A New Drug For Weight Management
BIOL 376

(Word Count=1650)
Liraglutide is a new drug for weight management presently in clinical trial. Explain the proposed
mechanism of the drug and briefly report the outcome of the clinical trials.
Introduction
Liraglutide is a glucagon like peptide 1 receptor agonist (GLP 1), which is synonymous with the
naturally occurring human peptide GLP 1 produced in the colon and solitary tract of the brain (Baggio
and Drucker, 2007). The drug was developed recently for weight management and the treatment of
diabetes mellitus type 2 (DM2) and has clinically been shown to promote weight loss. As rates of
obesity and DM2 increase for both adults and children in Australia halting and reversing this
increasing trend has become a national and worldwide health priority (Australia s health 2012, 2012).
This essay will illustrate how the drug Liraglutide can aid in reversing this trend and promote weight
loss.
Background
The drug Liraglutide is seen on the market as two different medications, Victoza and Saxenda.
Initially the drug was approved only for treatment of DM2 back in 2009, but recently was approved
for treatment of obesity as well. The common but different forms differ slightly in their composition
and so are used for different purposes, Victoza for diabetes and Saxenda for weight loss. The drug is
recommend to be used as an adjunct to diet and exercise in the treatment of individuals with a BMI
higher than 27 and for those with DM2 to achieve

Compare And Contrast Amazon Pricing Strategy
Due to multiple external and internal factors, pricing strategy has become one of the main focuses for
a ranging scale of businesses. For some small companies, cost leadership from low quality materials
and less overheads allow low prices, resulting in competitiveness and survival of their business, in
comparison to larger businesses who are able to charge more as they may have better quality products
and large finances to allow above the line promotion. Furthermore, their approaches to the market
place will differ; businesses who aim to charge less, will market their products at people who can
demographically afford the products and understand their goods/service are price and income elastic.
In a dissimilar fashion, organisations who look to charge higher, approach marketplaces with strong
brands for their loyal customers with the belief the high prices are acceptable. Regarding Jeff Bezos
quote, the statement ended with we will be the second . The Amazon billionaire acknowledges the
importance of meeting pricing strategy for consumer needs and desires. Thus, with a clear focus of
keeping prices low, Amazon select suitable operations such as being an e tailer and marketing
techniques to stay successful. This essay will critically analyse the comparisons between the different
scales of businesses and to which the way they strategically operate, approach the market and the
factors that enforce this.
Firstly, one of the primary reasons prices in businesses alternate would

The City Of A Small Town Is Better Than Living At A Big...
Last August, I took a trip with the youth group from my church to Washington, D.C. to visit the
church there in our congregation. While I was there for seven days, I found many things there that
were much better in the large city, and other things very odd. Going out in the city and finding out
these things were very interesting to me since I live in a small town Kalona, Iowa, with a population
around three thousand people. After experiencing both, I can definitely say that both have their
benefits and disadvantages. Personally, I still feel that living in a small town is better than living in a
big city. In the big city, there are many things that are different, but the most obvious one is the sights.
There is lots of tall buildings and streets connecting everywhere. Millions of people walking in every
which way to do their own agendas. One thing that is evident while sight seeing is the amount of
pollution. Trash and litter surrounded you almost everywhere you went, including the streets, curbs,
water, grass, sidewalks, and even some buildings. As we walked around the monuments, one could see
trash and pollution in the ponds surrounding our nation s famous monuments. It was surprising to me
more people didn t want to keep them looking nice. Similarly, the small town of Kalona does have
litter, but not nearly as much as the city. However, the city has much more people than a small town,
so this is logical of the amount of pollution.
In addition to the realization of the

Analysis Of The West In My Antonia
The Frontier
(An analysis of the west) My Antonia is a novel about the frontier. It is set in the early 1900 s and is
about what happened during this time. Nebraska is the state My Antonia is set in, but most of the
novel goes for a lot of the states in the west. According to Kathleen Norris, Cather had the great good
fortune to have lived among the first generation of white settlers in 1880s Nebraska, and she gives
witness to their time and place in such a way that American literature will never forget them (Norris).
This quote helps the reader see that the author, Willa Cather, had a reliable point of view when she
was writing this story because it was a lot of the stuff that she went through and saw. As a result of this

The environment is very important to do with the way people lived. The environment includes the
weather they had their and the condition of the soil. They considered the area a vast treeless wasteland
(Settlers). This quote shows that it didn t have many trees which made the weather worse because
there were no trees to stop the blizzards and storms. The book has a great example of this, All day the
storm went on. The snow did not fall this time, it simply spilled out of heaven, like thousands of
featherbeds being emptied. This shows that it doesn t just fall it pours out, almost like a rain storm.
Many saved up their food for the winter, so they didn t have to go outside as much. They still had to
take care of their fields and such, but they mostly stayed inside. In anyone s life their environment is
vital to how they turn out in life and how they act around others. Although it can t decide for he or she,
it can lead to a certain way of living. The environment in the west leads most of the people that live
there to be hard workers and they are also not as affectionate

The Stranger Research Paper
The exposure of religion usually starts at a young age, or in people s teenage years. When somebody
is not exposed at these ages they usually seek it out for themselves or never do. When they know
nothing about religion or care nothing about it they usually disregard morals. This means they do what
they want because they do not believe in right and wrong. When they do not believe in these things
they are usually seen as outsiders to the rest of the world. Their way of life is affected like their
emotions, relationships, and judgement. It is hard for them to get into a relationship because they have
little or show no emotions and can sometimes make bad decisions. In The Stranger, Monsieur
Meursault is a young adult that was not exposed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He shot an Arab that had been following Raymond because of what he did to the girl. Also because
they had gotten into an argument earlier in the day one in which Raymond had been hurt. He walked
up to the spot where he thought they would be and shot and then waited and then shot him multiple
times. He not only shot him multiple times but the Arab did not even try to defend himself. Even
though he shot him multiple times and had a reason he states I never intended to kill the Arab (Camus
102). When at the trial the prosecutor supposedly observed him various times once he even said that
Meursault was already a criminal at heart (Camus 122). This statement was only made on the physical
behavior Meursault was displaying on the day of his mother s funeral. When the whole trail was
supposed to be about how he killed the Arab his accusers somehow kept bringing up the fact that he
showed no affection towards his mother at the funeral. This show just how the society he is in and
how they act is totally opposite from his point of views. Meaning that how he does things will be seen
by society as uncanny and they will condemn it as wrong. In the article Justice and Morality in The
Stranger by A. Chalana proves this by saying, the justice given to Meursault by the court doesn t
represent the beliefs of those who actually know him and understand his philosophy, but rather those

The Importance of Literary Devices in The Seven Ages of...
All the world s a stage the men and women merely players . This line is the beginning of the The
Seven Ages of Man and is a recurring question throughout the poem. You may wonder how the world
is stage, and through his use of similes, metaphors, and imagery Shakespeare explains this elaborates
on this question.
William Shakespeare s use of similes in the Seven Ages of Man helps to start the poem and give it a
meaning early on by adding emphasis on certain topics. For example in the beginning he uses the men
and women merely players (Line 2) to explain that people don t own the world but live in it. By using
this simile he explains how people progress through life like a play, making an entrance to the stage
and leaving afterwards. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore Shakespeare compares The Last Age to childishness and oblivion meaning that after you
have gone through all the stages everything you have built up demolishes and you start back at the
first stage. The last line of the poem helps you to determine how the play ends and because this
comparison is made it makes you aware of people in your life that have gone through a few of the
stages described by Shakespeare. Giving you the idea that the stages may occur in your life but in the
end it really doesn t matter what you have done, because it will most likely be destroyed. The idea that
what you have developed will be demolished makes you wonder what you are doing and have done
with your life.
Imagery is prominent in The Seven Ages of Man and is used to give meaning to a line or phrase
meaning while creating complex images. When Shakespeare describes the boy as a creeping snail and
sighing like a furnace you can image a drowsy boy who is on his way to school, but when described as
having a shining morning face it gives you a completely different idea. By placing two differential
images close together Shakespeare creates two separate moods in a few lines, which helps to
determine the difference between two phases. Later on in the poem he uses the same strategy and says
the man is bearded like a pard , portraying the image of a slightly older man who has moved on from
the childish phase of the young schoolboy. He also says he

The two main explanations why some exotic species become invasive species are superiority in
competition and the opportunistic use of ecological niches generated by human activities.
(Nishizawa). Invasive species contributed to the decline of 42% of the threatened and endangered

Definition Of Racism
Title When it comes to racism we all have our own opinion on what this term may mean. However,
when it comes to race, there are privileges not many of us have the opportunity to take advantage of
because on our ethnicities. The word racism can have different meanings depending on what your own
viewpoint is. Racism has been common for plenty of decades and in fact, is very popular today. In
fact, well known speakers such as Beverly Daniel Tatum and Peggy McIntosh provide their own
viewpoints on the common topics of race and racism. First, Beverly D. Tatum s viewpoint on racism is
that she does not see it as an act of hate, but rather she sees it as a system of privileges based on one s
own race (Sweeney, 33). Tatum makes it clear throughout this excerpt that race determines the
privileges you are guaranteed to receive and the fact that those privileged individuals do not notice the
power they have compared to others. She connects the idea of white privilege with her definition of
racism, and clearly states that racism could also be connected with people of color; however, people of
color are not racist because they do not benefit from racism (Sweeney, 37). Tatum gives many
examples of White privilege to support her idea that racism is a system of advantage based on race.
For instance, Tatum talks about one of her students who was a White male that was in her psychology
of racism course and that he did not know how advantaged he was until the end of this class. This

Essay on Presentation of Self Claim
Erving Goffman s Presentation of Self Claim Erving Goffman was a sociologist who studied and
analyzed social interaction. He took special interest in explaining how people live their lives as if they
were actors performing on stage. He looked at the world as if he were a director seeing what goes on
in everyday life. He called this observation of the world dramaturgical analysis. He applied terms to
this explanation, which include the concepts of status and role. He referred the part in a play as the
status, and then the script is the role. His claim of presentation of self was used to describe a person s
efforts to create specific impressions in the minds of others. Goffman thought that when any
individual is around others, they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of our performances are different though. They can also vary because every place we are can
change how we perform . Body language is a critical aspect in our daily performances. Sometime
body gestures can tell people things about you that you may not have want them to know, such as the
mood you are in that day. If you lied to someone they may be able to tell because of the body image of
nervousness you possess because of lying. Nonverbal communication can often provide those around
you with enough information to catch you in a lie. Another element in presentation depends on gender
too. For example, Goffman implied that men need more space than women do. Certain facial
expressions affect presentation as well, such as eye contact and smiling. Presentation also brings about
the elements of embarrassment, idealization, and tact. In modern day life, a prime example of
presentation of self can be seen through a professor teaching a class. The students in this case are the
audience and the professor of course is the actor on stage, or in front of the classroom. Students can
often times be a very intimidating audience. The professor must also present his or her self in the
proper manner. Negative body gestures can cause the students to not pay attention. Idealization plays a
huge role in the professor s presentation as well. They go into the classroom with certain motives for
teaching others. Sometimes embarrassment plays a role too. Because

Wolves In North America
There was a time when wolves could be found almost anywhere in North America. But that time was
short lived. In the mid 1900 s, Gray wolves, Mexican Gray Wolves, and Red Wolves, were hunted to
near extinction. Less than three hundred lived near the Great Lakes, and there were fewer than fifty in
captivity. However, a few years later, some wolves were captured and they were reintroduced into
other states. Since then they have repopulated, but they are far from a stable population. If some
people have their way, history may repeat itself and we could lose these animals all together. Over one
hundred years ago, America began the war with wolves. Wolves posed a threat to America at the time,

Analysis Of The Poem Terrace Mcnally s The Mother,...
HIV/AIDS affects people both directly and indirectly. It is an extremely painful for the person with the
virus, and it is emotional for them and their loved ones. Many people have preconceived ideas about
what types of people get HIV/AIDS and can be stubborn and unaccepting. Terrace McNally elicits
empathy from the audience by using literary devices including; the unique characteristics of Andre s
Mother, and the balloons symbolizing Andre s soul. I am very compassionate about the topic because
my sister is HIV positive. I know that she has been through a lot, and people have treated her
differently because of it. However, she is still the same person.
Terrace McNally decided to make the character of Andre s Mother nameless. Choosing not to give her
a name leaves room for the reader to imagine why she is nameless. Giving a character a name makes
them more personable, leaving a character unnamed would usually make them less memorable. It is
difficult to remember much about a character that you can not address by name. However, in this
situation, being nameless creates a distinct and intriguing character. It forces the audience to question
why these choices were made, and this allows the audience to use their imagination and think about
what type of person Andre s Mother was. I believe that Andre s Mother s silence shows that she is not
accepting of her son and that they do not have a close and open relationship. Andre does not even tell
his mother about his partner Cal in

Wladyslaw Szpilman Music
Music today as we all know is an expression of feelings and thoughts in a combination of sounds that
make a pleasant melody. But, what if this melody is a soundtrack of a movie? The music is written as
an accompaniment to the film rather than an independent listening and it is often a worthless activity
to spend any precious listening time to it. This peculiar album, Music from the Motion Picture: The
Pianist, released on December 4th of 2002, consists almost completely of a series of classical and
some romantic compositions. It was created as a companion piece to the film, which is a sympathetic

It is a romantic work written in the 1830s. Also, it s classified as an étude (short compositions of
considerable difficulty, and designed to provide practice material for perfecting a particular musical

sequence: [Themes A + B + Transition], and then [Theme A Revisited + Ending].
The performance of the music in the film in general is a compilation of compositions from one of the
greatest innovators in the 19th century classical piano: Frédéric Chopin. The dynamics of these pieces
seem to have a good variation and flexibility, even though sometimes it appeared to be too loud. The
tempo used in most of his compositions was moderato; overall, the compositions sounded right and
according to the moment. Also his rubato is very generous, and more than anyone, Chopin allows for
generous rubato. However, rubato should only be heavily applied to the melody and not so much to

The people of this time also believe in fate and place their fate in the hands of the gods. Gilgamesh
lives in a way that is ordained by the gods: The destiny was fulfilled which the father of the gods,
Enlil of the mountain, had decreed for Gilgamesh (Sandars 118). The leader is not overly revered and
is seen as embodying the fate, security, and stability of the people and their kingdom. When
Gilgamesh dies, the people lament. Every aspect of life is ascribed to a god or gods. The death of
Gilgamesh is attributed to Ereshkigal, the Queen of Death, and to all the gods of the dead (Sandars
119). The people see the world as a place of many dangers, ruled by different gods who behave as
rulers of their particular kingdom. Humbaba is such a ruler, and his domain is the forest known as the
Country of the Living, lying somewhere on the outer bounds of earth and reality (Sandars 33). The
people value the warlike strength of Gilgamesh because he can protect them from these other gods, as
well as from other rulers who might attack them. In ancient Sumeria, the people came more and more
to depend on any leader who could accomplish such a feat and protect them from their neighbors,
intruders from outside the area, and anyone who might want to plunder their villages. The tendency
was thus toward greater centralization and increased power in the hands of whichever

Ultrasound Essay
Ultrasound is a therapeutic modality that uses vibrations which are produced mechanically at a higher
frequency than sound waves. These waves are referred to as ultrasonic as they are unable to be heard
by humans (Robertson et al, 2006). The success of the use of ultrasound has been recorded as early as
the 1930 s, when in Berlin, sciatica in patients had been shown to have improved greatly. This
evidently resulted in further research and new treatment methods being created (Stanley, 1958). Since
then a lot of research has been carried out and advances in the use of ultrasound has been made and
are continuing to be made all the time. The effects of ultrasound in rehabilitation will be researched
and examined to understand its effectiveness. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Healing of pressure sores have also improved through the application of ultrasound at a low intensity
(Williams, 1968). There have however been reports suggesting that ultrasound can increase the size of
ulcers following treatment as the intensity was excessively higher than required, contradicting William
s theory (Harvey and Elphick, 1969). It has been suggested that the application of ultrasound at a low
dose can increase degranulation of mast cells and the release of histamine accelerating the acute
inflammation phase. It can also reduce the amount of fluid being released from the capillaries
following injury and collagen synthesis can be increased during the repair process (Denegar, Saliba
and Saliba, 2006). If there is more exposure than required it can result in a breakdown of tissues and
can increase the acute inflammatory response for a longer period of time, resulting in the patient
suffering with their injury longer than the average healing time. Baker and Robertson (2001) came to
the conclusion that therapeutic ultrasound may not be more effective than placebo ultrasound for pain,
musculoskeletal disorders or soft tissue healing. However many researchers and practitioners continue
to believe that ultrasound has many beneficial effects and from their books and journals evidence can
be found to further their theories. The author has also come to the conclusion that when applied
correctly ultrasound can treat a range of

How Depression Affects The Quality Of Interpersonal...
Depression is one of the most common psychiatric disorders in the United States. About 20% of
people in the U.S. will experience an episode of depression some time in their lifetime. Of these
people, women make up a majority of this group (Gotlib Hammen, 2008) among men and women, it
is a 1:2 ratio (Kessler, 2003). Depression is responsible for both social and economic disability among
other mental and behavioral disorders during early and middle adulthood (Goodman Tully, 2008;
Wilhelm, 2006). During this period in life, women are most likely mothers and are still supremely
primary caretakers for children (Goodman Tully, 2008; Lamb, 2000).
Depression can negatively affect the quality of interpersonal relationships, including spouses and
children (Hammen, 2008). Mothers have the most contact and influence of a child s caretaking. If a
mother is depressed, that influence would be more impressionable than if the child s father was
depressed in terms of the child s ability to internalize and externalize problems (Goodman Tully, 2008;
Connell Goodman, 2002). Children with clinically depressed mothers have been shown to experience
withdrawn or negative interactions with their mothers that can subsequently lead to behavioral
problems (Turney, 2011; Turner Lloyd, 1999).
Depression in mothers can have detrimental consequences on the relationship that a mother has with
their child and the child s future health. One of the greatest risk factors for depression in children

Gothic and Romanesque Cathedrals Essay
The Romanesque style transformed into the Gothic style during the Middle Ages. This happened for
many reasons. The Romanesque period was a time of trial and error while the Gothic period was a
time of advancements in inventions. Religion was an important factor in the shift between
Romanesque and Gothic. The locations of the two types of cathedrals also contributed toward the
change between Romanesque and Gothic, as well as the power of the relics and the community to

In Romanesque, the emphasis was on transcendental and feudalistic systems whereas in the Gothic this
approach was humanized and individualized. The Gothic architecture emphasized upward movement
towards god, a feeling that cannot be found in a Romanesque basilica although it might hav already
pointed arches, a key element of gothic architecture. There is just a different feeling in the Gothic
architecture gives and overwhelming feeling of mysticism, the dominant spiritual and philosophical
movement. The Gothic period was a tuime of advancements in architecture including the pointed arch,
the rib vault, and the flying buttress. Also, stained glass windows were a beutiful way to express their
beliefs in an architectural way. The pointed arch was their first invention that removed the awkward
look of disproportional arches at the sides of the Romanesque cathedrals. The pointed arch also
directed the weight of the vault downward to help support the massive ceilings. The second
advancement of the Gothic architects solved problems of the Romanesque period. The Romanesque
cathedrals had thick walls that gave the feeling of confinement, and their massive arches seemed ill
proportioned to their small windows, which created little light. The rib vaults allowed the architects to
increase the spaciousness and height, reduce the thickness

Active Aging Essay
Active aging is defined as the maintenance of positive subjective well being, good physical, social and
mental health and continued involvement in one s family, peer group and community throughout the
aging process (Hofer, 2016, p.1). Active aging promotes the vision of all individuals regardless of age,
socioeconomic status or health fully engaging in life within all seven dimensions of wellness:
emotional, environmental, intellectual/cognitive, physical, professional/vocational, social and spiritual
( What is Active Aging, 2017).
Active does not just refer to the ability to participate in the workforce or be physically active. It also
refers to the continued participation in social, economic, cultural, spiritual and civic affairs. Older
people who are ill, live with disabilities, and/or are retired from work can still be active participants in
the lives of their families, peers, and communities. The goal of active aging is to extend healthy life
and the quality of life for people as they age ( Active Ageing: A Policy Framework, 2002).
The active ageing approach is based on the recognition of the human rights of older people and the
United Nations Principles of independence, participation, dignity, care and self fulfillment. It moves
from the assumption that older people are passive (a needs based approach) to the idea that people
should be afforded equality in all areas as they age (a rights based approach) ( Active Ageing: A Policy
Framework, 2002, p.

Baseball Case Study
The next study was in 2015 and was a total of 30 baseball players. The players returned to their
previous level of competition with an 82% rate. That study also showed a great number of players
came back with great speed as well, just over 12 months (O Brien 2015). Another study was over 137
MLB pitchers. The study focused on whether the pitcher could return and maintain the same workload
as before. The study concluded that the pitchers that have come back and are fully healed do not need
a lesser work load to continue to be healthy (Keller 2017). The next study that was concerned with
how a pitcher returned to the game was analyzed from numerous different pitchers from 2008 2013.

pitchers included in the study, 40 (15%) required at least 1 revision procedure during their playing

surgery to revision was 5.2 years (range, 1 13 years). The average length of career following primary
reconstruction for all players was 4.9 years (range 0 22 years) (Wilson 2015). While no one would
prefer to need a revision surgery, the success after the revision surgery can be good. One study
concluded that MLB pitchers who require revision UCL reconstruction after returning to play
following primary UCL reconstruction pitch at or above their pre primary UCL reconstruction
workload whereas control pitchers who did not require revision pitch significantly less, below their
pre primary UCL reconstruction (Keller 2017). So their study found that if you have the revision

procedure. Even though pitchers tend to play better after returning from their revision procedure, most

Effects Of Xenia In The Iliad
Xenia is an obligatory, socially regulated hospitality shown to suppliants and strangers by god fearing
hosts. This notion can be broken into two aspects: conduct and food and libations. When welcomed in
to a residence, hosts are expected to treat a guest respectfully and amicably this then transitions to the
food and libations portion of xenia. This facet revolves less on entertainment, but rather is symbolic of
a host opening their home as a place for a suppliant to rest and find asylum from the woes of travel. It
is the recipient s responsibility to treat the host with respect, as they are visitors. I assert that xenia has
a direct effect on a relationship and its ensuing trajectory because respect is the foundation of xenia;
these effects can be seen throughout The Iliad and The Odyssey, particularly in the interactions of ...

Spoils were an important part of war during the time of The Iliad, and could be items of value or
people. Chryses was a priest of Apollo, whose daughter was taken as a spoil for Agamemnon, a Greek
warlord. Chryses approached Agamemnon about taking his daughter home, but Agamemnon refused
(Homer The Iliad 1.24 32). Agamemnon s refusal itself did not violate xenia, but his disrespect of
Chryses did: Agamemnon was not pleased And dismissed Chryses with a rough speech: Don t ever let
me catch you, old man, by these ships again, Sulking around now or sneaking back later. The god s
staff and ribbons won t save you next time. (Homer The Iliad 1.33 37). As Chryses was a priest of
Apollo, he beseeched Apollo to seek revenge against Agamemnon and the Greeks. Apollo answered
his prayer and decimated the Greeks with a plague (Homer, The Iliad, 1.45 51, 61 62). The plague was
a consequence of Agamemnon s brash reaction to Chryses peaceful solicitation for the return of his
daughter, which infringed upon the mutual respect aspect of

Abusive Supervisors
Abusive leaders blame, divide, marginalize, undermine, and intimidate employees (Kellerman, 2004;
Kusy Holloway, 2009). They torment their subordinates to the detriment of both the mission and
people, undermining a positive organizational climate (Ashforth, 1994; Reed, 2004). Their behaviors
create an environment that build walls, and crushes creativity and loyalty. As this type of incivility
whether from a leader or colleague, has been found to impact productivity. For example, Kusy and
Holloway (2009) found that 50 percent of those who experienced incivility reported spending time
concerning about it instead of working, while 25 percent explicitly said they cut back their work
activity. These responses indicate that long term toxicity can and often decrease creativity and
innovation.
Abusive supervisors intimidate and marginalize their subordinates, who in response, prioritize safety
over productivity (Ashforth, 1994; Kellerman, 2004; Reed, 2004). In their attempts to maintain
control, they create groups and scapegoats to take the blame for all problems (Ashforth, 1994;
Kellerman, 2004; Lipman Blumen, 2005). In addition, supervisors can be arrogant and autocratic,
exhibiting varying degrees of emotional instability that undermine a positive organizational culture

acknowledge their bad leadership or do anything about it. The author defines the bad leader as
someone who is ineffective, and simply does not produce the changes desired by followers
(Kellerman, 2004). In addition, bad leaders are unethical because they are lacking the ability to
distinguish between right and wrong (Kellerman, 2004, p.

Venipuncture Procedure
As difficult as this procedure might seem, performing a routine venipuncture is a relatively easy and
quick procedure. The word venipunture in medical terminology is defined as puncture to the vein
which often is performed by a phlebotomist; this healthcare professional is a trained individual who
specializes in drawing blood. Let s face it, many of us are afraid of needles, even I would have never
thought of performing this procedure myself. So if I did, so can you.
Let s begin by proceeding with the first and most important step, greet and identify the patient. Always
ask his or her name and date of birth. It is necessary to make the patient feel welcomed and secure.
Verifying their identity is a procedure for assurance that all given tests are not performed on wrong
patients, this could result in wrong test results for the patient.
Start with gathering the following supplies: A pair of gloves, needle, vacutainer (tube holder), blood
collection tube, tourniquet, alcohol, gauze and band Aids. When choosing the tubes, determine this
according to the physicians order given to you by the patient. When choosing the needle size,
determine this based on the physical appearance of the vein, this will not only make it easier but it will
also make your technique better. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now explain the procedure to the patient so that when the moment arises they are prepared as to what
to expect. First you will put your gloves on, sit the patient down and apply the tourniquet to palpate
the vein. The key to puncturing the vein is not by seeing it but rather by palpating it; this is the proper
technique that is used when venipuncture. You will take a few second to examine and feel the vein;
this will give you a clear vision of the depth and width. This step should not take longer than one
minute. After you are positive about the puncture site, proceed with cleansing the area and allow the
area to dry for thirty

They have a joint duty to ensure that care services are ready for when a person comes out of
compulsorily detainment. This helps to create a smooth transition between care services for the
patient. The support is offered to all people are is not means tested. The care is free for all patients and
includes care in the person s own home and paying for care home fees. However the local authority
may decide that a person is no longer eligible for after care support under section 117 and will have to
start paying for their own care. Challenging sections Sections can be challenged, there are four main
ways to challenge a section. This first way is to ask a Responsible Clinician to discharge them. The
responsible clinician must discharge the patient if the medical conditions not bad enough to justify the
admission. The next step is to to request a meeting with hospital managers and ask them to discharge
them. The third step is to ask your next of kin to discharged you by giving the hospital 72 hours notice
in writing. After this, if the responsible clinician allows it the next of kin can discharged the person
from the detainment. However the Responsible Clinician may if they think you would act in a manner
dangerous to yourself or others. The finial option is to apply to the Mental Health Tribunal (MHT).
The patient will be able to use a legal aid to get a solicitor free of charge to help you with your appeal
to the tribunal and during the hearing.

Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory Analysis
Although the film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was meant to entertain a young audience
with light hearted content yet it had such a consequential effect. On June 30, 1971, the movie Willy
Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was released. The film was written by Roald Dahl and directed by
Mel Stuart. The motion picture acquires several examples of parallels with the Bible. There are five
children that possessed the Golden Ticket and each child was faced with a disaster because they did
not behave or sin. Even some adults like Mr. Wonka and Grandpa Joe sin themselves. Throughout the
film, it shows the seven deadly sins gluttony, pride, sloth, greed, envy, anger, and lust.
The most well known child is Augustus Gloop who symbolizes gluttony. Within the first seen with
Gloop, the audience can view him consuming plethora amount of food. Furthermore, in the movie
Gloop and the rest of the children were warned not to drink from the chocolate river that Willy Wonka
worked tremendously on. However, Augustus Gloop does not listen and ends up falling into the
chocolate river. Gloop had several different types of candy he could pick and choose from yet decides
to go for the one he is not granted to. For this misbehavior, Gloop was sucked into the pipe, where he
was temporarily stuck. Later on, he was able to travel to the Fudge Room where he is nearly turned
into a chocolate covered strawberry, displaying the consequence of gluttony.
Another sinful child is Violet

Woody Allen s Irrational Man
Irrational Man is a 2015 American mystery drama film which has been written and directed by Woody
Allen. The film stars well known actors; Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone, Parker Posey and Jamie

expanding wider. The film was Jack Rollins final production before his death in June 2015, having
produced Allen s films since the 1970s. Irrational Man, (Woody Allen s 327th film), tells the story of a

idea murdering a judge. And the young intelligent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

several occasions such as the Russian roulette scene where she (an intelligent student) has really no

be only there to serve as something different and new in Abe s otherwise depressing life.
Unfortunately while this would be a perfectly fine character persona for an extra in the film, it just
didn t work in with being tied to one of the main characters. This is disappointing when all of a sudden
like a Nancy drew novel she pieces together the fact that Abe is behind the murder because up until
that point she has just been an attractive academically intelligent extra in Abe s life. Jill very quickly

The Health Care Crisis And An Understanding Of The Reforms
A. The health care crisis and an understanding of the reforms The American Health Care system to say
the least is wasteful, bloated, and generally inefficient and therefore in dire need for immediate review.
This has largely been as a result of factors such as costs, poor investment return for outlays,
inequitably distribution, and being based on anachronistic business model geared at treating diseases
more than promoting wellness. The figures are all there to see why a radical surgery of the health care
reforms has been long overdue. One reason why we have been spending too much on health care is
out of our incentives which are perverse. we have been paying doctors by the procedures they perform
as opposed to the quality of health care we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Over the last few decades, a deliberate fundamental but progressive shift in structure towards
provision of care in outpatient settings avoiding inpatient overnight stays in hospitals has been
embraced. Theoretically, such a shift is meant to save on costs as fixed costs in outpatients setting are
generally lower than in hospital stays. Unfortunately, this shift resulted to much higher utilization and
adding more costs to the system. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) was signed into law by President
Obama on March 23, 2010 which marked a historic milestone for the Democrats who had for decades
been yearning for such a legislation. It signified a turning point in Americans healthcare expansion,
availability and affordability. The coming into force of the Act gave hard working Americans families
security by holding the insurance companies accountable as well as lowering the cost of health care,
and giving them more freedom and control in making their health care choices and improving the care
quality. Previously, different reforms in the health care sector have been proposed to address issues of
cost as well as coverage to include such health areas like prevention and treatment of chronic ailments,
obesity, defensive medicine, incentives rewarding more care, redundant payment systems, rationing,
doctors and nurses shortage, fraud, use of imaging technology, tax

1920s Dance In The 1920s
1920s Dance Styles
During the 1920s, dancing was one of the main forms of entertainment. There were lots of new dances
introduced during this time. It became the newest craze of the 1920s. People would dance anywhere
they could, but mainly in their homes, clubs, parties, and during competitions. These new dances
captivated the nation, because they were easy to learn, promoted new types of clothing, and assisted in
the advancement of entertainment. One thing that contributed to the popularity of dancing in the 1920s
is how universally simple they made the dances. If these dances would have been harder to learn, not
as many people would have been doing them. Many people know that, during the Jazz Age, almost
everyone danced so they did a dance almost anyone could do (Nelson). When Billie Putman was
growing up, there were dances every weekend at the big auditorium in the middle of town. Everyone
in her small town would show up to dance. She remembered going to the dances with her mom to help
her serve refreshments downstairs, while most of the town was upstairs dancing. If dancing was so
popular in such a small town in Idaho, it s unimaginable how influential it must have been in big
cities(Nelson). Since dancing in the 1920s was so simple, it made it easier to ... Show more content on

  • 2. A New Drug For Weight Management BIOL 376 Samuel McCaffrey 43671462 (Word Count=1650) Liraglutide is a new drug for weight management presently in clinical trial. Explain the proposed mechanism of the drug and briefly report the outcome of the clinical trials. Introduction Liraglutide is a glucagon like peptide 1 receptor agonist (GLP 1), which is synonymous with the naturally occurring human peptide GLP 1 produced in the colon and solitary tract of the brain (Baggio and Drucker, 2007). The drug was developed recently for weight management and the treatment of diabetes mellitus type 2 (DM2) and has clinically been shown to promote weight loss. As rates of obesity and DM2 increase for both adults and children in Australia halting and reversing this increasing trend has become a national and worldwide health priority (Australia s health 2012, 2012). This essay will illustrate how the drug Liraglutide can aid in reversing this trend and promote weight loss. Background The drug Liraglutide is seen on the market as two different medications, Victoza and Saxenda. Initially the drug was approved only for treatment of DM2 back in 2009, but recently was approved for treatment of obesity as well. The common but different forms differ slightly in their composition and so are used for different purposes, Victoza for diabetes and Saxenda for weight loss. The drug is recommend to be used as an adjunct to diet and exercise in the treatment of individuals with a BMI higher than 27 and for those with DM2 to achieve ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Compare And Contrast Amazon Pricing Strategy Due to multiple external and internal factors, pricing strategy has become one of the main focuses for a ranging scale of businesses. For some small companies, cost leadership from low quality materials and less overheads allow low prices, resulting in competitiveness and survival of their business, in comparison to larger businesses who are able to charge more as they may have better quality products and large finances to allow above the line promotion. Furthermore, their approaches to the market place will differ; businesses who aim to charge less, will market their products at people who can demographically afford the products and understand their goods/service are price and income elastic. In a dissimilar fashion, organisations who look to charge higher, approach marketplaces with strong brands for their loyal customers with the belief the high prices are acceptable. Regarding Jeff Bezos quote, the statement ended with we will be the second . The Amazon billionaire acknowledges the importance of meeting pricing strategy for consumer needs and desires. Thus, with a clear focus of keeping prices low, Amazon select suitable operations such as being an e tailer and marketing techniques to stay successful. This essay will critically analyse the comparisons between the different scales of businesses and to which the way they strategically operate, approach the market and the factors that enforce this. • 5. The City Of A Small Town Is Better Than Living At A Big... Last August, I took a trip with the youth group from my church to Washington, D.C. to visit the church there in our congregation. While I was there for seven days, I found many things there that were much better in the large city, and other things very odd. Going out in the city and finding out these things were very interesting to me since I live in a small town Kalona, Iowa, with a population around three thousand people. After experiencing both, I can definitely say that both have their benefits and disadvantages. Personally, I still feel that living in a small town is better than living in a big city. In the big city, there are many things that are different, but the most obvious one is the sights. There is lots of tall buildings and streets connecting everywhere. Millions of people walking in every which way to do their own agendas. One thing that is evident while sight seeing is the amount of pollution. Trash and litter surrounded you almost everywhere you went, including the streets, curbs, water, grass, sidewalks, and even some buildings. As we walked around the monuments, one could see trash and pollution in the ponds surrounding our nation s famous monuments. It was surprising to me more people didn t want to keep them looking nice. Similarly, the small town of Kalona does have litter, but not nearly as much as the city. However, the city has much more people than a small town, so this is logical of the amount of pollution. In addition to the realization of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nebraska is the state My Antonia is set in, but most of the novel goes for a lot of the states in the west. According to Kathleen Norris, Cather had the great good fortune to have lived among the first generation of white settlers in 1880s Nebraska, and she gives witness to their time and place in such a way that American literature will never forget them (Norris). This quote helps the reader see that the author, Willa Cather, had a reliable point of view when she was writing this story because it was a lot of the stuff that she went through and saw. The environment includes the weather they had their and the condition of the soil. They considered the area a vast treeless wasteland (Settlers). This quote shows that it didn t have many trees which made the weather worse because there were no trees to stop the blizzards and storms. The book has a great example of this, All day the storm went on. The snow did not fall this time, it simply spilled out of heaven, like thousands of featherbeds being emptied. This shows that it doesn t just fall it pours out, almost like a rain storm. Many saved up their food for the winter, so they didn t have to go outside as much. They still had to take care of their fields and such, but they mostly stayed inside. In anyone s life their environment is vital to how they turn out in life and how they act around others. Although it can t decide for he or she, it can lead to a certain way of living. The environment in the west leads most of the people that live there to be hard workers and they are also not as affectionate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Stranger Research Paper The exposure of religion usually starts at a young age, or in people s teenage years. When somebody is not exposed at these ages they usually seek it out for themselves or never do. When they know nothing about religion or care nothing about it they usually disregard morals. This means they do what they want because they do not believe in right and wrong. When they do not believe in these things they are usually seen as outsiders to the rest of the world. Their way of life is affected like their emotions, relationships, and judgement. It is hard for them to get into a relationship because they have little or show no emotions and can sometimes make bad decisions. He shot an Arab that had been following Raymond because of what he did to the girl. Also because they had gotten into an argument earlier in the day one in which Raymond had been hurt. He walked up to the spot where he thought they would be and shot and then waited and then shot him multiple times. He not only shot him multiple times but the Arab did not even try to defend himself. Even though he shot him multiple times and had a reason he states I never intended to kill the Arab (Camus 102). When at the trial the prosecutor supposedly observed him various times once he even said that Meursault was already a criminal at heart (Camus 122). This statement was only made on the physical behavior Meursault was displaying on the day of his mother s funeral. When the whole trail was supposed to be about how he killed the Arab his accusers somehow kept bringing up the fact that he showed no affection towards his mother at the funeral. This show just how the society he is in and how they act is totally opposite from his point of views. Meaning that how he does things will be seen by society as uncanny and they will condemn it as wrong. In the article Justice and Morality in The Stranger by A. • 8. The Importance of Literary Devices in The Seven Ages of... All the world s a stage the men and women merely players . This line is the beginning of the The Seven Ages of Man and is a recurring question throughout the poem. You may wonder how the world is stage, and through his use of similes, metaphors, and imagery Shakespeare explains this elaborates on this question. William Shakespeare s use of similes in the Seven Ages of Man helps to start the poem and give it a meaning early on by adding emphasis on certain topics. For example in the beginning he uses the men and women merely players (Line 2) to explain that people don t own the world but live in it. By using this simile he explains how people progress through life like a play, making an entrance to the stage and leaving afterwards. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore Shakespeare compares The Last Age to childishness and oblivion meaning that after you have gone through all the stages everything you have built up demolishes and you start back at the first stage. The last line of the poem helps you to determine how the play ends and because this comparison is made it makes you aware of people in your life that have gone through a few of the stages described by Shakespeare. Giving you the idea that the stages may occur in your life but in the end it really doesn t matter what you have done, because it will most likely be destroyed. The idea that what you have developed will be demolished makes you wonder what you are doing and have done with your life. Imagery is prominent in The Seven Ages of Man and is used to give meaning to a line or phrase meaning while creating complex images. When Shakespeare describes the boy as a creeping snail and sighing like a furnace you can image a drowsy boy who is on his way to school, but when described as having a shining morning face it gives you a completely different idea. By placing two differential images close together Shakespeare creates two separate moods in a few lines, which helps to determine the difference between two phases. Later on in the poem he uses the same strategy and says the man is bearded like a pard , portraying the image of a slightly older man who has moved on from the childish phase of the young schoolboy. He also says he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The two main explanations why some exotic species become invasive species are superiority in competition and the opportunistic use of ecological niches generated by human activities. (Nishizawa). Invasive species contributed to the decline of 42% of the threatened and endangered species in the United States. Not only that, invasive species impact is about five percent of the world s economy. • 10. Definition Of Racism Title When it comes to racism we all have our own opinion on what this term may mean. However, when it comes to race, there are privileges not many of us have the opportunity to take advantage of because on our ethnicities. The word racism can have different meanings depending on what your own viewpoint is. Racism has been common for plenty of decades and in fact, is very popular today. In fact, well known speakers such as Beverly Daniel Tatum and Peggy McIntosh provide their own viewpoints on the common topics of race and racism. First, Beverly D. Tatum s viewpoint on racism is that she does not see it as an act of hate, but rather she sees it as a system of privileges based on one s own race (Sweeney, 33). Tatum makes it clear throughout this excerpt that race determines the privileges you are guaranteed to receive and the fact that those privileged individuals do not notice the power they have compared to others. She connects the idea of white privilege with her definition of racism, and clearly states that racism could also be connected with people of color; however, people of color are not racist because they do not benefit from racism (Sweeney, 37). Tatum gives many examples of White privilege to support her idea that racism is a system of advantage based on race. For instance, Tatum talks about one of her students who was a White male that was in her psychology of racism course and that he did not know how advantaged he was until the end of this class. • 11. Essay on Presentation of Self Claim Erving Goffman s Presentation of Self Claim Erving Goffman was a sociologist who studied and analyzed social interaction. He took special interest in explaining how people live their lives as if they were actors performing on stage. He looked at the world as if he were a director seeing what goes on in everyday life. He called this observation of the world dramaturgical analysis. He applied terms to this explanation, which include the concepts of status and role. He referred the part in a play as the status, and then the script is the role. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All of our performances are different though. They can also vary because every place we are can change how we perform . Body language is a critical aspect in our daily performances. Sometime body gestures can tell people things about you that you may not have want them to know, such as the mood you are in that day. If you lied to someone they may be able to tell because of the body image of nervousness you possess because of lying. Nonverbal communication can often provide those around you with enough information to catch you in a lie. Another element in presentation depends on gender too. For example, Goffman implied that men need more space than women do. Certain facial expressions affect presentation as well, such as eye contact and smiling. Presentation also brings about the elements of embarrassment, idealization, and tact. In modern day life, a prime example of presentation of self can be seen through a professor teaching a class. The students in this case are the audience and the professor of course is the actor on stage, or in front of the classroom. Students can often times be a very intimidating audience. The professor must also present his or her self in the proper manner. Negative body gestures can cause the students to not pay attention. Idealization plays a huge role in the professor s presentation as well. They go into the classroom with certain motives for teaching others. Sometimes embarrassment plays a role too. Because ... However, a few years later, some wolves were captured and they were reintroduced into other states. Since then they have repopulated, but they are far from a stable population. • 14. Analysis Of The Poem Terrace Mcnally s The Mother,... HIV/AIDS affects people both directly and indirectly. It is an extremely painful for the person with the virus, and it is emotional for them and their loved ones. Many people have preconceived ideas about what types of people get HIV/AIDS and can be stubborn and unaccepting. Terrace McNally elicits empathy from the audience by using literary devices including; the unique characteristics of Andre s Mother, and the balloons symbolizing Andre s soul. I am very compassionate about the topic because my sister is HIV positive. I know that she has been through a lot, and people have treated her differently because of it. However, she is still the same person. Terrace McNally decided to make the character of Andre s Mother nameless. Choosing not to give her a name leaves room for the reader to imagine why she is nameless. Giving a character a name makes them more personable, leaving a character unnamed would usually make them less memorable. It is difficult to remember much about a character that you can not address by name. However, in this situation, being nameless creates a distinct and intriguing character. It forces the audience to question why these choices were made, and this allows the audience to use their imagination and think about what type of person Andre s Mother was. I believe that Andre s Mother s silence shows that she is not accepting of her son and that they do not have a close and open relationship. Andre does not even tell his mother about his partner Cal in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But, what if this melody is a soundtrack of a movie? The music is written as an accompaniment to the film rather than an independent listening and it is often a worthless activity to spend any precious listening time to it. This peculiar album, Music from the Motion Picture: The Pianist, released on December 4th of 2002, consists almost completely of a series of classical and some romantic compositions. There are two major themes throughout the Nocturne, which are arranged in the following sequence: [Themes A + B + Transition], and then [Theme A Revisited + Ending]. The performance of the music in the film in general is a compilation of compositions from one of the greatest innovators in the 19th century classical piano: Frédéric Chopin. The dynamics of these pieces seem to have a good variation and flexibility, even though sometimes it appeared to be too loud. The tempo used in most of his compositions was moderato; overall, the compositions sounded right and according to the moment. Also his rubato is very generous, and more than anyone, Chopin allows for generous rubato. However, rubato should only be heavily applied to the melody and not so much to the ... Gilgamesh lives in a way that is ordained by the gods: The destiny was fulfilled which the father of the gods, Enlil of the mountain, had decreed for Gilgamesh (Sandars 118). The leader is not overly revered and is seen as embodying the fate, security, and stability of the people and their kingdom. When Gilgamesh dies, the people lament. Every aspect of life is ascribed to a god or gods. The death of Gilgamesh is attributed to Ereshkigal, the Queen of Death, and to all the gods of the dead (Sandars 119). The people see the world as a place of many dangers, ruled by different gods who behave as rulers of their particular kingdom. Humbaba is such a ruler, and his domain is the forest known as the Country of the Living, lying somewhere on the outer bounds of earth and reality (Sandars 33). The people value the warlike strength of Gilgamesh because he can protect them from these other gods, as well as from other rulers who might attack them. • 18. Ultrasound Essay Ultrasound is a therapeutic modality that uses vibrations which are produced mechanically at a higher frequency than sound waves. These waves are referred to as ultrasonic as they are unable to be heard by humans (Robertson et al, 2006). The success of the use of ultrasound has been recorded as early as the 1930 s, when in Berlin, sciatica in patients had been shown to have improved greatly. This evidently resulted in further research and new treatment methods being created (Stanley, 1958). Since then a lot of research has been carried out and advances in the use of ultrasound has been made and are continuing to be made all the time. Healing of pressure sores have also improved through the application of ultrasound at a low intensity (Williams, 1968). There have however been reports suggesting that ultrasound can increase the size of ulcers following treatment as the intensity was excessively higher than required, contradicting William s theory (Harvey and Elphick, 1969). It has been suggested that the application of ultrasound at a low dose can increase degranulation of mast cells and the release of histamine accelerating the acute inflammation phase. It can also reduce the amount of fluid being released from the capillaries following injury and collagen synthesis can be increased during the repair process (Denegar, Saliba and Saliba, 2006). If there is more exposure than required it can result in a breakdown of tissues and can increase the acute inflammatory response for a longer period of time, resulting in the patient suffering with their injury longer than the average healing time. Baker and Robertson (2001) came to the conclusion that therapeutic ultrasound may not be more effective than placebo ultrasound for pain, musculoskeletal disorders or soft tissue healing. • 20. How Depression Affects The Quality Of Interpersonal... Depression is one of the most common psychiatric disorders in the United States. About 20% of people in the U.S. will experience an episode of depression some time in their lifetime. Of these people, women make up a majority of this group (Gotlib Hammen, 2008) among men and women, it is a 1:2 ratio (Kessler, 2003). Depression is responsible for both social and economic disability among other mental and behavioral disorders during early and middle adulthood (Goodman Tully, 2008; Wilhelm, 2006). During this period in life, women are most likely mothers and are still supremely primary caretakers for children (Goodman Tully, 2008; Lamb, 2000). Depression can negatively affect the quality of interpersonal relationships, including spouses and children (Hammen, 2008). Mothers have the most contact and influence of a child s caretaking. If a mother is depressed, that influence would be more impressionable than if the child s father was depressed in terms of the child s ability to internalize and externalize problems (Goodman Tully, 2008; Connell Goodman, 2002). Children with clinically depressed mothers have been shown to experience withdrawn or negative interactions with their mothers that can subsequently lead to behavioral problems (Turney, 2011; Turner Lloyd, 1999). Depression in mothers can have detrimental consequences on the relationship that a mother has with their child and the child s future health. The pointed arch was their first invention that removed the awkward look of disproportional arches at the sides of the Romanesque cathedrals. The pointed arch also directed the weight of the vault downward to help support the massive ceilings. The second advancement of the Gothic architects solved problems of the Romanesque period. • 22. Active Aging Essay Active aging is defined as the maintenance of positive subjective well being, good physical, social and mental health and continued involvement in one s family, peer group and community throughout the aging process (Hofer, 2016, p.1). Active aging promotes the vision of all individuals regardless of age, socioeconomic status or health fully engaging in life within all seven dimensions of wellness: emotional, environmental, intellectual/cognitive, physical, professional/vocational, social and spiritual ( What is Active Aging, 2017). Active does not just refer to the ability to participate in the workforce or be physically active. It also refers to the continued participation in social, economic, cultural, spiritual and civic affairs. Older people who are ill, live with disabilities, and/or are retired from work can still be active participants in the lives of their families, peers, and communities. The goal of active aging is to extend healthy life and the quality of life for people as they age ( Active Ageing: A Policy Framework, 2002). The active ageing approach is based on the recognition of the human rights of older people and the United Nations Principles of independence, participation, dignity, care and self fulfillment. This notion can be broken into two aspects: conduct and food and libations. When welcomed in to a residence, hosts are expected to treat a guest respectfully and amicably this then transitions to the food and libations portion of xenia. This facet revolves less on entertainment, but rather is symbolic of a host opening their home as a place for a suppliant to rest and find asylum from the woes of travel.
