8. TECHNOLOGY IS RUINING SOCIAL
INTERACTIONS
The day the cell phone was introduced to the
public was the day people stopped visiting their
parents, siblings, and friends, as they now could
call them on their personal phone instead.
Currently, people prefer to text their friends than
call them on their phones.
People are spending more time on social media
websites than they are interacting with other
people (Tate, 2011).
9. TECHNOLOGY IS SHAPING
OUR CHILDREN’S INTERESTS
Technology determines what is current, what is “old”,
and ultimately, what our children are interested in
(“Will Technology Destroy Mankind”, 2007).
Children feel pressured by others to have the latest
piece of technology, and not to be caught having a
dated cell phone or MP3 player.
Many cases of bullying can result from issues
surrounding technology. For example, a student
being bulled for his interest in a certain video game.
10. TECHNOLOGY IS STEALING OUR JOBS
With one of the most significant financial depressions
occurring recently in the United States, it’s apparent that
jobs are quickly disappearing from people of society.
Why? One of the largest contributors to the loss of jobs in
North America, is due to the increase in technology.
People are loosing their jobs to machines, as machines
are a more economically viable solution for large
companies, as people cost more to employ than
machines, who basically do the same work (Boyle, 2010).
For example, Service Jobs, like cashiers, are being fired
due to the installation of self-serve cash register
machines that do not require an attendant.
11. TECHNOLOGY IS AFFECTING LITERACY
SKILLS
Along the same lines, the
use of the cell phone is
certainly affecting current
and future population’s
literacy skills.
“By 2008, over 4 trillion text
messages were being sent
every year” (Holloway, n.d.).
People begin to apply their
“text messaging slang” (ex.
cuz for because, or wat
instead of what) to their
everyday lives, effectively
ruining their spelling skills
(Holloway, n.d.).
12. TECHNOLOGY IS DESTROYING OUR
ENVIRONMENT
It’s no question that mankind’s interest in
advancing technology has had its effects on our
environment.
Our precious vehicles that we rely on each day,
are polluting the air we breathe, destroying our
much-needed ozone layer, and putting millions
of toxic chemicals into our environment,
affecting humans, animals, plants, and all living
things on our planet (Gallicia,2011).
13. TECHNOLOGY IN THE ENVIRONMENT
Instead of fantasizing
about a robot invasion, I
have decided to treat
this as an
environmental/social
question.
Will technology and
our dependence on it
destroy our home, or
will technology
14. TECHNOLOGY
I find it hard to answer this
question because technology
cannot be referred to as an entity
nor can blame be associated to
something that is the
collaboration of our efforts as
people.
Whoever is to blame,
technologies’ exist today that
threaten our planet.
15. TECHNOLOGY BOOM
With unmatched intelligence, people have
wielded this knowledge to develop
technologies to cater to all of our desires.
Technological development is increasing
exponentially.
Resource extraction and pollution are
increasing with it.
Investigations into environmental impact
weren’t thought about much until the late 20th
century.
Dependence on technology is double
edged sword that may be our destruction
in the end.
16. A SMART GUYS OPINION
“It has become appallingly obvious that
our technology has exceeded our
humanity.”
Albert Einstein.
I liked this quote because it refers to
the Atom bomb as out of our grasp.
Humanity is too irresponsible to
manage emerging technologies
effectively and cannot be trusted with
power so infinite.
17. TECHNOLOGIES TO WATCH
The widespread use of
pesticides and pharmaceutical
products is considered essential
for agricultural, industrial and
domestic use.
These products were developed
to protect public health and the
agriculture and livestock
sectors.
Numerous studies show the
negative effects on the
environment and on human
health.
18. SILENT SPRING
“It is ironic to think that man might determine
his own future by something so seemingly
unimportant as the choice of an insect spray.”
Rachel Carson, Silent Spring.
Rachel Carson on the effects of DDT and the
ignorance of man to its toxicity.
19. WE’RE IN A TOXIC WORLD
Lead commonly used in gasoline, pipes and paint
was a great idea until the toxicity of lead to the
environment and human health was made public.
Once widely used substances such as asbestos
and heavy metals have also been phased out of
manufacturing processes due to toxic effects that
have killed many and hurt the natural environment.
20. THE OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY
The coal and gas industry
contributes a staggering
amount to greenhouse gas
emissions globally.
As the primary source of
energy production since the
industrial revolution, man’s
dependence on fossil fuel is
almost unbreakable.
Global warming as well as
habitat destruction is a very
real and deadly prospect for
our world.
21. WEAPONS
The defense industry is the
subject of incredible amounts of
technology spending worldwide.
Military inventions like GPS
have benefitted society a lot.
Inventions like the Atomic Bomb
keep the planet in constant
threat of destruction.
22. J. ROBERT OPPENHEIMER
“I am become death, the destroyer of worlds.”
J. Robert Oppenheimer, quoted from Bhagavad Gita.
This quote is significant because it happened at a
pivotal time in our history.
The first atomic bomb (invented by Oppenheimer) had
just been tested in Nevada.
The phrase basically describes and fears a new power
which is open to misuse.
23. TECHNOLOGY IS IN OUR HANDS
“The world is very different now. For man holds in his mortal
hands the power to abolish all forms of human poverty, and all
forms of human life.”
John F. Kennedy.
I liked this quote because even in the early 1960s, it could be
seen that technology provided great economic and social
benefits but could also destroy us if not properly managed.
Technology is our inventions to do with them what we will.
How can we allow technology to destroy us when it is just an
extension of our efforts and ideas.
More true than ever in Kennedy’s time, the world was naïve
to the consequences on rapid technological advance.
24. TECHNOLOGY IS IN OUR HANDS
“Technology is just a tool. In terms of getting the kids
working together and motivating them, the teacher is
the most important.”
Bill Gates.
Enforces the idea that it is not technology that must
be crucified or reformed for its bad behavior, it is the
mentality of the people that must be changed and it
starts with education and awareness.
25. WILL TECHNOLOGY SAVE US
Governments are beginning to
promote this change.
Incentives awarded for investment into
Green Energy
Tougher pollution laws and the
restriction of harmful chemicals
Education and awareness programs
are the best way to inform this and
future generations about sustainable
living.
26. SOCIETY SHIFT
I am glad that world powers are
beginning to understand the
challenges ahead of our civilization.
Throughout the 20th century, smart
men like Einstein, Gates,
Oppenheimer and Kennedy saw the
destructive power in technology and
warned of its misuse by a society
blinded by progress.
27. Surely these things are positive though
them affects on our lives on bad way in
some ways…
Without the technology
-we wouldn’t be able to talk friends ,
family who are away
- we wouldn’t be able to stay updated
with the world
but….
Yes !!! its possitive
28. NEGATIVE THINGS HAPPEN…
With the development of mobile phones
SOCIAL NETWORKS are coming in to
your palm & people get addicted to it.
Consider this
- you are sitting at a restaurant table
with 5 friends and each of you put your
face down hold your smarts phones and
check emails or update social status,
Even with google glass (which is less
distracting) you STILL ignore others
29.
30.
31. JUST THINK…
When you listened to the ,
Singing of the birds for last time ?
When you ,
Read a book (Novel, Short story) for last time ?
When you
Had you time together with your family members
?
But surely more than that you may have sat infront of
PCs LAPTOPS to make yourself fill with ARTIFICIAL
SATISFACTION
32. OR YOU MAY DO…
But, sitting infront of a COMPUTER holding a
SMARTPHONE or a TAB at your palms
It does take a toll on our health…. &
We end up having ,
- Poor eating habits
- Obesity
- Back pain
- Vision problems
- even some unexplained disorders
34. LOOK AROUND YOU..
World is far worse than you saw it for the last
time…..
Still you have the time to surf the world rather
than the CYBER SPACE
Go on ….
BECAUSE…..
35.
36. USE TECHNOLOGY
With ,
Control
Limits
Tech gadgets are here to
Help us
Serve us
Not the other way around
37. CONCLUSION
The dependence we share for everyday
technology is immense. Our dependence drives
our choices and therefor society is also driven
largely by what we are dependent on.
With our thirst for oil and love of manufacturing it
is almost impossible to choose technologies that
are cleaner.
If society is able to make a lifestyle change, we
can turn technology into our savior instead of our
demise.
