Gender And Openness At Experience
Gender and Openness to Experience Sydney Holst Arizona State University: PSY 290 Abstract
The relationship between gender and openness to experience was examined. Arizona State
University undergraduate students participated in taking a Goldberg based Big Five survey to
measure their openness to experience. Women had higher levels of openness to experience
compared to men. These findings suggest that there is a relationship between gender and the
personality trait of openness to experience. Gender and Openness to Experience From the
beginning of one s life, people interact with one another, immediately creating new relationships.
The type of relationships humans develop is determined by an individual s personality. Based upon
the Big Five Factor Model, there are five broad personality traits to describe humans (Costa, 1992).
The Big Five traits are openness to experience, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and
neuroticism (Matthews, Deary, Whiteman, 2003). This five factor model has been the basis of
many studies within the field of psychology. Previous research has examined gender differences in
the Big Five personality traits in fifty five nations (Schmidt, Realo, Voracek, Allik, 2008). Schmidt,
Realo, Voracek, and Allik (2008) found that across the fifty five nations there was no significance in
average. They found that women reported higher in average conscientiousness, extraversion,
agreeableness, and neuroticism than

Hillary Clinton Women s Rights Are Human Rights Speech...
In the past, women didn t have as many rights as men. They were seen as men s possessions who
were only allowed to cook, clean, and make babies. Women weren t allowed as many privileges
as men such as voting. But as the years went by, changes were made. Women were granted many
of the same privileges as men, but they were still being mistreated in some perspectives. On
September 5, 1995 in Beijing, China, Hillary Clinton delivered a speech about this issue at the
United NationsFourth World Conference for Women in front of 180 countries. Her speech was
called Women s Rights are Human Rights. She gave this speech to express her concern over the
mistreatment women have been facing. Clinton directed her speech to governments and other
organizations to argue why they need to help improve women s rights. Clinton uses ethos, pathos,
and logos to persuade her audience that women should be treated equally. Clinton uses ethos in
her speech to persuade her audience by showing them your credibility. Ethos is an effective way
to persuade an audience. This helps to show the audience that the speaker knows what they re
talking about. As First Lady and Senator, Clinton shows she has credibility on the topic by saying
Over the past 25 years, I have worked persistently on issues relating to women, children, and
families. Over the past two and a half years. I ve has the opportunity to learn more about the
challenges facing women in my own country and around the world (Clinton 2).

Summary
Sentinal Fire Protection Ltd (SFP) is a company that design and specialises in the design and
manufacture of fire detection and extinguishing systems for aircrafts. SFP have been tasked with
carrying out tests on a new fire extinguishant named Agent H3.
Due to the findings conducted in 1994 as per the Montreal Protocol (a protocol to the Vienna
Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer), the commonly used fire extinguishing agent
Halon 1301 ceased production. Halon 1301 is a CFC (chlorofluorocarbon) gas, which the Montreal
Protocol concluded, had a tendency to significantly breakdown the earths ozone layer. The
termination of Halon 1301 prompted the need for a CFC free replacement fire extinguishing agent.
The replacement extinguishant, Agent H3 was tested by SFP under controlled conditions which
simulated a bulk load cargo fire inside a compartment with a volume of 58m3. The effectiveness of
Agent H3 was constantly monitored through thermocouples and data loggers. It s efficiency as a
fire suppressant was based on two criterion set by the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration), the
temperature acceptance criterion and the maximum time/temp criterion, with the outcome of a
lower result being more effective. These results would then be compared with the known results of
Halon 1301 being subjected to the same tests.
The results concluded that Agent H3

Essay on Arthur Mervyn
Charles Brockden Brown s novel, Arthur Mervyn, has been read by people across America from
the late eighteenth century up until today. Brown targeted many audiences in this novel but there
is one in particular that not only had an impact on people then, but can still captivate many in
today s society. That specific group involves people who are fighting an incurable illness, such as
the Yellow Fever, as described in the book. Although it was written in the late 1700 s, people in the
twenty first century can still relate to the characters in the book, and understand what they were
feeling at that time. The goal of this paper is to show that Brown s main intended audience was
towards the incurably sick and that even over two hundred... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I felt as if I inhaled a poisonous and subtle fluid...some fatal influence seemed to seize upon my
vitals; and the work of corrosion and decomposition to be busily begun (144). People often times
make assumptions about things when they don t really know what is going on. This is still the
case in today s time, when people assume the cause is one thing when it could be something
completely different. Mervyn seemed to know at this point that he was destined to die. Most of the
fever victims had no hopes of living once they contracted the illness. He later found sanctuary in
the home of Welbeck, in hopes of breathing his last there, stating, All I sought was the privilege of
dying alone (182).
The Yellow Fever is no different than many incurable diseases that we are fighting in today s
society, such as AIDS, Hepatitis A B, Herpes, certain Cancers, Ebola and the Killer Flu. When a
person contacts some incurable disease, they must learn to live the rest of their lives with it, no
matter how long that may be. Victims of these diseases can read Arthur Mervynand relate to the

The Presence Of Rat Model Of Parkinson s Disease Induced...
The present study was established to show revealed the presence of neurochemical and
histopathological changes in the cerebellum of rat model of Parkinson s disease induced by the
intrastriatal injection of rotenone. This may change the strategy of the disease treatment that
depends mainly on the restoration of dopaminelevels in the basal ganglia.
The present findings showed the development of hyperexcitability in the cerebellum of rat model of
PD induced by intrastriatal injection of rotenone. This was indicated from the significant increase in
the excitatory amino acid neurotransmitters; glutamate and aspartate and the significant decrease
in the inhibitory amino acids; GABA, glycine and taurine. These neurotransmitters are involved in
many functions such as motor behavior, cognition, and emotion (Ottersen and Storm Mathisen,
1986, Schmidt et al., 1992)1,2. The balance between excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmission is
important for brain to sustain proper neuronal function (Mel et al., 2004)[1]. Perturbation in
glutamatergic and GABAergic neurotransmission is associated with several neurological and
psychiatric disorders (Sanacora et al., 2004) (3) [glutamate gaba balance 1].

performance of various upper limb movements (Rascol et al., 1997; Catalan et al., 1999; Wu and

paper is to look further in depth at Sheen s exclusive interview with the Today Show and

Furthering these reports, one woman recorded her conversations with Sheen about these
allegations. In the conversation she is heard asking Sheen why he did not tell her that he was

After all these reports came into light, Sheen decided to take action and put an end to these
smear campaigns . Late November 2015, Sheen appeared on the Today Show to speak out on his
health issues and be interview by Matt Lauer. The transcript, provided by LYBIO.net, between
Lauer and Sheen will be broken up into parts based off of the use of an image repair strategy, to
which I will then analyze and evaluate each strategy used in that individual statement. To refer to

Indignation, By Philip Roth
Indignation, by Philip Roth, is narrated by Marcus Messner, a young man from Newark, New
Jersey, set in the early 1950 s. Marcus is dead, reflecting on the critical events of his life leading
up to his downfall. He believes these events were causally related; if one event in his life ended
differently, his death could have been avoided. Marcus laments his misfortune as an unlucky
soul. His mother calls him defiant, as if it is a natural characteristic that all Messners, and
followers of Bertrand Russell inherently possess. While Marcus sees himself as a victim,
deprived of his true potential, the reality is in stark contrast. He is not a victim of a series of
mishaps ; Marcus died because of his failure to understand people and his... Show more content on

he believes gives rise to those concerns. Marcus accuses his father of being crazy and calls the
constant surveillance insufferable (8 9). He essentially runs away from home to Winesburg college
in Ohio to escape his father.
His lack of understanding and his running from problems does not end with his move to
Winesburg, neither does his father s surveillance. His father s questioning continues and his father
sends over Sonny Cottler, a son of his friend, to check up on Marcus so that he has someone he
knows away from home. Sonny Cottler is the president of the Jewish fraternity and is well known
on campus (44 45). Instead of accepting his father s help in making friends and getting settled in a
foreign environment, he asks his father to stop sending visitors. He then remains mostly antisocial
throughout his time at Winesburg. His father simply wants him to have a familiar face around
which Marcus cannot comprehend. He mostly avoids speaking to his father during his time there to
avoid dealing with his questions.
The dean summons Marcus because he petitions to change rooms twice, after he fails to understand
and establish common ground with either set of roommates. The dean inquires about Marcus

Shale Gas Fracking Research Paper
Abstract This paper presents an initial argument regarding the presently booming economy of shale
gas extraction within the United Kingdom. The extraction of shale gas, as it has been in the United
States, has not been without its due challenges. Hence, it is imperative to consider the views of the
government regarding this arising economy change. Moreover, in this paper, the regulatory
framework present to maintain and control the extraction of shale gas and all of its supplementary
practices has been presented in this paper. A qualitative methodology of examination has been
suggested for the evaluation of the research questions presented and it is recommended that such an
examination is likely to add to the knowledge of the policymakers and the investors. The study
concludes with pointing out the implications for the aforementioned stakeholders. Introduction

Team Building
Team building is ...an effective approach to improving teamwork and task accomplishments...
(Cummings and Worley, 2009). Teams are an integral part of Superb Caterers Ltd, and there are
two methods used by the management to build teams; a formal and an informal method.
Formally, the Managing Director and Operations Manager sit on a day to day basis and look at
workflow, geographical location of employees, and most importantly client suitability. If a client
has requested a particular employee due to past experiences, the organisation tries its best to
accommodate. The Human Resource Manager also gives input on how to make teams more
productive. She sits with the various teams and ensure that they know what goals they are
working towards (the organisational goals and missions), and updating them on their competitors.
This instils a sense of unity in working towards a common goal. Employees, however, do not get a
say with whom they wish to work with in a team as this can arise to conflict. As a result, it is left
strictly up to the managers observations of various factors, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Team building must take into consideration all of these roles, and must obtain the optimum balance.
If team members have similar weaknesses, the whole team may tend to have that weakness. If
members have similar strengths, they may tend to compete rather than cooperate for the team tasks
and responsibilities that best suit their natural styles (Gambari Isiaka, 2013). This would be the
main weakness of team building; a perfect balance of team member roles may not be achievable.
However, managers should try to ensure that the members of the teams being built have a healthy
mix of various team member roles so that ideal performance may

Pros And Cons Of Conformity
John F. Kennedy once said, Conformity is the jailer of freedom and the enemy of growth. There are
countless opinions, studies, and surveys such as these, which contribute a negative gist towards
conformity. Most individuals concentrate on how conformity damages, and destructs; and very
rarely focus on the constructive and favorable aspects of conformism. No one stops to understand
why people conform in the first place. Conformitybenefits society in several ways and contradictory
to most beliefs, not everybody conforms.
Conformity is a vital part of developing a collective identity. While some might debate that
conformity restricts a lot of social liberty within individuals; the other perspective views conformity

John Bowlby And Mary Ainsworth s Attachment Theories
John Bowlby and Mary Ainsworth s attachment theories derive from the idea that in early
development infants develop different attachment behaviors in relation to their caregivers. This
emotional bond between an infant and their parents can have an enduring impact on future
relationships throughout an individual s life. Research has shown that there does not have to be a
biological component for an infant to bond with a parent. Instead the bond or attachment is related
to quality and quantity of interaction between parent and child. (Boyd, Bee, p. 130) There are four
main attachment styles; secure attachment, insecure/avoidant attachment, insecure/ambivalent
attachment, and insecure/disorganized attachment. (Boyd, Bee, p. 133) Each of the four attachment
styles come with a variety of associated characteristics and behaviors. For example: a child who
develops a secure attachment will be an active explorer, easily soothed, and prefers their mother
over a stranger. In comparison an infant who develops an insecure/avoidant attachment avoid
contact with their mother and has no preference in interaction with their mother over a stranger.
Insecure children will not resist interaction from their mother, but they do not seek. Infants who
have secure attachment will often seek contact and interaction with their mother. (Boyd, Bee, p.

Comparing Plato s The Republic
What mix of traits creates the perfect ruler? Some may say charisma, personability, or even good
looks. Throughout history, a plethora of leaders with different views have been successful for
many different kinds of societies. Depending on what the society needs, rulers change their ways
as well as do what they can for the good of their people. In Platos The Republic, the character
Socrates argues with his peers about what makes the perfect society, as well as the perfect leader.
According to Plato, the wisest choice for a ruler in a near perfect society is a philosopher,
containing multiple important attributes. A wide variety of characteristics are covered, yet Plato
seems to focus in on several key foundations. Plato s views on essential traits of a philosopher focus
on the necessity of truthand thirst for knowledge. Perhaps the most important trait of a philosopher
is the ability to learn. This trait is important because if it pains a philosopher to learn, they can t
be expected to enjoy it or have much success (486 c). The idea of constantly wanting more
knowledge is abundant. Plato often states that a yearning for knowledge will come at a young age,
and that it won t be easy (485 d). Searching for knowledge is a lifelong commitment that takes
dedication and persistence. He also gives a counter example while talking about the timarchic
character as well as the oligarchic society. Due to an imperfect education, the timarchic leader will
have inner conflict when it

An Analysis Of William And Co Authors Book
Introduction
Chapter Two of William and co authors book Research Methods particularly focuses on the
importance of ethics (pg.34). A combination of intentional diction, imagery and narration coupled
with an authoritative tone has been used to handle the key issues in this chapter. Deliberate contrast
between the traditional and current perspectives of ethics and its evolution has been employed to
explain and emphasize the need for ethical research work. Through these literary devices and style,
the authors emphasis on ethics despite the fact that it is not enforceable by law is made clear. This
excerpt analyzes how these authors have landed their points on ethics home.
Foundation of ethics in research work
To begin with, the author chooses to use the pronoun you to draw attention towards the foundation
of ethics in research work (pg.34). The use of this pronoun on the introduction is deliberate as the
author wants to put emphasis by making anyone reading the book feel part and parcel of the issue

The Importance Of Firearms In Schools
Recent polls conducted across the United States surveying students about concealed weapon
carry laws show that almost eighty percent of students oppose the concealed carrying of firearms
on school campuses. Only five percent of students said they believe that carrying firearms on
campus would prevent school shootings or other violent acts relating to carrying guns on
campus (Book 22). Overall, the majority of American students oppose concealed carry laws and
are concerned about the safety of themselves and or others if they attend a school that allows
concealed carrying. Lately, the debate over whether or not concealed carry laws should be
allowed or not on school campuses has slowly been disappearing. If so many students across the
United States are concerned about firearms on their own school campus then, therefore, the rest
of the U.S. should be too. Currently, many states allow each school to choose if firearms should
be allowed on their campuses, however, firearms should not be allowed at all in schools across the
United States. There are more possibilities for firearms to have a bad impact rather than a good
impact on campuses including increases in crime and theft, concerns of safety, and the possibility
of firearms being stolen and used. The most important concern about allowing guns to be carried on
campuses is, of course, the safety of the students, teachers, administrators, and visitors. Firearms in
the hands of students or anyone else on campus endanger everyone

Zeitoun Labeling Theory
Zeitoun is a book, written by Dave Eggers, that focuses on the 2005 disaster, Hurricane Katrina,
through an Islamic family. Zeitoun and has wife Kathy live in Baton Rouge with their four
children. Once Kathy discovers the severity of the storm she leaves with her children, and Zeitoun

to a high security prison. Throughout his imprisonment he was denied his basic rights any
American citizen deserved. Zeitoun was held in prison for a month, leaving his family panicking
and clueless of his whereabouts. The only explanation for being denied his rights, and traumatizing

Harvel Gill And Its Impact On The Asian American Community
4 years, passed exams to become a certified LVN. She now works at a hospital in California as a
LVN, but her education and qualifications does not stop her co workers or the visitors from
making anti immigrant comments. Harvel Gill has had similar experiences working as a truck
driver. Most of the discrimination he has faced is in his workplace where people at his worksite
would have commented about how immigrants were taking over the trucking business and taking
from Americans . In California, many truck drivers are Punjabi Americans. Often times white
Americans seem to not see Indian Americans as Americans. They define the term American as
someone is white or at the very least born in America.

The folks behind 9/11 were people of the Islamic faith, because of media portrayals and
misinformation a lot of people blamed all Muslims for the September 11 Attack. However, the post
9/11 reactions of bigotry also heavily impacted the Sikh population in America who are known to
wear turbans. Turbans were seen as a symbol of terrorism in post 9/11 America and even today
are negatively triggering items for miseducated Americans. After 9/11 members of the Sikh faith
were shot, beat up, bullied, yelled at, pushed, and countless other things. Gurpinder Gill recalls
the Gurdwara committees, high offices in the Sikh American community, warning folks about the
dangers of being outside and wearing a turban in America. They requested Sikhs to avoid public
spaces as much as possible. Harvel Gill s parents were fond of walking in public parks, but after
the beating of a Sikh man near their town, they stopped. It was not safe to be Sikh in America. This
heavily reflects the experiences of Chinese people after the American car industry dilapidated due
to fierce Japanese competition. Chinese folks were mistakenly identified as Japanese and targeted
in hate crimes. One was even killed, Vincent Chin. There is a common theme in Asian American
history of Asian Americans being mislabelled and differences between Asian American
communities being blurred. Some White Americans attack Sikhs because they are ignorant on
differences in the Asian American community and can only see turbans as a symbol of hate.
Which is very interesting considering the turban has the exact opposite meaning of hate and
terrorism. The turban is a symbol of equality, justice, and of Sikhism. Harvel Gill also recalls the
day in 2012 when a man named Wade Michael Page walked into a Gurdwara and killed six people.

Essay on Shady Trail Case Study
Executive Summary After analyzing the numbers and the market and property factors involved
with Shady Trail, it is my opinion that this property is a reasonable one to invest in. It meets the
criteria we had previously set forth in choosing an investment property as both the IRR and the
current cash flows are in excess of the minimum we mandated. These numbers require that the
assumptions we use in market rent, cap rate in 2003, vacancy rate, and our plans to sell the
investment after 5 years all hold. If one of these assumptions doesn t hold and the 5 year
projection is below expectations, it can still be remedied by holding the asset for a longer time
period. Assumptions/Issues The principal issue in the completed analysis is the... Show more

Financial Analysis Using the tables (shown below and in Exhibit 1) to calculate cash flow before
financing and net proceeds from sale, a DCF method was used to arrive at a NPV of $216,789 and
IRR of 13.3% for a 5 year holding period at assumed vacancy of 5% (Exhibit 1). As mentioned
earlier, this IRR exceeds the 12.5% initially set out, and therefore seems like a feasible project.
Using a higher vacancy rate of 7%, however, lowers the IRR to a point that is no longer feasible.
If holding all else same, a vacancy of 7% on the building yields a NPV of $122,420 and an IRR
of 11.47% (please see table below and Exhibit 2). This IRR does not meet the minimum required
and therefore the assumption of vacancy rates staying at 5% is paramount to our analysis. This
aspect of the analysis is considerably risky as an assumed vacancy rate does not necessarily yield a
guaranteed rate. If vacancy happens to rise, then the valuation of the property is far different than
what was originally envisioned.

Persuasive Essay On Forest Fire
So, why is it good to utilize controlled forest fires? Well, for certain they help tremendously in
cleaning forest floors of brush, dead and infected plants, and provides a clean slate for new
plants to grow. A common argument to this would be, It will most and likely become
uncontrollable, and therefore should not be used with so many variable conditions available for
change. This rebuttal is not only irrational, but completely ignorant of the fact that this will
happen anyways whether its man made or natural. It continues the carbon cycle as the planet
itself needs to be able to continue to support life within it s atmosphere. To start with a certain
topic, breaking down the idea of cleaning the forest floor is the first topic. Fire, as many would
know, is one of the resources that will put carbon back into the ground or plants around a certain
area. None of this is relevant when you think with the closed mind of It will destroy the forest. It s
actually quite the opposite. Letting the fire burn out the floor of the forest will bring down some
trees yes, but it will also turn that back into a material that the earth itself can use to rejuvenate the
soil and the stock pile of nutrients within it. It then gives the chance for the next coming generation
of plants a more plentiful supply of the materials it needs to live. Not to mention, the plants that are
carrying bacteria and viruses that could do exponential damage to the surrounding plants and
animals are destroyed, and the ashes purified.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Cyber Criminals And The National Security
In these days, internet is more important than ever, and therefore, having security plans will, at
least, make things challengeable for hackers. Dinicu (2014) claims that cyber criminals threats to
the national security are the most dangerous and most recent ones. Also, she writes, hackers main

Therefore, it is crucial to learn about the methods that hackers use to steal information. By learning
about hacking, we can help ourselves and others to stay safe while using the internet. One of the
ways in which hackers steal information from people is physically. In physical hacking, hackers
are usually trusted by their victims or have some sort of relationship with them. One example is
getting papers that show PII (Personal Identifiable Information) from the garbage cans. According
to Arlistch and Edelman (2014), one of the easiest hacking methods is physical hacking. They
claim that physical hacking are usually more successful because they are quicker and hackers
sometimes find the information they want stored in thumb drives and old devices. The information
hackers find sometimes helps them to access victims accounts, and they get more information by
finding important data about their victims. In addition to papers, hackers are really interested in
thumb drives, old cell phones, and anything that can store information. We may think that we can
delete our files from a thumb drive and it is safe to let someone to barrow it or get it after clear the

Essay On How To Modify Parenting Time In Arizona
In most cases, a custody order is put in place by the court when parents of minor children are
seeking a legal separation or divorce. A modification to a custody order can be made when parents
ask the court to change a custody decision that made previously. When parents file for legal
separation or divorceand they cannot agree on child custody, it automatically falls to the court to
decide the arrangements. This type of custody decision is typically made in temporary orders
hearings and final trial when the parents are unable to reach an agreement on the issue. Once a
decree of legal separation or petition for dissolution of marriageis granted, the court still holds the
authority to make changes to custody orders they already put in place. This is referred to as a
modification of child custody or modification of parenting time.
How to Modify Parenting Time in Arizona:
When one or both of the parents decides they would like parenting time or custody to be modified,
it must be shown that the change is in the best interests of the child. Your Arizona family law

Court, but to file such a request, you must first consider some limitations. ... Show more content on

Figure 1.3. Comparison between traditional auction and reverse auction
E Reverse auction is the opposite of traditional auction. A traditional auction usually involves a
seller offering one or more items for sale in the marketplace, and there will be multiple potential
buyers compete for the purchase of the item(s) being offered (de Boer et al., 2001). The price is
driven up until a stage that no buyers are willing to offer a higher price (de Boer et al., 2001).
EBay and Amazon.com could be well known examples of traditional auction on the Internet. In
contrary, reverse auction is a process which there are multiple sellers are competing for the
business of one single buyer. At such, the price is driven down until there are no sellers willing to
bid any lower (Merson, 2000). According to

If it is already legal in one state it should be legal in all states, it is only fair. Marijuana is legal in

As an American citizen, I believe if it is right or legal in one state it should remain as it is on the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Bitcoin
Bitcoin is a platform which serves the role of intermediaries exactly as a traditional institution. It
helps in making it harder to cheat in transactions and reduction in the value of credibility lent
trusted intermediaries. A lack of trust becomes less of an impediment to trade opening up
financial market participants (Obstfeld and Rogoff. 334). It is able to save cost, speeds up the
clearing and settlement, as well as brings the reduction of the operational risks. It could also help
implement tailor made transactions protocol which means it would keep transaction detail
confidential and the supervisors are able to receive the records as the same time. It improves the
bargaining power of sellers and buyers when they deal with brokers which can be it s most
significant function (Dirk 1). Bitcoin like any other currency has some demerits associated with its
use. First, the value of bitcoin fluctuates periodically causing bitcoin accepting sites to continually
adjust their prices which bring confusion in a refund for a product made. Likewise, there is no
buyer protection where the seller cannot reverse the transactions. Bitcoin also causes deflation as
the total number of bitcoin maxes out. This leads to spending surges which cause the bitcoin
economy to be unstable which eventually causes unpredictability. Bitcoin also has no physical form
which makes it harder to be used in physical store. Bitcoin users are forced to convert the currency
to store it. In the article, there

Solving The Workplace After Conflict Management Training
Abstract
Conflict is an unavoidable part of life and health care is not excluded. The manner in which
conflict is resolved has a major impact in the workplace, be it favorable or unfavorable. Conflict
can arise at many professional levels in health care from the nursing staff to the physician. Conflict
also comes in many forms within the health care system. Stress, personal differences, scarce
resources and staffing, and also burnout can lead to conflict in health care (Pavlakis, Kaitelidou,
Theodorou, Galanis, Sourtzi Siskou, 2011). Managers must be properly trained to identify the
source of conflict at its origin and utilize proper problem solving techniques in order to obtain a
positive outcome that every person can benefit from. This literature review examines the abilities of
managers to resolve conflict in the workplace after conflict management training.
Introduction
There is conflict in every aspect of life, health care is not exempt. According to Durland s
Medical Dictionary, conflict is a struggle arising from the clash of incompatible or imposing
impulses, wishes, drives, or external demands (Saunders, 2007). Conflict can arise at many
professional levels and can also come in many forms within the health care system. Conflict is
often times seen as undesirable but the way in which conflict is handled can make it an
opportunity to learn and build from or it can make it harmful to a department or facility. On

Investigating Estrogen Effects On Myc And Pvt1 Expression
Investigating Estrogen Effects on MYC and PVT1 Expression in Breast Cancer Using Mouse
Models
Background
In the United States, breast cancer is currently the second most common cancer in women. The
National Institute of Health states that one in every eight women will develop breast cancer in her
lifetime (1). Furthermore, it is estimated by the American Cancer Institute that approximated 41,000
people died of breast cancer in the United States during 2015 (2). Since breast cancer is such a
prevalent concern in society today, current and future research will help direct the treatment and
detection of the disease.
Studies have shown that high estrogen levels correspond with an increased risk for breast cancer in
mammalian species (3). The hormone estrogen plays a key role in mammary gland development by
binding to the estrogen receptor, which has previously been identified as a transcription factor. In
normal cells, when estrogen binds to the receptor, a dimer forms and a conformational change
occurs. The estrogen receptor travels to the nucleus where its DNA binding domain interacts with a
DNA sequence found in the promoter of several genes. The estrogen receptor must form a complex
with various proteins prior to initiation of transcription. In cancerous cells, the estrogen receptor
becomes overly activated by estrogen and leads to tumor formation via multiple mechanisms (3).
Myelocytomatosis (Myc) and plasmacytoma variant transcription 1 (Pvt1) are two genes that were

Role Of Girish Karnad
The Man And The Writer Godugunuri Prasad
Girish Karnad is one of the foremost playwrights of the contemporary Indian stage. He has given
the Indian theatre a richness that could probably be equated only with his talents as an actor
director. His contribution goes beyond theatre: he has directed feature films, documentaries and
television serials in Kannada, Hindi, and English and has played leading roles as an actor in Hindi
and Kannada art films, commercial movies and television serials. He has represented Indian in
foreign lands as an emissary of art and culture.

articles, the most significant being In search of a New Theatre in Contemporary Indian Tradition,
ed. Carla Borden (Washington; Smithsonian Press, 1988) and Theatre in India, in Daedalus,
Vo1.118, No.4, pp.331 52.(7) While as Karnad is a multi faceted personality, it is essentially as a
playwright that he is at his best. He confesses, I have been fairly lucky in having a multi pronged
career. You know, I have been an actor, a publisher, and a film maker. But in none of these fields
have I felt quite as much at home as in playwriting. In India, unfortunately, the writers cannot live
on their writing alone; it does not yield enough royalties for sustenance. Karnad says, One can t
earn a comfortable living even from a successful play. Take Tughlaq,. As we know, it s been
enormously successful В¬critically as well as in performance. Playwrights in the west have been
able to retire on such successes or at least, to devote themselves to that activity entirely. I can t.
Today Girish Karnad considered one of the most significant Indian dramatists. He has enriched the
Indian literary scene by his contribution to art, culture, theatre and drama. It is most befitting that
Karnad has been conferred by the President of India, the prestigious awards, Padmasri in 1974
and Padmabhushan in 1992. Also, he received the Gubbi Veeranna Award from the Government
of Karnataka in 1997. Karnad is based in Bangalore and lives with his wife, a medico and his two

The Drug Heroin
Heroin and commonly known by its street names of H, smack, horse, brown, black, tar, and others,
is an opioid analgesic originally synthesized by C.R. Alder Wright in 1874 by adding two acetyl
groups to the molecule morphine, which is found naturally in the opium poppy. It is the 3,6
diacetyl ester of morphine. Heroinitself is an inactive drug, but when inserted into the body, it
converts into morphine.
Illicit heroin is sometimes available in freebase form, dulling the sheen and consistency to a matte
white powder. Because of its lower boiling point, the freebase form of heroin is also smokable. It
is prevalent in heroin coming from Afghanistan, which as of 2004 produced roughly 87% of the
world supply in illicit raw opium.
As with other opioids, diacetylmorphine is used as both an analgesic and a recreational drug.
Frequent and regular administration is associated with tolerance and physical dependence.
Internationally, diacetylmorphine is controlled under Schedules I and IV of the Single Convention
on Narcotic Drugs. It is illegal to manufacture, possess, or sell diacetylmorphine without a license in
almost every country, except the UK and Switzerland.
It is also available for prescription to long term users as a form of opioid replacement therapy in the
United Kingdom, Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, and Denmark, alongside psycho social care
in the same manner that methadone or buprenorphine are used in the United States and Canada and
a similar programme is being

The Development Of New Zealand
New Zealand is a country which for the most part is made up of hills and mountains area. These
hilly and mountainous natures cover about 18 million hectares in land. This means that about
69% of the country land has slopes greater than 12В°, and got the country to be nicknamed the
hill country . This 69% hilly land is further divided into two based on the sloppiness of the land.
The land with slope between 12 28В° is called hill land ; thus, the land whose slope exceeds 28В°
is themed steepland (DSIR 1980). The diversity in New Zealands hill country physical regimes
creates ranges of slope and altitude, coupled with a extensive latitudinal range, a mid oceanic
setting surrounding the subtropical with cooling moderate climates, and complex geologic and
tectonic regimes. As a consequence of this diversity, the productive potential of New Zealand s hill
country, and its response to climatic events, created the use of sustainable land us act to be used
across the country.
Out of these 18 million hectares, 6.3 million hectares in the North Island comprises of majorly
soft rock and crushed soft rock terrain (Mclvor, Douglas, Dymond, Eyles and Marden. 2011).
About 23% of the 18 million is made up of volcanic ash and loess mantled terrain comprises
largely on the periphery of the Central Volcanic Zone. Also, 14.5% of the available land is Hard
rock hill country, which is exclusive of the igneous hard rock is largely strenuous on the margins of

Pitching In Professional Sports
Pitching in
All right, who is excited for the MLB All Star game? No, I mean the actual game, not the build up
to it.
::Crickets::
Yeah, that s what I thought.
We re just going to talk about it on Twitter till July 12th and then not watch it like we have done
every other year. Right?
While there is no shame in that game, I think there are a few interesting tidbits of information
concerning pitchers and their participation in the All Star festivities.
AL Starting Pitchers Is Lacking Strength
Pitching may cause a few problems at this year s All Star game. Kansas City Royals manager
and this year s American League coach, Ned Yost has a tough road ahead of him. There are few
starting pitchers on the American League side that stand out enough to warrant a few innings on
July 12. The Red Sox Steven Wright, Danny Salazar, and the White Sox Jose Quintana top the
list with the lowest ERA in the American League. Trouble is numbers do not tell their whole
story making them questionable candidates. Wright is a terrific knuckleballer, and Quintana has
lost 5 of his last 6 starts, a streak that ended against my beloved Red Sox. Both may get pretty
beat up. Salazar is hanging in there with a 3.16 ERA with 8 wins. He may be the best of what
there is to offer. There are others, and hopefully they will emerge to lead the... Show more content

Everywhere you look their pitching supremacy is evident. There will be no problem staffing the
mound over nine innings. The biggest question for pitchers like Madison Bumgarner, Noah
Syndergaard, and Adam Wainwright is not about throwing the ball, but hitting it. These guys want
to slug it out in the Home Run Derby. Of the two All Star televised events, the home run derby is
probably watched by more people than the All Star game. So let s spice things up. Let them play!
The league must make the decision for the inclusion of these pitchers, and

Pet Shop Boys and Beauty Essay
Success amp; Jealousy in Beauty Beauty, written by Jane Martin in the mid nineteen hundreds, is
an ironic play about two successful women, Bethany and Carla. Both women were the same age yet
complete opposites. They also had completely different personalities and were unhappy with their
lives. Martin casted and characterized them this way to illustrate a few themes. The drama was
mainly centered on the theme that no one is ever happy unless they get their wishes granted.
However, in these two women s cases, getting what they wanted caused them to realize there is
nothing wrong with being different. These two themes can be seen through the two character s
success, jealousy, and a genie. Bethany and Carla experienced success in... Show more content on

Bethany just considered a self a disgrace and a piece of trash. Carla explained, Bethany is
beautiful and she has the charm, personality, and is perfectly pretty (736). Of course, Bethany
places a stereotype on beautiful by saying, it is the real deal. Carla gets discounts on makeup for
no reason. Parents treat beautiful children better and they even statistically get paid more.
Beautiful people can have sex any time, any place (736). Carla, confused, did not understand
why Bethany wanted to be just like her. Bethany hated Carla most of the time because of her
beauty. This leads Carla to go on a rant about beauty and why it is so difficult to live and be
beautiful simultaneously. Carla tells Bethany to be herself and she will have an amazing life.
Bethany begs to differ and says, it is what everyone wants to be. Money can only make you buy
things. Beauty makes you the center of the entire universe. All eyes are always on those
individuals that are beautiful (736). Carla says, Bethany will hate her life is she was beautiful.
She would be miserable and unhappy (736). Bethany then pulls out a genie in a bottle. Bethany,
determined, reiterates, Carla s thoughts do not matter. Carla was just lying about everything,
which explains why she had no friends or a long relationship. Bethany wanted to be just like
Carla, and she had a god dam genie and only one wish to make (736). Bethany indeed used her

Analysing the Generation Effect Essay
Noteworthy findings indicated that the participants recognized more items from the generate
condition than read condition. A notable large effect between the two conditions was detected as
well. Slamecka and Graf (1978) strongly suggested that generation effect existed, despite of other
argumentative claims. Under the same category, items involve providing a stimulus and response in
the generate condition confirms improve memory in the later recognition test versus items in the
read condition. Perhaps how the items encode and retrieve from the memory can be interpreted as
well. An alternative explanation argued that levels of processing took place during the generate

Moreover, the generation effect serves the similar purpose as testing effect in educational settings.
Roediger and Karpicke (2006) claimed that the testing is a beneficial method in long term retention
of the materials, comparing to no testing at all. Likewise, the generate condition in this experiment
works an equivalent pattern as a multiple choice tests where some kind of recognition takes place in
learning and memory (Roediger Karpicke, 2006). Briefly, the generation effect assists people to
retain better memory and thus improve learning across different circumstances. More importantly,
the testing phenomenon serves an educational purpose for students at school, regardless of short
answer questions, multiple choice questions, or essay questions where no feedback is necessary
(Roediger Karpicke, 2006). However, repetitive studying will not guarantee better retention rate in
terms of delay testing, and retesting will have a greater impact (Roediger Karpicke, 2006). In
practical applications, using flashcards with only key words written and creating tests without
multiple choice questions are some of the examples of putting generation effect in use. Based on
current researches, repetitive testing produces a powerful effect especially in delayed tests. Yet, the
research on the boundary of how long the delay of the tests require before the materials diminish
are still unknown. This way, teachers and

Jane Fonda Workouts And The Richard Simmons Dvds
Forget the Jane Fonda workouts and the Richard Simmons DVDs if you want to get in shape
just turn on the Barry White and do what comes naturally. It turns out that healthy sex has
benefits that go well beyond simply burning calories, and can improve your physical, mental,
and emotional well being. Although many of these benefits are seemingly obvious, few people
have taken the time to think about them. As Joy Davidson, PhD, a New York psychologist and
sex therapist, said in an interview with WebMD Of course, sex is everywhere in the media. But
the idea that we are vital, sexual creatures is still looked at in some cases with disgust or in other
cases a bit of embarrassment. So to really take a look at how our sexuality adds to our life and
enhances our life and our health, both physical and psychological, is eye opening for many people.
Scientists have been studying the physiological effects of sex presumably one can only study the
feeding habits of fruit flies for so long and their studies have shown a wide range of benefits both
obvious and surprising. Of course these studies all looked at safer sex within committed
relationships, thus avoiding the many health risks associated with more casual encounters. Among
the many benefits: 1. That Healthy, Happy Glow: Researchers at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital
wanted to test the theory that regular sexual activity creates a noticeable improvement in one s
appearance. A group of volunteers were asked to guess the ages

Rebel Without A Cause Pop Culture
Midterm paper: Pop Culture: Sex, Drugs, Rock Roll. Rebel Without a Cause led way to the first
on screen teenage bad boy. James Dean plays a disgruntled teenager (Jim) is unsatisfied with life
and the patriarchy of following the rules. He hates that his dad lets his mom run the household
and caters to her versus the traditional father makes all the rules stance. Rebel Without a Cause
allows for a deep consideration of what the stereotypical 1950s teenager felt. The movie looks at
teenage relationships with the older generation and exclaims the disdain both parties share for
one another during the tremulous coming of age time. Jim s parents are not sure how to raise
him the best way, and he loses respect for them judging on how they interact with him and each
other. The other main teenage characters within the film are Judy portrayed by Natalie Wood,
and John Plato Crawford portrayed by Sal Mineo. Natalie Wood s character is probably
reminiscent of what many young female teenagers went through at the time. She deals with
gender issues and must find her way as a developing young woman when her parents seem
clueless to her concerns and struggles. Her father does not know how to guide her through this
next stage of life and instead turns her away which causes her to feel bad about herself. Her
Mother has no real clue on how to help either of them as well. Plato is also a striking character
within the story that is utterly confused and has no real guidance in life. All three

2004 Boxing Day Tsunami
Good morning/Afternoon, Today I will be discussing the reasoning for why people live in disaster
prone areas and the detrimental effects it has on society. I will be mainly focussing on Tsunamis
and the effects it can cause when in action. The case study I have chosen to assist this task is the,
2004 Boxing Day Tsunamievent. Tsunamis can be shown as powerful waves that can rip through
anything taking anything down in its path. A tsunami cannot be prevented; however the impact of a
tsunami can be mitigated through community preparedness, timely warnings, and effective
responses.
A tsunami is a series of ocean waves that consist of very long wavelengths, they are caused by large
scale disturbances of the ocean, some including; earthquakes,

Ignorance In The Matrix
A fish does not know it lives life in water. To a fish, it swimming around is equivalent to a human
walking on the street. One becomes accustomed to it s environment and do not notice the
surroundings which may in turn be strange to others. Until one is shown a different environment
outside of the considered norm, one is just like that fish oblivious to it s environment. Ignorance
is bliss. This is the case for Neo if he chooses the blue pill instead of the red, Truman not
searching for his true love Lauren and for the prisoner in Plato s cave, never finding the light that
is the exit to the cave. One s knowledgeis confined to the box in which one lives. In the movie The
Matrix, directed by Lana and Lilly Wachowski, the character Neo is given a choice to either learn
the truth or choose to live his life like he was, unknowing of what lies behind the curtain. This
would ve been beneficial to Neo because of the fact that he would not have been put in harm s
way nor had the pressure of having to save his crew from the tightening grip of the sentinels.
During the film Neo has a hard time equating the magnitude of his situation, he does not believe in
himself. Neo felt comfortable in his state before he was unplugged,... Show more content on

Contrary, ignorance must be a part of society in order for it to keep moving forward. If the
human race were to be full of all knowing individuals then work as a society would come to a
stand still. Ignorance is mandatory for cultural sanity, sometimes it is better not to know than to
worry over the truth. If a loved one has terminal cancer, the family can decide whether or not to
tell the individual or to keep it from them to better their remaining time as a living person. This is
to justify the fact that ignorance is beneficial in some circumstances as opposed to

The Music Of Jazz Music Essay
Ever since Jelly Roll Morton revolutionised jazz music in the early 1920 s, Piano has played a
vital role in the development of Jazz music with greats such as Duke Ellington influencing jazz
from the start of the swing era (Gioia, 2011). Jazz Pianists were often on the forefront of the
ongoing development of jazzmusic. However, when the bebop era dawned, piano seemed to move
into the background, with people like John Coltrane and Miles Davisleading the charge. However,
this did not mean the piano disappeared, far from it; Jazz music is a genre that is in constant flux,
driven by the players in the music. Often, the most famous jazz musicians were the most
innovative and forward thinking players of their respective eras. Musicians hold jazz pedigree and
genealogy in high regard, where playing with and learning from the masters that came before was
almost a necessity. Some musicians learn from meticulously studying and transcribing solos and
compositions performed by previous masters. Pianos ability to play melody and harmony together
made it one of the most complex and diverse instruments in the world, especially in jazz music,
being able to perform solo with rich musical timbres and complexity. Players such as Bill Evans
and Thelonious Monk, whom are discussed in this paper, helped revolutionise jazz and bebop music
in their own way, and are some of the best jazz pianists of all time, driving the genre of jazz forever
forward (Solomon, 2013).
Thelonious Monk was known to

The Importance Of Happiness And Happiness
Have you ever truly sat and considered what makes you truly happy? Often times, people answer
directly with the response of money. We say this without deeply considering all that we have to be
grateful for. Happiness is not achieved through wealth instead through experiences, the family we
love, and the nature that surrounds us, literature has created a great impact upon the ideals we
consider to create our happiness. The texts, High incomes don t bring you Happiness and You can
buy Happiness, if it s an Experience , completes the idea that monetary value does not bring true
joy. In the passage, High incomes don t bring you Happiness , the author states that bringing in
an over excessive amount of money will not make one happy. The author said that an overall
income of around $75,000 will complete one s emotional well being, while anything over that
will complete a life evaluation. Life evaluation is the idea that if one was to look at themselves
while they re in their deathbed, how would they rate their lifestyle. This is also supported through
different statements within the passage, You can buy Happiness, if it s an Experience . Within this
study, it was proven that people enjoyed money, but often spent it on materialistic items which
leaves them with a temporary feeling of satisfaction, while when they are given a fully paid trip to
the Bahamas, the feeling of peace and joy lasts far longer than when they were to purchase an item
of materialistic value. This

Biography of Mark Spitz
From daily swims in the ocean as a child, to going professional at the age of 14, Mark Spitz had
something to prove. He had an ambition to become something great and never gave up along the
way. From the gold medals to the iconic mustache, Mark Spitz is the most amazing swimmer of all
time.
After his birth in 1950, Mark Spitz grew up on the beaches of California and Hawaii. You should
have seen that little boy dash into the ocean. He d run like he was trying to commit suicide.
Mark s mother, Lenore Spitz, once said about his early disposition to water. As soon as he was
able to walk, his parents introduced him to the pool. The rest is history. At the age of 15, Spitz
won four gold medals at the Maccabiah Games in Tel Aviv. At 18, he won two gold medals, one
silver, and one bronze in the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City. By then, his fame was
already on the rise, but what happened in the 1972 Olympics is what he will be remembered for.
After being disappointed in himself for not doing as well as he hoped in Mexico City, he vowed
to go to the next Olympics and come home with seven golds. True to his word, in the 1972
Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany, Mark Spitz became the first person to win seven gold
medals in a single Olympic Games. He swept the competition and attained his spot in the hall of
champions. By the end of his career, he had broken 35 U.S. records and 23 world records.
In an era when other swimmers were shaving body hair, Spitz rebelliously swam with a

  • 2. Gender And Openness At Experience Gender and Openness to Experience Sydney Holst Arizona State University: PSY 290 Abstract The relationship between gender and openness to experience was examined. Arizona State University undergraduate students participated in taking a Goldberg based Big Five survey to measure their openness to experience. Women had higher levels of openness to experience compared to men. These findings suggest that there is a relationship between gender and the personality trait of openness to experience. Gender and Openness to Experience From the beginning of one s life, people interact with one another, immediately creating new relationships. The type of relationships humans develop is determined by an individual s personality. Based upon the Big Five Factor Model, there are five broad personality traits to describe humans (Costa, 1992). The Big Five traits are openness to experience, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism (Matthews, Deary, Whiteman, 2003). This five factor model has been the basis of many studies within the field of psychology. Previous research has examined gender differences in the Big Five personality traits in fifty five nations (Schmidt, Realo, Voracek, Allik, 2008). Schmidt, Realo, Voracek, and Allik (2008) found that across the fifty five nations there was no significance in average. They found that women reported higher in average conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Hillary Clinton Women s Rights Are Human Rights Speech... In the past, women didn t have as many rights as men. They were seen as men s possessions who were only allowed to cook, clean, and make babies. Women weren t allowed as many privileges as men such as voting. But as the years went by, changes were made. Women were granted many of the same privileges as men, but they were still being mistreated in some perspectives. On September 5, 1995 in Beijing, China, Hillary Clinton delivered a speech about this issue at the United NationsFourth World Conference for Women in front of 180 countries. Her speech was called Women s Rights are Human Rights. She gave this speech to express her concern over the mistreatment women have been facing. Clinton directed her speech to governments and other organizations to argue why they need to help improve women s rights. Clinton uses ethos, pathos, and logos to persuade her audience that women should be treated equally. Clinton uses ethos in her speech to persuade her audience by showing them your credibility. Ethos is an effective way to persuade an audience. This helps to show the audience that the speaker knows what they re talking about. As First Lady and Senator, Clinton shows she has credibility on the topic by saying Over the past 25 years, I have worked persistently on issues relating to women, children, and families. Over the past two and a half years. I ve has the opportunity to learn more about the challenges facing women in my own country and around the world (Clinton 2). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Sentinal Fire Protection Ltd ( Sfp ) TITLE BLANK Summary Sentinal Fire Protection Ltd (SFP) is a company that design and specialises in the design and manufacture of fire detection and extinguishing systems for aircrafts. SFP have been tasked with carrying out tests on a new fire extinguishant named Agent H3. Due to the findings conducted in 1994 as per the Montreal Protocol (a protocol to the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer), the commonly used fire extinguishing agent Halon 1301 ceased production. Halon 1301 is a CFC (chlorofluorocarbon) gas, which the Montreal Protocol concluded, had a tendency to significantly breakdown the earths ozone layer. The termination of Halon 1301 prompted the need for a CFC free replacement fire extinguishing agent. The replacement extinguishant, Agent H3 was tested by SFP under controlled conditions which simulated a bulk load cargo fire inside a compartment with a volume of 58m3. The effectiveness of Agent H3 was constantly monitored through thermocouples and data loggers. It s efficiency as a fire suppressant was based on two criterion set by the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration), the temperature acceptance criterion and the maximum time/temp criterion, with the outcome of a lower result being more effective. These results would then be compared with the known results of Halon 1301 being subjected to the same tests. The results concluded that Agent H3 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay on Arthur Mervyn Charles Brockden Brown s novel, Arthur Mervyn, has been read by people across America from the late eighteenth century up until today. Brown targeted many audiences in this novel but there is one in particular that not only had an impact on people then, but can still captivate many in today s society. That specific group involves people who are fighting an incurable illness, such as the Yellow Fever, as described in the book. Although it was written in the late 1700 s, people in the twenty first century can still relate to the characters in the book, and understand what they were feeling at that time. The goal of this paper is to show that Brown s main intended audience was towards the incurably sick and that even over two hundred... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I felt as if I inhaled a poisonous and subtle fluid...some fatal influence seemed to seize upon my vitals; and the work of corrosion and decomposition to be busily begun (144). People often times make assumptions about things when they don t really know what is going on. This is still the case in today s time, when people assume the cause is one thing when it could be something completely different. Mervyn seemed to know at this point that he was destined to die. Most of the fever victims had no hopes of living once they contracted the illness. He later found sanctuary in the home of Welbeck, in hopes of breathing his last there, stating, All I sought was the privilege of dying alone (182). The Yellow Fever is no different than many incurable diseases that we are fighting in today s society, such as AIDS, Hepatitis A B, Herpes, certain Cancers, Ebola and the Killer Flu. When a person contacts some incurable disease, they must learn to live the rest of their lives with it, no matter how long that may be. Victims of these diseases can read Arthur Mervynand relate to the way that the victims of the Yellow Fever felt; the only thing left to look forward to in life is death. • 7. The Presence Of Rat Model Of Parkinson s Disease Induced... The present study was established to show revealed the presence of neurochemical and histopathological changes in the cerebellum of rat model of Parkinson s disease induced by the intrastriatal injection of rotenone. This may change the strategy of the disease treatment that depends mainly on the restoration of dopaminelevels in the basal ganglia. The present findings showed the development of hyperexcitability in the cerebellum of rat model of PD induced by intrastriatal injection of rotenone. This was indicated from the significant increase in the excitatory amino acid neurotransmitters; glutamate and aspartate and the significant decrease in the inhibitory amino acids; GABA, glycine and taurine. These neurotransmitters are involved in many functions such as motor behavior, cognition, and emotion (Ottersen and Storm Mathisen, 1986, Schmidt et al., 1992)1,2. The balance between excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmission is important for brain to sustain proper neuronal function (Mel et al., 2004)[1]. Perturbation in glutamatergic and GABAergic neurotransmission is associated with several neurological and psychiatric disorders (Sanacora et al., 2004) (3) [glutamate gaba balance 1]. Functional neuroimaging study using PET or blood oxygen level dependent functional MRI frequently demonstrated increased activation in the cerebellum in patients with PD during performance of various upper limb movements (Rascol et al., 1997; Catalan et al., 1999; Wu and Hallett, 2005; Yu et ... Marcus is dead, reflecting on the critical events of his life leading up to his downfall. He believes these events were causally related; if one event in his life ended differently, his death could have been avoided. Marcus laments his misfortune as an unlucky soul. His mother calls him defiant, as if it is a natural characteristic that all Messners, and followers of Bertrand Russell inherently possess. Sonny Cottler is the president of the Jewish fraternity and is well known on campus (44 45). Instead of accepting his father s help in making friends and getting settled in a foreign environment, he asks his father to stop sending visitors. Formally, the Managing Director and Operations Manager sit on a day to day basis and look at workflow, geographical location of employees, and most importantly client suitability. If a client has requested a particular employee due to past experiences, the organisation tries its best to accommodate. The Human Resource Manager also gives input on how to make teams more productive. She sits with the various teams and ensure that they know what goals they are working towards (the organisational goals and missions), and updating them on their competitors. • 17. John Bowlby And Mary Ainsworth s Attachment Theories John Bowlby and Mary Ainsworth s attachment theories derive from the idea that in early development infants develop different attachment behaviors in relation to their caregivers. This emotional bond between an infant and their parents can have an enduring impact on future relationships throughout an individual s life. Research has shown that there does not have to be a biological component for an infant to bond with a parent. Instead the bond or attachment is related to quality and quantity of interaction between parent and child. (Boyd, Bee, p. 130) There are four main attachment styles; secure attachment, insecure/avoidant attachment, insecure/ambivalent attachment, and insecure/disorganized attachment. (Boyd, Bee, p. 133) Each of the four attachment styles come with a variety of associated characteristics and behaviors. For example: a child who develops a secure attachment will be an active explorer, easily soothed, and prefers their mother over a stranger. In comparison an infant who develops an insecure/avoidant attachment avoid contact with their mother and has no preference in interaction with their mother over a stranger. Insecure children will not resist interaction from their mother, but they do not seek. Infants who have secure attachment will often seek contact and interaction with their mother. • 18. Comparing Plato s The Republic What mix of traits creates the perfect ruler? Some may say charisma, personability, or even good looks. Throughout history, a plethora of leaders with different views have been successful for many different kinds of societies. Depending on what the society needs, rulers change their ways as well as do what they can for the good of their people. In Platos The Republic, the character Socrates argues with his peers about what makes the perfect society, as well as the perfect leader. According to Plato, the wisest choice for a ruler in a near perfect society is a philosopher, containing multiple important attributes. A wide variety of characteristics are covered, yet Plato seems to focus in on several key foundations. Plato s views on essential traits of a philosopher focus on the necessity of truthand thirst for knowledge. Perhaps the most important trait of a philosopher is the ability to learn. This trait is important because if it pains a philosopher to learn, they can t be expected to enjoy it or have much success (486 c). The idea of constantly wanting more knowledge is abundant. Plato often states that a yearning for knowledge will come at a young age, and that it won t be easy (485 d). Searching for knowledge is a lifelong commitment that takes dedication and persistence. He also gives a counter example while talking about the timarchic character as well as the oligarchic society. Due to an imperfect education, the timarchic leader will have inner conflict when it ... The Importance Of Firearms In Schools Recent polls conducted across the United States surveying students about concealed weapon carry laws show that almost eighty percent of students oppose the concealed carrying of firearms on school campuses. Only five percent of students said they believe that carrying firearms on campus would prevent school shootings or other violent acts relating to carrying guns on campus (Book 22). Overall, the majority of American students oppose concealed carry laws and are concerned about the safety of themselves and or others if they attend a school that allows concealed carrying. Lately, the debate over whether or not concealed carry laws should be allowed or not on school campuses has slowly been disappearing. If so many students across the United States are concerned about firearms on their own school campus then, therefore, the rest of the U.S. should be too. Currently, many states allow each school to choose if firearms should be allowed on their campuses, however, firearms should not be allowed at all in schools across the United States. There are more possibilities for firearms to have a bad impact rather than a good impact on campuses including increases in crime and theft, concerns of safety, and the possibility of firearms being stolen and used. The most important concern about allowing guns to be carried on campuses is, of course, the safety of the students, teachers, administrators, and visitors. Essay on Shady Trail Case Study Executive Summary After analyzing the numbers and the market and property factors involved with Shady Trail, it is my opinion that this property is a reasonable one to invest in. It meets the criteria we had previously set forth in choosing an investment property as both the IRR and the current cash flows are in excess of the minimum we mandated. These numbers require that the assumptions we use in market rent, cap rate in 2003, vacancy rate, and our plans to sell the investment after 5 years all hold. If one of these assumptions doesn t hold and the 5 year projection is below expectations, it can still be remedied by holding the asset for a longer time period. Financial Analysis Using the tables (shown below and in Exhibit 1) to calculate cash flow before financing and net proceeds from sale, a DCF method was used to arrive at a NPV of $216,789 and IRR of 13.3% for a 5 year holding period at assumed vacancy of 5% (Exhibit 1). As mentioned earlier, this IRR exceeds the 12.5% initially set out, and therefore seems like a feasible project. Using a higher vacancy rate of 7%, however, lowers the IRR to a point that is no longer feasible. If holding all else same, a vacancy of 7% on the building yields a NPV of $122,420 and an IRR of 11.47% (please see table below and Exhibit 2). This IRR does not meet the minimum required and therefore the assumption of vacancy rates staying at 5% is paramount to our analysis. This aspect of the analysis is considerably risky as an assumed vacancy rate does not necessarily yield a guaranteed rate. If vacancy happens to rise, then the valuation of the property is far different than what was originally envisioned. • 27. Persuasive Essay On Forest Fire So, why is it good to utilize controlled forest fires? Well, for certain they help tremendously in cleaning forest floors of brush, dead and infected plants, and provides a clean slate for new plants to grow. A common argument to this would be, It will most and likely become uncontrollable, and therefore should not be used with so many variable conditions available for change. This rebuttal is not only irrational, but completely ignorant of the fact that this will happen anyways whether its man made or natural. It continues the carbon cycle as the planet itself needs to be able to continue to support life within it s atmosphere. To start with a certain topic, breaking down the idea of cleaning the forest floor is the first topic. Fire, as many would know, is one of the resources that will put carbon back into the ground or plants around a certain area. None of this is relevant when you think with the closed mind of It will destroy the forest. It s actually quite the opposite. Letting the fire burn out the floor of the forest will bring down some trees yes, but it will also turn that back into a material that the earth itself can use to rejuvenate the soil and the stock pile of nutrients within it. First, the value of bitcoin fluctuates periodically causing bitcoin accepting sites to continually adjust their prices which bring confusion in a refund for a product made. Likewise, there is no buyer protection where the seller cannot reverse the transactions. Bitcoin also causes deflation as the total number of bitcoin maxes out. This leads to spending surges which cause the bitcoin economy to be unstable which eventually causes unpredictability. Investigating Estrogen Effects On Myc And Pvt1 Expression Investigating Estrogen Effects on MYC and PVT1 Expression in Breast Cancer Using Mouse Models Background In the United States, breast cancer is currently the second most common cancer in women. The National Institute of Health states that one in every eight women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime (1). Furthermore, it is estimated by the American Cancer Institute that approximated 41,000 people died of breast cancer in the United States during 2015 (2). Since breast cancer is such a prevalent concern in society today, current and future research will help direct the treatment and detection of the disease. Studies have shown that high estrogen levels correspond with an increased risk for breast cancer in mammalian species (3). The hormone estrogen plays a key role in mammary gland development by binding to the estrogen receptor, which has previously been identified as a transcription factor. In normal cells, when estrogen binds to the receptor, a dimer forms and a conformational change occurs. The estrogen receptor travels to the nucleus where its DNA binding domain interacts with a DNA sequence found in the promoter of several genes. The estrogen receptor must form a complex with various proteins prior to initiation of transcription. In cancerous cells, the estrogen receptor becomes overly activated by estrogen and leads to tumor formation via multiple mechanisms (3). Alder Wright in 1874 by adding two acetyl groups to the molecule morphine, which is found naturally in the opium poppy. It is the 3,6 diacetyl ester of morphine. Heroinitself is an inactive drug, but when inserted into the body, it converts into morphine. Illicit heroin is sometimes available in freebase form, dulling the sheen and consistency to a matte white powder. Because of its lower boiling point, the freebase form of heroin is also smokable. It is prevalent in heroin coming from Afghanistan, which as of 2004 produced roughly 87% of the world supply in illicit raw opium. As with other opioids, diacetylmorphine is used as both an analgesic and a recreational drug. Frequent and regular administration is associated with tolerance and physical dependence. Internationally, diacetylmorphine is controlled under Schedules I and IV of the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs. It is illegal to manufacture, possess, or sell diacetylmorphine without a license in almost every country, except the UK and Switzerland.
