18. PARENTS & TECHNOLOGY
For many parents, connecting with teachers and
staying in the loop about their child’s progress
in school is of the utmost importance. In an
increasingly digital age with increasingly busy
parents, there is a demand for highly
accessible ways for parents to connect with
teachers and vice versa.
19. IMPORTANCE OF PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT
- Improves children’s morale, attitude, and academic achievement
- Promotes better behaviour and social adjustment
- Leads to improved educational performance
- Fosters better student classroom behaviour
- Increases support of schools
- Improves school attendance
- Creates a better understanding of roles and relationships
between and among the parent-student-school triad
- Improves student emotional well-being
- Quality of parent involvement affect results for students, parents,
and teachers (Mount Royal University, 2012)
35. TIPS FOR COMMUNICATING WITH PARENTS ONLINE
• Tone – pay attention to punctuation, wording, etc. so nothing
can be misinterpreted
• Clear concise language
• Use both Positive and Negative communication (more so
positive)
• Use as a diverse function – celebrate learning, (i.e. pictures,
share work, etc.), communication of needs
• Know your audience – share only students work, pictures,
behaviour logs, etc. with the child’s parent.
• Serious issues on the phone – do not talk to parents about
serious classroom issues online, the more personal the better
