The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time Analysis
As Christopher Boone says, entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem, (page 90) it is
needless to say that the acknowledgment of existing psychological issues as well as
understanding them are absolutely necessary when comprehending our world. In The Curious
Incident of the Dog in the Night Time, Mark Haddon extends the scope of such psychological
disorders through a diary narrative, as Christopher unravels the murder of Mrs. Shears black
poodle and the layers of internal thoughts as to why he despises the color yellow or why prime
numbers ease his disparities. Despite his prodigious capacities in A level mathematics and astute
memory, such gifts are encumbered with the inhibition of socialization and awkwardness comprised

we see in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time, Christopher prefers to be in the
presence of silence accompanied by his pet rat. Such challenges confine him into repetitive routines

with hands over his ears to counteract noise whenever he is distraught however, this behavior may
be inappropriate to those who observe this occurrence. With the inability to supply adequate
communication, he finds himself arrested for assaulting a police officer unable to convey his
discomforts of being touched. This exemplifies the difficulties in communication for both those

Flat Belly Diet Evaluation
Overview and Evaluation of the Flat Belly Diet Co created by a former Prevention magazine
editor and a registered dietitian, the Flat Belly Diet will supposedly assist the dieter in losing up
to 15 lbs. along with several inches of belly fat in 32 days, all without exercising (although
exercise is not a requirement of the diet, it is encouraged and an optional exercise plan is
included), by restricting calorie intake and regularly consuming monounsaturated fatty acids
(MUFA), which will allegedly target, destroy, and prevent belly fat. The Flat Belly Diet follows a
Mediterranean style of eating with fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, olive oil, and fish as

Seborrheic Dermatitis
Seborrheic dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory dermatosis characterized by redness and scaling
and is typically seen in the brows, nasolabial folds (NLF), and chest.1 Topical antifungals such as
ketoconazole can be helpful, but resistant seborrheic dermatitis often requires topical steroids or
steroid sparing agents such as tacrolimus.2 The exact cause and pathogenesis of seborrheic
dermatitis is not known. However, inflammation is known to play a role in seborrheic dermatitis.
The disease has a preference for body sites with increased or larger sebaceous glands (ie face,
scalp). Sebaceous glands create an environment favorable for growth of lipid dependent fungi such
as Malassezia. Multiple seborrheic dermatitis treatment studies have demonstrated

people were curious how the Tang dynasty did it, but no one knows. Tang chao, the emperor of
the Tang dynasty, was a man with a great ambition. Since he ascended the throne, there was only
one goal he was going to accomplish which is to unify the world. There were many powerful
dynasties tried to bring the world under their domination since thousands of years ago.

ambition, because his dynasty was not strong enough. Many dynasties around him that can easily

Identity In Chopin s The Awakening
Chopin s work has allowed her to become recognized more over time. As women keep gaining
rights, so are Chopin s works of literature acquiring literary attention. Chopin realized that people
valued morality, especially when it came to things such as adultery and the marital discord
caused by such, so she decided to use those two items to try and deliver a message concerning an
overarching patriarchy that set into motion internal strife for stereotypically frail individuals and
women alike who had been cornered by the strangling ideology. Chopin uses identity as a main
focal point concerning her philosophy over her search for self and desire to express herself when
being subjugated. Edna serves as a perfect example of Chopin showing the... Show more content on

Edna also exemplifies the impossibility as it pertains to a woman achieving such a dastardly
goal at the time. Edna begins on her journey towards feminine selfhood early in the novel and
while doing so evokes sympathy and understanding. For Edna, It s far easier to see her either as
an innocent victim crushed by a merciless, absolute patriarchy, or as having the last laugh by
ducking out of life s impassable and unfair obstacles (Ramos, Unbearable realism: freedom, ethics
and identity in The Awakening. ). However, Chopin writes thoughtfully and uses Edna s journey
for even more than what Ramos states above and describes it as, an unrestricted, undefined and,
ultimately, impossible state ironically [depriving] her life of meaning (and finally of life itself)
(Ramos, Unbearable realism: freedom, ethics and identity in The Awakening. ). In this way she
delivers the message concerning an overarching patriarchy and its damages by describing Edna as
innocent and crushed by a merciless patriarchy, while also speaking out about the dangers of
valuing self over the other individual s in one s life. Chopin, using Edna from The Awakening,

As the world moved throughout the time of 1890 1945, the United states experienced a myriad of
events that moved it closer to the founding ideals. However, the main ideal, which was supported
by plenty of actions, became evident to be opportunity . Some of the events that brought the United
States closer to the American ideals was the great migration, women in WWII, and African
Americans in WWII. Each of these happenings/positions opened doors to other people allowing
them to explore new possibilities, hence why they support the forward movement to the ideal of

the Double V Campaign, and the progress that came with it. This is a campaign in which black
leaders called for all citizens to fight against racism by seeking a double victory a victory for
democracy at home and abroad. Therefore, it encouraged thousands of African Americans to line
up to join the armed forces, with the draft of 1940. Originally, many services would not accept
blacks. However, with time, the armed services started to accept more blacks. In 1941, the first

United States closer to the ideal of opportunity because it brought opportunities for African
Americans that would not have been approved in the earlier times. This unit proved African
Americans to be strong, willing components in war by having the reputation of skill and courage,

Essay about Remains of the Day
Remains of the Day
Kazuo Ishiguro s Remains of the Day is about the struggles one man, Mr. Stevens, has with
relationships with his father, Miss Kenton and his employer, but the struggle he focuses on the
most is to be a great butler. He pushes himself physically to work as hard as he can, as well as
mentally to determine what makes a butler great. Stevens sacrifices all normal human encounters
with those around him in order to be an emotionless person. When one encounters them, one simply
knows one is in the presence of greatness (44). Stevens, through many trials, proves himself to be a
great butler.
Stevens possesses the emotional restraint which only the English race are capable of (43). When

When returning from a date Miss Kenton asks Mr. Stevens, Are you not in the least interested in
what too place tonight between my acquaintance and I? (218). Mr. Stevens acts as though he is
more interested in returning to his work when really he is dying to know. Miss Kenton does all she
can to get Stevens to show some sort of emotion, but she always fails. She even tries to anger him
by telling him that she and her acquaintance often pass the time amusing [themselves] with
anecdotes about [him] (219). He just brushes her comments off and goes about his business.
Stevens fixation with being a great butler instigates his lack of personality and social skills. He
has pushed his feelings deep within himself for so many years that he does not know how to act
naturally around people. When his employer, Mr. Faraday, suggests Stevens taking a road trip one
day, Mr. Stevens spends the next few weeks trying to think of a way to bring up the topic again:
It nevertheless made sense not to broach the topic when he was preoccupied or distracted. A refusal
in such circumstances may well not reflect my employer s true feelings on the matter... I had to
choose my moment wisely. (12)
Stevens does not know how to deal with people naturally. He has to plan a conversation and
responses to his employer so that he appears at ease, when really he is extremely nervous. Stevens,
who always has his guard up, is not capable of

1.2 Explain The Importance Of Children s Secondary Sources
A secondary source is written after an event has occurred and is written by someone who has
viewed the event second hand and has a different perspective, usually someone who looks beyond
the main event and can broaden your view on the situation. Unlike a primary source coming from
someone who has witnessed the event or heard first hand, the secondary sourceis to read about the
event and give their perspective of the situation. Collecting a child s secondary sources can come
from their mother or another family member who knows the child s background information,
otherwise their child care nurse or speech pathologist.
Using children s records is an important part of tracking a child s progression, the child s carer
needs to take into account the children s interests, learning styles, skills, behaviour, and how they

How Does Ancient Egyptian Culture Affect Modern Day Society s?
Ancient Egypt was the first civilization to make use of the sciences, including math and medical
uses. Clocks, sports, a twelve month calendar, farming, building are also believed to originate in
Ancient Egypt. All of these influences our everyday lives.
The Egyptians created a decimal system that used seven different symbols. Mathematical text can
be traced back to around 2000 1800 BC. By then the Egyptians had a grasp of multiplication,
division, prime numbers, geometry and fractions.
Ancient Egypt was the first civilization to invent a way to measure time. Not only did they invent
the calendar, they were also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Obelisks can also be found as tombstones in U.S. cemeteries. The modern day alphabet is believed
to have been influenced by a complex system of hieroglyphs, which used 24 symbols for
consonants, along with many other symbols. The Egyptians invented the 354 day lunar calendar
made up of 12 months that correlated with the lunar cycle. It was split into three seasons that
reflected the natural cycle of the River Nile, flood, spring and low water. The year started with the
reappearance of the star Sirius, which signaled the rising of the Nile River. A 365 day calendar
was later invented, consisting of 12 lunar months of 30 days, and then split into three seasons, and
five extra days at the end of the year. It was not until 30 BC that the Romans added an extra day to
every fourth month to give us the calendar we use today.
The Ancient Egyptians brought to us many inventions, such as Scissors, combs, toothbrushes and
toothpaste. They are also credited with creating the lock and key, the weaving loom, drums, and the
first oil lamps.
Wooden door locks were used to protect the property. A hollowed out bolt was connected to pins
that could be moved by inserting a key. Egyptian locks were more secure than spring locks later
used by the Romans. Like many of the ancient civilizations, ancient Egypt wasn t the most
sophisticated when it came to medicine, but they were ahead of the rest of the world in

Organic Food Vs Organic Food
Inorganic is a word everyone associates with healthy food. It can be spotted on the labels in
supermarkets and local grocery stores. The demand for organic food has even increased as more
people associate it with being healthy and environmentally friendly. However, how organic is
organic food? Is organic foodworth the extra cost? Does organic food have that much more
nutrients than conventional food? These are all questions that ponder many people s brains.
Organic food receives mixed reviews. Some perceive it to be much more beneficial than
conventional foods while others do not. However, organic food is worth the recognition it receives
as it is high quality. The market for organic food is worth the extra dollars because it is very
beneficial for human health, the environment, and animal production.
A common controversy is if organic food is truly richer in nutrients. Some consumers argue that
there is not a large enough difference between the nutrient levels that makes organic food worth the
buy. Although this may be true in some cases, the right amount of nutrients is necessary for overall
body health. In a recent study conducted by Sapienza University of Rome, the vitamin C, vitamin
E, and carotenoids were higher in organic food than conventional (Brantsæter, 2017). In addition,
there were more minerals present in the organic food such as calcium, potassium, phosphorous,
magnesium, and iron which all maintain homeostasis in the body. Furthermore, another study

Theme Of Glory And Grief In The Iliad
A flip of a coin
In the midst of the bloodshed caused by discord between two mighty empires, the characters of
Homer s Iliad are exposed to the multifaceted essence of warfare and thus experience both the
feelings of glory as well as grief. In this way, we can compare the nature of war to that of a
coin. When flipped to kleos, fame achieved through exploits in battle, the characters experience an
increase in social status and earn admiration from their people. When flipped to the other side, the
characters grieve for the death of their loved ones caused by the violence of war. As the bard who
recites an intricate and heart wrenching story concerning love, loss, and warfare, Homer shapes his
narration around the poignant sentiments instigated by the duality of war which results from the
rabid pursuit of glory. A central theme is the struggle between everlasting kleos and a long life
without glory is what encapsulates the dual nature of warfare, which creates heroes but also brings
loss to families and devastation to societies.
(Giles 55). By illustrating both of the stories that result from a single event, Homer balances the
dualistic aspects of glory and grief to communicate that glory and grief are an inevitable result of
fundamentally flawed human nature.
Homer centers the two reactions to war, glory, and grief, mostly around the two most celebrated
warriors of their respective people, Hector, and Achilles. Through his narration, the audience is
aware of the character s

William Blake Syntax
Through diction, figurative language and imagery, and syntax, William Blake conveys an intense
and curious tone, revealing the doubt of whether or not human power was given by a higher being.
The author, William Blake, uses connotation to make his audience understand what the true subject
of the poem that he refers to is. For example, the word, tyger, in this poem is not specifying an
actual tiger, but is used to represent humans. When Blake says, thy fearful symmetry, he is giving
the tygerthe characteristics of strength and power. Humans, as well, are strong and have the
potential to create a big impact on the world, just as tigers do in the wild. Overall, the main focus
of this poem is who the creator of the tyger is. This is supported with And what shoulder, what art

that communism would take over the world and wipe out democracy. They were afraid that a

`` The Screwtape Letters Of The Devil And Give Us An...
C. S. Lewis, one of the greatest spiritual writers the world has known, wrote the Screwtape
Letters to mock the evil works of the devil and give us an understanding of spiritual warfare that
is constantly going on all around us. Many people refuse to believe their lives are being
interfered with by spiritual forces, but it is not something that should be ignored. Lewis saw the
importance in recognizing spiritual warfare in order to learn how to fight it, and that is one of his
inspirations for writing this book. Although we aren t sure how demons attempt to lead us away
from God, Lewis gives a detailed account on what he believes is a way they could go about it. The
Screwtape Lettersis a book made up of letters from a demon, Screwtape, addressed to his nephew,
Wormwood. Wormwood is assigned his first patient and it is his skilled Uncle Screwtape s job to
help him through the process. A patient is the demon s human that they are assigned to keep away
from God and to constantly face with temptation. Screwtape receives reports from Wormwood
each week and then responds with advice and techniques. Screwtape highlights many different
ways to keep us from following God, especially with limiting our understanding of real to mean
only the material (23). In other words, demons don t want us to think about the spiritual world
around us, only about real materials lacking the meaning of the purpose of life so that we don t ask
questions about what will happen to us after death.

Identify points with largest and smallest residuals: sort residuals list in 1/5 list in 5/l (The last
command is minus 5 / lowercase letter L .) 7. Compute multiple regression equation (vy is

Important Notes on the stem command In some versions of Stata, there is a potential glitch with
Stata s stem command for stem and leaf plots. The stem function seems to permanently reorder
the data so that they are sorted according to the variable that the stem and leaf plot was plotted
for. The best way to avoid this problem is to avoid doing any stem and leaf plots (do histograms
instead). However, if you really want to do a stem and leaf plot you should always create a
variable containing the original observation numbers (called index, for example). A command to
do so is: generate index = _n If you do this, then you can re sort the data after the stem and leaf
plot according to the index variable: sort index. Then, the data are back in the original order.
Summary of These and Other Commands Here is a list of the commands demonstrated above and
some other commands that you may find useful (this is by no means an exhaustive list of all Stata
commands): anova| general ANOVA, ANCOVA, or regression| by| repeat operation for categories

Essay on Mo Money, Mo Greed Corruption
Mo Money, Mo Greed Corruption
The American dream: a spouse, a few children, a lucrative job, a nice home, and of course, some
material luxuries. Those who are able to realize this goal have my respect and they should be
proud of their accomplishments. However, my beef arises with the very few Americans who
greatly surpass this dream. Yes, I mean the multi millionaires and billionaires of America.
The wealthiest one percent of our nation owns half the financial assets and 38 percent of the total
wealth. They have more money than the bottom 90 percent combined. The next richest nine percent

If you follow financial news, then the name Tyco should also ring a bell. Tyco International s two
top executives have been accused of looting $600 million from the company s accounts. The
CEO, Dennis Kozlowski, squandered much of this money on excessive luxuries, like a $6,000
shower curtain for his penthouse apartment. He also spent $2 million of Tyco s money on his wife
s fortieth birthday party. The party was on the Mediterranean island of Sardinia and featured
fireworks, ice sculptures, flaming messages in the sky, a private Jimmy Buffet concert, and many
other extravagances. Kozlowski is currently on trial in New York. The list of companies involved
in this sort of corporate fraud is long, and includes MCI/WorldCom, HealthSouth, and several other
Fortune 500 firms.
The financial services industry people who work with these corrupt companies are also far from
innocent. In April of this year, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) fined ten top Wall
Street firms a total of $1.4 billion because of improper analyst research activities. Analysts are
highly paid researchers who focus specifically in one industry, or even on one company, and give
recommendations on whether to buy, sell, or hold a certain financial security. The SEC found that
over the last five years or so, many analysts were unfairly rating companies based on their bank s
relationship with that company. For instance, if Microsoft did a lot of investment banking business

Analyse the factors that contributed to the emergence of a workers opposition movement in
Communist Poland in the period 1956 1981.
After World War II, the official communist party dominated all aspects of Polish politics, which
soon became an issue with not only the working class of the country, but also the intellectual and
educated Polish community. Between 1956 and 1981, there was an emergence of workers
opposition against the communist party in Poland due to the blatant oppression and desperate
living conditions of many of the Polish workers and their families. Workers demanded rapid change
in policy from the party because the workers believed the government had ... Show more content on

(Doc 4) The intellectual and party member support helped the workers movement gain serious
momentum. A major factor in the emergence of the workers opposition movement also was the
support of the Catholic Church and the Pope specifically. In September of 1976, the bishops of
the Catholic Church in Poland called for the government and party to fully respect civil rights and
conduct a real dialogue with society while also demanding that they stop all repression of workers
involved in the protests of June 1976. (Doc 5) The fierce and somewhat scolding tone in which the
demands are made show the Catholic Church s unwavering support for the Polish workers
opposition. It is not surprising, however, that a group of Catholic bishops would demand better
treatment for the Polish workers because, as members of the church, they would naturally be in
favour of social justice. The value of having the Catholic Church support the movement manifests
itself in the fact that the Polish communist party begins to require all teachers to tell students that
the pope is an enemy and dangerous man who only wishes to charm the crowd. (Doc 7) This
response to the pope s support demonstrates that the party itself realised that the church could have
tremendous impact on the turnout of the opposition. By the 1980s, a coalition of independent trade
unions, known as Solidarity, was established in Gdansk. The photograph of Lech Walesa and other

How Did Shakespeare Use Astrology During The Renaissance
Most of what s been said about shakespeare s use of Astrology was so simplistic that it s
irrelevant. Mainly because the people reading his work don t know enough about it while they are
reading it. Astrology during the Renaissance was based on the complex system of numbers, the
Part of Fortune, and harmony of spheres. Professional astrologers that hear him not only catch his
references to the stars, planets, and signs, but also the pervasive and underlying worldview that
astrology is the central study of the universe. During the renaissance, ordinary folks tended to use
terms like the stars to mean luck or fortune and the names of the planets for some quality that was
specific to that planet, as Mars to anger or Venus to love.

Crime Affects Crime
My research question is How does committing crimes affect a person s physical health and do
different crimes affect physical health more or less? It is important to the criminal justice system to
determine how much crime actually affects the health of an offender. Assuming that committing
crimes causes stress to the individual, stress can show negative side effects on the human body that
can be physical or mental. By identifying any health problems created by committing crimes, one
could potentially deter potential criminals. In the criminal justicesystem in the United States, there
currently is not much deterrence for criminals in regards to punishment. There is the potential to
use the risk of them affecting their health as a deterrent. It is also important to look at how different
crimes affect the physical health of an offender. For instance, a small crimesuch as shoplifting may
not cause as much stress as robbery. Looking into the potential for higher stress levels in certain
crimes could lead to offenders avoiding those crimes. If criminals stop committing the higher stress
crimes, it can help law enforcement and citizens focus on stopping the lesser crimes.
Although I could not find an article or experiment related to crime causing stress, I found the
opposite. Strain theory attempts to explain that stress causes crime. Agnew s general strain theory
is considered to be one of the most accurate theories in explaining crime. He argued that the stresses

The Crucible Reputation Essay
In the play, The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, the people of Salem, Massachusetts prove time and time
again that they care more about their reputations than the events that are taking place and how these
events are affecting the people around them. Having a good reputation can be a good thing but
when being concerned about your reputation clouds your judgement, that is when it becomes a
dilemma. In The Crucible, Arthur Miller uses having a good reputation, the character of Parris, and
how reputation and The Crucible tie into modern life to enlighten the reader that even though
having a good reputation is great, it should not cloud one s ability to see the harm they are doing to
others.

In other words, having a good reputation can be good, as can most things, as long as one does not
focus solely on it.
Another thing Miller illustrates, through the character of Parris, is that trying to keep a good
reputation will make one focus mainly on themselves, making them less empathetic and blind to the
struggles of others. Parris is not the only one guilty of this though. In a piece titled Reputation of
The Crucible it says, John Proctor and Parris both were very concerned that their reputation was at
stake in many different instances in this play The Crucible (Reputation of the Crucible). Our
reputations, like the image of the characters John Proctor and Parris, are always at stake and it is
important to be careful not to do things that will interfere with our status. Though not the only
one, Parris is a major offender of letting his image and his reputation cloud his judgement and
even get in the way of his duties as a father. The piece later states, When the play first begins,
Parris fears that Abigail, his niece, is convicted of being a witch because of her intolerable actions,
and the witchcraft that associates with his daughter s coma will cause much chaos and bring down
his power as a Reverend in Salem. Parris feels that power and reputation is the most important thing

Why Attend Christendom
Why Do I Want to Attend Christendom?
Christendom College offers many compelling reasons that have increased my desire to attend this
great school. Some of the things that I love about my high school are found at Christendom, such
as its challenging, Classical curriculum. I simply loved the classes I was able to attend at the
Summer Program and found that I felt at home in those lectures, which were deeply rooted in our
Catholic faith. The lectures helped us examine their relevance in our own lives and encouraged us
to always seek the truth. I observed that this inspired the whole class to consider the situations and
messages in the themes we discuss in class, such as the value of friendship or how history shapes
our identity.
In addition to reflecting on the Classical curriculum, another compelling reason for attending your
school involves the way Christendom will allow me to bring my humble desire to sing and add it
to the immense talents and contributions of many others and participate in the school choir.
Singing in choir has been a passion of mine since second grade. While I do not take choir as an
extracurricular anymore, I am now graded on something I love to do. I ... Show more content on

setting, any personal interactions that occurred, my analysis of my favorite work of art that I

Account for George Eliots Decision to Give Maggie a Tragic...
There are several ways in which George Eliot s decision to give Maggie a tragic ending in The
Mill on the Floss can be substantiated. The examination of Maggie s character in relation to her
family and the society of St Oggs, a bustling commercial town is a major factor to acknowledge.
Consideration should also be given to the suggestion that the creation of Maggie s characterand the
hopeless inevitability of her ultimate demise, was an attempt by Eliot to highlight the social
realities that existed for women in the 19th centuryand possibly a reflection of her own situation.
Also aesthetic features such as realism and tragedylead to the realisation that Eliot could present no

Maggie is imaginative, well read and very intelligent, however she is denied the education

World War I From A Modern Day Perspective
Looking back on World War I from a modern day perspective depicts a time of hardship and
despair, but from the European viewpoint at the time WWI was a time filled with hope. The early
twentieth century was a time that promoted national development in Europe, this desire motivated
many countries to attempt expansion in order to prove their power. This caused tensions to rise
between conflicting nations, which then produced two competing forces to arise. Each alliance
went into World War I
with the expectation of a quick resolution to the problems at hand but soon
realized that the war would prove to be long and detrimental to a majority of Europe. Preceding
World War I, the desire for national greatness in Europe sparked a rise in nationalism and the desire
for expansion, which could only happen through military force. Public relations campaigns
encouraged military buildup. When critics of the arms race suggested a temporary naval Holiday to
stop British and German building, British officials sent out news releases warning that such a
cutback would throw innumerable men on the pavement. (Hunt 796). This shows that Britain was
attempting to convince their population that they must put money and effort into fortifying their
nation because a war was imminent. This persuasion worked not just in Britain but all across
Europe, nations were pouring money into the military due to their rising level of patriotism and
need for national expansion. The Great War started in 1914

Art Reflection
This semester my art practice has primarily focused on utilising carefully constructed language as
opposed to previous stream of consciousness techniques, while further investigating participatory
projects, and assemblage as a new form of installation. The importance of memory and the
handwritten repeatedly warranted further consideration during the course of the semester and
became a fundamental element in each work. Conceptually, my practice has evolved into a critique
of diaristic language by exhibiting private confessions in public spaces and inviting strangers to
participate in the perverse act of reading my most personal thoughts. This notion is challenged by
the introduction of secondary texts and blurs the line between what is real and what is fiction
within the work. These evolving elements within my practice are best observed through works

Av Node Analysis
The heart has distinguished components that allow the pathway of electrical conduction to travel
through the heart in order to effectively pump blood through the body. The electrical impulse
initiates in the Sinoatrial node (SA node), which is located in the posterior wall of the right atrium,
near the superior vena cava. It is also known as being the physiologic pacemaker of the heartand has
an intrinsic firing rate of 60 100 impulses/min. From the SA node, the electrical impulse flows
directly to the Atrioventricular node (AV node) with the guidance of intercalated discs and gap
junctions. The AV node is located in the back section of the interatrial septum near the coronary
sinus and tricuspid valve. Here, there is a delay of .1 seconds to allow the atria to contract and the
ventricles to fill. In addition, this delay regulates the ventricles if there were an abnormal atrial
rhythm. The AV node works as a secondary pacemaker if the SA is irregular, firing at 40 60 pulses
/min. After leaving the AV node, the electrical impulse travels to the bundle of His. The bundle of
His forms the only myocardial connection between the atria and ventricles. Additionally, the bundle
of His divides the bundle branches into left and right and innervates the ventricles through Purkinje
fibers.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Myocardial cells sustain their electrical gradient among their membrane, with the inside being
slightly more negative. The resting potential is regulated by channels and pumps distributed inside
and outside of the cell. As the cell depolarizes, the gate of the calcium channel opens, allowing
calcium to enter the cell. The calcium flowing into the cell simultaneously results in initiating the
action potential. With depolarization, the potassium channels then open, while the calcium
channels close. Repolarization occurs when potassium leaves the cells, and then the whole cycle

Catherine II Research Paper
Catherine II, better known as Catherine the Great, was empress of Russia, and led her country into

Darius The Great Of The Empire
Darius I, also known as Darius the Great, was the third king who reigned from 550 486 BCE
during the Achaemenid Empire. While he lived, Darius held the empire at its peak, which
stretched from the river Nile and parts of Northern Greece to the Indus River Valley. One of the
most major events in Darius s life was his expedition to discipline Athens and Eretria for their
support in the Ionian Revolt. He made his empire larger by vanquishing Thrace and Macedonia,
and occupying Scythia. He also arranged his empire, by splitting it into provinces and placing
governors to rule over it. Darius organized a new financial system, along with making Aramaic
the official language of the empire. He followed religious tolerance that created peace within the
empire. Darius order the carving of the cliff face Behistun Inscription, an autobiography of great
modern linguistic significance. Darius was born as the eldest of five sons to a leading figure of
power in Persia named Hystaspes. Herodotus of Halicarnassus, author of The Histories, wrote
that after a dream that seemed to predict Darius reign, King Cyrus became suspicious of the son
of Hystaspes, who was about twenty at that time and had been left behind in Persia because he

Skills For Visual And Written Analysis
Skills for visual and written analysis have emerged to be a central debate in different art
societies. Writing about art has materialized to become a variable way to practice cultural, social,
economic and political aspects. Precisely, a personal response to an art piece increases the
understanding of the piece of art. As such, the role of individuals such as curators has become
essential in improving the understanding of art. Evidence has proved that visual art has far
reaching impact in reading, writing, geometry and science. Visual art creates an innate mental
ability that envisions forms and observe closely different skills. Precisely, visual art is seen as a
cultural vehicle that helps cultureto share ideas. The incoming report investigates the works of Jean

Ingres images perpetuate an alluring and rather misleading image of the orient. The report will
compare a variety of images to provide a more truthful understanding of the Near East culture.
Background
Orientalism is notable given that it improved the 19th century architecture and decorative art that
had a significant influence on the nature of painting, and graphic arts with photography. The
research will examine Ingres works by drawing an open ended approach to art. Critical emphasis
will prove that the works established a new kind of totality, and a variation that embraced
everything from a crude preliminary sketch to the

Globalization of the Automotive Industry Essays
Just like the other industries such as apparel, electronics, and consumer goods, the automobile
industry has accelerated its foreign direct investment, cross border trade and global production.
The automobile industry has increased outsourcing and bundled value chain activities in major
supplier chains. As a result, more developed countries that serve as suppliers have increased their
involvement in trade and FDI. With these increased supplier capabilities, large national suppliers
have become global suppliers and are now controlling multinational operations. This is because of
their increased capability of providing good and services to various lead firms all over the world.
The automotive industryhas a distinct firm structure. This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Participation of developing economies in globalization of the automotive industry was enhanced by
innovations in telecommunication, technology development, and transportation. These elements
made it possible for the industry to fragment its production processes and creation of smaller
assembling plants that were located in different regions of the world. This segmentation of
production processes created multiple global production networks and expanded the global market
making many developing countries reap the benefits of globalizing the automotive industry (Maxcy
108).
The auto industry adopted new globalization trends that could steer the restructuring of global
manufacturing in order to meet the challenges of global economies. There was the need to improve
on efficiency and maintain a competitive level in the automobile industry. Automotive
manufacturers from Asia, Europe, and the US adopted global trends such as integrating low income
countries into the global division of labor. The aim of the automobile industry in adopting
globalization was to enable it shift from the economies of scale to the economies of scope. The
industry started focusing more on manufacturing capabilities that could enable it meet the
increasing marketing demands. The rapid changes in technology forced automakers

Lady Macbeth Thee Hither Analysis
Although Lady Macbeth knows what Macbeth is thinking, she still believes her influences can
affect him; as a result, she prays Macbeth can come home faster. She shouts out loud: ...Hie thee
hither, That I may pour my spirits in thine ear And chastise with the valor of my tongue All the
impedes thee from the golden round (I.v.21 34)
Hie thee hither means Lady Macbeth wants her husband to come home faster, so she can talk to
him and persuade him to catch the nearest way , which is murder Duncan. Meanwhile, there is a
metaphor that compares the pouring evil spirits to the thoughts that Lady Macbeth will instil into
Macbeth s mind later. Lady Macbeth wants to use her ideal to influence and convince Macbeth to
kill Duncan. Thus,

Kansas State University Research Paper
I was born and raised in a small agriculture community in western Kansas. My entire life I have
been blessed with the good company of the people of Kansas. That is why I chose to receive my
education at Kansas State University, and is also one of the many reasons why I am ardent towards
attending school at the Universityof Kansas. I feel very fortunate to have one of the top occupation
therapy programs in the country within the borders of my home state. I have multiple family
members that have received their doctorate from Kansas University and continue to support the
university due to their overwhelming positive experience.
Although the location of the campus is important to me, it is only a small factor as to why I am
passionate towards attending this specific program. My interest in continuing my education at the
University of Kansas is due to three main attributes. These reasons include; the range of skills
provided, the values and ideals this program obtains, and the prestige and quality of education.
The first attribute that sparks my interest is the range of skills this program provides that allows
occupational therapists to work in a variety of settings. Due to my interest in residing in rural
Kansas, obtaining these skills is of vital importance to me. Healthcare is becoming extremely scarce

A qualitative study to show how other affect individual development, using thematic analysis.
ABSTRACT This study will examine the ways that adults construct their own attachment
experiences and relationships along and how others influence these attachments and their
development. The chosen method for data collection was interviews as they provide full and
detailed data for thematic analysis. Other researchers studying within the social constructionist
perspective with a main focus on attachment found that attachment relationships are a central part
of our lives, which can stem from childhood experiences through to later adult life. There is also
some evidence to suggest environment influences an individual. Thematic analysis... Show more

Business Structure Of A Corporation
You have five basic choices when setting up business entities: sole proprietorships, partnerships,
limited liability companies, S corporations and C corporations. Most small businesses benefit by
choosing the LLC structure because it protects you from personal liability and your profits pass
through for simple taxation treatment, instead of being double taxed like regular C corporations.
Organizing a corporation limits your liability to your investment in the business, but LLCs don t
require seating a board of directors, holding shareholder meetings and other time consuming and
expensive administrative formalities. Another great benefit is that you can divide profits any way
you want, entice employees by offering them a share of your profits and assign shares without
requiring the recipients to pay market value. You can choose to tax any LLC s profits as a
corporate entity or pass through company, which means that profits are passed through to the
shareholders and taxed as regular income.
Using LLCs, S Corporations and Holding Companies
The actual business structure of these arrangements usually involves establishing a holding entity
that owns assets and an operating entity that uses the assets. Of course, setting up this arrangement
should be done in such a way that business assets are protected from personal creditors and
personal assets can t be targeted by the business, but this takes careful planning. The operating
entity conducts business and bears any risks of

Bailey, a trespasser attacked the Plaintiff in the Apartment on two occasions. The first attack
occurred on February 6, 2016 when Bailey came to return the Plaintiff s belongings. The Plaintiff
authorized him to come to the Apartment only to return her belongings. But, he came to the
Apartment only to persuade her to get back into relationship with him. Therefore, his presence in
the Apartment was beyond the scope of the Plaintiff s consent, and hence, he was a trespasser.
When the Plaintiff resisted, Bailey physically and verbally abused her. Bailey threw her against
the wall, slapped her, kicked her, punched holes in the living room walls, tore a hallway door off,
and broke a bedroom window. Hearing the Plaintiff s screaming, one of the neighbors called the
police and another neighbor called Dan Houston, who never responded to the incident. The
altercation stopped when the police arrived after fifteen minutes. But, Bailey s vicious attack
caused severe physical injuries to the Plaintiff including three broken ribs, and numerous cuts and
bruises. She also suffered economic damages because the Defendant required her to fix the
damages Bailey caused to the basic facilities (door, window, and walls) spending $2,500.
The second attack occurred on March 29, 2016. Around 2 AM, when Bailey called the Plaintiff

Lego s Partnership With Oil Interests And The Destruction...
On July 8th, 2014, Greenpeace released a video criticizing LEGO s partnership with oil giant
Shell. The video, which has become a rallying point for environmental groups, sought to force
LEGO to end its partnership with Shell due to Shell s plans to implement offshore drilling in the
Arctic. Fearing that the drilling would lead to a massive oil spill which could destroy the Arctic
ecosystem, Greenpeace used the video to garner worldwide attention to the issue. Painting the
relationship between LEGOand Shell as promoting oil interests and the destruction of the Artic gave
Greenpeace an environmental issue that the rest of the world could identify with. Keeping the
Arctic and its ecosystem intact is in the interests of people globally, which made the video
advertisement even more potent.
Factual Assertions
Evaluating Greenpeace s ad for factual claims proves to be a tricky affair. Since the medium used
is LEGOs, their ability to portray real life situations is a little distorted. While this does not take
away from the effectiveness of the ad, it makes it harder to determine what is actually factual.
The most obvious factual claim in the ad would be the partnership that has existed between
Shell and LEGO. This relationship has been in place through a series of co branding deals since
the 1960s. LEGO and Shell agreed to create a set of toys that carries the Shell logo and would be
sold at gasoline stations worldwide. The intended effect was to put LEGOs in the hands of more

Famine, Affluence, And Morality By Peter Singer
In his essay Famine, Affluence, and Morality moral philosopher Peter Singer (2013) argues that
affluent individuals morally ought to provide an assistance to absolutely poor people up to the
point when further giving requires them to sacrifice anything of comparable moral significance.
He relies on the example with drowning child when proving that we should accept his strong
principle which is if it is in our power to prevent something bad from happening without thereby
sacrificing anything of comparable moral importance, we ought, morally, to do it (Singer 2013,
647). There are a lot of objections attempting to show that this example is not a good analogy to
the international aid case. If any of them manage to do so, then the Singer s... Show more content on

Singer is focused on ethics and therefore his argumentation is not vulnerable to psychological or
sociological criticism discussed above. However, it can still be an important issue for practical
ethicist to consider if people will actually stick to his principle after they accept that it is morally
right. Singer must have understood that many people will probably find the his strong principle
too demanding or counter intuitive and will not follow it. To solve this problem he has worked
out the moderate version of the principle which is if it is in our power to prevent something very
bad from happening, without thereby sacrificing anything morally significant, we ought, morally,
to do it (Singer 2013, 647). This principle is more plausible for human nature as it leaves some
space for individual s personal interests. It is less ambitious and does not promote absolute equality
of welfare and resources. Singer himself agreed that in order to do the maximum to reduce absolute
poverty, we should advocate a standard lower (Singer 1993, 245). However, I think that the weak
principle Singer proposes is a bit shaky because anything morally significant is determined by
subjective judgment and can indeed be morally incorrect sometimes. For instance, in the case of
drowning child I am no

Justice For All Act Of 2004
Throughout every state and county across the United States there are various means for offering
assistance to victims of crime. Each municipality has its own victim advocacy program. For
smaller areas such as rural counties they use the next organizational level up as their victim
advocates. For the purpose of this paper I sat down with Ms. Mari Dennis of the Colorado Springs
PoliceDepartment (CSPD). Ms. Dennis is employed as the VictimAdvocacy Unit Coordinator and is
embedded within the Investigations division of the department. CSPD employs four staff victim
advocates and around 35 volunteer advocates.

Colorado Victims Rights Act (CVRA) At the state level, Colorado has written and enacted its own
Victims Rights Act ahead of federal mandates previously discussed. In the early 1990 s Colorado
passed an amendment to the state constitution to provide crime victims with certain rights. The
driving force behind the amendment was to ensure the victim in a crime has their rights pursued
and enforced in the same manner as those of criminal defendants. It is necessary to understand
when a crime occurs; victims lives and those of their families are forever changed through no fault
of their own.
Focus
While it is never fun to be the victim of a crime, there are only certain offenses covered under the
CVRA. Back in 2008 I was a victim when my truck was broken into and a couple of things were
stolen. That type of crime would not have been covered under a state crime victim s rights act.
The types of crimes covered are those of a personal nature. Crimes like murder, assault and bias
motivated crimes affect individuals on a much deeper level than breaking into a vehicle. For
some, life will never be the same after having been victimized. This is where VA s step in to offer
whatever help they can be.
Responsibilities
Law enforcement has a duty to victims the same way the police have a responsibility to work a
case from start to finish. Each LE organization has

The Man He Killed Poem Analysis
Poetry is used to describe more than it is used to define. Poetry expresses feeling and emotions
more than just a detailed story. Poetry can be used to go deeper into someone s personal thoughts
and emotions. In Shall I compare thee to a summer s day? by William Shakespeare, The
Whipping by Robert Hayden, and The Man He Killed by Thomas Hardy are great examples of
how inner emotions can be revealed through poetry. The three selections also give examples of
how they follow good poetry. In Shall I compare thee to a summer s day? , Shakespeare is utterly
honest about the person he is referring to. By comparing someone to a summer s day, he includes
the dislikes of a summer s day just as much as he compares the likes. I liked how he was honest
about the comparison to a summer s day. When most people think of a summer s day, they think
about the beautiful weather every day. What most people don t think about is about the scorching
hot temperatures that makes it unbearable to even step outside. This poem is qualifies as a GOOD
poem because it provides purpose. The purpose it to distinguish the quality of a person s outlook

The Whipping is one of those unhappy poems. This poems exalts many emotions and detail in
such an attractive manner. Being that I was well disciplined growing up, I can relate to this
poem. The details used to describe the scene are great examples of a good poem. Because
Hayden used visual image to describe the scene, it is easier to understand. The visual image of
this poem puts the readers in the shoes of the mother, the boy, and the person witnessing the
whipping. Hayden used words such as pursues and corners to explain the vigorousness of the
whipping. Because he used phrases to describe the emotion of each character, it pulled me closer
to the poem. The overall visual image used in this poem shows great emotion and visual
background needed to be a great

The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time Analysis As Christopher Boone says, entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem, (page 90) it is needless to say that the acknowledgment of existing psychological issues as well as understanding them are absolutely necessary when comprehending our world. In The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time, Mark Haddon extends the scope of such psychological disorders through a diary narrative, as Christopher unravels the murder of Mrs. Shears black poodle and the layers of internal thoughts as to why he despises the color yellow or why prime numbers ease his disparities. Christopher would crouch and groan with hands over his ears to counteract noise whenever he is distraught however, this behavior may be inappropriate to those who observe this occurrence. With the inability to supply adequate communication, he finds himself arrested for assaulting a police officer unable to convey his discomforts of being touched. As women keep gaining rights, so are Chopin s works of literature acquiring literary attention. Chopin realized that people valued morality, especially when it came to things such as adultery and the marital discord caused by such, so she decided to use those two items to try and deliver a message concerning an overarching patriarchy that set into motion internal strife for stereotypically frail individuals and women alike who had been cornered by the strangling ideology. Edna also exemplifies the impossibility as it pertains to a woman achieving such a dastardly goal at the time. Edna begins on her journey towards feminine selfhood early in the novel and while doing so evokes sympathy and understanding. For Edna, It s far easier to see her either as an innocent victim crushed by a merciless, absolute patriarchy, or as having the last laugh by ducking out of life s impassable and unfair obstacles (Ramos, Unbearable realism: freedom, ethics and identity in The Awakening. ). However, Chopin writes thoughtfully and uses Edna s journey for even more than what Ramos states above and describes it as, an unrestricted, undefined and, ultimately, impossible state ironically [depriving] her life of meaning (and finally of life itself) (Ramos, Unbearable realism: freedom, ethics and identity in The Awakening. ). The demand for organic food has even increased as more people associate it with being healthy and environmentally friendly. However, how organic is organic food? Is organic foodworth the extra cost? Does organic food have that much more nutrients than conventional food? These are all questions that ponder many people s brains. Organic food receives mixed reviews. Some perceive it to be much more beneficial than conventional foods while others do not. However, organic food is worth the recognition it receives as it is high quality. The market for organic food is worth the extra dollars because it is very beneficial for human health, the environment, and animal production. A common controversy is if organic food is truly richer in nutrients. Some consumers argue that there is not a large enough difference between the nutrient levels that makes organic food worth the buy. Although this may be true in some cases, the right amount of nutrients is necessary for overall body health. In a recent study conducted by Sapienza University of Rome, the vitamin C, vitamin E, and carotenoids were higher in organic food than conventional (BrantsГ¦ter, 2017). Theme Of Glory And Grief In The Iliad A flip of a coin In the midst of the bloodshed caused by discord between two mighty empires, the characters of Homer s Iliad are exposed to the multifaceted essence of warfare and thus experience both the feelings of glory as well as grief. In this way, we can compare the nature of war to that of a coin. When flipped to kleos, fame achieved through exploits in battle, the characters experience an increase in social status and earn admiration from their people. When flipped to the other side, the characters grieve for the death of their loved ones caused by the violence of war. As the bard who recites an intricate and heart wrenching story concerning love, loss, and warfare, Homer shapes his narration around the poignant sentiments instigated by the duality of war which results from the rabid pursuit of glory. A central theme is the struggle between everlasting kleos and a long life without glory is what encapsulates the dual nature of warfare, which creates heroes but also brings loss to families and devastation to societies. (Giles 55). By illustrating both of the stories that result from a single event, Homer balances the dualistic aspects of glory and grief to communicate that glory and grief are an inevitable result of fundamentally flawed human nature. People were afraid because they believed their freedom and security was being threatened by communist spies. They were afraid that communism would take over the world and wipe out democracy. They were afraid that a nuclear attack would occur and render them and the American economy helpless. In the midst of all their fear, President Dwight D. During the Cold War, people all over the world were in a constant state of fear: ...the world is suffering from a multiplicity of fears. Many people refuse to believe their lives are being interfered with by spiritual forces, but it is not something that should be ignored. Lewis saw the importance in recognizing spiritual warfare in order to learn how to fight it, and that is one of his inspirations for writing this book. Although we aren t sure how demons attempt to lead us away from God, Lewis gives a detailed account on what he believes is a way they could go about it. The Screwtape Lettersis a book made up of letters from a demon, Screwtape, addressed to his nephew, Wormwood. Wormwood is assigned his first patient and it is his skilled Uncle Screwtape s job to help him through the process. A patient is the demon s human that they are assigned to keep away from God and to constantly face with temptation. Screwtape receives reports from Wormwood each week and then responds with advice and techniques. Screwtape highlights many different ways to keep us from following God, especially with limiting our understanding of real to mean only the material (23). The best way to avoid this problem is to avoid doing any stem and leaf plots (do histograms instead). (Doc 4) The intellectual and party member support helped the workers movement gain serious momentum. A major factor in the emergence of the workers opposition movement also was the support of the Catholic Church and the Pope specifically. In September of 1976, the bishops of the Catholic Church in Poland called for the government and party to fully respect civil rights and conduct a real dialogue with society while also demanding that they stop all repression of workers involved in the protests of June 1976. (Doc 5) The fierce and somewhat scolding tone in which the demands are made show the Catholic Church s unwavering support for the Polish workers opposition. It is not surprising, however, that a group of Catholic bishops would demand better treatment for the Polish workers because, as members of the church, they would naturally be in favour of social justice. The value of having the Catholic Church support the movement manifests itself in the fact that the Polish communist party begins to require all teachers to tell students that the pope is an enemy and dangerous man who only wishes to charm the crowd. (Doc 7) This response to the pope s support demonstrates that the party itself realised that the church could have tremendous impact on the turnout of the opposition. It is important to the criminal justice system to determine how much crime actually affects the health of an offender. Assuming that committing crimes causes stress to the individual, stress can show negative side effects on the human body that can be physical or mental. By identifying any health problems created by committing crimes, one could potentially deter potential criminals. In the criminal justicesystem in the United States, there currently is not much deterrence for criminals in regards to punishment. There is the potential to use the risk of them affecting their health as a deterrent. It is also important to look at how different crimes affect the physical health of an offender. For instance, a small crimesuch as shoplifting may not cause as much stress as robbery. Looking into the potential for higher stress levels in certain crimes could lead to offenders avoiding those crimes. If criminals stop committing the higher stress crimes, it can help law enforcement and citizens focus on stopping the lesser crimes. World War I From A Modern Day Perspective Looking back on World War I from a modern day perspective depicts a time of hardship and despair, but from the European viewpoint at the time WWI was a time filled with hope. The early twentieth century was a time that promoted national development in Europe, this desire motivated many countries to attempt expansion in order to prove their power. This caused tensions to rise between conflicting nations, which then produced two competing forces to arise. Each alliance went into World War I with the expectation of a quick resolution to the problems at hand but soon realized that the war would prove to be long and detrimental to a majority of Europe. Preceding World War I, the desire for national greatness in Europe sparked a rise in nationalism and the desire for expansion, which could only happen through military force. Public relations campaigns encouraged military buildup. When critics of the arms race suggested a temporary naval Holiday to stop British and German building, British officials sent out news releases warning that such a cutback would throw innumerable men on the pavement. Other times those who pursue their happiness, end up compromising their happiness in the process. The image New York, ca. 1962 can be shown to prove what an... • 36. Art Reflection This semester my art practice has primarily focused on utilising carefully constructed language as opposed to previous stream of consciousness techniques, while further investigating participatory projects, and assemblage as a new form of installation. The importance of memory and the handwritten repeatedly warranted further consideration during the course of the semester and became a fundamental element in each work. Conceptually, my practice has evolved into a critique of diaristic language by exhibiting private confessions in public spaces and inviting strangers to participate in the perverse act of reading my most personal thoughts. This notion is challenged by the introduction of secondary texts and blurs the line between what is real and what is fiction within the work. These evolving elements within my practice are best observed through works warm under orange (standstill), the pitiful militia, my mother and raymond carver, and the library respectively. Photographic series warm under orange (standstill) is the third transformation of terrible confessional and pathetic conversation: warm under orange, the second instalment of personal texts that examine emotions such as joy, anger, exposure and love. The four photographs depict orange fabric with embroidered text scrunched and folded from a variety of angles. The abstracted view of the material conceals the text embroidered, however, words such as listen and lovely are legible in a few of the prints. By ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Av Node Analysis The heart has distinguished components that allow the pathway of electrical conduction to travel through the heart in order to effectively pump blood through the body. The electrical impulse initiates in the Sinoatrial node (SA node), which is located in the posterior wall of the right atrium, near the superior vena cava. It is also known as being the physiologic pacemaker of the heartand has an intrinsic firing rate of 60 100 impulses/min. From the SA node, the electrical impulse flows directly to the Atrioventricular node (AV node) with the guidance of intercalated discs and gap junctions. The AV node is located in the back section of the interatrial septum near the coronary sinus and tricuspid valve. Here, there is a delay of .1 seconds to allow the atria to contract and the ventricles to fill. In addition, this delay regulates the ventricles if there were an abnormal atrial rhythm. The AV node works as a secondary pacemaker if the SA is irregular, firing at 40 60 pulses /min. After leaving the AV node, the electrical impulse travels to the bundle of His. The bundle of His forms the only myocardial connection between the atria and ventricles. Additionally, the bundle of His divides the bundle branches into left and right and innervates the ventricles through Purkinje fibers.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Comparing Dr. Seuss Short Story Green Eggs And Ham When thinking about the classic story Green Eggs and Ham by the brilliant Dr. Seuss, one can conclude that with persistence you can convince someone to try something they normally wouldn t try. • 46. Business Structure Of A Corporation You have five basic choices when setting up business entities: sole proprietorships, partnerships, limited liability companies, S corporations and C corporations. Most small businesses benefit by choosing the LLC structure because it protects you from personal liability and your profits pass through for simple taxation treatment, instead of being double taxed like regular C corporations. Organizing a corporation limits your liability to your investment in the business, but LLCs don t require seating a board of directors, holding shareholder meetings and other time consuming and expensive administrative formalities. Another great benefit is that you can divide profits any way you want, entice employees by offering them a share of your profits and assign shares without requiring the recipients to pay market value. You can choose to tax any LLC s profits as a corporate entity or pass through company, which means that profits are passed through to the shareholders and taxed as regular income. Using LLCs, S Corporations and Holding Companies The actual business structure of these arrangements usually involves establishing a holding entity that owns assets and an operating entity that uses the assets. Of course, setting up this arrangement should be done in such a way that business assets are protected from personal creditors and personal assets can t be targeted by the business, but this takes careful planning. The video, which has become a rallying point for environmental groups, sought to force LEGO to end its partnership with Shell due to Shell s plans to implement offshore drilling in the Arctic. Fearing that the drilling would lead to a massive oil spill which could destroy the Arctic ecosystem, Greenpeace used the video to garner worldwide attention to the issue. Painting the relationship between LEGOand Shell as promoting oil interests and the destruction of the Artic gave Greenpeace an environmental issue that the rest of the world could identify with. Keeping the Arctic and its ecosystem intact is in the interests of people globally, which made the video advertisement even more potent. Factual Assertions Evaluating Greenpeace s ad for factual claims proves to be a tricky affair. Since the medium used is LEGOs, their ability to portray real life situations is a little distorted. While this does not take away from the effectiveness of the ad, it makes it harder to determine what is actually factual. The most obvious factual claim in the ad would be the partnership that has existed between Shell and LEGO. This relationship has been in place through a series of co branding deals since the 1960s. Famine, Affluence, And Morality By Peter Singer In his essay Famine, Affluence, and Morality moral philosopher Peter Singer (2013) argues that affluent individuals morally ought to provide an assistance to absolutely poor people up to the point when further giving requires them to sacrifice anything of comparable moral significance. He relies on the example with drowning child when proving that we should accept his strong principle which is if it is in our power to prevent something bad from happening without thereby sacrificing anything of comparable moral importance, we ought, morally, to do it (Singer 2013, 647). However, it can still be an important issue for practical ethicist to consider if people will actually stick to his principle after they accept that it is morally right. Singer must have understood that many people will probably find the his strong principle too demanding or counter intuitive and will not follow it. To solve this problem he has worked out the moderate version of the principle which is if it is in our power to prevent something very bad from happening, without thereby sacrificing anything morally significant, we ought, morally, to do it (Singer 2013, 647). This principle is more plausible for human nature as it leaves some space for individual s personal interests. It is less ambitious and does not promote absolute equality of welfare and resources. Singer himself agreed that in order to do the maximum to reduce absolute poverty, we should advocate a standard lower (Singer 1993, 245). However, I think that the weak principle Singer proposes is a bit shaky because anything morally significant is determined by subjective judgment and can indeed be morally incorrect sometimes. Colorado Victims Rights Act (CVRA) At the state level, Colorado has written and enacted its own Victims Rights Act ahead of federal mandates previously discussed. In the early 1990 s Colorado passed an amendment to the state constitution to provide crime victims with certain rights. The driving force behind the amendment was to ensure the victim in a crime has their rights pursued and enforced in the same manner as those of criminal defendants. It is necessary to understand when a crime occurs; victims lives and those of their families are forever changed through no fault of their own. Focus While it is never fun to be the victim of a crime, there are only certain offenses covered under the CVRA.
