Compulsory Heteronormativity
Compulsory Heterosexuality
Introduction
In today s world, as humankind is still in progress, we have a much more liberated world
compared to past. In terms of politics, we learned discrimination is not a honourable case to be
involved in and we tried to minimize constraints reflected on other races, other nationalities, in short
all of the others that are not similar to us . Us is, without doubt, white, Western man. Despite all the
back drawed prejudices of others in the name of liberation, respect and equality, it does not seem to
be the situation for non heteronormatives to live in a peaceful environment. Since I came to
Amsterdam as an exchange student this term, I had the opportunity to experience daily life with all
the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite the fact that compulsory heterosexuality is the central issue of homosexual argument s,
there is limited work specifically concentrated on heteronormativity. Majority of the articles are
about gay lesbian rights and inequalities in terms of citizenship rights. However, almost every
article reflects the normality of homosexuality contradictory to heteronormative theory. All of them
lay natural causes and reasons down on the table and accuse heteronormativity of being
reproduction obsessed.
Paper
In this paper, my main argument is to reject the superiority of the normal heterosexual and to
equalize the non heterosexual. So here is the question; what is normal? Who defines it?
We have evidence that in the past, a long time ago, from the start of the first civilization, sex was a
primary issue. Putting aside people s active sexual lives, homosexuality is known to be very
common in Sumerians, Ancient Greek and Romans .(Heterosexuality). I do not mean to say that
homosexuality was common than heterosexuality but even in story of Gilgamesh the hero is said to
be in love with the man he needed to fight with.
One other thing claiming the normality of non heterosexualism is the invention of terms . It was
only 19th century the term homosexuality was invented, then followed by heterosexuality
(Heterosexuality) . Bisexuality came later in 20th century to define people who do not have
dominant choices for a sex partner. As it is seen even the terms are

Army Respect
What is respect? Respect can be in various forms. It can be knowledge, self awareness, trust,
character, honesty, understanding, and a positive attitude. But respect also has to be earned. If
you can t respect yourself then you won t be able to respect others. To gain respect you have to
treat others the way you would want to be treated. Without respect you can t have team work and
care for other peoples well being.
It is respect which creates devotion to the team, and the important part is that that respect flows
both up and down the chain of command. A leader respects the skills, strengths, and sacrifices of
the people who work for him, and by giving that respect, in time and with effort, his troops come to
respect him as well. That ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, without loyalty, respect is not present. If you are a disloyal member of the team you
fail to contribute to the team in a manner that is respectable. The lack of loyalty is disrespectful
and in turn awards you none for yourself.
Respect is described as esteem for or a sense of the worth or excellence of a person, a personal
quality or ability, or something considered as a manifestation of a personal quality or ability. In the
United States Army it is inaccurate to say you are required to respect the man or woman behind the
rank. The greater rank does not imply a greater human being. However, It would be quite accurate
to say that in the mechanics of the relationship between a lower enlisted soldier and a Non
commissioned Officer regardless of the enlisted soldiers opinion of the person the lower enlisted
service member will respect the rank and treat the Non commissioned officer with the same respect
that is due to the rank worn. This hierarchical design is intended to maintain an order based on
qualification and experience.
It states in the Phantom Warrior Standard book that every soldier obtains upon arrival to Fort
Hood that, Courtesy among members of the Armed Forces is vital to maintain military discipline.
Respect to seniors will be extended at all times. I realize now

How Change Is Important For The Success Of Managing Change
Change plays a vital role in the world of business. It is also an aspect that cannot be stopped, it can
only be managed or led, no matter how much businesses try change is inevitable. Therefore, it is the
job of the company to be able to quickly adapt when change hits. There are many aspects which can
contribute to the need for change, both internal and external. Change managementcan be regarded as
managers applying their existing knowledge base in a systematic manner to problems requiring
technical solutions, with minimal inputs from other quarters ... in a static and isolated environment
(Paton and McCalaman, 2000, p.21). However, businesses do not have to fear change, it can, when
managed correctly, bring an overall improvement on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This framework can help to identify areas which need to be changed, to improve performance. For
instance, under the superordinate goals element are the mission, vision, goals and objectives
(Johnson et al., 2014). If this element is different to what is desired by the company, then change is
required. In addition, if members of staff are underperforming, then it can be identified that a
change is necessary.
Therefore, it can identify internal triggers which may bring about the need for change, such as:
New senior management or chief executive
Poor performance of staff
Loss of profit
New missions, visions, goals and objectives
High employee turnover
Low morale of staff
The use of new technology
The relocation of factory, staff, resources, etc.
Merger, Acquisition, Takeover or Divestment
Shortages or surpluses of labour (Huczynski and Buchanan, 2013; Johnson et al., 2014; Paton and
McCalman, 2000)
In addition, the 7s can be split into hard and soft factors. Hard factors, such as: strategy, structure
and systems, are easily identifiable, limited problems in which solutions are more feasible (Paton
and McCalaman, 2000). According to Sirken, Keenan and Jackson (2006), hard factors have three
distinctive characteristics. Firstly, hard factors can be measured in both direct and

Totalitarian Methods Of Domination
Arendt explained that totalitarian methods of domination are uniquely suited to programmes of
mass extermination such as the massacring of Jewish citizens in Germany by the Nazis (Arendt,
1979, p. 440). However, Anthony Court expands on Arendt s theory of totalitarianism by stating
that previous regimes of terror, does not simply aim to extinguish physical life but rather total
terror is preceded by the obliteration of civil and political rights as well as exclusion from the
public sphere, the confiscation of property and lastly the deportation and murder of entire extended
families and their surrounding communities (Court, 2008, p. 102). This definition is clearly seen
throughout history whether it be associated with World War II, Stalinism, ISIS, Al Qaeda or the
frequent riots occurring in western societies such as the Oakland 2009 riots, London 2011 riots or
the Ferguson 2014/15 riots with each riot strongly associated with racial tension and unrest. Each of
these events have different levels of totalitarianismbut show that society does not learn from past
events. Arendt explains that totalitarianism is formed when governments have emerged as a result
of the institutionalisation of terror and violence (D Entreves, 2014). However since Stalinism and
Nazism there has not been a period of time where terror or violence has been extinguished, whether
it be state racism, nationalism or terrorism global society has not transitioned away from
totalitarianism. Arendt

Many factors led up to the Seven Years War and in this paper I will describe the social and
political backgrounds existent in eighteenth century America, explain how the diverse
backgrounds and views led to the Seven Years War and explain how the outcome of the Seven
Years War affected me and America. All of this will be explained as you read along in this paper.
In the seventeenth century before I was born, the colonies were becoming overrun by various, very
different immigrant groups (Davidson, J., 2006). Famine, warfare, and religious persecution forced

Most of what a person needed to know they learned at home. Boys learned to farm, build, and hunt
while girls learned how to garden, care for the family, sew and cook.
The spread of Enlightenment ideals was the primary cause of the first Great Awakening and it
further intensified conflicts between eighteenth century colonial citizens (Davidson, J., 2006). The
conflict between superpowers for control of the continent began the Seven Years War. Some put the
beginning of the Seven Years War in 1754, but it actually occurred from 1756 to 1763. In the
Seven Years War, France and Great Britain struggled to control eastern North America(Davidson,
J., 2006) The area between the Mississippi River and the Appalachian mountain range was
contested as both nations claimed it. When the British won the Seven Years War, their colonial
holdings doubled in size and they gained control of North America. Conflicts over trading rights
and the control of the Ohio country was the primary cause of the French and Indian War (Davidson,
J., 2006). British control of North American and the Seven Years War led to many problems as the
British struggled to maintain their supremacy. The French came out behind in each of these
struggles. They lost their position as highest colonial power for the next generation their position
would not be restored until the French Revolution of the 1790 s.

Juvenile Crime
Imagine two innocent young children; one girl, age seven and the other, a boy, age nine. The
two are playing video games inside on a snowy, frigid day. After, the young girl s father, Richard
Ratti, ended the festivities a seven year old, Jessica Ratti went outside to ride a snow mobile
with her best friend. The nine year old boy, identified as Cameron Kocher, enraged at his parents
for not allowing him to participate stormed home, unlocked his father s gun cabinet, and stalked to

Following a steady decline since 2006, the Juvenile violent Crimes Index arrest rate reached a new
historic low point in 2014. However, crime rates in the 1980 s was comparatively lower than the
recent years. The arrest rate may have lowered, but this could mean that children are becoming
more efficient criminals. Which is why we need to reinforce the juvenile justice system. A quote
from Hanna Chiou further fortifies this statement. ...if our justice system uses mental incompetency
as the reason juveniles have their own separate and more lenient court, why aren t 40 year olds
with the mind of a 10 year old prosecuted in the juvenile justice system... (Chiou 130).Another
quote from Chiou expresses the same fact: ...fully competent and mature juveniles are fully capable
of committing the same crime as a competent adult. (Chiou 141). Why is it that in the eyes of
society even children with high intelligence, who are fully competent, that have malignant motives
for committing these vehement crimes receive gentle treatment, or a mere pop or the wrist? Why
is it that age means automatic innocence? Children who commit these crimes have obviously
chose so. Remember: Young people have to obey the same laws as adults. ( Juvenile Crime 167).

Challenges As An International Student Essay
Challenges as an International Student and How to Succeed in a Foreign Country
Who wants to study abroad or planning for JTA? I would like to tell you that studying abroad as
an international student is very challenging event in our lives. But, once we accomplish our
challenges, we have a bunch of chances to have a better job. So let me talk about my five
challenges while staying here in the Philippines. The first challenge I was dealing with was of
course the weather. Since Philippines is hot all the time, I really had to deal with the hotness. I
was sweating every single time, but now I got used to this weather. I think the best way to adapt
to the weather is to increase our fluid intake with water or sports drinks. Staying hydrated is
extremely important when staying in hot weather. The second challenge was adapting to the
people. People in the Philippines are kind of friendly. Wherever I go, people are trying to talk to
me even if I don t know them. Maybe since I am a foreigner, they are kind of interested on me,
but I felt uncomfortable at first, because people in Korea actually don t talk to the strangers that
much. In this case, we really have to get use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Home sickness is another big challenge that you might have to face when going to a foreign
country, unless you already have family or friends there. Based on my friend who went to
Philippines alone, knowing absolutely no one, he faced this problem every day for the first
month or so. This is a very natural and common feeling, but again you cannot sit at a place and
wish for things to change. Make a habit of talking to your friends and family back home regularly,
but try not to only talk to them. Go out and talk to people in your new home; make friends, go
hang out with some people, it s not bad. Always try something new which can help us to survive
while staying in a foreign

Analysis Of Andy Warhol s Pop-Art
Art is one of the few things in the world that has a different criterion for everyone. Some prefer to
judge the techniques and details within each piece, but some would rather judge the perplexity of
the meaning behind each symbolism within an artwork. However, not all are divided by this fine
line. Hap from The Soul of Capitalism would be a part of the third group of people, the ones that
appreciate complicated techniques while looking behind the canvas to appreciate the meaning of an
artwork. Comparatively, the Canadians from When Canada Met Andy had the same perspective as
Hap. Although Hap will not favour or properly interpret Andy Warhols Pop Art , he will be able to
appreciate the work that Warhol put into his art. As we begin The Soul of Capitalism , it reveals
that Hap and her wife are art lovers in a traditional way. (1) Yet, Warhol s Small Torn Campbell s
Soup Can (figure 2) is leagues away from traditional. Hap concerns himself with landscapes and
seascapes, and the portraits and battle scenes (19), pieces that involve many complications and
exhaustive details. Unlike Warhol s box sculpture of a Del Monte carton which lacks the
sophistication that traditional art offers. Axel is able to draw out this conclusion, and for that
reason he gives them a detailed drawing of a corn head (4) rather than one of his more abstract
and modern works. Not only does it lack tradition and a post impressionism style, but pop art
requires a completely different

Dillard Reflection
The moth shook its sodden clumps of wing (Dillard 160). A quote as powerful as this one
captures the depth of Dillard s views, which have a crippling effect on her outlook towards life.
Dillard s environment is similar to that of the moth s, a limited amount of space to grow and
prosper. Growth is a factor Dillard sees as extremely important in life, as she tries to learn a vast
amount of information. Dillard has experiences in her memoir that mold who she is and what
she has become. In many ways, I too reflect on similar experiences that mold who I am and what
I have become overtime. Dillard and I experience a crippling environment and a pursuit to try
and learn everything. As a child, Dillard is aware of her own open mindedness and perceptive
abilities. A special memory that sticks out to her most is when she sees a Polyphemus moth
crippled by a glass jar too small. Dillard compares this moth in a crippling environment to her
own life in Pittsburgh, which is far too small. Pittsburgh is unable to hold the dreams that
Dillard has. Normal dreams of girls of wealth in Pittsburgh are marrying the elite boys, who will
go on to run the big companies in Pittsburgh. These big company boys do not interest Dillard, she
has a dream to explore and use her knowledge for something bigger. A moment like this is a
crucial turning point in Dillard s life because it represents an image for her to look at. This moth,
described as a deformed creature, is impactful because the moth walks

Rhetorical Analysis Of Space Travel
Space has always been a place of curiosity for human beings. Whether we should worship the Gods
that hide right behind the stars or simply dream to explore it one day. As we move into the 21st
century, some people still question what actions should be considered when thinking about space

become unsustainable for the inhabitants. While both sides contain valid points the rhetorical
devices in the numerous sources vary while also containing similarities. Context, Organization, the

the pride, determination and love of the Corps and our country that Krulak felt. 6a. With respect
to the author s conclusions (either specified or implied), I accept or agree with the following and
why: His explanations of the struggle to keep the Marine Corps alive and the early development
of amphibious doctrine make this book a great tool in understanding the modern Marine Corps.
6b. With respect to the author s conclusions (either specified or implied), I reject or do not agree

without also showing its achievements and how we can overcome any obstacle we are faced

Anne Sexton
Anne Sexton
Michealangelo, perhaps the most gifted sculptor and painter of all times, once said that geniuses
stand on the shoulders of other geniuses. As Michelangelo built upon the brilliance of his
predecessors, Anne Sexton does the same in her collection of poems entitled Transformations. She
renovated fairy tales as told by the Brothers Grimm by adding her own life experiences and view of
contemporary culture, hammering away until she built an entirely new art form. Anne Sexton has
had a notable effect upon the literary genre of fairy tales through this shocking transformation of
classic tales.
Anne Sexton was born in Newton, Massachusetts on November 9, 1928 to Ralph and Mary Gray
Staples Harvey. Her life as a child and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

psychological healing process (Middlebrook xiii xviii). With this encouragement Anne published
her first book of poetry, To Bedlam and Part Way Back, in 1960 (McCartan 2). The book was
well received and marked the beginning of her rise to the top. 1967 another major year in Sexton
s career; she won the Pulitzer Prize for Live or Die. Transformations, her book of poetic fairy
tales, was published later in 1971. On October 4, 1974, shortly after the release of Transformations,
Anne could no longer stand the pressures of her existence and committed suicide.
This biographical information is essential to understanding Anne Sexton s influence on the fairy tale
because her transformations of the Grimm Brother s work rises out of her personal turmoil.
Most of Sexton s works before and after Transformations are of the confessional style, but
through her poetic transformations of fairy tales, Sexton gives herself a more discrete outlet for
her passions (Ostriker 255). Her biographer Diane Middlebrook notes that the poems were a way
to place her struggles in legend rather than personal history (37). The intensely metaphorical
characters of Sexton s fairy poetry are one example of this. For instance, Judith the cold and
neglectful mother in Snow White surely represents Sexton s own callous mother (Middlebrook
37). Sexton s father is also recognizable in her work as

How Does Rob Hall Show Courage In Into Thin Air
I m not going to get killed, I answered. Don t be melodramatic. (Hall, pg. 88) The famous last
words is a clear indication of the doomed future of Rob Hall, but it also shows how courageous he
was throughout the whole expedition. In Into Thin Air , by Jon Krakauer, Rob Hall demonstrates
time and time again his courage by showing nothing but confidence in getting his clients to the
summit, by waiting for Doug Hansen at the summit, and by how long he actually stayed up on the
mountain. First, Rob Hall shows courage by being confident in his ability to get his clients up the
mountain. With so many incompetent people on the mountain, Rob said with a frown one evening
in late April, I think it s pretty unlikely that we ll get through this season without something bad
happening up high. This might have convinced the climbers that they were safe as long as they
were guided by Rob Hall. When he showed that confidence, it assures the climbers that they are in
the best hands possible. His stunning record of getting people to summit was probably directly
related to the way he thought of his climbingskills. And that s what people want in a climbing guide
for Mount Everest, and what people don t want is a non confident guide to have their fate in their
hands.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

however, wouldn t consider going down without Hansen. (Krakauer, pg. 241) This quote shows
that he wouldn t leave anyone on his team behind. It displays his underlying obligation of being a

The Chrysalids Character Analysis
We don t have to engage in grand, heroic actions to participate in the process of change. Small acts,
when multiplied by millions of people, can change the world
(Hord Zinn). David is a telepathic boy living in a post apocalyptic nuclear wasteland, called the
Tribulation in the book The Chrysalids. David manages to change the world and the vision of
mutation and deviants. David would have never able to do that without the people around that
changed him. This Essay will explore how Sophie, Uncle Axel and Gordon though minor characters
have a major impact on David s development.
Throughout the book Sophie had an exponential effect on David development even when not
present. Firstly, when David meets meets Sophie and learns about Sophie s supplementary toe,
David accepts Sophie for who she is. It was all twisted and puffy I didn t even notice then that it
had more than the usual amount of toes... (Wyndham 9). This is critical to David s development
as it influenced him to ignore the rules of the uneducated town of Waknuk. Secondly, when
Sophie is a suspected deviant David helps her run away to the fringes evading the law. I
managed to find some candles and light them, and when I had blown up the fire and put some
more on, that helped to make the place seem less lonely. (49). In this quote David is trying to
make the house seem occupied so the people of Waknuk do not get suspicious. This is imperative

studio Prana Film, which produced the 1922 German Expressionist film Nosferatu, was sued for
copyright infringement by the estate of Bram Stoker, the author of the 1897 Gothic Horror novel
Dracula, and ended up filing for bankruptcy after only distributing one film. While this may seem
like an immense failure for the studio behind the silent film, it ended up influencing almost a
century of vampires, in novels, television, and other films, and made the name Nosferatu
synonymous with the equally influential novel that it was based upon. On the surface, Nosferatu is
a blatant copy of Dracula, from it s plot, to the characters (besides the change in names), to the
portrayal of vampires in general; in reality, many aspects of both bodies of work differ immensely
from one another, providing both Stoker and director F. W. Murnau pieces that have influenced
generations of vampiremedia. The structure, characterization and overall tone of Nosferatu is
developed differently than Dracula in order to differentiate itself from it s source material and
provide an alternate adaptation of an iconic tale. Rather than illustrate the story epistolarily like
Dracula, Murnau chooses to utilize a limited point of view in Nosferatu in order to provide more
suspense and uneasiness for the viewer. While some forms of letters are present, much of the film is
shown through a limited third person

Brryson Tiller Analysis
My favorite R B artist is Bryson Tiller because of his voice, choice of words, and vibe he gives.
He is an single, American songwriter and singer/rapper from Kentucky with one daughter. Tiller
made a huge hit when his song Don t went massive on soundcloud with over 35 million streams.
Producers Timbaland and Drake helped lead him to multiple labels wanting to sign him, which
eventually led him to choose RCA records. Bryson Tiller recently dropped his 1st album on
October 2nd, 2015 named Trapsoul , which hit #11 on Billboard 200!

Their style of writing contributes to what the human mind thinks and how they act upon their
feelings. Bryson has two songs named Exchange and Right my Wrongs , that talk about how the
man truly feels about his woman. Even though he has done plenty wrong to her and he knows that
he has, he still feels like he has a chance to make things right. In Exchange , he has one verse that
says, This what happens when i think about you, I get in my feelings yeah, i start reminiscing

William wrote more with metaphors and rhetorical phrases that didn t always go along with the

writes about love as well as death, sometimes both. Here are some of his quotes: We are such stuff

Structure And Form In Sophocles Antigone
Tragedy , then is an imitation of an action that is serious, complete, and of a certain magnitude;
in language embellished with each kind of artistic ornament, the several kinds being found in
separate parts of the play; in the form of action, not of narrative; through pity and fear effecting
the proper purgation of these emotions (Aristotle VI). When one reads a tragedy, a series of
emotions are conducted throughout ones body and those emotions are the connection between
literature and art. If one were to look at a group of seemingly meaningless words manifested on a
piece of paper it would give the thought of confusion, but when the words are naturally streamed
together the sense of unity embraces a beautiful arrangement of parts. The necessity of structure
and form in literature and art are necessary for the success of the work. A piece of fabric will
never become a beautiful dress without the outline therefore, the structure and form give the
literature and art a place to grow and flourish. The needed structure and form allows the focal point
of the piece to be listened to. In Antigone, Sophoclesexercises the soul of a tragedy (Aristotle IV),
plot, by seductively piecing events in an appealing way, chronologically. The chronologic ability in
poetryis essential, however when a plot becomes episodic, acts succeed one another without
probable or necessary sequence (Aristotle IX) it grows foreseeable. In poetry it is not the poet s
responsibility to tell what has

My Favorite Words
I remember countless little episodes in my life where if my sister said a certain word to me, I
would be on the floor laughing within seconds. It seemed almost as if when we got older, we
started becoming more clever in choosing the words that would bring us to the point where we
were peeing our pants. From preschool to the end of elementary school my sister and I would
always find something, be it a phrase, word, or just a very strange idea that made us giggle until our
mom started laughing at the mere sight of us rolling on the floor in tears. These words cycled at a
rate of a new word about every month.
One of the first words evoking laughter was pickle . It was a simple word, but at that point it
was enough to make us giggle. Don t ask me why, but five year old me got a kick out of the
word. I would get off the bus from a long, three hours of half day kindergarten at Evamere
Elementary School, my PokГ©mon cards in hand, and as always, saw my sister waiting for me
as I approached the house through the garage. She had long bangs going down to her eyes
which she refused to cut, and she had her stuffed animal dog on a leash in tow behind her, its
dirty body dragging through God knows what on the kitchen floor. She was the classic toddler.
She saw me and her eyes lit up because she knew that just one word uttered from the day before
would make me laugh hysterically. I knew what she was thinking. I knew what she was going to
say, but it didn t matter because when I heard her

Argumentative Essay On Designer Babies
Imagine a world where having a baby was like looking through a menu at some fancy restaurant.
Imagine being able to choose how a baby will look and act. As mind boggling as it sounds,
scientists and researchers came across an unbelievable discovery: it is possible to design and edit
a baby however a person may like. Hanson asserts that personality, gender, appearance, intelligence,
hair color, and height can be changed using technology that was originally used for animals
(Hanson). These babies are called designer babies. Phillip Ball, a science writer, claims that it is
possible to change the genetic makeup of an unborn baby using bio technology. However, these
changes can have more negative effects than positive. Although most countries have not legislated
the use of genetic modification, studies have been done on human embryos in China (Ball).
According to The Ethics of Designer Babies article, a process called in vito fertilization must be
done before any genetic changes can be made. In this process, the mother s mature eggs are
retrieved from the ovaries and taken to a lab to be combined with sperm outside of the body. They
are fertilized in a petri dish. This is the reason why they are sometimes referred to as test tube
babies. After fertilization, the embryo is sent back into the mother s uterus and a third parent comes
into play. The third parent, or the donor, has his or her mitochondrial DNAinserted into the embryo,
a process known as cytoplasmic transfer.

Eight Psychological Types
The personality, or psyche, is a unity that includes all thought, feeling, and behavior, whether
conscious or unconscious. 2. The ego, the organization of the conscious mind, screens experiences
for admission to consciousness. Hence, the ego is often referred as the gate keeper to
consciousness. 3. Forgotten, suppressed, or rejected experiences are stored in the personal
unconscious. 4. A complex is a group of ideas that cluster together in the personal unconscious. 5.
The collective unconscious is composed of primordial images, or archetypes, inherited from our

Odyseus Hero Analysis

Hero
The Odysey is an exciting story about a special king. But what sets this story apart from the rest
is the example it sets forth of a real hero. In the Odysey, Homer writes about the story of a true
hero. That hero is known by the name of Odyseus. Odyseus is a true Hero only because of his
cleverness and strength which he displays on his way home to Ithaca. What is seen through him
are the characteristics of a true hero. Odyseus shows great strength on his baleful journey to his
beloved home of Ithaca. His great strength is seen many times, once as in the bow and arrow test.

Odyseus describes the situation as, I snatched it from the fire, while my men stood around and
heaven inspired us with great courage. Seizing the olive stake, sharp at the tip, we plunged it into
his eye, and I, perched above, whirled it around. Blood bubbled round the heated thing (page 112).
Fiercely they attacked the cyclops, under the leadership, and most importantly, strength of
Odyseus. Again and again, stuck in a precarious situation that looks like will be the end of
Odyseus, we are amazed. It is in these situations that the cleverness of Odyseus shows itself
most. One of these times are when Odyseus and his crew encounter sirens. Sirens, the hauntful
creatures that are known for luring sailors in to them, are what tried to tempt Odyseus. But
thanks to his cleverness, he plans ahead. Never hearing there voices before, but knowing just
how tempting they will be, he generates a plan. For all of his sailor crew, he has them fill their
ears with beeswax. But for himself, since he would like to hear the sirens voices, he has another
plan. He has his crew lash him to the mask of the boat. Odyseus does all this because he knows
neither himself or any of his crew members can withstand the temptations that the sirens show to
them. The way that the sirens present themselves is different for each person, as they know what
each person will be tempted by most. Here is what they

Employees must trust the people they work for, have pride in what they do, and enjoy the
people they work with (Wehner, 2015). This trust is established through management
creditability, employees feeling respected, and the extent that employee s expect to be treated
fairly. Additional criteria from the employee s perspective is the level of camaraderie employees
feel. From a manger s perspective a great place to work is one in which they achieve
organizational objectives by inspiring, speaking, and listening with employees who give their
personal best by thanking, developing, and caring and work together as a team/family by hiring,

Competitive advantage is a product or service that an organizations customers value more highly
than similar offerings from its competitors ( Xu, J., Quaddus, M., 2013 pg. 27). This definition
would have been helpful to its users before going into any theories about competitive advantages.

advantage. Include information such as Competitive advantage is the key to sales success and
high profitability. It is absolutely essential that you are excellent in some specific area that
customers value. You have to be able to say to your customers that, we offer the very best for you

dam of water to make water turbines and generators. The energy that the earth receives from the sun

narrator, Charlie, a teenage boy who writes a series of letters to an anonymous recipient.
Throughout the book Charlie is confronted with a variety of issues, including teen sexuality, drugs,
alcohol and suicide in which he expresses through his letters. Chbosky explores the themes of
sexuality, participation and innocence vs experience with the use of intertextual references to
enhance the chosen themes. The theme of sexuality is enhanced with the references to The Rocky

Charlie has been witness to rape, molest, abuse and the gay community. The Rocky Horror
Picture Show is mentioned throughout the novel as it provides the characters with a place
where they can let go and be themselves, without reservation and without judgment. Every
Friday the characters come together to watch and act out the show. This is an important place
for Patrick as he regularly plays the role of Frank N Furter, the transvestite in the film. Patrick is
open about his homosexuality, but cannot make his relationship with Brad public. Through
participation Patrick becomes truly liberated on stage as it allows him to be his true self.
Another example where the show has enhanced sexuality is when Charlie is asked to perform as
Rocky. The character enables Charlie to embody a more sexual version of himself, as it allows
him to temporarily leave behind his emotional baggage. Charlie in a letter describes his
experience But the best part was the scene with Janet where we had to touch each other. The
character allowed Charlie to express and embrace his sexuality without overthinking his actions.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show was a place where the characters could truly embrace their
sexuality and a version of themselves they were truly happy

As an artist I have always tried to be faithful to my vision of life, and I have frequently been in
conflict with those who wanted me to paint not what I saw but what they wished me to see. ―
Diego Rivera Diego Rivera was a Mexican painter and muralist who greatly changed the art world.
He didn t care what other people thought about his art and he painted what he saw, not what others
wanted him to see. It was his s creative manner and approach that set him apart from other artists; it
was what made him one of the most renowned artists that existed during his time period. This paper

He wanted to tell the story of each industry in the United State, its different divisions, and the
specific distributions of labor. It was the social structure of the American working class, and
Rivera wanted to capture all of it. He expressed himself so well and in a way that almost brought
a sense of lightness to the demanding and tough work that came along with working in a factory. It
s still rather fascinating to me, the process of trying to depict the meaning behind an artists piece of
artwork. This paper has presented the history behind Diego Rivera s famous mural paintings Detroit
Industry and the influence it made on both Mexican and American artwork in the modern world.
Rivera has been such an influential and inspirational artist, and in modern times that is sometimes
hard to come by. I would definitely like to learn more about him and his wonderful artwork in the

In this chapter he talks about the swine flu epidemics of the late seventies and of 2009 serve as an
example of how extrapolation can lead to improper predictions, particularly if you assume that
things will keep proceeding as they have in the recent past. It notes that self fulfilling and self
canceling prophecies complicate the process of determining the future, by altering which directions
the given traits proceed and altering their progress. The efforts to change the progress of certain
events, helping the good and thwarting the bad, mean that many traits change their course from
their initial progress (as when the swine flu outbreaks were stopped shortly after starting). Self
fulfilling predictions can be caused by the sheer act of releasing the prediction. For example, when
news about H1N1 flu is broadcast, more people go to doctors and more H1N1 is identified. Self
cancelling predictions can also occur. Navigation systems show where the least traffic is but
simultaneously invalidate the route by sending all traffic there en masse. Chapter 7 deals with the
dangers of extrapolation and overly simplistic assumptions, using misfiring flu predictions as an
example. Also discussed here are self fulfilling and self cancelling predictions. Often the very act
of prediction can alter the way people behave (an observation that also John Adams makes with
regard to risk a form of prediction, of course

The Importance Of Occupational Injuries In Patient Care
Healthcare works are experiencing injuries from moving and handling patients. Research by the
Bureau of Labor Statistics, shows healthcare workers often experience musculoskeletal disorders
(MSDs) at a rate exceeding that of workers in construction, mining, and manufacturing). Injuries are
becoming a problem due to repeated manual patient handling activities. The patient handling usually
involves heavy manual lifting associated with transferring and repositioning patients. The problem
of lifting patients is compounded by the increasing weight of patients to be lifted due and the
rapidly increasing number of older people who require assistance with the activities of daily living.

Twelve percent of nurse s report that they left the nursing profession because of back pain
(Stubbs, et al., 2007). Since, the United States (US) is facing a nursing shortage predicted to be
30% by 2020, reducing injuries and protecting the health of the healthcare workers should be a
priority for all Health system organizations (HSO). Senior leadership also needs to make sure
they have addressed the epidemic of obese patients. There needs to be a process in place and
equipment available to address the needs of a growing population.
2.How can middle management be convinced that this is an important problem? Middle
management needs to address this problem at a unit level. The same way there are policies,
processes, and protocols to prevent patient falls, there needs to be the same process to prevent staff
injury. They need to keep up with the number of injuries on each unit and have them to display
them on the unit. Management needs to encourage, promote and foster a culture of safety on their
units and throughout the organization. Management should promote transparency when it comes to
reporting unsafe conditions or practices. This allows for open communication and feedback from
staff. They should make sure the unit is safe ergonomically. There also needs to be training for staff
members to educated them about the importance of staff safety, preventing injuries and the use of
lifting equipment. Management could

  • 2. Compulsory Heteronormativity Compulsory Heterosexuality Introduction In today s world, as humankind is still in progress, we have a much more liberated world compared to past. In terms of politics, we learned discrimination is not a honourable case to be involved in and we tried to minimize constraints reflected on other races, other nationalities, in short all of the others that are not similar to us . Us is, without doubt, white, Western man. Despite all the back drawed prejudices of others in the name of liberation, respect and equality, it does not seem to be the situation for non heteronormatives to live in a peaceful environment. Since I came to Amsterdam as an exchange student this term, I had the opportunity to experience daily life with all the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite the fact that compulsory heterosexuality is the central issue of homosexual argument s, there is limited work specifically concentrated on heteronormativity. Majority of the articles are about gay lesbian rights and inequalities in terms of citizenship rights. However, almost every article reflects the normality of homosexuality contradictory to heteronormative theory. All of them lay natural causes and reasons down on the table and accuse heteronormativity of being reproduction obsessed. Paper In this paper, my main argument is to reject the superiority of the normal heterosexual and to equalize the non heterosexual. So here is the question; what is normal? Who defines it? We have evidence that in the past, a long time ago, from the start of the first civilization, sex was a primary issue. Putting aside people s active sexual lives, homosexuality is known to be very common in Sumerians, Ancient Greek and Romans .(Heterosexuality). I do not mean to say that homosexuality was common than heterosexuality but even in story of Gilgamesh the hero is said to be in love with the man he needed to fight with. One other thing claiming the normality of non heterosexualism is the invention of terms . It was only 19th century the term homosexuality was invented, then followed by heterosexuality (Heterosexuality) . Bisexuality came later in 20th century to define people who do not have dominant choices for a sex partner. As it is seen even the terms are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Army Respect What is respect? Respect can be in various forms. It can be knowledge, self awareness, trust, character, honesty, understanding, and a positive attitude. But respect also has to be earned. If you can t respect yourself then you won t be able to respect others. To gain respect you have to treat others the way you would want to be treated. Without respect you can t have team work and care for other peoples well being. It is respect which creates devotion to the team, and the important part is that that respect flows both up and down the chain of command. A leader respects the skills, strengths, and sacrifices of the people who work for him, and by giving that respect, in time and with effort, his troops come to respect him as well. That ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, without loyalty, respect is not present. If you are a disloyal member of the team you fail to contribute to the team in a manner that is respectable. The lack of loyalty is disrespectful and in turn awards you none for yourself. Respect is described as esteem for or a sense of the worth or excellence of a person, a personal quality or ability, or something considered as a manifestation of a personal quality or ability. In the United States Army it is inaccurate to say you are required to respect the man or woman behind the rank. The greater rank does not imply a greater human being. However, It would be quite accurate to say that in the mechanics of the relationship between a lower enlisted soldier and a Non commissioned Officer regardless of the enlisted soldiers opinion of the person the lower enlisted service member will respect the rank and treat the Non commissioned officer with the same respect that is due to the rank worn. This hierarchical design is intended to maintain an order based on qualification and experience. It states in the Phantom Warrior Standard book that every soldier obtains upon arrival to Fort Hood that, Courtesy among members of the Armed Forces is vital to maintain military discipline. Respect to seniors will be extended at all times. I realize now ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. How Change Is Important For The Success Of Managing Change Change plays a vital role in the world of business. It is also an aspect that cannot be stopped, it can only be managed or led, no matter how much businesses try change is inevitable. Therefore, it is the job of the company to be able to quickly adapt when change hits. There are many aspects which can contribute to the need for change, both internal and external. Change managementcan be regarded as managers applying their existing knowledge base in a systematic manner to problems requiring technical solutions, with minimal inputs from other quarters ... in a static and isolated environment (Paton and McCalaman, 2000, p.21). This framework can help to identify areas which need to be changed, to improve performance. For instance, under the superordinate goals element are the mission, vision, goals and objectives (Johnson et al., 2014). If this element is different to what is desired by the company, then change is required. In addition, if members of staff are underperforming, then it can be identified that a change is necessary. Therefore, it can identify internal triggers which may bring about the need for change, such as: New senior management or chief executive Poor performance of staff Loss of profit New missions, visions, goals and objectives High employee turnover Low morale of staff The use of new technology The relocation of factory, staff, resources, etc. Merger, Acquisition, Takeover or Divestment Shortages or surpluses of labour (Huczynski and Buchanan, 2013; Johnson et al., 2014; Paton and McCalman, 2000) In addition, the 7s can be split into hard and soft factors. Hard factors, such as: strategy, structure and systems, are easily identifiable, limited problems in which solutions are more feasible (Paton and McCalaman, 2000). • 6. Totalitarian Methods Of Domination Arendt explained that totalitarian methods of domination are uniquely suited to programmes of mass extermination such as the massacring of Jewish citizens in Germany by the Nazis (Arendt, 1979, p. 440). However, Anthony Court expands on Arendt s theory of totalitarianism by stating that previous regimes of terror, does not simply aim to extinguish physical life but rather total terror is preceded by the obliteration of civil and political rights as well as exclusion from the public sphere, the confiscation of property and lastly the deportation and murder of entire extended families and their surrounding communities (Court, 2008, p. 102). This definition is clearly seen throughout history whether it be associated with World War II, Stalinism, ISIS, Al Qaeda or the frequent riots occurring in western societies such as the Oakland 2009 riots, London 2011 riots or the Ferguson 2014/15 riots with each riot strongly associated with racial tension and unrest. Each of these events have different levels of totalitarianismbut show that society does not learn from past events. Arendt explains that totalitarianism is formed when governments have emerged as a result of the institutionalisation of terror and violence (D Entreves, 2014). However since Stalinism and Nazism there has not been a period of time where terror or violence has been extinguished, whether it be state racism, nationalism or terrorism global society has not transitioned away from totalitarianism. Most of what a person needed to know they learned at home. Boys learned to farm, build, and hunt while girls learned how to garden, care for the family, sew and cook. The spread of Enlightenment ideals was the primary cause of the first Great Awakening and it further intensified conflicts between eighteenth century colonial citizens (Davidson, J., 2006). The conflict between superpowers for control of the continent began the Seven Years War. Some put the beginning of the Seven Years War in 1754, but it actually occurred from 1756 to 1763. In the Seven Years War, France and Great Britain struggled to control eastern North America(Davidson, J., 2006) The area between the Mississippi River and the Appalachian mountain range was contested as both nations claimed it. When the British won the Seven Years War, their colonial holdings doubled in size and they gained control of North America. Conflicts over trading rights and the control of the Ohio country was the primary cause of the French and Indian War (Davidson, J., 2006). British control of North American and the Seven Years War led to many problems as the British struggled to maintain their supremacy. The French came out behind in each of these struggles. They lost their position as highest colonial power for the next generation their position would not be restored until the French Revolution of the 1790 s. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, crime rates in the 1980 s was comparatively lower than the recent years. The arrest rate may have lowered, but this could mean that children are becoming more efficient criminals. Which is why we need to reinforce the juvenile justice system. A quote from Hanna Chiou further fortifies this statement. ...if our justice system uses mental incompetency as the reason juveniles have their own separate and more lenient court, why aren t 40 year olds with the mind of a 10 year old prosecuted in the juvenile justice system... I would like to tell you that studying abroad as an international student is very challenging event in our lives. But, once we accomplish our challenges, we have a bunch of chances to have a better job. So let me talk about my five challenges while staying here in the Philippines. The first challenge I was dealing with was of course the weather. Since Philippines is hot all the time, I really had to deal with the hotness. I was sweating every single time, but now I got used to this weather. I think the best way to adapt to the weather is to increase our fluid intake with water or sports drinks. Staying hydrated is extremely important when staying in hot weather. The second challenge was adapting to the people. People in the Philippines are kind of friendly. Wherever I go, people are trying to talk to me even if I don t know them. Maybe since I am a foreigner, they are kind of interested on me, but I felt uncomfortable at first, because people in Korea actually don t talk to the strangers that much. • 11. Analysis Of Andy Warhol s Pop-Art Art is one of the few things in the world that has a different criterion for everyone. Some prefer to judge the techniques and details within each piece, but some would rather judge the perplexity of the meaning behind each symbolism within an artwork. However, not all are divided by this fine line. Hap from The Soul of Capitalism would be a part of the third group of people, the ones that appreciate complicated techniques while looking behind the canvas to appreciate the meaning of an artwork. Comparatively, the Canadians from When Canada Met Andy had the same perspective as Hap. Although Hap will not favour or properly interpret Andy Warhols Pop Art , he will be able to appreciate the work that Warhol put into his art. As we begin The Soul of Capitalism , it reveals that Hap and her wife are art lovers in a traditional way. (1) Yet, Warhol s Small Torn Campbell s Soup Can (figure 2) is leagues away from traditional. Hap concerns himself with landscapes and seascapes, and the portraits and battle scenes (19), pieces that involve many complications and exhaustive details. Unlike Warhol s box sculpture of a Del Monte carton which lacks the sophistication that traditional art offers. Axel is able to draw out this conclusion, and for that reason he gives them a detailed drawing of a corn head (4) rather than one of his more abstract and modern works. • 12. Dillard Reflection The moth shook its sodden clumps of wing (Dillard 160). A quote as powerful as this one captures the depth of Dillard s views, which have a crippling effect on her outlook towards life. Dillard s environment is similar to that of the moth s, a limited amount of space to grow and prosper. Growth is a factor Dillard sees as extremely important in life, as she tries to learn a vast amount of information. Dillard has experiences in her memoir that mold who she is and what she has become. In many ways, I too reflect on similar experiences that mold who I am and what I have become overtime. Dillard and I experience a crippling environment and a pursuit to try and learn everything. As a child, Dillard is aware of her own open mindedness and perceptive abilities. A special memory that sticks out to her most is when she sees a Polyphemus moth crippled by a glass jar too small. Dillard compares this moth in a crippling environment to her own life in Pittsburgh, which is far too small. Pittsburgh is unable to hold the dreams that Dillard has. Normal dreams of girls of wealth in Pittsburgh are marrying the elite boys, who will go on to run the big companies in Pittsburgh. These big company boys do not interest Dillard, she has a dream to explore and use her knowledge for something bigger. A moment like this is a crucial turning point in Dillard s life because it represents an image for her to look at. This moth, described as a deformed creature, is impactful because the moth walks ... It shows the pride, determination and love of the Corps and our country that Krulak felt. 6a. With the Marine Corps already struggling to stay atop its game, it didn t shed positive light on the situations. With that said, it s hard to point out the flaws of the Corps without also showing its achievements and how we can overcome any obstacle we are faced with. 7a. As Michelangelo built upon the brilliance of his predecessors, Anne Sexton does the same in her collection of poems entitled Transformations. She renovated fairy tales as told by the Brothers Grimm by adding her own life experiences and view of contemporary culture, hammering away until she built an entirely new art form. Anne Sexton has had a notable effect upon the literary genre of fairy tales through this shocking transformation of classic tales. The book was well received and marked the beginning of her rise to the top. 1967 another major year in Sexton s career; she won the Pulitzer Prize for Live or Die. Transformations, her book of poetic fairy tales, was published later in 1971. On October 4, 1974, shortly after the release of Transformations, Anne could no longer stand the pressures of her existence and committed suicide. This biographical information is essential to understanding Anne Sexton s influence on the fairy tale because her transformations of the Grimm Brother s work rises out of her personal turmoil. Most of Sexton s works before and after Transformations are of the confessional style, but through her poetic transformations of fairy tales, Sexton gives herself a more discrete outlet for her passions (Ostriker 255). Her biographer Diane Middlebrook notes that the poems were a way to place her struggles in legend rather than personal history (37). The intensely metaphorical characters of Sexton s fairy poetry are one example of this. For instance, Judith the cold and neglectful mother in Snow White surely represents Sexton s own callous mother (Middlebrook 37). Sexton s father is also recognizable in her work as ... (Hall, pg. 88) The famous last words is a clear indication of the doomed future of Rob Hall, but it also shows how courageous he was throughout the whole expedition. In Into Thin Air , by Jon Krakauer, Rob Hall demonstrates time and time again his courage by showing nothing but confidence in getting his clients to the summit, by waiting for Doug Hansen at the summit, and by how long he actually stayed up on the mountain. First, Rob Hall shows courage by being confident in his ability to get his clients up the mountain. With so many incompetent people on the mountain, Rob said with a frown one evening in late April, I think it s pretty unlikely that we ll get through this season without something bad happening up high. This might have convinced the climbers that they were safe as long as they were guided by Rob Hall. When he showed that confidence, it assures the climbers that they are in the best hands possible. His stunning record of getting people to summit was probably directly related to the way he thought of his climbingskills. • 19. The Chrysalids Character Analysis We don t have to engage in grand, heroic actions to participate in the process of change. Small acts, when multiplied by millions of people, can change the world (Hord Zinn). David is a telepathic boy living in a post apocalyptic nuclear wasteland, called the Tribulation in the book The Chrysalids. David manages to change the world and the vision of mutation and deviants. David would have never able to do that without the people around that changed him. This Essay will explore how Sophie, Uncle Axel and Gordon though minor characters have a major impact on David s development. Throughout the book Sophie had an exponential effect on David development even when not present. Firstly, when David meets meets Sophie and learns about Sophie s supplementary toe, David accepts Sophie for who she is. It was all twisted and puffy I didn t even notice then that it had more than the usual amount of toes... (Wyndham 9). This is critical to David s development as it influenced him to ignore the rules of the uneducated town of Waknuk. Secondly, when Sophie is a suspected deviant David helps her run away to the fringes evading the law. I managed to find some candles and light them, and when I had blown up the fire and put some more on, that helped to make the place seem less lonely. (49). In this quote David is trying to make the house seem occupied so the people of Waknuk do not get suspicious. This is imperative as for the first time in his life David rebelled against the rules ... • 20. Nosferatu And Dracula In The 1920 s Dracula The world of copyright was just as convoluted in the 1920 s as it is in our world today. The film studio Prana Film, which produced the 1922 German Expressionist film Nosferatu, was sued for copyright infringement by the estate of Bram Stoker, the author of the 1897 Gothic Horror novel Dracula, and ended up filing for bankruptcy after only distributing one film. While this may seem like an immense failure for the studio behind the silent film, it ended up influencing almost a century of vampires, in novels, television, and other films, and made the name Nosferatu synonymous with the equally influential novel that it was based upon. On the surface, Nosferatu is a blatant copy of Dracula, from it s plot, to the characters (besides the change in names), to the portrayal of vampires in general; in reality, many aspects of both bodies of work differ immensely from one another, providing both Stoker and director F. W. Murnau pieces that have influenced generations of vampiremedia. The structure, characterization and overall tone of Nosferatu is developed differently than Dracula in order to differentiate itself from it s source material and provide an alternate adaptation of an iconic tale. Rather than illustrate the story epistolarily like Dracula, Murnau chooses to utilize a limited point of view in Nosferatu in order to provide more suspense and uneasiness for the viewer. While some forms of letters are present, much of the film is shown through a limited third person ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Structure And Form In Sophocles Antigone Tragedy , then is an imitation of an action that is serious, complete, and of a certain magnitude; in language embellished with each kind of artistic ornament, the several kinds being found in separate parts of the play; in the form of action, not of narrative; through pity and fear effecting the proper purgation of these emotions (Aristotle VI). When one reads a tragedy, a series of emotions are conducted throughout ones body and those emotions are the connection between literature and art. If one were to look at a group of seemingly meaningless words manifested on a piece of paper it would give the thought of confusion, but when the words are naturally streamed together the sense of unity embraces a beautiful arrangement of parts. The necessity of structure and form in literature and art are necessary for the success of the work. A piece of fabric will never become a beautiful dress without the outline therefore, the structure and form give the literature and art a place to grow and flourish. The needed structure and form allows the focal point of the piece to be listened to. In Antigone, Sophoclesexercises the soul of a tragedy (Aristotle IV), plot, by seductively piecing events in an appealing way, chronologically. It seemed almost as if when we got older, we started becoming more clever in choosing the words that would bring us to the point where we were peeing our pants. From preschool to the end of elementary school my sister and I would always find something, be it a phrase, word, or just a very strange idea that made us giggle until our mom started laughing at the mere sight of us rolling on the floor in tears. These words cycled at a rate of a new word about every month. One of the first words evoking laughter was pickle . It was a simple word, but at that point it was enough to make us giggle. Don t ask me why, but five year old me got a kick out of the word. I would get off the bus from a long, three hours of half day kindergarten at Evamere Elementary School, my PokГ©mon cards in hand, and as always, saw my sister waiting for me as I approached the house through the garage. • 30. Argumentative Essay On Designer Babies Imagine a world where having a baby was like looking through a menu at some fancy restaurant. Imagine being able to choose how a baby will look and act. As mind boggling as it sounds, scientists and researchers came across an unbelievable discovery: it is possible to design and edit a baby however a person may like. Hanson asserts that personality, gender, appearance, intelligence, hair color, and height can be changed using technology that was originally used for animals (Hanson). These babies are called designer babies. Phillip Ball, a science writer, claims that it is possible to change the genetic makeup of an unborn baby using bio technology. However, these changes can have more negative effects than positive. Although most countries have not legislated the use of genetic modification, studies have been done on human embryos in China (Ball). According to The Ethics of Designer Babies article, a process called in vito fertilization must be done before any genetic changes can be made. In this process, the mother s mature eggs are retrieved from the ovaries and taken to a lab to be combined with sperm outside of the body. They are fertilized in a petri dish. This is the reason why they are sometimes referred to as test tube babies. After fertilization, the embryo is sent back into the mother s uterus and a third parent comes into play. The third parent, or the donor, has his or her mitochondrial DNAinserted into the embryo, a process known as cytoplasmic transfer. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this chapter he talks about the swine flu epidemics of the late seventies and of 2009 serve as an example of how extrapolation can lead to improper predictions, particularly if you assume that things will keep proceeding as they have in the recent past. It notes that self fulfilling and self canceling prophecies complicate the process of determining the future, by altering which directions the given traits proceed and altering their progress. The efforts to change the progress of certain events, helping the good and thwarting the bad, mean that many traits change their course from their initial progress (as when the swine flu outbreaks were stopped shortly after starting). Self fulfilling predictions can be caused by the sheer act of releasing the prediction. For example, when news about H1N1 flu is broadcast, more people go to doctors and more H1N1 is identified. Self cancelling predictions can also occur. Navigation systems show where the least traffic is but simultaneously invalidate the route by sending all traffic there en masse. Chapter 7 deals with the dangers of extrapolation and overly simplistic assumptions, using misfiring flu predictions as an example. Also discussed here are self fulfilling and self cancelling predictions.
