Annotation Of Sappho s Fragment 16
The Greeks produced some of the greatest literature in the Archaic Age; stories were dauntless,
delightful, and passionate whilst sustaining a worldly and rich composition. Poetry became one of the
arts that grew favorable to the citizens of Greece due to the mellow melody of the art while preserving
the significant principles and values of their culture. The poem Fragment 16, written by the illustrious
poet of the Archaic Age ca. 600 BCE, Sappho, expresses the admiration of Anactoria and her
commendable beauty. This poem, translated by Jim Powell, is an example of one of Sappho s
renowned lyric poetry, demonstrating the intricate practice of love and passion. Lyric poetry is the art
of expressing the poet s private emotions and affairs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Archaic Age, beauty is sought by the citizens of Greece all throughout the various forms of
artistic expression. For example, Greek sculptures before the Archaic Age were widely influenced by
the mesopotamians and egyptians, with rigid postures and ceremonious gestures. However, in the
Archaic Age, we see a little more change throughout the art of sculpting in Greece. Greek sculptors
began incorporating lively, athletic, and healthy attributes to the work of art, such as the Anavysos
Kouros, (page 52) a Greek korari sculpture based by the Archaic Age. Health and beauty in art was
commenced in the Hellenic Era, almost as much as the religious aspect of the art. In addition,
Architecture grew of the idea of beauty and beautiful buildings. Greek temples became very intricate
with design and beautifully delicate with aesthetic ethics incorporated into their fundamental
principles. Developments such as the post beam triangle construction, pediments, cornice, and
stylobate was implemented to integrate beauty into their architecture. An example of this art would be
the Temple of Aphaia, (page 49) Aegina, created in 510

The Good, the Bad, and the Milosevic
Slobodan Milosevic and many others who were born in WW2 have had troubled childhoods,
Milosevic s parents committing suicide which would traumatize any adult . He rose through the ranks
of Tito s communist party and survived the late 60 s purges where he became a close ally to the 1980 s
party leader Ivan Stambolic. When Slobodan Milosevic was president of Serbia, Time Magazine
interviewed him in 1995 just after the Dayton peace accords. His interview focused on four key
actions that were affecting former Yugoslavia. Firstly, the atrocities that ethnic Serbs were perpetrating
against Bosniak s. Secondly his national speeches that focused on Serbian nationalism that gained him

Hundreds of years of ethnic violence are dredged up at every meet; everyone thinks theirs is the just
cause. From my impartial view there is more than enough blame to go around for all sides .
Milosevic came in to power in Yugoslavia because of his adept timing to use the 1987 protest by
promoting Serbian nationalism on national television. Milosevic adamantly stated in the interview that
none of his books and speeches discussed a strictly Serbian state. The concept of Greater Serbia was
conceived in 1884 Ilika Garasanin and was the credo for the secret Serb nationalist group the Black
Hand who assassinated Franz Ferdinand . Emulating the same opinion from the Garasanin writing,
Milosevic tried to create a Serbia that had complete control over the Yugoslavian area and discredited
any country that tried to exempt itself out of the reaches of Serbian control. Bosnia and Herzegovina
was illegally proclaimed as an independent state and recognized.
Nationalism had been voiced many time s by Milosevic which he uses to voice out against the
Bosnian state. With the help from Karadzic another person who was indicted for war crimes,
Milosevic was able to gain a stronger foothold in Bosnia Herzegovina. Rape camps were used and
created to eliminate the Bosniak bloodline. Thousands of Muslim and Croatian girls and women were
raped and made forcibly pregnant in settings including Serbian run concentration camps, of which
about twenty are solely rape/death camps

The Tragic Hero Of Shakespeare s Hamlet
[insert introduction here] Macbeth and Hamlet are both tragic heroes whose fall from greatness
disturbs the order of their kingdoms.
A tragic hero is a character, one of high esteem, whose internal imperfection leads to their downfall.
Both Macbeth and Hamlet are well known and of high social class when an unexpected calamity hits.
Hamlet, the son of the king of Denmark, is a charismatic prince most immediate to [the] throne
(Shakespeare, Ham I.ii.109). It can be inferred that he lives a rather extravagant and convenient
lifestyle. That is, until his father dies and his uncle takes both the throne and Hamlet s mother as wife.
From Hamlet s perspective this is a calamity for two reasons: Hamlet was heir to the throne, and his
mother ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His reaction upon learning this fate is twofold: Macbeth can wait patiently for legitimate royalty, or he
can give into his black and deep desires, and steal the throne from Duncan (X). Hamlet s fate, on the
other hand, is to set right the murder of his father(x). It both cases, neither of the characters fates are
what killed them, but rather their tragic flaws. While Macbeth ultimately succumbs to his unchecked
ambition and rashly murders any potential and unlikely threat to the throne, Hamlet procrastinates and
fails to fulfill his revenge in a timely, simplistic manner. Because of his uncontrolled ambition,
Macbeth blindly trusts the witches who promise inviolable royalty, murders his closest friend, and
kills the family of his nemesis. Hamlet, on the other hand, weary of the legitimacy of the supernatural,
puts on an antic disposition and delays his revenge as he searches for confirmation of the ghost s
accusations (x). Hamlet s procrastination causes him to miss multiple opportunities at revenge. For
example, he chooses not to kill a vulnerable, praying Claudius (x). In this way, Macbeth and Hamlet
fall victim to their own actions. Had Macbeth been satisfied with just his throne, he would not have
risen any suspicion amongst the others. Similarly, had Hamlet acted in a timely manner and killed
Claudius the moment he was made aware of his

Argumentative Essay On Food Bank Rights
Food banks provide prevailing economic need as a distribution outlet for the federal government
(USDA), and national local food sources. Food banks serve and help create an infrastructure of
member s agencies, food panties that provide food directly to food insecure seniors and other food
insecure populations, soup kitchens and relief organizations. Food banks networks provide food
support for over 37 million Americans yearly including 14 million children and over 3 million older
adults. As of 2015 there were over 15, 000 food pantries throughout the United States. The majority of
seniors that use food banks receive some social assistance, over 41% lived alone, and over 22% of
food bank recipients in food insecure senior households had sought help from food banks, soup
kitchens, or other charitable agencies to feed themselves in the past year (AARP, 2014, p. 29 30). ...

Effects Of Captive Enrichment On Fish Production
Effects of Captive Enrichment on Fish Production: Fathead Minnows (Pimephales promelas)
Introduction Environmental enrichment for fish in captive environments has not been studied often,
unlike that of mammals. However, in the last decade, there have been more attempts to study it.
Moreover, structural environmental enrichment is the focal point at this time. Structural environmental
enrichment is the addition of a structure (e.g. toys, buoys, artificial vegetation) to the rearing
environment (Naslund Johnsson, 2014). Enrichment can affect a variety of aspects of the biology of
captive fish, such as, stress, injury, disease susceptibility, aggression, and energy expenditure (Gerber
et al., 2015)). A recent study conducted by Naslund and Johnsson (2014), found that environmental
enrichment can be divided into groups. These groups include: physical enrichment, sensory
enrichment, dietary enrichment, social enrichment, and occupational enrichment. Since, some of those
are difficult to test, physical enrichment is what is being studied now. All species of fish are not the
same and prefer certain substrates rather than others. Therefore, since the Fathead Minnows that we
will be studying and conducting this research on, will depend on what they prefer. The goal of this
study is to test whether captive enrichment affects the reproduction success of P. promelas.
Background Fathead minnows can survive in a variety of environments such as creeks, headwaters,
rivers, lakes, and

Zeffirelli Vs Branagh
Hamlet is one of Shakespeare s most well known and most frequently performed plays. Many people
have enjoyed reading and watching hamlet, both on stage and theatrically. Directors often add
different styles to their pieces to invoke different moods. These styles change as time progresses;
predominant in the comparison between Franco Zeffirelli s and Kenneth Branagh s direction of
William Shakespeare s Hamlet act 3 scene 1. Zeffirelli s interpretation of Shakespeare s Hamlet act 3
scene 1 is more effective than Branagh s interpretation. Zeffirelli centralizes the play around a dark
setting and dark clothing style which puts emphasis on the sadness certain characters are facing.
Whereas Branagh uses more vibrant colors in clothing style and ... Show more content on

Branagh s use of setting is not as effective as other cinematic depictions of the play, as it does not fully
enlighten the sad mood. Branagh s style of direction takes away the sad mood. To begin, Branagh uses
a colorful setting to take away the emphasis on the surrounding sadness, while maintaining a sad
mood. In Branagh s version his portrayal of the setting during the interaction between Hamlet and
Ophelia captures the sad mood. Branagh captures Hamlets movement through an array of rare emotion
as he takes in Ophelia s words. When Hamlet and Ophelia first see each other, happy music and warm
light and bright setting create a light, triumphant mood that showcases their deep love. The statement I
did love you once (3.1.14) is spoken with tears in his eyes that capture Hamlet s love. When Ophelia s
returns the tokens Hamlet shows his feelings of betrayal and all of his emotions shift as he grapples at
understanding. As Hamlet s anger rises, the music shifts to match it. This interpretation suggests that
with deep love comes the ability to hurt each other deeply. Shortly after Ophelia s sorrowful speech
helps aid in developing a sad mood. The use of setting is not as effective as other depiction of the
scene yet it prevails in its intention of creating a sad mood. Next, the setting during Hamlet s soliloquy
is what establishes a sad mood. Branagh s makes Hamlet speaks his soliloquy steadily in a large room
filled with mirrors. Mirrors are often used to suggest self reflection and clarity. It is ironic Branagh s
emotionally susceptible Hamlet is associated with an item of reflection and clarity. Branagh s Hamlet
does not shift from suicidal to contemplative at the

Superintendent Noble will have made a stand as he stated in the newspaper article. Negative
Consequences. The negative consequences of this decision is that the district will most likely be sued
in a court of law by the ACLU because of the Establishment Clause of the first amendment and the
precedence set in previous cases. Another negative consequence is that a small segment of the
community and students will feel as though their concerns are not important, so Superintendent Noble

the lens of utility because the decision to leave the bulletin board posted will be the best decision for
the overwhelming majority of claimants involved. According to the lens of utility, the decision is
ethical.

The Relation Between the Setting And the Character In The Yellow Wallpaper and Big Two Hearted
River
The aim of this paper is to analyze the importance and relation of the setting and characters in the two
short stories: The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman and Ernest Hemingway s Big Two
Hearted River .
The setting in The Yellow Wallpaper helps illustrate the theme of solitary confinement and exclusion
from the public resulting in insanity. The house rented by the characters for the summer as well as the
surrounding scenery suggest an isolated environment. Because of its vast colonial mansion look, its
age and state of degradation, a supernatural hypothesis is implied: the ... Show more content on

This will be Nick s last contact with civilization as he immerses himself in the natural world. The most
significant feature of the setting is the river, clear and smoothly fast in the early morning . It
symbolizes spiritual renewal for Nick, his escape from suffering and the troubled world. Another
important part of the setting are grasshoppers which have turned black, and thus have the same colour
as the burnt land. Their accommodation may indicate Nick s adjustment to the present situation. The
setting also consists of the dark swamp which is forbidding, not to be faced at the moment, as the
fishing there is tragic .
Jane, the protagonist of The Yellow Wallpaper , dominated by her husband, suffers from a nervous
disorder which is enhanced by her feeling of being trapped within the room. She finds a way of
escaping from the uncomfortable reality by writing the journal in which she analyzes the wallpaper,
but also herself and her illness subconsciously. A strange, provoking, formless sort of figure that
seems to skulk about behind that silly and conspicuous front design of the yellow wallpaper gradually
becomes the projection of her imagination. Jane finally recognizes the fact that the woman she sees
behind the wallpaper is really her own frame of mind. She believes that she has at

A Clear Midnight By Walt Whitman
The poem A Clear Midnight by Walt Whitman is only one quatrain, yet the poem enacts a threshold
experience. The time of midnight is the transition from one day to the next. Whitman uses this
moment as a metaphor from corporal existence to spiritual existence. Whitman describes this
transition to be clear as nothing is hidden nor feared. Whitman is trying to correspond the inner and
outer world, the physical and spiritual worlds. To achieve this harmony, Whitman seems to address his
soul; the soul being the idea that connects the physical and spiritual world. One may believe that
Whitman wants the poem to be trigger to his soul dwelling in eternity. A Clear Midnight is
contemplative and deals with the vast subject of human s nature to wonder. This poem is a ... Show

This is the entirety of the poem, the interaction between his physical body and his spiritual soul.
Whitman is essential judging the deepest part of himself, his soul. The soul is so deep that you need
everything quite and peaceful just to think about it. Whitman is looking at his true self, not physical
but spiritually. Whitman is thinking about his essence, what truly make Whitman who he is. The
theme of A Clear Midnight is the connection between life and spirit and how we understand that to be.
As humans, our knowledge of the spiritual world is limited. All humans know about is the physical
world, how things look and how the work. But, human have the wisdom to acknowledge that there is a
spiritual side. The poem is saying that this spiritual side show our true self, and how is it is difficult to
look into. In A Clear Midnight , everything in the world has to calm and quite just to even think about
this spiritual side. Whitman shows that this spiritual side is hard to comprehend and understand as
physical humans. Yet, this complex side of people means the most to humans. It shows how you think
and why you think it, the true man that you

not the first mass shooting to occur in a church. It may even seem that a number of mass shootings has

people love to hear stories from fairytales to ghosts stories. Another constant is that these stories are

Free Doctor Assisted Suicide Within Canada
In late February 2016, a recent debate among Canadian politicians arose on whether mature minors
have the right to access doctor assisted suicide within Canada. In Canadian Paediatric Society1 article,
it explains how the government has a three year deadline in order to create new legislation. However,
the the Canadian Paediatric Society (CPS) believes that this three year deadline Is not enough time to
gather adequate and appropriate information on whether this practice should be allowed to be
extended to minors under the age of 18. Currently, the CPS believes that it will be very hard to
develop any data the experience of physician assisted deaths among adults, within the next 3 years.
The CPS stated that Without that data, and a great deal of other information, it is premature to set a
deadline for enacting legislation (2016). The CBC brought up valuable points to the cause, firstly that
age is arbitrary . Dr. Smith stated in the CBC article that there are some people who are 21, while there
are those that are 14, and have the maturity to give consent, he went on to explain that he feels that
this topic should go to even younger children. Later in the article Conservative MP Mike Cooper said
that this was illogical and that those not old enough to vote should not have the right to choose if they
live or die. The CBC went on to reiterate what the CPS article was about, saying that with such little
data on the subject, and with two very distinct sides to this ethical

Technology Is The World Of Online Education
As the world of online education continues to evolve, schools are incorporating digital learning into
their classrooms. Through diversifying learning and opening communication technology has become
the most unique way to develop the comprehension the school s desire. Student learning and the
outcome of the technology generation has become a common development and looks as though it is
here to stay. This paper discusses the pros for technology as the gateway to education, such as:
diversity technology gives and individuality and responsibility technology makes students have;
however, the most repetitive con this paper discusses and disproves is the idea that technology is a
distraction.
Technology is one of the most controversial and innovative subjects in recent history. It has been said
that it s what will cause us to survive in the near, but distant future. Technology has been entering the
realm of education for years now. Some schools are becoming one on one schools where every student
has their own computer. The increasing population of ELL students have also come to use
technological resources as a way to not only communicate, but to learn the English language.
However, there are those who see technology as a distraction or it does not socialize the students. The
main argument for technology in the classroom is that emerging students should be able to apply
classroom concepts to daily life, and a large part of daily life revolves around technology.

Cosmos Summary
Cosmos Carl Sagan was born in 1934 in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated from the University of
Chicago and studied planets and other elements of space. He was named director of Cornell s
Laboratory for Planetary Studies in 1968, and worked with NASA with choosing where the Viking
probes would touch down on Mars. He wrote Cosmos in 1980 as a way of explaining his ideas to the
world and furthering the points made in his television series, also called Cosmos. Cosmos begins out
with the Cosmos themselves, and how they came to be discovered by humans living on Earth. Sagan
explains how he once worked at a genetics lab, breeding fruit flies to see how their traits were passed
down. He relates it to the evolution of DNA, and how evolution might very well be unique to Earth.
When he talks about the coevolution of plants and animals, he explains how oxygen made from plants
makes organic molecules fall to pieces He says, Despite our fondness for it, it is fundamentally a
poison for unprotected organic matter (Sagan 29). I thought this was interesting because oxygen is
essential for every living thing on Earth. It s what gives us life, but yet at the same time it is slowly
killing us. Next up, Sagan talks about astrology vs. astronomy. Personally, I was not sure that there
was a difference between the two before reading this book. I had always thought that astrology was a
subgroup of astronomy. But, I now understand the difference. Sagan gives a great

Why Do Dogs Lick
Why do Dogs Lick
Dogs normally lick either themselves, humans, other dogs, or just general stuff around their
surroundings to signal something. Licking is part of a dog s life but when excessive this could trigger
other issues. In order for us to understand this behavior we will list a number of reasons why dogs do
this:
1) Affection
Dogs will mostly lick us to show affection and apparently due to the fact that they also like our salty
ski. Licking for affection causes dogs to release pleasurable endorphins that gives them a comforting
and calming feeling. And since dogs have special receptors in their noses and mouths they can actually
feel your mood by interpreting and processing scented molecules existing in human sweat.
2) Grooming

An example is if they keep licking the anal area frequently this could mean the anal glands need to be
expressed or they are suffering from allergies. Another common reason is the skin may be itchy due to
fungal and bacterial infections and while still on the skin issue be keen and look out for any growths
or small abscesses that could cause be discomfort.
6) Healing
Dogs have enzymes in their saliva that can get rid of bacteria when they have wounds on their skin
this also helps in getting rid of dead tissues on the wound. As a stress reliever when dogs lick
themselves they release endorphins which play a role in relaxing and soothing them.
7) Hunger
Most dog owners will agree with this, when a dog is hungry it will lick you to express it is time for
food or drink. Puppies will lick their mother s lips to express hunger. On other hand wild dogs who
hang around in packs may lick the pack leader as a sign of begging for food.
8) Submission
Licking can also be a sign of submission this is because dogs have social orders. An example is a dog
higher in the chain maybe greeted by one lower in chain by being licked on the mouth. It is important
to always check on the dominant dog as excessive licking can become irritating and make them snap
at the submissive

Myers Briggs Type Indicator Assessment
This paper is a critique of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) assessment. The paper starts of
giving general information about the theory, such as the author, publisher, and a brief description of
the history of the assessment. Secondly the paper describes the test and its content, structure, purpose,
administration, and scoring. Technical evaluation is the third section of the paper that discusses
research done on the MBTI throughout the years. The technical evaluation section will talk about the
correct sampling, reliability, and validity of the assessment. The quality of the test, administration,
scoring, and interpretation are addressed in the practical evaluation section of the test. Lastly the paper
talks about the strengths and weakness of the assessment and gives recommendations.
Myers Briggs Type Indicator Assessment The title of the test that will be critiqued throughout this
paper is Myers Briggs Type Indicator Assessment. The assessment was originally created by Katherine
Briggs and her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers based on the Jungian theory by Carl G. Jung. The
Jungian theory says that people s behaviors vary due to differences in the way people perceive things
and judge the things perceived (Whiston, 2005). There are many editions of the test and they have
different publishers. The first published manual form was in 1956 and published by Educational
Testing Service then moving to Consulting Psychologists Press to be published in 1975

The Is The Optimistic View On The World
A liberalist has an optimistic view on the world; precisely human nature. Although instability exists in
today s society, a liberal attempts to restrict this instability. Liberalists believe, Humans are, by nature,
good; they are only led astray by fear and uncertainty (Class notes, 9/21). They believe that every
individual has good qualities, however they sense that fear and uncertainty serve as an obstacle in
growth as a human being. Liberalism seeks progress and liberty, unlike realism, which pursues power
and security . Liberalism realizes that warfare is not inevitable. However, with all the relations among
states, one would assume war is a lot more frequent especially when states do not see eye to eye.

These guarantees of peace and little uncertainty, deepens bonds among individuals and increases
commitments of states to cooperate with each other. Although Transnationalism plays a great role in
keeping a stable international arena among all the states relations, integration is also key to a stable
international arena.
Integration encourages a stable international arena by developing state economies and encouraging
foreign trade. Karl Deutsch, a political scientist, states, Integration means that a sense of community
has been achieved; people have come to agree that their conflicts and problems can be resolved
without resort to large scale physical force (Jackson and Sørensen 103). The transnational ties lead to
a secure community, which means a group of people have become integrated. Once integration is
reached and the sense of community is formed, that group of people can handle the conflict and
problems on their own rather than needing a lot of outside help to resolve the issue. This allows for,
Interdependency and collaboration transfer loyalty from the state to the transnational organization
leading to economic interdependency (Class notes 9/28). Since one state has economic interests in
another state it facilitates greater trust and cooperation because that one state would not go to war with

Procedure For each trial of the test there was a fixed point on the screen. Five hundred dots appeared
in an aperture five degrees (of visual angle) wide. The dots moved ten degrees per second. The dots
were either 45 cd/m^2 or 2.1 cd/m^2 (cd = candela, a measure of brightness), and then moved with
100% coherence (all dots in the same direction) or 2% coherence (only 2% of the dots moved in the
same direction). The design was a 2X2, luminance X coherence, repeated measures factorial design.
There were one hundred trail per condition with a total of four hundred trials per subject. The EEG
was processed with EEGLAB, using a filter of 0.3 45 Hz. Evoked response potentials were calculated
from 500 to 1000 ms, the baseline was corrected, and the current sources were computed by

show that coherence did affect the N2 as predicted, with a larger N2 for Coh1 than Coh100. It also
shows that P1 was not effected by brightness, because there was no significant P1 peak. Brightness
also effected N2 in both latency and amplitude. The N2 was more significant for bright than it was for
dim. The results counter what Bach and Ulrich found, along with our

How Does Hassan Show Loyalty In The Kite Runner
As in society now, trust, loyalty, and redemption are big factors of life. These three themes shape The
Kite Runner. To gain one s trust, one s actions in situations plays a big part. From keeping secrets to
even saving a bus seat for a friend, it is definitely something that takes time to gain. Loyalty, however,
is something in which time is denied to play a factor. Loyalty is more of something people can decide
on. With trust, we can gain accidentally or surprise ourselves with. But with loyalty, it s more of
something that people set their mind to. Just like in The Kite Runner, Hassan is more than anything
loyal to Amir and trusts him. However, Amir trusts Hassan but is not loyal to him as he throws him in
the dirt multiple times. But even with numerous accounts of betrayal, the social factors that separated
Amir and Hassan kind of forced Hassan to be loyal. I thought Hoesseini did a great job defying two
morals in this story, trust and loyalty. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Character Conversions In Arthur Miller s The Crucible
Crucible Character Conversions A situation of severe trial, or in which different elements interact,
leading to the creation of something new. The definition of a crucible describes the shocking events
that occur in the small town of Salem due to suspicion, vengeance, and unspoken judgments. In Arthur
Miller s play The Crucible, characters experience several internal tests and transform as a result of the
choices they make. Mary Warren, one of the many townspeople affected by the witchcraft trials,
cracks under the pressure of trying to defend her unpopular views. After he realizes his grave
mistakes, Reverend Hale become humble and dedicate his time to saving those in jail. Lastly,
Elizabeth Proctor s development allows her to mend a broken marriage and regain her confidence.
Each character s decisions during his or her time of testing greatly affect the result of his or her
transformations. Mary Warren, a submissive, passive, and servile girl, undergoes a negative
transformation when she must decide whether to protect her beliefs or agree with the opinion of the
crowd. A quandary arises when the guilty women must decide whether to tell the truth about trying to
summon spirits or lie to avoid punishment. Mary Warren first faces a test on the strength of her
morality when she disagrees with her friends about lying. Abby, we ve got to tell, cries Mary when she
realizes the effects of their sin. Witchery s a hangin error, a hangin like they done in Boston two year

The Georgia Straight, By Adrian Mack And Miranda Nelson s...
The choices of words, research, and exceptional organization in an essay will amaze an audience,
while a poorly written one will make a very strong argument ineffective. This failure of possessing a
robust argument and being unable to effectively deliver it is expressed through Adrian Mack and
Miranda Nelson s Vancouver Hockey Riot Is a Symptom of a Larger Problem . The authors view the
riot of June 15th, 2011 in a much broader perspective and intend to use the event as a means to attack
the government. Published in the youth oriented magazine, The Georgia Straight, the essay focuses to
appeal to the youth of Vancouver and does this adequately through its aggressive tone. However, due
to the lack of crucial evidence to support their claims and along with the hypocrisy within the piece,
the effectiveness of the essay to express the argument is poor.
Mack and Nelson begin their essay by taking a look at the borderline psychotic society of Vancouver
(Mack and Nelson 209). The essay discusses the alienated community the city has become along with
the foolishness of the youth. This information soon becomes misleading as the blame from the riot is
dismissed from the city and is placed elsewhere. The outlook of the frenzy is taken from a much more
expansive approach and this is evident in the statement: It s a problem that, as always, starts from the
very top (210). Mack and Nelson note that rather than the rioter s being the problem, the economy and
politicians are at fault

Christianity and Life After Death Essay
Christianity and Life After Death
Life after death is an essential part of the Christian religion. Jesus, the son of god, died on the cross
and three days later he rose again from the dead, the resurrection. Hundreds of people saw him. This
has given Christians the hope that when they die, they will live on in another place. Christians believe
in heaven and hell. If a person lives a good moral life they can expect to get to heaven, when they die.
If they live an immoral life then perhaps hell will be an alternative.
Luke 23:42
Then he said, Jesus remember me when you come into your kingdom. Jesus replied, Truly I tell you,
today you will be with me in paradise. Jesus was crucified ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Faith is very important to Christians. No one living today has seen god, and no one has seen heaven or
hell. However, Christians still believe that they will be resurrected. This is faith, belief in something
that cannot be seen.
In Anglican, orthodox and Roman Catholic traditions smearing the sick are a ceremonial action which
can be requested for very ill people. When it is performed on a dying person it is often referred to as
the last rites . It involves rubbing oil on the person s forehead and in the Roman Catholic tradition, the
feet and the hands too. It symbolizes the healing of the mind and the strengthening of spirit and is
accompanied by special prayers.
At the death candles are often placed near the coffin as a symbol for the future life and a reminder of
the light of Christ who is the means of redemption. In Roman Catholic and orthodox services incense,
with its smoke rising upwards as a symbol of prayer, is sprinkled over the coffin
After death the place of burial is marked with a stone, often in the shape of a cross as a reminder of
Jesus death and resurrection. Some churches have a memorial garden where the ashes of cremated
people are placed with plaques, often with Christian symbols and words.
In many towns and villages there is a stone memorial cross to commemorate those who have dies in
the two world wars. Special services

He named this new discovery X Ray because x is the term for an unknown number in mathematics. It
was later called Roentgen Rays although changed back to X Ray . With his new discovery, he found
that the rays would travel through human tissue, but leave a shadow of bone and metal behind. One of
his first experiments was on his wife Bertha s hand with a ring on her finger in 1895. Medical X rays
work by letting fast moving electrons come to a sudden stop on a metal plate. They show up different
on the radiograph because of different absorption rates of different material. The calcium in bones
absorb the most x rays so they appear white on a radiograph, or the film x rays are displayed on,
although other things like tissue, fat and skin absorb it less so they appear grey. Air absorbs the least x
rays so this is why lungs look completely black on a radiograph. Todays x ray machines are much
faster, more efficient and produce much less harmful radiation. Excessive exposure to x rays can be
dangerous but in modern medicine doctors are able to keep us safe with their knowledge on this. The
original x ray machine took 90 minutes and produced 1500 times the radiation as modern x rays.
Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen has made a huge impact on todays technology. It s obvious to see that
inventing the x ray is a big deal, but this was actually a very big accomplishment and made a lot of
new things possible. Without the x ray our ability in the medical world would be

In the early 1970s, researchers called the Lacks family requesting blood samples from Henrietta s

The Shakespearian play Much Ado about Nothing explores the position of women in a patriarchal

how women had to conform to men. The over arching idea of the ideal female was that she was
passive and was accepting of her role in society. This theme is explored throughout the entirety of the

  • 2. Annotation Of Sappho s Fragment 16 The Greeks produced some of the greatest literature in the Archaic Age; stories were dauntless, delightful, and passionate whilst sustaining a worldly and rich composition. Poetry became one of the arts that grew favorable to the citizens of Greece due to the mellow melody of the art while preserving the significant principles and values of their culture. The poem Fragment 16, written by the illustrious poet of the Archaic Age ca. 600 BCE, Sappho, expresses the admiration of Anactoria and her commendable beauty. This poem, translated by Jim Powell, is an example of one of Sappho s renowned lyric poetry, demonstrating the intricate practice of love and passion. Lyric poetry is the art of expressing the poet s private emotions and affairs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the Archaic Age, beauty is sought by the citizens of Greece all throughout the various forms of artistic expression. For example, Greek sculptures before the Archaic Age were widely influenced by the mesopotamians and egyptians, with rigid postures and ceremonious gestures. However, in the Archaic Age, we see a little more change throughout the art of sculpting in Greece. Greek sculptors began incorporating lively, athletic, and healthy attributes to the work of art, such as the Anavysos Kouros, (page 52) a Greek korari sculpture based by the Archaic Age. Health and beauty in art was commenced in the Hellenic Era, almost as much as the religious aspect of the art. In addition, Architecture grew of the idea of beauty and beautiful buildings. Greek temples became very intricate with design and beautifully delicate with aesthetic ethics incorporated into their fundamental principles. Developments such as the post beam triangle construction, pediments, cornice, and stylobate was implemented to integrate beauty into their architecture. An example of this art would be the Temple of Aphaia, (page 49) Aegina, created in 510 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Good, the Bad, and the Milosevic Slobodan Milosevic and many others who were born in WW2 have had troubled childhoods, Milosevic s parents committing suicide which would traumatize any adult . He rose through the ranks of Tito s communist party and survived the late 60 s purges where he became a close ally to the 1980 s party leader Ivan Stambolic. When Slobodan Milosevic was president of Serbia, Time Magazine interviewed him in 1995 just after the Dayton peace accords. His interview focused on four key actions that were affecting former Yugoslavia. Firstly, the atrocities that ethnic Serbs were perpetrating against Bosniak s. Secondly his national speeches that focused on Serbian nationalism that gained him enough power to force the party leader Ivan Stambolic out of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hundreds of years of ethnic violence are dredged up at every meet; everyone thinks theirs is the just cause. From my impartial view there is more than enough blame to go around for all sides . Milosevic came in to power in Yugoslavia because of his adept timing to use the 1987 protest by promoting Serbian nationalism on national television. Milosevic adamantly stated in the interview that none of his books and speeches discussed a strictly Serbian state. The concept of Greater Serbia was conceived in 1884 Ilika Garasanin and was the credo for the secret Serb nationalist group the Black Hand who assassinated Franz Ferdinand . Emulating the same opinion from the Garasanin writing, Milosevic tried to create a Serbia that had complete control over the Yugoslavian area and discredited any country that tried to exempt itself out of the reaches of Serbian control. Bosnia and Herzegovina was illegally proclaimed as an independent state and recognized. Nationalism had been voiced many time s by Milosevic which he uses to voice out against the Bosnian state. With the help from Karadzic another person who was indicted for war crimes, Milosevic was able to gain a stronger foothold in Bosnia Herzegovina. Rape camps were used and created to eliminate the Bosniak bloodline. Thousands of Muslim and Croatian girls and women were raped and made forcibly pregnant in settings including Serbian run concentration camps, of which about twenty are solely rape/death camps ... He has all the proper safety equipment; however, the mountain is flat, with not a lot of places A statement like Western garter snake TETRODOTOXIN (TTX) resistant channels in order to permit them to feed on Western newts misrepresents the mechanism that enables organisms to involve adaptions the process of natural selection. This statement implies that garter snakes underwent a series of powerful deliberations: they thought about the fact that newts could be a possible source of food, figured out that the newts produce TTX, which was poisonous, and then decided, rationally, to develop TTX resistance channels that would permit them to feed on the newts. • 5. The Tragic Hero Of Shakespeare s Hamlet [insert introduction here] Macbeth and Hamlet are both tragic heroes whose fall from greatness disturbs the order of their kingdoms. A tragic hero is a character, one of high esteem, whose internal imperfection leads to their downfall. Both Macbeth and Hamlet are well known and of high social class when an unexpected calamity hits. Hamlet, the son of the king of Denmark, is a charismatic prince most immediate to [the] throne (Shakespeare, Ham I.ii.109). It can be inferred that he lives a rather extravagant and convenient lifestyle. That is, until his father dies and his uncle takes both the throne and Hamlet s mother as wife. From Hamlet s perspective this is a calamity for two reasons: Hamlet was heir to the throne, and his mother ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His reaction upon learning this fate is twofold: Macbeth can wait patiently for legitimate royalty, or he can give into his black and deep desires, and steal the throne from Duncan (X). Hamlet s fate, on the other hand, is to set right the murder of his father(x). It both cases, neither of the characters fates are what killed them, but rather their tragic flaws. While Macbeth ultimately succumbs to his unchecked ambition and rashly murders any potential and unlikely threat to the throne, Hamlet procrastinates and fails to fulfill his revenge in a timely, simplistic manner. Because of his uncontrolled ambition, Macbeth blindly trusts the witches who promise inviolable royalty, murders his closest friend, and kills the family of his nemesis. Hamlet, on the other hand, weary of the legitimacy of the supernatural, puts on an antic disposition and delays his revenge as he searches for confirmation of the ghost s accusations (x). Hamlet s procrastination causes him to miss multiple opportunities at revenge. For example, he chooses not to kill a vulnerable, praying Claudius (x). In this way, Macbeth and Hamlet fall victim to their own actions. Had Macbeth been satisfied with just his throne, he would not have risen any suspicion amongst the others. Similarly, had Hamlet acted in a timely manner and killed Claudius the moment he was made aware of his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Food banks serve and help create an infrastructure of member s agencies, food panties that provide food directly to food insecure seniors and other food insecure populations, soup kitchens and relief organizations. Food banks networks provide food support for over 37 million Americans yearly including 14 million children and over 3 million older adults. The majority of seniors that use food banks receive some social assistance, over 41% lived alone, and over 22% of food bank recipients in food insecure senior households had sought help from food banks, soup kitchens, or other charitable agencies to feed themselves in the past year (AARP, 2014, p. 29 30). ... However, the United states is the only country besides Australia that has refused to embrace the right to food that is perhaps the most basic form of freedom from want (Chilton Rose, 2009, p. 1209) The United States should consider the barriers in adopting this approach, by implementing strategies fostering the adoption of the human rights framework to address food insecurity in the United State for all her citizens, including children, families and older ... • 7. Effects Of Captive Enrichment On Fish Production Effects of Captive Enrichment on Fish Production: Fathead Minnows (Pimephales promelas) Introduction Environmental enrichment for fish in captive environments has not been studied often, unlike that of mammals. However, in the last decade, there have been more attempts to study it. Moreover, structural environmental enrichment is the focal point at this time. Structural environmental enrichment is the addition of a structure (e.g. toys, buoys, artificial vegetation) to the rearing environment (Naslund Johnsson, 2014). Enrichment can affect a variety of aspects of the biology of captive fish, such as, stress, injury, disease susceptibility, aggression, and energy expenditure (Gerber et al., 2015)). A recent study conducted by Naslund and Johnsson (2014), found that environmental enrichment can be divided into groups. These groups include: physical enrichment, sensory enrichment, dietary enrichment, social enrichment, and occupational enrichment. Since, some of those are difficult to test, physical enrichment is what is being studied now. All species of fish are not the same and prefer certain substrates rather than others. Therefore, since the Fathead Minnows that we will be studying and conducting this research on, will depend on what they prefer. The goal of this study is to test whether captive enrichment affects the reproduction success of P. promelas. • 8. Zeffirelli Vs Branagh Hamlet is one of Shakespeare s most well known and most frequently performed plays. Many people have enjoyed reading and watching hamlet, both on stage and theatrically. Directors often add different styles to their pieces to invoke different moods. These styles change as time progresses; predominant in the comparison between Franco Zeffirelli s and Kenneth Branagh s direction of William Shakespeare s Hamlet act 3 scene 1. Zeffirelli s interpretation of Shakespeare s Hamlet act 3 scene 1 is more effective than Branagh s interpretation. Branagh s use of setting is not as effective as other cinematic depictions of the play, as it does not fully enlighten the sad mood. Branagh s style of direction takes away the sad mood. To begin, Branagh uses a colorful setting to take away the emphasis on the surrounding sadness, while maintaining a sad mood. In Branagh s version his portrayal of the setting during the interaction between Hamlet and Ophelia captures the sad mood. Branagh captures Hamlets movement through an array of rare emotion as he takes in Ophelia s words. When Hamlet and Ophelia first see each other, happy music and warm light and bright setting create a light, triumphant mood that showcases their deep love. The statement I did love you once (3.1.14) is spoken with tears in his eyes that capture Hamlet s love. When Ophelia s returns the tokens Hamlet shows his feelings of betrayal and all of his emotions shift as he grapples at understanding. As Hamlet s anger rises, the music shifts to match it. This interpretation suggests that with deep love comes the ability to hurt each other deeply. Shortly after Ophelia s sorrowful speech helps aid in developing a sad mood. The use of setting is not as effective as other depiction of the scene yet it prevails in its intention of creating a sad mood. Next, the setting during Hamlet s soliloquy is what establishes a sad mood. Branagh s makes Hamlet speaks his soliloquy steadily in a large room filled with mirrors. Mirrors are often used to suggest self reflection and clarity. It is ironic Branagh s emotionally susceptible Hamlet is associated with an item of reflection and clarity. Licking is part of a dog s life but when excessive this could trigger other issues. In order for us to understand this behavior we will list a number of reasons why dogs do this: 1) Affection Dogs will mostly lick us to show affection and apparently due to the fact that they also like our salty ski. Puppies will lick their mother s lips to express hunger. On other hand wild dogs who hang around in packs may lick the pack leader as a sign of begging for food. 8) Submission Licking can also be a sign of submission this is because dogs have social orders. But with loyalty, it s more of something that people set their mind to. Just like in The Kite Runner, Hassan is more than anything loyal to Amir and trusts him. However, Amir trusts Hassan but is not loyal to him as he throws him in the dirt multiple times. But even with numerous accounts of betrayal, the social factors that separated Amir and Hassan kind of forced Hassan to be loyal. I thought Hoesseini did a great job defying two morals in this story, trust and loyalty. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 29. The Georgia Straight, By Adrian Mack And Miranda Nelson s... The choices of words, research, and exceptional organization in an essay will amaze an audience, while a poorly written one will make a very strong argument ineffective. This failure of possessing a robust argument and being unable to effectively deliver it is expressed through Adrian Mack and Miranda Nelson s Vancouver Hockey Riot Is a Symptom of a Larger Problem . The authors view the riot of June 15th, 2011 in a much broader perspective and intend to use the event as a means to attack the government. Published in the youth oriented magazine, The Georgia Straight, the essay focuses to appeal to the youth of Vancouver and does this adequately through its aggressive tone. However, due to the lack of crucial evidence to support their claims and along with the hypocrisy within the piece, the effectiveness of the essay to express the argument is poor. Mack and Nelson begin their essay by taking a look at the borderline psychotic society of Vancouver (Mack and Nelson 209). The essay discusses the alienated community the city has become along with the foolishness of the youth. This information soon becomes misleading as the blame from the riot is dismissed from the city and is placed elsewhere. The outlook of the frenzy is taken from a much more expansive approach and this is evident in the statement: It s a problem that, as always, starts from the very top (210). Mack and Nelson note that rather than the rioter s being the problem, the economy and politicians are at fault ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Christianity and Life After Death Essay Christianity and Life After Death Life after death is an essential part of the Christian religion. Jesus, the son of god, died on the cross and three days later he rose again from the dead, the resurrection. Hundreds of people saw him. This has given Christians the hope that when they die, they will live on in another place. Christians believe in heaven and hell. If a person lives a good moral life they can expect to get to heaven, when they die. If they live an immoral life then perhaps hell will be an alternative. His family moved to Apeldoorn in the Netherlands, where we went to Institute of Martinus Herman van Doorn, a boarding school. He did not show any special aptitude, but he had a fascination with nature and loved roaming the countryside and walking through forests. Later he attended a technical school in Utrecht, but unfortunately was unfairly expelled for allegedly drawing a rude caricature of one of the teachers, which was in fact drawn by another student. He then entered the University of Utrecht in 1865 to study physics. He did not have the required credentials to enter the University, but he heard he could enter by passing an exam. He ... It was later called Roentgen Rays although changed back to X Ray . With his new discovery, he found that the rays would travel through human tissue, but leave a shadow of bone and metal behind. One of his first experiments was on his wife Bertha s hand with a ring on her finger in 1895. Medical X rays work by letting fast moving electrons come to a sudden stop on a metal plate. They show up different on the radiograph because of different absorption rates of different material. The calcium in bones absorb the most x rays so they appear white on a radiograph, or the film x rays are displayed on, although other things like tissue, fat and skin absorb it less so they appear grey. Air absorbs the least x rays so this is why lungs look completely black on a radiograph. Todays x ray machines are much faster, more efficient and produce much less harmful radiation. Excessive exposure to x rays can be dangerous but in modern medicine doctors are able to keep us safe with their knowledge on this. The original x ray machine took 90 minutes and produced 1500 times the radiation as modern x rays. Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen has made a huge impact on todays technology. It s obvious to see that inventing the x ray is a big deal, but this was actually a very big accomplishment and made a lot of new things possible. In the beginning, newspapers would propose a Helen Lane or Helen Larson as the donator of the cells, but it wasn t long before Henrietta Lacks was named at the originator of the cells. The family was not informed for many years about this (Grady, Zielinski). In the early 1970s, researchers called the Lacks family requesting blood samples from Henrietta s family so as to determine which cells were HeLa cells as they had begun contaminating other cell cultures in labs. One has to wonder if the need to identify HeLa cells from other cells hadn t arisen, than perhaps the Lacks family would have never been told of impact of their mother s cells. This play demonstrates how women in Elizabethan society were expected to behave in a passive manner, how the men s opinion was accepted over the females and how women had to conform to men. The over arching idea of the ideal female was that she was passive and was accepting of her role in society. This theme is explored throughout the entirety of the play but is highly demonstrated in Act one scene one of the play.
