Emile Durkheim s Influence On Society
Émile Durkheim was born in France in 1858 to a Jewish family and started attending a rabbinical
school at a young age but eventually decided not to continue on that path and instead became an
agnostic. He eventually went on to become a philosophy teacher and is considered to have played a
pivotal roll in the rise of sociology. Durkheim believed that society shaped every aspect of human
thought and behavior. He promoted the importance of society and suggests that without it things like
art, family, laws and morality could not exist. He insists that although we are all individual beings
with the capability of making our own decisions, all of our life choices are made within a sociological
structure provide to us from the day were are born. He believed these social ties were so important that
we needed an entire discipline scientifically committed to understanding it. He wanted data to be
collected, studied and compared. Thus the field of Sociology was born, and Durkheim considered the
father of it. While attempting to understand the social Durkheim was continuously led back to the
religious. Durkheim found that religion and society were absolutely synonymous and that one could
not survive without the other stating, If religion has given birth to all that is essential in society, it is
because the idea of society is the soul of religion. (191) Durkheim was intent on identifying certain
elements of religious beliefs that are common across different cultures. For Durkheim,

Let s Put Pornography Back In The Closet Analysis
In the article Let s Put Pornography Back in the Closet, the writer tries to identify and define what
pornography and obscenity is. According to the text, feminists believe that pornography is anything
that aims to cause harm to the image of what it means to be a woman. It also includes any source that
depicts the female body being harmed in any way to please the viewer s sexual fantasies. Brownmiller
adds to the feminist definition by stating that when any person is being degraded or humiliated for the
purpose of fulfilling sexual needs it should also be classified as pornography and obscenity. Along
with her definitions for pornography and obscenity, the writer also identifies the First Amendment and
how it relates to her topic. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In today s society things that may be considered obscene and pornographic are much more easily
attained by the average person. She believes that one of the reasons porn is so easily accessible to the
public is because many people cannot differentiate between pornography, obscenity and modern art or
literature; what is considered vulgar and distasteful by some, can also be thought of as beautiful and
classy by others. Brownmiller explains that the women portrayed in magazines today are
photoshopped to represent what a desirable woman is supposed to look like; this has led many women,
including the writer, to feel ashamed and uncomfortable with their bodies. It is because of these
reasons that the writer feels that there should be restrictions on what is allowed to be provided and
distributed to the public. She also believes that the government needs to use today s societal norms,
which apply to the everyday average person to figure out what should be allowed to be released to the
public. The writer states at the end of her article that she doesn t believe the government should
prohibit what she defines as vulgar and distasteful pornography and obscenity, but requests that it
should be removed from every day public

The Los Angeles County Federation Of Labor Essay
The start of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor Student s Name Institutional Affiliation
Abstract The Los Angeles County Federation of Labor is a regional labor organization in the state of
Los Angeles that has evolved representation of the interests of workers to include political
involvement. Its formation was a function of political influence in labor and the relevance of merging
labor movements to have better representations and high compulsion among leaders (Dean et al.,
2009). The Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, as the name suggests, is a composite labor body
formed after the merging of all labor bodies in Los Angeles. The start of the Los Angeles County
Federation of Labor Los Angeles County Federation of Labor is a federation of Los Angeles labor
organization in 1957(Dean et al., 2009). Its formation was a direct response to trends in merging of
organizations representing the interests of workers all over the US. The Los Angeles County
Federation of Labor was an improvement of the earlier Los Angeles Council of Labor and the
formation enabled involvement in regional and national politics after the emergence of politics as an
important influence of labor movements(Dean et al., 2009). Initially, in the late 19th century, labor
organizations were not as organized as they are today. In Los Angeles, there was a federation of labor
parties that was officially organized by five different unions. The different unions

Disadvantages Of Tapons
1. Issue description:
Hint: Be specific in your description, of what your activity is specifically, what is its frequency, etc.
and why it is not sustainable.
My Sustainability Assessment will address the unsustainable effects of Tampons ecologically and
socially. Tampons are greatly used among women, as they approximately use 9,300 tampons in their
lifetime. It is also very convenient and compact as it can be seen on every store shelf. However, there
are many disadvantages in its use.
Every woman has their period every month. Hence, the tampons are greatly needed. With this need is
a health risk that can affect women in the future, such as dioxin residue, and chemicals in fragrances
that are found within the tampon itself. In these chemicals lies a more dangerous risk, which is Toxic
Shock Syndrome, pelvic inflammation to name a few. Thus, a woman s need can also be the one that
can put her in danger. Tampons, as small as it can seem, can also harm the environment. The
production of cotton uses pesticides that can be carcinogenic and can leave traces in tampons. The
plastic applicator found in tampons can harm marine ecosystem and can take years to degrade. The
tampon, itself, that are found in landfills can t also degrade and can cause carbon emissions.
On the other hand, Tampons are controlled and manufactured by well known companies such as
Procter Gamble, and Johnson Johnson, which makes it economically stable. Feminine products, such
as tampons, can increase up to the US $35.4 Billion in global sales. With this power, they can deceive
the customers into thinking that their product is safe when it is not.
2. Desired outcomes: Briefly explain each of the following outcomes:
(a) My issue is/is not ecologically sound because...
Tampons have always been in the garbage every month, as every woman uses it. Its waste can amount
to 62, 415lbs. This garbage, without proper disposal, can end in landfills, which can take up more than
a year to degrade. A tampon has super absorbent, dense fibers that are petroleum based, which takes
up a slower process to degrade in areas that are at a colder temperature. Moreover, its plastic
applicators can also be a cause in harming the marine ecosystem. Some of the

Emotional Intelligence and Athletic Performance
According to Salovey and Mayer (1990), understanding emotions involves comprehension of how
basic emotions are blended to form complex emotions, how emotions are affected by events
surrounding experiences, and whether various emotional reactions are likely in given social settings.
Regulating emotions encompasses the control of emotions in oneself and in others. An individual s
emotional intelligence is an indication of how he or she perceives, understands, and regulates
emotions. In sum, emotional intelligence is a form of intelligence that involves the ability to monitor
one s own and others feelings and emotions, to discriminate among them and to use this information
to guide one s thinking and actions (Salovery and Mayer, 1990, ... Show more content on

Research has pointed out the importance for us to develop a clear perspective on the theoretical
development of EQ. Moreover, how this theory may or may not overlap with traditional forms of
intelligence and with psychological skills and strategies as they relate to athletic performance.
In the Lane et al. (2010) study, the researchers have explored the findings of how emotional
intelligence is related to emotions experienced before successful and unsuccessful performances and
how certain emotions are correlated with successful performances and poor performances. Previous
research has shown that emotional intelligence is correlated positively with pleasant emotions and
negatively with unpleasant emotions. Further, Lane et al. (2009c) found emotional intelligence scores
correlated with frequent use of psychological skills. Athletes reporting frequent use of psychological
skills (Thomas et al., 1999) also appear to report high scores on the self report emotional intelligence
scales.
B. Comparison of the purposes posed by the studies
The purpose of the Zizzi et al. (2003) study was to find a relationship between emotional intelligence
and athletic performance in a sample of Division I baseball players. This study explored the
relationships between emotional intelligence and the global measures of baseball performance in a
sample of college baseball players. More specifically, a

Eulogy For Othello
Distinguished guests and citizens of Cyprus and Venice, it is with great sadness we gather today to say
goodbye and pay our respects to Othello, a man who was of great heart. The common ache the we
collectively share is reflected in this mornings, a day of great sorrow, dull, grey, rainy sky. For those of
us who liked Othello and now grieve in his tragic passing knew him in the many differing titles he
held; leader, warrior, husband. But I, knew him as a colleague but above all else a friend. This man
who has departed from us shall long be remembered as a man of immense contradictions. A fearless
warrior on the battle field, a proud and passionate man and a complex and restless character. However,

Despite winning the heart of Desdemona he didn t want to stop, settle down and retire from his
previous exploits. Instead he decided to answer the call, continue to serve us, the people and come to
Cyprus. Unfortunately, this is where he will lie forever. As an outsider who did great deeds for our
country we welcomed him in. However, despite the peace he brought to Cyprus, peace did not come
easily to Othello s heart. In his last days, I got a sense that he never felt completely apart of the
society. Instead an outsider. His biggest insecurity of not feeling accepted led to him being vulnerable
to being influenced and manipulated. We all now know about the tragic circumstances in the events of
his death. Tricked by a man with nothing but jealousy in his heart. However, if we step back and look
at the bigger picture maybe we might to some extent have influenced the circumstances which
surrounded his downfall. Maybe we as a society can learn something from the awful events of the past
days and remember Othello as the man he truly was and not by his last

about in a previous meeting. These four women are assistant directors for the Center for

Dosophila Larval Orn Experiment
The major conclusion from this study is that individual Drosophila larval ORN s are differentially
modulated by animal s starved state. We conclude this based on the following experimental evidence:
First, when we tested the olfactory responses of Drosophila larvae under starved conditions, using the
two choice assay (Monte, Woodard et al. 1989), (Kreher, Mathew et al. 2008) we observed changes in
RI for only three out of the seven odorants tested. This experimental result supports previous work
from Mathew et al., 2013, which demonstrated functional diversity among individual ORNs. Starved
larvae had higher attractiveness to odorants acetal, pentyl acetate and 4, 5 dimethylthiazole. Each of
these odorants elicit strong and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We have observed that acetal, 2, 5 dimethylpyrazine had higher run speed and run length in case of
non starved larvae while for pentyl acetate, the starved larvae had higher run speed and run length. As
of now we cannot explain the reason for this reversed trend in the case of pentyl acetate. However,
with the trends that we have observed for acetal and 2, 5 dimethylpyrazine we conclude that not all
ORN s show similar tracking effect under starvation. Each ORN is functionally diverse and act as
functionally non equivalent units. From our results, overall, we conclude that ORNs contribute
differently to the olfactory circuit under changes in internal states such as starvation. These results
further support previous studies regarding existence of functional individuality among neurons
(Mathew, Martelli et al. 2013). Starved state of the animal impacts olfactory behavior via GABA
signaling As mentioned previously, local neurons secrete GABA and LN s are primarily GABAergic
interneurons (Ng, Roorda et al. 2002). Olfactory receptor neurons express GABA (B) receptors (Root,
Masuyama et al. 2008) and strikingly each ORN channel has unique baseline levels of GABA (B)
receptor expression in adult flies (Root et al., 2008). When the levels of GABA (B) R1 in ORN::Or
42b and in ORN::Or 47a were decreased we observed no effect on starvation dependent behavior

The Differences Between Renewable And Renewable Energy
There are many different energy sources out there today, both renewable and nonrenewable energy
sources. Renewable energy is energy sources that can be replenished over the course of time. Non
renewable energy is energy that will not be replenished over a long period of time (it can take up to
300 360 million years to recreate. (Tiwari, 2011, p.11)). By 2035, nonrenewable won t be able to be
used, or will it? Will renewable energy be sufficient than nonrenewable energy in the future, it now?
The most common nonrenewable energy source is fossil fuels. Fossil fuels include coal, petroleum,
and natural gas. All of these gases contain carbon in them, which hints why it takes longer to be
formed. It s very harmful to the environment because of that reason, they release carbon dioxide into
the atmosphere and also increases global warming. When these gases are burned they release
pollutants into the air, land, and water (Tiwari, 2011, p.4). Fossil fuels are very inexpensive to extract
and are easily stored and sold around the world. Venezuela is one of the biggest oil production places
and their country depends on it economically.
Another example of a nonrenewable energy includes nuclear energy. Although, the production of
nuclear energy is the renewable energy source, the materials used to create it is not. Nuclear energy is
created by splitting or fusing uranium atoms (nuclear fission/fusion) and produces electrical energy. It
also produces radioactive waste, which is very

Irony In The Bicycle Thief
Landscapes of Power and Powerlessness in Graziadei and De Sica s (1948) The Bicycle Thief
Set in the depression times of post World War II Italy, Graziadei and De Sica s (1948) The Bicycle
Thief narrates the story of Antonio Ricci (Lamberto Maggiorani), who, after finding a job as a bill
poster, loses his bicycle to a young thief. He tries to look for it with his son Bruno (Enzo Staiola);
however, despite seeing the thief, he fails to recover his bicycle. Desperate, he tries to steal a bike
himself but is easily thwarted by a group of bystanders. They plan to bring him to the police station
until the owner notices the weeping Bruno and, in an act of compassion, ask others to release the thief.

Henri Lefebvre (1991) asserted that the production of space concerns the performances of power
through (as cited in Aitken Dixon, 2006, p. 332). Space is power. Large spaces between the rich and
the poor in the buying area underline the performance of space. The representation of space is much
more crowded for the poor as shown in the Piazza Vittorio. Gonzaga (2017) would call this the
cinematographic unconscious of slum voyeurism (p. 102). Representational spaces are filled up with
the power of the government and the rich. The scene of the linen being brought up in the warehouse of
linen characterizes society s gross inequality, suggesting that the rich steals from the poor the most.
Depicting the poor as they are illustrates the spaces denied to them. If they are concentrated in any
space, it is the space of neglect and impoverishment. Filmic landscapes in The Bicycle Thief reveal
the reel and the real, the widespread social conditions and their social meanings for the working class
in desperate conditions. De Sica uses mise en scene to reveal poverty and mobility to underline the
lack of movement of the poor. In the end, they steal from each other, an ironic misdeed, when the rich
steals from them the most, specifically by denying them better economic opportunities. The ending is
pessimistic but realistic: the poor have no one else but themselves, as they huddle to an uncertain

During the early republic, Mexico was in a state of change and conflict. Different parties opposed each

they obtained the appropriate individual who could handle the job to make Mexico a better country.
Mexico had been in political turmoil for several years after their independence from Spain in 1821.
About seven million Mexican citizens were poor, landless peasants. Mexico at this time had no middle

Maximilian had agreed to be emperor but was in need for more troops for his protection. Liberals by
this time held on to power in northwestern Mexico and parts of the Pacific Coast. The Mexican
Minister, Matias Romero, built strong allies with Americans to support Mexico. The American Civil
War ended in 1865 which was caused by Juarez s success against Maximilian s forces. Maximilian
alienated his conservative allies by trying to adopt liberal policies in which he failed to win over the

Profit And Non Profit Essay
Profit and Non profits organizations share the common goal of creating a product that will ultimately
generate a surplus. The uses of the surplus are where the two organizations differ. Non profits
organizations take their surplus revenues to further achieve their purpose or mission often aligned with
some social challenge. Profit organizations take their surplus and distribute it to the organizations
shareholder s as profit or dividends. In order to be successful, profit and non profit organizations need
have a strong marketing and public relations plan to ensure their organization is competitive and
relevant to the consumer not only today but in the future as well.
Statement of The Issue Organizations should maintain effective marking and public relations plans to
remain competitive and viable in a society that is consistently changing. It is important for an
organization to have a purpose that is focused on maintaining consumers for duration of times rather
than a short period until the next invention (Levitt, 2004). The issues is as new technology and
invention continue to be discovered organizations must ensure they have a broad definition of their
organization and maintain a close pulse of the customers needs to ensure the business grows with the
needs of its consumers in mind and not simply a product they are trying to sell (Levitt, 2004). One

Synthesis Of T-Butylbenzene Lab Report
he electrophilic aromatic substitution reaction leads to form 1,4 di t butylbenzene from the reaction of
benzene and t butyl chloride. The t butyl cholride is considered not electrophilic enough to react with
benzene, so it needs aluminium chloride catalyst to make it strong electrophile. Aluminium chloride is
a lewis acid. The chloride atom will be separated from t butyl chloride and attached to the aluminium
chloride to become AlCl4. So, the t butyl will be a carbocation, and it will be good electrophile due to
its ability to form carbon carbon bond.

This is because the alkyl group substituent has lone pairs of electron, so it is electron donating group.
This leads to activate the aromatic ring through its work on increasing the electron density on the
aromatic ring by the effect of resonance. The resonance with para position will give carbocation on
two secondary carbons and one tertiary carbon. Para position makes the compound strongly stable
because the alkyl group will push the electrons toward the carbocation on tertiary carbon on the ring.
Mechanism 000000000000000
The resonance with ortho position, like para position, gives one carbocation on tertiary carbons, which
is the carbon that is next to the substituent. Also, ortho position gives carbocation on two secondary
carbon. The positive charge on the tertiary carbon on the ring makes it more stable because of its
location next to electron donating group which pushes the electrons toward the ring. Both ortho and
para positions forms a carbocation of the tertiary carbon. But, para position is more common. This is
because of the effect of steric

Essay on Reaching for a Dream in Literature
Selfish Dream
Everyone has their dreams and whoever puts all his or her efforts and determination in pursuing that
goal is the one who will succeed. However, there are dreamers who have misconceptions about the art
of dreaming. In three pieces of literature I have encountered: The Achievement of Desire by Richard
Rodriguez, A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry and Fences by August Wilson, its characters
fight for their dreams regardless obstacles in their life. Nevertheless, they expose their sense of self

Poor management regarding the quality of the product has been evident by the 64 roll $100, 000 error.
If Portland branch is to remain operational, extensive retraining of management and employees
regarding business expectations, quality and process management in order for the plant s poor quality
approach on its product continue to affect and will likely result of loss of reputation by REXAM

My Personal Experiences In My Life
Essay #1 Have you ever felt like life is difficult? Or not to your expectations? Chances are that we all
have to deal with some difficult situations at times. When I was in Middle School I struggled to fit in
with my classmates. I have always been quiet and just listened to their conversations. They always had
so much to talk about and plans to see movies and other plans such as going to parties and other social
gatherings. But I was never included or invited. I remember one day I came home and went straight to
my room, laid down on my bed and cried. My mom came into my room and asked what was wrong. I
told her what happened that made me feel very sad and cry. A girl in my group passed out invitations
for her birthday party to everyone but me. My mother told me that if I had received the invitation for
the birthday party I would probably be ignored and they would act like as if I wasn t there. And she
also said this is a life lesson that I want you to remember, when you invite someone make sure you
include the whole group or invite privately. Then she told her story about not having time to be with
friends. She came to Santa Barbara from Mexico when she was seventeen years old with her older
sister. A single mother of two daughters, one that was five years old and the other six and a half. And

Analysis Of Bloom s Original Cognitive Process
A group of educators collaborated to develop classifications of learning objectives for the purpose of
creating lessons and the evaluations to accompany them. They constructed objectives to reveal what
students would be able to perform according to the education and organized them in relation to their

The Iron Curtain During The Cold War
The Iron Curtain symbolized the ideological conflict and physical boundary dividing Europe into two
separate areas from the end of world war 2 in 1945 until the end of the cold war in 1991. The term
symbolized efforts by the Soviet union to block itself and its satellite states from open contact with the
west and non Soviet controlled areas. On the east side of the Iron Curtain were the countries that were
connected to or influenced by the Soviet Union. On either side of the Iron Curtain, states developed
their own international economic and military alliances.Churchill s geographical description of the

Communists and Soviet spies and sympathizers inside the United States federal government and

United States Senate.
In February 1950, appearing at the Ohio County Women s Republican Club in Wheeling, West

Hunting Gray Wolves Should Be Illegal
Around the world, there are thousands of wildlife animals. Gray Wolves are one type of them; their
small domestic animals that are very fast, move in packs, and hunt deer and other animals for food.
Despite the fact that Gray Wolves hunt deer, they are helpful animals to the ecosystem. Gray Wolves
keep the ecosystem s movement in check. They actually help the environment more than hurt it. They
can be as friendly like dogs if raised from pups. They re very interesting animals and it should be
illegal to hunt them because they are almost extinct, they keep the prey population in check, and are
unique animals trying to survive. Hunting Gray Wolves should be illegal because they are interesting
animals, that many become extinct if hunting continues. Gray Wolves were once common throughout
all of North America, but were exterminated in most areas of the United States by the mid 1930s (
Basic Facts ). Gray Wolves are being killed by people hunting them. People hunt these wolves for the
fun of it or because they re afraid of them, but what so fun about killing innocent creatures and wolves

3700 grey wolves in the Great Lakes Region and 1675 in the Northern Rockies ( Basic Facts ). If

Essay on Discovering Further Links between Language and Music
Arguably, language is the one thing that sets humans apart from animals. The capacity to share
thoughts and ideas through the spoken word allows humans to function as a group, enabling humanity
to function as an entity greater than the sum of its separate individuals. Music shares similar
properties, as it is also transmitted and perceived through sound. Both have the potential to connect
people and are innate properties of the human being. The aim of this paper is to discover further links
between the two based on empirical evidence. The main sources that will be consulted are articles
produced by Dr. Aniruddh Patel, a pioneer in the field of music psychology, with works ranging from
music cognition to rhythm perception.

It is widely acknowledged by linguists that British English represents stress timed language, whereas
French represents syllable timed language. To detail the exact difference between the two, stress timed
languages have equal duration between stresses, while syllable timed languages show equal duration
between syllable onsets (Patel Daniele, 2003, p. 36). With this basic piece of background information,
Patel Daniele hypothesizes that syllable timed languages have greater variability in the duration of its
vowels as opposed to syllable timed languages. Intuitively, this makes sense since the temporal
distance between syllables is smaller compared to the distance between the various points of stresses
made in speech, which can span multiple syllables and words. This logic gave birth to the normalized
Pairwise Variability Index measure of speech rhythm or simply, nPVI.
As the term pairwise suggests, the nPVI takes the length between each pair of adjacent events in time,
and calculates how much variability there is among the various duration of vowels compared to the
average duration over the entire series of events. The main strength of the nPVI measure lies in the
fact that it is a relative measure of events that take place over time, allowing one to take an nPVI value
for both music and language and selectively measure the variability of speech rhythm and musical
rhythm within the same

The American s part in the Battle of Iwo Jima
Before World War Il, Iwo Jima had no importance to Japan. Once World War Il began, it became an
important stepping stone for America to conquer Japan. The United States wasn t planning on being
apart of World War Il, until the Japanese provoked them into retaliation. Japan planned to attack the
U.S. in retaliation for the oil. The U.S. Refused to give Japan more oil, then Japan bombed Pearl
Harbor, which killed thousands of soldiers. The day after the attack on Pearl Harbor, President
Roosevelt declared war on Japan. Germany and Japan were joined together as the Axis Powers.
Germany then declared war on the U.S. and World War Il was started.

The Mexico Legal System
A legal system is a process or a procedure used to interpret and enforce the law. It leads to the process
of elaborating the responsibilities and rights in different ways. There are three major legal systems
found in the world: religious law, common law and civil law. A major component is the jury system
which involves the process of determining the general facts in a lawsuit (Raz, 2010). A good example
would include a tax system which is a legal system for collecting and assessing taxes, whereas an
electoral one is involved in making choices that are democratic. Mexico has had a rich journey in the

The Role Of Australian Securities And Investments Commission
Introduction
There are several things to consider when forming and operating a business. In Australia, laws
established by the Australian Government govern businesses. There are regulators to business and also
there are market exchanges that require strict adherence to different regulations in order for
organisations to participate.
In this report, we will examine the procedures required by the Corporations Act 2001 in order to
establish a small proprietary business. We will also examine the role of the Australian Securities
Exchange in society and what is required for a company to have its shares listed on the Exchange.
Finally, we will examine the role the Australian Securities and Investments commission has in
regulating company behavior.
Establishing a Small Proprietary Business
When it comes to open a new business, small or bigger, it has to follow determined rules and laws
described in the Corporations Act 2001.
Those rules relate to all different aspects of the business: directors, secretaries, type, number and price
of shares and it is necessary to fill an application form that will be sent to ASIC (Australian Securities
and Investments Commission).
The first thing that has to be decided is if the company will be limited or not by shares. This means
that the members will have to cover with their private funds and assets the company s liability.
The company will have at least one member and maximum 50 shareholders. It is important that a

Benefits Of Legalizing Abortion
Over the years, abortion has been a large source of discussion with people arguing whether or not it
should be legalized. However, it has been shown in the past that making abortion illegal would not
stop abortion and neither would it stop the death rate from abortion. There s a chance that the death
rate will only rise. In addition, banning abortion would not only take away a woman s right to control
her own life and health, but also force women to go through with a pregnancy they are unprepared for.
People from each side of the argument can agree that abortion can be prevented, but a woman should
not be forced to have a child when she is not prepared for it. Making abortions illegal is not the way to
prevent them, and in the long run, it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are more safer and efficient options to get rid of abortion, but the option of having an abortion
should not be taken away from women. Preventing women who are unprepared to have a child from
having an abortion can also put that woman and child into a bad situation and it is very rare that a
single woman will put her child up for adoption. Finding common ground on the abortion debate is
difficult due to the different moral beliefs of each side, but in the end, simply banning abortion is not
going to stop it and will only worsen the issue at

Syntax And Diction In Thomas Jefferson s Declaration Of...
The Declaration of Independence is formal. In The Declaration of Independence Thomas Jefferson
calls for the separation of the American colonists from the grips of an abusive and tyrannical England.
He makes his position clear to the colonist and most importantly the world by using persuasive
appeals, syntax and diction. In the first two paragraphs he not only establishes the credibility of the
revolutionaries, but also lays out a logical argument that sets forth the philosophical beliefs upon
which America was founded. Beginning in line 45 Jefferson lays down his massive list of specific
grievances that the King of England has committed against America. He states that he is very well
aware that King George has refused his Assent to Laws, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So after all of these cries for action the Americans have come to the conclusion that their so called
brethren are, Enemies in War, in Peace Friends. The chiasmus conveys perfectly that Jefferson and the
colonies are willing to go to war with even their families for the price of freedom. The chiasmus
ending Jefferson s second to last paragraph also further establishes his credibility. It shows that he and
his revolutionaries will stand by their unalienable rights, no matter the cost. In the final paragraph
Jefferson again furthers his credibility when he calls his fellow revolutionaries, the good People of
these Colonies. This statement in essence means that colonist are not uncivilized monsters who just
want to get rid of the king, but are actual good natured people. Jefferson climaxes the last paragraph
with the statement, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor, a
chilling statement that ultimately paints its speaker and his cohorts as heroes willing to risk their
whole existence for their

Essay on Mendin Wall
Walls Have Two
In Robert Frost amp;#8217;s amp;#8220;Mending Wall, ; he shows a man views about a wall. The
man names both pros and cons of having the wall. He also hints at how a wall might affect a particular
society. The poem is a conversation between two neighbors on either side of a wall. The main speaker
amp;#8217;s conversation shows his views about the purpose of the wall, and it amp;#8217;s
effectiveness to either bring people together, or it amp;#8217;s tendency to separate them.

But since the wall needs repairing every spring the two neighbors have reason to be together. Though
the two don amp;#8217;t speak much about meaningful things they are still together. And maybe this
is why the second speaker thinks that amp;#8220;Good fences make good neighbors ; (27).
The speaker contradicts his early view of the wall amp;#8217;s ability to bring people together when
he shows how the wall separates people. He demonstrates this when he says, amp;#8220;And set the
wall between us once again we keep the wall between us as we go ; (14). Even at the time when the
two are mending the wall there is no conversation about each of their personal lives. Instead all that
they talk about is the object that separates them, the wall. The wall seems to take away from them
becoming more knowledgeable about each other amp;#8217;s lives, which often hinders a friendship.
The speaker also refers to a wall as giving separation through offense when he says, amp;#8220;And
to whom I was like to give offense ; (34).
This poem offers a holistic view of a wall and it amp;#8217;s affect on neighbors. This aspect of the
poem allows the reader to decide on the need for a wall. Walls serve many purposes in society like
boundaries, defense, and offense. But should society as a whole let wall separate itself from one
another. So the question still stands do walls or fences really make

Nonviolent Resistance Essay
Nonviolent resistance is the practice of achieving goals such as social change through symbolic
protests, civil disobedience, economic or political noncooperation, satyagraha, or other methods,
without using violence. This type of action highlights the desires of an individual or group that feels
that something needs to change to improve the current condition of the resisting person or group. It is
largely but wrongly taken as synonymous with civil resistance. Each of these terms nonviolent
resistance and civil resistance has its distinct merits and also quite different connotations and

Current nonviolent resistance includes the Jeans Revolution in Belarus, the Jasmine Revolution in
Tunisia, and the fight of the Cuban dissidents. Many movements which promote philosophies of
nonviolence or pacifism have pragmatically adopted the methods of nonviolent action as an effective
way to achieve social or political goals. They employ nonviolent resistance tactics such as:
information warfare, picketing, marches, vigils, leafletting, samizdat, magnitizdat, satyagraha, protest
art, protest music and poetry, community education and consciousness raising, lobbying, tax
resistance, civil disobedience, boycotts or sanctions, legal/diplomatic wrestling, underground
railroads, principled refusal of awards/honours, and general strikes. Nonviolent action differs from
pacifism by potentially being proactive and interventionist.A great deal of work has addressed the
factors that lead to violent mobilization, but less attention has been paid to understanding why
disputes become violent or nonviolent, comparing these two as strategic choices relative to

How Children Acquire Aggressive Reponses
Childhood Aggression
Many studies found frustration, various drugs, beliefs, traits and provocation are some influences that
effect childhood aggression. Archer (1991) concentrated on biological influence such as
norepinephrine, serotonin, cortisol and testosterone. This brief will focus on several theories that
elevate aggression and can be positively modified by family and environment. Aggression was defined
by Volavka Citrome (1999) as, a physical behaviour that causes psychological or physical harm or
damage to objects or living beings. Aggression is often divided into two types one being instrumental,
or proactive aggression and is pre meditated and frequently goal directed resulting from a lack of
emotional sensitivity. In contrast, reactive aggression stems from excess emotional sensitivity and is
developed through negative experiences and emotions including anger and anxiety (Tremblay et al.,
2005).
According to (Bandura, 1983, 2001; Mischel, 1973; Mischel Shoda, 1995), children acquire
aggressive responses; either by observing others or by direct experience and this is similar to how they
learn any form of social behaviour. Bandura (1983) examined this social learning theory and explained
how the observational learning processes and modelling the behaviour of others can escalate the
acquisition of aggressive behaviours by children in certain situations. This theory is closely associated
to Huesmann s (1986, 1998) script theory. Huesmann (1986, 1998)

Emile Durkheim s Influence On Society Émile Durkheim was born in France in 1858 to a Jewish family and started attending a rabbinical school at a young age but eventually decided not to continue on that path and instead became an agnostic. He eventually went on to become a philosophy teacher and is considered to have played a pivotal roll in the rise of sociology. Durkheim believed that society shaped every aspect of human thought and behavior. He promoted the importance of society and suggests that without it things like art, family, laws and morality could not exist. He insists that although we are all individual beings with the capability of making our own decisions, all of our life choices are made within a sociological structure provide to us from the day were are born. He believed these social ties were so important that we needed an entire discipline scientifically committed to understanding it. He wanted data to be collected, studied and compared. Thus the field of Sociology was born, and Durkheim considered the father of it. While attempting to understand the social Durkheim was continuously led back to the religious. Durkheim found that religion and society were absolutely synonymous and that one could not survive without the other stating, If religion has given birth to all that is essential in society, it is because the idea of society is the soul of religion. In today s society things that may be considered obscene and pornographic are much more easily attained by the average person. She believes that one of the reasons porn is so easily accessible to the public is because many people cannot differentiate between pornography, obscenity and modern art or literature; what is considered vulgar and distasteful by some, can also be thought of as beautiful and classy by others. Brownmiller explains that the women portrayed in magazines today are photoshopped to represent what a desirable woman is supposed to look like; this has led many women, including the writer, to feel ashamed and uncomfortable with their bodies. It is because of these reasons that the writer feels that there should be restrictions on what is allowed to be provided and distributed to the public. She also believes that the government needs to use today s societal norms, which apply to the everyday average person to figure out what should be allowed to be released to the public. The writer states at the end of her article that she doesn t believe the government should prohibit what she defines as vulgar and distasteful pornography and obscenity, but requests that it should be removed from every day public ... • 5. Disadvantages Of Tapons 1. Issue description: Hint: Be specific in your description, of what your activity is specifically, what is its frequency, etc. and why it is not sustainable. My Sustainability Assessment will address the unsustainable effects of Tampons ecologically and socially. Tampons are greatly used among women, as they approximately use 9,300 tampons in their lifetime. It is also very convenient and compact as it can be seen on every store shelf. However, there are many disadvantages in its use. Every woman has their period every month. Hence, the tampons are greatly needed. With this need is a health risk that can affect women in the future, such as dioxin residue, and chemicals in fragrances that are found within the tampon itself. In these chemicals lies a more dangerous risk, which is Toxic Shock Syndrome, pelvic inflammation to name a few. Thus, a woman s need can also be the one that can put her in danger. Tampons, as small as it can seem, can also harm the environment. The production of cotton uses pesticides that can be carcinogenic and can leave traces in tampons. The plastic applicator found in tampons can harm marine ecosystem and can take years to degrade. The tampon, itself, that are found in landfills can t also degrade and can cause carbon emissions. On the other hand, Tampons are controlled and manufactured by well known companies such as Procter Gamble, and Johnson Johnson, which makes it economically stable. Feminine products, such as tampons, can increase up to the US $35.4 Billion in global sales. With this power, they can deceive the customers into thinking that their product is safe when it is not. 2. Desired outcomes: Briefly explain each of the following outcomes: (a) My issue is/is not ecologically sound because... Tampons have always been in the garbage every month, as every woman uses it. A tampon has super absorbent, dense fibers that are petroleum based, which takes up a slower process to degrade in areas that are at a colder temperature. Moreover, its plastic applicators can also be a cause in harming the marine ecosystem. Some of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Eulogy For Othello Distinguished guests and citizens of Cyprus and Venice, it is with great sadness we gather today to say goodbye and pay our respects to Othello, a man who was of great heart. The common ache the we collectively share is reflected in this mornings, a day of great sorrow, dull, grey, rainy sky. For those of us who liked Othello and now grieve in his tragic passing knew him in the many differing titles he held; leader, warrior, husband. But I, knew him as a colleague but above all else a friend. This man who has departed from us shall long be remembered as a man of immense contradictions. As an outsider who did great deeds for our country we welcomed him in. However, despite the peace he brought to Cyprus, peace did not come easily to Othello s heart. In his last days, I got a sense that he never felt completely apart of the society. Instead an outsider. His biggest insecurity of not feeling accepted led to him being vulnerable to being influenced and manipulated. We all now know about the tragic circumstances in the events of his death. Tricked by a man with nothing but jealousy in his heart. There are always at least a few people sitting at the tables in the front room of the Venture Studio. We conclude this based on the following experimental evidence: First, when we tested the olfactory responses of Drosophila larvae under starved conditions, using the two choice assay (Monte, Woodard et al. 1989), (Kreher, Mathew et al. 2008) we observed changes in RI for only three out of the seven odorants tested. This experimental result supports previous work from Mathew et al., 2013, which demonstrated functional diversity among individual ORNs. Starved larvae had higher attractiveness to odorants acetal, pentyl acetate and 4, 5 dimethylthiazole. Each of these odorants elicit strong and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We have observed that acetal, 2, 5 dimethylpyrazine had higher run speed and run length in case of non starved larvae while for pentyl acetate, the starved larvae had higher run speed and run length. As of now we cannot explain the reason for this reversed trend in the case of pentyl acetate. However, with the trends that we have observed for acetal and 2, 5 dimethylpyrazine we conclude that not all ORN s show similar tracking effect under starvation. Each ORN is functionally diverse and act as functionally non equivalent units. From our results, overall, we conclude that ORNs contribute differently to the olfactory circuit under changes in internal states such as starvation. These results further support previous studies regarding existence of functional individuality among neurons (Mathew, Martelli et al. 2013). Starved state of the animal impacts olfactory behavior via GABA signaling As mentioned previously, local neurons secrete GABA and LN s are primarily GABAergic interneurons (Ng, Roorda et al. 2002). Olfactory receptor neurons express GABA (B) receptors (Root, Masuyama et al. 2008) and strikingly each ORN channel has unique baseline levels of GABA (B) receptor expression in adult flies (Root et al., 2008). When the levels of GABA (B) R1 in ORN::Or 42b and in ORN::Or 47a were decreased we observed no effect on starvation dependent behavior ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Differences Between Renewable And Renewable Energy There are many different energy sources out there today, both renewable and nonrenewable energy sources. Renewable energy is energy sources that can be replenished over the course of time. Non renewable energy is energy that will not be replenished over a long period of time (it can take up to 300 360 million years to recreate. (Tiwari, 2011, p.11)). By 2035, nonrenewable won t be able to be used, or will it? Will renewable energy be sufficient than nonrenewable energy in the future, it now? The most common nonrenewable energy source is fossil fuels. Fossil fuels include coal, petroleum, and natural gas. All of these gases contain carbon in them, which hints why it takes longer to be formed. It s very harmful to the environment because of that reason, they release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and also increases global warming. When these gases are burned they release pollutants into the air, land, and water (Tiwari, 2011, p.4). Fossil fuels are very inexpensive to extract and are easily stored and sold around the world. Venezuela is one of the biggest oil production places and their country depends on it economically. Another example of a nonrenewable energy includes nuclear energy. Although, the production of nuclear energy is the renewable energy source, the materials used to create it is not. Nuclear energy is created by splitting or fusing uranium atoms (nuclear fission/fusion) and produces electrical energy. It also produces radioactive waste, which is very ... Space is power. Large spaces between the rich and the poor in the buying area underline the performance of space. The representation of space is much more crowded for the poor as shown in the Piazza Vittorio. Gonzaga (2017) would call this the cinematographic unconscious of slum voyeurism (p. 102). Representational spaces are filled up with the power of the government and the rich. The scene of the linen being brought up in the warehouse of linen characterizes society s gross inequality, suggesting that the rich steals from the poor the most. Depicting the poor as they are illustrates the spaces denied to them. If they are concentrated in any space, it is the space of neglect and impoverishment. Filmic landscapes in The Bicycle Thief reveal the reel and the real, the widespread social conditions and their social meanings for the working class in desperate conditions. De Sica uses mise en scene to reveal poverty and mobility to underline the lack of movement of the poor. The outcome is extensively recognized as Bloom s taxonomy. It is widely acknowledged by linguists that British English represents stress timed language, whereas French represents syllable timed language. To detail the exact difference between the two, stress timed languages have equal duration between stresses, while syllable timed languages show equal duration between syllable onsets (Patel Daniele, 2003, p. 36). With this basic piece of background information, Patel Daniele hypothesizes that syllable timed languages have greater variability in the duration of its vowels as opposed to syllable timed languages. Intuitively, this makes sense since the temporal distance between syllables is smaller compared to the distance between the various points of stresses made in speech, which can span multiple syllables and words. This logic gave birth to the normalized Pairwise Variability Index measure of speech rhythm or simply, nPVI. As the term pairwise suggests, the nPVI takes the length between each pair of adjacent events in time, and calculates how much variability there is among the various duration of vowels compared to the average duration over the entire series of events. The main strength of the nPVI measure lies in the fact that it is a relative measure of events that take place over time, allowing one to take an nPVI value for both music and language and selectively measure the variability of speech rhythm and musical rhythm within the same ... This theory is closely associated to Huesmann s (1986, 1998) script theory. Huesmann (1986, 1998) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
