My Thanksgiving Theme
My Thanksgiving Party This year s Thanksgiving party has a theme of classic rock. To me, classic
rock is a great theme because it contains some of the best artists ever. It is also personally my favorite
type of music. The theme will involve the music playing in every room at the party, including the
outside activities. The theme will be fun because there will be three celebrities. The three celebrities
are going to be Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, and Eric Clapton. They will be there to demonstrate their
guitar work and they will also be signing autographs and showing off their guitars. The food will be
great. Ruth s Chris will be catering. There will be waiters there. The waiters will take an order anytime
you ask. You can order anything

The Love Song Of J. Alfred Prufrock
T.S. Eliot was an outstanding author and an exemplary representation of the ideas of modernism. The
Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, despite being one of T.S Eliot s earliest publications, still manages to
remain one of the most famous. He uses this poem to not only draw out the psychological aspect of
members of modern society, but also to draw out the aspect of the time that he lived in. The speaker of
this poem is a modern man who feels alone, isolated, and incapable of making decisive actions for
himself. Prufrock desires to speak to a woman about his love for her, but he hesitates the entire way
there. In this poem, the theme I have chosen is fragmentation, which we can see throughout the entire
structure of the work. It s evidenced by not only his writing style, but the use of space and time and
the personality of Prufrock. The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock depicts the conscious thoughts of a
single, timid, and middle aged man. Prufrock is talking or thinking to himself, these thoughts or
speeches making up the entirety of the poem. For the first forty eight lines of the work, he considers
the aimless pattern of his solitary life. He is a lover, but unable declare love to someone. In the very
first line, he is both the you and I, pacing the city s streets on another lonely walk. He watches the fog
settle over him in the evening. Growing more hesitant throughout, he stops to consider his decision.
Should he, a lonely and middle aged man, even

Deaf Culture Vs Deaf People
It is known that hearing people are superior to Deaf people. No one can sit and prove it, but you can
tell how a hearing person acts compared to how a deaf person acts when they walk into a room. The
hearing people are chit chatting and enjoying their time. The deaf person is looking around trying to
read lips but deep down is feeling isolated. Most Deaf people understand that they are equal to hearing
people and should not feel discriminated against. Deaf people sometimes still get treated different, but
most of the world is starting to treat them equally. They have been able to get more employment,
higher education, and higher job positions. In Bernard Bragg s book, Lessons in Laughter: The
Autobiography of a Deaf Actor , he expressed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Come to find out three years later, Silver was just jealous of Braggs accomplishments. Another thing I
learned about Deaf Culture is that since the Deaf community is usually small in a town, the Deaf
people usually keep up with each other. When Braggs asked about Silver, no one knew where he was
after graduation. At Gallaudet, Braggs had ended up going to the prom with Ruth. His friends joked
with him that he was going with her. Then he ended up being glad he went with her once he had a
good time at prom and she expressed how she was to be blind along with being deaf in six months.
Braggs was not always just all play; he did a load of work as well.
Jobs are more fun when people enjoy them instead of going just for the money. Braggs was a typical
man in changing his mind about what he wanted to do. In the beginning of this book, he is working so
hard on the set of a television show that he forgets his birthday was coming up. He became a teacher
after he graduated at Gallaudet. So glad that he finally graduated, he goes to rub it in his father s face
that he got an education. He ends up going to an empty theatre where Marceau was there and saw his
acting skills. Marceau then invited him to France to act with his troupe. No one in France knew about
Deaf Culture, so they did not understand his breathing and made him work on it for the play. This
book was surprisingly amazing. I tried to put myself in a deaf person s shoes

There is large scope for miscommunication of the information or communication gap due to the higher
human interference in the system. This miscommunication may lead to wrong allocation of the track
for trains, which ultimately leads to the train collision. The statistics in the developing countries
showing that 80% of worst collisions occurred so far is due to either human error or incorrect decision
making through miscommunication in signaling and its implementation.
The real time viewing of actual current positions of the trains at various locations is Possible with the
continuous tracking of rail traffic with the Geographic Positional System equipment installed in the
trains. The latest developments in the GPS technology will give the positional accuracy of nearly 2m.
Practically speaking these accuracy levels May not suffice to locate the train on exact particular track
on which the train is actually Traveling. But the real time dynamic location information provided by

Political Parties And The Democratic Party Essay
Introduction:
Originally political parties were seen as skeptical by our Founding Fathers and therefore opposed.
However, today our government has political parties. Political parties attempt to gain control of the
government and influence its decisions. The two most influential parties in American government are
the Republican and Democratic Party. These two parties have very contrasting beliefs which they
present in their platforms. Democrats believe in the need for intervention by government in the form
of more and bigger programs and agree that there must be fairness in government regulations and
freedom of expression. Republicans however, have more conservative values and cultivate the
importance of family and the efforts made by individuals. They, unlike the Democratic Party, prefer to
keep the power out of the hands of the government. Political parties business and actions affect every
American. Especially when the political party is governing and practicing its beliefs. The structure of
marriage, education, taxes, and defense spending are all topics that influence the daily lives of
American individuals. That is why is it is important to know where each political party stands.
Marriage and Family:
Republicans describe marriage as the union of one man and one woman and their regulations revolve
around these ideals. They state that children s emotional and physical health is stronger when they are
raised in a household with two parents. To Republicans, natural

The Microsoft Nokia Negotiation
There are several factors that are important to examine in the Microsoft Nokia negotiation. The first
factor is that this was a cross cultural negotiation because Microsoft is an American company, while
Nokia is a Finnish company. Both countries have very different values, so it was extremely important
for representatives from both companies to understand each other s cultures before the negotiations
began. Another reason that I feel this negotiation could be successfully completed was due to the fact
that Microsoft and Nokia s priorities aligned well at the time. Both companies saw the other s products
and capabilities as being complementary to what they already offered, which gave executives from
both companies further incentive to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, beneath the iceberg, we have value, beliefs, norms and assumptions. These are all important
factors of the negotiator that a negotiator who is unfamiliar with the culture would not be aware of if
they simply showed up to the negotiation without first conducting research (Thompson, 2014). An
example of how the iceberg has come into play with the Microsoft Nokia negotiation is that a key
challenge of the deal was that Nokia was a huge source of Finnish pride and selling the brand s best
known division would hugely diminish that pride (Moen, 2011). This presented a challenge for
Microsoft to overcome because Microsoft is an American company and America is a country that
places less value on patriotism than Finland (Thompson, 2014). If Microsoft had undervalued Nokia s
Finnish routes and the importance of Finland to Nokia, then the Nokia board may not have agreed to
sell the company to Microsoft. This is one of the reasons why Microsoft agreed to make Finland a
research hub for the company and keep a significant portion of Microsoft s mobile development work
in that country. Having a company like Microsoft invest in Finland provided to be a large boon for the
country and was one of the considerations of the deal. This deep sense of Finnish pride was also one
of the reasons that Microsoft committed to keep using Nokia name even after the merger (Telegraph
Reporters, 2016). If Nokia was an American company, the concern of

Morality In International Relations
International relations have always been a very important topic. Knowing and understanding the
history of international relations is vital to learning how it has evolved and how we can handle it today
and in the future. However today our historical egoism, or the idea that we believe we are better and
more advanced than those in the past can blind us. In reality, history is a bit more complicated. We
often ask if it is a never ending march of progress or one conflict after another? The best we can do is
learn and try to create a better future. With that said, we will be looking at two important factors in
international relations: power and morals. It has been a widely debated issue whether it is better to use
power or morals in international relations. Some argue that power is the answer to international
relations, and others believe that morals are the answer. In the end, several theories, authors, and
examples can lead us closer to the aptness of international relations.
To begin with, many have argued that power is what maintains a balance between nations and what
can also lead to war. First, let s look at two major powers in the world: Europe and United States.
Their international relation structures are very different. America is more realist than Europe in the
way they use, desire, and view power. Europe s perspective is more diplomatic and sophisticated.
Europe tends to turn away from power and focuses on a creating laws and rules that world should
follow. When an

Symbolism In Inherit The Wind
The play Inherit the wind by Jerome Lawrence and Robert Edwin Lee contains many abstract symbols
that give the story a timeless essence. We see these symbols through the ongoing conflict between
evolutionism and creationism. While exploring the conflict the reader gains insight into how exactly
ones right to think freely is forbidden through the town itself Heavenly Hillsboro . The idea that ones
right to think freely relates to another symbol, the golden dancer. Through the wooden play horse the
reader learns that nothing is as it seems and sometimes one must look beyond the horizon. The central
symbol, wind was generally used in and around the play that suggested the mood of chaos relating
predominantly to many of the relationships. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reader is first introduced to this concept by Drummond when he says, Bert, whenever you see
something bright, shining, perfect seeming all gold, with purple spots look behind the paint! And if it s
a lie show it up for what it really is! (110). The underlying message is that you should not put faith
into something because it appears to be great. This problem arose from the fact that the townspeople
thought that creationism was perfect. These beliefs were concrete until Drummond started to pick at
them. In a sense the beauty of the horse could be related to the outer shell while the core would be
evolutionism. In actuality creationism was this beautiful lie while evolutionism was the ugly truth.
This was applied to Brady because although at first it seemed that he was towering over everyone with
a built in spotlight in end it proved to be that Brady was nothing but a fraud. The idea of Brady being
powerful connects to the golden dancer because although the dancer appeared to have substance like
Brady in the end it only broke down. All in all this demonstrates that without the golden dancer Brady
s authority would not have been questioned resulting in no one questioning their

My Leadership Style Of The Golden Rule Of Treating Others
As I reflect on my leadership style as it pertains to ethics I have always considered me to be a very
realistic but fair minded person. One of my strong values I live my life by is integrity. I believe in the
golden rule of treating others the way you would like to be treated. I have always taken others feelings
and actions into consideration when making a decision that not only affect me but the group at large. I
noticed that a lot of my morals and values are strongly grounded on the foundation I got from my
parents growing up on a tobacco/dairy farm in Metcalfe County. My parents taught me early that all
you have in life is your education, your name and your word. Implying that you are only as good as
your word and never do anything that will affect your name as your name is who you are. In all
aspects of my life integrity is the key to success. I found this chapter to be very interesting as it gave
me a greater understanding of my ethical leadership style and explanation of others. When thinking
about my ethical perspective it s difficult to pick just one. I have found that depending on who I am
with sometimes requires different responses. Because I identify a lot with a transformational leader
sometimes with family and students who are really struggling with home, school and other outside
barriers I become Altruism and my concerns for my family or that individual play a huge factor in my
decision making. According to Northhouse (2013) Altruism is an approach

Class Between Class And Class Essay
Economic class division in the United States is simultaneously one of the most visible and invisible
issues facing this nation today. Unlike issues that many passionate individuals aren t afraid to voice
their opinions on such as racism, sexism, climate change, and marriage equality, the issue of class
divide is like the elephant in the room that no one wants to talk about or address. As Bell Hooks puts
it, author of Where We Stand: Class Matters, Racism and sexism can be exploited in the interests of
class power. Yet no one wants to talk about class. (Hooks 7) The fact that discussions of class and
class divide have become such a taboo in the United States is truly disappointing. Class, more than
race or gender, is the single biggest factor in determining someone s success. Therefor, it should go
without saying that discussions and open dialog about class are crucial in this society in order to
advances its citizens and promote success with as many people as possible. It wasn t always like this.
There was indeed a time in our history when class was talked about, a time when the poor were cared
for, not seen as second class citizens or a taboo. David Hilfiker describes an earlier time in our history
as a nation when it was just assumed that a physician would care for the poor. However, in more
recent times Hilfiker finds himself regarded almost as a saint because he chooses to work with the
poor. (Hooks 41) Although the precise point at which this switch in logic

Military Support Research Paper
There is something about an old man sitting in his rocking chair sharing stories that sparks just about
anyone s interest. It just so happens that man was my grandfather, telling stories about his experiences
serving in the military, I couldn t help but sit and listen in fascination. He had so much to say; from
how he had two pet monkeys during the war, learning how to ask for tea from a Vietnamese man, to
desperately trying to sleep through the haunting visions of dead bodies he had seen in combat. My
grandfather is a strong man, but even so, he still needs help in some aspects of life after serving in the
military. He began to tell me about his trips to the Department of Veteran Affairs Clinic and the
medical support he received. He said to me, Now baby girl, Lord knows I am thankful for the aid
government offers, but I sure wish some things were different. Not just for me, but the Veterans out
there that need more than I do. This was something that really made me think about what our
government does offer and how it effects our citizens. Some would argue that we have ample support
opportunities and the government is offering all that is needed, while others would argue there is not
enough aid and the government is not, in fact, doing everything they can to help the men and women
who have served our country.

Lucille Clifton Grandma We Are Poetry Analysis
Great pieces of literature allow for someone to relate to the piece. As I read grandma, we are poets by
Lucille Clifton I could relate. I did not read it as if I related to autism, but as I remember all the words
that define who were are by society s standards. In Clifton s poem emotion could be felt when
portraying those with autism and I was determined to make a similar piece.
For my piece I began to define beauty based on society s definition rather than how Clifton defines
autism by the dictionary definition. I wanted there to be two different voices heard in my poem. The
first voice was that of myself as I reminisce on what beauty felt like as I grew up. The other voice is
society and all the ideas that make someone beautiful. I decided to use the word beauty because I have
been talking to my sister lately and a boy told her she was not pretty enough to be his girlfriend. I
realized writing a poem was a good way to portray to her that no matter what anyone says she is
always going to be beautiful. I was able to write my own experience because there is no better way to
explain something than through one s own examples. This advice coming from an older sister is ...

sister that no matter what society says she is beautiful the way she is. As I read the third stanza in
Clifton s work she used the word imagined multiple times to portray what a kid with autism is feeling
or doing as they see people or hear words. I felt that the word change was a great way to portray raw
emotion in my piece. I used the dashes before the word to exaggerate the change that society was
yelling in my head. Finally, the last change comes, but it is modified to changed. I used the word
changed to evoke emotion because I had finally given into society and what society sketched as

Great Smog Of London And The Scientific Implications In...
The Great Smog of London and the Scientific Implications in Today s World
Turn of the century London, the emergence of the middle class has forced the cultural bias to shift in
favor of more homes, more people, and a lot of energy consumption. Science s solution to the energy
crisis is a seemingly perfect one: distribute and utilize a more available fuel. Coal burned slower than
wood and therefore kept people and homes warm more resourcefully. For a while it seemed like a
miracle solution. The industrialization of the previous age had been using coal as well, and when the
air became polluted with the factory and energy refuse, the smog was swept away in a matter of hours
(Kilen, C.) That went on until early winter of 1952. That fall had been an unusually cold one, and the
coal had been burning day and night. The factories had been chugging on, and the black smoke kept
rolling. The process by which factories burn coal is as follows: the coal is blown into the furnace
where it burns while still airborne. The heat is used to warm water, which then produces steam, which
spines a turbine. The factories that burn coal now use methods to slightly lessen the pollution, such as
wet limestone to absorb the sulfur (How Coal Works, Union of Concerned Scientists, p.4). This
particular winter, though, the pollutants would not be swept away as they had been in the past. This is
due to the fact that on this particularly cold December, an inversion occurred over the city of London.

The Consequences Of Whaling And Its Effects On The...
Whaling is the hunting of whales to obtain meat and blubber. The blubber is brought to a station off
the shore designed to boil the blubber into oil (Hacquebord 2001). All these components of a whale
are useful to humans, but by extracting these whales at such a high rate may have consequences for
the ecosystem they leave behind (Hacquebord 2001;Williams et al. 2004;Baum and Worm 2009). It is
important to question the effects mass exploitation has on the environment in order to prevent or
predict certain unwanted changes for future removal (Williams et al. 2004;Baum and Worm 2009).
Whaling has been studied from various time periods and different places around the world
(Hacquebord 2001;Williams et al. 2004;Trites et al. 2007;Baum and Worm 2009).
In 1977 there was an increase in certain species of lions and seals in British Columbia, while in Alaska
there was a decrease of seals and sea lions (Williams et al. 2004;Trites et al. 2007). Because this
happened after commercial whaling, many attribute the decline with cascading top down effect (Trites
et al. 2007). There are many other factors that make an impact and based on research the removal of
the whales did not cause the shift in seals and sea lions (Trites et al. 2007). Most studies are conducted
to focus on the predator and a species of prey of a neighboring trophic layer (Baum and Worm 2009).
Another whale influencing this environment is the Killer whale (Williams et al. 2004). These need an
incredibly high calorie diet

Marijuana Should Be Legalized Essay
Marijuana Should Be Legalized. Drugs are a major influential force in our country today. The problem
has gotten so out of hand that many options are being considered to control it or solve it. One of the
most controversial issues facing our generation is if we should legalize marijuana. Usually, people do
not know a great deal about marijuana they just considered it as any other drug. There is one thing
people should know is that marijuana is not like the others drugs such as heroine or cocaine. But,
marijuana is considered a drug, and in fact is illegal, due to number of reasons. For me, and so the

However, those who are against it think there will be an increase in people using the drug and
therefore a need to increase rehabilitation programs which will come at the cost of taxpayers and the
government . Maybe is right, people can smoke it everyday. But, we all know that man and women are
attracted by taboos, I mean everybody is attracted by forbidden things, especially teenagers. Actually,
teenagers like to experiment anything outside the norm of society. If the government decides to
legalize it, the physical damage created because of the drug abuse, can be control. Besides, the FDA or
others could regulate the quality and safety of drugs. Many drug users become sick or die because of
poorly prepared products. After all, there is nothing to regulate what is sold and no way to sue anyone
for product liability. By bringing marijuana into the legitimate business world, you can oversee
production and regulate sales. Moreover, concerning business and sales, it could be a source of
additional tax revenues. During a debate on that matter, one man said that, An enormous amount of
money is raised through government taxation of alcohol, cigarettes, and other sins . The legalization of
marijuana would create another item that could be taxed. I m sure the government would have no
problem spending all that extra money . On the one hand, legalization would mean a lower price; thus,
related crimes (like theft) would be reduced.

Mcdonald s Pest Analysis Paper
The foundation of McDonald s, a well known brand name in fast food industry, dates back to 1940
when the McDonald brothers, Dick and Mac, opened a drive in restaurant in San Bernardino,
California. They came up with an idea of using an assembly line process to serve more customers in
the same amount of time. In 1948, that idea turned out to be a success as the potato chips were
replaced with the world famous French fries of McDonald s. The real person behind the company s
history, however, is Ray Kroc (picture) (Fast Food Restaurant 2015). Thanks to Kroc s open mind by
focusing investment on advertisement, McDonald s experienced a tremendous growth between the

McDonald s UK is affected by factors such as inflation, interest rates, unemployment rates, purchasing
powers and global economic stability. When the rate of inflation is high, competition is intense since
the cheapest food providers will win the greatest market share. In time of price increases and exchange
rate fluctuation, McDonald s UK may have to re establish its food supply chain that satisfies both the
low price requirement and high quality. It can do so by sourcing local food supplies, especially when
inflation in UK fell to 0% in June 2015 due to a fall in clothing and food prices (United Kingdom

determine the supply and demand relationship and the sale of McDonald s products. High
unemployment rate means less income to spend and hence, lower revenue. When economic conditions
are stable with low interest and low inflation, McDonald s UK is more likely to take risks in franchise

Examples Of Mise En Scene In The Matrix
The film The Matrix is considered to be a great science fiction and action film, as the special effects
were ahead of its time and the story is ageless. The Matrix was released on March 31, 1999. Although
many people are not aware of the mise en scene in the film, unknowingly it plays an important role in
the film. Without the setting, lighting, costume/makeup, and the behaviour of the figures, the film
would be uninteresting. The following essay will discuss how the maze cubicle office, the dark
lighting, the black costumes and sunglasses and the seriousness of the figures all contributes to the
theme of captivity verse freedom in the scene where Mr. Anderson tries to escape from Agent Smith
and his co workers.
Firstly, one of the elements of mise en scene is the setting. The setting takes place in an office. The
office is in a very high building and it looks like a maze cube. The setting is very realistic as many
companies use those maze cube offices, however, the use of the maze cube reflects the theme of
freedom verses captivity. Usually when people are in a maze they are trapped and are looking for a ...

The figures in this scene were very serious, they barely showed any emotion. Neo, on the other hand

when looking at the behaviour of the figures it is evident that the director used the fear of Neo s fear to
evoke a feeling of concern in the viewer. Therefore, based on how the actors react provokes a feeling
of suspense within the viewer.
In conclusion, as we assess this specific scene in The Matrix it is evident how significantly the
director used the mise en scene to articulate the theme of captivity verses freedom in the film. The
mise en scene also creates a feeling of nervousness within the viewer that could not have been
achieved without the expert use of the mise en scene in the

Thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) are protective coatings applied to the surfaces of metallic parts in the
hottest part of gas turbine engines (Fig. 1.1). They enable the engines to operate at higher temperatures
without raising the base metal temperature using cooling systems inside the hot sections components
and thus, enhance the operating efficiency of the engines (2). Some ceramic materials, such as
alumina, zirconia, etc., are usually chosen as coating materials because they are thermally refractory
and chemically inactive and especially well suited for being used as high temperature protection
barriers (3). Hence, TBCs with low thermal conductivity, phase stability, and high resistance to
sintering have ever increasing demands (4). Generally, TBCs consists of three major layers): (i) a
ceramic top coat deposited on the bond coat, (ii) a metallic bond coat deposited on the super alloy, and
(iii) a thermally grown oxide (TGO) that forms between the bond coat and top coat as the coating is
exposed to elevated temperatures. (Fig. 1.2) illustrates this multilayer structure in a typical TBC
system.

3.) What are the parts of TCP/IP and what do they do? Who is the primary user of TCP/IP?
TCP/IP is the transport/network layer protocol we use on the internet. Many BN S, MAN s and WAN
s rely on it. This is because it is relatively efficient, and transmission has few errors. Any errors that
are found, are checked and so large files can be sent even in the most unsafe network and the data will
still be unchanged. TCP/IP is very compatible with a number of data link protocols as well.
The two parts of the TCP/IP are the: Transport Layer Protocol and the Network Layer Protocol aka
TCP and IP. TCP is what links the application layer to the network layer. It also helps by segmenting
the data, by breaking them down ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
* The network layer address is used primarily by network layer software. A web address is translated
into an IP address via a network layer protocol (in this case, IP used on the internet.) The IP address
translated can be 4 bytes long with IPv4 (e.g., 129.79.127.4), which is today s standard. The process
can be compared to looking up a name in a find book to find their phone number. * When it comes to
routing, the network layer; is what finds the data link layer address of the next corresponding
computer that the message has to be sent to. The easiest way to interpret this, is to look at it with
Ethernet software. For example, if the data link layer is run using Ethernet, the network layer IP
address would have to be translated into an Ethernet address so they can match and understand each
other. Ethernet addresses are six bytes in length. The following table below, shows a better picture of
the differences in software and addresses amongst the three. (Fitzgerald, 158)

As shown in Table 6, 67.7% of informational tweets contained hashtags and 69.4% of promotional
tweets contained hyperlinks. In order to manage the professional relationship with the public, NBA
clubs were more likely to apply hashtags to their informational tweets and hyperlinks to their
promotional tweets. As specific hashtags could be easily searched on Twitter and noticed by followers,
they might be a useful tool for releasing information. Many NBA clubs sold tickets and derivative
products online; therefore, they tended to direct their followers to their online stores using hyperlinks.
In order to build personal relationships with their followers, the sample clubs utilized public messages
(82.8%) more than other communication tools because they had to use the @ symbols to reach other
Twitter users and to participate in conversations. Also, 48.6% of interactive tweets were actually

Tattoo s Effect On Society
Thank goodness for Thomas Alva Edison s patented invention of the Electronic Pen in 1876. It used a
high speed reciprocating motor to move a single needle and was intended for a document duplication

out from all the redefined machines, and that was Samuel O Reilly s invention of the first functioning
electric tattoo machine of 1891. This opened a whole new generation growth in the tattoo realm. More

Are government whistleblowers acting in the public interest, or do they endanger the public by
exposing classified information? Just as government transparency has waned in recent years, there
have been several instances of very public national intelligence whistle blowing. Large scale leaks

government secrecy, as well as the balance between security and liberty. High profile whistleblowers

Summary Of Thorstein Veblen s Theory Of Leisure Disposition
Thorstein Veblen was an economist and sociologist that believed that the success of capitalism
depended on people spending money on leisure activities to represent their wealth status. It was
essential for him that people spend money on leisure activities so that the poor class would have the
desire to emulate them and work harder to achieve that same status to experience the life of comfort.
However, Richard Sennet a modern sociologist states that Veblen s theory of leisure disposition is no
longer valid and argues that a person who tries to emulate the upper class only corrodes his character
to the highest possible degree. In this paper, I will demonstrate that Veblen s theory of emulation is not
applicable to the new modern capitalism era ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although, Sennet states that the system itself undercuts that ability to have a strong character to
survive. Its not saying that Veblen is completely wrong, however they do not have the appropriate
character, because no one has character anymore, so there is no reason for emulation. The ethical
disposition that Sennet gives is that emulation cannot exist under the new capitalism. There are many
things that need to be taken into consideration at this point and especially that Veblen lived in a old
capitalistic era. Therefore, he did not take into consideration that capitalism was going to turn from
being a long term contract to a short one. Taking in mind that Veblen had concrete knowledge of
capitalism, he may have been able to protect his theory from Sennet s critique. It is likely that he
would have probably responded to Sennet that the wealthy class individuals are secure no matter the
type of economy they live in and do not need to worry about the future. It is only those who are of
inferior class that are affected by these alterations of contracts because they do not have a secure trust
fund to turn to for aid. They will need to deal with the problems they may face and work harder than
they already do to gain that fake sense of secureness. As a result, Sennet would refugate his point by
stating that the working class does not have the perfectability to foster the

The War That Didn t End All Wars
Four years, three months and two weeks later, in 1918, the global series of destructive events, known
as World War 1, that had begun when Serbian nationalist assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand of
Austria, heir to the throne of Austria Hungary finally came to an end. Resulting in the victory of the
allied forces, establishing a safer place for democracy for a very short period of time. However it was
not without a fight that this achievement came about, millions of troops lost their lives to the deadly
chemical weapons, tanks and other weaponry. The war had so many devastating effects that British
author H. G. Wells called it The war to end war , which now can be seen as an erroneous comment. In
his article, The War That Didn t End All Wars war studies professor at King s college London, Sir
Lawrence D. Freedman, quotes George Kennan s words to describe the war as the great seminal
catastrophe as the Great War led to the creation of a broken intergovernmental organization known as
the League of Nation, left Germany completely destroyed financially and contributed to the collapse
of the Austrian, Turkish and Russian Empire. World War 1 did not end war; instead it not only paved
the way for the biggest war in history of mankind, World War 2, but also one of the worst genocides

Examples Of Chivalry In Beowulf
Some say chivalry is dead , I don t think so. Chivalry is a code of conduct governing a knight s
behavior. It s the combination of qualities expected of an ideal person, especially bravery, loyalty, and
honor. One of the main elements of chivalry is bravery, in the story we read Beowulf s last Battle, an
example of braver was , He could see how his king was suffering ... Wiglaf mind was made up ; he
raised his yellow shield and drew his sword. in the story Wiglaf went back to help his king fight, that
showed bravery. An example of bravery today is people going/volunteer in the military and army. That
shows bravery because, you re sacrificing your life for other and your country. The second element of
chivalry is loyalty, in the story we read called Le Monte d Arthur, an example of loyalty was My lords,

by not wanting to go to war with him. An example of Loyalty today is people being loyal to their

The Olympic Games Of Ancient Greece
Every four years, the entire world congregates to watch the Olympic Games. Here, thousands of the
world s greatest athletes compete for glory. The modern Olympic Games started only in 1896, but the
ancient Olympic Games began over two thousand years before. The ancient Greek Olympics were an
important part of the Greek culture and were celebrated for hundreds of years, during which the
political and cultural borders shifted. The athletic games held in Olympia during ancient Greece
exemplified the religious and exclusive nature of the ancient Greek society.
Even though the first ancient Olympic game started in 776 BCE, the tradition of athletics in ancient
Greece dates back to times before Homer. In the Odyssey, one can read about athletics and games.
Although the games held in Olympia were not the only athletic tournament in Greece, it was the oldest
and had the most importance.
Olympia was originally a sanctuary for people to come and worship the gods. There were numerous
temples and altars at the site, and many animals were sacrificed. The purpose of the games was to
celebrate and honor the Greek gods. Throughout the years, the main focus of the games was not of
personal glory and honor, but rather, to celebrate, glorify, and honor the gods.
The site of Olympia is marked by the Hill of Kronos, which juts into the landscape near the plains
where the Alpheios River meets the Kladeos River. This area was a sanctuary for the people of Elis.

Abstract Titanium cerium ferrite (TCF) was prepared by a simple solvothermal method. The obtained
TCF was applied as magnetic adsorbent for the extraction of uranium ions from aqueous solutions.
The synthesized magnetic nanoadsorbent was characterized using FT IR, XRD, Raman, BET surface
area, VSM and TEM. Various parameters such as solution pH, initial concentration, sorbent dosage
and rate of adsorption were investigated using batch adsorption experiments. The optimum pH was
found to be 6.0 and the equilibrium was achieved in approximately 120 min. Kinetic studies indicated
that pseudo second order kinetic model best describes the adsorption behavior. The adsorption
isotherms were well fitted by Langmuir adsorption isotherm and the maximum adsorption capacity
was evaluated to be 555.555 mg/g at 55 ⁰C. The thermodynamic parameters calculated from the
adsorption data suggested that the adsorption of U (VI) onto TCF was a spontaneous and endothermic
nature of process. The highest values of uranium desorption was achieved using 0.1 M HNO3 as the
desorbing agent. The results indicate that TCF has potential as an adsorbent for sorption U (VI), using
a simple, fast separation method for removal of uranium ions from aqueous solution.

The problem in this case is that John Bramante came into his new position and started making major
internal decisions. From these decisions came a negative impact on the city s government plans that
were already in place before he came into his position. The causes of this problem were that John
Bramante made decisions without consulting with the city council. John started spending unnecessary
amounts of money, changed the city s purchasing process, and changing people s positions within the
city government. With that being said John also changed employee s positions and there were no

My third recommendation would be for John Bramante to be put on a 90 day probationary period.
This recommendation is in hopes that John will be able communicate better with the council and make
better decisions overall. This will also show the pubic that the city government is doing something
about the hasty decisions that are being made by the city manger. However the disadvantages to this is
that this simply may not work or it may only work up until the probationary period is over and the
cycle will happen all over again. After considering all the recommendations, it was determined that the
best course of action would be to have all further decisions that are made by John Bramante to be
approved my the majority of the city council members. This is the best choice because this assures
that the city manger and the city council consult with each other when major decisions must be made.
When it comes to how to implement this recommendation, it must be broken into three phases. The
first being the Defining phase this will consist of the council members determining the rules and
procedures to make this work. To do this the council must define what is considered a major decision
and what is not. Then next will then be to determine what is meant by majority vote . The council
must then come to an agreement on what will happen if majority of the council members do not
approve of the decision purposed by city manger. Then finally the

Ignatius Letter To The Philadelphians Analysis
The letter to the Philadelphians follows next and like the first few letters continues to emphasise the
role of the bishop. I believe even if Ignatius was not a Bishop himself he would still stress the
importance of the bishop in the Church. To Ignatius the bishop is a sacred and important role in
keeping order and spreading the word throughout the Church. In the previous letters Ignatius says that
through the bishop you will find unity in the Church, to the Philadelphians he says through the bishop
you will protect yourselves from schism and heresy in the Church. It is also in this letter that Ignatius
warns specifically to not listen to the Jews. This comportment towards the Jews was common in early
Christianity and can be seen throughout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After talking about the resurrection of Christ, Ignatius instructs the Smyrnaeans to beware of the
heretics and not to speak or even meet with them if possible. He says the only thing they can do for
them is to pray for their repentance, even though it will be difficult for them. Only Christ has the
power to redeem the heretics and save them ultimately from themselves. This message to the
Smyrnaeans is a very powerful message to Christianity as a whole and should be at the center piece
for how a Christian is to act. With any religion or belief you will have those who are deemed heretics
in the eyes of the believer. The negative way to deal with the heretics is to confront them with anger
and harm but the positive way is really not to confront them at all. Instead of fighting fire with fire or
Word against word, as a Christian the only thing you can do is leave it in God s hands. This idea is just
as powerful in 100AD as it is in 2016AD. The letter to the Smyrnaeans goes on to reiterate the
message of honoring the Bishop and not doing anything within the Church without the Bishop.
Ignatius says about honoring the Bishop, He who honours the bishop has been honoured by God; he
who does anything without the knowledge of the bishop, does [in reality] serve the devil.

Why Is Phillis Wheatley Unfair
Has something ever happened to you that you think is unfair? Something unquestionably unfair
occurred to Phillis Wheatley in her childhood. Nevertheless, it transpired at the age of seven. Phillis
was the first African American to write and publish a poem. Her first poem was published in the
Newport Mercury newspaper in 1767, six years after she was captured to work as a slave. I greatly
venerate Phillis Wheatley, consequently because she had a wall that she climbed over. She was not
treated equally, nevertheless, she only lived with her birth family for 7 years. Amazingly, Wheatley
had lots of difficulties in her lifetime, but she never gave up, and that s what matters.
Wheatley was seized from Gambia, West Africa when she was about seven years old. She was
transported to the Boston docks with a shipment of refugee slaves. She was enslaved by a Boston
commercialist John Wheatley and Susanna Wheatley. When Phillis was transferred, she became
terribly frail and ill. After discovering the girl s precociousness, the Wheatleys did not entirely excuse
Wheatley from her domestic duties but taught her to read and write. Wheatley indicated that despite
this exposure, rich and unusual for an American slave, her brain just begged for the intellectual
challenge of a more challenging curriculum. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

U.s. Naval Base At Pearl Harbor
Pearl Harbor
On the morning of December 7, 1941, the Japanese dispatched an astonishment air assault on the U.S.
Naval Base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. After only two hours of bombarding, more than 2,400
Americans were dead, 21 boats had either been sunk or harmed, and more than 188 U.S. airplane
pulverized. The assault at Pearl Harbor so insulted Americans that the U.S. deserted its arrangement of
nonintervention and proclaimed war on Japan the accompanying day formally bringing the United
States into World War II. The Japanese were sick of arrangements with the United States. They needed
to proceed with their development inside Asia however the United States had put a greatly prohibitive
ban on Japan in the trusts of controlling Japan s hostility. Arrangements to explain their disparities

Experiential-Humanistic Psychotherapy
Building upon the philosophy of cognitive behavioral therapy is a relatively recent form of
psychotherapy known as experiential humanistic psychotherapy (Hollon 901). Experiential humanistic
psychotherapy adds to cognitive behavioral therapy the fundamental principle of humanistic
psychology, that is, self actualization (Hollon 901). Self actualization is defined as the expression of
one s creativity and the realization of their capabilities (Hollon 901). Given the limited amount of time
that the scientific and medical communities have had to study this type of psychotherapy, it is not
surprising that there is precious little data in regards to its efficacy in treating anxiety and mood
disorders (Hollon 901). Having stated that, experiential humanistic ... Show more content on

Even though most of these nonpharmacological treatments, like deep brain stimulation (DBS),
psychosurgery, and vagal nerve stimulation (VNS), are experimental and off label in nature, there does
exist two nonpharmacological treatments for psychiatric illnesses that have been documented as
effective (Li 41). The older of the two is electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), formerly referred to
disparagingly as shock treatment (Li 41). This form of therapy involves the production of generalized
seizures due to large scale neuronal discharges via the application of short electrical impulses through
the scalp (Li 41). Data shows that modern electroconvulsive therapy is successful at managing
treatment resistant depression in roughly half of patients (Li 41). However, given the level of side
effects (such as memory loss and decreased cognition) associated with this type of treatment,
electroconvulsive therapy is used exclusively as a last resort (Li 41). It was for this reason that
repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), a form of therapy in which electromagnetic
induction is utilized in order to depolarize or hyperpolarize neurons in the brain, was developed (Li
41). In repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation, electromagnetic induction is attained by attaching
a pulse generator to a magnetic field generator, which is then placed near the head of the patient (Li

Imperialism In Qing China
Before Europeans further decided to explore and imperialize Qing China, Chinese government and
society was strictly conservative in the sense that they were rarely exposed to outside influences.
Being considerably isolated from expansion, imperialism, and industrialization in the west, it took the
people of China by surprise when suddenly Chinese power began switching between the Western
nations, all of whom were fighting for dominance. These Western pressures changed how the Chinese
incorporated Europeans into their society, they had to sign unequal treaties and push for reforms while
still trying to maintain Chinese tradition. However, being forced to succumb to European power did
not completely change their view of foreigners, or stop their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

To the people of china, their culture, society, and government was superior to the rest of the world in
preserving tradition and maintaining a stable society. They were not welcoming to the Europeans or
any other foreign groups because anyone who was not Chinese was considered a threat to the Qing
Dynasty rule. China s hesitant nature towards trade with Britain is indicated in Lin Zexu s letter to
Queen Victoria, 1839. When trying to negotiate a plan to take concerning the opium trade issue
between the nations, Lin Zexu mentions that since China doesn t need imported products from foreign
countries, no harm would be brought about if a decision was made to stop all foreign trade. This letter
is a reliable source in that it accurately expresses China s resistance to foreign trade while remaining
respectful to the Queen who could become angered at the implication of cutting off trade agreements.
In the memorandum written by, Zeng Guofan, one gains additional insight on the distrust Chinese
show against outsiders. Spoken by a Chinese government official, we can conclude that his opinion is
biased towards common Chinese logic on isolation. It can be put in perspective that the Europeans are
becoming more numerous and therefore presenting themselves as a larger threat calling for reforms
that would relieve this serious national ill. In response to these foreigners, the Boxer rebellion arose
with a goal to attack foreigners and anyone with ties to them. In an attempt to eliminate outside
influences uprisings such as this rebellion became increasingly popular and gained support from many
who still believed that foreign influence was a

Essay about Philosophy and Therapeutic Recreation
As I make my way on this journey that is my life, I realize that I have always believed in the
fundamental worth of all humanity and my responsibility as a fellow human being to respect this
premise and also to support individuals, as much as I am able, to help unearth it should this basic truth
become hidden to them. This is a guiding principle for me and I believe that many of the constructs of
the field of Therapeutic Recreation (TR) are congruent with this philosophy. Making the decision to
obtain a Therapeutic Recreation Specialization (TRS) degree offered a theoretical rationale in which
to further explore the concept of leisure, define my professional philosophy and an opportunity to
reflect critically on the field which I have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When choosing to work with adults living with severe dementia, many people often ask me how or
why I do it. It s simple. Not only do I believe that all people have value, I likewise believe that all
people can contribute to society. The client who can no longer articulate their thoughts or needs or
desires is teaching me to listen and find alternative means of communication. In essence, they are
teaching me to be a better communicator. I think this is congruent with Sayers concept of meaningful
contribution. There are still so many things about the brain that we do not understand that I would find
it arrogant of me to assume that the person with dementia does not feel they are still contributing to
society in some way.
This improved communication skill, from my perspective, is an essential and necessary benchmark for
the establishment of an effective client/practitioner relationship. O Keefe (2008) urges us to listen to
the narrative, there s a story to be heard, if only we adjust our philosophical positioning.
Eudaimonia, Leisure Ability Model, A Strength Paradigm
Aristotle posits Eudaimonia, human flourishing and happiness, as the chief good of humanity achieved
through reflective activity over a lifetime (Aristotle, The Nicomachean Ethics, 2002). From my
perspective, the reflective activity to which he alludes is the pursuit of leisure.

  • 2. My Thanksgiving Theme My Thanksgiving Party This year s Thanksgiving party has a theme of classic rock. To me, classic rock is a great theme because it contains some of the best artists ever. It is also personally my favorite type of music. The theme will involve the music playing in every room at the party, including the outside activities. The theme will be fun because there will be three celebrities. The three celebrities are going to be Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, and Eric Clapton. They will be there to demonstrate their guitar work and they will also be signing autographs and showing off their guitars. The food will be great. Ruth s Chris will be catering. There will be waiters there. The waiters will take an order anytime you ask. You can order anything ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Love Song Of J. Alfred Prufrock T.S. Eliot was an outstanding author and an exemplary representation of the ideas of modernism. The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, despite being one of T.S Eliot s earliest publications, still manages to remain one of the most famous. He uses this poem to not only draw out the psychological aspect of members of modern society, but also to draw out the aspect of the time that he lived in. The speaker of this poem is a modern man who feels alone, isolated, and incapable of making decisive actions for himself. Prufrock desires to speak to a woman about his love for her, but he hesitates the entire way there. In this poem, the theme I have chosen is fragmentation, which we can see throughout the entire structure of the work. It s evidenced by not only his writing style, but the use of space and time and the personality of Prufrock. The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock depicts the conscious thoughts of a single, timid, and middle aged man. Prufrock is talking or thinking to himself, these thoughts or speeches making up the entirety of the poem. For the first forty eight lines of the work, he considers the aimless pattern of his solitary life. He is a lover, but unable declare love to someone. In the very first line, he is both the you and I, pacing the city s streets on another lonely walk. He watches the fog settle over him in the evening. Growing more hesitant throughout, he stops to consider his decision. Should he, a lonely and middle aged man, even ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Deaf Culture Vs Deaf People It is known that hearing people are superior to Deaf people. No one can sit and prove it, but you can tell how a hearing person acts compared to how a deaf person acts when they walk into a room. The hearing people are chit chatting and enjoying their time. The deaf person is looking around trying to read lips but deep down is feeling isolated. Most Deaf people understand that they are equal to hearing people and should not feel discriminated against. Deaf people sometimes still get treated different, but most of the world is starting to treat them equally. They have been able to get more employment, higher education, and higher job positions. In Bernard Bragg s book, Lessons in Laughter: The Autobiography of a Deaf Actor , he expressed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Come to find out three years later, Silver was just jealous of Braggs accomplishments. Another thing I learned about Deaf Culture is that since the Deaf community is usually small in a town, the Deaf people usually keep up with each other. When Braggs asked about Silver, no one knew where he was after graduation. At Gallaudet, Braggs had ended up going to the prom with Ruth. His friends joked with him that he was going with her. Then he ended up being glad he went with her once he had a good time at prom and she expressed how she was to be blind along with being deaf in six months. Braggs was not always just all play; he did a load of work as well. Jobs are more fun when people enjoy them instead of going just for the money. Braggs was a typical man in changing his mind about what he wanted to do. In the beginning of this book, he is working so hard on the set of a television show that he forgets his birthday was coming up. He became a teacher after he graduated at Gallaudet. So glad that he finally graduated, he goes to rub it in his father s face that he got an education. He ends up going to an empty theatre where Marceau was there and saw his acting skills. • 6. Political Parties And The Democratic Party Essay Introduction: Originally political parties were seen as skeptical by our Founding Fathers and therefore opposed. However, today our government has political parties. Political parties attempt to gain control of the government and influence its decisions. The two most influential parties in American government are the Republican and Democratic Party. These two parties have very contrasting beliefs which they present in their platforms. Democrats believe in the need for intervention by government in the form of more and bigger programs and agree that there must be fairness in government regulations and freedom of expression. Republicans however, have more conservative values and cultivate the importance of family and the efforts made by individuals. They, unlike the Democratic Party, prefer to keep the power out of the hands of the government. Political parties business and actions affect every American. Especially when the political party is governing and practicing its beliefs. The structure of marriage, education, taxes, and defense spending are all topics that influence the daily lives of American individuals. That is why is it is important to know where each political party stands. • 7. The Microsoft Nokia Negotiation There are several factors that are important to examine in the Microsoft Nokia negotiation. The first factor is that this was a cross cultural negotiation because Microsoft is an American company, while Nokia is a Finnish company. Both countries have very different values, so it was extremely important for representatives from both companies to understand each other s cultures before the negotiations began. Another reason that I feel this negotiation could be successfully completed was due to the fact that Microsoft and Nokia s priorities aligned well at the time. Both companies saw the other s products and capabilities as being complementary to what they already offered, which gave executives from both companies further incentive to ... These are all important factors of the negotiator that a negotiator who is unfamiliar with the culture would not be aware of if they simply showed up to the negotiation without first conducting research (Thompson, 2014). An example of how the iceberg has come into play with the Microsoft Nokia negotiation is that a key challenge of the deal was that Nokia was a huge source of Finnish pride and selling the brand s best known division would hugely diminish that pride (Moen, 2011). This presented a challenge for Microsoft to overcome because Microsoft is an American company and America is a country that places less value on patriotism than Finland (Thompson, 2014). If Microsoft had undervalued Nokia s Finnish routes and the importance of Finland to Nokia, then the Nokia board may not have agreed to sell the company to Microsoft. This is one of the reasons why Microsoft agreed to make Finland a research hub for the company and keep a significant portion of Microsoft s mobile development work in that country. Having a company like Microsoft invest in Finland provided to be a large boon for the country and was one of the considerations of the deal. This deep sense of Finnish pride was also one of the reasons that Microsoft committed to keep using Nokia name even after the merger (Telegraph Reporters, 2016). Knowing and understanding the history of international relations is vital to learning how it has evolved and how we can handle it today and in the future. However today our historical egoism, or the idea that we believe we are better and more advanced than those in the past can blind us. In reality, history is a bit more complicated. We often ask if it is a never ending march of progress or one conflict after another? The best we can do is learn and try to create a better future. With that said, we will be looking at two important factors in international relations: power and morals. It has been a widely debated issue whether it is better to use power or morals in international relations. Some argue that power is the answer to international relations, and others believe that morals are the answer. In the end, several theories, authors, and examples can lead us closer to the aptness of international relations. To begin with, many have argued that power is what maintains a balance between nations and what can also lead to war. First, let s look at two major powers in the world: Europe and United States. Their international relation structures are very different. America is more realist than Europe in the way they use, desire, and view power. Europe s perspective is more diplomatic and sophisticated. Europe tends to turn away from power and focuses on a creating laws and rules that world should follow. When an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Symbolism In Inherit The Wind The play Inherit the wind by Jerome Lawrence and Robert Edwin Lee contains many abstract symbols that give the story a timeless essence. We see these symbols through the ongoing conflict between evolutionism and creationism. While exploring the conflict the reader gains insight into how exactly ones right to think freely is forbidden through the town itself Heavenly Hillsboro . The idea that ones right to think freely relates to another symbol, the golden dancer. Through the wooden play horse the reader learns that nothing is as it seems and sometimes one must look beyond the horizon. This problem arose from the fact that the townspeople thought that creationism was perfect. These beliefs were concrete until Drummond started to pick at them. In a sense the beauty of the horse could be related to the outer shell while the core would be evolutionism. In actuality creationism was this beautiful lie while evolutionism was the ugly truth. This was applied to Brady because although at first it seemed that he was towering over everyone with a built in spotlight in end it proved to be that Brady was nothing but a fraud. My Leadership Style Of The Golden Rule Of Treating Others As I reflect on my leadership style as it pertains to ethics I have always considered me to be a very realistic but fair minded person. One of my strong values I live my life by is integrity. I believe in the golden rule of treating others the way you would like to be treated. I have always taken others feelings and actions into consideration when making a decision that not only affect me but the group at large. I noticed that a lot of my morals and values are strongly grounded on the foundation I got from my parents growing up on a tobacco/dairy farm in Metcalfe County. My parents taught me early that all you have in life is your education, your name and your word. Implying that you are only as good as your word and never do anything that will affect your name as your name is who you are. In all aspects of my life integrity is the key to success. I found this chapter to be very interesting as it gave me a greater understanding of my ethical leadership style and explanation of others. When thinking about my ethical perspective it s difficult to pick just one. I have found that depending on who I am with sometimes requires different responses. Because I identify a lot with a transformational leader sometimes with family and students who are really struggling with home, school and other outside barriers I become Altruism and my concerns for my family or that individual play a huge factor in my decision making. • 12. Class Between Class And Class Essay Economic class division in the United States is simultaneously one of the most visible and invisible issues facing this nation today. Unlike issues that many passionate individuals aren t afraid to voice their opinions on such as racism, sexism, climate change, and marriage equality, the issue of class divide is like the elephant in the room that no one wants to talk about or address. As Bell Hooks puts it, author of Where We Stand: Class Matters, Racism and sexism can be exploited in the interests of class power. Yet no one wants to talk about class. (Hooks 7) The fact that discussions of class and class divide have become such a taboo in the United States is truly disappointing. Class, more than race or gender, is the single biggest factor in determining someone s success. Therefor, it should go without saying that discussions and open dialog about class are crucial in this society in order to advances its citizens and promote success with as many people as possible. It wasn t always like this. There was indeed a time in our history when class was talked about, a time when the poor were cared for, not seen as second class citizens or a taboo. David Hilfiker describes an earlier time in our history as a nation when it was just assumed that a physician would care for the poor. However, in more recent times Hilfiker finds himself regarded almost as a saint because he chooses to work with the poor. (Hooks 41) Although the precise point at which this switch in logic ... This was something that really made me think about what our government does offer and how it effects our citizens. In Clifton s poem emotion could be felt when portraying those with autism and I was determined to make a similar piece. For my piece I began to define beauty based on society s definition rather than how Clifton defines autism by the dictionary definition. I wanted there to be two different voices heard in my poem. The first voice was that of myself as I reminisce on what beauty felt like as I grew up. The other voice is society and all the ideas that make someone beautiful. I decided to use the word beauty because I have been talking to my sister lately and a boy told her she was not pretty enough to be his girlfriend. The Great Smog of London and the Scientific Implications in Today s World Turn of the century London, the emergence of the middle class has forced the cultural bias to shift in favor of more homes, more people, and a lot of energy consumption. Science s solution to the energy crisis is a seemingly perfect one: distribute and utilize a more available fuel. Coal burned slower than wood and therefore kept people and homes warm more resourcefully. For a while it seemed like a miracle solution. The industrialization of the previous age had been using coal as well, and when the air became polluted with the factory and energy refuse, the smog was swept away in a matter of hours (Kilen, C.) That went on until early winter of 1952. That fall had been an unusually cold one, and the coal had been burning day and night. The factories had been chugging on, and the black smoke kept rolling. The process by which factories burn coal is as follows: the coal is blown into the furnace where it burns while still airborne. The heat is used to warm water, which then produces steam, which spines a turbine. The factories that burn coal now use methods to slightly lessen the pollution, such as wet limestone to absorb the sulfur (How Coal Works, Union of Concerned Scientists, p.4). This particular winter, though, the pollutants would not be swept away as they had been in the past. This is due to the fact that on this particularly cold December, an inversion occurred over the city of London. An ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. The Consequences Of Whaling And Its Effects On The... Whaling is the hunting of whales to obtain meat and blubber. The blubber is brought to a station off the shore designed to boil the blubber into oil (Hacquebord 2001). All these components of a whale are useful to humans, but by extracting these whales at such a high rate may have consequences for the ecosystem they leave behind (Hacquebord 2001;Williams et al. 2004;Baum and Worm 2009). It is important to question the effects mass exploitation has on the environment in order to prevent or predict certain unwanted changes for future removal (Williams et al. 2004;Baum and Worm 2009). Whaling has been studied from various time periods and different places around the world (Hacquebord 2001;Williams et al. 2004;Trites et al. 2007;Baum and Worm 2009). In 1977 there was an increase in certain species of lions and seals in British Columbia, while in Alaska there was a decrease of seals and sea lions (Williams et al. 2004;Trites et al. 2007). Because this happened after commercial whaling, many attribute the decline with cascading top down effect (Trites et al. 2007). There are many other factors that make an impact and based on research the removal of the whales did not cause the shift in seals and sea lions (Trites et al. 2007). Most studies are conducted to focus on the predator and a species of prey of a neighboring trophic layer (Baum and Worm 2009). Another whale influencing this environment is the Killer whale (Williams et al. 2004). These need an incredibly high calorie diet ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. Thermal Barrier Coatings For Gas Turbine Engines 2.1 Thermal Barrier Coatings Thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) are protective coatings applied to the surfaces of metallic parts in the hottest part of gas turbine engines (Fig. 1.1). They enable the engines to operate at higher temperatures without raising the base metal temperature using cooling systems inside the hot sections components and thus, enhance the operating efficiency of the engines (2). Some ceramic materials, such as alumina, zirconia, etc., are usually chosen as coating materials because they are thermally refractory and chemically inactive and especially well suited for being used as high temperature protection barriers (3). Hence, TBCs with low thermal conductivity, phase stability, and high resistance to sintering have ever increasing demands (4). Generally, TBCs consists of three major layers): (i) a ceramic top coat deposited on the bond coat, (ii) a metallic bond coat deposited on the super alloy, and (iii) a thermally grown oxide (TGO) that forms between the bond coat and top coat as the coating is exposed to elevated temperatures. Just as government transparency has waned in recent years, there have been several instances of very public national intelligence whistle blowing. • 28. Summary Of Thorstein Veblen s Theory Of Leisure Disposition Thorstein Veblen was an economist and sociologist that believed that the success of capitalism depended on people spending money on leisure activities to represent their wealth status. It was essential for him that people spend money on leisure activities so that the poor class would have the desire to emulate them and work harder to achieve that same status to experience the life of comfort. However, Richard Sennet a modern sociologist states that Veblen s theory of leisure disposition is no longer valid and argues that a person who tries to emulate the upper class only corrodes his character to the highest possible degree. Although, Sennet states that the system itself undercuts that ability to have a strong character to survive. Its not saying that Veblen is completely wrong, however they do not have the appropriate character, because no one has character anymore, so there is no reason for emulation. The ethical disposition that Sennet gives is that emulation cannot exist under the new capitalism. There are many things that need to be taken into consideration at this point and especially that Veblen lived in a old capitalistic era. Therefore, he did not take into consideration that capitalism was going to turn from being a long term contract to a short one. Taking in mind that Veblen had concrete knowledge of capitalism, he may have been able to protect his theory from Sennet s critique. It is likely that he would have probably responded to Sennet that the wealthy class individuals are secure no matter the type of economy they live in and do not need to worry about the future. It is only those who are of inferior class that are affected by these alterations of contracts because they do not have a secure trust fund to turn to for aid. They will need to deal with the problems they may face and work harder than they already do to gain that fake sense of secureness. The modern Olympic Games started only in 1896, but the ancient Olympic Games began over two thousand years before. The ancient Greek Olympics were an important part of the Greek culture and were celebrated for hundreds of years, during which the political and cultural borders shifted. The athletic games held in Olympia during ancient Greece exemplified the religious and exclusive nature of the ancient Greek society. Even though the first ancient Olympic game started in 776 BCE, the tradition of athletics in ancient Greece dates back to times before Homer. In the Odyssey, one can read about athletics and games. Although the games held in Olympia were not the only athletic tournament in Greece, it was the oldest and had the most importance. Olympia was originally a sanctuary for people to come and worship the gods. There were numerous temples and altars at the site, and many animals were sacrificed. The purpose of the games was to celebrate and honor the Greek gods. The obtained TCF was applied as magnetic adsorbent for the extraction of uranium ions from aqueous solutions. The synthesized magnetic nanoadsorbent was characterized using FT IR, XRD, Raman, BET surface area, VSM and TEM. Various parameters such as solution pH, initial concentration, sorbent dosage and rate of adsorption were investigated using batch adsorption experiments. The optimum pH was found to be 6.0 and the equilibrium was achieved in approximately 120 min. Kinetic studies indicated that pseudo second order kinetic model best describes the adsorption behavior. The adsorption isotherms were well fitted by Langmuir adsorption isotherm and the maximum adsorption capacity was evaluated to be 555.555 mg/g at 55 ⁰C. The thermodynamic parameters calculated from the adsorption data suggested that the adsorption of U (VI) onto TCF was a spontaneous and endothermic nature of process. The highest values of uranium desorption was achieved using 0.1 M HNO3 as the desorbing agent. The results indicate that TCF has potential as an adsorbent for sorption U (VI), using a simple, fast separation method for removal of uranium ions from aqueous solution. 1. John started spending unnecessary amounts of money, changed the city s purchasing process, and changing people s positions within the city government. However the disadvantages to this is that this simply may not work or it may only work up until the probationary period is over and the cycle will happen all over again. After considering all the recommendations, it was determined that the best course of action would be to have all further decisions that are made by John Bramante to be approved my the majority of the city council members. This is the best choice because this assures that the city manger and the city council consult with each other when major decisions must be made. When it comes to how to implement this recommendation, it must be broken into three phases. In the previous letters Ignatius says that through the bishop you will find unity in the Church, to the Philadelphians he says through the bishop you will protect yourselves from schism and heresy in the Church. Only Christ has the power to redeem the heretics and save them ultimately from themselves. This message to the Smyrnaeans is a very powerful message to Christianity as a whole and should be at the center piece for how a Christian is to act. With any religion or belief you will have those who are deemed heretics in the eyes of the believer. The negative way to deal with the heretics is to confront them with anger and harm but the positive way is really not to confront them at all. Nevertheless, it transpired at the age of seven. Phillis was the first African American to write and publish a poem. Her first poem was published in the Newport Mercury newspaper in 1767, six years after she was captured to work as a slave. I greatly venerate Phillis Wheatley, consequently because she had a wall that she climbed over. She was not treated equally, nevertheless, she only lived with her birth family for 7 years. Amazingly, Wheatley had lots of difficulties in her lifetime, but she never gave up, and that s what matters. Wheatley was seized from Gambia, West Africa when she was about seven years old. She was transported to the Boston docks with a shipment of refugee slaves. She was enslaved by a Boston commercialist John Wheatley and Susanna Wheatley. When Phillis was transferred, she became terribly frail and ill.
