Negative Effects Of Cultural Globalization
The Negative Points of Cultural Globalization
Ji Eun Kim (Stacey)
ILSC Toronto
Cultural globalization has negative aspects because of cultural toadyism, cultural uniformity, and its
political influence.
I. Cultural globalization causes cultural toadyism. A. Small countries may blindly follow the culture
of powerful nations.
1. The small and weak countries will follow powerful countries cultures, even it is not good. B.

Green Mountain Coffee Roaster Essay
Assignment 4 4 Shane Rittenhouse Acct.310 Ann Remely 6/5/13 Issue During the fourth quarter of
2010 Green Mountain Coffee Roasters had some accounting irregularities become known to the
public. Green Mountain s problems all started from how they recognized income, though
intercompany inventory and third party vendor. After the SEC inquiry, Green Mountain s
accounting irregularities spanned three fiscal years and three fiscal quarters. Starting with fiscal
year 2007 and running through the third fiscal quarter of 2010. In total Green Mountain had five
areas of their financial statements in which they did not follow GAAP. The first issue overstated

had a net overstated income by $700,000 dollars during the fiscal years. Since Green Mountain
has taken the Razor and Blade sales method, this is an important violation for their investors
(Mchugh, 2012). The Razor and Blade sales method is where Gillette brand razors are sold at cost
but the company makes its money when the consumer buys the blade. For Green Mountain they are
selling the coffee maker at cost, while they hold the patent rights to the K cup that fits into the
coffee maker. The last FASB rule violates is 605 25 25 or Topic revenue recognition, Subtopic
multiple element arrangements, Section recognition (FASB ASC 605 25 25). This violation is
from Green Mountain not having the correct cumulative revenue recognition of royalties from a
third party vendor. Green Mountain had overstated their income by $1 million dollar form this
error, once again overstating the net income of the company. Analysis Green Mountain was known

Social Class And Its Effect On Children s Life
On October 23th 1995 at a still undisclosed location, a sniper shot my father. He had been in the
marine of 7 years and a decorated officer and that is everything I ve been told about him to this
day. My mom doesn t mention him and I know none of his relative. Growing up without a parent
has a drastic effect on any child s life. The few people I ve talked to about this often ask why I have
never asked my motherabout him and that is hugely due to the circumstances of his death and in
some ways social class. Military kids aren t supposed to cry over loved ones, but honor their
memory and respect their service. We are encouraged to stand strong and often told when younger
to make them proud.
Our social class had a lot to do with how I learned to handle this as an officer s son whose mother
is also a high ranking member of the government that pressure to maintain composure was
doubled. Growing up it was often me who was chosen to speak at different memorial and veteran
events. I was poised as somebody other kids who lost parents to look up to, it was up to me to
show them how to act. I was taught young that your actual feelings don t matter only the face
you put on to the world. If I m being honest a second reason I ve never asked is I don t have an
interest in learning more it would only serve to make him real as it is now he is more a
mythological figure. In addition to this the fact that I m a male changed my experiences, in the
military traditional gender roles are

Essay on Zimbabwe Should Not Have To Suffer This Way
Zimbabwe Should Not Have To Suffer This Way
In recent years, Zimbabwe has been prone to increasing violence as a result of a corrupt
government. There have been many instances reported to HRWO (Human rights watch
organization) of personal accounts where landowners and workers alike have been subjected to
beatings, pillaging, threats, and overall persecution. These acts of terrorism are the products of a
military coup that is currently in power called the Zanu PF and orchestrated by the veterans of the
war for Zimbabwe s Independence.
The world must not stand by and watch these crimes against humanity take place with a complacent

The election was a landslide and the days of a white owned tyrannical government was over, or at
least that s what the native people were led to believe.
One British condition in the Lancaster Agreements was the ensured protection of white farm
owners for the first ten years of the new government. These conditions simply said were willing
seller, willing buyer meaning that land would not be acquired forcefully from any already
functional farms. After the term of the agreement was up, the government had control of
redistributing the land to the people. For the first ten years redistribution was slow and most of the
land was still in the hands of the white commercial farmers. During this period President Mugabe
took out enormous loans from the World Bank and invested it in institutions designed to fit the
luxurious standards of the elite. They awarded the majority of usable land to the elite of
Zimbabwe, while the majority of the country was rapidly growing poorer, and paying for the
government s outstanding loans through a process called Economic Structural Adjustment
Program. This is a program the World Bank and the IMF (International Monetary Fund) setup to

The Stanislavski s System Essay
The Stanislavski s System
Konstantin Sergeivich Stanislavski was born in 1863 and dies in 1938. He was a Russian actor,
director and acting trainer. In 1898 together with Nemirovich Danchenko, he founded the Moscow
Art Theatre.
=====================================================================
Stanislavski believed that theatre was about working together, he recognized the need to improve
the theatre practice of his time and saw actors needed methods to help them act well and
consistently. To solve these problems he developed what was later to be called The System. It was
a rational process of techniques and exercises designed to train and develop the actor s skills. The

The idea was to help them perceive and understand the logical development of the text and find the
core of the play. These large units were then given titles which defined their objectives and were
then sub divided again into smaller units for ease of scene and character development in rehearsal.
The superobjective, when deciding on the superobjective the cast simply had to come up with a
simple sentence that summed up the significance of the play as a whole, taking into account their
interpretations of the authors intentions. Stanislavski believed that this helped the actors focus on a
key idea, which they were all contributing to through their role in the performance. Therefor he
believed it was important that all of the actors involved in the production to know and agree on the
superobjective.
The method of physical actions, This idea grew from Stanislavski s feeling that his actors were
being overwhelmed by too much character and plot detail at an early stage of the rehearsal
process. He believed this led them to try to hard, which resulted in physical and mental tension.
In the last five years of his life Stanislavski explored a different approach to working on a
production, in which the company began by telling the story of a play s plot through its main
physical actions. The next stage was to create a more detailed version that was based on an
understanding of

Violent Protest In Martin Luther King
Martin Luther King was a civil rights activist who believed in the liberty and justice for all.
During his life, Dr. King lead peaceful civil rights protest, preached the word of God, and was
imprisoned. Dr. King advocates for nonviolent responses to injustice and believes that protestors
must be willing to go to jail for what they believe in. In addition, Dr. King preaches that a violent
response to unjust treatment is wrong and one should not practice it, a preaching that ultimately led
to his death. Overall, Dr. King favored the use of nonviolent tactics over violent ones.
Mohandas K. Gandhi was an African philosopher who was also an attorney. During his time,
Gandhi challenged the apartheid system. The apartheid system basically was a form of
institutionalized racism that put the whites (the Dutch and the British) above the brown (Indian
workers) and the black (the descendants of the African natives). In addition, it made brown and
black people to be considered second class citizens , even though some of held prestigious jobs.
Gandhi was angered by the apartheid system that he constantly protested it. In fact, it is what lead
him to develop his non violent protest philosophy. This philosophy became known as satyagraha,
which translates to Love Force or Soul Force . Gandhi believed that satyagraha was the way to
oppose unfair treatment and that violent protest would just leave people wounded or even worse,
dead. The Satyagraha chapter in the book states While in

The Navigation of Christopher Columbus and the Age of...
Before beginning the research for this work, I had planned on producing a paper and presentation
which detailed the history of open sea navigation and the difficulties and dangers which would have
faced sailors and seamen during the Age of Discovery. My premise was that we, living in the
twentifirst century, had lost touch with the reality of just how hazardous a voyage such as that
undertaken by Columbuswas. I had hoped to be able to capturefor the listener and reader a sense of
wonder at the bold willingness to risk life and limbthat was demonstrated by the explorers of this
era as they left the safety of the waters and oceans that they knew, to challenge the unknown. I had
wanted to capture that feeling of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Columbus voyage to the West was a risk only in the sense that all sea voyages undertaken at this
time placed those sailing at the mercy of the winds, the waves, and the weather, with the added
possibility that either pirates or Muslims would be encountered. Navigation, and the navigator s
understanding of the world, had by this time developed to the point where Columbus was not
stepping blindly into the abyss, but rather was choosing a course of action based on what was
believed to be sure knowledge.
The histories of navigation and sailing are intertwined in such a way that for the purpose of this
study they cannot be separated. Also a part of this story are what I believe to be some intriguing
possibilities regarding the peopling of the Americas and the rise of Native American civilizations.
No one knows for certain either where, or when, man first began using floatation as a method of

floating log, a matted bed of reeds, or some other buoyant object could be used to support his own
weight in the water. What we do know is that some of humanity s oldest written histories and oral

Lab Report On The Heat Of Neutralization
Introduction: Every chemical change is accompanied by a change in energy usually in the form of
heat. If heat is evolved, the reaction is exothermic, and if heat is absorbed, the reaction is
endothermic. The energy change of a reaction that occurs at constant pressure is called the heat of
reaction or the enthalpyof reaction (О”Hr). This quantity of heat is measured experimentally by
allowing the reaction to occur in a calorimeter. In this experiment you will determine the heat of
neutralization when an acidand a base react to form 1 mole of water. In a perfect calorimeter, heat is
exchanged only between the reaction and the calorimeters water. Technically, some heat may may
be absorbed the calorimeter. All calorimeters exchange some heat with its environment. This
amount of heat is called the calorimeters heat capacity (the amount of of heat required to raise its
temperature 1в€ Celsius). We are going to pretend that our calorimeter is the perfect calorimeter.
Purpose: You will determine the molar heat of neutralization of 1.00 M HCL and 1.00 M NaOH in
Kilojoules.
Materials:
Goggles Graduated cylinder Drying wand Calorimeter Acid and base Thermometer Beaker to
transfer liquids Paper cups
Procedure:
Carefully measure 75 of 1.0 M NaOH in a 100 ml graduated cylinder and pour it into the
calorimeter. Leaving the thermometer out, place the top on the calorimeter. Rinse the graduated
cylinder with some tap water. Then rinse the graduated cylinder with some about 10.0 ml of the
1.0 M HCl. Completely dry the graduated cylinder with a paper towel drying wand. Carefully
measure 6.25 ml of the 1.0 M HCl. Leaving the HCl in the graduated cylinder measure the initial
temperature of acid. 27.8в€ C Rinse the thermometer with tap water and dry. Insert the
thermometer in the calorimeters top and measure the initial temperature of the base 28.2в€ C
Carefully add all of the acid to the base in the calorimeter being careful not to splash any acid on
the upper sides of the calorimeter. Stir the mixture gently with the thermometer observing the
temperature every 15 seconds for the next 2 minutes. Seconds: 15s: 31, 30s: 31, 45s:31, 60s:31,

The Importance Of Body Image
Body image and appearance is something women caution about when it comes to their bodies.
Numerous women care about how they look like, how others think of them and how they feel
about themselves. Therefore, women feel embarrassed of their appearance in comparison to
others. The concept of being thin is something female desire when looking at themselves in the
mirror. Nevertheless, several feel dissatisfy when looking in the mirror as the image they see
does not portray the image in their mind. Body image is a concerning topic for society as women
feel uncomfortable with their own body. Therefore, unhealthy habits arise as women desire to
have and look like the bodies they see online. Social media affect women as they compare their
own body to others. This results in unhealthy eating habits which, in the long term can develop
into a severe eating disorder. In comparison women exercise excessively to see their body
intention in a quicker pace. Although, past generations have dealt with body image it did not
impact women as much as the current day. Previously, women saw other females on television
and compared themselves to the picture on the screen. Though the women observing did not
know them, it still affected how ladies perceived themselves when looking at their reflection.
Likewise, in the modern period, body image is becoming a large issue as new social media
platforms engage women to follow their friends and as well celebrities. Now, suddenly women are

The Message Behind The Laugh Essay
The Message Behind The Laugh When people look at cartoons, most do not study the underlying
message, but simply find humor in the split second message they just read. Dating back to The
Golden Age, 1770 1830, a few men known as Townshend, Bunbury, Woodward, and Nixon,
transformed the art form, introducing a more playful style and a strong element of personal
caricature(http://www.cartoonmuseum.org/explore/history of cartoons comics). [Webster] defines
a cartoonas a drawing, as in a newspaper or magazine, caricaturing or symbolizing, often
satirically, some action, situation or person of topical interest (quoted in Gerberg 128). Cartoons
are divided into sub categories depending on their purpose, and the message the author is trying to
portray because each cartoon has a different goal the author is trying to achieve. In today s age, we
turn to expert Mort Gerberg to interpret the definition of cartoons and educate how cartoons are
utilized to express opinions using different tones. Gerberg is a professional cartoonistwhose work
has appeared in publications such as The New Yorker, Playboy, Harvard Business Review, and
The Huffington Post (128). He has contributed to 43 books on the topic of cartooning during his
career and he wrote, What Is a Cartoon, to argue that cartoons are rhetorical constructs using
images and languages to express opinions. A type of cartoon that plays an important role in society
is known as political cartoons. Defined by Myers, political and

Social Effects Of Advertising In Advertising
When going shopping, watching the television or looking in magazines, young girls are among the
most targeted, being affected and vulnerable to the social influences of marketing and
advertisements. Many advertisements of clothing have depicted the female form in a sexually
provocative manner. Sexualisation is when a person s value comes only from his or her sexual
appeal or behaviour, to the exclusion of other characteristics. Furthermore, sexual objectificationis
when the female body is seen as an object of male desire, which leads to a woman s worth being
her body s appearance and sexual function. Evidence from social and psychological studies is
suggesting that girls are exposed from an early age to sexualising content. On average, one third of
clothingitems available to young girls in stores have sexualised characteristics containing either
tight fitting and skin tight, low cut, or see through parts. Such clothing emphasises sexual body
parts such as the chest, bum, or legs. All of which are products that are designed and marketed
for young girls below the age of fourteen. Many garments also feature sex related pictures or
writing such as Future WAG, or short skirts and dresses, along with high heeled shoes which are
not age appropriate for young children. Some [high heeled] shoes I have seen on sale look more
suited to a lap dancing club than the feet of a young girl. Even lingerie, which is typically for
adults, is being designed for girls onwards of the age of

The Theory And Theory Of Psychology
Overview The practice of psychotherapy involves several approaches and different psychologists
often use different psychological theories to achieve their goals in treatment and interventions.
However, the combination of these psychological theories is important for the improvement of
psychoanalysis of patients and the treatment approaches used. This paper will, therefore, analyze
three psychological theories which include; attachment theory, control mastery theory and the
object relations theory. Additionally, the analysis will involve the combination of these three
theories to produce and integrated approach suitable for psychoanalysisand psychotherapy. The
development of the paper will involve stating the individual theories and their theorists, an
explanation of each theory and a combination of the three theories to improve the practice of
psychology.
Attachment theory
Attachment involves the enduring emotions and deep bonds that an individual expresses to another
person based on time and space. The attachment theory in psychology was developed by a British
psychologist known as John Bowlby through his attempts to bring an understanding of the distress
that children face due to separation from their parents. The theory was developed by John Bowlby
in 1958 following the professional time he had in the treatment of emotionally disturbed children in
the Child Guidance Clinic in London. The theory posits that the observed characteristics in children

Joseph Campbell, this quote can represent a lot for a definition of what a hero is. A hero is
someone who gives something for something they believe is bigger. That s my representative of
that quote. Something that makes a heroor a function is they have to step out of their ordinary life.
A hero usually steps out of his or her ordinary life to do something or to give something up for
something bigger. They have to step out and do something out of the ordinary for them. A hero is

When asked what they remember from the original Psycho, most people would say that the shower
scene was the part of the film that they remembered most. In this essay I will be analysing this
famous scene but from the remake directed by Gus Van Sant.
The remake of the film, created in the nineteen ninety s, has many differences from the sixties
version. This is advantageous to the production. Examples of this are the use of colour and modern
camera techniques that can be used to create tension, fear, anxiety, and psychological horror. A
result of the use of modern camera techniques is that the director can diversify the camera shots
which allows the audience to seemingly see through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This uneasiness is also caused by the fact that Marian is in her dressing gown and in her bedroom.
This makes the audience feel intrusive and involved, they are also aware of the vulnerability of
Marian at this point in the film.
The audience watch her tare up the paper which is used to write her repayment sums on, which, to
the audience is seen as evidence of her crime and if it was found she would be caught. This
representation of her crime is presented to the audience as it illustrates evidence of her crime which
again implements the audience in her criminal activities because they have witnessed the crime and
the evidence. This makes the audience feel almost guilty but also anxious to be so involved with
Marian and the emotions are magnified as the audience empathise with her.
Marian Crane gets up out of her chair as she destroys the evidence but instead of moving to
another shot Van Sant uses the same camera to pan across the room and follow her. The camera
shows a shot that encroaches on Marian as it is very close to her all of the time. It is intended to
make the viewer feel very uncomfortable as they see the whole thing through the eyes

Irony In Cast Away
The only real change comes from inside. There is nothing in life that will ever change you
drastically unless you let it. Life will only change you if you let it, that s why people walk
around like they are protecting themselves with an imperceptible forcefield of false sangfroid
attempting to act like they have their entire life together. The only way to perceive change is to
go through a slow process of self development. In the movie Cast Away, Tom Hanks does a
marvelous job of portraying how isolation and desperation can have a negative toll on a fragile
mind. Cast Away in its entirety is just one big ball of irony so to speak. Many instances in this
move have a large variety of irony and importance. For example, after the thanksgiving dinner,
Chuck is getting called into work and is required to fly overseas. Goodbyes are never easy, but
Chuck is not thinking about that; Chuck is trying to get back to Kelly as soon a possible. This is
shown by him saying be right back after he steps out of the car. This very simple action, that has
so much meaning behind it. Chucks plane experiences complications and unfortunately crashes in
the middle of the sea. The plane crash thus proves how Chucks statement of be right back is
ironic. Another way the directors are showing irony is not through words, but actions and camera
angles. One of Chucks first actions when he gets onto the island is to write HELP in the sand, in
hopes to catch the attention of a an airplane flying

Examples Of Vengeance In Beowulf
While today revenge is regarded as an impolite and impractical practice, in times past it was
normalized, even celebrated. Kazuo Ishiguro s The Buried Giant and the acclaimed Anglo Saxon
poem Beowulf describe vengeance as a ceremonious cornerstone of British, Saxon, Geat, and
Danish society. In these societies partaking in revenge was widely regarded as noble and morally
upright, though from a modern perspective these acts of vengeance would be regarded a petty and
unjust. While characters in both The Buried Giant and Beowulfliberally practice and celebrate
revenge, Ishiguro and Beowulf s Anglo Saxon author seem to critique the medium which their
characters observe.
The idea of vengeance is present throughout the entirety of The Buried Giant: each prominent
character partaking and celebrating their own retaliatory scheme. One notable example of
vengeance within the novel occurs between Axl and Beatrice. As the reader nears the end of the
novel they come to learn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, vengeance plays such a pinnacle role in Beowulf that Beowulf himself states, It is
always better / to avenge dear ones than to indulge in mourning (Beowulf, 1384 1385, 37). In an
act of retaliation for the terrorization of Herot, Bowulf seeks out, and eventually murders,
Grendel. Grendel s mother then attacks Herot, in retaliation for the murder of her son. Beowulf
then kills Grendel s mother to avenge those she killed during her conquest of Herot. Hrothgar
encourages Beowulf to seek out vengeance by saying, My household guards / are on wane, fate
sweeps them away / into Grendel s clutches but God can easily / halt these raids and harrowing
attacks (Beowulf,476 469, 14). In this verse Hrothgar suggest that, with God s aide, Beowulf can

The Baghdad battery was the foundation of this project and Baghdad batteries were built by
Ancient Parathions. There is still no exact proof on where the Parathions were able to use it since
there were no wires found for the electric current to flow. The battery is composed of a clay pot, a
copper tube enclosing a half inch metal tube and an asphalt stopper as a resistor. Inside the clay,
there is a solution which contains electrolytes such as vinegars and juice. Scholars found out that
the Parathions first ferment their wine as so that the wine will contain more free ions. And the
copper tube together with the metal tube helps the electric current flow. Recent pioneering includes
charcoal and wood sand as an alternative helping increase electric current by 2 volts. (Source: http:/

The Pursuit Of Happiness By Chris Gardner Essay
The Pursuit of Happiness is a movie about a single African American father named Chris
Gardner, who was evicted from his apartment in San Francisco, and him and his son have
nowhere to go. Chris is an intern as a stockbroker unfortunately this position pays no money.
These two face many challenges together as they live in shelters and face the hardships of life
as anything and everything gets thrown their way. However, Chris refuses to give up as he
struggles to make a better life for him and his son. According to Macinois (Macionis, 2017),
family violence involves emotional, physical, or sexual abuse of one family member by another
(p. 642). Chris s wife is being in lack of terms a bitch towards him because he hasn t sold any of
his bone density machines. Once he explained what happened throughout his day she didn t want
to hear what he had to say. She s been bringing him down ever since he signed himself into the
company that doesn t result in a good paying pay check. She doesn t show any emotional relation
to him they hardly act as a couple let alone seem close. She pays no attention to him she displays
emotional abuse towards him by making him feel like he is a worthless father and husband. In
reference to Macinois (Macionis, 2017), gender roles involve attitudes and activities that society
links to each sex (p. 91). In society, we have gender roles males are usually the tougher and the

Stephen Harper s Wealth Gap Analysis
Stephen Harper has continually disgraced Canada and its citizens throughout his almost 10 year
reign as Prime Minister. There are many problems that have risen throughout Harper s governing;
the widening of the wealth gap, the lack of women s rights and aboriginal rights are just a few.
With an election around the corner, it s time for change.
The Harper government tend to push aside many problems that exist in this nation. The wealth gap
is widening tremendously; the rich are getting richer and the poor are still poor. According to
Statistics Canada, The top 20 per cent of Canadian families by income saw their average net worth

Harper also pays favouritism to his friends who will undoubtedly vote for him by preferring
policies aimed at giving tax breaks to the rich (Rochon). Families, who really need an increase in

The Harper government has also been neglecting important basic human rights that are given to
women and aboriginals. The Conservative party has cut funding to many women s groups. In
2006, the Conservatives cut Status of Women Canada s budget by 37 percent and closed 12 of its

Giorgio Vasari Research Paper
Then arose new architects who after the manner of their barbarous nations erected buildings in that
style which we call Gothic (dei Gotthi). Florentine historiographer Giorgio Vasari (1511 1574) was
the first to label the architecture of preceding centuries Gothic, in reference to the Nordic tribes that
overran the Roman empire in the sixth century. Vasari implied that this architecture was debased,
especially compared to that of his own time, which had revived the forms of classical antiquity.
Long since rid of derogatory connotations, the label is now used to characterize an art form based
on the pointed arch, which emerged around Paris in the middle of the twelfth century, was practiced
throughout Europe, and lingered in some regions... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While most early medieval churches were covered with timber ceilings, many Romanesque
buildings have either stone barrel vaults (i.e., semi circular) or groin vaults (i.e., bays of barrel
vaults crossing at a right angle). Their walls are necessarily thick to counter the outward thrust of
the vault, and they allow only small windows. From 1100 onward, architects experimented with
innovations that, once properly combined, allowed the dissolution of the wall and a fluid
arrangement of space. For example, they adopted the pointed arch, which has a lesser lateral
thrust than the round arch and is easily adaptable to openings of various widths and heights. They
also developed a system of stone ribs to distribute the weight of the vault onto columns and piers
all the way to the ground; the vault could now be made of lighter, thinner stone and the walls
opened to accommodate ever larger windows. Equally important, flying buttresses began to appear
in the 1170s, whose vertical members (uprights) are connected to the exterior wall of the building
with bridge like arches (flyers). These external structures absorb the outward thrust of the vault at
set intervals just under the roof, making it possible to reduce the building s exterior masonry shell
to a mere skeletal

Similarities Between Gilgamesh And The Bible
Many people and religions around the world have various versions of the flood narrative; The epic
of Gilgamesh, The Bible and Greek mythology are only a few with numerous similarities and
differences. These stories can be compared by how humans were created, how the floods started, the
effects of the flood and how it helped future generations throughout the world.
Between the three flood stories, there are any similarities and differences. In all the stories humans
were created but what was different was how they were created. In The epic of Gilgamesh and The
Bible, humans were both created by God(s). On the other hand, in the Greeks flood narrative,
humans were created by Deucalion and Pyrrha throwing stones. The stories are also similar ... Show

From the flood, Utnapishtim, Noah and Deucalion were all saved and given different things. In the
Epic of Gilgamesh, Utnapishtim was saved and given immortality. In the Bible, Noah was saved,

were warned by Prometheus and later given one thing to chose which happened to be man . Lastly,
comparing how the narratives eventually helped humans in later generations. Throughout all the
narratives many things happened that humans have to deal with, ups and downs. These narratives
told to future generations can help people and humans in general deal with life s ups and downs.
Also helps humans deal with their emotions, realizing they are normal and understanding more
about life. In all of the narratives the God(s) were scared, angry or annoyed with humans. Again in
all the narratives it tells their version of how humans were created which gives later generations

Trees are silent guards, they are listeners and they hold knowledge mankind has long forgotten. A
culture that once was all across Europe to nearly facing extinction amazingly survived thousands
of years. Celtic Mythology was more than just whimsical stories to it s people it was a way of life,
including tales of these gods and goddesses who served a purpose of meaning the world and the
qualities of a good person. First, the history of Celtic Mythologytraces back centuries ago. For
example, there is a long history of their people. At their height they were a large and diverse
group that was spread out all across Central Europe. After the Start of christianity however, the
popularity or Celtic went down. Also, scientists have discovered many different celtic villages.
The Hallstatt village in Austria is the oldest one of its kind ever found and many different celtic
artifacts have been found there. This is why the early stages of Celtic Mythology was known as

Informative Speech On Conversion Therapy
Speech Title:
Topic: Conversion therapy
General Purpose: To persuade
Specific Purpose: I want the audience to avoid organizations that support the use of conversion
therapy and to understand the pseudoscientific and harmful nature of such a practice.
Thesis: Conversion therapy receives little support from the American psychiatric community due to
a lack of evidence confirming its supposed effectivity and the measurable damage it causes to the
individuals subjected to its outdated practices.
Action Step: I want the audience to avoid organizations that promote the use of conversion therapy
to alter a person s sexual orientation.

Gay Marriage Right or Wrong
Gay Marriage Right or Wrong
There are so many ethical issues that are continuously debated and still there has been no
resolution. Gay Marriage is an ethical issue that has been debated for years. This is an issue that
I think that will continue to be debated as a clear answer as to why it is morally wrong has yet to
be determined. For so long a deontological view has been applied to the subject. Those who are
opposed to same sex marriage take on this view. I do not think that a deontological view will solve
the issue of whether same sex marriage is right or wrong. However I do fee l that taking on a
perspective brought to the issue by relativism will assist in giving an understanding of why it is

On the other hand when taking on a relativism perspective on can argue that children that are
raised in same sex parent households are no different from those raised in a traditional
household. Same sex marriage has not only been argued by those who oppose as only being a
union between man and woman. Those opposed can also argue that marriage is not between two
people (a man and woman) but of those not related. This brings in the argument of the what
deontologists would support The Slippery Slope argument, which argues that allowing same
sex marriage will only lead us down a slope that welcomes incest and polygamy. Those who
support this also feel that if gay marriage is allowed that it would threaten the institution of
marriage. I disagree with this argument. I feel that now days a person is going to do what they
want. As long as there are two consenting adults then gay marriage should be allowed. Same sex
couples want to be married for the same reasons as heterosexual couple. I do not feel that
allowing gay marriage says hey you can now marry your brother or sister etc. Although it s not
talked about a lot there are a lot of people who practice polygamy. There are different cultures and
countries where it is the norm to have more than one wife and it is perfectly fine. So I do not think

The Controversy Of Appeasement In The 20th Century
Appeasement can be sighted to the 20th Century as a controversial foreign policy. Appeasement
literally means to pacify or conciliate (Hallock, Stephanie, The World in the 20th Century, 06 05
2016, p 82). It is also defined by the words of Chamberlain in September 1938, As long as a war

for peace to the last moment (Hallock, Stephanie, The World in the 20th Century, 06 05 2016, p

Consequently, the concentration of pollutants will be increasingly higher as time goes on.

athletes from around the world participate in a variety of competitions. According to existing
historical manuscripts, the first ancient Olympic Games were celebrated in 776 BC in Olympia.
They were dedicated to the Greek god Zeus and took place in the same place every four years.
This four year period became known as an Olympiad (International Olympic Committee, 2012). The
first modern games were held in Athens, Greece in 1896 with nine sports contested. The 2016
games will consist of 28 sports. Although the actual event may last for only a few weeks, the
preparations commence up to a decade beforehand and may entail considerable investment
expenditures that can have longer term economic significance.
In 2016, the Olympics will be held in Rio De Janeiro. When choosing the next country to host the
Olympics, Rio had one of the biggest advantages. The Olympic Games had never been held in
South America. Additionally, the International Olympic Committee understood what the power of
transformation of these games would mean to Rio, Brazil and South America. To the Olympic and

Was The Peloponnesian War Inevitable
The Peloponnesian War Is war ultimately inevitable? Many may say the answer seems to be a
definite yes, but to answer this question, one must evaluate the causes, the history, and the
aftermath of war. The Peloponnesian War is an excellent war that can be examined. It was a great
war fought by two very powerful Greek city states, Athens and Sparta. It started on April 25th, 431
B.C. and lasted until 404 B.C., a whole generation. The war caused major destruction and many
lives from both sides were lost making Greecenever be the same again. Athens and Sparta started

following year the Athenians finally surrendered and Sparta dismantled its empire.
The Peloponnesian Warbrought disease, destruction, famine, widespread civil wars, and a huge

back. Sparta won the war, but they didn t become a great city and a new empire was never built.
Sparta attempted to lead the Greeks, but soon fell short and new leaders were called forth.
The aftermath of the war for Athens was brutal, but they worked hard to get everything back

Electoral College Flaws
Do you feel the Electoral system best represents everyone in the US? The United States have
using the Electoral College for over 220 years! There have definitely been changes since the first
president. The Electoral have many flaws and i m here to inform you about the flaws about the
way we elect our president. I am going to tell you my two biggest flaws that need to be changed.
The Electoral Collegedoes not represent the people in the best possible way, considering the state
s vote represents the majority of the state, not the individual people, which is ideal. The second
reason why the Electoral College does not best represent the people is because the smaller
populated states don t have an even say compared to the larger states.
The Electoral College represent the people because the states vote represents the majority of the
state, but not all of the people. In CT, 54% voted for Hillary and 41% voted for Trump. CT final
vote was Hillary so those 668,000/41% of the people don t get represented at all. ( 2016 Election ).

that this year, 41% of CT s votes did not go toward voting for the new president. Hillary Clinton has

Although most people s vote count toward the state s votes same do not. I think it s a big problem
that not everyone is getting represented and that needs to change. Everyone should have an equal

The genesis of Edward Scissorhands came from a drawing by then teenaged director Tim Burton,
which reflected his feelings of isolation and being unable to communicate to people around him in

with Uruguay a war is about to begin over who is in power in Uruguay. Lopez runs into trouble
with bringing Paraguay into the War of the Triple Alliance. Paraguay falls on the wrong side having
to fight against Brazil, Argentina, and the Colorado Party of Uruguay (Resnick). Paraguayans are
forced with two options that both end in death: not fight and be executed by Lopez or go to war
and be killed by Brazilians, Argentinians, or Uruguayans. Paraguay eventually has to even send
their children to fight due to the loss of many people. After Paraguay loses the war, Brazil takes
the country over. The next known leader that Paraguay has after Brazil leaves is Alfredo
Stroessner. This man starts the process of Operation Condor in 1975 (Resnick). Stroessner
becomes leader of Paraguay in 1954 due to his planned military coup taking over the nation. He was

Ima Corporation Swot Analysis
Case introduction and background[1]
The IMAX corporation has been at the forefront of groundbreaking movie technology since the
1960s. Their expertise in multi screen, large format filmmaking that creates an immersive
experience has suffered relatively few competitors over the years. Distinctive brand identity has
added to IMAX s market differentiation. Initially, IMAX opened theatres in institutions such as
museums and aquariums, and created documentary style films with high educational value. This
has given IMAX a strong image as a trusted provider of quality edutainment movies suitable for
family audiences.
Much of IMAX s business relies not on the production and screening of their signature movies, but
on the sale of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unable to collect receivables from bankrupt debtors, IMAX plunged into debt out of which they
have not yet emerged.[2]
Opportunities
* Expand North American audience: Over 40% of IMAX audiences are between 12 24 years of
age.[3] Adding more 3D movies would help to increase audience appeal and could result in higher
ticket sales. * Produce high quality films with regular release throughout the year. * Have
Hollywood movies that are made in the IMAX format provide the marketing campaigns, allowing
IMAX to benefit with minimal financial outlay. * Sell or lease their equipment (with service
agreements) to Asian Pacific markets.
Threat
* Other industry specialists may develop their own technology to compete with IMAX formats. *
Brand erosion due to IMAX releasing non educational reformatted blockbuster movies.[4] * The
development of DMR and DMX which allowed more mainstream movies to be shown in expanded
formats in traditional multiplexes; although it increased profitability it also means that IMAX now
has competition in regards to creating an immersive movie viewing experience.
Alternatives
Alternative 1: Discontinue expansion of all theatre operations and instead market and license
existing patented technology. Expand Research Development department budget to expand on

El racismo aun prevalece en nuestra sociedad
Perfil Racial
Es evidente que en nuestra sociedad el racismo aГєn prevalece. Lo vemos todo el tiempo en las
noticias, los crГmenes de odio contra los latinos, de Oriente Medio, los afroamericanos y otras
minorГas.
minorГas que van a travГ©s de Г©l, asГ como ilegal.

The Food Safety Is A Highly Overlooked Essay
Food safety is a highly overlooked yet crucial aspect of the food industry, as evident in the
deadly 1993 Escherichia Coli outbreak in multiple Jack in the Box locations. Escherichia Coli is
prevalent in raw and undercooked ground beef, which is a common food item on the Jack in the
Box menu; the bacterial contamination during the slaughtering process of the meat lead to this
gut wrenching epidemic (Wiley 2013). The horrific E. coli outbreak could have been prevented
if it were not for Jack in the Box s meat supplier Vons, Foodmaker s vice president of technical
services Ken Dunkley, and Jack in the Box s President Bob Nungent. The 1993 Jack in the Box
E. Coli outbreak could have been prevented firstly if the contaminated meat itself had never set
foot in a single Jack in the Box establishment. It was made evident upon an interview with Jack in
the Box s President Bob Nugent that the testing that was done on that particular batch of meat
indicated that it had high levels of E. coli. It is their responsibility to notify us if there s any
potential hazard with a product. We were notified of those high levels of E. coli after the outbreak.
So without notification, we couldn t take any measures to preclude it . (Benedict 2011). Vons
broke the Meat inspection Act, as it is a federal law that spells out the foodcodes it is a breach of
warranty to sell or distribute food that is contaminated or adulterated (Benedict 2011). This initial
error on Von s part gave leeway for

A Plea For Emigration By Mary Ann Shadd
Mary Ann Shadd s A Plea for Emigration was a pamphlet that was written for African Americans
who may be interested in emigrating to Canada. By examining all the different parts of the
country, such as climate and labour, Shadd paints a very positive overview of Canada. It s a very
simple read and I was able to get through it without any issues. However, as I read it, I was quite
concerned with how it was written. It was a very biased opinion of Canadaand Shadd was
constantly overselling the country to convince people to emigrate to Canada. She only
addresses any concerns for the sheer purpose of just reassuring the reader and pushing it to the
side. As a result, it grossly undermines the hardships that an immigrant may face, especially for
African individuals. As this was written in 1852, racism was still rampant within North America
and even though Canada had an anti slavery legislation, that does not dismiss the discrimination
that Black citizens would face. Furthermore, moving to a new country and rebuilding a life there
isn t as simple as Shadd portrays, especially during this time period. With only manual hard
labour as job opportunities and being forced to survive out in the wilderness, this is a life that isn
t suited for everyone. Shadd attempts to convince the readers that the hard work is worth it, but
she does a very shallow job of doing so as she neglects to mention any of these difficulties. Her
proposition only appear strong because she doesn t choose to

How Power Is Used For Concealing Relations Of Power
Power is usually described as bad and is mostly discussed by others about the abuse of power
however this is not true, power can be used to help or protect individuals, which is exactly what the
culture I had observed does. In this essay, I will examine the performances of power that is
observed throughout the ritual ceremony, chanting in the Buddhism culture, displaying how the
religion is used for concealing relations of power within this definite culture. Through this
examination, I will use the theories of Karl Marx(religion as ideology) and Antonio Gramsci
(hegemony being concept of power), to support the display of how the power distributes religion.
By relating to the definition of power, I argue that, for the members of this community, power is
about ease and security no inequality.
The first observation that I had seen to our visit to the Fo Guang Shan Temple that stood out to me
the most were the Buddha statues. Inside the shrine, in the prayer room, were five large Buddha
statues and each wall in the room was occupied with images of small carved Buddha s; both
female and male. Along the left side of the five Buddha s, was an image of Male Buddha and on
the right side was an image of Female Buddha. I also noticed that people took off their shoes at
the door before they entered. When I entered the prayer room, the first entity I had perceived was
that the air was filled with the smell of very strong incense, used for offering the Buddha. People

Persuasion Case Study

TITLE
In today s societies every member of society connected with others. They affect each other with
their opinions or behaviors. In this environment, people want to have an influence on others with
persuading them. Robert Cialdini shows us how important the persuasion in our relationships.
Persuasion is inducing someone to do something through reasoning or argument. In his book,
Influence: The psychology of persuasion, he indicates that our decision making depends on
shortcuts and fast decisions more than critical thinking with considering all information. He
identified these six shortcuts as Reciprocity, Scarcity, Authority, Consistency, Social Proof and
Liking. In the case study, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Almost our all communications with others include these tactics but they are hard to detect
because they are a natural part of relations. In these relations sometimes we are the side that tries
to persuade others and sometimes reverse. Any people can give you a memory any of this two
side. As a memory of being persuaded I had a remarkable memory. It was my first day in Istanbul
and I was very excited about it. I came to Istanbul with the bus because all planes were full.
When I came to the bus station I saw plenty of sellers who were annoyingly insistent. My goal
was going to metro station without stopping to talk to them because I knew that I would try
hard to sell me something if I stop. Unfortunately, I could not reach my goal and one of these
sellers stopped me. He said that he sells original perfumes and his perfumes are export surpluses
this is why they are so cheap. He asked my homeland and he said he is from there too which I am
very sure that is a lie. Also, he said that he had only three perfumes to sell so it was my last
chance to buy one. It was very annoying and I bought one perfume because I want to get rid of
him. Or at least I thought that way. After reading Cialdini s book and his persuasion tactics I realize
that the seller used these tactics on me very masterly even though he seems uneducated. Even
though I thought that I bought that perfume to get rid of him, I can see now that he convinced

The idea of selling at a loss may appear to be in the public interest and therefore not often
challenged. Only when the leader pushes up prices, it then becomes suspicious. Loss leadership can
be similar to predatory pricing or cross subsidisation; both seen as anticompetitive practices.
[edit] Market oriented pricing
Setting a price based upon analysis and research compiled from the targeted market. Also with the

[edit] Penetration pricing
Main article: penetration pricing
The price is deliberately set at low level to gain customer s interest and establishing a foot hold in
the market.[2]
[edit] Price discrimination
Main article: price discrimination
Setting a different price for the same product in different segments to the market. For example,
this can be for different ages or for different opening times, such as cinema tickets. Market
orientated pricing is also a very simple form of pricing used by very new businesses. What it
involves is, setting the price of your product/service according to research conducted on your target
market.
[edit] Premium pricing
Main article: Premium pricing
Premium pricing is the practice of keeping the price of a product or service artificially high in
order to encourage favorable perceptions among buyers, based solely on the price. The practice is
intended to exploit the (not necessarily justifiable) tendency for buyers to assume that expensive
items enjoy

The Power Of Cleopatra
Many know the name Cleopatra. Some only know her as the queen of Egypt. Scholars know her
as the enchantress of Julius Caesar and Mark Antony. Many students have read the Shakespearian
plays written about her affairs and dramatic suicide, but few people know Cleopatra VII the leader.
Born in Alexandria in 69 B.C.E, Cleopatra was the last ruler of the Ptolemaic Dynastyin the
Hellenistic Era. As told by Stacy Schiff in Cleopatra: A Life, she overcame many obstacles among
leaders, her people, and herself within in her reign. Her intelligence, determination, and cleverness
made her a memorable queen. Cleopatra s stellar leadership skills allowed her to successfully rule

She used her appeal to seduce Caesar in order to accomplish a goal that would be beneficial for
the whole of Egypt. This was her response to the cultural normalcy that served as a hindrance to
her leadership ability but found alternate ways to show her power and prominence. Cleopatra
used the resources available to her and did what she had to do to remain in power. She used
Rome to regain control, she tried to depict herself as a solid, capable, and relatable leader for her
followers, and finally, she seduced Caesar and defeated her brother to establish herself as a
stable ruler in Egyptian leadership. However, Cleopatra did have a need for power that was
borderline lustful and ultimately leads to demise. When Rome took of Egypt, to avoid
humiliation, she decided to die a more honorable and godly death. She took her own life by
being bit by an asp, which was considered godly , and therefore elevated her further in the people
s eyes (129). Even in death, she was revered and demonstrated her success as a leader despite not
being the most ethical one. Her death gained power for her. Cleopatra faced many problems as
queen of Egpyt but pushed through them with determination. She won the hearts of her people
with charm and confidence and showed her intelligence in the political tactics she used for power
for Egypt. Her independence and ambition made her a successful leader because she didn t let

Green Mountain Coffee Roaster Essay Assignment 4 4 Shane Rittenhouse Acct.310 Ann Remely 6/5/13 Issue During the fourth quarter of 2010 Green Mountain Coffee Roasters had some accounting irregularities become known to the public. Green Mountain s problems all started from how they recognized income, though intercompany inventory and third party vendor. After the SEC inquiry, Green Mountain s accounting irregularities spanned three fiscal years and three fiscal quarters. Starting with fiscal year 2007 and running through the third fiscal quarter of 2010. In total Green Mountain had five areas of their financial statements in which they did not follow GAAP. Second FASB code violated is 605 15 25 or Topic revenue recognition, Subtopic products, Section recognition (FASB ASC 605 15 25). With this violation Green Mountain had under accrual incentive programs by $1.4 million dollars and also over accrual incentive programs by $700,000 dollars. Green Mountain had a net overstated income by $700,000 dollars during the fiscal years. Since Green Mountain has taken the Razor and Blade sales method, this is an important violation for their investors (Mchugh, 2012). The Razor and Blade sales method is where Gillette brand razors are sold at cost but the company makes its money when the consumer buys the blade. For Green Mountain they are selling the coffee maker at cost, while they hold the patent rights to the K cup that fits into the coffee maker. The last FASB rule violates is 605 25 25 or Topic revenue recognition, Subtopic multiple element arrangements, Section recognition (FASB ASC 605 25 25). This violation is from Green Mountain not having the correct cumulative revenue recognition of royalties from a third party vendor. • 4. Social Class And Its Effect On Children s Life On October 23th 1995 at a still undisclosed location, a sniper shot my father. He had been in the marine of 7 years and a decorated officer and that is everything I ve been told about him to this day. My mom doesn t mention him and I know none of his relative. Growing up without a parent has a drastic effect on any child s life. The few people I ve talked to about this often ask why I have never asked my motherabout him and that is hugely due to the circumstances of his death and in some ways social class. Military kids aren t supposed to cry over loved ones, but honor their memory and respect their service. We are encouraged to stand strong and often told when younger to make them proud. Our social class had a lot to do with how I learned to handle this as an officer s son whose mother is also a high ranking member of the government that pressure to maintain composure was doubled. Growing up it was often me who was chosen to speak at different memorial and veteran events. I was poised as somebody other kids who lost parents to look up to, it was up to me to show them how to act. I was taught young that your actual feelings don t matter only the face you put on to the world. If I m being honest a second reason I ve never asked is I don t have an interest in learning more it would only serve to make him real as it is now he is more a mythological figure. Essay on Zimbabwe Should Not Have To Suffer This Way Zimbabwe Should Not Have To Suffer This Way In recent years, Zimbabwe has been prone to increasing violence as a result of a corrupt government. There have been many instances reported to HRWO (Human rights watch organization) of personal accounts where landowners and workers alike have been subjected to beatings, pillaging, threats, and overall persecution. These acts of terrorism are the products of a military coup that is currently in power called the Zanu PF and orchestrated by the veterans of the war for Zimbabwe s Independence. The world must not stand by and watch these crimes against humanity take place with a complacent eye any longer. This tyrannical powers regime of terror which enacted the Zimbabwe land reform and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The election was a landslide and the days of a white owned tyrannical government was over, or at least that s what the native people were led to believe. One British condition in the Lancaster Agreements was the ensured protection of white farm owners for the first ten years of the new government. These conditions simply said were willing seller, willing buyer meaning that land would not be acquired forcefully from any already functional farms. After the term of the agreement was up, the government had control of redistributing the land to the people. For the first ten years redistribution was slow and most of the land was still in the hands of the white commercial farmers. During this period President Mugabe took out enormous loans from the World Bank and invested it in institutions designed to fit the luxurious standards of the elite. They awarded the majority of usable land to the elite of Zimbabwe, while the majority of the country was rapidly growing poorer, and paying for the government s outstanding loans through a process called Economic Structural Adjustment Program. In 1898 together with Nemirovich Danchenko, he founded the Moscow Art Theatre. ===================================================================== Stanislavski believed that theatre was about working together, he recognized the need to improve the theatre practice of his time and saw actors needed methods to help them act well and consistently. To solve these problems he developed what was later to be called The System. It was a rational process of techniques and exercises designed to train and develop the actor s skills. The areas ... The superobjective, when deciding on the superobjective the cast simply had to come up with a simple sentence that summed up the significance of the play as a whole, taking into account their interpretations of the authors intentions. Stanislavski believed that this helped the actors focus on a key idea, which they were all contributing to through their role in the performance. Therefor he believed it was important that all of the actors involved in the production to know and agree on the superobjective. The method of physical actions, This idea grew from Stanislavski s feeling that his actors were being overwhelmed by too much character and plot detail at an early stage of the rehearsal process. He believed this led them to try to hard, which resulted in physical and mental tension. In the last five years of his life Stanislavski explored a different approach to working on a production, in which the company began by telling the story of a play s plot through its main physical actions. The next stage was to create a more detailed version that was based on an understanding of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Violent Protest In Martin Luther King Martin Luther King was a civil rights activist who believed in the liberty and justice for all. During his life, Dr. King lead peaceful civil rights protest, preached the word of God, and was imprisoned. Dr. King advocates for nonviolent responses to injustice and believes that protestors must be willing to go to jail for what they believe in. In addition, Dr. King preaches that a violent response to unjust treatment is wrong and one should not practice it, a preaching that ultimately led to his death. Overall, Dr. King favored the use of nonviolent tactics over violent ones. Mohandas K. Gandhi was an African philosopher who was also an attorney. During his time, Gandhi challenged the apartheid system. The apartheid system basically was a form of institutionalized racism that put the whites (the Dutch and the British) above the brown (Indian workers) and the black (the descendants of the African natives). In addition, it made brown and black people to be considered second class citizens , even though some of held prestigious jobs. Gandhi was angered by the apartheid system that he constantly protested it. In fact, it is what lead him to develop his non violent protest philosophy. This philosophy became known as satyagraha, which translates to Love Force or Soul Force . Gandhi believed that satyagraha was the way to oppose unfair treatment and that violent protest would just leave people wounded or even worse, dead. Before beginning the research for this work, I had planned on producing a paper and presentation which detailed the history of open sea navigation and the difficulties and dangers which would have faced sailors and seamen during the Age of Discovery. My premise was that we, living in the twentifirst century, had lost touch with the reality of just how hazardous a voyage such as that undertaken by Columbuswas. I had hoped to be able to capturefor the listener and reader a sense of wonder at the bold willingness to risk life and limbthat was demonstrated by the explorers of this era as they left the safety of the waters and oceans that they knew, to challenge the unknown. I had wanted to capture that feeling of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Columbus voyage to the West was a risk only in the sense that all sea voyages undertaken at this time placed those sailing at the mercy of the winds, the waves, and the weather, with the added possibility that either pirates or Muslims would be encountered. Navigation, and the navigator s understanding of the world, had by this time developed to the point where Columbus was not stepping blindly into the abyss, but rather was choosing a course of action based on what was believed to be sure knowledge. The histories of navigation and sailing are intertwined in such a way that for the purpose of this study they cannot be separated. Also a part of this story are what I believe to be some intriguing possibilities regarding the peopling of the Americas and the rise of Native American civilizations. No one knows for certain either where, or when, man first began using floatation as a method of dealing with the rivers, streams, lakes, and other bodies of water that he found in the world around him. However, one can easily imagine a scenario in which early man discovered that a floating log, a matted bed of reeds, or some other buoyant object could be used to support his own weight in the water. • 9. Lab Report On The Heat Of Neutralization Introduction: Every chemical change is accompanied by a change in energy usually in the form of heat. If heat is evolved, the reaction is exothermic, and if heat is absorbed, the reaction is endothermic. The energy change of a reaction that occurs at constant pressure is called the heat of reaction or the enthalpyof reaction (О”Hr). This quantity of heat is measured experimentally by allowing the reaction to occur in a calorimeter. In this experiment you will determine the heat of neutralization when an acidand a base react to form 1 mole of water. In a perfect calorimeter, heat is exchanged only between the reaction and the calorimeters water. Technically, some heat may may be absorbed the calorimeter. All calorimeters exchange some heat with its environment. This amount of heat is called the calorimeters heat capacity (the amount of of heat required to raise its temperature 1в€ Celsius). We are going to pretend that our calorimeter is the perfect calorimeter. Purpose: You will determine the molar heat of neutralization of 1.00 M HCL and 1.00 M NaOH in Kilojoules. Materials: Goggles Graduated cylinder Drying wand Calorimeter Acid and base Thermometer Beaker to transfer liquids Paper cups Procedure: Carefully measure 75 of 1.0 M NaOH in a 100 ml graduated cylinder and pour it into the calorimeter. Leaving the thermometer out, place the top on the calorimeter. Rinse the graduated cylinder with some tap water. Then rinse the graduated cylinder with some about 10.0 ml of the 1.0 M HCl. Completely dry the graduated cylinder with a paper towel drying wand. Carefully measure 6.25 ml of the 1.0 M HCl. Leaving the HCl in the graduated cylinder measure the initial temperature of acid. 27.8в€ C Rinse the thermometer with tap water and dry. Insert the thermometer in the calorimeters top and measure the initial temperature of the base 28.2в€ C Carefully add all of the acid to the base in the calorimeter being careful not to splash any acid on the upper sides of the calorimeter. • 11. The Message Behind The Laugh Essay The Message Behind The Laugh When people look at cartoons, most do not study the underlying message, but simply find humor in the split second message they just read. Dating back to The Golden Age, 1770 1830, a few men known as Townshend, Bunbury, Woodward, and Nixon, transformed the art form, introducing a more playful style and a strong element of personal caricature(http://www.cartoonmuseum.org/explore/history of cartoons comics). [Webster] defines a cartoonas a drawing, as in a newspaper or magazine, caricaturing or symbolizing, often satirically, some action, situation or person of topical interest (quoted in Gerberg 128). Cartoons are divided into sub categories depending on their purpose, and the message the author is trying to portray because each cartoon has a different goal the author is trying to achieve. In today s age, we turn to expert Mort Gerberg to interpret the definition of cartoons and educate how cartoons are utilized to express opinions using different tones. Gerberg is a professional cartoonistwhose work has appeared in publications such as The New Yorker, Playboy, Harvard Business Review, and The Huffington Post (128). He has contributed to 43 books on the topic of cartooning during his career and he wrote, What Is a Cartoon, to argue that cartoons are rhetorical constructs using images and languages to express opinions. • 12. Social Effects Of Advertising In Advertising When going shopping, watching the television or looking in magazines, young girls are among the most targeted, being affected and vulnerable to the social influences of marketing and advertisements. Many advertisements of clothing have depicted the female form in a sexually provocative manner. Sexualisation is when a person s value comes only from his or her sexual appeal or behaviour, to the exclusion of other characteristics. Furthermore, sexual objectificationis when the female body is seen as an object of male desire, which leads to a woman s worth being her body s appearance and sexual function. Evidence from social and psychological studies is suggesting that girls are exposed from an early age to sexualising content. On average, one third of clothingitems available to young girls in stores have sexualised characteristics containing either tight fitting and skin tight, low cut, or see through parts. Such clothing emphasises sexual body parts such as the chest, bum, or legs. All of which are products that are designed and marketed for young girls below the age of fourteen. Many garments also feature sex related pictures or writing such as Future WAG, or short skirts and dresses, along with high heeled shoes which are not age appropriate for young children. The Theory And Theory Of Psychology Overview The practice of psychotherapy involves several approaches and different psychologists often use different psychological theories to achieve their goals in treatment and interventions. However, the combination of these psychological theories is important for the improvement of psychoanalysis of patients and the treatment approaches used. This paper will, therefore, analyze three psychological theories which include; attachment theory, control mastery theory and the object relations theory. Additionally, the analysis will involve the combination of these three theories to produce and integrated approach suitable for psychoanalysisand psychotherapy. The development of the paper will involve stating the individual theories and their theorists, an explanation of each theory and a combination of the three theories to improve the practice of psychology. Attachment theory Attachment involves the enduring emotions and deep bonds that an individual expresses to another person based on time and space. The attachment theory in psychology was developed by a British psychologist known as John Bowlby through his attempts to bring an understanding of the distress that children face due to separation from their parents. The theory was developed by John Bowlby in 1958 following the professional time he had in the treatment of emotionally disturbed children in the Child Guidance Clinic in London. In this essay I will be analysing this famous scene but from the remake directed by Gus Van Sant. The remake of the film, created in the nineteen ninety s, has many differences from the sixties version. This is advantageous to the production. Examples of this are the use of colour and modern camera techniques that can be used to create tension, fear, anxiety, and psychological horror. • 16. Irony In Cast Away The only real change comes from inside. There is nothing in life that will ever change you drastically unless you let it. Life will only change you if you let it, that s why people walk around like they are protecting themselves with an imperceptible forcefield of false sangfroid attempting to act like they have their entire life together. The only way to perceive change is to go through a slow process of self development. In the movie Cast Away, Tom Hanks does a marvelous job of portraying how isolation and desperation can have a negative toll on a fragile mind. Cast Away in its entirety is just one big ball of irony so to speak. Many instances in this move have a large variety of irony and importance. For example, after the thanksgiving dinner, Chuck is getting called into work and is required to fly overseas. Goodbyes are never easy, but Chuck is not thinking about that; Chuck is trying to get back to Kelly as soon a possible. This is shown by him saying be right back after he steps out of the car. This very simple action, that has so much meaning behind it. Chucks plane experiences complications and unfortunately crashes in the middle of the sea. The plane crash thus proves how Chucks statement of be right back is ironic. Another way the directors are showing irony is not through words, but actions and camera angles. One of Chucks first actions when he gets onto the island is to write HELP in the sand, in hopes to catch the attention of a an airplane flying ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Examples Of Vengeance In Beowulf While today revenge is regarded as an impolite and impractical practice, in times past it was normalized, even celebrated. Kazuo Ishiguro s The Buried Giant and the acclaimed Anglo Saxon poem Beowulf describe vengeance as a ceremonious cornerstone of British, Saxon, Geat, and Danish society. In these societies partaking in revenge was widely regarded as noble and morally upright, though from a modern perspective these acts of vengeance would be regarded a petty and unjust. While characters in both The Buried Giant and Beowulfliberally practice and celebrate revenge, Ishiguro and Beowulf s Anglo Saxon author seem to critique the medium which their characters observe. The idea of vengeance is present throughout the entirety of The Buried Giant: each prominent character partaking and celebrating their own retaliatory scheme. CHAPTER II Review Of Related Literature The Baghdad battery was the foundation of this project and Baghdad batteries were built by Ancient Parathions. There is still no exact proof on where the Parathions were able to use it since there were no wires found for the electric current to flow. The battery is composed of a clay pot, a copper tube enclosing a half inch metal tube and an asphalt stopper as a resistor. Inside the clay, there is a solution which contains electrolytes such as vinegars and juice. Scholars found out that the Parathions first ferment their wine as so that the wine will contain more free ions. And the copper tube together with the metal tube helps the electric current flow. Florentine historiographer Giorgio Vasari (1511 1574) was the first to label the architecture of preceding centuries Gothic, in reference to the Nordic tribes that overran the Roman empire in the sixth century. Vasari implied that this architecture was debased, especially compared to that of his own time, which had revived the forms of classical antiquity. Long since rid of derogatory connotations, the label is now used to characterize an art form based on the pointed arch, which emerged around Paris in the middle of the twelfth century, was practiced throughout Europe, and lingered in some regions... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While most early medieval churches were covered with timber ceilings, many Romanesque buildings have either stone barrel vaults (i.e., semi circular) or groin vaults (i.e., bays of barrel vaults crossing at a right angle). Their walls are necessarily thick to counter the outward thrust of the vault, and they allow only small windows. From 1100 onward, architects experimented with innovations that, once properly combined, allowed the dissolution of the wall and a fluid arrangement of space. For example, they adopted the pointed arch, which has a lesser lateral thrust than the round arch and is easily adaptable to openings of various widths and heights. They also developed a system of stone ribs to distribute the weight of the vault onto columns and piers all the way to the ground; the vault could now be made of lighter, thinner stone and the walls opened to accommodate ever larger windows. Equally important, flying buttresses began to appear in the 1170s, whose vertical members (uprights) are connected to the exterior wall of the building with bridge like arches (flyers). These external structures absorb the outward thrust of the vault at set intervals just under the roof, making it possible to reduce the building s exterior masonry shell to a mere skeletal ... The Electoral College represent the people because the states vote represents the majority of the state, but not all of the people. In CT, 54% voted for Hillary and 41% voted for Trump. CT final vote was Hillary so those 668,000/41% of the people don t get represented at all. ( 2016 Election ). For those people, their vote does not mean anything to the outcome of the president. • 45. The Food Safety Is A Highly Overlooked Essay Food safety is a highly overlooked yet crucial aspect of the food industry, as evident in the deadly 1993 Escherichia Coli outbreak in multiple Jack in the Box locations. Escherichia Coli is prevalent in raw and undercooked ground beef, which is a common food item on the Jack in the Box menu; the bacterial contamination during the slaughtering process of the meat lead to this gut wrenching epidemic (Wiley 2013). The horrific E. coli outbreak could have been prevented if it were not for Jack in the Box s meat supplier Vons, Foodmaker s vice president of technical services Ken Dunkley, and Jack in the Box s President Bob Nungent. The 1993 Jack in the Box E. Coli outbreak could have been prevented firstly if the contaminated meat itself had never set foot in a single Jack in the Box establishment. It was made evident upon an interview with Jack in the Box s President Bob Nugent that the testing that was done on that particular batch of meat indicated that it had high levels of E. coli. It is their responsibility to notify us if there s any potential hazard with a product. We were notified of those high levels of E. coli after the outbreak. So without notification, we couldn t take any measures to preclude it . (Benedict 2011). • 46. A Plea For Emigration By Mary Ann Shadd Mary Ann Shadd s A Plea for Emigration was a pamphlet that was written for African Americans who may be interested in emigrating to Canada. By examining all the different parts of the country, such as climate and labour, Shadd paints a very positive overview of Canada. It s a very simple read and I was able to get through it without any issues. However, as I read it, I was quite concerned with how it was written. It was a very biased opinion of Canadaand Shadd was constantly overselling the country to convince people to emigrate to Canada. She only addresses any concerns for the sheer purpose of just reassuring the reader and pushing it to the side. As a result, it grossly undermines the hardships that an immigrant may face, especially for African individuals. As this was written in 1852, racism was still rampant within North America and even though Canada had an anti slavery legislation, that does not dismiss the discrimination that Black citizens would face. Furthermore, moving to a new country and rebuilding a life there isn t as simple as Shadd portrays, especially during this time period. With only manual hard labour as job opportunities and being forced to survive out in the wilderness, this is a life that isn t suited for everyone. Shadd attempts to convince the readers that the hard work is worth it, but she does a very shallow job of doing so as she neglects to mention any of these difficulties. • 47. How Power Is Used For Concealing Relations Of Power Power is usually described as bad and is mostly discussed by others about the abuse of power however this is not true, power can be used to help or protect individuals, which is exactly what the culture I had observed does. In this essay, I will examine the performances of power that is observed throughout the ritual ceremony, chanting in the Buddhism culture, displaying how the religion is used for concealing relations of power within this definite culture. Through this examination, I will use the theories of Karl Marx(religion as ideology) and Antonio Gramsci (hegemony being concept of power), to support the display of how the power distributes religion. By relating to the definition of power, I argue that, for the members of this community, power is about ease and security no inequality. The first observation that I had seen to our visit to the Fo Guang Shan Temple that stood out to me the most were the Buddha statues. Inside the shrine, in the prayer room, were five large Buddha statues and each wall in the room was occupied with images of small carved Buddha s; both female and male. Along the left side of the five Buddha s, was an image of Male Buddha and on the right side was an image of Female Buddha. I also noticed that people took off their shoes at the door before they entered. Robert Cialdini shows us how important the persuasion in our relationships. Persuasion is inducing someone to do something through reasoning or argument. In these relations sometimes we are the side that tries to persuade others and sometimes reverse. Any people can give you a memory any of this two side. As a memory of being persuaded I had a remarkable memory. It was my first day in Istanbul and I was very excited about it. I came to Istanbul with the bus because all planes were full. When I came to the bus station I saw plenty of sellers who were annoyingly insistent. My goal was going to metro station without stopping to talk to them because I knew that I would try hard to sell me something if I stop. Unfortunately, I could not reach my goal and one of these sellers stopped me. He said that he sells original perfumes and his perfumes are export surpluses this is why they are so cheap. He asked my homeland and he said he is from there too which I am very sure that is a lie. Also, he said that he had only three perfumes to sell so it was my last chance to buy one. It was very annoying and I bought one perfume because I want to get rid of him. Or at least I thought that way.
