LOT2 Task 1
Diagram
Below is a diagram which illustrates how the attack overwhelmed the Web Server.
Executive Summary
The attack performed on the network had the intention of making the online services provided to
students unusable during a critical time of need for those systems. The attack was first performed by
acquiring the Administrator password for the systems and using each system to perform a large
quantity of requests for service to the web servers. By dissecting what occurred steps can be put in
place to prevent such an attack in the future. This attack can be summarized in a few bullets:
The attacker was allowed to install software without having Administrator rights

These programs detect when keystroke input is being directed to another location besides the currently
targeted window. Most programs will send an alert when such activity is detected providing a means
for early detection and removal before sensitive data is obtained.
For the actual attack that took place there are changes that need to be performed on both the client s
side as well as the server s side. These changes involve limiting the quantities of request either side
can make. For the client s I would recommend a firewall placed between them and the server which
would be configured to limit the amount of requests to be made to any outside source and either notify
and administrator or outright blocking additional requests beyond the threshold.
The same implementation should be made for the server as well. In the server s case the firewall
placed between it and any client should limit the quantity of connection from a source IP. The
unfortunate side of this, and why the client firewall be implemented, is that many clients can be
located behind one source IP address. This means that the server s firewall configuration needs to be
more lenient the the client firewall.
In addition to adding a firewall, the server itself should only allow a certain amount of it s CPU,
memory, and available bandwidth to processing these requests. The reason for this is that the
remaining resource availability allows for an administrator to gain access and

Solving Optimization Problems Involving Polynomial
Blendeman 2C
Expectation:
2.4 solve optimization problems involving polynomial, simple rational, and exponential functions
drawn from a variety of applications, including those arising from real world situations.
2.5 solve problems arising from real world applications by applying a mathematical model and the
concepts and procedures associated with the derivative to determine mathematical results, and
interpret and communicate the results.
Concept:
For these expectations students need to take their prior knowledge of derivatives and apply that
knowledge to real world application problems. Students may be faced with a problem and then have to
decode what that problem is asking them to do. From the information that they are given they would
have to create and apply a mathematical model that will allow them to solve the problem.
Example: A farmer has 2400 ft of fencing and wants to fence off a rectangular field that borders a
straight river. He needs no fencing along the river. What are the dimensions of the field that has the
largest area?
This example gives students an idea of how the concepts that they are learning in the course can be
applied to real world situations. The problem does not provide the students with the needed
mathematical model, but gives them all the needed information to create a model that will help them
solve the problems. Students have to recognize that this is an optimization question dealing with
maximizing an area.

How Does Gray Matter Effects Schizophrenia And Bipolar...
Gray matter, an important constituent of central nervous system includes regions of the brain involved
in sensory perception that includes vision, hearing, memory, emotions, speech, executive functions
like decision making and self control. Gray matter has been a focus of clinical attention and research
as it has been consistently involved in studies to better understand brain pathology, pathophysiology
and neurobiology in schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Many meta analytical reviews in structural
neuroimaging studies have persistently shown abnormalities in schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
Using anatomical likelihood estimation (ALE), a meta analyses of forty two studies demonstrated
extensive gray matter deficits in frontal, temporal, cingulate and insular cortex and thalamus in
schizophrenia (SZ) when compared to healthy controls. Similarly the same meta analyses of fourteen
studies showed gray matter reductions in anterior cingulate and bilateral insula in bipolar disorder
(BD) when compared to healthy controls (Ellison Wright I and Bullmore E, 2010). However the
regions of grey matter reduction were less extensive in bipolar than schizophrenia. Another recent
meta analyses conducted using revised ALE showed consistent gray matter decreases in patients (SZ,
BD) in bilateral anterior insula, dorsal anterior cingulate (dACC), dorso/ventro medial prefrontal
cortex, thalamus, amygdala, hippocampus, superior temporal gyrus along with gray matter increases

Learning Disabilities Assignment
1. Identify legislation and policies that are designed to promote the human rights, inclusion, equal life
chances and citizenship of individuals with learning disabilities
One of the main causes of discrimination is the fear and lack of understanding of others because they
are different. In order to prevent discrimination it is important to value people and treat them
differently in order to meet their different needs. The legislation and policies that are designed to
promote human rights, inclusion, equal life chances and citizenship are:
Human Rights Act 1998
Mental Capacity Act 2005
Mental Health Act 1983

Significance Of The Second Nun Essay
Part one: The Pilgrim In order to understand the significance of the second nun we must first look at
the duties and life of a traditional medieval nun. Medieval nuns and priests were expected to live a
very devout and highly moral life. Medieval nuns and priests must be fully dedicated to god and
christian faith. The daily life of a medieval nun was formulated around three main vows established by
St Benedict in 480 550 AD, The vow of Poverty, The vow of Chastity and the Vow of obedience. As
dictated by these vows nuns and priests must live very modestly and renounce everything they own
for use of the common good, remain chaste for their entire lives and must be obedient to god as well
as their superiores. Medieval nun s and priests lived isolated from civilization in fully self sustained
compounds know as covenants. Inside the covenant nun s and priest were expected to perform daily
tasks such as: washing and cooking for the monastery, raising the necessary supplies of vegetables and
grain, producing wine, ale and honey, providing medical care for the community, providing education
for novices, spinning, weaving and embroidery, and Illuminating manuscripts. In addition to these
tasks nuns and priest followed a very strict and routine schedule of daily prayers known as the book of
hours. All nuns and priests were expected to attend the prayers and would immediately stop what they
are doing to inorder attend. Due to the lack of description in the general prologue and fact

Reliability Of The Measurement Instrument Essay
4.3 Reliability analysis To evaluate the reliability of the measurement instrument it was developed an
internal consistency analysis through Cronbach s alpha. It is an index that takes values between 0 and
1, used to verify if the instrument is reliable and performs stable and consistent measurements
(Santesmases, 2009). Cronbach s alpha estimates the lower limit of the reliability coefficient and it is
expressed through Formula 2. (2) Where k is the number of items in the test; Si2 is the items variance
(from 1...i) and S2sum is the total test variance. This means that the reliability depends on the test
length and the covariance among its items (Santesmases, 2009). It is important to mention that it was
decided to apply a pilot test to 40 customers, with the purpose of measuring the questionnaire s
internal consistency. In the first version, the test was integrated by 22 items distributed in five
dimensions and after being undergone to Cronbach s alpha validity test, the instrument was redesigned
to 20 items, as is shown in Graphic 4. Graphic 4. Items and dimensions of final questionnaire

Suicide in the Trenches- Analysis
Suicide In The Trenches
In my analysis, I will demonstrate how Siegfred Sassoon has used many different language techniques
to show his perspective on the true meaning of war.
For example, the poet has used simplistic diction that creates an image of the destruction of a simple
soldier boy . At first we see him whistling, this then degrades to depression which lead him to
committing suicide. Siegfred Sassoon concludes his poem with anger and a powerful message. Sneak
home and pray you ll never know emphasizes that those who aren t soldiers have to sneak home and
pray to show their empathy for the soldiers. In the last line it implies the fact that the crowd doesn t
have to go through the hell where youth and laughter go . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
the rhyme of brain and again at line eight tries to form a connection that although a young boy was
convinced to join the war and fought tremendously for his country and himself. However, in the end,
he was pushed to his limit and no one spoke of him again . This shows how cruel and selfish war is.
The boy had sacrificed his childhood fun, laughter and playful life in for nothing to return. This is
effective because it makes the reader think about why is there war and why are there innocent lives at
risk which creates the bitter mood.
The diction used in the poem sends the reader a clear message about war. In the last stanza, the word
kindling is being used to describe the eyes of the smug faced crowds . Kindling is used to describe the
facial description which shows that it is a very shallow expression feature that expresses the lack of
empathy shown to the young men. However, Siegfried tries to show with a sarcastic tone that they
think war is a glorious thing; they feel proud of the children risking their lives with nothing in return
and seem to understand and appreciate what they are doing. But in reality the public cannot imagine
what these children are going through. This is how the word kindling reveals a shallow side of
everyone s personality.
In my personal opinion, the last stanza is the strongest and most impactful stanza. While the previous
two stanzas shows the transformation of the boy

Essay on Fundamentalism and Inerrancy of Scripture
Inerrancy as an Issue in the Fundamentalist Movement: 1900 to the Present. A Paper Submitted to Dr.
Homer Massey In Partial Fulfillment Of the Requirements for the Course History of Christianity II
CHHI 525 By, Johnny walker INERRANCY OF THE SCRIPTURES Outline Fundamentalism is a
type of religious reaction to all forms of modernity. Within Christianity this phenomenon is mostly
characteristic of Protestantism but is also found in Catholicism. In fact, the term fundamentalism was
coined in the United States at the beginning of the 20th century, but it was only toward the end of that
century that the term began to be applied to some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Opposing their extremist positions, in 1942 the moderates created a World Evangelical Association
that the fundamentalists attacked. The fundamentalists became visible again in the last third of the
20th century, reacting against the liberal trends in major Protestant churches. Catholicism The
fundamentalist movement in the Catholic Church has not been significant. The infallibility of the
Bible is not a dogma for Catholics, thus offering little ground for fundamentalism. Catholicism allows
some leeway for developing dogma (John Henry Newman ) as well as for the importance of tradition
and, in contrast to the fundamentalists, it does not consider the Bible to be the only authority. Catholic
movements today emphasize the conservative pontifical documents from the last few centuries and are
wary of the more moderate decrees of Vatican II (Monsignor Lefèbvre s anti Vatican II movement in
France is a vivid example). These movements did not draw undue attention from the hierarchy , but
they did influence certain informal developers of fundamentalism among some Catholics. Some such
influences came from relations with Protestants such as through charismatic movements that crossed
denominational borders. Main Characteristics of Fundamentalism The array of conservative, orthodox
, and other traditional movements are not

To Kill or Let Die
To kill or to let die What would you choose? You are standing on a platform at a train station. An out
of control train carriage is coming down the track past the platform, there are three workers repairing
the same track further down the line. They don t have time to get out of the way of the carriage, the
only way to save them would be to push the very large person next to you down the track, the person s
body will act to halt the train thus killing him but saving the three workers. A swift decision has to be
made, if I was in this situation I would choose to stand by and watch, letting the three people die,
because I believe it s better to be blamed for indirect killing rather than directly have blood on my
hands. I would let nature take its course.
Good arguments exist for both pushing the person onto the tracks and for not pushing them. The
argument for not pushing the large person is from the no harm principle which says that an action is
permissible if and only if it does not harm others. Since pushing the person next to me onto the tracks
below will kill them, and so harm them, the no harm principle appears to say that the act of pushing
them is not permissible. Since the act is not permissible, I should not therefore push them.
On the other hand, the argument for pushing comes from the minimize harm principle which says that
faced with two courses of action, you should choose that action which minimizes the amount of harm
that results. Since pushing the person

Nightingale s Reform And Career As A Nurse In British...
Road to Reform
Nightingale s reform and career as a nurse really took off in 1954 when she began working at British
hospitals during the Crimean War (Tunstall, 2016). She oversaw the introduction of the new nurses at
a military hospital in Turkey (Cohen, 1984). Nightingale worked in hospitals that had terrible
conditions. The bandages used for the patents were unsanitary, the water was rancid, and the food was
repulsive (Florence, 2016). The hospital itself was filled with rats and flees (Cohen, 1984). The
building was on top of a sewer system causing dirty air to be pushed up in to rooms overcrowded with
patients (Cohen, 1984). The sheets were washed in cold water and were so unclean that they had to be
thrown out or burned most of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nightingale began to classify these different deaths. Each death was classified as due to a contagious
illness (a disease), a wound or injury from war, or from other causes (things that fit in neither of these
categories) (Franklin, 2012).
The Calculations
After collecting and analyzing this data, Nightingale had to represent it in a way that policy makers
would understand (Tunstall, 2016). Most of these individuals did not have a background in statistics or
understand how to make sense of the data collected (Tunstall, 2016). Nightingale proceeded to use
various visual representation of her data as well as her numbers to prove the need for reform (Cohen,
1984). She used line diagrams, line graphs, and scatter plots to represent her statistical data (Franklin,
2012). Nightingale developed polar area diagram to easily show the data she collected (Tunstall,
2016). The purpose of this diagram was to represent each category based on its size while still
maintaining the same angle for each one. she used this diagram to convey information about different
months in 1855 and the types of deaths that occurred (Tunstall, 2016) . On top of that, Nightingale
used different methods and comparisons to intentionally show the dramatic affect that lack of
sanitation had in military hospitals (Cohen, 1984).
Nightingale represented and provided a large amount of data as proof for the need to reform hospitals.
Nightingale was able to

Sexual Despotism In Susanna s Seven Husband By Ruskin Bond
Ruskin Bond, rightly observed as Wordsworth of India, has made eminent contribution to Indian
writing in English. His works, sophisticated yet simple, convey a large and complex meaning inherent
in Indian life and culture. Prominently recognized for his treatment of nature, children and childhood
in his notable works, Bond also established himself as an illustrious promoter of feminism. Under the
wrap of dark comedy, he gracefully touches on the subject of sexual despotism and repression meted
out towards women. In Susanna s Seven Husbands, he ruthlessly brings out the subjugation that a
woman faces in a prejudiced society by subverting the established norms of system and institution
regarding the general perception of women s place in society. ... Show more content on

Why Is Individuality Important
In a time like the 21st century, individuality is especially important. Everywhere you go there s a
person that s trying to either be themselves or they re trying to be like someone else. Everyone has her
own sense of uniqueness, some people either keep it to themselves, or they like to make it known that
they are different. Individuality is the genre of music you like, it s the hobbies you like to do in your
free time, it s the little things you do that define who you are. Finding your personal individuality is a
part of life. Throughout life you have been surrounded by things that will shape who you are and those
thing will help determine who you will become to be.
It is important to express your selfness. In order to do that you must be comfortable with who you are
and you must accept the fact that you are unlike anyone else. This isn t a bad thing at all. Recently, I
learned to embrace who I am. Before then, I was very insecure and quiet. I had to realize that I needed

Some people think that being yourself is a bad excuse to be selfish and to not conform to society.
Personally I think that establishing your individuality is important to do because people need to
express who they are and not try to be like each other. For example, I rap and in order to gain fans I try
to distinguish myself from other rappers on Soundcloud because if not, no one will want to make
music with me which will make it even harder to become known. Growing up as a kid I didn t exactly
fit in with all the other popular kids. As i got older it meant more to me to be who I am. Come to find
out i fit in more if i was just myself. I realized that I m not that different from other people because
some people are just as weird as me. That s when I realized individuality is something to not be
ashamed of. No two people are exactly alike and I feel that it s a part of life to find that

How Does Temperature Affect The Rate Of Reaction Experiment
From the results that were collect throughout the experimental investigation has proved the hypothesis
to only be partially right. Multiple tests were made when conducting the experiment, two clear
solutions were combined at various temperatures and concentrations. The hypothesis states that by
adjusting the concentration of the reactants will cause the reaction to either speed up at a higher
concentration or slow down at a lower concentration. In the reaction temperature should have a similar
effect on the experiment, in that increasing the temperature will cause an increase of particle
movement and cause more collision, thus increasing the reaction rate. Therefore decreasing the
temperature will decrease the rate of the reaction. From the results given in Tables 2 and 3 it shown
that every time the concentration is halved the time is increased. When the concentrations of both
KIO3 and NaHSO3 are decreased the time has increased, some concentrations having a higher
increase than others. In each concentration decrease the time is at least doubled from the previous
concentration time, which is therefore increasing the rate of the reaction. Although unlike the change
in concentration, when the temperature of the reactants were either increased or decreased their was
no significant change. As shown in table 4. When the temperature was either increased or decreased to
10°C, 30°C, 40°C and 50°C the average times are all within one second of each other. Except for
when the reactants were cooled to a further 5°C the reaction time was increased by more than double
the reaction time. This showing that the results from the investigation did not fully support the stated
hypothesis. The standard rate law for the Iodine Clock reaction, is a first order reaction for KIO3 and a
second order reaction for NaHSO3. To determine this you must substitute the values into the equations
and whichever produces a straight line graph determines whether it is a first or second order reaction.
In graph 1. It shows that KIO3 is a second order reaction, this is due to the second order reaction
graph being straighter than the first order graph. This meaning the reaction proceeds at a rate
proportional to the square of the concentration,

Katherine s And Michelle s Case Essay
Katherine s and Michelle s Case Biological/ Neurobiological Components Research verifies that the
trend in families with lesbian couples tends to have an egalitarian foundation where the roles under a
traditional marriage are upheld: finances. decision making, housework, and parenting (Dorman and
Mixon, 2014). Upon the arrival of children, these relationships tend to mirror that of heterosexual
couples, where the biological mother tends to do the entire child bearing/rearing roles. In this vignette
we are introduced to Katherine who is a forty five year old mother to her sixteen year old daughter
Michelle. Both ladies live in New York, where Katherine lost her partner Jane on September 11, 2001.
Katherine harbors guilt because she stayed home on 9/11 due to being sick from her pregnancy.
Katherine reports feelings of depression. Doctors are not sure what causes depression, but studies have
shown that there is a change in brain activity and brain shape with the rapid change in a person s
mood. The brain is reported to shrink, or at least certain parts do, such as the hippocampus, which
function is to store and create a human s memories and the frontal lobes which are involved in motor
function, problem solving, spontaneity, memory, language, initiation, judgment, impulse control, and
social and sexual behavior. This destruction of the brain is linked to Alzheimer s and other forms of

The opposing sides of good and evil, religion and science, power and intelligence, and knowledge and
ignorance have been battling for centuries. Loyal and faithful believers aid both halves and have
affected the world we live in today. Dan Brown is a renowned author who has penned many books in
his Robert Langdon series that explore these conflicts. The first book, Angels and Demons, focuses on
the clashes of the Catholic Church and scientific institutions around the world. In it, Robert Langdon

City in Angels and Demons, or watching him race through Italy as he attempts to contain the world s

History of Auguste Escoffier and Marie Careme
Auguste Escoffier, The emperor of Chefs
Auguste Escoffier was born in Villeneuve Loubet, the Provence region of France in October 28, 1846.
When he turned 13, his father took him to Nice where he apprenticed at a restaurant owned by his
uncle, thus beginning the illustrious career that he enjoyed for the next 62 years.
His culinary career took him many places, from the early years at the fashionable Le Petit Moulin
Rouge and several other restaurants in Paris, to Monte Carlo, Switzerland, and London. In 1870, when
the Franco Prussian War began, Escoffier was called to duty in the army where he served as Chef de

As well as making changes in the culinary world, Escoffier undertook several philanthropic endeavors
including the organization of programs to feed the hungry and programs to financially assist retired
chefs. Escoffier received several honors in his lifetime. The French government recognized Escoffier
in 1920 by making him a Chevalier of the Legion d Honneur, and later an Officer in 1928. The honors
due Escoffier can be summed up by a quote from Germany s Kaiser Wilhelm II when he told
Escoffier, I am the Emperor of Germany, but you are the emperor of chefs. With his wife, Delphine
Daffis, Escoffier retired to Monte Carlo in 1921, there he died on February 12, 1935.

Dna Coding For Ampicillin Resistance And Green Fluorescent...
Abstract This experiment was performed to assess the efficacy of genetic transformations on bacteria
via plasmid DNA coding for ampicillin resistance and green fluorescent protein. Genetic
transformation was studied by taking transformed and untransformed Escherichia Coli (E. coli) and
placing them on various media to observe gene expression via growth and color under UV light. The
transformed E. coli were able to grow on ampicillin while the untransformed E. coli, which lacked the
plasmid genes for ampicillin resistance, only grew on nutrient broth. In the presence of arabinose, the
transformed E. coli glowed green. These results support the previous scientific understanding of
bacterial competency, vectors, and gene expression and support gene transformations as an effective
method to transfer the desirable DNA of one organism into another organism s DNA. These results
can be applied to real world issues such as medical treatments, food production, and environmental
conservation.
Introduction
Genetic engineering is used in health treatments, agricultural applications, and environmental
solutions. Genetic transformations incorporate foreign genetic material into the DNA of a different
organism via a vector, which carries the genetic material. Plasmid DNA is small, round, and
autonomous, due to its origin of replication. In biotechnology, plasmids carry beneficial genes, such as
antibiotic resistance, and also a reporter protein, in this case, Green Fluorescent Protein

In determining the FMV of both classes of NYC medallions, we analyzed the various methodologies
for calculating the estimated value of the medallion and found the approach used in this report, the
income approach, to be the most concrete based on factual data to render this type of assessment. As
such, the analysis in this report is limited to, and only should be adopted holistically with, the
pertinent qualifying parameters.
After an extensive review of all applicable datasets and information, we conclude that the taxicab
medallion values for the period for January 2016 to April 2017, calculated using the discounted cash
flow methodology, were $550,000 and $1,108,000, respectively.
The subsequent sections of the report will: (1) provide an overview of the NYC taxi medallion market
and new market entrants impact on the taxi industry; (2) identify the best approach to determine
medallion valuation (3) analyze data gathered using discounted cash flow to assess valuation of both
classes of medallions.

vehicles and drivers entry into what was an all cash business, and to limit the impact of traffic
congestion, fare cutting wars and other unsafe (and sometimes illegal) activities. In 1937, the City

Carbon Tax Research Paper
Global warming is real. The truth is if we do not act act boldly and quickly the problem will get
worsen in the coming years to come. It is the major threat to the planet earth and to minimize this
threat, it will require a major reduction in the burning of the coal and fossil fuels. The fossil fuel
industry that releases Green house gases like carbon dioxide in major percentage, methane, nitrous
oxide, has played major role in this threat increment and its contents is increasing daily in the
atmosphere. As Earth s climate warms, rapid loss of glacial ice is being documented around the world.
The rising of the sea levels throughout the world is also observed. These multi billion dollar industry
is slowly destroying the planet earth, and getting rich while doing it. That must end and I believe
therefore a carbon tax is must in order to dramatically reduce the carbon pollution.
In 2008 Eminent climatologist James Hansen urged U.S. President Barack Obama to support a carbon
tax. Hansen was the first climate scientist to state publicly that greenhouse gas emissions were causing
climate change, at a hearing before the U.S. Senate 20 years ago. All reputable scientists agree that
climate change is man made, and a huge challenge for human civilization. Political efforts for an

Freedom of Speech vs. Censorship on the Internet
Freedom of Speech Vs. Censorship:
Children on the Internet
The internet is a very controversial communication device in today s society. If desired, one could find
information on nearly any topic they choose. Censorship and free speech is a widely discussed topic
when dealing with the current freedom of the internet especially when dealing with young minds.
Should the internet have censored topics which would be illegal to post and/or view freely by
children? Should the internet be a free for all arena in which anyone could do as they wish without
judgment of others opinions and views imposing on their own? So far in class and in the text Gift of
Fire by Sara Baase we have seen many issues dealing with Freedom of Speech and the internet. ...

As a result of this and the international span of the internet, it is hard for the FCC to be an overseer of
the medium. Certain controversial laws have attempted to set in place regulations that censor ethically
and socially dubious materials from publication on the web. The topic that has been at the forefront of
debate deals with obscene materials. This is a heated topic because the definition of obscenity is very
vague and subject to interpretation. What is considered to be obscene can be viewed very differently
depending on ones personal morals, beliefs, and values. For example, a parent who is highly religious
and living in the United States may view nudity on cable television as obscene and pornographic for
their child to view, while a person with the same religious beliefs living in Europe or another part of
the world may just view this as art or entertainment. This is due to the difference in societal views on
obscenity.
To get to the root of what is considered obscene, a test for judging obscene material was set in the case
of Miller v. California. This modern test for obscenity consists of three parts: (1) the proscribed
material must depict or describe sexual conduct in a patently offensive way, (2) the conduct must be
specifically described in the law, and (3) the work must,

Reliability Of Wikipedia Essay
The reliability of Wikipedia (predominantly of the English language edition) has been frequently
questioned and often assessed. The reliability has been tested statistically, through comparative
review, analysis of the historical patterns, and strengths and weaknesses inherent in the editing process
unique to Wikipedia.[1] Incidents of conflicted editing, and the use of Wikipedia for revenge editing
(inserting false, defamatory or biased statements into biographies) have attracted publicity.[2][3] A
study in the journal Nature said that in 2005, Wikipedia s scientific articles came close to the level of
accuracy in Encyclopædia Britannica and had a similar rate of serious errors .[4] Encyclopædia
Britannica disputed the Nature study,[5] and Nature replied with a formal response and point by point
rebuttal of Britannica s main objections.[6] Between 2008 and 2012, Wikipedia articles on medical
and scientific fields such as pathology,[7] toxicology,[8] oncology,[9] pharmaceuticals,[10][11] and
psychiatry[12] were compared to professional and peer reviewed sources and it was found that
Wikipedia s depth and coverage were of a high standard. Concerns regarding readability were raised
in a study published by the American Society of Clinical Oncology[13] and a study published in ...

The United States is known for its prosperous upbringing in becoming the richest country in the

powerful and important figure in the world, however its history of transporting people from Africa to

1. What is competition like in the value added seafood industry? What competitive forces seem to
have the greatest effect on industry attractiveness from the standpoint of packaged seafood producers?
The competitive environment in the value added seafood industry, while not significantly threatening,
does still have its challenges. Addison and Rathle acknowledge that there is not a large competitive
market for their specific area, although there are four or five that market gumbo. They acknowledgee
that their largest competitors are all the other food items in the store that can be purchased. This also

Also, this increased competition among grocers resulted in some going out of business resulting in
loss of sales for those vendors. Also, these large grocery chains demands exceeded the ability for
small food companies to provide products in such large volume. This forced these small businesses to
focus more on smaller markets and also to identify niches in the market that could be exploited. Small
restaurants and food chains now became major purchasers of these products. Also, the frequency of
the average American eating out increased further adding to the attractiveness of vendor sales to
restaurateurs. Also, certain businesses expanded to meet these large demand markets in the grocery
and restaurant market. These state of the art production facilities threatened smaller companies
without a competitive product or established market. All of these changes resulted in certain drivers
coming to the forefront. The first would be the need to reduce volatility. Competitors in the market
would need to select markets wisely to reduce the risk of not being competitive or the uncertainty of
the marketability of their product. They also would need to increase their ability to diversify into
different products. Large food companies may monopolize a certain product making it necessary for
other companies to become creative in developing other products or marketing strategies. On the plus
side, the ability of a company

Criminal Behavior And The Justice System Essay
Incarceration rates are extremely costly and the rates of incarceration are alarmingly high in the
United States. Individuals engage in criminal behaviors for many reasons. Although the reasons are
numerous and vary, the justice system has attempted to narrow down the causes of criminal behavior.
The justice system has also put into place specialty courts that are designed to better address these
particular causes of criminal behavior. The goal of these courts is to better address the individual s
reason that they engaged in criminal behavior in hopes that with the additional support, in the future
the individual will become a productive member of society. What are specialty Courts? Specialty
courts are becoming more and more popular throughout the country. Specialty courts are also
commonly referred to as problem solving courts. These courts mainly focus on a specific type of
criminal offense or a cause of a criminal offense. Specialty courts differ from the traditional court
system. Traditional court systems are not always equipped to effectively deal with certain needs of the
offenders that they come into contact with. Specialty courts are set up to help better address certain
issues and are able to provide options that are specific to the offender s needs. In addition, specialty
courts tend to take on less severe cases, which also help decongest the traditional system. Specialty
courts usually have staff that specialize and are trained on the specific type of court

in button up shirts and dress pants. This overall minimalistic aesthetic was evident in every aspect of
the performance and emphasized the idea of uniformity and conformity that was present in American
society during this time period. The cast was composed of fifteen actors, in which some of the actors
performed multiple characters such as Ayla Sullivan who portrayed Daisy and Mrs. Seven or Brendan
Lynch who took on the role of Shrdlu and Mr. Four. Each performer delivered dialogue with an
intense conviction and sharpness. This intensity was only magnified when the ensemble delivered
their lines together loudly and articulately. The choreography was also synchronized and intricately
placed to symbolize how a machine functions and reinforce this idea of a mechanized, industrial
society that has robbed each worker of their humanity, more explicitly their individualistic
personalities. Although there were several characters present, the absence of individualism was further
depicted through the sequenced names of Zero, One, Two Three, Four, Five, Six in ascending order,
the homogenous clothing, and the expressionless, serious countenance each character possessed.

Hester Prynne Heroism
One of the most enduring conflicts concerning Nathaniel Hawthorne s novel The
Scarlet Letter is over whose story is primarily being told: Hester Prynne s or Arthur Dimmesdale s.
Hester s feminine heroism tends to domineer the novel in contrast to the distraught clergyman, so

upon the spot where, seven years since, I should have stood; here, with this woman, whose arm, more
than the little strength wherewith I have crept hitherward, sustains me, at this dreadful moment, from

usually as a result of the hero s hamartia could have been prevented entirely. Unlike the tragic heroes
of Macbeth or Oedipus, whose lives were doomed from the start and therefore unalterable,
Dimmesdale has the power to change his fate. The minister recognizes this frequently throughout the

guilt, to relinquish himself from the chains of his guilt and prevent it from ultimately destroying him,
but he chooses to suffer quietly.

The Golden Age of Sports The 1920s was a great decade for the economy because of the popularity in
sports. The number of fans increased, which created the need for new stadiums and raised the salary
for sports stars. Sports in the 1920s went through many changes in the time period known as the
Roaring Twenties. New heroes, new teams, and new leagues were emerging in sports. Some sports
were just starting, some were broadening their horizons, while others were just becoming more
popular. The media helped to make sports become more popular in the 1920s. Movie houses showed
videos of sports contests, which helped create stars. Newspapers and magazines gave the sports
reporter a new authority as the media brought information about athletes and athletics to large
audiences. Radio broadcasts of college football and professional baseball began early in the 1920s.
The media supplied news but also manufactured it and, in the process, created and satisfied an eager
audience. The decade was the Golden Age of Sports . The 1920s were a starting foundation for
football. The most popular league, the NFL, was formed in the 1920s. On August 20, 1920, the owner
of four Ohio league teams met to form a new professional league. On September 17, the team met
again, changing its name to APFA (American Professional Football Association). By 1923, the name
was changed to the National Football League (NFL). The 20 s brought in new styles of plays, such

A Research On European Banking Regulations And Their...
The following paper attempts to address the need for future research as mentioned in part A. European
Banks are not required to hold a capital buffer against the sovereign debt holding of any European
state, regardless of the risk involved. As a result European governments had issued excessive debt,
taking advantage of a sovereign subsidy of other EU member states in the form of the 0 risk weight for
their MFI. If such a risk finally materialises, MFI will be left undercapitalised because they do not
hold a capital buffer for their sovereign exposure. Therefore 0 risk represents a channel, through
which sovereign risk can extend to any EU member state. Thus, the focus of the paper is to develop a

To support Korte and Steffen s empirical analysis there are Bolton and Jeanne (2011), who argue how
financial integration may lead to ex post contagion and oversupply of risky sovereign debt. Further,
Acharya et al. (2014) develop a model, which sees banks overleveraged because they invest too much
in low risk weighted instead of diversifying the risk. Korte and Steffen build on this model to develop
their hypothesis for the research paper. Korte and Steffen incorporate two streams of literature, which
are important to give evidence on how risk weight regulation impairs financial stability in the
Eurozone. The first stream focuses on both determinants and interdependence of sovereign risk. These

Compare And Contrast The Stamp Act And The Tea Act
After the French and Indian War, Britain went into debt. To pay off this debt they taxed the colonists.
The colonists were not happy with these taxes because they didn t have representation in Parliament.

The 1785 poem To a Mouse by Robert Burns inspired the title of John Steinbeck s 1937 novella Of
Mice and Men. These two texts carry common theme, allowing clear similarities to be drawn between
them.
In relation to the poem, Steinbeck s character Lennie represents both mouse and man. He is the man in
terms of his physical strength and characteristics but the mouse in terms of his mental capabilities,
simple desires and simple understanding of the world.
Like the man, Lennie s actions/brute force result in unintended harm. This is evident through Lennie s
encounters first with the pup and later with Curley s wife. It is also demonstrated anecdotally with
tales of unfortunate mice from Lennie s childhood.

Essay 3 For my last and final essay of this semester I chose to answer questions number five, six and
seven. I simply chose these series of questions due to the fact that I ve had all of the Freud I could
possibly take for one semester. All the questions I ve selected are involving Carl Jung and not
Sigmund Freud. To begin with my essay let s start with question number five which asks to explain
Jung s notion of collective unconscious . I very strongly believe that Jung s concept of collective
unconscious is mainly based on his personal experiences with people who suffer from schizophrenia
which he gained form when he worked with them at the Burgholzli hospital. At first Jung chose to
follow the Freudian theory of unconscious, but later on Jung eventually chose to go down his own
path and decided to develop his own theory on unconscious which would feature totally new concepts.
Most importantly being the archetype. Archetypes constitute the structure of the collective
unconscious, which are the psychic innate dispositions to experience and represent the basic human
behavior and situations. For example, Mother and child relationship which is mainly governed by the
mother archetype. The Father and child relationship is mainly governed by the Father archetype. Birth,
death, power and failure are controlled by archetypes.

Chemical Insecticides Or Utilitarianism
Chemical Insecticides or Utilitarianism
Harmful chemicals have been used throughout time to kill off insects and various plagues that have
been considered harmful to the environment. Many have questioned how helpful they really are to our
environment. Pesticides, herbicides, and insecticides have proven to be more detrimental to humans,
plants, and animals than was ever expected. The use these chemicals has proven to be more costly
than beneficial. The use of chemicals has failed to take many ethical values into consideration. One
that I will discuss today is the ethic of Utilitarianism. Utilitarianism s claim the purpose of morality is
to make the world a better place (Ethics S14). If utilitarianism was practiced more than we wouldn t
have such a big problem with the use of chemical pesticides. I will start by stating a crucial fact that
has changes the life of nature as it was once known. Since the mid 1940 s over 200 basic chemicals
have been created for the use in killing insects, weeds, rodents, and other organisms (Carson 43). The
use of these chemicals have spread quickly. One of these chemical pesticides is
dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane, better known as DDT. DDT was first discovered in 1874 and used
during WWII, to kill lice. After being used during the war it began to be used in the agricultural world
as an insecticide. The problem with this was that although the agriculture industry was benefiting, it
was benefitting at a cost to the environment.

The Perfect Beauty in Petrarch´s Gli Ocohi Oi Ch´lo...
The Perfect Beauty
A certain individual may establish beauty merely by what is viewed upon the naked eye, yet someone
else can measure beauty by using more fundamental qualities, such as good morals and ideas, which
lie beneath one s surface. This is a topic of discussion that leaves many to ask the question, what is the
true meaning of beauty? There are two prominent sonnets, which relate to the principles of true
beauty; Petrarch s Gli Occhi Oi Ch Io Paralai and Sonnet 130 by William Shakespeare. These sonnets
do nothing less, but use imagery to define the bountiful amount of beauty and how much love they
possess for an individual. Gli Occhi Oi Ch Io Paralai, represents the true beauty love has by its use of
excessive descriptions and tone. Sonnet 130 proves that beauty is not measured by idealistic, regal
measures, but rather proposes beauty is average and nothing out of the ordinary. For each sonnet
effectively describes its interpretations on the joys of beauty and love. Gli Occhi Di Ch Io Parlai
praises the artificial traits of beauty and love. Petrarch often put women on pedestals and describes
them with hyperbolic language. His sonnet, Gli Occhi Di Ch Io Parlai, is no exception to his trend.
The speaker starts off the sonnet by recounting the feeling he gets when around his love. The speaker
says when their eyes meet his passionate rapture rose (1). He also illustrates her having rays flashing
from a smiling angels glance (6), which he is for

The Political And Humanitarian Crisis
The recent conflict in Syria encompass a series of events that have led to a political and humanitarian
crisis. Since the civilization origins, Syria have suffered invasions, changes and violence. In the 1900 s
and after 400 years of Ottoman Empire domain, the Arabs army, supported by French, entered in
Damascus. Emir Feisal was crown as king of Syria but he was forced to dismiss few months later by

A Discourse Of National Identity
Analysis Evaluation
The two collections articulate a discourse about national identity and how it is reflected in the art
produced in the United States. Both museums employing traditional classification from the art history,
arranging the collections by period, schools, style, movement, and artists. Both collections approach
the paradigms that address the historiography of American Art has established: the Colony, the
configuration of the Republic, The Civil War, the Centennial of Independence, Modern art or
European influence. In turn, each collection reserves a spot to talk about the universal pictorial genres
such as landscape, portrait, peasant scenes, women in the art, and paintings of everyday life.
However, from the beginning one can see the different reality in which every museum and its
collection operate. When you enter to the galleries of the Brooklyn Museum, the amount of
information in a small space is overwhelming. Only eight galleries, plus the Luce Center, are the
spaces available to display, many times in a single room: painting, sculpture, decorative arts, furniture,
and historic interiors using colorful shaded walls, in order to introduce visitors to an epochal
atmosphere by looking at themes of globalization and cross influences among cultures.
The collection is divided thematically based on the historiography of art or pictorial genres. The color
of the walls and an information poster are an indication that you have moved to a new space and into

This book is about management, which can be defined management as the art of getting things done
through people in organizations. As we will see, management can be an extremely creative endeavour.
It can give how managers can also give organizations a sense of purpose and direction. And it will
help us understand Wal Mart s founder, Sam Walton was fond of saying, to create new ways of

Private Prisons Essay
The concept of the prison has existed for more than two thousand years. It probably goes back as far
in time as practice of cannibalism, where victims had to wait for their turn in contributing to the chief
course in the menu of their captors. Examples of prisons can even be found in the Old Testament when
Joseph was incarcerated in Egypt. It was not until the 19th century that a clear shift occurred from
corporal punishment to imprisonment. As societies prospered and the industrial revolution began, the
formal prison system, as we know it today, developed. Throughout most of the world, the correctional
system is administered by the state, and it is considered a key function that the government must
fulfill: protect its citizens by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Segal and Moore (2002) identified about 23 U.S. cost comparison studies and fewer quality studies.
Many of those studies were of questionable value because they did not comply with specific
characteristics of meta analysis (did not have explicit comparison of private and public facilities, the
study was based on citations of other studies, few recognizable databases, among others). The most
recent review, a meta analysis by Lundahl et. al. (2009) only identified 12 studies of cost and quality
meeting their criteria for sound methodology .
According to Alex Tabarrok, privately managed facilities can have cost savings of 15 25% on prison
edification and 15% on administrative expenses. Likewise, private prisons generate competition and
exert pressure towards public prisons. They encourage public prisons to also innovate and lower costs.
Other studies (Lundahl et al. 2009, page 392) argue, prison privatization provides neither a clear
advantage nor disadvantage compared with publicly managed prisons. The economic nature of private
corporations is to be profit seeking agents whose sole focus is to maximize shareholder value. This is
a fair reason and a reason that will always exist. Detractors of privatization and free market systems,
argue that

The Effect Of Atmospheric Pressure On A Cloud
This experiment will be highlighting the significance of atmospheric pressure in a cloud`s formation.
Clouds form when warm, moist air rises in the atmosphere. On its way up, it cools so that the water
vapor condenses into small particles such as airborne dust, thereby forming water droplets. This is
exactly what a cloud is, a large collection of very tiny droplets of water or ice crystals. This process is
known as cloud formation and is affected by temperature since clouds are occasionally produced by
the mixing of warmer and cooler air currents. This process is part of the water cycle which is the
transfer of water from air, sea land and water in a cycle. Overall, this paper will be explaining the
materials and methods that will end up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If a cloud is water vapor, and vapor has weight, why does it float in the air? Well, according to
columnist Adams, a modest size cloud, has a mass equivalent to one B 747 jumbo jet, but the cloud`s
mass is spread over a big volume of space which causes the density of it to be relatively low.
Furthermore, the process of condensation is essential to the water cycle since it is responsible for the
formation of a cloud which creates precipitation that allows water to return to the planet`s surface,
thus letting the cycle to continue. In order to form a cloud, there are three requirements which,
according to Oklahoma Project, are essential. First, water vapor must be present in large amounts.
Secondly, cloud condensation nuclei such as dust or salt particles must be present in order to provide a
basement for water to condense. Lastly, a cooling mechanism must be present to cool the air
temperature to a certain point, allowing clouds to form.
Based on all these information, my specific question that I hope this experiment answers is: What role
does air pressure as well as temperature plays on the biological process known as cloud condensation?
My hypothesis consists of understanding these factors. If water vapor attaches to particles such as
smoke, together with a specific temperature, then the process of condensation will allow a cloud to be
formed.
Materials and Methods For this experiment, all the materials

Executive Summary The attack performed on the network had the intention of making the online services provided to students unusable during a critical time of need for those systems. The attack was first performed by acquiring the Administrator password for the systems and using each system to perform a large quantity of requests for service to the web servers. By dissecting what occurred steps can be put in place to prevent such an attack in the future. These programs detect when keystroke input is being directed to another location besides the currently targeted window. Most programs will send an alert when such activity is detected providing a means for early detection and removal before sensitive data is obtained. For the actual attack that took place there are changes that need to be performed on both the client s side as well as the server s side. These changes involve limiting the quantities of request either side can make. For the client s I would recommend a firewall placed between them and the server which would be configured to limit the amount of requests to be made to any outside source and either notify and administrator or outright blocking additional requests beyond the threshold. The same implementation should be made for the server as well. In the server s case the firewall placed between it and any client should limit the quantity of connection from a source IP. The unfortunate side of this, and why the client firewall be implemented, is that many clients can be located behind one source IP address. This means that the server s firewall configuration needs to be more lenient the the client firewall. In addition to adding a firewall, the server itself should only allow a certain amount of it s CPU, memory, and available bandwidth to processing these requests. The reason for this is that the remaining resource availability allows for an administrator to gain access and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Solving Optimization Problems Involving Polynomial Blendeman 2C Expectation: 2.4 solve optimization problems involving polynomial, simple rational, and exponential functions drawn from a variety of applications, including those arising from real world situations. 2.5 solve problems arising from real world applications by applying a mathematical model and the concepts and procedures associated with the derivative to determine mathematical results, and interpret and communicate the results. Concept: For these expectations students need to take their prior knowledge of derivatives and apply that knowledge to real world application problems. Students may be faced with a problem and then have to decode what that problem is asking them to do. From the information that they are given they would have to create and apply a mathematical model that will allow them to solve the problem. Example: A farmer has 2400 ft of fencing and wants to fence off a rectangular field that borders a straight river. He needs no fencing along the river. What are the dimensions of the field that has the largest area? This example gives students an idea of how the concepts that they are learning in the course can be applied to real world situations. The problem does not provide the students with the needed mathematical model, but gives them all the needed information to create a model that will help them solve the problems. Students have to recognize that this is an optimization question dealing with maximizing an area. Struggling Learners: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. How Does Gray Matter Effects Schizophrenia And Bipolar... Gray matter, an important constituent of central nervous system includes regions of the brain involved in sensory perception that includes vision, hearing, memory, emotions, speech, executive functions like decision making and self control. Gray matter has been a focus of clinical attention and research as it has been consistently involved in studies to better understand brain pathology, pathophysiology and neurobiology in schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Many meta analytical reviews in structural neuroimaging studies have persistently shown abnormalities in schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Using anatomical likelihood estimation (ALE), a meta analyses of forty two studies demonstrated extensive gray matter deficits in frontal, temporal, cingulate and insular cortex and thalamus in schizophrenia (SZ) when compared to healthy controls. Similarly the same meta analyses of fourteen studies showed gray matter reductions in anterior cingulate and bilateral insula in bipolar disorder (BD) when compared to healthy controls (Ellison Wright I and Bullmore E, 2010). However the regions of grey matter reduction were less extensive in bipolar than schizophrenia. Another recent meta analyses conducted using revised ALE showed consistent gray matter decreases in patients (SZ, BD) in bilateral anterior insula, dorsal anterior cingulate (dACC), dorso/ventro medial prefrontal cortex, thalamus, amygdala, hippocampus, superior temporal gyrus along with gray matter increases in ... • 7. Significance Of The Second Nun Essay Part one: The Pilgrim In order to understand the significance of the second nun we must first look at the duties and life of a traditional medieval nun. Medieval nuns and priests were expected to live a very devout and highly moral life. Medieval nuns and priests must be fully dedicated to god and christian faith. The daily life of a medieval nun was formulated around three main vows established by St Benedict in 480 550 AD, The vow of Poverty, The vow of Chastity and the Vow of obedience. As dictated by these vows nuns and priests must live very modestly and renounce everything they own for use of the common good, remain chaste for their entire lives and must be obedient to god as well as their superiores. Medieval nun s and priests lived isolated from civilization in fully self sustained compounds know as covenants. Inside the covenant nun s and priest were expected to perform daily tasks such as: washing and cooking for the monastery, raising the necessary supplies of vegetables and grain, producing wine, ale and honey, providing medical care for the community, providing education for novices, spinning, weaving and embroidery, and Illuminating manuscripts. • 8. Reliability Of The Measurement Instrument Essay 4.3 Reliability analysis To evaluate the reliability of the measurement instrument it was developed an internal consistency analysis through Cronbach s alpha. It is an index that takes values between 0 and 1, used to verify if the instrument is reliable and performs stable and consistent measurements (Santesmases, 2009). Cronbach s alpha estimates the lower limit of the reliability coefficient and it is expressed through Formula 2. (2) Where k is the number of items in the test; Si2 is the items variance (from 1...i) and S2sum is the total test variance. This means that the reliability depends on the test length and the covariance among its items (Santesmases, 2009). It is important to mention that it was decided to apply a pilot test to 40 customers, with the purpose of measuring the questionnaire s internal consistency. In the first version, the test was integrated by 22 items distributed in five dimensions and after being undergone to Cronbach s alpha validity test, the instrument was redesigned to 20 items, as is shown in Graphic 4. • 9. Suicide in the Trenches- Analysis Suicide In The Trenches In my analysis, I will demonstrate how Siegfred Sassoon has used many different language techniques to show his perspective on the true meaning of war. For example, the poet has used simplistic diction that creates an image of the destruction of a simple soldier boy . At first we see him whistling, this then degrades to depression which lead him to committing suicide. Siegfred Sassoon concludes his poem with anger and a powerful message. Sneak home and pray you ll never know emphasizes that those who aren t soldiers have to sneak home and pray to show their empathy for the soldiers. In the last line it implies the fact that the crowd doesn t have to go through the hell where youth and laughter go . ... However, in the end, he was pushed to his limit and no one spoke of him again . This shows how cruel and selfish war is. The boy had sacrificed his childhood fun, laughter and playful life in for nothing to return. This is effective because it makes the reader think about why is there war and why are there innocent lives at risk which creates the bitter mood. The diction used in the poem sends the reader a clear message about war. In the last stanza, the word kindling is being used to describe the eyes of the smug faced crowds . Kindling is used to describe the facial description which shows that it is a very shallow expression feature that expresses the lack of empathy shown to the young men. However, Siegfried tries to show with a sarcastic tone that they think war is a glorious thing; they feel proud of the children risking their lives with nothing in return and seem to understand and appreciate what they are doing. But in reality the public cannot imagine what these children are going through. This is how the word kindling reveals a shallow side of everyone s personality. In my personal opinion, the last stanza is the strongest and most impactful stanza. While the previous two stanzas shows the transformation of the boy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The fundamentalists became visible again in the last third of the 20th century, reacting against the liberal trends in major Protestant churches. Catholicism The fundamentalist movement in the Catholic Church has not been significant. The infallibility of the Bible is not a dogma for Catholics, thus offering little ground for fundamentalism. Catholicism allows some leeway for developing dogma (John Henry Newman ) as well as for the importance of tradition and, in contrast to the fundamentalists, it does not consider the Bible to be the only authority. Catholic movements today emphasize the conservative pontifical documents from the last few centuries and are wary of the more moderate decrees of Vatican II (Monsignor Lefèbvre s anti Vatican II movement in France is a vivid example). These movements did not draw undue attention from the hierarchy , but they did influence certain informal developers of fundamentalism among some Catholics. Some such influences came from relations with Protestants such as through charismatic movements that crossed denominational borders. • 11. To Kill or Let Die To kill or to let die What would you choose? You are standing on a platform at a train station. An out of control train carriage is coming down the track past the platform, there are three workers repairing the same track further down the line. They don t have time to get out of the way of the carriage, the only way to save them would be to push the very large person next to you down the track, the person s body will act to halt the train thus killing him but saving the three workers. A swift decision has to be made, if I was in this situation I would choose to stand by and watch, letting the three people die, because I believe it s better to be blamed for indirect killing rather than directly have blood on my hands. I would let nature take its course. Good arguments exist for both pushing the person onto the tracks and for not pushing them. The argument for not pushing the large person is from the no harm principle which says that an action is permissible if and only if it does not harm others. Since pushing the person next to me onto the tracks below will kill them, and so harm them, the no harm principle appears to say that the act of pushing them is not permissible. Since the act is not permissible, I should not therefore push them. On the other hand, the argument for pushing comes from the minimize harm principle which says that faced with two courses of action, you should choose that action which minimizes the amount of harm that results. Road to Reform Nightingale s reform and career as a nurse really took off in 1954 when she began working at British hospitals during the Crimean War (Tunstall, 2016). The bandages used for the patents were unsanitary, the water was rancid, and the food was repulsive (Florence, 2016). The hospital itself was filled with rats and flees (Cohen, 1984). • 15. How Does Temperature Affect The Rate Of Reaction Experiment From the results that were collect throughout the experimental investigation has proved the hypothesis to only be partially right. Multiple tests were made when conducting the experiment, two clear solutions were combined at various temperatures and concentrations. The hypothesis states that by adjusting the concentration of the reactants will cause the reaction to either speed up at a higher concentration or slow down at a lower concentration. In the reaction temperature should have a similar effect on the experiment, in that increasing the temperature will cause an increase of particle movement and cause more collision, thus increasing the reaction rate. Therefore decreasing the temperature will decrease the rate of the reaction. From the results given in Tables 2 and 3 it shown that every time the concentration is halved the time is increased. When the concentrations of both KIO3 and NaHSO3 are decreased the time has increased, some concentrations having a higher increase than others. In each concentration decrease the time is at least doubled from the previous concentration time, which is therefore increasing the rate of the reaction. Although unlike the change in concentration, when the temperature of the reactants were either increased or decreased their was no significant change. As shown in table 4. When the temperature was either increased or decreased to 10°C, 30°C, 40°C and 50°C the average times are all within one second of each other. Except for when the reactants were cooled to a further 5°C the reaction time was increased by more than double the reaction time. This showing that the results from the investigation did not fully support the stated hypothesis. The standard rate law for the Iodine Clock reaction, is a first order reaction for KIO3 and a second order reaction for NaHSO3. To determine this you must substitute the values into the equations and whichever produces a straight line graph determines whether it is a first or second order reaction. In graph 1. It shows that KIO3 is a second order reaction, this is due to the second order reaction graph being straighter than the first order graph. This meaning the reaction proceeds at a rate proportional to the square of the concentration, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Abstract This experiment was performed to assess the efficacy of genetic transformations on bacteria via plasmid DNA coding for ampicillin resistance and green fluorescent protein. Genetic transformation was studied by taking transformed and untransformed Escherichia Coli (E. coli) and placing them on various media to observe gene expression via growth and color under UV light. The transformed E. coli were able to grow on ampicillin while the untransformed E. coli, which lacked the plasmid genes for ampicillin resistance, only grew on nutrient broth. In the presence of arabinose, the transformed E. coli glowed green. These results support the previous scientific understanding of bacterial competency, vectors, and gene expression and support gene transformations as an effective method to transfer the desirable DNA of one organism into another organism s DNA. These results can be applied to real world issues such as medical treatments, food production, and environmental conservation. Introduction Genetic engineering is used in health treatments, agricultural applications, and environmental solutions. Genetic transformations incorporate foreign genetic material into the DNA of a different organism via a vector, which carries the genetic material. The topic that has been at the forefront of debate deals with obscene materials. This is a heated topic because the definition of obscenity is very vague and subject to interpretation. What is considered to be obscene can be viewed very differently depending on ones personal morals, beliefs, and values. For example, a parent who is highly religious and living in the United States may view nudity on cable television as obscene and pornographic for their child to view, while a person with the same religious beliefs living in Europe or another part of the world may just view this as art or entertainment. This is due to the difference in societal views on obscenity. To get to the root of what is considered obscene, a test for judging obscene material was set in the case of Miller v. California. • 28. Criminal Behavior And The Justice System Essay Incarceration rates are extremely costly and the rates of incarceration are alarmingly high in the United States. Individuals engage in criminal behaviors for many reasons. Although the reasons are numerous and vary, the justice system has attempted to narrow down the causes of criminal behavior. The justice system has also put into place specialty courts that are designed to better address these particular causes of criminal behavior. The goal of these courts is to better address the individual s reason that they engaged in criminal behavior in hopes that with the additional support, in the future the individual will become a productive member of society. What are specialty Courts? Specialty courts are becoming more and more popular throughout the country. Specialty courts are also commonly referred to as problem solving courts. These courts mainly focus on a specific type of criminal offense or a cause of a criminal offense. Specialty courts differ from the traditional court system. Traditional court systems are not always equipped to effectively deal with certain needs of the offenders that they come into contact with. Specialty courts are set up to help better address certain issues and are able to provide options that are specific to the offender s needs. In addition, specialty courts tend to take on less severe cases, which also help decongest the traditional system. Specialty courts usually have staff that specialize and are trained on the specific type of court ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Film Analysis Of Elmer Rice s The Adding Machine Elmer Rice s production, The Adding Machine, portrays the story of Mr. Zero, an accountant, who has recently been fired from his position as a bookkeeper after nearly twenty five years of consecutive work. As a result of being replaced, an angry Mr. Zero murders his boss, Mr. Smith, and thus begins the execution process in which Mr. Zero is transported to a heaven like state where he meets Shrdlu and is then reincarnated to begin a new life. This overall minimalistic aesthetic was evident in every aspect of the performance and emphasized the idea of uniformity and conformity that was present in American society during this time period. The cast was composed of fifteen actors, in which some of the actors performed multiple characters such as Ayla Sullivan who portrayed Daisy and Mrs. Seven or Brendan Lynch who took on the role of Shrdlu and Mr. Four. Each performer delivered dialogue with an intense conviction and sharpness. This intensity was only magnified when the ensemble delivered their lines together loudly and articulately. The choreography was also synchronized and intricately placed to symbolize how a machine functions and reinforce this idea of a mechanized, industrial society that has robbed each worker of their humanity, more explicitly their individualistic personalities. Although there were several characters present, the absence of individualism was further depicted through the sequenced names of Zero, One, Two Three, Four, Five, Six in ascending order, the homogenous clothing, and the expressionless, serious countenance each character possessed. Hester Prynne Heroism One of the most enduring conflicts concerning Nathaniel Hawthorne s novel The Scarlet Letter is over whose story is primarily being told: Hester Prynne s or Arthur Dimmesdale s. Hester s feminine heroism tends to domineer the novel in contrast to the distraught clergyman, so often at a loss in the complexities of human existence. Hawthorne illustrates Dimmesdale s relentless strive towards immortality brought on by the strict repression of Puritan society, all the while maintaining the transcendental impression that protests his irrational means of coping with guilt. Hawthorne establishes Hester Prynne as the immediate heroine of the novel, but as one observes the story of Arthur Dimmesdale unfold, it becomes clearer that his struggle is that ... The number of fans increased, which created the need for new stadiums and raised the salary for sports stars. Sports in the 1920s went through many changes in the time period known as the Roaring Twenties. New heroes, new teams, and new leagues were emerging in sports. Some sports were just starting, some were broadening their horizons, while others were just becoming more popular. The media helped to make sports become more popular in the 1920s. Movie houses showed videos of sports contests, which helped create stars. Newspapers and magazines gave the sports reporter a new authority as the media brought information about athletes and athletics to large audiences. Radio broadcasts of college football and professional baseball began early in the 1920s. The media supplied news but also manufactured it and, in the process, created and satisfied an eager audience. The decade was the Golden Age of Sports . The 1920s were a starting foundation for football. The most popular league, the NFL, was formed in the 1920s. On August 20, 1920, the owner of four Ohio league teams met to form a new professional league. • 33. A Research On European Banking Regulations And Their... The following paper attempts to address the need for future research as mentioned in part A. European Banks are not required to hold a capital buffer against the sovereign debt holding of any European state, regardless of the risk involved. As a result European governments had issued excessive debt, taking advantage of a sovereign subsidy of other EU member states in the form of the 0 risk weight for their MFI. If such a risk finally materialises, MFI will be left undercapitalised because they do not hold a capital buffer for their sovereign exposure. Therefore 0 risk represents a channel, through which sovereign risk can extend to any EU member state. Thus, the focus of the paper is to develop a new measure that quantifies the banks risk ... I simply chose these series of questions due to the fact that I ve had all of the Freud I could possibly take for one semester. All the questions I ve selected are involving Carl Jung and not Sigmund Freud. To begin with my essay let s start with question number five which asks to explain Jung s notion of collective unconscious . I very strongly believe that Jung s concept of collective unconscious is mainly based on his personal experiences with people who suffer from schizophrenia which he gained form when he worked with them at the Burgholzli hospital. At first Jung chose to follow the Freudian theory of unconscious, but later on Jung eventually chose to go down his own path and decided to develop his own theory on unconscious which would feature totally new concepts. Most importantly being the archetype. Archetypes constitute the structure of the collective unconscious, which are the psychic innate dispositions to experience and represent the basic human behavior and situations. Chemical Insecticides Or Utilitarianism Chemical Insecticides or Utilitarianism Harmful chemicals have been used throughout time to kill off insects and various plagues that have been considered harmful to the environment. Many have questioned how helpful they really are to our environment. Pesticides, herbicides, and insecticides have proven to be more detrimental to humans, plants, and animals than was ever expected. The use these chemicals has proven to be more costly than beneficial. The use of chemicals has failed to take many ethical values into consideration. One that I will discuss today is the ethic of Utilitarianism. Utilitarianism s claim the purpose of morality is to make the world a better place (Ethics S14). If utilitarianism was practiced more than we wouldn t have such a big problem with the use of chemical pesticides. I will start by stating a crucial fact that has changes the life of nature as it was once known. Since the mid 1940 s over 200 basic chemicals have been created for the use in killing insects, weeds, rodents, and other organisms (Carson 43). The use of these chemicals have spread quickly. One of these chemical pesticides is dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane, better known as DDT. DDT was first discovered in 1874 and used during WWII, to kill lice. After being used during the war it began to be used in the agricultural world as an insecticide. The Perfect Beauty A certain individual may establish beauty merely by what is viewed upon the naked eye, yet someone else can measure beauty by using more fundamental qualities, such as good morals and ideas, which lie beneath one s surface. This is a topic of discussion that leaves many to ask the question, what is the true meaning of beauty? There are two prominent sonnets, which relate to the principles of true beauty; Petrarch s Gli Occhi Oi Ch Io Paralai and Sonnet 130 by William Shakespeare. These sonnets do nothing less, but use imagery to define the bountiful amount of beauty and how much love they possess for an individual. Gli Occhi Oi Ch Io Paralai, represents the true beauty love has by its use of excessive descriptions and tone. Sonnet 130 proves that beauty is not measured by idealistic, regal measures, but rather proposes beauty is average and nothing out of the ordinary. For each sonnet effectively describes its interpretations on the joys of beauty and love. Gli Occhi Di Ch Io Parlai praises the artificial traits of beauty and love. Petrarch often put women on pedestals and describes them with hyperbolic language. His sonnet, Gli Occhi Di Ch Io Parlai, is no exception to his trend. The speaker starts off the sonnet by recounting the feeling he gets when around his love. The speaker says when their eyes meet his passionate rapture rose (1). It probably goes back as far in time as practice of cannibalism, where victims had to wait for their turn in contributing to the chief course in the menu of their captors. Examples of prisons can even be found in the Old Testament when Joseph was incarcerated in Egypt. It was not until the 19th century that a clear shift occurred from corporal punishment to imprisonment. • 47. The Effect Of Atmospheric Pressure On A Cloud This experiment will be highlighting the significance of atmospheric pressure in a cloud`s formation. Clouds form when warm, moist air rises in the atmosphere. On its way up, it cools so that the water vapor condenses into small particles such as airborne dust, thereby forming water droplets. This is exactly what a cloud is, a large collection of very tiny droplets of water or ice crystals. This process is known as cloud formation and is affected by temperature since clouds are occasionally produced by the mixing of warmer and cooler air currents. This process is part of the water cycle which is the transfer of water from air, sea land and water in a cycle. Overall, this paper will be explaining the materials and methods that will end up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If a cloud is water vapor, and vapor has weight, why does it float in the air? Well, according to columnist Adams, a modest size cloud, has a mass equivalent to one B 747 jumbo jet, but the cloud`s mass is spread over a big volume of space which causes the density of it to be relatively low. Furthermore, the process of condensation is essential to the water cycle since it is responsible for the formation of a cloud which creates precipitation that allows water to return to the planet`s surface, thus letting the cycle to continue. In order to form a cloud, there are three requirements which, according to Oklahoma Project, are essential. First, water vapor must be present in large amounts. Secondly, cloud condensation nuclei such as dust or salt particles must be present in order to provide a basement for water to condense. Lastly, a cooling mechanism must be present to cool the air temperature to a certain point, allowing clouds to form. Based on all these information, my specific question that I hope this experiment answers is: What role does air pressure as well as temperature plays on the biological process known as cloud condensation? My hypothesis consists of understanding these factors. If water vapor attaches to particles such as smoke, together with a specific temperature, then the process of condensation will allow a cloud to be formed.
