movement from several book sources, an entry in the American Sociological Review, and a newspaper and magazine article during the times the movement was occurring. The two sources that will be evaluated are a college paper by Hannah Fink entitled The Counterculture Movement and a book by Marty Jezer entitled Abbie Hoffman: American Rebel, which is comprised of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jezer was a well known activist during the Counterculture movement. He was involved in politics and was also an author of several books and columns. He wrote this book to show the life of Abbie Hoffman and all his accomplishments and hardships. As a member of the movement, he provides information as a primary source but also gets information about Hoffman from credible sources such as Hoffman s wife and some people Hoffman interacted with. Being an activist during this time period, Jezer provides some bias favoring the activists in the movement. However, in comparison to The Counterculture Movement, Jezer s book has much fewer limitations and much more reliability. • 5. Patrick Come To Me Analysis This is one of the biggest themes in this novel. Because there are so many immigrants to Canada during the time of the novel (1913 1940), North America is still without language, gestures and work and bloodlines are the only currency. The novel explores different forms of language besides words. Patrick comes to live in a Macedonian immigrant community in Toronto; even though he is a native Canadian, he is isolated by language in his own country. But he learns to relate to those around him, and at a moment when he is in the Teck Cinema watching a silent film and laughing out loud, he looks up and catches the eye of someone else laughing, and they have the same realization that this mutual laughter is conversation. The novel shows life in a utopia where there is advanced reproductive technology, class conditioning and sleep learning. Everyone is happy in Brave New World and if they start to become unhappy, they can take a drug called soma. Henry Ford is considered the God. Henry Ford is an appropriate God figure because he was the leading industry person of his time, Brave New Word is about technology and the people of the World State are like the parts of a factory. Everyone is conditioned to be in a certain caste and do certain job. The castes are Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, or Epsilon. Alphas are conditioned to be leaders and attractive. Each caste you go down is less attractive and intellectual. The Epsilon are conditioned to do harshest jobs and are deprived of oxygen as embryos, therefore they are not very smart. At the hatchery they use hypnopaedic which is sleep teaching, so the children will learn the morals of the World State. There is no aging in this world, they all take pills to keep them young and once they reach a certain age they die. In Brave New World, it is seen odd to have real relationships with people. • 7. 13th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment The 13th Pennsylvania Reserves Regiment (42nd Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment) were said to be superior marksmen, and during the first year of the Civil War, they distinguished themselves as fighters and sharpshooters. They were organized into the 149th and 150th Regiments of the Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. Their most important contribution to the Battle of Gettysburg occurred on McPherson s Ridge on July 1, 1863, where they fought one of the most desperate actions of the battle. During the battle, the regimentdrew heavy artillery fire from Confederate guns. The shellfire was unremitting. The regiment held their ground and put up the fight of their life until the Union line collapsed and the Confederates forced them to fall back. The Bucktails defense at McPherson s Ridge bought valuable time for more Union units to arrive in the area and deploy for the ultimate Union victory at Gettysburg. The 143rd PA Volunteer regiment known as the Bucktail Regiment is one of Pennsylvania s most well known Civil War units. The regiment obtained their famous nickname of Bucktails before they began their service in the Union army. • 8. The Southern Dialect as Seen in the Works of William... The Southern Dialect as Seen in the Works of William Faulkner In the writings of William Faulkner, the reader may sense that the author has created an entire world, which directly reflects his own personal experience. Faulkner writes about the area in and around Mississippi, where he is from, during the post Civil War period. It is most frequently Northern Mississippi that Faulkner uses for his literary territory, changing Oxford to Jefferson and Lafayette County to Yoknapatawpha County, because it is here that he lived most of his life and wrote of the people he knew. Faulkner s stories focus on the Southeastern United States at a time period when old traditions began to clash with new ideals. This is an era in American history ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Anyone not from the South may need explanations of much of Faulkner s pronunciations, words, usages, and language customs which the author himself takes for granted. Because Faulkner has employed such a vast and complex Southern dialect in his stories, the language he uses has become a microcosm of Southern language as a whole. As one critic has noted, local forms of speech maintain one s individual dignity in a homogenizing world (Burkett vii). In Faulkner, this local speech is a mixture of Southern American and Negro dialogue with all the folklore from Virginia to Louisiana, Florida to Texas (Brown 2). Faulkner s dialect is effective both as a literary device and as a link between the American English language and American culture and history, specifically in the Southeast. The South is probably the most linguistically diversified part of the nation. Blacks and whites from Atlanta to Charleston to Nashville speak a different form of standard English in a different version of the Southern accent. Part of this linguistic diversity is reflected in the way that the Southern aristocracy can shift not only vocabulary and pronunciation, but even grammar, according to the audience ((1)McDavid 219). • 9. Analysis Of Eugene O Neill s PlayThe Emperor Jones Eugene O Neill is widely considered the most influential of American playwrights. He is called the founder of modern drama in the United States , and holds the title of the first American playwright to earn a Nobel Prize in literature. (O Neill 794) His play, The Emperor Jones, is credited as being one that provided several firsts in American theatre history: the Provincetown Players first major hit, the first major role for an African American actor on the legitimate Broadway stage (in houses where the audience was still racially segregated), and the play that secured O Neill s place as a writer for the high art, experimental theatre worthy of international attention. (Steen 343) Basically, The Emperor Jonesmade Eugene O Neill. The play is a psychological study of Brutus Jone s mind, his fears, visions and dream. Tom tom is part and parcel of the psychological action; at first it is the call to war ; then it merges into the Emperor Jones vision of the slaves working to its beat; finally it becomes is own throbbing, feverish temples, all the while it s our heart beating more and more rapidly as we follow his fate. lastly the Tom tom is a symbol of man s last heart beat, death the consciousness of Jones has been presented through the cinematographic technique of the flashback fusing the past and present. You ve just caught the perfect picture of your friend running on the beach, your dog stealing your favourite shoe, or your little brother with his hands deep in the cookie jar. As much as photographyis used on day to day bases, has the concept truly crossed your mind as to how it came about? Personally, the evolution of photography has always been intriguing process difficult and fascinating at the same time for me to understand. • 11. Essay on The Continuing Mystery of SIDS The Continuing Mystery of SIDS Sudden infant death syndrome ( SIDS) is the greatest cause of infant deaths ranging from ages one month to one year. Most of these deaths occur before the age of six months. Normally, any unexplainable infant death is considered to be due to SIDS. Numerous attempts have been made to discover the exact cause of this syndrome. However, the only known pathology is that SIDS is due to a dysfunction or abnormality in the cardiac and/or respiratory systems. To this point, an exact and definite cause has not been named. This paper will attempt to present several of the proposed and hypothesized causes of SIDS. First of all, it is necessary to understand some of the important features of this syndrome (Naeye, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Possible post mortem characteristics of SIDS victims have been found to be normal in comparison with post mortem non SIDS infants of the same age. Furthermore, no abnormalities in the growth and morphology of the lungs and hearts of SIDS infants have been found. Therefore, in more recent years, research has shifted from the actual death and autopsy findings to chronic abnormalities found within these infants prior to death. The list of proposed chronic abnormalities is lengthy. To this date, research has confirmed the following: 1) SIDS is due to a dysfunction of the cardiac and/or respiratory systems, and 2) the death of the infant is due to hypo ventilation of the lungs and periods of complete cessation of breathing or apnea. Hypo ventilation and apnea cause hypo perfusion of the tissues with necessary oxygen. Ischemia of tissues results and eventually causes death. Research now centers around discovering the cause of infant hypo ventilation and apnea. Hypothesized causes of SIDS generally have fallen into three basic categories: 1) causes related to the respiratory system; 2) causes related to the cardiac and circulatory system; and 3) causes related to levels of various circulating substances (enzymes, neurotransmitters, viruses) within the body First of all, most SIDS research has been focused upon the neuronal control of the respiratory system. As mentioned previously, the post mortem lungs of SIDS victims showed no evidence of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Analysis Of The Book Fences Fences: Troy Maxson An apocalypse is defined as a deeper understanding of the world that results in a type of closure. Furthermore, a personal apocalypse would be described as an understanding of an event or situation that results in a closure, such as the end of a struggle or situation, or even death within time. Time is defined as the indefinite, uncontrolled, continued progress of existence and events over time past, present, and future. Throughout Fences, Troy Maxson endures many trials and tribulations, but the closure that comes from these events within his life results in his own personal apocalypse over time. In Act I, Scene I of Fences, the audience is introduced to Troy Maxson as he sitting on his raggedy porch talking to a friend. One can see that Troy has a controlproblem through some of the statements he makes and the actions that follow them. At one moment, his friend accuses him of eyeing another lady, and Troy reacts by saying, Hell, yeah, I bought her a drink! What that mean? I bought you one, too. What that mean cause I buy her a drink? I m just being polite (Wilson 966). I have always been told that the convicted are the ones that get mad. Here, Troy gets aggravated because he is being said to have something for another woman when he is married. To further this, his friend then states that he has seen Troy walking around the woman s house several times. Troy then goes berserk, saying, What you watching me for? Femicides have been linked to larger social issues like masculine identity and allowing females to enter the workforce. Some countries believe it is okay for a guy to be violent against a woman. Also when a woman enters the work force it can cause a threat to men masculinity. The purpose of this lab experiment is to find the mass of an unknown object. The way this experiment will be accomplished is through a use of the line regression method. This lab will begin with eight objects whose massis known to see if there is a perfect fit relation between the mass of the objects to the period that is being tested. This lab consists of the use of five materials that included a standard masses, a stopwatch, tape, a C clamp, and an internal balance. Therefore the mass of the unknown object could be predicted based on the analysis of data through the use of linear regression form. This is because the scared plots of the second graph created best resemble a straight line, meaning that the unknown mass is predictable and can be placed on the graph. An R2 value of one or close to one means the relation is fit and present. The mass of the unknown object was determined through the use of the linear regression equation of the second graph. The period of this unknown mass was squared and then inserted this number into the period squared equation. The mass was determined to be between about 330g. Like in any other experiment there is room for error, this room for error is present since the results are based of numbers that aren t completely exact. The graph of period squared vs mass proved to only be trusted after 300g, the graph for period vs mass had the same results. A questionable scatter point that did arise was on the graph for period squared vs mass. In this graph a plot was placed at .011 seconds which compared to the others is quite different. This could be the error in the experiment, outside factors such as the force that was applied to the object could have dramatically changed the results. In order to control this factor and get more accurate results the experiment would have to factor that the same force be applied to each ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some believe patriotism is simply the act of supporting the decisions of the leaders of the country. One opinion of the flagsrepresentation is that the flag represents our history, and the formerly mentioned idea of patriotism. There are many different views of patriotism and many will clash, but if we continue to talk and use our minds instead of our fists or guns, we can eventually come to a compromise of both ideas, which will best represent everyone s opinions on patriotism. Through more clearly and fairly defined ideas of patriotism we can better understand the actions of our fellow Americans and avoid more unnecessary conflicts caused by extremist ideas being the only ideas heard. Another vague subject of patriotism brought up in times of war is the iconography. In America the most commonly known icon of patriotism is the American flag. Unfortunately, what the flag represents is ambiguous and unclear to most people. Kingsolver pleads, We desperately need a new iconography of patriotism (Pg. 2). When examining why she says this we should look at what other people believe the flag represents. Some, traditionally conservative or republican, feel the flag is a physical representation of supporting their country. An abundance of flags are often seen during times of war or tragedy. Flags signify peoples care, concern, or support for what is going on. The absence of an American flag can often result in persecution. Through questioning certain ideas and problems in our world, he breaks down what can know what really exists in the world and what does not. Russell, an empiricist, believes that through our sensory perception of our environment. However, our own individual perception can be skewed, and therefore is susceptible to err. Russell gives an example of three people, one is color blind, one is sick, and one is inebriated sick, and one is inebriated, and ask them to describe the same chair, they will all give you slightly different answers. This consistency proposes to Russell, that we, at least, must have faith in the reality of a single, specific, real chair. To this commonsensible belief, he also goes on to propose the idea that real objects cause the sense data we intake, so therefore must be related to them in a certain noteworthy way. So from this what can we believe and not believe to exist? Well first of all we can believe that, if we are looking at the chair, we can conclude the object itself is real, there is a chair there. Our senses take in the sense data of a chair, four legs, a back rest, etc. We then take this data and use our prior knowledge of other chair like things, and we can come to the solution of the object we are looking at is a chair. This logic applies to all objects in such a manner. However we cannot truly believe that certain things truly exists. Such as the fact that we cannot truly believe the existence of certain characteristics of an objects when it s subject outside influence, such as a chair in water. To the naked eye, the chair would look distorted, but it is not so, the water distorts our perception of the chair, therefore deceiving our view of the reality of the characteristics of the chair. In the Hebrew words are plural in construction but singular in the way that they are used. Also the Hebrew often used plural forms to show majesty or greatness of one person or deity. • 34. Summary Of Hungry Minds By Ian Frazier Hunger is something we experience every single day, but the hunger I am talking about isn t what you are thinking. Hunger is when something is missing or absent. It can be emotionally, physically, physiological or spiritual. We are always hungry for something in life and as an adult, you are never truly full. We are constantly striving for more and to fulfill all types of hunger. This is perfectly described in the of Ian Frazier s article, Hungry Minds. Frazier describes different people that are involved with the soup kitchen and they are all there because they are hungry, some for food but majority is there to fulfill a deeper hunger. Father Rand Frew was the one who suggested to start the soup kitchen because he wanted to feed his need of starting something that would make a difference. I can relate to Father Rand Frew in this aspect because I am too hungry for that. I want to make a difference and right now in my life, I feel deprived of this. That is why I am here at Warner Pacific College to fulfill that hunger. I am exhausted of my current job as a billing specialist for a long term care pharmacy. The work I do every day tends to get overlooked. I am looking to get the Atta boy! or the pat on the back but all I get right now is a paycheck and a cold room to sit in. I need to see that my work is making a difference to keep myself motivated and strive to work harder. I want to eventually have that job that makes me feel good as a person and make me feel proud. The Great Gatsby Lessons Learned Analysis Lessons To Be Learned Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers (Charles William Eliot). In this quote by Charles William Eliot, he expresses the comfort given by a book. He describes it as a friend, one that is always there and one that is patient and is willing to guide you. When our own friends are not there to take care of us while we go through certain struggles, we can pick up a book and it is capable of making us realize that the problem that is at hand is conquerable. In The Great Gatsby, the main message is self love and self acceptance. When love turns into desire and desire turns into suffering we need to learn how to love ourselves before we are capable of loving someone else. We need to take those steps or all else will crumble down. • 44. The Effect Of Cost On The Profitability Of The Businesses... Introduction All businesses work with the main objective of making a profit. The determination of the profitability of the businesses will depend on the assessment of various factors of production as they contribute to the final income. The most primitive way of expressing the profit of a firm is through the subtraction of the costs from the revenues. Fixed cost is costs that are not changeable over a long period of time while the variable costs do change as time changes. Traditionally, the statement of accounts and profitability only took into consideration the interplay between the two factors costs and revenues. In this traditional statement, variable costs and fixed cost were treated similarly. The separation of the costs as either fixed cost or variable cost came into being with the advent of the margin statement. In simplest terms, contribution margin has been used to indicate the result of excess between the revenues and the variable costs. The contribution margin is therefore, an in depth statement of profit to take to account a lot of other financial variables in the like revenues, expenses, profits, and losses among others. Gross profit is a crude profit since it does not entirely belong to the company s revenue. These are some of the loopholes in the accounting that the contribution margin exists to seal and it does this through the consideration of net profit in the accounting period other than the gross profit. South Korea s Legal Tradition The next nation that will be discussed is South Korea, whose legal tradition finds its origins from Japan, but is now becoming more American in nature due to increased globalization. (note that during the retelling of South Korea s history, the nation will be referred to as Korea until the point at which it became separated into Northern and Southern territories).
