Dear White People Film Analysis
In 1964, the Civil Rights Act was enacted by the 88th United States Congress, outlawing any
discrimination in the United States. With the Civil Rights Act, and the election America s first Black
president Barack Obama, in 2008, America was gradually becoming a post racial society after a long
history of racism that dates back to the 17th century. History, in conjunction with current events,
exposes how America, the land of the free and the home of the brave is nowhere near a post racial
society because of white privilege, a broken system, and a new form of slavery; all created by the
majority of the United States. The white population of the United States is 62.6% of the nation s total
population, therefore we are part of a nation that is controlled by white people. Because they make up
a big percentage of this nation, they control the system and institutions, and set it up in a way that only
they get to benefit from. People of color, make up part of what is called the minority or the problem of
America. In comparison to a white person, people of color are not granted the same opportunities or
advantages, even when they meet the qualifications to certain things. In the film Dear White People,
directed by Justin Simien, Dean Fairbanks in a conversation with his son Troy said Fletcher and I
graduated a year apart. He barely made it through. I graduated Summa Cum Laude. Now look who s
President and who s Dean. Dean Fairbanks was much more qualified and had a better

How Yoga Can Help Relieve The Stress That College Students
One would be hard pressed to find a college student who does not deal with high levels of stress.
According to the American College Health Association s annual assessment last year, approximately
53% of college students reported experiencing above average levels of stress (ACHA). What s more,
30% of those students said stress had a significant negative impact on their academic performance
(ACHA). Unfortunately, attending college requires students to take on unavoidably stressful
situations, such as paying for tuition and living expenses, rigorous coursework, and other social and
family related obligations. Since the sources of stress cannot be eliminated for the most part, the best
way to students to successfully navigate their college education is to learn methods for stress
management. One of these methods is to practice yoga. In this paper, I hope to demonstrate how yoga
can help relieve the stress that college students experience by explaining the physical and mental
benefits of developing a yoga practice. In addition, I will address the limitations that college students
in the United States may face when getting involved with yoga, and in turn offer solutions to these
limitations. First, I will give a brief overview of the history of yoga and explain what it is. The word
yoga means to unite or connect. It is a spiritual practice and system of discipline that originated in
India approximately five thousand years ago. Although it is most commonly tied to the religion

Roles Of Race In Criminalization
The concept of race is an idea that has been socially and historically created. However, as we look
closer into race and the role race plays in society, one realizes that education and wealth are unable to
provide safety from the consequences of being part of an unfavored racial group. In terms of crime in
America, the role of race has been implemented to harm people of color, especially those that are
African American. An African American and a white person, can commit the same crime, and yet
experience the consequences differently.
The role of race in criminalization can be examined through the case of the Central Park Five. A group
of five young African Americans and Latino boys were accused and convicted of raping a white
business woman.

Essay on The Fall of the Second Temple
Throughout the history of Judaism, Jewish people have faced ongoing persecution and discrimination.
Despite these conflicts, the faith remains alive, strong, and continuously growing. Like many religions
faced with adversity, Judaism has had to assimilate its faith to survive in an ever changing world. One
significant moment of change in the Jewish history, the fall of the Second Temple, had the opportunity
to destroy Judaism, but the Jewish people bonded together and reformulated their religion in order to
save their faith. The falling of the Second Temple marks a distinct change in the Jewish faith through
the modification of ritual practices to accommodate their new mobile lifestyle. This change would
forever impact the Jewish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once a faith centered on priesthood, sacrificial rituals, communal gatherings and oral traditions, the
people of the Jewish religion decided to restructure the faith around written scripture. Although it is
argued that rabbis began work on compiling the oral histories prior to the fall of the Second Temple,
there was a marked resurgence in documentation of the important history and moral laws of Judaism
after the fall (Molloy, 291). The Jewish people felt a sense of urgency to finish the written works.
They believed the incorporation of written word into Judaism would help to solidify their place in the
religious world, as well as make the faith easier to correctly interpret among their own vastly
dispersed people (BBC, 2009).
The most important of these written documents is the Hebrew Bible. This bible is composed of the
Torah, Nevi im and Ketuvim, and these three components combine to make up the Tanakh (Simmons,
83). The Torah is the core of the Hebrew Bible and contains the story of creation, as well as directions
on daily conduct and religious rituals. The Nevi im contains the stories of prophets. The prophets were
people who spoke on behalf of God to the Jewish people. Lastly, the Ketuvim is composed of mostly
imaginative literature such as psalms, proverbs and poetry (Molloy, 294). Shifting the focal point from

How Did Michelangelo Di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni
Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni was born in 1475 and he lived till eighty nine years old
in 1564. He is a sculptor, painter and architect, although he expressed his artistry in many media, but
he would always consider himself a sculptor first. [1] Michelangelo s mother died when he was six,
despite his father initially didn t support his interest in art, yet when Michelangelo was thirteen, he
sent him to learn from painter Domenico Ghirlandaio. His talent was discovered by Lorenzo de
Medici, who invited Michelangelo to Humanist academy, and in there he was inspired by the scholars
and writers in Lorenzo s intellectual circle. [2] In there, he was greatly influenced by palatial artworks
and formed neo platonic philosophic ideal. However, in 1494 Michelangelo was banished from

[3] Despite that he created numerous masterpieces, his works demonstrated high level of skills and
innovative content. His style that formed in Florence was exposed to Classical art and humanist
thought. For instance, the paintings on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, Michelangelo painted the
scenes in reverse chronological order, and the complexity of figures presents a relaxed and relived
mood. Besides, he emphasized the power inherited in the human body, especially torso. David is a
example in this case, it represented a state of relaxation and tension, and its proportion is corresponded
more to Hellenistic style than Classical Style. His muscular figures are rendered in exaggerated
contrapposto, which are one of the most monumental images in Western art. [4] On the other hand,
Michelangelo s late style revealed the pressure of patronage on artists during the renaissance. His
anxiety about completing the sculptures is revealed in his work of sculptures and paintings. Many
scholars consider his late style as a mark of the close of renaissance and as part of new Mannerist
development.

Civilian Conservation Corps and the Great Depression Essay
Civilian Conservation Corps and the Great Depression
Our greatest task is to put people to work. This is no unsolvable problem if we face it wisely and
courageously. It can be accomplished in part by direct recruiting by the government itself, treating the
task as we would threat the emergency of war, but at the same time, through this employment,
accomplishing greatly needed projects to stimulate and recognize the use of our national resources.
Franklin D. Roosevelt
March 4, 1933 Franklin Delano Roosevelt indeed turned the lives of many young male Americans

We can eliminate to some extent at least the threat that enforced idleness brings to spiritual and moral
stability, in his message to Congress. On March 31, 1933 Roosevelt signed the bill into law and just
six days later, the CCC was formed. His ultimate goal was to have 250,000 men in the forest in just
three short months. (www.sos...) The CCC administration consisted of a director, Robert Fechner, and
an advisory board of representatives from the Departments of War, Agriculture, Interior, and Labor.
With the help of local boards, the Department of Labor selected the enrollees. The War Department
housed, clothed, and fed the men, and organized and administered the camps. The Department of
Agriculture and Interior planned the work projects. (Smith)

Examples Of Tension In An Inspector Calls
Pick out three key moments in the first two acts of An Inspector Calls and analyze how Priestly
controls tension and suspense.
In An Inspector Calls Priestley manipulates tension and suspense to give us insight on his political and
social views (eg. the class system). He builds up tension and suspense during the course of the acts
ending with a cliffhanger, leaving the audience curious and guessing as to what would happen next.
For example, the Inspector s entrance where Priestley creates tension by using lighting. The lighting
initially pink and intimate , possibly conveying the idea of the Birlings and Gerald looking at life
through rose tinted glasses. They are shown to be idealistic near the start of the play, ignoring the
cracks in Gerald and Sheila s relationship ( except for all last summer, when you never came near me )
but the light becomes harsh right before the Inspector enters, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Before this, she is shown as a docile submissive girl ( I m sorry, Daddy ) and the change would come
across as a great shock to the audience. Sheila interrupts Gerald when he says Now listen darling
which makes the audience understand the gravity of the situation. Sheila s argumentative tone which
is juxtaposed with Gerald s silence ( He does not reply ) builds an ominous mood and elevates Sheila s
anger. The argument ends before we are given substantial information, leaving us with incomplete
information and wanting to know more.
The stage direction of The door slowly opens , a metaphor for the Inspector slowly exposing each
piece of the information increases the levels of suspense in the room leaving the audience to think
about what has just happened. The Well? by the Inspector is short and simple, a contrast to the
argument between Gerald and Sheila. The rhetorical question the Inspector asks is what Priestley
wants the audience to think as well as the act ends with a

The Importance Of Mouthing The Word Nigger
In the world we live in today even mouthing the word nigger can silence a room. Why is that? Why
does a word that has changed its definition drastically over hundreds of years still have people
reluctant to use or acknowledge it? Many would debate its derogatory demeanor, its context , and its
user to judge its use to be socially acceptable or morally disgusting. When can this slur be used? When
is it acceptable and when is it out of line?
To comprehend why this is such a touchy subject; first the origin of this word and how it got
popularized has to be understood. Nigger became an everyday word in the 1800 s during slavery. The
epithet was used to describe an African American slave. It was used to degrade Blacks and to

Schizophrenia And Its Effects On Mental Illness
Schizophrenia is a serious mental disorder characterised by severe disruptions in psychological
functioning and a loss of contact with reality (Meldrum Wilson, 2009). The main question that arises
from the many studies looking at schizophrenia and violence is does schizophrenia itself make an
individual violent or are there other factors from the mental illness that contribute to this? According
to Fazel, Guati, Linsell, Geddes and Grahn (2009), before the 1980 s many people made no
connection between the disorder of schizophrenia and being violent. However, since more in depth
and large research studies has been carried out to look at this connection, it has now been proven that
there is a relationship between schizophrenia and violence.
Schizophrenia can either be interpreted as a unitary disorder with various sub types or as a disorder
where each sub type represents a distinct order. The DSM IV TR identifies four types of
schizophrenia: undiferential, catatonic, disorganised and paranoid (American Psychiatric Association,
2013). To be diagnosed with schizophrenia, two diagnostic criteria s have to be met within most of the
time in one month, and they must have an impact on the individual s occupational or social
functioning for at least six months. The individual could be suffering from delusions, hallucinations or
disorganized speech. Additional symptoms can include negative symptoms and severely disorganized
or cationic behaviour (American Psychiatric Association,

my family has become better from him, and also he just does so much for others before he worries
about himself. As a result he is a very nice person also because of how much he helps me and how
much he does for others. In conclusion my brother is a very caring person because he likes to help
others when they need it. Those are some reasons why he is caring, and is such a great person.
My brother is also a great role model because he is a humble and well minded person. What makes
him a humble person is when he does something good he doesn t brag about it and he stays cool with
it and never rubs it in my face. He doesn t like to brag because it is not a good thing and it could make
people not like you as much. Along with that he also doesn t like to be a mean person because he
thinks that is the wrong thing. He doesn t like to do mean things such as pushing me around, and
decking me onto the floor. Also he is humble because he cares about others more than himself. He

The Effects Of Single Parent Home Research
For several years, the focus of much single parent home research has been concentrated on households
where the father is not present. Due to the prevalent influence of various psychoanalytical theories,
and the enormous amounts of female headed households. Research shows that there are six general
effects bestowed upon children who live in single parent homes; regardless of the reason for the single
parent status. The six general effects are:
Loss of concentration or attention
Delinquency and substance abuse
Withdraw from family and friends
A decline in academic scores and behavioral issues at school, and at home
Emotional outbursts, and often an increase in health issues
Severe anger issues (Hurtes, 2004).
These are just the general effects on some children being raised in a single parent home. In addition to
these general effects, there are more age specific effects on some children who live in single parent
homes. The following is a brief summarization of some effects which children of different age ranges
may experience while living in a single parent home.
For children ages 3 5 years of age:
Regression to more infant like behavior
Feeling frightened, insecure, and angry
Children in Single Parent Homes 9
Some may experience nightmares, excessive or uncontrollable crying, and separation anxiety
Changes in their eating or sleeping habits.
For children ages 6 8 years of age:

African American Folk Music Research Paper
HOW AFRICAN AMERICAN SEGREGATION INFLUENCED SOUTHERN APPALACHIAN
FOLK MUSIC DURING THE GREAT DEPRESSION
John Hilderbrand
History 255: Race, Rock and Roll, and American History
April 29, 2016
Introduction Folk music was shaped and influenced by segregation during the Great Depression
between blacks and whites, which led to divergent forms of African American folk music in isolated
towns where black music could evolve from its African origins. Even before the Great Depression,
earlier African American music styles have influenced the folk music of southern Appalachia. The
banjo is one of the most important musical instruments playing in Appalachia folk music, and it is a
little known fact that this instrument was introduced by African Americans, as well as African work
songs and chants to this region.1 This paper will address how segregation between blacks and whites
have influenced folk music, if at all, and if racial tensions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some African Americans families settled in small towns which became predominantly black and poor.
This occurred throughout Appalachia, where blacks and whites tended to live in separate towns. When
black folk bands traveled to different festivals, they interacted with white folk artists and exchanged
musical methods weather they knew it or not. Some of the songs from African American folk artist
were adopted by white banjo players as early as 1830s such as Dan Emmett and Billy Whitlock, who
were part of a traveling minstrel show in Virginia according to historian George Gibson7. George
suggests that the blending of white and black music took place well before the minstrel performers
during the 1840s7. Which would allow for white folk artists to use their influence popularizing song
material that would have not gained much notice if it was kept within the confines of the black

Skin Whitening Stereotypes
1. In contrast to stereotypes that skin whitening is purely cosmetic, dermatologists actually prescribe
exfoliants to their patients for skin diseases.
In general, most people feel more confident with clear skin, even. For many, the battle with skin
disease can be a real obstacle that needs to be overcome to achieve this goal. That is why
dermatologists prescribe skin lightening medications to treat common ailments that lead to unevenness
or discoloration. Dr. Kassim explains, One of the most common reasons for patients to be prescribed
exfoliates is that treatment of postmenopausal phenomena can occur to anyone.
Spots that appear due to skin or inflammatory attacks such as acne may be blurred by using drugs for
affected areas. Melasma, the appearance of stains discolored on the face, usually Triggered by
hormonal changes during pregnancy and by sun exposure, also reacts well to skin exfoliation. In many
other cases, lightening the skin can even help reduce the sight of age spots, moles, litters and scars.
2. There is no bleach associated with skin lightening.
Exfoliants work by reducing a pigment called melanin. By using drugs for darker pigmented areas
parts of the body or face darker than others melanin production is interrupted allowing the skin to

of the development of exogenous lubricant infections, darkening of the skin for a long time and very

Essay on Buildings As An Underlying Cause of Global Warming
Introduction
Progressive deterioration of global warming and protection of environment are important areas of
interest for the whole world. Buildings as an underlying cause are responsible for global warming.
Edwards (1996) pointed out that building has a key role to play as they are one of the major sources of
energy consumption. And he (1996) also stated with some statistics to support this point that buildings
account for about half of all global energy, water, and raw materials as well as in the EU (Edwards,
1996, P. xiv). And another data is that buildings constitute about 45 per cent of carbon dioxide
emissions (John, 1998, P. xi). In addition, buildings should be accountable to most of land loss in
agriculture. But it does not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

considered. Finally, this paper also turn to highlight the relevant field in China and what availability
would suit for China, especially focus on what recommendations be suggested to local authorities in
order to guide the whole society to aware the importance of green building and accelerate the
development of this industry.
Definition of green building
As people known, to use renewable resource and to save energy or comfortable indoor environment is
far from the overall picture. Because construction mentioned above is an industry which include many
aspects such as land use and application of advanced technology, etc. Therefore if we want to define
what is green building we should recognize the whole industrial chain included each aspects and
unintended environment, social, economic, consequence brought possibly of complex activity. Kats
(2003) in his article stated that the sustainable or green building should deal with those key points:
environment, resource energy consumption, impact on people, financial impact and the world at large
which is a broader set of issues such as ground water recharge or global warming, as well
governmental policies are typically concerned about (Kats, 2003, P. 1). And another institute, Office of

Mr. Watts saying I will fuck you up the arse (161) and how skillful he was to reinterpret and recite his
version of Great Expectations so that children with basic or even below basic learning capabilities are
able to understand a complex story with a underlining theme. On the other hand, Dolores values the
elements of faith, religion and morals over all other. She is overzealous when situations are involving
these items and by acting this way, she gives off a negative ambiance which is contradicting the
overall image she is trying to create. Her faith and morals are tightly fabricated with her religion, how
things are viewed in her eyes as well as through the eyes of God. She is shaken by the efforts to instill
the belief of imagination over the belief of God in Matilda so she barges into the classroom a number
of times telling the children stories hopefully to rekindle the flame of the word of God. Now listen.

The Ninja s of ancient times would use whatever they could to camouflage themselves on their
various missions, themselves becoming the F 22 s of their time. They utilized color patterns that
would simply blend in with the background, becoming patches in the land the eye simply would not
focus on, and that is the basis of visual camouflage; to fool the enemy into thinking he sees nothing.
The next notable use of camouflage technology came on the bloody battlefields of World War One.
During this conflict, airplanes were first used to recon enemy positions. However, in the words of W.
I. Boucher, Once in the air or even on the ground, the first military aircraft stood out like sore thumbs
(WWIAviation.com). When the pilots mission is to scout the enemy position from the air and return
alive with the information, sticking out like a sore thumb is a bad idea, because it draws fire. To
counteract this, military planners and researchers on both sides of the conflict began researching ways
to make the aircraft disappear into the woodwork (WWIAviation.com). Britain was the first with any
measurable success. In 1813, researchers at the Royal Aircraft Factory settled on an at the time unique
pigment, one that not only afforded some protection from the sun for the somewhat fragile fabric, but
also had a color less noticeable then the conspicuous pale yellow that was traditional at the

Cinderella Stereotypes
All eyes are on Halloween costumes worn by kids and adults alike for the October 31 event. Year in
and year out, the holiday brings out ghoulish costumes of zombies, vampires, ghosts, witches, and
other macabre creatures.
However, some revelers opt to wear the clothes of movie or cartoon characters such as Captain Hook,
Belle or Aladdin. But some experts frown on princess costumes for little girls, Fortune reported.
Stereotype female behavior
The objection of Sarah Coyne, a family life professor at the Brigham Young University, is that the
more the children watched Disney movies with princess characters and played with princess products,
the more the girls likely were to display stereotype female behavior. It is manifested in the girls not
being confident in math and science. They also do not like getting dirty.
Coyne, who did a study on the behaviors of 198 pre schoolers, agrees with the observation of author
Peggy Orenstein, who wrote Cinderella Ate My Daughter. The 2011 book stated that the obsession of
young girls with princesses is unnatural. Orenstein said that it is the result of aggressive marketing
strategies of Disney.
Rebecca Hains, the assistant director of the Center for Childhood and Youth Studies at Salem
University, added that the Disney princess brand suggests that the most important asset of a girl is her
beauty. It will encourage her to have an unhealthy preoccupation with physical appearance. Another
implication of the brand is that she must be sweet

skin may appear on the genital area, such as the vulva or scrotum. Symptoms of this type of dermatitis
may be very intense and may come and go. Irritant contact dermatitis is usually more painful than
itchy. Although the symptoms of atopic dermatitis vary from person to person, the most common
symptoms are dry, itchy, red skin. Typical affected skin areas include the folds of the arms, the back of
the knees, wrists, face and hands. Less commonly there may be cracks behind the ears, and various
other rashes on any part of the body. Itching is the primary symptoms of this condition. Dermatitis
herpetiformis symptoms include itching, stinging and a burning sensation. Papules and vesicles are
commonly present. The small red bumps experienced in this type of dermatitis are usually about 1 cm
in size, red in color and may be found symmetrically grouped or distributed on

Comparing Women In Athens And Sparta
Women in Athens and Sparta were treated completely different. Women in Sparta were viewed more
equally, while the women in Athens were treated like slaves. Women in a Greek city/state known as
Athens, were not educated, and were treated the same if not worse than slaves (Athenian, 2005). In
Athens, Women lived in a society completely dominated by men (O Pry, 2012). This all ended when
the women of Sparta (a Greek city/state) were seen overcoming these issues. The life of a woman in
Athens was completely different than a Spartan. Women were treated differently, in Sparta they could
manage the land, have their own public opinion, and were treated equal as men, while women in
Athens had no public or political rights. Not only was this a big ... Show more content on

Spartan women definitely over ruled the other Greek city/states. Both Athenian and Spartan women
still had no political rights, but they could give their own political opinions to men (O Pry,2012). The
women in Athens couldn t leave their homes, therefore they couldn t talk to men. In Sparta the women
ran all estates and had all rights to go out in public (Fleck, 2007). In Athens, Greece No women,
foreigners, or slaves were considered citizens (O Pry, 2012). This changed in Sparta when the women
came out ruling their city/state. Spartans educated them much in the same way as the boys attending
school (O Pry, 2012). While in Athens, had little to no education. In Athens no women had a choice of
who they married. This was all decided by the father. The women in Athens did have the right to
divorce, but had to get permission from her husband first, and had the chance of losing custody of her
children. In Sparta women had the right to marry and divorce as needed. If a woman s husband was at
war to long they had the right to remarry (Athenian, 2005). This was something researchers have
never seen before causing them to become very confused on this situation. Even though Sparta came
out looking strong they had their downfalls. When the population of children started to go down,
because the expenses were going up, the helots came in to attack (Like they did every year). The
helots defeated them due to the military downsize. This caused Spartans to believe women were the
cause, Spartans lost all the land they conquered in Messenia, and were now just like all the regular
Greek city/states. Change is hard at first, messy in the middle and gorgeous at the end (Robin
Sharma). In the end it probably turned out not to be a bad idea

Analysis Assignment- Stairway to Heaven
ANALYSIS ASSIGNMENT STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN
Through ineffective manipulation of structure, timbre and melody, Victor Lopez s short version of
Stairway to Heaven fails to convey the same mood and effect on the listener as the original classic
piece by Led Zeppelin.
Jimmy Page, lead guitarist of hard rock band Led Zeppelin, and composer of Stairway to Heaven,
once said with reference to the album this piece was released on, My vocation is more in composition
really than anything else building up harmonies using the guitar, orchestrating the guitar like an army,
a guitar army . Victor Lopez s variation of Stairway to Heaven unsuccessfully attempts to capture the
same style and mood, given its complete change in genre and lack of sensitivity ... Show more content

The introduction starts with every instrument playing and an attempted take off of the chorus,
contrasting the idea of one melody growing in Led Zeppelin s version. The arranged variation begins
in E flat major and modulates to D major. There is no clear melody evident at all throughout the piece,
as the number of instruments playing at similar volumes, makes it hard to determine. Ornamentation is
also a key musical flourish in the original, that lacks in Victor Lopez s version, as there is no guitar
and therefore none of the brilliant guitar techniques mentioned above, to make the music come alive
and become more than just notes on a page.
The timbre or characteristic quality of sound displays a great difference when comparing the jazz
arrangement of Stairway to Heaven to the original. Jimmy Page manipulates his guitar as the main
sound source with such brilliance, using a variety of methods such as pull offs, vibrato, hammer ons,
bends and slides (see Figure 2). The guitar is the central instrument and is held responsible for the
individuality and vividness of the piece as it holds the majority of the melody, and in particular brings
out the contrast during the bridge and solo (5:35). The entire piece depends on the guitar as it
continues to play throughout the whole song and is accountable for the most complex part, portraying
the creativity and ingeniousness of Stairway to

The Canadian Criminal Justice System
It is believed that while all human kind may have had common beginnings in the millennia past, the
course of human history prevents all races from reverting back to that common kind. It is further
believed that the racism that subsists in today s society does not exist in the same manner within
Canada. While Canada is an egalitarian society, a close examination would suggest that the blunt
historical and social truths of racism that are often smugly denied exist very much in Canadian society
and have seeped into the Canadian criminal justice system. The racialization of crime, discriminatory
policing, minority overrepresentation in prison populations and a blatant denial of justice are aspects
of the system that taint much of its past and create a worried present. This paper argues against the
prevalent Canadian defence of egalitarianism by establishing the presence of systemic discrimination
within the Canadian criminal justice system.
Whether it is through print or through television screens, the press is the today s public s sole source
of news; especially news about crime and the courts. The tendency of the press to focus on crimes
committed by minorities majorly influences the justice system s reaction to minority offenders. A
minority criminal is never given the racial anonymity that a non minority criminal enjoys. The
following are news headlines and/or excerpts from court reports illustrating the aforementioned; :

Who Is The Protagonist In A Midsummer s Night Dream
A Midsummer s Night Dream s Hidden Protagonist Chaos and mischief are some of the most
important factors of a play. They cause excitement, comedy, amusement, and makes the story being

that causes chaos and trouble for the main characters. These pranksters are known as some of the most
liked characters most often by the audience because of there ability to make one laugh and create
funny and intriguing situations. In A Midsummer s Night Dream by William Shakespeare, Robin
Goodfellow (better known as Puck), takes on that role. Puck goes around playing pranks on the fairies

Games were designed to entertain while also showing the emperor s power and wealth. But there was
another, perhaps bigger, reason for the shows: blood sports and death(Cartwright). The day of games
had a very specific order: first were the comic or fantasy duels that contained women, dwarves, or
disabled people, second came the gladiator battles, and finally the animal hunts(Cartwright).
Gladiators were generally male slaves or prisoners of war( Colosseum ). The animal hunts were led by
the bestiarii(professional animal killers) and thousands of animals were butchered in a single
day(Cartwright). Some animals that were killed were lions, tigers, bears, and even elephants(
Colosseum ). There were also defenseless animals like deer, ostriches, and giraffes(Cartwright).
Brutality was deliberate to achieve crudeliter(the correct amount of cruelty)(Cartwright). In order to
hold mock naval battles, the floor of the arena could be flooded and hold large amounts of water(
Colosseum ). These naval battles were common at the beginning of the use of the Colosseum, but
became more rare towards the decline of the Colosseum. Even dramas were held in the arena. Many
executions were held inside the Colosseum, even crucifixions(Cartwright). Many Christians were
murdered in the arena because they were seen as a challenge to the authority of the
emperor(Cartwright). These Christians were thrown to lions, burned alive, shot with arrows, or many
other gruesome ways(Cartwright). The most important citizens sat on stone benches with cushions in
the lower level of the arena(Favro). Lesser citizens had to sit on wooden bleachers in the upper
levels(Favro). These citizens climbed to seats that had a height equivalent to a 16 story
building(Favro). This is about 160 feet high. The Colosseum was used heavily while in its prime, but
its use and structure gradually began to decline. It still stands today, but, like Rome, has been partially
destroyed. The Colosseum

Interpersonal Communication Model
1. Overview of Interpersonal Communication
Interpersonal communication is a process of exchanging information from one party to another. In
other words, it is a two way transmission of messages by which people present their intentions,
emotions and expectations in by writing, speaking, or other means (Holland Anderson, 2012).
1.1 Model of interpersonal communication
Hartley (1925) highlighted the most important elements of interpersonal communication with a model
(Figure 1) so to indicate what is happening throughout the process of interpersonal communication.
There are four key components Social context, Social identity, Social perception and Coding.

Coding
Coding can be further divided into two parts Encoding and Decoding (Hargie, 2004: Black, 2014).
The former is the process in which the sender decides what message will be sent and how it will be
transmitted while the latter is the stage by which the receiver analyses and determine the sender s
intention.
Language is the usual and normal way to present an idea or feeling. However, language sometimes is
a barrier in communication, especially an intercultural interpersonal communication. It is difficult for
a Japanese and an American to communicate because of different mother languages, accents, and also
a lack of equivalent words and grammar.
In addition, the same word has different meanings according to various conditions. Take negative as
an example. People always interpret this term as bad. Nevertheless, in scientific tests, it refers to no
sign or no symptoms. Patients may misunderstand the negative in these

Aldo Leopold Appreciating The Land Ethic Summary
Ethics Lab Aldo Leopold: Appreciating the Land Ethic
Please answer the following questions:
1. Please state the Land Ethic (quote directly): All ethics so far evolved rest upon a single premise that
the individual is a member of a community of interdependent parts. His instincts prompt him to
compete for his place in that community, but his ethics prompt him also to co operate (perhaps in
order that there may be a place to compete for). The land ethic simply enlarges the boundaries of the
community to include soils, waters, plants, and animals, or collectively: the land. Aldo Leopold

I think widespread adoption of the Land ethic would be possible because we continually come up with
new technologies and farming methods that have less impact on the earth and are sustainable. Some of
the consequences would be the widespread abandonment of fossil fuels, a surge in recycling materials,
widespread use of farming techniques that fight erosion and use little pesticide, and, an overall change
in our current wasteful consumption patterns. Even though it would be possible to adopt the Land
Ethic I could see it being difficult because the majority of people in western cultures would have to
change their lifestyles dramatically to be in line with the Land Ethic.

The Mead s Milkweed Family Name Is Asclepiadaceae
The Mead s milkweed family name is Asclepiadaceae (milkweeds). Mead Milkweed is a nonwoody
plant with smooth stem, and has milky sap. This is a short lived annual growth. It blooms in late May
to mid June with one or two clusters that produce roughly five fourteen flowers per cluster. The
flowers are yellow green or creamy green with purple tints. However, the seeds mature from July until
around October. A single plant may have multiple stems, which is frequently being mistaken for
individual plants. It takes on average fifteen years for it to grow and develop into a mature adult. After
it reaches the adult stage, every stem produces flowers for two to three years. They can grow to be one
or two feet tall.
Habitats include slightly moist to dry tall grass and upland prairies. Soil conditions in these habitats
range from acid and nutrient poor in Missouri. Conservation efforts include delaying haying until
September, periodic burning of prairies, and rotational grazing. In the past, Mead s milkweed was
throughout much of Missouri. It is presently found in the Osage Plains region and the St. Francois
mountains region of the Ozarks.
Adaptations allow the species to change and adjust slowly to the environment for survival. The sap of
most milkweed plants is toxic. This prevents the plants from being eaten. Some insects, however, can
eat milkweeds or sip on the milkweed nectar, which is not toxic to them. Many populations contain
genetically identical plants from being

Researching a Jet Engine
The heat engine I chose to research was the jet engine. The jet engine is a heat engine specialized to
use jet propulsion for forward thrust. The first credible theory on jet engines was made by Sir Isaac
Newton. He theorized that a backward siphoned explosion could move a machine forward at a
momentous rate of speed. This theory was based off of his third law of motion which is for every
action there is an equal and opposite re action. This law states that for every force there is a reaction
force that is equal in size, but in the opposite direction. This early theory on the idea of jet engines
gave way to the later inventors who would use Newton s theory to make the first working jet engines.
In 1928 Sir Frank Whittle started developing his first jet engine, and in 1932 he had the idea of his jet
engine patented. In 1937 Sir Frank Whittle finally created a working jet engine. Meanwhile in
Germany, Dr. Hans Van Ohain was working on his own jet engine unaware of Whittle s work. Dr.
Hans Van Ohain began his project in 1935, finished his first engine in 1937, and it was used in the first
ever plane flight in 1939. Sir Frank Whittle is usually accredited to most of the work on early jet
engines because not only did he get to start working on the idea a few years before Dr. Hans Van
Ohain, but Germany was also being very secretive about their work due to their dislike of the other
countries in Europe. Dr. Hans Van Ohain s work was not shared to the world, but Whittle s was and

The cave in many historic accounts is the beginning of life and the dwelling place of gods and

the location of the Pyramid is very significant. By itself the pyramid is simply a grand structure.
However, because the Pyramid is constructed upon a series of caverns and a natural springs it is
crucial to the religious system. Caves are considered the womb of the earth and springs are the
openings to the underworld and to the earth gods (Heyden 134,141). The Pyramid is then a grand
monument to the origin of life and a bridge to the spirit realm. Furthermore, the Pyramids physical

Surrounded by the outside world one lives through many experiences where knowledge is accepted.
Encountering other human beings reflects upon one s perception and brings about ones self decisions.
Mary Shelley s novel, Frankenstein, written in 1816, demonstrates through characters that an
obsessive desire for more knowledge may ruin ones life.

The idea of pursuing knowledge clouded Victor s mind and when his creature is born he is shocked to

Hume says that for humans finding or thinking of no explanation for the cause and effect could be
considered as such unintelligible. Hume explains that we get the knowledge of cause and effect
through our experiences. Hume explains more in depth by describing if how something new is
introduced to someone they would not have the experience to cover any of the causes and effects of
that object because they have no past experience towards that one object. Hume also says that
someone is not able to find the effect from just experiencing the cause and as Hume assumes only if
you have experienced it all will you know what will happen if the same thing is going to happen you ll
assume or predict what will be the cause and effect. Such as for every day you experience the sun

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Computer Games
For budding video game players, choosing your platform for gaming is not only a bit of a challenge
financially, but also depending on your level of experience and interest in convenience. When you
take into account these three factors, and maybe a few more, it will very much decide what kind of
gamer you would like to be, or, what is best for you at the time. For some people money may not be
an issue and deciding can be relatively easy as both is an option. However, for many of us, we have to
take more time to decide. When first figuring out what direction is the best one, the initial thing many
consider before deciding between buying a console or a PC for gaming is cost. A current generation
console can cost anywhere in the range from two hundred up to around six hundred dollars. Without
advertising specific any specific brands, for some a smart phone is all you need to play simple games.
However, smart phone games are usually very casual and filled with advertisement spam. Handheld
portable consoles have superior games to smart phones, yet can still be quite casual when compared to
full scale console home systems. Unfortunately, the competition when it comes to consoles is very
strong and you find a lot of video games become exclusive to those systems. This can be very
frustrating when a very good game comes out on the console you don t own. On a consumer level, the
savings alone more than justify the potential extra outlay or occasional graphics card upgrade. For the

Any smart grid (SG) infrastructure should support monitoring, analysis, control, and communication
capabilities to the conventional Power Grid System to maximize the throughput of the system and
reduce the energy consumption. The existing power grids need optimal balancing of electricity
demand and supply between the consumers and the utility providers. So, Energy management needs to
be addressed with the implementation of cloud computing in smart grid (SG). The overwhelming
heterogeneous information generated in the smart grid (SG) due to widely deployed monitoring ,
metering, and measurement calls for a powerful and cost effective information management
mechanism for data processing, analysis and storage. Hence, we explore how cloud computing, a next
generation computing paradigm serves the information management in the smart grid (SG) In this
respect, cloud computing can play key roles of motivation in the design of smart grid (SG). Cloud

The Battle of La Drang Valley (October 26 November 27, 1965)
This was the first battle between the U.S. Army and the People s Army of Vietnam (PAVN) of North
Vietnam. This two part battle occurred November fourteenth through the eighteenth of November
1965. The location was at the Landing Zone X Ray and Albany in La Drang Valley. Although ample
casualties on both Vietnam and U.S. side, each side adduced the battle was a victory of their own. The
action of La Drang Valley was considered essential as it set the layouts for approaches for each side
during the conflict. The U.S. troops continued to depend on air mobility and arms fire to acquire their
combat zone objectives achievement of the so called body count . Viet Cong learned by quickly

Women s Rights At Meriwether Lewis And William Clark
Throughout history there have been many honorable mentions of women all over the world, from
Abigail Adams to Margaret Mead. For example, look at Meriwether Lewis and William Clark; history
talks about their expedition across the Louisiana Territory and how they helped expand America, but
in truth it was really Sacagawea s expedition. If Lewis and Clark had gone by themselves they would
have gotten lost, died of disease or killed by Indian tribes, however because of Sacagawea s
knowledge of the land, plants and surrounding Indian tribes the expedition went good. How did this
Native American woman have all this knowledge? The answer is simple, she learned all of this from
her parents. Since Sacagawea s parents took the time to teach her ... Show more content on

The second one I chose to write about was Susan B. Anthony because of how she was raised to stand
up for her beliefs about men and women being equal. The last one I chose to write about was Helen
Keller because even though her parents did not raise her, she had an amazing and kind caretaker
named Anne Sullivan that showed her that even though she was deaf and blind she could change the
world for the better. These women have rightfully earned their spots in history and should be praised
for the sacrifices they made to make America a better place for slaves, women and the disabled.
Sojourner Truth
During the late seventeenth century if a person was not a land owning single white male, they were
treated horrible. This left women and slaves to be at the bottom of the totem pole. Now imagine being
a woman born into slavery, this would put the woman even lower on the pole; close to being equal
with dirt. However, this did not stop Sojourner Truth from fighting for women s rights and being an
abolitionist.
Nell Painter, author of Sojourner Truth: A Life, A Symbol writes about Sojourner Truth s life and how
she was used as a symbol for various movements. Painter shows how religion was a major point in
Truth s ministry about how slaves and women should be treated fairly and equal to men. In Painter s
book, she writes about how Truth gained fame from the Akron women s rights conference because of
her giving her speech, Dat man over dar say dat woman needs to be helped into

Marva Collins Case Study
Educators require just books, a board, and a couple of legs that will last the day, Marva Collins told
Dan Hurley in 50 Plus magazine. These three things were basically all that Collins had when she
opened the Westside Preparatory School in Chicago, Illinois, in 1975 with the $5,000 she had added to
her benefits subsidize. Frustrated in the wake of instructing in the state funded educational system for
a long time, Collins chose to leave and open a school that would welcome understudies who had been
dismisses by different schools and marked problematic and closed off. She had seen an excessive
number of kids go through an insufficient educational system in which they were given indifferent
instructors, some of whom came to class artificially debilitated.
A firm adherent to the estimation of an instructor s chance gone through with an understudy, Collins
dismisses the idea that the best approach to take care of the issues confronted by U.S. schools was to

A few national productions printed her story, and she was highlighted on the prevalent TV program a
hour in a meeting with Morley Safer. In 1981 CBS introduced a Hallmark Hall of Fame unique
entitled The Marva Collins Story, featuring Cicely Tyson.
Late in 1980 Collins was considered for the post of secretary of instruction by U.S. President Ronald
Reagan. Liking to keep instructing and running her school, Collins reported that she would not
acknowledge the position on the off chance that it were offered to her. She trusted that she could have
a greater effect by working with the kids in Chicago than she could by inundating herself in the
printed material the occupation in Washington, D.C., would without a doubt bring. The Chicago
school board and the Los Angeles County educational system additionally offered her positions. Once

  • 2. Dear White People Film Analysis In 1964, the Civil Rights Act was enacted by the 88th United States Congress, outlawing any discrimination in the United States. With the Civil Rights Act, and the election America s first Black president Barack Obama, in 2008, America was gradually becoming a post racial society after a long history of racism that dates back to the 17th century. History, in conjunction with current events, exposes how America, the land of the free and the home of the brave is nowhere near a post racial society because of white privilege, a broken system, and a new form of slavery; all created by the majority of the United States. The white population of the United States is 62.6% of the nation s total population, therefore we are part of a nation that is controlled by white people. Because they make up a big percentage of this nation, they control the system and institutions, and set it up in a way that only they get to benefit from. People of color, make up part of what is called the minority or the problem of America. In comparison to a white person, people of color are not granted the same opportunities or advantages, even when they meet the qualifications to certain things. In the film Dear White People, directed by Justin Simien, Dean Fairbanks in a conversation with his son Troy said Fletcher and I graduated a year apart. He barely made it through. I graduated Summa Cum Laude. Now look who s President and who s Dean. Dean Fairbanks was much more qualified and had a better ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. How Yoga Can Help Relieve The Stress That College Students One would be hard pressed to find a college student who does not deal with high levels of stress. According to the American College Health Association s annual assessment last year, approximately 53% of college students reported experiencing above average levels of stress (ACHA). What s more, 30% of those students said stress had a significant negative impact on their academic performance (ACHA). Unfortunately, attending college requires students to take on unavoidably stressful situations, such as paying for tuition and living expenses, rigorous coursework, and other social and family related obligations. Since the sources of stress cannot be eliminated for the most part, the best way to students to successfully navigate their college education is to learn methods for stress management. One of these methods is to practice yoga. In this paper, I hope to demonstrate how yoga can help relieve the stress that college students experience by explaining the physical and mental benefits of developing a yoga practice. In addition, I will address the limitations that college students in the United States may face when getting involved with yoga, and in turn offer solutions to these limitations. First, I will give a brief overview of the history of yoga and explain what it is. The word yoga means to unite or connect. It is a spiritual practice and system of discipline that originated in India approximately five thousand years ago. Although it is most commonly tied to the religion ... • 4. Roles Of Race In Criminalization The concept of race is an idea that has been socially and historically created. However, as we look closer into race and the role race plays in society, one realizes that education and wealth are unable to provide safety from the consequences of being part of an unfavored racial group. In terms of crime in America, the role of race has been implemented to harm people of color, especially those that are African American. An African American and a white person, can commit the same crime, and yet experience the consequences differently. Despite these conflicts, the faith remains alive, strong, and continuously growing. Like many religions faced with adversity, Judaism has had to assimilate its faith to survive in an ever changing world. One significant moment of change in the Jewish history, the fall of the Second Temple, had the opportunity to destroy Judaism, but the Jewish people bonded together and reformulated their religion in order to save their faith. Once a faith centered on priesthood, sacrificial rituals, communal gatherings and oral traditions, the people of the Jewish religion decided to restructure the faith around written scripture. Although it is argued that rabbis began work on compiling the oral histories prior to the fall of the Second Temple, there was a marked resurgence in documentation of the important history and moral laws of Judaism after the fall (Molloy, 291). The Jewish people felt a sense of urgency to finish the written works. They believed the incorporation of written word into Judaism would help to solidify their place in the religious world, as well as make the faith easier to correctly interpret among their own vastly dispersed people (BBC, 2009). The most important of these written documents is the Hebrew Bible. This bible is composed of the Torah, Nevi im and Ketuvim, and these three components combine to make up the Tanakh (Simmons, 83). The Torah is the core of the Hebrew Bible and contains the story of creation, as well as directions on daily conduct and religious rituals. The Nevi im contains the stories of prophets. The prophets were people who spoke on behalf of God to the Jewish people. Lastly, the Ketuvim is composed of mostly imaginative literature such as psalms, proverbs and poetry (Molloy, 294). Besides, he emphasized the power inherited in the human body, especially torso. David is a example in this case, it represented a state of relaxation and tension, and its proportion is corresponded more to Hellenistic style than Classical Style. His muscular figures are rendered in exaggerated contrapposto, which are one of the most monumental images in Western art. The main question that arises from the many studies looking at schizophrenia and violence is does schizophrenia itself make an individual violent or are there other factors from the mental illness that contribute to this? According to Fazel, Guati, Linsell, Geddes and Grahn (2009), before the 1980 s many people made no connection between the disorder of schizophrenia and being violent. However, since more in depth and large research studies has been carried out to look at this connection, it has now been proven that there is a relationship between schizophrenia and violence. While Canada is an egalitarian society, a close examination would suggest that the blunt historical and social truths of racism that are often smugly denied exist very much in Canadian society and have seeped into the Canadian criminal justice system. This paper argues against the prevalent Canadian defence of egalitarianism by establishing the presence of systemic discrimination within the Canadian criminal justice system. Whether it is through print or through television screens, the press is the today s public s sole source of news; especially news about crime and the courts. The tendency of the press to focus on crimes committed by minorities majorly influences the justice system s reaction to minority offenders. A minority criminal is never given the racial anonymity that a non minority criminal enjoys. • 31. The Mead s Milkweed Family Name Is Asclepiadaceae The Mead s milkweed family name is Asclepiadaceae (milkweeds). Mead Milkweed is a nonwoody plant with smooth stem, and has milky sap. This is a short lived annual growth. It blooms in late May to mid June with one or two clusters that produce roughly five fourteen flowers per cluster. The flowers are yellow green or creamy green with purple tints. However, the seeds mature from July until around October. A single plant may have multiple stems, which is frequently being mistaken for individual plants. It takes on average fifteen years for it to grow and develop into a mature adult. After it reaches the adult stage, every stem produces flowers for two to three years. They can grow to be one or two feet tall. Habitats include slightly moist to dry tall grass and upland prairies. Soil conditions in these habitats range from acid and nutrient poor in Missouri. Conservation efforts include delaying haying until September, periodic burning of prairies, and rotational grazing. In the past, Mead s milkweed was throughout much of Missouri. It is presently found in the Osage Plains region and the St. Francois mountains region of the Ozarks. Adaptations allow the species to change and adjust slowly to the environment for survival. The sap of most milkweed plants is toxic. This prevents the plants from being eaten. Some insects, however, can eat milkweeds or sip on the milkweed nectar, which is not toxic to them. Many populations contain genetically identical plants from being ... The first credible theory on jet engines was made by Sir Isaac Newton. He theorized that a backward siphoned explosion could move a machine forward at a momentous rate of speed. This theory was based off of his third law of motion which is for every action there is an equal and opposite re action. This law states that for every force there is a reaction force that is equal in size, but in the opposite direction. This early theory on the idea of jet engines gave way to the later inventors who would use Newton s theory to make the first working jet engines. In 1928 Sir Frank Whittle started developing his first jet engine, and in 1932 he had the idea of his jet engine patented. In 1937 Sir Frank Whittle finally created a working jet engine. Meanwhile in Germany, Dr. Hans Van Ohain was working on his own jet engine unaware of Whittle s work. Dr. Hans Van Ohain began his project in 1935, finished his first engine in 1937, and it was used in the first ever plane flight in 1939. Sir Frank Whittle is usually accredited to most of the work on early jet engines because not only did he get to start working on the idea a few years before Dr. Hans Van Ohain, but Germany was also being very secretive about their work due to their dislike of the other countries in Europe.
