Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Observation
On April 28, 2017, I attended the School of Music s Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. The program last
about two hours and had a ten minute intermission. This non ticketed event was held at Morgan Hall
in the Bailey Performing Arts Center on Kennesaw State University s Kennesaw campus. The
program consisted of three unique musical pieces performed by the renowned Atlanta Symphony
Orchestra.
Before the concert began, I was able to observe the audience members outside of the entrance doors.
Unlike the other Kennesaw State concerts that I attended, there was an extremely large and diverse
crowd dressed formally. The doors opened fifteen minutes before the concert began and an usher
escorted me to the second row in front of the stage. As the performance began, felt a formal and
prestigious atmosphere within the crowd. I began to copy my neighbor s etiquette in order to fit in
with the audience. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The orchestra performed passionately and precisely with perfect synchronization. The dramatic
crescendos and decrescendos really brought out the emotions of each piece. The first piece performed
was called Don Juan (1888 1889) and started off fast paced and suspenseful. Composed by Richard
Strauss (1864 1949), the piece had a lot of dissonance within it. There were times when the piece
would slow down gradually then suddenly speed up, returning back to its original pacing. Each
instrumental section could be heard precisely and no one section overwhelmed another. The conductor
stood out the most during the performance and excellently controlled the pacing and tone of the piece.
His exotic movements seemed excessive at first, but I began to realize that he was simply passionate

Dr Malcolm Clemens Young Summary
Why do you believe that the Reverend Dr. Malcolm Clemens Young is addressing Christians in his
discussion about wealth inequality?
Reverend Young addresses Christians about wealth inequality as he states that Jesus cared for the poor
and consequently, followers of the faith have an obligation to do the same.
What assumptions is he making about religious people?
Dr. Young assumes that religious individuals, and more specifically Chrisitans, are seperate entities
from the top 5% of wage earners. Moreover, the author implies that these extremely wealthy
individuals are materialistic and devoid of the morals and values that are inherent in the less fortunate.
Young states that it is the working poor (who)... contribute a great deal more to society than the highly
paid people who merely move money around.
Reverend Young uses Mitt Romney as an example of excessive riches and details his 7 houses.
However, the author fails to note that Mr. Romney is in fact, a devout Mormom who donates millions
to his church and other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, Reverend Young fails to realize that a strong business acumen can co exisit in individuals
with a devout sense of piety as evidenced by the Mennonites and Quakers ( The Protestant Ethics and
the Spirit of Capitalism 11).
Do you think folks who are religious care more or less about income equality? Why or why not?
I believe that when one has a strong set of ethical beliefs, they will care more about society s issues,
including income inequality. However, I do not believe the religious followers always possess these
moral beliefs nor do those who fail to follow an organized religion lack this ethical framework. It is
truly up to the individual.
What factors in a given religion may impact if a person cares about wealth inequality or

PROFESSIONAL AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS ORGANIZATION V. REAGAN: THE STRIKE
THAT HELPED SHAPE U. S. LABOR RELATIONS
Thirty one years ago, when President Ronald Reagan threatened to fire approximately
13,000 air traffic controllers unless they called off an illegal strike, the president not only transformed
his presidency, but also shaped the labor relations in the United States.
The Professional Air Traffic Controllers Organization (PATCO) strike of August 3. 1981 was a
remarkable day in the history of this country. Under the direction of union president,
Robert E. Poli, 14,500 members declared a nationwide strike. Approximately 11,500 members walked
off their jobs because of contract disputes with the Federal Aviation ... Show more content on

It won an order directing that the stoppage be ended and that controllers return to work. The FAA won
similar orders in Minnesota and Alaska (Northrup 169). As a direct result, the FAA fired fifty two
controllers, of whom forty six were later reinstated to their positions. The FAA also suspended nearly
on thousand more controllers for a short period of time. As a result of the strike, Bailey s tenure as
executive director of PATCO came to an end when his position was abolished. Subsequently, John F.
Leyden was chosen as president, a position that he held for the next ten years. In addition,
Assistant Secretary of Labor W. J. Usery disqualified PATCO as a bargaining agent for 126 days. The
union was later reinstated by Usery and it won exclusive bargaining rights election in 1972. In July
and August of 1976 tensions ran high again after the Civil Service Commissioner declined to
reclassified controllers to a higher salary grade. The result was that PATCO staged slowdowns for five
days at the nation s busiest airports. Its tactics proved successful when on
January 13, 1977, the Commission reversed itself and increased controllers wages (Northrup
170).
In preparations for subsequent strikes, in 1977 PATCO established a strike fund known as the National
Controller Subsistence Fund. 15 percent of the membership dues were

Improper Use Of Backboards
Every tool created has a proper and improper use. A tool, when used correctly, can assist the user in
successfully accomplishing a job or task. However, if that same tool applied incorrectly or over used,
it can result in undesired outcomes. In the realm of emergency medicine, the application of
backboards and cervical spine precautions has its benefits and its flaws. Since the implementation of
the backboard, it has been used for extrication, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, spinal or cervical
trauma, multi system trauma, and so on. Although there are indications for the use of backboards,
many personnel either improperly apply or apply when there is no significant injury. This paper will

This can t co exist with all patients in C Spine because the used of a backboard isn t implemented
without adverse affects. In a 1994 study, healthy volunteers ages 10 43 were placed on backboards for
only 30 minutes. This resulted in 100% of patients developing moderate to severe pain, with 29%
developing pain over the following 48 hours (Bledsoe, 2013). This pain may come from not padding
in voids or improper backboard strap placement or tightness. Keep in mind that these patients were
healthy. If an injured or unhealthy individual was to be placed in the same situation, their condition
may be more severe. For example, elderly or patients complicated with diseases like obesity,
congestive heart failure, COPD, asthma, or pneumonia may suffer from being secured to a backboard

Neuropathic Pain
Pain can be classified based on its type. It can be acute, cancer or chronic of by pathophysiology that
can either be visceral or somatic. Neuropathic pain is the pain ensuing from injury to the tissues hence
causing nerve dysfunction. Neuropathic pain is therefore described as a shooting, throbbing, or cold
sensation. Cancer pain can also be defined as the pain that arises from both neuropathic and
nociceptive pain. It is therefore important to identify the mechanisms as well as different forms of pain
considering that selective treatment helps improve the outcomes of pain control.
Interventional pain management may also be used in the case of patients with advanced and terminal

How Does Walt Use Racism In Gran Torino
Moreover, in Gran Torino Walt is a Korean War veteran with prejudices towards other races and
ethnicities. He isolates himself from others and has a disconnection with his family who are different
from Walt s more traditional way of life. Despite his loneliness and prejudices he lives in a
predominately lower class Hmong neighborhood. The audience first sees Walt act out against his
neighbors during the wake for his wife when a boy, Thao, asks to borrow jumper cables. Walt
immediately lashes out at the boy purely for being part of the Hmong culture. This boy then sneaks
into Walt s garage in an attempt to steal his Gran Torino which almost results in the loss of Thao s life.
Immediately this deepens Walt s contempt and hatred for the Hmong community. However, knowing

for Walt as he lives in exile. As a result, she invites him over to feast with her family, and meet the
neighborhood who revere him as hero after he saved Thao from being abducted by his gangster
cousin. After continuously being interactive with his community Walt gradually opens up more and
more to the hmong community shedding his hatred as the story progress. The first time the audience
witnesses Walt fully shed his hatred for his neighbors, occurs when he helps Thao transition to
becoming a man and getting a construction job. Then, out of the blue, Thao begins acting different for
some days, and reveals his cousin jumped him and stole his tools. At this point Walt steps into the role
not only as a kind neighbor, but also a protector when he retaliates on behalf of Thao. Though what he
does is courageous and righteous it ultimately leads to the rape of Sue, and shooting of his neighbors

Black Bears Research Paper
Black bears are the smallest North American bears however; they are the largest land mammal in New
Jersey. Black bears evolved in thick forest and live in mixed hardwood forests, dense swamps and
forested wetlands. They naturally like to eat fresh leaves, berries, fruits, nuts, roots, insects, bird eggs
and small mammals. Black bears are generally solitary animals, with the exception of a sow and her
cubs. They tend to be crepuscular, meaning they are most active shortly before sunrise and again after
sunset. Black bears are typically not aggressive and tend to be wary of humans. However, since the
early 2000s black bear and human interactions have become more frequent. New Jersey has excellent

The New Jersey Fish and Game Council have come up with a management strategy to handle the bear
problem but the most effective way those far appears to be hunting the bears. In the early 2000s bear
hunting was illegal and many people were against legalizing it again. In order to compromise a bear
hunting season was passed which was started in the beginning of December and held concurrently
with the state s six day firearm deer hunting season. Bear hunting zones include large sections of
Morris, Sussex, Warren, and northern Passaic counties, plus smaller areas of Hunterdon, Somerset and
Bergen counties. There is a limit of one bear per licensed and registered hunter. This method of black
bear population management was and is still successful. In 2003 and 2005 the success was based on 1)
the target harvests were obtained; 2) the seasons were conducted safely with no hunter accidents and
without incident of trespassing or other complaints; and 3) biological data on bears, hunter success

About a quarter cup flour
I also added a sloosh of wine, black pepper and chopped herbs
Vegetables
Heat the olive oil in a large pan and put a glass of water in the freezer.
POTATOES
The potatoes I used had been around for a while so were quite eye y so my first job was to wash them,
clean out any eyes and cut them into quarters. Each chunk of potato should be bite sized. Once the oil
is hot, add the potatoes. I like to dab them with paper towel to dry them first. Stir the potatoes and turn
the heat to medium low.
LEEKS
Simply clean the leek and cut into slices. I don t know if it s just me that gets particularly grubby leeks
but I always have to give them a very thorough rinse in cold water.

Put the leeks to the pan with the potatoes. Give them a good stir.

Peel and slice the garlic cloves and put these into the pan too, combining the vegetables well. By now,

they re done.

Cough In The Commonplace
Almost every commonplace scenario has a polite phrase that goes alongside it. When someone
sneezes, a scattered symphony of bless you s follows soon afterward. When you receive a gift of
kindness, it is appropriate to respond with a thank you . When accepting another s gratitude, it is
typical to say, You re welcome . But what do you say when someone coughs? By normal people s
standards, the answer to that question is nothing at all. After a person coughs, not a single word is
uttered, leaving an empty silence which desires to be filled with something. A while back in middle
school, it was this palpable feeling of emptiness which drove me to ponder the nature of this situation.
How could there be no phrase to respond to a cough? I

The Truman Corner Shopping Center
Please note that the table excludes the existing Truman Corner Shopping Center, which will be
redeveloped into the proposed Truman s Marketplace. There is about 2.5 million SF of retail space in
major centers located within five miles of the site. About 40% of this space is within three miles of the
site. The further away the center is from the redevelopment site the less likely it will provide
competition with Truman s Marketplace. In our opinion, retail centers such as Ward Parkway, Stateline
Station and those in Leawood are far enough away that they would serve a separate market. Even
much of the space within three miles of the site is predominately older, poorly maintained product that
may not effectively compete with the proposed project. Just beyond the five mile radius from the site

strenuous due to the added height of the beds, but usually have to be done by hand. Beds are most
often made of untreated lumber, cinder blocks, or plastic. This type of garden can be ideal for areas

Analysis Of Mill On The Floss By George Eliot
This research report reviews scholarly criticism on the much debated character MAGGIE TULLIVER
from the book Mill on the floss written by George Eliot. The project I propose analyses Maggie s
character as a whole. The report will begin by discussing the critics point of view of various reasons
responsible for the death of Maggie Tulliver. The report then focuses on how society and how her
relationships lead to her downfall from the point of view of various critics. A part of my report also
critically analyses the death of Maggie Tulliver. Lastly my report discusses about the inner conflicts of
Maggie and how those conflicts eventually lead to her fate. Maggie suppresses herself in the
patriarchal system and struggles to make a place for herself and to find an identity of her own. In her
article Maggie Tulliver s long suicide1974 Elizabeth Deeds Ermarth says that Maggie eventually
believes the lie, that she is inferior, or wrong, or not to be taken seriously. She learned to collaborate in
her own defeat . ELIZABETH ERMARTH also comments on how society affects Maggie since she
was shaped to be a child by the family pieties, it is fitting that her life ends in a reversion to childhood
where her energies to be an adult, tragically, are unneeded. Moving on to her relationships, Ermarth
analyses that her relationships with Mr.Tulliver and her brother Tom Tulliver play a very important
role in her being a selfless person. In return of being obedient Tom gives

The Development Of Rural Development
3.2 Rural Development
According to Oyeleye, D.A.(1987) he defines rural development as process in which development in
social infrastructures such as better roads, water supply, electricity, schools and hospitals spreads out
from the urban centres or communities and moves into the rural villages and communities.
Abumere S.I. (2002) stated that if rural development is defined as a means to help improve the
physical, cultural, social and economic status or life of the rural people then that means that
infrastructures such as roads, clean water, electricity, telecommunication and other facilities must be
carefully planned and delivered to the rural people in a consistent manner. It doesn t matter whether
these infrastructures are built from the urban centres and move into the rural areas or vice versa. The
delivery mechanisms must be very consistent.
Inorder for any country to develope and progress both socially and economically, it must have the
necessary infrastructures that are needed to facilitate such development, in both urban and rural areas
of the country.
However studies have shown that in most developing countries, rural areas/villages are mostly
neglected therefore these rural areas don t have these basic infrastructures that are needed for
development. Therefore there is a huge demand for building infrastructures into rural areas.
That is very true for Papua New Guinea where the bulks of the population live in the rural areas. The
Gena villagers are one of the

A Brief Note On Diabetes And Low Physical Activity
Diabetes is one of the most common non communicable diseases in the world with currently 347
million people living with the condition and was the direct cause of approximately 1.5 million deaths
in 2012 (WHO). It is a condition that occurs when the body cannot provide enough insulin or cannot
use the insulin that is produced effectively. Insulin is what allows glucose to enter the body s cells for
energy so without it, too much glucose stays in the blood stream. The insulin is what regulates blood
sugar and without it, it can cause damage to the body. There are two types of diabetes, Type 1 is
caused when the pancreas cannot produce insulin and is less common in diabetic patients. Type 2
diabetes (NIDDM) is caused when the body does not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Legumes are an important component in a healthy diet especially in developing countries and play a
much less significant role in the diet of western countries. Within Britain it is baked beans that are
extremely popular, however there sweet tomato sauce is usually high in sugar, and in the Far East soya
beans are staple part of their diet (Lean, 2006). It is said that leguminous plants should be a key
component in a healthy diabetic diet to control and manage the patient s diabetes. Regular
consumption of legumes should occur as they have various properties that can contribute to protecting
from obesity, cardiovascular disease and of course NIDDM. It is said that a serving a day of legumes
(1/2 a cup) can have positive effects on health, this being the minimum that should be consumed.
Mirmiran et al (2014) claims that this food commodity is a supportive functional food that should be
permanent in a diabetic s diet because of their low glycaemic index, high fibre and phytochemical
content that will help reduce the risk of complications associated with spikes in blood glucose. This is
one of the main reasons why people with diabetes or pre diabetes should have a high legume diet. It
has been shown that lower glycaemic index (GI) diet has been associated with improved control over
diabetes. The GI is a ranking of carbohydrate containing foods based on their overall effect of blood
glucose levels by their

Analysis Of Daddy By Sylvia Plath
Daddy by Sylvia Plath is a poem that explores the persona of a 40 year old woman whose father died
when she was 10. Despite the fact that Plath denied that it was in anyway autobiographical, the reader
cannot fail to notice the similarities between the life of the persona and Plath. Throughout the poem
we are faced which a strain of imagery; imagery which shows the personas extreme anger through
connotations to being in a concentration camp:
Chuffing me off like a Jew. A Jew to Dachau, Auschwitz, Belsen
Here we see that the speaker feels persecuted by the memory of her father just as the Jews were
persecuted under the Nazi state. The connotations of chuffing conveys that she feels that when her
father died he almost gave her no time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The persona feels trapped in the moment of her father s death, and she feels mentally and physically
unable to move on and grow despite the death occurring 30 years ago:
Black shoe in which I have lived like a foot
The metaphor created here is representative of the pain her father causes for her. The implications of
this have caused her to be crushed, tortured and twisted, as she has been held captive by the death for
since she was 10 years old; this prohibiting her from developing into an adult. She refers to her father
has black shoe which conveys through the word choice of black that he is evil, but it also has
connotations to death. The reader is also shocked to see that she feels her father has fed off her
existence since his death:
For thirty years, poor and white
The contrast between the speaker being white and her father being black suggest that she see s herself
as the polar opposite of him. It also suggests that she has been drained of all life, this is the
introduction to the vampire imagery we see elsewhere in the poem. This imagery makes clear that her
father haunts her with her statements like bit my pretty red heart which has connotations to her
innocence being lost due to his death this is conveyed through the word choice of red which suggests
youthfulness. These lines emit her thought of being fuelled by hatred of her father, thus she has an
intense anger for him and the suffering he

Effectiveness of Body Image Portrayal in Different...
What many women think when they see a Victoria s Secret advertisement on TV is to put the
chocolate down and hit the gym. Why is this? To be beautiful and fit is a prerequisite to becoming a
model for their various lingerie campaigns. People all around the world tune in to watch the annual
Victoria s Secret Fashion Show, and see their Angels strut down the walkway in lingerie. In today s
society, being thin is considered attractive and acceptable what the ideal woman should look like.
While no one wishes to think him or herself vain, most people are affected by what the media portrays
as a standard for beauty.
This does not simply affect adolescents, but older generations as well. A Harvard study showed that up
to two thirds of underweight 12 year old girls considered themselves to be too fat (Fox). The media
portrays this standard of beauty as adequate and attainable. When one passes by the Victoria s Secret
store and glances at the massive posters of a beautiful model, he or she probably admires the
perfection. But is it a fair representation of the average American woman? No. Advertisements such as
Victoria s Secret have been criticized for projecting an unrealistic image of what women should look

Mailer seemed fascinated by the different techniques each fighter used in order to try and win the

where he sees Juliek giving a concert too many dying men.
I . . . I m afraid . . . They ll break . . . my violin . . . I . . . I brought it with me. This quote shows that
the violin is very important to Juliek. Juliek brought his violin with him because it s like his hope, it s
the only item he has that will make him feel better. The book states, Those were my thoughts when I
heard the sound of a violin... Who was this madman who played the violin, here at the edge of his own
grave? Or was it a hallucination? It had to be Juliek. He was playing a fragment of a Beethoven
concerto. Never before had I heard such a beautiful sound. In such silence. When Juliek was playing
the violin, it was his hope or his life. Juliek was still alive and his violin was still in one piece. The
violin is like his hope because when he plays the violin it seems to calm him down and it takes all his
worries away. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Next to him lay his violin, trampled, an eerily poignant little corpse. This quote means something
because when the violin is still in one piece he s fine, he s hopeful, but when the violin breaks his hope

you are letting death win. The violin Juliek had was very important to him, there was a meaning
behind that violin, and once it broke, Juliek let death

The Importance Of Cultural Diversity In The United States
The United States is a melting pot now more than ever. The biggest reason for this change is largely
due from immigration and birthrates. Over the past thirty years immigrants who have come to
American have been primarily non Europeans including Asians, and people from South and Central
America. In the year 2000, the United States census recorded 2.4 percent of the population in the
United States to have multiracial backgrounds. Although this may not sound like a big number,
Americans have had to adapt to being more culturally competent. Cultural competence is, The process
by which individuals and systems respond respectfully and effectively to people of all cultures,
languages, classes, races, ethnic backgrounds, religions, and other diversity factors in a manner that
recognizes, affirms, and values the worth of individuals, families, and communities and protects and
preserves the dignity of each. The Census Bureau believes that by 2050, nearly fifty percent of
America s population will be minorities. When the civil rights movement began in the 1950 s, African
Americans and other minority groups tried to alert the United States their distinct identities. They felt
that their long history of oppression especially in the United States had to come to an end. Immigrants
who come to this country bring certain qualities that Americans do not obtain. Whether it is their
language, religion, culture or even different political backgrounds. As our nation grows more diverse it

Michelle Obama Leadership Model
Leadership is a skill that one is not born with, but is acquired through life experiences and
interactions. Michelle Obama perseverance to attain a higher education, a concept foreign in her
family, shows the dedication and determination a leader must have. As a leader, it is imperative that
once you establish a mission or purpose, that you, as well as your team members, worked to
accomplish that goal. Because of her perseverance, Michelle can be best identified as a pace setter,
innovative and charismatic leader because through the various projects she undertook as her role of
First Lady, she influences people through personality, inspires passion and the need to be active in one
s own community. For example, this can be seen in her role as Executive Director for the Chicago
office of Public Allies where she mobilized youths and community to get active and set fundraising
records for the organization that still stood 12 years after she left. Michelle influences people through
her own success. Having attended Harvard Law, becoming a top attorney and later the first African
American First Lady, she has influenced youths across the nation to believe that anything is possible,
so long as they have faith. In accordance to the Leadership Theories, Michelle Obama can be
categorized under the Authentic Leadership Approach; for these leaders, their leadership is genuine,
develops over time, transparent and driven by moral values (Komives, Lucas , McMahon). Projects

Sticky cost behavior: Evidence from small and medium sized companies

1 February 2013
Abstract: This paper investigates whether cost stickiness occurs in small and medium sized companies
using a sample of Italian non listed and listed firms during the period 1999 2008. Our findings show
that cost stickiness emerges only for the total cost of labor and not for the selling, general, and
administrative (SG A) costs, the cost of goods sold and the operating costs. Stickiness of the operating
costs is only detected in the sample of listed companies. We further contribute to the literature on
sticky cost behavior by discussing critical issues ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Further, the majority of prior studies in the cost stickiness literature rely on data from listed companies
based in the United States. Our study is the first that we are aware of that documents cost stickiness in
Italian firms, thereby adding to our understanding of cost behavior in a developed economy previously
not examined. Third, we propose an overview of the literature in which we highlight the key dilemmas
from the extant debate and the research approach adopted by past studies. The empirical part of our
study employs data collected from the financial statements of Italian companies in the period 1999
2008. The sample includes companies belonging to the manufacturing and trading industry, while we
additionally examine a sample of listed companies for comparative purposes. We conduct several tests
of cost stickiness for different typologies of costs and a variety of determinants. Our findings
document the presence of stickiness only for the total cost of labor, whereas stickiness of the operating
costs emerges only in the sample composed by listed companies. Our results are aligned with prior
findings only when listed companies are examined. However, when we apply the same tests to SMEs,
the results are no more consistent with previous studies. The remainder of the paper is organized as
follows. Section 2 provides a literature review aimed to position our paper in the extant debate on cost

Female Roles In The Oresteia By Aeschylus
Female Roles in The Oresteia That woman she manoeuvers like a man (Aeschylus 103). This quote
from the Greek tragedy, The Oresteia by Aeschylus, introduces readers to a theme of the piece: the
role of women. Furthermore, this tragedy gives the reader a view on how women played a role in
ancient Greek society. Additionally, it highlights the reaction, from Greek men, to women in
leadership roles. In the following, you will find a historical account of the role of Greek women, and
how Aeschylus shows a different role of women. Therefore, by reading The Oresteia we can get a
glimpse into what characteristics Greek women embodied. Also, through the actions of female
characters such as Clytemnestra and Electra, we see examples of women ... Show more content on

After reading this quote, one can see that even a murder by a woman is seen as having less weight.
Despite the cruelty of the murder, Clytemnestra killed her husband / king to get revenge for him
killing their daughter years prior. Essentially, King Agamemnon sacrificed his and Clytemnestra s
daughter for better luck in a war. Furthermore, he was never punished for this killing. Therefore,
seeing that the male led judicial system failed to uphold justice, Clytemnestra took it into her own
hands. Overall, this shows a woman recognizing that justice was being put to the wayside and taking
action to make it right. Now, Aeschylus did not explain if Clytemnestra tried to advocate for her
husband to be punished for her late daughters killing. But, he does make clear that she is not happy
with the way in which the counsel dealt with it. Not surprisingly, a woman in charge of a kingdom
would not be taken so lightly in ancient Greece. As a clear example of this, Clytemnestra s taking of
the reins while the king was at war, was met with a fair amount of backlash. Although not publically
scrutinized, Clytemnestra was seen as not fit for the position because of her gender. In fact, this is very
clear when news of the war ending reached Argos. When the watchman told the queen about Troy
being beaten, Clytemnestra took the news directly to the counsel. When she relayed the message, she
was met with skepticism. For example, a chorus

Features Of Space Expansion
Feature Space Expansion
Firstly the feature space would be increased in dimension, by the addition of new features. Due to the
analysis done on feature production, it was noted that by generalising feature production and
consumption (in the neural network), a lot of time could be saved in the long run. This meant when the
feature space was to be expanded, it would be important to create the feature production in a scalable
manner.
Neural Network Expansion
Secondly, the neural network would be extended from a simple input output neural network to one
with a variable number of inputs, layers, and hidden neurons. The addition of more layers would allow
more complex planes to partition the feature space as sometimes simple planes cannot adequately
classify data. For example, consider the classification of a data set similar to the output of a XOR gate.
Consider four input data points of (0, 0), (0, 1), (1, 0), and (1, 1), with respective outputs 0,1,1,0,
where 1 represents positive classification, and 0 represents negative classification. This provides an
example of a classification which has very high error when classified without a hidden layer. This is
because a linear combination of the input coefficients can only define a partition which is a straight
line.
Any linear partition of these inputs can at most correctly classify three of four data points. This is
because the data points are linearly inseparable. However, with a more complex neural network, such

This shows her loyalty to Bill Sikes and maybe Fagin and this could be a problem for her and Oliver
later on in the novel.
Nancy is seen rescuing Oliver many times but then dragging him back into trouble just when he is
about to get out. She is confused because at first she kidnaps Oliver and, then, she protects him from
Bullseye
(Bill s dog). Then Nancy collects Oliver from Fagin so he can be used on a burglary with Bill Sikes.
Then Nancy has a discussion with Fagin and later overhears a conversation between him and Monks
about Olivier which again changes her mind! Nancy then visits Rose Maylie and then a few days later
she is planning to visit her again but Sikes won t let her out of the house. After meeting Brownlow and
Rose, Fagin suspects something, and Nancy is brutally murdered by the psychotic Bill Sikes!
Nancy is such an important character in the novel Oliver Twist for many reasons, the most important
being that because she helps Oliver escape from the criminal underworld she is risking her own life to
save his. She gets whacked by Bill Sikes for trying to help Oliver and trying to hide him and it is at
this point she is realised as an important character. It s like that saying everyone gets famous after they
die! Nancy is important to the plot development because she is shown as double sided in the novel but

Where I live, people are angry, even apoplectic, and for good reason: our communities and ecosystems
have been destroyed by a toxic mixture of neoliberalism, racism, cultural degradation and militarism,

Northwest Indiana, like hundreds of communities throughout the American Rust Belt, was at one time
an industrial powerhouse. But those days are long gone. Steel mills that once employed over 125,000
union steelworkers in the mid 1980s, today employ less than 35,000 in an area stretching from
Chicago to South Bend. Overall, millions of manufacturing jobs are gone. And from the looks of it,

Here, there are two levels of racism white people must examine: a) personal racism, and b) structural

level, it s simple to rectify peoples views and behaviors. On an institutional level, the processes are
much more complicated and challenging. Without doubt, a combination of popular education,
symbolic actions, creative enterprises, direct action campaigns, alternative electoral parties and civil

the Left is broke. Thus there are few material resources for such endeavors. Until this dynamic is

The Inside A Long Corridor
I stared in wonder, inside was a long corridor, lit by a glowing light, to the left were weapon racks and
to the right was an alchemy lab. Beyond that to the left was an underground bathing pool with 5 built
in seats, continually refilled by water streaming in from above. Opposite this were a full set of forging,
smelting and weapon crafting gear, beyond that was an alchemy table and a set of empty book shelves.
I was in love with the place already and determined it would be my home. Opening a locked door at

area and the other were wardrobes. Behind the bed was further water falling gently from the ceiling

seconds my pussy was moist and lubricated enough that I could start the machine, a few drops fell into
the bucket below. With that I unlocked the brake, within seconds the shaft moved against my crotch,
licking at my sensitive lips a dozen times every second. Animalistic moans echoed from me as I was
overwhelmed by ecstasy. As I moaned in bliss, my shapely breasts danced to the rhythm of the

Developing The Skills For Treating Mental Health Of Others...
Developing the skills to treat mental health of others is exponentially more difficult without the
support from a strong training about a human s physical health. As one substrate binds to an enzyme a
cog turns causing a chain reaction to the whole body, but the body is more than just a machine; it has a
soul that encompasses emotions and thoughts. Immersed in my biochemistry textbook, I looked for
the bridge between the text and my own body. My curiosity sky rocketed; my mind is set on
expanding and applying my bank of knowledge. Not for a split second would I turn back, this pursuit
embodies my desires. From these pages, I wish to translate this fuel to empower others; for them to go
home from the clinic with security and the highest trust from me. I began my quest for building that
bridge by walking towards the patient s room at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center with Dr. Morkis, a
primary care physician. The worn out look of hopelessness was pasted on each patient s face, no one
wanted to be there. The first patient, Ron, walked in gritting his teeth and his fists clenched. Once
Morkis spoke to Ron, his utter rage shrunk to a mellow rest. My eyes dilated in disbelief as if I had
just witnessed magic. Morkis formed a deep loving connection with speeds I had never seen. My mind
was racing for answers͖ how did she do that? The informal approach in the conversations between
Morkis and her patients showed a great deal of compassion and trust. He shared precious personal

Civil Government, By Henry David Thoreau
Citizen Obligation to Government The establishment of the United States of America s government
was of the people, by the people, for the people. In Resistance to Civil Government, Henry David
Thoreau through the supplementing of rhetoric devices perfectly argues the ineffectiveness of the
government. In addition to outlining the hypocrisy and corruption , Thoreau courageously dots the
short comings, responsibilities, as well as, expanding on effective and deliberate initiatives citizens
must initiate to implement a more stable and trustworthy government.
To start his argument, Thoreau explains the initial duties of the government permitted as a society.
From the start, the government was only the mode which the people have chosen to execute their will
is (said to be) equally liable to be abused and perverted before the people can act through it for it has
become run by a few individuals using it (the standing government) as their tool (Thoreau 843).
Thoreau, through the use of special diction such as inexpedient and chosen, explains the
ineffectiveness of the government, due to the fact that the will of the people no longer the main focus
of the government. In the point of view of Thoreau, it will greatly benefit the people to never allow
this government, run by few, to itself further any enterprise (Thoreau 843). Society as a whole must
reject any legislation founded on the benefit of the government alone. Thoreau uses anaphor as he list

It is tough to not be your biggest critic, but it is better to leave that job to others. Also, actors should
treat auditions like rehearsals, as if you already have the role and are going to rehearsal. Apparently
this is a commonly used tactic that many actors use to keep calm in an audition setting. Another tip
was that if you risk failure, you can make truthful discoveries about yourself or a character. Failures
become the struggles that lead to success; the word, failure, carries more weight than it should, and
most failures are actually setbacks. The only time you truly fail is when you quit because you become
incapable of success. The final piece of advice that I found helpful was to find other creative outlets.
In a field like acting, the majority of the job is going to auditions and waiting. Therefore, it becomes
imperative that you find ways to use your creativity, rather than waiting around for someone to give
you a part. Writing your own material can showcase yourself well, especially if you do not have
representation. It is ok to get a little lost, to ask yourself deep questions, and to not have all the
answers. What matters most is that you never lose sight of your

How Did The Plague Affect Athenian Culture
A sickness which started in the head then developed to affect every part of the body, is an under rated,
mild description of the Plague of Athens. Thucydides explains that the plague not only harshly
affected men s physical bodies, but also their actions. People began to become fearful of becoming
infected, which caused them to avoid visiting friends and family members who were afflicted with the
disease. Furthermore, the plague also negatively affected the character of the Athenian people. The
intense fear of having the disease even motivated men to become indifferent to every rule of religion
or of law : individuals began to act self indulgently because they believed that they would not be alive
long enough to be brought to trial or punished.

Assessment And Treatment Of Adductor Spasmodic Dysphonia
Assessment and Treatment of Adductor Spasmodic Dysphonia Julia Mangum East Carolina University
Assessment and Treatment of Adductor Spasmodic Dysphonia Adductor spasmodic dysphonia
(ADSD) is a voice disorder due to central motor processing abnormalities which result in decreased
control of the laryngeal muscles (Blitzer, 2010). The idiopathic disorder is characterized by
involuntary spasms of the laryngeal muscles controlling vocal fold adduction (National Spasmodic
Dysphonia Association, 2012). The dysphonic characteristics presented by patients with ADSD are
described as strained, strangled, and effortful due to irregular adductions of the vocal folds and the
occlusion of air through the vocal tract during phonation(Blitzer,2010; Cannito, Doiuchi, Murry
Woodson, 2012). Patients with muscle tension dysphonia (MTD) present with similar perceptual vocal
characteristics however, treatment for the two disorders is quite different. Speech language
pathologists often have difficulty diagnosing and distinguishing between ADSD, a neurological
disorder, and MTD, a functional voice disorder (Rees et al., 2007). Correct diagnosis is important and
objective measures, such as spectral analysis, are more sufficient in distinguishing the two
disorders(Rees et al., 2007). ADSD has a neurologic etiology but the exact cause is still unknown (Lee
et al., 2003). Tanner et al. (2009) identified mumps, meningitis, tremor, cancer, and convulsive
behaviors as factors that

Afghanistan and Politics
An Examination of Nation Building in Afghanistan and East Timor Afghanistan is a shattered society.
The participants in the Bonn Conference have set for the leaders and people of their country the
formidable challenge of consolidating the peace process in less than three years. But it will take much
more than 36 months to heal the wounds left by 23 years of war. The process of healing has started,
however, and the members of the international community must be careful not to allow that process to
reverse itself. This requires from all, a continued commitment and determination to stay the course. It
also requires that realistic and achievable objectives be set.

But as Kofi Annan reported on March 18, 2002, it will take more than a quick fix to repair the years of
trauma and war that have wrecked this extremely poor country.
In recent years, the UN has been entrusted with providing assistance to several countries in post
conflict situation, including the newly independent East Timor, now renamed Timor Leste. The
experiences of the United Nations in East Timor have shown that the reestablishment, at a minimum,
of basic judicial functions must be among a mission s top priorities from the earliest stages of
deployment. Looking into the role of the UN intervention in East Timor, it is possible to apply the
lessons learned in the violence wrought country on the current situation at Afghanistan to create a
sustainable environment for constructive nation building.
Relief Efforts: The United Nations in Afghanistan
Many United Nations agencies are working together to help rebuild war torn Afghanistan. Among
them are the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the United Nations Children s Fund,
and the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan. These agencies work tirelessly to provide
refugee assistance, rehabilitation, infrastructure rebuilding, and humanitarian aid to one of the poorest
countries in the world. As the official war against the Taliban has subsided, and as refugees have
begun the long process of returning

Energy Consumption Before The 50 s
The first interesting thing that I learned from the lecture is related to the annual residential total energy
consumption from before the 50s and until the 00s. I expected the energy consumption per household
to increase with time, because technology is developing and it requires more energy than it did before
and that was my assumption. However, I was surprised to know that the energy consumption before
the 50s was at its maximum then it decreased until it reached its minimum in the 80s and increased
after that. Houses built before the 50s were inefficient in their energy consumption resulting in energy
consumption being at its maximum. Nevertheless, houses built in the 80s were small compared to
current houses and therefore consumed less

What Does Hip Hop Combo Mean To Me
I have danced for the past 9 years and have and still love every minute of it. For how much i have
learned over the past 9 years i have also learned a lot in this class. So far my favorite has been the hip
hop combo that my group did. It has been my favorite because I really liked the music, choreography
and style: and I don t really enjoy hip hop that much so I was surprised that I really enjoyed that
combo. I also like the 3 days of fitness, because it motivated me in so way to try my best and I feel
that I improved the workouts that we did over the 3 days. The bones and muscles were cool to learn
about because I think that it is important to know which muscle/bone is where and if you get injured
you have a better idea of what you injured

Why Poor Children Are More Likely To Become Poor Readers
Why poor children are more likely to become poor readers: the early years by Jennifer Buckingham*,
Robyn Beaman and Kevin Wheldall. In this literature, they discuss low socio economic disadvantage
and poor early literacy. Children from disadvantaged families are less likely to have experiences that
encourage the development of fundamental skills for reading acquisition, specifically phonological
awareness, vocabulary and oral language. The relationship between socio economic disadvantage and
poor reading ability is one of the most enduring problems in education. Socio economic disadvantage
is a relative concept referring to low socio economic status, which is usually defined by income,
occupation, education, or any combination of these. (Beaman, Buckingham, and Wheldall 428). This
analytical proves and evaluates elements in this journal such as its claim, empirical data and its
mention of opposing sides to state its effectiveness in relaying the message. ... Show more content on

When I think of poor children, I think of kids living in poverty having very limited amount of food,
clothes, education. The early year describes children before pre school. The writers claim that children
from disadvantage or poor families are more likely to become poor readers, prior to them entering
school. Low quality early home literacy environments suppress children s genetic potential, increasing
the risk a child will struggle to learn to read. In addition, children from low socio economic status
backgrounds are more likely to have infant health outcomes associated with cognitive impairments,
such as preterm birth and low birth weight, and are less likely to attend preschool

David Hume s Philosophy Of Bad Faith
Jessica, great post!
I really liked your description of the Bad Faith video. It was interesting to hear about what bad faith
actually was, and for you to reiterate my believe that having good faith and optimism will take one to
their true destiny! Also, I like how you described your perspective on Hume s philosophy of identity. I
agree with you, identity is a function of the brain and of one s mental reasoning which is not always
supported by reality. One can see themselves a different way due to their own experiences and formed
perceptions; nonetheless, another individual can see that same person in a completely different light
from their own experiences with them/formed opinions of them.

1984 Canadian Identity Analysis
The biggest change of the identity of Canada was definitely in 1984. Bryan Adams, Marc Garneau and
Linda Thom are names most Canadian people would and should know due to these Canadian role
models contributions to altering the identity of their country forever, all in 1984.
Bryan Adams was an amazing singer/songwriter who took stage and definitely changed Canadian
identity for the future in 1984. Bryan Adams sold over one million album copies in Canada alone and
over eight millions copies worldwide. This artist was the first to do something no other had done
before and that was to become a successful Canadian international superstar. Before 1984 there was
no hope or even a chance given to Canadians to sing at an international level. But In 1984 Bryan gave
birth of hope that they one day could also be a superstar. He also allowed other Canadians to be
noticed and made successful. This is why 1984 changed Canadian identity greatly because it paved the
way for this country to be given the opportunity to be known for singers like Justin Beiber, Drake and
Shawn Mendes.

Canada s summer Olympics gold medal count plummeted in 1980 and previous years before. There
was not much hope in Canada in the summer Olympic. They were just seen as participants never to
reach the podium. The number of medals being won remained scarce and the low numbers continued
for many years. Until Linda Thom changed all of that when she became the first Canadian woman to
win gold at a summer Olympics since 1928 when she competed in the pistol shooting event. Not just
Linda but many Canadians that year had turned the tables for future generations. Other countries see
Canadian participants after 1984 as the team to beat . This is just one of many examples how the year
1984 changed Canadian

The Goal Of The Anger Principle
The goal of the Anger Principle is to rationalize why an individual is angry and calculate the extent of
their anger within a situation. When trying to decipher whether someone is angry, I look for a few key
indicators, such as antisocial body language and aggressive verbal language. Antisocial body language
includes pacing, rubbing your head, cupping your fist with your other hand, shaking or trembling,
clenching your jaws or grinding your teeth, and sweating, especially of the palms. Aggressive verbal
language includes getting sarcastic, losing your sense of humor, raising your voice, speaking
abrasively, and beginning to yell, scream, or cry. Many of these signs were present in my various
cases. Incidentally, case one is interesting because feelings of anger weren t associated with this
decision until 3 years later. Now, whenever I am reminded, I begin to clench my jaw and rub my head.
Also, I m not very likely to speak when I am angry, but when I do I am sarcastic and without a sense
of humor, i.e., I ll say I was such a smart kid, of course, skateboards can take you everywhere. If
anyone else attempts to make a joke about my situation, I d blankly stared at them, conveying my
anger by rejecting humor about the situation. As for case five, my friend is a big fan of the former vice
present, Joe Biden. So, when she told me about how she felt after receiving her grade, she reported
that she was sweating, shaking, and cupping her first with her other hand. Even as she

  • 2. Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Observation On April 28, 2017, I attended the School of Music s Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. The program last about two hours and had a ten minute intermission. This non ticketed event was held at Morgan Hall in the Bailey Performing Arts Center on Kennesaw State University s Kennesaw campus. The program consisted of three unique musical pieces performed by the renowned Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Before the concert began, I was able to observe the audience members outside of the entrance doors. Unlike the other Kennesaw State concerts that I attended, there was an extremely large and diverse crowd dressed formally. The doors opened fifteen minutes before the concert began and an usher escorted me to the second row in front of the stage. As the performance began, felt a formal and prestigious atmosphere within the crowd. I began to copy my neighbor s etiquette in order to fit in with the audience. ... The dramatic crescendos and decrescendos really brought out the emotions of each piece. The first piece performed was called Don Juan (1888 1889) and started off fast paced and suspenseful. Composed by Richard Strauss (1864 1949), the piece had a lot of dissonance within it. There were times when the piece would slow down gradually then suddenly speed up, returning back to its original pacing. Each instrumental section could be heard precisely and no one section overwhelmed another. The conductor stood out the most during the performance and excellently controlled the pacing and tone of the piece. His exotic movements seemed excessive at first, but I began to realize that he was simply passionate about the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Dr Malcolm Clemens Young Summary Why do you believe that the Reverend Dr. Malcolm Clemens Young is addressing Christians in his discussion about wealth inequality? Reverend Young addresses Christians about wealth inequality as he states that Jesus cared for the poor and consequently, followers of the faith have an obligation to do the same. What assumptions is he making about religious people? Dr. Young assumes that religious individuals, and more specifically Chrisitans, are seperate entities from the top 5% of wage earners. Moreover, the author implies that these extremely wealthy individuals are materialistic and devoid of the morals and values that are inherent in the less fortunate. Young states that it is the working poor (who)... contribute a great deal more to society than the highly paid people who merely move money around. I believe that when one has a strong set of ethical beliefs, they will care more about society s issues, including income inequality. LABOR RELATIONS Thirty one years ago, when President Ronald Reagan threatened to fire approximately 13,000 air traffic controllers unless they called off an illegal strike, the president not only transformed his presidency, but also shaped the labor relations in the United States. The Professional Air Traffic Controllers Organization (PATCO) strike of August 3. 1981 was a remarkable day in the history of this country. Under the direction of union president, Robert E. As a direct result, the FAA fired fifty two controllers, of whom forty six were later reinstated to their positions. The FAA also suspended nearly on thousand more controllers for a short period of time. As a result of the strike, Bailey s tenure as executive director of PATCO came to an end when his position was abolished. Subsequently, John F. Leyden was chosen as president, a position that he held for the next ten years. In addition, Assistant Secretary of Labor W. J. Usery disqualified PATCO as a bargaining agent for 126 days. The union was later reinstated by Usery and it won exclusive bargaining rights election in 1972. In July and August of 1976 tensions ran high again after the Civil Service Commissioner declined to reclassified controllers to a higher salary grade. The result was that PATCO staged slowdowns for five days at the nation s busiest airports. Its tactics proved successful when on January 13, 1977, the Commission reversed itself and increased controllers wages (Northrup 170). In preparations for subsequent strikes, in 1977 PATCO established a strike fund known as the National Controller Subsistence Fund. 15 percent of the membership dues were ... There is about 2.5 million SF of retail space in major centers located within five miles of the site. About 40% of this space is within three miles of the site. The further away the center is from the redevelopment site the less likely it will provide competition with Truman s Marketplace. In our opinion, retail centers such as Ward Parkway, Stateline Station and those in Leawood are far enough away that they would serve a separate market. Even much of the space within three miles of the site is predominately older, poorly maintained product that may not effectively compete with the proposed project. Analysis Of Mill On The Floss By George Eliot This research report reviews scholarly criticism on the much debated character MAGGIE TULLIVER from the book Mill on the floss written by George Eliot. The project I propose analyses Maggie s character as a whole. The report will begin by discussing the critics point of view of various reasons responsible for the death of Maggie Tulliver. The report then focuses on how society and how her relationships lead to her downfall from the point of view of various critics. A part of my report also critically analyses the death of Maggie Tulliver. Lastly my report discusses about the inner conflicts of Maggie and how those conflicts eventually lead to her fate. Maggie suppresses herself in the patriarchal system and struggles to make a place for herself and to find an identity of her own. In her article Maggie Tulliver s long suicide1974 Elizabeth Deeds Ermarth says that Maggie eventually believes the lie, that she is inferior, or wrong, or not to be taken seriously. She learned to collaborate in her own defeat . ELIZABETH ERMARTH also comments on how society affects Maggie since she was shaped to be a child by the family pieties, it is fitting that her life ends in a reversion to childhood where her energies to be an adult, tragically, are unneeded. Moving on to her relationships, Ermarth analyses that her relationships with Mr.Tulliver and her brother Tom Tulliver play a very important role in her being a selfless person. • 17. The Development Of Rural Development 3.2 Rural Development According to Oyeleye, D.A.(1987) he defines rural development as process in which development in social infrastructures such as better roads, water supply, electricity, schools and hospitals spreads out from the urban centres or communities and moves into the rural villages and communities. Abumere S.I. (2002) stated that if rural development is defined as a means to help improve the physical, cultural, social and economic status or life of the rural people then that means that infrastructures such as roads, clean water, electricity, telecommunication and other facilities must be carefully planned and delivered to the rural people in a consistent manner. It doesn t matter whether these infrastructures are built from the urban centres and move into the rural areas or vice versa. The delivery mechanisms must be very consistent. Inorder for any country to develope and progress both socially and economically, it must have the necessary infrastructures that are needed to facilitate such development, in both urban and rural areas of the country. However studies have shown that in most developing countries, rural areas/villages are mostly neglected therefore these rural areas don t have these basic infrastructures that are needed for development. Therefore there is a huge demand for building infrastructures into rural areas. That is very true for Papua New Guinea where the bulks of the population live in the rural areas. A Brief Note On Diabetes And Low Physical Activity Diabetes is one of the most common non communicable diseases in the world with currently 347 million people living with the condition and was the direct cause of approximately 1.5 million deaths in 2012 (WHO). Insulin is what allows glucose to enter the body s cells for energy so without it, too much glucose stays in the blood stream. The insulin is what regulates blood sugar and without it, it can cause damage to the body. It is said that leguminous plants should be a key component in a healthy diabetic diet to control and manage the patient s diabetes. It is said that a serving a day of legumes (1/2 a cup) can have positive effects on health, this being the minimum that should be consumed. Mirmiran et al (2014) claims that this food commodity is a supportive functional food that should be permanent in a diabetic s diet because of their low glycaemic index, high fibre and phytochemical content that will help reduce the risk of complications associated with spikes in blood glucose. Despite the fact that Plath denied that it was in anyway autobiographical, the reader cannot fail to notice the similarities between the life of the persona and Plath. Throughout the poem we are faced which a strain of imagery; imagery which shows the personas extreme anger through connotations to being in a concentration camp: Chuffing me off like a Jew. The persona feels trapped in the moment of her father s death, and she feels mentally and physically unable to move on and grow despite the death occurring 30 years ago: Black shoe in which I have lived like a foot The metaphor created here is representative of the pain her father causes for her. The implications of this have caused her to be crushed, tortured and twisted, as she has been held captive by the death for since she was 10 years old; this prohibiting her from developing into an adult. She refers to her father has black shoe which conveys through the word choice of black that he is evil, but it also has connotations to death. The reader is also shocked to see that she feels her father has fed off her existence since his death: For thirty years, poor and white The contrast between the speaker being white and her father being black suggest that she see s herself as the polar opposite of him. It also suggests that she has been drained of all life, this is the introduction to the vampire imagery we see elsewhere in the poem. This imagery makes clear that her father haunts her with her statements like bit my pretty red heart which has connotations to her innocence being lost due to his death this is conveyed through the word choice of red which suggests youthfulness. While no one wishes to think him or herself vain, most people are affected by what the media portrays as a standard for beauty. This does not simply affect adolescents, but older generations as well. A Harvard study showed that up to two thirds of underweight 12 year old girls considered themselves to be too fat (Fox). The media portrays this standard of beauty as adequate and attainable. When one passes by the Victoria s Secret store and glances at the massive posters of a beautiful model, he or she probably admires the perfection. But is it a fair representation of the average American woman? No. Advertisements such as Victoria s Secret have been criticized for projecting an unrealistic image of what women should look like to females of all ages. Ads like Victoria s Secret seem to target college age women. I will analyze two advertisements, Victoria s Secret and Dove, aimed at different types of women and age groups, paying special attention to audience, purpose and context to support my ... Mailer seemed fascinated by the different techniques each fighter used in order to try and win the fight. Paret had an unusual ability to take a punch . Griffith had a more traditional approach to boxing, getting in the most hits as possible. Juliek brought his violin with him because it s like his hope, it s the only item he has that will make him feel better. The book states, Those were my thoughts when I heard the sound of a violin... Who was this madman who played the violin, here at the edge of his own grave? Or was it a hallucination? It had to be Juliek. He was playing a fragment of a Beethoven concerto. Never before had I heard such a beautiful sound. In such silence. When Juliek was playing the violin, it was his hope or his life. Juliek was still alive and his violin was still in one piece. • 23. The Importance Of Cultural Diversity In The United States The United States is a melting pot now more than ever. The biggest reason for this change is largely due from immigration and birthrates. Over the past thirty years immigrants who have come to American have been primarily non Europeans including Asians, and people from South and Central America. In the year 2000, the United States census recorded 2.4 percent of the population in the United States to have multiracial backgrounds. Although this may not sound like a big number, Americans have had to adapt to being more culturally competent. Cultural competence is, The process by which individuals and systems respond respectfully and effectively to people of all cultures, languages, classes, races, ethnic backgrounds, religions, and other diversity factors in a manner that recognizes, affirms, and values the worth of individuals, families, and communities and protects and preserves the dignity of each. The Census Bureau believes that by 2050, nearly fifty percent of America s population will be minorities. When the civil rights movement began in the 1950 s, African Americans and other minority groups tried to alert the United States their distinct identities. They felt that their long history of oppression especially in the United States had to come to an end. Immigrants who come to this country bring certain qualities that Americans do not obtain. Michelle Obama perseverance to attain a higher education, a concept foreign in her family, shows the dedication and determination a leader must have. As a leader, it is imperative that once you establish a mission or purpose, that you, as well as your team members, worked to accomplish that goal. Because of her perseverance, Michelle can be best identified as a pace setter, innovative and charismatic leader because through the various projects she undertook as her role of First Lady, she influences people through personality, inspires passion and the need to be active in one s own community. For example, this can be seen in her role as Executive Director for the Chicago office of Public Allies where she mobilized youths and community to get active and set fundraising records for the organization that still stood 12 years after she left. Michelle influences people through her own success. Having attended Harvard Law, becoming a top attorney and later the first African American First Lady, she has influenced youths across the nation to believe that anything is possible, so long as they have faith. Our findings show that cost stickiness emerges only for the total cost of labor and not for the selling, general, and administrative (SG A) costs, the cost of goods sold and the operating costs. Stickiness of the operating costs is only detected in the sample of listed companies. We further contribute to the literature on sticky cost behavior by discussing critical issues ... Our study is the first that we are aware of that documents cost stickiness in Italian firms, thereby adding to our understanding of cost behavior in a developed economy previously not examined. Third, we propose an overview of the literature in which we highlight the key dilemmas from the extant debate and the research approach adopted by past studies. The empirical part of our study employs data collected from the financial statements of Italian companies in the period 1999 2008. The sample includes companies belonging to the manufacturing and trading industry, while we additionally examine a sample of listed companies for comparative purposes. We conduct several tests of cost stickiness for different typologies of costs and a variety of determinants. Our findings document the presence of stickiness only for the total cost of labor, whereas stickiness of the operating costs emerges only in the sample composed by listed companies. Our results are aligned with prior findings only when listed companies are examined. However, when we apply the same tests to SMEs, the results are no more consistent with previous studies. This quote from the Greek tragedy, The Oresteia by Aeschylus, introduces readers to a theme of the piece: the role of women. Furthermore, this tragedy gives the reader a view on how women played a role in ancient Greek society. Additionally, it highlights the reaction, from Greek men, to women in leadership roles. In the following, you will find a historical account of the role of Greek women, and how Aeschylus shows a different role of women. Therefore, by reading The Oresteia we can get a glimpse into what characteristics Greek women embodied. After reading this quote, one can see that even a murder by a woman is seen as having less weight. Despite the cruelty of the murder, Clytemnestra killed her husband / king to get revenge for him killing their daughter years prior. Essentially, King Agamemnon sacrificed his and Clytemnestra s daughter for better luck in a war. Furthermore, he was never punished for this killing. Therefore, seeing that the male led judicial system failed to uphold justice, Clytemnestra took it into her own hands. Overall, this shows a woman recognizing that justice was being put to the wayside and taking action to make it right. Now, Aeschylus did not explain if Clytemnestra tried to advocate for her husband to be punished for her late daughters killing. But, he does make clear that she is not happy with the way in which the counsel dealt with it. Not surprisingly, a woman in charge of a kingdom would not be taken so lightly in ancient Greece. As a clear example of this, Clytemnestra s taking of the reins while the king was at war, was met with a fair amount of backlash. Although not publically scrutinized, Clytemnestra was seen as not fit for the position because of her gender. In fact, this is very clear when news of the war ending reached Argos. When the watchman told the queen about Troy being beaten, Clytemnestra took the news directly to the counsel. When she relayed the message, she was met with skepticism. For example, a chorus ... • 28. Features Of Space Expansion Feature Space Expansion Firstly the feature space would be increased in dimension, by the addition of new features. Due to the analysis done on feature production, it was noted that by generalising feature production and consumption (in the neural network), a lot of time could be saved in the long run. This meant when the feature space was to be expanded, it would be important to create the feature production in a scalable manner. Neural Network Expansion Secondly, the neural network would be extended from a simple input output neural network to one with a variable number of inputs, layers, and hidden neurons. The addition of more layers would allow more complex planes to partition the feature space as sometimes simple planes cannot adequately classify data. For example, consider the classification of a data set similar to the output of a XOR gate. Consider four input data points of (0, 0), (0, 1), (1, 0), and (1, 1), with respective outputs 0,1,1,0, where 1 represents positive classification, and 0 represents negative classification. This provides an example of a classification which has very high error when classified without a hidden layer. This is because a linear combination of the input coefficients can only define a partition which is a straight line. Any linear partition of these inputs can at most correctly classify three of four data points. This is because the data points are linearly inseparable. However, with a more complex neural network, such as one with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In addition to outlining the hypocrisy and corruption , Thoreau courageously dots the short comings, responsibilities, as well as, expanding on effective and deliberate initiatives citizens must initiate to implement a more stable and trustworthy government. To start his argument, Thoreau explains the initial duties of the government permitted as a society. From the start, the government was only the mode which the people have chosen to execute their will is (said to be) equally liable to be abused and perverted before the people can act through it for it has become run by a few individuals using it (the standing government) as their tool (Thoreau 843). Thoreau, through the use of special diction such as inexpedient and chosen, explains the ineffectiveness of the government, due to the fact that the will of the people no longer the main focus of the government. In the point of view of Thoreau, it will greatly benefit the people to never allow this government, run by few, to itself further any enterprise (Thoreau 843). Another tip was that if you risk failure, you can make truthful discoveries about yourself or a character. Failures become the struggles that lead to success; the word, failure, carries more weight than it should, and most failures are actually setbacks. The only time you truly fail is when you quit because you become incapable of success. The final piece of advice that I found helpful was to find other creative outlets. • 42. Assessment And Treatment Of Adductor Spasmodic Dysphonia Assessment and Treatment of Adductor Spasmodic Dysphonia Julia Mangum East Carolina University Assessment and Treatment of Adductor Spasmodic Dysphonia Adductor spasmodic dysphonia (ADSD) is a voice disorder due to central motor processing abnormalities which result in decreased control of the laryngeal muscles (Blitzer, 2010). The idiopathic disorder is characterized by involuntary spasms of the laryngeal muscles controlling vocal fold adduction (National Spasmodic Dysphonia Association, 2012). The dysphonic characteristics presented by patients with ADSD are described as strained, strangled, and effortful due to irregular adductions of the vocal folds and the occlusion of air through the vocal tract during phonation(Blitzer,2010; Cannito, Doiuchi, Murry Woodson, 2012). Patients with muscle tension dysphonia (MTD) present with similar perceptual vocal characteristics however, treatment for the two disorders is quite different. Speech language pathologists often have difficulty diagnosing and distinguishing between ADSD, a neurological disorder, and MTD, a functional voice disorder (Rees et al., 2007). Correct diagnosis is important and objective measures, such as spectral analysis, are more sufficient in distinguishing the two disorders(Rees et al., 2007). ADSD has a neurologic etiology but the exact cause is still unknown (Lee et al., 2003). Tanner et al. (2009) identified mumps, meningitis, tremor, cancer, and convulsive behaviors as factors that ... • 43. Essay Afghanistan and Politics Afghanistan and Politics An Examination of Nation Building in Afghanistan and East Timor Afghanistan is a shattered society. The participants in the Bonn Conference have set for the leaders and people of their country the formidable challenge of consolidating the peace process in less than three years. But it will take much more than 36 months to heal the wounds left by 23 years of war. The process of healing has started, however, and the members of the international community must be careful not to allow that process to reverse itself. This requires from all, a continued commitment and determination to stay the course. It also requires that realistic and achievable objectives be set. ~Kofi Annan, Report of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But as Kofi Annan reported on March 18, 2002, it will take more than a quick fix to repair the years of trauma and war that have wrecked this extremely poor country. In recent years, the UN has been entrusted with providing assistance to several countries in post conflict situation, including the newly independent East Timor, now renamed Timor Leste. The experiences of the United Nations in East Timor have shown that the reestablishment, at a minimum, of basic judicial functions must be among a mission s top priorities from the earliest stages of deployment. Looking into the role of the UN intervention in East Timor, it is possible to apply the lessons learned in the violence wrought country on the current situation at Afghanistan to create a sustainable environment for constructive nation building. Relief Efforts: The United Nations in Afghanistan Many United Nations agencies are working together to help rebuild war torn Afghanistan. Among them are the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the United Nations Children s Fund, and the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan. These agencies work tirelessly to provide refugee assistance, rehabilitation, infrastructure rebuilding, and humanitarian aid to one of the poorest countries in the world. As the official war against the Taliban has subsided, and as refugees have begun the long process of returning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Energy Consumption Before The 50 s The first interesting thing that I learned from the lecture is related to the annual residential total energy consumption from before the 50s and until the 00s. I expected the energy consumption per household to increase with time, because technology is developing and it requires more energy than it did before and that was my assumption. However, I was surprised to know that the energy consumption before the 50s was at its maximum then it decreased until it reached its minimum in the 80s and increased after that. Houses built before the 50s were inefficient in their energy consumption resulting in energy consumption being at its maximum. Nevertheless, houses built in the 80s were small compared to current houses and therefore consumed less ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. What Does Hip Hop Combo Mean To Me I have danced for the past 9 years and have and still love every minute of it. For how much i have learned over the past 9 years i have also learned a lot in this class. So far my favorite has been the hip hop combo that my group did. It has been my favorite because I really liked the music, choreography and style: and I don t really enjoy hip hop that much so I was surprised that I really enjoyed that combo. I also like the 3 days of fitness, because it motivated me in so way to try my best and I feel that I improved the workouts that we did over the 3 days. The bones and muscles were cool to learn about because I think that it is important to know which muscle/bone is where and if you get injured you have a better idea of what you injured ... • 46. Why Poor Children Are More Likely To Become Poor Readers Why poor children are more likely to become poor readers: the early years by Jennifer Buckingham*, Robyn Beaman and Kevin Wheldall. In this literature, they discuss low socio economic disadvantage and poor early literacy. Children from disadvantaged families are less likely to have experiences that encourage the development of fundamental skills for reading acquisition, specifically phonological awareness, vocabulary and oral language. The relationship between socio economic disadvantage and poor reading ability is one of the most enduring problems in education. Socio economic disadvantage is a relative concept referring to low socio economic status, which is usually defined by income, occupation, education, or any combination of these. (Beaman, Buckingham, and Wheldall 428). This analytical proves and evaluates elements in this journal such as its claim, empirical data and its mention of opposing sides to state its effectiveness in relaying the message. ... The early year describes children before pre school. The writers claim that children from disadvantage or poor families are more likely to become poor readers, prior to them entering school. Low quality early home literacy environments suppress children s genetic potential, increasing the risk a child will struggle to learn to read. In addition, children from low socio economic status backgrounds are more likely to have infant health outcomes associated with cognitive impairments, such as preterm birth and low birth weight, and are less likely to attend preschool ... • 47. David Hume s Philosophy Of Bad Faith Jessica, great post! I really liked your description of the Bad Faith video. It was interesting to hear about what bad faith actually was, and for you to reiterate my believe that having good faith and optimism will take one to their true destiny! Also, I like how you described your perspective on Hume s philosophy of identity. I agree with you, identity is a function of the brain and of one s mental reasoning which is not always supported by reality. One can see themselves a different way due to their own experiences and formed perceptions; nonetheless, another individual can see that same person in a completely different light from their own experiences with them/formed opinions of them. • 48. 1984 Canadian Identity Analysis The biggest change of the identity of Canada was definitely in 1984. Bryan Adams, Marc Garneau and Linda Thom are names most Canadian people would and should know due to these Canadian role models contributions to altering the identity of their country forever, all in 1984. Bryan Adams was an amazing singer/songwriter who took stage and definitely changed Canadian identity for the future in 1984. Bryan Adams sold over one million album copies in Canada alone and over eight millions copies worldwide. This artist was the first to do something no other had done before and that was to become a successful Canadian international superstar. Before 1984 there was no hope or even a chance given to Canadians to sing at an international level. But In 1984 Bryan gave birth of hope that they one day could also be a superstar. He also allowed other Canadians to be noticed and made successful. This is why 1984 changed Canadian identity greatly because it paved the way for this country to be given the opportunity to be known for singers like Justin Beiber, Drake and Shawn Mendes. In 1984, Marc Garneau contributed to the change in identity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Canada s summer Olympics gold medal count plummeted in 1980 and previous years before. There was not much hope in Canada in the summer Olympic. They were just seen as participants never to reach the podium. The number of medals being won remained scarce and the low numbers continued for many years. Until Linda Thom changed all of that when she became the first Canadian woman to win gold at a summer Olympics since 1928 when she competed in the pistol shooting event. Not just Linda but many Canadians that year had turned the tables for future generations. Other countries see Canadian participants after 1984 as the team to beat . • 49. The Goal Of The Anger Principle The goal of the Anger Principle is to rationalize why an individual is angry and calculate the extent of their anger within a situation. When trying to decipher whether someone is angry, I look for a few key indicators, such as antisocial body language and aggressive verbal language. Antisocial body language includes pacing, rubbing your head, cupping your fist with your other hand, shaking or trembling, clenching your jaws or grinding your teeth, and sweating, especially of the palms. Aggressive verbal language includes getting sarcastic, losing your sense of humor, raising your voice, speaking abrasively, and beginning to yell, scream, or cry. Many of these signs were present in my various cases. Incidentally, case one is interesting because feelings of anger weren t associated with this decision until 3 years later. Now, whenever I am reminded, I begin to clench my jaw and rub my head. Also, I m not very likely to speak when I am angry, but when I do I am sarcastic and without a sense of humor, i.e., I ll say I was such a smart kid, of course, skateboards can take you everywhere. If anyone else attempts to make a joke about my situation, I d blankly stared at them, conveying my anger by rejecting humor about the situation. As for case five, my friend is a big fan of the former vice present, Joe Biden. So, when she told me about how she felt after receiving her grade, she reported that she was sweating, shaking, and cupping her first with her other hand. Even as she ...
