The Walt Disney Company is a leading diversified international family entertainment and media
enterprise. At the same time, Disney also is one of the most famous names in the animation industry
for providing entertainment directed to adults and children. Walt Disney was founded by Walter Elias
Disney in year 1946. Nowadays, the company almost dominates the whole industry with its
international theme parks and a world class animation studio and business franchise. There are five
primary business segments in Disney Company, which are media networks, parks and resorts, studio

The Media Networks segment includes broadcast and cable television networks, television production
operations, television distribution, domestic television stations and radio networks and stations
(Robert, 2013). The businesses in the Media Networks segment generate revenue from fees charged to

domestic broadcast television network, from the sale to advertisers of time in programs for
commercial announcements and from other sources (Robert, 2013).

How Does Coach Carter In The Play Educatio Education
Ken Carter was a former student of Richmond High, California. He returned in 1999 to coach a high
school basketball team. This film is a sports drama film that talks about the value of respect,
teamwork, and education.
Respect is essential to strengthen a good relationship with others. In the movie, Coach Carter is
implementing the term of respect by calling each other a Sir and not using the word nigger but one
member of the team failed to do so which is Timo Cruz. Coach Carter made him leave the team
because he was disrespectful and not cooperative enough to stay in the team.
Teamwork is a set of goal that a group wants to accomplish. When Timo Cruz saw the changes
happened to the team because of how Coach Carter handles them, he asked Coach Carter to let him
play again. To get back on the team, Coach Carter gave him a task to do 2,500 push ups and 1,000
suicides, but he was not able to finish the given task and the team decided to help him so he can play
again. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Coach Carter made a contract to be signed by the team and the parents. It is about maintaining their
grades to 2.3 GPA, attending all the classes, and sitting the first row of the class. But Coach Carter
found out that team is forgetting about the agreement they had. That is why he decided to lock up the
gym. He wants the boys to realize the importance of going to college. He explained, that growing up
in Richmond are 80 percent of a chance of going to prison than college. He asked the team to go home
and think about their lives, and their parent lives. If the team decided to change their future, Coach
Carter promised them he would do everything to get them into college to have a better

Characteristics Of Paul Morel As A Modern Man
An Archetype can be defined as a primitive set of qualities and attribute, inherited deep in the
subconscious that can serve as a recurring theme or motif in Literature and Art. To determine if Paul
Morel is an archetypal modern man, one must consider: What makes a modern man? Is it the spiritual
hollowness that Eliot talks about? Is it the embodiment of Freud s psychoanalytic theories? Could it be
the rugged product of the harsh post Victorian industrialized lifestyle?
In Sons and Lovers, Lawrence focuses on the personal development of Paul Morel as he grows up
with an alcoholic and emotionally unstable father, Walter Morel, and his mother, Gertrude Morel, with
who he develops a strong bond. This relationship is the first to elaborate a developmental condition in
young boys, which Freud will later call as the Oedipal Complex . This bond will continue to shape
Paul s life. It governs his ambitions, his work, his plans for the future and his love life. What makes
Paul an interesting character in modernist literature is his psyche. He is a product of the circumstances
that he has grown up in. His mind is a blend of contradictions and conflicts, various traits that can be
owed to different instances ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He clearly encompasses the conflicted modern and post modern human mind. This is exhibited in his
indecisive behavior and procrastination. Additional conflicted feelings about love, sexuality, marriage,
family, when coupled with his narcissism, sensitive behavior and the Oedipal complex that he s
experiencing, give us a strong and realistic example of the troubled and confused mind of the modern
man. His grey personality is what differentiates him from the classical literary figures. He has flaws,
most of which greatly affect the reader s opinion of him. At times he is likeable, most often, he s not.
He s a confused set of realistic humane traits that make him an archetype for the modern

Health Emergency Of International Concern Essay
The earth as a whole is pretty stable; lives on earth remain relatively safe, growing and increasing in
population every day. Diseases and sickness comes to play now and then, but, for the most part, affect
the poor and undeveloped countries most heavy; developed countries like the U.S.A. have solutions
and vaccine for diseases and thus fear of sickness do not arise often. However, when they do, it is can
become a pandemic, a massive widespread of hazardous disease that potentially threatens the human
population. To prevent epidemics, countries formed the World Health Organization (WHO) to create
the Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) to help announce an event of an
extreme health hazard that spread (or is spreading) internationally and need international coalition to
cure or resolve. There are multiple phrases to pandemic before the PHEIC happens. To explore the
phases of a pandemic and when a PHEIC occur, I carried out simulation through a game called
Pandemic II to evaluate the phases and the reaction of the world and WHO. Before talking about the
simulation, there needs to be an understanding of the phases of a pandemic: Interpandemic phase,
Alert phases, Pandemic phase, Transition phase. Each phase carries a special role in how the world
react to solve a pandemic. The Interpandemic phase is more of a cautionary phase; nothing is
happening during this phase and life goes on normally. However, countries should be on the lookout
of potential arising

Hieronymus Bosch Essay
For my final project I chose to do a study on the artist Hieronymus Bosch, or more specifically I
decided to focus on his use of owls in his various paintings. Bosch was a very interesting lad and his
paintings lean toward the bizarre end of a normalcy spectrum. Individuals likeminded to Bosch
fascinate me. My mind does not function or view things the same way and I find it very intriguing. I
cannot even imagine what types of discussions (much less guess the probable subjects) Bosch would
have had with his fellow artists in his time.
A secondary reason I chose to explore the meanings behind the use of owls is because I have a
personal fascination with owls. I already knew that owls are well known for their association wisdom,
as well as the association with specific knowledge and erudition that can see through obscurity (and as
the bird of Athena/Minerva, the goddess of wisdom), the owl appears frequently in the emblems of
scholarly publishing houses and book stores (Biedermann, 250.) However, Bosch chose to give his
owls different, unconventional symbolic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The owl is depicted as Christ, giving the light of truth evidenced by the writing in Lucas 1:79 and
obviously portraying the owl in a positive light. The other depiction is the owl as a sinner being dark
and having fallen away from God evidenced by the passage in Leviticus 11:6 which identifies owls as
unclean creatures, therefore in a negative light. The concept of owls symbolizing the turning from
spiritual light is supported additionally through a passage from Dictionary of Symbolism: Cultural
Icons and the Meanings Behind Them in which it is explained that this new symbolic meaning is
derived from many factors including nocturnal habits, solitude, silent flight, and plaintive cry

Compare And Contrast Hiroshima And Nagasaki
August 6, 1945 around 8:15 AM the nuclear weapon by the name of Little Boy was dropped on
Hiroshima by a B 29 heavy bomber flying at high altitude. Hiroshima s location consisted of a low flat
delta in which seven rivers flowed through. Little Boy was such a powerful fifteen kiloton bomb that
it exploded in the middle of the city, demolishing everything within a one mile radius and destroying
over four square miles of the city. Since Nagasaki s bomb was more powerful than Hiroshima s bomb
Nagasaki suffered more in terms of damage than Hiroshima.
On August 9 Fat Man was detonated over Nagasaki, an area split into two valleys by a mountain. The
twenty kiloton bomb was activated in an industrial valley of the city that was surrounded by ... Show

comparable to the interior of the sun. The bombs relayed light energy that was considered to be
thermal radiation that burned cities and bodies instantly. In Hiroshima, sixty six thousand people were
killed and over sixty nine thousand were critically injured In Nagasaki, thirty nine thousand people
were killed and around twenty five thousand were injured. At the end, the final number of casualties
was between a quarter to two thirds of the population. The manner in which the people died varied,
some were killed by the radiation given off by the bombs, others died from the burns from the severe
heat, people also died by the blunt force or trauma of the debris, and some died from a mixture of
everything. For those who managed to survive, they were diagnosed with cancer from the strong
amounts of radiation that was emitted. The babies, of the pregnant women, were born with birth
defects and suffered from brain damage. It is estimated that around seventy thousand newborns were
examined in Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Included in that number, five to eight hundred of them were
examined inside of the home. During that time, there was no detection of genetic injuries. As recent as
2008, there have been new studies performed on survivors of the bombings and their ancestors that
now reveal undeniable evidence to changes in DNA, abnormality, and

How Did Stalin Affect The Sovietization Of Eastern Europe
Sovietisation of Eastern Europe 1945 1968
World war two saw a grand alliance of Britain, America and Russia created in order to defeat their
common enemy, Adolf Hitler. In pursuit of this goal they attended a number of conferences to plan
their attacks and to decide on the future of post war Europe. At Teheran in 1943 Churchill voiced
concerns about the post war situation in Eastern Europe, he was afraid that victory over the Nazis
would leave the USSR in control of Eastern Europe. To prevent this from happening he proposed that
the Anglo American s open up a second front in the Balkans. Stalin rejected this proposal as he knew
it would thwart his plan to extend his sphere of influence in Eastern Europe after the war, and insisted

While Stalin had promised that the elections would be free and fair, they were anything but. In the
1947 election the communists won 80% of the vote and a one party communist state was created. The
Catholic Church became the main opposition voice in Poland with Cardinal Wyszynski imprisoned for
his support of resistance groups. Despite this, the sovietisation of Poland lasted 40 years.
In Hungary the communists initially formed only a small part of a national government after the war.
In the 1945 election the communists only won 17% of the vote while the Smallholders Party won
60%. However, under pressure from the Soviet Union the PM Tidly was forced to appoint a
communist Rákosi as his deputy and Rajk as minister of the interior, latter position meant that the
communists controlled the police and the legal system and they used this to terrorise members of the
opposition parties. In the 1947 election the communists won 24% of the vote but by merging with the
social Democrats they were able to get the Parliament to pass a new constitution in 1949.
The coalition government in Czechoslovakia lasted longer than in other eastern bloc countries. The
democratic parties held the majority in this government with Benes as president and Jan Masaryk as
Foreign Minister. However as had happened in other eastern bloc countries a communist, Gottwald,
was appointed PM and they

My First Ever Defence Against The Dark Arts Lesson
Lesson 1: Introduction
Yesterday was my first ever Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson! I can tell it s going to be my
favourite subject, well, maybe joint favourite along with Charms. We met our Professor, Melanie
Silvers, who seems absolutely lovely. I ve heard stories about how lots of professors in the past, before
the Second Wizarding War, ended up having to leave after only one year, so I hope that doesn t happen
to Professor Silvers. We received our syllabus, which looks so exciting! So many different spells and
creatures to look at each week!
We learned two incantations yesterday; the Wand Lighting Charm and the Wand Extinguishing
Charm, and I have been practising them both in my spare time. The Wand Lighting Charm, Lumos, ...

The Wand Extinguishing Charm, Nox, is a lot easier to use. At first, it took me a few attempts to get it
right, but I can successfully use it each time I require the effects of Lumos to be removed. It feels
really exciting to be using a spell that simple requires a flick of the wrist and a short word!
Lesson 2: Bright Lights and a Little Softener
A few days ago we learned about Verdimillious and Spongify. I have since had the chance to try out
both of them!
On Monday evening, I was running through the grounds to get back into the Castle before dark, when
I tripped on a tree root and fell over. I think I was unconscious for some time and when I awoke it was
quite dark. I tried to move, but I had broken my ankle. I needed to find a way of alerting someone to
where I was. My muggle grandfather had taught me Morse code when I was younger, so I thought I
might be able to use it with Lumos to attract attention. My head hurt and I wasn t able to concentrate
properly, so after saying Lumos! I could only see a faint white light that wouldn t really attract any
attention at all. I realise now that I had forgotten to think about charging the spell properly! I took a
few moments to rest.
I thought about Verdimillious too. I had picked it up pretty easily over the last

Opposing The Legalization of Marijuana Essay
If marijuana was legal, back yard marijuana gardens would be in every neighborhood, thus kids would
be able to get it as easy as taking fruit off a neighbor s tree (Johnathan Greens). According to the
National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 62.2 percent of the 14.2 billion people who used marijuana
for the first time in one day were under the age of 18 years back in 2003. This increases by nearly 1.3
percent every year. This has become a problem due to Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) being the active
ingredient in marijuana that can become dangerous if one should take advantage of its use by either
smoking it or abusing it in its capsule/tablet form (Barr). Marijuana has been legalized for medical

With todays technology, alcohol Breathalyzer tests are given within seconds of pulling someone over
and the results are almost immediate. As for a marijuana text that would have to be developed, the
results will not be as immediate because drug tests for marijuana that are given today take up to weeks
to receive back in order for the suspect to be positive or negative. These procedures that the
government would like to take control of would be nearly impossible.
If marijuana were to be legalized, there would be no way to control its developed public smoking
habits because anyone who is around marijuana smoke has a great chance of having a contact buzz
whether you want one or not. The public indecency of getting a contact buzz from others smoke would
lead to many unnecessary lawsuits. Many of us do not want to have to worry about getting high when
walking into a store. Parents and legal guardians of children that are not old enough to make decisions
themselves will be pressured even more than they are in school today because their parents may be
smoking around them in and outside of their homes.

such as Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico,

Whether choosing a university or a junior college, they attract completely different people. Most think
Junior college does not prepare individuals for the future, but in the long run they only benefit. The
education that a junior college offers is vastly different than that of a University. Junior College tends
to have smaller classes, causing people to have personal interactions with their professors. Having

Analysis Of The Grumbling Hive, By Bernard Mandeville
The renowned economist Milton Friedman once said, Innovation comes from self interest, not
government agencies. This idea, seen as controversial and offensive to many, is at the core of Bernard
Mandeville s argument in his poem, The Grumbling Hive: or, Knaves turn d Honest. The poem
compares the working of society to a busy hive. The hive is flourishing until suddenly the bees
become honest and righteous leading them to live simple lives without a thrive community. Through
this analogy, Mandeville argues that pursuit of private vices generates public improvements and
economic prosperity, meaning, individuals tendencies to pursue their own vices, such as lust and greed
to innovation for society as a whole. This is demonstrated through the benefits of marijuana
legalization.
Mandeville addresses many aspects of degeneracy and selfishness within private life, highlighting vice
as an intrinsic and unavoidable part of . Vice, by Mandeville s standards, is an action that fulfills the
individual in some respect but is immoral, selfish, and unfair. The seven deadly sins provide a
framework for behavior that would be considered detrimental and self regarding. Mandeville, in the
poem, provides examples of such actions within all echelons of society. Mandeville writes, Physicians
valu d Fame and Wealth/ Above the dropping Patient s Health (71 72). As example of greed, medical
professionals pursuit of capital gain and social stature are the driving factor in treating patients rather
than an altruistic desire to aid humanity. Again, Mandeville displays occurrences of vice within
society by demonstrating instances of individual s pursuit of wealth at the expense of others, Their
Kings were serv d, but Knavishly,/ Cheated by their own Ministry;/ ...Robbing the very Crown they
saved (113 117). The King s own advisors and officials steal from him, greedily pursuing their own
self interests over that of the Kingdom. Mandaville is a realist in the sense that he acknowledges
humanities inherent drive to serve oneself before others and engage in immoral and corrupt behavior.
He addresses greed and dishonesty in private life without hesitation or resentment. It is this self
pursuit that Mandeville argues actually

Since their CSR plan announcement Walmart has been making progress towards achieving those goals
but many don t think it s enough or realistically sustainable for the long run. Walmart has received
backlash for their slow adoption of renewable energy, it s cheap products, and it s little progress on
their sustainability index (Gunther, M., 2011). One of Wal mart s initiatives intended to address some
of their inimical externalities is to convert to 100% renewable energy to power their stores. An article
published in 2011 stated that Walmart was powered by only 2% of renewable energy and the ILSR
came out with a report stating less than 2% of renewable energy powers Walmart stores. People were
not impressed with this minimal progress and pointed out that other companies like Starbucks and
Kohls use more renewable energy than Walmart. It was also pointed out that Wal mart is a huge

The Ineffective Use Of Shorthands In Dracula By Bram Stoker
Bram Stoker makes the argument that technological advancements are ineffective through his
representation of Harker s use of shorthand. Stoker portrays how Harker attempts to challenge the
Count by using shorthand, but yet remains vulnerable to his power due to the ineffectiveness of
modern advancements. While Harker is trapped in Dracula s castle at the beginning of the novel, he
writes in his journal in shorthand. This abbreviated form of writing allows Harker to write more
swiftly and most importantly, it ensures that his writing is unintelligible to Dracula, who is unable to
decipher the symbols and abbreviations that he uses. While Harker is confined within Dracula s castle,

Writing in shorthand is a survival strategy for Harker as he is imprisoned within the Count s castle.
His shorthand is unintelligible to the Count since it is a newly emerged method of communication and
as a result, he is able to disclose his frightening experiences in the castle to Mina since it is
unintelligible to the Count. The use of shorthand itself suggests that Victorian society is shifting to
advancements in communication that prioritize efficiency and productivity, which reflects modernity s
drive to innovate technology which transforms Victorian society as a result. Harker s use of shorthand
is presented in a way that attempts to challenge Dracula, who is old fashioned and counters modernity
as he represents the supernatural in constrast to scientific and modern progress. The novel integrates
the use of this modern advancement in order to demonstrate the contrast between modernity and
supernatural traditions as Harker finds comfort in this modern form of communication as he is

The Walking Dead Essay In The Walking Dead
The Walking Dead Essay
Imagine waking up to the zombie apocalypse. How d you feel? Would you be scared, thrilled,
confused, shocked? A mixture of them all perhaps? What would you do? Would you hide? Would you
fight back? Would you even survive?
One might not have the answers to such questions ready at hand. Most people have probably never
thought about it. But if you stood in a situation, where your life was at risk and everyone you loved
dearly might die, how d you react and how d you feel?
In The Walking Dead, all the characters have gone through exactly this. They ve all experienced the
shock, loss, confusion, despair, hopelessness, etc. They can all relate to these feelings and thoughts,
which makes them all connected in some degree. In episode one of The Walking Dead, Rick
represents humanity how every surviving human felt at the beginning, their thoughts and feelings, and
what they needed to become to survive. Basically, he represents the overall character development of
every person in TWD:
At the beginning, Rick is very confused. He doesn t know what s going on, and is horrified when he

Management Planning Paper on Arthur Andersen
In 1913, the company Arthur Andersen started by Arthur Andersen and Clarence Delany by the name
of Andersen, Delany, Co. In 1918, it was given the name Arthur Andersen Co. The company supplied
tax, consulting services and auditing for the large business, and itself had a position in the Big Five
accounting firms. In 2002, this firm was found guilty for auditing an energy corporation, Enron and it
surrendered back its rights of auditing. This led to Enron s bankruptcy and loss of 85,000 jobs. Any

The organization has to consider the stakeholders, customers, community, and employees while
performing its operations. Proper implementation of as well as the utilization of all the legal standards,
ethical standards and social responsibility standards, assist an organization in achieving growth and
success in the business environment. In the case of Arthur Anderson, the company has to focus on the
development of strategic planning and implementation for effectively performing its operations. The
three important factors influencing the company s planning are the lawful ethical and the corporate
social responsibility factors. These three factors are an essential part of any organization and the
organization must comply properly to all these factors, as they are necessary for planning in an
organization (Galbreath, 2006). The company s strategic planning is often influence by legal and
ethical factors. The legal factor of Arthur Anderson is not functioning properly and has an adverse
effect on the planning of the organization. It follows wrong and illegal accounting practices, which has
led the company into legal troubles. The company took away from their biggest and most popular

William Damon s The Death Of Honesty
William Damon s The Death of Honesty presents a solemn analysis of the decline of modern virtue
due to a dysfunctional tipping point where honesty is no longer viewed as a moral characteristic
worthy of pursuing. Dishonesty is presented as both a virtue and a vice that is shaping our
contemporary society. The Hoover Institution of Stanford University published Mr. Damon s article in
2012 under the Task Force on the Virtues of a Free Society, which would provide a target audience of
students, educators, parents or anyone with an interest in sociology, specifically in the United States. A
rhetorical analysis recognizes the appeals of ethos and pathos as successful tools in creating a
connection with the readers, yet it exposes flaws in the author s appeal of logic. The lack of developed
logic does not support his thesis that sustained civilization is in lethal danger as a result of dishonesty
alone.
The appeal of ethos is based on personal and academic achievement. As a senior fellow and professor
of Stanford University with a background in child development and psychology, Mr. Damon has the
experience to write on the subject of character development of children, as well as the failings of the
academic world. Writing in the online volume of Stanford University s Endangered Virtues further
validates the author s authority to speak on the subject. As a father, Mr. Damon would have a vested
interest in the ability of the school system to influence his children.

Paper Towns Identity Quotes
Paper towns by John Green is a fictional book that focused mainly on the topic of identity. When
Margo Roth Spiegelman goes missing, everyone assumes that she ll come back, but Quentin Jacobsen,
who is in love with Margo, wonders if something else is going on and starts to investigate. Eventually,
Quentin finds his way to Margo where he discovers that she was planning on leaving to travel around
the world to get away from all the ever changing and dull paper people. He understands her decision
and the book ends on a bittersweet note.
Quentin Jacobsen is the protagonist of the book and he is a typical character. He is characterized as

Throughout the whole book, I could clearly see many instances of literary devices being used. One of
the first things I noticed was character foil. In the prologue, when Margo and Quentin found the dead
body, Margo went up to investigate while Quentin stayed back and asked if they could tell someone
and leave. Character foil makes the personas more realistic and believable. Additionally, on page 104,
the detective told Quentin about how kids are like balloons. Some float peacefully and others strain
against the string until it snaps and they are free. This is an example of a metaphor or symbolism.
Furthermore, when Quentin was reading Moby Dick in class, I noticed that the two stories had strong
similarities. Captain Arab is chasing for the white whale, one he barely knows, because of a one time
occurrence. Likewise, Quentin (Captain Arab) is chasing after Margo (The White Whale) without
knowing who she truly

Much Ado About Nothing Lies Analysis
Much Ado About Nothing Essay
Lying is complicated in that the effects of it vary based on the motivations and character of the one
who tells it. This is prominently displayed in William Shakespeare s play Much Ado About Nothing
with foil characters Don Pedro and Don John. Don Pedro is motivated by the idea of being a good
friend, and, as a result, his lies have a positive effect on those affected. In contrast, Don John, the play
s antagonist, is motivated by revenge to lie. When he lies, these falsehoods have negative
consequences, which mirror his intentions. Thus, foil characters Don Pedro and Don John illustrate
that lies motivated by good intent have positive effects while lies motivated with ill intent have
negative consequences.

Once Claudio and Beatrice start planning their wedding, Don Pedro tricks Benedick into thinking
Beatrice is in love with him, and vice versa. This lie is similar to the lie in which he uses deceit to get
Claudio and Hero together in the first place. Afterward, Benedick says to Beatrice: There is nothing in
the world I love as much as you. (V,iv,95) [1] Don Pedro s lie, in contrast to Don John s, has the rather
positive effect of Benedick and Beatrice falling in love. The positive effects of Don Pedro s trickery
mirrors his intentions helpful. In contrast, Don John tricks Claudio into thinking Hero is unfaithful the
night before their wedding, much like how he tricked Claudio into thinking Don Pedro took Hero for
himself. Because of this, Claudio accuses: She knows the heat of a luxurious bed. Her Blush is of
guiltiness, not modesty. (IV,i,35) Claudio publicly accuses Hero of adultery, one of the most heinous
crimes of the time, and, at least temporarily, ruins their relationship based on Don John s lie. Similar
to Don Pedro s example, the effect of the malicious act matches perfectly with Don John s evil
intentions and his meddling character. Claudio s extreme reaction to this news causes Beatrice to
emotionally manipulate Benedick into dueling Claudio for defaming Hero. Thus, the comedy suggests
that the aftermath of lying depends on the

I shall not stay here... Up before day, at the clang of a bell and out the mill by the bell just as though
we were so many living machines (Hopkinson 37). Many girls, between the ages of fifteen and thirty
five, worked at textile mills during the Industrial Revolution for eleven to twelve hours a day, with
little time to catch their breath and fresh air. The Industrial Revolution started in Europe in the
eighteenth century and spread to America during the nineteenth century. Eli Whitney s invention of
interchangeable parts and mass production helped lead the American Industrial Revolution, which
started after the War of 1812 and peaked during the 1870 s. During this time period, many factories,
mills, and factory cities were constructed, one of which was Lowell, Massachusetts, and employed
women because their salaries were lower and therefore cost less. The conditions of the mills and
boarding houses that the girls lived in were unpleasant and crowded, and they could easily become ill.
Eventually, after the height of the Industrial Revolution, women fought for their rights and better
conditions in their workplaces. The Industrial Revolution changed women s roles in society, as it made
jobs that were filled by girls, put them in challenging settings, and united them to work for change in
the workforce.

The Debate On Nature Versus Nurture Essay
Noted psychologist Jerome Kagan once said Genes and family may determine the foundation on the
house, but time and place determine its form (Fraser). The debate on nature versus Nurture has been a
mystery for years now, constantly begging the question on what has a greater effect on the human
development of humans. Is human behavior, ideas, and feelings innate or are they learned over time.
Nature, or genetic influences, are formed before birth and shaped through early experiences. Genes are
viewed as long and complicated chains that are present thought life and develop over time. Nature
supporters believe that genes form a child s conscience and determine one s approach to life. Nurture
is constituted of the influence of millions of complex environmental factors that form a child s
character. Advocators of Nurture do not believe that character is predetermined by genes, but formed
over time. Since the 1600 s studies have been conducted to find the answer to what has a greater effect
on human development. The studies have shown substantial evidence that human development is
greatly affected by both the concept of Nature and Nurture. Although they are interpreted two
separated concepts, they both are needed for humans to successfully psychologically develop as they
both work contribute about the same amount in human development.
There are a numerous amounts of approaches to human development in Psychology, and many of
those approaches have a view that correlates more on the

How Did The Framers Create A Democratic Government
Asia Pratka
The United States Constitution was created in fear of protecting the people that it governed from the
government itself. The Framers pursued the Constitution to prevent the government that they had left
behind, the Monarchy of England. After the failed Articles of Confederation, they needed a strong,
balanced federal government. Leaving tyrannical England where leaders were not held accountable,
disparaging towards natural rights, and lack of consent from the people it governs. The Framers were
able to cultivate a constitution dedicated towards the people. They believed that consent from the

The people are the basis for any power that the federal government preserves and must always protect
those who empower them. The written Constitution they created was not to define the rights of the
people, but to limit the powers the national government would hold over the people. The Constitution
would create a National government that would create a strong federal government, while
safeguarding the rights of the people, and conserving checks on power it holds. The framers did not
believe in cataloging individual rights in the constitution. They believed it would be threatening to
define the rights that the people hold. Alexander Hamilton specifically believed that the Constitution
had no power to infringe on the natural rights that all people have. However, the Bill of Rights was
created from a compromise and thus, created the first ten amendments to the Constitution. These
rights listed protections from the National government. These rights have proven to be security against
the federal governments use of an enumerated power that they might hold. It is important for this very
reason to have a written Bill of Rights in the United States Constitution. It does not define what rights
the people hold, it defines what the government is entrusted to protect: the people. It is for this reason
that I agree that the Bill of Rights was necessary to be written in the

Political Corruption In The Gilded Age
The Gilded Age was a time of rapid industrialization and many mechanical advances, however the
application of intelligence to social affairs had not kept pace with the application of intelligence to
individual needs and material ends. Natural science strides forward, but political science lags. (Henry
George. Social Problems. 1883) In this quote George discusses the main problem of this time, political
corruption. This was a very significant ill that plagued the Gilded Age. Although there were many
industrial advances, the negative aspects like the overwhelming amount political corruption and the
control big businesses had on the country were more significant than any technological advances
when looking back on the era.

Understanding Literacy, And Health Literacy
Understanding Literacy, and Health Literacy
An understanding of literacy, and health literacy is crucial to understand their impact on client health
outcomes. Further, a nurse s ability to better educate clients lies in his or her understanding of these
terms. Literacy is a multilayered, dynamic and complex topic; however, in short literacy is a set of
skills including reading, writing oral skills, numeracy skills, and skills that enable us to acquire
knowledge and information (Keefe Copeland, 2011). Literacy can be understood through various
theoretical lenses. Keefe Copeland also highlight five principles we must keep in mind when thinking
about literacy (2011). Firstly, all people are capable of acquiring literacy, however methods of
acquiring literacy vary greatly. Literacy is also a human right, given its ability to shape human
experience Literacy also serves as a crucial empowerment tool. Social interaction also contributes to
literacy; it is developed through human ability to build relationships. Lastly, literacy is not the
responsibility of an individual alone. Community, and human interaction nurture literacy as well.
All clients possess a degree of health literacy, and like literacy, it is a human right. It is a client s
ability to understand written, spoken or numerical information, and make health care related decisions
based on the information (Eadie, 2014). A client s health literacy also has a social component, often

The Behavior Of Organisms, An Experimental Analysis Essay
In 1938, B.F. Skinner published The Behaviour of Organisms, An experimental analysis. The
publication documented Skinner s findings in several experiments he conducted with the aim of
explaining how organisms learn behaviours and how this knowledge could be used to teach them new
ones. Skinner was a behaviourist and was therefore interested in overt behaviours that could be
observed and recorded. In his publication, he defines behaviour as follows, Behaviour is what an
organism is doing or more accurately what it is observed by another organism to be doing. (Skinner,
1938). While classical conditioning is passive, operant conditioning requires the learner to actively
operate on their environment. Therefore, operant conditioning mainly relies on the learner making
voluntary responses, for example, pushing the buttons on a TV remote to select a desired channel. In
Skinner s experiment, the learner was a white rat who was placed in a small chamber where there is
only a lever and tray upon which food pellets were dispensed. The experiment required the rat to stand
on its hind legs and press down on the lever with a force of at least 10g in order for a food pellet to be
dispensed. Of course, the rat s first few presses of the lever would be purely accidental, but gradually
the rat learned that if he wanted a pellet, pressing down on the lever would cause one to fall into the
feeding tray. Skinner experimented further, adjusting the lever so that the rat would have to apply

Burnings of Protestants and the Failure of Mary s Religious Policy
After Mary had taken the throne from Lady Jane Grey in 1553, she had, in her view, the task of
returning the church to the state it had been in at the start of 1534. By the end of the year of her
accession, Mary had re implemented the heresy laws and by her death in November 1558, a minimum
of 287 Protestants had died in the flames at Smithfield and elsewhere across the country. At the end of
Mary s reign Protestantism was far from being suppressed, and upon the accession of Elizabeth,
England once again swung to Protestantism. England would never be officially Catholic again.

Mary had considered that policy would not be too difficult to pursue, as the country had been
officially Catholic only 10 years previous. It has been argued as to what the causes of the failure of her
religious policy actually were, and it is undisputed that there are a number of possible causes.
Historians from John Foxe (writing in 1563) to Robert Tittler (1991) have disputed the effect that the
burnings had on the populace. The initial argument was that the burnings had such a profound effect
on the people of England that they took up the new religion in favour of Catholicism. This argument
hangs on the idea that people saw the victims of the burnings being prepared to die for their faith, and
were converted as a result. Tittler talks of widespread popular witness and sympathetic reaction to the
burnings that took place under Mary[2], and David Loades concurs when he describes the burnings of

the people voted in agreement to leave. This triggered Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union,
whereby Prime Minister Theresa May is to give liable notification to exit the European Union. This

The legal issue presented before us asks if the Crown Court has the prerogative power to give

more than you care about yourself. It is almost like the golden rule, do unto others as you would have
them done onto you. This is recurring theme from Rikki Tikki Tavi, the mongoose constantly puts
himself in harms way to save the family that had nursed him back to health. Rikki Tikki has gone out
of his way to help others despite them not doing anything in return. From saving the life of Teddy, to
saving everyone living in the bungalow.
In the first part of the story Rikki Tikki helps the birds bring justice to Nag, the snake who ate the
baby bird the nest. Darzee and his wife told Rikki Tikki about what just happened, they say that ...

He once more risked his life by saving the big man, he could have been beaten to death. He threw
himself to kill Nag and held tightly as he was being banged against the walls while Nag was trying to
get rid of Rikki Tikki. He braced for death, but all that came was Nag s death. The brave mongoose
even saved the lives of the family as a whole. He saved them when Nagaina was threatening to kill the
whole family if they did not move or if they did she would also kill them. Rikki Tikki had come with
one egg in his mouth to bargain with Nagaina about not killing the family. He fought Nagaina, and
chased her away from the table where Teddy s family was eating. He ricked being killed by Nagaina
when he went to down a hole. Mongooses that are young are known not to survive this event, yet
Rikki Tikki did. He risked a very sad death for the sake of the family.
Rikki Tikki basically saved all of the creatures from the bungalow from Nag and Nagaina. Rikki Tikki
wanted the bungalow free of snakes, just like a mongoose would have it. He did the favor the birds
asked him to help them with and stayed with the plan the whole time. He stayed even though the one
snake problem ended up being a much bigger snake problem. He did the family a favor back in
exchange for them saving his life, Rikki Tikki saved them as well. In fact he did the whole bungalow a
favor for killing the snakes, the text mentioned it on page 243, that the birds were singing and the
frogs were croaking.

Roll Of Thunder Hear My Cry Analysis
The book, Roll Of Thunder Hear My Cry is regarding segregation plus conflicts among figures such
of diverse races and also the ambiguity within the main characters and personas who soon obtain their
way into the family s life. The main characters, Cassie, Little Man, Big Ma, Momma, and Papa. It all
started with Cassie heading to school with her two brothers, Stacy and Little Man. On their way to
school, a boy named T J and his brother approached Cassie and her brothers to tell them that a family
that lived on a farm like house were burned to death by a group of people called The Wallace Brothers
. So, of course, this disturbed Stacey, Cassie, and Little man. At the time Cassie and Little Man did not
perceive how segregation or discrimination works or what it is, which later on carried some disputes
since they did not know there were certain objects/materials whites used which they couldn t. At the
time Cassie s Father, Papa had gone to work on a railroad for from the family but one day Papa
unexpectedly returned back to the family with a man behind him, the man s name was Mr. Morrison
which will, later on, help out the Logans in many ways. Once it was the season of fall, the kids had to
walk day after day to school on the mud. Not only that, but they were also splashed by the resentful
bus driver of the white students. But since Cassie and her brothers were annoyed by this, one morning
before the bus sped through and splashed them, Cassie and Stacey dug as fast as

Renaissance Anatomy And Dissection
The Renaissance was a time period in history that came with a plethora of changes in art, religion, and
science. Considered one of the most beautiful eras thus far, it shaped the modern age. Curiosity
peaked in people everywhere in Europe; this curiosity included fascination with the human body and
new research. Dissection gained popularity and importance during the Renaissance, which led to body
snatching becoming common; both of these activities gave way to new advancements. Dissection of
human bodies became popular during the Renaissance time as people started to redraw and disprove
previous beliefs about human anatomy. Interest in anatomy grew for artistic and medical purposes.
Artists such as Raphael and Michelangelo began ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They found grave robbing, or resurrecting a body, disgusting. Resurrecting a Christian body was
sacrilege, meaning it violated something sacred. (Lawrence). Family members even watched over
graves at night and implemented other means of protecting their loved ones bodies. Some would
install grave alarms or use iron coffins to discourage resurrectionists ( Body Snatching Around the
World ). Body snatching was only one way of acquiring cadavers for research. Some methods were
legal, others were illegal. Legal acquiries of bodies included: deaths where foul play was suspected, a
donated body from a family, and executed felons (Lawrence). Heresy, treason, murder, robbery,
larceny, rape, and arson were all crimes that could be punishable by death, allowing the bodies to be
used for dissection. In fact, King Henry showed his support for the use of executed felons bodies when
he . . . authorized a law in 1540 giving surgeons the bodies of four hanged criminals a year ( Crime
and Punishment in Elizabethan England ). The illegal methods of acquiring bodies included grave
robbing and taking the unclaimed bodies of the poor. This new age of anatomical research led to
advancements in the knowledge of the human body. Andreas Vesalius fueled the fire with his
discoveries and changed the way people viewed anatomy. Some of his contradictory discoveries
included:

The Pros And Cons Of Labor Relations
In the U.S. labor relations, a group of employees who desire to bargain collectively rather than
individually, are those who typically form a union (Dooley, 1957). This demonstrates to the employer
that the majority of its employees support the union and the organizing process begins. First,
employees cannot form a union without abiding by certain basic procedural steps and legal standards
that are required. Decisions to vote against or for a union are based on factors such as satisfaction with
their job, beliefs of the effectiveness of the union, and the culture or social environment in which the
employee works. Next, when an employer exerts undue punishment to an employee who the employer
suspects as being an illegal alien, this may be poor public policy. From a legal perspective, a recent
federal court case, Singh v. Jutla C.D. R. Oil, Inc., 214 F. Supp. 2d 1056 (N.D. Cal. 2002) spoke to
this issue. In this case, when the plaintiff Singh filed a wage claim under the Fair Labor Standards Act
(FLSA), the employer fired him and reported him to INS as an illegal alien (Labor Law, 1969).
Likewise, the union certification process which was established by the National Labor Relations Act
(NLRA) in 1935 was a victory for workers waning union representation upon its initial
implementation. Workers could petition the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) for a
determination made democratically of whether a majority of workers favored unionization (Labor
Law, 1969). This effort

Characteristics Of Paul Morel As A Modern Man An Archetype can be defined as a primitive set of qualities and attribute, inherited deep in the subconscious that can serve as a recurring theme or motif in Literature and Art. To determine if Paul Morel is an archetypal modern man, one must consider: What makes a modern man? Is it the spiritual hollowness that Eliot talks about? Is it the embodiment of Freud s psychoanalytic theories? Could it be the rugged product of the harsh post Victorian industrialized lifestyle? In Sons and Lovers, Lawrence focuses on the personal development of Paul Morel as he grows up with an alcoholic and emotionally unstable father, Walter Morel, and his mother, Gertrude Morel, with who he develops a strong bond. This relationship is the first to elaborate a developmental condition in young boys, which Freud will later call as the Oedipal Complex . This bond will continue to shape Paul s life. It governs his ambitions, his work, his plans for the future and his love life. What makes Paul an interesting character in modernist literature is his psyche. Diseases and sickness comes to play now and then, but, for the most part, affect the poor and undeveloped countries most heavy; developed countries like the U.S.A. have solutions and vaccine for diseases and thus fear of sickness do not arise often. However, when they do, it is can become a pandemic, a massive widespread of hazardous disease that potentially threatens the human population. To prevent epidemics, countries formed the World Health Organization (WHO) to create the Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) to help announce an event of an extreme health hazard that spread (or is spreading) internationally and need international coalition to cure or resolve. There are multiple phrases to pandemic before the PHEIC happens. To explore the phases of a pandemic and when a PHEIC occur, I carried out simulation through a game called Pandemic II to evaluate the phases and the reaction of the world and WHO. Before talking about the simulation, there needs to be an understanding of the phases of a pandemic: Interpandemic phase, Alert phases, Pandemic phase, Transition phase. Each phase carries a special role in how the world react to solve a pandemic. The Interpandemic phase is more of a cautionary phase; nothing is happening during this phase and life goes on normally. However, countries should be on the lookout of potential arising ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Hieronymus Bosch Essay For my final project I chose to do a study on the artist Hieronymus Bosch, or more specifically I decided to focus on his use of owls in his various paintings. Bosch was a very interesting lad and his paintings lean toward the bizarre end of a normalcy spectrum. Individuals likeminded to Bosch fascinate me. My mind does not function or view things the same way and I find it very intriguing. I cannot even imagine what types of discussions (much less guess the probable subjects) Bosch would have had with his fellow artists in his time. A secondary reason I chose to explore the meanings behind the use of owls is because I have a personal fascination with owls. I already knew that owls are well known for their association wisdom, as well as the association with specific knowledge and erudition that can see through obscurity (and as the bird of Athena/Minerva, the goddess of wisdom), the owl appears frequently in the emblems of scholarly publishing houses and book stores (Biedermann, 250.) • 12. Analysis Of The Grumbling Hive, By Bernard Mandeville The renowned economist Milton Friedman once said, Innovation comes from self interest, not government agencies. This idea, seen as controversial and offensive to many, is at the core of Bernard Mandeville s argument in his poem, The Grumbling Hive: or, Knaves turn d Honest. The poem compares the working of society to a busy hive. The hive is flourishing until suddenly the bees become honest and righteous leading them to live simple lives without a thrive community. Through this analogy, Mandeville argues that pursuit of private vices generates public improvements and economic prosperity, meaning, individuals tendencies to pursue their own vices, such as lust and greed to innovation for society as a whole. This is demonstrated through the benefits of marijuana legalization. Mandeville addresses many aspects of degeneracy and selfishness within private life, highlighting vice as an intrinsic and unavoidable part of . Vice, by Mandeville s standards, is an action that fulfills the individual in some respect but is immoral, selfish, and unfair. The seven deadly sins provide a framework for behavior that would be considered detrimental and self regarding. As example of greed, medical professionals pursuit of capital gain and social stature are the driving factor in treating patients rather than an altruistic desire to aid humanity. The King s own advisors and officials steal from him, greedily pursuing their own self interests over that of the Kingdom. The Hoover Institution of Stanford University published Mr. Damon s article in 2012 under the Task Force on the Virtues of a Free Society, which would provide a target audience of students, educators, parents or anyone with an interest in sociology, specifically in the United States. A rhetorical analysis recognizes the appeals of ethos and pathos as successful tools in creating a connection with the readers, yet it exposes flaws in the author s appeal of logic. The lack of developed logic does not support his thesis that sustained civilization is in lethal danger as a result of dishonesty alone. The appeal of ethos is based on personal and academic achievement. As a senior fellow and professor of Stanford University with a background in child development and psychology, Mr. Damon has the experience to write on the subject of character development of children, as well as the failings of the academic world. Writing in the online volume of Stanford University s Endangered Virtues further validates the author s authority to speak on the subject. As a father, Mr. Damon would have a vested interest in the ability of the school system to influence his children. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout the whole book, I could clearly see many instances of literary devices being used. One of the first things I noticed was character foil. In the prologue, when Margo and Quentin found the dead body, Margo went up to investigate while Quentin stayed back and asked if they could tell someone and leave. Character foil makes the personas more realistic and believable. Additionally, on page 104, the detective told Quentin about how kids are like balloons. Some float peacefully and others strain against the string until it snaps and they are free. This is an example of a metaphor or symbolism. Furthermore, when Quentin was reading Moby Dick in class, I noticed that the two stories had strong similarities. Captain Arab is chasing for the white whale, one he barely knows, because of a one time occurrence. • 24. Much Ado About Nothing Lies Analysis Much Ado About Nothing Essay Lying is complicated in that the effects of it vary based on the motivations and character of the one who tells it. This is prominently displayed in William Shakespeare s play Much Ado About Nothing with foil characters Don Pedro and Don John. Don Pedro is motivated by the idea of being a good friend, and, as a result, his lies have a positive effect on those affected. In contrast, Don John, the play s antagonist, is motivated by revenge to lie. When he lies, these falsehoods have negative consequences, which mirror his intentions. This lie is similar to the lie in which he uses deceit to get Claudio and Hero together in the first place. Afterward, Benedick says to Beatrice: There is nothing in the world I love as much as you. (V,iv,95) [1] Don Pedro s lie, in contrast to Don John s, has the rather positive effect of Benedick and Beatrice falling in love. The positive effects of Don Pedro s trickery mirrors his intentions helpful. In contrast, Don John tricks Claudio into thinking Hero is unfaithful the night before their wedding, much like how he tricked Claudio into thinking Don Pedro took Hero for himself. Because of this, Claudio accuses: She knows the heat of a luxurious bed. Her Blush is of guiltiness, not modesty. Similar to Don Pedro s example, the effect of the malicious act matches perfectly with Don John s evil intentions and his meddling character. Claudio s extreme reaction to this news causes Beatrice to emotionally manipulate Benedick into dueling Claudio for defaming Hero. Up before day, at the clang of a bell and out the mill by the bell just as though we were so many living machines (Hopkinson 37). Many girls, between the ages of fifteen and thirty five, worked at textile mills during the Industrial Revolution for eleven to twelve hours a day, with little time to catch their breath and fresh air. The Industrial Revolution started in Europe in the eighteenth century and spread to America during the nineteenth century. Eli Whitney s invention of interchangeable parts and mass production helped lead the American Industrial Revolution, which started after the War of 1812 and peaked during the 1870 s. During this time period, many factories, mills, and factory cities were constructed, one of which was Lowell, Massachusetts, and employed women because their salaries were lower and therefore cost less. The conditions of the mills and boarding houses that the girls lived in were unpleasant and crowded, and they could easily become ill. Eventually, after the height of the Industrial Revolution, women fought for their rights and better conditions in their workplaces. The Industrial Revolution changed women s roles in society, as it made jobs that were filled by girls, put them in challenging settings, and united them to work for change in the workforce. The debate on nature versus Nurture has been a mystery for years now, constantly begging the question on what has a greater effect on the human development of humans. Is human behavior, ideas, and feelings innate or are they learned over time. Nature, or genetic influences, are formed before birth and shaped through early experiences. Genes are viewed as long and complicated chains that are present thought life and develop over time. Nature supporters believe that genes form a child s conscience and determine one s approach to life. Nurture is constituted of the influence of millions of complex environmental factors that form a child s character. The Constitution would create a National government that would create a strong federal government, while safeguarding the rights of the people, and conserving checks on power it holds. The framers did not believe in cataloging individual rights in the constitution. They believed it would be threatening to define the rights that the people hold. However, the Bill of Rights was created from a compromise and thus, created the first ten amendments to the Constitution. These rights listed protections from the National government. Literacy is a multilayered, dynamic and complex topic; however, in short literacy is a set of skills including reading, writing oral skills, numeracy skills, and skills that enable us to acquire knowledge and information (Keefe Copeland, 2011). Literacy can be understood through various theoretical lenses. Keefe Copeland also highlight five principles we must keep in mind when thinking about literacy (2011). Firstly, all people are capable of acquiring literacy, however methods of acquiring literacy vary greatly. Literacy is also a human right, given its ability to shape human experience Literacy also serves as a crucial empowerment tool. Social interaction also contributes to literacy; it is developed through human ability to build relationships. Lastly, literacy is not the responsibility of an individual alone. The publication documented Skinner s findings in several experiments he conducted with the aim of explaining how organisms learn behaviours and how this knowledge could be used to teach them new ones. Skinner was a behaviourist and was therefore interested in overt behaviours that could be observed and recorded. In his publication, he defines behaviour as follows, Behaviour is what an organism is doing or more accurately what it is observed by another organism to be doing. (Skinner, 1938). While classical conditioning is passive, operant conditioning requires the learner to actively operate on their environment. Therefore, operant conditioning mainly relies on the learner making voluntary responses, for example, pushing the buttons on a TV remote to select a desired channel. In Skinner s experiment, the learner was a white rat who was placed in a small chamber where there is only a lever and tray upon which food pellets were dispensed. The experiment required the rat to stand on its hind legs and press down on the lever with a force of at least 10g in order for a food pellet to be dispensed. Of course, the rat s first few presses of the lever would be purely accidental, but gradually the rat learned that if he wanted a pellet, pressing down on the lever would cause one to fall into the feeding tray. Historians from John Foxe (writing in 1563) to Robert Tittler (1991) have disputed the effect that the burnings had on the populace. The initial argument was that the burnings had such a profound effect on the people of England that they took up the new religion in favour of Catholicism. This argument hangs on the idea that people saw the victims of the burnings being prepared to die for their faith, and were converted as a result.
