Theranos And Discolmes And The Entrepreneurial Types Of...
The entrepreneurial types that best describes Elisabeth Holmes is an innovator and social

Tudor Hardship
Throughout British history, especially between the time periods 1485 1603, obtaining the status
of a knight and furthermore, being bestowed knightship, was a great deal of honor. Henry VII
was King of England and Lord of Ireland from his seizing of the crown on August 22 1485 until
his coincidental death on the 21 of April 1509, as the first monarch of the House of Tudor. The
Tudor dynasty was a European house from 1485 until 1603. While knights displayed many positive
attributes, they also faced many hardships being a knight. Hardships are more commonly known as
tests. Tests were effectively used to evaluate a knight s loyalty to there king. A chivalrous knight

thereof shall never come good, but only harm and loss. (P. 182) When he reports back to the
king, the king asks, What saw thou there. (P.182) Gawain replies, I saw nothing but wind and
waves. King Arthur was unimpressed and cast great doubt upon Gawain. ah traitor unto me
untrue, now thou hast betrayed me twice, when you have weened that thou has been to me so
loved and dear, would betray me for the riches of the sword. (P. 182) This shows Sir Gawain had
some loyalty in the king, however, he displayed greed over a worldly possession. Furthermore,
Gawain directly lies to the king by saying he saw nothing but wind and waves. Thus, preventing
the king to question Gawain s loyalty because the king had felt he was betrayed. Sir Gawain
exhibits a lack of loyalty and dishonesty, therefore causing the king to no longer trust him. Tests
are a method of evaluating how well you performed in a specific field. Tests provide a clear
insight as to how well a knight performs. For a knight, tests depict how loyal and trustworthy he
is to his lord or king. There are a few examples of knights that display both loyalty and dishonor.
One example of dishonor comes from Morte d Arthur. Sir Bedivere is instructed by King Arthur to

CIPCA Pets
The majority of children at CIPCC are able to fully participate in the program without requiring
modifications. However, there are many alterations and modifications which we make to the Kiddie
CATS program, to the environment and to the materials, to allow the program to run smoothly and
create an atmosphere where children are able to participate, regardless of their ability. Certain
children require additional support and accommodations, nevertheless, I can still see enjoyment and
benefits from their participationin the program. The majority of the modifications that are listed in
the manual are not used to address the modifications needed by specific individuals, but to increase
efficacy and safety. We play a lot of games that use the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While we are playing games that have the teachers as one role and the students as another, we
often invite children to participate by allowing them to hold a teacher s hand and take on the
teacher s role. This can work, but sometimes is difficult and causes other problem. To address
this, we could modify our approach to supplying support to these children. Instead of letting them
take on the role of the teacher, we could allow the individuals in need of support to show a
teacher how to take on the role of the student. The teacher could then, support the child and the
child could still participate with their peers and continue the program. The children at CIPCC
really like to interact and communicate with the teachers and the UVM students from the Fit Kids
program. I think that the most influential ways to modify the games in this program will be to
find unique alterations to address the individual needs of the children who could likely benefit
from Kiddie CATs the most. I will continue to be thinking of modifications to allow this program
to be more accessible and enjoyable to all children

The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising Essay
Like sheep led to the slaughter; this is one of the most famous analogies used to refer to the Jews
during the holocaust. The Jews were being systematically murdered, beaten, and abused day after
day, and there was almost no refusal on their part. Almost no one fought back. This however was
not the case in the Warsaw ghetto. Throughout the summer of 1942, nearly 300,000 Jews were
deported from the Warsaw ghetto to the Treblinka death camp. During this summer, a resistance
organization known as the Z.O.B. was formed. It was headed by the 23 year old Mordecai
Anielewicz, and was comprised primarily of young men. The deportations halted in September, and
the Z.O.B. began collecting whatever weapons they could manage to smuggle into the... Show more

The Jews were able to keep up the resistance for about a month, but the fight was officially ended
on May 16 with the destruction of Warsaw s great synagogue (ushmm.org). About 7,000 Jews
were killed during the uprising, and another 7,000 deported, but a few hundred German soldiers
fell as well (history.com). Preparing for the resistance brought up both feelings of terror, and
excitement over the fact that the Nazis would not be able to get away with at least one of their
plans so easily. Zivia Lubetkin, who was a resistance fighter in the ghetto, describes the feeling
of the resistance organization on the 18th of April after getting the news of the final roundup
that was to take place the next day. She says [e]ven though we were prepared, and had even
prayed for this hour, we turned pale. A tremor of joy mixed with a shudder of fear passed
through all of us. But we suppressed our emotions and reached for our guns (Gilbert 557).
Resistance was a new idea to the Jews. Since the Nazis had taken over, the Jews had found
themselves in a rather helpless situation. There was almost no way to escape the ghettos, and those
who did manage to make it out knew they were costing the Jews they had left behind. This was the
first real attempt at an actual organized armed resistance. Lubetkin tells how the Germans were
determined, especially after being forced to retreat in January, but so were the Jews. Determination
was certainly something

Core Principles Of Chiropractic Care
What is chiropractic care? If you asked this question to hundreds of people, only a few dozen
would know what it really is. Most think of it as a doctor that only addresses back and neck pains
and nothing else. Chiropractic care is so much more than that; it s an alternative to modern day
medicine for many different pains and diseases. Chiropracticcare has been around for much longer
than most people realize. Unlike modern medicinewhich has been evolving and changing for the
past hundred or so years chiropractic care has relatively remained the same for thousands of years.
Chiropractic care has been used for an extensive period of time, Chiropractic types of treatment

Thus chiropractic care has various social, economic, political and aesthetic benefits.
Chiropractic care benefits people s social lives in more ways than most seem to realize. The affects
can be massive, like allowing you to go on more vacation you previously couldn t because of pain,
or in little ways, like allowing our older generation to be more active with their friends and
family. In a person s everyday life, pain can be a deterrent to doing many everyday activities.
People with back and neck problems can t participate with family, friends, or their community
when being active causes them great pain. Once fun times become a distant memory with the
present filled with caution and anticipation for pain. These people take medications and are
referred to surgeries by their doctors to try and improve their everyday life, when in reality all
that medication and surgeries are just masking the problems. What chiropractic care does is
addresses the problem at the source. Though chiropractic care may not fix a person 100%, it
allows the person to do more in their lives with less pain. People can t just focus on the amount of
pain they re in, Instead of focusing on pain, note how much more you can do. Improvement in
activities in daily living is a more valid measure of progress than pain only (Menke,

Explain Why Video Sports Should Be Considered Sports
Should Video Games Be Considered Sports?
As time moves on, things we do physically have slowly made its way to becoming electronic,
such as e mail, and researching papers. Is this also the case for sports? E Sports are electronic
sports, which are video games that are play at a professional level, for games such as StarCraft,
League of Legends, DoTA 2, and etcetera. While the consensus of whether they are sports or not is
mixed, I believe that they are not.
The definition of a sport is an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual
or team competes against another team or other individuals for entertainment. While E Sports cover
the latter half of the definition, it leaves out the physical exertion of real sports. Despite that being
the case, many others consider them sports. They even have their own page on the ESPN website. ...

League of Legends, the world s most popular MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) has two
teams of five playing against each other to destroy their opponent s base. Doing so requires great
communication and knowledge of the game, something that is required in traditional sports as
well. The process to join a professional team for League of Legends is similar to other sports as
well. Sometimes, first, the player has to perform at a certain level to be found by a scout. Then,
they have to try out amongst other players, then compete in a smaller tournament to get a spot in
the big leagues. Other times, some pro teams only require a series of tryouts for the position they
want to play in the game.
While E Sports do meet some of the requirements of being a sport, I believe that instead of being
a sport, they are just competitions. Even though they have the team and skill aspect of a sport,
they still lack the physical exertion of a real sport. Maybe someday video games will reach the
true definition of a sport, but that day is not

The Value Of Experiential Learning
The Value of Experiential Learning Adults seeking to complete their undergraduate or graduate
degrees bring a unique perspective to the college classroom life experiences. For many adult
students life experiences delayed the ability to attend college but valuable learning occurred by
having careers, raising families, and traveling. Schooling in the traditional sense is void of
knowledge unless academic teachings can be experienced and practiced in real life (Carroll,
2015). While not all life experiences can be classified as college level learning, an adult brings a
level of maturity to their studies that are not often seen in the traditional college student. The
value of experiential learning can be quantified not only in the adult learner but also in those that
choose a second career in teaching. The National Center for Educational Statistics reported an
increase of adults enrolling in postsecondary degree programs occurred over a ten year period
from 1980 to 1990. In 1980 students over the age of 25 accounted for 38 percent of the total
enrollment while traditional students made up 62 percent. In 1990 the younger population
enrolling in colleges dropped 6 percent while older students increased 6 percent. This trend has
stayed static through 2015 and remains so through 2026 projections (NCES, 2015). Adults who
reenter the college classroom differ from their traditional student counterparts because adults juggle
multiple life roles. These roles could include

Introduction
The best selling novel, The Time Machine, is written by H.G. Wells. H.G. Wells is also known as
The Father of Science Fiction. Wells has written many books that has influenced our vision of the
future, The Time Machine, being his first and foremost novel. The Time Machine is the story of the
Time Traveler who invents the machine, his adventures while traveling, and his recounting of the
tale to the narrator and friends gathered in his home.
Key Idea 1 The beginning of the book is very intriguing, pulling readers into the book and making
them want to read more. The book begins in the Time Traveler s home, where he and his guests are
having dinner and discussing his theories about time and time travel. When the Time Traveler tells
the guests he can actually do it, they are skeptical. The Time Traveler s colleagues bombard him
with protestations and thought provoking questions. This part of the book makes the reader wonder
what the outcome of time traveling might be but it is obvious that the Time Traveler
wholeheartedly believes in time travel.
Key Idea 2 In a moment my hand was on the lever and I had placed a month between myself and
these monsters. What a classic, wonderfully imaginative science fiction sentence. The story is
completely and utterly engrossing. The fact that the book was published in 1895 and science
lovers can still love and appreciate this book and H.G. Wells

Is Hemophilia A Possible Cause Of Unexpected Bleeding...
Introduction
Hemophilia is a possible cause of unexpected bleeding during surgery. This paper will discuss
important topics related to hemophilia, including pathology, risk factors, signs and symptoms, and
treatment.
Anatomy and Physiology of Hemostasis
Hemostasis is the process whereby blood coagulates at the site of an injury to a blood vessel.
Cellular components involved in hemostasis include platelets, endothelial cells of blood vessels,
tissue factor bearing cells, and coagulation factors (Davoren Wang, 2014). Coagulation factors are
specialized plasma proteins that circulate in the bloodstream in inactive forms. Most coagulation
factors are activated by enzymes that catalyze their conversion to active forms. The active forms
then contribute to hemostasis. Factors VIII (FVIII) and IX (FIX) are the factors involved in the
most common forms of hemophilia. The coagulation cascade has many steps and reciprocal
interactions; however, FVIII and FIX are most involved with the following steps:
Injured blood vessel cells release tissue factor (TF), which activates factor VII.
Activated factor VII (FVIIa) and TF bind together to form complex TF VIIa.
Complex TF VIIa activates FIX and X.
Activated factor X converts prothrombin to thrombin.
Thrombin activates factors VIII, V, and XI.
Activated FVIII and FIX also convert prothrombin to thrombin (Davoren Wang, 2014).
There are other coagulation factors, enzymes, and steps involved in the coagulation cascade. As

Hebrew Wisdom on Diligence and Laziness There is a great deal of Hebrew wisdom in the Bible in
regards to the subjects of diligence and laziness. Throughout the book of Proverbs the words of lazy
and diligence can be found in many different forms. Sluggish, sluggard, and idle describe laziness.
The word diligence can also be considered as, thorough, attentive, and persistence. Each of these
words, found in the Bible, can reference diligence, and laziness within Hebrew Wisdom in many
cases.

A true witness delivers souls, but a deceitful witness speaks lies (Proverbs 14:24 25). Being a
diligent man does not mean to hoard what the Lord has given you, but to share the knowledge and
wisdom of God with all he comes in contact with. Do not answer a fool according to his folly,
lest you also be like him (Proverbs 26:4). This is a warning to those who walk with the Lord in
their hearts. Do not answer a fool in a foolish manner; answer them with the wisdom that God has
given you. Share the wisdom of God so they might change their ways.
The Bible paints us the picture of being diligent as one of being thorough, persistent and works
hard. They keep the ways of the Lord in their heart. Those of folly lack the sense to know the
difference in what they are doing is not the ways of the Lord. As for those that are speaking of as
lazy, they are lost and doomed to a life of strife, hardship, and ultimately final judgment to the fiery
depths. Only the wisdom of a diligent man can help save those of folly and lazy, and guide them
toward God.

A brief history of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) consists of civil war and corruption.
In 1960 they achieved Independence, which was followed up by a civil war and a temporary
fragmentation of the country. In 1965 Mobutu Sese Seko seized power. Then in 1997 rebels ousted
Mobutu and Laurent Kabila becomes president. From 1997 until 2003 there was another civil war,
pulling in several surrounding countries (Africas first world war). From 2003 to 2016 conflict
persisted in the east, where there are still armed groups. In 2006 the first free election in four

Recently released displacement figures bring the total number of internally displaced people
(IDPs) to 3.9 million (Neuzd). The provinces and regions with the largest numbers of IDPs
include North Kivu with more than a million, Greater Kasai with 762,000, Tanganyika with
584,000 and South Kivu with 545,000 (UNHCR). The UN Refugee Agency has warned that
more displacement is probable in these regions. The World Food Programme and the UN Food
and Agriculture Organization estimate that 7.7 million people are food insecure (Staff). Farmers
in Kasai have missed two consecutive planting seasons because of the violence, which broke out
last August with the killing of a regional tribal leader who had defied the government of President
Kabila. The violence adds to an already unstable situation in the DRC. The region now accounts for
more than 40% of the DRC s food insecure population (Staff).
The country is also in the midst of a cholera outbreak affecting 20 of its 26 provinces (Gayer).
Outbreaks and epidemics are more likely in unsanitary conditions, low income countries, and
displaced populations are especially at risk. The country has been in conflict for the majority of 20
years, but evidence shows that the situation for the most vulnerable people has deteriorated severely
in recent years and is on track to worsen. This population is under immunized either due to conflict
and/or geographical remoteness. Risks are compounded

Literary Analysis Of The Cat In The Hat
The Cat In The Hat: A Story of Chaos and Order
The Cat In The Hat by Dr. Seuss, pseudonym of Theodor Seuss Geisel, tells a story of two
children at home on a rainy day alone, being visited by the Cat in the Hat and the turmoil that he
causes. The Cat In The Hat is clearly Geisel s most famous book, written in 1956 and published in
1957, considered a children s classic today. It was The Cat In The Hat where Dr. Seuss jubilantly
breaks the barriers of the basal reader s simplistic language and pedestrian artwork (MacDonald
10). In The Cat In The Hat, Geisel uses this childish language and comical pictures as well as an
interesting story and fun characters to not only create a successful children s book but to deliver a
subtle political message of rebellion against authority.
The simplicity of the vocabulary and the sentence structure in The Cat In The Hat makes it easy
for almost anyone to read and enjoy. In fact, many children learn to read today studying Dr.
Seuss books. Virginia M. Reid, author of the article by the National Council of Teachers of
English titled Weaning Books, refers to The Cat In The Hat as a baby food type of book for
young children (8). It is these books that can get children excited about reading. Geisel uses
repetition, poetic meter and rhyme to make the story flow, encouraging the reader to read it out
loud. For example when the Cat In The Hat appears at the beginning of the story, he says I know
it is wet, And the sun is not sunny. But we can have Lots of good fun that is funny! (Seuss 7). The
words are simple and lively, immediately getting your attention. The use of the exclamation mark at
the end of the sentence also cannot be a mistake. Geisel uses punctuation throughout the book for
emphasis and amusement. The Cat in the Hat asks the children, Why do you sit there like that?
almost mimicking what the reader is thinking (Seuss 6). Geisel has even gone so far to create a
rhythm as one reads the story like poetry. It is this simple language that gives The Cat In The Hat
its pleasure to the reader that runs parallel but separate to its entertaining illustrations.
The pictures of The Cat In The Hat are very similar to its language, repetitive and

Reducing Acute Hospital Readmissions Through Telehealth...
Reducing Acute Hospital Readmissions through Telehealth Technology
The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate that utility of telehealth technology (THT) has the ability
to improve patients health and reduce costly hospital readmissions for those living with chronic
diseases in the United States (US). Nationally, most of our healthcare expenditures are allocated to
caring for patients with chronic conditions. Bunnell et al. (2012) suggested that it cost the US more
than 2.5 trillion dollars to manage and treat chronic disorders. Because of less than optimal
management of chronic diseases in the outpatient setting, these patients are frequently readmitted to
the hospital.

Else, complications can lead to numerous readmissions and longer length of stays.
Impact of Issue on Quality of Life and Financial Systems
The current workflow my unit employs to educate patients regarding their chronic condition is
inadequate. Because of busy patient assignments, I usually have very little opportunity to ensure
that patients thoroughly comprehend their care needs. Essentially, we use what is referred to as
teach back. This entails the nurse teaching the patient about proper management of his or her health
condition. Once the educational session is complete, nurses ask patients to explain to them what
they have learned. Perhaps this method of teaching might be effective if I had time to perform the
actual teaching; however, I have very little opportunity to do so and there are no signs that this
dilemma will change anytime soon. Instead of spending adequate time with patients and providing
a thorough educational experience, I am inundated with unskilled tasks. Therefore, my patients
leave the hospital with very little understanding of their treatment regimen. Moreover, many of
these patients are readmitted to my unit within 30 days. Consequently, hospitals are penalized by
third party payers when this occurs (See Appendices A).
My unit is already dealing with some very challenging financial issues due to reduced
reimbursements from third party payers. Regrettably, hospitals with patients readmitted within 30
days of a recent

German encrypted code. There were 10,000 people that were a part of the Bletchley Park
operation. In 1939 GC CS (name of Cipher School) and Alan Turing created the Bombe to
determine the German s daily rotor settings. This is the most well known way of breaking code,
but this was not the only way to break code during World War II. German s had increasingly
capable versions of Lorenz Cipher machine. The German s also had code breaking success with
the B Dienst that broke British naval code that helped them to pinpoint Allied convoys during
the beginning of the Battle of The Atlantic German s also broke US code during Operation

ways of breaking code, and one was called Purple named by the allies. The United States
employed American Indian code talkers to thwart enemy cryptanalysts from breaking intercepted

The Philippines Of Martial Law In The Philippines
Ferdinand Marcos declared Martial Law in the Philippines in 1972. The implementation allowed the
military to have the highest authority in the country along with the President and allowed
thousands of Filipino s rights to be abused. It ended after 21 years when Marcos finally was ousted
out of office. Bangsa Moro refers to the 13 ethno linguistic Muslim tribes in the Philippines. They
composed 1/4th of the population in Mindanao. Though each tribe differs in traditions, culture, and
dialects, they all share the same religion of Islam. The Moro People are divided in three main
groups which are the Maguindanaons, the Tausogs and the Maranaos. Each group and tribe
commonly face the struggle for self determination. Starting from the Spanish colonization, as
Christianization spread through the country, Islamic advancement completely stopped and
prejudices against Muslims began in the Philippines. During the American colonization, they
declared the entire country as independent while annexing Mindanao. These showcase that since
the beginning of Philippine history, the Moro people have been oppressed by the different ruling
bodies of the nation. The implementation of Martial Law in 1972 worsened the situation when the
military attacked Mindanao which sparked the war between the Muslim rebels and the
government. Now many Moro people are bombed out of their homes due to the current
proclamation of Martial Law in Mindanao. In the early 70s, several massacres

Citizens Carry Concealed Weapons Essay
Citizens Carry Concealed Weapons
In our society carrying concealed weapons seem to be a major issue. Authorities should allow
anyone to carrying weapons after they pass a background check and complete training classes.
In his essay Letting Teachers Pack Guns will make America s School Safer Lott, argues that
citizens have the right to protect themselves. I agree with him because accepting this law people
can defend themselves from criminals before police arrive. Also legalizing hidden weapons will
help to decrease violence in the streets and citizens can stop any dangerous incident from
escalating. In the United State s violence is increasing day by day and many horrible crimes
occurring daily and I am sure that someone who is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many people feel afraid to go on the streets, not matters the time criminals are looking for their
victims. I know a man that was killed when the robber was trying to take his car and it was just at
3:00p.m. If this victim were carrying a gun he would probably defend himself. I strongly support
carrying concealed weapons will help to drop violence in our streets. Citizens who have the permit
to carrying concealed weapons will help to stop any incident from escalating. For example, I
remember one incident last year when I was working in a supermarket, where someone enter and
tried to assault us at 8:00p.m. There were 20 people including three children in the supermarket
when suddenly this man with a gun was arguing about getting money. He shot my boss and he
almost harmed other person when finally someone killed him. This person saved many people
including myself. This person has the permit to carry guns. I am very grateful to him. He stopped
that criminal from harming more people that night. According to Lott, for multiple victim shootings
the biggest factor determining the amount of harm in the length of time between when an attack
starts and when someone with a gun can stop the attack, the longer the delay, the more are harmed .

Video Games Have Come A Long Way
Video games have come a long way since Pac Man hit arcades in 1980. In the last thirty plus
years, we have seen video games revolutionize art and entertainment. At first riding the coattails
of computer advancements, video games now drive technological progress in the search for
innovation and complete player immersion. Video games have started to go beyond the quest for
the best graphics. Games like Pokemon Go are pushing the bar and blurring the line between the
game and real life through augmented reality. Video games now give many people motivation in
life and allow for more human interaction in both the real and virtual world. In many ways, video
games are the human attempt to succeed where evolution has failed us. Evolution has equipped
humans with the ability to survive, but survival means something completely different nowadays.
We no longer need to hunt with our hands, hide away from predators, or scavenge for food. Our
landscape has changed from the wilds to the shopping mall. When the modern human faces the
situation of how do I speak to someone I find attractive? or delivery, dine in, or take out? As silly
as it may sound, these simple, specific examples are the type of problems that have replaced
predators and famine what mechanisms have humans gained from evolution to face these
problems? This is where technology and the future of video games come into play. To face the
modern world, humans will redefine what it means to be entertained, interact with

Acting With Integrity And Fairness Essay
Professional Growth Plan #3 Final Reflective Essay
Acting with Integrity and Fairness and in Ethical Manner ELCC (Educational Leadership
Constituent Council) Standard 5 defines and describes Acting with Integrity and Fairness and in
Ethical Manner as A school administrator is an educational leader who promotes the success of all
students and staff by acting with integrity and fairness and in an ethical manner . The administrator
treats people fairly, equitably, and with dignity and respect. The leader protects the rights and
confidentiality of the students and staff. The educational leader also demonstrates appreciation for
sensitivity to diversity. With the help of the school supervisor, I have developed two goals for this
project, and they are: 1.The student intern will learn about the due process procedures for student
discipline, and 2.The student intern will review the current administration of student discipline and
attendance policies.
Administrators come across situations every day that demand due process. As an instructional
leader, the principal should treat everyone fairly and procedurally. I have examined the laws of
Due Process and their application at Palmetto School. This project benefitted me in learning about
the due process procedures for student discipline and create a guide to assist the staff in
understanding due process. As part of my evaluation, I have interviewed the assistant principal,

The Catcher in the Rye as a Coming-of-Age Story Essay
The Catcher in the Rye can be read as a coming of age story. How does Holden s Character
change or mature during the course of the novel? To what extent are there TWO Holden
Caulfields in the book, and what is the difference between them? The novel The Catcher in the
Rye by J.D Salinger is a coming of age story. It follows the short tale of Holden Caulfield, a
sixteen year old boy, who throughout his experiences in the novel, changes and becomes more
mature and independent. The story essentially has two Holden Caulfields, the one telling the story,
and the one that the story is being told about. This essay will look at the differences and
similarities between the two Holden s . It is obvious that the Holden Caulfield who is in the... Show

The self narration of Holden s life is what gives the reader an insight into the way he thinks and
feels. It helps you understand why Holden is the way he is. Without this explanation from him,
you wouldn t empathise with him, or like him very much at all. It s the little stories he tells, like
the story about Allies baseball mitt, ...Allie had this left handed fielders mitt... he had poems
written all over the fingers and the pocket and everywhere. In green ink. (Salinger, 1945 6, p.33)
or about how he knows Jane Gallagher, You were never even worried, with Jane, whether your
hand was sweaty or not. All you knew was, you were happy. You really were (Salinger, 1945 6,
p.72) that make you see the softer side to him. Holden s connection with his little brother Allie
was very special to him. This is evident in the way he talks about Allie. He holds Allie up to
these great expectations, saying You d have liked him (Salinger, 1945 6, p.33) and convincing you
how great he was and how intelligent and special he was. You are now able to connect and
sympathise for Holden, because he has told you all about the things that mean most to him, and you
can t help but feel a little sorry for him. Although there are essentially two Holdens, there are still
traits that remain the same. Throughout the story, Holden feels the need to explain and justify

The vessel fired when the German submarine, U 652, had mistaken the American warship to be
responsible for a depth charge from a British bomber s alert, and aimed torpedoes at the USS Greer.
Through this event, this created immense tension between the United States and Germany, and was
the very beginning of World War II. Franklin D. Roosevelt had very much to say about this
situation, when he secretly called for the United States Navy to be ready to fight if any country
decided to engage in war actions with America. Why was this decision so secret? In a
conference on September 11, 1941, Roosevelt told American people the blunt truth, that the
Germans had all intentions to sink the American ship. From this attack came Roosevelt s shoot

56 percent of the American people agree with him. In my opinion, I would agree, as well. I
believe in going down with a fight for property and the divine rights of ownership. However,
Roosevelt s idea for this was not so much influenced greatly upon the American people s public
opinion. Because of the shoot on sight poll, Americans knew that this would cause a heavy war
with Germany, causing a heaping 96 percent of Americans to oppose wartime with Germany during
the Gallop Poll number 9. However,

The Impact of Acronyms Use in Facebook on Language
Based on the observations and results that I gathered for 2 weeks, I found out that most of my
participant who uses Facebook daily uses acronym to update their status, provide feedback or
comment, chatting with other users, to give out information or to post personal details through
Facebook. For my research, I found out 5 most common acronyms used by my participants which
are BT, FYI, TQ, BTW, and FB. When asked about this, my sample gives out different opinion and
reason on why they tend to use this acronym when using Facebook.
In my view, they use acronym to shorten the sentence when they update their status in Facebook
via Facebook mobile as well as to reduce the time taken to type the full sentence. When asked about
whether using acronym limited the use and application of languages, they did not think about it at
all. For example, Mr. K from Evidence 4 stated that he does not care about language when he
update his status or chat with his friend in Facebook. For him, he only cares about using correct
form of language when he was in a formal environment, as an example, speaking to his English
lecturer.
Moving on, from the findings or results that I have gathered, I place my focus on only 5
acronyms in order to narrow my observation. However, I will discuss the 5 acronyms more in the
view of semantic. Semantically, all five acronyms mentioned in my research have different
meaning. As I set my observation throughout the 2 weeks period of time, I place my studies of

Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam is the undisputed father of India s missile program. He has breathed life
into ballistic missiles like the Agni and Prithvi, which put China and Pakistan well under India s
missile range. It is too exhausting to track Dr Abdul Kalam s achievements to date. In the 60s and

After that, he undertook a preliminary design study on Human Centrifuge. He designed and
developed a vertical takeoff and landing platform, and Hot Cockpit. Three years later, the
Aeronautical Development Establishment(ADE) was formed in Bangalore and he was posted there.
At ADE, Kalam served as a senior scientific assistant, heading a small team that developed a
prototype hovercraft. Defence Minister Krishna Menon rode in India s first indigenous hovercraft
with Kalam at the controls. But for reasons never explained, the project which would have been a
considerable international achievement in those days, was not encouraged. This was probably one
of the reasons why he moved out of ADE in 1962 and joined India s space program.
During 1963 82, he served the Indian Space Research Organisation(ISRO) in various capacities.
Here Kalam initiated Fibre Reinforced Plastics(FRP) activities, then after a stint with the
aerodynamics and design group, he joined the satellite launch vehicle team at Thumba, near
Trivandram and soon became Project Director for SLV 3. As Project Director, he was responsible
for carrying out the design, development, qualification and flight testing of 44 major sub systems.

After blindfolding a friend that is seated on the chair with his or her legs positioned one over the
other, sound the buzzer before immediately tapping your friend just below his or her knee with
the clinical hammer. Wait for 5 seconds before repeating this procedure for 20 to 30 times,
making sure in each trial that the buzzer is sounded immediately before the tapping of your
friend s knee. After numerous pairings, it is theoretically possible to observe a reflexive knee
jerk even without tapping your friend s knee, once the buzzer sounds. In this classical
conditioning experiment, the tapping of the person s knee with a clinical hammer is the UCS, as
it is a naturally occurring stimulus that elicits the UCR, which in this case is the reflexive knee
jerk action. The distinctive sound given out by the buzzer was initially the NS, but eventually
became the CS, after 20 to 30 pairings with the UCS within close intervals of 5 seconds during
the experiment. It has become a stimulus that is subsequently capable of eliciting a learned reflex
response on its own (CR) which was originally an UCR, because it has been paired with the
original UCS. This can be seen from the results shown by the classical conditioning experiment
conducted above. After the numerous pairings between the sound given out by the buzzer (NS) and
the tapping of the knee using a clinical

The author s main idea is that The challenge to the industry in Japan is finding enough young
people willing and able to create and export Japan s products of popular culture, while the
challenger in America is creating an audience that will continue to consume those products as it

He mentioned the word Otaku. He said that the term embraced by Americans. Because of the

National Health Service and why it was introduced into the everyday lives of the British people.
As the NHS is a major factor of the welfare given to the people of Britain, we must look at the
early years of the Welfare laws and acts passed down through the centuries, which eventually lead
to the creation of the NHS. The first welfare reforms were known as the Poor Laws , which had
their beginnings in the Elizabethan era. In 1601 the first Poor Laws were passed which basically

These improvements meant that people started to live longer. However for the extremely poor
there was still no safety net to help them in old age and meant that medical treatment was not
affordable to them at any cost. Even in a poor house or infirmary, medical treatment was crude
and basic and more often than not the patient still died with no cure for their ailments. In 1906
the Liberals swept into power as the ruling Government, and they introduced a means tested old
age pension for persons aged seventy years old or above (at this time the average life expectancy
for men was around 48 years old). By 1911 a basic national health and unemployment insurance act
was passed with contributions laid down by Parliament, with friendly societies and mutually owned
bodies operating the health schemes. During this time and into the twenties, municipal hospitals
were set up and they dealt with treatment for the poor or low income population, upper classes
could afford to pay for their own treatment and were generally excluded from using the municipal
hospital facilities. These hospitals grew in number and by the end of the thirties there were roughly
1750 municipal hospitals in England and Wales, and these provided training facilities for both
Nurses and Doctors. As the facilities got

Ancient Indian Empire Research Paper
The ancient Indian empire, built upon peace and riches, has created many notable advancements
in Indian history. The most notable time period was the Golden Age, the highlight of growth and
military stability. Worshiping the god Vishnu has created a path of righteousness and protection,
which inspired them to create a mindset of success. Through geographical influences, the Gupta
Empire rose and thrived in technological advancements and discoveries, until sadly ending in
cultural dispersion. The Ganges River and the Silk road were major contributors to the Guptas
trade. The Monsoon yearly rainfall helps the plants nourish and grow, giving a boost in their
financial position. After the heavy rainfall, the plants are ready to be harvested and sent off for
trade. The Ganges River was their water trade, giving them easier transportation for more goods
to be sold. It has been a major part in the conquering of different lands to make India larger and
stronger. The river has also given the Guptas ways to fish and nourish their harvest. The Silk Road
was a land path giving the Guptas a chance to trade with neighboring countries such as China,
Persia, Arabia, and even Egypt (SILK ROAD Dialogue). This gave India the ability to spread
hinduism and receive new material and products to expand their vast empire. Through the invention

Eating For Victory Chapter Summary
In the years after the Second World War, people created uncountable numbers of historiographical
research on various topics related to the war, such as military tactics in battles, individual groups of
men during their time in service, and other such subjects. Not much surprise exists then, that
women s actions in World War II eventually would also gain interest and publication for the public,
though it did not gain an undivided focus until the advent of women s and social history grew
momentum. Women, despite being half of the world s population, doubtlessly had acted during the
war years, although limited by social gender expectations of the period. As time passes from 1945,

Likely due to the plethora of evidence this sub group can give, the oldest sources on this particular
subject come from a domestic lens, which the following sources indicate in their arguments. The
monograph Eating for Victory: Food Rationing and the politics of Domesticity by Amy Bentley
centers on the American mindset concerning food that changed during World War II; her thesis
maintaining that the Roosevelt administration s decision to institute legal rationing, proven in its
ethical rightness in that this choice ultimately bettered the average American s diet. Bentley
justifies it through the apparent constraints of the massive undertaking the World War would
require through the cultural and social approaches, which suited the gendered approach the author
applied to this matter. And while she mentions economic and military approaches as well, a deeper
analysis of the propaganda towards women in families is the central emphasis in many chapters of
the book. Bentley collected information from many archival records such as the United States Food
Administration and information contained within the Office of War Information (OWI). Her final
conclusion is that the rationing process on the American home front during World War II had a
positive outcome. Through these conclusions, however, develops a contrasting opinion from other
historians; as her near overgeneralization of American unity

Deforestation In Japan
By the year 1570, Japan s population had reached 10 million. This spike in the population and the
continuous need for the natural resources led to a very serious environmental issue for Japan. For
the first time, the country was faced with widespread deforestation. Deforestation was not entirely
new. As long ago as 600 AD there had been localized deforestation, mainly in the Kinai region, as
the wood there was required for houses, war or even monuments. This didn t become a serious
problem at first as Japan s population was quite small and there were plenty of forests to use. In
fact, most of the population at that time encouraged deforestation so that they could use the cleared
land for farming and to make forest growth products such as fertilizers.

Why Is Henry V A Good King
Henry V was a man of little morals and an aspiration to be a great king, meaning he had to leave
the concept of being a good person far behind him. Henry V is well known for his invasion of
France and being underestimated, but what is not often talked about is the internal struggle that
he faced when he took the throne. It is clear when analyzing the events that he chooses to be a
good king over the latter and this meant having to make some terrible decisions, including the
murder of his friend. When looking at Henry s upbringing, his rise to the throne, and his reign,
the events can be seen as to how Henry chose being a good king over being a good man. Henry s
upbringing was not like a normal child s in today s age would have been. It is his subjectivity that

period, that was punishable by death and Henry gives the order to hang his dear friend Bardolf.
Not only did he give the order, but it is believed that he was a witness to it, meaning that this was
a fully conscious decision. Now, it is hard to imagine ever watching your best friend being hung.
Morally, Henry would have understood why Bardolf was stealing because he was poor and
looting was his way of providing. Because of Henry s involvement at the Tavern, he was aware
of his friends ways. Yet, as a king he was forced to view Bardolf as any other common thief and
for his crimes he had to be hung immediately. This satisfied the English people and that was
Henry s top priority. Bardolf s hanging acted as a test of faith, one that Henry passed with flying

The Dangers Of The Holocaust
When learning about the Holocaust in school some teachers play videos or show pictures of the
carnage of a concentration camp, all the student really sees are either walking skeletons or dead
skeletons. Some soldiers say they can never forget the smell when they first walked into a camp,
and thousands of people visit the remaining camps and feel as if they are walking through a
cemetery, which they are really. It has been sixty years since the Holocaustended, and over six
million Jewish people died in some of the worst possible ways. There are very few survivors left
today, and even after the camps were liberated the survivors were not treated humanely when they
finally got to return home. After all they went through they should have had more support to help
them after their ordeal, but to this day there are still people that deny that the Holocaust ever
happened. Something as terrifying as the Holocaust should not be questioned because someone
does not believe mankind is that cruel, that they just think survivors were mentally unstable and
wanted to get publicity, and mainly the reason is that they are anti Semitic. A person may not want
to believe that mankind is that cruel, but they have to know that it happened because something
that awful must be known to prevent it from happening again. Deborah Lipstadts podcast, How Do
You Stand Up to a Holocaust Denier, focuses on what a person should do when encountering people
that deny, not just the Holocaust, though that is

A Brief History of the Mi’kmaq
As the environmental movement has brought attention to the severe ecological degradation that has
occurred all over the world since the Industrial Revolution, more and more attention is also being
brought to the injustices that have divided and marginalized certain members of society, both on
local and global scales. Arguably the worst affected have been indigenous peoplesworldwide.
European colonialismbrought pestilence, rape, murder and the destruction of entire civilizations to
some of the most culturally and biologically diverse regions of the world. The remnants of those
cultures that managed to survive are now being subjected to neo colonialism in the form of
expansive trade and globalization. Cultures, like species, evolve over time due to various pressures.
It is not reasonable to assume a culturewill remain static, but when the traditions, language, and
lifestyle of thousands of peoples are eradicated within a 500 year time span, that is no longer
evolution, but intentional extinction. Some cultures managed to stay somewhat intact, but they are
under a new threat to assimilate to the homogeneity of language, culture, and technology brought on
by globalization or face extinction. Some peoples are doing what they can to fight the annihilation
of their unique identity. One such culture is that of the Mi kmaq of eastern Canada.

For the Achilles Tendinitis, it causes inflations, particularly in the leg area. Thus, the patients can
only experience joint pains and fever. On the other hand, Aortic stenosis is a cardiac valve disease,
which affects the circulatory system. In return, it mainly causes breathing problems, and joint pains
but no high fever. Finally, viral pharyngitis involves virus infections in the pharynx, thereby causing
breathing difficulties as the primary fallout. Treatment plan The best remedy for Acute Sinusitis is
centered in the use of clinical aids. Thus, the basic elements involved include physical, historical,

Film Review of Her
Is love a capability unique to humans, or are there no restrictions? And if there are no restrictions,
what determines whether that love can last? Her is a quirky, truly 21st century story that breaks
barriers by asking not who, but rather what we can love. Set in Los Angeles in the unspecified near
future, Theodore, a lonely writer in the midst of a divorce, stumbles into an unprecedented romance
with his Operating System, Samantha. The film raises scientific, philosophical, and even moral
questions, while never straying from its true purpose, which is to examine not only the way we love,
but the way we interact with other people in a world that seems to rely more and more on
technology to function. Writer and Director Spike Jonzeinvites the audience to have open mind and
undergo an individual exploration to these questions through the eyes of the characters. The film
showcases the infusion of technology into our lives and the challenges it creates for the way we
look at the world.
The unconventional nature of Theodore and Samantha s relationship is what drives them both
together and apart. It sets limitations on their abilities as a couple, but creates a bond that is
extremely personal. The main limitation is the fact that Theodore is only able to get to know
Samantha by hearing her speak, since there is no ability to see her or touch her. Samantha s voice
is the perfect blend of innocence and coy sexuality. There is certain rawness in the way she speaks
that makes

Cindy Sherman Research Paper
The artist I researched is Cindy Sherman. She is a American Photographer born on January 19,
1954 in Glen Ridge, New jersey. Her parents had five children and Cindy was the youngest of
them all. Her parents were not quit interested in art. Her dad was a engineer and her mom was a
teacher. In the early 1970s, Cindy enrolled at State University of New York to study art. There,
Cindy discovered that painting was not her gift. Cindy stated, I didn t want to make high art, I had
no interest in using paint, I wanted to find something that anyone could relate to without knowing
about contemporary art. I wasn t thinking in terms of precious prints or archival quality; I didn t
want the work to seem like a commodity. She could not express her artwork through panting.
Instead, she began to take photos. A lot of photographers take photos of other people and objects.

It is a picture of Sherman bent down and looking up. She has both of her hands down with a
whit collard shirt on. Sherman is looking up with brown short wet hair. Her whole background is
dark, while the light is specifically on her. It looks as if she is terrified. She is playing the role of
the scream queen in the movie King Kong and Dorothy from the Wizard of oz. I honestly do not
understand how this artwork demonstrates the roles that Sherman are playing. When I looked at
the picture and read the title, I interpreted she was scared and has been hurt before. She got her
heart broke and discovered that true love is only in fairy tales, however, her fairytale was a
disaster. This was not the meaning of the photo at all. According to The Art Story website, By
freezing the image into a kind of sorry, secular icon, Sherman demonstrates how art may act as a
visual truth serum, a force of social change by way of its ability to stop a viewer in his/her tracks
and suggest how certain assumptions are culturally inherited, not necessarily

Kathryn Mary
I ve written before about my younger sister, Kathryn Mary, who was born on September 13, 1972.
Within a couple of days of her birth, her doctors discovered that she had Down syndrome and a
heart defect that was going to eventually need to be corrected with open heart surgery.
Unfortunately, Kathryn never got to a point where she had enough strength and stamina to
withstand a surgery. She was so weak that she was never able to turn herself over or crawl on the
floor. She gained very little weight during the 13 months that she was with us. She died on
October19, 1973.
Kathryn was with us for only one Christmas, and there is only one thing that I remember about that
day. My grandfather, Tom Williams, came over to our house and when he saw my mom holding
Kathryn, he said in a loud voice, She s the best Christmas present you could ever ask for. You
should wrap a red bow around her and forget about all the other presents.
Shortly after the birth of our little Christmas present, one of her doctors told my parents that
children who are born with Down syndrome have a great love of and appreciation for music. The
doctor encouraged my parents to play music for Kathryn as often as possible. My mom did what
the doctor told her to do and played soothing music as often as possible, especially when she was
trying to calm Kathryn down or put her to sleep.
Although it s been more than 40 years since Kathryn died and went to heaven, I still think of her
when I consider the impact that music

The Chinese Revolution of 1949
The Chinese revolution of 1949
Introduction
The declaration of the People s Republic of China (PRC) in 1949 by the Chinese Communist
leader Mao Zedong signified a revolution in China that brought an end to the costliest civil war in
Chinese history between the Nationalist Party or Kuomintang (KMT) and the Chinese Communist
Party (CCP) that had lasted a period of 22 years from 1927 to 1949. The Chinese revolution of
1949 signified the beginning of an era of Communist Chinese rule ushered in by the popular
Chinese Communist Party at the expense of the Nationalist Party. According to historian Michael
Lestz, the Communist victory was an inevitability that was aided by the actions of the preceding
Nationalist government (Lestz, 2010). Lestz ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Second Unified Front was marred with distrust and suspicion and was therefore short lived.
Chiang Kai shek was not contented with shifting focus to the Japanese invasion and in the
processes expended KMT s resources on the Communists, while the communist took the opportunity
to further their influence among the rural peasants.
The CCP lobbied for its policies on land reforms that were lauded by the peasants as it included
fighting of the Japanese invaders from the land that rightfully belonged to the Chinese people more
so the peasants who had no wealth but ancestral land (Karl, 2010). The Nationalist party (KMT)
experienced dissent from the peasants due to the wartime corruption, undemocratic policies and
lack of a forward approach to fight against the Japanese invaders. The second Sino Japanese war
escalated to be part of the Second World War. The Sino Japanese war took a toll on the Chinese
economy and the Chinese public was disgruntled at the manner in which the KMT chose to handle
civil matters and the rising inflation that had increased the cost of living. General George Marshall
of the United States was astonished at the manner in which the KMT government did not concern
itself with the country s civil affairs and stated that the dominating KMT military accentuated the
weakness of the civil government, an administration system that he termed as deplorable. The KMT

Bull Trout Research Paper
Introduction: The Bull trout (Salvelinus confluentus) in the family Salmonidae and are a char
native to Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, Montana and western Canada. Compared to other
salmonids, bull trout have more specific habitat requirements that appear to influence their
distribution and abundance (USFWS, 2015). Bull trout were historically regarded as pests due to
their voracious predatory behavior. It was thought that bull trout depleted populations of more
desirable game fish by feeding on them when they were very small thus supposedly depleting the
numbers. In fact at one point there was a bounty placed on bull trout tails in Canada to encourage
fisherman to rid the waters of this Bully, which effectively eliminated them from certain watersheds
(Donald, D. B., and D. J. Alger. 1993). At one time in the early 1900 s the Bull Trout thrived in the
waterways of the Northwest. The Upper Snake Recovery Unit for the Bull trout occurs within
central Idaho, northern Nevada, and eastern Oregon. Major drainages include: the SalmonRiver,

Suckley in 1859 as Salmo confluentus, and later Linnaeus gave the Char the genus name
Salvelinus. The bull trout s species name (confluentus), which translates roughly from Latin to
mean flowing together, presumably refers to the larger rivers and streams which they inhabit
(Moyle, 2002). Bull trout are considered char and are native to the Pacific Northwest and western
Canada. The historical range of bull trout includes major river basins in the Pacific Northwest at
about 41 to 60 degrees North latitude, from the southern limits in the McCloud River in northern
California and the Jarbidge River in Nevada to the headwaters of the Yukon River in the Northwest
Territories, Canada (Watson, G. and T. Hillman. 1997) More westward the bull trout s current range
includes Puget Sound, various coastal rivers of British Columbia, Canada, and southeast Alaska

Women s Job Market And Qualifying For Senior Positions Essay
With more and more women participating in the job market and qualifying for senior positions,
gender diversity in senior and executive positions is of significance to the development of a
company (Johns,2013). Research studies show that companies with more females in top positions
perform better than those with fewer or no women. However, the phenomenon that women are
underrepresented exists globally, state Terjesen and Singh (2008). Although the status of the
women s workforce in senior occupations in the world in the last few decades has been improved
in many countries and regions(Kemp Madsen Davis,2015), women still remain outsiders in senior
positions in some counties. According to the data provided by Deloitte (2015), women in India
occupy fewer than 10% of seats on boards and fewer than 5% of board chairs while Norway has
legislated that 40% of the boardroom of public companies must be women, which has been
achieved within a few years. The initial progress of Norway for women impressed many western
countries and these countries tried to follow the same suit(Lang,2010). In political areas, the
percent of national parliament seats held by women of India is only 11.97% and is 7.33% lower
than femalerepresentation in governments around the world. However, Norwegian women s
participation in government takes up 39.64%. Many factors may have an impact on this case. This

Making Extraordinary Wine From California s Best Vineyards
One of the few remaining family owned wineries in the nation, Kendall Jackson Winery, Ltd. is
one of California s largest and fastest growing wine companies. Kendall Jackson and its sister
wineries comprise the 13th largest wine operation in the United States. The company produces
approximately 1.7 million cases of wineannually from the fruits of its more than 10,000 acres of
vineyards, and exports to at least 40 countries worldwide. According to company documents,
Kendall Jackson s four separate wineries house what is possibly the single largest barrel

Kendall Jackson consolidated its control over its supply chain by investing in barrel production and

practices in the vineyards.
Supply Chain at Kendall Jackson
The supply chain for this family owned business differs from the general wine supply chain
explained above given that their main strategy is to centralize and consolidate themselves several of
the stages in this process to maximize product quality.
1. Grape Grower
Kendall Jackson vineyards include 10,545 acres throughout California coastal regions, mountains,
ridges, hillsides and bench lands. These sites help draw a rich palette of aromas and flavors to
handcraft wines of exceptional depth and complexity. They currently grow Chardonnay, Cabernet
Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Riesling, and Merlot varietals.
Kendall Jackson uses sustainable agricultural methods ensuring that their vineyards will keep
producing the highest quality fruit for generations to come.
Each vineyard lot is kept separate at the winery, so it can truly capture the essence of each vineyard
site.

The Great Emancipator And A Tough Political Opponent...
Henry Clay, known as The Great Emancipator and a tough political opponent versus Andrew
Jackson in the 1832 election, made his opinion on Native American removal known in 1829
during his State of the Union Address (Biography.com Editors). Clay was in a position of great
power, as he was one of the first modern politician who had carefully create an image for himself
, which boosted his popularity in office, even against a famous opponent, such as Jackson. To
convey his audience, he uses literary devices, such as logos, by comparing the Indians as a
lower form of life. Despite his powerful position, he lost the electoral college s presidential vote
by a large margin, 219 49 (Courier). In Clay s speech On Native Americans, where he addresses
his plans of Indian removal west of the Mississippi, he uses ethos, logos, and others opinions to
take a stand against Native Americans.
Historical Background/Purpose of Speech Earlier serving a lawyer in the western United States, or
frontier, Clay never had much of a plan for a career in politics. He was born on April 12, 1777,
in Hanover County, Virginia (Biography.com Editors). As a son of a wealthy reverend, and the
seventh of nine children, he had a special link to American History. As the age of 3, he witnessed
the place he had called home, be broken into and damaged by British troops (Hopkins). Later, he
took his bar exam and was admitted in 1797 in Virginia. Clay moved to Lexington, Kentucky. Not

1868 election was important for Republicans, as they set out to obtain control over the executive
branch of government. Thomas Nast was one of many editorial cartoonists to expose the
Democratic party s resistance towards reconstruction during the campaign season of the election of

Nast displays how the ape like, Irish drunkard, with his cigars and alcohol bottles is allowed to
vote, yet the black man who fought for the Union in an effort to unify the nation is unable to
vote. Another aspect of irony displayed in this cartoon has to do with the background, in which a
Freedman s school is burning and a black man has been lynched. These two actions, taken out by
supporters of the Democratic party are violations of the black people s rights to education, as well
as safety to live in America. The irony is that the Democrats describe the Reconstruction Acts as
unconstitutional [and] revolutionary while the actions being carried out by Democrats are just
that, and Nast s cartoon serves to point that out. The final irony, a sad one is created by the
inclusion of an American flag below the black Union soldier. This flag shows that the actions being
taken by the Democrats are not only hurting the black people and preventing them from advancing
as a society, but are preventing America from advancing as a nation. It shows the result of the
Democrats actions and provides warning to the Republicans that they need to get out and vote or
else their country will ultimately pay the

With $11.3 million outstanding common stock shares, the resulting loss in shareholder profits is
$599M. Comparing this to the NPV of $584M for the planned production (210 units), it is feasible
to see that the shareholders bear the brunt of poor management decisions in project selection 3.
Question MBAT (A) With no subsidy the current NPV (with r=25%) is $122,101 (The IRR is
18%). Many ways to subsidize but subsidy must have a discounted value of $122,101 at a discount
rate of 25% for IRR = 25%. Pay $122,101 today or pay $298,099 = $122,101 x (1.25)4 four years
from now. Both will give project an IRR of 25%. Note that the interest rate for the city is 20%. If
they invested 122,101 today at 20% they wouldn t be able to get the $298,099 at the end of four

two year payback must get $1 million in cash flow and subsidies within the next two years. Amount
of required subsidy is $1 million 2x$371,739 = $256,522. Best for city to wait until the end of year
two to pay this to the firm. PV is $256,522/(1.20)2 = $178,140 (C) Subsidize the project so the
NPV is $75,000 and r = 20%. Unsubsidized cash flows have NPV of $37,666. Difference is

She doesn t fall under a single entrepreneur type as I believe she s the following types: The Innovator type, because she s happiest in her lab coat doing what she enjoys in the laboratory and is content to spend her days begin inventive and developing her organisation. For the first 11 years of building Theranos she was a very private person, and has only put herself forward as the face of Theranos so her company can get recognition and grow to a world leader. She not driven by money as she s stated she doesn t even own a television and her days spent between 18 hours of work and the rest asleep, so she measures her success on the success... Its advances relate to optimizing the chemistry and leveraging software to permit those conventional methods to work with tiny sample volumes. lab on a chip technology, which allows multiple measurements to be taken from tiny amounts of liquid on a single microchip (Loria, 2015). Since the development of this technology in 2003 by Elisabeth Holmes, the organisation has gone on to conduct over 3.5 million tests in Walgreens and the Cleveland Clinics throughout America. • 3. Tudor Hardship Throughout British history, especially between the time periods 1485 1603, obtaining the status of a knight and furthermore, being bestowed knightship, was a great deal of honor. Henry VII was King of England and Lord of Ireland from his seizing of the crown on August 22 1485 until his coincidental death on the 21 of April 1509, as the first monarch of the House of Tudor. The Tudor dynasty was a European house from 1485 until 1603. While knights displayed many positive attributes, they also faced many hardships being a knight. Hardships are more commonly known as tests. Tests were effectively used to evaluate a knight s loyalty to there king. A chivalrous knight was a highly touted individual that proved to be extremely valuable.... (P. 182) When he reports back to the king, the king asks, What saw thou there. (P.182) Gawain replies, I saw nothing but wind and waves. King Arthur was unimpressed and cast great doubt upon Gawain. ah traitor unto me untrue, now thou hast betrayed me twice, when you have weened that thou has been to me so loved and dear, would betray me for the riches of the sword. (P. 182) This shows Sir Gawain had some loyalty in the king, however, he displayed greed over a worldly possession. Furthermore, Gawain directly lies to the king by saying he saw nothing but wind and waves. Thus, preventing the king to question Gawain s loyalty because the king had felt he was betrayed. Sir Gawain exhibits a lack of loyalty and dishonesty, therefore causing the king to no longer trust him. Tests are a method of evaluating how well you performed in a specific field. Tests provide a clear insight as to how well a knight performs. For a knight, tests depict how loyal and trustworthy he is to his lord or king. There are a few examples of knights that display both loyalty and dishonor. One example of dishonor comes from Morte d Arthur. Sir Bedivere is instructed by King Arthur to take the ... • 4. CIPCA Pets The majority of children at CIPCC are able to fully participate in the program without requiring modifications. However, there are many alterations and modifications which we make to the Kiddie CATS program, to the environment and to the materials, to allow the program to run smoothly and create an atmosphere where children are able to participate, regardless of their ability. Certain children require additional support and accommodations, nevertheless, I can still see enjoyment and benefits from their participationin the program. The majority of the modifications that are listed in the manual are not used to address the modifications needed by specific individuals, but to increase efficacy and safety. We play a lot of games that use the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While we are playing games that have the teachers as one role and the students as another, we often invite children to participate by allowing them to hold a teacher s hand and take on the teacher s role. This can work, but sometimes is difficult and causes other problem. To address this, we could modify our approach to supplying support to these children. Instead of letting them take on the role of the teacher, we could allow the individuals in need of support to show a teacher how to take on the role of the student. The teacher could then, support the child and the child could still participate with their peers and continue the program. The children at CIPCC really like to interact and communicate with the teachers and the UVM students from the Fit Kids program. I think that the most influential ways to modify the games in this program will be to find unique alterations to address the individual needs of the children who could likely benefit from Kiddie CATs the most. I will continue to be thinking of modifications to allow this program to be more accessible and enjoyable to all children ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising Essay Like sheep led to the slaughter; this is one of the most famous analogies used to refer to the Jews during the holocaust. The Jews were being systematically murdered, beaten, and abused day after day, and there was almost no refusal on their part. Almost no one fought back. This however was not the case in the Warsaw ghetto. Throughout the summer of 1942, nearly 300,000 Jews were deported from the Warsaw ghetto to the Treblinka death camp. During this summer, a resistance organization known as the Z.O.B. was formed. It was headed by the 23 year old Mordecai Anielewicz, and was comprised primarily of young men. The deportations halted in September, and the Z.O.B. began collecting whatever weapons they could manage to smuggle into the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Jews were able to keep up the resistance for about a month, but the fight was officially ended on May 16 with the destruction of Warsaw s great synagogue (ushmm.org). About 7,000 Jews were killed during the uprising, and another 7,000 deported, but a few hundred German soldiers fell as well (history.com). Preparing for the resistance brought up both feelings of terror, and excitement over the fact that the Nazis would not be able to get away with at least one of their plans so easily. Zivia Lubetkin, who was a resistance fighter in the ghetto, describes the feeling of the resistance organization on the 18th of April after getting the news of the final roundup that was to take place the next day. She says [e]ven though we were prepared, and had even prayed for this hour, we turned pale. A tremor of joy mixed with a shudder of fear passed through all of us. But we suppressed our emotions and reached for our guns (Gilbert 557). Resistance was a new idea to the Jews. Since the Nazis had taken over, the Jews had found themselves in a rather helpless situation. As time moves on, things we do physically have slowly made its way to becoming electronic, such as e mail, and researching papers. Is this also the case for sports? E Sports are electronic sports, which are video games that are play at a professional level, for games such as StarCraft, League of Legends, DoTA 2, and etcetera. While the consensus of whether they are sports or not is mixed, I believe that they are not. The definition of a sport is an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another team or other individuals for entertainment. While E Sports cover the latter half of the definition, it leaves out the physical exertion of real sports. Despite that being the case, many others consider them sports. Then, they have to try out amongst other players, then compete in a smaller tournament to get a spot in the big leagues. Other times, some pro teams only require a series of tryouts for the position they want to play in the game. While E Sports do meet some of the requirements of being a sport, I believe that instead of being a sport, they are just competitions. • 9. The Value Of Experiential Learning The Value of Experiential Learning Adults seeking to complete their undergraduate or graduate degrees bring a unique perspective to the college classroom life experiences. For many adult students life experiences delayed the ability to attend college but valuable learning occurred by having careers, raising families, and traveling. Schooling in the traditional sense is void of knowledge unless academic teachings can be experienced and practiced in real life (Carroll, 2015). While not all life experiences can be classified as college level learning, an adult brings a level of maturity to their studies that are not often seen in the traditional college student. The value of experiential learning can be quantified not only in the adult learner but also in those that choose a second career in teaching. The National Center for Educational Statistics reported an increase of adults enrolling in postsecondary degree programs occurred over a ten year period from 1980 to 1990. In 1980 students over the age of 25 accounted for 38 percent of the total enrollment while traditional students made up 62 percent. In 1990 the younger population enrolling in colleges dropped 6 percent while older students increased 6 percent. This trend has stayed static through 2015 and remains so through 2026 projections (NCES, 2015). • 12. Is Hemophilia A Possible Cause Of Unexpected Bleeding... Introduction Hemophilia is a possible cause of unexpected bleeding during surgery. This paper will discuss important topics related to hemophilia, including pathology, risk factors, signs and symptoms, and treatment. Anatomy and Physiology of Hemostasis Hemostasis is the process whereby blood coagulates at the site of an injury to a blood vessel. Cellular components involved in hemostasis include platelets, endothelial cells of blood vessels, tissue factor bearing cells, and coagulation factors (Davoren Wang, 2014). Coagulation factors are specialized plasma proteins that circulate in the bloodstream in inactive forms. Most coagulation factors are activated by enzymes that catalyze their conversion to active forms. The active forms then contribute to hemostasis. Factors VIII (FVIII) and IX (FIX) are the factors involved in the most common forms of hemophilia. The coagulation cascade has many steps and reciprocal interactions; however, FVIII and FIX are most involved with the following steps: Injured blood vessel cells release tissue factor (TF), which activates factor VII. As ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Literary Analysis Of The Cat In The Hat The Cat In The Hat: A Story of Chaos and Order The Cat In The Hat by Dr. Seuss, pseudonym of Theodor Seuss Geisel, tells a story of two children at home on a rainy day alone, being visited by the Cat in the Hat and the turmoil that he causes. The Cat In The Hat is clearly Geisel s most famous book, written in 1956 and published in 1957, considered a children s classic today. It was The Cat In The Hat where Dr. Seuss jubilantly breaks the barriers of the basal reader s simplistic language and pedestrian artwork (MacDonald 10). In The Cat In The Hat, Geisel uses this childish language and comical pictures as well as an interesting story and fun characters to not only create a successful children s book but to deliver a subtle political message of rebellion against authority. The simplicity of the vocabulary and the sentence structure in The Cat In The Hat makes it easy for almost anyone to read and enjoy. In fact, many children learn to read today studying Dr. Seuss books. Virginia M. Reid, author of the article by the National Council of Teachers of English titled Weaning Books, refers to The Cat In The Hat as a baby food type of book for young children (8). It is these books that can get children excited about reading. Geisel uses repetition, poetic meter and rhyme to make the story flow, encouraging the reader to read it out loud. For example when the Cat In The Hat appears at the beginning of the story, he says I know it is wet, And the sun is not sunny. But we can have Lots of good fun that is funny! (Seuss 7). The words are simple and lively, immediately getting your attention. The use of the exclamation mark at the end of the sentence also cannot be a mistake. Geisel uses punctuation throughout the book for emphasis and amusement. The Cat in the Hat asks the children, Why do you sit there like that? almost mimicking what the reader is thinking (Seuss 6). Geisel has even gone so far to create a rhythm as one reads the story like poetry. It is this simple language that gives The Cat In The Hat its pleasure to the reader that runs parallel but separate to its entertaining illustrations. The vessel fired when the German submarine, U 652, had mistaken the American warship to be responsible for a depth charge from a British bomber s alert, and aimed torpedoes at the USS Greer. Through this event, this created immense tension between the United States and Germany, and was the very beginning of World War II. Franklin D. Roosevelt had very much to say about this situation, when he secretly called for the United States Navy to be ready to fight if any country decided to engage in war actions with America. Why was this decision so secret? In a conference on September 11, 1941, Roosevelt told American people the blunt truth, that the Germans had all intentions to sink the American ship. From this attack came Roosevelt s shoot on sight poll, addressed in the Gallop Poll number 7, released September 26, 1941. This poll had 56 percent of the American people agree with him. In my opinion, I would agree, as well. I believe in going down with a fight for property and the divine rights of ownership. However, Roosevelt s idea for this was not so much influenced greatly upon the American people s public opinion. Because of the shoot on sight poll, Americans knew that this would cause a heavy war with Germany, causing a heaping 96 percent of Americans to oppose wartime with Germany during the Gallop Poll number 9. The Impact of Acronyms Use in Facebook on Language Based on the observations and results that I gathered for 2 weeks, I found out that most of my participant who uses Facebook daily uses acronym to update their status, provide feedback or comment, chatting with other users, to give out information or to post personal details through Facebook. For my research, I found out 5 most common acronyms used by my participants which are BT, FYI, TQ, BTW, and FB. When asked about this, my sample gives out different opinion and reason on why they tend to use this acronym when using Facebook. In my view, they use acronym to shorten the sentence when they update their status in Facebook via Facebook mobile as well as to reduce the time taken to type the full sentence. When asked about whether using acronym limited the use and application of languages, they did not think about it at all. For example, Mr. K from Evidence 4 stated that he does not care about language when he update his status or chat with his friend in Facebook. For him, he only cares about using correct form of language when he was in a formal environment, as an example, speaking to his English lecturer. Moving on, from the findings or results that I have gathered, I place my focus on only 5 acronyms in order to narrow my observation. However, I will discuss the 5 acronyms more in the view of semantic. Semantically, all five acronyms mentioned in my research have different meaning. You will need a bell (or something you can ring), a hand held mirror, and a room that becomes completely dark when the light is turned off. Hold the bell while standing in the room near the light switch. Once in position, you should ring the bell and then immediately turn off the light. After waiting in total darkness for about 15 seconds, turn the light back on. Wait another 15 seconds with the light on, and then ring the bell and immediately turn the light back off... After blindfolding a friend that is seated on the chair with his or her legs positioned one over the other, sound the buzzer before immediately tapping your friend just below his or her knee with the clinical hammer. Wait for 5 seconds before repeating this procedure for 20 to 30 times, making sure in each trial that the buzzer is sounded immediately before the tapping of your friend s knee. After numerous pairings, it is theoretically possible to observe a reflexive knee jerk even without tapping your friend s knee, once the buzzer sounds. In this classical conditioning experiment, the tapping of the person s knee with a clinical hammer is the UCS, as it is a naturally occurring stimulus that elicits the UCR, which in this case is the reflexive knee jerk action. The distinctive sound given out by the buzzer was initially the NS, but eventually became the CS, after 20 to 30 pairings with the UCS within close intervals of 5 seconds during the experiment. It has become a stimulus that is subsequently capable of eliciting a learned reflex response on its own (CR) which was originally an UCR, because it has been paired with the original UCS. This can be seen from the results shown by the classical conditioning experiment conducted above. After the numerous pairings between the sound given out by the buzzer (NS) and the tapping of the knee using a clinical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As the NHS is a major factor of the welfare given to the people of Britain, we must look at the early years of the Welfare laws and acts passed down through the centuries, which eventually lead to the creation of the NHS. The first welfare reforms were known as the Poor Laws , which had their beginnings in the Elizabethan era. However for the extremely poor there was still no safety net to help them in old age and meant that medical treatment was not affordable to them at any cost. In 1906 the Liberals swept into power as the ruling Government, and they introduced a means tested old age pension for persons aged seventy years old or above (at this time the average life expectancy for men was around 48 years old). By 1911 a basic national health and unemployment insurance act was passed with contributions laid down by Parliament, with friendly societies and mutually owned bodies operating the health schemes. During this time and into the twenties, municipal hospitals were set up and they dealt with treatment for the poor or low income population, upper classes could afford to pay for their own treatment and were generally excluded from using the municipal hospital facilities. The most notable time period was the Golden Age, the highlight of growth and military stability. Worshiping the god Vishnu has created a path of righteousness and protection, which inspired them to create a mindset of success. The monograph Eating for Victory: Food Rationing and the politics of Domesticity by Amy Bentley centers on the American mindset concerning food that changed during World War II; her thesis maintaining that the Roosevelt administration s decision to institute legal rationing, proven in its ethical rightness in that this choice ultimately bettered the average American s diet. Bentley justifies it through the apparent constraints of the massive undertaking the World War would require through the cultural and social approaches, which suited the gendered approach the author applied to this matter. And while she mentions economic and military approaches as well, a deeper analysis of the propaganda towards women in families is the central emphasis in many chapters of the book. Bentley collected information from many archival records such as the United States Food Administration and information contained within the Office of War Information (OWI). The Chinese revolution of 1949 signified the beginning of an era of Communist Chinese rule ushered in by the popular Chinese Communist Party at the expense of the Nationalist Party. • 49. Bull Trout Research Paper Introduction: The Bull trout (Salvelinus confluentus) in the family Salmonidae and are a char native to Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, Montana and western Canada. Compared to other salmonids, bull trout have more specific habitat requirements that appear to influence their distribution and abundance (USFWS, 2015). Bull trout were historically regarded as pests due to their voracious predatory behavior. It was thought that bull trout depleted populations of more desirable game fish by feeding on them when they were very small thus supposedly depleting the numbers. In fact at one point there was a bounty placed on bull trout tails in Canada to encourage fisherman to rid the waters of this Bully, which effectively eliminated them from certain watersheds (Donald, D. B., and D. J. Alger. 1993). At one time in the early 1900 s the Bull Trout thrived in the waterways of the Northwest. Bull trout are considered char and are native to the Pacific Northwest and western Canada. The historical range of bull trout includes major river basins in the Pacific Northwest at about 41 to 60 degrees North latitude, from the southern limits in the McCloud River in northern California and the Jarbidge River in Nevada to the headwaters of the Yukon River in the Northwest Territories, Canada (Watson, G. and T. • 50. Women s Job Market And Qualifying For Senior Positions Essay With more and more women participating in the job market and qualifying for senior positions, gender diversity in senior and executive positions is of significance to the development of a company (Johns,2013). Research studies show that companies with more females in top positions perform better than those with fewer or no women. However, the phenomenon that women are underrepresented exists globally, state Terjesen and Singh (2008). Although the status of the women s workforce in senior occupations in the world in the last few decades has been improved in many countries and regions(Kemp Madsen Davis,2015), women still remain outsiders in senior positions in some counties. According to the data provided by Deloitte (2015), women in India occupy fewer than 10% of seats on boards and fewer than 5% of board chairs while Norway has legislated that 40% of the boardroom of public companies must be women, which has been achieved within a few years. The initial progress of Norway for women impressed many western countries and these countries tried to follow the same suit(Lang,2010). In political areas, the percent of national parliament seats held by women of India is only 11.97% and is 7.33% lower than femalerepresentation in governments around the world. However, Norwegian women s participation in government takes up 39.64%. Many factors may have an impact on this case. At the time, congress was radically Republican, yet had trouble passing legislature due to the Democratic President in office, Andrew Johnson. The election of 1868 election was important for Republicans, as they set out to obtain control over the executive branch of government. Thomas Nast was one of many editorial cartoonists to expose the Democratic party s resistance towards reconstruction during the campaign season of the election of 1868. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nast displays how the ape like, Irish drunkard, with his cigars and alcohol bottles is allowed to vote, yet the black man who fought for the Union in an effort to unify the nation is unable to vote. Another aspect of irony displayed in this cartoon has to do with the background, in which a Freedman s school is burning and a black man has been lynched. These two actions, taken out by supporters of the Democratic party are violations of the black people s rights to education, as well as safety to live in America. The irony is that the Democrats describe the Reconstruction Acts as unconstitutional [and] revolutionary while the actions being carried out by Democrats are just that, and Nast s cartoon serves to point that out. The final irony, a sad one is created by the inclusion of an American flag below the black Union soldier. This flag shows that the actions being taken by the Democrats are not only hurting the black people and preventing them from advancing as a society, but are preventing America from advancing as a nation. It shows the result of the Democrats actions and provides warning to the Republicans that they need to get out and vote or else their country will ultimately pay the ... Comparing this to the NPV of $584M for the planned production (210 units), it is feasible to see that the shareholders bear the brunt of poor management decisions in project selection 3. Question MBAT (A) With no subsidy the current NPV (with r=25%) is $122,101 (The IRR is 18%). Many ways to subsidize but subsidy must have a discounted value of $122,101 at a discount rate of 25% for IRR = 25%. Pay $122,101 today or pay $298,099 = $122,101 x (1.25)4 four years from now. Both will give project an IRR of 25%. Note that the interest rate for the city is 20%. If they invested 122,101 today at 20% they wouldn t be able to get the $298,099 at the end of four years. Best is make payment of $122,101 today (B) Subsidize the project for two year payback For two year payback must get $1 million in cash flow and subsidies within the next two years. Amount of required subsidy is $1 million 2x$371,739 = $256,522. Best for city to wait until the end of year two to pay this to the firm. PV is $256,522/(1.20)2 = $178,140 (C) Subsidize the project so the NPV is $75,000 and r = 20%. Unsubsidized cash flows have NPV of $37,666. Difference is $112,666.
