History And Effect Of The Gold Rush
Research Paper: The history and effect of The Gold Rush Gold Rush is one of the significant event in
the history. In this project, I will introduce what is the major effects of the Gold Rush in the California.
And how did that change the people, economic, political and environmental effects. The Gold Rush is
a rapid movement of people to a newly discovered Goldfield. Gold rush was arguably one of the most
significant events to build American history during the first half of the 19th century. Thousands of
gold miners traveled by the sea and over the land of San Francisco and the surrounding area. In
January 1848, James Wilson Marshall discovered gold along the American River. By the time, the

Most of these were white men who came from New England. However, Native Americans, free
blacks, and enslaved African Americans also worked the mines. Thousands of experienced miners
came from Sonora in Mexico. Other foreign miners came from Europe, South America, Australia, and
China. Most of the Chinese miners were peasant farmers who fled from a region that had suffered
several crop failures. By the end of 1851, one of every 10 immigrants was the Chinese who used to
backbreaking labor in their homeland, the Chinese proved to be patient miners. They would take over
sites that American miners had abandoned because the easy gold was gone. Tough steady, hard work,
the Chinese made these played out sites yield profits. American miners resented the success of the
Chinese and were suspicious of their different foods, dress, and customs. As the numbers of Chinese
miners grew, American anger toward them also increased. A mixture of greed, anger caused some
miners to cheat others. One the easy to find gold was gone, American miners began to force Native
Americans and foreigners such as Mexicans and Chinese out of the gold fields to reduce competition.
This practice increased after California became a state in 1850. Also the consequences of the gold
miners made government make new legislation. One of the first acts of the California state legislature
was to pass the foreign miners Tax, which imposed a tax of 20 bucks in a month on miners from other
countries. That was

Roman Sculpture
Roman sculpture and painting differed mostly for the fact that the status were used to record major
events and also as realistic portrait. As per the paintings, they were used much as decor and to cover
walls than anything else.
The picture depicts a heroic sculpture of Augustus, a military leader who was the first Emperor of the
Roman Empire, controlling Imperial Rome from 27 BC until his death in AD 14 (Hays, 2008). Roman
sculptures were focused in representing the real form of those being portrayed. However, in the case
of rulers, they attempted to make it strong god like images. Unlike the Greek, which usually tried to

(Shelby, 2016). Roman paintings were used mostly as wall decoration. They were painted directly on
the walls of their rooms, and also on portable panels (Gunther, n.d.). The main idea was to bring their
windowless interior dark rooms to life, totally changing aspects of these living spaces. A variety of
painting art forms is seeing throughout Roman ancient history. Nevertheless, Frescoes was the most
popular approach seeing in the interior design of ancient Roman buildings. Fresco painting, method of
painting water based pigments on freshly applied plaster, usually on wall surfaces. The colours, which
are made by grinding dry powder pigments in pure water, dry and set with the plaster to become a
permanent part of the wall (Britannica, 2014). These fresco paintings represented images from the
Greek scenery, Roman mythology. Although landscapes were mostly used to give the impression of a
window view. As commonly seen within the Romans, such art paintings were equally a privilege of
the wealthy ones. There are four styles seen throughout the history of Roman paintings:
First Style originated in the early 2d century BC. It is an imitation of marble veneering, in which the
painted decoration resembles slabs of colored marble
Second Style began in the early 1st century B, opening up the wall by providing an illusion of
windows and porticos which looked outward onto

United Arab Emirates (UAE), they re located dangerously close to one of the most war ridden places

arduous for insurgency to initiate and flourish because of how established the district is. There are also
rural regions that persist in UAE but they are not poverty stricken villages. The government has

With all this exponential development comes the funds required to subsidize it. UAE possesses

SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF EQUILIBRIUM CONSTANT FOR A
REACTION
ABSTRACT
UV VIS spectrophotometry is one of the most widely used methods for determining and identifying
many inorganic species. During this experiment, this spectrophotometry was used to determine the
equilibrium constant, Keq, of the Fe3+(aq)+SCN (aq)↔ FeSCN2+(aq) reaction. By determining the
amount of light absorbed, the concentration of the colored FeSCN2+ solution was also quantitatively
determined. From that data, the concentrations of the reagents at equilibrium may also be determined.
This experiment should thus provide a Keq value without computing for the concentration of each of
the species in the reaction. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beer s Law states that absorbance is directly proportional to the concentration c of the absorbing
species, and to the path length b of the absorbing medium by a proportionality constant called the
absorptivity a. In our experiment, we expressed the concentration of the absorbing species in terms of
mol/L and the path length in centimetres. Thus, the proportionality constant becomes the molar
absorptivity ε. We set the wavelength of the spectrophotometer to 447 nm so we could achieve
maximum sensitivity. At this point, the change in absorbance per unit of concentration is greatest and
there is greater adherence to Beer s Law.

Italian Food In The 1970s
America has seen numerous waves of immigrants which brought their own culture and cuisine. With
time various cuisines became very popular nationwide and not just within the original consuming
communities. One of the most popular ethical foods in the United States is Italian food. It gained its
popularity long time ago and since lots of Italian dishes became leaders in restaurants. Due to growing
interest of general public to Italian food numerous food restaurant networks have emerged in the
United States. Moreover, only one third of so called Italian food is imported from Italy. This suggests
that many products are fake and many people take advantage of popularity of Italian food. Sometimes
manufacturers name their products Italian but they have nothing in common with authentic Italian
food.

the use of authenticity of recipes, techniques for cooking and other things. In late 1970 s, this aspect

From Martin Luther King to Nelson Mandela and many more in between, people have tried to
encourage the condemnation of prejudice. Harper Lee and Mildred D. Taylor have tried to do this
using the medium of the novel. Many people would feel that the books could be set in the 19th century
due to the significance of the prejudice and racism involved. They are actually set in the 1930s and,
whilst these childhood accounts were written in the second half of the 20th century, the prejudice still
existed at the time of writing and still occurs in inexcusable amounts today. Throughout both books,
there are many instances where characters endure or cause suffering due to their unreasonable

This is exactly what happened to Cassie, and is completely unjustifiable. The way the author enables
you to feel empathy for Cassie is what condemns prejudice.
More of this open prejudice appears in Mr. Barnett s shop, as he plainly ignores the black children in
favour of a white woman, who had a lot more shopping than the black children:
Mr Barnett walked to another counter and began filling the order, but before he finished a white
woman called, Mr. Barnett, you waiting on anybody just now? Mr. Barnett turned around, Just them,
he said, indicating to us with a wave of his hand. What can I do for you, Miz Emmaline? The woman

After Mr. Barnett had displayed this blatant show of prejudice, Cassie went on to ask him why he

acting outrageously just by talking back to him, even though she spoke very politely. This is partly
because he has no respect for black people in general but also because he just cannot believe that a
young black girl would have the moral courage to act differently to the norm. Even though she acts in
a manner that we could easily accept by today s standards, Mr. Barnett thinks that she is conceited and
a menace. This condemns prejudice because the reader cannot find any genuine reason that would

Structural Significance Of The Fall In John Milton s...
Final Milton Paper on the Structural Significance of the Fall
The introduction should brief characterize PL... and set up argument elegantly.
Though Milton details Adam and Eve s falls separately, the fall in Paradise Lost is not two separate
falls, but one because Adam and Eve are not independent of each other. Rather Milton has them fall
physically apart to emphasize how connected they are, and in doing so, through the fall, he solidifies
Eve as a symbol of liberty and Adam as a symbol of reason, thus making significant comments on the
relationship between and the significance of the relationship between reason and liberty. In totality,
through the structural significance of the fall, Milton is not only able to justify the ways of God to
man, as stated in his thesis for Paradise Lost, but is able to justify the ways of man, legitimizing some
of his major assertions in his prose works such as Second Defense of the English People,
Areopagitica, and The Tenure of Kings and Magistrates.
Analyszing their individual falls revelas that Milton uses the falls to solidfy Eve as a symbol of liberty
and Adam as a symbol of reason. Thoughout the epic, Adam is portrayed as a symbol of reason
through his rational disposition. In Areopagitica, John Milton s address to the English Parliament of

The Mending Wall by Robert Frost Essay
The Mending Wall by Robert Frost
Robert Frost was not just a writer. Frost was, more importantly, an American writer whose works
epitomized the Modernist literary movement, and in turn represented the mood and minds of a nation.
Frost remains emblematic of a specific time in our country. Through the words of the poet, readers of
his day could see a real time reflection of themselves visible in
Frost s verses were the hopes and apprehensions that marked the first half of the twentieth century.
However, in his ability to express this unlikely mixture of cynicism and sentiment,
Frost did more than capture the attention of his contemporaries he captured the times for all times. A
modern reader of Frost is a reader of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet, under scrutiny these lines of seeming simplicity reveal a wealth of profundity. The something
there is that doesn t love a wall destroys the structure with frozen ground swell could be construed as
Nature defying the works human hands.
However, it probable that which does not love a wall is not simple nature, but Human Nature.
The frozen ground swell is the cold heart that permeates the building of such a wall, and the eventual
warming of the heart spills the upper boulders in the sun . For Frost, a man living in a time when the
industrial revolution and all the advances of the new century, the twentieth century, were making our
fenced in walls archaic structures in an emerging homogeneoous society. In fact, the gaps in the wall
were big enough that ...two could pass abreast. This is an important idea. The holes in the wall were
not for one, but for two. A fence has two sides, two identities, two purposes. In the gaping holes of the
wall, both that which is restricted and that which restricts, are allowed simultaneous freedom of
movement. This is an exemplary idea for a time when many restraints in America, socially and
physically, were being defied. Further in the poem, the speaker tells of the mending of the wall with,
And on a day we meet to walk the line/And set the wall between us once again/We keep the wall
between us as we go/To

Hospital Train Research Paper
An astute railroad surgeon, witnessing the jostling of sick and wounded civil wars soldiers during
evacuations by horse drawn wagons, was inspired to convert freight cars into unique hospitals in train
cars.
It was during World Wars I II when hospital cars were custom built as military medical transport. Thus
began a large scale use of hospital trains in wartime. Medical air transport was in its infancy. But after
the Korean War, which was the last time hospital cars were used by the military, air transport took the
lead.
Flash forward to the 21st century. Medical care and evacuation after natural or man made disasters
haven t been as effective as they could be because of the lack of medical personnel, equipment and

David Kelly has over 20 years of experience responding to natural disasters and civil disturbances as
an officer in the National Guard and an officer of an operating non profit railroad. Mr. Kelly develops
this concept in great detail at the non profit website, emergencyrailconcepts.org.
An outstanding modern success story has to do with this year s 25th anniversary of The Lifeline
Express, also known as the Magic Train of India. Named the world s first hospital on rails, it serves
the indigent in rural villages. This hospital train is the flagship of Impact India Foundation and the
Indian Railways, and has medically served hundreds of thousands of adults and children, restoring
sight, mobility, hearing, and correction of clefts, all free of cost. Tens of thousands of surgeons have
donated their expertise to make this ongoing dream possible.
This state of the art hospital train has air conditioning, one surgical operation theatre with three
operating tables, a sterilizing room, patient wards, on board power generators, a pantry car, a
storeroom for medical provisions, and lodging for the medical staff. A YouTube video best explains

Summary Of Casey At The Bat
In the poem Casey At the Bat and the biblical story of David and Goliath , a comparison shows many
sides of the story. The first similarity is that they both were confident in their ability to succeed. When
David said, Sir, I have killed lions and bears that way, and I can kill this worthless Philistine. He
shouldn t have made fun of the army of the living God! and when Casey said, That ain t my style, .
Casey was so confident in his ability to succeed that he lost a necessary thing, and David showed his
confidence from his past success. Another similarity between the two of them is that they both were
under enormous amount of pressure. When Goliath said, If he can kill me, our people will be your
slaves. But if I kill him, your people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

only a boy, and he s been a soldier all his life tells this. In Casey at the bat, the people were so
confident in him that they were bubbling, cheering and hooting with joy. Even the writer of the poem
called him mighty. In the story of David and Goliath, the king of his nation thought he could never do
it. The opinion of a king is always backed by the people. The last main difference is that David was
much more humble. The quote That ain t my style, said Casey. Strike one, the umpire said. tells this.
He is so confident that he can do it that he wastes two of his three chances to succeed because he is
better than the pitch . The story of David and Goliath said, He put a rock in his sling and swung the

Steps Involved In Muscle Contraction
There are many steps involved in muscle contraction. The first being where the action potential starts
in the brain and travels to the muscle where it meets at the neuromuscular junction. This is where a
chemical synapse is formed. The motor neuron from the brain connects with the muscle fiber.
Acetylcholine is a chemical neurotransmitter used at the neuromuscular junction that the motor
neurons of the nervous system release in order to activate muscles causing contraction. There are
diseases that wreak havoc on the connection at the neuromuscular junction; tetanus, botulism, and
myasthenia gravis.

known to man. Tetanus is caused ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While droopy eyelids and difficulty swallowing are also common symptoms in diseases caused by the
toxins mentioned above. And while the neuromuscular junction and acetylcholen are also affected in
this disease as with tetanus and botulism, there is a difference in they effect they have. With
myasthenia gravis the receptors that receive the neurotransmitter acetylcholine at the neuromuscular
junction are blocked or destroyed by the body s own immune system. This, rather than causing
constriction of muscles when there is excessive neurotransmitter created, there is actually weakness.

not considered genetic. It is worsened by stress, sickness (especially viral respiratory illness),
pregnancy, hypo/hyperthyroidism. (Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America 2015) This disease is
often over looked as weakness is a common ailment from the flu, to syndromes, to simply being
overworked or poor sleep. The symptoms can also come and go and may fluctuate in severity. People
already tend to be poor historians when it comes to their own health and this simply makes that even

Essay Anterior Cruciate Ligament
Anterior Cruciate Ligament
With an ever increasing number of people becoming involved with athletic activities, there is an
increasing number of injuries occurring which can be devastating for the individual. Most of the
injuries that affect athletes occur in one of four structures in the human body: bones, muscles, tendons,
or ligaments. Because ligaments attach bone to bone and play a major part in providing stability for
joints, the major stabilizing ligament in the knee, the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), assists in
performing everyday actions of the human body including sitting, standing, walking, running,
dancing, and participating in other sports. The injury that specifically affects this ligament is very
serious and always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This short and round ligament, like all other ligaments, prevents slippage within the joint and allows
the joint to properly pivot when performing an action (Duff 300). Without this particular ligament, the
knees would be fragile and more susceptible to injury. Therefore, it would be impossible to do the
simplest movements that are done by humans everyday, like walking and even sitting. This is one
reason why many athletes should be aware of the physical indications that arise if they have torn their
ACL while participating in athletic activities.
In many cases, the symptoms that the patient feels after the trauma has occurred can help the doctor
make his or her diagnosis. Many times a doctor will ask the patient to recall what happened after the
injury was sustained. Usually with an ACL injury, the patient will describe a so called pop or snap that
he or she heard during the impact. Pain, which is not terribly excruciating, will immediately follow,
and if the individual tries to stand, he or she will be faced with an overwhelming feeling of instability,
the leg will buckle under, and the individual will ultimately fall down onto the ground. Although the
patient is experiencing pain, he or she cannot point out exactly where the injury has occurred. Garrick
states, some people say that their knee shifts in position which it actually does (118). Other symptoms
that may arise are stiffness and swelling which may continue for a long

Argumentative Essay On Creation Vs. Evolution In Public...
Creation vs. Evolution Since the Scopes Trials came to a close, the Supreme Court enforced the
teaching no of evolution in all public schools across the US in 1987. The interesting part was that most
people believe that the Supreme Court had banned the teachings of creationism, but the decision stated
that creation is no more than how life began ( Teaching Creation, 2010). The case that made the
decision, Edwards vs. Aguillard, actually allow public schools to teach either creation or evolution, as
long as the teacher does not mention God in the picture ( Teaching Creation, 2010). Therefore, the
teaching of creation is not illegal. Up to a certain point where God is mentioned. This fact can depict
one s belief in God and how humans came ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is no known proof about how evolution is true as of the general public of the world know today.
Frederick Edwords states that creationist Jimmy Townley said, during the ACLU vs. Arkansas case,
that any evidence that cast doubt on evolution must be evidence for God and creation (Edwords,
1982). The statement proves that if evolution is wrong, then it must be God that created all, which is
logical. It is logical because there is no other theory, that is known to the general public, that claims
how all living things came about so therefore it is either God or evolution. Francis Collins, a
geneticist, devoted Christian, who converted from Atheism at age twenty seven uses a logical
argument by stating If God wanted to create humans, it would be slightly odd that He should choose
the extraordinarily roundabout way of waiting ten billion years before life got started (2006, Van
Biema), which is not what God did nor would do because the Bible says that God had created all
things in six days, not ten billion years. It does not make sense for God to create a single cell, and then
let the cell evolve into a human that took ten billion years; the reason is because God had created man

The set, designed by Jill Davis, overall was very impressive and worked very well with the show.
When I first walked into the theater, I could tell right away that the show was set in the future. The
intricate design all over the floor gave a very futuristic feel, as well as the appliances over where the
kitchen area was. One of the most impressive aspects of the set was the fact that the sink had running
water. Something that the show didn t necessarily need, but when you saw it you knew that the team
had gone above and beyond to make sure that the show was the best that it could be, and that didn t go
unnoticed. Everything on the set looked futuristic and new, that is, except for Majorie s chair at the
beginning of the show, it represented how Majorie stuck out in this new era, and how she longed for
things the way they were when she was young, and it brought great symbolism into the show. The
costumes, designed by Inda Blatch Geib, were a wonderful addition to the show as well. With this
play being set in the future, it would be very easy to go over the top with costumes and put each of the
characters in absurd clothing that is extreme. But instead of doing this, she kept the costume plot very
simple. She put each of them in clothes that fit their character and were very simple, which fit the
show very well, and I appreciated it. I really liked the

Young Goodman Brown, The Scarlett Letter, And The House Of...
Young Goodman Brown: Analysis of his faith
Personal experience plays a vital role when authors decide on the certain topics for their stories. A
factor like religion may determine an author s writing style. For example, an author who may have had
a Christian upbringing may write about faith, hell, or salvation; in contrast, one who had a negative
experience with religion as a child, may hint at departing from their family and finding one s own
religion. A well known author from the 1800s, Nathaniel Hawthorne, implements his religious
upbringing in his stories, Young Goodman Brown , The Scarlett Letter , and The House of Seven
Gables. The use of certain thematic elements in Young Goodman Brown help readers understand how
the main character lost his faith and became bitter towards religious people.
In the year 1804, Nathaniel Hawthorne was born to Massachusetts Bay colonists; Nathaniel Hathorne
and Elizabeth Clarke Manning in Salem, Massachusetts. Hawthorne s great grandfather, John
Hathorne, had the role of judging during the Salem Witch Trials in 1692 (Means). ... Show more

Faith is also young like her husband. Faith is portrayed as a sweet, pure hearted, innocent woman who
represented Goodman Brown s belief. Her child like innocence is represented with pink ribbons in her
hair throughout the story. Due to the couple being so young and newlyweds, goodman brown was not
strong in his faith and therefore dependent on Faith, his wife s faith to keep them both accountable
Thus, resulting in his own relationship and faith tested (Boonyaprasop 45). When heading into the
forest for his exhibition, Goodman Brown was hesitant leaving his wife alone in Salem. In contrast,
Faith, his wife, begged him not to go for he may lose his faith. Although Faith was not fully on board
with Goodman Brown leaving, she remains whole and hopes he finds the meaning of the exhibition

workers face in the United States. In fact, I completely agree with your statement that even though the
United States agricultural industry heavily depends on the labor migrant farm workers provide, the
men, women, and children performing the work are for the most part seriously underappreciated.
Additionally, you made an extremely interesting point about migrant farm workers who are in the
country legally, even though they are eligible for government assistance (WIC, Medicaid, and food
stamps), who do not receive these benefits because they are frequently traveling from state to state to
find work. I had not considered this element of

An Analysis Of Salvador Dali s The Persistence Of Memory 1931
THE PERSISTENCE OF MEMORY (1931)
The Persistence of Memory (1931) was made in 1931 by Salvador Dali, the artwork is 24 x 33 cm oil
on canvas painting, and now the artwork is in The Museum of Modern Art, New York. The style of the
artwork is surrealistic. The subject matter is a barren landscape with melting clocks draped over
unrelated objects, caricature of Dali s face on the ground, plus a rocky headland with sea in the
background. The focal point of the artwork is the strange caricature of Dali s profile, complete with
eyelashes, tongue and nose. This is because it is so light amongst dark surrounding shadows on the
ground.
The artist used some surrealist techniques which is Metamorphosis, Rescaling of objects and out of

The main colours used are blue, yellow, orange and brown. There is also a specific scheme involved in
this artwork, which is orange and blue are opposite on the colour wheel, creating visual interest and
drama in the composition. Those colour been used to realistically describe forms, they also used to
communicate a feeling in this painting. The strongly contrasting colours creates a mysterious shadowy
atmosphere in the unusual foreground objects, which is balanced by the lighter landscape areas in the
horizon.
There are some lines been used in the artwork, which is thin, straight and neat. Dali used very thin and
detailed lines particularly on the foreground object such as the numbers on the clocks and the
eyelashes on his caricature s eye. He also used some shapes which is definite, geometric, organic and
detailed. Dali has created definite and detailed looking shapes. He has contrasted the organic shapes of
the boxes on the left hand side of the composition. There is a very strong tonal contrast between the
darker foreground, and the lighter background areas of the landscape. This contrast creates the effect
of visual interest in the composition. And the surface of the artwork is smooth. Any texture left on this
canvas would be implied to represent rougher areas, such as in the rocks and ants. Dali took extreme

DATE PERFORMED: JULY 20, 2007 SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF EQUILIBRIUM CONSTANT FOR A REACTION ABSTRACT UV VIS spectrophotometry is one of the most widely used methods for determining and identifying many inorganic species. During this experiment, this spectrophotometry was used to determine the equilibrium constant, Keq, of the Fe3+(aq)+SCN (aq)↔ FeSCN2+(aq) reaction. By determining the amount of light absorbed, the concentration of the colored FeSCN2+ solution was also quantitatively determined. From that data, the concentrations of the reagents at equilibrium may also be determined. We set the wavelength of the spectrophotometer to 447 nm so we could achieve maximum sensitivity. At this point, the change in absorbance per unit of concentration is greatest and there is greater adherence to Beer s Law. Table I. Because ligaments attach bone to bone and play a major part in providing stability for joints, the major stabilizing ligament in the knee, the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), assists in performing everyday actions of the human body including sitting, standing, walking, running, dancing, and participating in other sports. This is one reason why many athletes should be aware of the physical indications that arise if they have torn their ACL while participating in athletic activities. In many cases, the symptoms that the patient feels after the trauma has occurred can help the doctor make his or her diagnosis. Many times a doctor will ask the patient to recall what happened after the injury was sustained. Usually with an ACL injury, the patient will describe a so called pop or snap that he or she heard during the impact. The statement proves that if evolution is wrong, then it must be God that created all, which is logical. It is logical because there is no other theory, that is known to the general public, that claims how all living things came about so therefore it is either God or evolution. Francis Collins, a geneticist, devoted Christian, who converted from Atheism at age twenty seven uses a logical argument by stating If God wanted to create humans, it would be slightly odd that He should choose the extraordinarily roundabout way of waiting ten billion years before life got started (2006, Van Biema), which is not what God did nor would do because the Bible says that God had created all things in six days, not ten billion years.
