Bilingual And Esol Programs Summary
The big ideas of this presentation is to inform us on the significance of Bilingual and ESOL programs.
In these videos Peter Russe, whom is a Multi Cultural Education Training advocate Co Director, gives
us a run through on the history of the programs and tells us about all the movements and acts that

education rights for minority children. Peter explains both sides of the table by telling us what they
attitudes were on both sides.
Minority students struggle to learn when they are not given proper tools to learn in their own native
language. The general notion was that schools felt that they didn t have to change, nonetheless the kids

Pagnostic Schizogony Paper
Prompt and accurate diagnosis is critical to the effective management of malaria. The global impact of
malaria has spurred interest in developing effective diagnostic strategies not only for resource limited
areas where malaria is a substantial burden on society, but also in developed countries, where malaria
diagnostic expertise is often lacking [4,5]. Malaria diagnosis involves identifying malaria parasites or
antigens/products in patient blood. Although this may seem simple, the diagnostic efficacy is subject
to many factors. The different forms of the 5 malaria species; the different stages of erythrocytic
schizogony, the endemicity of different species, the interrelation between levels of transmission,

Discuss Epistemology And Its Relevance
Discuss epistemology and its relevance to intelligence analysis. Select at least two principal ways of
knowing, and describe their respective characteristics/attributes, strengths, weaknesses, and potential
for improving the quality of intelligence analysis.
Merriam Webster defines epistemology as the study of the nature, origin, and limits of human
knowledge. As applied to intelligence, the application of epistemology becomes highly important
when analysts are making judgements while assessing information that is not fully factual. Analysts
work with information that can be ambiguous, deceptive, conflicting, and even absent; yet, they are
required to produce intelligence products that are reliable enough for policymakers to act upon and
make decisions. In these situations, the analyst must make good use of epistemology to ensure that the
intelligence judgements are reliable. Regarding intelligence analysis, there are four epistemologies, or
ways of knowing , that are used: authority, habit of thought, rationalism, and empiricism. Science is a
fifth epistemology that combines attributes of rationalism and empiricism. An analyst must know
which epistemology he or she used to understand the errors that may be made and the self correcting
mechanisms needed to improve reliability. Authoritative epistemology occurs when an analyst relies
on another person s authority to make a judgement. Their basis of knowledge resides in a reference to

Merton Model Of Social Deviance
Merton, (1938) model of social deviance desires to refute Freudians and similar theorists that
hypothesize biological abnormalities as a valid explanation for deviance. Their theory further posits
that institutions only exist to channel deviance through some form of utilitarian calculus or unreasoned
conditioning (p. 680). That is, using punishment to deter deviance rather using it as a form of
retribution. Merton, instead, wants to articulate how institutions can itself prompt deviance, and
sustain a significant degree of control over it. He proposes a 2 phase model (673) on how society
structures individual behavior: the first phase is the cultural goal , the putative end for which we ought
to struggle. The second aspect is institutional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rather, these postmodernists focus on the fragmented and heterogeneous nature of our culture, to
suggest that punks are not so much engaging in resistance but ironically reflecting the culture, they
putatively oppose themselves. That television, radio, magazines, pamphlets, virtual media such as the
Internet (Stahl, 1999) helps to create and prolong subculture. Instead, for postmodernists, this intense
codependence of subculture members of the media indicates how closely punks embody our present,
media obsessed moment. A structuralist neo Marxist account of punks was that they were enacting
genuine resistance and disaffection of society. But, as refigured by postmodern theorists as a form of
subcultural capital, an alternative hierarchy in which the axes of age, gender, sexuality and race are all
employed in order to keep the determinations of class, income and occupation at bay (Stahl, 1999).
Lewin and Williams (2009) ethnographic study of the punk community in the southeastern United
States agrees with the postmodernist claim that concerns about authenticity are critical to punk self
identification, and places punks into conflict with those very same post modernists. They position
authenticity in terms familiar from anomie

Theme Of Green Light In The Great Gatsby
The American dream is an ideology in which success can be achieved by any individual through
hardwork and dedication, however in F. Scott Fitzgerald s allusive novel, The Great Gatsby, the
American dream proves to be unattainable. In the novel, the green light represents Gatsby s fiery
desire to own Daisy and the valley of ashes represents the turmoil faced by the working class in order
to achieve the American dream. Fitzgerald effectively uses the glowing green light at the end of the
Buchanan s dock and the desolate wasteland that is the valley of ashes as symbols, in order to shape
and reinforce the theme of the impossible pursuit of the American dream. Throughout the novel, there
are numerous mentions of the glowing green light and its symbolic representation of hope. Located at
the end of the Buchanan s dock, Gatsby associates this light with Daisy and his dream of having her
all to himself. At night, Gatsby stands on his blue lawn and looks out towards the green light, reaching
up as if he is trying to grasp it but of course, the distance is preventing him to do so. He puts Daisy on
the highest of pedestals and sees her as this ray of light, this trophy girl that is his to win if only he
could close the distance between them. This is evident when Nick first sees Gatsby and states He
stretched out his arms towards the dark water in a curious way [...] Involuntarily I glanced seaward
and distinguished nothing except a single green light, minute and far away

Blood Glucose Viscosity Levels Of Non Diabetics And Diabetics
Blood Glucose Absorbance Levels of Non Diabetics and Diabetics Over 120 Minutes After Food

Alexis Lester

Dr. Welch
Abstract Individuals with diabetes are affected by elevated blood glucose levels in the bloodstream
due to inefficient glucose uptake by cells. Blood glucose levels are influenced by many things,
especially meals and their glucose content. Therefore, if diabetics cannot correctly regulate their blood
glucose levels, particularly after meals, then their readings will be higher than non diabetic levels. In
the experiment, the absorbance of simulated blood glucose levels of both diabetic and non diabetic
people in 120 minutes following a meal was measured using a spectrophotometer. The blood glucose
levels of diabetics were higher than that of non diabetics throughout the entire course of 120 minutes,
including at peak levels occurring at 60 minutes. The cause of this was a greater abundance of
molecules in the highly concentrated diabetic solutions, which were ready to absorb more light. This
demonstrates the ineffectiveness of diabetic metabolic pathways for utilizing glucose compared to that
of non diabetics. This research can be taken further to analyze how different types of food influence
blood glucose levels.

Analysis Of The Minstrel Shows
Saxton portrays the minstrel shows as entertainment that provided a ground for topics difficult to
handle as a means of social commentary for the urban working class to level their cultural capital with
elite planters. The minstrel shows first became popular as they provided a glimpse into the culture
taking place in the developing urban cities of the time. Saxton writes that, through that window
appeared cultural identifications and hostilities, ethnic satire, and social and political commentary of
wide ranging, sometimes radical character. (pg. 68) The founders of minstrelsy were northern and
urban; they defied the traditional, religious lifestyles and sought unconventional occupations in the
world of entertainment. These men had to find something new and exciting that would stand out in the
inhospitable entertainment world. They believed that the satirical aspect of blackface minstrelsy would
allow for such a freedom of subject matter that would permit topics that were deemed to be prohibited.
Shows referenced forbidden topics such as homosexuality and masturbation. Saxton notes that the
point here is not the prevalence of homosexuality, but the tolerance of sexuality in general, the realism
and the flexibility of standards that flourished behind the false facade of blackface presentation. (pg.
73) The minstrels borrowed the music and dance of slaves and altered them sufficiently to be more
acceptable to the white, urban class. As the show developed, it transformed

Teaching English As A Second Or Foreign Language
In addition to teaching students through a variety of methods, teachers should also provide students
with the tools necessary for them to be autonomous learners. According to Celce Murcia s Teaching
English as a Second or Foreign Language, one of the greatest challenges facing both educators and
learners is building ELL s academic vocabularies (Celce Murcia et al., 2013, p. 164). According to
Larson (2013), active engagement encourages students to know definitions of words, make
connections between and among words and concepts, and acquire strategies to become autonomous
(Larson, 2013, p. 17). In order to do so, word walls are one type of strategy Larson proposed. Word
walls allow students a visual aid. Students can place words according to three tiers: basic, general
academic words, and content specific words. For example, dirt is a basic word, soil is a general
academic word, and sediment is a content specific word. Words could also be organized
alphabetically, by theme, or by unit. Another strategy Larson encourages is matching activities
(Larson et al, 2013). This allows students to focus on the morphology of words. For example, if
students are given a word and have to locate their peers with the same Latin root or prefix, they learn
how to determine meanings based on parts of a word. If one student had the word, unknown, and
another student had the word, unlucky, they would be morphological partners because both words
contain the prefix, un.

A Study On Bacterial Transformation
Bacterial Transformation
Fiona Obas

U42 Abstract
DNA encodes the genetic instructions for cells to carry out their daily activities. DNA can come in
many forms; plasmids for example are small circular DNA molecules found in most bacterial cells.
Though plasmids may not be essential for the life of bacteria, it can give cells resistance in foreign
environments. For the purpose of this experiment, an ampicillin resistant plasmid is introduced to E.
coli. This is done through a process of genetic engineering called transformation. Transformation
works through the uptake, incorporation, and expression of a foreign gene to alter the genetic code of
a cell. Three conditions are needed for successful transformation: a host, a vector, and a technique to
identify the transformed cells. E. coli is used in this experiment as the host (E. coli is commonly used
in biotechnology due to its rapid rate of growth and short reproduction time). A vector mediates the
transfer of foreign DNA into the host cell. Plasmids are commonly used vectors that will also be used
in this experiment. The procedure of tagging is used in this experiment to differentiate the transformed
cells from those that were not. The learning objectives of this experiment are to: observe the process
of bacterial transformation in an experiment; and demonstrate a change in phenotype due to uptake
and expression of the genes in a known plasmid.

Gender Inequality Throughout Middle School And High School
F****ism
Gender inequality is an issue that has been affecting our world for a very long time. We see it all
throughout history, from women entering the workforce for the first time, to women protesting on the
street, fighting for the right to vote. An article in the Wall Street Journal reports that a man who works
full time earns a median of $889 a week, a woman who works full time earns a median of $721 a
week. That s a $168 difference between males and females in the workforce. Also, what about the
horrible names that girls are called throughout middle school and high school? Slut, hoe, whore,
skank, all of these judgmental names are what women are called every day, whether it s true or not.

This not only states that women are weaker and should be thrown to the side, but the use of thrust to
the wall suggests that they feel that women are only good for sex. Romeo and Juliet took place in the
middle to late fourteenth century. Some people today still have the same views on women, and this
happened more than 650 years ago. The fact that these views are still in existence in regards to women
shows that even though we are trying to change, we still have a long way to go. As the books were set
closer to the present, we began to learn about injustices in the 1930s. In Harper Lee s To kill a
Mockingbird, Scout, Jem, and Dill are playing with a tire near the Radley s house. Scout got in the tire
and Jem pushes her, but she couldn t stop and ended up on the Radley s front steps. Scout gets scared
and runs back to Jem and Dill without the tire, and Jem had to get it. See there? Jem was scowling
triumphantly. Nothin to it. I swear, Scout, sometimes you act so much like a girl it s mortifyin (50).
The message this quote sends us is that being a girl is a bad thing. Anyone can get scared, but Jem is
saying that just because Scout is scared, she s acting like a girl. Not only did he say that, but he s
mortified about it. One last example of sexual innuendo that puts

The Video Is The Prolongation Of Gender Norms And The...
The most problematic aspect of the video is the prolongation of gender norms and the overarching
perception that an unmarried woman must constantly be thinking about her future husband and
planning out the things he has to do to win her heart. The traditional gender role Trainor sings of
shares the notion he should take you on a date, and not forget flowers every anniversary; because if he
treats her Like a lady, you ll be the perfect wife/ Buying groceries, and Buy buying what you need.
Even though Trainor has done the easy part in buying the groceries and parading around like the
perfect wife, she declares she has never learned to cook, and her man should not expect her to be
thinking I ll be home and baking apple pies. Moreover, he has to treat her like a lady, even when she s
acting crazy, because you re never wrong, so why disagree? Yet he has to do his part in telling the
perfect wife, everything s alright, and of course, she will honestly reply with Buy me a ring. Such
lyrics support the man will never be right, and should always apologize even if he knows she is
wrong, another inequality depicted through gender roles.
As expected, it seems Trainor is quite optimistic in sharing the message that everyone is different and
should be accepted just the way they are. Though there is controversy surrounding All About That
Bass, it is a prime example of Trainor suggesting that bodily figure is one of many things that should

Introvert Dog and Cat. Coffee and Tea. Great Gatsby and Catcher in the Rye. Everyone knows there
are two types of people in the world. What are they? . This question is quite easy to answer and refers
to human behavioural quirks and nature, Introverts and Extroverts. Surrounding the two vague types
are many stereotypes, but this will be addressing and explaining what it truly means to be an Introvert.
Introverts are typically more complex characters as a whole compared to Extroverts, the dynamics
between the two already a major difference. When a person hears Introvert they think Alone , Hates
People , Pessimist and Boring , whilst thinking Extroverts, on the other hand, as Happy , Friendly ,
Optimists , and Fun two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But when Introverts give themselves permission to seek the solitude they crave, life becomes lighter
and better. Social situations are more bearable. Even small talk is easier to endure when they ve
fortified themselves with solitude. Introverts are known for being quiet, another universal quirk.
Introverts are written economists suffering in a world of verbal hodgepodge. Unfortunately, this has
lead to awkward confrontations like Are you shy? or Why are you so quiet? . Now it s time to debunk
the typical Introvert myths. The most common one is that being Introverted means you re shy, and
often use the two words interchangeably. Both introverts and shy people tend to avoid socializing at
times, but they do so for different reasons. Introverts often stay on the sidelines at social events
because socializing drains their energy, whilst shy people tend to avoid going to unnecessary social
events at all because of their fear of the unknown. Instead of worrying about being drained, they re
concerned about making a mess of themselves or being rejected / judged. The next most common is
that Introverts are socially awkward. People assume that because you are Introverted, you don t know
how to behave or act socially. Many introverts have superior social skills. They are confident,
assertive, and interesting to talk to. People don t realize this because they assume everyone with good
social skills is an extrovert.

Thalassotherapy Therapeutic Treatment
Thalassotherapy is a hydrotherapeutic treatment meaning it uses external application of water for a
health or beauty benefit. It involves using the natural properties of the seawater and ocean dwelling
plants for skin rejuvenation. Having originated in France, thalassotherapy is considered a natural
remedy, used with a combination of mineral elements from seawater, skin care products and hot water.
It is believed that the sea water used in thalassotherapy is similar in electrolyte concentration to that of
the blood plasma in the body. Apparently this allows for greater absorption of essential trace elements;
like magnesium, potassium, calcium and other mineral salts, directly into the skin. The reaction of

The Divine Humanity Though God(s) are thought of as innocent and fair, does that mean that they
always behave that way? Flood stories are a common practice in writing for many cultures; they are
used for the destruction of mankind and a taught lesson to those in humanity. In the Bible it is shown
the wickedness of mankind heart verse the obnoxious disaster the people in the story of Gilgamesh
had created, which nevertheless lead to the floods. Not knowing what the outcome would lead to, the
enthusiastic men who are a major part of the stories went for this long journey. It is also shown the
God of the Bible who is sorrowful for the men he has created verse the Gods who are angry with their
dwellers.
Before the floods occurred the Gods had to make a decision regarding their people; what was their
punishment for their crimes going to be? The Bible expresses God s sadness for his people. He is lost
for words at how they think and react to his presence. As emphasized, The Lord saw that the
wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was
only evil continually (Gen 6. 5). In Gilgamesh the Gods are not saddened by their dwellers like The
Lord, instead they were angry at the catastrophic lifestyle the people were living. In both cases though,
the Gods were put through enough and came to the conclusion of the floods; with teaching the lesson

There s something about taking a plow and breaking new ground. It gives you energy (Kesey qtd. in

One Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest. In the process of writing the book, Kesey embarked with ambitious
goal of ultimately reshaping American society s approach to established institutions. Never before had
a major American work illustrated conformity in American medical consortiums in such a subversive

women who drink were seen as sexual models, which meant women got spend their own freedom, got

saw alcohol as a rich people s beverage, it was seen as classy. Women were dressed classy, as career

Core English 11
25 November 2015 Fictitious: An egotistic thing In the play The Crucible by Arthur Miller, dishonesty
played a role as an egotistic thing. Girls lied to save their lives and their love ones. John Proctor lied to
his wife, he thought he is being deceitful to his wife and it would be better than saying the truth and
hurt his wife. That s the reason why Elizabeth get cold towards John. Mary Warren lied that John
threat her to save Elizabeth. Rev. Parris lied to judges, he said he didn t saw any of girls naked while
when Mr. Hale arrived at Salem Rev. Parris told him he saw the girls dancing and he saw one girl
naked. The girls started the lies and brought throughout the whole play. Girls brought up the
Witchcraft Trial in Salem. The fact that fraud played a big role throughout the play, characters like
Abigail girls lied to the court, people who were charge with witchcrafts were guiltless, they ve
suffered, hanged, and died because of lies. In the whole play of The Crucible dishonesty is the number

People who choose to lie to save their lives are the one who actually innocents. Dishonesty is the only
way to save their lives from hanging or death, they choose to lie instead of telling the truth because if
they tell the truth people in Salem and the Judges won t believe them. As for the girls, they lied to save
their lives and their beloved. They want to have reputation in the community which is not given to

A Prayer For Owen Meany Analysis
How many people are willing to practice their own death? Not many, right? It sounds strange, but one
person in particular was eager to do just that Owen Meany. In John Irving s A Prayer for Owen Meany,
Owen makes many sacrifices, his biggest sacrifice being his own life. In the beginning of the novel,
Owen comes across as slightly different with his minuscule size and high pitched voice, but as the
novel progresses and Owen ages, his inhuman qualities become more and more prevalent, eventually
leading to the biggest indicator of all his death. In the novel, Owen Meany is willingly able to plan the
sacrifice of his own life in order to save the lives of others, showing he is a supernatural being. Owen
Meany was predestined to be a savior for the Vietnamese children and he had been preparing for this
sacrifice his entire life. From the time he was born, Owen was always special. His parents admitted
that he was unnatural when Mr. Meany exclaimed, She just conceived a child like the Christ Child.
(Irving 545). This shows that Owen s parents did not purposefully conceive him, but he was born for a
greater purpose. Later on in Owen s life, he has a vision of his grave and how he will die, which leads
him to prepare for his death. He saw his death so vividly, he knew Johnny would be present, therefore
he involves Johnny in his practice. Johnny explains, We practiced the shot for three or four days in a
row; of course, my part in this exercise was extremely limited, but I

Viet Cong Tunnel Essay
To a large extent, the Viet Cong tunnel system did contribute to the defeat of the Americans during the
Vietnam War between 1965 and 1969. This was so because of the many problems that were facing the
US forces when fighting the war in Vietnam. It could be possible that one of the problems was the fact
that the Viet Cong were fighting using guerilla tactics. However, it led to a great lack of trust among
the Vietnamese and the Americans as it was difficult to distinguish between the real Vietnamese
civilians and the Viet Cong soldiers in disguise. This essay will aim to discuss the Viet Cong tunnel
system and how they contributed to the Americans defeat and we will have close reference to this
essay.
It all began when the Americans started carrying out the Search and Destroy Missions [Source C] as
the US lost the hearts and the minds of the Vietnamese people through these missions. However, the
terrain had made life more difficult for the US forces as there was a deal of Vietnam that was covered
in the jungle, swamp and also paddy fields. Guerilla tactics were used by the Viet Cong against the
Americans [Source G] and they were on a small scale taking irregular actions. This therefore, proved
to be effective against the Americans because it was very demoralizing for them as they could not

The Roman Province Of Dacia
The Roman province of Dacia consisted of most of Romania from approximately 100 to 271 A.D. The
Daco Roman was overran again and again by barbarian conquerors. Many migrants traveled to
Romania. In the 5th and 6th century two major events happened. First in the 5th century, came the
Huns and in the 6th century they were followed by the Avars. The Huns were a nomadic tribe whose
origin is unknown but, most likely, they came from somewhere between the eastern edge of the Altai
Mountains and the Caspian Sea, roughly modern Kazakhstan (Kelly, 45). The Avars were a
confederation of heterogeneous (diverse or varied) people consisting of Rouran, Hephthalites, and
Turkic Oghuric races who migrated to the region of the Pontic Grass Steppe (an area corresponding to
modern day Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan) from Central Asia after the fall of the Asiatic Rouran
Empire in 552 CE. After the Huns and Avars came the Slavs which were designates an ethnic group of
people who share a long term cultural continuity and who speak a set of related languages known as
the Slavic languages. After the Huns, Slavs and Avars came, Romania the slowly settled down and a
feudal order was born. Around the 8 10th century, Eastern Orthodox Christianity was brought amongst
the Romanians by the mastery of the Bulgarian Empire. The Hungarian empire had overruled
Transylvania in or around the 11th century. By the time the 16th century rolled around, the well

The Destructive Power of Pain Essay
The Destructive Power of Pain
There are two types of pain that we all experience, physical and emotional (or mental). Physical pain
is a signal of the nerves; therefore it is something that is tangible, something that we can prove is there
and something that we can feel. Emotional pain is hurt on the inside of one s soul. It cannot be
expressed; it is only a feeling in the soul. According to the Christian view, pain makes someone a
better person. However, some people disagree with this because they believe that pain destroys a
human being s self worth.
Physical pain is a signal given by nerves that an organism is in a potentially hurtful environment. This
is the type of pain that hospital in patients experience, and it often ... Show more content on

Jim felt that no one could do anything to comfort him, and that this severe pain would continue for the
rest of his life. He became very depressed and he no longer wanted to go on living life, and never
thought about the pain that he was causing his family or how his death would effect them. The pain
totally changed this once happy go lucky man into a hard, depressed, and uncaring person. He was
unable to walk, which made him unable to support himself and his family. Because of one small
accident, Jim Jones life was changed forever, and he will live with this horrid pain until death.
Although physical pain is tangible and can really be felt and explained to others, the results of being in
physical pain for long periods of time also tends to cause a person to suffer from emotional pain.
Emotional pain can, in some cases, be more destructive than physical pain. A doctor cannot heal
emotional pain; it is something that a person must let heal over time with the help of God and their
friends and family. Emotional pain is an aching in one s heart or soul that can t be cured by
conventional medicine, but rather a change of his behavior and self worth. It comes about in many
ways, whether from a lost job or family member, a feeling of uselessness that one feels he gives to
society, or sheer depression. Take Billy Bob for example. When he lost his job as a gas attendant for

The Strategies For Development Today
Strategies for Development Today Different views on development that are seen today are based on
the previous lessons learned from strategies used in the past. Protectionism was a strategy used in the
past where countries created steep barriers for imports from other countries. They used this strategy to
help protect their starting industries. Countries didn t open up international market competition until
they were sure they were ready to compete profitably against them. This strategy worked successfully
for the United States, Germany, and Japan. In the second half of the twentieth century, modern day
strategies for development were of influence. Dominant strategies for development used today are
import substitution, state socialism, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The goal was to catch up their technology with international producers to lower trade barriers over
time. Another advantage of import substitution was the balance of payments. Since the country
produced domestic goods that were once imported, this led to more imports of technology without
causing a deficit. Although import substitution did work out for some countries, it did have its
weaknesses towards the late twentieth century. These countries shifted from agriculture production to
manufacturing goods, which increased global agricultural prices and put food importers in a tough
situation. Another problem was that the domestic production of these countries did not become
competitive with the international markets. Small consumer markets could not reach the production of
important goods for the economies of larger domestic markets or international markets. Also, since
domestic producers do not have competition from foreign producers this reduces the motivation for
technology improvement. This did not prepare firms for the international market, instead it made them
remain incompetent or weak. When the state allocates market resources instead of allowing the market
to regulate the supply and demand of the resources is an alternative strategy for development called
state socialism. This strategy spread after World War II to

introduced its revolutionary phone as iPhone in 2007, which made all consumer electronics makers to
think out of the current imagination. From then on, phones used in the last decade started to become
smartphones, TVs to smart TVs and on that chain, by now we have smart watches and smart homes

The counseling field is ever growing with many employment opportunities, but yet it is very
competitive. Mental health counseling is one of the specializations in the counseling field. The
American Mental Health Counselors Association stated that mental health counselors are highly
skilled professionals who provide flexible, consumer oriented therapy (2016). Mental health
counselors offer a wide range of services, such as: assessment and diagnosis, psychotherapy, treatment

treatment, psychoeducational and prevention programs and crisis Management (American Mental

the American Counseling Association and legal requirements in the state of South Carolina and the

The Ginans Of The Pirs
In the Ginans, it is common to find usage of terminology and symbolism, which has a Hindu
background. This is because the majority of the addressees of the Pirs were Hindus and therefore the
Pirs incorporated symbolism, terminology, themes and ideas prevalent within the local milieu.
However, the underlying message in these verses is congruent with the teachings of Islam and
particularly with the Ismaili Tarīqah.
Acculturation, leading to a fusion of Ismaili beliefs and Hindu concepts to form the Ismaili belief
system, is undoubtedly a prominent feature of, but certainly not exclusive to, the Ginanic approach of
da wa (propagation of Faith). Similar traits are evident in other Ismaili traditions. For example, during
the Fatimide period, there was a synthesis of Ismaili beliefs with Neoplatonic and Gnostic ideas, while
during the Alamūt period there was an assimilation of Ismaili concepts with Sufism. The reason
behind this approach is clearly straightforward to propagate the message of the Ismaili Faith within the
framework of the local milieu to acquire optimum results. This approach aptly falls within the scope
of the formula for da wa, prescribed by the Holy Qur an:
Invite (all) to the Way of thy Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching; and argue with them in ways
that are best and most gracious: for thy Lord knoweth best, who have strayed from His Path, and who
receive guidance.

A Summary Of Operant Conditioning ABA
ABA is built on B.F. Skinner s theory of operant conditioning: the idea that behavior can be taught by
controlling the consequences to actions. The primary way that the teaching is performed is through the
use of reinforcements and the methods of Imitation, shaping, and chaining to acquire new behavior
and either increase or decrease the likelihood of a certain behaviors. Modeling and imitation are two
learning methods that goes together, you can not have one without the other. These methods refers to
mimicking through observation and later enacting the observed behavior or actions of others.
Modeling can be defined as an antecedent stimulus that evokes the imitative behavior. The model must
serve as a controlling variable for the imitative behavior (Cooper et al. 2007, p.421). If you ever

going in with the intent to kill or having their guns drawn. There is a big difference when it comes to
how a white person is handled by the justice department, the media even as opposed to how black
people are handled. Just about every black man or woman that lost their life to a law enforcement
officer , their past was drug up and seared across the new as if because someone committed a crime
even a petty crime that somehow this justified their death. Prime example, in June Dylan Roof a 21
year old white man went inside of a church in Charleston, S.C. killing nine people, when he was

Reader Response In The Kite Runner By Khaled Hosseini
The Kite Runner Reader Response
Khaled Hosseini, the author of The Kite Runner, has a writing style unique to him in a way that the
majority of his sentences are short and non complex. Although there are numerous words in Farsi,
most are explained right away to limit confusion. You look khoshteep , Baba said. Handsome (
Hosseini 166). Hosseini incorporates an abundance of figurative language in his book, an example of
this is repetition. The line, There is a way to be good again is said several times throughout the book to
show its significance in the novel (Hosseini 2). Figurative language is extremely important because it
adds a meaning and value that is much stronger than saying it differently.
Hosseini uses many symbols in his novel. One, in particular, shows the loss of friendship between
Amir and Hassan, the pomegranate tree. In the beginning, Amir and Hassan would go to the tree to
read stories and eat pomegranates. After school, Hassan and I climbed its branches and snatched its
bloodred pomegranates (Hosseini 27 28). After Hassan had been raped, Amir and Hassan had gone
back to the tree but this time the loss of friendship starts to show through. When Amir throws
pomegranates at Hassan, it is him trying to get Haasan to punish Amir for what he had done wrong.
Hit me back! I spat. Hit me back, goddamn you ! I wished he would. I wished he d give me the
punishment I craved, so maybe I d finally sleep at night (Hosseini 92). Amir needs the punishment he
deserves so badly from the awful things he did and now wants to live up to. Once Amir goes back to
visit his home in Kabul, he finds the pomegranate tree that once was a symbol of friendship, and now
the loss of just that. Hassan said in his letter that the pomegranate tree hadn t borne fruit in years.
Looking at the wilted, leafless tree, I doubted it ever would again (Hosseini 264). The pomegranate
tree shows how during their friendship, the tree was beautiful and full of life. Now that Amir has
betrayed Hassan and left him to be killed, the tree is now lifeless and no fruit to be eaten symbolizing
the end of their relationship.
Another symbol that is extremely important is the flying of kites. This is significant because it is

In addition, enhanced survivability and both strategic and operational transportability by sea and air
are also crucial for the JLTV project requirements. The primary mission of the Joint Light Tactical
Vehicle (JLTV) is to provide protected, sustained, and networked light tactical mobility to the Joint
forces, capable of worldwide deployment across the full spectrum of military operations and mission
profiles under all weather and terrain conditions.
In addition, it has been designed that the JLTV would support C3 in both immobile and mobile modes,
various wider ranges in complex and dynamic operational environments.
Nevertheless, initial concept composed of three variants based on different payload capabilities, four
passenger Combat Tactical Vehicle (CTV) and a two passenger Combat Support Vehicle (CSV)
variants were survived as a final choice. The Joint Requirements Oversight Council (JROC) of the
DoD that provides a close oversight to joint acquisition programs and makes recommendations to the
Defense Acquisition Board has approved the JLTV program which would be led by the Army in
November 2006.
It was notable that, even though, joint Army/Marine Corps had intended to issue a Request for

executive, John Young disapproved the issuance of the RFP due to deep concern on funding adequacy,
technical maturity, and shifting requirements.

Profanity In Schools
Profanity in Schools
Walking down the halls of almost any junior high or high school, you ll often hear students swearing
as they carry on a normal conversation. Should schools have stricter rules on the use of cuss words
while in school? There is a fine line between having the freedom to say what you want and having
obscene or offensive language.
The use of profanity has increased in the past couple of decades. According to Kristin Jay, a
psychologist at Marist College who has collected data on public swearing, this is partly because, ...The
media we used to consume were much more sanitized, and we had fewer things to choose from and

The Sons of Freedom are a small radical group that diverged from a religious sect known as the
Doukhobors. This zealous and revivalist subsect evolved from the Doukhobors only to gain the
government s attention for their extremely radical acts. They have initiated bombings, arson, nudist
parades, and hunger strikes, all in protest to the land ownership and registration laws of Canada. Such
obscene and violent demonstrations have caused a great deal of conflict between the Sons of Freedom
and the Canadian government s legal system and have also generated much public resentment.
However, should the State of Canada have imposed laws upon this minority group that blatantly
conflicted with their religious beliefs?

One law, requiring an oath of allegiance to the Crown (to secure their land ownership) caused
problems since they believed allegiance should only be pledged to God. They also wished for better
land provisions similar to those for Indians. Frustrated Doukhobors thus formed the Sons of God ,
which eventually became the radical Sons of Freedom. In fact, their lifestyle was quite out of place in
the prairies. They actually used men and women to pull wagons in an attempt to emancipate animals
and they travelled barefoot on pilgrimages in search of a Promised Land, which seemed rather odd to
Canadian citizens. Other bizarre religious beliefs seemed to bring controversy such as their
disapproval of the Canadian laws regarding marriage, birth and death registration. Four Doukhobor
men were even sentenced to three months imprisonment for failing to register a death. The Dominion
Land Act which required registration of the land also caused problems for the Doukhobors. While this
conflicted with their religious beliefs regarding owning private property, many reluctantly signed the
registration. The Sons of Freedom felt such an act was causing the other Doukhobors to be secularised
into Canadian society. In response to this, the Sons of Freedom began to evangelise in the nude during
the spring of 1903, starting a revivalist movement.

of Fredericksburg could adopt any of the habits practiced by the blue zone communities.
Moving naturally and eating wisely to the blue zone communities means to do a natural physical
activity and eat a natural plant based diet. Unlike here in Fredericksburg the most walking we do is to
and from our cars and the walking inside of where we go. We drive everywhere we need to go,
removing the walking from our day. Even our food comes from the market and is mainly processed,
taking out the work from farming. Many would rather go to a restaurant and have the food made for us
rather than we make our own. Many of us would not last if we had to walk everywhere we needed to
go or last a single day harvesting food. The blue zone communities also don t over eat, they eat until
they are about 80% full then walk away.
Unlike most people here where they eat until they are completely full.
Blue zones communities believe having the right outlook. Meaning that they have

Target Focus Group Report
Data Collected
What is a focus group? A focus group is a panel of 6 to 10 participants led by a trained moderator, who
meet for 90 minutes to two hours (Cooper Schindler, 2014). The focus group we conducted had 8
participants, who were willing to answer questions and discuss the different aspects of adding a salon
into their local Target store. Before starting the focus group, all 8 participants knew the background of
the discussion. To start off the focus group we did an introduction. The introduction questions
included which age bracket they were in, where they were from, what best described their work
experience and what best describes their income level.
Once the introduction was completed, the moderator had a set of questions to help ... Show more

Eight participants were included and seven acknowledged shopping at Target at least once a month.
Five out of the seven eight participants shop at Target at least twice a month. This displays the
relevance of Target as a major retailor and the financial opportunity to introduce a new product or
department. Focus group members also identified that, once inside the store, they often purchase
unintended items. If the salon is introduced properly and as a focal point in the store, customers may
begin to stop in for a manicure or eye brow wax despite not including this on their list of things to
purchase. Participants also listed manicures and pedicures as a service they would like to see in a
Target salon. and Five stated they would be more willing to purchase items from the beauty
department if utilized in the salon. Target currently sells OPI nail polish which is a brand specifically
utilized in stand alone nail salons. Target would be able to use inventory in the salon while also
offering it to customers within their beauty department. The use of the specific polish could impact a
customer s desire to stop in for a manicure while shopping at

Negative Impacts Of Deforestation
Impacts of Deforestation
Deforestation is the clearing of wide areas of forests for the purpose of using the land or the resources
in the area. Two highly demanding products that are causing deforestation around the world are palm
oil and cocoa. However, in the process of growing these products trees are removed from the area in
order to be converted into palm and cocoa plantations. As a result, many animal habitats are ruined,
and an abundance of trees are cut releasing carbon dioxide into the air contributing to climate change.
Increased demand for products containing ingredients such as palm oil and cocoa are just two of the
reasons the rate of deforestation is escalating resulting in the exploitation of animal habitats and
worsening the effects of climate change. Many small countries main income is through exporting
agricultural products. Therefore, as demand increases countries will do whatever they need to do to
meet the demand. Often, corners are cut, and there are many negative consequences. Palm oil is an
ingredient that is found in many consumer products that are on the market. Companies should be held
responsible for where the ingredients of their products come from and should be held accountable to
source products such as palm oil in a sustainable way which does not contribute to deforestation
(Larsson). Many areas are currently cutting down trees in order to convert the land into palm oil
plantations. One example would be in the Borneo rainforest. Naomi

Hitler s New Man
Upon achieving power in 1933, Hitler and the Nazi state began to implement increasingly severe
measures aimed at segregating and ultimately removing the Jewish people from Germany and
eventually all of Europe. Hitler s further achievement was to create the new man. However,
meanwhile the creation of Hitler s new man was giving Germany a sense of destiny, the Jewish life
was being constricted and erased. But what exactly was this idea of a new man? The ultimate attitude
behind this new achievement was to further purify the Aryan race. One of the first steps towards purity
were the Aryan passports, but these were just the beginning of a much broader effort or revolution for
Germans to accept their racial responsibilities. Genetic cultivation ... Show more content on

The second law established who would be granted full political and civic rights and those who would
now be deprived of them. Citizenship rights were to be granted to those who were citizens of the
Reich, which were only individuals classified as being of German or related blood , therefore Jews
were excluded from any and all citizenship rights becoming state subjects, essentially making them
foreigners in their own country. Kristallnacht refers to Jewish pogroms that took place in 1938. These
attacks took place against synagogues, Jewish owned businesses, other Jewish establishments, and
Jewish citizens in general. This was also the start to organized Nazi attacks, and the mass incarceration
of the Jews. There was no clear Instructions on how to execute the violence, so it caused the
destroying of Jewish property and inhumane treatment of Jewish people. Kristallnacht essentially
became the turning point in the Nazis persecution of the Jewish people. It expanded the efforts to
removed Jews from German economics and social life. Kristallnacht and the events that followed
essentially showed the Nazi regime that they can count on the nationwide support of anti Semitism
from the general public. This showed the Nazis that they can easily move forward with their plans
without a lot of opposition

Oppression And Its Effect On Social And Economic Justice
Oppression is the use of power to dis empower, marginalize, silence or otherwise subordinate one
social group or category, often in order to further empower and/or privilege the oppressor. The
purpose for this article is to show how social workers are to avoid unintended collusion with pervasive
oppressive systems and if they are to be successful in promoting social and economic justice, a firm
grasp of the nature of oppression with its dynamics of power and its systemic character is required.
The concept of oppression is presented here, followed by discussion of its dynamics and common
elements and the need for social workers to engage in anti oppressive practice in order to expose and
oppose oppressive relationships and systemic power arrangements. The group that I believe is one of
the most at risks groups to suffer from many various forms of oppression. Despite the decades that
have passed since the beginning of the civil rights movement, racism is still a major issue in America.
We still see organized hate groups, news stories of racial slurs and attacks, and examples that we
observe in our everyday lives. So, what should social workers and the profession as a whole do about
it. This group is at risk because of the persistent and perennial challenges faced by African Americans
is that of cultural oppression. Although the effects of oppression on African Americans have received
enormous attention, much of the focus has been on political and economic oppression as the

God s gift. It is the monitor civilizations of arts and sciences . With technology, they can get things

you go. These things were developed due to greater inventions and creativity of their designers. But
on the other hand, there are still places or institutions that have a slow growth of development when it
comes to advancement of technology. And one of these that caught the proponent s attention is the

Years ago, every library used paper based catalogs for finding books, ... Show more content on

The global impact of malaria has spurred interest in developing effective diagnostic strategies not only for resource limited areas where malaria is a substantial burden on society, but also in developed countries, where malaria diagnostic expertise is often lacking [4,5]. Malaria diagnosis involves identifying malaria parasites or antigens/products in patient blood. Although this may seem simple, the diagnostic efficacy is subject to many factors. • 4. Discuss Epistemology And Its Relevance Discuss epistemology and its relevance to intelligence analysis. Select at least two principal ways of knowing, and describe their respective characteristics/attributes, strengths, weaknesses, and potential for improving the quality of intelligence analysis. Merriam Webster defines epistemology as the study of the nature, origin, and limits of human knowledge. As applied to intelligence, the application of epistemology becomes highly important when analysts are making judgements while assessing information that is not fully factual. Analysts work with information that can be ambiguous, deceptive, conflicting, and even absent; yet, they are required to produce intelligence products that are reliable enough for policymakers to act upon and make decisions. In these situations, the analyst must make good use of epistemology to ensure that the intelligence judgements are reliable. Regarding intelligence analysis, there are four epistemologies, or ways of knowing , that are used: authority, habit of thought, rationalism, and empiricism. Science is a fifth epistemology that combines attributes of rationalism and empiricism. An analyst must know which epistemology he or she used to understand the errors that may be made and the self correcting mechanisms needed to improve reliability. Authoritative epistemology occurs when an analyst relies on another person s authority to make a judgement. Their basis of knowledge resides in a reference to something more ... Merton Model Of Social Deviance Merton, (1938) model of social deviance desires to refute Freudians and similar theorists that hypothesize biological abnormalities as a valid explanation for deviance. Their theory further posits that institutions only exist to channel deviance through some form of utilitarian calculus or unreasoned conditioning (p. 680). That is, using punishment to deter deviance rather using it as a form of retribution. Merton, instead, wants to articulate how institutions can itself prompt deviance, and sustain a significant degree of control over it. He proposes a 2 phase model (673) on how society structures individual behavior: the first phase is the cultural goal , the putative end for which we ought to struggle. Instead, for postmodernists, this intense codependence of subculture members of the media indicates how closely punks embody our present, media obsessed moment. A structuralist neo Marxist account of punks was that they were enacting genuine resistance and disaffection of society. But, as refigured by postmodern theorists as a form of subcultural capital, an alternative hierarchy in which the axes of age, gender, sexuality and race are all employed in order to keep the determinations of class, income and occupation at bay (Stahl, 1999). Scott Fitzgerald s allusive novel, The Great Gatsby, the American dream proves to be unattainable. In the novel, the green light represents Gatsby s fiery desire to own Daisy and the valley of ashes represents the turmoil faced by the working class in order to achieve the American dream. Fitzgerald effectively uses the glowing green light at the end of the Buchanan s dock and the desolate wasteland that is the valley of ashes as symbols, in order to shape and reinforce the theme of the impossible pursuit of the American dream. Throughout the novel, there are numerous mentions of the glowing green light and its symbolic representation of hope. Located at the end of the Buchanan s dock, Gatsby associates this light with Daisy and his dream of having her all to himself. At night, Gatsby stands on his blue lawn and looks out towards the green light, reaching up as if he is trying to grasp it but of course, the distance is preventing him to do so. He puts Daisy on the highest of pedestals and sees her as this ray of light, this trophy girl that is his to win if only he could close the distance between them. • 7. Blood Glucose Viscosity Levels Of Non Diabetics And Diabetics Blood Glucose Absorbance Levels of Non Diabetics and Diabetics Over 120 Minutes After Food Consumption Alexis Lester BSC 120 113 October 27, 2015 Dr. Welch Abstract Individuals with diabetes are affected by elevated blood glucose levels in the bloodstream due to inefficient glucose uptake by cells. Blood glucose levels are influenced by many things, especially meals and their glucose content. Therefore, if diabetics cannot correctly regulate their blood glucose levels, particularly after meals, then their readings will be higher than non diabetic levels. In the experiment, the absorbance of simulated blood glucose levels of both diabetic and non diabetic people in 120 minutes following a meal was measured using a spectrophotometer. The blood glucose levels of diabetics were higher than that of non diabetics throughout the entire course of 120 minutes, including at peak levels occurring at 60 minutes. The cause of this was a greater abundance of molecules in the highly concentrated diabetic solutions, which were ready to absorb more light. This demonstrates the ineffectiveness of diabetic metabolic pathways for utilizing glucose compared to that of non diabetics. This research can be taken further to analyze how different types of food influence blood glucose levels. Introduction Type II diabetes is a metabolic disease that affects many people of various ages, genders, and ethnicities all over the world. Many factors contribute to the disease, including ... • 9. Analysis Of The Minstrel Shows Saxton portrays the minstrel shows as entertainment that provided a ground for topics difficult to handle as a means of social commentary for the urban working class to level their cultural capital with elite planters. The minstrel shows first became popular as they provided a glimpse into the culture taking place in the developing urban cities of the time. Saxton writes that, through that window appeared cultural identifications and hostilities, ethnic satire, and social and political commentary of wide ranging, sometimes radical character. (pg. 68) The founders of minstrelsy were northern and urban; they defied the traditional, religious lifestyles and sought unconventional occupations in the world of entertainment. These men had to find something new and exciting that would stand out in the inhospitable entertainment world. They believed that the satirical aspect of blackface minstrelsy would allow for such a freedom of subject matter that would permit topics that were deemed to be prohibited. Shows referenced forbidden topics such as homosexuality and masturbation. Saxton notes that the point here is not the prevalence of homosexuality, but the tolerance of sexuality in general, the realism and the flexibility of standards that flourished behind the false facade of blackface presentation. (pg. 73) The minstrels borrowed the music and dance of slaves and altered them sufficiently to be more acceptable to the white, urban class. As the show developed, it transformed ... Teaching English As A Second Or Foreign Language In addition to teaching students through a variety of methods, teachers should also provide students with the tools necessary for them to be autonomous learners. According to Celce Murcia s Teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language, one of the greatest challenges facing both educators and learners is building ELL s academic vocabularies (Celce Murcia et al., 2013, p. 164). According to Larson (2013), active engagement encourages students to know definitions of words, make connections between and among words and concepts, and acquire strategies to become autonomous (Larson, 2013, p. 17). In order to do so, word walls are one type of strategy Larson proposed. Word walls allow students a visual aid. Students can place words according to three tiers: basic, general academic words, and content specific words. For example, dirt is a basic word, soil is a general academic word, and sediment is a content specific word. Words could also be organized alphabetically, by theme, or by unit. Another strategy Larson encourages is matching activities (Larson et al, 2013). This allows students to focus on the morphology of words. For example, if students are given a word and have to locate their peers with the same Latin root or prefix, they learn how to determine meanings based on parts of a word. If one student had the word, unknown, and another student had the word, unlucky, they would be morphological partners because both words contain the prefix, un. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. A Study On Bacterial Transformation Bacterial Transformation Fiona Obas 5155246 U42 Abstract DNA encodes the genetic instructions for cells to carry out their daily activities. DNA can come in many forms; plasmids for example are small circular DNA molecules found in most bacterial cells. Though plasmids may not be essential for the life of bacteria, it can give cells resistance in foreign environments. For the purpose of this experiment, an ampicillin resistant plasmid is introduced to E. coli. This is done through a process of genetic engineering called transformation. Transformation works through the uptake, incorporation, and expression of a foreign gene to alter the genetic code of a cell. Three conditions are needed for successful transformation: a host, a vector, and a technique to identify the transformed cells. E. coli is used in this experiment as the host (E. coli is commonly used in biotechnology due to its rapid rate of growth and short reproduction time). A vector mediates the transfer of foreign DNA into the host cell. Plasmids are commonly used vectors that will also be used in this experiment. The procedure of tagging is used in this experiment to differentiate the transformed cells from those that were not. The learning objectives of this experiment are to: observe the process of bacterial transformation in an experiment; and demonstrate a change in phenotype due to uptake and expression of the genes in a known plasmid. Looking at the top right side you could see that it is for the FIFA world cup advertisement for America. The main target of the advertisement would probably be the people watching the game either in a bar or a game where they could enjoy that bud light drink. Törrönen (2013) Explains how back in the day women would not be seen in advertisements showing half their body, where they were keeping it traditional (p.644). Now, when looking at the image there is huge change in society, the women in the Bud light image is expressing herself and the body she has made by working out, it also allows the audience to see how women attracts men to sports, by having these advertisements it gives men pleasure to drink the beer. • 23. A Prayer For Owen Meany Analysis How many people are willing to practice their own death? Not many, right? It sounds strange, but one person in particular was eager to do just that Owen Meany. In John Irving s A Prayer for Owen Meany, Owen makes many sacrifices, his biggest sacrifice being his own life. In the beginning of the novel, Owen comes across as slightly different with his minuscule size and high pitched voice, but as the novel progresses and Owen ages, his inhuman qualities become more and more prevalent, eventually leading to the biggest indicator of all his death. In the novel, Owen Meany is willingly able to plan the sacrifice of his own life in order to save the lives of others, showing he is a supernatural being. Owen Meany was predestined to be a savior for the Vietnamese children and he had been preparing for this sacrifice his entire life. From the time he was born, Owen was always special. His parents admitted that he was unnatural when Mr. Meany exclaimed, She just conceived a child like the Christ Child. (Irving 545). This shows that Owen s parents did not purposefully conceive him, but he was born for a greater purpose. Later on in Owen s life, he has a vision of his grave and how he will die, which leads him to prepare for his death. He saw his death so vividly, he knew Johnny would be present, therefore he involves Johnny in his practice. Johnny explains, We practiced the shot for three or four days in a row; of course, my part in this exercise was extremely limited, but I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. Viet Cong Tunnel Essay To a large extent, the Viet Cong tunnel system did contribute to the defeat of the Americans during the Vietnam War between 1965 and 1969. This was so because of the many problems that were facing the US forces when fighting the war in Vietnam. It could be possible that one of the problems was the fact that the Viet Cong were fighting using guerilla tactics. However, it led to a great lack of trust among the Vietnamese and the Americans as it was difficult to distinguish between the real Vietnamese civilians and the Viet Cong soldiers in disguise. This essay will aim to discuss the Viet Cong tunnel system and how they contributed to the Americans defeat and we will have close reference to this essay. It all began when the Americans started carrying out the Search and Destroy Missions [Source C] as the US lost the hearts and the minds of the Vietnamese people through these missions. However, the terrain had made life more difficult for the US forces as there was a deal of Vietnam that was covered in the jungle, swamp and also paddy fields. Guerilla tactics were used by the Viet Cong against the Americans [Source G] and they were on a small scale taking irregular actions. Many migrants traveled to Romania. In the 5th and 6th century two major events happened. First in the 5th century, came the Huns and in the 6th century they were followed by the Avars. The Huns were a nomadic tribe whose origin is unknown but, most likely, they came from somewhere between the eastern edge of the Altai Mountains and the Caspian Sea, roughly modern Kazakhstan (Kelly, 45). The Avars were a confederation of heterogeneous (diverse or varied) people consisting of Rouran, Hephthalites, and Turkic Oghuric races who migrated to the region of the Pontic Grass Steppe (an area corresponding to modern day Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan) from Central Asia after the fall of the Asiatic Rouran Empire in 552 CE. Physical pain is a signal of the nerves; therefore it is something that is tangible, something that we can prove is there and something that we can feel. Emotional pain is hurt on the inside of one s soul. It cannot be expressed; it is only a feeling in the soul. According to the Christian view, pain makes someone a better person. However, some people disagree with this because they believe that pain destroys a human being s self worth. The pain totally changed this once happy go lucky man into a hard, depressed, and uncaring person. He was unable to walk, which made him unable to support himself and his family. Because of one small accident, Jim Jones life was changed forever, and he will live with this horrid pain until death. Emotional pain can, in some cases, be more destructive than physical pain. A doctor cannot heal emotional pain; it is something that a person must let heal over time with the help of God and their friends and family. Emotional pain is an aching in one s heart or soul that can t be cured by conventional medicine, but rather a change of his behavior and self worth. The Strategies For Development Today Strategies for Development Today Different views on development that are seen today are based on the previous lessons learned from strategies used in the past. Protectionism was a strategy used in the past where countries created steep barriers for imports from other countries. They used this strategy to help protect their starting industries. Countries didn t open up international market competition until they were sure they were ready to compete profitably against them. This strategy worked successfully for the United States, Germany, and Japan. In the second half of the twentieth century, modern day strategies for development were of influence. The goal was to catch up their technology with international producers to lower trade barriers over time. Another advantage of import substitution was the balance of payments. Since the country produced domestic goods that were once imported, this led to more imports of technology without causing a deficit. Although import substitution did work out for some countries, it did have its weaknesses towards the late twentieth century. These countries shifted from agriculture production to manufacturing goods, which increased global agricultural prices and put food importers in a tough situation. Another problem was that the domestic production of these countries did not become competitive with the international markets. Small consumer markets could not reach the production of important goods for the economies of larger domestic markets or international markets. Also, since domestic producers do not have competition from foreign producers this reduces the motivation for technology improvement. This did not prepare firms for the international market, instead it made them remain incompetent or weak. When the state allocates market resources instead of allowing the market to regulate the supply and demand of the resources is an alternative strategy for development called state socialism. This strategy spread after World War II to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is because the majority of the addressees of the Pirs were Hindus and therefore the Pirs incorporated symbolism, terminology, themes and ideas prevalent within the local milieu. However, the underlying message in these verses is congruent with the teachings of Islam and particularly with the Ismaili TarÄ«qah. Acculturation, leading to a fusion of Ismaili beliefs and Hindu concepts to form the Ismaili belief system, is undoubtedly a prominent feature of, but certainly not exclusive to, the Ginanic approach of da wa (propagation of Faith). Similar traits are evident in other Ismaili traditions. For example, during the Fatimide period, there was a synthesis of Ismaili beliefs with Neoplatonic and Gnostic ideas, while during the AlamÅ«t period there was an assimilation of Ismaili concepts with Sufism. The reason behind this approach is clearly straightforward to propagate the message of the Ismaili Faith within the framework of the local milieu to acquire optimum results. This approach aptly falls within the scope of the formula for da wa, prescribed by the Holy Qur an: Invite (all) to the Way of thy Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching; and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious: for thy Lord knoweth best, who have strayed from His Path, and who receive guidance. • 36. Reader Response In The Kite Runner By Khaled Hosseini The Kite Runner Reader Response Khaled Hosseini, the author of The Kite Runner, has a writing style unique to him in a way that the majority of his sentences are short and non complex. Although there are numerous words in Farsi, most are explained right away to limit confusion. You look khoshteep , Baba said. Handsome ( Hosseini 166). Hosseini incorporates an abundance of figurative language in his book, an example of this is repetition. The line, There is a way to be good again is said several times throughout the book to show its significance in the novel (Hosseini 2). Figurative language is extremely important because it adds a meaning and value that is much stronger than saying it differently. Hosseini uses many symbols in his novel. One, in particular, shows the loss of friendship between Amir and Hassan, the pomegranate tree. In the beginning, Amir and Hassan would go to the tree to read stories and eat pomegranates. After school, Hassan and I climbed its branches and snatched its bloodred pomegranates (Hosseini 27 28). After Hassan had been raped, Amir and Hassan had gone back to the tree but this time the loss of friendship starts to show through. When Amir throws pomegranates at Hassan, it is him trying to get Haasan to punish Amir for what he had done wrong. Hit me back! I spat. Hit me back, goddamn you ! I wished he would. I wished he d give me the punishment I craved, so maybe I d finally sleep at night (Hosseini 92). Amir needs the punishment he deserves so badly from the awful things he did and now wants to live up to. Once Amir goes back to visit his home in Kabul, he finds the pomegranate tree that once was a symbol of friendship, and now the loss of just that. Hassan said in his letter that the pomegranate tree hadn t borne fruit in years. Looking at the wilted, leafless tree, I doubted it ever would again (Hosseini 264). The pomegranate tree shows how during their friendship, the tree was beautiful and full of life. Now that Amir has betrayed Hassan and left him to be killed, the tree is now lifeless and no fruit to be eaten symbolizing the end of their relationship. A focus group is a panel of 6 to 10 participants led by a trained moderator, who meet for 90 minutes to two hours (Cooper Schindler, 2014). The focus group we conducted had 8 participants, who were willing to answer questions and discuss the different aspects of adding a salon into their local Target store. Before starting the focus group, all 8 participants knew the background of the discussion. To start off the focus group we did an introduction. The introduction questions included which age bracket they were in, where they were from, what best described their work experience and what best describes their income level. Once the introduction was completed, the moderator had a set of questions to help ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Eight participants were included and seven acknowledged shopping at Target at least once a month. Five out of the seven eight participants shop at Target at least twice a month. This displays the relevance of Target as a major retailor and the financial opportunity to introduce a new product or department. Focus group members also identified that, once inside the store, they often purchase unintended items. If the salon is introduced properly and as a focal point in the store, customers may begin to stop in for a manicure or eye brow wax despite not including this on their list of things to purchase. Participants also listed manicures and pedicures as a service they would like to see in a Target salon. and Five stated they would be more willing to purchase items from the beauty department if utilized in the salon. Target currently sells OPI nail polish which is a brand specifically utilized in stand alone nail salons. Target would be able to use inventory in the salon while also offering it to customers within their beauty department. The use of the specific polish could impact a customer s desire to stop in for a manicure while shopping at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Negative Impacts Of Deforestation Impacts of Deforestation Deforestation is the clearing of wide areas of forests for the purpose of using the land or the resources in the area. Two highly demanding products that are causing deforestation around the world are palm oil and cocoa. However, in the process of growing these products trees are removed from the area in order to be converted into palm and cocoa plantations. As a result, many animal habitats are ruined, and an abundance of trees are cut releasing carbon dioxide into the air contributing to climate change. Increased demand for products containing ingredients such as palm oil and cocoa are just two of the reasons the rate of deforestation is escalating resulting in the exploitation of animal habitats and worsening the effects of climate change. Many small countries main income is through exporting agricultural products. Therefore, as demand increases countries will do whatever they need to do to meet the demand. Often, corners are cut, and there are many negative consequences. Palm oil is an ingredient that is found in many consumer products that are on the market. Companies should be held responsible for where the ingredients of their products come from and should be held accountable to source products such as palm oil in a sustainable way which does not contribute to deforestation (Larsson). Many areas are currently cutting down trees in order to convert the land into palm oil plantations. One example would be in the Borneo rainforest. Naomi ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Hitler s New Man Upon achieving power in 1933, Hitler and the Nazi state began to implement increasingly severe measures aimed at segregating and ultimately removing the Jewish people from Germany and eventually all of Europe. Hitler s further achievement was to create the new man. However, meanwhile the creation of Hitler s new man was giving Germany a sense of destiny, the Jewish life was being constricted and erased. But what exactly was this idea of a new man? The ultimate attitude behind this new achievement was to further purify the Aryan race. One of the first steps towards purity were the Aryan passports, but these were just the beginning of a much broader effort or revolution for Germans to accept their racial responsibilities. Kristallnacht refers to Jewish pogroms that took place in 1938. These attacks took place against synagogues, Jewish owned businesses, other Jewish establishments, and Jewish citizens in general. This was also the start to organized Nazi attacks, and the mass incarceration of the Jews. There was no clear Instructions on how to execute the violence, so it caused the destroying of Jewish property and inhumane treatment of Jewish people. Kristallnacht essentially became the turning point in the Nazis persecution of the Jewish people. It expanded the efforts to removed Jews from German economics and social life. Kristallnacht and the events that followed essentially showed the Nazi regime that they can count on the nationwide support of anti Semitism from the general public. This showed the Nazis that they can easily move forward with their plans without a lot of opposition ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The purpose for this article is to show how social workers are to avoid unintended collusion with pervasive oppressive systems and if they are to be successful in promoting social and economic justice, a firm grasp of the nature of oppression with its dynamics of power and its systemic character is required. The concept of oppression is presented here, followed by discussion of its dynamics and common elements and the need for social workers to engage in anti oppressive practice in order to expose and oppose oppressive relationships and systemic power arrangements. The group that I believe is one of the most at risks groups to suffer from many various forms of oppression. Despite the decades that have passed since the beginning of the civil rights movement, racism is still a major issue in America. We still see organized hate groups, news stories of racial slurs and attacks, and examples that we observe in our everyday lives. So, what should social workers and the profession as a whole do about it.
