Learning Goals For Students Is A Taxing Task, But It Is...
Planning a curriculum that meets the need of students can be a taxing task, but it is necessary for
student success. Creating a cohesive unit entails breaking down the standards and developing essential
questions that will drive student learning and understanding. In addition to breaking down the
standards, it is important to set clear learning goals for students so they are able to accomplish the
learning set in the standards. The best way to set clear learning goals for students is to use the
Backwards Planning Model and be clear on the standards that will be taught. Carol Ann Tomlinson
and Jay McTighe (2006) believe the deliberate use of the backward design for planning courses, units,
and individual lessons results in more appropriate assessments and more purposeful teaching (p. 27).
When we as teachers know where our students are going, we can convey that information to them in a
way that meets their learning needs. A clear understanding of the standards brought on by backwards
planning will lead to clear learning goals for students.
Importance of Identifying and Communicating Learning Goals In order for students to gain the
learning needed to be successful in the classroom, learning goals must be translated in a way that is
clear and transferable. Students learn best when they know where they are going. McTighe (2010)
explains the most successful teaching begins with clarity about important learning outcomes and about
the evidence that will show

Greek Yoga
Much of the science of yoga was gained from watching nature and her creatures. Ancient saints and
sages noticed that animals with low respiratory rates, like the tortoise, but also like the elephant, and
the other animals listed in the chart below lived longer life spans with a controlled, long breath. One
can also notice, though, that as the speed of respiration increases, the life span of the animal shortens.
Animal Breathing rate, breaths/min Life span, years
Horse 8 15 50
Elephant 4 5 (lying down) 70

Slowly it dawns that we are not the master of our minds but actually the slaves of our minds. There is
failure, there is frustration, there is anger, there is plain discomfort when we resort to Mauna in sincere
earnest. The mind after all is not as obedient as what we thought it was. This makes us humble bereft
of natural pride and arrogance, generous and leads us to take a humane approach to other people s
shortcomings. When we stop giving the mind what it likes and wants i.e. when we practice Mauna, we
will realize that our own mind is not any better than anyone else s mind...
We thought that we are super nice and calm people, but not really.....
We thought that we are patient and compassionate people, but not really...
We thought that we are loving and unselfish people, but not really...
Thus, the practice of Mauna enables to see the truth of our own minds. It makes us more
compassionate and selfless, perform without any attachment, selfish desire and expectation. Our
thoughts, speech and actions get purified.
The purpose of Mauna is to turn our attention inward. As we tune into our inner space we are able to
identify and stop relating to what is called excess personality or externalized ego .
We begin relating to our Essential Self or Soul. It is our Essential Self that accesses our intuition and
finds the Infinite within.
The Power of Mauna
It is obvious that practice of Silence empowers you. This is

Gender Stereotypes In Mean Girls
Mean Girls is a comedy, yet accurate portrayal of the body image issues that high school girls face
today. This movie is more than just high school clique and popularity; it is critical representation of
the boundaries women in our society are not allowed to cross. Societal monstrous expectation of
female bodies has led to a problematic matter of self acceptance. Berreby extends this view in his
essay Rituals and Traditions: It Takes a Tribe where he mentions the idea of us vs. them in which he
states that society has created the idea that if one does not act in a certain way, they are automatically
considered them . Furthermore, it is essential to acknowledge that stereotypes found in movies like
Mean Girls, although a classic Hollywood movie, provokes a critical view of women and contributes
to perpetuate traditional gender stereotypes as it reflects dominant social values. The scene that best
represents this idea is where the Plastics are at the Old Orchard Mall when they see that Jason and
Taylor hanging out. This is when Regina steps up for her cliques and decides to hurt Taylor s
reputation for hanging out with Jason because Jason should only be with Plastics. So, she could keep
the status and power of Plastics. Following that event, the Plastics and Cady go over at Regina s house
where Cady meets Regina s abnormal mother. They go to Regina s room and this is when the Plastics
judge their bodies while looking at themselves in the mirror and Cady seems to be shocked by the
number of flaws they point out in their selves. At this point, the camera shows the social distance
between Cady and the Plastics separating Cady from the Plastics as Cady finds it hard to believe that
perfect girls like the Plastics can find flaws in them. Throughout the movie, the group is known as
Plastics to characterize them as plastic figures because plastic figures do not have flaws. In reality, the
Plastics are constantly critiquing their body even though students see them as being perfect. Cady is
new to this, I used to think there was just fat and skinny. But apparently there s lots of things that can
be wrong with your body. Cady s use of this dialogue addresses the idea of how it is impossible to

Pro Prison Recidivism
Recidivism is the act of re incarceration for inmates upon release of prison or jail and return with a
new conviction. One who partakes in recidivism is referred to as a recidivist. The Massachusetts
Department of Correction (MA DOC) defines a recidivist as any criminally sentenced inmate released
to the street from MA DOC jurisdiction who is re incarcerated in a Massachusetts state, county or a
federal facility for a new criminal sentence. (mass.gov). In FY 2014 it costs about $53,040.87 to house
an inmate in Massachusetts and with an average of 10,000 inmates incarcerated or in pre release
programs that s an astonishing $530,408,700 (a little over 1/2 billion dollars) of taxpayer dollars
funding incarceration in Massachusetts. Also, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These movements can be classified as a reform movement. Reform movements pursue changes that
will implement the existing value scheme more adequately. Reform because the pro prison reform
initiatives aim at allocating funding from prisons and jails to education, rehabilitation, and job skill
programs that actually save the society billions of dollars a year and educate felons so they are most
likely not to reoffend. Most of the recidivists are of African American or Hispanic ethnic background
and between the ages of 17 25 and lack education and or skills needed to meet our labor force. With
the cost of an average inmate at $53,000 in MA versus the $20,000 average cost of participating in
rehab programs aimed at deterring criminally aimed lives. The clash over resources and values is what
struck this growing social change for recidivism. Resources being monetary factor in incarceration
and the value of prison. We incarcerate and place people in the same environment we are trying to
release them from and they have no institutional programs aimed at solving this issue of recidivism.
The value as pointed out by the federal government is the notions that if the government doesn t start
hiring felons or ex cons how do they suppose that others will take on the same practice. No one left
behind is the model of the USA and is the main reason that we cant outcast our felons. President
Obama issued an executive order to combat this social problem demanding that all federal agencies
are prohibited of asking for ones criminal record before the offer of employment. Only when a job is
offered, is the time when a felon is supposed to disclose such information. This will lead us into a new
era of reducing recidivism as a society and lower crime rate in urban areas of the States. It is the role
of the government to lead such initiatives so that other local and state governments take head and

Bust Size Persuasive Essay
Many women yearn for larger breasts. While a breast augmentation, or a boob job, can certainly get
the job done, it is often expensive. Unfortunately, many women simply cannot afford the cost of
surgery. If you are one of them, you might be wondering if there are any other options available that
can help to increase your bust size.
The good news is, yes.
There are several non surgical methods for achieving a larger bust, including these three:
1. Fat Injections
A newer alternative to breast augmentations, fat injections are surprisingly effective. While they
cannot increase your bust size by several cups, it can help make them larger. As you might imagine,
this procedure involves sucking fat from another area of your body and then injecting ... Show more

For example, you cannot go from an A cup to a B cup. The results are also not permanent, so you will
need to have the procedure repeated at some point in the future. Still, it s a good option for those who
want a small increase without invasive surgery.
2. Breast Lift
Another non invasive option is a breast lift. Although it doesn t actually increase the size of your
breast, it does make them perkier and this can make them appear larger. For this procedure, Botox is
injected in to the breast muscle. The Botox paralyzes the muscle, which helps the breasts become
perkier.
Although a breast lift is very effective, it isn t permanent. Like facial Botox, it will need to be repeated
several times; as Botox typically only lasts a few months. So you should keep this in mind if you are
considering it.
3. Vacuum Bra
Vacuum bras are also another method for achieving larger breasts. As the name suggests, these bras
use suction to help give you larger breasts. Wearers put the bra on, turn it on, and let it suck the breast
tissue in. Over time, this helps to create larger breasts. While it might sound odd, it is surprisingly
effective for a small boost. However, results are not quick and the bra must be worn every day for

Essay about Book Summary The Bible Among the Myths
INTRODUCTION
The book opens with an introduction comparing the study of the Old Testament and the other religions
and cultures of other peoples from the Ancient Near East. Scholars used to believe that the Old
Testament was unique among other beliefs in the Ancient Near East but they now view the Old
Testament as identical to other religions of its day and time.
The author also discusses the vital philosophical distinction between essence and accident. When
removing an essential feature of an object, it will cease to be itself but if you remove an accidental
feature of an object, there will be no change in the object s essential being.
The author also introduces the characteristics of myth.
1) That human beings have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the groups of definitions falls under the category of the historical philosophical definition. The
first definition of myth in this category is the etymological definition. This definition stresses the
falsity of the deity or event or thing being described. The second is the sociological theological
definition where the truth is seen as relative and something is considered true if it is seen as true by
others. The third is the literary definition. These kinds of definitions claim to make no value judgment
about their material. The events are not seen as right or wrong and the narrative makes use of
symbolism to express it meaning.
The many definitions of a myth have one thing in common; they all give to the philosophy of
continuity. Continuity assumes that all things are not only related to one another, but are literally one
another in some fashion. Overall it can be said that whatever the Bible is, whether symbol or literal,
true or false, it is not myth.

CONTINUITY: THE BASIS OF MYTHICAL THINKING

details about what he touched on at the end of chapter two. The presence of continuity is the one thing
that myths have in common. The way of thinking in continuity views all things as part of each other in

Sccaffold Scenes In The Scarlet Letter
In The Scarlet Letter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne, three major scaffold scenes piece the novel together.
Hester Prynne plays a crucial part in these scenes. She mounts the scaffold in the first scene for public
humiliation for the sin she commits. The second scaffold scene is where Reverend Dimmesdale tries
to confess his sin at night. The Puritans believe that darkness is evil, so they suspect something is
wrong with Dimmesdale. In the third scene Dimmesdale confesses what he has done wrong, he falls
out dead now that the burden is gone from his life. Hester Prynne and Reverend Dimmesdale commit
a sin that holds a weight on their life; however their wrongs are the glue that holds the novel s morals
together. In the first scaffold scene Hester Prynne is introduced as a beautiful women who commits an
ugly sin. Hester is now known for committing adultery. Standing on the scaffold is one of her very
minor punishments. It states, she ascended a flight of wooden steps, and thus displayed to the
surrounding multitude (Hawthorne 37) . Hester Prynne walks up the stairs gracefully not ashamed of
her scarlet letter. The scarlet letter is another punishment she receives but she also flaunts the letter
and is unashamed of it. Hawthorne says, When the young women the mother of the child stood fully
revealed before the crowd, it seemed to be her first impulse to clasp the infant closely to her bosom
(Hawthorne 35) . Hester Prynne becomes terrified because the townspeople start

The Interaction Between Clergy And Laity In Richard IV
The interaction between clergy and laity is also discussed a fair bit in the subtext of the source.
William Longchamps, bishop of Ely, and chancellor in Richard s stead, took castles and titles away
from the men who held them and hand[ed] them over to foreigners and unknown men (31). This
shows that the hold he has over the land with the king gone (i.e. clergy could have a firm grasp on the
government). The only other person to do this is John (the king s brother), who takes the castles away
from the men William assigned and returned them to their rightful castellans. It shows that the power
held by William and John to be about equal, since they both do the same things. Next, the clergy and
laity were against the chancellor who was hated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Next, monks were not supposed to have (although they did) interactions with the outside world, but as
Richard (the chronicler) mentions the monks live secluded ... and yet you know everything that is
done in the world as soon as it takes places, and sometimes ... in advance (2) . This illustrates that not
all monks or monasteries followed their respective Rule fully. Some might have needed to trade, to
confer blessings, or pray in the church that the laity attend putting them in close proximity to the laity.
Monks also elected their future bishop without the assistance of the secular clergy (57). This
elucidates that the secular clergy generally got involved in the elections of clergymen, possibly putting
in their own men for the position, demonstrating that the secular clergy had little to no say in the
election, even when they were involved. The secular clergy opposed him [the chosen bishop], the
monks obtained him (57). Lastly, the bishop of Chester out of hate for religious orders cast the monks
out of Coventry (69). One must first ask: Why is this man a part of a religious order if he hates them?
and next: What was the outcome of that

Gwen Harwood s mournful laments Mother Who Gave Me Life and Father and Child explore the

Harwood s elegy Mother Who Gave Me Life nostalgically explores the confronting concepts of the

Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Policy Essay
Today s military is a unique force in my opinion. What makes the US Military so unique is that we
have an all volunteer force. With that volunteer force there are rules and regulations that need to be
followed because serving our country is a privilege. The Don t Ask, Don t Tell policy is claiming that
even though it may be considered an infringement on human rights and freedom of expression, it
protects the rights of the rest of the military and opens a loophole for gay men and women to serve in
the armed forces. Other countries have successfully integrated gay men and women into their
militaries and compared the treatment of other minority groups in the military. Is the Don t Ask, Don t

There are claims that allowing gays and lesbians into the service openly about their sexual orientation
is violation to all service members privacy. Officially, military commanders and investigators are
required to respect service members privacy and are not allowed to investigate personnel for
homosexuality. This action is described as a witch hunt. Witch hunts distract the service members
from their work and the Don t Ask, Don t Tell made this distraction easier. This causes interference
with the ability for them to do their job performance effectively. The United States is not the only ones
who use the DADT ban. There are several militaries all over the country that has experienced this ban
at one point. For example, they are Australia, Britain; Canada, and Israel just to name a few. They
have all changed or lifted their ban without any problems and most often maintained excellent careers
and good morale. Belkin, McNichol reports, that In November 1992, the Australian Defense Forces
lifted its ban on open gay and lesbian soldiers. Using all available data from military, academic, non
governmental, and other sources, this report assesses the extent to which the lifting of the gay ban has
affected the well being and performance of the Australian military. (Belkin, McNichol) Before the
Australian Defense Force lifted their policy there were several reports of sexual harassment. The

Robert Browning and the Power of the Dramatic Monologue Form
Robert Browning and the Power of the Dramatic Monologue Form
The dramatic monologue form, widely used by Victorian poets, allows the writer to engage more
directly with his reader by placing him in the role of listener. Robert Browning utilised the form to a
famously profound effect, creating a startling aspect to his poetry. In poems such as Porphyria s Lover,
and My Last Duchess, for example,
Browning induces a feeling of intimacy by presenting the reader as the
confidant to the narrator s crimes; in Soliloquy of the Spanish
Cloister, the reader is more a witness to the narrator s increasing instability. Thus, Browning is able to
use the dramatic monologue form both to expose the narrator s frailties, and as a channel ... Show

Browning immediately makes this attitude appear ridiculous by demonstrating the Duke s bullish
approach to the painter of his wife s image. The Duke condemns the earnest glance required by the
painter s profession in exaggerating its depth and passion. The Duke seems to interpret his wife s
happiness as an affront to his gift of a nine hundred years old name, complaining that She had/ A
heart... too soon made glad, / Too easily impressed. The envy stems from a materialistic fixation
similar to that of the Bishop in The Bishop
Orders His Tomb at Saint Praxed s Church, whose holiness is undermined with an obsession for an
extravagant resting place.
Vanity, saith the preacher, vanity! declares the Bishop in the poem s opening line, setting the tone for
the rest of the monologue.
The Bishop appears transfixed with the idea of an overstated tomb that would undermine the paltry
onion stone of that of his rival, Old
Gandolf. He interrupts his philosophising to declare that the tomb should be Peach blossom marble
all... True peach/ Rosy and flawless.
Later though, he supersedes even this outrageous demand, asserting
All lapis, all, my sons, referring to the incredibly rare lapis lazuli, Big as a Jew s head and Blue as a

man who has vowed to live in poverty. However, the most despicable examples of his vanity are

The 1990s Conflict Of Kosovo
Intro
The 1990s conflict in Kosovo is one that has been identified as a result of a long running and
intractable dispute. The dispute identified is one between Kosovo s Albanians or Kosovar, and the
Serbians. The reasons for the dispute stem from several issues, each can be attributed to increasing the
intractability of the conflict.
The issues that have been identified stem from ethnic issues, or political. In the Kosovo region the
ethnic issues stem from the vast differences between the Albanians and the Serbs, this is attributed to
other issues such as rising ethnic tensions, and racism between the two groups. Another issue that has
been identified is the strong and underlying senses of nationalism that run through this region on both

Influential Serbian poet and writer Matija Beckovic talks of the Serbian sentiment of their status in
Kosovo, Kosovo would be Serbian even if there were not a single Serb living there. This quote
provides an insight into what is highly likely a Serbia wide perspective of the situation in Kosovo.
This suggests that a strong attachment between the Serbs and Kosovo is still present when this quote
was presented, this suggestion, if true would strongly contribute to the intractability of the conflict.
This disagreement between the two groups is an example of the issues that surround Kosovo, and how
these two groups disagree at the base level. If neither party can agree on an issue so simple as who
was there first, it suggests that further issues will arise, contributing more to intractability.

question. Rate laws display the mathematical expression of the rate of a chemical reaction and the
concentration of its reactants. Rate laws are expressed in regards to the three types of reaction orders:
0, 1st, and 2nd. In rate laws, reaction orders are expressed as exponents and showcase the effect of
reactants concentrations on the rate of a chemical reaction. The rate constant is displayed as k and
represents a certain reaction. Furthermore, the three rate laws are as written, rate= k for zero order,
rate= k[A] for first order, and rate= k[A]2 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The actual rate law was rate= k[CV+]1[OH ] 1 with an overall order of 2. This was concluded by
plotting all three reaction order types in separate graphs and determining the straightest graph; then
calculating concentrations in order to determine the rate constants, pseudo k, and rate laws. For
example, M1V1=M2V2 led to [OH ] by calculating (10 ml) (0.10 M) = (20 ml) to equal 0.05 M of
OH. The actual rate constant was found by taking the negative slope of the first order graph (0.0055 s
1) over the concentration of OH (0.05 M), which equated to 0.11 M 1s 1. With this being said, CV
decolorizes at a first order rate law whose graph yields the straightest line containing the highest R2
value (0.9973) closest to 1. Lastly, comparing the findings of the data from figures 1 4 to other groups
date, resulted in discrepancies. Other groups claimed that CV would decolorize at a reaction order of
zero because it s graph yielded the highest R2 value. In relation to this, other groups findings could
have been a result of certain error such as: not having the colorimeter calibrated once the reaction
mixture was prepared, using inaccurate equations to graph data, and not using graduated cylinders to
obtain precise

Theme Of Friendship In The Outsiders
A Story About Friendship, Courage, and Empathy The functions of intellect are insufficient and
useless if you are without courage, love, friendship, compassion, and empathy, says a quote by Dean
Koontz. Throughout S.E. Hinton s book The Outsiders, there are many themes that she conveys in the
book as she narrates the experiences of a greaser named Ponyboy who is a member of the Social
group (Socs). Ponyboy meets many people and witnesses many difficult situations throughout the
book. This inspirational book teaches the reader crucial lessons that are very important for everyone,
even if their lives are not anything like Ponyboy s. Three important themes in the book include
friendship, courage and empathy. Friendship is mandatory to be able to trust and rely on one another.
Hinton writes about troubles that Ponyboy goes through and how his friends have a great impact on
these experiences. For example, Johnny killed Bob who was a member of the Socs, because he saw
that Bob along with other Socs were trying to drown Ponyboy. He knew that he d be in trouble, and he
could have just left then and there. Instead, he killed Bob because they were hurting Ponyboy. Another
situation where the author shows the theme of friendship is when Ponyboy got jumped and his whole
gang came to help him. They were always ready to help a member of their group. Also, the situation
when the church was on fire and Dally went to try and save Johnny, shows friendship as well. In
chapter 6, Jerry, who Ponyboy thinks is one of the school s teachers, says, We think the towheaded kid
is going to be all right. He burned one arm pretty badly, though, trying to drag the other kid out of the
window, (pg. 95). This tells us that Dally, who at first wouldn t help the children in the church, helped
Johnny get out because he was his friend and he cared about him. This shows how Dally demonstrates
his friendship. Courage is crucial to be able to overcome obstacles and help others. Courage is a big
theme in The Outsiders. For example, Ponyboy showed a lot of courage when he decided to fight in
the rumble. He wasn t in good shape as he had lost weight and was very tense. However, he fought in
the rumble regardless to show his gang that he

The Negative Outcomes of Homeschooling
Many people think that homeschooling is a better way to educate their children, but they never stop
and think about the negative outcomes it can bring. Homeschooling has a more negative outcome than
public or private schooling. This is because in many cases parents do not have enough knowledge
about a certain subject or have enough time to home school their children. Another reason why
homeschooling is not the best choice is because children would not grow up as social as other kids
who attend a public or private school. Last but not least, one more reason is the high cost of
homeschooling. These are only some reasons why homeschooling is not a healthy choice for all the
children. Parents have a huge responsibility when they make the tough decision to home school their
children. This is not a simple job for parents to decide whether or not to home school. When parents
make a decision to home school their children, they have to keep in mind that it takes a large amount
of time as well as dedication on both sides. This is because parents have to be sure that their children
are doing their work and not gazing off. Children need to have in mind that they would have to
manage how to schedule their timing correctly. In addition, this might make it harder to manage work
and other household tasks for parents. They have to not only be in charge of their children and how
they re doing their work but also they have to be responsible for their jobs and all the households

Nietzsche s Philosophy On The Priestly Figure
Friedrich Nietzsche puts forth the image of the priestly figure in what seems to be a positive and
negative manner. Priests are the greatest haters in the world but they are also the most intelligent
(p.17). Nietzsche s position, according to me, seems ambivalent due to the context in which he refers
to them is altering. There is no clear light in which the priestly figure is shown to be inherently
positive or negative. In this paper, I will bring in his claims, explicate Nietzsche s standpoint on the
priestly figure and how they are ambiguous as they are not thoroughly positive or negative. To begin
with, Nietzsche was a relentless critic of morality and questioned the concept of good and bad.
Similarly, he proposed a question on whether the self is an affirmation of good or negation of evil. He
establishes that good/evil and good/bad come from two distinct origins, where the two good s
radically oppose each other. For Nietzsche, this is what seems like the slave morality, which says that
evil equates to what is good and the master morality that equates bad to good. Slave morality proposes
that if you are evil then I am good while the master morality says if I am good, then you bad. This is
essentially who the priest is. They are those who feel powerless in situations where there is physical
power present. A venomous hatred is then manifested for the powerful as they are supposed to be
spiritually powerful people. This also lies in ressentiment of the weak that

Google s Performance Management?
Performance appraisals are tailored to deliver great results for Google s smart creatives. Senior vice
president of people operations Laszlo Bock offers great insight about the company s performance
management in his book Work Rules. Googlers first identify a group of peer reviewers for each
employee, which also includes co workers who are junior to the employee. Google abolished
numerical ratings in April 2014, so each Googler is now subjected to a five point scale fluctuating
from needs improvement to superb. Carried out semi annually, peer reviewers are asked to state one
thing the reviewee should do more of and one thing that they can do in a different way. After the
feedback cycle, managers come together to look at these peer reviews. The main goal is to prevent
bias in feedback by asking each manager to justify their decisions. Executives are informed about
possible hindrances to objective feedback, one of which is the tendency to exaggerate an employee s
most recent performance. By keeping these obstacles in mind, managers decide on the final evaluation
of an employee. Brief summaries of these assessments are shared semi annually and compared to a set
of examples to justify the evaluation. Employees are then informed of their compensation;

The present study attempts to analyse the governing factors behind the delays in construction of
highway projects in India. Ahmedabad, largest city in the state of Gujarat and the adjoining areas are
considered for fetching the data required in the present work. Pre designed questionnaire is prepared
and used as a research tool for collecting information pertaining to frequency of occurrence of non
value adding activities in highway projects with respect to construction practices. Seventy seven
samples are being collected and the same are used here for the analysis. Fuzzy Logic based Delay
Prediction Models (FL DPM) are developed to predict the delay in construction of highways for
different levels of control over the three categories of predictor variable i.e. Human Resource,
Equipment and Material. The developed models are observed to predict the delay in projects
satisfactorily as validated by the collected responses. These models find application in Indian
infrastructure industry where a huge uncertainty prevails right from the planning phase to the
execution of the project. The findings here can facilitate dissemination of research and practice of
Lean Construction concept among stakeholders of the Indian construction sector which is believed to
mitigate various losses that accompanies the conventional approaches, particularly in the execution of
highway projects.

The Tourism Industry In Queensland
1.0 Introduction
Tourism is a key player in the development of any nation because of the revenue that the industry
accrues as well as the exchange of social and political ideologies between the tourists and the
populace. As such, tourism in the Queensland has been a major player in the economic, social and
political development of the nation (Schaffer 2010). The tourism industry has set up measures to meet
the increasing and sophisticated needs of tourists in all tourism sectors through identification of niche
markets then developed best tourism products for such markets (Hayes 2010). This paper therefore
identifies a tourism sector in the Queensland hospitality industry and explores the market coverage,

The AOT branch that deals with sports tourists in Queensland is located in Brisbane, the capital of

with all tours products and services. However, the increasing number of sports tourists in Queensland
has been a challenge to AOT in trying to service all of them. This increase in market segment has
strained the management of the tours company leading to outsourcing some of the services such as
accommodation and travel agents.

M2M Communication System for Networked Robots with Low...
Initially the robot has pain w, set according to the quality of the work to be performed, and it has an
empty RRT buffer. It keeps on performing its task with the aim to minimize the pain w. If the task
requires any information to be sent the pain c is incremented. Then the robot starts sensing for the
communication signal from its neighbors. If no signal is received the robot starts scanning for
neighbors. If no neighbor units are around the robot will take one RRT step, through RRT forward
propagation block in Fig. 2, and push the initial location node information into the RRT buffer as
shown in Table 1. By doing so the robot has acquired an increment in the pain c. More c represents
that the urge to communicate is more. The physical displacement of robot and the RRT buffer state at
each step for RRT Forward Block is shown in Fig. 1.
After reaching the new location node the robot again scans its environment for any robot in its
communication range. If no robot is found, it again goes through RRT forward propagation block.
Each time the pain c increases and a new location node is reached to scan other robots. If even after
three steps no robots are detected in scanning. The robot will check for the greater pain among c and
w. If c is still greater than w the robot will wait some finite amount of time and keep on decreasing c.
When c becomes less then w the robot makes the value of c equal to zero, which means the message to
be transferred is lost. The robot then return to

Cave Paintings In The Film Cave Of Forgotten Dreams
Thinking of life back almost 40,000 years ago can be a challenge to wrap the mind around. To learn
about the human species past, we must decipher the clues left behind of how humans used to live.
When asked to recreate cave paintings a common drawing some might think of stick figures. The
actuality of the cave paintings is that they are incredibly detailed and are able to show the artistic
talent of the cavemen and women. In the film Cave of Forgotten Dreams, it focuses on a cave in
southern France and the intricate paintings and artifacts found inside. The cave dates to around 30,000
years ago and there is a unique aspect of how everything was preserved. In fact, a ledge of rock fell

The animals ranged from horses to rhinos, and even cave lions. The drawings were detailed enough to
allow scientists to decipher the paintings and learn what they were witnessing at that period of time.
Along with the paintings of the animals, bones were found in the cave and that also revealed more
about the life in the cave other than just the cavemen and women. Using all of this information given
to them, the scientists were able to learn not only how the cavemen and women lived but how animals
lived during this time. The drawings in the cave in Southern France seemed to be quite anatomically
correct to the animals roaming Earth today. The drawings are so detailed that there is not much
hesitation on what type of animal they could have been drawing, it is obvious what their intent was. A
surprise regarding the animal paintings was the lack of anything other than mammals. Throughout the
cave there were a handful of paintings depicting insects such as butterflies and the one sole drawing of
a human, but besides that they animals were mammals. Why these paintings are important depends on
who is answering the question. A scientist might answer differently than an art professor who might
answer differently than a random civilian. The importance is in what each person gains from these
drawings. A scientist can analyze and learn about who lived there and how they looked and acted. This
was shown by the analysis of the red hand prints and the

stated, from the moment when Hitler s invasion of Poland revealed the bankruptcy of all existing
methods to preserve peace, it became evident... that we must begin almost immediately to plan the

Pros And Cons Of The Treaty Of Versailles
Treaty of Versailles
In January,1919 the allied leaders attended a peace conference to discuss about the peace terms they
would offer to the central power in Paris. Twenty seven victorious Allied powers were present, but the
meetings were dominated by the Winners , Britain, France and USA. Russia was not summoned
because she was not trusted after the Bolshevik Revolution of November 1917 and had already made
peace with Germany. The treaty was crafted so that Germany would be disabled and it wouldn t restart
another war and the country was severely treated as her most worthy assets were taken. The
stipulations of the treaty were categorized into three groups: Territorial, Military and Financial and

During World War One, Bulgaria was an ally of Germany and the big three were not made to either be
understanding or open handed to Bulgaria. Like Germany and Austria, as other settlements after the
war, Bulgaria was required to shrink its army and pay restitutions. Following the treaty of Neuilly, the
Bulgarian Army was limited to just 20,000 men and was ordered to pay reparations of £400 million.
Under the articles, Thrace (a geographical and historical area in southeast Europe, now split between
Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey) was granted to Greece.
What s more, Bugalria lost its admission to the Aegean Sea, which it had achieved in 1913 in the first

This treaty was not effective because Bulgaria did not follow it through until 75% was decreased from
it. Upon learning of the terms of the Treaty of Neuilly, the Bulgarian people were furious. However,
they were powerless and couldn t do anything to change the conditions. When World War Two broke

Positives of the Law
When President Bush signed the No Child Left Behind Act in 2002, he promised that his education
reform would bring hope to children. The law calls for more testing in third to eighth grade each year
in reading and math (Bacon, 2003). Students will be tested to make sure that the schools are
adequately teaching them the information they should know.
In 53% of American schools, which receive direct Federal Government financial support because they

The President is also trying to make sure parents are more involved. Each state and school district is
required to give parents easy to read, detailed report cards about schools and school districts, telling
them which ones are succeeding and why. Included in the report cards are student achievement data
broken out by race, ethnicity, gender, English language proficiency, migrant status, disability status
and low income status, as well as important information about the professional credentials of teachers
(U.S. Department of Education, 2003). This makes sure that parents are involved in their child s
education and that they are able to make clear decisions on whether or not they want their child at that
specific school.
States are now receiving more funds than ever before for education. An estimate of about $23.7 billion
will be used during this 2003 04 school year. Most of this money is being used to turn around low
performing schools, improve teacher quality and increase options for parents (U.S. Department of
Education, 2003). For the President s Reading First initiative, he has increased funding from $300
million to $900 million to make sure schools are using systematically proven methods of reading
instruction (Bush, 2002).
In particular, New York State will receive $129

Death In The Woods
A Critical Analysis of Death in the Woods Death in the Woods is a story about a woman that lives a
hard life. When she was a girl she worked for a German farmer and his wife. When she was a little
older she married a man named Jake Grimes thinking she would get away from the crude work of the
farmer. She soon finds out that life doesn t get any better for her than it already was.
Later in the story she is found dead by a rabbit hunter in the woods (Cleveland).
Death in the Woods seemingly concerns a farm woman, Mrs.Grimes, who, only in her early forties,
seems old and probably psycotic. She doesn t have a first name in the story, and, indeed, very little is

A person could then appropriate a single one of these truths and try to go by it. That is when he or she
would become a grotesque. The stories in Winesburg, Ohio do grapple with Anderson s intended
theme, and a story such as Hands clearly illustrates what he means by grotesque (Ellis 2).
The hands belong to Wing Biddlebaum, formerly Adolph Myers, a teacher in a Pennsylvania village
who was beaten and run out of town for caressing boys. Anderson Cleveland 4 is oblique about Wing s
homosexuality, for the thrust of the story. In the story Death in the Woods, as a girl, Mrs. Grimes was
sexually abused her German owner (Doneskey 1 3).
The Philosopher provides a more subtle illustration of grotesque and introduces the idea that a
grotesque need not be pitiable or tragic; in fact, he can be wildly humorous as demonstrated at the
beginning of the story with the philosopher s description (Doneskey 1 3).
Anderson was interested in the development of the artist type, the inner desires of repressed people,
the failure of people to communicate their true selves; the way conventions and tradition have twisted
and distorted the individual (Doneskey 1 3).
Anderson wrote several versions of the tale before he felt that he had to come close to telling it
adequately, and one of the most narrative devices

Social Class In Great Expectations By Charles Dickens
Through the Social Class
Society has developed the concept of social class, to categorized people into different groups based on
economic, political, and socio economic status. This concept has made it difficult for the middle and
lower class to succeed. Charles Dickens had a sense of writing during the Victorian Era as it sought to
represent a large and comprehensive social world, with a variety of classes. Novels during this time
were made to be realistic and Charles Dickens excelled at doing that and exceeded expectations. One
of his most famous novels, Great Expectations was set in early Victorian Era when great social
changes were sweeping the nation. Charles Dickens s Great Expectations tells the story of Pip, an
English orphan who rises to wealth, deserts his true friends, and becomes humbled by his own
arrogance. This piece, and a couple other of his pieces including one of his short novels, George
Silverman s Explanation and a poem classifying the rich, The Fine Old English Gentleman developed
a concept of social class. Throughout each of the three pieces, the social class is somehow brought up,
whether that being a short snippet, or the way it can change someone throughout the classifications of
the social class.
Charles Dickens s Great Expectations was during a time where great social changes were sweeping
the nation. Although social class was no longer entirely dependent on the circumstances of one s birth,
the divisions between rich and poor remained nearly

(1501 1736) dynasties, is one of the famous painters in Islamic world. Historical records and paintings
related to him are so numerous. From the beginning of 20th century, art historians challenged again
and again to define the style of his paintings and to attribute the non signed works to him. However,
the characteristics thought as Bihzād style are vague, so the re examination of his style is needed. In
this essay, I would like to re examine what is called Bihzād style , by comparing the Persian painting
with Chinese painting.

However, this is not true, because as mentioned above, the taste for Chinese landscape motifs was
already seen in the 13th century. It would be more appropriate to see the works of Bihzād s figural
paintings rather than landscape paintings to define the Bihzād style. According to the one of the
contemporary historical records, Bābor nāma, Bābor wrote Bihzād was good at portraits of beard man.
The statement by Bābor means people who lived in the same period thought Bihzād s strong point was
drawing figures. Figure 1 is the portrait of Dervish, which is attributed to Bihzād. The brush work is
similar to the techniques of Chinese nail head rat tail (釘頭鼠尾in Chinese) (see fig 2). Compared to
classical style of Persian painting (see fig 3), the depiction of hairs, mustaches and beard are so fine.
The shadowing and the realistic depiction of ears, nose and mouth are also rarely seen in the classical
Persian painting. The Chinese derived features of this painting (fig 1) mean, in this period, Persian
painters imitated the works of Chinese paintings. And by doing so, they gradually introduced some
traces of Chinese painting techniques to Persian painting. The influence of Chinese painting had great
impact before the Timurid dynasties, but according Sugimura, Persian painters started to borrowing
the physiognomy for the first time in this period. From his indication and the comparison between
Bihzād practice drawing (fig 1) and Chinese painting (fig 2), Bihzād style could be defined by the
depiction of figures rather than landscape painting

Charles Manson Case Study
1. The members of Charles Manson s cult family were Leslie Van Houten, Bobby Beausoleil, Paul
Watkins, Catherine Gypse Share, Mary Brunner, Susan Atkins, Linda Kasabain, Steve Grogan,
Patricia Krenwinkel, Charles Watson, and Squeaky Fromme. Almost all of the members came from
middle working class families and were generally happy people. Some of the members were also very
religious like Charles Watson, for example, was a leader of a church youth group and enjoyed
attending Sunday night services. The absence of a father, however, led some of his followers into a
world of experimenting with drugs and running away. Their lost, rebellious souls found comfort in
Charles Manson who became a father figure to them.
2. The 1960s was the decade of the Civil Rights Movement and of counterculture. The Civil Rights
Movement saw the rise of social groups, like the Black Panther Party, who had had enough of being
racially discriminated and would conduct boycotts, sit ins, and marches in order to support their cause.
Counterculture consisted of young people, known as hippies, who revolted against government
agendas like the Vietnam War, and who wanted to live in a society that was based upon freedom and
love. Manson believed that there would be a race war between blacks and whites and that black people
would come on top. It became evident to Manson that Helter Skelter, the last final destructive war
among men on the face of the earth, was not coming and it was up to him to create it. So, Manson took
advantage of the counterculture happening in the 60 s to led young people into believing the world
would go to war and the only way to survive is to stick together.
3. In an era that sought love and peace, Manson was able to successfully manipulate the emotions of
young people. Manson began his recruitment in the hippie ridden area of Haight Ashbury, San
Francisco. There, Manson was able to croon his way into the minds of the young and vulnerable.
Upon recruitment, Manson would tell his followers, while they were under the influence of LSD, to
essentially erase everything they know about society and fill their minds with his philosophies because
he was the embodiment of Jesus Christ. His followers did as he said because most of

Park Avenue Money And The American Dream Analysis
Park Avenue: money, power, and the American dream is a documentary. In this documentary, both
Park Avenue in oh so wealthy Manhattan and Park Avenue which is 10 minutes away and located in
the Bronx are compared and contrasted. Why would they do this? Well, people who own apartments at
740 Park Avenue make up America s ruling class while the people who live on Park Avenue in the
South Bronx make up the poorest congressional district in the United States . In America, the rich
continue to become wealthier while the poor continue to struggle, dividing them into different
subcultures. Great isn t it? It all basically comes down to the socioeconomic status of these people. In
the opening of this documentary, the first shots are of the beautiful buildings, expensive cars, and even
white gloved doorman standing outside, all of the materialistic things. This is the life that most wish to
live. The media even will try to persuade people that this is the dream , the life that everyone works
towards and wants to live. In reality though, can most people even consider this goal attainable? This
is the question that director Alex Gibney visits and revisits multiple times within this documentary.
Light is shed on the gap between the rich and the poor and how the gap has been widened by the
political manipulations of the country s wealthiest citizens. 740 ... Show more content on

Reflection On Becoming An American Sign Language Interpreter
Hello, I m Kasey! I m 25 years old and attend Eastern Kentucky University. I m currently a senior and
in my last semester of the interpreter training program. I was raised on our family farm in the small
rural town of Hodgenville, Kentucky. I moved to different towns around the state until I finally settled
in Lexington, so I could pursue my hopes of becoming an American Sign Language interpreter. I
started learning ASL officially in 2010 and I continue to improve my skills on a daily basis any way I
can! For as long as I remember I have been fascinated with other languages spoken and signed.
Throughout my time at school I have taken Spanish, ASL, and some French. This past summer I was
fortunate enough to travel to France for an ASL history

The Complications Associated With Diabetes Mellitus ( Dm )
Abstract This paper explores the complications associated with Diabetes Mellitus (DM) including
altered tissue perfusion. Altered tissue perfusion occurs as a result of DM and can cause many
complications such as diabetic foot ulcers. Although altered tissue perfusion is not the only cause of
ulcers, it contributes to the acceleration and degeneration of tissue once an ulcer forms. This paper
also covers nursing diagnoses, individualized nursing interventions, patient and treatment goals as
well as evaluation of outcomes, associated with an actual patient. I was able to treat a patient with
hyperglycemia within my critical care clinical experience. It also covers the psychosocial concepts
that influence teaching readiness, growth and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Small arteries in diabetic patients experience changes due to increased atherosclerosis. Tissue
perfusion depends upon fasting plasma glucose and fasting insulin levels which are also dependent
upon how sensitive the patient is to the insulin. Increased permeability to large molecules such as
albumin is increased in diabetes, which can be associated with hyperglycemia (Levy, et al., 2008).
Studies have shown patients with type 2 diabetes experience decreased coronary flow which is related
to hemoglobin A1C and fasting plasma glucose levels (Marketou, et al., 2008). Mild insulin resistance
can also be associated with a decrease in coronary flow. In addition, a decrease in myocardial
perfusion in diabetic patients is related to decreased blood flow. An impairment in peripheral
circulation leads to ischemia, which is associated with pain in the lower legs called intermittent
claudication, which may result in lacerations of the feet (Levy, et al., 2008). Peripheral vascular
disease (PVD) can cause thrombosis of the arteries causing tissue death. Gangrene from Diabetes
Mellitus (DM) can lead to amputations beginning in the toes and moving into the foot (Lemone,
Burke, Bauldoff, 2011).
Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease that has become an epidemic as it effects more and more the
population each year. DM is a group of metabolic diseases, stemmed from the Endocrine systems,
characterized by hyperglycemia

A Note On The Bridge Loan
A bridge loan has nothing to with bridges; it is a short term loan from a bank or other lender. For any
business owner the knowledge of bridge loans may mean the difference between failure or success of
a business venture. Commercial bridge loans are also known as hard money loans and they are used
by business owners as a stop gap arrangement while a permanent loan is being secured. Even though
home owners sometimes use bridge financing between the time they purchase or sell their homes, it is
more frequently used by business people to refinance or purchase all types of commercial properties
including commercial real estate. Today commercial bridge loans are being used for financing a wide
range of commercial properties including hotels, factories, industrial properties, retail businesses and
commercial properties having a variety of uses. Essentially a bridge loan is used for bridging the
current gap between a buyer s immediate need for cash for closing a deal and the availability of a long
term loan package for financing the deal. The terms of bridge loans are short and vary between 12 to
36 months. After that period the long term lower cost permanent financing package, usually from the
same lender, takes its place. Like other types of loans bridge loans also have their benefits and
drawbacks. One of the major benefits of most bridge loans is that they are designed to close very
quickly. This makes them very useful when fast cash is required to close a commercial

Family Secrets In Alison Bechdel s Fun Home
As I read Fun Home, often reading chapters more than once, I had quite a few questions floating
around inside my head. Alison Bechdel dedicates her memoir to Mom, Christian, and John. We did
have a lot of fun, in spite of everything . I found it odd that she didn t include her father in this as well.
After all, without her father, she would not have had much of a story. He was the glue that held the
whole dysfunctional family together and it was his mysterious and depraved manner that compelled
me to turn each twisted page. Bechdel also mentions her family again in the acknowledgments at the
end of her book, Thanks to Helen, Christian, and John Bechdel for not trying to stop me from writing
this book . This brought up the question, what does her family think about her writing her
autobiography? Alison exposes many intensely personal family secrets in her ... Show more content on

The only thing I wasn t a huge fan of was Bechdel s exorbitant vocabulary throughout the entire 232
pages of her book. Reading through each chapter took a lot of stop and go on my part. I found myself
taking short breaks to define pretentious sentences Alison compounded in an attempt to elevate her
comic book autobiography to a higher intellectual level. For example, in chapter four, Alison
remembers a trip to New York City with her brothers and Roy. Alison recalls, And while I
acknowledge the absurdity of claiming a connection to that mythologized flashpoint...might not a
lingering vibration, a quantum particle of rebellion, still have hung in the humectant air (104). Another
example appears in chapter five, Alison states, And my father s life was a solipsistic circle of self,
from autodidact to autocrat to autocide (140). I m all for prodigious words (see Alison, I can use them
too) but maybe scale it back a little. I ve read and watched a few interviews she has given and she

Beak of the Finch Chapter Summaries

The Beak of the Finch Summary
The Beak of the Finch by Jonathan Weiner explores evolution through the most famous examples in
history the finches of the Galápagos Islands. Charles Darwin s theory of natural selection and the
process of evolution are applied directly to what scientists refer to as Darwin s Finches. Weiner
follows scientists Peter and Rosemary Grant as they study the finches in real time on the Galápagos.
Years of previous work, study and data is collected and analyzed. Different species of animals are
observed and explained throughout history. The Grants have one goal, and that is to find the origin of
the species, how organisms first began. They find that it really is about the survival of the ... Show

The Grants observed how the two ground finches preformed while attempting to obtain a seed called a
Caltrop. Caltrops naturally have spikes around the seed as a defense against intruders. The
Magnirostris did not have a hard time cracking open the Caltrop, with its hard, powerful jaw. However
the Fortis would have to put more effort into cracking a single seed. The regular Fortis would try for
six times and then give up, moving on to another seed. They will often move onto a different seed
without trying. However the Fortis with a beak that is slightly deeper beak would attempt to crack the
caltrop, and after a few tries, will succeed. The Grant s are capable of studying Darwin s theory of
natural selection in action, after gathering data from their colleagues, Peter Boag and Laurene
Ratcliffe, who would be their watch on Daphne Island. Peter and Laurene witnessed an important
event in natural selection, during a life or death situation with the finches. Though the two scientists
were anxious for rain, but they did not receive a single drop that season. Rain would mean
reproduction and fertility for the finches; however, the birds were faced with e horrible drought. Food
became scarce and the finch population declined. Easy seeds to obtain on the ground were nearly
gone. The seeds with tougher defenses, such as the caltrop, were usually untouched, since they were
hard to crack. The finches with inadequate beaks did not

The Heroine in A White Heron Essay
A White Heron was a beautiful story of the battles within a little girl in her
formative years in life. The story has a deeper meaning though, expressed in the
involvement of much symbolic representation. The author, Sarah Orne Jewett, paints a
vivid and descriptive image of the young heroine and her surroundings in the story.
I will try to primarily focus on the symbolism and representation in the story. I will also
mention the subtle references the artist made to the biggest struggle in a young persons
life self identification.
Sarah Jewett seemed to start the story off to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This showed how much diction and speech alone establishes
much of the story base within itself.
Much of the story was given to personification of nature. Nature being so
close and dear to her was primarily expressed in her affection for the cow and the birds.
The author practically made the large tree in the story come alive. One statement says,
...the sharp dry twigs caught and held her and scratched her like angry talons, the pitch
made her thin little fingers clumsy and stiff as she went round and round the tree s great
stem, higher and higher upward (SOJ pg.436). The description and life she brings to the
story makes the narrative very interesting and readable.
The next chapter in the story becomes very fluid and poetic. One prose states,
Half a mile from home, at the farthest edge of the woods, where the land was highest, a
great pine tree stood... (SOJ pg. 435). As the story begins to smooth out, it enters into a
spirit of representation. A man who wishes to dominate and destroy all that Sylvia holds
dear, enters her life as a desired lover. The romantic prose and ideas in the story illustrate
even better what the author is feeling about the gray eyed child . One verse states, The
woman s heart, asleep in the child, was vaguely thrilled

Doodle s Life In The Scarlet Ibis By James Hurst

James Hurst, Doodle and the scarlet ibis both experienced this moment in life. Doodle had a rare and
life threatening heart condition that he developed from birth. This condition restrains him from doing
the things he loves. The scarlet ibis also had a disability that confined its abilities.
Both the scarlet ibis and Doodle traveled a long way, just to end their life. Doodle s brother has pushed
him a long way so that he could succeed. In the story the narrator said, Once I had succeeded in

Both Doodle and the scarlet ibis s life concluded in a terrible way. In the story, the narrator explained
the death of the scarlet ibis, At that moment the bird began to flutter, but the wings were
uncoordinated, and amid much flapping and a spray of flying feathers, it tumbled down, bumping
through the limbs of the bleeding tree and landing at our feet with a thud. Its long, graceful neck
jerked twice into an S, then straightened out, and the bird was still, (Hurst ll. 298 302). Also, the
narrator specified Doodle s tragic death, He didn t answer, so I placed my hand on his forehead and
lifted his head. Limply, he fell backward onto the earth. He had been bleeding from the mouth, and his
neck and the front of his shirt were stained a brilliant red, (Hurst ll. 383 386). The scarlet ibis traveled
a long way from where it lived to escape from the storm. The bird began to die due to an injury. As a
result from that injury, the scarlet ibis s life terminated. Doodle s life also came to an end after he
traveled a long way. Doodle traveled a long way by learning many new things and developing many
skills that he was unable to do before. From being pushed so hard, his heart condition took over and

White Supremacy Research Paper
There is a surge in violence in America since Donald Trump became president of the United States,
people might think that this type of violence may have to do with someone from the Middle East
killing Americans. However this has not happened since September 11, 2001 because most terrorist
attacks have been mostly carried out by people who are white and Christian. This is the core value of
White Supremacy which is defined as a person who believes that the white race is inherently superior
to other races and that white people should have control over people of other race . ( Definition of
WHITE SUPREMACY,2018) by Some people fail to call out white supremacist terrorism in the

problem is that people fail to call it terrorism. Ever since Charlottesville people have been more

enforcement and the Federal government has to begin to combat terrorism especially Right wing
terrorism and white supremacist terrorism. Education is probably the most important key to fighting
this type of violence and parents should teach their children how to respect and treat another person
who seems vulnerable to this type of community. In addition important to stand up when you see

Social phobia may be presented differently by individuals of other cultures. Suk Choo
(1997) found that individuals from East Asian cultures develop anxiety related more to offending
others, compared with individuals from Western cultures, who develop anxiety related to fear of being
scrutinized by others. Culture and ethnicity are important variables in group therapy because they set
up norms and positions of power, and can both enhance and distance a group
(Gladding, 2012). Groups often replicate cultural norms members practice outside of the group.
Within the group, members can use their cultural differences to enhance group growth and
effectiveness, and apply what they have experienced and learned to their lives outside of group
(i.e., social microcosm; Gladding, 2012). Suggestions for future research to help increase social
microcosm include incorporating more males and cultural/ethic variations of group participants and
leaders, running groups specifically for ethnic minorities, and using non Western group therapies for
multicultural individuals with social phobia.

Through his depiction of the Carpenter family and of the stressful lifestyle of a performer, Haynes
shows the audience that although many mental illnesses, such as anorexia, are viewed as internally
driven, the root cause of these conditions is almost entirely external. Throughout the film, the
Carpenter family is characterized as an overprotective unit with very high and strict standards. For
example, the parents instituted certain policies such as making their children live at home until the age
of twenty six. They were also extremely hesitant to allow Karen to receive treatment in solitude,

  • 2. Learning Goals For Students Is A Taxing Task, But It Is... Planning a curriculum that meets the need of students can be a taxing task, but it is necessary for student success. Creating a cohesive unit entails breaking down the standards and developing essential questions that will drive student learning and understanding. In addition to breaking down the standards, it is important to set clear learning goals for students so they are able to accomplish the learning set in the standards. The best way to set clear learning goals for students is to use the Backwards Planning Model and be clear on the standards that will be taught. Carol Ann Tomlinson and Jay McTighe (2006) believe the deliberate use of the backward design for planning courses, units, and individual lessons results in more appropriate assessments and more purposeful teaching (p. 27). When we as teachers know where our students are going, we can convey that information to them in a way that meets their learning needs. A clear understanding of the standards brought on by backwards planning will lead to clear learning goals for students. Importance of Identifying and Communicating Learning Goals In order for students to gain the learning needed to be successful in the classroom, learning goals must be translated in a way that is clear and transferable. Students learn best when they know where they are going. McTighe (2010) explains the most successful teaching begins with clarity about important learning outcomes and about the evidence that will show ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Greek Yoga Much of the science of yoga was gained from watching nature and her creatures. Ancient saints and sages noticed that animals with low respiratory rates, like the tortoise, but also like the elephant, and the other animals listed in the chart below lived longer life spans with a controlled, long breath. One can also notice, though, that as the speed of respiration increases, the life span of the animal shortens. Slowly it dawns that we are not the master of our minds but actually the slaves of our minds. There is failure, there is frustration, there is anger, there is plain discomfort when we resort to Mauna in sincere earnest. The mind after all is not as obedient as what we thought it was. This makes us humble bereft of natural pride and arrogance, generous and leads us to take a humane approach to other people s shortcomings. When we stop giving the mind what it likes and wants i.e. when we practice Mauna, we will realize that our own mind is not any better than anyone else s mind... We thought that we are super nice and calm people, but not really..... We thought that we are patient and compassionate people, but not really... We thought that we are loving and unselfish people, but not really... Thus, the practice of Mauna enables to see the truth of our own minds. It makes us more compassionate and selfless, perform without any attachment, selfish desire and expectation. Our thoughts, speech and actions get purified. The purpose of Mauna is to turn our attention inward. As we tune into our inner space we are able to identify and stop relating to what is called excess personality or externalized ego . We begin relating to our Essential Self or Soul. It is our Essential Self that accesses our intuition and finds the Infinite within. • 4. Gender Stereotypes In Mean Girls Mean Girls is a comedy, yet accurate portrayal of the body image issues that high school girls face today. This movie is more than just high school clique and popularity; it is critical representation of the boundaries women in our society are not allowed to cross. Societal monstrous expectation of female bodies has led to a problematic matter of self acceptance. Berreby extends this view in his essay Rituals and Traditions: It Takes a Tribe where he mentions the idea of us vs. them in which he states that society has created the idea that if one does not act in a certain way, they are automatically considered them . Furthermore, it is essential to acknowledge that stereotypes found in movies like Mean Girls, although a classic Hollywood movie, provokes a critical view of women and contributes to perpetuate traditional gender stereotypes as it reflects dominant social values. The scene that best represents this idea is where the Plastics are at the Old Orchard Mall when they see that Jason and Taylor hanging out. This is when Regina steps up for her cliques and decides to hurt Taylor s reputation for hanging out with Jason because Jason should only be with Plastics. So, she could keep the status and power of Plastics. Following that event, the Plastics and Cady go over at Regina s house where Cady meets Regina s abnormal mother. They go to Regina s room and this is when the Plastics judge their bodies while looking at themselves in the mirror and Cady seems to be shocked by the number of flaws they point out in their selves. At this point, the camera shows the social distance between Cady and the Plastics separating Cady from the Plastics as Cady finds it hard to believe that perfect girls like the Plastics can find flaws in them. Throughout the movie, the group is known as Plastics to characterize them as plastic figures because plastic figures do not have flaws. In reality, the Plastics are constantly critiquing their body even though students see them as being perfect. Cady is new to this, I used to think there was just fat and skinny. But apparently there s lots of things that can be wrong with your body. Cady s use of this dialogue addresses the idea of how it is impossible to become the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Pro Prison Recidivism Recidivism is the act of re incarceration for inmates upon release of prison or jail and return with a new conviction. One who partakes in recidivism is referred to as a recidivist. The Massachusetts Department of Correction (MA DOC) defines a recidivist as any criminally sentenced inmate released to the street from MA DOC jurisdiction who is re incarcerated in a Massachusetts state, county or a federal facility for a new criminal sentence. (mass.gov). In FY 2014 it costs about $53,040.87 to house an inmate in Massachusetts and with an average of 10,000 inmates incarcerated or in pre release programs that s an astonishing $530,408,700 (a little over 1/2 billion dollars) of taxpayer dollars funding incarceration in Massachusetts. Also, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These movements can be classified as a reform movement. Reform movements pursue changes that will implement the existing value scheme more adequately. Reform because the pro prison reform initiatives aim at allocating funding from prisons and jails to education, rehabilitation, and job skill programs that actually save the society billions of dollars a year and educate felons so they are most likely not to reoffend. Most of the recidivists are of African American or Hispanic ethnic background and between the ages of 17 25 and lack education and or skills needed to meet our labor force. With the cost of an average inmate at $53,000 in MA versus the $20,000 average cost of participating in rehab programs aimed at deterring criminally aimed lives. The clash over resources and values is what struck this growing social change for recidivism. Resources being monetary factor in incarceration and the value of prison. We incarcerate and place people in the same environment we are trying to release them from and they have no institutional programs aimed at solving this issue of recidivism. The value as pointed out by the federal government is the notions that if the government doesn t start hiring felons or ex cons how do they suppose that others will take on the same practice. No one left behind is the model of the USA and is the main reason that we cant outcast our felons. President Obama issued an executive order to combat this social problem demanding that all federal agencies are prohibited of asking for ones criminal record before the offer of employment. Only when a job is offered, is the time when a felon is supposed to disclose such information. This will lead us into a new era of reducing recidivism as a society and lower crime rate in urban areas of the States. • 6. Bust Size Persuasive Essay Many women yearn for larger breasts. While a breast augmentation, or a boob job, can certainly get the job done, it is often expensive. Unfortunately, many women simply cannot afford the cost of surgery. If you are one of them, you might be wondering if there are any other options available that can help to increase your bust size. The good news is, yes. There are several non surgical methods for achieving a larger bust, including these three: 1. Fat Injections A newer alternative to breast augmentations, fat injections are surprisingly effective. While they cannot increase your bust size by several cups, it can help make them larger. As you might imagine, this procedure involves sucking fat from another area of your body and then injecting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, you cannot go from an A cup to a B cup. The results are also not permanent, so you will need to have the procedure repeated at some point in the future. Still, it s a good option for those who want a small increase without invasive surgery. 2. Breast Lift Another non invasive option is a breast lift. Although it doesn t actually increase the size of your breast, it does make them perkier and this can make them appear larger. For this procedure, Botox is injected in to the breast muscle. The Botox paralyzes the muscle, which helps the breasts become perkier. Although a breast lift is very effective, it isn t permanent. Like facial Botox, it will need to be repeated several times; as Botox typically only lasts a few months. So you should keep this in mind if you are considering it. 3. Vacuum Bra Vacuum bras are also another method for achieving larger breasts. As the name suggests, these bras use suction to help give you larger breasts. Wearers put the bra on, turn it on, and let it suck the breast tissue in. Over time, this helps to create larger breasts. While it might sound odd, it is surprisingly effective for a small boost. However, results are not quick and the bra must be worn every day for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Essay about Book Summary The Bible Among the Myths INTRODUCTION The book opens with an introduction comparing the study of the Old Testament and the other religions and cultures of other peoples from the Ancient Near East. Scholars used to believe that the Old Testament was unique among other beliefs in the Ancient Near East but they now view the Old Testament as identical to other religions of its day and time. The author also discusses the vital philosophical distinction between essence and accident. When removing an essential feature of an object, it will cease to be itself but if you remove an accidental feature of an object, there will be no change in the object s essential being. The author also introduces the characteristics of myth. 1) That human beings have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the groups of definitions falls under the category of the historical philosophical definition. The first definition of myth in this category is the etymological definition. This definition stresses the falsity of the deity or event or thing being described. The second is the sociological theological definition where the truth is seen as relative and something is considered true if it is seen as true by others. The third is the literary definition. These kinds of definitions claim to make no value judgment about their material. The events are not seen as right or wrong and the narrative makes use of symbolism to express it meaning. The many definitions of a myth have one thing in common; they all give to the philosophy of continuity. Continuity assumes that all things are not only related to one another, but are literally one another in some fashion. Overall it can be said that whatever the Bible is, whether symbol or literal, true or false, it is not myth. CHAPTER THREE CONTINUITY: THE BASIS OF MYTHICAL THINKING As the title of this chapter is Continuity: The Basis of Mythical Thinking the author gives further details about what he touched on at the end of chapter two. • 8. Sccaffold Scenes In The Scarlet Letter In The Scarlet Letter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne, three major scaffold scenes piece the novel together. Hester Prynne plays a crucial part in these scenes. She mounts the scaffold in the first scene for public humiliation for the sin she commits. The second scaffold scene is where Reverend Dimmesdale tries to confess his sin at night. The Puritans believe that darkness is evil, so they suspect something is wrong with Dimmesdale. In the third scene Dimmesdale confesses what he has done wrong, he falls out dead now that the burden is gone from his life. Hester Prynne and Reverend Dimmesdale commit a sin that holds a weight on their life; however their wrongs are the glue that holds the novel s morals together. In the first scaffold scene Hester Prynne is introduced as a beautiful women who commits an ugly sin. Hester is now known for committing adultery. Standing on the scaffold is one of her very minor punishments. It states, she ascended a flight of wooden steps, and thus displayed to the surrounding multitude (Hawthorne 37) . Hester Prynne walks up the stairs gracefully not ashamed of her scarlet letter. The scarlet letter is another punishment she receives but she also flaunts the letter and is unashamed of it. Hawthorne says, When the young women the mother of the child stood fully revealed before the crowd, it seemed to be her first impulse to clasp the infant closely to her bosom (Hawthorne 35) . • 10. The Interaction Between Clergy And Laity In Richard IV The interaction between clergy and laity is also discussed a fair bit in the subtext of the source. William Longchamps, bishop of Ely, and chancellor in Richard s stead, took castles and titles away from the men who held them and hand[ed] them over to foreigners and unknown men (31). This shows that the hold he has over the land with the king gone (i.e. clergy could have a firm grasp on the government). The only other person to do this is John (the king s brother), who takes the castles away from the men William assigned and returned them to their rightful castellans. It shows that the power held by William and John to be about equal, since they both do the same things. Next, the clergy and laity were against the chancellor who was hated ... This illustrates that not all monks or monasteries followed their respective Rule fully. Some might have needed to trade, to confer blessings, or pray in the church that the laity attend putting them in close proximity to the laity. Monks also elected their future bishop without the assistance of the secular clergy (57). This elucidates that the secular clergy generally got involved in the elections of clergymen, possibly putting in their own men for the position, demonstrating that the secular clergy had little to no say in the election, even when they were involved. The secular clergy opposed him [the chosen bishop], the monks obtained him (57). Lastly, the bishop of Chester out of hate for religious orders cast the monks out of Coventry (69). The nostalgic tone presents the audience with Harwood s perspective of the unyielding process of time and the inevitability of death. This notion is emphasised through parallelism; we pick our last fruits , hence utilising showing the reader of the organic discourse which to presents the comparison of the ripeness of fruit to the infinite life cycle of birth and decay. Furthermore, inevitability of death is illuminated through past tense of the self reflective question Who can be what you were? implying that persona s father has ceased to exist. Through the character of the child, it is clearly evident that the poem Father and Child explores the challenging ideas of nostalgia and mortality making the texts valued in the eyes of the ... With that volunteer force there are rules and regulations that need to be followed because serving our country is a privilege. The Don t Ask, Don t Tell policy is claiming that even though it may be considered an infringement on human rights and freedom of expression, it protects the rights of the rest of the military and opens a loophole for gay men and women to serve in the armed forces. There are claims that allowing gays and lesbians into the service openly about their sexual orientation is violation to all service members privacy. Officially, military commanders and investigators are required to respect service members privacy and are not allowed to investigate personnel for homosexuality. This causes interference with the ability for them to do their job performance effectively. The United States is not the only ones who use the DADT ban. There are several militaries all over the country that has experienced this ban at one point. For example, they are Australia, Britain; Canada, and Israel just to name a few. Animals are beaten and starved to death almost every day. Millions of animals die each year because of brutal and insensitive owners. Most people don t understand the feelings that animals have and honestly I don t understand it either but what I do understand is when I see an animal that has been abused, I can tell the way it acts toward people and their surroundings. • 15. Robert Browning and the Power of the Dramatic Monologue Form Robert Browning and the Power of the Dramatic Monologue Form The dramatic monologue form, widely used by Victorian poets, allows the writer to engage more directly with his reader by placing him in the role of listener. Robert Browning utilised the form to a famously profound effect, creating a startling aspect to his poetry. In poems such as Porphyria s Lover, and My Last Duchess, for example, Browning induces a feeling of intimacy by presenting the reader as the confidant to the narrator s crimes; in Soliloquy of the Spanish Cloister, the reader is more a witness to the narrator s increasing instability. Thus, Browning is able to use the dramatic monologue form both to expose the narrator s frailties, and as a channel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The envy stems from a materialistic fixation similar to that of the Bishop in The Bishop Orders His Tomb at Saint Praxed s Church, whose holiness is undermined with an obsession for an extravagant resting place. Vanity, saith the preacher, vanity! declares the Bishop in the poem s opening line, setting the tone for the rest of the monologue. The dispute identified is one between Kosovo s Albanians or Kosovar, and the Serbians. The reasons for the dispute stem from several issues, each can be attributed to increasing the intractability of the conflict. The issues that have been identified stem from ethnic issues, or political. In the Kosovo region the ethnic issues stem from the vast differences between the Albanians and the Serbs, this is attributed to other issues such as rising ethnic tensions, and racism between the two groups. This suggests that a strong attachment between the Serbs and Kosovo is still present when this quote was presented, this suggestion, if true would strongly contribute to the intractability of the conflict. This disagreement between the two groups is an example of the issues that surround Kosovo, and how these two groups disagree at the base level. If neither party can agree on an issue so simple as who was there first, it suggests that further issues will arise, contributing more to intractability. The concept of kinetics was applied by using rate to figure out the answer to the guiding question. Rate laws display the mathematical expression of the rate of a chemical reaction and the concentration of its reactants. Rate laws are expressed in regards to the three types of reaction orders: 0, 1st, and 2nd. In rate laws, reaction orders are expressed as exponents and showcase the effect of reactants concentrations on the rate of a chemical reaction. The rate constant is displayed as k and represents a certain reaction. Furthermore, the three rate laws are as written, rate= k for zero order, rate= k[A] for first order, and rate= k[A]2 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The actual rate law was rate= k[CV+]1[OH ] 1 with an overall order of 2. This was concluded by plotting all three reaction order types in separate graphs and determining the straightest graph; then calculating concentrations in order to determine the rate constants, pseudo k, and rate laws. For example, M1V1=M2V2 led to [OH ] by calculating (10 ml) (0.10 M) = (20 ml) to equal 0.05 M of OH. The actual rate constant was found by taking the negative slope of the first order graph (0.0055 s 1) over the concentration of OH (0.05 M), which equated to 0.11 M 1s 1. With this being said, CV decolorizes at a first order rate law whose graph yields the straightest line containing the highest R2 value (0.9973) closest to 1. Lastly, comparing the findings of the data from figures 1 4 to other groups date, resulted in discrepancies. Other groups claimed that CV would decolorize at a reaction order of zero because it s graph yielded the highest R2 value. In relation to this, other groups findings could have been a result of certain error such as: not having the colorimeter calibrated once the reaction mixture was prepared, using inaccurate equations to graph data, and not using graduated cylinders to obtain precise ... • 21. Theme Of Friendship In The Outsiders A Story About Friendship, Courage, and Empathy The functions of intellect are insufficient and useless if you are without courage, love, friendship, compassion, and empathy, says a quote by Dean Koontz. Throughout S.E. Hinton s book The Outsiders, there are many themes that she conveys in the book as she narrates the experiences of a greaser named Ponyboy who is a member of the Social group (Socs). Ponyboy meets many people and witnesses many difficult situations throughout the book. This inspirational book teaches the reader crucial lessons that are very important for everyone, even if their lives are not anything like Ponyboy s. Three important themes in the book include friendship, courage and empathy. Friendship is mandatory to be able to trust and rely on one another. Hinton writes about troubles that Ponyboy goes through and how his friends have a great impact on these experiences. For example, Johnny killed Bob who was a member of the Socs, because he saw that Bob along with other Socs were trying to drown Ponyboy. He knew that he d be in trouble, and he could have just left then and there. Instead, he killed Bob because they were hurting Ponyboy. Another situation where the author shows the theme of friendship is when Ponyboy got jumped and his whole gang came to help him. They were always ready to help a member of their group. Also, the situation when the church was on fire and Dally went to try and save Johnny, shows friendship as well. In chapter 6, Jerry, who Ponyboy thinks is one of the school s teachers, says, We think the towheaded kid is going to be all right. He burned one arm pretty badly, though, trying to drag the other kid out of the window, (pg. 95). This tells us that Dally, who at first wouldn t help the children in the church, helped Johnny get out because he was his friend and he cared about him. This shows how Dally demonstrates his friendship. Courage is crucial to be able to overcome obstacles and help others. Courage is a big theme in The Outsiders. For example, Ponyboy showed a lot of courage when he decided to fight in the rumble. He wasn t in good shape as he had lost weight and was very tense. • 22. The Negative Outcomes of Homeschooling Many people think that homeschooling is a better way to educate their children, but they never stop and think about the negative outcomes it can bring. Homeschooling has a more negative outcome than public or private schooling. This is because in many cases parents do not have enough knowledge about a certain subject or have enough time to home school their children. Another reason why homeschooling is not the best choice is because children would not grow up as social as other kids who attend a public or private school. Last but not least, one more reason is the high cost of homeschooling. These are only some reasons why homeschooling is not a healthy choice for all the children. Parents have a huge responsibility when they make the tough decision to home school their children. This is not a simple job for parents to decide whether or not to home school. When parents make a decision to home school their children, they have to keep in mind that it takes a large amount of time as well as dedication on both sides. This is because parents have to be sure that their children are doing their work and not gazing off. Children need to have in mind that they would have to manage how to schedule their timing correctly. In addition, this might make it harder to manage work and other household tasks for parents. They have to not only be in charge of their children and how they re doing their work but also they have to be responsible for their jobs and all the households ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. Nietzsche s Philosophy On The Priestly Figure Friedrich Nietzsche puts forth the image of the priestly figure in what seems to be a positive and negative manner. Priests are the greatest haters in the world but they are also the most intelligent (p.17). Nietzsche s position, according to me, seems ambivalent due to the context in which he refers to them is altering. There is no clear light in which the priestly figure is shown to be inherently positive or negative. In this paper, I will bring in his claims, explicate Nietzsche s standpoint on the priestly figure and how they are ambiguous as they are not thoroughly positive or negative. To begin with, Nietzsche was a relentless critic of morality and questioned the concept of good and bad. Similarly, he proposed a question on whether the self is an affirmation of good or negation of evil. He establishes that good/evil and good/bad come from two distinct origins, where the two good s radically oppose each other. For Nietzsche, this is what seems like the slave morality, which says that evil equates to what is good and the master morality that equates bad to good. Slave morality proposes that if you are evil then I am good while the master morality says if I am good, then you bad. This is essentially who the priest is. They are those who feel powerless in situations where there is physical power present. A venomous hatred is then manifested for the powerful as they are supposed to be spiritually powerful people. Following the treaty of Neuilly, the Bulgarian Army was limited to just 20,000 men and was ordered to pay reparations of £400 million. Under the articles, Thrace (a geographical and historical area in southeast Europe, now split between Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey) was granted to Greece. What s more, Bugalria lost its admission to the Aegean Sea, which it had achieved in 1913 in the first Balkan war. The newly formed kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes (Kingdom of Yugoslavia after 1929) stretched its eastern borders and gained the Macedonian territory. Southern Doruja was also lost to Romania. This treaty was not effective because Bulgaria did not follow it through until 75% was decreased from it. Upon learning of the terms of the Treaty of Neuilly, the Bulgarian people were furious. However, they were powerless and couldn t do anything to change the conditions. When World War Two broke out, Bulgaria sided with Nazi Germany and regained all the land taken from her by the Treaty of Neuilly. Students will be tested to make sure that the schools are adequately teaching them the information they should know. In 53% of American schools, which receive direct Federal Government financial support because they have large numbers of low income students, students can now transfer to another school or receive free tutoring if their school fails for two years in a row to improve the test scores of its students (Bacon, 2003). • 34. Death In The Woods A Critical Analysis of Death in the Woods Death in the Woods is a story about a woman that lives a hard life. When she was a girl she worked for a German farmer and his wife. When she was a little older she married a man named Jake Grimes thinking she would get away from the crude work of the farmer. She soon finds out that life doesn t get any better for her than it already was. Later in the story she is found dead by a rabbit hunter in the woods (Cleveland). Death in the Woods seemingly concerns a farm woman, Mrs.Grimes, who, only in her early forties, seems old and probably psycotic. A person could then appropriate a single one of these truths and try to go by it. That is when he or she would become a grotesque. The stories in Winesburg, Ohio do grapple with Anderson s intended theme, and a story such as Hands clearly illustrates what he means by grotesque (Ellis 2). The hands belong to Wing Biddlebaum, formerly Adolph Myers, a teacher in a Pennsylvania village who was beaten and run out of town for caressing boys. Anderson Cleveland 4 is oblique about Wing s homosexuality, for the thrust of the story. In the story Death in the Woods, as a girl, Mrs. Grimes was sexually abused her German owner (Doneskey 1 3). The Philosopher provides a more subtle illustration of grotesque and introduces the idea that a grotesque need not be pitiable or tragic; in fact, he can be wildly humorous as demonstrated at the beginning of the story with the philosopher s description (Doneskey 1 3). Anderson was interested in the development of the artist type, the inner desires of repressed people, the failure of people to communicate their true selves; the way conventions and tradition have twisted and distorted the individual (Doneskey 1 3). • 35. Social Class In Great Expectations By Charles Dickens Through the Social Class Society has developed the concept of social class, to categorized people into different groups based on economic, political, and socio economic status. This concept has made it difficult for the middle and lower class to succeed. Charles Dickens had a sense of writing during the Victorian Era as it sought to represent a large and comprehensive social world, with a variety of classes. Novels during this time were made to be realistic and Charles Dickens excelled at doing that and exceeded expectations. One of his most famous novels, Great Expectations was set in early Victorian Era when great social changes were sweeping the nation. Charles Dickens s Great Expectations tells the story of Pip, an English orphan who rises to wealth, deserts his true friends, and becomes humbled by his own arrogance. This piece, and a couple other of his pieces including one of his short novels, George Silverman s Explanation and a poem classifying the rich, The Fine Old English Gentleman developed a concept of social class. Throughout each of the three pieces, the social class is somehow brought up, whether that being a short snippet, or the way it can change someone throughout the classifications of the social class. However, this is not true, because as mentioned above, the taste for Chinese landscape motifs was already seen in the 13th century. It would be more appropriate to see the works of Bihzād s figural paintings rather than landscape paintings to define the Bihzād style. According to the one of the contemporary historical records, Bābor nāma, Bābor wrote Bihzād was good at portraits of beard man. The statement by Bābor means people who lived in the same period thought Bihzād s strong point was drawing figures. Figure 1 is the portrait of Dervish, which is attributed to Bihzād. The brush work is similar to the techniques of Chinese nail head rat tail (釘頭鼠尾in Chinese) (see fig 2). Compared to classical style of Persian painting (see fig 3), the depiction of hairs, mustaches and beard are so fine. The shadowing and the realistic depiction of ears, nose and mouth are also rarely seen in the classical Persian painting. The Chinese derived features of this painting (fig 1) mean, in this period, Persian painters imitated the works of Chinese paintings. And by doing so, they gradually introduced some traces of Chinese painting techniques to Persian painting. The influence of Chinese painting had great impact before the Timurid dynasties, but according Sugimura, Persian painters started to borrowing the physiognomy for the first time in this period. The members of Charles Manson s cult family were Leslie Van Houten, Bobby Beausoleil, Paul Watkins, Catherine Gypse Share, Mary Brunner, Susan Atkins, Linda Kasabain, Steve Grogan, Patricia Krenwinkel, Charles Watson, and Squeaky Fromme. Almost all of the members came from middle working class families and were generally happy people. Some of the members were also very religious like Charles Watson, for example, was a leader of a church youth group and enjoyed attending Sunday night services. The absence of a father, however, led some of his followers into a world of experimenting with drugs and running away. Their lost, rebellious souls found comfort in Charles Manson who became a father figure to them. 2. The 1960s was the decade of the Civil Rights Movement and of counterculture. The Civil Rights Movement saw the rise of social groups, like the Black Panther Party, who had had enough of being racially discriminated and would conduct boycotts, sit ins, and marches in order to support their cause. Counterculture consisted of young people, known as hippies, who revolted against government agendas like the Vietnam War, and who wanted to live in a society that was based upon freedom and love. Manson believed that there would be a race war between blacks and whites and that black people would come on top. It became evident to Manson that Helter Skelter, the last final destructive war among men on the face of the earth, was not coming and it was up to him to create it. So, Manson took advantage of the counterculture happening in the 60 s to led young people into believing the world would go to war and the only way to survive is to stick together. 3. In an era that sought love and peace, Manson was able to successfully manipulate the emotions of young people. Manson began his recruitment in the hippie ridden area of Haight Ashbury, San Francisco. There, Manson was able to croon his way into the minds of the young and vulnerable. Well, people who own apartments at 740 Park Avenue make up America s ruling class while the people who live on Park Avenue in the South Bronx make up the poorest congressional district in the United States . For any business owner the knowledge of bridge loans may mean the difference between failure or success of a business venture. Commercial bridge loans are also known as hard money loans and they are used by business owners as a stop gap arrangement while a permanent loan is being secured. Even though home owners sometimes use bridge financing between the time they purchase or sell their homes, it is more frequently used by business people to refinance or purchase all types of commercial properties including commercial real estate. Today commercial bridge loans are being used for financing a wide range of commercial properties including hotels, factories, industrial properties, retail businesses and commercial properties having a variety of uses. Essentially a bridge loan is used for bridging the current gap between a buyer s immediate need for cash for closing a deal and the availability of a long term loan package for financing the deal. The terms of bridge loans are short and vary between 12 to 36 months. After that period the long term lower cost permanent financing package, usually from the same lender, takes its place.
